- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering One Piece, episodes 924 through 926, the capital in
- 0:15Speaker 1: an uproar, another assassin targets Sanji, dashing the righteous Soba Mask,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and a desperate situation, Orochi's menacing Oniwabanshu. I hope I'm
- 0:30Speaker 1: saying that right. In these episodes, Robin gets caught doing
- 0:36Speaker 1: her sleuthing, but it turns out to not actually be Robin,
- 0:41Speaker 1: so that's helpful. Also, we have got this whole geisha
- 0:46Speaker 1: situation that seems to be kind of heating up and
- 0:49Speaker 1: maybe going to turn into a rivalry. And fights, fights, fights,
- 0:55Speaker 1: ending in Big Mom losing her memory. Welcome to Spoil Me.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Welcome to the show, everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very,
- 1:22Speaker 1: very much to Michael for commissioning this episode. Michael, if
- 1:26Speaker 1: you're listening, appreciate you very much. So this is a
- 1:33Speaker 1: weird thing to start off with, but I'm going to
- 1:35Speaker 1: do it because you guys just know that the whole
- 1:40Speaker 1: Gesha thing is like of interest to me just in principle.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I way, way long ago, read the book Memoirs of
- 1:51Speaker 1: a Gesha that I think at the time I was
- 1:54Speaker 1: simply not used to interrogating at all whatsoever the writer
- 2:02Speaker 1: behind any particular property. I just did not have that
- 2:07Speaker 1: kind of, not just critical thinking, but simple curiosity about it.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And it wasn't until I finished the book and was
- 2:16Speaker 1: feeling kind of impressed with the story that I found
- 2:20Speaker 1: out it was written by a white guy and was
- 2:23Speaker 1: sort of, oh, oh, and felt very different about everything
- 2:28Speaker 1: all of a sudden. But that said, I've never seen
- 2:33Speaker 1: the movie. I know it got made into a film.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But the story itself was very much like, about the
- 2:44Speaker 1: rivalries between different women, but also the ways in which
- 2:48Speaker 1: they are like leveraged and commodities and don't really get
- 2:53Speaker 1: a choice in being rivals because they don't have a
- 2:56Speaker 1: lot of agency in their lives. And I am really
- 3:01Speaker 1: interested in like seeing what all is going on with
- 3:06Speaker 1: that in this universe, because it's, It's feeling a little
- 3:12Speaker 1: bit like we've got a bit, I don't want to
- 3:16Speaker 1: say more agency necessarily because that's unclear. But Komurasaki seems
- 3:21Speaker 1: like she's able to kind of like state the terms
- 3:28Speaker 1: of how things work for her. And I assume the
- 3:33Speaker 1: money that she's scamming off of these guys that she's
- 3:35Speaker 1: able to like keep a lot of it. But this
- 3:38Speaker 1: is all assumption I don't really know enough. And we
- 3:42Speaker 1: have this like, I can't remember his name, the prince
- 3:47Speaker 1: type character, like he's the one that I think is
- 3:49Speaker 1: actually the slasher. When he is asked about like taking
- 3:56Speaker 1: a strong hand with her because she is so apparently
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's like not that much of a secret among certain
- 4:04Speaker 1: people that she is a hard ass, selfish bitch. And
- 4:10Speaker 1: so somebody is saying like, you really must have had
- 4:13Speaker 1: to take her in hand because she's got such an attitude.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And I was genuinely surprised at him being like, she's
- 4:20Speaker 1: not a dog. You just give people the opportunity to
- 4:24Speaker 1: like grow and flourish. And they will a lot of
- 4:27Speaker 1: the time, which this guy is such a shit on
- 4:30Speaker 1: so many levels that that considered and measured a response.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I just never would have predicted coming out of his
- 4:37Speaker 1: mouth in a million years. And I'm, you know, the
- 4:43Speaker 1: whole thing with her, I'm assuming is that she wants
- 4:46Speaker 1: to get close to the Orochi because she is trying
- 4:50Speaker 1: to become his consort in a way that he is
- 4:53Speaker 1: assuming is also true of Robin. And with Robin, there's
- 4:58Speaker 1: like just a whole other ulterior motive, but, we know
- 5:03Speaker 1: that with Komura Saki, like she wants wealth, she wants money.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And I assume maybe power that goes with it. Although
- 5:11Speaker 1: I'm really not sure how much of a priority that
- 5:14Speaker 1: is specifically for her. And so she is like not
- 5:20Speaker 1: taking well to the fact that Robin is moving in
- 5:24Speaker 1: on her turf as the potential favorite. And I wish
- 5:29Speaker 1: that it could just be like, Hey girl, On the DL,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I don't really want to be with him. I just
- 5:36Speaker 1: have to get a little info. Let me move in
- 5:39Speaker 1: and get what I need. And then I can just
- 5:41Speaker 1: like disappear and hand him over to you. And you
- 5:44Speaker 1: can make your whole play, especially maybe if he is
- 5:48Speaker 1: sufficiently like heartbroken. Oh, poor. My Gesher Robin disappeared. What
- 5:54Speaker 1: could have happened to her, you know? And then you
- 5:56Speaker 1: can just like be a shoulder for him to cry on.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And you can be the one who's like, good and
- 6:01Speaker 1: faithful but obviously we can't tell her what's going on
- 6:05Speaker 1: here i understand this and i also think if we
- 6:08Speaker 1: did tell her she has a vested interest in orichi
- 6:13Speaker 1: staying in power she wants money she wants to be
- 6:16Speaker 1: comfortable and toppling the people who are at the top
- 6:21Speaker 1: of the pyramid is not going to be something that
- 6:23Speaker 1: i would think she would throw in with at all
- 6:26Speaker 1: so uh Again, I understand why we can't do that.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I just wish that we could and everybody could just
- 6:31Speaker 1: get what they want and we could all be a
- 6:33Speaker 1: happy family. We're not at all. In the chat, Seraphim says,
- 6:41Speaker 1: the name of the Oniwambanshu is a play on the
- 6:45Speaker 1: term for personal bodyguard for a high-ranking lord in feudal Japan. Okay, gotcha.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Because yeah, this is like a pretty big group, actually.
- 6:55Speaker 1: If I recall, it was like there were 10 of them.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I genuinely had a moment of like, oh boy, what
- 7:01Speaker 1: are we about to do? And it was not what
- 7:04Speaker 1: I was thinking, which was going to be like, a
- 7:07Speaker 1: kind of slow introduction to each of them. We see
- 7:10Speaker 1: all of them as a group and we get a
- 7:12Speaker 1: little bit of interaction with like our, the dude who
- 7:16Speaker 1: I'm assuming is sort of in charge, but beyond that,
- 7:20Speaker 1: not a lot with them quite yet. And I'm assuming
- 7:22Speaker 1: that we're going to get there, but I do have
- 7:24Speaker 1: to say, I just don't think we need another character
- 7:29Speaker 1: in the mix. And I know I keep saying that,
- 7:30Speaker 1: but holy shit, like how many people do we got
- 7:33Speaker 1: to keep track of? Um, Seraphim says, yeah, Komurasaki is
- 7:39Speaker 1: the top oiran in Japan. With that comes enough prestige
- 7:42Speaker 1: and social power to get your way in most things. Right, right, right.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So she's just such a like top performer that she
- 7:50Speaker 1: can sort of dictate. She's a diva. She's a diva.
- 7:53Speaker 1: And I respect the shit out of that. I wish
- 7:55Speaker 1: that I were. I understand that that term comes with
- 7:59Speaker 1: a lot of baggage sometimes. But with her, it's actually
- 8:02Speaker 1: correct because she does throw her weight around in a
- 8:05Speaker 1: particular way. That isn't necessarily true of all so-called divas.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But yeah, she has clearly figured the game out. And
- 8:16Speaker 1: I mean, you've just got to respect somebody who knows
- 8:19Speaker 1: how to play that well. Bernadette in the chat, how
- 8:24Speaker 1: many people do we got to keep track of? I'd
- 8:26Speaker 1: say welcome to One Piece. I mean, fair. It's just like,
- 8:30Speaker 1: it usually is a little bit more spread out in
- 8:34Speaker 1: terms of like, one arc containing so many new people,
- 8:39Speaker 1: but this is like the whole new crew being added
- 8:44Speaker 1: to the mix feels like it's happening every, like every
- 8:47Speaker 1: five episodes in the Wano arc. It's like, there's a
- 8:50Speaker 1: whole new group that we're dealing with and a group
- 8:55Speaker 1: of minimum, like five people, you know, and I'm just
- 8:58Speaker 1: kind of starting to be like, I need another spreadsheet here.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Cause I'm, just going to have to refer to people
- 9:05Speaker 1: by like either their powers or what they're wearing, which
- 9:09Speaker 1: is mostly what I do tend to do anyway. But
- 9:13Speaker 1: when you're, even that gets like too confusing once you
- 9:15Speaker 1: start dealing with a lot of characters. So, okay, we'll
- 9:21Speaker 1: start at the beginning here where we are still in
- 9:24Speaker 1: the midst of the fight between all of Kaido's people
- 9:29Speaker 1: and Mom trying to land in Wano. I don't really
- 9:35Speaker 1: want to get too much into the nitty gritty of
- 9:37Speaker 1: this fight because you guys know that a lot of
- 9:40Speaker 1: times that's sort of the least interesting thing for me,
- 9:43Speaker 1: especially in light of the fact that everybody who's like
- 9:46Speaker 1: on mom's team has kind of cool, interesting powers. I
- 9:51Speaker 1: sort of expected this fight to be a little bit
- 9:54Speaker 1: more interesting and compelling as it was happening than it
- 9:57Speaker 1: wound up being, but it's not super long. You know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: they could have easily stretched this out for more than
- 10:03Speaker 1: one episode. And by the end of the first of
- 10:05Speaker 1: the three episodes, we have solved temporarily the issue here.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Her people are still like safe. So sort of, But
- 10:18Speaker 1: they are without their leader. So I am curious where
- 10:21Speaker 1: exactly they go from here. And there are all of
- 10:26Speaker 1: these different levels of defense that they manage to get
- 10:29Speaker 1: through before we have the sort of one-on-one between– is
- 10:32Speaker 1: it King– Is that the name of the one that
- 10:42Speaker 1: is like the pterodactyl? Somebody calls him by the name
- 10:45Speaker 1: of another. I keep saying pterodactyl because like I have
- 10:48Speaker 1: the equivalent knowledge of a second grader about dinosaurs. So
- 10:53Speaker 1: when you ask me what's a flying dinosaur, pterodactyl is
- 10:56Speaker 1: literally the only name I'm ever going to be able
- 10:58Speaker 1: to come up with. But I think that that is
- 11:01Speaker 1: not actually correct to like what it is he's supposed
- 11:04Speaker 1: to be. He is the one who finally like swoops
- 11:09Speaker 1: in And knocks her off the ship. And he says
- 11:12Speaker 1: something like, enjoy your watery grave, hag. Which was pretty great, actually,
- 11:21Speaker 1: as a line. I will say this. I am surprised
- 11:27Speaker 1: that he thought that was going to be enough to
- 11:30Speaker 1: kill her. I just feel like at this point, we
- 11:33Speaker 1: should all be a little bit more realistic about how
- 11:36Speaker 1: you kill somebody who is an emperor of the sea. Because...
- 11:40Speaker 1: it's so much harder than I think. Like, it's certainly
- 11:46Speaker 1: harder than I was personally expecting. But they are working
- 11:49Speaker 1: for Kaido. And so they should have even more like
- 11:52Speaker 1: firsthand knowledge how difficult it is. And the fact that
- 11:56Speaker 1: he is so confident, oh, it's her watery grave. I
- 11:59Speaker 1: was just like, get the fuck out of here, sir.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You know that she's not dead. Have you slowed her down? Sure.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And You know, an argument could be made about how
- 12:07Speaker 1: losing your memory is almost like dying because you are
- 12:10Speaker 1: no longer the person that you were. Like you are
- 12:13Speaker 1: essentially you. You no longer exist in the same way.
- 12:19Speaker 1: But I feel like this is obviously he was not
- 12:25Speaker 1: going for a metaphorical death. And the fact that she
- 12:30Speaker 1: does lose her memory, guys, what a wild choice. I
- 12:34Speaker 1: don't know what to expect regarding this change in the
- 12:38Speaker 1: story because like it's her abilities are sort of weird.
- 12:44Speaker 1: And I'm trying to decide if this could potentially affect
- 12:48Speaker 1: anything that she is able to do or her attitude
- 12:52Speaker 1: about things. Because the whole thing, sometimes when you have
- 12:55Speaker 1: a character who had previously been like maybe vicious or
- 13:00Speaker 1: selfish or something, and then they lose their memory and,
- 13:03Speaker 1: in an overboard style situation, for example, with like Goldie
- 13:07Speaker 1: Hawn is that, okay, well now we're going to see
- 13:10Speaker 1: this person who had been really selfish, no longer have
- 13:13Speaker 1: that personality trait. And then they build a new life
- 13:17Speaker 1: or they get put into a place where that kind
- 13:20Speaker 1: of personality would never survive. And eventually they find their
- 13:25Speaker 1: memory again. And they're just like, I can't believe that
- 13:27Speaker 1: I behaved that way. Overboard with Goldie Hawn is, um,
- 13:32Speaker 1: one of those really gross ones because she is a
- 13:38Speaker 1: monstrous person to begin with. But this dude basically just
- 13:43Speaker 1: decides to pretend that she was married to him so
- 13:45Speaker 1: that he can utilize her for free labor. And then
- 13:48Speaker 1: when she comes back to her senses and her memory,
- 13:50Speaker 1: she's just like, Oh, I really liked being free labor actually.
- 13:54Speaker 1: So I'll just stay, which, um, you know, okay. So, um, Anyway,
- 14:00Speaker 1: mom losing her memory. It's like, look, I have said
- 14:05Speaker 1: how much I enjoy the weirdness of her people, her land,
- 14:10Speaker 1: all of this. And I will be very honest with
- 14:13Speaker 1: you guys about something that I am like low key
- 14:16Speaker 1: hoping for. And that is I want mom to become
- 14:21Speaker 1: like a kind of a good guy. I would like it.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I don't really have like, it's just simply because I
- 14:30Speaker 1: feel like the only way to get to see more
- 14:32Speaker 1: of her and have her abilities put to a use
- 14:36Speaker 1: that isn't upsetting and, and, or like just horrible is
- 14:45Speaker 1: to have her lose her memory and, and forget the
- 14:51Speaker 1: way that she decided to rule everything. Um, I also
- 14:55Speaker 1: keep thinking about like True Blood because there's a whole
- 14:58Speaker 1: season where Eric loses his memories in True Blood. And
- 15:01Speaker 1: he is such a like kind of selfish person. But
- 15:07Speaker 1: when he loses his memory, he becomes this like sweet,
- 15:10Speaker 1: supportive guy. And once he comes back to himself, you're
- 15:15Speaker 1: sort of like, ah, damn, you know. Seraphim says, I
- 15:22Speaker 1: don't even think he was outright trying to kill them
- 15:24Speaker 1: so much as just kick them out of Wano. If
- 15:26Speaker 1: they died in the process, that's just a bonus. I
- 15:29Speaker 1: don't know that he was trying, but when he says
- 15:31Speaker 1: enjoy your watery grave, it's clear that he's assuming that
- 15:34Speaker 1: she is going to die. Like, unless he really doesn't
- 15:38Speaker 1: think that and he just wanted to go for the wine,
- 15:40Speaker 1: which I guess is possible. Big Mom does have a
- 15:43Speaker 1: history of memory issues. And yeah, we saw her flashback.
- 15:46Speaker 1: She could have been a decent person if she hadn't
- 15:48Speaker 1: been brought up by a manipulative human trafficker. And then
- 15:52Speaker 1: a pirate who indulged her whims for their own gain. Yeah.
- 15:57Speaker 1: It's such a weird thing too, because she had those
- 15:59Speaker 1: parents that like, I don't know. I feel like we're
- 16:03Speaker 1: supposed to see her parents as terrible, but considering the
- 16:07Speaker 1: fact that she did something as awful as like maybe
- 16:12Speaker 1: eat her friends, it's really difficult for me to fully
- 16:16Speaker 1: decide whether or not her parents are like as terrible
- 16:20Speaker 1: as I would normally say about people abandoning their child
- 16:23Speaker 1: because she's obviously way bigger than either of them. So
- 16:28Speaker 1: she has them completely outmatched physically if they were going
- 16:31Speaker 1: to try and restrain her or anything. And if she
- 16:34Speaker 1: is out here potentially being a threat to like eating people,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I don't know what I do as a parent. So
- 16:43Speaker 1: in terms of like the way that she might've been
- 16:45Speaker 1: raised even before she being abandoned genuinely don't really have
- 16:52Speaker 1: a clear idea on like what kind of people they were.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Not that it really matters at this point, I don't think,
- 17:00Speaker 1: but it was just something that I, I think about
- 17:02Speaker 1: her origin a lot. And the fact that they like
- 17:05Speaker 1: just left her somewhere and considering what winds up happening
- 17:10Speaker 1: with her, what pushed them to do that? Finally, how
- 17:15Speaker 1: bad did it have to be? You know, Seraphim says
- 17:20Speaker 1: they did at least abandon her essentially on the doorstep
- 17:22Speaker 1: of an orphanage famous for taking in problematic kids. True.
- 17:26Speaker 1: So they weren't just like leaving her like, oh, maybe
- 17:30Speaker 1: she'll just starve to death. You know, they were kind
- 17:33Speaker 1: of like, we can't handle her, but maybe there's somebody
- 17:35Speaker 1: who can, which I just, this is something I think
- 17:38Speaker 1: about a lot because I have never had children. I
- 17:44Speaker 1: have not felt the desire to have children. And a
- 17:47Speaker 1: big part of that is the kind of story that
- 17:50Speaker 1: you hear where somebody has a child who is like psychologically,
- 17:58Speaker 1: maybe psychopathic, you know, something that's like a problem that
- 18:03Speaker 1: is more even than dealing with a physical disability, which
- 18:08Speaker 1: is also already like as an American where we have
- 18:12Speaker 1: the worst healthcare system in the world, that is a
- 18:14Speaker 1: big deal to handle. if you're dealing with somebody who
- 18:20Speaker 1: can't help the fact that they simply do not empathize
- 18:24Speaker 1: and they are, or worse, like want to hurt people.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I don't, the, the idea of having to deal with
- 18:32Speaker 1: that and that child being on you to handle is
- 18:37Speaker 1: just so incredibly overwhelming a thought to me and just really,
- 18:42Speaker 1: really sad as well. Um, But yeah, so it's a,
- 18:50Speaker 1: the whole thing with her also, like the fact that
- 18:52Speaker 1: she loses her memory and she is not with her people.
- 18:57Speaker 1: So she regains her memory like, or she loses her
- 19:00Speaker 1: memory on her fall toward the beach where she is
- 19:05Speaker 1: eventually discovered by Chopper and co. And if we're going
- 19:13Speaker 1: to have potentially the ability for her to turn into
- 19:17Speaker 1: a different person, it is essential that she not be
- 19:20Speaker 1: surrounded by her children, because they will all just, you know,
- 19:24Speaker 1: remind her or tell her, well, this is what you're like,
- 19:28Speaker 1: just be like that again. And we can't have that.
- 19:31Speaker 1: We can't just keep doing the same thing. So, I mean,
- 19:35Speaker 1: if you're going to have somebody who's a bad guy
- 19:38Speaker 1: and who loses their memory, and you have to pick
- 19:41Speaker 1: one of the straw hats for them to wake up
- 19:43Speaker 1: near to be taught how to be a good person,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Chopper is just the one, you know? I can't like,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I think all, I think all of the straw hats
- 19:56Speaker 1: would bring something to the table on that front, but
- 20:01Speaker 1: I feel like Chopper is the most pure. Luffy is,
- 20:06Speaker 1: is definitely a good person, but he is just so
- 20:09Speaker 1: inconsistent and easily distracted. Usopp's a coward. Nami is money driven.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Sanji is very obsessive about women. If we could, if
- 20:23Speaker 1: we could take that out as a factor, potentially that would,
- 20:25Speaker 1: that would be better. Zoro, he's not a bad person,
- 20:31Speaker 1: but like, I just feel like he wouldn't participate. I
- 20:35Speaker 1: just feel like he wouldn't really do the job. Frankie
- 20:38Speaker 1: would work. Frankie's pretty good. Brooke... Yeah, I think he
- 20:45Speaker 1: would mostly work. Same issue as Sanji, to a degree,
- 20:48Speaker 1: but if we just remove that as a factor to
- 20:51Speaker 1: worry about it first, most of the Straw Hats, I think,
- 20:55Speaker 1: would do a good job. But there's just no contest
- 21:00Speaker 1: when it comes to the type of cinnamon roll that
- 21:03Speaker 1: you would want more personalities like theirs. It's of course chopper.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And I will be taking no further questions. So the, the,
- 21:13Speaker 1: the whole aspect of this is what I'm really looking
- 21:16Speaker 1: forward to because I didn't know how it was going
- 21:20Speaker 1: to work, including mom in this storyline. Like I know
- 21:25Speaker 1: that I've said before how I forget and lose track
- 21:29Speaker 1: of the fact that she and Kaido are not, allies.
- 21:33Speaker 1: But I also know there's no way we can simply
- 21:38Speaker 1: just repulse her and her people and they don't get
- 21:41Speaker 1: to Wano at all. She's not coming all this way
- 21:44Speaker 1: for us to simply fail to get into Wano. And
- 21:47Speaker 1: then we have to deal with that plot point. It's
- 21:50Speaker 1: going to have to be that she like is in
- 21:55Speaker 1: the mix. And I just couldn't think how that would
- 21:58Speaker 1: happen because, without it just be constantly fighting Kaido's people
- 22:02Speaker 1: all the time. And this being the way that we're
- 22:06Speaker 1: doing it, I am like fully on board. I think
- 22:09Speaker 1: this is a really fun, clever way and I'm looking
- 22:13Speaker 1: forward to it. Honestly, I really am. Florian is saying,
- 22:20Speaker 1: just not mentioning Robin, the shade. Oh my God. I
- 22:24Speaker 1: didn't even mean to, that was inadvertent shade, but like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: one could argue that's the greatest shade of all where
- 22:31Speaker 1: I'm not even like purposely, you just don't matter much
- 22:35Speaker 1: to me. I feel so bad because like, it's not
- 22:39Speaker 1: even really that I dislike Robin at all. It's just
- 22:42Speaker 1: that she, even in this section, she's doing some things
- 22:48Speaker 1: that are interesting. And yet I don't know, guys, I just,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I really do tend to forget her. Um, Anyway, I
- 22:59Speaker 1: kind of just wanted to deal with the whole, like,
- 23:02Speaker 1: initial fight out of these three episodes. And then we have, like,
- 23:07Speaker 1: the assassin targeting Sanji. And this is Drake, right? Oh, no,
- 23:13Speaker 1: this is page one. Drake's the other one. This is
- 23:18Speaker 1: such a weird... The... Choice being made here by page
- 23:26Speaker 1: one is I'm going, I heard this guy make soba noodles.
- 23:31Speaker 1: So I'm just going to knock over every single building
- 23:36Speaker 1: that is a soba shop trying to find this guy.
- 23:41Speaker 1: And if they, if he is not there, I will
- 23:45Speaker 1: make them find him for me, even though there is
- 23:48Speaker 1: no reason they should know where he is because they're
- 23:51Speaker 1: not associated with him. It is kind of funny, too,
- 23:54Speaker 1: because at one point, Page One says that he's going
- 23:57Speaker 1: to destroy every Soba shop if he has to, and
- 24:00Speaker 1: he's already destroyed the one. And I kind of wanted
- 24:04Speaker 1: the owners, not like I wanted them to do this
- 24:07Speaker 1: because that it would be very shitty, but it would
- 24:10Speaker 1: have been very funny if one of them were like,
- 24:12Speaker 1: maybe we should encourage him to destroy the other shops
- 24:14Speaker 1: since ours got destroyed. So there aren't competitors that are
- 24:18Speaker 1: like still making money. And then we could all be
- 24:20Speaker 1: in the same boat of having to like reestablish our
- 24:22Speaker 1: business together. But yeah, page one is he sucks so
- 24:28Speaker 1: bad guys. He really fucking, I love later. when Sanji
- 24:32Speaker 1: looks around and he just then looks up at page
- 24:35Speaker 1: one and says, you asshole, because this guy is just
- 24:39Speaker 1: destroying the whole town. And while one, you know, could say, oh, well,
- 24:45Speaker 1: it's the, he, he is not going after just Soba shops.
- 24:48Speaker 1: He is knocking down the whole like district of the city.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And it seems like for a, the fun of it,
- 25:01Speaker 1: And B, the laziness of like, I don't want to
- 25:05Speaker 1: just like, you know, go around and knock and talk
- 25:10Speaker 1: to people. I just want to pull the lid off
- 25:13Speaker 1: the box, so to speak, take the roof off and
- 25:16Speaker 1: then demand what I want. And he just really fucking blows.
- 25:23Speaker 1: So he's holding these Soba shop owners hostage and is like,
- 25:30Speaker 1: find him. or I will, you know, make your lives miserable,
- 25:36Speaker 1: kill you, whatever, any number of threats. And these people
- 25:41Speaker 1: start screaming for Sanji. Now, I'm going to be real,
- 25:45Speaker 1: you guys. I'm so sorry to do this, because I
- 25:48Speaker 1: feel that I keep probably being very infuriating to some listeners.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Because our friends are going by more antiquated versions of
- 25:59Speaker 1: their names in this plot, where we're in Wano, I
- 26:04Speaker 1: just keep fucking forgetting what those are. And so when
- 26:08Speaker 1: these people start yelling, I don't want to tell you
- 26:12Speaker 1: quite how long it took for me to realize they
- 26:14Speaker 1: were yelling for Sanji. Like I understand that I should
- 26:20Speaker 1: have like, but look, I'm just, I'm being very vulnerable
- 26:23Speaker 1: here and explaining that like, I'm not that smart. Sometimes
- 26:25Speaker 1: it's just the way it works. Sometimes I can be
- 26:27Speaker 1: quite smart and it's just not now. This was not
- 26:30Speaker 1: a time when that was true. So this guy is,
- 26:37Speaker 1: you know, causing everybody to yell for Sanji. And Sanji
- 26:42Speaker 1: is with Usopp, Frankie and Trafalgar Law trying to escape.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Law says, is very much taking the tack of like,
- 26:55Speaker 1: the biggest priority is for us to get out of here.
- 26:59Speaker 1: He says something about the fact that like, if one
- 27:02Speaker 1: of you falls behind, you're just going to have to
- 27:04Speaker 1: let yourself be killed. We're not waiting for you. Like,
- 27:08Speaker 1: to which Usopp says Luffy would never say that. And
- 27:11Speaker 1: Law's like, yeah, and I'm not him. What? What? Like,
- 27:16Speaker 1: It's such a mystery to Law. Like, why are you
- 27:20Speaker 1: saying that like it is relevant? He's not here. I
- 27:23Speaker 1: don't aspire to be a leader like Luffy, if that's
- 27:27Speaker 1: the impression you're under, you know. But the way that
- 27:35Speaker 1: Sanji stops and hears these people screaming and finally is
- 27:40Speaker 1: just like, I gotta turn around, dude. I can't. I
- 27:42Speaker 1: can't just leave these people. I... by the time he
- 27:47Speaker 1: finally turns around, I was just like, thank you. Would you,
- 27:50Speaker 1: because I know that in terms of the pacing of
- 27:55Speaker 1: the show, this is actually a quite reasonable amount of time,
- 28:00Speaker 1: but there's just no way that I would be able
- 28:04Speaker 1: personally to take it. If I knew that there were
- 28:07Speaker 1: people that were being harmed because they were what stood
- 28:10Speaker 1: between me and the bad guy. And I'm, hearing them
- 28:15Speaker 1: screaming and I'm realizing they are being put through it
- 28:19Speaker 1: right now. Potentially. I, I simply could not live with myself.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I can be a massive coward when it comes to like,
- 28:29Speaker 1: you know, just tolerating pain. And I've said before how I,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I am not somebody you even need to torture. If
- 28:36Speaker 1: you need information, you just need to show me a
- 28:39Speaker 1: tool for torture and I'll tell you whatever you want.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But I, when other people are being tormented due to me,
- 28:48Speaker 1: now we're in a different situation. This has changed. And
- 28:53Speaker 1: that would haunt me for the rest of my days.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I simply couldn't do it. It's not a deal breaker with,
- 29:02Speaker 1: with law that he is like this, because I understand
- 29:07Speaker 1: narratively that he is simply supposed to be kind of
- 29:09Speaker 1: the foil for Luthi. where we're going to see somebody
- 29:13Speaker 1: who is successful because they are a little bit more cutthroat,
- 29:17Speaker 1: a little bit more ruthless and, you know, smarter and
- 29:21Speaker 1: more mature to a degree on a number of different things.
- 29:25Speaker 1: But I will say I wouldn't want to be on
- 29:28Speaker 1: Trafalgar's team. I think that it's, I look, I get
- 29:39Speaker 1: it again. I'll say I get it. I understand why
- 29:44Speaker 1: he's like this, but I would just be so filled
- 29:47Speaker 1: with anxiety all the time at potentially being like left
- 29:51Speaker 1: behind as a vulnerability if I don't get it right
- 29:58Speaker 1: all the time. That's the thing that's so lovely about
- 30:02Speaker 1: being part of Luffy's crew is that you begin to
- 30:06Speaker 1: develop this absolute faith that he would never leave you
- 30:10Speaker 1: high and dry. He simply would not do that. And
- 30:14Speaker 1: we need to see somebody like Law to remind us
- 30:17Speaker 1: that is not the default. That is unusual. And some
- 30:22Speaker 1: of the bad guys actually managed to cultivate this sort
- 30:26Speaker 1: of relationship with their crews as well. where they're a
- 30:30Speaker 1: bad person and they're doing bad things, but they still
- 30:36Speaker 1: have their loyalty to their own people and would never
- 30:38Speaker 1: turn their back on them. Um, so it's not exclusive
- 30:42Speaker 1: to good guys, so to speak, but the fact that
- 30:47Speaker 1: law is so prepared to drop anybody who becomes a liability,
- 30:55Speaker 1: it's kind of sobering, you know? Um, And as they are,
- 31:03Speaker 1: as like Sanji is turning around now, here comes a
- 31:07Speaker 1: plot point. I really love. And Seraphim is in the
- 31:11Speaker 1: chat and Seraphim was part of the conversation in discord
- 31:16Speaker 1: recently where I was talking about, there's a sub thread
- 31:21Speaker 1: that I made because I'm reading the wandering in and
- 31:25Speaker 1: there is a kind of side series of, with the
- 31:29Speaker 1: first book being called Gravesong, that I was recommended to
- 31:34Speaker 1: read before I went on to the next book. So
- 31:36Speaker 1: I'm in the midst of that. And there is a
- 31:39Speaker 1: character who has this like power, but she is from
- 31:43Speaker 1: our world. She's not used to handling this power. And
- 31:48Speaker 1: she has a moment where she's kind of on the
- 31:50Speaker 1: spot to use it to help some people. And she's
- 31:53Speaker 1: just having a really hard time reconciling herself to the
- 31:59Speaker 1: fact that she has the power to do something huge
- 32:02Speaker 1: to help people that is, in her opinion, out of
- 32:06Speaker 1: proportion to what the average human being's influence and ability
- 32:10Speaker 1: to change things should be. There's a lot of reasons
- 32:15Speaker 1: at the base of her character for why she is
- 32:18Speaker 1: sort of panicking like this. But suffice to say, when
- 32:24Speaker 1: she is asked to do something that could save a
- 32:26Speaker 1: lot of people and she starts arguing about how this
- 32:30Speaker 1: world is unjust and unfair and she shouldn't even have
- 32:33Speaker 1: this power. I had less than zero patience for the
- 32:39Speaker 1: whole argument and the fact that she was doing, choosing
- 32:42Speaker 1: to like talk about this. Now, eventually she snaps out
- 32:46Speaker 1: of it and she's just like, right, right, right now
- 32:47Speaker 1: is not the time. But, I, as soon as she
- 32:51Speaker 1: starts talking, I'm just like, girl, what are you doing?
- 32:54Speaker 1: There are people dying. Get your fucking ass moving. And
- 32:59Speaker 1: this moment with Sanji is just such a beautiful, he
- 33:02Speaker 1: pulls out what looks like a can of soda, which
- 33:07Speaker 1: we are familiar with the fact that this is some
- 33:10Speaker 1: tech from Germa double six. And he says out loud,
- 33:17Speaker 1: even if it hurts my pride, if this could help anybody,
- 33:22Speaker 1: it's my responsibility to use it. And I was just like,
- 33:27Speaker 1: fucking thank you. Can you please go talk to Kara?
- 33:30Speaker 1: Because I just don't need, you know, he says essentially
- 33:34Speaker 1: like how I feel about it is irrelevant because this
- 33:37Speaker 1: is not fucking about me. And I was like, thank you.
- 33:42Speaker 1: That's all, you know, and he just is so level
- 33:45Speaker 1: in the moment of just, I don't like these people.
- 33:49Speaker 1: And as he's like, activating it so that the suit
- 33:52Speaker 1: like covers him he he's starting to say and just
- 33:55Speaker 1: because i'm using it don't make the mistake of thinking
- 33:58Speaker 1: that i'm like them which it's very funny because he
- 34:01Speaker 1: keeps saying this sort of thing we understand what it
- 34:05Speaker 1: is that he's getting as he's saying it But he's
- 34:08Speaker 1: talking to Page One, and Page One, who is waiting
- 34:11Speaker 1: for this friggin' fight to start, just keeps being like, dude,
- 34:14Speaker 1: what are you fucking talking about? Will you just get
- 34:16Speaker 1: to the point where we fight? Can we just fucking
- 34:18Speaker 1: get this on the road here, please? And honestly, I
- 34:22Speaker 1: was thinking, like, if I didn't know what he was
- 34:24Speaker 1: talking about, I would be very irritated as well by
- 34:27Speaker 1: the way that he's doing this. But it is funny.
- 34:29Speaker 1: And obviously, I fully agree with Sanji's take and appreciate
- 34:36Speaker 1: that he is willing to set aside how he personally
- 34:41Speaker 1: feels about the whole thing because grow up, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and that's, that's lovely to see. So I was very,
- 34:49Speaker 1: very proud of him for this. So he activates it.
- 34:54Speaker 1: And this is so wild because he becomes, it's like
- 34:59Speaker 1: a particular character that his suit is like, a recognizable
- 35:07Speaker 1: design so that when he activates it, Trafalgar law, who
- 35:12Speaker 1: is a, an avid reader of the comics, apparently is
- 35:17Speaker 1: immediately like, Oh my God, that's so-and-so. And it's a
- 35:22Speaker 1: really wild moment to me because what we get in
- 35:26Speaker 1: terms of the dynamic here, first of all, he like
- 35:31Speaker 1: reels off a bunch of things that this character has
- 35:34Speaker 1: gotten up to, which, uh, Sanji can hear him well
- 35:37Speaker 1: enough to just be like, how do you even know
- 35:39Speaker 1: all that? And we find out he read the comics.
- 35:42Speaker 1: In the midst of all of this, you've got Usopp
- 35:46Speaker 1: and Frankie who are like very sort of little boy
- 35:51Speaker 1: impressed with a superhero in their midst. Like just the
- 35:54Speaker 1: fact that it's still Sanji whom they know, but he's
- 35:57Speaker 1: wearing the suit and it sets him apart. They both
- 36:01Speaker 1: are very starry eyed about it in a way that's like,
- 36:05Speaker 1: very funny. I, I really do enjoy this sort of thing,
- 36:09Speaker 1: especially cause we haven't seen, um, what's his name? Shoga,
- 36:14Speaker 1: Shoga King. Is that, I can't remember, but you know,
- 36:18Speaker 1: Usopp's like kind of alter ego hasn't appeared for a while.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Soga King, right? I think. Um, and so the, both
- 36:28Speaker 1: of them are really loving this whole transformation and, And yet,
- 36:36Speaker 1: at one point, Usopp says that Trafalgar Law sounds like
- 36:40Speaker 1: a nerd right now because he's able to like cite
- 36:43Speaker 1: all of this lore. And I was just like, is
- 36:48Speaker 1: he the nerd? Even though you guys clearly like pissed
- 36:51Speaker 1: your pants over how cool you think it is. You
- 36:55Speaker 1: all know if you had access to this same comic,
- 36:58Speaker 1: you would be massive fans. Please do not play in
- 37:01Speaker 1: my face about it. But I'll say that the one
- 37:04Speaker 1: time that Usopp does say Trafalgar Law sounds like a
- 37:07Speaker 1: nerd is right after Trafalgar says something kind of insulting
- 37:11Speaker 1: about Sanji's MO. And I'm going to put it down
- 37:16Speaker 1: to that. It's not that he's really making fun of Law.
- 37:21Speaker 1: It's more I'm defending Sanji in that moment, which that's
- 37:25Speaker 1: just my headcanon for that. But yeah, so the... name
- 37:33Speaker 1: of the, the character is like shadow double six, or
- 37:39Speaker 1: it's like something, something sort of generic sounding, but also
- 37:44Speaker 1: vaguely bad-ass. And I think that page one actually asks what,
- 37:52Speaker 1: who are you? Or like, what is your name? And
- 37:56Speaker 1: everybody is just waiting with breath that is baited. And
- 37:59Speaker 1: it's unclear whether or not they expect, Sanji to use
- 38:04Speaker 1: the name of the character from the comics, or if
- 38:07Speaker 1: they are planning for him to pick his own name
- 38:09Speaker 1: to begin with. I think they know that he's picking
- 38:12Speaker 1: his own name here, but sorry, I'm looking at the chat.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So what he comes up with in English is Soba Mask,
- 38:24Speaker 1: which while not a name that I think is that cool,
- 38:31Speaker 1: It also is sort of like so strange a name
- 38:35Speaker 1: that part of me can't help but kind of approve
- 38:37Speaker 1: of it a little bit. Lena says in the German translation,
- 38:42Speaker 1: Sanji calls himself Buckwheat Ranger, which honestly is actually unironically
- 38:50Speaker 1: kind of an amazing name. I sort of love that.
- 38:53Speaker 1: But yeah, Suffice to say, everybody seems pretty devastated at
- 38:59Speaker 1: this choice of name because it is not as cool
- 39:01Speaker 1: as they thought it was going to be. I am
- 39:07Speaker 1: going to think on it and see if I can
- 39:10Speaker 1: come up with something better, but I'll be honest, coming
- 39:14Speaker 1: up with like a superhero name is always tough because
- 39:16Speaker 1: you have to straddle this line where it's not too
- 39:21Speaker 1: on the nose as to be like, I'm trying so
- 39:26Speaker 1: hard to be cool and badass, but it also... if
- 39:30Speaker 1: you go too far in like a classic direction like
- 39:34Speaker 1: just thinking about it's spider-man and batman and ant-man it's
- 39:39Speaker 1: just a blank and then and then man after You
- 39:45Speaker 1: start to get into the territory of things just kind
- 39:48Speaker 1: of falling flat in a way that feels very like,
- 39:51Speaker 1: oh my God, really? That's the best you could do?
- 39:53Speaker 1: So I really would want his name to have something
- 39:57Speaker 1: to do with food. I understand why he chose that,
- 40:00Speaker 1: especially in light of the fact that it was all
- 40:02Speaker 1: of these Soba restaurants that were getting destroyed. But I don't...
- 40:08Speaker 1: Soba mask. He's not wearing a mask. If it were
- 40:12Speaker 1: Soba Cloak or Soba Suit even, because he has a
- 40:16Speaker 1: raid suit on, I would kind of enjoy that. But
- 40:20Speaker 1: because it's like calling Whitebeard Whitebeard when he doesn't have
- 40:24Speaker 1: a beard, you know, where I just go, why? Why
- 40:26Speaker 1: did you do it? So that's my main issue. It's
- 40:30Speaker 1: not like how lame the name is itself, but just
- 40:32Speaker 1: how irrelevant it really feels to the costume and who
- 40:35Speaker 1: he is. The raid suit, however... Turns out to be
- 40:45Speaker 1: kind of bananas in terms of its overall power. He
- 40:52Speaker 1: can literally turn invisible. And as soon as they say,
- 40:56Speaker 1: oh my God, he's invisible. I'm like, how has he
- 41:01Speaker 1: not been using this? We know his whole thing had
- 41:06Speaker 1: been that he wants to be invisible so that he
- 41:09Speaker 1: can spy on girls in the shower. it turns out
- 41:13Speaker 1: Sanji didn't know it could do this. So he's in
- 41:16Speaker 1: the middle of the fight going, Oh my God. Oh
- 41:19Speaker 1: my God. It does. What? I didn't know that. And
- 41:23Speaker 1: starts to get very, he has to like stop and
- 41:25Speaker 1: make himself focus because he gets almost instantly sidelined toward,
- 41:31Speaker 1: you know, just like, I got, I got to go
- 41:33Speaker 1: find a shower. I got to go find girls. I
- 41:37Speaker 1: will say for myself, they're, he's a huge conflict going
- 41:44Speaker 1: on within me. I don't want him to be a peeper.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I don't like it. However, him being given the opportunity
- 41:52Speaker 1: to be a creeper is interesting because maybe what if
- 41:57Speaker 1: he didn't take it? What if the, the question is,
- 42:01Speaker 1: if he didn't, would he still be Sanji? So what
- 42:04Speaker 1: I'm kind of feeling is he has to take it,
- 42:07Speaker 1: but get stopped. It's gotta be, maybe he catches like
- 42:10Speaker 1: a tiny glimpse, And then somebody comes along and just
- 42:13Speaker 1: ruins his fun. Whether that be on purpose or not,
- 42:16Speaker 1: I don't know. But I am interested to see, now
- 42:23Speaker 1: that he has some means of weirdly fulfilling this dream
- 42:27Speaker 1: of his, how that all works out. Suffice to say,
- 42:30Speaker 1: he handles page one. But he makes sure everybody runs
- 42:41Speaker 1: on without him. Because at first they're watching the fight
- 42:45Speaker 1: and he has to be like, guys, get your asses
- 42:47Speaker 1: out of here. I really love, too, that there is
- 42:50Speaker 1: a point where he gets knocked down. It's a pretty
- 42:55Speaker 1: one-sided fight for the most part where he's just beating
- 42:57Speaker 1: the shit out of Page One. But at one point,
- 43:00Speaker 1: Page One smacks him down and he lands on a
- 43:04Speaker 1: building and knocks it down. And In a moment of great,
- 43:12Speaker 1: what's the word I want here? Sensitivity, perhaps? He goes, okay,
- 43:19Speaker 1: we're going to move this fight up into the air
- 43:22Speaker 1: because one thing I'm not going to do is participate
- 43:24Speaker 1: in destroying this fucking town any further. So I'm going
- 43:28Speaker 1: to get you out of here so that we don't
- 43:30Speaker 1: have just tons of fucking collateral damage. And yes, appreciate
- 43:35Speaker 1: your looking out there. Stealth Black is the name. Thank you,
- 43:39Speaker 1: thank you guys. Seraphim says, it makes more sense in
- 43:44Speaker 1: Japanese given just adding mask to the end of a
- 43:46Speaker 1: name is common. See Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon. It's
- 43:51Speaker 1: kind of their version of just adding man to the
- 43:53Speaker 1: end of the name. Bernadette says, white beard sounds a
- 43:56Speaker 1: lot better than white mustache though. Well, we just didn't
- 44:00Speaker 1: have to go in that direction of facial hair at all.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Just thinking about maybe that possibility white beard is again
- 44:09Speaker 1: a translation thing because Japan doesn't have a separate term
- 44:11Speaker 1: for beard and mustache just one overall term for any
- 44:14Speaker 1: facial hair yeah I just like that guy had so
- 44:18Speaker 1: many other distinctive traits that it's uh do we ever
- 44:23Speaker 1: find out that he had like a name because like
- 44:27Speaker 1: nobody's calling a child white beard right so it's a
- 44:31Speaker 1: it's a nomenclature but what was his actual name Edward Newgate,
- 44:37Speaker 1: says Sarah Femme. Okay, I'm remembering this now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, okay, so...
- 44:49Speaker 1: I'm going to jump over to what's going on with
- 44:55Speaker 1: Luffy really briefly because it's almost nothing. Like, he's barely
- 44:59Speaker 1: in these three episodes. All we get from him is... First,
- 45:04Speaker 1: I think it's Raizo is meeting him and it's just like, hey,
- 45:07Speaker 1: everything is cool. And Luffy keeps insisting on like talking
- 45:10Speaker 1: really loud and drawing attention to himself. And Raizo keeps
- 45:13Speaker 1: having to be like, would you fucking shut up? And
- 45:17Speaker 1: at one point, Luffy looks over and sees a big pile. Like,
- 45:25Speaker 1: I think it's just a bag like him and Kid
- 45:28Speaker 1: have won before that he's assuming is full of dumplings.
- 45:34Speaker 1: And it's like, give me some of your dumplings. You know,
- 45:38Speaker 1: I'll pay you back. Where's my share? We don't actually
- 45:42Speaker 1: see Kid in that scene. And we also don't see dumplings.
- 45:46Speaker 1: So my suspicion, because we see the bag sort of move,
- 45:51Speaker 1: is that there's something else going on here and it's
- 45:54Speaker 1: not dumplings. But it is just a really weird scene
- 45:57Speaker 1: to like have this moment of him demanding a thing.
- 46:01Speaker 1: And then we cut away and then we don't cut
- 46:03Speaker 1: back for two episodes. It's just odd, you know? Um,
- 46:09Speaker 1: so that's all for Luffy for now. And then we
- 46:14Speaker 1: have to deal with the actual orichos banquet. Um, Orochi. Sorry.
- 46:21Speaker 1: I keep wanting to do that. I do that a lot.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I've noticed with this show, especially it's like, I want
- 46:26Speaker 1: to transpose the, uh, vowels in people's names. And I
- 46:30Speaker 1: do not know why that is, but, um, So Robin
- 46:37Speaker 1: is wandering around investigating and I have to ask guys,
- 46:45Speaker 1: because like you all know, there's a lot to keep
- 46:49Speaker 1: track of. Have we seen Robin make a full on
- 46:56Speaker 1: clone of herself with her power before? I believe not.
- 47:05Speaker 1: This is something that is in the live action, like
- 47:08Speaker 1: as an intro to her as a person, if I'm
- 47:12Speaker 1: not mistaken. But I can't remember like an instance in
- 47:20Speaker 1: the animated show. Florian says on the Mermaid Island. Oh,
- 47:27Speaker 1: the Mermaid Island. Seraphim says, yes, it's something she learned
- 47:31Speaker 1: to do during the time skip. Okay, that's what it is.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I was just so like, I don't remember this power.
- 47:40Speaker 1: And I don't know if I mentioned it at the time.
- 47:44Speaker 1: But if not, I'll say at this point, I do
- 47:48Speaker 1: feel like it's a little bit overpowered considering what her
- 47:53Speaker 1: ability is to simply be able to like make a
- 47:56Speaker 1: full on functioning clone of herself that can pick things
- 47:59Speaker 1: up that looks exactly like her. is indetectable from the
- 48:04Speaker 1: actual person. It's almost too much, but I also, you know,
- 48:14Speaker 1: people are able to do such wild shit in this show.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Lena says, honestly, I don't remember that. Thank you. I'm
- 48:22Speaker 1: glad I'm not the only one because it's something, it just,
- 48:28Speaker 1: We haven't busted this out as often as I would
- 48:30Speaker 1: think if we have established this as a power she
- 48:33Speaker 1: has already. I would think this would just be utilized
- 48:36Speaker 1: left and right. It's part of the problem when you
- 48:39Speaker 1: do establish that somebody can do something that's like borderline
- 48:43Speaker 1: overpowered is there are so many points that it could
- 48:49Speaker 1: have been used that we have to all pretend that
- 48:51Speaker 1: we don't know that they can do this thing or
- 48:54Speaker 1: that it simply didn't occur to our people to utilize
- 48:57Speaker 1: it this way. And it can be, you can kind
- 49:02Speaker 1: of get yourself in a corner, I think, as an author,
- 49:05Speaker 1: you know, showrunner or whatever. Seraphim says she used it
- 49:11Speaker 1: to steal the key to the king's shackles from Hottie. Okay. Yeah.
- 49:19Speaker 1: It's like, what's sort of also interesting to me is like,
- 49:24Speaker 1: this is clearly for the benefit of the viewing audience
- 49:27Speaker 1: that we don't know that this isn't really Robin. So I, if,
- 49:32Speaker 1: if we're just trying to steal stuff, her like normal
- 49:36Speaker 1: ability of just being able to use, her hands to
- 49:40Speaker 1: like pass things along probably would have worked just as
- 49:44Speaker 1: well for stealing things. But there, like there have been
- 49:51Speaker 1: other times that I've mentioned before where I have wanted
- 49:54Speaker 1: her to simply use her regular, like I can make
- 49:56Speaker 1: hands appear power because I thought it would make things
- 49:59Speaker 1: a lot easier. And she hasn't done that. Like when
- 50:01Speaker 1: we were going up the side of the elephant, earlier
- 50:05Speaker 1: and everybody is like struggling to get up there and
- 50:07Speaker 1: i'm just like why doesn't robin just like hand them
- 50:10Speaker 1: up the way that she does many things with her
- 50:14Speaker 1: hands um so all this to say she gets caught
- 50:22Speaker 1: really quick it's not even like she's the the the
- 50:28Speaker 1: speed at which they catch her Definitely suggests they've been
- 50:33Speaker 1: watching her and like observe her going to the room
- 50:37Speaker 1: and finally confront her, but that she's been in their
- 50:41Speaker 1: crosshairs for a minute, which is like honestly pretty embarrassing.
- 50:45Speaker 1: You know, when you think you're kind of getting away
- 50:47Speaker 1: with something to find out that not only are you
- 50:49Speaker 1: not getting away with it because they caught you, but
- 50:52Speaker 1: you haven't been getting away with it either. And they
- 50:54Speaker 1: have been on to you since the start. I always
- 50:57Speaker 1: find that sort of thing to be really, really cringy
- 50:59Speaker 1: because there's going to be a million times where you
- 51:02Speaker 1: did or said something that you thought was genius. And
- 51:06Speaker 1: now it's recontextualized as like kind of cringe because they
- 51:11Speaker 1: were aware, you know? So they want her to tell her,
- 51:17Speaker 1: to tell them who she really is. And this dude
- 51:21Speaker 1: in charge is like, if you're honest with us about
- 51:23Speaker 1: what it is you're doing, we'll give you the favor
- 51:25Speaker 1: of a quick death. And then she tries to pull
- 51:31Speaker 1: something where she says that she is so-and-so and I
- 51:33Speaker 1: can't remember who she is claiming to be here. Um,
- 51:38Speaker 1: but she like misjudges because she really thinks that she's
- 51:41Speaker 1: going to be able to fool them and they are
- 51:45Speaker 1: not fooled kids. They know that that's not who she is.
- 51:48Speaker 1: So it's just like another kind of moment of embarrassment
- 51:51Speaker 1: where she's trying to be high handed and it's like,
- 51:54Speaker 1: come on, stop wasting all of our time. Um, So
- 52:00Speaker 1: Florian says, because they had Ryonosuke the dragon to help
- 52:03Speaker 1: them up the elephant, never forget. See, this is the
- 52:06Speaker 1: thing was that they like mistreated that poor creature to
- 52:09Speaker 1: force it up and just have Robin do it. And
- 52:12Speaker 1: then that poor little creature's life wouldn't have been spent
- 52:16Speaker 1: almost entirely in suffering, but you know, yeah. Anyway, so
- 52:24Speaker 1: they're like, okay, well, if you're not going to tell
- 52:27Speaker 1: us the truth and we're going to have to get
- 52:28Speaker 1: it out of you, And we have a moment of
- 52:31Speaker 1: like terrible screams. And I got to say, the actress
- 52:34Speaker 1: is like killing it. The voice actress for Robin, I
- 52:37Speaker 1: feel like doesn't get called on to emote very much
- 52:40Speaker 1: because of who Robin is. And so it's even more
- 52:44Speaker 1: shocking when Robin just starts screaming. And then we see
- 52:49Speaker 1: her disappear into a bunch of petals. And it turns
- 52:53Speaker 1: out that it was not Robin. It was a clone.
- 52:56Speaker 1: She's in conference mode. on one of the, uh, transponder
- 53:00Speaker 1: snails with Nami and the ninja. And it's like, it's
- 53:06Speaker 1: a real good thing that I use the frigging clone
- 53:08Speaker 1: instead of going in there myself, that would have been bad.
- 53:11Speaker 1: And as they're talking, this guy is like, Hey, everything. Okay.
- 53:16Speaker 1: What's going on? And we had seen like a, um,
- 53:19Speaker 1: shrub moving outside when she's like in the midst of
- 53:23Speaker 1: getting supposedly tortured. Uh, I think that is meant to
- 53:28Speaker 1: have actually been her, right? But this guy, for a moment,
- 53:33Speaker 1: I thought, is this dude like a setup or part
- 53:37Speaker 1: of the plan or what? Apparently not. He's just an
- 53:41Speaker 1: actually like drunk dude who's here to enjoy himself. And
- 53:44Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, that was the most surprising thing
- 53:47Speaker 1: was to have him just be what he seems to
- 53:49Speaker 1: be because I was not ready for that. And she
- 53:51Speaker 1: steals a mask off him and goes back into the,
- 53:57Speaker 1: room with orochi and goes back to like being a
- 54:03Speaker 1: geisha in her mind because the best place to hide
- 54:06Speaker 1: a leaf is in a forest which i the the
- 54:12Speaker 1: the thing is here if they hadn't seen her face
- 54:16Speaker 1: maybe but i am confused about how these people who
- 54:20Speaker 1: are like his personal guard they're not The explanation that
- 54:24Speaker 1: we get is essentially we don't want to disturb his
- 54:27Speaker 1: banquet by busting in there. But if there is a
- 54:31Speaker 1: spy and you realize that they have like slipped, given
- 54:35Speaker 1: you all the slip, I'm going to be very worried
- 54:38Speaker 1: about the guy I'm here to protect. That's going to
- 54:40Speaker 1: like the idea that they just won't even go in
- 54:42Speaker 1: there to check is kind of wild, but it's fine.
- 54:48Speaker 1: And this is where we get the thing where she
- 54:49Speaker 1: is like, getting him to agree to take her to
- 54:53Speaker 1: this like festival thing that, that is being set up.
- 54:56Speaker 1: And he says something like, it sounds like you want
- 54:59Speaker 1: to be my consort. And then all of a sudden
- 55:02Speaker 1: we get the rivalry. Very like it's, it's beginning, but
- 55:07Speaker 1: it's just in its very first moments of Kimura Saki
- 55:14Speaker 1: looking over and being like, excuse me, what the fuck?
- 55:17Speaker 1: And she has been playing her instrument and sort of,
- 55:20Speaker 1: the center of focus on stage. There's like a little stage,
- 55:25Speaker 1: but once she sees that Robin is ingratiating herself is like, okay,
- 55:31Speaker 1: clearly I can't just like be the star of the show.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I have to get down there in the mix if
- 55:36Speaker 1: I want to make some things happen. So Seraphim says,
- 55:43Speaker 1: that makes sense. But given what we've seen of Orochi,
- 55:45Speaker 1: he could very much be the type to have someone
- 55:47Speaker 1: punished for disturbing him, regardless of if they have a
- 55:49Speaker 1: good reason. This is the thing with that, though, is
- 55:53Speaker 1: that that headcanon makes sense. And I would accept it
- 55:59Speaker 1: if we just showed him doing that. All we have
- 56:01Speaker 1: to do is have these guys beginning to poke their
- 56:04Speaker 1: head in and Orochi going, what the fuck? I told
- 56:07Speaker 1: you guys to leave me alone. I'm having a good time.
- 56:10Speaker 1: And then the explanation of why they aren't looking for
- 56:13Speaker 1: her here is taken care of and we don't even
- 56:15Speaker 1: have to wonder about it. so that's, what's frustrating is
- 56:19Speaker 1: like when it's really easy to kind of come up
- 56:21Speaker 1: with a headcanon about a thing, then I shouldn't have
- 56:24Speaker 1: to headcanon it because it should just be there. It
- 56:26Speaker 1: should just be part of things. You know, it doesn't
- 56:29Speaker 1: take long for us to think of it. Why didn't you,
- 56:33Speaker 1: but you know, it's fine. It doesn't matter. The whole
- 56:37Speaker 1: thing is just that he is becoming enchanted by Robin and,
- 56:42Speaker 1: And it's too much. If she is able to outplay
- 56:47Speaker 1: Kimura Saki, that's the problem, is that she has to
- 56:51Speaker 1: in order to achieve this mission and find out what
- 56:53Speaker 1: she needs to. But the more that she tries to
- 56:56Speaker 1: do that, the more she's going to be drawing attention.
- 57:00Speaker 1: And we don't really know much about Kimura Saki's overall
- 57:05Speaker 1: MO other than what we have seen regarding how she
- 57:08Speaker 1: scams these men. I have to assume that Because she
- 57:13Speaker 1: is so utterly ruthless, she would not be above hurting
- 57:18Speaker 1: somebody like Robin if she saw them as a rival
- 57:21Speaker 1: and doing something to like cripple them. And I mean
- 57:23Speaker 1: that literally and figuratively, you know. So I have to
- 57:28Speaker 1: worry about Robin's safety a little bit in this. What
- 57:32Speaker 1: this keeps making me think of, honestly, you guys, is Showgirls.
- 57:35Speaker 1: And that's a movie that I can't recommend because it's
- 57:39Speaker 1: not great. But there is a very over the top
- 57:43Speaker 1: soapy melodrama of like the rivalry between performers and how
- 57:47Speaker 1: far they're willing to go to like be the headliner.
- 57:51Speaker 1: So I also like last section forgot to mention about
- 57:58Speaker 1: Frankie who finds out that the guy he's been working
- 58:02Speaker 1: for that he was depending on getting all of these
- 58:04Speaker 1: blueprints from. actually like sold them to somebody and that
- 58:08Speaker 1: person gave them away and yada, yada. And Frankie just
- 58:11Speaker 1: starts to like completely lose his shit because he goes
- 58:15Speaker 1: from one person to another following the trail of like
- 58:19Speaker 1: who bought them and where they are. And he is
- 58:22Speaker 1: not able to track them down. And I think Frankie
- 58:25Speaker 1: says something about like, that's like a year of my
- 58:29Speaker 1: life that I won't get back. And he is genuinely
- 58:32Speaker 1: like distraught over it. And I was like, oh man,
- 58:34Speaker 1: that really does suck. But anyway, I'm over time here.
- 58:40Speaker 1: So I am going to have to wrap this up.
- 58:41Speaker 1: But I think that I talked about pretty much everything here.
- 58:48Speaker 1: If there's something major that I'm forgetting, let me know.
- 58:51Speaker 1: But I am really looking forward to seeing how things
- 58:54Speaker 1: develop with Big Moms. And also like what the fuck
- 58:57Speaker 1: with Luffy in jail right now? I've talked before about
- 59:00Speaker 1: how we always need to have a way that we
- 59:02Speaker 1: can sideline Luffy because he's a little too powerful. And
- 59:06Speaker 1: having him get arrested is actually one of my favorites
- 59:08Speaker 1: so far. Um, arrested in this particular way because we
- 59:12Speaker 1: we had a whole impel down thing and i really
- 59:16Speaker 1: loved that especially because he's teaming up with buggy of
- 59:19Speaker 1: course but um this being like he gets brought to
- 59:26Speaker 1: the place that the rest of like innocent villagers are
- 59:30Speaker 1: being exploited as well. It gives us good insight into
- 59:35Speaker 1: what's going on and how things are being handled over there.
- 59:38Speaker 1: So it feels like it's serving two purposes. Yeah. I'm
- 59:45Speaker 1: a fan of this so far. All right, guys, I'm
- 59:48Speaker 1: going to wrap up. Thank you again for hanging out.
- 59:50Speaker 1: Thank you to Michael for commissioning this one. And until
- 59:54Speaker 1: next time, Toodle-oo, motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network podcast.
