- 0:11SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the Adam and Deedra show.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: We're here with you today drinking a ringtail.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: It's a double dry hopped hazy IPA from Rinhouse out of Phoenix, Arizona.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: Um cheers.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's so good.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And uh today is a very good idea.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: That's so terrible.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Of course it's gonna be delicious.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Are you gonna talk at the same time as me every time?
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Today we're doing a Valentine's Day episode.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Um we went to a beer festival for our Valentine's Day.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: I don't know what you did, but uh we do beer things.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: It was the Arizona Strong Beer Festival um in Scottsdale.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Um probably one of the better beer festivals in t in uh the state that I that I enjoy.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Um it is brought on by the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild and uh Ashley right here representing thank you very much.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah, we tried a bunch of good beers.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: Yes, just this past weekend we went to the Strong Beer Festival and beautiful weather um mid-February in Phoenix.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: The weather was beautiful, it was perfect, a perfect day for drinking beer.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: Um I remember the first thing getting there because it was such a long drive for us, just immediately having to use the bathroom.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Like an hour drive to get that going, right?
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: Yes, and they had many.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: They had many outdoor bathrooms there and they were all clean.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Um, the only thing that they didn't have actually was usually they have like a mobile um like hand washing station, but they didn't.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: But I I came prepared and I had hand sanitizer in my pocket.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Um, so once we got past that extreme need, um, we had to obviously go out and start replenishing um all the liquids that we lost.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: And what was the first place that we went to?
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: Oh that's right.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: So Oscar Blues.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: The first one, you got the regular uh Dale's Pale Ale, which is solid pale ale.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: That one's really good.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: Very good, very refreshing.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and one thing that they had there that I've never even seen before was a strong lager, they called it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: And uh I thought it was I thought it was really interesting.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: I actually thought it was uh one one of the more unique beers that I had.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: And uh somebody said it uh best to us.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: It was kind of like the uh College Street uh big blue van out of uh Lake Abbasu.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: It was very similar, almost kind of had a furry taste to it, but I think that was more the hops and not necessarily any added flavors to that, but that had a really good uh smooth uh taste to it too.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: And it was strong, was it like 8.5% or something like that?
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: Right, and that was actually really good, like considering the the pale ale that I had.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: The one that you had, the strong one, that one was actually, I want to say, almost better than the pale ale.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's tough to say because it's such a clean flavor.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: They were they're both actually really good.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: I wish I went back there more.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know exactly how many uh uh breweries they had at this festival, but uh I mean it was obviously Arizona heavy with the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild putting it on.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: But I mean, besides the Arizona breweries, they had uh well, obviously Oscar Blues.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: They had uh New Belgian was out there, they had uh uh Drecker was actually out there and uh Ren House was out there.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Ren House actually had a big tent out there, so much appreciated, even though the weather was beautiful at some point during the day.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: I want to say about three, it just felt like the sun was super intense.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: And just getting under that tent for just a little bit at Ren House, that was awesome.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was a toasty 71 degrees out there, right?
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: But like when you get direct sun, it does magnify a little bit.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: And when there's so many um uh tents that are out there, plus people you don't quite get that airflow, so it does feel like it intensifies.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: I felt like you just had to keep moving because then you would like try to dodge the sun rays, you know.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: And that was that was the thing is just trying to keep moving.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: And for me, it was difficult because I'm not the tallest person.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: So I feel like everybody's just kind of walking almost like over and into me.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: So it was just like holding my cup, trying to like shuffle and like like a little mouse screwing.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: I'm 6'2, I had no issues.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Origin in charge.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: All right, I'm not that tall.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: I I always try to wear a bright red shirt so that way I can be noticed by somebody.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: It doesn't always work out, but it's a good theory.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: I can keep track of you.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: I guess that's a good thing.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: That you know, that's a good thing.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: I appreciate you keeping track of me like that.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Rent House.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna talk about it.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: I know you don't like it that that much.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: The King Snake, it's barrel-aged.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, this one I think was a vanilla uh stout, and uh that that was just amazing.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: I think it was about a 13% alcohol, so it was pretty heavy.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, just like any other barrel-aged uh stout, especially barley wine, any of those, it's gonna be a heavy, heavy hitter, but it is so good.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: It's like as far as Arizona breweries, there's a lot of them.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: I I mean, throughout the country that make that have a really good uh barrel aged program.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: Um, thank you for my Valentine's Day gift.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: It was uh it was at a barrel-aged stout from Anchorage Brewing Company out of Alaska.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: And I oh my gosh, if anybody has not tried that before, I recommend it as long as you like barrel-aged stouts, I guess.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: But I wish I could share your enthusiasm on that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: And I feel like one of these days I will because I didn't always start out with hazy's.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: I was actually really against hazy's and IPAs.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: I really only just drank wheat beers.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Um, but then I kind of just started to transition and try.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: And eventually now that's really all I drink are just hazy's and Miller Light.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Um, so I feel like much like we're talking to craft beer people.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: You just said Miller Light.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: This is true.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, that is that Miller Light holds a soft place in my heart because they're also sponsors of the Dallas Cowboys.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: So uh it's I'm already I like football.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: We just had the Super Bowl, so I'm already going through withdrawals for sports.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: It's all star week for basketball, baseball hasn't started, so I'm just looking forward to the next best thing.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: And the most topical thing right now is football.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, not to everybody who wasn't in the Super Bowl.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: True.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Anyways, so getting back onto the topic of beer.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: So I just feel like eventually I feel like I'll start transitioning and pulling towards uh just the barrel age, but I don't think I've quite found something that is maybe consistent enough that's being carried by places to really have it to really kind of help me start developing that part of my palate.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, I just give it time, I'll I'm sure I'll get there.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Well, generally they're pretty sweet, and I know that you're not a big sweet person.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Well, you're not sweet at all.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: No, I'm actually very bitter.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Hence the APAs that we were leaning towards, huh?
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there you go.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: Wow, I guess that beer was a personality.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: So I think I love the the beer story that people, you know, when they get started and uh how they got started, what they got started with.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And everybody I feel like always has an interesting story.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: It's like most people uh start out having you know light stuff like the Miller lights or things like that, or Zima.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Just kidding.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: And uh, oh yeah, and then it starts and turns into a a story.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: You have this, and you're like, and then you know, oh I you know, I really like this one.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: And then well, how about this one?
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: Let me try this, you know, and everybody has that story that really gets them into it, or they have people um that just bring them in into the to the beer world, and it's just like, you know, they never had any uh Bud Light or whatever at their house, they always had interesting stuff, and uh, you know, a lot of people get their start that way too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: But everybody has a unique story, and I and I really do love hearing them all.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: True.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'm just waiting to have that one barrel age that's gonna really start to bring me over into that that world because I do feel like I'm missing out quite often because when we do the beer shares or just hanging out, it's always, oh my god, you have to try this, this, this barrel age.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, is it from so and so?
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's amazing.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: Um, so and I always feel like I'm missing out.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: So I'm just like, uh, all right, I'll just get my IPA, get my whatever, and just sit here in the corner by myself drinking it.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Nothing like geeking out about a bunch of beers, right?
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: So going back to the festival, um a lot, a lot of uh just breweries, a lot of great beer was definitely out there.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: And I actually had, and I wish I could remember the name of it, but I actually had this seltzer and it was, and I'm not a big seltzer person.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: Um was it a six bird?
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: No, it wasn't six bird.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: I can't remember the name of it, but I I tried it just on the whim.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: Well, they didn't they it was actually really clean and it was like I think it was a cucumber um watermelon, and that one really got me by surprise because I was like, we're at a beer festival, why not try it?
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: It's you know, it's already paid for, it's a taste ink, um, not committing to an entire glass.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: So I went for it and I was just like, wow.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: And I was like, this is actually really good.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: And because it was kind of at the warmest part of the day, it didn't, it was very refreshing, but it didn't have that seltzery flavor to it, which turns me off from seltzers, but it was really well balanced and it was like I said, it was really refreshing and it didn't have that uh that seltzery flavor, that elka seltzer club soda, whatever.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: And I'm I'm not a barrel-aged person yet, but I think if I were to find, if I could just recall the name of that seltzer, um, the people who made it, I think I if they sold it in stores, I think I would.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Like if we go to the lake, I might bring one or two of those out just to kind of break up, you know, the beer.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Um what else notable did you feel like you had?
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: I feel like there was a lot of good ones.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: I I had a hazy just randomly out of this place out of Prescott called Lazy G's, they had a uh hazy called hazy geez.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: I actually enjoyed that.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: And actually, I think after I had that after a couple stouts, the guy had to like squirt and rinse my cup out like three or four times because it was like just coated.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: And uh that hazy was pretty good.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: I said ignore those.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: It was going in my cup.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: And then um, oh, I had another beer from uh no right at the end there, it was from New Belgium.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: It was one of the voodoo rangers.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: I think it was called like the G Force.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Wasn't that like 11% alcohol or something ridiculous?
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: That was actually like a fruit smoothie.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was not thick like that, but just the flavor was just very tropical.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: And I was like, this is uh New Belgium, huh?
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: 11%.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: And I know we said this the last time, but there are some pretty heavy beers out there that do not drink like they're 10, 11 plus percent.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Like this one from New Belgium or um, yeah, Booty Ranger that made it was actually really good.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: And I remember that was one of the places, yes, that we hit up on the way out because we're just kind of waiting for everybody to meet back up by the bathrooms.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: And they were kind of taking their time, which is okay.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: Um, but we just saw a couple more tents that were still up and going.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: So we're like, hey, since we're waiting, why not grab an extra pour to, you know, since we're we've got time to kill.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Um, and that was where Booty Ranger was, and that was actually really, really good.
- 12:13SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: That was good.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was one and uh I gotta say this though, New Belgian, you're listening, you screwed up with the fat tire.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, I loved that amber.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: You can't turn in a the fat tire into a blonde.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: I you can't just change a beer like that.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: I'm old school.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: I want that fat tire to be in amber.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: True, true.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: I was actually that was one of my um favorites for a while, was uh from fat tire.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: And then I kind of started to notice like the weight gain, because I was drinking it so often.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm gonna I'm gonna back up on this.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: And I think that's when I switched it up and I was like, wow, this Miller light.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: 96 calories.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Um, but another one, like I and I had a ton of hazy, and I feel like after a while it all just kind of started to taste the same.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: And I would instead of drinking the pour, I would drink maybe half of it and just dump it because after a while it all did kind of start to blend and taste the same.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Um, and then I came across toppling Goliath.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, they were there.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: That was that was amazing.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: And then I like my eyes grew, my eyes were huge because right next to what I saw, Drecker, and I absolutely love Drecker.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: And it was nice because it was good to have a sour.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: Like I said, having all those hazies, it does all kind of start to taste the same.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Coming across Drecker like that and the sours, and if you guys out there know about Drecker, the types of sours that they make, amazing.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: And when I when I think about sours, that's what I envision.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: I don't like the watery, really tart sours.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: I like the thick, smoothie sours, the kind that they make.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Oh, they're so good.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: So I told the lady and I was like, you know, just give me half a pour.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: I see Drecker, you know, right next door.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna I'm gonna hit up like, you know, kind of this next row.
- 14:05SPEAKER_03: But I just really wanted more room for Drecker.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Well, top lane, toppling Goliath is pretty legit.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: Yes, I can't remember.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: I know they had the the King Sioux there, which is uh their flagship, and they had another one that I I tried that I didn't normally see inside the stores.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Um it's starting to get distributed out here now, so that's actually really nice.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: But that one from Drecker was freaking amazing.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: So Fargo, North Dakota, thank you.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: I want to check out that.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: Did you see do you know they have like a whole like shopping community?
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: It's called like Brewhalla where you can like hang out and it and it's like almost like a whole complex for for that brewery.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: No, you really gotta check that out.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: I was saying no, but that just makes I think that that should really be our push and our drive to get out there at some point for a summer break.
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: Um, another one that we that was in the same area from Drecker right across was actually um Harlan.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Harlan was out there.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: Harlan um uh did we ever did we stop by everywhere?
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: We did, yes.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: So everywhere is out there, that's out of Orange, California.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a great brewery too.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: And actually, while we were there, because that was on that same stretch, there was a couple beers from uh Yuma.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: I think there's like two uh breweries there.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: One of them's called uh yeah, High Tanks.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Well, that's I think that's what the the the one of the ladies said at one of the breweries there.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Um high tanks was one of them, and high tanks had this date ale.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: So uh in Yuma, Arizona, just outside of there, there's a um a small town, I guess.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: It's called uh Dateland, and uh they do date farming there.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: And Yuma just being um not too far from from that area, they actually had a date beer, and I was just like, oh my gosh.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I just got it because I was like, okay, this is something different from anything else here.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: And uh not only did they they pour the it was like an amber, I think it was, or or something like that, and it had this little date garnish on the corner there.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: So I had this beer with a little date garnish, and oh you know what?
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: I enjoyed that beer.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: That was good.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: It was fitting, it was definitely fitting.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that was that was really good, but everywhere was right there down a few spots, and I can't remember.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: So um I at least it is for me.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Uh you go to place after place after place, and it all starts to kind of blur together there.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: But we we did uh honestly meet a lot of great people, uh, the people from uh Tombstone, uh Simple Machine, Front Porch, uh, I mean, all of them that we were running into.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: And one of the directors of theirs on a uh crap Bruce Gill Andy, we ran into walking around.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: And uh so it I mean, just talking with uh the folks out there was actually a lot of fun.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: And just, hey, what do you guys got?
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: What do you guys got?
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: And it's like every single one that we were stopping at, we're pretty much asking the same thing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, Bonehouse, we went, we stopped at that place too.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: It's out of Fountain Hills, Arizona.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Oh probably one of the best sour programs out there.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm sorry, not sour, uh Hazy's.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: They get they had one that was just oh, it was thick.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: It was like, oh, it was so tasty.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: And it didn't have like that really strong like bitterness inside there.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: And it was almost like floral.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: It had like a really good, um, like a dry hop flavor to it.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: I I enjoyed it a lot, and I really love their their uh beers, and they have actually pretty cool artwork on their cans too.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: So Bonehouse out of Fountain Hills, Arizona.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: I recommend it too.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: Dark Sky was out there, so I definitely made sure I I made my way out there to have a couple tastings from Dark Sky.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: That's out of Flagstaff, Arizona.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Delicious as always.
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, I really don't think there was a beer that I can really recall that I was just like, ugh.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, like I said, I I had that seltzer and I went out on a whim.
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: And I if I was gonna throw anything out, I would have been like, oh, this is gonna be the one I'm gonna not finish.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: But it was actually one that I did finish and actually told other people without telling them that it was a seltzer.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, here, try this.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: It's so clean and so refreshing.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: Um we don't care about germs.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: So if and when I remember the name of it, I'll definitely make sure I share that.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: So anybody out there that's looking for some seltzers that are not that don't like the real seltzery club soda flavor.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: Um, this would be one I I I actually recommend, which kind of says a lot.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, for what my opinion's worth.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: Um the shop beer company was there too.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: They had their whole spread.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: They do they do a really uh really neat booth.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was a big uh enclosed area.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: They got music playing.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Um and one of their beers is called Church Music, which is a uh hazy IPA, also, and uh that's what they're kind of uh their flagship, that's what they're known for.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: So I think that's why they're blasting their music so much.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, church music.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: Although it wasn't it wasn't very churchy, was it?
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: No.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I expected to go in there full Baptist and start getting start singing like I I was down, like I was ready.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: I probably could have been safe that day.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: I should have been.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: We usually get ours on uh Sunday anyway.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: You know, get our church music.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: True, true.
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: We do, we have our moments.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Um, so after the beer festival, we're there for from oh, we got there just after one o'clock.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: Uh we just had general admission.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: So general admission entries at one, and they go from one to five.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: So we were there pretty much the entire time, with the exception of like what the first half hour.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: So we were there for a while.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: We got to watch some of the wrestling, um, had a little bit of a snack, not too much.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: We were actually saving ourselves our appetite for the next part of the of our weekend.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: Um, so once we kind of wrap things up at the beer festival, it's hard to not go to Trevor's afterwards and hang on, hang on, hang on.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: You glanced over the the amateur wrestling that quick.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: That is it's it's strange.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: They got they do have amateur wrestling there, and uh these people kind of go all out.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: It's it's fun to watch just because it's just like your next door neighbor basically wrestling almost, and it's you know, they're they're trying to do the whole uh WWF thing, and um that they look like they're having a whole lot of fun doing that too.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: The crowd going and everything.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Oh right.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Hilarious.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Um it I found it to be a little bit ridiculous, but it was entertaining for what it was worth.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was free entertainment, I guess.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, when you pay for a ticket, is the entertainment free?
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: Um, so it was worth every dollar, I suppose, that we paid um for it.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: It's it's hilarious.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: And uh, like I said, it looks like they're having a having a blast doing it.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, good for them.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: But I I mean I just felt like there was so much more beer out there to try and to have.
- 20:57SPEAKER_03: Oh, another one that I think of because it was right there where the wrestling was, was Sturgis.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: Sturgis brewing.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Um, that was right there, and I can't remember exactly what I had, but I remember just having like going up to their tent and looking at their merchandise.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Their merchandise looked super, super neat, just like the logo, um, everything, like the hats.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: And I I actually really regret not getting anything from there because I really like the way that their stuff looked.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: It's almost like military.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: It's a guy with like a hot beard, right?
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: Yes, I really liked the way that a lot of their merchandise looked, and I I'm actually kind of disappointed I didn't get anything from there.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: But then I was also kind of forward thinking, like, we still have quite a bit of the night left.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: I don't want to get stuck, you know, getting something and then having to carry it and lose it, and yeah, you know, merchandise there especially is not cheap.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: So I didn't want to lose it.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: And there was also that other place, and I really like their concept.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: I can't remember, it was like what is it, the brewery at Torino Farms or something.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, don't they have they're like out in the middle of nowhere and don't they do like Torito?
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: Torito?
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Dorito.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: I love me some Doritos.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: Especially the spicy, the hot, spicy nachos.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: Flamin' hot nachos.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: I'm the chip person.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: You digress.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, but that place does they do like uh like almost like an Airbnb there, um, I believe.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: And it's like kind of like out, not close to like any normal city.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Um any normal city, any like big city.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Something like that.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: But I do like their beer too.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: It's really, it's always like a real clean, clean flavors.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: They they they really uh they do classic style beers and they're usually pretty good.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: But anyway, um, we were talking about Trevor's.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: So Trevor's is a liquor store.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say it, it's yeah, that's probably the best way to describe it.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: It is a oversized liquor store, but they have a pizza restaurant in there.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: And it is not oversized, it is perfect.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: That's but there is nothing wrong with Trevor's, like they they really thought it out and did everything right.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Um, and I I was actually telling Adam maybe a year or two ago when we first went there, I was like, oh my gosh, I love this place.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: We need to move here.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: Like, why do we live so far from this little tiny piece of heaven?
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: Um, but I'll I'll let you get into all of that.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: The details.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: It is it is a a liquor store, so they do have like full, you know, um alcohol and beer, beer fridges, things like that that you can get there.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: And the specific one that we went to um was out of North Scottsdale, and uh they have the pizza restaurant inside of it, also.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: They have a cigar lounge inside there, plus a full bar with uh a great whiskey selection for those who enjoy the whiskey also.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: They also have beers on tap, too, that you can get.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: And we were doing a little bit of both.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: Um, had some amazing, amazing whiskeys, smoked some cigars and had a um a uh a pizza right there, also.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: And this is uh and I'm going on a out on a limb here.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: This it is one of the best pizzas in the st in the state.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: We've got gone to pizza places, I think, across this state and uh many others also, and this one is up there, is probably one of one of my favorites, and um it looked like you were enjoying it too.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: You said this time it was a little bit soggy at the bottom, but it seems to happen from time to time at at uh the brick oven pizza places.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: It was so good though.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: It was like a meat lover's record.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: So we started out with a cigar and we both had an old fashioned um, which was like old fashions.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Those are kind of hit or miss on plays, some places that you go because some places it can be a little bit too sweet.
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: Um, but the old fashions over there at Trevor's, they they have a pretty good, they have a good, they have it down the recipe.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Um, it was balanced, not overly sweet.
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: Um, just clean, something that you want with your cigar.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: So that one was actually really good.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: And then for just like a regular pour after, um, I had the blue weller and I always forget which one it is.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Foolproof.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Foolproof.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: I'll never remember the name of it.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: I'll always refer to it as the blue one.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but that one's definitely my favorite, and I just I love the way that it tastes, and it just needs like a little hint of water, splash of splash of water, tiny piece of ice, something.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Um, and even then, like just meat for me, it's delicious, it's amazing.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Um got the pizza.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: Um actually, so like I I had a cigar um and I was just really enjoying myself that I actually ended up leaving and getting another cigar and coming back.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: And usually I just have the one, like one's enough for me.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're an animal.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: But yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: Um, and I I appreciate the deadwoods.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: So I went back into the humidor and I asked one of the workers there, you know, to help me pick out um a deadwood because typically Adam gets them for me, and he was busy having his own grand old time.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Oh, all right, well, I don't want to.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: Whiskey, a beer, and a cigar.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: We're all just like, oh you were just like, oh, what wife?
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: If you had that pizza, yeah.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I didn't what once you started eating that pizza, I didn't see a look in my direction either.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: So um, I just grabbed one of the employees and he helped me choose another cigar.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: And then that's when Adam showed up and was just like, hey, what are you doing?
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: I'm like, hey, perfect, just in time.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Now you can help me pay.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: I wasn't really thinking that far ahead.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: And I, for those of you that don't know me, I don't carry a purse, anything in my pockets.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: I always try to wear leggings so I can cram, you know, my cell phone, my lip gloss, and gum.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: And that's really all I really ever have in my pockets.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: That means that I gotta pay for everything.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: And he also carries my ID as well.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: But people don't ask for that these days.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: I I get I got ready to go hand it out.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: Like we're just at the grocery store the other day, and I'm like, he goes, What's your birthday?
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Do you need my ID?
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: He's like, No, no, no, just just your birthday, and I'll be come on.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: He was a bit of an ask because he was like, Sometimes I just want to hold a mirror up to our customers.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Do you think you need an ID?
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: I'm like, this gray's could have been for any of the reasons.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: Maybe I was painting.
- 27:35unknown: Right.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: You may have just been due for a shower.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Oh man, come on.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: Um, it's winter.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: Your your skin's just dry.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Ah, okay.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: That's what makes gray beards.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: I am gonna have excuses.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: I'm really trying to make him feel better.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna drink.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: So what do you think of this one?
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: The double dry hopped hazy called Ringtail from Renhouse.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: Renhouse has a huge following in uh in the Phoenix area.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: They they're um not only have they have a tap room in Phoenix, which is their main um brewery, but they uh built a second one up in Prescott, Arizona.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: We haven't been to that one yet.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, but uh it's it's they they do make some pretty good beers.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, this one specifically, they have a great barrel age program.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Um, this is uh just a very mild uh hazy, I think.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: 6.3% alcohol, good flavor in my opinion.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, what do what do you think of it?
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: It's it's a very easy, hazy to drink.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: Um, again, it's from Rent House.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: They do have a really big following.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: And if you've been to the Phoenix location, um, love the Phoenix location.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: It's based out of a house, a small house.
- 28:49SPEAKER_03: Parking is tricky.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: Um, so if you ever go to Rent House, just keep in mind that the parking lot in the front, you can probably hold like four cars.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Well, they got that side, so probably like seven.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: I think there's parking in the rear, but you can also like find surrounding areas to park, but it it gets sketchy.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: We parked across a street and like frogger did across 24th Street as yes, and getting back to the car was tricky because you know, you've got some beers in, you're not quite as fast on your feet, your reaction time is dropping with each beer that you have.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: So if you park across the street, I highly recommend um just getting beer to go.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Very true.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Or if you're out and about, you know, make sure that the Uber pulls up in front in that small parking lot so you're not trying to chase your Uber down.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: But I mean, other than that, like it's a small house, and again, that's one of those places where it just really kind of almost forces conversation because the place is small, it's cozy, it's quaint, and they have a cat that kind of roams around the place.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they have that outside area too that's really neat, like uh picnic tables, and it just seems like every single time we go there, the weather's again like perfect.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: Plus, they have a little bit of shade back there too.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: And we just sit out there and just be like, oh my gosh, you know?
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: It's a place where you can definitely get comfortable.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: And if you're not careful, I could easily take a nap there.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Like getting to one of the Andorra Adirondack chairs, that was hard.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: Um, and then just because of weather, just like take a nap.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: And I honestly felt that way, almost that strong beer, because I just got to a point where I was feeling really good and just like you catch a breeze from time to time.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: And then if you're in the shade, that breeze feels 10 times better.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: So I at one point was almost like, you know what?
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go like I'm gonna go off into a corner, set a timer, you know, for half an hour, come back, check on me, gosh, and just leave me here.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Like I'm legit gonna lay under this tree and just and enjoy the shade and the weather and just the atmosphere, and just like take it in.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: I I probably would have gotten left behind.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: And you guys would have been at Trevor's and I would have been waken up by security poking me.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: And then I just I don't know, have to figure it out from there, I guess.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: I gotta say though, that a uh what was it like a 55-mile Uber ride out to Scottsdale?
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Um, is still cheaper than a DUI.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: So we were very careful.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: Yes, always take an Uber for whatever it is.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: It's always it's now worth the risk.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: Or Lyft or whatever, yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: D ride service.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: What do you call it?
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: The designated driver.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Whatever, right, right.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Just find yourself a driver or do some sort of ride share.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Um, but so going back to Trevor's, um, the the slice of pizza that I did have, like you said, sometimes you know, you do get those pizzas that do tend to get a little bit soggy, regardless.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know if it's just because it sits there just a little too long and before it gets out to the table.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: Or maybe it's too thin at the bottom.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: But like I I remember just picking it up and just, you know, my cheese just kind of schlipping off.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: Um, and just kind of having a hard a hard time with it.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Um just kind of like, oh, this is like pizza shouldn't be this difficult um to eat.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: So I just remember eating probably about two-thirds, if that, of it.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: And then I just kind of gave up because I was like, this is too much work.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: You ate two thirds, I ate two slices.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, they had the like I said, I was just I was I was one happy camper, to use my language.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: But like honestly, I I could not even tell you what else is on their menu um other than pizza.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: Because anytime that we've been there, that's all we ever had.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm sure they have to serve like salad, you know.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: Sandwiches probably yeah, I'm sure they have many other delicious things, but we we go there, we know that their pizza is gonna be good, and that's what we've had 100% of the time, every time that we've been there, and we've been there about a handful at least of times.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Um, never had a bad experience.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: Uh the last one, I wouldn't call it a bad, it was just a little rough.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: Um, but service, service has always been amazing.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: Our waitress, she was very polite, very the small little hiccup that we ran into.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: She was quick, she was on it.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: She, you know, didn't give us the stink eye like some places tend to do, and they're just kind of like, you're just trying to get free food, or you know, um, never once made us feel that way.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: She was very on it, very apologetic, and you know, was very, very gracious.
- 33:47SPEAKER_03: She was a great server.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: Um what else?
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: It was just a just a really good experience.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh being in there in the cigar lounge, I mean, they have comfort comfortable seating everywhere, couches, and uh honestly, it was just very relaxing.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Even those tables, I mean, they had set up there so we could have a pizza, we could sit back down on the couches.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was just a really comfortable place to be.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: And I'm glad you bring that up because I did, I I did forget to mention um, and I wanted to is that yes, in the cigar lounge, you can order food in there as well and have it dropped off in there because they do have seating around the edges where it's like a bench seating with some little chairs that you can pull up to the on the opposite end of the little round table where you can go and eat.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Um, so you can eat in there as well and have a cigar.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: So that I do appreciate because sometimes you don't want to be out there um with everybody who's not smoking a cigar because sometimes somebody's kids are out there screaming and crying and not as happy as they were.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: But they do have like restaurant seating also, just like normal.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: True.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, and then for those of you that do golf, they do have a golf simulator in there as well.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Um, it's and I don't know anything about it, but it's like this big giant screen, this screen, and then you're just whacking the the golf ball into it, and it looks like a lot of fun.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: I just oh yeah, we're we're not the most skilled golfer.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: So well I mean it depends, it all depends on how much time you you want to spend there, but I just figure like, do I want to be terrible at whacking a golf ball into the simulator or go into the cigar lounge and enjoy myself where I know I'm not gonna make a complete ass out of myself.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: So I usually try to go with the the latter of the two.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: But sometimes it ends up being 50-50.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: So yeah, but honestly, it was a great Valentine's Day, and uh it was got to spend it together, and I'm yeah, we're kind of doing that every year.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: So we have to do two of our favorite things um beer and food.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Yep, drink, eat, and be together.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: All right, but uh again, rent house, this one right here, solid beer.
