Transcript
- 0:26Welcome into the Treehouse once again. I'm Dan O'Malley, joined of course by
- 0:32Alfie Cole. Say hello, Alfhie Hello, And I'm wondering in what type
- 0:39of mood our dear dear friend and also a member at the Treehouse, Trey
- 0:42Trendhold, is in. How are you feeling today, Tree? I'm all
- 0:46right, even even though with the chore that you had to do earlier today.
- 0:53Yeah, you got a change the sheets, just like the one day
- 0:58of the year that they we're supposed to change your seats. No, I
- 1:03do that twice here. I'm actually pretty good. I do that about every
- 1:07three to four weeks. Yeah, that's that's too many. Come on,
- 1:12what's happening in your bed that you changed them that often. I have a
- 1:19cleaning lady that comes by about once every three to four weeks, and yusually
- 1:23judgment or you're just letting her do it. Um its just having her come
- 1:30in makes me feel like I need to, you know, not look gross.
- 1:36And so I just changed my seats right now. I get it.
- 1:40You you stripped the bed, throw them in the wash room and then let
- 1:42her do the rest of it. Yeah, pretty much, I get it.
- 1:46So it wasn't your cleaning lady that came today? What is it that
- 1:49that you got to do today you had the privilege of doing. Please share
- 1:53with Alphie the excitement that that that you incurred today. I see your eyes
- 2:01searching your brain, like I didn't do anything fun today? What did you
- 2:05do before the show? Trey? Uh? What are you talking about?
- 2:13Why are you growing Trey so hard? Dan? I got Well, I
- 2:15think I think I've actually screwed up. I think I realized that I thought
- 2:19today was one day, and I think what I'm asking Trey about actually happens
- 2:23tomorrow. Oh oh, there's something brooding tomorrow. Are you to take my
- 2:30mom to the doctor? Yeah, that's it? No, Yeah, those
- 2:35are fun days. Is she pregnant? Oh god, no, are you
- 2:46gonna do that? What I mean? I don't know exactly how old she
- 2:51is. You know, people are having babies, you know, much later
- 2:53in life. She's seventy eight, so I think we're No. It's it's,
- 2:59you know, one of those things that if you're lucky enough and I
- 3:05use that term loosely to still have your parents and live close to them,
- 3:09you'll end up taking them to a lot of doctor's appointments as they get older.
- 3:14And this is exactly the reason why I feel like, if you're going
- 3:16to have kids, you need to have at least two, because then that
- 3:22way one ends up being stuck with the parents and the other one gets to
- 3:27go live a life of enjoyment. There are very few times in my life
- 3:31where I have wished for a sibling, but and taking care of my mother,
- 3:37man, it would be nice to have someone to go just take this
- 3:39for one day, give me a break. Try you only child? Yes?
- 3:45Have you ever been accused of having only child syndrome? Uh? Yeah?
- 3:51What does that entail? Exactly? Because I've heard of it, and
- 3:53I'll like yell at at friends that are only only children just to yeah,
- 3:57I'm curious. I've heard of only child syndrome home. But I don't know.
- 4:00I'll scream it at somebody just to make them, you know, just
- 4:03to have something over them. But I have no freaking clue what it is.
- 4:09One of my friends does something dumb, only child syndrome, or if
- 4:12they're doing something I don't agree with, only child syndrome, you know,
- 4:16I think that's one of those things. A lot of it is. You
- 4:20know, you're used to just not having to share, not having to do
- 4:24anything, just so you're selfish, self centered. Um, you know,
- 4:30I think it's worse in kids, because you know, I it's like,
- 4:35I look back at my childhood and I was, Yeah, between that and
- 4:41drinking is horribly immature. And a lot of that is being an only child
- 4:46and you don't have any any example of what you're really supposed to do.
- 4:53I guess so, well, isn't that the same problem for like the lead
- 4:57kid. It's just the lead kid then to deal with each subsequent child being
- 5:03treated better than they were, well there, And I think lies the difference
- 5:09because if you're the oldest child, then you know, you have to you
- 5:14have to come to have to come to grips with the fact that you're no
- 5:16longer the favorite and that life is going to be challenging for you. And
- 5:20I think that prepares you, you know, for the future ahead, whereas
- 5:24if you're the only child like Trey, then it could go. It could
- 5:29really it's sort of fifty fifty. You could get someone, you could get
- 5:31parents who really prepare you for the future and are hard on you, or
- 5:36you're just spoiled because you're the only kid they had. And the friends I
- 5:42The kids that really get screwed are the middle kids. If you have more
- 5:46than two, because firstborn's firstborn, they're going to get some and then the
- 5:49last one is the baby, and then the ones in the middle they just
- 5:53kind of get lost in the shovel. But this is why I think it's
- 5:58so important that that that again, and if you're gonna have kids, you
- 6:00need to have more than one that way. And I think this happens quite
- 6:04a lot. Um. It's happened in my family, and I'm not sure
- 6:09exactly alpha you tell me if this has happened in yours. So in my
- 6:13family, it's my sister who takes care of my mom. Luckily, she
- 6:16doesn't need a whole lot of taken care of because she's she's pretty dark and
- 6:19self sufficient. The good news is she's had enough surgeries on major joints now
- 6:24that she's you know, almost wolverine, so she's getting around pretty good.
- 6:29Whereas me, I'm off doing my own thing because my sister has basically shouldered
- 6:35the mama responsibility. Yeah, I don't know, you've got you've got multiple
- 6:41siblings. I do have multiple siblings, And are you the one that's entrusted
- 6:46with taking care of Mama, or is one of the other siblings is stepping
- 6:50up. No, we've all we've all shouldered responsibility from time to time.
- 6:56Really, oh yeah, equally. Yeah, yeah, that's what That's what
- 7:00good children do, like me and try. It's not like you, horrible
- 7:02Dan. Now, I've kind of done the thing that I had another friend
- 7:09of mine do. So he doesn't live near home like me, and his
- 7:14sister helps take care of his parents, but he'll occasionally help them out financially,
- 7:18which I've also done for my mom. So that's kind of it's a
- 7:21different cross to bear, but you know, it's the situation has a tendency
- 7:26to work itself out. But I give you credit, Alfhie having a family
- 7:29that if all the siblings want to equally share the responsibility, I guess good
- 7:33on you. Is that what you tell your therapist? He said, well,
- 7:36well, you know, I just live so far away, and but
- 7:40I help out financially. I send, I send um, I send coupons
- 7:44their way. Well, go ahead, Tray, don't don't let Alphie guilt
- 7:49you into that. You're in a wonderful situation. Enjoy it, embrace it,
- 7:55absolutely love it. Trey dogpile. You can guilt him jealous. I
- 8:00can't see albe alb You're you're obviously your family and your siblings. Y'all are
- 8:05kind of the unicorn because I can tell you this and this is you know,
- 8:09I'm just being older and parents are older. Most people you know that
- 8:16have siblings, there's always one that gets stuck with doing the majority of work.
- 8:20I don't have a choice. It's either me or you know, locker
- 8:26in a closet. Yeah, to tell her to wheel or ass over to
- 8:28the store. I've seen people doing that on the streets all the time.
- 8:33It's like they got the they're in the wheelchair and they they pull up the
- 8:37little foot pedals that that you rest your feet on, and then they just
- 8:41use their little feet to walk down the street. And I'm always wondering,
- 8:43It's like, Okay, where are you going? Do you know where you're
- 8:46going? It's either CVS or maybe you're trying to roll to the doctor or
- 8:50something. No. I've I've asked one of those people one time where they're
- 8:52going and she said, well, my son, Dan O'Malley won't take me
- 8:56to the Kroger to just just to get you know cereal oatmeal, it's called
- 9:03mom. They have technology now to bring the groceries to you. You don't
- 9:05need me. Oh have you have you ever tried to eat? Have you
- 9:09ever tried to talk your parents through using an app? No? And this
- 9:13is the great thing about having my sister be the responsible one for you know,
- 9:18everything in that house for my mom. That's her problem. She's the
- 9:22one that's got to explain grubhub and door dash to mama. Yeah, it's
- 9:26it's that is when I moved my my mom's husband died tragically August of twenty
- 9:35twenty, and I had to move her back to Dallas. And when I
- 9:39did, and I it's like, Okay, I'm gonna set you up on
- 9:43all these different apps. So really, anything you want you can get.
- 9:48It's it's it's it's literally at your fingertips. Yes, yes, I mean
- 9:54and this is a woman who has an iPhone and iPad, a computer,
- 9:56everything, And I mean I'm uber each wait oh wait, is she an
- 10:00old lady or is she a Toddler's get the same goal. It's the line
- 10:05between those two are very very very thin. I mean, it is it's
- 10:11a joke. You hear it. You know, the older you get,
- 10:15you know, at a certain point, you turned back into a child a
- 10:18man. That's it is so true, because but sometimes I just want mom
- 10:22to be quiet at Applebee's. Oh god, um, I mean so I
- 10:30set her up Drubbub, Uber Eats, Kroger, Walmart, Chewy, pet
- 10:37Smart, Charity, had Amazon. And you know how many times she's used
- 10:46anything except Walmart? How many? None? Well? I think I know
- 10:52why it is because she there's the biggest app that's on her phone or iPad.
- 10:56It's the one that simply says Trey that's yes. I finally figured out
- 11:01about a month ago. I forgot what was going on. But it was
- 11:03just because she gave me this callie, I don't have anything to eat them,
- 11:09I'm gonna starve, Mike. I just order something. You can do
- 11:15it, and you know, and she'sa I need you to do it.
- 11:18Nope, I'm not doing it. And amazingly, you know, push came
- 11:22to shove hunger. Being a great motivator, she ended up having to do
- 11:24it. Now Ever, since then, I can't get her to replicate it
- 11:28because then she's like, oh, I just don't remember what I did.
- 11:30Can you order it for me? Sure, man, you are such a
- 11:35pushover. That's yeah's abuse your parents like Dan once you too. Come on,
- 11:43all the cool kids like Dan are abusing their parents. It's not all
- 11:46right. If it was abuse, turnabouts fair play. Second of all,
- 11:50it's not abuse. It's tough love, which I got a lot of growing
- 11:54up. It was hey, you go figured out. Well, guess what
- 11:56now it's your turn to figure it out. Yeah, I wish I could
- 12:01due to my mother, what my you know what she did to me?
- 12:05And yeah, that's one of the things I could. Yeah, all the
- 12:07time is when she's like, you don't call, you don't do anything.
- 12:11You remember, you're the one who told me to entertain myself and I learned
- 12:15how to. That means I don't need you. That's why I don't call.
- 12:18Congratulations, your parenting worked. That's good. That's really good. You
- 12:24take the things that she instilled in you and you're throw them back in her
- 12:26face. This is your fault. I'm this way because of you. Either
- 12:30one of you guys still got doctor Thornton's phone number. I believe I do.
- 12:33You should share it with everyone, not not listeners, but amongst yourselves.
- 12:41Why you think we need therapy? Because of our parents. I mean,
- 12:43we do, but it just feels weird to hear somebody else say it.
- 12:50I think former bosses might require more therapy than parents. That almost seems
- 12:58like it goes without saying, Yeah, have you guys talked to a therapist
- 13:03about this a little bit? And well, it turns out we had a
- 13:07lot of others to get through before I could get to my messed up parental
- 13:11situation. M hmm, it's a murky waters. Do you have any other
- 13:18therapy sessions scheduled for the future? Me right now? No, I need
- 13:22I need to actually find a new therapist. Thornton can't do it here or
- 13:26you're your olds you're old therapist. Thornton's actually have a bad, bad choice
- 13:31for us. Not for other people, he's a great therapist, but for
- 13:33us he's a horrible, horrible choice because he can't be objective. But yeah,
- 13:39you can't call your old therapists and do like, you know, zoom
- 13:43sessions or whatever. Now I wish, I mean, I apparently she's limited.
- 13:48Her license is limited to the state of Texas, So if I'm not
- 13:50in Texas, then then she can't therapy me. Or that was just the
- 13:54excuse, she used, so she didn't have to talk to me anymore.
- 13:58That's true. Friends, is a therapist, and she she had to get
- 14:01licensed because she was licensed in another state, and they wouldn't even let her
- 14:07consider doing therapy until she went through the whole process again in Texas. Yeah,
- 14:13the good news is I found a really good lady on Twitter. What's
- 14:18her name? I'm not sharing that with you. It's it's it's it's my
- 14:22Twitter therapist. You get your own, Okay, I'm good. I don't
- 14:26I um. I looked outside social media for therapy. Oh you know,
- 14:35yours is in a Reddit forum. No, don't be ridiculous, it's a
- 14:39TikTok video. You're in Luke Free House with Dan O'Malley and Alfie Cord.
- 15:00We are joined here by our friend and of course sponsor, Rodney Anderson,
- 15:03whose phone number is nine to seven two nine eighty five fifty two hundred.
- 15:07You're going to need that right now, Rodney. Good afternoon. So my
- 15:11question for you today involves all the different loan programs you offer. I know
- 15:15that you do a lot of military, you know, VA loans, but
- 15:18I'm also wondering, and that's great. I'm also wondering what are some of
- 15:20the other loan programs that you offer. Yeah, so let's talk about VA
- 15:26loans real quick. There's no money down all the way up to one and
- 15:28a half million dollars, and a lot of military veterans are out there looking
- 15:33at homes right now. We offer FHA loans. These are for people that
- 15:37may have had some bumps and bruises on their credit that are looking for a
- 15:39fresh start, and it's a three and a half percent down loan, and
- 15:43like in the DFW Metroplex, it's three and a half percent down, but
- 15:48you can finance up to five hundred and thirty one thousand dollars. Stand We
- 15:52all mentional loans with as little as three to five percent down up to seven
- 15:56hundred and twenty six thousand, two hundred dollars. For jumbo loans, those
- 16:00are for people buying big homes that are financing large amounts. We offer those
- 16:04as well. And then we have a unique product to us called purchase plus
- 16:08improvement loans, where somebody's out buying a house and they want to put in
- 16:14something into the property. They may want to put in an addition, they
- 16:17want to put in a new kitchen, new bathroom. We offer those types
- 16:21of loans too, where they can do it as part of their purchase price.
- 16:23And I love you that you offer all those things because not only are
- 16:29they great, but also because it's important to let people know that they have
- 16:32options when it comes to buying a home, because a lot of us just
- 16:33are in the dark thinking, well, if I don't have twenty percent down,
- 16:37i'm sol And that's not the case. As you've just heard Rodney tell
- 16:40you, there are a lot of options at your disposal. But in order
- 16:44to take advantage of them, we need to call Rodney and his team right
- 16:47now. So do that. Nine seven two nine eight five fifty two hundred.
- 16:49That's the number again that you're gonna need to use right now nine seven
- 16:52two nine eight five fifty two hundred to take advantage of all these great programs
- 16:57that Rodney and his team offers and also get great inv on the website Rodney
- 17:00Anderson dot com and if M Lending is an equal housing lender three thosand Village
- 17:03Parkway Suite four hundred Hihland Village, Texas and mlis two three two nine.
- 17:08This segment of the Treehouse is brought to you by our friends at Cook DFW
- 17:12Roofing and Restoration. It's storm season and you want someone you can trust to
- 17:17keep the lid on your most valued possession, that is Cook DFW. Schedule
- 17:21your free roof inspection right now, just like we did here in the treehouse
- 17:25at cook dfw dot com. That's cook dfw dot com. You're in the
- 17:33treehouse. Sweet Dan, O'Malley and Alfie cooy Alfie. I'm glad you finally
- 17:47made it into the treehouse and now you had kind of a rough road getting
- 17:51getting in here. Yeah, traffick was kind of asked getting home. Why
- 17:57why why why was traffic so bad other than the fact that that you were
- 18:00on you know, six thirty five because the rain because it rained there was
- 18:03there was like rain drops. Yeah, three drops on the road, and
- 18:10some things never change. It's too much for some people. It's too many
- 18:12drops. You gotta you gotta, you know, can't. You gotta hit
- 18:17the brakes because you don't want your car getting rained on. So you stop
- 18:19under an overpass and let the rain just kind of you know, rain on
- 18:22other people and if they if they hit you, they rearend you. Well,
- 18:29I mean that's the rain. Well, you blame it on the rain
- 18:30and be like, oh, it's the rain. Well. And and that
- 18:33new law it says you can only go twenty miles an hour when there's moisture
- 18:38coming from the sky. Really, that's a new law. Now I've missed
- 18:41that. Being so far away, you didn't know that, Yeah, I
- 18:45didn't. I missed that part of the legislature. I thought they were worried
- 18:48about CRT. Dude, there was a bunch of hail that came through like
- 18:53a week or two ago, and I think it was there were a couple
- 18:57of local police departments that had to wheat, don't stop under overpasses. All
- 19:03you're going to do is cause a wreck. Like, I understand, you're
- 19:06getting hailed on and it sucks, but stopping under an overpass is even stupider.
- 19:11They don't care. People do not care. They see it as it's
- 19:15either dangerous or I don't want my car looking looking like the back of somebody's
- 19:21legs. So what they do. They don't give a damn about anyone behind
- 19:25them or what's coming on with oncoming traffic. They're just selfish and they're concerned
- 19:29about themselves. Man. I get it. Driving in severe weather sucks.
- 19:33There have been times where I've been driving in such severe weather where the wind
- 19:36is just kicking so hard that I'm like, you know what, I've I've
- 19:38got to get out of this, and I'll pull over and I'll find like
- 19:41a gas station or something like that. But I'm not stopping on the highway.
- 19:45I'm not stopping in them, just the middle of the frigging road.
- 19:49Yeah, I think unfortunately, despite some valiant efforts on the part of you
- 19:53know, state and federal government, even local on occasion, you cannot legislate
- 19:59against stupidity or trying to force people to be considerate. That's just where you
- 20:04know, natural human just bless is going to win every single time. Yeah.
- 20:11I never understood wanting to, you know, be on the side of
- 20:15the road during a thunderstorm where everyone's already freaked out and driving like crap,
- 20:18and you're like, oh, well, yeah, let me just stop here
- 20:22so you have a stationary target instead of something moving. No, you're right,
- 20:25it's it's like the equivalent of stopping in the middle of the thunderdome and
- 20:29stepping outside the car for a stroll in the middle of it. Like,
- 20:32no, that's terrible. Idea. I will say there was a what was
- 20:38it like a month month and a half ago? Did I already tell you
- 20:41guys this about the catastrophic winds alert that we got? No, try,
- 20:47do you remember that? Did you get that? I vaguely remember a night
- 20:52that. Yeah, I don't. I don't think my alert came across as
- 20:56catastrophic. I think it was like extreme or something. But yes, I
- 21:00got like friends, like from Fox four, they just sent you an alert
- 21:03emoji with the cloud going cloud giving you a big middle finger, thanks Andrews.
- 21:11It was it was like a standard like you know, emergency alert thing
- 21:15that comes through on your phone and it said, you know, warning catastrophic
- 21:18winds. Seek shelter immediately, man, I went to the galleria. I
- 21:22was just like out for protection or to just shop. I was already out.
- 21:29I was already like out on the town or whatever, and like,
- 21:36I'm, you know, not gonna make it back home. And the closest
- 21:37thing I could think of with shelter is h the galleria. They got nice
- 21:45concrete garages, they got good sturdy buildings and stuff like that. I mean,
- 21:51yeah, sure that there's that one section that's you know, a glass
- 21:52roof. But that's what I was curious about. Yeah, that that held
- 21:56up, that held up, rather than that other then, other than that
- 22:00being the location of Twister two, what was that actually a thing? Oh?
- 22:07I don't know. Okay, I saw something yet that it might be
- 22:11in the works, but I don't know if it was still happening since Bill
- 22:12Pullman died, or there's somehow going to kill him in the beginning. No,
- 22:17they they're making a Twister two, which I just like the way did
- 22:22I say Pullman is a Paxton? I always get those two guys names mixed
- 22:26up. Yeah, Paton, Yeah yeah. Pullmans still alive. Yes,
- 22:30But at the at the Galleria when I was leaving, Okay, during the
- 22:37storm, they shut like all the storm shutters, like the safety shutters and
- 22:41things like that, you know, keep thieves out or whatever when the mall's
- 22:45closed, and they didn't open him a back up until like the the severe
- 22:52thunderstorm warning or whatever had passed. And one of the exits on the galleria
- 22:57that I left nearby, there were some dudes like doing construction there. I
- 23:02was like, this is an odd ass time to be doing construction. And
- 23:04I go and I look, the wind had ripped one of the doors off
- 23:08the hinges, just straight up rip the door off. It had kicked the
- 23:11door open and then slammed it so hard that it popped off the hinges.
- 23:17And these guys were putting up plywood. So, Alfie, are your malwalking
- 23:23white New Balance shoes or did those work well on wet floors? Oh?
- 23:26I should get some of those. I have some of those. Those are
- 23:30pretty stylish, too, old man New Balance. Oh God, don't I
- 23:37think you really should get some of those malwaking old band shoes. Toast freaking
- 23:41New Balance shoes are in style, dude, Like dad shoes are one pent
- 23:45in style and they've been in style for a while. Yeah, but you're
- 23:49but I think I think you've mentioned this before, but only in the sense
- 23:52that if you're young enough to wear them, Ironically, I think the downside
- 23:56is you're old enough now where if you're wearing them, well, just think
- 24:00you're lame. I'm a dad. Yeah, I gotta work the tube socks
- 24:03too. H it's the white New Balance, the tube socks and the and
- 24:08the sweater vest. The one to blame for all that is Steve Jobs.
- 24:11That was straight up his freaking outfit. Oh it was because he had the
- 24:18black turtleneck jeans and the white New Balances. Yep, that's it. Yeah,
- 24:22But you know, when you're a billionaire, you can kind of pull
- 24:23it off. Well, I mean anyone can pull it off. In fact,
- 24:26honestly, most of the dudes that I know that have like insane money,
- 24:30they look schlubby like that. And I assume part of it's like a
- 24:34defense mechanism. I assume it's like rich guy camouflage. The one billionaire that
- 24:40we know, Dan, he just dressed normal. You know, I'm not
- 24:45talking about Cuban. Well, I guess he does the same thing too.
- 24:47But the other billionaire that we know, m he just dressed as absolutely plain
- 24:52as possible. Because if you're running around flashing you know, Gucci this and
- 24:56Versachi that, people are gonna start targeting you for cash. They're gonna be
- 25:02hitting up. Hey can I borrow twenty bucks? Can I buy your thirty
- 25:03thousand dollars? Hey I've got a small investment that I need you to look
- 25:07into. That kind of thing. They don't want that. Oh I know
- 25:11is I saw that news report about New Balance being back in style, and
- 25:17well, I don't wear New Balance. They were like, yeah, you
- 25:18know the shows or the shoes that have like, you know, the thick
- 25:22you know, heels at the end, you know, with extra cushion.
- 25:25And I looked down at my feet and I was like, well, damn,
- 25:29yeah, because I think the new Dad shoes are supposedly is it the
- 25:33hookahs? Is that what those are called? The really thick soled running shoes?
- 25:36Yes, ah, you got some of those train No, I'm a
- 25:40big fan of h It's called on running. Oh yeah, those are also
- 25:44super freaking popular. Yeah, they're super pretty and comfortable. Yeah on dash
- 25:51running dot com. One of my friends went and bought some of those the
- 25:53other day. I don't know that I like the soul because they look all
- 25:57kind of weirdly segmented around the bottom. Are they super comfortable? Like really
- 26:00really worth it? Though? They're the most comfortable shoes and my normal you
- 26:07know, you run a bar restaurant, you're on your feet hours on end,
- 26:11and they're by far and away. I mean, I think at this
- 26:12point, I'm I found him about two years ago, and I I think
- 26:18I've bought seven pairs. Dan, I'm hard on shoes, so I mean
- 26:22three of them already toast but yeah, they're they're fantastic. So we've reached
- 26:30the point in our lives where we're sharing orthotics. There's nothing wrong with that,
- 26:34nothing wrong with being comfortable, Yeah, planning about the weather and saying
- 26:38my feet hurt. Dude, I will say I think I was like in
- 26:41my early twenties or whatever. My older sister took me to Dick Sporting Goods
- 26:49to buy me like some good ass shoes. Because my older sister, she's
- 26:52a physical therapist, and she'd look at me walk because you're overpronating. We
- 26:56need to get that fixed. So she took me to Dick Sporting Goods to
- 26:59buy some essentially orthotic shoes. And overpronating, isn't that mean like you're like
- 27:06duck walking? It means that your arch has fallen, right, Okay.
- 27:14And she took me to go get some frigging, like I said, medicinal
- 27:18shoes or some crap some la spirits. No, no, no, we
- 27:22got some new balance and they were expensive as hell, like yeah, because
- 27:27most people that buy them need insurance to help cover their cost. Man,
- 27:32Like I'm used to like sixty seventy dollars, eighty dollars, like pair of
- 27:34Vans or something like that, which is probably why I have fallen arches.
- 27:38But these new Balance shoes that we got, they were the Steve Jobs looking
- 27:45gray and white arch support shoes. They were I think like one fifty one
- 27:51sixty or something like that. Yeah, that's mainly because Medicare covers so much
- 27:56of the cost. They were most effing comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I
- 28:03were you mad about it a little bit? I would have been asked.
- 28:04I was so, My god, I look lame, but I'm also just
- 28:07really comfortable when I wore through them. I went back to Dick's Sporting Goods
- 28:12and they didn't sell them there anymore, at least not that particular model like
- 28:17I I had here. I was thinking that that that the only the only
- 28:19line in the sand Dix ever drew was about a R fifteens. No,
- 28:23no, no, they we do not sell guns, at least not they're
- 28:26really you're like cool looking ones. And no more of those gray lame shoes.
- 28:32The shoes they had, man, they were they just weren't the same.
- 28:37I try them on and I'm like, this didn't have the support I
- 28:38need. I need, I need to feel loved from my shoes are you
- 28:45still on the lookout for for a new old man shoes? No, I
- 28:48uh no, No, it's even worse. It's even worse. I don't
- 28:56even want to say. You don't want to say, oh, did you
- 28:57find a cash on Craigslist along the colonoscopy thing? Oh, it's even worse.
- 29:02Um, my physical therapist, like when I jacked up my name,
- 29:07my physical therapist wrecked it. Excuse me, you and your stupid coon hoscopy
- 29:11talk. My physical therapist recommended that I get insuls. So now I buy
- 29:18like the hardcore, frigging, stiff as hell running insoles from Amazon or like
- 29:26you know, run On or whatever running stores there are, and those help
- 29:30out quite a bit. The nice thing about that is I can put them
- 29:32in any shoes. I'm just when you buy them either story, do you
- 29:42wear disguise so no one knows who you are? Or do you just buy
- 29:45them on lines? No? No, no, no, I'm wearing wearing
- 29:49a scheme mask. This is not a robbery. I just need to buy
- 29:55some insuls. I have cash, don't worry. I don't want any credit.
- 29:59CA are just so seated with this. You don't want a digital trail?
- 30:04Yeah, exactly. I buy mine online so I can go. I
- 30:10didn't know. They just sent me the but they're really comfortable. Well,
- 30:14I've already got them. I better just keep them in were them and order
- 30:17some more pairs. The person stealing my identity seems to really know what I
- 30:21need. I'm just gonna go with it. How did we get off on
- 30:26this? Uh? Storms? Oh, mall walking? Yeah, yeah,
- 30:32mall walking? Yeah, because they were bad storms and you went for shelter
- 30:36at the galleria, the one place to one mall in North Texas. I
- 30:38would probably avoid because the whole roof is made a glass. It was great.
- 30:41Well, you like everyone in there. We were just perfectly fine in
- 30:45there. Lots of thunderstorms, lots of wind, except for that one door.
- 30:49That one door by Banana Republic got ripped off. But I mean,
- 30:52heck, I was walking by the Antians on the top floor, right underneath
- 30:56the grat the glass ceiling. It's fine, perfectly safe. Does that help
- 31:00with the Mallwalking Association's pace? Does everyone go a little bit faster in the
- 31:03face of danger? You bet your asside. You're leaving all the old people
- 31:08behind. The sucky thing about that night, dude, is like some stores
- 31:12started shutting down early, And I'm like, why where are you gonna go?
- 31:17There's storms outside? Why would you shut down early when you close like
- 31:22they were shutting down like a six thirty seven or something like that, when
- 31:25they actually close at eight or nine, what's the point of that. There's
- 31:30hyperwind outside? Stay puts, you're safe. Well, but they know all
- 31:36the maltwalkers, you know, I'm sure they take a brisk pace at about
- 31:38three o'clock because they have to have dinner at four thirty and then and then
- 31:41they're also worried about and they're also worried about the storms because then you know,
- 31:45the mall's full of mallwalkers. They may take advantage and start looting the
- 31:49place. I'm trying to decide if I would be ethical and that sort of
- 31:59situation. And well, if you have the opportunity to stock up on more
- 32:05mall walking shoes or pretzels, Your Honor, I don't know how these build
- 32:09a Bear gift cards ended up. By the way, if you look under
- 32:14your gown, there's about four or five Centabuoni gift cards in there, Your
- 32:19Honor, I came with all these Aldo shoes. Hey wait, I have
- 32:23some alldoes. Do you want some too? If there's a storm and I
- 32:25gotta an opportunity to do a little light looting. Yeah, I think light
- 32:31looting keeps it as a misdemeanor. Well, I mean, I was just
- 32:35I was keeping it safe for the authorities when when they came back to get
- 32:42there. Oh I see, so you you looted to keep looters from looting,
- 32:47exactly, exactly, So it's crime to prevent other crimes, yes,
- 32:53which I think was the defense of that one cop that got caught doing that
- 32:57at a home depot. Yeah, you're you're you're right up there with Batman.
- 33:02He was. He was just protecting the skill saws in his car.
- 33:10Yeah, yeah, yeah, y'all know what I'm talking about. Right.
- 33:14Yeah. There was also wasn't there supposedly an officer, and he may have
- 33:16been cleared after the fact, but there was during a storm he was protecting
- 33:21all the alcohol at a liquor store in his car. There's a joke there,
- 33:27and I'm gonna leave it alone. Yeah. Please don't. I gotta
- 33:30bleep that, please do. I got to bleep the last one you made
- 33:36that person that you're in Luke with Dan O'Malley and Alfie Corner. For the
- 34:00very first time, I would like to welcome into the treehouse a brand new
- 34:02friend and sponsor of the show, Jacqueline from Brooks Plumbing Texas dot Com.
- 34:08Good afternoon, Jacqueline, good afternoon, and how are you guys today?
- 34:12Doing very well? Thank you so. One of the many things that are
- 34:15great about Brooks Plumbing is your value and how that compares to the big guys.
- 34:22Can you give me an example of how you are actually able to help
- 34:24one of your customers in the face of you know, it's like, oh
- 34:28my god, this is so much money, but oh you came to the
- 34:30rescue. So there's a couple different ways that we come in helpful for people.
- 34:32One of the big things is that when it comes to the most expensive
- 34:37jobs that you can incur in plumbing, especially in North Texas, you're talking
- 34:39about leaks underneath the foundation. And for us, we're so competitively priced because
- 34:45we don't actually subcontract out the excavation to other companies, and so it keeps
- 34:49our overhead significantly lower than our largest competitors, and people end up paying literally
- 34:53thousands, tens of thousands of dollars more to work with my competitors. But
- 34:58one of the main things I like to tell people is, don't get to
- 35:00that point where you need them call me first. So the other day I
- 35:04was standing in my kitchen. It was after hours, and my cell phone
- 35:07rang, and then I answered the phone and it was a really nice young
- 35:09man and he said, hey, I bought my house two days ago and
- 35:14my wife just got out of the shower and the whole house has flooded.
- 35:16And I said, okay, fantastic, what's the address. I pulled up
- 35:20the house. Take a look at it. It's gorgeous and you can tell
- 35:22that it was a flip property. And I just asked him, I said,
- 35:25did you buy this from a flipper? And he said yes, And
- 35:28I said, prior to buying this house, did you happen to have the
- 35:30sewer examined by a plumber? And he said no, we get out there.
- 35:34Come to find out that this flipper made all these adjustments to the plumbing,
- 35:37renovated all the bathrooms in the kitchens, never pulled a single permit,
- 35:40never got a passing inspection, and the sewer system has multiple leaks. It's
- 35:45rotten, and it was plumbed incorrectly. So we were able to come in
- 35:50and help him with his dispute. But the upside is is that if you're
- 35:53ever going to look to buy a house, I say, always call me
- 35:55first. For a flat rate fee one fifty. I can come look at
- 36:00the sewer and give you peace of mind that nothing's wrong with it, because
- 36:02now this nice young man, his wife and their newborn child are in this
- 36:06massive lawsuit with the flipper that sold them the house. Call me first,
- 36:08don't even go through that headache. That's what I always say. She's got
- 36:12a great idea, So do what the boss lady says. That is called
- 36:15Brooks Plumbing. The phone number two one four three six eight thirty eight thirty
- 36:19eight. That's two one four three six eight thirty eight thirty eight. The
- 36:22website that's awesome as well. It's even got little rubber duckies on them.
- 36:27Brooks Plumbing Texas dot com. That's Brooks Plumbing Texas dot com. Thank you
- 36:30so much, Jacquelie, Yes, sir, thank you. Here in the

- 38:07Visit Brooks Plumbing Texas dot com right now and warn them that's Brooks Plumbing Texas
- 38:12dot Com. You're in the treehouse. Swit, Dan O'Malley and Alfie Coy.
- 38:28Yeah. I'll be honest with you, Trey, I'm not sure if
- 38:30I remembered you being a big Star Trek guy. Yeah. I think it
- 38:35was just part of I mean, that was just in my wheelhouse growing up.
- 38:37I mean I literally I saw every episode of Next Generation. My mom
- 38:44was a massive fan of Star Trek The Next Generation. Wait, I should
- 38:47probably amend that my mom was a huge, huge fan and extremely sexually attracted
- 38:54to Patrick Stewart so by association, she watched that show religiously, and because
- 39:01she watched it religiously, I watched a lot of them. I would never
- 39:04consider myself like a huge Trek fan, but I'm definitely not on the hate
- 39:08side. But so I watched the What's Up. She was a fan of
- 39:13Patrick Stewart, Oh yeah, not Jonathan Frank's commander Will Riker. She liked
- 39:19that. She likes bald British men apparently, which you know, came in
- 39:22no surprise to my father, distinguished. No, it's if you were a
- 39:29fan of the show, then the third season of Picard is just it's wonderful.
- 39:35It's it's a great show. But if if you're a fan, it's
- 39:40kind of like any TV show you ever watched, and you know, went
- 39:45on for years and then it came to an end. This was like,
- 39:47you know, because then they did that, then they did a couple of
- 39:50movies, and this was like bringing they basically bring everyone back together, and
- 39:54it just puts a nice little bow tie and it's like, all right,
- 39:58you know, that's clearly that's it. They're done. Yeah, so this
- 40:00movie just kind of sucked too. So well, I always had a hard
- 40:04time buying into Patrick Stewart as an action star, Like, for whatever reason,
- 40:07William Shatner on the original series, Yeah, I could see him punching
- 40:09a green dude. But whenever they did with Patrick Stewart, it just wasn't
- 40:14as convincing to me. I don't know why, but that was he wasn't
- 40:16really more of the It wasn't you know Jonathan Frakes number one, the number
- 40:22two, that was he was the muscle. Yeah, yeah, he did
- 40:29more of the action stuff. And remarkably, they all looked fairly good.
- 40:34I mean, but it's for card the first couple of seasons, like,
- 40:39yeah, you have to have watched the first one for the third one to
- 40:42make sense. Second one kind of stands alone. I would give the first
- 40:45and second seasons a bee like it takes a while, Like especially the first
- 40:52couple of episodes of the season one, he just kind of have to get
- 40:54through it before it starts rolling. But uh, which is that? I
- 40:59mean, I think that's the way with most shows these days. But watch
- 41:02it if you're a fan, because the third season is it's it's wonderful.
- 41:07It really you could not have asked for a better a better finale for all
- 41:13of it. Then that's what I've That's what I've seen online in a number
- 41:15of places. Is that that this final season or whatever of Pcard is that
- 41:20is supposedly some of the best that they've done. I don't know. Yeah,
- 41:23they gave everyone a a what's the word promotion, like they make a
- 41:31card admiral now cards admiral uh, rub two finally becomes number one. Well
- 41:39and then at the end, but yeah and then uh yeah LaForge has had
- 41:45us some engineering and uh and data gets a heart. That was all.
- 41:52Yeah, that that that was it. Really. Yes, I was making
- 41:55a bad Wizard of Oz joke, but they actually did that. Yeah,
- 42:00they gave him emotion. Yeah, that was a little generations I think.
- 42:05Yeah, William sat where where William Shatner and uh and Picard get stuck in
- 42:10some sort of like alternate universe or like alternate planet or some some weird thing.
- 42:15It's like, yeah, that's what it is, a time loop.
- 42:20See, I've I've watched some of these things and even at that time,
- 42:22I'm like, oh, that's just yeah, part of that is Groundhog Day
- 42:28on on a foreign planet. They really did kind of here. They asked
- 42:34up a lot of stuff like, uh, first contacts, fun first contact,
- 42:37Like like I said, it's hard to buy or like Dan said,
- 42:40it's hard to buy Patrick Stewart as mister Mega muscles climbing around the engineering pipes
- 42:47and stuff. Yeah, it was really difficult for me to buy into Patrick
- 42:51Stewart running and jumping. But there's other parts of it they're awesome, like
- 42:53when Warf pulls out that knife and goes assimilate this and he chops the borg's
- 42:58arm off and all that stuff. Stuff all right, right, that is
- 43:00that is a pretty good catch phrase. But uh, the last movie Nemesis,
- 43:08that was pretty bad. Well. I think these are struggles that we
- 43:13all have if there was a show that you were a fan of and then
- 43:15what's old is new again. They're doing this with almost every successful show.
- 43:20They're rebooting it in some way. Like they're doing it with Frasier, they
- 43:23did it with Will and Grace, They're they've done it with Full House,
- 43:27They've done it with seemingly every show that was successful from our childhoods, and
- 43:30they're they're making them do it all again. Um. The thing I'm struggling
- 43:35with the most right now was kind of on the opposite end, which was
- 43:37a show that started out really good that seems to have jumped the Baby Yoda
- 43:42and yeah, I'm talking about Mandalorian. This last season seems I thought you
- 43:47were gonna say this particular episode of this podcast, well that's coming. You
- 43:53didn't you didn't like the third season of Mandalorian. I'm still I'm still trudging
- 43:59three. I'm sorry, but for like flipping Baby Yoda, like I mean,
- 44:02actual Baby Yoda when he flips, seems kind of silly because I someone
- 44:07pointed out online and I can't unsee it that the flipping of Baby Yoda is
- 44:12really them just throwing the doll around on set, and i'd I'm sorry,
- 44:15It's just looks silly to me. So I haven't seen any of it.
- 44:19I haven't seen any any of the h nothing like my Disney Disney Plus subscription
- 44:27lapsed because I don't care or they didn't have a ton that was really interesting
- 44:30me. And from what I've seen online, I'm not really interested in watching
- 44:37it, which kind of sucks because that was kind of the pinnacle of Star
- 44:40Wars stuff right now. It was it was sort of the really good thing
- 44:44since Rogue one, but now it's kind of what happened. I saw Lizzo
- 44:49was there and Jack Black for some reason. Yeah, I see. I
- 44:52haven't gotten to that episode yet. I'm pretty sure that episode is next,
- 44:54and I'm afraid of it. It looked really stupid from what I saw.
- 44:59It looked right already been to me, it's been pretty stupid leading up to
- 45:02the stupid episode, So I'm now I'm really worried what happened? I mean,
- 45:06did they change directors or something like that or what. No, it's
- 45:09still Favro and Feloni, but I think maybe they lost their I don't know,
- 45:15drive lost their edge. I don't know. So I've so Alfhay,
- 45:19you haven't seen any of The Mandalorian, like any of the three seasons.
- 45:22No, I've seen the first two. But like when when Disney Plus when
- 45:25the renewal came around this past November, I was like, am I good?
- 45:29No, thanks? I liked season three of The Mandalorian. I the
- 45:36biggest question is the way they left it is. You're like, well,
- 45:37is that it? Or I think they've confirmed Morse coming. No, they
- 45:43have a Fabro has already come out because that's basically his pet project, and
- 45:45he's already said no seasons four has already been written and there's still money to
- 45:51be made. Well yeah, well, and then I guess one of the
- 45:54things I find kind of fascinating is, uh, I mean, Pedro Pascal
- 46:00obviously had a wonderful first part of this year between the Last of Us and
- 46:04The Mandalorian, and yeah, evidently there's problems with him coming back to do
- 46:08season four of The Mandalorian. And I'm like, it's like James L.
- 46:13Jones doing Darth the Voice. You don't see his face. It's like,
- 46:15just have him voice the crap and you have someone else just walk around in
- 46:19the costumes. What's this problem with coming back for just scheduling or just doesn't
- 46:23want to do it anymore? Does he see season three? Is being like
- 46:28this is not what I signed up for. Maybe I think he's just angling
- 46:31for I mean, obviously his star is pretty high right now, so I'm
- 46:37sure he's just because I know he signed a two season deal after the success
- 46:43of season one, and I'm sure now he's like, you know, like
- 46:45an NFL quarterback going, you're not paying me enough. He wants that Aaron
- 46:51Rodgers money, I will say, and listen to my listen to my segue
- 46:55here. This is a transition right out of a hall of fame. One
- 47:00of the things I do like that they're doing in Star Wars almost anything,
- 47:02is they're still staying true to the original films and turning trash cans into robots.
- 47:07Oh, like the Gonk droid and he stomps around exactly, And that's
- 47:15the way a lot of the droids are, like the ones that roll around,
- 47:17or like the one you're talking about, Alfie, that was that's a
- 47:22literal trash can that they just kind of turned in to make it look like
- 47:24a robot exactly. So you remember, it was like a week or two
- 47:29ago we talked about the robot dogs being deployed by the NYPD. Yeah huh.
- 47:35Well, and apparently New York is expanding their robotics program from enforcement from
- 47:42law enforcement now to trash collecting. Oh for real, Oh dude, Other
- 47:47cities have these, like, um so they're part of the Santinentation Department,
- 47:52I think so. Researchers at Cornell University recently deployed a pair of robotic trash
- 48:00cans in New York to test how people would respond to them. Video of
- 48:05the trash cans, which were equipped with three hundred and sixty degree cameras and
- 48:07move on retrofitted hoverboards. Oh, they move that, they move. I
- 48:15was I was under the impression that it was just a trash can and when
- 48:17you put something in it, it goes, thank you very much and then
- 48:21like makes a chewing sound or something like that, which they have. They
- 48:23absolutely have that. In your honors. There's some European towns that have trash
- 48:30cans that have like basically trash compactors built in and you put the stuff in
- 48:35and it'll make like a funny noise. It'll make like a belotious thank you,
- 48:38like to this is a little reward for throwing away your trash. You
- 48:42get to see a stupid little, stupid, little chucky cheese style show.
- 48:45You know. So basically everyone's stealing from Sesame Street. Yeah exactly. It's
- 48:52yeah, yeah, and Star Wars all wrapped into one. But yeah,
- 48:59So these these trash bots or you know, robot trash bins, whatever you
- 49:02want to call them. They roll around on hoverboards and then they have the
- 49:07cameras on them. They wanted to see how people react to the to the
- 49:09trash cans, and they'll kind of follow people around so while on one hand
- 49:14people responded to them pretty well, there were some of the UH people that
- 49:19had interactions with these robotic trash cans that were apparently a little creeped out.
- 49:23Um, but we made sure. And it's like, Okay, it's important
- 49:28if I'm gonna bring something up on the show that you know, we thoroughly
- 49:30vet it. It needs to be researched entirely. And it's like someone says,
- 49:34a robots creeping me out, I need to find examples of it.
- 49:36So I found some. Hello, I am robot trash bin. Talk dirty
- 49:42to me. That's a hilarious cash phrase. Hey, not all, not
- 49:47all robots are Oh god, are you no? I'm just thinking it's like,
- 49:55not all, not all, not all trash kNs can be Dave Chappelle.
- 50:00Sometimes they just they just feel like making a pun. There's plenty of
- 50:06stinker puns that I could make right now that I'm going to refrain from doing,
- 50:08dan because I'm better than that. That's okay, I'm not Hello,
- 50:15I am robo trash bin. How about some ask for some trash. Trust
- 50:22me, they get much harsher. See. This is this is the This
- 50:27is like the European robot, the one that gives you a little reward.
- 50:31I therefore, maybe the ones in New York City took inspiration from the euro
- 50:36trash Maybe. So, I guess the trash cansdent what Trey U. The
- 50:43trash cans identify as day them, so they're just hitting on anyone everyone,
- 50:46and I think so Yeah, okay, Hello, I am robo trash bin.

- 51:39robot trash Bin. Have I told you how my parents met? It all
- 51:45started with my mom being a c dumpster. Jesus, you can see now
- 51:52why some people might be creeped out by a robot with that much of detail.
- 51:59I don't know how to feel right now. What do you mean embarrassed
