- 0:00Speaker 1: We're back with another episode of Patriots Draft Countdown presented
- 0:03Speaker 1: by bud Light. Today we're breaking down the front seven,
- 0:05Speaker 1: the latest mock drafts, and some.
- 0:07Speaker 2: News from the owner's meetings. Let's do it.
- 0:09Speaker 3: We're the thirty.
- 0:10Speaker 4: First gigs the New England Patriots.
- 0:12Speaker 1: What welcome everybody to Patriots Draft Countdown presented by bud Light.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Bud Light Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy, the official
- 0:23Speaker 1: beer sponsor of the New England Patriots, and.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Guys, just a few weeks here to go. We're counting
- 0:27Speaker 2: down to the draft.
- 0:28Speaker 5: Not a ton of.
- 0:29Speaker 1: News this week, but ev let's start with us. We
- 0:30Speaker 1: put out our mock drafts. I think we were pretty great,
- 0:32Speaker 1: weren't they.
- 0:33Speaker 5: I thought I nailed it. I mean, I don't know
- 0:34Speaker 5: about you, but you know, I thought it was pretty good.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 0:38Speaker 5: I took the supposedly if if the Patriots get Aj
- 0:44Speaker 5: Brown trade route. My second one will be if they
- 0:47Speaker 5: don't get Aj Brown in that direction. But the more
- 0:50Speaker 5: I thought about it, the more I thought it did
- 0:52Speaker 5: make some sense to take that tackle there at the
- 0:54Speaker 5: top of the first round. Whether it's you know, Morgan
- 0:57Speaker 5: Moses successor will Cam insurance, whichever way you want to
- 1:01Speaker 5: look at it. I do think it makes a little
- 1:03Speaker 5: bit of sense there, just because of the depth of
- 1:06Speaker 5: the positions and go find those edgreshers and those guys
- 1:09Speaker 5: on day two early day three. But the tackles, there's
- 1:13Speaker 5: a gap. There's a drop off pretty significantly after the
- 1:15Speaker 5: first round.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Guys.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that I went with the edge.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Paul and we talked in this episode here today we
- 1:20Speaker 1: got a giant We're talking tech, defensive tackles, defensive ends
- 1:23Speaker 1: as well as linebackers, all kinds of positions in the
- 1:26Speaker 1: need that we could probably consider for the Patriots.
- 1:27Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Yeah, edge to me is at the top of the list.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I really want a wide receiver too, But in terms
- 1:33Speaker 3: of the probably the biggest need on the roster would
- 1:35Speaker 3: be on the edge. And you know, stay tuned because
- 1:39Speaker 3: we're going to get a lot of guys mentioned and
- 1:41Speaker 3: a lot of guys you know, Evan is going to
- 1:43Speaker 3: go into great detail on But it is a pretty
- 1:46Speaker 3: deep class and I think that's that's exciting when when
- 1:48Speaker 3: the needs sort of line up with the availability.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, well we have Chris Matisa gonna break down.
- 1:53Speaker 6: Evan and Iesmock were reviewed both at ther drafts and
- 1:57Speaker 6: we each a three round block that both a differenthilosophies,
- 2:00Speaker 6: but both were interesting. So we reviewed both of your guys.
- 2:03Speaker 6: We did a three round monck.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Was your what was your philosophy in your three round monket?
- 2:06Speaker 6: I was closer to you, Douce. That's why I don't
- 2:08Speaker 6: want to spoil it. But let's just say Chris had
- 2:11Speaker 6: a sleeper pick coming at the second round, which I
- 2:14Speaker 6: thought was interesting. So you'll probably talk about it more
- 2:16Speaker 6: on the front.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Try to do that.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's just a little bit of news that
- 2:21Speaker 1: we heard from Mike Frable down at the owners meetings.
- 2:23Speaker 1: We talked to Mike Rabel again mentioned the tight end group.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So I think we all need to if you're watching
- 2:28Speaker 1: this show, you got to be aware of this tight
- 2:30Speaker 1: end group.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Seems like he loves them. He wants all of them apparently.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Yeah, he wants all the tight ends. I think he
- 2:35Speaker 5: said he'd take nine if he could out of eleven picks.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So go do a mock.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Draft now of just tight ends through all eleven picks
- 2:43Speaker 5: that they have in the draft, and you might get
- 2:44Speaker 5: it at get it right. I Yeah, Look, it's a
- 2:47Speaker 5: great group. You know, we all know Kenyon Sadik is
- 2:49Speaker 5: the number one guy there at the top, and then
- 2:51Speaker 5: there's a cluster of players on day two, and then
- 2:55Speaker 5: there's another mini cluster in early day three. And I
- 2:59Speaker 5: think that's going to be the toughest part is you know,
- 3:02Speaker 5: it's like going to the ice cream shop and picking
- 3:04Speaker 5: your favorite flavor of tight end here, but not all
- 3:07Speaker 5: of them are going to be good, so you got
- 3:08Speaker 5: to get it right, you know, you got to pick
- 3:10Speaker 5: the right one. So that's going to be the toughest
- 3:11Speaker 5: part of the thing for them, And that's what ray
- 3:13Speaker 5: Will mentioned. You know, there's some guys you know, I'll
- 3:16Speaker 5: just put names to it. Eli Stower is more of
- 3:18Speaker 5: like a receiving tight end. You know. Sam Roush has
- 3:21Speaker 5: the size and the blocking ability, and like which one
- 3:24Speaker 5: do you gravitate towards? Is gonna ultimately decide which one
- 3:27Speaker 5: they take. So very good to sit here and say, oh,
- 3:31Speaker 5: well take the one that's good at everything. Well that's
- 3:33Speaker 5: Tyler Warren and he goes in the top ten, right
- 3:35Speaker 5: or I think it was fringe top ten. So like
- 3:38Speaker 5: those guys go high. You know, Kenyan Sadik is going
- 3:40Speaker 5: to go high because he does a little bit of everything. Well,
- 3:43Speaker 5: the guys that are going to be lower and the
- 3:44Speaker 5: draft are going to have specialties, and it's just a
- 3:46Speaker 5: matter of which specialty you want to take.
- 3:48Speaker 1: All right, Well, we're gonna have a full show about
- 3:50Speaker 1: the tight ends in a couple of weeks, Paul, we'll
- 3:51Speaker 1: get all into that, but first here in this episode,
- 3:53Speaker 1: jam packed all the front seven. First up, though, Chris
- 3:57Speaker 1: Matiz breaking down the mock drafts.
- 4:00Speaker 6: Chris, you know he's always were going over mock drafts,
- 4:02Speaker 6: so we did. We should a three yround mock. But
- 4:04Speaker 6: before we get to ours, we gotta go to the
- 4:06Speaker 6: most important Evan and du the mock draft track. Yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 6: so let me let me go through deuces real quick,
- 4:12Speaker 6: and then we'll react and go through Evans because they're
- 4:14Speaker 6: both they're both different for different different reasons. So Mike
- 4:18Speaker 6: d so ready with the thirty first pick, he took
- 4:21Speaker 6: Zion Yudd, young edge rusher. He also took Chris Bell
- 4:25Speaker 6: from Louisville wide receiver. And then an interesting part of
- 4:28Speaker 6: his is he took two tight ends. Took Sam Rouge
- 4:30Speaker 6: from Stanford and uh Tanner Cozy All from Houston. So
- 4:35Speaker 6: you got the tight end, you got the edge rusher.
- 4:37Speaker 6: And you got the receiver. Remember Chris Bell is off
- 4:39Speaker 6: the a c L injury, right.
- 4:40Speaker 7: I think I like the idea of the two tight end.
- 4:43Speaker 7: You know, the thought is there. You know Hunter Hendre's getting.
- 4:46Speaker 3: A little bit older.
- 4:46Speaker 7: Yep, you know, Hooper's gone. Hooper's gone. You need to
- 4:49Speaker 7: fill void there. I think one of those guys could
- 4:52Speaker 7: fill a hole one way. But I like his idea.
- 4:58Speaker 7: I like what he's going for. Someone's got to stuff
- 5:00Speaker 7: up there. And again, it doesn't hurt to have too
- 5:03Speaker 7: many tight ends. Yeah, I think it's a good thing.
- 5:05Speaker 7: I think it's it's important to your team, to your offense.
- 5:08Speaker 7: But I personally don't think I would go to in
- 5:11Speaker 7: the draft. But all right, but you're okay with that, yes,
- 5:14Speaker 7: But to talk about his first overall or sorry, first
- 5:17Speaker 7: round pick, Zion Young, Yeah, I mean Rightan's on the wall.
- 5:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm I'm a fan, I know you are.
- 5:25Speaker 4: We'll get to that in a second. But he's he's just
- 5:27Speaker 4: a tank. Everything that he's said, he's a beast.
- 5:29Speaker 6: All right. So we're going to Evan, who took a
- 5:31Speaker 6: different philosophy to this draft, which we have mixed reviews
- 5:34Speaker 6: on too. With thirty first pick. He took Blake Miller,
- 5:38Speaker 6: offensive tackle from Clemson.
- 5:40Speaker 3: UH.
- 5:40Speaker 6: He also took Derek Moore, who's an edge rusher from
- 5:43Speaker 6: UH Michigan, as well as Oscar Delp. And then we're
- 5:45Speaker 6: also gonna mention Bud Clark because that might tie into
- 5:47Speaker 6: something later. He's a safety. But Oscar Delp the tight
- 5:50Speaker 6: end from Georgia. So when you take Blake Miller, that's
- 5:54Speaker 6: your your first round pick, and he's probably not going
- 5:56Speaker 6: to touch the field, you would hope. So he's gonna
- 5:58Speaker 6: learn behind Morgan Moses. So an investment pick.
- 6:00Speaker 7: You're setting him up for success in the future. That's
- 6:03Speaker 7: your that's your vision with Blake Miller. But then you
- 6:06Speaker 7: look at the second round. I mean, you know, Patriots,
- 6:10Speaker 7: they need an edge rusher. Derek Moore, He's one of
- 6:12Speaker 7: those guys a lot like I kind of put him
- 6:14Speaker 7: in the same category as Malki Lawrence got good speed
- 6:18Speaker 7: coming off the edge.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Really, you know, Derek Moore.
- 6:21Speaker 7: Doesn't have a full set package of finesse moves and stuff.
- 6:25Speaker 7: He's more bull rush. I'm gonna use my speed against you.
- 6:28Speaker 7: That's just what I'm gonna do. But I really like
- 6:31Speaker 7: Derek Moore in that second round spot if you're gonna
- 6:33Speaker 7: go there for that that type of area for edge rushers.
- 6:36Speaker 7: But you know, he's a really good selection. And we
- 6:40Speaker 7: mentioned Delp just a receiving tight end. He's got great speed,
- 6:44Speaker 7: great hands, doesn't drop the ball very much, I mean receiver,
- 6:48Speaker 7: more of a receiver. But you know, right, so I
- 6:52Speaker 7: think it's important. Again we talked about already about Duce's
- 6:54Speaker 7: draft need a tight end this draft.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I don't think you need to, yeah, but I my
- 7:00Speaker 4: personal favorite is Delp. And we'll get more into it as.
- 7:03Speaker 6: We all got it, all right, So guys, both these
- 7:04Speaker 6: mock drafts are available on the Patriots dot Com mock
- 7:07Speaker 6: draft tracker. But we're here for the real reason. Chris,
- 7:09Speaker 6: you and I we did a three round mock. So
- 7:11Speaker 6: do you want me to go first and then you go?
- 7:13Speaker 4: All right?
- 7:14Speaker 6: So listen, I mean I've told you I'm not the
- 7:16Speaker 6: biggest fan of this drafts. It's not the sexiest draft
- 7:20Speaker 6: in the world. This is more for the football nerds.
- 7:22Speaker 6: But I took Zion Young to ede rusher at thirty one.
- 7:24Speaker 6: I thought about doing the trade up. We use the
- 7:27Speaker 6: mock draft database. I thought about doing the trade up
- 7:29Speaker 6: for Sadik the tight end, but I said, I don't
- 7:31Speaker 6: think that's gonna happen. I took Zion Young. That's the
- 7:34Speaker 6: safe pick, all right. With the second round, I took
- 7:37Speaker 6: aj Halsey, the safety from LSU. Duce mentioned him. I
- 7:41Speaker 6: mentioned him in our safety's defensive back segment. That was
- 7:45Speaker 6: kind of the best player on the board. Yes, so
- 7:46Speaker 6: you got Kevin Byrd. He's up there in age. So
- 7:50Speaker 6: once again, this is an investment pick. But he's a baller.
- 7:53Speaker 6: He's a ballhawk. And then with my third round pick,
- 7:56Speaker 6: I took Kyle Lewis, linebacker from pitt A bit of
- 7:58Speaker 6: a hybrid safety line back. He could He's a bit undersize,
- 8:01Speaker 6: but he can move. He can move and he can
- 8:03Speaker 6: make an impact. He could go over the field.
- 8:04Speaker 7: I like those three rounds. I really like your Halsey pick.
- 8:07Speaker 7: I mean, like you said, you're the best guy on
- 8:09Speaker 7: the board when you're doing a mock draft.
- 8:11Speaker 3: But it's tough.
- 8:12Speaker 4: You want to see him in that spot.
- 8:14Speaker 7: And I do think the Patriots benefit from taking a
- 8:16Speaker 7: guy like him, uh, you know, just a stud. Like
- 8:19Speaker 7: you said, he's your prototypical safety and you stick him
- 8:24Speaker 7: behind to Kevin Bayerd yeah, let him grow for a year.
- 8:26Speaker 7: I mean, that's realistically what's gonna end up happening with
- 8:29Speaker 7: a lot of these guys that they're gonna draft.
- 8:30Speaker 6: So the thing is, too, he had twelve pass breakups
- 8:32Speaker 6: eight receptions in the past two years. That's what I
- 8:34Speaker 6: want my safety. Yeah, no fly zone, so he could
- 8:37Speaker 6: become that.
- 8:38Speaker 7: The upside with it with being in defensive back is
- 8:41Speaker 7: you can put him in different packages and I still
- 8:43Speaker 7: use him on the field, Whereas like there's other positions,
- 8:45Speaker 7: Like we talked about the tackle position. You know, that's
- 8:48Speaker 7: a harder one to sort of, you know, immediately start playing,
- 8:52Speaker 7: especially if you're draft first round, like first round, your
- 8:54Speaker 7: first round talent. Sure you could probably start, but you know,
- 8:57Speaker 7: Will has a left side and you know Morgan has
- 8:59Speaker 7: the right side.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Just develop as you as.
- 9:01Speaker 6: You go exactly. And the Kyle Lewis pick from Pitt,
- 9:05Speaker 6: I'm not I'm not fully sold in it, but linebacker
- 9:07Speaker 6: is a position to need, and it is again one
- 9:09Speaker 6: of the better players on the board. I'd rather just
- 9:11Speaker 6: get a guy than start getting all these trades and stuff.
- 9:14Speaker 7: So you know, I really like Kyle Lewis. I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 7: I think this linebacker class is very deep. Yeah, with
- 9:20Speaker 7: Fisher and Lewis.
- 9:21Speaker 4: And all these guys.
- 9:22Speaker 7: You know, I think there's a lot of leverage there
- 9:25Speaker 7: and you can wait and hold out a little bit
- 9:27Speaker 7: and still get a good linebacker in this draft.
- 9:30Speaker 4: But I love Kyle Lewis for you.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Let's get into Chris. Sorry, I'm excited.
- 9:36Speaker 7: So round one we got T J. Parker Clemson. All right,
- 9:39Speaker 7: the edge rusher.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Round two a little bit of a reach for me,
- 9:42Speaker 4: but I personally.
- 9:43Speaker 7: Think this is a need for the Patriots and there's
- 9:46Speaker 7: a lot of great t tackles out there. I'm trying
- 9:47Speaker 7: to jump into it. Dominique Gornge, big citrus. You know,
- 9:51Speaker 7: he's just an animal. I love him. Talk about him
- 9:53Speaker 7: in a second. Yeah, third round, Oscar Delp as well.
- 9:56Speaker 7: I I really think the Pats indeed to hit on
- 9:59Speaker 7: a tight end in the first three rounds. Uh, that's
- 10:03Speaker 7: why the trade up for I don't disagree with that.
- 10:06Speaker 7: I don't disagree with it, but be realistic, and you know,
- 10:11Speaker 7: some solid tight ends in this draft there are. So
- 10:14Speaker 7: my first favorite is Delp. As you mentioned, Evan has
- 10:16Speaker 7: Delp going as well in the third round. So you know,
- 10:19Speaker 7: like I said, we talked about t J. Parker for
- 10:22Speaker 7: a minute. Round one, you know, sort of that border
- 10:26Speaker 7: guy for the edge rusher position round one, early round two.
- 10:30Speaker 7: He has a lot of potential, does a great job
- 10:32Speaker 7: with his hands against tackles, can use his length and
- 10:37Speaker 7: bul rush to his ability. Doesn't have all the finesse
- 10:41Speaker 7: moves in his caliber, but you know he can use
- 10:44Speaker 7: his size to help.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Help him there. And again just get into the quarterback.
- 10:48Speaker 4: I think that the Patriots needed.
- 10:49Speaker 6: Are you taking him because Zion Young's got off the board?
- 10:52Speaker 4: Yes, Young off the board.
- 10:53Speaker 6: But if Zion Young's there, Yes, okay, all.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Right, I would say you take Zion Young.
- 10:58Speaker 6: That's the way the board played out.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Yes, the way board played out.
- 11:00Speaker 7: T J.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Parker was there for me. I like him. I think
- 11:03Speaker 4: also there're two different play styles.
- 11:05Speaker 7: Zion Young is more of the brute rugged three downs,
- 11:09Speaker 7: three dous.
- 11:10Speaker 4: You can put him inside, put him outside, you know.
- 11:12Speaker 3: T J.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Parker is more of your outside guy.
- 11:14Speaker 7: He can also extend himself and helping pass coverage on
- 11:17Speaker 7: the flat a little bit, you know, which is beneficial,
- 11:20Speaker 7: especially with how offensives work nowadays. Uh, that's that's kind
- 11:23Speaker 7: of I've been on t J. Parker now Dominique Orange,
- 11:26Speaker 7: bake Citrus. He is just as interesting Williams, I know,
- 11:31Speaker 7: but but he he is.
- 11:33Speaker 4: As specific as it gets to a noseguard.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Got it?
- 11:36Speaker 7: And you need somebody who you can line up Tonga
- 11:39Speaker 7: esque and just stuff ale.
- 11:42Speaker 6: And you're taking that in the second round.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Why not?
- 11:44Speaker 3: Why not?
- 11:45Speaker 4: If you love it? And again I'm reaching here a
- 11:47Speaker 4: little bit.
- 11:47Speaker 7: Dominice Orange could be in the third round in my opinion,
- 11:50Speaker 7: maybe fourth, But I do like him. If you love him,
- 11:54Speaker 7: I love him. I'm taking Dominice Go Orange in the
- 11:56Speaker 7: second round. Just his ability to move blockers. And he's
- 12:01Speaker 7: six or four, three hundred and thirty pounds.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Like boy, that's a big fellow in the middle. Got it,
- 12:06Speaker 6: got it?
- 12:06Speaker 7: I mean I like a big guy when it comes
- 12:09Speaker 7: to kind of holding holding, holding their own in the
- 12:11Speaker 7: front line.
- 12:12Speaker 6: All right.
- 12:12Speaker 7: So that's my take on Dominice Orange. I think he's
- 12:15Speaker 7: gonna be available to second round. I don't know, we'll
- 12:18Speaker 7: see if the pass go that way, but that's my preference.
- 12:21Speaker 7: And then round three, doubt we already talked about about speed.
- 12:24Speaker 7: Great hands, doesn't drop the ball very often, could create
- 12:27Speaker 7: a little bit more separation against UH defensive backs. Downfield,
- 12:31Speaker 7: but converts a lot of twelve plus yard plays in college,
- 12:35Speaker 7: and he could take in turn over into the NFL.
- 12:38Speaker 6: So perfect, Chris, I like it. I like it. Well, guys,
- 12:40Speaker 6: you'll hear more about the front seven as we go
- 12:42Speaker 6: on to the next section.
- 12:46Speaker 1: All right, it's a big day here for me because
- 12:48Speaker 1: it's the front seven preview.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Guys, y'all know me. I love me some defense, Mike.
- 12:52Speaker 3: I know if you ever heard of Mike's defense, I
- 12:54Speaker 3: do you.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Indeed, especially this edge class, Am I wrong? This is
- 12:58Speaker 1: a really strong edge class. It's a big position and
- 13:00Speaker 1: a need for the Patriots. So this should be a
- 13:02Speaker 1: fun one because I think really all through these positions,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think you could see them potentially take him. We're
- 13:07Speaker 1: talking of course, defensive tackle, defensive end, edge, whatever you
- 13:10Speaker 1: want to call it, ev and of course off the
- 13:11Speaker 1: ball linebacker, and I think the best place to start
- 13:14Speaker 1: is with this stacked edge class. Patriot's probably not going
- 13:17Speaker 1: to have a shot at some of these top guys.
- 13:19Speaker 1: But let's first talk about David Baileyan and Ruben Bain, who,
- 13:22Speaker 1: of course, do you watch the National Championship.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Ruben Bain is a nightmare.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Talk some short arms, but at the same time, those
- 13:28Speaker 1: guys gonna.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Make a big impact, I think right away.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Ruby Bain is probably the most powerful
- 13:34Speaker 5: player in this entire draft, just for cinder blockhands. Obviously,
- 13:38Speaker 5: the bend is something that goes around social media. Look
- 13:41Speaker 5: at the shin angles, look at the bend, you know,
- 13:44Speaker 5: all that kind of stuff is great. But just watching
- 13:46Speaker 5: him a little bit, you know, checking out Ramelo Height,
- 13:50Speaker 5: his running made, his wing made there on the other
- 13:52Speaker 5: side of Texas Tech. Both those guys, you know, with
- 13:55Speaker 5: David Bailey and Ramelo Height, could really get after the
- 13:57Speaker 5: quarterback too. So I both the schools have bookends, right,
- 14:01Speaker 5: I mean, we're going to talk about a Keem mesidor here.
- 14:03Speaker 5: I'm sure in a second more in the Patriots range.
- 14:06Speaker 5: And he worked, you know, in tandem with Rubin Bain,
- 14:09Speaker 5: and then David Bailey has Hermelo Heights. So some guys
- 14:12Speaker 5: that interest the Patriots. But I think with those two,
- 14:16Speaker 5: you just see both of those guys have extremely good
- 14:20Speaker 5: explosiveness off the football, power in Bain's case, more athleticism,
- 14:26Speaker 5: I would say, in Bailey's case. So it's a good class.
- 14:29Speaker 5: It's a good class.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I think the bigger question, Paul, what are we looking
- 14:32Speaker 2: for in this group?
- 14:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of different options, and we talk edge, defensive,
- 14:36Speaker 1: end guys that can stand out, guys that are hand down.
- 14:38Speaker 2: There's a wide range covered in this position group.
- 14:41Speaker 3: And I'm having a little bit more of a hard
- 14:43Speaker 3: time because of you know, sort of been in that
- 14:46Speaker 3: Belichick frame of mind for so long. It's hard because
- 14:50Speaker 3: I do think Rabel and Zach Korr played the front
- 14:53Speaker 3: seven a little bit differently than what I have been
- 14:55Speaker 3: accustomed to me too over the years. So I'm having
- 14:58Speaker 3: a hard time sort of identifying. It used to be like,
- 15:01Speaker 3: you know, six or four guys that could run you know,
- 15:03Speaker 3: a four to six, you know, and they can be
- 15:05Speaker 3: William McGinnis types on the edge well, you know, as
- 15:08Speaker 3: that likes to say, those are kind of planet players.
- 15:10Speaker 3: There's not that many of them, So I think you
- 15:12Speaker 3: can open up the lens a little bit more because
- 15:14Speaker 3: I think the way that they played last year is
- 15:17Speaker 3: a little bit more conducive to different body styles. You know,
- 15:20Speaker 3: when you look and you're looking at some of these
- 15:22Speaker 3: guys and you know, I think baying in measudor you know,
- 15:25Speaker 3: even though they're they're teammates. They're really different and they
- 15:28Speaker 3: do a different way. Obviously, Mezidor is a little bit
- 15:31Speaker 3: older too, so I think that's going to be the
- 15:33Speaker 3: key for me, is trying to find do they want
- 15:36Speaker 3: a guy in the first round, and then you sort
- 15:38Speaker 3: of identify the guys that are in that area, Chris
- 15:40Speaker 3: and try to figure out which ones might fit best
- 15:42Speaker 3: for the Patriots. Yeah.
- 15:43Speaker 7: I mean we talked about Messidor a little already, but
- 15:45Speaker 7: I think that's my overall favorite of this Yeah, I've
- 15:49Speaker 7: really loved in this player. I think age is a
- 15:52Speaker 7: little bit of a factor for him because obviously you
- 15:54Speaker 7: have your rookie contract going through the first round start
- 15:57Speaker 7: at four years, so you play four years, you're already
- 15:59Speaker 7: twenty years old, and then you're talking extension. Are you
- 16:02Speaker 7: talking trade value or are you talking like something like that.
- 16:05Speaker 7: But I think for overall, balanced edge rushers kind of
- 16:10Speaker 7: what I think the Patriots need the most.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I think he's a really solid, solid piece of that.
- 16:14Speaker 3: But he's got a.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Great movement to get to the quarterback.
- 16:16Speaker 7: He's he's quick, he's i mean, his finesse ability is there.
- 16:21Speaker 7: You know, he's a really positive edge rusher. Again, I
- 16:26Speaker 7: think experience plays a big factor in that, especially playing
- 16:29Speaker 7: a power five ball, and Miami went deep in the
- 16:31Speaker 7: playoffs here, so I think that was important.
- 16:34Speaker 4: But that's kind of my time.
- 16:36Speaker 3: If I'm just curious with with Mike, and you know,
- 16:38Speaker 3: because Mike is the expert on defense. But I'm for
- 16:42Speaker 3: you just like, do you think that Like I think
- 16:46Speaker 3: in the past Belichick would have maybe sort of eliminated
- 16:50Speaker 3: like a pure pass rusher that just rushes the passer.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Now I don't necessarily take those guys off the board.
- 16:57Speaker 3: What you know, for for for Rabel, is he looking
- 17:01Speaker 3: for just a good player or a guy who does
- 17:04Speaker 3: one thing if he doesn't set the edge as well,
- 17:07Speaker 3: you know, like that would be off the board for Bill.
- 17:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I think this is the hardest part about this
- 17:11Speaker 5: entire draft class at this position is it's pick your
- 17:14Speaker 5: favorite ice cream flavor, right, like the Vanility like chocolate?
- 17:17Speaker 5: Do you like cookies in cream? Do you like coffee?
- 17:19Speaker 5: Do what do you like? Because they have all the
- 17:22Speaker 5: different types in this edgeresher class, he got bigger guys
- 17:24Speaker 5: like Zion Young or Keldric falk or two sixty five plus.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Six six guys, smaller guys.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Like Cassius Howell obviously have great bend and explosiveness and
- 17:33Speaker 5: playmaking ability, but they have shorter arms and are a
- 17:36Speaker 5: little bit undersized for the position. So I tend to
- 17:40Speaker 5: lean with Rabel towards Harold Landry kind of being his prototype, right.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I think that Harold Andry is the type of guy
- 17:48Speaker 5: that he is always you know, obviously has loved, has
- 17:51Speaker 5: kept with him, you know that sort of thing. And
- 17:53Speaker 5: Harold Landry's six two fifty two fifty five, it can
- 17:58Speaker 5: really rush the passer first, explosiveness, bend, fluidity as a
- 18:02Speaker 5: pass rusher, heady against the run, but that's not really
- 18:06Speaker 5: I would say, his calling card. And so I look
- 18:08Speaker 5: at this class in that prism of who are the
- 18:12Speaker 5: best Harold Landries of this class, and there's plenty of them,
- 18:16Speaker 5: but I would just point out, you know, right off
- 18:18Speaker 5: the top, like to me, Casius Howell is a Harold
- 18:21Speaker 5: Landrid clone. I think he rushes the pass or the
- 18:24Speaker 5: exact same way. I think he plays the run and
- 18:27Speaker 5: pass with good instincts and good feel, which allows him
- 18:30Speaker 5: to kind of play the run at a pretty high
- 18:32Speaker 5: level at that size. But most importantly, some of the
- 18:36Speaker 5: best you know explosiveness, bend, fluidity, inside out, ability to
- 18:39Speaker 5: get on the edges of anybody in this class. And
- 18:43Speaker 5: I look at him as a player that because of
- 18:45Speaker 5: the arm length, he might fall to the Patriots at
- 18:48Speaker 5: thirty one, but off the tape, he is a top
- 18:50Speaker 5: twenty player in this class. And when you pick at
- 18:53Speaker 5: the end of the first round, that's kind of what
- 18:55Speaker 5: you're hoping to get. YEP, as a guy that slips
- 18:57Speaker 5: through the clack cracks a little bit, whether it's injury,
- 19:00Speaker 5: whether it's you know, measurables, or whatever the case may be,
- 19:03Speaker 5: and you end up getting a top twenty talent at
- 19:05Speaker 5: thirty one because the guy's arms measured an inch too short.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I cut.
- 19:10Speaker 4: So I agree with cash toal, I really like him.
- 19:12Speaker 7: I'm gonna kind of go a different angle with excuse me, Kendrick.
- 19:18Speaker 4: I don't know why.
- 19:18Speaker 7: I just bla liked that had in my head literally
- 19:20Speaker 7: a second ago. Kendrick Falk run defender. He's a beast
- 19:24Speaker 7: against the run. I think the Patriots lacked that a
- 19:26Speaker 7: little bit, especially down the stretch. You saw that, especially
- 19:29Speaker 7: in the Super Bowl. You saw it, and I think
- 19:31Speaker 7: for the Patriots it's important for them to again, like
- 19:35Speaker 7: I said, I think it's a balanced guy. I think
- 19:37Speaker 7: you need a guy that can do both. And you
- 19:40Speaker 7: mentioned the Harold Landry komp with cash towel, and I
- 19:42Speaker 7: agree with that one. But you have the ability to
- 19:46Speaker 7: sort of grow Falk as a pass rusher as well
- 19:50Speaker 7: as he is a run run defender.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, young guy, Yeah, yeah, twenty one.
- 19:57Speaker 3: You know he'll play at twenty one. I act he
- 20:00Speaker 3: looked at him as a guy who might get kicked inside.
- 20:02Speaker 3: As a pass rusher, he's got. I think Chris is
- 20:05Speaker 3: right about his run stopping ability, but that's I think
- 20:07Speaker 3: him is more of maybe a sub rusher inside.
- 20:10Speaker 5: I think the issue with both him and Zion Young
- 20:12Speaker 5: that I have is that their full time role is
- 20:15Speaker 5: probably going to be playing straight up over the tackle
- 20:18Speaker 5: and a five technique with their hand in the you know,
- 20:20Speaker 5: hand in the dirt. The Patriots did not really rush
- 20:23Speaker 5: their rushers from the five technique a whole lot last year.
- 20:26Speaker 5: They had inside guys like Barmore and Millon Williams, and
- 20:29Speaker 5: then they had true outside guys like Kaylo and Chase
- 20:31Speaker 5: On and Landry and Ponder and Jennings. So those guys,
- 20:35Speaker 5: you know, just looking at the next gen of it
- 20:36Speaker 5: all are logging snaps at seven and nine technique, which
- 20:39Speaker 5: are all the way outside the tackle. So big guys
- 20:42Speaker 5: like folk like young, really talented players and like fun
- 20:46Speaker 5: players to watch, have those long levers and they know
- 20:49Speaker 5: how to use them. But at the same time, you know,
- 20:51Speaker 5: where do they play in a four man front? For
- 20:54Speaker 5: Mike Rabol, Are they interior guys? Are they outside guys?
- 20:57Speaker 5: They're kind of in the middle. It's not exactly the same,
- 21:00Speaker 5: but I just to use a more tangible comparison, Like
- 21:04Speaker 5: it's kind of like how they struggled with Keon White
- 21:06Speaker 5: last year. Like they know that this is a talented player,
- 21:08Speaker 5: they know they he has something to offer, but we
- 21:11Speaker 5: just don't really have a great role for him within
- 21:15Speaker 5: the framework of this defense.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about some of the guys though, that
- 21:18Speaker 1: maybe you know, could bring that on the outside.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I just I mean, you mentioned Zion Young.
- 21:22Speaker 1: He's a he's a popular mock draft pick, but moving
- 21:25Speaker 1: you know past him, our Mason Thomas and.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Gabe Achis are two guys that to me play like
- 21:30Speaker 2: Mike rabel w.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I like both of those guys really air on fire,
- 21:33Speaker 1: aggressive kind of guys.
- 21:35Speaker 3: You know.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I mean Achus is six four to two sixty, so
- 21:38Speaker 1: I mean he's still in that range. Maybe not quite
- 21:39Speaker 1: the length of the other guys, but you know, ar
- 21:41Speaker 1: Mason Thomas is two forty, so he's going to have that.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And Chris, going back to what you said, you have
- 21:46Speaker 2: to kind of pick what you want.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I found myself gravitating towards these kind of guys, guys
- 21:50Speaker 1: that I know has some juice. We'll find someone to
- 21:53Speaker 1: stop the run. And I think this is Paul rubbing
- 21:54Speaker 1: off on me, maybe, but I really like watching those No.
- 21:56Speaker 3: But but that's why I brought up the whole kind
- 21:59Speaker 3: undrum at the getting, because if you're looking for more
- 22:02Speaker 3: well rounded guys, do you think that's what Rabel wants
- 22:04Speaker 3: or West starting to get away with that if you
- 22:06Speaker 3: have a you know, an elite skill like I mean,
- 22:08Speaker 3: I think most people would say Chase On last year
- 22:11Speaker 3: was kind of yeah, just you know, an edge rusher,
- 22:14Speaker 3: you know, and he made plays, you know, against the
- 22:16Speaker 3: run too. But I think that you're looking more like
- 22:19Speaker 3: an r. Mason Thomas is just a guy who is
- 22:20Speaker 3: probably going to be a speed guy off the edge.
- 22:22Speaker 3: That's what he That's what he does and he does
- 22:24Speaker 3: it pretty well. Do you want that or do you
- 22:26Speaker 3: want you know, someone who's a little.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Bit more versatile and maybe like a guy like Josh
- 22:30Speaker 1: Ucha is a little bit of an example of the
- 22:31Speaker 1: guy that.
- 22:32Speaker 2: It doesn't always work out.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I mean I remember talking to Don Brown when he
- 22:35Speaker 1: came out, and Don Brown saying he can rush the arc.
- 22:37Speaker 1: He's got that bend, he's you know, he never really
- 22:39Speaker 1: translated here at least. But you know, I have two
- 22:41Speaker 1: guys that that I'd love to hear you comment, And
- 22:43Speaker 1: I don't know why I kind of have these these
- 22:45Speaker 1: two kind of side by side.
- 22:46Speaker 3: It's t J.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Parker and Derek Moore. I feel like they're well rounded guys,
- 22:50Speaker 1: tough guys. Maybe not the electric pass rush juice, certainly,
- 22:54Speaker 1: you know the bull rush there from from Derek Moore's
- 22:57Speaker 1: pretty impressive.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I mean he's a powerful dude. How do you see
- 23:00Speaker 2: those guys line enough?
- 23:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:01Speaker 5: So t J. Parker is an interesting one because he
- 23:05Speaker 5: was a Shorefire first round pick junior coming out of
- 23:08Speaker 5: the twenty twenty fourth season. Like even maybe in the
- 23:11Speaker 5: conversation with Ruben Baind and David Bailey at that point
- 23:14Speaker 5: of this cycle, he had a little bit of a
- 23:16Speaker 5: down year last year. It comes int twenty five and
- 23:18Speaker 5: now he's kind of slid into the back end of
- 23:20Speaker 5: the first round as a result. But he is, you know,
- 23:23Speaker 5: I wrote down in mind, he's a power oriented player.
- 23:26Speaker 5: You know, that's a guy that's trying to go through
- 23:27Speaker 5: blocks instead of around them more times than not. But
- 23:31Speaker 5: what I do like about him is that he can
- 23:33Speaker 5: get to the high side edge and get on the
- 23:35Speaker 5: outside and then just kind of go through people's punches
- 23:38Speaker 5: on the outside. So it's not all just going through
- 23:41Speaker 5: right through a chess right, And I think that's what
- 23:43Speaker 5: I get worried about when you start talking about translating
- 23:46Speaker 5: from college to the pros. It's a lot easier to
- 23:49Speaker 5: go through a chest of a college tackle than it
- 23:51Speaker 5: is to go through the chest of a pro tackle.
- 23:53Speaker 5: You know, the guys up here play a little bit different.
- 23:55Speaker 5: You know, they got a little bit stronger, basses, stronger,
- 23:58Speaker 5: you know, core strand and all that good stuff. They're
- 24:01Speaker 5: grown men, so it's a little harder to do that.
- 24:04Speaker 5: I really like Derek Moore. I think that at sixty three,
- 24:08Speaker 5: he's right in the wheelhouse there for the Patriots. At
- 24:10Speaker 5: that pick, i'd put you know, kind of a toss
- 24:13Speaker 5: up between him and Gave Akis from Illinois. I really
- 24:16Speaker 5: like as well wrestling background, a grappler, you know, guy
- 24:19Speaker 5: that really knows how to control his body and can
- 24:21Speaker 5: toward his body into gaps and move blockers out of
- 24:24Speaker 5: the way. And both those guys play with a lot
- 24:28Speaker 5: of power, a lot of fire, a lot of effort
- 24:30Speaker 5: and finish. As Mike Rabel likes to say, So if
- 24:33Speaker 5: you want to look for maybe in the body type
- 24:37Speaker 5: of the guy that I'm bringing up with Harold Landry,
- 24:40Speaker 5: but plays with a little bit more power to him.
- 24:43Speaker 5: I think Akis and Derek Moore on day two fit
- 24:46Speaker 5: that mold, and then we can kind of get into
- 24:48Speaker 5: the screamers you know on day two as well. But
- 24:51Speaker 5: those two guys, I would say, are probably in a
- 24:53Speaker 5: little bit of a lower tier than TJ. Parker. I
- 24:55Speaker 5: think t J. Parker is still a first round pick.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I really like TJ.
- 24:58Speaker 5: Parker.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Another NAM gonna throw too is Malki Lawrence.
- 25:01Speaker 7: Obviously, just at Combine, has a lot of speed, a
- 25:05Speaker 7: little little top heavy with how he plays a little
- 25:08Speaker 7: nimble down low. I feel like he can improve as
- 25:10Speaker 7: a run defender, but he has unbelievable speed. He can
- 25:14Speaker 7: get off the edge that you guys are looking for
- 25:16Speaker 7: somebody that is speaking to get to the quarterback.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I mean, he has a lot of speed, So yeah, Lawrence.
- 25:22Speaker 5: What I was most impressed with with Malki Lawrence was
- 25:25Speaker 5: how well schooled he is with his hands in his
- 25:28Speaker 5: pass rush moves. Usually, when you get guys like that
- 25:31Speaker 5: from a school, you know, smaller schools like UCF that
- 25:33Speaker 5: have great combines, they're just these raw athletes that you
- 25:37Speaker 5: know are just winning on pure athleticism at that level.
- 25:40Speaker 5: But when I watched the film, I thought that he
- 25:43Speaker 5: had a lot more tricks in tools in his bag
- 25:46Speaker 5: than I was expecting. You know, he has a very
- 25:48Speaker 5: deep pass rush toolbox, as we like to say, with
- 25:51Speaker 5: different moves and hand counters and ability to maybe rush
- 25:55Speaker 5: a little bit on the inside. But I thought he
- 25:57Speaker 5: struggled at times doing that. But I think that what
- 26:00Speaker 5: you see with him is some monof versatility. He can
- 26:03Speaker 5: play a little bit off the ball if you want
- 26:04Speaker 5: him to play there. But most importantly is not just
- 26:08Speaker 5: the athleticism, but also the ability to win different ways
- 26:11Speaker 5: in the pass rush. And that's really what you're looking
- 26:13Speaker 5: for out of all of these guys, is you know,
- 26:16Speaker 5: it's great to have one trick that's really really good,
- 26:19Speaker 5: but you need to have multiple, at least two or
- 26:21Speaker 5: three change ups that you can throw at NFL tackles,
- 26:24Speaker 5: and I think he's got that. So mal Chy Lawrence
- 26:27Speaker 5: to me is a sneaky first round possibility, Like I
- 26:30Speaker 5: wouldn't be shocked if he slides into the back end
- 26:33Speaker 5: of the first round. I think he's a top fifty
- 26:34Speaker 5: player all day.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Yea, No, you look like you're about say something. Don't
- 26:39Speaker 2: want to get two in the weeds.
- 26:40Speaker 1: With this because we do have two other position groups
- 26:42Speaker 1: to go, but it is a stat class, so maybe
- 26:44Speaker 1: there's an opportunity for a double dip here.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I mean, it's in need. Love to see that.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I just you know, one guy I'm just going to
- 26:50Speaker 1: throw out there is Wesley Williams from Duke, who you
- 26:52Speaker 1: know is still developmental guy but just plays that same thing.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It stands out to me the way he plays with
- 26:56Speaker 1: a great motor, just all over the place, overwhelmed, but
- 27:01Speaker 1: a developmental kind of a guy.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Love to see them. Maybe add one of those kind
- 27:05Speaker 2: of guys.
- 27:05Speaker 1: But who else you guys got As we wrap up
- 27:07Speaker 1: the edges here of a notable maybe later day, Day two,
- 27:11Speaker 1: day three kind of prospects, maybe they they could grab.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Now, Walliams was the guy that you sort of put
- 27:15Speaker 3: me on earlier in the week, and I watched him
- 27:18Speaker 3: a little bit yesterday and I see, you know, you
- 27:20Speaker 3: know what you were talking about. So it doesn't do
- 27:22Speaker 3: anything that really jumps off the page at you, but
- 27:25Speaker 3: does kind of everything, okay, yea, And I think this
- 27:27Speaker 3: is probably worth worth tapping into trait. To me, this
- 27:32Speaker 3: is about the top because I think this is a
- 27:35Speaker 3: huge need. I think most people would argue it's the
- 27:37Speaker 3: biggest need that exists on the rosters. So I think
- 27:40Speaker 3: it's going to be really interesting to see how these
- 27:42Speaker 3: guys come off the board ahead of them at thirty one,
- 27:45Speaker 3: Do five six guys go and then you say, I
- 27:48Speaker 3: don't really want to have the seventh or eighth edge rusher,
- 27:52Speaker 3: you know, in the first round. I'll wait till the
- 27:54Speaker 3: second or third round, or do some of these guys
- 27:57Speaker 3: start to slip and then maybe you get a guy,
- 27:59Speaker 3: you know, like TJ. Park or something something like that
- 28:02Speaker 3: maybe you don't really expect to be available, who becomes
- 28:04Speaker 3: available and is too good to pass up. That to
- 28:06Speaker 3: me is the intrigue of this first round for the Patriot.
- 28:10Speaker 2: We've got to get off your chest at before we
- 28:11Speaker 2: move on, I'll.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Do some rapid fire. So key On Crawford from Auburn
- 28:15Speaker 5: is one of my favorite, like mid round, third or
- 28:17Speaker 5: fourth round prospects in this draft. He played the buck
- 28:21Speaker 5: position for Auburn, which is like kind of a versatile
- 28:24Speaker 5: rush off the passer, dropping to coverage off the line
- 28:28Speaker 5: of scrimmage, play the overhang, so he's kind of like
- 28:31Speaker 5: all the way out almost over the slot at times.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Really athletic player, but his bend is twitch, is the
- 28:37Speaker 5: first step, explosiveness, all elite. One of the guys that's
- 28:40Speaker 5: sort of a late riser at least in the media
- 28:43Speaker 5: is JSHN Barham from Michigan who played a little bit
- 28:46Speaker 5: off the ball, a little bit on the ball at Michigan,
- 28:48Speaker 5: but I think he's he's a pure you know, outside
- 28:51Speaker 5: linebacker in the NFL on the ball and really really
- 28:55Speaker 5: explosive player, can get underneath pads. But really what you
- 28:59Speaker 5: see with him is just a guy that really can
- 29:02Speaker 5: get off the football. If we're getting into Day three,
- 29:05Speaker 5: you know, especially there with those two fourth round picks.
- 29:08Speaker 5: I think there is a little bit of a drop
- 29:10Speaker 5: off once you get through the Crawfords, the Barms, the
- 29:13Speaker 5: Joshua Joseph's from Tennessee. I'm interested to see where Romelo
- 29:16Speaker 5: height goes. You know, you only measured in at like
- 29:18Speaker 5: two hundred and forty pounds. He's pretty light. But a
- 29:21Speaker 5: couple of guys there on D three. Max Lewellyn from Iowa,
- 29:26Speaker 5: I think he, you know, is a skilled rusher. Paul
- 29:28Speaker 5: is kind of talking about maybe gravitating more towards the
- 29:31Speaker 5: guys that just kind of purely rushed the passer at
- 29:34Speaker 5: a high level. I think he's one of those guys
- 29:36Speaker 5: that could come in and rush the passer on third
- 29:38Speaker 5: down pretty much instantly. Maybe not the run defender or
- 29:42Speaker 5: the guy with the play strength, but a really deep
- 29:45Speaker 5: pass rush Arsenal. Last one McHale Kamara from Indiana. Chris
- 29:50Speaker 5: wanted run defense. This guy can bring the run defense
- 29:54Speaker 5: if that's what you want. If they want a sturdier
- 29:56Speaker 5: edgesetter that can come in and hold up blocks and
- 30:00Speaker 5: host up on the edge and make plays on the
- 30:02Speaker 5: other side of the line of scrimmage in the run game.
- 30:04Speaker 5: You know, I would say, gravitate towards him. Okay, I'll
- 30:08Speaker 5: throw one more out there and then I'm done. Cad
- 30:11Speaker 5: and Curry from Ohio State. I think we just got
- 30:13Speaker 5: to mention all the buck guys at all times. So
- 30:17Speaker 5: I'll mention him and Contagious Hutchins from Boston College just
- 30:19Speaker 5: because it's right down the street and the pipeline exists,
- 30:22Speaker 5: and I'm just gonna throw that out there as well.
- 30:24Speaker 5: But I think all those guys that I just mentioned,
- 30:27Speaker 5: you know, Llewellyn, Kamara, Curry, Hutchins, those are Day three
- 30:32Speaker 5: players that maybe if they want to double dip, or
- 30:35Speaker 5: guys they could come back to and on Day three.
- 30:37Speaker 2: All right, let's let's move on to the defensive line.
- 30:40Speaker 1: We saw they lost Kyris Tonga and free agency, so
- 30:42Speaker 1: maybe a little bit of a need there. I've been
- 30:45Speaker 1: saying all year, kind of looking for a bigger type guy.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Keep it keep it going with OSU, with Kate McDonald,
- 30:51Speaker 1: you know, right at the top, probably the best guy
- 30:53Speaker 1: in the class, although it seems like it's you know,
- 30:55Speaker 1: a little jumble together. Caleb Banks, Peter Woods, those guys
- 30:58Speaker 1: kind of in there as well.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Jump in, Chris, what do you got no.
- 31:01Speaker 4: I mean you talked about it.
- 31:02Speaker 7: My personal favorite of that like kind of up at
- 31:05Speaker 7: the top tier is Caleb Banks.
- 31:06Speaker 3: And he's six.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Six and he's just a minute inside.
- 31:09Speaker 7: He's your true notes Like you need a run stopper,
- 31:12Speaker 7: you need a guy who can also get to the quarterback.
- 31:14Speaker 4: I mean you can kind of do it both do
- 31:17Speaker 4: it both ways.
- 31:17Speaker 7: And he's he's my personal favorite of that group for sure.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Yeah, we'll see how his foot checks out.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Is that the foot thing.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Kate McDonald is probably, you know, one of my favorites
- 31:29Speaker 5: out of this entire class, just because he actually makes
- 31:31Speaker 5: plays in the run game. Like this isn't a space eater.
- 31:34Speaker 5: This is a guy that gets off blocks and penetrates
- 31:37Speaker 5: gaps and he can get into the backfield. I want
- 31:40Speaker 5: to say, at thirty seven run stuffs last year for
- 31:42Speaker 5: Ohio State, which is a huge number for an interior player,
- 31:46Speaker 5: you know, similar to him, you know, Banks, Lee Hunter,
- 31:50Speaker 5: you know, all these guys are kind of these run
- 31:52Speaker 5: stuffers and I the nose tackles back baby.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Yeah, you know for the position, those guys are pretty athletic.
- 31:59Speaker 3: I would agree with you. It's a little bit of
- 32:01Speaker 3: a resurgency.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I love it. I love it. I think you know,
- 32:04Speaker 5: as we could probably talk about this for hours. But
- 32:06Speaker 5: as defenses get into more split safety coverages and they
- 32:11Speaker 5: have the two safeties back because of the way the
- 32:13Speaker 5: passing game has evolved in the NFL, you're stopping to
- 32:18Speaker 5: run with a lot of light boxes and you have
- 32:20Speaker 5: less people in the box, and so these three hundred
- 32:23Speaker 5: and thirty pound run stuffers, you know, I'll just call
- 32:25Speaker 5: one out from the Super Bowl like Byron Murphy. These
- 32:28Speaker 5: are extremely valuable players because they can take on multiple
- 32:31Speaker 5: gaps and hold up multiple gaps and multiple blockers so
- 32:35Speaker 5: that you can play a man short in the box.
- 32:38Speaker 5: And if they have penetration skill, well, now you can
- 32:40Speaker 5: use them on gap penetrations and run stunts and things
- 32:43Speaker 5: like that that allow you to play a man short,
- 32:47Speaker 5: which is all everybody is trying to do. How can
- 32:50Speaker 5: we get as many guys out of the box and
- 32:52Speaker 5: stop the run with six or seven man boxes. What
- 32:55Speaker 5: are the mechanics that we can use to do that?
- 32:57Speaker 5: And if you want to do that, you don't necessarily
- 33:00Speaker 5: need the space eating nose tackle. You kind of need
- 33:03Speaker 5: a tweener well who can penetrate but also eat up blocks.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Paul, is there an argument to me? And I'm probably
- 33:08Speaker 1: asking the wrong person for this, but is there an
- 33:10Speaker 1: argument to be made? Kayden McDonald's still there? Uh, you know,
- 33:13Speaker 1: if there, you don't maybe there's a run on the edges.
- 33:15Speaker 1: You don't love any of those guys kind.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of what I was getting at with
- 33:19Speaker 3: watching the way the board unfolds, and that, to me
- 33:23Speaker 3: is why it's so difficult to do MUCKs, like, you know,
- 33:26Speaker 3: without knowing exactly where everybody's gonna go. But I mean
- 33:30Speaker 3: I would hope that they will go in a different
- 33:32Speaker 3: direction than you know I got. But he's everything you
- 33:35Speaker 3: haven't said about Kyden McDonald. I think he is a
- 33:38Speaker 3: little bit different. He's not like this big you know,
- 33:42Speaker 3: I just I stand in the middle and take up space. Yeah,
- 33:45Speaker 3: he can get to a few of those oh you know.
- 33:47Speaker 3: You know Lee Hunter is a little like that too,
- 33:51Speaker 3: you know, like these guys are pretty athletic, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 3: the banks banks. To me, it was like I worry
- 33:57Speaker 3: a little bit about the foot. Yeah. But you know,
- 34:01Speaker 3: in reading some stuff about him, I thought it was
- 34:02Speaker 3: really impressive. And there was I read something from an
- 34:05Speaker 3: anonymous scout that was so impressed with him hurting the
- 34:09Speaker 3: foot easily could have been a first round draft pick,
- 34:12Speaker 3: just shut it down, but he played, He played through it,
- 34:15Speaker 3: ended up having to have surgery, and then fought to
- 34:17Speaker 3: come to get back before the end of the year.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I think that's something that might hurt his stock physically
- 34:24Speaker 3: but really help his stock in terms of how it's
- 34:27Speaker 3: going to be perceived among NFL teams. So that's an
- 34:30Speaker 3: interesting guy. I don't know exactly how he fits. He
- 34:33Speaker 3: seems like I'm not an expert f I don't try
- 34:35Speaker 3: to like break all the you know, the the zero
- 34:38Speaker 3: technique and all that stuff down. He just seems too
- 34:41Speaker 3: big to play inside like that.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Yeah, so I think that a lot of these guys
- 34:45Speaker 5: that were talking about are probably shade shaded noses, so
- 34:48Speaker 5: they're gonna probably play into the a gap like as
- 34:50Speaker 5: one technique. You know, some of them, I'm sure could
- 34:52Speaker 5: play odd front nose. I think Lee Hunter could probably
- 34:55Speaker 5: do that pretty easily just with his size. And then
- 34:58Speaker 5: we'll get to some true one tech zero tech mons
- 35:01Speaker 5: a second, the big Orange we'll get it. We'll get
- 35:05Speaker 5: But I think a lot of these guys, the McDonald banks,
- 35:09Speaker 5: even you know, going down a little bit, like to
- 35:12Speaker 5: Kristin Miller and those players. I think those guys are
- 35:16Speaker 5: one to two I to three probably at this level,
- 35:20Speaker 5: and you know, are are stuff in the run still
- 35:23Speaker 5: on the inside. It's all kind of like that's really
- 35:25Speaker 5: minutia and it really kind of comes out in the
- 35:27Speaker 5: wash for the most part.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Come on, Chris, take us, take us to Big Citrus Carr.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I'll give you.
- 35:31Speaker 7: I'll give you my two top big guys interior. Those
- 35:36Speaker 7: guys Skylar Gil Howard from Texas Texas Tech the other
- 35:40Speaker 7: defensive tackle. He did get injured this past season early on,
- 35:44Speaker 7: but just another guy stout big. You know, just Texas
- 35:49Speaker 7: Tech defense is really great this past year and he was.
- 35:52Speaker 7: He was a part of it until he went down.
- 35:54Speaker 7: And I think he you know, he he could have
- 35:56Speaker 7: been up there with Lee Hunter. I think if he
- 35:58Speaker 7: was able to play a full season. That's my person opinion.
- 36:01Speaker 7: And yeah, get into Big Citrus Dominique Orange. You know,
- 36:05Speaker 7: he's just your prototype, you know, three hundred and thirty
- 36:07Speaker 7: pounds Iowa.
- 36:09Speaker 5: State squatty, Yeah, squatty what we called them wide bodies, Yeah,
- 36:13Speaker 5: wi body.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I mean he I picture how the Patriots used Kayas.
- 36:17Speaker 7: Tonga this past season, and I think that's your vision
- 36:20Speaker 7: for Big Citrus.
- 36:21Speaker 4: And I mean I really like him.
- 36:24Speaker 7: He's a guy could go late second, early third in
- 36:27Speaker 7: my opinion if he if he's kind of still on
- 36:30Speaker 7: the board there, and I really love what he can
- 36:32Speaker 7: do here to stop the run. Can get a little
- 36:34Speaker 7: bit better at the end of the quarterback. You know,
- 36:37Speaker 7: obviously is a big guy like that, you're more expected
- 36:39Speaker 7: to stop the run. So I'm not saying that's his
- 36:41Speaker 7: main priority to fix, but you know, he loves to
- 36:44Speaker 7: play inside against guys on that old line and loves.
- 36:47Speaker 4: The interior battle. So I really love him as a
- 36:49Speaker 4: run stuffer.
- 36:50Speaker 5: Yeah, he's He's one of the strongest players in the draft.
- 36:52Speaker 5: It's it's really just pops off the film, how stronk
- 36:55Speaker 5: he is. It's not a lot of guys that can
- 36:58Speaker 5: just ragged all lineman and you know at that level
- 37:00Speaker 5: of D one football, and he certainly can do that.
- 37:03Speaker 5: He's got great size, really heavy hands, really big upper
- 37:09Speaker 5: body strength, and he kind of uses that lower center
- 37:11Speaker 5: of gravity as natural lower center of gravity to get
- 37:15Speaker 5: underneath blockers and hold the line of scrimmage. I would,
- 37:19Speaker 5: you know, just philosophically, I find it interesting with him
- 37:23Speaker 5: and the other great nickname in this defensive tackle class,
- 37:26Speaker 5: the Godfather, sorry Paul dot di carlyon, both those guys. Historically,
- 37:33Speaker 5: in recent history history with at least with the draft,
- 37:36Speaker 5: these guys have been devalued and where exactly do they
- 37:39Speaker 5: go in the draft. They've fallen a little bit, maybe
- 37:42Speaker 5: relative to what their tape would suggest, because they're situational
- 37:45Speaker 5: players like Dominie Gorange is gonna play on first and
- 37:48Speaker 5: second down, he's gonna play goal line, he's gonna play
- 37:50Speaker 5: short yardage. He's not going to play on third down
- 37:53Speaker 5: in the league. So he's what a forty five percent
- 37:57Speaker 5: snap count guy maybe at most. And so if you're
- 38:00Speaker 5: drafting that player in the top one hundred, it's a
- 38:04Speaker 5: question of value and all that good stuff. So we've
- 38:06Speaker 5: seen a lot of these types of guys, you know,
- 38:09Speaker 5: whether it's Big Citrus, whether it's Corleone, whether it's Timmy
- 38:12Speaker 5: Keenan from Alabama who's another one of these run stuffing
- 38:15Speaker 5: nose tackles. You know, all those guys have typically seen
- 38:19Speaker 5: themselves drop you know, half a round of maybe even
- 38:22Speaker 5: a full round. You know, Corleone also has some blood
- 38:24Speaker 5: clots in his history too that he has to work through.
- 38:27Speaker 5: Missed some time in twenty twenty four. With that, So
- 38:30Speaker 5: are these guys going to go top one hundred or not?
- 38:33Speaker 5: I think matters one like how many of these big
- 38:37Speaker 5: guys that we mentioned at the top go to teams
- 38:39Speaker 5: that need nose tackles, because then that group goes from
- 38:42Speaker 5: here to hear right, and then you have to worry about, okay,
- 38:45Speaker 5: which teams are actually using nose tackles, and that shrinks
- 38:48Speaker 5: it even more.
- 38:49Speaker 3: So.
- 38:49Speaker 5: I don't know if they're going to be top one
- 38:52Speaker 5: hundred guys because of all of that good stuff. But
- 38:53Speaker 5: there's no doubt that the two of those guys can
- 38:55Speaker 5: play some ball. I mean, they're great players.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Just a couple other guys I want to mention Kayleb
- 38:59Speaker 1: Proctor from Southeast Louisiana, who's just blew up the combine
- 39:02Speaker 1: all over the place. Really interesting guy jumping competition coming,
- 39:06Speaker 1: but I just, you know, talk about a guy who
- 39:07Speaker 1: maybe you can find in a little bit later.
- 39:10Speaker 2: He seemed to do it all.
- 39:11Speaker 1: And Zane Durant from Penn State, who just you know,
- 39:13Speaker 1: I don't know if you need another millon Williams. Christian
- 39:15Speaker 1: Barmore kind of quick off the ball penetrator type, but
- 39:18Speaker 1: I think that's a pipeline you should always keep running
- 39:21Speaker 1: and make sure it's stocked because interior pressure, especially in
- 39:23Speaker 1: this defense, seems like a key.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Those are two guys later that stood out to me.
- 39:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Caleb Procter is the top one hundred pick.
- 39:30Speaker 5: His pass rush tape is excellent. He reminds me a
- 39:33Speaker 5: lot of Milon Williams coming out of college. Millon Williams
- 39:36Speaker 5: are the third round pick. He is a very high
- 39:40Speaker 5: level pass rusher. I think Zane Durant right now is
- 39:42Speaker 5: a little bit more raw, like that's more combine drafting
- 39:45Speaker 5: off the combine and the athleticism. And the other one
- 39:48Speaker 5: I'll just throw out there is Grayson Halton from Oklahoma.
- 39:51Speaker 5: All three of those guys, if they're looking for still
- 39:54Speaker 5: the Milton Williams right, the undersize interior pass rusher. We've
- 39:58Speaker 5: talked a lot about run stuff. Those three guys fit
- 40:01Speaker 5: the other mold. It's just funny because normally that's what
- 40:04Speaker 5: we're talking about at the top of the draft, and
- 40:06Speaker 5: the nose tackles are at the bottom of the draft,
- 40:08Speaker 5: and this is one of those classes that has been flipped.
- 40:11Speaker 7: Yeah, anybody Chris Chris McClellan from Missouri, another big guy.
- 40:15Speaker 4: I really like his tape, and.
- 40:17Speaker 2: You like the guys, Yeah, run stop.
- 40:19Speaker 4: I mean a big guy got all the big game.
- 40:21Speaker 4: I feel like that's how it works nowadays.
- 40:24Speaker 5: Four inch arms, Yeah, those things always turned out to me.
- 40:26Speaker 7: It's like running into a net, you know, It's like
- 40:29Speaker 7: you're just gonna get hit clos.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I love him.
- 40:33Speaker 5: The long arm guys on the interior, to me, are
- 40:36Speaker 5: are really valuable because they can separate from blocks first
- 40:39Speaker 5: of all with their arms, but they also cast that
- 40:41Speaker 5: net where they can swallow multiple gaps with their tackle radius.
- 40:46Speaker 5: And if you have a little bit of lateral quickness
- 40:48Speaker 5: in there as well, then even better. But you can
- 40:51Speaker 5: just see them just bear hugging guys and swallowing guys
- 40:53Speaker 5: that you know running the ball through the a gaps. Right.
- 40:56Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's let's swing it over here to
- 40:57Speaker 1: our last position group of the front seven. That's the
- 40:59Speaker 1: linebacker group. And there's another really talented group, especially at
- 41:03Speaker 1: the top. I mean, RL Reese, what are you going
- 41:05Speaker 1: to call him an edge? We'll call him an off
- 41:07Speaker 1: The ball linebacker here. But I mean I got a
- 41:09Speaker 1: feeling the Patriots are gonna have to deal with him
- 41:10Speaker 1: in some capacity next year in the NFL, if not
- 41:13Speaker 1: with the Jets, maybe somebody else but him and Sonny Styles.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Sonny Styles was amazing at the combine. I mean, he
- 41:19Speaker 1: just looks like a dude.
- 41:20Speaker 2: He blew it up, crazy athleticism.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I think that stood out to me was like they
- 41:23Speaker 1: were just doing like flexibility testing, and this is like
- 41:25Speaker 1: a giant dude who just can do it all perfectly constructed. So,
- 41:30Speaker 1: you know, those two guys kind of kick things off
- 41:31Speaker 1: and then CJ.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Allen.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But actually before we get into that, just real quick
- 41:35Speaker 1: on the need. You know, Jack Gibbons is gone. They
- 41:37Speaker 1: brought in kJ Britt still see it as maybe a
- 41:40Speaker 1: long term need maybe that you know, seen a lot
- 41:42Speaker 1: of random mock drafts where they're throwing you know, Rodriguez
- 41:47Speaker 1: next to him, you know that kind of pick.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I do see it.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I don't think it's a huge need, but I do
- 41:51Speaker 1: see it as like a long term it splaying got
- 41:53Speaker 1: a little bit banged up last year.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Love to maybe plug in a guy with some potential.
- 41:57Speaker 3: I do think it's a need. I don't think it's
- 41:59Speaker 3: in need like say to use a first round pick
- 42:01Speaker 3: on or something like that. But I you know, not
- 42:04Speaker 3: only they lost Gibbons, but Jilani Savai gave him some
- 42:07Speaker 3: snaps last year too. He's gone, so obviously they like
- 42:10Speaker 3: what they got from Christian Ellis and in Splain is
- 42:13Speaker 3: obviously the one guy that never leaves the field. I
- 42:16Speaker 3: think they need more than that. And I think Splain
- 42:19Speaker 3: in particular is someone that I'm small se concerned about,
- 42:22Speaker 3: not by his play but just the wear and tear.
- 42:25Speaker 8: Yeah, year old line played a lot of played a
- 42:29Speaker 8: lot of football, So I do think this is a
- 42:32Speaker 8: you know, you know, call it a secondary need and
- 42:35Speaker 8: you know, sunny styles just just I know he's going
- 42:39Speaker 8: early in the draft.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Like like top ten.
- 42:43Speaker 3: I can't believe he ever played.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Safety at that size.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Yeah, Like he is an impressive athlete.
- 42:50Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I mean, I Ohio State defense is going
- 42:53Speaker 5: to have like all eleven guys I think drafted by
- 42:56Speaker 5: the time they wrap up there with Matt Patricia, I
- 42:59Speaker 5: would say this is probably one of my favorite classes
- 43:02Speaker 5: out of all the classes. The linebacker cross rocks. I mean,
- 43:05Speaker 5: it's great from Anthony Hill. So yeah, Anthony Hill.
- 43:09Speaker 7: And c J.
- 43:10Speaker 5: Allen, I think are two guys that are very very
- 43:12Speaker 5: different players that projected in similar ranges.
- 43:15Speaker 3: C J.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Allen is more the dirty work guy, like he's gonna
- 43:18Speaker 5: get his hat into the gap, He's gonna take away
- 43:21Speaker 5: away compressed space. He'll makes place. Hill flies around, He'll
- 43:26Speaker 5: is you know, they're not exactly the same, but I
- 43:29Speaker 5: think Dante High Tower to Jamie Collins right like Anthony
- 43:31Speaker 5: Hill Junior is the Jamie Collins. He's the guy that
- 43:34Speaker 5: makes some you know, the plays on the ball a
- 43:37Speaker 5: lot less understand you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 43:41Speaker 5: I'm not saying stylistically they're exactly the same. It's just
- 43:44Speaker 5: role and what they bring to the one.
- 43:46Speaker 3: He's an athlete with instincts. The other one is just
- 43:48Speaker 3: you know, a sort of I'm bringing.
- 43:52Speaker 5: I'm bringing my hard hat ring.
- 43:55Speaker 4: That was my personal favorite. I really like Cjen.
- 43:58Speaker 7: Again, you mentioned the clogging, and I feel like that's
- 44:00Speaker 7: been a theme for me on this on this episode,
- 44:03Speaker 7: and you know, I just think it's important.
- 44:05Speaker 4: For the Patriots to really address the run this year,
- 44:07Speaker 4: like it has to be a priority.
- 44:09Speaker 7: And I think they know that, but I really think
- 44:12Speaker 7: that you need a linebacker who can do it.
- 44:15Speaker 1: And well, I mean to that point, Chris, I mean
- 44:16Speaker 1: not to push back on you, but but I mean,
- 44:18Speaker 1: how do you feel about tight end coverage?
- 44:20Speaker 3: You know, and this is something we.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Talked a lot about. Do you address it with a safety?
- 44:23Speaker 2: Do you address it with one of these guys?
- 44:25Speaker 1: I mean, I look at you know, a guy like
- 44:26Speaker 1: Jake golda who's a little bit bigger, maybe more of
- 44:28Speaker 1: the Julyani Tavai type of linebacker that would play the
- 44:32Speaker 1: strong side a little bit. He's another one in that range,
- 44:34Speaker 1: as well as Josiah Trotter as another bloodlines kind of
- 44:38Speaker 1: a guy.
- 44:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I would think Rabel loves Jack Golday, I mean
- 44:42Speaker 5: just the way Jake gold excuse me, the way that
- 44:44Speaker 5: he plays his motor, the explosiveness to the football. Maybe
- 44:49Speaker 5: a little bit raw in terms of processing the game
- 44:52Speaker 5: right now, Like you see a little bit of hesitation
- 44:55Speaker 5: with him reading plays, but once he shoots his shot, man,
- 44:58Speaker 5: I mean, that guy's out of a can to the football.
- 45:01Speaker 3: He looks to me like a guy that'd be able
- 45:02Speaker 3: to dominate on special teams too. Yeah, which these kinds
- 45:05Speaker 3: of guys are going to have.
- 45:06Speaker 5: To fantastic athlete, you know, at the combine as well.
- 45:10Speaker 5: So I look at this as like, if you know,
- 45:13Speaker 5: gold is probably a little bit too high for them,
- 45:15Speaker 5: you know, he's probably gonna be a second round pick.
- 45:18Speaker 5: But you put him, you know, next to Robert Splaine
- 45:21Speaker 5: for a year, attach him to his hip, you know,
- 45:23Speaker 5: follow him around, study film with him, you know, get
- 45:26Speaker 5: to know that instinct in that you know, play processing
- 45:29Speaker 5: and reading blocks and all that good stuff. And Golde
- 45:32Speaker 5: has got all the tools to just be a heck
- 45:34Speaker 5: of a linebacker at the next level. So I could
- 45:38Speaker 5: go on and on about this class, but I think, what, Douce,
- 45:40Speaker 5: you just hit on it a little bit. Are you
- 45:42Speaker 5: looking for somebody that's complimentary to Robert Splaine or are
- 45:46Speaker 5: you looking for somebody in the pipeline to eventually replace
- 45:49Speaker 5: Robert Splaine? Because I think that those are two very
- 45:51Speaker 5: different things. You know, if you're looking for a player
- 45:54Speaker 5: that's complimentary, you're talking about a week sidelinebacker that can
- 45:57Speaker 5: cover that maybe can cover tight ends, that has some
- 46:00Speaker 5: sideline to sideline speed, you know, that sort of thing.
- 46:02Speaker 5: And I think you get into the Kyle Lewis's and
- 46:05Speaker 5: Harold perkins Is and those types of guys, when you
- 46:07Speaker 5: start talking about that, if you want somebody that's gonna
- 46:11Speaker 5: replace Roberts playing in the year, you know that's a
- 46:14Speaker 5: true mic like that's a true organizer, conductor of your defense.
- 46:19Speaker 5: That's a very different type of player in the class
- 46:23Speaker 5: like this. So it's a flavors thing again. But I
- 46:26Speaker 5: think in all these defensive positions, safety, linebacker, it's a
- 46:30Speaker 5: are you trying to improve the twenty twenty six team
- 46:33Speaker 5: or are you trying to keep the pipeline stocked for
- 46:35Speaker 5: twenty twenty seven and beyond.
- 46:37Speaker 7: Just to jump in, I mean you mentioned Paul mentioned
- 46:39Speaker 7: kJ Britt, the signing kJ Britt, you want to also
- 46:42Speaker 7: know what type of player he's going to be for
- 46:43Speaker 7: your defense, And I mean he shows flashes against the run.
- 46:47Speaker 4: But he also shows splashes against the passing game.
- 46:50Speaker 7: So you know how much value will kJ Britt have
- 46:53Speaker 7: in the passing game to help you make the decision
- 46:54Speaker 7: at linebacker that you might be interested in or might
- 46:57Speaker 7: be looking for.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I got to mention Jacob a Vegas
- 47:00Speaker 1: because he had a crazy season, and like I said,
- 47:03Speaker 1: I've seen Max with eight first round taking him probably
- 47:05Speaker 1: more in the mold of Spallane, but I mean seven
- 47:08Speaker 1: force fumbles this year to return for touchdown.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Talk about a conductor. He got a neck that's about
- 47:15Speaker 2: thirty five inches wide.
- 47:16Speaker 3: I mean he was. He was so good for Texas
- 47:18Speaker 3: Tech that he actually got like legitimate Heisman consideration. I
- 47:22Speaker 3: mean that's you know, you have to have a pretty
- 47:24Speaker 3: special year on defense to get to do that, and
- 47:27Speaker 3: he did, and that was a terrific defense. You know,
- 47:30Speaker 3: we talked a lot about and rightly so the Ohio
- 47:32Speaker 3: State guys Texas Tech had a lot of as the
- 47:35Speaker 3: you know as they say, dudes playing defense as well.
- 47:38Speaker 3: So he's he's an impressive athlete, did a lot of
- 47:41Speaker 3: different things. He's you know, you look into his story
- 47:44Speaker 3: a little bit too. He's an interesting guy.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Massive black helop copter pilot.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so he's and this is just stuff I know
- 47:51Speaker 3: from watching games randomly on Saturday Texas Tech. Like, I
- 47:54Speaker 3: didn't really do much research on him in the draft process,
- 47:57Speaker 3: but he's a guy that every time you watch Texas Tech,
- 48:00Speaker 3: like it's impossible not to notice him, like ten times.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Great mustache too.
- 48:04Speaker 5: Yeah, he's a really good player. I The one thing
- 48:06Speaker 5: I will say though about these types of linebackers, Like
- 48:09Speaker 5: does anybody hit anybody anymore? Because like that, that part
- 48:13Speaker 5: of it did drive me a little bit nuts with
- 48:15Speaker 5: someone watching some of these guys, I can I know
- 48:17Speaker 5: why they're good. I can tell why they're good too.
- 48:20Speaker 5: I the old school in me just loves the Dante
- 48:23Speaker 5: high towers, right, Like, who's the guy that's gonna take
- 48:26Speaker 5: on the blocks, Who's the guy that's gonna, you know,
- 48:28Speaker 5: have these big finishes on the ball. Like that's not
- 48:32Speaker 5: the guys we're talking about, Like, that's not Jacob Rodriguez,
- 48:35Speaker 5: That's not this class. So a little piece of me
- 48:38Speaker 5: when I was watching him was like, go hit somebody, man,
- 48:42Speaker 5: Like come on, you know, yeah, Like he's just kind
- 48:46Speaker 5: of like running around. But I do really like him.
- 48:49Speaker 5: You know, he's kind of top fifty player, I would
- 48:51Speaker 5: say in that sort of mold I mentioned Kyle Lewis
- 48:54Speaker 5: from Pittsburgh. I don't know who's gonna draft Carol Perkins.
- 48:58Speaker 5: I don't know where he's gonna play. I don't know
- 49:00Speaker 5: what his future holds. But the right coach gets a
- 49:03Speaker 5: hold of Harold Perkins is going to turn that guy
- 49:05Speaker 5: into a superstar. And they just have to figure out
- 49:07Speaker 5: exactly where to play him. I mean to run a
- 49:10Speaker 5: four to three eight at He.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Just came off a great protest, Yeah right, yeah, yeah.
- 49:14Speaker 5: Like there's got to be a role for him in
- 49:16Speaker 5: an NFL defense, you know, is it nickel star box
- 49:21Speaker 5: on the line of scrimmage?
- 49:23Speaker 4: More like a Rover guy too.
- 49:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know if Again, if they're trying to
- 49:28Speaker 5: be complimentary to Robert Splaine, you kind of let Robert
- 49:31Speaker 5: Splain do the dirty work. You let him do the
- 49:34Speaker 5: the regular stuff, and you let Harold Perkins just be
- 49:36Speaker 5: an athlete and fly around. And I can't help but
- 49:38Speaker 5: think that would be awesome.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:40Speaker 1: That gives back to how do you divvy it up?
- 49:42Speaker 1: Do you want big safeties? Do you want fast linebackers?
- 49:45Speaker 1: Anybody else? You guys want to mention here as we
- 49:46Speaker 1: start to put a bow on this epic episode.
- 49:49Speaker 7: I mean, one of the guys I like, just Justin
- 49:50Speaker 7: Jefferson out of Alabama. Of course, not Justin Jefferson the wide
- 49:53Speaker 7: receiver from Minnesota, but Justin Jefferson from Alabama. I really
- 49:57Speaker 7: like him, you know, kind of your balt linebacker can
- 50:01Speaker 7: help in the covers game, but another another stuffer.
- 50:03Speaker 4: So I like him a lot.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I kind of like Deontaylston too, and the other two
- 50:07Speaker 1: time captain guy can run pretty well rough.
- 50:09Speaker 2: But you know, maybe this is a developmental position too.
- 50:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I had both good names. I would just mention,
- 50:14Speaker 5: you know, because I was talking about kind of guys
- 50:16Speaker 5: that could replace Robertsplaine in the future. In the pipeline,
- 50:19Speaker 5: Aidan Fisher from Indiana was Indiana's Roberts plane. You know,
- 50:22Speaker 5: he's he was there. Captain Mike Linebacker made all the
- 50:27Speaker 5: calls on the field, made a lot of plays for
- 50:29Speaker 5: that defense, obviously won a national championship there with the Hoosiers.
- 50:34Speaker 5: He to me is one of the more fun like
- 50:36Speaker 5: fourth round targets. And then I would also mention, you
- 50:39Speaker 5: know Bryce Betcher from Oregon kind of similar Mole played
- 50:43Speaker 5: some safety at Oregon to started his career, then went
- 50:46Speaker 5: down in the box and played more linebacker baseball player
- 50:49Speaker 5: drafted in the MLB already as well, So good athlete.
- 50:53Speaker 5: I think both those guys are future field generals. Like
- 50:57Speaker 5: both those guys are gonna wear the green dot. They're
- 50:59Speaker 5: gonna play my climbbacker. So if you again want to
- 51:03Speaker 5: draft you know, Robert Spoayne's successor, then attach him to
- 51:07Speaker 5: his hip for a year, let Aiden Fisher you know
- 51:10Speaker 5: or better learn under Splaine, and then eventually replaced Spoyne
- 51:14Speaker 5: down the road.
- 51:15Speaker 1: All right, well, great stuff, a lot there to unpack,
- 51:17Speaker 1: big positions in need. That's going to do it for
- 51:20Speaker 1: this episode of Patriots Draft Countown presented by Bud Light.
- 51:22Speaker 2: But don't worry, we'll be.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Back next week as the draft is quickly approaching. Don't worry,
- 51:26Speaker 1: got you covered till then
