- 0:02Well, shiver my Timbers and shiver my soul, because on May
- 0:0512th, we're getting another live Muppet script reading, this time
- 0:08hitting the seven seas as they take on Muppet Treasure Island.
- 0:12As always, Tough Pigs is on board to present the official
- 0:15Companion podcast, which I can luckily do on land because
- 0:18genuinely, I get really bad seasickness.
- 0:22Joining me, as always, is the show's director and producer,
- 0:25and a good friend to us at Tough Pigs, it's Matt Wilkie.
- 0:27Hey, Matt. Hey, Jared.
- 0:28Hey everybody. And our guest today is a
- 0:32comedian, writer and improviser who has appeared in shows like
- 0:34Dropouts, Make Some Noise, I'm Actually and Dirty Laundry.
- 0:37They also wrote the Hulu film Prom Dates and currently host a
- 0:41very funny podcast called Conversion Therapy.
- 0:43They'll be playing Spat am in the Muppet Treasure, Scriptland,
- 0:47Scriptland. Scriptland.
- 0:49Will their role get them sued by the spam company like the Jim
- 0:51Henson Company? There's only one way to find
- 0:53out. Please welcome DJ Mausna.
- 0:55Hi, DJ. Hi that's me, the spam shell.
- 0:59The spam are you, did you know DJ, that spam sued the Jim
- 1:05Henson Company. I did know that, and I believe
- 1:08that the case was thrown out because it's spelled SPA
- 1:11apostrophe AM. For that reason, it's not
- 1:14considered 1 to 1 is. That correct I, I assume so I
- 1:17don't know. I think it's also just because I
- 1:19think even like the courts looked at this and went, are you
- 1:22guys kidding? Like move.
- 1:23On, move on. Absolutely.
- 1:25It's also free advertising. Exactly.
- 1:28Yeah. Well, I'm very excited to have
- 1:31you here, DJ. Can you tell us what's your
- 1:33history with The Muppets? Oh, super big Muppet fan came
- 1:38from a big Muppet family. I still have some of the
- 1:41original VH s s of their of the Muppet Show.
- 1:46Specifically when they put a couple episodes together for
- 1:49like the Halloween episodes. You know?
- 1:51Like I remember very distinctly the Vincent Price episode, the
- 1:54Alice Cooper episode. I remember also as a kid
- 1:58particularly loving the Robin and Kermit and you know, many
- 2:02others of the Muppet cast doing Octopuses Garden and how magical
- 2:09that number was with the puppets.
- 2:11Because I remember being like, it was a lot of wides and we got
- 2:14to see all sorts of things floating through the ocean.
- 2:16Just as a kid I found that incredibly charming.
- 2:18And then as I got, you know, more into my career as I got
- 2:22older, I was incredibly lucky to write on a Nickelodeon show
- 2:26called Max and the Midnights, which is kind of like Lord of
- 2:28the Rings for kids energy. And some of the people behind
- 2:32that were people who were part of the original Henson Studios.
- 2:35So worked with Dave Skelly, Kirk Thatcher, who was the Co writer,
- 2:38of course, on Mount the Treasure Island, as well as John
- 2:41Stevenson and getting to hear their stories.
- 2:44Every once in a while we'd be talking about something for the
- 2:47show and one of them would go, yeah, you know, well, like Jim
- 2:49always used to say, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 2:51And I'm like Jim Patterson, you know, which was an insane
- 2:56experience to have as a as a massive, massive fan.
- 3:00So I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this reading.
- 3:03I've enjoyed all of Matt's programming and to get to play
- 3:07spot AM no better character quite frankly in my opinion.
- 3:12I mean, it's the best 1, so yeah.
- 3:14How are you feeling now being involved in a script reading?
- 3:16So you've seen the others? Yeah, I saw the live stream of
- 3:20The Muppet Christmas Carol. I love.
- 3:23Well, I mean, Matt has such an incredible way of bringing the
- 3:26perfect casts together because you know, the the it's not
- 3:31necessarily always supposed to be 1 to one, but I do meaning
- 3:35that the character that the actor is playing is the actors
- 3:39trying to play it exactly like the original actors were in
- 3:42puppeteers and Muppeteers were were playing the character.
- 3:45But I do genuinely feel like Matt has a great eye of like
- 3:48nabbing the essence of the characters, which is part of the
- 3:53fun. I mean, working the idea of like
- 3:56Nina W as Miss Piggy, like calm, odd, you know?
- 4:01And then obviously some of my other pals who have been in
- 4:03other other iterations of shows like Ruha Tessalini, who's like
- 4:09a human muppet themselves, a good friend of mine that's said
- 4:11with love, of course, and Ruhan knows that.
- 4:14Or Giovanni, you know, these people who naturally just kind
- 4:18of like channel those like very, very funny, just so happens to
- 4:23be appropriate for all ages. Brightness, lightness, but also
- 4:27like wryness and genuine like point blank period hilarious
- 4:32sketch kind of vibes. At least what I'm thinking in
- 4:36the Muppet Showroom. And then Muppet movie wise, it
- 4:39only gets better from there. Yeah, you're not wrong, Matt.
- 4:43You've Matt, you your your eye for casting is impeccable.
- 4:49Truly. And, well, can you talk about
- 4:51casting DJ as Fat Anne? I mean, like, talk about a no
- 4:56brainer. It was so, so easy.
- 4:59DJ is someone who I've, I've been a fan of for a long time.
- 5:04DJ and I got to work together once before on a a live stream
- 5:12fundraiser that we were doing separately from the Muppet
- 5:14script. But it was someone who worked
- 5:16there, a good friend of mine, Langston, was setting this up
- 5:20and we were raising funds for some anti ice demonstrations
- 5:25and, and different things. And so like I said, we need
- 5:29something to fill up this time. And so we're taking all kinds of
- 5:32pictures. And I said, well, we couldn't do
- 5:33a full script reading in this 15 minute slot.
- 5:36So what if we did an improvised version of The Muppet Show?
- 5:40And so we did like this really quick version.
- 5:42DJ was the first person I reached out to because I knew
- 5:45how great they were at improv and how much they loved Muppets.
- 5:49And so it was our first time interacting and they came out
- 5:54and they played Kermit for that show pretty much.
- 5:57That was like the main they were doing.
- 5:59Nailed it already. I was a huge.
- 6:01Fan. Yeah.
- 6:03And so when it came time for this next show, one of the first
- 6:06people I thought of and it was just so fortunate that they were
- 6:11available and so wonderful that they saw we're, we'll talk about
- 6:15this a little bit, but we're tweaking the character of spam
- 6:18just a little bit, as well as the other boards.
- 6:21And when I pitched the approach to that, DJ immediately got it
- 6:26was immediately on board and said, yes.
- 6:28And this is how we can make it cool.
- 6:29And this is how we can make it more inclusive.
- 6:31And this is how we can make it funnier.
- 6:33And their performance is going to be I'm, I already know, just
- 6:37amazing and I can't wait to see it.
- 6:39I can't we don't stop a couple of.
- 6:46Days like we'll get to the balls in just a SEC.
- 6:48Are there any other casting announcements you wanna make?
- 6:50Who, who? Who else have we got?
- 6:53Yeah, yeah, so, so this week we're we're kind of trickling
- 6:56out the full announcements and some of them I think will be a
- 6:59surprise in the day of as well. But we've got a lot of returning
- 7:03favourites. So previously mentioned Nina W
- 7:05as Miss Piggy will be back. And I love them so much.
- 7:09I'm so excited that they're going to be around for this one.
- 7:11And Nina loves doing the show. She absolutely loves it.
- 7:14So it's wonderful that they're back again.
- 7:17We'll have Mark Evan Jackson as Kermit and I love him to death,
- 7:22but then we also have some new folks.
- 7:24So our Fozzie Bear this time is going to be Betsy Sedaro.
- 7:28And Betsy is super excited and and for this version of Fozzie
- 7:33especially, it's going to be such a great fit.
- 7:36We also have also previously mentioned Kirk Thatcher will be
- 7:40in the show as well, so go away. OK, I'm just going to reach out
- 7:44to him, but I didn't know if he knew about the reading.
- 7:46And I was like, why don't you talk too bad first?
- 7:47That's hilarious. I can't wait to see Kirk Kirk
- 7:50televise. We have who do we have Kirk
- 7:52play? He will be playing Mr. Billy
- 7:54Bones and yes. Of course he will.
- 7:57And you know what, As someone who's gone to many Renaissance
- 8:00fairs with Kirk, I have no doubt he's going to show up and show
- 8:03up with that costume. So get those live stream tickets
- 8:06because that man knows how to wear eyeliner.
- 8:08Let me tell you something about that.
- 8:12We also have it's it, it was mentioned but I don't think
- 8:15folks really picked up on it. We have a pirate icon playing
- 8:20another pirate in our show. So in the role of Mad Monty, we
- 8:23have Dante Basco, Rufio himself from and I think that's so cool
- 8:30that we have like like it was like 2 years apart these movies.
- 8:34And so to have such an icon of one version of a pirate playing
- 8:38whatever he's going to play it as is going to be so great.
- 8:41I love it, I love it and I hope someone just shouts that Rufio
- 8:45during it and absolutely I won't be there.
- 8:48DJ, if you can take care of that for me, that'll be wonderful.
- 8:51Yes, no problem. I'll be sure to do that.
- 8:53I'm sure he'll love that. Probably no one's ever said it,
- 8:58no. One's ever done it?
- 9:02For him. All right, Matt, So you said you
- 9:04were going to tweak the pigs and the balls.
- 9:06We're telling the pigs. Yep.
- 9:08Tell me, tell me, what does that involve?
- 9:09What does that look like? So the boars are a product of
- 9:151996 that I think really needed an upgrade.
- 9:19We I looked at the script in the movie again and I said to
- 9:23myself, this is not very friendly, this this portrayal
- 9:27and it's just a product of the time.
- 9:28It's it's nothing to insult the writers or anything like that.
- 9:31So our version, we're going to upgrade it a little bit to be
- 9:34more inclusive. And the thought process that I
- 9:37put behind this was if the boars learned English from Miss Piggy,
- 9:44and if we know that Benjamina Gunn, her mother was French, she
- 9:47was going to come in from France.
- 9:49So if she's teaching them English, she might have a bit of
- 9:51a French accent to it. And so our version of Spam and
- 9:55all of the boars will have a nice little French accent
- 9:58instead of the little less friendly version that they had
- 10:02in the film. Yeah, OK.
- 10:04Yeah, the, the, I love this twist too, when Matt and I were
- 10:08talking about the character. I'm Canadian.
- 10:10I'm originally from Toronto, but I lived in Montreal for six
- 10:12years. And so I speak some French and
- 10:15my French is very heavily Quebecois accented, which is
- 10:19arguably the gruffer cousin of the Parisian accent.
- 10:22And so I honestly think it's a hilarious overlay for, you know,
- 10:26Spam to be like, you know, this kind of like honking rounded
- 10:31French that I think lends itself to the character very well.
- 10:35So super amped about that change for the reasons of being more
- 10:40accessible and for the reasons of I think it's going to be
- 10:43hilarious. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:45That's that's a fun little change.
- 10:47And yeah, you're right. It probably it wasn't anything
- 10:53that I really thought about until you Matt, you said to me,
- 10:56I think last week that, you know, you're looking at changing
- 10:58the pigs. And so I went back and watched
- 11:00some of those scenes and was like oh in my 7 year old mind
- 11:04when I saw this, this wasn't an issue.
- 11:06But now I'm like I see it. Yeah, what what helped a lot was
- 11:11so I was kind of toying with this idea and my wife and our Co
- 11:15producer for the show Grace, we were watching the movie and we
- 11:19were like, we've got Disney plus, we can change the
- 11:21language, why don't we see what that would look like?
- 11:24And so we changed the language to French and we watched the
- 11:26scene with Spam and it was hilarious, first of all.
- 11:31And then what that led us to was the greatest discovery, which is
- 11:35that the French version of Muppet Treasure Island is
- 11:39bonkers. And I almost want to say better
- 11:43than my wife's. She this is her favorite Muppet
- 11:47movie and she agrees. She said, I don't, I I love
- 11:51Muppet Treasure Island, but Leo Treasure Leo de Treasure Dons le
- 11:57Muppets is even better. And so the best best part
- 12:02though, is that they're all doing it's not like a one to one
- 12:07translation for a lot of the songs because they want to kind
- 12:10of make they they're very aware of like making them the lips
- 12:14movements match and also like making it a little more
- 12:18accessible. So the love song is not called
- 12:21love lettuce here. It is called Bonjour Lamour and
- 12:26it is beautiful. So if you have a chance and you
- 12:29have like the either the DVD or if you're watching it on Disney
- 12:33Plus and you want to change the languages to French, highly
- 12:35recommend that scene. It is really, really sweet.
- 12:38That's incredible. I have to do that, being that I
- 12:42think I would understand probably 90% of it.
- 12:45You know, I'm like, I got to just watch it in French, no
- 12:47subtitles, and just enjoy the movie.
- 12:49That's so cool. I love that.
- 12:53I love it. When do all the pirates laugh?
- 12:55Do they laugh like. They.
- 12:58Do chase bug. Like like you would think like
- 13:02even in Shiver My Timbers, when it's like that one part of the
- 13:06where you're getting where it's like that is in French, it's
- 13:10like. Chanel, Chanel.
- 13:14Yeah. Wow, I love that.
- 13:18That's one of the numbers I'm really looking forward to seeing
- 13:20is Shiver My Timbers, because it's unlike anything that has
- 13:25been in any other Muppet movie. Yes, yes, this movie is really
- 13:30like it's it's set and filmed like a musical more than any
- 13:34other Muppet movie in my mind. And so when we were when we were
- 13:37coming up, we have some really, I'm not going to spoil it, but
- 13:39we have a really fun sequence that goes with Shiver My Timbers
- 13:45in the theater that's really going to impress people, I think
- 13:47all. Right, looking forward to it.
- 13:51DJ, are you a fan of spam? Spam in general, yes.
- 13:56I mean, unfortunately, these days I'm pescetarian, but living
- 13:59in Los Angeles means that we have access to so many
- 14:01different, like, foods in place of other foods for people with
- 14:06dietary restrictions. And I believe it's called
- 14:08Smorgasburg, which feels like a Muppet word of itself.
- 14:12That happens in LA where it's like a bunch of food trucks
- 14:14gathered. Sometimes there's like record
- 14:16sales people and like, you know, selling vintage clothes and
- 14:18whatever. And there's a truck that does a
- 14:20vegan Spam Masubi that's so good.
- 14:24So it's fake Spam, but it tastes so unbelievably good.
- 14:29So in that regard, yes. And I also like, I'm somebody
- 14:32who when I travel, I'm like, well, I'm not going to not eat
- 14:36the meat thing and try it. So my hope is at some point to
- 14:39like, actually get to a place who's making like Spam Missouri
- 14:42or using Spam. Or I can just enjoy it.
- 14:46Nice, lovely. You talked before about the fact
- 14:49that, like, Kirk Thatcher's definitely going to dress up.
- 14:52Umm DJ, have you thought about a cost?
- 14:56I have there's elements of it that I need to keep under wraps,
- 15:01but I want the costume to reflect one that changes we're
- 15:04talking about to kind of the the the background and the accent of
- 15:08the character, but also to reflect like the fun Muppet E
- 15:11Nos. You know, there's something one
- 15:14of the things that I really admire about The Muppets is
- 15:17aside from how funny it is and aside from the star power of
- 15:20bringing in incredible actors, human actors, aside from the the
- 15:24the incredible and like kind of unbelievable muppeteering.
- 15:30The puppets themselves are beautiful.
- 15:32Like these are these are works of art.
- 15:33These are characters that are so defined.
- 15:35I had that. Well, actually, it was my
- 15:38brother's. So I don't want to take his his
- 15:40objects, but I we had when I was growing up that that big book of
- 15:43like kind of like Muppet lore. And it's where Kermit is ripping
- 15:48through like white paper on the front of the book.
- 15:50And I remember distinctly just, you know, I'm talking about that
- 15:53with the white paper and the he's like in the kind of the
- 15:55negative space exactly that he, I remember just thinking his his
- 16:01design is so distinct. Obviously it was turned into
- 16:03like the Henson logo and even moving to LA and seeing like the
- 16:06Kermit in that tower, you know, like that there's something
- 16:10about wanting to really nail down like an iconic silhouette.
- 16:13And I'm hoping to do that with with elements of my costume.
- 16:16I'm trying not to be too vague, but I wanted to feel, I wanted
- 16:21to feel equal parts in the world of Treasure Island, Muppets and
- 16:26Pig. So take that 3 circle bed
- 16:29diagram and find the center and that's where that's where I'll
- 16:32be. Folks, this is exactly why I
- 16:36love DJ and needed to have them on this show because you would
- 16:41not get analysis like that from Ebony and.
- 16:45I appreciate it. I mean, listen, this movie is my
- 16:48favorite Muppet movie. I know.
- 16:49Controversial to say, given that it's it's not necessarily
- 16:52directed by Jim Henson. It is my favorite.
- 16:54It was huge growing up. My siblings and I used to in our
- 16:57basement do a reenactment of Cabin Fever where we'd have my
- 17:00sister lay on the the table in the basement and then rise up
- 17:04like this, like, and I worked kind of hilariously a couple
- 17:09years ago, I worked on a cruise ship for for several months as
- 17:12an improviser, as a comedian. And one of the first things I
- 17:14put on a hard drive, so I had things to watch while I was in
- 17:17the open seas, was a Treasure Island.
- 17:19And we watched it over and over again.
- 17:21And you know, the, the like kind of deep plot of all the rats,
- 17:25like being on a cruise. They're like margaritas at the
- 17:29midnight buffet. That line, like it was all of us
- 17:32in our cast of improvisers was quoting that to each other when
- 17:35we were getting margaritas at the midnight buffet.
- 17:37You know, it's just what you did.
- 17:39So yeah, I really can't wait to see all the ways that Matt Matt
- 17:42sets up this performance to just sing.
- 17:44I love it. Yeah, this is one of my
- 17:46favourites as well. This is the first film I can
- 17:50remember seeing in theaters. I don't think it is the first
- 17:54film, but it's the first one that I can trace my mind back to
- 17:58in a cinema that was literally 404 hundred metres.
- 18:02That's me being Australian from my house now, that's now closed,
- 18:06which I'm really disappointed about.
- 18:08But yeah, I have AI have a deep affection for this, for this
- 18:11film as well. And like, I don't know if you
- 18:14know, but like in the Muppet world or in the Muppet fan
- 18:17world, I should say this isn't a particularly well loved film,
- 18:23which is strange. So I love it and I'm looking
- 18:26forward to seeing what you guys do with it.
- 18:27And I'm you'll change their minds, I'm sure.
- 18:30Oh yeah. Oh yeah, that's that is you.
- 18:34Know please, please, Matt. Yeah.
- 18:36Oh, thank you. So I think a fun idea and I
- 18:40might not do this, but I might like take a little poll at the
- 18:43beginning and then take another poll at the end because I would
- 18:45love to know if we if we truly can change someone's mind.
- 18:49Yeah. Oh, totally.
- 18:51Well, I feel like also, you know, sometimes that opinion can
- 18:54come from Muppet purists who, you know, know them, love them,
- 18:57respect them. And also the idea of being like,
- 18:59well, you know, some of the more beautiful parts of Muppet movies
- 19:02were like the ways that they essentially like reinvigorated
- 19:06the medium of puppetry and like Kermit riding the bicycle, you
- 19:09know, like things like this, like like feast for the Eyes or
- 19:12like, oh, we're bringing in celebrities that ultimately like
- 19:15are playing bit parts on the backdrop of a, of a broader
- 19:18story that's set in an archetype.
- 19:20But I feel like like something like Muppet Treasure Island
- 19:22falls into the same category of Muppet Christmas Carol, where of
- 19:25course, not only is it taking a classic story and reinventing it
- 19:28with The Muppets, but I feel like there's not really anyone
- 19:32other than Michael Caine in the Muppet universe of human actors
- 19:37like Tim Curry, who just slots right in.
- 19:41Like that is somebody who based in his career, based in, I think
- 19:46his performances, like his being a music man, you know, having a
- 19:50musical background. I feel like he is he's a Muppet.
- 19:54The Muppets are him, you know, like it's like they fit so well.
- 19:57And he's again, one of those actors that just makes you feel
- 19:59like every interaction happening with a Muppet is between two
- 20:02actors and not an actor and a puppeteer, which, you know, of
- 20:06course puppeteers are actors, but you know what I mean?
- 20:08Like holding the puppet into frame versus two people.
- 20:11And I think that's part of what makes it so striking because he
- 20:14he as a kid, I remember first of all the black spot section at
- 20:19the very beginning of the movie being genuinely tear.
- 20:23Ah, the black spot, being frightened so much as a kid and
- 20:28then moving into meeting, you know, Tim Curry's character and
- 20:33seeing how he interacts with Jim and kind of being this like,
- 20:36father figure and congenial, but then also this kind of like
- 20:39darkness lurking. Like, that's the kind of big
- 20:43world like focus on wonder that I think The Muppets do so well.
- 20:48And anyways, oh, let's just say haters, forward your mail to my
- 20:51address and I'll read you a big long essay as to why this is the
- 20:54best movie ever made. Well, you know, that leads me to
- 20:59my next question. Matt, have you got, have you got
- 21:01a black spot? Like, let's talk a little about
- 21:03the props that are coming up. Oh yeah, of course.
- 21:07Yeah, we have. We have a wonderful, wonderful
- 21:10my other Co producer, Missy Steele, and she is absolutely
- 21:14great at props. And so we're gonna have so many
- 21:17fun props. We'll have swords, we'll have
- 21:19flintlocks, we'll have treasure chests and compasses and and
- 21:24we'll have probably a talking vegetable in there as well.
- 21:29There's, there's going to be a lot of really fun stuff.
- 21:31Yeah, yes, absolutely. I, I in the beginning, I, when
- 21:38I, when we first started doing the shows, I debated how much
- 21:42prop do you want? Because you don't want to take
- 21:45away, you don't want to encumber the actors where they're having
- 21:47to like put things all over their bodies so they can pull
- 21:49them out for one moment in one scene.
- 21:52But there are some things that are truly iconic and that
- 21:56absolutely need to be seen. So if if you've seen our Muppet
- 22:00Scriptness Carol show, it's about that same level where
- 22:04you're going to see some some really fun props coming up.
- 22:07Beautiful. I mean, I know we're not a big
- 22:09fan of guns, but have we got boom boom sticks?
- 22:13We've got a couple of boom boom sticks, beautiful with with that
- 22:16bright orange cap on the front, so you know that.
- 22:20There. And of course, have you got a
- 22:22gong that you can just throw Mark Evan Jackson into?
- 22:27I don't know if I'll have you know, I got AI have to ask our
- 22:30drummer Dana Wickens if she has maybe, maybe we have a gong.
- 22:35She might have one. So stay tuned for that.
- 22:38Again, I want to see Mark just run at it as hard as he can.
- 22:42Man doesn't I need those. I've listened to the Good Place
- 22:44podcast. I need to see those limp limbs,
- 22:48Kermit limbs. Limbs smashing, Yeah.
- 22:52So look not to look too forward because, you know, we've still
- 22:55got this one to go. But DJ, is there anyone you'd
- 22:58like to pitch yourself as to Matt now going forward for like,
- 23:01say, Muppets? Muppets from space.
- 23:05Oh, that's a tough one. I mean, especially Muppets from
- 23:09space. I actually saw that a couple
- 23:10years ago with the other writers of that Nick show at the New
- 23:14Beverly Inn in Los Angeles. And it's such a beautiful one.
- 23:20There's not someone in particular.
- 23:22I mean, I feel like I, I have a, my, my personality.
- 23:26If I were to do sort of Muppets astrology, I would say that I'm
- 23:30a scooter son. Kermit Moon and an animal
- 23:36rising, you know, so there's like this very like
- 23:39perfectionist streak. I think I'm often like, let me,
- 23:43you know, lead us. And then the nervousness of like
- 23:46wanting to put on a good show and then just being an absolute
- 23:48freak is kind of mixed in there too.
- 23:50So any sort of roles in there I would be more than happy to do.
- 23:54I mean, it's also though, like the ways that I've seen, like
- 23:57the characters, the actors that Marcus Cass play, the characters
- 24:01that they had before, they really are beautiful.
- 24:03Like they walk the line between knowing how to hit all those
- 24:05comedic like Marks and, you know, genuinely putting on a
- 24:07good show. And then those really touching,
- 24:11touching moments where you're like you, you feel it, you know,
- 24:16they'll like keep on dreaming, keep pretending.
- 24:19Like when you see that, that scene in the movie, you're like,
- 24:22you know, you feel brought in. It's like a hug.
- 24:25And I, I feel like, you know, any casting that Matt's doing is
- 24:29the right casting. So I I put it in his very
- 24:33capable hands. Look again, not to not I'm in a
- 24:36fan cast here. I think you'd make it a
- 24:39thriller. I think you'd make a killer K
- 24:42Edgar singer. So like the the villain in.
- 24:46The Jimmy. Tambor role, I think you'd be
- 24:48wonderful. That is a massive compliment.
- 24:52I would love to play that role. And listen, I think there's no
- 24:56more fun character to play than an evil guy.
- 24:59Keep getting my head. Keep in the back of your head,
- 25:01Matt. It's.
- 25:01There, it's there. I think legally I have to ask
- 25:07this question to everyone who's ever been on Make Some Noise DJ.
- 25:10As I said before, I did rewatch your episode last night and
- 25:13loved it. Who were your ideal Muppet Co
- 25:15stars for a game that makes some noise?
- 25:18That is such a good question. OK, I'm trying to think of you
- 25:24gotta have Fozzie in there, right?
- 25:26Like I feel like also if I knew the Muppet Gang and I didn't
- 25:28invite Fozzie, it would be like, now that's just rude.
- 25:31That's this whole thing, you know, like you got a lot of and
- 25:34then I'm trying to think of like AI mean.
- 25:39I think because I love physical humor and I love stunts.
- 25:42Maybe Gonzo, if he's allowed to bring Candace's GF, you know, to
- 25:47clock around the set. Because I think those two are
- 25:50not only like, I feel they're, they're, they're kind of like
- 25:55Swiss army knife players in the Muppet Show in general, where
- 25:58they have their like core things that they do, but they've been
- 26:01swapped in and out of things like Gonzo being one of the
- 26:05narrators or like omniscient voices in A Muppet Christmas
- 26:08Carol or like Fozzie playing Fezziwig for the characters.
- 26:12You know, the character rather he's playing in Muppet Treasure
- 26:14Island to, you know, his stand up comedy persona.
- 26:17Though controversially, my favorite Muppet is Rolf.
- 26:22I think that he's an under sung hero, also voiced by Henson.
- 26:26Obviously muppeteered by Henson and I just feel we would need
- 26:33him behind the camera, you know what I mean?
- 26:34Or musical accompaniment maybe? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:38I also think you could give give Ralph Sanskill.
- 26:44Oh my God, the connection between Sam and Rolf.
- 26:47You just blew my mind. There needs to be fan art made
- 26:51of that. Like immediately it just Rolf at
- 26:53the desk in a little suit with the glasses and the fight the
- 26:56fuzzer shut. Up that's.
- 26:58Really. That now I love that.
- 27:01Family, do it. Do it please.
- 27:04I'll send it please. I need it.
- 27:08Matt, remind us who we're supporting.
- 27:10Oh, I would love to thank you for asking.
- 27:13So for each show, as you know, we do a different charitable
- 27:16organization that we are supporting.
- 27:18And this time around I am so, so happy and proud to say that we
- 27:23are going to be supporting the California Collaborative for
- 27:26Immigrant Justice. This is an organization that
- 27:29utilizes coordination, advocacy, and legal services to fight for
- 27:34the liberation of immigrants in detention in California.
- 27:38I know I said this last time, but I'll say it every time.
- 27:40Fuck ICE and I cannot. Say that.
- 27:43Enough, yes, All right. So we are very happy that we're
- 27:49going to be able to give support to this wonderful organization
- 27:52that helps folks who are in these attention centers and need
- 27:56to be released immediately. So I'm very, very glad.
- 28:01Love it. How can people get their live
- 28:03stream tickets Because the in person tickets sold out in 3
- 28:07minutes I think you said last time.
- 28:09It was yes, yes, Grace always says make sure you say under 3
- 28:12minutes. She's there.
- 28:14She's like, she's like say under 3 minutes.
- 28:17Yes, we sold out in under 3 minutes.
- 28:18It was a wonderful crazy morning.
- 28:21But the great thing about these shows is every single one we've
- 28:25done, we have live streamed so you can catch the live stream.
- 28:28It'll live air. It'll air live on the same
- 28:32night, May 12th, next Tuesday at 7:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.
- 28:37It will also be available to view after that for up to two
- 28:41weeks. And you can get those tickets at
- 28:44dynasty.tv. Looking forward to it.
- 28:48Also real quick, I want to plug the coming very soon, probably
- 28:52within the next few days. I don't know if it's up today,
- 28:56but by the time folks are listening, this should be up.
- 28:59We will have on dynasty.tv in our our landing page our
- 29:04previous shows that haven't been up yet.
- 29:05So Muppets Take Scripthatten and Muppets Script.

- 29:12also going to have some bundles that you can buy in addition to
- 29:15the live stream tickets, so check that out, dynasty.tv.
- 29:20DJ, before I wrap up as well, can you just tell people a
- 29:23little bit about conversion therapy?
- 29:24Because I listened to a little bit of it yesterday and giggled
- 29:28like a madman. Oh, I'm so glad you asked.
- 29:31Yes, incredible intro. Can you tell us a little bit
- 29:35about Conversion therapy? Well, how much time do you have?
- 29:38Conversion Therapy is a podcast where I play a couple different
- 29:42characters. 1 is a a male pastor named Pastor Toot Whitley, who's
- 29:47kind of like a southern gentleman with who's a reformed
- 29:50homosexuals he refers to himself, who works with Los
- 29:53Angeles's gayest comedians to help them convert from gay to
- 29:57straight. Sometimes that means enlisting
- 29:59the help of masculinity coach Skid Beef, who's kind of like a
- 30:02manosphere red pilled kind of man, or femininity coach Vanessa
- 30:07Fi Gap very much runs in this sort of like Erica Kirk, like
- 30:12women of the right realm. The podcast format is I assess
- 30:19the guests level of homosexuality.
- 30:22Then we bring in the masculine under femininity coach and then
- 30:24the third part we go air quotes six months later where the
- 30:28conversion has been successful and we interview the guest who
- 30:31is now successfully straight and they get to play character in
- 30:34and of themselves. The idea was born of thinking
- 30:39conversion therapy is so ridiculous outside of the
- 30:42experiences of my friends who have been in it and some of the
- 30:44guests who've been on the show or who will be future guests
- 30:48this season have experienced outside of the serious nature of
- 30:52that. It's ridiculous to think that
- 30:54you could change someone and and think that any part of someone
- 30:57that they are naturally is is wrong.
- 30:59And So what better way to do that than to lampoon the whole
- 31:02thing? And yeah, it's, it's fun, It's
- 31:06stupid. We have an Instagram account at
- 31:07Conversion Therapy Pod where I published some clips.
- 31:10But all of the episodes so far as of today's recording date,
- 31:15there are three episodes out can be listened to any place you get
- 31:19your podcasts. DJ can you tell people where
- 31:23they can find you? Yes, you can find me on
- 31:26Instagram at at DJ Mausner or most Monday nights at UCB
- 31:31Theatre in LA with Herald Team Dance Club Remix.
- 31:35Love it. And Matt, where can people find
- 31:37you? You can find me at that Matt
- 31:40Wilkie on Instagram as well and also you can check out the show
- 31:44page The Muppet script at The Muppet Script.
- 31:46OK. And where can people find you
- 31:48physically? Like what's your address?
- 31:50It is.
