- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Thursday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:06Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal here with my friend Alana Rizzo. And Alana
- 0:09Speaker 1: we always have a lot of cool things to talk about,
- 0:12Speaker 1: but today we have specifically some cool pitching things to discuss.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Ken great to be with you on this Thursday, and
- 0:20Speaker 2: you know what we're going to talk about some aces
- 0:22Speaker 2: not named sho hey Otani. Although it warrants a little
- 0:25Speaker 2: bit of a conversation six hit listenings. Yesterday he had
- 0:29Speaker 2: a leadoff home run, so already giving himself some run support.
- 0:32Speaker 2: He did have a season high four walks, he hit
- 0:34Speaker 2: a batter, and his era ken ballooned from zero point
- 0:38Speaker 2: seventy three to point eight to two. Show hey Otani
- 0:40Speaker 2: is an ace among aces. But there's some other guys
- 0:43Speaker 2: that deserve some recognition as well.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Let's start with Garrett Cole. We're leading up to the
- 0:48Speaker 1: Grand Ace right now. But Garrett Cole coming off Tommy
- 0:52Speaker 1: John surgery. Now he missed more than a year and
- 0:54Speaker 1: a half, took the longer side of the recovery process,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and yet he has come back, not yet, but he
- 1:01Speaker 1: has come back in a way that it's surprising to
- 1:05Speaker 1: a lot of people in the game. He has been
- 1:07Speaker 1: absolutely brilliant. And last night ten strikeouts and here's the
- 1:11Speaker 1: key thing, no walks in seven innings against the Kansas
- 1:15Speaker 1: City Royals. Now, I know the Royals are offensively challenged,
- 1:18Speaker 1: but Cole was nearly as good in his first start.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And the command, which is usually the last to come
- 1:24Speaker 1: after Tommy John surgery. You'll get your velocity back, but
- 1:27Speaker 1: the command is generally not there. No walks and three
- 1:30Speaker 1: walks and twelve and a third inning so far total,
- 1:33Speaker 1: that is truly impressive. And with Cole, obviously, if he's
- 1:39Speaker 1: going to be this guy, and certainly there's no reason
- 1:41Speaker 1: to believe he's going to go backwards because guys generally
- 1:43Speaker 1: get stronger as they come back from Tommy John. Wow,
- 1:47Speaker 1: the Yankees get freed back. They've got Cam Schlitzer, They've
- 1:50Speaker 1: got something special going. But as I mentioned, there's a
- 1:54Speaker 1: guy pitching at a level right now that is beyond
- 1:57Speaker 1: anyone in Major League Baseball. Of course, I'm talking about
- 2:01Speaker 1: the Phillies Christopher Sanchez. His streak of consecutive innings right
- 2:06Speaker 1: now is right up there. It is forty four and
- 2:09Speaker 1: two thirds. And you can look at something Jason Stark
- 2:12Speaker 1: tweeted yesterday to really put this into context. All right,
- 2:15Speaker 1: longest scoreless inning streaks by a left hander since nineteen hundred. Now,
- 2:19Speaker 1: keep in mind it's more difficult to do as a
- 2:22Speaker 1: left hander because you're facing more right handed hitters. There
- 2:25Speaker 1: are more righties and lefties in this world, all right.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Carl Hubble forty five and a third innings in nineteen
- 2:32Speaker 1: thirty three, Doc White, whoever he is, forty five innings
- 2:36Speaker 1: in nineteen oh four, and Sanchez right on their heels,
- 2:39Speaker 1: can pass them in his next start with one scoreless
- 2:41Speaker 1: inning forty four and two thirds. As of now, he
- 2:45Speaker 1: is seventh all time as far as consecutive scoreless inning streaks.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Oral Herscheiser, of course, is first with fifty nine, but
- 2:52Speaker 1: Sanchez in his next start can move as high as
- 2:56Speaker 1: third place. So it has been an astonishing run. And
- 3:00Speaker 1: what is so interesting is we have right now in
- 3:04Speaker 1: the National League Jacob Misearowski pitching at an incredible level Otani,
- 3:08Speaker 1: as you mentioned, Alana, And of course we have Paul
- 3:12Speaker 1: Skeens not quite there. We have Chris Sale, all these
- 3:15Speaker 1: great pitchers, and yet Sanchez right now stands alone above
- 3:20Speaker 1: all of them. And let's not forget Kyle Harrison in
- 3:23Speaker 1: Milwaukee as well. So that nlsa young race that's going
- 3:27Speaker 1: to heat up, and that will evolve over time. But
- 3:29Speaker 1: right now, with the All Star Game in Philadelphia, if
- 3:32Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez keeps this up, he has to be the guy.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Oh, no question about it. Chris Sale throws today for
- 3:39Speaker 2: the Atlanta Braves against the Boston Red Solacks. Having another
- 3:42Speaker 2: decent year. All right, let's talk about the Chicago Cubs.
- 3:44Speaker 2: They finally win Ken after their slide, their four and
- 3:47Speaker 2: a half games back of Milwaukee. What do you make
- 3:51Speaker 2: of what's happened with them? Obviously they we have on
- 3:53Speaker 2: such a tear and then things went south when PCA
- 3:56Speaker 2: went a little south.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I don't know quite what to make of a team
- 3:59Speaker 1: that is already had two ten game winning streaks and
- 4:02Speaker 1: one ten game losing streak. Clearly, they've had some pitching
- 4:07Speaker 1: injuries and that's been part of this. And I'm talking
- 4:09Speaker 1: of course about Boyd Cabrera, Horton and Steel. That's a
- 4:14Speaker 1: huge amount of pitching to lose. But as I mentioned
- 4:17Speaker 1: this I believe on our Monday show and was jumped
- 4:19Speaker 1: on by a Cubs fan, the offense has been the
- 4:22Speaker 1: bigger problem. And during that ten game losing streak, really
- 4:26Speaker 1: Michael Bush of their regulars was the only one hitting
- 4:29Speaker 1: at a high level. Everyone else was not good at all.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And in fact, Ian Hap and Seya Suzuki their ops
- 4:37Speaker 1: is during the ten game losing streak they were two
- 4:40Speaker 1: seventy six. Now that's an okay batting average, not such
- 4:44Speaker 1: a good ops And we're flashing on the screen right
- 4:46Speaker 1: now those ops is during the losing streak. Gregman seven fourteen,
- 4:51Speaker 1: PCA six ninety six. Horner, who started off so hot,
- 4:54Speaker 1: was five point forty eight. Swanson four to sixty six.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Not good, not good at all. But I would think
- 5:01Speaker 1: now that the Cubs finally have one one, they'll get
- 5:04Speaker 1: back to a more, I don't know, stable pace. We'll
- 5:08Speaker 1: see if they can catch Milwaukee. Four and a half
- 5:11Speaker 1: games at this time of year is not much at all. Clearly,
- 5:14Speaker 1: they've got to get their pitching healthy, though, and that's
- 5:16Speaker 1: going to be a big question for them and will
- 5:18Speaker 1: be leading into the deadline when they would be a
- 5:21Speaker 1: team I would expect in search of starting pitching.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And you can see Ken on the broadcast on Fox.
- 5:28Speaker 2: He has Cubs at Cardinals this Saturday. Catch him on that.
- 5:31Speaker 3: It's getting hot out there, people. Let's talk mack Weldon
- 5:34Speaker 3: Fashion Show real quick. AJ's got the Pima crew neck
- 5:38Speaker 3: t shirt, Froth Heather.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Frost Heather's. It's got little pieces of gray heather in there.
- 5:43Speaker 4: It's nice, it's soft, it fits really well. It's great
- 5:47Speaker 4: for summer down here in Florida. And I got a
- 5:49Speaker 4: couple of linen shirts and linen pants that are gonna
- 5:52Speaker 4: look nice when I go to Europe here in a
- 5:53Speaker 4: couple of weeks. Very nice.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very smooth, very thin. I'm wearing the eighteen
- 5:59Speaker 3: hour Jersey short gray. I'll leave that down here for you.
- 6:02Speaker 3: And the Pima short sleeve Henley. The color on mine
- 6:05Speaker 3: is desert spring, but it really resonates it. It fits
- 6:10Speaker 3: in kind of matches with everything in the wardrobe too.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It's the classic look. They know what they're doing here,
- 6:16Speaker 3: so check it out. We've got the code for you
- 6:18Speaker 3: to get moving with Mack Weldon Comfortable Anywhere. Go to
- 6:21Speaker 3: mack Weldon dot com get twenty percent off your first
- 6:23Speaker 3: order of one hundred and twenty five bucks or more
- 6:25Speaker 3: with promo code foul. That's m ack w E l
- 6:29Speaker 3: D o n dot Com code foul the Diamondbacks.
- 6:33Speaker 2: The other day, Ken I was talking on Dodgers Territory
- 6:35Speaker 2: with Clympsius and Katie Woo about the fact that the
- 6:38Speaker 2: NL West is a two horse race. It was the
- 6:40Speaker 2: Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, and I
- 6:43Speaker 2: too got jumped on by Diamondbacks fans. It said, hey, hey, hey,
- 6:47Speaker 2: slow down, it is a three horse race. The Diamondbacks.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Ken are feasting on lesser opponents. That's what they need
- 6:53Speaker 2: to do.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They are and they just completed a thirteen game stretch
- 6:57Speaker 1: against the two worst teams in the National League, the
- 7:00Speaker 1: San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies, and they did
- 7:03Speaker 1: what they had to do. They went eleven and two
- 7:06Speaker 1: against those teams. And you see the standings right there
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the NL West. So they're in second place in
- 7:11Speaker 1: the NLS, four and a half games behind the Dodgers
- 7:14Speaker 1: first place in the wild card standings. Now their schedule
- 7:18Speaker 1: is going to get more difficult. They've got Seattle in
- 7:21Speaker 1: Seattle for three than LA at home for four, the
- 7:24Speaker 1: LA Dodgers, not the Angels. But this is an interesting
- 7:28Speaker 1: team and now Martell is hot. Carol is hot, Perdomo
- 7:32Speaker 1: is still not really there. They've gotten nice contributions, especially
- 7:35Speaker 1: from the rookie Ryan Walshmant and now from another rookie,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Tommy Troy. These guys have come up in the wake
- 7:41Speaker 1: of injuries and of course the designation for assignment of
- 7:45Speaker 1: their previous center fielder. But at the same time, they're
- 7:49Speaker 1: an interesting team because they do have some pitching coming
- 7:52Speaker 1: back as well, Rubin Burns at some point, perhaps around
- 7:56Speaker 1: the All Star break, two relievers Aj Puck Justin Tinez.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So this is a team that, on paper at least
- 8:04Speaker 1: could get stronger. And I don't know that I would
- 8:07Speaker 1: consider them a threat to the Dodgers, but could they
- 8:10Speaker 1: be a playoff team? Absolutely the Diamondbacks.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Can time now for Girl and Ken. Our first question
- 8:21Speaker 2: comes from Sarah Harmon nineteen seventy four in regards to
- 8:24Speaker 2: the San Francisco Giants, one of the two teams that
- 8:26Speaker 2: you mentioned, Ken was the worst in the National League.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Andrew Baggerley of the Athletic your colleague as well, hinted
- 8:32Speaker 2: that the Giants could honestly consider releasing quite a few coaches,
- 8:35Speaker 2: including Ector Borg. Do you see this as very likely
- 8:39Speaker 2: a lot of heat on the third base coach for
- 8:41Speaker 2: the Giants.
- 8:42Speaker 1: There's a lot of heat on him. He also helps
- 8:44Speaker 1: Ron Washington with the infielders. He's a guy that Ron
- 8:47Speaker 1: Washington told me he was very high on in spring training.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Now things have changed, obviously, and yes, the Giants could
- 8:54Speaker 1: be looking for scapegoats soon. But if they change the coaches,
- 8:57Speaker 1: it doesn't solve the main problem, which is Devers, Chapman
- 9:01Speaker 1: and a Damas have been huge disappointments. That's where the
- 9:03Speaker 1: team is built around, and that is where the team
- 9:07Speaker 1: has had its most struggles. So you can change coaches.
- 9:11Speaker 1: They probably should change coaches just to shake it up
- 9:14Speaker 1: a little bit. But my goodness, the coaching is not
- 9:17Speaker 1: the problem with the Giants. There are greater issues at hand.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Is that a hitting coach issue? It certainly doesn't seem
- 9:24Speaker 2: like a third base coach issue if they're not hitting. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Can't put it on the hitting coach. Even though they've
- 9:33Speaker 1: gone to a slightly different style this year. It's a
- 9:36Speaker 1: greater emphasis on contact with Hunter Men's coming over from
- 9:39Speaker 1: the Toronto Blue Jays. But Devs, Chapman and Damas, these
- 9:43Speaker 1: guys have long track records. No hitting coach is going
- 9:46Speaker 1: to wreck them, and I just don't buy that at all.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Now a lot of might the hitting coach be scapegoaded, Absolutely,
- 9:54Speaker 1: the hitting coach might be scapegoaded, but it would be
- 9:57Speaker 1: just scapegoating just that, right.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Wicked Better, always a good fan of the program, has
- 10:02Speaker 2: a question for you, Wicked Better fifty four. Which team
- 10:05Speaker 2: do you think has the best chance of making the
- 10:08Speaker 2: postseason this year? Washington Saint Louis or the White Sox,
- 10:11Speaker 2: which I never thought i'd hear that, And which one
- 10:13Speaker 2: will have the most success over the next three to
- 10:15Speaker 2: five years. If you had to guess.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I'm going to say the White Sox had the best
- 10:20Speaker 1: chance of making the postseason, simply because the American League
- 10:23Speaker 1: is that much weaker than the National League, and for
- 10:26Speaker 1: that matter, the American League Central is fairly weak as well.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Though the Guardians, with Bizana doing some things now and
- 10:33Speaker 1: the laughter two rookies, they're getting more interesting by the day.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Messik at the top of the rotation, or at least
- 10:39Speaker 1: near the top of the rotation. So I would still
- 10:42Speaker 1: say the White Sox as far as this year postseason chances,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I don't know that they're great, but I would give
- 10:47Speaker 1: them a shot now. Long term, that's a really interesting question,
- 10:51Speaker 1: and I would go there with the Cardinals only by
- 10:57Speaker 1: a slight hair over the Nationals. And the reason I
- 10:59Speaker 1: say that, I just like what the Cardinals have done,
- 11:03Speaker 1: and they obviously need more pitching to go with their
- 11:05Speaker 1: position player group, which is pretty good now. The National's
- 11:08Speaker 1: position player group also is pretty good, but they're going
- 11:11Speaker 1: to subtract CJ. Abrams is going to be traded, whether
- 11:14Speaker 1: it's at the deadline or the offseason, so I don't
- 11:17Speaker 1: see them necessarily getting better with their offense when they're
- 11:21Speaker 1: going to be doing that, and they have pitching needs
- 11:23Speaker 1: as well, great pitching needs, so I'll go with Saint Louis,
- 11:27Speaker 1: though of course, any of those three could be the
- 11:29Speaker 1: team in the next three to five years that emerges.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Maybe multiple of those teams will ken.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Why do you think the American League is so weak
- 11:38Speaker 2: this year? As I look at the standings. Obviously, right
- 11:40Speaker 2: now the AO wild Card is the New York Yankees
- 11:43Speaker 2: in the first spot. They have a seven game advantage
- 11:45Speaker 2: in the wild Card than the White Sox, which again
- 11:48Speaker 2: very surprising, a one and a half game lead there
- 11:51Speaker 2: in terms of the second place, and then the Twins.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But then you look down and everybody else, even the
- 11:56Speaker 2: Twins at the moment, are two games below five hundred,
- 12:00Speaker 2: yet they're in a playoff spot in the Wildcard. Why
- 12:04Speaker 2: is the junior circuit so weak this season?
- 12:08Speaker 1: I don't know that if there is one answer to that, Alana.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I'll say this though, and I'm just throwing it out there,
- 12:14Speaker 1: because the Dodgers of a boogeyman of the sport right now,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and MLB mentioned them again in their release yesterday responding
- 12:20Speaker 1: to the union's proposal. How the Dodgers would not be
- 12:23Speaker 1: penalized enough under what the union is proposing. Okay, we
- 12:26Speaker 1: don't need to go into that, but in my opinion,
- 12:29Speaker 1: the Dodgers have raised the bar in the National League.
- 12:33Speaker 1: They've made the Padres spend money to try to catch
- 12:36Speaker 1: up the Phillies. The Mets have done the same, the Mets,
- 12:39Speaker 1: of course not too great effect, and the Cubs too,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and it just seems to me that the standard is
- 12:45Speaker 1: a little higher there now. Obviously you have the Yankees
- 12:48Speaker 1: in the American League as well. I'm not sure how
- 12:51Speaker 1: the payroll breaks down in terms of which league has
- 12:54Speaker 1: more high payroll teams. I would guess it's the National League,
- 12:57Speaker 1: but it just seems that this is sick of for
- 13:00Speaker 1: the most part, and one of those things. And listen,
- 13:04Speaker 1: the season is only our third complete. The Orioles are
- 13:07Speaker 1: starting to play better, just as one example. Maybe there
- 13:10Speaker 1: are other teams as well that finally kind of start
- 13:14Speaker 1: to kick in a little bit. Seattle's playing a little
- 13:16Speaker 1: bit better. They've won a few more games lately, coming
- 13:19Speaker 1: off a good series in Sacramento. So we may see
- 13:22Speaker 1: some of these teams start to emerge in a bigger way.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You had mentioned the Orioles playing a little bit better.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Alexander rain seventy nine oh eight wants to know are
- 13:30Speaker 2: they in a position to buy this deadline?
- 13:33Speaker 1: Not yet, but we're two months away, actually more than
- 13:36Speaker 1: two months away still, and if indeed they continue their
- 13:41Speaker 1: recent upswing, yes they will be in position to buy.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And what will they need? The same thing they've needed
- 13:46Speaker 1: for the past. I don't know, two to three years,
- 13:48Speaker 1: a top of the rotation starter. If Scooble is out there,
- 13:52Speaker 1: they would be certainly one of the teams in the
- 13:54Speaker 1: mixed Freddy Peralta. I don't know that Freddy Peralta is
- 13:57Speaker 1: that much of a difference maker, but he'd be better
- 13:59Speaker 1: than what.
- 14:00Speaker 2: They have, all right, A good question that we were
- 14:03Speaker 2: here to ponder. Where does your don Alvarez rank among
- 14:07Speaker 2: the best hitters in baseball? Can two straight two home
- 14:11Speaker 2: run days, twenty home runs already? Overall? Where does he
- 14:14Speaker 2: rank in terms of the game's best to you?
- 14:17Speaker 1: Right up there? You'd have to put him up there
- 14:19Speaker 1: and right now. If you look at the OPS plus
- 14:22Speaker 1: leaders and OPS plus is adjusted OPS adjusted to the
- 14:26Speaker 1: players ballpark and his league, jord On Alvarez is the
- 14:30Speaker 1: number one guy. He is leading the majors in OPS
- 14:33Speaker 1: plus and a number of other categories as well. You
- 14:35Speaker 1: see him right there that two oh two. What it
- 14:37Speaker 1: means is he is one hundred and two percent above
- 14:41Speaker 1: league average. One hundred is league average Ben Rice, next,
- 14:44Speaker 1: James Wood, Christian Walker, and Kyle Schwarber. So Alvarez has
- 14:48Speaker 1: always been one of the most dangerous hitters in the game,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and this year so far it's a total tour de
- 14:54Speaker 1: force and he has been I would say, yes, the
- 14:58Speaker 1: best hitter in the game. You look at some of
- 15:00Speaker 1: the other advanced metrics WRC plus, he's number one there
- 15:03Speaker 1: as well. And even in years where he's not necessarily
- 15:08Speaker 1: at the top of these leaderboards or ears when he's injured.
- 15:12Speaker 1: When this guy is healthy, he is as good as
- 15:15Speaker 1: it gets.
- 15:16Speaker 2: All right. You can check out Chandler Rome's article two.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Of course, another colleague of Ken Rosenthal with The Athletic.
- 15:22Speaker 2: He also hosts the astros Pod on our Foul Territory
- 15:25Speaker 2: netwhere he can check out his article on Alvarez and
- 15:29Speaker 2: you can also to catch him on Crush City Territory.
- 15:32Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna be back with Dude and Dork
- 15:34Speaker 2: after this.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Godfather. I'm a last minic guy. Sometimes you're a last
- 15:39Speaker 3: mintic guy where you all of a sudden see a
- 15:41Speaker 3: night open up and you want to go grab some
- 15:43Speaker 3: tickets and you hadn't gotten them already, So you're going
- 15:46Speaker 3: to see geek and you're going to go look for
- 15:48Speaker 3: a green dot and see where the good seats are
- 15:50Speaker 3: and the good value is and have a little night
- 15:53Speaker 3: with the fam.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Right without a doubt. And I'm looking for some of
- 15:56Speaker 5: the best seats. I'm looking for that green dot. When
- 15:58Speaker 5: I get that, it's a simple plug it in, use
- 16:01Speaker 5: your hands, go right on your screen, your phone, whatever
- 16:05Speaker 5: platform you can get it on. And it's so simple.
- 16:07Speaker 5: They make it so easy for you to do. Even
- 16:11Speaker 5: my son can do it if I ask them. Hey, Blikester,
- 16:13Speaker 5: let's go man, get on there for us. Find us
- 16:15Speaker 5: a couple of seats so we can watch even that
- 16:17Speaker 5: Subway series. That would be fantastic. Seat geek has it
- 16:20Speaker 5: all there for you.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and the code for you. You should know it.
- 16:24Speaker 3: It's Territory ten. It just gets you ten percent off
- 16:26Speaker 3: your next set of tickets. AT's see ten percent off
- 16:28Speaker 3: any tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make sure
- 16:31Speaker 3: you click the link in the description, download the app.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Then the code is automatically added to you account so
- 16:36Speaker 3: you can use it later.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It is time to give our flowers, to give our
- 16:46Speaker 2: props to the dude of the week. Can you have honors?
- 16:49Speaker 1: Go ahead? I mentioned earlier the Orioles are in the
- 16:52Speaker 1: middle of a bit of a resurgence here, and the
- 16:55Speaker 1: guy who was at the center of it all earlier
- 16:57Speaker 1: in the week was the Dude of the Weeklton Kowser
- 17:01Speaker 1: two run walkoff homer on I'm sorry, three run walkoff
- 17:05Speaker 1: homer on Sunday, then a two run walkoff homer in
- 17:09Speaker 1: the thirteenth inning on Monday, a game in which he
- 17:11Speaker 1: also had a great slide to tie the score in
- 17:14Speaker 1: extra innings. So back to back walk offs for Colton
- 17:17Speaker 1: Kowser to give the Orioles wins. He's been something of
- 17:20Speaker 1: a disappointing player earlier in this season, and now obviously
- 17:24Speaker 1: he has done some really big things. First oriol to
- 17:28Speaker 1: hit walkoff homers in consecutive games since fred Linn in
- 17:32Speaker 1: nineteen eighty five. How long ago was that? That was
- 17:34Speaker 1: two years before I started covering the Oriols, So that
- 17:37Speaker 1: was a long time ago. Colin Kawser, week.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Ago, long long fred Linn is an Oriol I think
- 17:43Speaker 2: if fred Linn is a Red Sock, that was a long, long, long,
- 17:45Speaker 2: long time ago. All right. My standout performer of the
- 17:48Speaker 2: week is a current Red Sox Wilson Controres for a
- 17:51Speaker 2: number of reasons. Over the course of the weekend, he
- 17:54Speaker 2: hit career hit number one thousand. He has since exceeded
- 17:57Speaker 2: that mark, but it came in the form of an
- 17:59Speaker 2: RBI triple. Coming into the season, Wilson Conturiss had only
- 18:02Speaker 2: had eleven triples. He has two already this season, and
- 18:06Speaker 2: he now has over a thousand hits, and he also
- 18:08Speaker 2: hit the ten year service time mark, which very few
- 18:12Speaker 2: players in Major League Baseball get to ten years, and
- 18:14Speaker 2: they're fully vested in terms of their pension and those
- 18:17Speaker 2: types of things. He gave the RBI triple ball to
- 18:20Speaker 2: his dad, he gave the bat to his mom. He
- 18:22Speaker 2: said he didn't want any conflict in the house. And
- 18:24Speaker 2: he also told me that when he was signed in
- 18:26Speaker 2: twenty sixteen, once he came up to the big league level,
- 18:30Speaker 2: his goal was never to be sent down again. So
- 18:32Speaker 2: Wilson Conturi's Ale Player of the Week. Congratulations on the honor,
- 18:36Speaker 2: and congratulations for hitting that ten year service time mark.
- 18:41Speaker 2: All right, let's get to the dork of the week. Okay, Ken,
- 18:53Speaker 2: who is your dork?
- 18:55Speaker 1: The Texas Rangers lineup. Now. We haven't talked enough about
- 18:59Speaker 1: the this season. They have been, along with the Royals,
- 19:03Speaker 1: the Orioles, some other teams, among the game's biggest disappointments.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And once again, they are not hitting and that's been
- 19:10Speaker 1: the problem. And earlier in the week when they faced
- 19:14Speaker 1: the Houston Astros, they were no hitter. They were no hit. Now,
- 19:17Speaker 1: Chandler Roam of the Athletic tweeted out that that was
- 19:21Speaker 1: the most improbable no hitter in Astro's history. Okay I
- 19:24Speaker 1: would go one further and say it was one of
- 19:27Speaker 1: the most improbable no hitters in Major league history. Why
- 19:31Speaker 1: because it was started by a guy, Tatsuya am I,
- 19:35Speaker 1: who had an eight plus eer entering the game. He
- 19:38Speaker 1: pitched the first six innings. The no hitter was ended
- 19:41Speaker 1: by a guy, alimber Santa who was making his major
- 19:46Speaker 1: league debut. Think about that, This cat's making his major
- 19:50Speaker 1: league debut and he finishes out a no hitter against
- 19:53Speaker 1: the Texas Rangers. Now that game obviously was an outlier
- 19:57Speaker 1: even for the Rangers, but it's symbolized their offensive futility
- 20:01Speaker 1: that really has existed since the second half of twenty
- 20:05Speaker 1: four and this has been ongoing for them. They just
- 20:08Speaker 1: dfade a cutchin. But for all these reasons, and especially
- 20:13Speaker 1: getting no hit by the Astros, they are the offensive
- 20:17Speaker 1: players anyway, the Dorks of the week.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Ken, do you buy into combined no hitters? Is that
- 20:22Speaker 2: real deal?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Sure it's not as impressive obviously as an individual no hitter.
- 20:27Speaker 1: An individual no hitter is something that is a rare
- 20:30Speaker 1: feat in the game. And increasingly rare in our game
- 20:33Speaker 1: today because pitchers rarely go nine innings anymore. But a
- 20:37Speaker 1: combined no hitter, in some ways is even a bigger
- 20:41Speaker 1: testament to the catcher. In this case, it was Christian
- 20:43Speaker 1: Vasquez who caught the combined no hitter in the World
- 20:46Speaker 1: Series for the Astros in twenty two. I believe that
- 20:49Speaker 1: was so. Yeah, it's really impressive and it can't be
- 20:55Speaker 1: looked at the same way as an individual no hitter alone,
- 20:58Speaker 1: but at the same time, to get several pitchers doing
- 21:01Speaker 1: it and peeing at that peak of a level, that's impressive.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you on that, all right. My
- 21:07Speaker 2: door of the week is Rebay and the reason I
- 21:11Speaker 2: say that is because you can't do this on a
- 21:13Speaker 2: baseball field. Can First of all, it was also an
- 21:16Speaker 2: abs challenge that Abner Uriba threw a strike, and thank goodness,
- 21:21Speaker 2: in his case, it actually was a strike because he
- 21:24Speaker 2: did this like chop, you know, towards the Saint Louis Cardinals,
- 21:29Speaker 2: dugout where he was incredibly, in my opinion, incredibly rude,
- 21:33Speaker 2: and it wasn't as if it was the bottom of
- 21:34Speaker 2: the ninth and he just struck out the side to
- 21:36Speaker 2: win the World Series. I mean, this is something that
- 21:41Speaker 2: was incredibly, incredibly tasteless against the Cardinals dugout, and I'm
- 21:46Speaker 2: really surprised, honestly that they didn't you know that the
- 21:49Speaker 2: batter didn't kind of rush the mound. But Pat Murphy,
- 21:52Speaker 2: the Brewer's manager, didn't take very kindly to it either,
- 21:56Speaker 2: with his own player, Abner Ribe, making this gesture after
- 22:00Speaker 2: he struck out the Saint Louis Cardinals. So we're not
- 22:03Speaker 2: going to show it here. You can check it out
- 22:05Speaker 2: on X But Abner Uribe is my dork of the week.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Who is your dork of the week? Guys? And you're
- 22:11Speaker 2: due to the week. Let us know in the comments
- 22:13Speaker 2: who we missed. We're gonna see what we can find
- 22:16Speaker 2: next week. In terms of that, you can't do it
- 22:18Speaker 2: on the baseball field, Abner Uribate, you just can't do
- 22:21Speaker 2: it on the baseball field. All right? Are you excited
- 22:23Speaker 2: about Cubs and Cardinals?
- 22:25Speaker 1: Ken? I will see this, Solana. At the start of
- 22:28Speaker 1: the year, I looked at my Fox schedule and saw
- 22:31Speaker 1: the Cardinals were on three times in the first two months,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and I thought, what are we doing? Because the Cardinals,
- 22:38Speaker 1: of course are rebuilding team. They traded Contraris, they traded great,
- 22:41Speaker 1: they traded Arnato, and yet the Cardinals have been one
- 22:44Speaker 1: of the best stories in baseball during these first two months.
- 22:48Speaker 1: So maybe my boss is at Fox. Well maybe definitely,
- 22:51Speaker 1: they were a lot smarter than I was. And this
- 22:54Speaker 1: series is going to be interesting because the Cardinals have
- 22:57Speaker 1: played at this really high level. The Cubs are coming
- 23:00Speaker 1: out of their ten game losing streak, So for both teams,
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's kind of a measuring stick of sorts, at least
- 23:06Speaker 1: of where they are now. And I anticipate this is
- 23:09Speaker 1: going to be a fun one, as it always is
- 23:11Speaker 1: with Cubs Cardinals. It's like Yankees Red Sox or Dodgers
- 23:15Speaker 1: Giants or Dodgers Padres, except with a much friendlier twist.
- 23:19Speaker 1: The fans are much kinder to each other than the
- 23:22Speaker 1: fans of the teams that I just mentioned.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Well, the Saint Louis Cardinals losers of four straight, but
- 23:26Speaker 2: they still have the third spot in the National League
- 23:28Speaker 2: Wildcard and the team right behind them, the Chicago Cubs.
- 23:32Speaker 2: They are fourth right now in the NL Wildcard location.
- 23:35Speaker 2: All right, that's going to do it for fair territory.
- 23:37Speaker 2: With Ken Rosenthal foul Territory is coming up next. Josh
- 23:42Speaker 2: Reddick Joints as well as David Samson Ken is back
- 23:45Speaker 2: on Monday. Have a great weekend. Everybody looking to take
