- 1:45Speaker 1: The popcorn moment, Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
- 1:48Speaker 2: It's a story you need to hear to believe.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Then grab your popcorn because there is more. I start
- 1:57Speaker 1: with a story that you'll see on the show sheet
- 1:59Speaker 1: at Tony kats dot com. That Halloween weekend when it
- 2:07Speaker 1: comes to box office, the worst weekend of the year,
- 2:15Speaker 1: the worst Halloween weekend in thirty two years.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And the worst October in three decades.
- 2:22Speaker 1: This according to John Noulty over at Bright Part Nolty's
- 2:25Speaker 1: been covering this stuff for decades.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And every single movie is just nonsense.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Total weekend revenue came in at forty nine point.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Eight million dollars.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We're used to hearing about movies making that in one weekend,
- 2:48Speaker 1: just one movie, all of them brought in nothing. Now,
- 2:57Speaker 1: certainly we can argue that it's possible that there were
- 3:02Speaker 1: movies that didn't connect and no one cared about, you know,
- 3:05Speaker 1: the Springsteen movie they made. The vast majority of people
- 3:11Speaker 1: weren't interested in some movie a biopic about Springsteen. Right,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you want to talk about K pop demon Hunters. It's
- 3:23Speaker 1: a very small segment of the population that's really going
- 3:30Speaker 1: to be down for that. They're just not making good movies.
- 3:33Speaker 1: They're not telling good stories. They're trying to resurrect old properties.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's kind of valueless.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Then, of course, it's what they have done to movies,
- 3:43Speaker 1: woke this and woke that and messaged this and beat
- 3:46Speaker 1: you over the head that why can't you just be interesting,
- 3:50Speaker 1: create good characters, tell a good story.
- 3:54Speaker 2: That's all you have to do.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It seems that some people in how what are getting
- 4:00Speaker 1: this message. It isn't about politics, it's about just making
- 4:05Speaker 1: good stuff. Jennifer Lawrence is doing an interview with The
- 4:09Speaker 1: New York Times and Jennifer Lawrence says.
- 4:13Speaker 3: The following celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on
- 4:19Speaker 3: who people vote for, and so then what am I doing.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I don't want to start turning people off to films
- 4:28Speaker 3: and to art that could change consciousness or change the
- 4:31Speaker 3: world because they don't like my political opinions.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So change consciousness or change the world could be seen
- 4:41Speaker 1: as I would like for my movies to make money
- 4:44Speaker 1: so I.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Can keep making movies.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Uh, and one could could I would? I would ask
- 4:48Speaker 1: you the question. I didn't catch all interview. I just
- 4:50Speaker 1: got this, this this clip right here. I will wonder
- 4:52Speaker 1: if if being a parent has changed you at all,
- 4:55Speaker 1: just in terms of a generalized philosophy, because it is
- 4:58Speaker 1: true that being a parent does change I don't think
- 5:01Speaker 1: there's any question about that, and so I'd be curious
- 5:03Speaker 1: if she felt that in her case, the idea that
- 5:12Speaker 1: celebrities don't influence elections, that's not true.
- 5:18Speaker 2: That isn't true.
- 5:19Speaker 1: The question is what is the change, and then what
- 5:26Speaker 1: is the reaction.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think it's easy to.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Say that if Taylor Swift says, hey do X, with
- 5:33Speaker 1: all the fan base that she has, it could have
- 5:35Speaker 1: an effect hold on I know what you're gonna say
- 5:38Speaker 1: about Trump.
- 5:39Speaker 2: That is not the argument.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I am saying that there is no doubt if she
- 5:44Speaker 1: came out and said X, it could have an effect
- 5:47Speaker 1: because the.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Same people are saying, well, she wasn't.
- 5:49Speaker 1: A fan of Trump, and Trump said that she hates
- 5:51Speaker 1: Taylor Swift, and.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Look what happens. Ah, she fell apart and lost followers.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And if she had said support Donald Trump, we'd be
- 5:59Speaker 1: cheering it. So let's not think and you'd be like, oh,
- 6:03Speaker 1: that's good. Now, these young people know that Trump's okay.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So let's not do that to ourselves.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Let's at least honestly address the fact that, yes, celebrity
- 6:13Speaker 1: can influence things. As a matter of fact, I think
- 6:17Speaker 1: history has shown us with examples that celebrity does influence things.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Take a look at us culturally, not influenced by celebrity.
- 6:27Speaker 1: We played Billie Eilish last week saying, hey, billionaires, why
- 6:30Speaker 1: are you billionaires? Give away your money? You're a millionaire
- 6:33Speaker 1: a Billie Eilish, why do you give away your money?
- 6:35Speaker 2: Hey? Why are you looking at me? That's probably what
- 6:37Speaker 2: she would say. So these things do.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Have an effect because bad ideas do carry this way
- 6:42Speaker 1: and they do carry through celebrity.
- 6:45Speaker 2: What I find interesting here is that.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Her argument is incorrect, but her the end result.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Of her argument, I think is accurate.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Let me just go about making film, let more people
- 7:06Speaker 1: see it. It will make more money, and it's better.
- 7:09Speaker 1: The idea that's going to affect the world can't answer that.
- 7:12Speaker 1: The idea that's going to affect your pocketbook and get
- 7:15Speaker 1: other people paid or make in the movie absolutely true,
- 7:18Speaker 1: So why would you get in the way of it.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So her discussion of her analysis, I think is misguided.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I think the end result of her analysis, I'm not
- 7:32Speaker 1: talking politics anymore, is probably a very smart play.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It's weird when you get that right.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Her explanation is absolutely incorrect, that I would say, in
- 7:47Speaker 1: some cases just a flat out lie.
- 7:50Speaker 2: But the end result, yeah, that's probably the right thing
- 7:53Speaker 2: to do. Bravissimo, Go make good films. That's what I say.
