- 0:00Yeah, disappointing. Um, anytime you
- 0:03lose, you're disappointed. But, you
- 0:04know, we've been playing pretty well.
- 0:05And, uh, I I I don't think we played
- 0:08great today, but I want to first
- 0:09obviously credit Auburn. I thought they
- 0:10took the fight to us today, and that's
- 0:12something that we take a lot of pride in
- 0:13doing. Uh, we we've been pretty
- 0:15consistent with that over the last
- 0:16couple weeks. Uh, you know, throwing the
- 0:18first punch and the majority of the
- 0:19punches. I thought the first half, uh,
- 0:22they they just were better than us that
- 0:24way. Uh, quicker to balls, more
- 0:26physical, did a great job on the glass.
- 0:28We were down six on the glass at
- 0:29halftime. Obviously, Keshan Hall had an
- 0:31incredible individual performance in the
- 0:33first half offensively. U sometimes you
- 0:36got to tip your cap that way. We didn't
- 0:37do a good enough job guarding his three
- 0:39or keeping them off the line. Um but you
- 0:41know, I just feel like with it's a long
- 0:44season, there's you know, ups and downs
- 0:46and and we've been through a lot uh of
- 0:48those already this season. I think you
- 0:49know, this team and obviously it starts
- 0:51with me. anytime, you know, you get to a
- 0:53point where you think you got things
- 0:55rolling a little bit and the moment you
- 0:57feel like they're on the right track,
- 0:58you get you get punched in the mouth.
- 1:00And that's what happened to us today.
- 1:01So, uh, again, credit to Auburn. We we
- 1:04got some things we got to we got to
- 1:05clean up, uh, before we get on the road
- 1:07to South Carolina next week.
- 1:08>> Tommy kind of insinuated that some of
- 1:10the respect that this team has gotten
- 1:12from the national media may have
- 1:14impacted them from a complacency
- 1:15standpoint. Have you sensed that? And
- 1:17how do you, you know, given you faced
- 1:19that in the past, how do you correct
- 1:20that going forward? Yeah, you know, I
- 1:22think it's uh it was a little human
- 1:25nature in the sense of, you know, I
- 1:26thought we had great prep after the LCU
- 1:28game. We're pretty consistent in the way
- 1:30we go about uh you know, the things we
- 1:32do in our program. Thought we had a good
- 1:33practice yesterday. I thought we were
- 1:34locked in this morning. So, um you know,
- 1:38maybe that showed up when we started the
- 1:40game. You know, just, hey, we're out
- 1:41here, we got a great crowd. You know,
- 1:43things are just going to go our way. And
- 1:45they certainly didn't in the first half.
- 1:46And again, it was similar to Missouri
- 1:48last year here at home. Um, you know,
- 1:50there there's a lot of really good teams
- 1:51in this league. Auburn's one of them.
- 1:52They got really good talent and um, we
- 1:54pride ourselves on being the mentally
- 1:55and physically tougher team. I don't
- 1:57think we were either of those tonight.
- 1:58And again, we did not respond quickly
- 2:01enough to their, you know, their early
- 2:02punches and we we just couldn't get back
- 2:05on track in the first half.
- 2:06>> What disappointed you the most about
- 2:08today's game?
- 2:09>> That we lost.
- 2:12What do you uh what do you uh credit
- 2:14Auburn for for being able to just stop
- 2:17Alex tonight?
- 2:19>> Yeah, I thought you know they did a good
- 2:21Well, they they had a different game
- 2:22plan um than most teams. They just
- 2:24weren't guarding him on the perimeter uh
- 2:26plugging up the paint. Obviously, he's
- 2:27not shooting the ball great right now
- 2:29and uh weren't able to take advantage of
- 2:31that. I I was more disappointed with our
- 2:32inability to get him down low. Um but
- 2:34they were showing bodies anytime we
- 2:36threw it inside. Uh you know, again,
- 2:39where where his game disappointed me was
- 2:40the four turnovers. You're not going to
- 2:42score it every night. Not going to be
- 2:44great that way, but but you can't turn
- 2:46the ball over four times when when
- 2:47you're a guy that we run a majority of
- 2:48our offense through. And he just got
- 2:50outplayed tonight.
- 2:51>> You you tied the game at 62. And did you
- 2:54expend so much energy getting to that
- 2:56point that there was just a let down
- 2:58afterwards?
- 2:59>> Yeah, I think that was a big part of it
- 3:00and dug ourselves an 18, you know, uh 18
- 3:04point deficit. crawled all the way back
- 3:06to take a two-point lead. You know, get
- 3:07a tough reversal on the on the goend and
- 3:10um you know, it just they made a couple
- 3:12tough shots after that, but we had dug
- 3:14ourselves too big of a hole. Uh the
- 3:16defense in the first half and obviously
- 3:18the free throw shooting, you know, as I
- 3:19explained to the team, if we had made
- 3:21our free throws at a decent rate up
- 3:23until that point, instead of it going
- 3:25from two to being tied with their ball,
- 3:26it would have been from six to four and
- 3:28we can still play with a little bit of a
- 3:29lead and a little bit of confidence. Um,
- 3:31but yeah, I do think a big part of it
- 3:32was the fact that we had to expend so
- 3:34much energy getting back in the ball
- 3:35game.
- 3:36>> What were some offensive adjustments
- 3:38that you may have made
- 3:41into the second half?
- 3:44>> Again, we we had to value the basketball
- 3:46a little more. U I thought we didn't do
- 3:47a good enough job uh down on the block
- 3:50of of handling the double teams and the
- 3:51digs. We didn't shoot the ball well
- 3:53enough. Uh there there were a number of
- 3:54things that we had to clean up, you
- 3:56know, from the first half. Um and again,
- 3:58in the second half, we did a decent job
- 4:00that way. We turned it over less. Uh,
- 4:02you know, I thought we were playing with
- 4:03a little more purpose, but we still
- 4:04missed some open shots and we miss our
- 4:05free throws.
- 4:07>> What do you think you can learn from a
- 4:10team like Auburn? Like packing the paint
- 4:11as much as they did today and how can
- 4:13you carry that forward if teams kind of
- 4:14try to implement that?
- 4:15>> Yeah, we got to find ways to counteract
- 4:17it and do a better better job of uh, you
- 4:19know, taking advantage of being wide
- 4:21open, you know, on the perimeter and
- 4:22wide open in the middle of the floor.
- 4:23Uh, you know, I think that's going to be
- 4:25a hard way to live for teams to play us
- 4:27that way. Um, I think more often than
- 4:29not we're going to be able to take
- 4:30advantage of that better than we did
- 4:31today. But again, they're quick, they're
- 4:33long, um, and they did a good job, you
- 4:35know, counteracting our bigs inside
- 4:37today.
- 4:39>> 17 in this game. How, you know,
- 4:41problematic was that?
- 4:42>> We had 11.
- 4:44>> Yeah.
- 4:46>> Um, yeah, I mean, we we did a decent
- 4:48enough job taking care of the
- 4:49basketball. I think the biggest thing
- 4:51was the free throws. Um, you know, we
- 4:53left some points on the board, missed
- 4:54some open shots when we needed to. And
- 4:56again, our first half effort on Keshan
- 4:58Hall, uh, you know, I think it was he
- 5:00deserves a lot of credit for the shots
- 5:02that he was making, but we we have to
- 5:03find a way to prevent him from getting
- 5:0523 in the first half. Now, he did a
- 5:07better job in the second half. He only
- 5:08scored one, so we were capable. Uh, we
- 5:11just didn't do a good enough job showing
- 5:12bodies, going vertical, sent him to the
- 5:14line, and gave him threes in the first
- 5:15half. something.
