- 2:21Speaker 1: here and.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Lines it in the center field.
- 2:23Speaker 1: It will trot for a a hit and it will
- 2:26Speaker 1: drive in two runs. How about the freshman Jonah Williams.
- 2:30Speaker 1: He has his first career hit, then his first career
- 2:34Speaker 1: two hit game, and his first three RBIs two there

- 3:31Speaker 1: Faunk Field, the Texas Longhorns eight, the Auburn Tigers three.
- 3:37Speaker 1: From UFCU Dishfunk Field. It's the Texas log Horns against
- 3:41Speaker 1: the Auburn Tigers in the finale of the three game
- 3:44Speaker 1: weekend series. The pitch swung on in a ground ball
- 3:48Speaker 1: hit and off the glove of a third basement snow.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It'll score the run. Gasparino's safe at first. Ryland Galvon
- 3:55Speaker 1: scores from third and the game is tied at one.
- 3:58Speaker 1: A one ball, one strength pitch swum onto the ball
- 4:01Speaker 1: hit well up toward lamp.
- 4:03Speaker 2: You can say good night to this one.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Kimball's Shustler's second home run of the weekend, a monstrous
- 4:11Speaker 1: blast beyond the left field fence, and the log Horns
- 4:15Speaker 1: take a four to one lead. For Rodriguez. It was
- 4:19Speaker 1: one out of three in the Thursday night opener. Swings
- 4:22Speaker 1: to the verse bitch and he hits this ball well,
- 4:24Speaker 1: this one out to deep center, back to the warning
- 4:27Speaker 1: track and off the top of the wall. Rodriguez will
- 4:29Speaker 1: stop at second base. Four consecutive hits. Actually, they're gonna
- 4:36Speaker 1: call it a round tripper. Yep, hit it hit the
- 4:40Speaker 1: back wall. That's a home run.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Kimball.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Schusler hits a home run, and now Adrian Rodriguez comes
- 4:47Speaker 1: up with a home run.
- 4:48Speaker 2: It hit the back.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Wall, and the Lawgorns now lead at five to one.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Swum on in. That's lying down the left field line.
- 4:56Speaker 2: That's fair in the corner. It'll score two runs.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Kimball shoes where another extra base hit, his fourteenth double
- 5:04Speaker 1: in the year, drives in two more and extends the
- 5:07Speaker 1: Texas lead to seven to one. The sec swing on
- 5:09Speaker 1: and that's three on the left side of a hip.
- 5:11Speaker 1: One run scores. Wave to the plate. Here comes John
- 5:14Speaker 1: of Williams. He slides, he is safe, the ball so
- 5:19Speaker 1: popped out of the mits and Williams speeding home. A
- 5:22Speaker 1: two run single from Ryland Galvan, and it's a nine
- 5:25Speaker 1: to one Texas League. Here's the two zero swung on.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The ball hit well out toward left. If it stays fair,
- 5:31Speaker 1: it's gone.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It is fair. And it is gone. Two run homer
- 5:37Speaker 2: for Casey Borba.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Here's a stretch from Jet Johnston first pitch to Shusler,
- 5:43Speaker 1: swings here and hits a fly ball well out toward left.
- 5:46Speaker 1: This one back to the warning track. Say good night
- 5:48Speaker 1: to it. This ball game is over. I don't know
- 5:53Speaker 1: what else is going on around the SEC, but I
- 5:55Speaker 1: can tell you one thing. Kimball's Shustler is as deserving
- 6:00Speaker 1: is anybody in the conference for being SEC Player of
- 6:04Speaker 1: the Week.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It's a two.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Run game ending walk off homer and the Loghorns run
- 6:11Speaker 1: rule the Auburn Tigers and Kimball Schuschler was rewarded for
- 6:19Speaker 1: his efforts over the weekend. Good afternoon, everybody, Welcome to
- 6:23Speaker 1: the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
- 6:26Speaker 1: My name is Craig Waite, Thanks for joining us. Highlight
- 6:29Speaker 1: montage so its spurtly crafted by the producer of this program,
- 6:35Speaker 1: Cameron D.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Parker.
- 6:36Speaker 1: The D on the burst of certificate stands for Dallas,
- 6:40Speaker 1: as in his favorite pro football team that he's giving
- 6:44Speaker 1: the cold shoulder to these days for their misadventures and misdeeds.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But the D could stand for any number of other things.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I'm not sure what other than the fact that the
- 6:57Speaker 1: Long Worners have delivered again another sweep as they sit
- 7:01Speaker 1: on top of the SEC baseball standings.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And I think for the first time and I don't
- 7:06Speaker 3: know how many weeks, the number one team in college
- 7:07Speaker 3: baseball is the same number one as it was last
- 7:10Speaker 3: week because it's been so much overhaul the top of
- 7:12Speaker 3: the rankings as Texas has slowly climbed their way up
- 7:15Speaker 3: to number one. And after a perfect week including a
- 7:19Speaker 3: sweep of one of the hotter teams in the country
- 7:21Speaker 3: and the eighth ranked Dobin Tigers. What a weekend series
- 7:25Speaker 3: for the Texas long Gorns and now a real fun
- 7:28Speaker 3: one in Santa Marcus tomorrow night against Texas State. That's
- 7:30Speaker 3: always the labored action, that excellent baseball. And then I
- 7:34Speaker 3: forkid who's coming in next Oh, the Texas and m
- 7:38Speaker 3: agus well for their first conference series and quite some time.
- 7:42Speaker 3: They are playing just as good as anybody else in
- 7:44Speaker 3: the country.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah they are.
- 7:45Speaker 1: They took two out of three from Arkansas in Fayetteville
- 7:50Speaker 1: over the weekend, and it's there's going to be There
- 7:54Speaker 1: was going to be great anticipation of the series. Even
- 7:58Speaker 1: if A and M would start a Conference play one
- 8:01Speaker 1: and nine. They were one and nine in SEC play,
- 8:04Speaker 1: but they've now won seven of their last eight SEC games,
- 8:07Speaker 1: so they're eight and ten coming in and realistically, all
- 8:11Speaker 1: kinds of crazy things would have to happen for them
- 8:13Speaker 1: to be a contender to win the conference time, but
- 8:15Speaker 1: the mere fact that they flipped the script is kind
- 8:17Speaker 1: of put them back in the minds of people doing
- 8:21Speaker 1: projections and will run down some of those coming up.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But the mere fact that they're hot and they're playing well,
- 8:28Speaker 1: that just adds to that. As as Cameron mentioned, Long
- 8:30Speaker 1: Orange will play Texas State.
- 8:32Speaker 2: That's there.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Only road midweek non conference game is tomorrow night at
- 8:40Speaker 1: Bob cap Ballpark in San Marcus at say five forty
- 8:43Speaker 1: five pre game star time. It is a six o'clock
- 8:45Speaker 1: first pitch, which we will have for you on one
- 8:48Speaker 1: o three point one FM, and so that'll be tomorrow.
- 8:51Speaker 2: More on that a little bit later.
- 8:54Speaker 1: There's a lot of things to get to and then
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'm going to roll it back to college baseball after
- 8:59Speaker 1: our first break, but there's a lot of things to
- 9:01Speaker 1: get to. NBA playoffs are underway. I would say you
- 9:04Speaker 1: had to be pleased with a fifty one point margin
- 9:07Speaker 1: of victory for your team, the Oklahoma City Thunder and
- 9:11Speaker 1: laying the Memphis Grizzlies to waste yesterday afternoon.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Playoff record largest game one victory in NBA history, and
- 9:18Speaker 3: there are seven points away from the largest playoff victory
- 9:22Speaker 3: overall in NBA history. And you know, I'll say this, Craig,
- 9:25Speaker 3: the Grizzlies played two playing games. They went from Memphis
- 9:29Speaker 3: to Golden State to Dallas up the Oka C so
- 9:32Speaker 3: they played three games in what ninety six hours.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And they got the host Dallas. But that's still what's
- 9:36Speaker 1: going along Memphis back to Yea to Memphis, then a
- 9:40Speaker 1: lot of travel. You could tell they were just tired,
- 9:42Speaker 1: dead legs, weren't ready for it. But all in all,
- 9:45Speaker 1: pretty embarrassing that a professional basketball team in the playoffs
- 9:50Speaker 1: loses like that. But hey, it's a testament to okac's
- 9:54Speaker 1: depth and coaching. I mean, shake Gilders Alexander, who might
- 9:57Speaker 1: be the MVP this year. At least he was named
- 10:01Speaker 1: to the top three finalists. He played awfully, he made
- 10:03Speaker 1: four shots from the floor in okase. He's still won
- 10:07Speaker 1: by fifty one points, So that kind of tells you
- 10:09Speaker 1: how scary and how deep this OKAC team is and
- 10:12Speaker 1: I think after watching the weekend of basketball, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I feel a little bit better about their chances of
- 10:18Speaker 1: making it to the NBA Finals and certainly contending. We'll
- 10:21Speaker 1: see what happens with Jason tatum'sself and the Boston Celtics.
- 10:25Speaker 1: That was a tight game all the way up to
- 10:28Speaker 1: about the third quarter in Boston able to use their
- 10:30Speaker 1: depth to run away from it.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So we'll see about Tatum's risks. Hopefully he's okay. But
- 10:34Speaker 3: you know, Lakers did not look good defensive Timberwolves.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Which result was more surprising to you last night or
- 10:42Speaker 1: over the weekend Lakers Timberwolves or last night's Rockets Warriors?
- 10:49Speaker 3: I would say Lakers t Wolves. I mean it's the
- 10:51Speaker 3: first playoff game for the Rockets, a really young team,
- 10:54Speaker 3: you know, hosting Golden State, and Steph Curry, you know,
- 10:57Speaker 3: had a crazy game and if not for STI being
- 11:00Speaker 3: Steph Houston, you know, almost came back and won that game.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I think for me, I was more surprised by the
- 11:04Speaker 3: t Wolves and Lakers because the Wolves were just so
- 11:07Speaker 3: much more physical and looks so much more athletic than
- 11:10Speaker 3: the Lakers. Had A buddy text me that Luka Doncia's
- 11:13Speaker 3: defense is like the Golden Corral. It's always open. Yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 3: and that's how it was. I mean, Luca just looked awful.
- 11:18Speaker 3: He looked lost offensively, just lack of effort there. And
- 11:21Speaker 3: that series will probably go seven. I could see Rockets
- 11:24Speaker 3: Warriors going seven, but I think both teams who lost
- 11:28Speaker 3: Game one will turn it around in this series. I
- 11:31Speaker 3: don't know though, I don't know if they'll come back
- 11:33Speaker 3: and win it. But if I'm a Rockets fan, I
- 11:35Speaker 3: feel okay about our chances. And if you're a Lakers fans,
- 11:38Speaker 3: you know you still got Lebron and Luke. They're gonna
- 11:40Speaker 3: have a game where they're gonna figure it out offensively
- 11:42Speaker 3: and they'll be okay.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, all right. We'll have more on the NBA playoffs.
- 11:46Speaker 1: We are three days away from the NFL Draft, and
- 11:49Speaker 1: of course we have our annual big draft show coming
- 11:52Speaker 1: away from Twin Peaks and Round Rock will be there
- 11:55Speaker 1: on Thursday.
- 11:56Speaker 2: We're gonna be there, what two to six fifty if
- 11:58Speaker 2: I were six fifty, So.
- 12:00Speaker 1: We're there all the way up to at the time
- 12:02Speaker 1: when the draft is just on the cusp of getting underway.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But we'll set the table for you as we always do,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and we'll have the whole crew out there on Thursday.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So we'll look forward to being there for you with
- 12:15Speaker 1: at Twin Peaks around Rock. Also this week coming up,
- 12:20Speaker 1: like I said, tomorrow, I will be at Bob cap
- 12:23Speaker 1: Ballpark in sam Marcus Keith Mortal will be with me.
- 12:27Speaker 2: We have we have the Zimbel hours tomorrow, right okay.
- 12:30Speaker 1: All right, and I will I will check in with
- 12:32Speaker 1: a six man Keith and I will check in. So
- 12:34Speaker 1: that's tomorrow, Wednesday, Long WRNS hit Football Court. Steve Sarkishian
- 12:38Speaker 1: will be on with us right out of the gate,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and so sark will be with us to wrap up
- 12:45Speaker 1: spring practice and to look ahead to the offseason work.
- 12:48Speaker 1: So we'll visit with Sark on Wednesday. Thursday's the Draft Show. Friday,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I'll be out at UFCU dish Fog Field with the
- 12:55Speaker 1: lead into Texas against Texas A and M. We have
- 12:59Speaker 1: in conceit eievable coming up this hour. We've got some
- 13:03Speaker 1: Major League baseball to talk about. What a good series
- 13:06Speaker 1: and I'm not just saying as a Dodger fan, what
- 13:07Speaker 1: a good series it was between the Dodgers and Rangers
- 13:09Speaker 1: of the weekend. Three really well pitched, well played, hotly
- 13:17Speaker 1: contested games between those two and the Astros seem to
- 13:22Speaker 1: becoming the life now as you know, they've been good
- 13:28Speaker 1: of late, although Fernando Tatisse had his way yesterday with
- 13:31Speaker 1: a pitch.
- 13:32Speaker 2: But we'll talk some Major League baseball.
- 13:35Speaker 1: All of that stuff is underway, and we'll get to
- 13:37Speaker 1: all of that coming up up next, the recap of
- 13:40Speaker 1: the weekend in college baseball and where it stands in
- 13:44Speaker 1: terms where the long runs are on the national scene
- 13:47Speaker 1: and the SEC weekly awards, all of that kind of stuff.
- 13:50Speaker 1: It's all just around the corner here on thirteen under
- 13:53Speaker 1: the Zone.
- 13:55Speaker 4: It's the craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 13:58Speaker 4: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Broadcast.
- 14:00Speaker 2: There Craig Way.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Beginning a new week, coming off an action packed weekend,
- 14:13Speaker 1: obviously NBA Playoffs, Major League Baseball pretty busy, and obviously
- 14:19Speaker 1: college baseball and softball. How about the weekend for Texas
- 14:22Speaker 1: softball having that crazy went on Thursday with the walk
- 14:28Speaker 1: off grand Slam from Resatwood on Thursday, dropped the game Friday,
- 14:35Speaker 1: came back Saturday, they were down three to one. Jolie
- 14:39Speaker 1: Mitchell with a three run homer in the bottom of
- 14:43Speaker 1: the sixth to put Texas up four to three on
- 14:45Speaker 1: the LSU. LSU comes back scores too in the top
- 14:48Speaker 1: of the seventh, and they get to the bottom of
- 14:50Speaker 1: the seventh and the long runs continue attack and Kate
- 14:54Speaker 1: Henry scores the winning run just coming all the way
- 14:56Speaker 1: around from second on a round ball come backer into
- 15:02Speaker 1: the circle that Mia Scott was able to beat out
- 15:05Speaker 1: into the circle and then the throw to the plate
- 15:07Speaker 1: not in time and it popped out of the mit
- 15:09Speaker 1: and Texas takes two out of three, So it was
- 15:11Speaker 1: it was pretty cool weekend for them. Texas men's tennis,
- 15:15Speaker 1: congratulations winning an SEC championship, the SEC tournament title in
- 15:20Speaker 1: addition of the regular season title for Texas Men's tennis.
- 15:27Speaker 2: So that's that's cool.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Tower was lit orange last night, so that was that
- 15:31Speaker 1: was a good thing there as in their first season
- 15:34Speaker 1: the SEC, they're doing really well. Beach volleyball swept through
- 15:38Speaker 1: the weekend. They did well, which brings us to baseball
- 15:42Speaker 1: and this team continues to perform in spite of the
- 15:48Speaker 1: injuries that they have had to deal with mainly mainly
- 15:53Speaker 1: not exclusively or entirely, but mainly through the position players.
- 15:59Speaker 1: We know about Max Blue and the and the thumb
- 16:01Speaker 1: injury and the stitches are out as as Jim Slosna mentioned,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and he's he's making progress and they're hoping certainly to
- 16:14Speaker 1: have him back by SEC tournament time.
- 16:18Speaker 2: That that's kind of the timetable.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Other guys have healed quicker and so maybe there's an
- 16:24Speaker 1: outside hope that he could be ready to say by
- 16:30Speaker 1: that final series of the regular season in Norman against Oklahoma.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Don't know that yet. It'll just depend on his continued
- 16:37Speaker 1: ready to recovery. So he is still out of the lineup.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Adrian Rodriguez is back in the lineup, as we know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: came back last week, only able to He's a switch hitter,
- 16:50Speaker 1: only able to swing the bat left handed right now
- 16:53Speaker 1: because of that hammate a demon that he had that
- 17:00Speaker 1: that bone bruise, bad bone bruise right on top of
- 17:04Speaker 1: the hammock forcing Fortunately it did not break the bone.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:10Speaker 1: He is able to play the field now, and so
- 17:13Speaker 1: he has played at second base and he's playing left
- 17:16Speaker 1: field and he has d eight some So he's back
- 17:19Speaker 1: uh and and playing again, although he's not at full
- 17:23Speaker 1: tilt because he's not able to swing the bat right handed,
- 17:26Speaker 1: but he is able to swing the bat left handed.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Uh then uh whom I leaving out?
- 17:39Speaker 1: Thank you Mendoza who injured a shoulder a week ago
- 17:46Speaker 1: yesterday in the final game of the series of Kentucky.
- 17:49Speaker 1: And it was a shoulder injury that he had originally
- 17:51Speaker 1: had in high school while playing at South Lake. Carolyn
- 17:54Speaker 1: had surgery on it, and Ethan uh missed out on
- 18:00Speaker 1: some action. He is back in the lineup swinging the bat,
- 18:03Speaker 1: but he's going to have to serve as the DH
- 18:05Speaker 1: for a time because the shoulder is not healed enough
- 18:08Speaker 1: to where he can throw with it yet, So he
- 18:12Speaker 1: goes into the D eight slot because you need his
- 18:15Speaker 1: bat in the lineup. So it still opened up holes
- 18:21Speaker 1: in the outfield and infield. Now Jamee Deplantier is a
- 18:25Speaker 1: guy who can swing back and forward wherever you need him.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But as you heard in the highlight montage at the
- 18:32Speaker 1: top of the show, and what has been the talk
- 18:35Speaker 1: of the rest of the weekend starting on Saturday, starting
- 18:38Speaker 1: on Friday, in the Friday and Saturday games and that
- 18:41Speaker 1: Thursday Friday Saturday series is the emergence of Jonah Williams.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Jonah had played had been in I think he'd had
- 18:52Speaker 1: two official at bats and there was one walk in there,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but he didn't have a collegiate hit.
- 18:55Speaker 2: He'd been used very sparingly.
- 18:57Speaker 1: So we got his first collegiate start on Friday, he
- 19:01Speaker 1: got his first two collegiate hits, and so that was cool.
- 19:08Speaker 2: And then comes back with a couple of.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Hits on Saturday and drives in three runs, played well
- 19:14Speaker 1: en off the outfield, aggressive on the base pass, round
- 19:17Speaker 1: a third, and came in home on a soft base
- 19:21Speaker 1: hit to center. So there was a great deal of
- 19:24Speaker 1: excitement about that. So he now, at least in Jim
- 19:29Speaker 1: Slasnegel's words for the foreseeable future is the way the
- 19:33Speaker 1: words were framed is the starter in left field. So
- 19:39Speaker 1: they're stepping up in that area and that has helped
- 19:41Speaker 1: a lot. Now, the other unfortunate thing, this is why
- 19:44Speaker 1: I said it wasn't entirely the position players, but predominantly
- 19:49Speaker 1: is Jared Spencer because they're waiting on some more of
- 19:51Speaker 1: medical evaluation from him. Jared started the game on Thursday,
- 19:55Speaker 1: had to come out of the ball game after only
- 19:56Speaker 1: forty three pitches, felt some soreness in the army. He
- 20:01Speaker 1: was coming back one day early. So in talking to
- 20:09Speaker 1: Schloss about this, he said, it wasn't like one of
- 20:13Speaker 1: those alarming things where he felder we all heard a
- 20:17Speaker 1: pop or.
- 20:18Speaker 2: A snap or anything like that. There was nothing like that.
- 20:21Speaker 1: He was just going along and he'd given up home
- 20:23Speaker 1: run and then came back to the next hitter and
- 20:27Speaker 1: was working. But they could tell with all of their
- 20:30Speaker 1: metrics and all of their technology his VLO was down,
- 20:36Speaker 1: not significantly, but down a few miles per hour. So
- 20:39Speaker 1: then they went out to visit with him. He said
- 20:42Speaker 1: he felt a little sore. They didn't want to take
- 20:43Speaker 1: any other chances, and they pulled him out of the
- 20:45Speaker 1: game and then piecemealed it from there. Max Scrubs did
- 20:48Speaker 1: a tremendous job, and then Dylan Lantis got the save
- 20:53Speaker 1: or finished it out. Yeah, he did get the save
- 20:56Speaker 1: on Thursday. Did a great job, did Grubbs. But the
- 21:01Speaker 1: concern obviously will be for Jared Spencer until they hear more,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and Schlas said he couldn't really right now envision him
- 21:14Speaker 1: pitching this weekend against Texas and him they are going
- 21:16Speaker 1: to air on the side of caution whenever possible with
- 21:21Speaker 1: their guys. So Spencer in a likelihood won't be on
- 21:26Speaker 1: the mound this weekend. And what that also means is
- 21:30Speaker 1: it brings about a flip in the rotation. There will
- 21:33Speaker 1: be there will be other things done in the rotation.
- 21:36Speaker 1: That's why when Ruger ri Ojas started the game on
- 21:38Speaker 1: Saturday and was dominant through the three innings, only pitched
- 21:44Speaker 1: three innings. He did give up the one home run
- 21:46Speaker 1: like Iris, just you know, he teed off on everybody.
- 21:51Speaker 1: If it had not been for Shustler and by the way,
- 21:54Speaker 1: the guy who's going to be the co player of
- 21:56Speaker 1: the week in the SEC, we'll tell you about that
- 21:58Speaker 1: coming up. It hadn't been for those two guys, Ike
- 22:01Speaker 1: Irish would have been the SEC player of the week.
- 22:03Speaker 2: He had, he had a weekend.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It's just that Shustler out shining him there in the
- 22:07Speaker 1: final in the final day of it. So you know,
- 22:12Speaker 1: Grubs pitch pitched well. Rugery Ohas pitched well, but he
- 22:18Speaker 1: only pitched only through thirty eight pitches. That is because
- 22:21Speaker 1: the plan will be to move him forward in the
- 22:24Speaker 1: rotation from the third weekend starter, either to the second
- 22:27Speaker 1: or the first. If I were guessing right now, I'd
- 22:29Speaker 1: say depending on how he responds again.
- 22:31Speaker 2: The only three thirty eight pitches.
- 22:33Speaker 1: He might be in line to be the Friday starter
- 22:37Speaker 1: Friday night against Texas A and and with Luke Harrison going
- 22:39Speaker 1: Saturday and probably Jason Flores on Sunday, that's kind of
- 22:43Speaker 1: how it would seem to set up right now.
- 22:46Speaker 2: We'll know more.
- 22:47Speaker 1: We'll know more after Tomorrow night's game against Texas State.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Kate Bing will start tomorrow and we'll just we'll just
- 22:54Speaker 1: kind of see who else works and things of that nature.
- 22:56Speaker 1: So that's where that is, Okay, than the SEC Players
- 23:05Speaker 1: of the Week we were announced, and you heard me
- 23:10Speaker 1: say in the in the highlights that I don't know
- 23:17Speaker 1: what else who else is doing, you know whatever else
- 23:22Speaker 1: in terms of the individual exploits over the weekend, but
- 23:28Speaker 1: that that Kimball Schusler was as deserving as anybody was
- 23:36Speaker 1: four Player of the Week, and sure enough, Kimball Schuschler
- 23:41Speaker 1: did win Player of the Week.
- 23:42Speaker 2: He won co Player of the Week. There was a
- 23:46Speaker 2: tie in the balloting.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Between Shustler, who hit seven fourteen over the weekend and
- 23:56Speaker 1: hit three home runs ten RBIs he had eight yesterday.
- 24:00Speaker 1: He reached safely in thirteen of his seventeen played appearances,
- 24:05Speaker 1: with four multi hit efforts going back to the Tuesday
- 24:08Speaker 1: game against UTRGV, and then of course had the two
- 24:12Speaker 1: homer eight RBI performance yesterday with the run roll win
- 24:14Speaker 1: over Auburn. He also had a two run double in
- 24:18Speaker 1: there with a pair of three run homers, including the
- 24:21Speaker 1: game ending shot. Okay, but he's only the co player
- 24:24Speaker 1: of the week because Jace Lavalatte of Texas A and
- 24:27Speaker 1: m Loveolette hit five home runs, scored ten runs, drove
- 24:35Speaker 1: in eleven in the Aggies three in one week which
- 24:39Speaker 1: included the road series win at Arkansas. So how fitting
- 24:42Speaker 1: is it that Kimball Schusler and Jace Laviolette will go
- 24:47Speaker 1: mono almano or their teams will this weekend. They'll go
- 24:50Speaker 1: head to head this weekend. They're the players, the co
- 24:52Speaker 1: players of the week. Here's another interesting thing. The pitcher
- 24:57Speaker 1: of the week is Nick McKay of Kentucky. In seven
- 25:02Speaker 1: and two thirds innings, he only allowed two hits in
- 25:05Speaker 1: beating Tennessee and Knoxville on Saturday. This is a guy
- 25:07Speaker 1: the Longhorns finally were able to get to in the
- 25:11Speaker 1: Sunday game, and they were able to get to him
- 25:15Speaker 1: and wind up winning the ball game the two freshmen
- 25:20Speaker 1: of the week. It was co freshman Brendan Lawson of
- 25:24Speaker 1: Florida who hit four to twelve during the week, and
- 25:27Speaker 1: Drew Dickerson of Oklahoma who went hit five hundred seven
- 25:32Speaker 1: to fourteen, three extra base hits, including a home run.
- 25:34Speaker 1: So those were the SEC Player Awards. And then, as
- 25:40Speaker 1: I mentioned, where does all of this stand in terms
- 25:44Speaker 1: of the SEC and the Longhorns place. Well, not only
- 25:49Speaker 1: did Texas handle its business, there were some other teams
- 25:55Speaker 1: that stepped back a little bit further away from them,
- 26:00Speaker 1: Arkansas being one of those by losing two out of
- 26:02Speaker 1: three at home to Texas, A and M. Now the
- 26:05Speaker 1: Razorbacks are still in second place behind Texas, but the
- 26:08Speaker 1: three games back of the long runs with twelve conference
- 26:11Speaker 1: games remaining, so there's still a long way to go
- 26:13Speaker 1: in Texas obviously has to go to Fayetteville weekend after
- 26:17Speaker 1: this one, the first weekend in May a Thursday Friday
- 26:19Speaker 1: Saturday series. But Texas is sixteen and two in the league.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Arkansas is thirteen and five. Tennessee which dropped two of
- 26:28Speaker 1: three to Kentucky. And this is why when those are saying, well,
- 26:31Speaker 1: Texas really hadn't played anybody rough on the road.
- 26:35Speaker 2: They really haven't done in.
- 26:39Speaker 1: The taking two out of three in Lexington, with the
- 26:42Speaker 1: only loss being a fifteen inning game to Kentucky. That's
- 26:45Speaker 1: agent pretty well after Kentucky went to Knoxville and took
- 26:48Speaker 1: two out of three from Tennessee. As a result, Tennessee
- 26:51Speaker 1: is twelve and six. LSU took two out of three
- 26:53Speaker 1: from Alabama. Of the weekend, the Tigers are twelve and six.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Those two teams are four games back of Texas. Vanderbilder
- 26:59Speaker 1: has read high. They just got through sweeping Georgia. Next
- 27:04Speaker 1: in fifth place, they're eleven and seven. They're five games
- 27:07Speaker 1: behind the Long Horns. Georgia, after being swept by Vanderbilt,
- 27:12Speaker 1: dropped the ten and eight oh Missus ten and eight.
- 27:14Speaker 1: They dropped two of three at South Carolina. Oklahoma has
- 27:18Speaker 1: been hot and they swept Missouri. They're ten and eight
- 27:21Speaker 1: in the league. Then you have Alabama at nine and nine,
- 27:23Speaker 1: Auburn at ninety nine, Kentucky and Texas A and M
- 27:27Speaker 1: are both eight and ten. Florida won two out of three.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Assissippi State Bulldogs won yesterday's game, but both of those
- 27:33Speaker 1: teams are six and twelve. And South Carolina's four and
- 27:35Speaker 1: fourteen in Missouri is oh and eighteen in the league.
- 27:39Speaker 1: So as it stands, Texas a three game lead on
- 27:42Speaker 1: Arkansas with twelve games to go in SEC play. And
- 27:46Speaker 1: we'll talk more about that, the updated rankings, tournament projections,
- 27:50Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff a little bit later on
- 27:52Speaker 1: up next, we'll bring you inconceivable on a Monday afternoon
- 27:55Speaker 1: here on thirteen under the Zone, Craig w A alongside
- 27:57Speaker 1: the producer Cameron Parker, glad to have you with us.
- 28:00Speaker 1: How did you You stayed pretty busy during the weekend,
- 28:03Speaker 1: didn't you? You had stuff going on, right?
- 28:06Speaker 3: It was a it was a fun and inter relaxed weekend.
- 28:08Speaker 3: They will just to watch watch a lot of golf,
- 28:11Speaker 3: watch a lot of professional basketball, watch a lot of
- 28:14Speaker 3: Texas baseball.
- 28:16Speaker 2: It was a fun weekend.
- 28:17Speaker 3: And I had a couple of graduation parties for some
- 28:19Speaker 3: friends at a family in town.
- 28:20Speaker 2: So it wasn't wasn't too stressful.
- 28:24Speaker 3: You know, I get asked a lot now during this
- 28:25Speaker 3: time period, so what do you what do you do
- 28:27Speaker 3: now that you're not traveling for basketball?
- 28:30Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, you know, that's a fair question.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Usually I just you know, monitor the station and make
- 28:35Speaker 3: sure that you know, Craig and Keith sound good for
- 28:38Speaker 3: UT baseball, make sure Andrew sounds good with UT softball,
- 28:41Speaker 3: make sure that Roland Cobra is everything he needs with
- 28:44Speaker 3: the Express and Lincoln Rose with the Austin FC. So,
- 28:48Speaker 3: you know, it's kind of it's not it's still busy.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I'm not traveling across the country with you, Craig, but
- 28:55Speaker 3: you know there's still work to be I.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Just got the feeling you were probably by the time
- 28:58Speaker 1: we got done a date in Ohio, you'd probably had
- 29:00Speaker 1: enough of travel for a while for.
- 29:02Speaker 2: A little bit well.
- 29:03Speaker 1: And then of course you went with me to Birmingham obviously, Yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 1: for Women's Sweet sixteen and Laite eight, So you you
- 29:09Speaker 1: probably definitely had by the time we got done with that,
- 29:13Speaker 1: and you had, by other obligations and responsibilities, had to
- 29:17Speaker 1: come back. You couldn't and of course we all flew
- 29:21Speaker 1: back from Birmingham, but you couldn't go on to the
- 29:24Speaker 1: final four in Tampa because you had had other obligations
- 29:27Speaker 1: and responsibilities and things of that nature. But I also
- 29:29Speaker 1: have a feeling maybe by then maybe you were a
- 29:32Speaker 1: little travel weary.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, get used to the schedule, right, It's
- 29:36Speaker 3: kind of like, you know, year two, so I felt
- 29:39Speaker 3: like I was more routine adjusted for this time around.
- 29:43Speaker 3: But you know, the month of March, you know, that
- 29:45Speaker 3: was crazy for us because we you know, that kind
- 29:48Speaker 3: of really started with the first trip to Starkfield for
- 29:50Speaker 3: me with women's basketball. But then we kept getting stuck
- 29:53Speaker 3: there and so the travel wouldn't have been as bad,
- 29:56Speaker 3: but we kept that to spend an extra day, and
- 29:58Speaker 3: then you know, we came back and then we went
- 29:59Speaker 3: back and we get stuck again in Starkville. And then
- 30:02Speaker 3: from Starkville with the men's team, it was all right, Greenville,
- 30:06Speaker 3: South Carolina, then Nashville.
- 30:08Speaker 2: We also had with Old miss Yeah, in Oxford. Everything
- 30:12Speaker 2: in Mississippi. There's something going on in that state. Something
- 30:15Speaker 2: weird's happening in Mississippi.
- 30:17Speaker 3: But you know, it's it's part of the job, and
- 30:19Speaker 3: it's honestly, the travel is really fun now. Of course,
- 30:22Speaker 3: when you're waiting the tarmac and it's like, yeah, actually
- 30:24Speaker 3: we're going home. We're going back to the hotel. We're
- 30:26Speaker 3: not going home. We're going back to the hotel. We're
- 30:28Speaker 3: coming back home the next day, and it's like, oh
- 30:30Speaker 3: my goodness, which that's.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Part of it though, well, and to be fair, to
- 30:35Speaker 1: be fair to the state of Mississippi, it wasn't that
- 30:40Speaker 1: state or that airport's fault in Oxford. That was because
- 30:44Speaker 1: of fog here in Austin. I remember, we couldn't leave
- 30:47Speaker 1: because they said because of weather conditions here, and so
- 30:52Speaker 1: they weren't going to be able to leave until the
- 30:53Speaker 1: next day. And then that's when the decision was made
- 30:56Speaker 1: just to go ahead and go on to baton route.
- 30:58Speaker 2: And that's right.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Stuff happened by going to the state of Mississippi.
- 31:03Speaker 2: That did happen.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Long worn Baseball kind of squared all that up when
- 31:08Speaker 1: they when they went in there and swept that three
- 31:10Speaker 1: game series, including a double header sweep on Sunday at
- 31:15Speaker 1: Mississippi State. And even then, even then there was a
- 31:19Speaker 1: little bit of uncertainty, a little bit of nervousness because
- 31:26Speaker 1: they were worried about the length of the double header.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Because even though the airport in Starkville, I think it's
- 31:34Speaker 1: called Starkville Regional Airport, the airport is big enough, the
- 31:39Speaker 1: runways are long enough to accommodate like seven thirty seven
- 31:44Speaker 1: sized jets. That's how why and how football teams can
- 31:48Speaker 1: fly in there. Logworn football team have to fly in
- 31:50Speaker 1: there this fall, even though that's there. They closed the
- 31:57Speaker 1: airport down at nine o'clock at night on Sunday night,
- 32:01Speaker 1: and that word was made clear to the Long Run
- 32:04Speaker 1: baseball team that we're going to So you got the
- 32:06Speaker 1: double header to play, and we were starting what at
- 32:11Speaker 1: eleven am I think we were, and then it was
- 32:14Speaker 1: a double header, so you had that, or maybe it
- 32:17Speaker 1: was noon and we had a double header working, so
- 32:19Speaker 1: it was you know what was gonna It was noon,
- 32:22Speaker 1: but it was two seven inning games, so it was like,
- 32:25Speaker 1: can you get it all done in time and get
- 32:26Speaker 1: everybody there? And they did get an assist from Mississippi
- 32:29Speaker 1: State who called over the airport went hey, we throw
- 32:33Speaker 1: you guys a lot of business. How about you keep
- 32:35Speaker 1: the doors open so they can fly out, and they're
- 32:37Speaker 1: like okay, And as it turned out, the Long Run's
- 32:40Speaker 1: played so well.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Things got done pretty quickly.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I mean it was done by even before I think
- 32:46Speaker 1: seven o'clock or not long after, and so they were
- 32:48Speaker 1: able to go over to the airport and we were
- 32:50Speaker 1: wheels up before nine o'clock anyway, so it all worked
- 32:54Speaker 1: out well. So travel does have its pluses and its minuses,
- 32:59Speaker 1: and it was good to have a home weekend this
- 33:06Speaker 1: past weekend with Thursday, Friday, Saturday now as travel would
- 33:09Speaker 1: have it. Linda and I drove up to the Metroplex
- 33:12Speaker 1: on after the third game of Auburn, which we were
- 33:15Speaker 1: pleased if that was a new game. We still didn't
- 33:17Speaker 1: get out of town till about six thirty on Saturday evening.
- 33:20Speaker 1: We drove up there, had dinner in Dallas Saturday night,
- 33:25Speaker 1: and then spent yesterday with family with grandkids on both sides,
- 33:31Speaker 1: with my daughter and son in law and their four kids,
- 33:35Speaker 1: my four grandkids, and then that was in They lived
- 33:39Speaker 1: in Flower Mounts, so we met kind of in between
- 33:42Speaker 1: Dallas and Flower mount and then over the Planeo where
- 33:46Speaker 1: Linda's daughter and son in law and her grandson lived.
- 33:49Speaker 1: So we went over there and had an Easter Sunday
- 33:51Speaker 1: dinner there. Needless to say, during the course of the
- 33:54Speaker 1: day we ate more than we needed to eat, but
- 33:56Speaker 1: drove back and of course, you know Easter on day
- 34:00Speaker 1: traffic is when you're driving down the High thirty five.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it gets slow for no reason at all,
- 34:07Speaker 1: And I say, no reason, you know when so we
- 34:09Speaker 1: got bumper to bumper and I'm thinking, oh my gosh,
- 34:11Speaker 1: I guess there's been a bad rag. No just people
- 34:16Speaker 1: going slow for no reason. And it seems to happen
- 34:20Speaker 1: the most when you're going you're getting to a rise,
- 34:22Speaker 1: then you have to be a steep hill just to rise,
- 34:25Speaker 1: and people can't see immediately everything going to breaks. Then
- 34:30Speaker 1: if there's a curve and I know a lot of
- 34:32Speaker 1: you nodding your heads, like the big curve in Belting
- 34:35Speaker 1: when you're going around that curve, everybody just kind of
- 34:39Speaker 1: tenses up on that. So you know, you deal with it.
- 34:42Speaker 1: You go forward and move on to the next thing.
- 34:47Speaker 1: NBA playoffs are under it.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Who impressed you the most first day of the game Once,
- 34:54Speaker 2: I'll say, okay, see yeah, just because you know last
- 34:58Speaker 2: season the Ones the youngest team in NBA history to
- 35:02Speaker 2: be the one seed in the Western Conference, and you know,
- 35:05Speaker 2: they looked a little jittery against the Dallas Mavericks in
- 35:08Speaker 2: that second round series and just look like the moment
- 35:12Speaker 2: was too big for them. Ended up losing in six games.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Probably could have won.
- 35:16Speaker 3: I probably could have forced a game seven if not
- 35:18Speaker 3: for that huge corner. Three from from PJ. Washington, But Mavericks,
- 35:24Speaker 3: you know, they went in six, and it felt like okay.
- 35:26Speaker 3: You know a lot of times it takes at least
- 35:30Speaker 3: one one playoff for an NBA team that's super young,
- 35:35Speaker 3: takes them, you know one. You know, it took Jordan
- 35:37Speaker 3: a few years with the Bulls before they finally were
- 35:39Speaker 3: able to get over that hump. And so you know,
- 35:42Speaker 3: my question going this playoffs was is that does that
- 35:46Speaker 3: count or does OKC still need to at least prove
- 35:49Speaker 3: they can win a couple of series and then they're
- 35:51Speaker 3: gonna get their heart broken and then that'll set them
- 35:53Speaker 3: up for success later on.
- 35:55Speaker 2: But what I saw yesterday was like, now this team's
- 35:59Speaker 2: ready to go.
- 35:59Speaker 3: I mean they came out and just dominated from from
- 36:03Speaker 3: start to finish. You know, led by by thirty points
- 36:07Speaker 3: at halftime, ended up winning by fifty points. None of
- 36:10Speaker 3: the starters played in the fourth quarter, which is crazy.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Against the Grizzlies team that you know, I'm not gonna
- 36:16Speaker 3: sit here and say, hey, you know, their NBA Finals contenders.
- 36:19Speaker 3: You know they of course they fired their coach, you know,
- 36:22Speaker 3: three quarters of the way into the season. There's all
- 36:24Speaker 3: the drama with John Moran and his celebrations, whether he's
- 36:28Speaker 3: shooting in AK forty seven or throwing grenades into the crowd,
- 36:32Speaker 3: there's loss of us still, you know, still it's a
- 36:34Speaker 3: grizzly team that you know, hey two three years ago
- 36:38Speaker 3: they were the two s in the Western Conference Finals
- 36:40Speaker 3: or the Western Conference, so you know there there is
- 36:42Speaker 3: that potential for them. But for the okay, see that
- 36:44Speaker 3: come in and is completely destroy them. I mean, very
- 36:49Speaker 3: impressive for me. Now, of course, you still got to
- 36:52Speaker 3: you know, take care of them and then you will see,
- 36:54Speaker 3: you know, in the second round against whether it's the
- 36:56Speaker 3: Clippers or Denver, and he still got up, you know,
- 36:58Speaker 3: play the Western Conference Finals to get there. But I
- 37:00Speaker 3: left yesterday feeling the most impressed about the Thunder out
- 37:05Speaker 3: of any of the other teams in the first round.
- 37:08Speaker 3: I feel like with Detroit in Houston, it's two teams
- 37:12Speaker 3: just kind of like like, okay, see last season that
- 37:14Speaker 3: still have not been there before. You know, I don't
- 37:17Speaker 3: care who's playing for the next There is nothing Craig,
- 37:21Speaker 3: nothing like playing a playoff game at MSG and the
- 37:26Speaker 3: Garden was rocking in the fourth quarter to the next
- 37:29Speaker 3: twenty one nothing run. I think you kind of see
- 37:30Speaker 3: the Pistons players kind of all right, tense up a
- 37:32Speaker 3: little bit, got nervous because they were the better team
- 37:35Speaker 3: for three quarters and then the fourth quarters completely fell apart.
- 37:38Speaker 3: In the next were able to go on that twenty
- 37:39Speaker 3: one nothing run and then shut the door on Detroit.
- 37:42Speaker 3: In for Houston too, I mean at one point, they
- 37:44Speaker 3: had what like forty one points. Yeah, in the second half.
- 37:48Speaker 3: I mean, that's just so low for an NBA team.
- 37:51Speaker 3: But you know, I think they kind of you know,
- 37:53Speaker 3: Fenfleet was like oh for nine, oh for ten before
- 37:56Speaker 3: he hit that first three pointer, and Jalen Green really
- 37:59Speaker 3: struggled in that game against Golden State. Need more offense
- 38:02Speaker 3: out of him if you're a Rockets fan. But it
- 38:04Speaker 3: kind of felt like, Okay, you know, Detroit Houston two
- 38:07Speaker 3: teams that kind of just need to, you know, grow
- 38:10Speaker 3: up in the moment. Now, will they grow up in
- 38:12Speaker 3: the series or will they grow up next season? And
- 38:15Speaker 3: that's what I'm hopeful for. Okay, ses they're going to
- 38:16Speaker 3: grow up this season. Denver over the Clippers. It felt
- 38:19Speaker 3: like Denver had to win that game in overtime. Clippers
- 38:22Speaker 3: just a better team. They're up double digits for a
- 38:24Speaker 3: while and then Denver comes roaring back. You know, Westbrook
- 38:27Speaker 3: gets to clutch corner three and then Fellas get a
- 38:29Speaker 3: shot off the last player. Regulation I missed a couple
- 38:32Speaker 3: of big shots in overtime, but you know, Jokic was
- 38:34Speaker 3: just unstoppable overall. He's the best player in the planet
- 38:37Speaker 3: right now, and I think he's the serving of the
- 38:39Speaker 3: MVP Award. Even though I'm a thunder fan, I think
- 38:42Speaker 3: Jokic is by far the best player on the planet.
- 38:45Speaker 3: But for Denver, get that win is huge. I screg
- 38:48Speaker 3: I mean, I look at these series in the Western Conference,
- 38:50Speaker 3: outside of OKC Memphis, I could see all of them
- 38:52Speaker 3: going possibly six or seven.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Wow. Okay, all right, it's that close. Wow? Okay.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Well, and then in the East, I mean I thought
- 39:04Speaker 1: Boston in Cleveland were very impressive.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Yeah, say with Boston, I think Orlando's defense is good
- 39:11Speaker 3: enough to maybe win them a game or two. Again,
- 39:13Speaker 3: I'll you know, I want to see, like what's up
- 39:14Speaker 3: with Jill and Tatum's wrist will be okay, but outside
- 39:17Speaker 3: of that, their death is so big. I don't see
- 39:19Speaker 3: too much with that series. Indiana Milwaukee. Uh, I can't
- 39:23Speaker 3: believe Doc Rivers has a has a coaching job. I mean,
- 39:26Speaker 3: it was a malpractice in the first half. In that
- 39:28Speaker 3: first game, Milwaukee kind of like Memphis just looked like
- 39:32Speaker 3: they had no idea what was going on outside of
- 39:34Speaker 3: what Giannis was doing. I think Indiana wins that series,
- 39:37Speaker 3: possibly even five, maybe six, and then Cleveland Miami. You know,
- 39:40Speaker 3: that was a little bit tighter, and then Cleveland pulled
- 39:42Speaker 3: away in the fourth quarter. I think Cleveland's gonna breeze
- 39:45Speaker 3: through that series. So the only one that could really
- 39:46Speaker 3: see going seven right now in the Eastern Conference is
- 39:50Speaker 3: possibly Nick Pistons. So the Eastern Conference, they may have
- 39:53Speaker 3: all their series wrapped up well before the Western Conferences.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Interesting, Okay, all right, well I'm more on the NBA
- 39:58Speaker 1: playoffs later coming up some college baseball updated information for you,
- 40:05Speaker 1: we'll do that.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Of course, you hear from me Greg Way a lot
- 40:12Speaker 2: about thanking the companies that sponsor our program and are
- 40:17Speaker 2: partners of this show.
- 40:19Speaker 1: And one of those good friends, Tony sees Pizza and
- 40:23Speaker 1: Beer Garden at the location in round Rock by Dell Diamond.
- 40:27Speaker 1: The one I've been to a lot, probably the most
- 40:29Speaker 1: is Anderson Lane and chol Creek, and then they have
- 40:33Speaker 1: the new location down south of Kohler's Crossing. So I
- 40:37Speaker 1: really enjoy, you know, having a great slice of pizza
- 40:40Speaker 1: or a great Italian meal. If you are a business
- 40:44Speaker 1: owner and you'd like me to speak for your company,
- 40:47Speaker 1: send me an email at craig Way atiheartmedia dot com
- 40:50Speaker 1: and thanks again Tony Sees Pizza and.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Beer Garden for their partnership. Up next, we'll talk from
- 40:56Speaker 2: college baseball, and we continue on thirteen under the Zone.
- 41:15Speaker 4: Welcome back to the Craig Way Show and the Voice
- 41:18Speaker 4: of the Longhorns.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Craig Way.
- 41:20Speaker 4: Follow Craig on social media at Horn Voice Total.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Monday afternoon, coming out of the weekend here, I hope
- 42:12Speaker 1: you're Easter weekend or your weekend overall was good.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Hope it all worked out for you there.
- 42:20Speaker 1: I had mentioned that I was going to bring up
- 42:25Speaker 1: some college baseball things for you, first of all, and
- 42:28Speaker 1: we said this last hour that Texas is still obviously
- 42:35Speaker 1: on top of the SEC standings sixteen and two with
- 42:39Speaker 1: four series remaining, and there are some.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Historical comps.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I guess is the best way to describe this simple
- 42:50Speaker 1: water here, Okay, Keith Morland, Roger Wallace, Ty Harrington, those
- 43:00Speaker 1: who have worked with me on Longhorn Baseball broadcast pretty
- 43:05Speaker 1: much share the same view, and ty will join us
- 43:07Speaker 1: tomorrow when we're down in his neck of the woods
- 43:12Speaker 1: down in San marcos As, Texas will play tex say
- 43:15Speaker 1: he'll be working the telecast with Brant Freeman tomorrow evening.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Keith Morlan be working with me on the Texas radio broadcast.
- 43:23Speaker 1: But anyway, Tye and Keith and Roger and others have
- 43:29Speaker 1: largely said alive at Kendall Rogers d one baseball dot
- 43:32Speaker 1: com is pretty much said in the past, if you
- 43:38Speaker 1: have an above five hundred record in conference playing the SEC,
- 43:44Speaker 1: which the Longhorns have clinted that now.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I mean even if they lost all remaining twelve games.
- 43:48Speaker 2: They finished sixteen and fourteen.
- 43:50Speaker 1: But if you're at if you're at five hundred or above,
- 43:53Speaker 1: pretty much you're almost locke to be in an NCAA regional.
- 43:59Speaker 1: If you to in this case, it would probably be
- 44:02Speaker 1: twenty wins out of thirty, you're almost certain to be hosting.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And if you get much more beyond that, you're gonna
- 44:11Speaker 1: be a top eight national seed. So Texas is obviously
- 44:16Speaker 1: well positioned to be in that kind of situation, and
- 44:20Speaker 1: normally it's this time of year where I start looking
- 44:28Speaker 1: at projections, and I usually wait until like late April
- 44:34Speaker 1: to do this, just to kind of get a better,
- 44:39Speaker 1: you know, just a better feel for it and have
- 44:42Speaker 1: it not be.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Too Only four series left, but which is still a
- 44:46Speaker 3: lot a lot can happen.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Twelve games, twelve games. I would say this, If Texas
- 44:53Speaker 1: went six and six of the remaining twelve games, they
- 44:56Speaker 1: would have twenty two conference when they'd be twenty two
- 44:59Speaker 1: and eight conference play, I would say, and if they
- 45:03Speaker 1: they've got three non conference games left tomorrow night in
- 45:06Speaker 1: San Marcus, the following Tuesday against Prairie View, and then
- 45:10Speaker 1: the Tuesday after that against Lamar.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Lamar, by the way, pretty good ball club. They won
- 45:13Speaker 2: over thirty games.
- 45:14Speaker 1: But if they won those three games and then split
- 45:20Speaker 1: the remaining twelve, so that'd be nine more wins. They're
- 45:23Speaker 1: at thirty three and five right now, they would be
- 45:26Speaker 1: forty two and eleven going into the conference tournament. I
- 45:32Speaker 1: would say, for sure, obviously they're in the field. I
- 45:36Speaker 1: would also say they're almost for certain to be a host,
- 45:41Speaker 1: and they stand a real good chance to be a
- 45:43Speaker 1: top eight national seat. That's just if they go five
- 45:45Speaker 1: hundred the rest of the way. If they were to
- 45:47Speaker 1: say when eight of the twelve, I'd say they would
- 45:50Speaker 1: definitely be a national seed. Could they be the national seed? Well,
- 45:55Speaker 1: according to the projections right now, they are the number
- 45:59Speaker 1: one national seat. And as Cameron just pointed out, there's
- 46:03Speaker 1: still some baseball to be played.
- 46:04Speaker 2: There's twelve games for mating.
- 46:07Speaker 1: They are a unanimous number one, well unanimous among the Poles.
- 46:11Speaker 1: They're not not unanimous in the balloting, but they are
- 46:15Speaker 1: number one ranked.
- 46:17Speaker 2: I'm not talking about the projections right now.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I'm just saying that the voting polls, and they are
- 46:24Speaker 1: a consensus number one, number one in D one baseball
- 46:29Speaker 1: dot com, number one imperfect game, number one in the
- 46:35Speaker 1: National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association rankings, number one in Baseball America,
- 46:41Speaker 1: number one in the ESPN Usaday Coaches Balls. That's five
- 46:44Speaker 1: and they're number one across the board in those poles,
- 46:47Speaker 1: which is all well and good, and I will readily
- 46:50Speaker 1: admit to you it's been in quite a while since
- 46:52Speaker 1: I can remember them being ranked at high. Josh White,
- 46:57Speaker 1: who does a tremendous job in his first season. He
- 47:01Speaker 1: came in from Miami, so where they have their own
- 47:03Speaker 1: baseball tradition. But Josh does an outstanding job as the
- 47:07Speaker 1: media relations contact for Long Worn Baseball, and he does
- 47:11Speaker 1: a lot of digging and researching and things like that.
- 47:15Speaker 1: He points out, I think in just about every set
- 47:17Speaker 1: of game notes that he does at the start of
- 47:21Speaker 1: a series, that Texas is off to its best start
- 47:26Speaker 1: through I think it was through thirty seven games. Now
- 47:29Speaker 1: it's through thirty eight games since two thousand and four. Now,
- 47:33Speaker 1: what happened in two thousand and four? The Long Horns
- 47:36Speaker 1: were really, really good. They did not win the Big
- 47:40Speaker 1: twelf tournament. I think they won the regular season. He
- 47:42Speaker 1: did not win the Big twelve tournament. Oklahoma State actually
- 47:44Speaker 1: won that tournament. But Texas I'm pretty sure was the
- 47:47Speaker 1: number one overall seed that year, or they were in
- 47:50Speaker 1: the top two or three. They got all the way
- 47:52Speaker 1: to the National Championship series, did not drop a game,
- 47:56Speaker 1: beat Georgia along the way. I think they beat Stanford
- 47:59Speaker 1: the law the way they didn't. They didn't lose any games.
- 48:02Speaker 1: So they got to the championship and they ran into
- 48:04Speaker 1: a stone wall of pitching from cal State Fullerton where
- 48:07Speaker 1: Ricky Romero and Jason windsor Kurt Suzuki was catching Justin
- 48:13Speaker 1: Turner was playing for them, and they shock Texas and
- 48:17Speaker 1: they swept them two games. But that's the last time
- 48:20Speaker 1: they were kind of a consensus number one in that mindset,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and that's where they are right now in the voting
- 48:26Speaker 1: polls and also in the projections. And back in two
- 48:32Speaker 1: thousand and four, I really didn't look at tournament projections much.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Those didn't really start coming into vogue until you got
- 48:37Speaker 1: around twenty ten or so, so I can tell you
- 48:39Speaker 1: this is the first time I remember seeing this in
- 48:42Speaker 1: every set of projections that I've looked at, that Texas
- 48:47Speaker 1: is the number one overall seed in all of those projections.
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'll give you some examples. D one baseball is the
- 48:54Speaker 1: one that most folks follow. Now, there are differences in
- 48:59Speaker 1: the minds of those who compile these projections as to
- 49:03Speaker 1: which teams would be coming here to Austin to play
- 49:06Speaker 1: in a regional and also the ranking and placement of
- 49:11Speaker 1: other teams out of the top sixteen who would get
- 49:14Speaker 1: to those regionals, including the top eight national seeds. So
- 49:19Speaker 1: there are differentiations there, but the one thing that is
- 49:23Speaker 1: unified is that Texas at the number one in all
- 49:25Speaker 1: of these projections. So for example, in D one baseball,
- 49:28Speaker 1: they have Texas As they're overall number one.
- 49:30Speaker 2: The other teams they have coming here.
- 49:32Speaker 1: The two seed would be Kansas State, who's been kind
- 49:35Speaker 1: of sliding back because they just got swept by Cansas
- 49:38Speaker 1: of the weekend. Number three we just saw them ut
- 49:41Speaker 1: Rio Grand Valley they project UTRGV to win the Southland Conference.
- 49:45Speaker 2: And number four New Jersey Tech. That's a real school.
- 49:49Speaker 2: It's a real program.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It's not something where you can get you get your
- 49:53Speaker 1: degree online by calling an eight hundred number.
- 49:56Speaker 2: It's an actual program of that aet.
- 49:57Speaker 1: They're in Newark, New Jersey, and the winner of that
- 50:01Speaker 1: region would match up with the winner of a regional
- 50:04Speaker 1: in Los Angeles, where UCLA is projected as the number
- 50:08Speaker 1: sixteen overall seed with UC Irvine Duke Confession of State
- 50:11Speaker 1: the other teams there. The number two national seed they
- 50:14Speaker 1: have is Arkansas with Arizona the fifteen. The number three
- 50:18Speaker 1: national seed Clemson with Coastal Carolina the fourteen. Now don't
- 50:22Speaker 1: have an updated set of projection come out later this weekend.
- 50:25Speaker 2: That might change based on the.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Fact that Clemson won two out of three I guess
- 50:29Speaker 1: over the weekend over Louisville and Arkansas dropped two or
- 50:32Speaker 1: three at home to Texas, A and M. They had
- 50:36Speaker 1: Tennessee as the four and george is the five. Again
- 50:39Speaker 1: that could change. Auburn's the sixth, Georgia Tech the seven,
- 50:43Speaker 1: Oregon State the eight. So that's like that's d one
- 50:46Speaker 1: Baseball dot Com that they have that, and you say, okay,
- 50:49Speaker 1: well what about some of the others. Well, Baseball America
- 50:55Speaker 1: another one that has been doing projections a long time.
- 50:59Speaker 1: They have Texas is the number one, with the other
- 51:02Speaker 1: teams coming in. North Carolina State is a two. USC.
- 51:06Speaker 1: It's just from the Big ten. It's so weird to
- 51:08Speaker 1: see that. Southern California for the Big ten. And again
- 51:11Speaker 1: New Jersey Institute of Technology New Jersey Tech as the
- 51:15Speaker 1: America East winner.
- 51:16Speaker 2: When I see New Jersey Tech here they have they
- 51:18Speaker 2: have a decent baseball program. Remember Mike Tico and Tico
- 51:22Speaker 2: he played there.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Yeah he played Saint John's right, Yes, yes, yes, he
- 51:26Speaker 3: did so. The Ricords are most still in bases in
- 51:29Speaker 3: the season of Texas baseball history.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so so anyway, he's uh, he played there, so
- 51:35Speaker 1: anyway in jiuh, they haven't matching up with a field
- 51:42Speaker 1: at number sixteen. See they have uc Irvine, whose list
- 51:45Speaker 1: is a two see behind UCLA.
- 51:47Speaker 2: So they have Irvine. Is that.
- 51:49Speaker 1: With Oregon in the two, Virginia the three president of
- 51:51Speaker 1: the four and again there could be changes later this
- 51:54Speaker 1: week because of Tennessee, Georgia and Arkansas two three four,
- 51:59Speaker 1: All three lost their series of the weekend. Georgia got
- 52:01Speaker 1: swept Vanderbilt, Tennessee lost at home in Kentucky, and Arkansas
- 52:05Speaker 1: lost two out of three at home to Texas, A
- 52:07Speaker 1: and M H North Carolina, Clemson, Auburn and LSU the
- 52:11Speaker 1: top eight. There with the other seed, they have TCU
- 52:14Speaker 1: hosting with A and M in the field. It's a
- 52:16Speaker 1: three seat. TCU dropped two of three at UCF. Not
- 52:21Speaker 1: a good weekend for the horn Frogs, losing to a
- 52:23Speaker 1: sub five hundred losing two out of three to a
- 52:25Speaker 1: sub five hundred team in UCF.
- 52:27Speaker 2: So there's an example.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Then there on three has also its set of projections,
- 52:37Speaker 1: and Texas is the number one overall number one seed.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Like you, like we said you might you might imagine that.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Uh so uh they I'm just trying to make sure
- 52:51Speaker 1: I pulled this up. But I just had this here
- 52:54Speaker 1: and let's see if I can get it.
- 52:57Speaker 2: If not, I'll get it during the break. I'll look
- 52:59Speaker 2: during the break.
- 52:59Speaker 1: But there's But the bottom line on this is what
- 53:04Speaker 1: I was saying, is that that they are the number
- 53:07Speaker 1: one overall national seat across the board.
- 53:09Speaker 2: Now there's a waste to go. We've pointed that out.
- 53:12Speaker 1: My point about all of this is that it's been
- 53:16Speaker 1: a long time since Texas has been viewed in that
- 53:21Speaker 1: national prism. Can it change? Sure, Texas A and M
- 53:25Speaker 1: comes in here and has a big weekend, Yeah, it
- 53:27Speaker 1: could change. Remember Texas also has lost two midweek games.
- 53:32Speaker 1: They've lost a UTSA at home at UTSA. By the way,
- 53:36Speaker 1: really good team, good chances. They are going to be
- 53:38Speaker 1: in a regional that depends on what happens in the
- 53:40Speaker 1: American Athletic Conference.
- 53:42Speaker 2: But there's that. And in addition.
- 53:48Speaker 1: To that, they've got you know that the Texas State
- 53:52Speaker 1: lost and they have to play Texas State tomorrow in
- 53:55Speaker 1: sand Market. So we'll see how that all shakes out
- 53:57Speaker 1: over time. But obviously it trends up team wise for
- 54:01Speaker 1: Texas individually. We ran this down earlier with the injuries
- 54:04Speaker 1: they've had to sustain in the latest being Jared Spencer,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and we don't know what the situation is with him
- 54:10Speaker 1: yet until they get some more medical evaluation back. You know,
- 54:15Speaker 1: that could change things as well. So we'll see how
- 54:17Speaker 1: it goes from there. But so far, they continue to
- 54:20Speaker 1: hunkered down, play well. They've responded to Jim schlos Nigles
- 54:24Speaker 1: coaching and the staffs coaching. Max Wieners done a heck
- 54:27Speaker 1: of a job with the pitching. Nolan Kane and Troy
- 54:30Speaker 1: Tchilowitzky had done a tremendous job with the hitting with
- 54:33Speaker 1: the guy. So yeah, it's it's been impressive to see
- 54:36Speaker 1: so far. All Right, we got some other topics to
- 54:38Speaker 1: get to, which we will do when we continue on thirteen.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Out of the Owner, We're back.
- 54:45Speaker 4: It's the Craig Way Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster
- 54:48Speaker 4: in voice of the Texas Longhearts, Craig Way.
- 55:02Speaker 1: On the text line, somebody commenting on the John Daly
- 55:09Speaker 1: windfull seven or eighty thousand dollars he took in last
- 55:13Speaker 1: year just hanging out at Hooters signing autographs, selling autograph
- 55:19Speaker 1: golf balls.
- 55:22Speaker 2: It's American dream, craw just hanging out at Hooters and
- 55:24Speaker 2: getting paid for.
- 55:24Speaker 1: It, right, Cigar boxes because he's a big cigar guy.
- 55:30Speaker 1: So if you had an autograph cigar box from John Daily,
- 55:33Speaker 1: that's something else. I wo'ld say its two hundred and
- 55:35Speaker 1: fifty bucks to get one of those hat for forty bucks,
- 55:41Speaker 1: golf ball for ten dollars. So John Daily's worked it
- 55:44Speaker 1: out really well. There's a golf course at Myrtle Beach,
- 55:49Speaker 1: and people know who know me, know that I really
- 55:52Speaker 1: enjoy golf. But the only time I really get the
- 55:54Speaker 1: plays when they go on vacation, like you know. And
- 55:57Speaker 1: I used to play a lot more than I do now.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I used to go and I'd played three four days,
- 56:01Speaker 1: and now I'm one two days. I guess, you know whatever.
- 56:06Speaker 1: And then I play some miniature golf, but I mean
- 56:08Speaker 1: just regular golf. And there was there's a golf course
- 56:13Speaker 1: down there, and there's many There's one hundred and ten
- 56:17Speaker 1: in a thirty five mile stretch, and in fact, I
- 56:20Speaker 1: used to play four or five or six of them
- 56:22Speaker 1: religiously every summer for over twenty years.
- 56:25Speaker 2: So it got.
- 56:26Speaker 1: To the point where I have played like eighty of
- 56:31Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty.
- 56:33Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Well, this goes back to like nineteen eighty still Okay,
- 56:38Speaker 1: so I haven't played.
- 56:39Speaker 2: I've really slowed down the pace on that.
- 56:41Speaker 1: But anyway, the point I was gonna make is one
- 56:43Speaker 1: of the golf courses that I wanted to play. I
- 56:46Speaker 1: can't even remember the name of it now, but it
- 56:49Speaker 1: was a John Daily design and this was right in
- 56:52Speaker 1: his heyday when he won the Open in England and
- 56:59Speaker 1: then and then he won a PGA during that time
- 57:03Speaker 1: as well, so it was it was a really nice
- 57:05Speaker 1: golf course at the time there, and I planned to
- 57:07Speaker 1: play it, and naturally it was designed for long hitters,
- 57:12Speaker 1: and my problem really isn't distance, it's accuracy. I mean,
- 57:16Speaker 1: you know, I've got a bad slice, so it's you know,
- 57:18Speaker 1: it's it's not good.
- 57:19Speaker 2: I mean I can hit a long waist to the right.
- 57:22Speaker 1: But anyway, somebody had pointed out on the text line
- 57:28Speaker 1: that with Daily making that kind of money, it says
- 57:30Speaker 1: that's enough for Daily for a trip to a casino,
- 57:33Speaker 1: because he had that issue too, is going on with that?
- 57:35Speaker 1: So uh, we were just talking about regional projections of baseball,
- 57:40Speaker 1: and I did find that other set that I was
- 57:42Speaker 1: going to go over. But somebody pointed out when I
- 57:45Speaker 1: was mentioning New Jersey Institute of Technology n J. I
- 57:49Speaker 1: t mister Mescott, it's something pretty basic. I'm guessing it's
- 57:55Speaker 1: like Nights. It's I mean, it's not like the Goodfellas
- 57:58Speaker 1: or anything like that. Oh, the Sopranos. I don't know,
- 58:02Speaker 1: you know, it's what is it? Highlanders?
- 58:05Speaker 2: Yeah? Highlanders? That's is that basic? Yeah? Yeah, I don't know.
- 58:09Speaker 2: I think I want to think of basically. I think
- 58:10Speaker 2: it like tigers. Yeah. Well it's put it this way.
- 58:13Speaker 2: It's not unknown. Yeah you know, so it's not the catamounts. Yeah,
- 58:20Speaker 2: so Virginia, yeah, or from excuse me?
- 58:23Speaker 1: So pointed that out, and then somebody said, I think
- 58:25Speaker 1: Tony Masselli took uh night courses at New Jersey Tech.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Tony Miscelli was the character played by Tony Dans And
- 58:34Speaker 1: Who's the Boss?
- 58:34Speaker 2: Now that predates you. You're not old enough to I'm
- 58:38Speaker 2: familiar with the show. But okay, would Judith Light and
- 58:41Speaker 2: Tony Dan said, Who's the Boss?
- 58:43Speaker 3: Was on?
- 58:44Speaker 2: Who was the Boss? Right? Well, they tried to make
- 58:47Speaker 2: it sound like he was, but he really was. Was it?
- 58:49Speaker 2: Janet was her name? Was her name? What was her name?
- 58:51Speaker 1: Judith Light was the actress's name, And then they and
- 58:54Speaker 1: then they they had the kid too there, So who,
- 58:58Speaker 1: indeed was it was the universal question on that anyway,
- 59:04Speaker 1: I did locate that other set of regional projections, and
- 59:09Speaker 1: again it goes right to what we were saying that
- 59:13Speaker 1: it's unanimous about Texas. Now these projections are from on
- 59:16Speaker 1: three and they're a little more current than those other ones,
- 59:20Speaker 1: which was their latest ones at the end of last week. Now, again,
- 59:24Speaker 1: the weekend results like Tennessee losing two out of three
- 59:28Speaker 1: at home to Kentucky, Georgia being swept at Vanderbilt, Arkansas
- 59:33Speaker 1: losing two out of three at home to Texas, A
- 59:36Speaker 1: and M those were not reflected in those other projections
- 59:39Speaker 1: of it later in the week. It will be reflected
- 59:41Speaker 1: this week, and there'll probably be some shuffling around. The
- 59:45Speaker 1: point being made is there's going to be ongoing movement
- 59:48Speaker 1: and shuffling around, but for now, for now, Texas isn't
- 59:53Speaker 1: one of those teams. I mentioned this comment to Keith
- 59:59Speaker 1: Morland after the the other day about being in first
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: place in the league, and he could appreciate it because
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: he was a NASCAR fan. You could appreciate, Cameron, because
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: you're an NASCAR fan. And that was the term. If
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: you're out front like that, you're running on clean air.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: You're not you're not drafting others behind and getting the
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: dirty air coming off. You're running clean air. You're out
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: front of the field. And that's and that's where Texas
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: is right now. Well that includes in all these regional projections.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: So in these.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Regional projections coming from on three and they have a
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: staff that selects and follows and covers college baseball. They
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: have the SEC getting thirteen bids in the NCAA, followed
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: by the A SEC with ten. Other multi bid leagues
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the Big Twelve with six, the Big Ten with four,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: of the Big West with three, the Sun Belt with three,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: in Conference.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: USA with two.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I used to say that I thought the Southern Conference
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: back in the day was perhaps the best mid major
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: baseball conference in the country. I don't think that anymore.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: The Big West probably is, but the Sun Belt has
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: three ranked teams, so they're really good, and Conference USA
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: is good. And on the hosting line, the SEC has
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: five of the top eight and eight of the top sixteen.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Half of the field of regional hosts coming from the SEC,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: the ACC with three hosts, the Big Twelve is two,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the remaining hosts come from the Big West, the Sun Belt,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: and an independent. The independent is Oregon State. They're having
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: to play an independent schedule and it's kind of fascinating
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: to see what they're having to deal with because of
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: the dissolution and the complete, you know, breaking a part
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: of the PAC twelve. So Oregon State is having to
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: play an independent schedule. Now they were able to cobble
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: together and play some of the former PAC twelve teams.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: They've been able to play some other ones as well
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: that have helped the RPI and for an independent to
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: have what they've had, their RPI has been really good.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: In fact, today the RPI for Oregon stations they're number eleven.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: That's good considering what they've had to go through. By
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: the way, you'll probably still can found some people to
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: see how Georgia can get swept over the weekend and
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: be the number one RPI team. That that's the value
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: they place on road games, even though you lost all three,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Long Run's number two in the RPI. Also, the strength
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: to schedule for Texas is twenty five. The strength of
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: schedule for Georgia is four, Vanderbilt is three. Auburn despite
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: getting SWEPT is number four in the RPI. They have
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: the number one schedule strength in the country. So those
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: are some of the things that go down. And so
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that's where I mentioned how Oregon State is one of
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: those teams that are getting that all right, So with
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: regard to the rest of those regional projections, Texas is
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: the number one overall seed. And here's the difference that
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I was talking about, how there are different teams projected
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: to come to Austin in these very projections. In this one,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: it's two of the branch campuses. You might say, ut
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: S A is the two, UTR GV is the three,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Bethune Cookman is the four. And their analysis of this
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: is there's no new top overall seed this week. That
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: honor still belongs to Texas, who improved the thirty three
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: and five overall, sixteen and two in the SEC and
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: number two in the RPI. If the log Worns go
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: on to win the SEC regular season, they are likely
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: to be the top seed. So there are people ask
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: that question, so, well, you know, what good does it
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: do to win the SEC?
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: Well, it positioned you to.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Have a better run to try to get to Omaha
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: because the winner of the SEC, and Keith Morland said
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: this on Saturdays. I'm gonna tell you right now, ever
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: wins the SEC, whether it's Texas or Arkansas or Tennessee,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: whoever it is, whoever wins the SEC is gonna be
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the number one overall seed with the strength of this league,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: and right now that belongs to Texas. It also says
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: they also have a big resume boosts with fourteen. They're
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: a fourteen and three quad one record. I remember we're
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: talking about basketball. Texas had the struggle with the quad
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: one wins and losses. Fourteen and three. That's the most
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Q one wins in the country at this point. So
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: for anybody wants to say, well, but they played at home,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: they did. They have fourteen quad one wins. The interesting
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: thing is they've got this. They've got Texas matched up
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: with the sixteen seats and say be the one. They
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: have Oklahoma as the sixteen seed with Kansas Southern missing
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: ball state there. So, like I says, Texas versus Oklahoma
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: would be a fun potential super regional matchup, wouldn't it.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: So they've got them there.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: They have Clemson as the two, Auburn would be the
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: fifteen dropping with TC as the two seed there. Du
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: can high point the other teams in that Auburn Regional
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: LSU is the three seed, with NC State, East Tennessee
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: State in Maine, they're matching up with a fourteen seed
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Arizona which whatever UCLA you see, Santa Barbara and Grand Canyon,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Arkansas is the number four seed, with Western Kentucky, Miami
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: and Missouri State matching up with Vanderbilt the thirteen seed
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: with Louisville USC.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: And Rhode Island.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Tennessee is the five seed in Knoxville, with Iowa Xavior
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Southeast Missouri matching up with wanted you see Irvine, You
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: see Irvine, Oregon and wait for it, Texas A and
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: M the three and Fresno State.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: As the four. As they have been climbing the Aggies.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: This weekend could do an awful lot for Texas A
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: and M for their chances to be in the field.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: After the dreadful start they had.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: If they have a successful weekend in Austin, Oregon State
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: is projected as the number six overall seat, pretty impressive
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: for a team having to play an independent schedule. With
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Cal Polly, Arizona State, and Zaga the other teams they're
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: matching up with a regional hosted by West Virginia. They're
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: tops in the Big twelve right now, have them as
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: the number eleven overall seed, with Ole Miss, Virginia Tech,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: and or Roberts the two three and four seeds in
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: that regional. Then after that the seven seed Florida State
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: with Dallas Baptist Kentucky and Central Connecticut there matching up
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: with one Coastal Carolina hosting and Conway with Georgia, Tech,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Florida and Austin p there, he said, Florida, aren't they
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: six and twelve in the SEC.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Yes, they are. They're six and twelve.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: It'll be similar to like basketball right where yes, you
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: see set a record for most teams in the tournament.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah, with taxes getting in. Yeah, thirteen, number thirteen. Yeah.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: And then finally Georgia as the number eight overall seed
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: in Athens with Wake Forest Northeastern Colombia. They say, George's
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: in the midst of a bit of a stumble, having
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: been just been swept by Vanderbilt. Still they are ten
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: and seven in Quad one games, and they move back
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: up to number one in RPI, and it would match
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: up with and they would have a match up with
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: the number nine seed, which would be North Carolina, which
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: has Alabama, Kansas State, and right state there.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: So there it is. There's, like I said, that gets
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: you caught up.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: That set of projections from on three is more current
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: because it was just made up coming off of the weekend.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: The other major.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Ones will be updated, maybe as early as tomorrow, but
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: certainly during the course of the week.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: All right, we'll be back to wrap up hour number two.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: I'm thirteen under the zone from UFCU, just fog Field.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: It's game two of the three game weekend series the
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Texas Loghorns against the Auburn Tigers. Harrison from the stretch
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: and the one two swing in a miss struck him out.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: Luke Harrison gets out of the inning by picking up
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: his first strikeout of the ballgame and dodges a bullet
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: here on the top of the first three balls, two strikes,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: two outs, two on here's the payoff pits from Luke
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Harrison to Eric Snow and he takes strike three. Harrison
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: painted it and Louke Harrison works his way out of
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: trouble for a second consecutive inning with us strikeouts nothing
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: in one of the Plantier.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Here's the stretch.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: The pitch to Jade swings here and sends that one
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: in the right center.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: That's gonna fall for a Bay's hit. Farmer will score.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Chaydon turns on the jets, he slides. He's safe.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Harbi double from gud and bow and the lockhorns grab
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: at one nothing lead and the one two swung on
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: and that's lying in the right center of base. Hit
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: the pontier around third being waved to the plate. Here
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: comes the throw. It's airmailed backed up. Flores will take
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: second on the throw. Galvan is that third an RBI
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: opposite field single from Jalen Flores extends to Texas lead
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: to do nothing and they got the runner picked off.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: I throw the Schusler down the.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Second attack that Plotay puts it on him, heading over
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: caught stealing one, three, four, and that will retire Auburn.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Here in the fourth out of the stretch of the
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: pitch swung on and that's hit toward the alley left center.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: That will get down Tommy Farmer is gonna double again.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Tromming in the score is Kimball Schusler Armor two for
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: two with a pair of doubles. Extending the Texas leave
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: the three nothing stretch from the left hander Kate Fisher.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Here's the pitch.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Swung on and that is lying in the left center
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: of base hit rounding third, coming in the scores Tommy Farmer.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: There's the first collegiate hit for Jonah Williams. It drives
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: in a run and it's four nothing, Texas.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Nothing in won. The cap burns the stretch.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Here's the one swung onto, the ball hit on the
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: sinking liner and center coming on sliding to make the
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: catch his.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Gas Marino and the inning's over.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Will Gasparto fielding his position so expertly, a sliding catch
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: and outwards Hire Auburn in the sixth, the two ball,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: two strike pitch to Jonah Williams swings here and lines
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: it in the center field. It will drop for a
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: a cent and it will drive in two runs. How
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: about the freshman Jonah Williams. He has his first career hit,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: then his first career two hit game, and his first
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: three r They's two there and the log warns push
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: back with two.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: When they lead six to two.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Here's the two to two pitch swung out of the
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: grounder threw on the right side of ase hit floors
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: around third being waved to the plate.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: The throw is.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Gonna go to third, but it's high and it sails away.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Gasparino trots in opposite field, RBI single, one RBI for Schusler,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: the second on the error, and the log warns down.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Leaded eight to three.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Fans rise to their feet, wanting to see the final
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: strength of the night. One ball, two strengths, two outs,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: galanis less tratch. Here's the one two pitch to mc murray,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: swing and am In struck you out, and that will
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: do it. The Log Warns take the game. The log
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Warns have won the first two games. They've won the
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: series against the Auburn Tigers, and tomorrow they'll go for
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: the sweep. Final score Tonight from UFCU Deschamaunk Field, the
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Texas log Worns eight the Auburn Tigers three. From UFCU
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Dishpunk Field. It's the Texas Longhorns against the Auburn Tigers
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: in the finale of the three game weekend series. The
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: pitch swung on a ground ball hit and off the
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: glove of the third basement snow.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: It'll score the run.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Gas Barno's safe at first Ryland Galvan scores from third
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: and the game.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Is tied at one. A one ball, one strike pitch.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Swung on to the ball, hit well, help hard left.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: You can say good night to this one.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Kimballs Schustler's second home run of the weekend, a monstrous
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: blast beyond the left field fence, and the Loghorns.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Take a four to one lead.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: For Rodriguez, it was one out of three in the
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Thursday night opener. Swings of the first pitch and he
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: hits his ball well, this one out the deep center
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: back to the warning track and off the top of
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: the wall. Rodriguez will stop at second base. Four consecutive hits. Actually,
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: they're gonna call it around up. Yep, hit it hit
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: the back wall. That's a home run. Kimball's Schusler hits
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: a home run, and now Adrian Rodriguez comes up with
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: a home run. It hit the back wall, and the
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Longhorns now lead at five to one.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Swung on it. That's lying down on the left field line.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: That's fair in the corner. It'll score two runs.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Kimball Schusler another extra base hits his fourteenth double of
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the year, drives in two more and extends the Texas
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: leave to seven to one because swung on it. That's
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: three on the left side of base hip one run scores.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: Wave to the plate. Here comes Johan Williams.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: He slides, he is safe. The ball so popped out
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: of the mits Williams speeding home. A two runs single
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: from Ryland Galvan, and it's a nine to one Texas League.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Here's the two zero swung on the ball hit well
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: out toward left. If it stays fair, it's gone. It
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: is fair, and it is gone. Two run homer for
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Casey Harba. There's a stretch from Jet Johnston. First pitch
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: to Shustler swings here and it hits a fly ball
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: well out toward left. This one back to the warning track.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Say good night to it. This ball game is over.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: I don't know what else is going on around the SEC,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: but I can tell you one thing, Kimball Schustler is
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: as deserving as anybody in the conference for being SEC
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: player of the weegue.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: It's a two run.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Game ending walk off homer and the Loghorns run rule
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: the Auburn Tigers, and with that they remain number one
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: atop the College Baseball polls. They remain number one in
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: all the NCAA regional projections right now, and maybe they've
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: developed the next budding star. This is our number three
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: of the program here on thirteen under the Zone. My
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: name is Craig Waite. Thanks for joining us. Of course,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: the producer put everything together. There is Cameron Parker, our
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: friends at Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. Their latest thing
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: is to call the rising Texas Tornado. And there is
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: Jonah Williams and Mike Craven wrote the story on it
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: and said he's the next Texas Longhorns, next great two
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: sports star. Of course, before we got to Austin five
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: star athlete from Galveston Ball and he is on football
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: scholarship to Texas and did not.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Participate in spring practice.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: In fact, he is of the age where he would
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: be finishing his high school. As I said to Linda
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: at Alas, I said, dude probably should have been in
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: his senior prom or something if it's come up already.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: But he's playing baseball for Texas and got his first
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: multi hit games over the weekend and at least for
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: the time being, or as Jim Slosnagel says, for the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: foreseeable future right now is the start in left field.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: He had pretty exciting weekend. Everybody was excited to see
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: him perform well and he did.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: He did do that.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: So that's online at Texas Football dot com, Dave Campills
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: Texas Football Magazine where they have the piece on Jonah Williams.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Jonah and the Long Orange will be twenty eight miles
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: to the south of US down in San Marcus a
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: bobcat Ballpark tomorrow evening As Texas will take on Texas State.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: They're only midweek road non conference game of the Season'll
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: be down in Hayes County, six o'clock, first pitch. You
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: can hear it one o three point one FM, as
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: well as connecting to it to listen to it online
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: through the iHeartRadio app. You can listen to the Texas
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: longrns app, the LHN app I think also in Varsity
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Network app too, and online at Texas Long Runch dot com.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: So that'll be tomorrow evening's game. Keith Mortland will join
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: me for the call of that one the latest you
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: heard me say there on that last highlight. I don't
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: know how the rest of the SEC is doing. The
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Kimball Schustler is as deserving as anybody to be SEC
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Player of the Week, and the voters who vote on
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: that agreed. But they also agreed that Jayce Laviolette of
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Texas A and M was as deserving, so as a
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: result of that, they are the sec CO Players of
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: the Week. And he said, well, how could he have
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: done any better? At Schusler. Schusler batted seven to fourteen
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: over the weekend, and over the week three homers, ten
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: runs batted in. He reached safely in thirteen of his
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: seventeen plain appearances, four multi hit efforts, one in each game,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: highlighted by that two home run eight RBI performance on
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Saturday in the run rule win over Auburn lavio Lette.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: You ask hit five home runs, he scored ten times,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: drove in eleven runs. He hit four to twelve, so
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: he hit about three hundred points left, but he hit
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: two more home runs. He homered in all four games
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: that matched a career high. He also had a multi
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: hit game in three of the four contests, and he
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: drove in multiple runs in all four games.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Over the weekend, he had four home runs.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: And seven RBIs As the Aggies picked up their first
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: series winning Fayetteville in nine years twenty sixteen, last time
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: that happened. So it'll be interesting with both of those
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: guys going head to head this week as Texas will
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: play Texas A and M on Friday evening at seven o'clock,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon at three, and Sunday afternoon at two, So
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: look forward to that. Saturday is going to be a
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: big day, you know, because the the end of football
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: spring practic. As we know, there's no Orange white spring game,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: but there's a fan fest.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: Is there a scrimmage that night fen day closed scrimmage
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: or will it be I they were in the week
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: done by it?
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Okay, tell you what last Steve sarkisian when he's on
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: with us on Wednesday afternoon. Yeah go, Sark will join
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: us to kind of do a little wrap up of
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: how things have gone with spring ball. So obviously he
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: joins us here on the flagship for the long worn
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: radio network from Learfield. So Sark will be on with
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: us Wednesday afternoon in a two o'clock hour, So we look.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Forward to that.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Back to baseball, the latest polls have come out, Texas
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: number one in all of the polls. Interesting, the d
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: one baseball rankings. Texas is number one. Then it's Clemson two,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Oregon State three, Florida State four. Then it's Arkansas five,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Tennessee six, LSU seven, North Carolina eight, Vanderbilt nine, Georgia ten.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: Second tim begins with Auburn at eleven, filed by UC Irvine, Oregon,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: Oklahoma at fourteen, then UCLA Arizona, West Virginia, Alabama at eighteen.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Then it's Louisville, Troy, Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss three
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Sun Belt Schools twenty twenty one and twenty two, Ole
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Miss twenty three, Georgia Tech twenty four, NC State twenty five.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: TCU dropped out after dropping two of three at UCF
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: of the weekend. But if you're counting from the SEC,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: the Longhorns have four of the top seven, five of
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: the top nine, six of the top ten, seven of
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: the top eleven, eight of the top fourteen, nine of
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: the top eighteen, and ten of the top twenty three.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: So they have ten ranked schools.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: This week in this week's rankings. So impressive stuff there
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: that Texas had. I mentioned last hour about Walker Bueler,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: and he started today for the Red Sox. Of course,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: he went to Boston in the offseason, signed with them
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: after coming off the World Series Championship with the Dodgers.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: He's also three and one start. He's pitching well and
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: had longest outing. He went seven innings, he struck out nine.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: He threw one hundred pitches.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: And it was kind of a weird thing because today's
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Patriots Day, so they had that early start in Boston
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: because of the Boston Marathon, and they start the game
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: at eleven am Eastern, so it starts at ten o'clock
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: in the morning. So I was watching the game in
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: my home while having coffee at ten o'clock this morning
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: and watching Walker Buller pitch, and he looks good.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: He looks looks healthy and looks good.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: And I mentioned this as a note going into the
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: top of the hour, but they didn't mention everything. He
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: was a little uptight because it was his first time
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: to be in Boston on Patriots Day and he was
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: concerned about traffic if he drove it.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: He lives in Newton, Massachusetts, not that.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Far away, but was concerned about getting caught in traffic
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: or road closures or knee tours and all that other
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: kind of stuff when he has to pitch a game
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: at eleven o'clock in the morning, So he took his
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: family to a hotel near Fenway Park, and he said,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I stayed at a hotel last night just so that
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I didn't have just so that I kind of didn't
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: have to worry about it too much. My wife and
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: kids stayed with me, and everything was kind of normal
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: for us. We're all kind of used to sleeping in hotels,
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: so we're all good. So he did that, and he
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: talked about, so, how did you prepare for the game
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: differently if you're at the hotel for a home game.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: Obviously on the road you're in a hotel, But is
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: it any different? He said, well, I had all my
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: stuff done. I took an iPad home and I read
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: it last night where I typically do. I scouted their
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: whole lineup and every guy on the bench, and then
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: he went to the hotel. He said he set his
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: alarm for six forty five in the morning. He got
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: to the park at seven fifteen this morning local time.
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: It was the earliest game that Walker Buehler had pitched
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: in since he was pitching in Double A for the
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Dodgers in twenty seventeen. That would have been Tulsa. The
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Tulsa Drillers are Double A. And that was when he
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: was in the Dodgers farm system. And listen to this.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: They said, do you remember much about that? And he said, yeah,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I was going up against Jack Flaherty. It was SpongeBob
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: square Pants Day that we faced each other in. He said,
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I was thinking about that earlier. So it was Detroit's
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: Double A that he was going up against, which is
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: the Eerie Sea Wolves there the Eastern League. So it was
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: that was the Dodgers Double A and he was going
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: on that. Okay, speaking of that, Every year there are
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: new minor league baseball teams. Now I'm not talking about
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: the independent minor leagues, and I'm glad those still exist,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: because when Minor league baseball was contracted by I think
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: forty two clubs a few years ago by Major League
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Baseball and it got cut from one hundred and sixty
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty two of them to one hundred,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: I think it was Geene Watson.
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: I've talked about this at length.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: It took away a lot of opportunities for what would
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: be later round draft. The draft's only a twenty round
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: draft now, so it was a problem for a lot
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: of guys. It also meant some reworking of teams. Our
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: friend Andrew Haynes, who's the voice of Long Worn Softball,
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: he was the voice of the Ogden Raptors who were
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: in the Pioneer League.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: That whole league was contracted.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: It was a Rookie League team, and it was a
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Dodger Rookie League team, and it got pulled out. So anyway,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: there had been a contraction and reworking of a lot
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: of the minor leagues, and some teams actually got promoted up. Greensboro,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: my hometown, got promoted up into the Carolina League. Others
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: got promoted or demoted down. There's one other and every
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: year there's a new team. Have you heard, Cameron, since
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: you grew up in Charlotte, have you heard of the
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: minor league team in Spartanburg, South Carolina? Now they've had
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: off and on minor league teams for years.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: Spartanburg.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: Keith Morland played there when he was in the Phillies organization.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: Oh really, Okay, yeah, they're no longer called Spartanburg. The
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: need that the team name is the Hub City Spartanburgers. Now,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: first of all, did you know that Spartanburg was known
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: as a hub city, the hub city.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: I guess because it's next to Greenville. I suppose it
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: says what is a hubs city? Well, it's good that
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: you mentioned that, because on their website says why hub city.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: Hub city is the primary most utilized nickname for Spartanburg.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: The reason Spartanburg was nicknamed hubcity is directly tied to
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: the rail industry and the importance it played for Spartanburg
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: as a community in the late eighteen hundreds of over
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: seven rail lines running into and out of the center
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: of Spartanburg.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: That's made Spartanburger true huh u for transportation of goods
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: and people across the southeast in the country. So that's
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: why it was called that. The only hub cities I
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: knew of Boston hub City. Boston is the other Lubbock
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: hub city. In fact, they had a summer league team
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: called the Lubbock Hubvers. Keith Moreland played for that when
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: he was coming out of high school, the Lubbock Covers.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: So anyway, they have I think they have a new
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: downtown ballpark called Fifth Third Park, named after Fifth Third Bank.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: But they're the Hub City Spartan Burgers.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Interesting, yeah, is the name is the name of that team,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: So you're a minor league update for the day round.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Rock Express off today, right, because the PCL is off
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: on Mondays, right, so they'll be back in action tomorrow night.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: All right, We've got some football notes. We gotta get
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: to NFL Draft just around the corner. We'll get to
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: that when we continue on thirteen under the zone.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: We're back.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: It's the Craigway Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster and
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: voice of the Texas Longheards Craig Way.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: A couple of things before we talk from NFL.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: The NCAA Division One Board of Directors today, just a
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: little while ago, proposed deleting one hundred and fifty three
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: long standing rules from their handbook. Just strike them out
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: of the book. One hundred and fifty three. The reason
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: why it's that particular number is is that they are
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: all connected in one way or another to prevent schools
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: from sharing financial benefits directly with student athletes.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: So it's still.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: Contingent upon the approval of the House settlement. The nc
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: Board of Members board members met for about four hours
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: today and they emerged with nine major proposed legislative changes.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Now listen to these. Here's what they're proposing to change. One,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: including permission for schools to provide direct financial payments to players.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: He said, well, what's the difference from what's going on
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: in al is different the way it's funneled and set up,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: and this would be just a school just writ in.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: The check.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Also includes free use of their nil. NC leaders are
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: aiming to reshape the role of the organization. They are
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: poised to effectuate sweeping changes by July first. If the
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: settlement is approved. Schools have until June fifteen to decide
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: whether or whether to opt to provide benefits that would
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: be permission under the settlement for the coming academic year.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Proposed legislation also includes sports specific roster limits, allowing full
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: scholarships to all student athletes on a roster. So don't
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: to worry about the eleven point seven anymore or whatever
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: to anybody that's on a roster gets full scholarship. The
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: NCAA said it's going to double the scholarships available in
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: women's sports. It would also align with this expected House settlement,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: and that it would allow the power for schools sec
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: ACC Big ten, Big twelve. It would allow the Power
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: four schools and others who choose to offer settlement related benefits.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: This is that number that we've been hearing, twenty million,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: twenty point five million dollars in direct financial benefits to players.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: Not all Division one schools are going to choose to
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: operate in that new system enabled by the settlement. The
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: IVY League is chosen to opt out and they will
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: continue to operate under the current structure. But the new
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: NIL clearing House and the enforcement arm that's aiming to coexist.
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: This is Heather Dinnis who wrote this up for ESPN,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: and she always does find job it said. Was also
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: included that NIL clearing House, along with the rules, intended
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: to bring clarity instability of the NIL environment for all
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: Division one schools to prevent schools from trying to circumvent
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: that cap of twenty point five million, the NCAA has
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: proposed rules to help add stability and accountability.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: All players will be required to.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Disclose their NIL agreements if they are greater or equal
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: to six hundred bucks. Like if you you know, if
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: you call a game Cameron for somebody and they pay
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: you six hundred and more, you got to clear that
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: on your taxes. So that's that magic number six hundred.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Agreements between the player and the third party outside of
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: the school will be reviewed. The board also approved new
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: rules that would create technology platforms for the schools to
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: monitor their payments to players and for the athletes to
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: report their third party INIL agreements. There are also steps
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: the players can take if an NIL agreement is considered
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: outside of the range of compensation developed by the external
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: independent clearinghouse. Players will still be allowed to hire agents
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: for NIL purposes. An enforcement group that would be created
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: and operated by these conferences would aim to, as they say,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: provide oversighther rules relating to the terms of the settlement,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: including third party and NIL and the annual benefits cap.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: The NCAA will still use certain eligibility rules that have
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: been used to distinguish Division one athletics from pro sports.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: For the athletes to receive these benefits, the NCAA will
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: require them to be enrolled full time and meet Division
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I progress towards their degree and are in the benefits
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: during the five year eligibility period.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: So that's what they came out of the meeting with today. Yeah,
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: So the NCAA is basically, you know, they're getting in
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: line with this potential house settlement. Yeah there, now they're
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: officially look like they're officially done fighting this and so
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: now accepting into Okay, let's go ahead and get in
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: a position to where when this gets approved, which should
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: be I thought it was going to be this past weekend,
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: but I guess maybe a little bit in a couple
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: of days or so, maybe a little bit a couple
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: of weeks. But eventually this the hustlement, will get approved.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: It's not if it's more about when it will get approved.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: The nca is going to have to be ready to
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: go because I mean, Craig, this is going to be
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: such a crazy period this next year or two and
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: just figuring out what the schools can do, and you know,
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: with this twenty point five million dollar cap so to speak,
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: and house schools are going to decide to divvy up
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: you know which program gets what.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: Look, folks have been saying with this nil thing, it's
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: been wild west and that their need there's a real
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: need for guardrails on it. Well that's what this is.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: The NCAA is trying to put some guardrails down. Now
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: you can take this to the bank that some folks
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: will have a problem with it regardless. And I would
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: also tell you that the smaller Division one programs are
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: going to have a problem meeting that twenty zero point
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: five million dollar cap. But you know they're making an effort,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: like you said, to fall in line with a house settlement,
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: so that there are indeed some guardrails, like you've got
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: to be enrolled as a full time student, like you
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: have to have progress towards your degree, like the fact
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: you got to get it done in five years. Those
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: are some measures that they would put in while allowing
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the money to flow a lot free or all right, Hey,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: throughout the course of this week, you have a chance
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: to win a pair of tickets to Cohet and Cambria.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: I don't even ask me. Okay, don't even ask.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: You said, Coheating Cambrio will be at Moody Center on
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: September nine.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: Do you want to you want to guess the genre?
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: I'm not dissing this group. They might be incredible. I'm
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: just I'm out of my out of my depth here.
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: Do you want to guess what type of genre they are?
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: Correct? Country? If I can find their music, I'll tell you.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: Oh, Okay, well, okay, certainly fans of Coheating Cambrio know
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: what they are, so they would be listing.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: So here's what you gotta do. They're more progressive rock. Okay,
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: all right, good, So I.
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: Guess people also search for like my Chemical Romance and
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: fall Up Boy.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Okay, all right, there you go. So those who are
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: fans of Coheating Cambrio, or if they're just interested and said, hey,
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: maybe I'm win tickets and go and then I don't
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: even have to pay for the tickets and just go
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: out of my own curiosity.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Here's how you do it. If you don't.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Already have the eye Heart Radio app downloaded on your smartphone.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Very easy to do and it's free. You just download
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: it the iHeartRadio app. Once you have a downloaded you
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: search AM thirteen under the zone. There's a couple of buttons.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: There's a white one that's shaped like an arrow. That's
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: to listen to what programming is going on. There's also
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: a red button with a little white microphone in the middle,
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: and you tap that button and you leave us a
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: voice message of up to thirty seconds.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: That's our talk back feature.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: So you leave us a voice message and say hey,
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: I heard the keyword and the Craigway Show today for
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: the tickets for Coheed and Cambria. The keyword is and
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: today's keyword is searching. Searching. That's today's keyword. So you
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: would leave us a voice message say hey, I heard
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: the keyword on Craigway Show for Coheed and Cambria tickets
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: include me in the drawing.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: The keyword is searching. So you do that, so good
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: luck to you. All right.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: NFL Draft stuff next on thirteen under the Zone.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: You're back to the Craig Way Show.
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: Connect with Craig through the text line by text Team
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: Texas to eight one five three zero, followed by your message.
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: Standard message and data rates may apply.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: Okay, so we're drawing closer to the NFL Draft. We
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: have our big NFL Draft preview program coming up Thursday
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: from Twin Peaks and Round Rock. It's the best way
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: to say it's it's basically in the shadow of the
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: flyover from Toll forty five on to Buy thirty five.
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: Right, it's right there on that corner there.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of what you would say, what the
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: northeast corner if you're looking like going up from Austin,
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: the Dallas you know, there's the there's a Chick fil
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: A there, the McDonald's, dependa Express, Taco Plenk, Taco Peleenk,
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: and then it's Twin Peaks. It's across from the Walmart,
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: so that side. So if you're going northbound to get
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: off that what lewis henna right.
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: Able service right through the light yep, going to the bridge,
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: you have a pair of lights you go across and
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: it's right there on that right hand side.
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: So, uh, there's gonna be uh specials as well. To
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: Craig always you know, Twin Peaks always sets us up
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: very well.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: But great time last year and a lot of people
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: showed up for it. Yeah.
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: But but but this year I think they'll do some
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: specials with with uh of course with being Draft night
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: and looks like that's what Thursday, So three ninety nine
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: bud Light and Budweiser's four dollars Shiner box, five dollars
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: Mexican candy shot.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: Hey, they have to line you up for.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: That, and then a five dollars Jamison and Jamison Orange
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: and plus some some great happy hour for food too
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: as well. So it's it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: a lot of fun. Of course, meet and Craig and
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: Mike Harjes and Mark Kenry beout there also Norman Watkins
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: livetime long Corn Dorman.
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: Norman got a handful I think.
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: A special guests that are gonna stop by, and also
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: some interviews too that we're gonna hear from some special
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: insiders and former Texas players too, because you know there's
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: gonna be a lot of Texas players selected in this draft.
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: True enough, the draft itself begins at seven o'clock, so
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: we will have just left there when it starts, but
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: we'll set the table for.
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: You on that.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: So I'm always fascinated by the mock draft stuff because
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you, Cameron Parker, this would have
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: been a full eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve years before
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: you were even born, that I was producing the talk
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: show for Bradsham in Dallas on KRLD. I just started
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: out in full time there and he was the host
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: of Sports Central was the name of the show. And
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: Brad was the first one I ever heard in the
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: state of Texas do a mock draft, and this was
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: in the mid eighties. And what he would do is
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: he would get what was called the NFL Black Book
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: that had the names and phone numbers contact info for
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: the beat reporters, writers, broadcasters, and would turn that book
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: over to me and say line up. At the time,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: I guess there were twenty six teams in the NFL.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: Line up, twenty six reporters. And he would give me suggestions. Hey,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: you know, I usually.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: Use Jack buck to to pick for the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: I usually use.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: Gary Myers to pick for the New York Giants from
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: the New York Daily News and all this. And so
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: when I would contact all these people and line them up,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: and we would do it live mock draft over two nights,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: do the first thirteen picks the first night, and then
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: a second and it would just go bank bank bank,
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: like five minutes for each wine and roll it through.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: So that was in the early pioneering days of doing
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: mock drafts now mock drafts. And by the way, we'd
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: have Mel kiper On too. Mel was just really starting
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: out and he would send his draft guide in. He
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: was young and fledgling, but we would do this mock draft. Nowadays,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: mock drafts are done all the time by any number
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: of outlets, podcasts and websites and over the ear linear
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: ESPN and several others. So you can take your choice
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: on NFL dot com and NFL Network. I've followed Jordan
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Reid quite a bit on ESPN plus on the deal
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: because his mock draft this is some exhaustive work. He
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: made all two hundred and fifty seven picks. Now, when
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: I used to do this mick draft for a Brad,
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: we did the first round and he couldn't make trades.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: Just one round, twenty six picks took two nights. He
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: did his final mock draft two hundred and fifty seven picks,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: and some of them are pretty obvious, like cam Ward
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: he has number one overall, one to Tennessee. I think
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: pretty much everybody's expecting that right that the Titans will
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: take Camore number one.
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been he's been doing a lot of uh,
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: he's been dropping a lot of name dropping a lot
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: of Tennessee Titan players and like his live streams and stuff.
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: So it seems like he knows that the Titans are
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: going to take him.
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: Now Jordan Reid points out, he said, uh, he has
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Abdul Carter, the edge rushier from Penn State and Travis
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Hunter of Colorado both ranked higher on his board, but
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: he said the general manager, Mike Borgonzi, appears ready to
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: tie his early tenure to the top ranked quarterback in
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: the class. All right, So then he's got Travis Hunter
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: go winning Sacka to Cleveland. He's got Abdul Carter going
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: to the Giants, and number three Will Campbell to the
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Patriots at four, Mason Graham from Michigan to the Jaguars
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: at five, Ashton Genty the Boys, he's stayed running back
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: to the Raiders at number six. So he goes on
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: down from some of the Jalen Walker for Georgia going
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: to Carolina. Number eight, Shador Sanders. He has going ninth overall,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: the Colorado quarterback Beyonsa going to the Saints. He's got
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: mikel Williams from Georgia going tenth over all to the Bears.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: He has Kelvin Banks going eleventh overall to the forty
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: nine Ers eleventh overall. Have you seen who he's got
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: the Cowboys taking at number twelve? Let me guess, Okay,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: I think it's got to be a receiver.
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: So uh huh.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: The hot name that I've seen lately is our own
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: Matthew Golden. Is it Matthew Golden. It's not Matthew Golden.
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: It's a receiver. It is a receiver.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Is it Tita Row McMillan. Yep, interesting, Yep, yep, he's
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: got him. He's got McMillan there at twelve, and then
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: he's got Jatte Baron going to the Dolphins the very
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: next pick at thirteen thirteen rather uh huh. Just scrolling
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: through a few, he has Matthew Golden going eighteenth overall
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: to the Seahawks, So that would be three long horns
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: in the first eighteen.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: Picks if it happens that way.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: He's got the Steelers taking Jackson Dart, the Omens quarterback.
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: At twenty one.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: He has the Texas a and m edge rusher Shamar
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: Stewart going to the Packers.
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: At twenty three.
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: He's got the Texans taking Tyler Booker, the guard from Alabama.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Twenty five.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: He has the Rams taking Malachi Starks, the Georgia safety
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: at twenty six. There's many outside of this first round.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: It just kind of screams off the Josh Simmons, the
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: Ohio State offensive tackles of the Chiefs at thirty one,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: and the last pick number thirty.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: Two, he has Walter Nolan.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: So anyway, he's got Jaylen Milroe from Alabama going to
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: the Browns with the first pick in the second round.
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: Off of that, a couple other names.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: Travion Henderson, the running back from Ohio State going thirty
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: ninth overall to the Bears in the second round. Let's
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: see what it was it quin Shawn Judkins, the Ohio
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: State running back going to the Cowboys in the second
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: round at number forty four overall.
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: I got a feeling it'll be receiver, running back, defensive
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: line or maybe receiver defensive line running back in the
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: first three rounds for the Cowboys.
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: He has the Chargers taking Alfred Collins at the fifty
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: fifth overall pick in the second round. So that's four
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: in the first two rounds for the for the Longhorns.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: And of course, like we said, they had eleven he's got.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: He's got the Giants taking Tyler Shuck, the Louisville quarterback
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: in the third round.
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: He's I saw a thing today about could he go
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: in the first round? What do we do in your guys?
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: Kidding me? Tyler shuck. He's he's I'm almost the same
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: age as him. Yeah, I remember he was coming out
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: of high school, because yes, you're exactly right.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: My goodness, he's got He's got Andrew mccouba going to
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: the Bears early in the third round, seventy second overall pick,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: so that's five. He's got the Cowboys taking Shamar Turner
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: from A and M the defensive tackle in the third round.
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: So that's just kind of a cross section in in
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: uh looking.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: Uh He's got the Rams taking Jack Back, the wide
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: receiver from TCU in the third rounds got Devin ne
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: L the Kansas running back, going to the Texans in
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: the third round as well. Uh so that's kind of
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: a cross section of what that's just one one mock
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: draft pick there, just so you know. Also, let me
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: look for the Cowboys. Cowboys don't have a fourth round pick.
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: I think it was given up in a trade if
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: I remember correctly. Yeah.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Ye, he has the Cowboys taking Denzel Burke, the Ohio
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: State corner in the fifth round. Uh.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Then in round six, gosh.
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: I got a lot of Rams, a lot, a lot
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: of compensatory compensatory, compensatory, compensatory that's a tough pick.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I got like two of those in the
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: sixth round.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: He has the Rams taking Dylan Gabriel and he has
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: the Chargers taking Jake Majors in that sixth So anyway,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: there's that. And by the way, in case you're wondering
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: who mister irrelevant would be, last pick, Max and Hook
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: a safety from Toledo going to the Chiefs number two
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: fifty seven.
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: So there you are. There you all right. We'll be
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: back to wrap it up at thirteen hundred zone.
