- 0:14What is going on, everybody?
- 0:16Welcome to the original Sunday, Sunday,
- 0:20Sunday Night CrossFit.
- 0:25I don't know how I got up
- 0:25for that because every team
- 0:27I root for stinks.
- 0:30Flat out stinks.
- 0:34It's been a rough weekend.
- 0:37Yeah, we had our ups and downs.
- 0:39Lions did great.
- 0:40Spartans, meh.
- 0:44I didn't watch a – normally
- 0:45I'm a huge football fan on the weekends,
- 0:47but I don't think I watched
- 0:48a single game today.
- 0:52Yeah, I watch too much.
- 0:54The Rams game is awesome right now.
- 0:55It's an overtime.
- 0:56Yeah, I was just watching that.
- 0:59I thought Stafford was going
- 1:00to pull it out at the end.
- 1:02I couldn't quite get him
- 1:03into field goal range.
- 1:04Mm-hmm.
- 1:06But my Penn State Nittany
- 1:08Lions in the big matchup of
- 1:10the weekend laid an egg,
- 1:13but only fell to sixth in a
- 1:14twelve team playoff this year.
- 1:16Hopefully they can just
- 1:17close out the year.
- 1:18Ohio State has been their nemesis forever.
- 1:21And it sucks because I live in Columbus.
- 1:24And that means all week this week,
- 1:26everybody who has never
- 1:27watched a football game
- 1:29will tell me how bad my team is.
- 1:30Right.
- 1:32Did they get smoked?
- 1:35I'm just looking right now.
- 1:37One score game.
- 1:38It's not like they would say
- 1:39that they suck.
- 1:40It's like they got blown out.
- 1:43They could lose by one point
- 1:44and everybody in this city
- 1:45will tell me how bad they are.
- 1:47Yeah.
- 1:50And then my Bears,
- 1:51who I thought I had all
- 1:52this optimism and all this hope.
- 1:55And then the Hail Mary last
- 1:56week that we talked about
- 1:57going into this year, this week,
- 1:59a lapse in defense on the
- 2:01last play of the first half
- 2:03to give up a touchdown.
- 2:05And then they just fell apart.
- 2:07And it looks like they're
- 2:09crumbling from within.
- 2:10And I feel like I have no
- 2:12joy in Mudville tonight.
- 2:14And speaking of Mudville,
- 2:17Jamie's Detroit Lions
- 2:19played in an utter monsoon
- 2:21and spanked the Green Bay Packers.
- 2:25They did.
- 2:25I got a little nervous there
- 2:27at the beginning with
- 2:28Branch getting ejected.
- 2:30But, yeah.
- 2:33They didn't seem to need him today.
- 2:34I guess not.
- 2:37And I hate the Packers.
- 2:39I don't like the Lions,
- 2:41but I hate the Packers.
- 2:44How can you not like the Lions?
- 2:45We've been terrible for so long.
- 2:50We're in the Bears' division.
- 2:52I can't like them.
- 2:53Yeah, that's fair.
- 2:56And then we're going to
- 2:57touch on one more piece of sports news,
- 2:58and then we'll get into the
- 2:59CrossFit stuff.
- 3:01But I wanted to share this
- 3:02because I thought this was really cool.
- 3:04In telling us where we are today in sports,
- 3:08I'm going to share the screen.
- 3:10Paige Bukers becomes the
- 3:12first college player to get
- 3:14a Nike sneaker, a signature Nike sneaker.
- 3:19Love it.
- 3:21I like her a lot as a player,
- 3:22and I like her personality
- 3:25on social media.
- 3:28She's an amazing shooter.
- 3:30She's an amazing player.
- 3:32The shoe is freaking awesome.
- 3:34I love the looks of it.
- 3:36And then it actually has
- 3:38stuff for her on the tongue.
- 3:43But there's a look of... Good colors.
- 3:45I like the colors a lot.
- 3:47Yeah.
- 3:49That's crazy.
- 3:51She's seriously the first
- 3:53college player ever to have a shoe.
- 3:56Nike.
- 3:56It says Nike.
- 3:57Okay.
- 3:58But you also have to think
- 3:58about a lot of the players
- 4:00couldn't get like big deals
- 4:03and stuff before because
- 4:04you couldn't accept any
- 4:05money and as a scholarship
- 4:08athlete and just now you
- 4:09can have some endorsement deals.
- 4:12So that's awesome for her.
- 4:14Yeah.
- 4:15Page buckets.
- 4:16You have the NIL issue.
- 4:18And then in men's college basketball,
- 4:21so many leave early.
- 4:24I think that's why women's
- 4:25basketball is taking off
- 4:27because you know the
- 4:28players and what team they're on.
- 4:29Yeah.
- 4:31And you can follow them for four years.
- 4:33On the men's side,
- 4:34it's just a shuffle all the time.
- 4:36And you know, living in Lansing, Michigan,
- 4:39I mean, Michigan State,
- 4:41the players just roll in
- 4:42and out all the time and
- 4:43you really don't have a
- 4:44consistent team year after year.
- 4:50The women's college game is
- 4:52kicking off this week, I think.
- 4:55Crazy that we're starting
- 4:56that season already, too.
- 4:58That is crazy.
- 5:02Not ready.
- 5:02Huge shout out.
- 5:03She's going to be the player of the year.
- 5:05As long as she stays healthy.
- 5:07She's had some bad luck the
- 5:09last few years.
- 5:10As long as she stays healthy,
- 5:12Juju and other players can certainly
- 5:17for that player of the year.
- 5:20Yeah, I have an East Coast bias, I guess.
- 5:23But it's hard for me to stay
- 5:26up late for those.
- 5:29Now that the Big Ten has
- 5:30games on the West Coast, oh my goodness,
- 5:33trying to stay up to watch
- 5:36like Oregon and Michigan.
- 5:39It was on early yesterday,
- 5:40but those games now could
- 5:42be on at ten thirty at
- 5:43night and it's going to be
- 5:45tough on this old body.
- 5:50Yes, Indiana Fever has a new coach.
- 5:53Not surprising.
- 5:54Stephanie White, I think.
- 5:55Stephanie White, yeah.
- 5:57She was Connecticut's coach last year.
- 6:02She played for Indiana as well.
- 6:05Oh, okay, cool.
- 6:08It was like a very,
- 6:09very predictable signing.
- 6:11Yeah, I heard it was,
- 6:12like I saw it being predicted,
- 6:14and then it came to
- 6:16fruition at the end of the week.
- 6:18So, yeah.
- 6:20Fun stuff in all sports.
- 6:23So that's awesome.
- 6:24But we want to talk about
- 6:26some of the CrossFit stuff.
- 6:27And we're going to start off
- 6:28with the all access behind the scenes.
- 6:31We are nearing the end of
- 6:33the eleven part documentary.
- 6:35Episode nine comes out
- 6:36tomorrow at twelve thirty p.m.
- 6:38I have a trailer for it,
- 6:40but I want to send out a
- 6:41huge thank you to the
- 6:42sponsors who made it possible,
- 6:44which was Beck Bodie.
- 6:45They're a financial company
- 6:48that helps people financial plan.
- 6:51And when you watch the video,
- 6:52there's a QR code.
- 6:53You can hit that and they
- 6:55can help you out with all
- 6:56of your financial planning needs.
- 6:58And they love working with
- 6:59CrossFitters because they
- 7:01know all about goal setting
- 7:03and doing the steps it
- 7:04takes to reach those goals.
- 7:07And that's kind of how they
- 7:08set up CrossFitters.
- 7:09The Financial Plan.
- 7:10So make sure you check that out.
- 7:12And of course, Thick Boy,
- 7:14who has been behind us in so many ways.
- 7:17And that documentary specifically,
- 7:20those were two big sponsors
- 7:22that got me to Birmingham
- 7:24and got me to film and got
- 7:27me an editor for the workout stuff.
- 7:29So thank you so much to them.
- 7:32Without them, this wouldn't be possible.
- 7:34But tomorrow,
- 7:35we're going to hit up Workout Eight,
- 7:38which was the Toaster Bar,
- 7:41Burpee Over Bar, and Heavy Clean,
- 7:44which our very own Jamie
- 7:45Latimer took second in.
- 7:48But yeah, so we are going to hit that up.
- 7:52And I have a little preview.
- 7:56No real theme this week.
- 7:57It's just kind of a
- 7:58smattering of some of the interviews,
- 8:00really small segments of them.
- 8:02And I'm going to play that now.
- 8:04so you get the best of both
- 8:05worlds you get to have fun
- 8:07but you also are competing
- 8:08against the very best if
- 8:10you think about the math
- 8:11it's point zero zero one
- 8:12percent is what's here in
- 8:14the final stage so after
- 8:15tasting it once do you want
- 8:17to come oh yeah I'm coming
- 8:19back you ain't gotta worry
- 8:20I'm tasting it once I'm
- 8:21already thinking about next
- 8:22season yeah the workout
- 8:25here the barbell like
- 8:27depending on what side you
- 8:29have to start on,
- 8:29you have to turn a separate direction,
- 8:31and it was just so confusing.
- 8:33And my brain was not understanding it,
- 8:35and the poor judge is like, oh my God,
- 8:37just tell me what to do.
- 8:37Help me, help me, sir.
- 8:39Oh my God, it's not your fault,
- 8:40I just don't understand.
- 8:41I'm gonna say fuck a lot,
- 8:42I'm really sorry.
- 8:44But we figured it out,
- 8:45so I got seven rounds,
- 8:46so I feel good about it.
- 8:48So in these moments,
- 8:49are you just an ear to listen,
- 8:51or are you giving him strategies?
- 8:53A little bit of both.
- 8:54I mean,
- 8:54I don't know what I'm talking about
- 8:55quite as much as he does,
- 8:56but a little bit of both.
- 8:58Ear to listen, mainly.
- 8:59Just let him talk it out,
- 9:00work through it in his head.
- 9:01How nervous do you get
- 9:02before you go somewhere?
- 9:04Real nervous.
- 9:05Real nervous.
- 9:08What did he say?
- 9:09Like I look like an FBI agent.
- 9:11Like, excuse me, sir,
- 9:12we've got a security breach.
- 9:15So being part of this community,
- 9:17it becomes more than the workouts.
- 9:18It becomes more than the leaderboard.
- 9:20It's just the camaraderie.
- 9:22It's more than I expected for this event.
- 9:25And that means the world.
- 9:27That's what keeps you going.
- 9:27That's what gets you up in
- 9:28the morning and say, all right, day three,
- 9:29let's go.
- 9:30Hey, back up.
- 9:35Old hat?
- 9:35Old hat with the stuff?
- 9:36No.
- 9:36Feels like the first time every time.
- 9:38It's horrible.
- 9:39I wish it felt like old hat, but no.
- 9:41So this is your first bus with him.
- 9:44Sure is.
- 9:44Are you having a ball?
- 9:47I'm having so much fun.
- 9:48I've learned a lot in a
- 9:51really short amount of time.
- 9:53It's cool.
- 9:53It's like I was fit enough to get here,
- 9:55and then it's just the depth of field.
- 9:58It's just wild.
- 9:59Girls are so good, so...
- 11:02That's a trailer, episode nine,
- 11:04tomorrow at twelve thirty p.m.
- 11:05Shout out Jonathan Ortega,
- 11:07Ellie Hiller and Holly Dugan,
- 11:09major players in putting this together.
- 11:12Couldn't have done it without them.
- 11:14As always, Jonathan and Holly.
- 11:17contributing continuously
- 11:19week after week with stuff
- 11:20for these documentaries and
- 11:22ellie hiller that the
- 11:23weekend getting some of the
- 11:24post uh event footage
- 11:28couldn't have done it
- 11:28without her what's one
- 11:30thing I hated from that
- 11:31workout montage do you know
- 11:32it I don't know the workout
- 11:40just I hate step over
- 11:42burpees oh yeah I know
- 11:46hate it.
- 11:48They were allowed.
- 11:50It is part of the rules.
- 11:51I just personally... Did you do it?
- 11:55Jamie, did you do it?
- 11:56I think I stepped my last
- 11:58burpee on maybe all the rounds.
- 12:04Maybe all but one round.
- 12:06Just to kind of get a
- 12:07breather before going back?
- 12:09Yeah.
- 12:10Plus I had to step, step.
- 12:12Yeah, that's true.
- 12:13Yeah, like what Katrina was talking about.
- 12:16You had to face certain ways
- 12:18for certain things.
- 12:19And depending on what side
- 12:20of the or what stagger you had,
- 12:23your rules were different,
- 12:25which made it really confusing.
- 12:27And a lot of athletes messed that up.
- 12:31And it made it hard to see
- 12:32who was winning.
- 12:36And some people, it seemed,
- 12:37had a straight shot down
- 12:39and straight shot back.
- 12:41Others had to do this twisty
- 12:42thing as they were going,
- 12:44which I feel didn't equate
- 12:49to evening out the
- 12:51difference in the bar stagger, for sure.
- 12:54But it was still a great event.
- 12:55Yeah, it was a good event.
- 12:57Still a great event.
- 13:00It's amazing how many people
- 13:02really dreaded that clean.
- 13:03Yeah.
- 13:04Because the people that were
- 13:05really good at the other
- 13:06two things were really
- 13:07dreading the clean.
- 13:08Yes.
- 13:09Because it was definitely heavy.
- 13:11And that's kind of what you get in these,
- 13:13this behind the scenes.
- 13:18So that's that.
- 13:20That'll be tomorrow.
- 13:21So excited how these are coming out.
- 13:25And I don't know if he knows,
- 13:26a couple weeks back I got a
- 13:28text from a friend named Lex who said,
- 13:30why don't you put the ages,
- 13:32age groups of each person
- 13:34on their names so we know
- 13:36what age group they're in.
- 13:38And I think that has added a
- 13:39little bit to the thing.
- 13:40So I thank her for that suggestion.
- 13:43Genius.
- 13:46Yeah.
- 13:47Just another step in the process.
- 13:48That's all.
- 13:51um cool so we had some big
- 13:54news this week uh one mr
- 13:56brent fukowski announced
- 13:59his retirement uh he did
- 14:01that on instagram and via
- 14:04an exclusive interview with
- 14:06the morning chalk up and
- 14:09here is his instagram post
- 14:13he said after twelve years
- 14:14competing in the sport the
- 14:16twenty twenty four rogue
- 14:17invitational will be my
- 14:18last competition it's been
- 14:20a tough decision knowing
- 14:21I'm still at my best and
- 14:22improving but the
- 14:23excitement for a new set of
- 14:24challenges far outweighs my sadness
- 14:28I have saying goodbye to
- 14:29this chapter of my life.
- 14:31The level of focus I gave while competing,
- 14:34I can now put into what is
- 14:35setting my soul on fire,
- 14:37improving this sport via
- 14:38the PFAA to help the next
- 14:40generation have it better than I did.
- 14:44Don't expect me to give
- 14:45anything less than a
- 14:45hundred percent next week
- 14:47at the Rogue Invitational.
- 14:48I plan to go out with a bang.
- 14:54I'm going to open the floor
- 14:55to you two if you have
- 14:56anything you would like to
- 14:58share about Brent.
- 14:59I have a couple notes of
- 15:01things that I'd like to share.
- 15:04I will give a couple career highlights.
- 15:06Three podiums, two bronze and a silver,
- 15:09three fourth-place finishes,
- 15:13and for a big stretch,
- 15:14dominated the West Regional.
- 15:17And one of the fourth-place
- 15:18finishes was a tie as well.
- 15:20He just lost the tiebreaker there.
- 15:24Yeah, that was, uh,
- 15:32it was the guy with the
- 15:33little flag blank.
- 15:37He never really competed much after that.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:39I'm sure Patrick comments, I think.
- 15:44I mean,
- 15:45I feel like I grew up in the sport
- 15:47of CrossFit watching him, right?
- 15:50Because he was basically my
- 15:51generation of qualification
- 15:54and regional side.
- 15:55I felt like I've watched his career.
- 15:58Lucas Holmberg, that's what he did.
- 16:00Or whatever his name is.
- 16:05Yeah, I mean,
- 16:05he's had an impressive career.
- 16:08He's getting at that age where
- 16:12you know it's it's a lot on
- 16:14the body and he's got a kid
- 16:16as well um he's been
- 16:20involved with the pfa and
- 16:22like he said he has if that
- 16:25desire to like train as
- 16:26hard as he did before isn't
- 16:28quite there and he's found
- 16:29a new passion in terms of
- 16:31trying to put the sport in
- 16:33a better place like you can't
- 16:35fault him for, you know,
- 16:36going that direction.
- 16:37And I'm sure he's going to
- 16:38do the best job that he can with that.
- 16:42And yeah,
- 16:42he's had super impressive career.
- 16:45Like he would be in that
- 16:45hall of fame list that we, you know,
- 16:47we talked about prior and
- 16:50he definitely helped the
- 16:51sport of CrossFit in Canada grow.
- 16:54He's one of the main, you know,
- 16:56athletes that Canadians
- 16:57have looked up to all these years.
- 16:59So yeah,
- 17:02he's earned it.
- 17:03Yeah.
- 17:03He's a happy retirement to
- 17:04him and looking forward to
- 17:06seeing him compete next weekend.
- 17:09And hopefully he finishes
- 17:11out his career on a great note.
- 17:14you think this will be a
- 17:15trend I'll give it up to
- 17:16jimmy here in a second do
- 17:17you think this will be a
- 17:18trend you know carrie
- 17:19pierce announced her
- 17:20retirement did rogue to
- 17:22finish it off uh kristen
- 17:24holta kind of did the same
- 17:26thing she did one more um
- 17:28if-three uh as well before
- 17:31she finished but they both
- 17:33had that like final moment
- 17:34on the rogue competition floor
- 17:37I think Carrie put her shoes down.
- 17:39Kristen didn't do that,
- 17:40but do you think that's
- 17:43going to be the trend going
- 17:44forward for the Hall of Famers?
- 17:50I think so.
- 17:50I think it's hard to say no to Rogue.
- 17:52You come off the games,
- 17:53you have everything paid for for Rogue.
- 17:55There's less pressure,
- 17:56so just finishing off with
- 17:57a little bit of...
- 18:00um you know a more intimate
- 18:02competition I guess I think
- 18:04makes sense um and you just
- 18:06finish off that year there
- 18:08and then you take your off
- 18:10season basically after that
- 18:11and not really off season
- 18:13whatever you want to call
- 18:14it your new season your new
- 18:17reality but I think it
- 18:18makes sense yeah yeah jamie
- 18:24I mean,
- 18:24I'll be curious to see if he just
- 18:27means he's retiring from
- 18:29CrossFit HQ events.
- 18:31Um,
- 18:31will he like continue to try to do
- 18:33Wadapalooza, do team stuff,
- 18:35do things that he, that he can,
- 18:36or is he like truly done competing?
- 18:38I've in a way, I mean, I can see, I mean,
- 18:44he put himself kind of in a
- 18:46bad spot asking for a
- 18:49somewhat of an ultimatum.
- 18:51Um,
- 18:52But I do think his... He
- 18:54seems genuine in his care for the PFAA.
- 18:59That does seem to be a place
- 19:01where his heart lies.
- 19:02So...
- 19:03putting his time and energy
- 19:04into that is I can't blame him for that.
- 19:07I,
- 19:07I find it hard to believe that he's
- 19:08going to totally stop competing though.
- 19:10Like that's in those people's DNA.
- 19:13The thing that's hard with
- 19:14our sport is like you,
- 19:15you do all the other sports.
- 19:16Like when I retired from hockey last year,
- 19:18like it's very easy for me
- 19:19to not play hockey, but in CrossFit,
- 19:22you're still going to continue to train.
- 19:25Right.
- 19:25And for the most part, right.
- 19:26Most people will continue to
- 19:27train and stay active and, and be Finn,
- 19:29whether they choose to do
- 19:30CrossFit or they choose to do more, um,
- 19:33Um, outdoor stuff like,
- 19:34like road biking or mountain biking,
- 19:37running like that,
- 19:38that is a separate thing.
- 19:39They might do other races and stuff,
- 19:41but it's, you know, you,
- 19:43you're still fit.
- 19:44And if you enter,
- 19:45if you ever enter the open and stuff,
- 19:46like you're still kind of competitive.
- 19:48And I think that's why you
- 19:49see a lot of these athletes, uh,
- 19:51You know,
- 19:52one year or not even a full year
- 19:54after retirement, you know,
- 19:55still dip their toes in in
- 19:57the water of certain competitions.
- 20:00And then, oh,
- 20:00they still have all this
- 20:01fitness that they've built
- 20:02from all these years and
- 20:04all these repetitions that
- 20:05they're still very
- 20:06competitive worldwide and
- 20:10can qualify for these things.
- 20:11So then I think it is easy to.
- 20:14you know,
- 20:14compete here and there as a team
- 20:16or just less pressure on
- 20:17yourself and still have
- 20:19other balance in your life
- 20:20and focus elsewhere.
- 20:22Yeah.
- 20:23How old is Brent?
- 20:24Like, thirty-two?
- 20:25I think he's thirty-three.
- 20:27I mean,
- 20:28I can see the guy possibly...
- 20:32Depending on how many
- 20:33athletes kind of push this
- 20:35thirty-five bracket,
- 20:37I could see him stepping
- 20:38into that stage possibly if things...
- 20:43go the direction he wants it
- 20:44to go if he's able to get
- 20:46this pfa to take off um and
- 20:49crossfit is in a position
- 20:50he feels like he wants to
- 20:53represent that I could see
- 20:54him doing that but yeah I
- 20:55could see him just doing
- 20:56things like water close our team stuff
- 21:00And we talked about the PFAA
- 21:02and the fact that when you
- 21:03have active athletes in the sport,
- 21:06it's hard to get certain stuff.
- 21:08And maybe he realizes that
- 21:10and he can have a different
- 21:11role even with CrossFit.
- 21:13And he's not affiliated with
- 21:14any training camp.
- 21:16He's the perfect athlete
- 21:17technically with the
- 21:18experience as a competitor
- 21:21and not have any skin in
- 21:22the game with other players
- 21:25that are competing that he could...
- 21:28either do testing,
- 21:29either do have some input
- 21:32on safety procedures or how
- 21:35to run certain things better.
- 21:37And he's not involved now in
- 21:38terms of the competition side.
- 21:39And maybe that's attractive to him.
- 21:40They could even give him a paid contract.
- 21:44Who knows?
- 21:44And maybe that was the thing
- 21:45is you can't be a
- 21:46competitor if you are working for,
- 21:49you know,
- 21:49this part of either CrossFit or PFA,
- 21:52but yeah.
- 21:55I think I'll get into my PFA
- 21:56part of my discussion in a minute,
- 21:58but I want to talk about
- 21:59him as the athlete and the person first.
- 22:02And that is, um, he was a game changer.
- 22:06He was really the true first
- 22:09tall athlete to succeed in the sport.
- 22:12Right.
- 22:13And, um, I think what,
- 22:17what that did is one, it,
- 22:20it showed other tall athletes.
- 22:21They could.
- 22:24Then I think the sport
- 22:25actually modified itself to
- 22:29almost attract more people like Brent,
- 22:33where we are today, the Dallins,
- 22:36the James, like those types of athletes.
- 22:39Yeah.
- 22:40I think one of the things
- 22:42that most impressed me was
- 22:44when he first started,
- 22:44he was known as the cardio guy.
- 22:46The chipper.
- 22:47He was the chipper.
- 22:48He'd win every chipper.
- 22:49Right.
- 22:50Worldwide.
- 22:51And then he got strong.
- 22:53And he really worked hard on
- 22:57his snatch and his clean
- 22:59and jerk to make them world class.
- 23:01He was technically strong.
- 23:03His technique was very, very good.
- 23:05I don't know.
- 23:07I'd have to look at his raw
- 23:08strength numbers.
- 23:09I think they're, they're good,
- 23:11but he's technically very,
- 23:12very good in terms of his
- 23:13snatching and stuff.
- 23:15So he, yeah.
- 23:17Wasn't it a clean and jerk
- 23:18that kind of kept him out of the games.
- 23:21And then he ended up.
- 23:26The one year it was a clean
- 23:27and jerk for sure.
- 23:28Maybe.
- 23:28Yeah.
- 23:32And then he worked on that
- 23:33and has gotten much better
- 23:35at that where it wasn't
- 23:36even a deficiency for him, which was very,
- 23:39very impressive.
- 23:41Um,
- 23:41a couple of memories I have of him are
- 23:43the ranch run where Sam
- 23:45Briggs was trying to catch him.
- 23:46I thought that was a classic moment.
- 23:48Um, the snatch that he levitated, uh,
- 23:52when he went over three
- 23:53hundred pounds and it came
- 23:55down and he did the like
- 23:57out like he was almost
- 23:58levitating the bar down.
- 24:00Um.
- 24:02And then personally,
- 24:04he's been on the show a couple times.
- 24:06He spent more time with us
- 24:07after the record button
- 24:09went off than he did while
- 24:11the record button was on.
- 24:13And he was so giving of his time.
- 24:15He gave us notes on stuff he
- 24:17had taken from previous years.
- 24:19He was always a very giving
- 24:22individual and one of my
- 24:25favorite people of all time
- 24:26because of the way he acted
- 24:29when the cameras weren't on.
- 24:31Right.
- 24:31He didn't have to do that.
- 24:32The cameras were off.
- 24:33Interview is over.
- 24:35And he spent as much time
- 24:36after the interview as we did on the air,
- 24:39probably more.
- 24:41And really,
- 24:42really dove into media stuff
- 24:45with us and his opinions
- 24:47and where he thought it should be.
- 24:48And and how can you be
- 24:50differentiate yourself and
- 24:52like almost being a mentor,
- 24:54which was really, really cool.
- 25:00and he does I know Patrick
- 25:01is saying can't wait to
- 25:02hear him providing color
- 25:04for a broadcast I think
- 25:06that's going to be amazing
- 25:07because he does have strong
- 25:09opinions about what a color
- 25:10commentator should be and
- 25:12he shared those notes with
- 25:13me and it's going to be
- 25:15amazing to see if he can pull that off
- 25:18Yeah.
- 25:19He's so well versed in the sport.
- 25:21Brent is a great speaker.
- 25:24I like to hear him talk.
- 25:26He doesn't fumble around his words.
- 25:28I think he would be excellent.
- 25:32He changed the game for a lot of things.
- 25:34He would go over the video
- 25:35review process for people.
- 25:37He changed the games in
- 25:38terms of how to study your
- 25:40workouts and try to find
- 25:41the smallest little parts
- 25:43of your strengths and
- 25:44weaknesses to better your score.
- 25:46He would really study the movements,
- 25:49the timing of things,
- 25:50how long everything would take.
- 25:52He was very intuitive.
- 25:55He would think about
- 25:55different ways to climb the rope or
- 25:58I remember he pulled out a
- 26:01split snatch or something at,
- 26:03at one of the events.
- 26:04And it's like,
- 26:04he had stuff in his back
- 26:05pocket always just from
- 26:07years of training and,
- 26:08and taking notes and being
- 26:10that professor.
- 26:11And like, I think that's another thing,
- 26:13thing that I take away from,
- 26:15him is just like the
- 26:16attention to detail that he
- 26:17always had in the sport.
- 26:19And I think that's important
- 26:21for others to see that.
- 26:24And that's what it took for him to,
- 26:26you know, make it to the top and,
- 26:28and to be successful.
- 26:30Corbin Dallas says,
- 26:31I think AJ Bartow is taller.
- 26:32I think he was too,
- 26:34but he did not ever see
- 26:35this that Brent did.
- 26:37Right.
- 26:39AJ was kind of a one trick
- 26:40pony when it came to the
- 26:41games and he was really
- 26:43good at that one pony,
- 26:45but that's all he had.
- 26:51So when it comes, so now that like,
- 26:54and that's why it's been
- 26:55tough for me to comment on
- 26:56the PFAA for a while, because I really,
- 26:58really respect Brent as a
- 27:00person and I really like him a lot.
- 27:02And he has come on our show
- 27:04several times and it's been
- 27:05awesome every time he's been here.
- 27:08But I do think, I wonder,
- 27:10has like the stuff that
- 27:11Carolyn's been saying about
- 27:13active athletes cannot have
- 27:15this position.
- 27:16And I know that we're not
- 27:17the only people saying that.
- 27:20Did that affect this
- 27:21decision that maybe he can
- 27:22be better at this position
- 27:25if he isn't an active athlete?
- 27:29My questions are,
- 27:31as we've been researching into the PFAA,
- 27:33you can't be a board member
- 27:35if you're not an active athlete.
- 27:38so are they going to modify
- 27:39their own rules so that
- 27:42brent can be a board member
- 27:43of his own thing or is he
- 27:44going to be a separate
- 27:46piece of that it's going to
- 27:47be interesting to see how
- 27:49they deal with that yeah I
- 27:52mean in a lot of sports
- 27:53they have like uh like the
- 27:55nhlpa alum and well I
- 27:56wonder if there's I mean I
- 27:59think he's gonna be like
- 28:00the president is what he
- 28:01said in one of the in the article
- 28:03When you look at players associations,
- 28:05there is a person who is
- 28:06not a player that is the
- 28:08main negotiator and is the main person.
- 28:11And it's so that the players
- 28:12don't get into the weeds
- 28:14and the sticky situations with ownership,
- 28:16right?
- 28:17You know, famously,
- 28:18Donald Fear is the one that
- 28:20changed how baseball
- 28:21structured everything.
- 28:23He was an attorney.
- 28:24And he did all the
- 28:26negotiating for the Major
- 28:27League Baseball Players Association.
- 28:30No player was involved in that.
- 28:31And it was ugly.
- 28:33And he was able to be ugly
- 28:35because he wasn't a player.
- 28:38If that makes sense.
- 28:40So apparently president is
- 28:43often a non-athlete.
- 28:46And so maybe that's the
- 28:48position he'll become.
- 28:51And I think it's going to be
- 28:52interesting to see if they, again,
- 28:55I beg and plead that the
- 28:56PFAA represent more
- 28:57athletes than they do.
- 29:00That's my biggest beef.
- 29:03I love the athletes.
- 29:04I want to protect the athletes,
- 29:05but I love the Masters athletes.
- 29:07And I love the team athletes.
- 29:09And I wish they had representation too.
- 29:14That is my plea to the PFAA.
- 29:19But I think he had these
- 29:20plans of retiring at the
- 29:22beginning of the season.
- 29:25And regardless of what
- 29:26happened at the games,
- 29:29I think that this was his plan all along.
- 29:31I think that Hopper wrote
- 29:33something like that in
- 29:34response to Hiller's post
- 29:36on Instagram earlier today,
- 29:38that this was his last competition.
- 29:42I guess the game was his last games.
- 29:46And I think when you can end
- 29:48your career...
- 29:50You know,
- 29:52it gets your decision.
- 29:53It's not like you didn't
- 29:54qualify and it was ended for you.
- 29:58I think that's also a good
- 29:59way to step out of, um, of the sport.
- 30:03But yeah, I mean, that's why like, uh,
- 30:05now that like I see him retire,
- 30:07like it also validates to
- 30:09me another reason as to
- 30:10like why he chose also
- 30:12probably to continue the competition,
- 30:14knowing that this was in
- 30:16the back of his mind, his last,
- 30:18his last competition, because to me, um,
- 30:21when you put those demands,
- 30:22but then you continue to
- 30:23comp to compete at the competition.
- 30:26I felt as an athlete, like that's like,
- 30:28which like, if you want safety,
- 30:30like maybe like that was
- 30:31the time maybe to step away
- 30:32and he continued and maybe
- 30:34he had other reasons.
- 30:35And this, you know,
- 30:36this to me shows maybe that that's,
- 30:38you know, that was a big reason for him.
- 30:39Like he already knew that
- 30:40this was his last season
- 30:42and he wanted to also do that for, um,
- 30:45himself and then also his
- 30:47way of honoring lazar was
- 30:48also to continue to
- 30:50continue to compete so I
- 30:51think a lot of just
- 30:53reflection on that when he
- 30:55announced his retirement I
- 30:56know this year's games
- 30:57weren't ideal but he did go
- 31:00out on the podium yep
- 31:02which, you know,
- 31:04you look at other sports
- 31:05when John Elway went out as
- 31:07a Super Bowl champion.
- 31:09Like, that means something.
- 31:12That's huge when you go out
- 31:13winning the championship.
- 31:15I know he didn't win it,
- 31:16but he wore the leader's
- 31:17jersey on the last event.
- 31:19Um,
- 31:20and the picture that I actually put for
- 31:22the thumbnail,
- 31:23I believe is from the last event, um,
- 31:26tonight, uh,
- 31:27cause he does have the leader shorts on.
- 31:30Um,
- 31:31and I wanted to show him in the leader
- 31:32shorts.
- 31:33That was kind of my, my idea behind that.
- 31:36Um,
- 31:37and I got that picture at this year's
- 31:38games, but, um, anyway, um,
- 31:42Kudos to Brent.
- 31:43Great career.
- 31:44Thank you for being one hell
- 31:45of a person and being
- 31:47awesome to us on this show,
- 31:49as well as I know you've
- 31:50been that way to other
- 31:51people as well and continued success.
- 31:55And I hope that what you do
- 31:57in the future is amazing.
- 31:59Representing athletes in the
- 32:00right way to further the
- 32:03sport for all of us.
- 32:08I wonder if you'd get into coaching too,
- 32:10maybe down the road.
- 32:12Programming coaching,
- 32:13if that interests him at all.
- 32:14He has some programming.
- 32:16Yeah.
- 32:16Like I've taken his snatch
- 32:18programming that he has.
- 32:21Um, yeah.
- 32:24When you talk to him about it,
- 32:26it doesn't sound like a
- 32:27passion thing for him.
- 32:28Yeah.
- 32:29It's like, hey,
- 32:30I have all these notes from what I did.
- 32:32And so I just share them with the world.
- 32:35It's more of like, hey,
- 32:36I've got all this stuff.
- 32:38It's just sitting here.
- 32:40Here you go.
- 32:42Rather than like, hey,
- 32:44this is what I want to do.
- 32:45Yeah, the professor project.
- 32:50Yeah.
- 32:51And doesn't he has friends
- 32:53that help him with all that?
- 32:56Yeah.
- 32:57Like his coach is Yeah, he Yeah,
- 32:59he has a coach,
- 33:00which I feel like is who
- 33:01actually works with Shelby.
- 33:04I think we're mentors a little bit.
- 33:06Yeah.
- 33:09Yeah.
- 33:11So great career.
- 33:14Kudos to you.
- 33:15Can't wait to see what happens next.
- 33:20Next this week,
- 33:21we also had an announcement
- 33:23from Will Morad,
- 33:25an announcement that something is coming.
- 33:29Is this what they call a
- 33:30hold the date card?
- 33:32Yeah, save the date, yeah.
- 33:33Save the date.
- 33:36Don't really know what's coming, but hey,
- 33:39save the date.
- 33:42um I will say that um
- 33:44there's nothing of
- 33:45substance at this point and
- 33:47I have not talked to will
- 33:48in a minute to know any
- 33:50more than that um but I
- 33:53will say that in my time
- 33:56during the games and the
- 33:57masters crossfit games when
- 34:00I was hanging around the
- 34:01ttt folks there was
- 34:04rumblings of something coming
- 34:07different league and I don't
- 34:10think it was I don't think
- 34:11it had anything to do with
- 34:13what happened with Lazar
- 34:14and I don't think wills has
- 34:15anything to do with what
- 34:16happened with Lazar I think
- 34:18it is hey we need to make a
- 34:20better structured season
- 34:22and this is our effort to do so so
- 34:30And when I say I heard it
- 34:32around the TTT folks,
- 34:33I don't think TTT had
- 34:34anything much to do with this.
- 34:36Maybe they did.
- 34:37I am not saying that in any way.
- 34:39It's just Will is a TTT athlete,
- 34:42and that's who he was
- 34:43hanging out with at the
- 34:44Masters Games and at the CrossFit Games.
- 34:49Right.
- 34:51I didn't even know he was TTT.
- 34:54He was originally and just
- 34:56went back this season.
- 34:59he was proven and then went
- 35:00back to yeah he was a coach
- 35:02at proven left and now is
- 35:04coached by max got it yeah
- 35:10so um and max was at the
- 35:11masters games um as well as
- 35:14a plethora of their other
- 35:15coaches uh because it was a
- 35:17short drive from georgia
- 35:20yeah I mean and ttt just
- 35:21did their podcast the other
- 35:23night talking about the season and
- 35:27I don't feel like they went
- 35:28much into Will's side,
- 35:31more of just the game
- 35:33season being online mostly
- 35:35and their rumors that they've heard.
- 35:37So there's obviously been
- 35:38all kinds of rumors all over the place,
- 35:40right?
- 35:43When I started to listen to that one, too,
- 35:45I actually listened to it
- 35:46going to bed and fell asleep.
- 35:48So I have to go back and
- 35:49listen to like probably the second half.
- 35:51But it felt like at the
- 35:53beginning they knew they
- 35:54were very careful of what
- 35:56they knew and what they
- 35:57just wanted to talk about.
- 35:59Right.
- 36:00I agree.
- 36:01I mean, yeah,
- 36:02it's almost like they know
- 36:03that it's going to be online,
- 36:05which I feel like at this point.
- 36:07that seems to be all but confirmed.
- 36:09Like everyone has agreed
- 36:10that that is the case.
- 36:12It is going to be whether,
- 36:15whether it's fully online
- 36:17or partially online with some sanctionals,
- 36:20right?
- 36:22Uh,
- 36:22Patrick Clark says this sounds like
- 36:23spring professional football league, XFL,
- 36:26UFL, USFL.
- 36:27I've said the exact same
- 36:28thing in past show.
- 36:30I really don't think there's
- 36:30enough money to go around
- 36:32to support more than one league.
- 36:33Um,
- 36:35the way they have everything
- 36:36structured now,
- 36:38but those are a couple of
- 36:39talking points that I just
- 36:40thought about this week when this came up,
- 36:42because I think I said last week,
- 36:44I don't think there's a
- 36:45chance of another league
- 36:46competing with the CrossFit games,
- 36:49unless you just have a boatload of money.
- 36:53Right.
- 36:53And at that point,
- 36:54is it sustainable model?
- 36:56And like,
- 36:57I feel like I've gone through
- 36:58this with the woman's
- 36:59hockey for like so many years.
- 37:01And now it's just like
- 37:01bringing me back to what I
- 37:04literally went through for
- 37:04so many years was we had a league.
- 37:07It wasn't quite professional
- 37:09in what we wanted.
- 37:10People had money.
- 37:11They started another league.
- 37:14Fans got split.
- 37:16it wasn't as good as, you know, media side,
- 37:19it looked great.
- 37:19And then there was a lot of
- 37:21stuff that behind the scenes,
- 37:22wasn't great about the new league.
- 37:23And then there were still
- 37:25things in ours that could improve.
- 37:26And then like,
- 37:27it was just for so many years,
- 37:28like we were divided.
- 37:30And then finally this past year,
- 37:31they finally created one league.
- 37:33And then now it's, it's back to,
- 37:35it's kind of taken like the best of,
- 37:37of both things.
- 37:38And now it's thriving, but it's just like,
- 37:42as soon as you start dividing it,
- 37:45like into different paths
- 37:47and different leagues.
- 37:48Like I just, I don't know.
- 37:50I don't think it's going to
- 37:52be sustainable and it can look good.
- 37:54Like I said,
- 37:54for one year and it can look
- 37:55good on the surface,
- 37:57but behind the scenes and
- 37:59how things will get like, like money wise,
- 38:02like it we'll see in two, three years,
- 38:05whether it could actually be a thing.
- 38:10But yeah.
- 38:13Yeah.
- 38:13I mean, how many,
- 38:14how many of these comps have,
- 38:16gone under and take you know
- 38:19like that's the last thing
- 38:20we need is people to get on
- 38:21board with one of these pay
- 38:23their money do a qualifier
- 38:25pay for pay a three hundred
- 38:26dollar entry fee and book
- 38:27hotels and just hit the fan like
- 38:32And you see all these
- 38:33sponsors giving money to
- 38:34CrossFit and they invest
- 38:36for a few years and then they're like,
- 38:37shit,
- 38:38we invested too much and now we need
- 38:40to pull back and rearrange
- 38:43our model because it's not
- 38:44as sunshine and rainbows as
- 38:47what we thought.
- 38:48And...
- 38:49we'll see, but I have a,
- 38:51like my gut feeling is it
- 38:53might be like a couple year thingy.
- 38:55And for some of the athletes
- 38:56that might be behind it, that might be,
- 38:58you know,
- 38:58while they're actively in the game,
- 39:00like that's what they want.
- 39:01But for ten, fifteen,
- 39:03twenty years down the road, like,
- 39:06do they care about it as
- 39:08long as they got what they
- 39:09needed when they were there?
- 39:10Like, and I guess this is exact,
- 39:13like this seems so much
- 39:14like what I've already been through.
- 39:15And yeah.
- 39:17So my thoughts this week
- 39:19have been that all these,
- 39:21like what Patrick mentioned, XFL, USFL,
- 39:25US football, whatever, USF,
- 39:28while they didn't succeed,
- 39:30they were innovative.
- 39:32And so let's take a step
- 39:35back and think about how
- 39:36can we do things better to
- 39:40improve what we're doing
- 39:43to copy what may be coming
- 39:45from other competitions.
- 39:46One, hey,
- 39:47how about letting us know when
- 39:48things are happening early
- 39:50enough that we can plan
- 39:52like our vacation time and
- 39:53our hotels and our flights
- 39:56to go to the events of the season.
- 39:59Two,
- 40:00when you go to any other sporting
- 40:02event and you look in the stands,
- 40:04everybody's wearing a jersey.
- 40:07The only thing CrossFit
- 40:08sells are shirts that say CrossFit.
- 40:14They don't say Carolyn Prevost.
- 40:17They don't say Jamie Latimer.
- 40:19They don't have your numbers
- 40:20from the games.
- 40:22You can get the athlete jerseys.
- 40:25How?
- 40:26And get them in a timely fashion?
- 40:29At the games, you always could.
- 40:31It's an afterthought done by
- 40:32the lead sponsor a couple
- 40:34times that never succeeded
- 40:37because they couldn't
- 40:38handle the demand of what people wanted.
- 40:43which tells you something
- 40:45you're missing out on
- 40:46merchandising and marketing
- 40:48of these things to market your sport.
- 40:54You've got all these
- 40:54training programs around
- 40:56make underdog shirts that
- 40:57can actually say CrossFit on them.
- 41:00Yeah.
- 41:01Make a mayhem shirt that can
- 41:03say CrossFit on them.
- 41:06Those are,
- 41:06that's a licensing you have that
- 41:09nobody else has.
- 41:11And it's a way to stream
- 41:12income into your business
- 41:13that you have not tapped into.
- 41:16You've let third party
- 41:17people do whatever the hell
- 41:18they wanted to.
- 41:19And they have to skirt
- 41:20around the rules and can't
- 41:22use the word CrossFit on them.
- 41:23Right.
- 41:24So they don't look,
- 41:26it's the cheap replica
- 41:27instead of like the real
- 41:29replica that has the
- 41:31stitched numbers and the stitched,
- 41:32you know what I mean?
- 41:35Like that is ridiculous and
- 41:37should be done.
- 41:39They also need to live stream everything.
- 41:42I don't care if you can't
- 41:44afford the big one.
- 41:45However,
- 41:46if you have to do it down and dirty,
- 41:47figure out a way to live
- 41:49stream everything.
- 41:50Screw the haters that jump
- 41:52in the comments and say
- 41:53it's not good enough.
- 41:55Make sure you do it and
- 41:57stream everything that goes
- 41:58on so that people can tune
- 42:00in and watch the sport.
- 42:02Right now, nobody can watch it.
- 42:04That means that you're not
- 42:05growing what you're doing.
- 42:09And then there has to be
- 42:12enough consistency to make a plan.
- 42:15You can't change the rules
- 42:17every freaking year and
- 42:19expect people to be able to follow along.
- 42:22Right.
- 42:23You just can't.
- 42:27Those are five things you
- 42:28could change that improve
- 42:30the sport today.
- 42:33Tap into other revenue streams,
- 42:36stream everything,
- 42:39announce everything early
- 42:40enough so people can make plans.
- 42:44So be consistent with your season.
- 42:49Okay, four.
- 42:50I'll leave the fifth one up
- 42:52to someone else in the chat.
- 42:58But those are four basic things.
- 43:00If I'm starting a league to
- 43:01compete or if I'm CrossFit
- 43:02and I want to stave off competition,
- 43:05that I need to do tomorrow.
- 43:09Because this, like,
- 43:10letting third parties do
- 43:12shirts and stuff like that
- 43:13and then trying to sign
- 43:14them on as the vendor to make the money,
- 43:17license it and make your
- 43:18own money up front.
- 43:21You license the shirt.
- 43:23You give Carolyn X percent.
- 43:26You give yourself a big
- 43:28chunk of it for selling the licensing,
- 43:30and the vendor gets some
- 43:31for making the shirt.
- 43:35That's what every sports league does.
- 43:38If I buy a Patrick Mahomes jersey,
- 43:40he gets a percentage of that.
- 43:44Which is the way it should go.
- 43:45I actually think more
- 43:46jerseys would sell if
- 43:47people knew that their
- 43:49athletes were getting them.
- 43:50Every time they've put them up for sale,
- 43:52the vendor can't handle the demand.
- 43:55It tells you how many people
- 43:56want a freaking jersey.
- 43:58Normally,
- 43:58you should have it on the website
- 44:00for at least a year.
- 44:01The athletes that were
- 44:02competing at the games that year,
- 44:03it stays on the website the
- 44:04full year for people to order.
- 44:06And then the following year,
- 44:08once you get the new
- 44:08athletes that qualify,
- 44:10you can have the new athletes.
- 44:12And then you still have the
- 44:13more popular ones that made
- 44:14it the year prior.
- 44:16You keep those ones on the
- 44:17website maybe as like,
- 44:18we've made too much, little deals.
- 44:22But yearly,
- 44:23you should have the current
- 44:25athletes that are competing
- 44:26in the season.
- 44:29We have a couple of files.
- 44:31Craig says,
- 44:33an athlete development program
- 44:34with teams.
- 44:36There's just no future for the teams.
- 44:38Like there's no scholarship opportunity.
- 44:40So like a lot of athletes
- 44:41that would be great in CrossFit,
- 44:42like why would you compete
- 44:44in CrossFit at a young age?
- 44:46Like you can,
- 44:46you should be using it as
- 44:48supplement for your sports
- 44:50to get a scholarship at, you know,
- 44:52individual sport or team
- 44:54sport versus specializing as a team.
- 44:57Because there's just like
- 44:59the better athletes are
- 44:59just not in CrossFit.
- 45:00Like at, at the teenage age,
- 45:02they're playing all these other sports.
- 45:04Yeah.
- 45:05So unless there was actually
- 45:07a route to go get your college paid for,
- 45:12then right.
- 45:17Make it an enjoyable in-person event.
- 45:22I agree.
- 45:22I think semifinals is very enjoyable.
- 45:25I think the games really stinks lately.
- 45:29But you're watching from a fan.
- 45:30How do you bring new people
- 45:32on that don't know the sport?
- 45:35Every time that there's an event,
- 45:36you should be able to see
- 45:37on the live screen what is
- 45:38the damn workout.
- 45:39Because if you just watch it
- 45:41right away and you don't
- 45:42know what's happening and
- 45:43you're not a part of the CrossFit sport,
- 45:45you should be able to see
- 45:45what they're doing.
- 45:47It just needs to be more visually...
- 45:51easier for not just our
- 45:54people watching it but
- 45:55people have no idea what's
- 45:56happening I just look at it
- 45:58and just know right away oh
- 45:59this person is in the lead
- 46:00uh this is what they seem
- 46:02to be doing live viewership
- 46:04which is how you're going
- 46:05to really grow the sport
- 46:06you're not going to grow
- 46:07the sport from people just
- 46:08going to fort worth or
- 46:10madison or wherever that's the
- 46:13true true fan like you're
- 46:15only going to get true fans
- 46:16showing up at the in-person
- 46:17event people who are
- 46:19knee-deep in crossfit and
- 46:21yeah I think half those
- 46:25people want to go stream
- 46:26everything because you need
- 46:27to make new fans right yes
- 46:29and it needs to be very
- 46:30visually appealing it needs
- 46:32to be sent kill taylor
- 46:33mentioned in the chat kill
- 46:35taylor's a great
- 46:37resource to get people.
- 46:38It's something you can stream.
- 46:40They stream the quarterfinals.
- 46:42We have said on the show
- 46:43that if everything goes online next year,
- 46:45we're going to copy what
- 46:46they do and try to get
- 46:47other athletes to jump on
- 46:49and do that as well.
- 46:51As many people that can
- 46:52stream what's going on, the better.
- 46:58But it'd be better if
- 47:02CrossFit tried to do the
- 47:03same thing or whatever the
- 47:05competitor's league was.
- 47:17Yep.
- 47:18Patrick says,
- 47:18wait till you see what we do
- 47:19for Belgrade games.
- 47:21I think you'll see some of
- 47:21what you just brought up in two weeks.
- 47:25Can't wait.
- 47:31Napoleon says,
- 47:33haven't had a Scott Cries in a while.
- 47:36Apparently,
- 47:37you've missed the beginnings of
- 47:38the last two shows.
- 47:41Yeah,
- 47:41that Hail Mary made you a little
- 47:42teary-eyed, I think.
- 47:45I was sobbing like a baby
- 47:47right before we went on air.
- 47:51I like a lot of my teams.
- 47:53I love the Chicago Bears.
- 47:56I love the Chicago Bears,
- 47:58then I love CrossFit.
- 48:00Chicago Bears have been in
- 48:01my life since nineteen eighty two.
- 48:03I've loved them ever since.
- 48:04And they break my heart week
- 48:08after week after week.
- 48:13OK, so we've talked about the league,
- 48:15we've talked about all that stuff.
- 48:17And then to rub salt in the wound,
- 48:19CrossFit announced this
- 48:21week that the details for
- 48:23the upcoming open will be
- 48:25out in December.
- 48:25Yeah.
- 48:26Yeah.
- 48:28have talked the last three
- 48:29weeks that it was like
- 48:30november sixth eighth I
- 48:33think eighth last year um
- 48:37now they've pushed it to
- 48:38december and they said that
- 48:40they wanted to bring out
- 48:41the information earlier
- 48:42like than yeah prior years
- 48:44and I'm like well is this
- 48:46earlier yeah but
- 48:54Kenneth says,
- 48:55I only like the Bears for Tyson Bajent.
- 48:57I only like Tyson Bajent
- 48:58because of the Bears.
- 48:59How about that?
- 49:02Scott.
- 49:03I actually like Tyson Bajent.
- 49:07Rogue kicks off this week.
- 49:09Carolyn,
- 49:09you're planning to head over to Scotland?
- 49:12Yep.
- 49:12I leave Tuesday after work.
- 49:15I'm a little stressed right now.
- 49:17I need to do a lot of things
- 49:18before then for my lesson
- 49:20plan stuff for school, but
- 49:23Yeah, leaving Tuesday after work.
- 49:25What's that flight like?
- 49:27I leave at six p.m.
- 49:29I get to London in the
- 49:32morning and go from London to Aberdeen.
- 49:37I think I get there around
- 49:38like nine thirty a.m.
- 49:40over there.
- 49:42On the sixth day?
- 49:43On the Wednesday, yeah.
- 49:45Wow.
- 49:46Yeah.
- 49:47Can you sleep on a plane?
- 49:49Normally, yes.
- 49:53We'll see how much sleep I get.
- 49:55I'm hoping because then I
- 49:57got to be in the morning
- 49:58hours of over there.
- 50:00So hopefully, yeah, we'll try to.
- 50:03So you have.
- 50:07You have.
- 50:08And Lex is also going from
- 50:10California and she'll meet
- 50:12me there also on Wednesday.
- 50:15She leaves tomorrow night as
- 50:16well or Tuesday night.
- 50:19So it's been kind of put out
- 50:21there that you've done some
- 50:22testing for Rogue.
- 50:24Are you testing when you get there,
- 50:26like first thing Wednesday morning?
- 50:29I don't have anything planned.
- 50:31Like last year,
- 50:32I went to Texas in case they needed to.
- 50:36And then because of the rain,
- 50:37I ended up testing a few
- 50:39things early morning before
- 50:43athletes got there.
- 50:45who knows at this point,
- 50:46once the floor is laid out,
- 50:47they might make,
- 50:48make me do a round or two
- 50:49of something just to see timing wise,
- 50:51but perhaps,
- 50:52but I think everything's
- 50:54basically set in stone right now.
- 50:56And especially that it's indoor.
- 50:57I don't foresee many changes,
- 51:00but it might just be some
- 51:01transition stuff just to
- 51:02see how long certain things take.
- 51:04But yeah, I mean,
- 51:09Andrew Sten says I might be
- 51:10on your flight from London to Aberdeen.
- 51:15uh patrick says we are
- 51:16stealing your co-host for
- 51:17our preview show tomorrow
- 51:19by the way send us your
- 51:20pics carolyn um that's not
- 51:23stealing uh everybody's a
- 51:25free agent on this show and
- 51:28we're all able to go on any
- 51:29other show if asked uh we
- 51:33don't mind helping out
- 51:33wherever we can um so uh
- 51:44you don't have to confirm or deny,
- 51:45but you have to test the
- 51:46workouts in a kilt.
- 51:47Oh, I hope they get that.
- 51:52I hope they get that too.
- 51:53They had that one video that they, um,
- 51:57they, they were like sewing.
- 51:59So I like, I mean,
- 52:00I feel like it would be a
- 52:01miss not to give that to the athletes.
- 52:05Can I, can I, I'll ask you this question.
- 52:07You were a tester last year.
- 52:09Did you get a goodie bag for
- 52:10being the tester athlete or
- 52:12was it only the athletes on the floor?
- 52:15Only the athletes on the floor.
- 52:19I can kind of see that,
- 52:20but I think you also kind
- 52:21of deserve it too.
- 52:22I mean, they brought me there,
- 52:23so I think that's true.
- 52:28I take that as that's my goodie bag.
- 52:32Um, Oh yeah.
- 52:33They, they are doing a, uh,
- 52:34a kid killed in a set of
- 52:38rogue golf clubs.
- 52:39They're getting golf clubs.
- 52:41I don't know.
- 52:42Oh man.
- 52:42But there is like a longest drive thing.
- 52:45What?
- 52:46At the like last,
- 52:48like I think it was last year.
- 52:49They,
- 52:50they had like a baseball simulator
- 52:53thingy.
- 52:54Um,
- 52:55Jamie acts like she's a good golfer.
- 52:57Maybe they would get that.
- 52:58I'm a pretty good golfer.
- 53:01Says every golfer ever.
- 53:05Yeah, the Thursday night,
- 53:06there's a longest range.
- 53:08I got to enter that.
- 53:09I haven't golfed in a couple years, though,
- 53:10but I can swing a club.
- 53:14I don't know if you've seen
- 53:15the event schedule,
- 53:16but for us that are stateside,
- 53:20if you're on the East Coast,
- 53:21you'll have to get up
- 53:22pretty early most mornings.
- 53:24If you're on the West Coast,
- 53:26probably have to stay up
- 53:27late a few nights.
- 53:30But I know like the first
- 53:32Friday morning is like seven thirty a.m.
- 53:35Eastern time.
- 53:36I think Saturday morning is five a.m.
- 53:40Eastern time and Sunday is
- 53:43around that time as well.
- 53:47Yeah, well,
- 53:49so we get the workouts tomorrow, right?
- 53:50Monday, they release them.
- 53:52Patrick,
- 53:52I hope that there's like a woman's
- 53:54versus men's division.
- 53:55That's what I'm hoping for,
- 53:56for a longest reign or longest drive.
- 53:59I'm sure.
- 53:59Because I cannot compete
- 54:01against some of the men
- 54:02that will be going.
- 54:09The other kind of newsworthy
- 54:11stuff are James Sprague had pneumonia,
- 54:14was debating on whether he
- 54:16was going or not,
- 54:17has decided he is attending the event.
- 54:20So he is going now.
- 54:21And that this show will,
- 54:23Jamie and I will do some
- 54:24update shows over the weekend.
- 54:27In between,
- 54:28I'm sure my teams will do so
- 54:30good this weekend.
- 54:31I won't cry a bit before
- 54:33getting on the air.
- 54:34But we'll get on the air a couple times.
- 54:36And then hopefully we can do...
- 54:39like a post event show maybe
- 54:41early next week uh when
- 54:44carolyn gets back uh
- 54:46because I know with the
- 54:47travel and all that stuff
- 54:50trying to get coordinated
- 54:52with them in scotland may
- 54:53be tough uh but maybe we'll
- 54:56uh get with her when she
- 54:57gets back to talk about
- 54:59what she saw live and then
- 55:01she knows that anytime
- 55:02we're on the air she and
- 55:04she sees us she knows how
- 55:05to get in and say hi
- 55:11Uh, Jody, uh,
- 55:13you're a better woman than I. Same.
- 55:16I mean, I will say I'm, I'm usually up,
- 55:19but not up and around.
- 55:22Like Aaron gets up for work at five AM.
- 55:26So yes,
- 55:27I wake up and then I have to get
- 55:29Lucas up.
- 55:30He gets on the bus at like six forty.
- 55:32So I'm up, but man,
- 55:34I try to not start my day
- 55:35till like nine AM.
- 55:35Yeah.
- 55:37I used to be like, uh,
- 55:40I actually did five a.m.
- 55:43workouts for a while.
- 55:47But I was I was in bed early.
- 55:48Like I complain about late nights now.
- 55:51Like I was in bed early, early.
- 55:53I mean, that's like Lex.
- 55:54Lex is three thirty a.m.
- 55:56or three fifteen a.m.
- 55:58sometimes.
- 55:58And but she's in bed like that.
- 56:00That's just insane.
- 56:01That is insane.
- 56:04Honestly,
- 56:04when I'm on that schedule and I'm
- 56:05in California, it's really not that bad.
- 56:07I'm like tired literally at
- 56:09like six thirty seven p.m.
- 56:11I just get used to it.
- 56:12Yeah,
- 56:13but that's really your ten ten thirty.
- 56:16I know.
- 56:16So like I just I basically
- 56:18stay on the same time zone.
- 56:21So speaking of that,
- 56:23one of the last things I
- 56:24have in my notes for
- 56:25tonight is we just went
- 56:27through the fallback an hour.
- 56:29How does that affect you and
- 56:31your training when we have
- 56:33to change times either back or forward?
- 56:39I don't think it affects for me.
- 56:42I could use an extra two
- 56:43hours today for the work
- 56:44that I still have to do for
- 56:46school this week.
- 56:49I need to do for tomorrow.
- 56:50I feel like the back doesn't
- 56:52affect me so much.
- 56:53It's the forward.
- 56:53When I lose, they both affect me now.
- 56:58When I was younger,
- 56:59like they didn't really
- 56:59affect the forward affected me a little.
- 57:01The back didn't now as I'm getting older,
- 57:04they both affect me.
- 57:05And it takes me about a week
- 57:06just to kind of get my
- 57:08circadian rhythm back.
- 57:10Yeah.
- 57:11Um,
- 57:12I just feel like I don't sleep well for
- 57:16like a, like five days.
- 57:18I could see that.
- 57:20See, I'm like a night owl.
- 57:23And so I feel like it's
- 57:23better for me that it's
- 57:25dark at five o'clock and
- 57:27maybe I can wind down by nine, ten p.m.
- 57:29instead of winding down at one a.m.
- 57:33So, yeah, I don't know.
- 57:36But yeah,
- 57:37it was it was dark at like five
- 57:39thirty dark.
- 57:43Yeah, it's going to be bad.
- 57:47Walking the dog is going to be tough now.
- 57:56He likes to go out at like
- 57:57seven o'clock at night and
- 57:58now it's going to be pitch black.
- 57:59Yes.
- 58:04He always wants to go out as
- 58:04soon as Jeopardy comes on.
- 58:06There, I sound really old.
- 58:10He knows.
- 58:10He knows.
- 58:11Yeah.
- 58:14This barbell spin put out
- 58:15this week that no failed
- 58:17drug tests from the twenty
- 58:18twenty four CrossFit games.
- 58:21Do we think that testing was
- 58:23aggressive or do you think
- 58:25because of the instance, maybe we just.
- 58:31Check the box.
- 58:33I'm sure they still did the top five.
- 58:38They don't test that much.
- 58:40Everyone that competes at
- 58:41the games has been tested
- 58:44on the individual side.
- 58:47Every single athlete at the semis.
- 58:49If it was a backfill for
- 58:51whatever reason they didn't get,
- 58:52normally they get an at-home test.
- 58:54Some of the athletes got
- 58:55tested prior at home.
- 58:58Once they're at the games,
- 58:59it's not many that get tested there.
- 59:05Maybe the top...
- 59:07Ten?
- 59:07Not even?
- 59:08Maybe top five?
- 59:09I don't know.
- 59:10I can't imagine some more than top five.
- 59:11Let me ask you this.
- 59:12If we go to an online semifinal,
- 59:15which none of this we know,
- 59:17there's no place where
- 59:18they're all at to test them
- 59:20before they get to the games.
- 59:22Right.
- 59:22That's a huge issue with
- 59:24going online is the amount
- 59:27of things people can do
- 59:28with drugs and in terms of
- 59:31reps and videos and fake
- 59:33weights and all of that.
- 59:35When you start putting...
- 59:38I mean,
- 59:38we went to the games prior online
- 59:40and maybe it wasn't as bad then,
- 59:42but I just think if
- 59:43everything goes online,
- 59:44it's just going to get
- 59:45worse in terms of the
- 59:47cheating that can happen
- 59:48and the cycles that people
- 59:51will be going through.
- 59:52Well,
- 59:53look at the Masters and the fifty to
- 59:55fifty four year old
- 59:56division was completely
- 59:58destroyed because there was
- 1:00:00no testing prior to the games.
- 1:00:02Yep.
- 1:00:10I don't know if they're
- 1:00:10going to have to do a
- 1:00:11little bit more like at
- 1:00:13quarterfinals or semis,
- 1:00:16maybe send out like maybe top.
- 1:00:18I don't know.
- 1:00:18They're going to have to do
- 1:00:19some random top five,
- 1:00:21ten people send out some
- 1:00:25home drug tests and do that
- 1:00:27for quarter semis.
- 1:00:32So Patrick says they don't care.
- 1:00:33It's a cash grab now.
- 1:00:35That's my point.
- 1:00:36Because you're saying it's a cash grab now,
- 1:00:38you're just letting the sport die.
- 1:00:41Then give it up to somebody
- 1:00:42else because if you don't
- 1:00:44care and it's just a cash grab,
- 1:00:48let somebody else do it
- 1:00:49where they can make the
- 1:00:50improvements needed to grow the sport.
- 1:00:55Not let it die on the vine.
- 1:00:57The thing is, people are like,
- 1:01:00I've heard some people say,
- 1:01:02pay for the licensing of
- 1:01:04the word CrossFit, but
- 1:01:06and sell that off, like make CrossFit,
- 1:01:08keep the money from the open.
- 1:01:09But like, if you're another,
- 1:01:10if you're another league or whatever,
- 1:01:12you're just going to call
- 1:01:12it the fitness of whatever.
- 1:01:14Like,
- 1:01:14why would you let CrossFit keep all
- 1:01:16the money from the open and stuff?
- 1:01:17Like if it's your money that
- 1:01:19you're investing in,
- 1:01:20you're not going to
- 1:01:20generate anything from the open.
- 1:01:21Like,
- 1:01:22why would you not just call it the
- 1:01:24fitness games?
- 1:01:26Like you don't need the word CrossFit.
- 1:01:28I think, I mean, we know what CrossFit is,
- 1:01:29so it helps with the history of it, but.
- 1:01:34Yeah.
- 1:01:35If you take, if you,
- 1:01:39this is my true feeling here.
- 1:01:42If you take CrossFit off of the season,
- 1:01:44it doesn't mean as much.
- 1:01:47I agree.
- 1:01:47At least for the foreseeable future.
- 1:01:50Now maybe you can build it
- 1:01:51into something special,
- 1:01:53but right now it doesn't mean anything.
- 1:01:55If you take the open away
- 1:01:57from the sport as then you're,
- 1:02:02you're taking the beauty
- 1:02:03away from what it is.
- 1:02:05The open is a way for everybody,
- 1:02:07whether it's realistic or
- 1:02:09not to say I get to play.
- 1:02:14I did the same competition as X, Y,
- 1:02:15and Z who qualified for the games.
- 1:02:17And I got to compare myself
- 1:02:19to that person and this
- 1:02:20person in this age group.
- 1:02:21Yeah.
- 1:02:22And then that bleeds into
- 1:02:24people going into the
- 1:02:25affiliates and growing into
- 1:02:28crossfit as a methodology
- 1:02:30the concept is great the
- 1:02:31concept was great there was
- 1:02:33a few things that needed to
- 1:02:35change a few things to get
- 1:02:37better the open if you made
- 1:02:38the open matter like I did
- 1:02:40before it was like the open
- 1:02:43is fun and it's a great
- 1:02:44community event and and all that um
- 1:02:48I just think that there
- 1:02:49needs to be more than one
- 1:02:50path to the games.
- 1:02:51If there was injuries or if
- 1:02:52you just were sick that
- 1:02:53weekend or you didn't perform very well,
- 1:02:55like you should have more than one way,
- 1:02:58which is why I like the
- 1:02:59last chance qualifier for
- 1:03:01certain athletes.
- 1:03:02I didn't quite, you know, we were close,
- 1:03:04but you know,
- 1:03:05got to get a couple extra spots,
- 1:03:07but like something like, you know,
- 1:03:08after the semifinals,
- 1:03:09here are the options.
- 1:03:10Like there's other routes to
- 1:03:11also get to the games,
- 1:03:12which is like the sanctional season,
- 1:03:14but there was fricking, you know,
- 1:03:16You know, you didn't need that many.
- 1:03:17If you had, you know, no more than six,
- 1:03:20you can't have that many,
- 1:03:21but like no more than like,
- 1:03:23let's say six globally.
- 1:03:25And then those, as well as, you know,
- 1:03:30the original route to
- 1:03:32complete your roster for
- 1:03:34the games like that,
- 1:03:35that would make sense.
- 1:03:36And like the system is not broken.
- 1:03:39That was there before that
- 1:03:40it just needs tweaking a little bit.
- 1:03:43And I think if you start
- 1:03:45having all of these leagues
- 1:03:46that are way different,
- 1:03:48you're almost ruining what
- 1:03:49we have and ruining our own sport.
- 1:03:53There's not going to be all these leagues.
- 1:03:55There's not enough money in
- 1:03:57the ecosystem to have all these leagues.
- 1:04:00There may be a league that
- 1:04:03tries to go up against it.
- 1:04:04But again,
- 1:04:05CrossFit has history on its side.
- 1:04:08But let's...
- 1:04:10hopefully it makes them
- 1:04:12become more innovative to compete.
- 1:04:15That's my only hope.
- 1:04:18Well, if I'm curious, is,
- 1:04:22is Will's thing waiting for
- 1:04:25CrossFit announcement or vice versa?
- 1:04:28Cause I feel like whoever
- 1:04:31gets their information out
- 1:04:32first has a better shot at this.
- 1:04:37I don't think he necessarily
- 1:04:38wants to compete against CrossFit.
- 1:04:40If you look at his interview,
- 1:04:43he's still up in the air as
- 1:04:44to whether it was something
- 1:04:45that could run parallel and not compete.
- 1:04:49Just an alternate season of
- 1:04:51another way to make money
- 1:04:52and sustain yourself.
- 1:04:54How bad do you think the
- 1:04:59Open is going to take a hit this year?
- 1:05:05it's going to take a hit
- 1:05:06because of the association
- 1:05:10of a death at the CrossFit Games.
- 1:05:13Ten percent?
- 1:05:14Twenty percent?
- 1:05:15What's your thoughts?
- 1:05:17And they did say that the
- 1:05:18Open would stay the same price, too.
- 1:05:22I don't think it's going to
- 1:05:23be as big as you think.
- 1:05:30You think it's going to lose
- 1:05:31one hundred and fifty thousand?
- 1:05:34Patrick?
- 1:05:38I think, yeah.
- 1:05:39Yeah, that's a little overzealous.
- 1:05:44I think there are some
- 1:05:50people that are going to join because,
- 1:05:53and this sounds demented,
- 1:05:54but this is the way that the world works.
- 1:05:57There's a danger to it now.
- 1:06:00I think going online,
- 1:06:02more people think they have a shot.
- 1:06:04Yeah.
- 1:06:05Yeah,
- 1:06:06we don't even know what it is at this
- 1:06:07point.
- 1:06:07Well, that's the thing.
- 1:06:08We need some details, but yeah.
- 1:06:13So you're saying there's a chance.
- 1:06:17I think that's what happened
- 1:06:17this year at the Masters CrossFit Games.
- 1:06:20I think they thought that
- 1:06:21because it was split off on its own,
- 1:06:23there wouldn't be testing.
- 1:06:24So people said,
- 1:06:26let's juice it up and let's
- 1:06:27see what we can do.
- 1:06:28They just don't test enough there.
- 1:06:31Yeah, they don't test enough.
- 1:06:34Agreed.
- 1:06:35The top five is not enough,
- 1:06:36especially on the male side
- 1:06:39that traditionally take more.
- 1:06:43But I think the three men
- 1:06:44that were busted were good
- 1:06:47and knew with just a little
- 1:06:48help they could be great.
- 1:06:52And they went for it
- 1:06:52thinking they wouldn't test.
- 1:06:55And get their payday.
- 1:06:56Yep.
- 1:07:00Yep.
- 1:07:01Well,
- 1:07:02we're going to finish up with just
- 1:07:03two quick things, and that is, first,
- 1:07:05Hayley Adams did an
- 1:07:06interview with Rory McKernan.
- 1:07:08If you have not seen it, it's really good.
- 1:07:12You can tell Haley and Rory
- 1:07:13have been around together
- 1:07:14for a long time and they
- 1:07:16are very good friends.
- 1:07:17Haley opened up a lot about
- 1:07:18her eating disorder and
- 1:07:21talked about why she had to
- 1:07:22walk away from mayhem for a
- 1:07:23minute and just be a kid
- 1:07:28and travel and do things without guilt.
- 1:07:31It's an exceptional
- 1:07:33interview if you have not seen it.
- 1:07:37Is there any insight to the
- 1:07:39Haley Murillo and Josh Murillo?
- 1:07:42She doesn't say anything
- 1:07:43derogatory or that she just
- 1:07:47had to go do something different.
- 1:07:48And when she came back after
- 1:07:51taking nine months off, like it was bad.
- 1:07:55And that she's glad nobody
- 1:07:57at Mayhem saw her.
- 1:08:00I still think like she
- 1:08:03didn't address like Haley
- 1:08:05and Josh and everything
- 1:08:05that they did for her.
- 1:08:07like they were all in on her.
- 1:08:09So whether she needed her
- 1:08:11little break from mayhem
- 1:08:13and then came back, I think, and I don't,
- 1:08:16and I don't know what happened between,
- 1:08:19you know, that situation,
- 1:08:21but a thank you on air
- 1:08:24would have been nice.
- 1:08:25A appreciate the fact that
- 1:08:27these two took me in and
- 1:08:29had me on my lowest or one
- 1:08:31of my lowest parts and,
- 1:08:33and were there for me and
- 1:08:34cheered me on at semifinals
- 1:08:35and all these people traveled.
- 1:08:36Like, again,
- 1:08:37I don't know what happened
- 1:08:39from an outside.
- 1:08:40I was hoping to hear something for that.
- 1:08:43And then here, and then I wanted, you know,
- 1:08:46I went to Mayhem because
- 1:08:47this is what I knew going to the games.
- 1:08:49And, and I wanted, you know,
- 1:08:51to prepare with, you know,
- 1:08:52these athletes that were
- 1:08:53going to push me a little
- 1:08:54bit more in training.
- 1:08:56Like I would see that part,
- 1:08:58but I wanted to hear during
- 1:09:00the interview that,
- 1:09:01her acknowledge the help
- 1:09:04that she got from Haley and Josh.
- 1:09:11I agree.
- 1:09:12It just didn't come and I
- 1:09:13just feel like there's
- 1:09:14something like missing.
- 1:09:18And I'm not talking about
- 1:09:18the Hiller documentary.
- 1:09:20That's before everything.
- 1:09:22The Hiller documentary was
- 1:09:23when she was all in with those two.
- 1:09:26Right.
- 1:09:26Regardless of what happened,
- 1:09:28they were there for her
- 1:09:30At that point,
- 1:09:31and I think that I wanted to hear that.
- 1:09:35Yeah.
- 1:09:37Your sentiment, Scott,
- 1:09:39do you remember this,
- 1:09:40is exactly my sentiment
- 1:09:42when Haley did Hiller's
- 1:09:44video and I felt like she
- 1:09:45didn't acknowledge Tasia.
- 1:09:48Do you remember how I felt about that?
- 1:09:51So it seems to be a pattern
- 1:09:54that Haley... And then she
- 1:09:56didn't acknowledge Tasia in this video.
- 1:10:00Yeah,
- 1:10:01she did mention a little bit of Tasia.
- 1:10:03But yeah,
- 1:10:03Tasia is someone who was such a
- 1:10:05big role player for her
- 1:10:07over the years and knew a
- 1:10:09lot of what was happening
- 1:10:10with Haley and tried to mentor her.
- 1:10:12Yeah, it could be a pattern.
- 1:10:18We don't even know if Haley
- 1:10:19and Josh wanted to be
- 1:10:21full-time coaches for Haley.
- 1:10:24They were all in.
- 1:10:25They were all in.
- 1:10:27Like there's no way that you just,
- 1:10:30you move your life and you
- 1:10:32go towards that.
- 1:10:33Like, there's no way Scott, like that.
- 1:10:34They're like, Oh,
- 1:10:35you made it to the games.
- 1:10:36Our job is done.
- 1:10:37No.
- 1:10:38If you listen to their interview,
- 1:10:39like they were ready to, you know,
- 1:10:42do anything to support her.
- 1:10:45And she went right back to mayhem,
- 1:10:48which is fine.
- 1:10:50It's fine.
- 1:10:51Like, you know,
- 1:10:52she's got her training
- 1:10:53partner said that she loves Luke and,
- 1:10:56You know,
- 1:10:56they have a ton of people
- 1:10:57training for the games and
- 1:10:58it's what she knows.
- 1:10:59And it's, you know,
- 1:11:00she went back to what she knew.
- 1:11:03But there's no way that they
- 1:11:04wouldn't have wanted to
- 1:11:05continue their journey
- 1:11:07together to the games.
- 1:11:10It's definitely a
- 1:11:10conversation worth
- 1:11:11exploring if they're willing to talk.
- 1:11:16Yeah.
- 1:11:17I mean,
- 1:11:17I've talked to Haley and Josh a ton.
- 1:11:20I'm not against reaching out.
- 1:11:24And I'm sure,
- 1:11:25I'm sure there's no hard feelings,
- 1:11:26but I just think a thank
- 1:11:27you in the interview.
- 1:11:29Like I was just,
- 1:11:29I was just hoping for
- 1:11:30something like that.
- 1:11:30I agree.
- 1:11:31Just like, like Ken said,
- 1:11:33just a shout out would have
- 1:11:34been great just to talk
- 1:11:36about that part and what
- 1:11:38they meant to her and her training.
- 1:11:40But maybe, maybe, um,
- 1:11:44road didn't want to go that direction.
- 1:11:50And maybe they talked prior
- 1:11:51about not talking about that part.
- 1:11:52I don't know.
- 1:11:54But just a shout out would have been nice.
- 1:11:58Yeah.
- 1:11:58A little flashback to the open talk.
- 1:12:00Mike Halpin brings up a good point.
- 1:12:02Twenty twenty five is also
- 1:12:03the first year affiliates
- 1:12:04are paying forty five hundred dollars.
- 1:12:06I'd be curious if more
- 1:12:07affiliates take the open
- 1:12:09in-house and the twenty
- 1:12:10dollars goes to them versus HQ.
- 1:12:14I know my former affiliate
- 1:12:17was doing this five or six years ago.
- 1:12:20They gave you two options.
- 1:12:22You could pay twenty dollars to them.
- 1:12:25Everybody who did it
- 1:12:25in-house had to pay twenty
- 1:12:26dollars to them.
- 1:12:27You got a shirt and you got
- 1:12:28assigned a team.
- 1:12:29Yeah.
- 1:12:30Then you could pay another
- 1:12:31twenty dollars to do the HQ version.
- 1:12:34And I would bet three
- 1:12:36quarters of the members did
- 1:12:37not do the HQ.
- 1:12:40Piece of it.
- 1:12:44I still think that there's
- 1:12:45something about going on a
- 1:12:46leaderboard and then seeing
- 1:12:47your name year after year
- 1:12:49versus your in-house, but it's like.
- 1:12:53But I understand the people
- 1:12:54that do it and want to
- 1:12:55support the gym and all that.
- 1:12:56People like us would do the
- 1:12:57HQ version because we want
- 1:12:59to see if we improve year over year.
- 1:13:01Yeah.
- 1:13:01There were people in this
- 1:13:02affiliate that didn't even
- 1:13:04know there was a sport, right?
- 1:13:06Yeah,
- 1:13:06like the people that you're trying to
- 1:13:08get to do the open and they're like,
- 1:13:10what's the open?
- 1:13:10You're like, we're signing you up.
- 1:13:12They don't care.
- 1:13:13They'll give the twenty bucks to anyone.
- 1:13:15But for the people that
- 1:13:16actually know what the open
- 1:13:18is and to test your fitness
- 1:13:19and to see your
- 1:13:19improvements year after year,
- 1:13:21you can compare a bunch of things.
- 1:13:24The leaderboard is nice to
- 1:13:25see that progression or
- 1:13:26that regression year to year.
- 1:13:31My former affiliate was,
- 1:13:34which I still have a good
- 1:13:34relationship with, they are very diverse.
- 1:13:38There's people from every
- 1:13:39walk of life around the world.
- 1:13:41And there are people that
- 1:13:43don't even know anything
- 1:13:45about CrossFit HQ.
- 1:13:47They don't even know there
- 1:13:47is a website that you can go fill out.
- 1:13:50Like, they didn't care.
- 1:13:50They just wanted to have fun
- 1:13:51with their friends and be
- 1:13:53on the green team and see
- 1:13:55who did best in these three weeks.
- 1:14:01Yep.
- 1:14:02Yeah, I mean,
- 1:14:02the community part of the
- 1:14:03Open has always been amazing and fun,
- 1:14:07depending if you have that at your gym.
- 1:14:09But, yeah, it's fun.
- 1:14:11That's how eighty,
- 1:14:13ninety percent of my gym is.
- 1:14:14They don't comprehend it
- 1:14:17other than the fact that
- 1:14:18Jim and I have both been there now.
- 1:14:22So they realize that there's
- 1:14:23something that one or two
- 1:14:26of us are competing for,
- 1:14:27but that like beyond that,
- 1:14:29they don't understand the season at all.
- 1:14:34And then the last piece of
- 1:14:35news is an organization we
- 1:14:38support wholeheartedly on
- 1:14:40this channel is Uplift.
- 1:14:43Mark Moss is an amazing dude.
- 1:14:45We love that guy.
- 1:14:47They have a November challenge,
- 1:14:49which is due... When is that, Jamie?
- 1:14:52The second.
- 1:14:56Can you say that again?
- 1:14:56You cut out for me.
- 1:14:58The twenty-second.
- 1:14:59Okay.
- 1:15:01The November challenge...
- 1:15:03is double grace right double
- 1:15:07grace it's like an interval
- 1:15:11style you have to get to
- 1:15:12the sixty reps um so yeah
- 1:15:17not really send them the
- 1:15:18video work one minute rest
- 1:15:20one minute yep man I've
- 1:15:22never done it that way I
- 1:15:24know interesting right
- 1:15:27um yeah who programs these
- 1:15:30oh it's always someone
- 1:15:31different I think it's um
- 1:15:32sentinel I think taylor was
- 1:15:34uh partnered with this one
- 1:15:35um but they get someone
- 1:15:36every month yeah it's a
- 1:15:38different different group
- 1:15:39every month I think is that
- 1:15:41the same weekend as reps
- 1:15:42ahead yeah but you have all
- 1:15:45months to do it oh you have
- 1:15:46all month to do it right
- 1:15:48you just have to turn it in
- 1:15:49on the twenty sec by the
- 1:15:51twenty second got it yep
- 1:15:55have you ever done double grace
- 1:15:58No.
- 1:16:01I did it with my nephew.
- 1:16:04And somehow he fooled me
- 1:16:07into thinking we were just doing Grace.
- 1:16:09So I went like all out sprint.
- 1:16:10Oh, no.
- 1:16:11And then he goes, no, we're doing double.
- 1:16:13Kind of like the ranch run.
- 1:16:15Yeah.
- 1:16:15Mm-hmm.
- 1:16:17Right.
- 1:16:17It turned around.
- 1:16:18You got to do it again.
- 1:16:20And I was just hanging on for dear life.
- 1:16:22And I think I was right at
- 1:16:24like eight minutes because the second,
- 1:16:27the second thirty were just brutal.
- 1:16:30Yeah.
- 1:16:31I don't think I've done double grace.
- 1:16:33I've done heavy grace.
- 1:16:34I've done double DT because
- 1:16:36that was program at the games in,
- 1:16:38I don't know, twenty fifteen,
- 1:16:39twenty sixteen, somewhere about there.
- 1:16:41So I did that,
- 1:16:43but I don't think I've ever
- 1:16:44done double grace.
- 1:16:45I've done double grace,
- 1:16:46like with Lex going like
- 1:16:48maybe back and forth or we
- 1:16:49just had like sixty,
- 1:16:51but not not on the spot.
- 1:16:53Yeah,
- 1:16:53my friend and I did that where we
- 1:16:54just singled it back and forth.
- 1:16:57Yeah.
- 1:16:59And you can,
- 1:16:59you can fly pretty fast
- 1:17:00through double grace then.
- 1:17:02Um,
- 1:17:03it's almost like an average single
- 1:17:07grace time, but that,
- 1:17:13but that's pretty fun.
- 1:17:14I like doing that double
- 1:17:15grace as a partner.
- 1:17:21But if you want to do that,
- 1:17:22it's a fun one for this month.
- 1:17:25All barbell.
- 1:17:26Usually it's a lot of burpees.
- 1:17:27I know.
- 1:17:28I usually like them.
- 1:17:30I know.
- 1:17:30I'm not digging this one as much,
- 1:17:32but all right.
- 1:17:34I like to do them,
- 1:17:35so I'll try to get it done.
- 1:17:37And then one call out before
- 1:17:39we leave tonight.
- 1:17:40Carolyn still hasn't done
- 1:17:41her death by burpees.
- 1:17:44No,
- 1:17:44I did my rogue burpee challenge last
- 1:17:46weekend.
- 1:17:47And then...
- 1:17:48Wisconsin Badgers let her
- 1:17:50down two weeks ago.
- 1:17:51The only win any of my teams
- 1:17:52have had in two weeks.
- 1:17:55Yeah, mine has been sucking.
- 1:17:59This guy hasn't done well
- 1:17:59the last two weeks.
- 1:18:03I will get to it eventually.
- 1:18:05I know Carolyn's got to
- 1:18:06grade some papers and
- 1:18:07create a test before tomorrow.
- 1:18:09I've done grading my papers.
- 1:18:10I've got to
- 1:18:12create a math test right now
- 1:18:14for tomorrow morning.
- 1:18:14And it's, you know,
- 1:18:18it's nine thirty at night on a Sunday.
- 1:18:22I told her this is like what
- 1:18:23the high school student I
- 1:18:24was nine thirty at night on
- 1:18:25a Sunday doing my homework.
- 1:18:28I got a fifteen page paper.
- 1:18:31I was so like I was
- 1:18:33preparing like doing laundry,
- 1:18:35making sure everything was
- 1:18:36ready for like Scotland.
- 1:18:37I don't even have anything
- 1:18:38packed for that.
- 1:18:39So I don't even know why I'm
- 1:18:39saying everything was ready.
- 1:18:41But finishing my laundry,
- 1:18:43like organizing what I'm
- 1:18:44leaving for my math classes
- 1:18:46and stuff when I'm gone and
- 1:18:48it's just it took almost
- 1:18:49the whole day and even
- 1:18:51yesterday as well I was
- 1:18:52writing report card
- 1:18:53comments all yesterday and
- 1:18:55then all of a sudden I was
- 1:18:56like oh my gosh it's seven
- 1:18:57fifty five I gotta start I
- 1:18:59gotta get on the air here
- 1:19:01and then I realized I had a
- 1:19:02math test to do so with
- 1:19:06that don't forget to like subscribe
- 1:19:08Hit that notification to
- 1:19:09first know when new stuff comes out.

- 1:19:21But I'm really glad I've
- 1:19:22only got two more weeks of
- 1:19:23editing to do to finish this up.
- 1:19:27And then more of the full
- 1:19:28eleven episode feature out there.
- 1:19:36I have no idea what that says.
- 1:19:38He said I gotta read Bullying Haley.
- 1:19:41Oh.
- 1:19:42Not bullying anybody.
- 1:19:44No, it was a great interview.
- 1:19:46I was just saying I wanted
- 1:19:47her to shout out my friends.
- 1:19:51And I don't even know what happened.
- 1:19:52I'm just saying.
- 1:19:53That's all I wanted.
- 1:19:54It's a good interview.
- 1:19:58I like him.
- 1:19:59Yeah, it was a great interview.
- 1:20:01Rory did a great job,
- 1:20:03and he said he teased it with, hey,
- 1:20:04we're just touching the surface,
- 1:20:06so make sure you come back
- 1:20:07and see the next one,
