- Lucas: Hey, Luna! Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode 24 — can you believe it? We've come a long way since 'hello' and 'goodbye.' Lucas: We sure have. And today, we're building on something you already know: numbers. Luna: Oh, I remember numbers 1 to 10 from earlier episodes. 一, 二, 三, 四, 五, 六, 七, 八, 九, 十. Lucas: Nailed it! Great memory. So today we're going from eleven to twenty. Luna: Oh, that sounds easy. In English, it's a bit irregular at first, but in Cantonese? Lucas: Super regular. Eleven is 十一. That's 'ten-one' — 十 and 一. So literally 'ten one.' Luna: 十 — that's 'ten,' and 一 — 'one.' So 十一 is 'ten one' — eleven. Got it. Lucas: Exactly. Now try saying it: 十一. Luna: 十一. 十一. That's so logical! I love it. Lucas: Right? So twelve is 'ten two' — 十二. Luna: 十二. 十二. Okay, I think I see the pattern. Lucas: You do. Thirteen: 十三. Fourteen: 十四. Fifteen: 十五. Luna: Let me try them. 十三, 十四, 十五. Lucas: Perfect. 十六 — sixteen. Luna: 十六. And seventeen? That would be 十七. Lucas: You got it. 十七. Eighteen is 十八. Luna: 十八. Nineteen: 十九. Lucas: And twenty — now this is the first one that's slightly different. Twenty is 二十. That's 'two ten.' Luna: So 二十 is 'two ten' — twenty. That makes sense. Lucas: Exactly. Let's go through all of them once more from eleven to twenty. I'll say each, then you repeat. Luna: Okay, ready. Lucas: 十一. Luna: 十一. Lucas: 十二. Luna: 十二. Lucas: 十三. Luna: 十三. Lucas: 十四. Luna: 十四. Lucas: 十五. Luna: 十五. Lucas: 十六. Luna: 十六. Lucas: 十七. Luna: 十七. Lucas: 十八. Luna: 十八. Lucas: 十九. Luna: 十九. Lucas: 二十. Luna: 二十. Lucas: Wow, you sounded great. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're at a market and you see a sign with prices. Luna: Oh, like those little price tags? Okay. Luna: Perfect. Lucas: This apple is 十一 dollars. Luna: 十一 dollars? Eleven dollars? That's a bit much for one apple! Lucas: What about this orange? 十五 dollars. Luna: 十五. Fifteen. Still pricey. But I'll take it. Lucas: And these grapes? 二十 dollars. Luna: 二十. Twenty. Hmm, I'll pass. Lucas: Fair enough. So you just used 十一, 十五, and 二十 naturally. Luna: I did! It's really sticking now. Lucas: Let's do a little challenge. I'll say a number in English, you say it in Cantonese. Luna: Bring it on. Lucas: Twelve. Luna: 十二. Lucas: Eighteen. Luna: 十八. Lucas: Fifteen. Luna: 十五. Lucas: Twenty. Luna: 二十. Lucas: Eleven. Luna: 十一. Lucas: Nineteen. Luna: 十九. Lucas: Perfect! You're a natural. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This pattern is so easy — it's just 'ten' plus the unit, except for twenty which is 'two ten.' Lucas: Exactly. And from here, numbers 21 to 99 follow the same pattern. But we'll save that for another day. Luna: So today we covered 十一 to 二十. I think I've got them. Lucas: Let's do one more quick listen-and-repeat for the road. I'll say each from eleven to twenty, you echo. Luna: Okay. Lucas: 十一. Luna: 十一. Lucas: 十二. Luna: 十二. Lucas: 十三. Luna: 十三. Lucas: 十四. Luna: 十四. Lucas: 十五. Luna: 十五. Lucas: 十六. Luna: 十六. Lucas: 十七. Luna: 十七. Lucas: 十八. Luna: 十八. Lucas: 十九. Luna: 十九. Lucas: 二十. Luna: 二十. Lucas: And that's a wrap for episode 24. Great job, Luna. Luna: Thanks, Lucas! And listeners, practice these numbers — they'll pop up everywhere. From Fexingo, keep learning and we'll see you next time! Lucas: Bye bye! 拜拜!
