Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Ready for a new episode? Luna: Yes, I am! I love our little chats. What are we learning today? Lucas: I thought we’d go back to the pharmacy. This time, something a bit stronger: antibiotics. Luna: Oh, like when you have an infection? Good idea. I hope I never need it, but still. Lucas: Exactly. So the first phrase is: Ik heb een infectie. Luna: Ik heb een infectie. That means 'I have an infection.' Right? Lucas: Perfect. Now you can say that to the pharmacist. Repeat after me: Ik heb een infectie. Luna: Ik heb een infectie. Lucas: Great. Now, to ask if they have something for infections, you say: Hebt u iets tegen infecties? Luna: Hebt u iets tegen infecties? That's a bit longer. Let me try: Hebt u iets tegen infecties? Lucas: You've got it. Hebt u — do you have, iets — something, tegen — against, infecties — infections. Luna: So 'do you have something against infections?' That makes sense. Lucas: Now, if you also have a fever, you can say: Ik heb koorts. Luna: Ik heb koorts. Koorts, that's fever, right? Like 'I have fever.' Lucas: Exactly. So you could say 'Ik heb een infectie en ik heb koorts.' Luna: Ik heb een infectie en ik heb koorts. That sounds like a real problem. What next? Lucas: You'll probably ask about the price: Hoeveel kost dit? Luna: Hoeveel kost dit? That's 'How much does this cost?' We've used that before. Lucas: Yes, it's a classic. And finally, the dosage. For antibiotics, it's often: Tweemaal daags. Luna: Tweemaal daags. That means 'twice a day.' Twee is two, maal is times, daags is daily. So twice daily. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's put it together in a mini scene. Imagine you're at the pharmacy... Lucas: You walk up and say: Ik heb een infectie. Luna: Ik heb een infectie. Then the pharmacist asks something. So I say: Hebt u iets tegen infecties? Lucas: Perfect. And if you also have a fever: Ik heb ook koorts. Luna: Ik heb ook koorts. Then they give you a box, and I ask: Hoeveel kost dit? Lucas: Great. And they say it's ten euros. Then they tell you the dosage: Tweemaal daags. Luna: Tweemaal daags. That sounds manageable. Let me practice the whole thing. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: Ik heb een infectie. Hebt u iets tegen infecties? Ik heb ook koorts. Hoeveel kost dit? Tweemaal daags. Lucas: Excellent. You're ready for the pharmacy. Now, before we move on, I want to mention something. Lucas: 'Do you have something against infections?' Luna: Hebt u iets tegen infecties? Lucas: 'I have a fever.' Luna: Ik heb koorts. Lucas: 'How much does this cost?' Luna: Hoeveel kost dit?
