- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, what's up, y'all. I'm Maddie from the band Memphis
- 0:02Speaker 1: May Fire. We're gonna be coming to Australia in July
- 0:05Speaker 1: with our friends and a tray you and tickets around sale.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Now come hang out.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Fantastic MANNEI thanks for joining us today.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Oh Rose Brosos.
- 0:15Speaker 4: You say in Memphis May Fire hit Australia next year
- 0:18Speaker 4: for run of them shows with that tray Who's starting
- 0:20Speaker 4: in Brisbane on July the night, then hitting Sydney, Melbourne
- 0:23Speaker 4: and Adelaide and finishing in Perth on July fifteenth. It's
- 0:26Speaker 4: a long way off, bro, So you still get excited
- 0:29Speaker 4: for tools like that this far out or do you
- 0:30Speaker 4: sort of wait till it gets to be closer.
- 0:34Speaker 1: The excitement definitely sets in nice and earlier. We're very
- 0:37Speaker 1: much eager to get there. The reality of it all
- 0:41Speaker 1: will hit a little closer to that time frame, the
- 0:44Speaker 1: how long the flight is and things like that.
- 0:48Speaker 4: And yourselves that at trat like, I couldn't think of
- 0:51Speaker 4: a better double team and to hit the country.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, we're excited.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Man. We've done a co headliner tour here in the
- 0:57Speaker 1: States as well, and so to bring that to Australia
- 0:59Speaker 1: seems seems like the right fit.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I wanted to say, co headliner, Brady, you may look
- 1:04Speaker 4: give all tonight who finishes every night?
- 1:06Speaker 3: Or does it just mean you got the same same
- 1:08Speaker 3: like sets?
- 1:09Speaker 2: It can mean that.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean there's a handful of different ways to do
- 1:13Speaker 1: co headliners, but in our instance, uh, you know, we
- 1:17Speaker 1: are both going to be playing the same amount of
- 1:20Speaker 1: time each night.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And it's just you know, like the billing is equal
- 1:24Speaker 2: on everything.
- 1:27Speaker 4: And by the time we get you, bro, it's gonna
- 1:29Speaker 4: be ten years since you're in Istralia lost because you're
- 1:32Speaker 4: here with Park White draw in twenty fifteen. So what's
- 1:35Speaker 4: changed with Memphis might far in that decade?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Everything?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Oh man, We've put out a lot of music and
- 1:46Speaker 1: have had so much just experience, life experience and band experience,
- 1:51Speaker 1: you know, And so we.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Bring all of that in our live show.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We're gonna bring new music, we're gonna bring old music,
- 1:56Speaker 1: We're gonna bring it all and uh, and I guess
- 1:59Speaker 1: you know, show our Aussie fans what what a ten
- 2:02Speaker 1: year break can do.
- 2:05Speaker 4: And you guys use the known fear of electric live performances, mate,
- 2:09Speaker 4: So how much practice and planning goes into them. The
- 2:13Speaker 4: more spontaneous and you just got a rough guideline or
- 2:15Speaker 4: do you do you plan them out completely?
- 2:18Speaker 2: It's definitely not spontaneous.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You know, we have a lot of preparation that goes
- 2:23Speaker 1: into our live show, you know, from lighting, special effects
- 2:28Speaker 1: or anything. And obviously just like time that we take
- 2:32Speaker 1: to determine what songs we're gonna play, and that goes
- 2:34Speaker 1: into rehearsals and you know, all of it.
- 2:36Speaker 2: All the above is it can be time consuming.
- 2:39Speaker 4: So wrought us through a typical Memphis May Fire live show,
- 2:43Speaker 4: then if there is such a.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Man, you know, we trust.
- 2:47Speaker 1: We obviously bring the same level of energy every night
- 2:50Speaker 1: no matter where we are.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know, that's that's a big part of it. You know,
- 2:53Speaker 2: the energy that we bring.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Is is a special part of the show to us,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and you know, we want to give something for everybody.
- 3:01Speaker 1: You know, there's gonna be songs for our fans that
- 3:03Speaker 1: have been with us for a long time, There's gonna
- 3:05Speaker 1: be songs for people that just discovered us. And you know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: I think that it kind of feels like a roller
- 3:11Speaker 1: coaster from start to finish. You know, the the actual
- 3:14Speaker 1: show itself is going to be an experience rather than
- 3:17Speaker 1: just a concert.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So we look forward to making it special.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Yeah, you've done a lot of shows in your time, bro,
- 3:24Speaker 4: but have you ever had a night where you're just
- 3:26Speaker 4: not feeling it, you know, and you can't really get
- 3:28Speaker 4: into it?
- 3:28Speaker 3: Like, and if you have, how did you turn that
- 3:30Speaker 3: around to still put on a good show?
- 3:34Speaker 1: It's kind of It can be tricky, for sure, but
- 3:38Speaker 1: you know, every artist, it doesn't matter who you are,
- 3:41Speaker 1: has things that are going on just in regular life
- 3:44Speaker 1: that can make certain moments less enjoyable, you know, And
- 3:47Speaker 1: at the end of the day, you shift your mindset
- 3:50Speaker 1: to the fact that, like, there are people in this
- 3:52Speaker 1: room that don't know what it is that you're going through,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and they came to see a show, and it is
- 3:57Speaker 1: our job to put on a show, you know, And
- 3:59Speaker 1: so you you shift the mindset of you know, I'm
- 4:03Speaker 1: going to whatever it is that I'm dealing with personally,
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave it at the door, and I'm for
- 4:06Speaker 1: the next hour, my attention solely belongs to this crowd
- 4:10Speaker 1: and what they paid to see. And it's you know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's easier said than done, but we we do.
- 4:15Speaker 2: We get the job done. No matter what.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Now, by the time you get him, you would have
- 4:20Speaker 4: released your eight studio album, Shape Shifter, which comes down
- 4:23Speaker 4: on March of twenty eight.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So how much of a focus is there gonna be
- 4:26Speaker 3: on that? On the Troy You're gonna be faining a
- 4:27Speaker 3: little bit.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I hope, so, you know, I we always love to
- 4:32Speaker 1: be pushing new material, and it is our personal opinion
- 4:35Speaker 1: that our new so songs are are the best of
- 4:38Speaker 1: our whole catalog, and so.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I would love to see that.
- 4:42Speaker 1: At the same time, we'll be mindful of the fact
- 4:43Speaker 1: that it's been ten years since we've been there and
- 4:46Speaker 1: we got to bring back some of the classics for
- 4:48Speaker 1: people who haven't seen us in that long as well.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so far.
- 4:52Speaker 4: You've released the title track of that album, mates, absolutely
- 4:55Speaker 4: bang it bright. But is that a good selic representation
- 4:57Speaker 4: of what to expect from the whole album?
- 5:00Speaker 1: You know, we've put out five singles so far, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: I think that they're all pretty wildly different, and so
- 5:06Speaker 1: I would say how different each song has been is
- 5:10Speaker 1: the best representation of what the album is going to
- 5:13Speaker 1: be like as a whole. You know, it's very much
- 5:16Speaker 1: an album of variety, which was intentional. You know, we
- 5:20Speaker 1: wanted to we didn't want to write the same same
- 5:22Speaker 1: song over and over again, and we wanted to bring
- 5:26Speaker 1: every aspect of Memphis May Fire to the table rather
- 5:29Speaker 1: than just focusing on one thing.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So yeah, it's definitely got a lot of variety to it.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I just suppose that that's one thing that would be
- 5:36Speaker 4: hard with a band like yourself who've had so much success,
- 5:39Speaker 4: like when you write albums like you've had success with
- 5:41Speaker 4: so many different styles of songs. So it'd be hard
- 5:44Speaker 4: to sort of try and cover all of that in
- 5:46Speaker 4: one album, wouldn't it.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's difficult.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But at the same time, I think that you pair
- 5:52Speaker 1: that with anything that is inspiring you currently and it
- 5:55Speaker 1: kind of makes for you know, a body of work
- 5:59Speaker 1: that feels special. And so I think start to finish
- 6:02Speaker 1: the album is something exciting. There's not a single song that's,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you know, that I would consider like a skipper.
- 6:09Speaker 2: It's just through and through.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I think that it tells a story and I think that,
- 6:14Speaker 1: like I said, it's got something for everybody.
- 6:16Speaker 4: So, hey, collaborations seem to be the order of the
- 6:19Speaker 4: day on albums these days.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Is it going to be any any collaborations on this one.
- 6:23Speaker 1: There is one very very special collaboration, the very last
- 6:31Speaker 1: check off of my dream checklist of guest vocalists, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: it is going to be so awesome.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I can't say who it is, but you'll you'll see.
- 6:41Speaker 3: All.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I guess, Like we were talking before about the diversity,
- 6:45Speaker 4: but in your music, Like, how does the new material,
- 6:48Speaker 4: I guess give to the early stuff from your two
- 6:51Speaker 4: thousand and nine debut Sleepwalking.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Oh man, I mean, there's so much life that's lived
- 6:58Speaker 1: between those albums, you know, and there's so so many
- 7:00Speaker 1: things that we've experienced that we've learned, how we've grown,
- 7:03Speaker 1: how we've adapted, how we've changed, all of it kind
- 7:08Speaker 1: of has shown and I think that you know, like
- 7:11Speaker 1: it in the most simple way I can put it,
- 7:14Speaker 1: is that we're a much better band now, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and and we've we have a lot more to bring
- 7:19Speaker 1: to the table, a lot more experience and knowledge, and uh,
- 7:23Speaker 1: just it it showcases that and that's the goal, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I think for any band as they progress.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I've had with that journey and as you've progressed, Brogl, Like,
- 7:31Speaker 4: what are some of the things that you've learned about yourself?
- 7:34Speaker 3: And about your music in that period.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Man, I would say that the thing that I consistently
- 7:43Speaker 1: learn the older I get, the more I learn, the
- 7:47Speaker 1: more I realize that I know nothing.
- 7:51Speaker 2: You know, I uh.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I think that life is not linear in terms of
- 8:01Speaker 1: growth and experience. I think it is far more like,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you know, two steps forward and one step back, to
- 8:08Speaker 1: always be learning and discovering truly like who you are,
- 8:14Speaker 1: which is also just ever changing. And so.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Life is a mystery.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Man.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It's beautiful, it's miserable.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's exciting, it's painful, it's all of it, and we
- 8:28Speaker 1: just try to represent all of that in our music.
- 8:30Speaker 4: So right, so now before you go, mate, we've got
- 8:34Speaker 4: a new segment called photo Bombs. So basically, I troll
- 8:37Speaker 4: through your social media and I come up with some
- 8:40Speaker 4: photos in.
- 8:40Speaker 3: A band, and I want to know a bit more
- 8:42Speaker 3: about Okay, that's what I got for you. It's fun.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Oh man.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that was a fourth of July picture
- 8:55Speaker 1: that we put on our socials, and I believe that
- 8:58Speaker 1: was right after I had disc overed this face swapping
- 9:02Speaker 1: app And what what an absolute gift that that photo is?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh yeah, you cool?
- 9:13Speaker 4: And the other one is just made like I'm hoping
- 9:15Speaker 4: by now you guys can afford our bitter bitter dressing rooms.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so that is from that's a still from our
- 9:25Speaker 1: music video for the song Somebody and uh. It was
- 9:29Speaker 1: this beaten up old building in downtown Nashville, Tennessee that
- 9:34Speaker 1: was used specifically as a set for filming things like this,
- 9:39Speaker 1: so it's not even a real location.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Made all right, well.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Before you do, finally made any messages for austral And
- 9:48Speaker 4: fans just far out from mature.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been a long time since we've been there,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and we apologize for that, but we love y'all. We
- 9:54Speaker 1: cannot wait to get back to hear all of your
- 9:57Speaker 1: beautiful accents and uh, to try all of your amazing food,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and to just give you the absolute best show possible.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And we can't wait to see all of your faces
- 10:06Speaker 1: in the crowd.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Thanks very much, Money, you've been a pleasant speaker with
- 10:09Speaker 4: your brother. I'll see you at the Brizzie Show next year.
- 10:11Speaker 4: But and you'll then take care
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah likewise, man, thanks for having me
