- 0:14Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:17I'm Luke and this is Amber. Hello.
- 0:20Together we're the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:22The count and Countess of contention.
- 0:24The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:26And the King and Queen of chorals.
- 0:29In this podcast, we argue about all things big and small, and we
- 0:32use the scientific method of letting the audience vote
- 0:36determine who the winner is. Many of our topics are
- 0:41frequently submitted by our listeners, which we actually
- 0:43like and need, so if you have something you want us to battle
- 0:47about, please share it with us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 0:52All right, here we are. It is our 20. 9th, 29th I
- 0:58remembered first, which is amazing.
- 1:00Kind of a little bit that's. OK, I'm fine with you
- 1:02remembering. 29th. Yeah, yeah, I didn't.
- 1:06I mean, I guess each time we go a little bit further than
- 1:09halfway through the year. I don't know.
- 1:11We just keep making it happen. Are we going to have like a like
- 1:14a 30th, like a 30th celebration, like a birthday?
- 1:17Dirty 30. Dirty.
- 1:18Oh oh, but we might have a topic.
- 1:22I don't know if we can go naughty, dirty.
- 1:25I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:27I don't. Know the topic about dirt?
- 1:30Is it appropriate to dig for worms with your fingers?
- 1:33Oh, the answer to that is no. Sometimes what?
- 1:35Appropriate. What if they come right up to
- 1:37the top after a rainstorm and you got to catch 1 to go
- 1:40fishing? I mean, I, I guess if you have
- 1:43to do that, but. They actually, I don't go
- 1:45fishing, so it's kind of a erroneous subject, but there was
- 1:49a time when I would have done that as a child.
- 1:52Yeah, I wouldn't have done that ever.
- 1:54Would you have eaten a worm? Oh, you know, did you?
- 1:57You. Feel like I was pressured into
- 1:59it at some point. No one would ask that question
- 2:02who didn't eat a. Worm.
- 2:04I probably have eaten a worm in my life.
- 2:06I might eat more than one, I don't know.
- 2:07More than one. I don't remember.
- 2:09It's probably probably a blocked out look at you looking at me,
- 2:12looking at me like I know. I don't know.
- 2:15I don't know, I feel like you'd remember specifically not eating
- 2:19a worm. I specifically remember that
- 2:21I've never eaten a worm. Not fair.
- 2:23Yeah, well, I'm I've eaten other things, but I've never eaten a
- 2:26worm. Oh, what have you eaten?
- 2:28Oh. God, we don't need to talk about
- 2:29it, I mean, but also I think. That a frog A.
- 2:32Frog. Mosquito.
- 2:34Have you eaten a frog? I don't.
- 2:36Yeah, but not raw. Not raw like frog's legs.
- 2:41Yeah, I've had frog's legs. Interesting you never had frog
- 2:44leg. No, my grandma used to love them
- 2:46though. There used to be a place in
- 2:49Frogtown. Oh yeah, the Frogtown Diner that
- 2:53served frog legs. It's no longer there.
- 2:55It's been gone for decades. But.
- 2:57I mean, that fits though, yes. You're in Frogtown.
- 3:00Served frog legs. Right, right.
- 3:02I don't know, maybe they do somewhere in there, but that's
- 3:04also getting very local. I would say you could let us
- 3:07know, but if you are interested and you have a place, drop it in
- 3:11the comments. Let other people know where they
- 3:13could try. There's a very special name for
- 3:17it but I don't remember. But if you want to let other
- 3:20people know where to sample frog legs, but.
- 3:24I had them in probably Florida. It was with my grandpa and it
- 3:32was so it would have been either in Virginia or Florida, I don't
- 3:35remember which place. Years ago I worked at a culinary
- 3:38school and I remember seeing all the little frog legs in the
- 3:41refrigerator. Oh, gross.
- 3:44Well, yeah, but I mean, before that I would have thought
- 3:46there's not that much on a frog leg.
- 3:49Well, a big frog. It must be.
- 3:52I don't know where they're farming these poor little frogs.
- 3:54But big frogs, Yeah, I caught a frog once that was like the size
- 3:58of a like a pancake. Well my brother and I both
- 4:01caught it and the thing could jump like 8 feet.
- 4:07It was crazy, was. It a frog or a toad?
- 4:11I don't think toads get that big.
- 4:13I actually guess I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it was a
- 4:15bullfrog, hence the name Bull. Because they're bigger, yeah.
- 4:19I don't know. Big, big green, kind of
- 4:22brightish green thing. It was so big.
- 4:24It was in upstate New York, way up by the Canadian border.
- 4:28At first we didn't think it was a frog, we thought it was like
- 4:32some random bright green moths just hanging out by a tree.
- 4:36And then it moved and we were like what?
- 4:39And we happened to be on a frog catching mission at the time to
- 4:41go fishing with black frogs because they're the best bait if
- 4:44you want to catch big fish anyway.
- 4:47So then we were little kids and decided, well, we got to catch
- 4:50this giant frog. So then we try to catch it and
- 4:52seriously, the thing would jump and it was like an 8 foot jump.
- 4:55So we were like running after this monster frog.
- 5:00We did end up catching it. We didn't try to go fishing with
- 5:03it. Well, I.
- 5:04Think my uncle made us like set it free or something which is
- 5:07probably for the best. Oh.
- 5:08It's a big frog, Yeah. Like that one gets to win,
- 5:10right? It seems like the last couple
- 5:13places we've lived we've had toads, not necessarily frogs
- 5:17now. The things in the trees that
- 5:19sing all the songs are tree frogs.
- 5:21I don't see them. I mean like I see toads and
- 5:23we've had. That's true.
- 5:24In the in the lawn, yeah. Yeah, and we've had dogs who've
- 5:27been obsessed with the toads are we had a dog who wanted to eat
- 5:32them and she would dig up every space to eat them, dugout under
- 5:38our patio somehow, and our whole sidewalk collapsed.
- 5:42I mean, she was going after those things.
- 5:44She was committed. But the one before it really
- 5:46loved the toads and was friends with them.
- 5:50I don't know if the the toads were friends with her, but she
- 5:53was friends with toads. I remember one time she had
- 5:57caught up, well twice actually. But I remember the first time
- 6:00she caught a toad. I didn't know if she had it in
- 6:02her mouth and she dropped it right at the door when she came
- 6:06in. And she's like, look at my
- 6:07friend. It was a present.
- 6:09It was, yeah. And I didn't want to touch the
- 6:12toad, but I didn't want the toad hopping around.
- 6:14I think I called you and asked you what on earth to do or when
- 6:17you were going to be home. I don't remember, just pick the
- 6:22toad up and put it outside. I think that's what I I.
- 6:25Sure hope so, because what else I mean.
- 6:28I mean, if you were going to be home in like 2 minutes, I'd have
- 6:30waited. I suppose.
- 6:32Yeah, I don't know, because I don't remember picking the toad
- 6:35up. I'm always afraid when I pick
- 6:37him up that I'm going to squish them, and I don't want to.
- 6:40I don't want to squish them. You have to be gentle.
- 6:43Yeah, well, but she would if she would catch them and she'd bring
- 6:47such breadman a couple times and she, I.
- 6:49Wonder if she secretly had eaten one.
- 6:51It was like you need to try this.
- 6:53I don't. No, not the way.
- 6:54Because she wasn't ever eating them.
- 6:56OK, well, not that you knew. No, she wasn't.
- 6:59She was a sweetheart, but OK. But Speaking of she's.
- 7:04Speaking of sweethearts, yeah, well, maybe not yet.
- 7:07She's kind of sweet. Yeah, we just added.
- 7:11Yeah, we did. A new member to the podcast
- 7:15family. Official addition to the FAM.
- 7:18Yes, yes she is a super cute 3 month old Great Dane dog.
- 7:28She going to be a big girl. She is going to be.
- 7:30We like big dogs. And we cannot lie.
- 7:34Yeah. We had A at some point we
- 7:38decided we were going to start downsizing big dogs after a
- 7:41couple of noofs we had. I was pretty committed to that.
- 7:46I was too. And then?
- 7:48We have this really great older dog, which is, you know, he
- 7:52tried to enter into one of our podcasts once or twice older.
- 7:57Well, he's older than the puppy. Well, OK, just makes you sound
- 8:01like you're saying he's a old dog.
- 8:02He's not old, no, but he's older than the puppy anyhow.
- 8:05He feels a little small frequently, that's true.
- 8:09And he is a Bernese Mountain dog.
- 8:11So I don't know if you're not a dog person, none of this matters
- 8:14to you. But if you do want to go Google
- 8:16sizes, it's it it's. Well, he's small for a Bernese.
- 8:20I mean he weighs 100 lbs. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:23So he feels a little smaller than what I'm used to, so.
- 8:27So you were like, I wonder if we just go hard to the top biggest
- 8:32dog there is. Yes.
- 8:34Yeah, because there's not a taller dog.
- 8:37There's not. There are heavier dogs.
- 8:39Mastiff wins the heavy award. Right, right.
- 8:42I learned recently when researching about the breed that
- 8:45there are cross between originally a cross between Irish
- 8:48Wolfhound and a Mastiff. Oh, a great.
- 8:52Dane an English mastiff? Yeah.
- 8:53Which is not, which is actually German.
- 8:57Right, and that some French dude thought it was a Danish dog.
- 9:02Yeah, but did they say why he thought that?
- 9:04I can't remember, yes, but I don't remember.
- 9:06I don't remember what it said. I don't know.
- 9:09I don't know, but not. But it's still, it's still a
- 9:13really cute dog. In Germany they call it Deutsche
- 9:15Doge. Yeah.
- 9:17Which is funny because it means the German dog in my brain
- 9:21because doggy means dog, but over there that means mastiff.
- 9:25Well, and we've been trying to figure out a name for her.
- 9:30We're close. Not going to be the vote for
- 9:34many reasons. I don't want to wait two weeks
- 9:37for a dog. Oh yeah, we're not putting that
- 9:39on the podcast poll. No, we appreciate if anyone
- 9:42wants to comment on what they think a girl Great Dane should
- 9:45be named right we're currently down to.
- 9:47Oh, don't tell anybody 3. No, you can't tell.
- 9:49I won't tell them we're down to three.
- 9:51Yeah. We don't give away names.
- 9:52We learned 1A hard way at once. Yeah, well.
- 9:55But it worked out OK. I mean what that but also if you
- 9:58ever have someone tell you about not a name and I actually have
- 10:02told like two people what names we were thinking and I but if
- 10:06you what? Are you thinking?
- 10:07I don't know. I don't know.
- 10:09But if you've ever told anybody or heard someone tell you about
- 10:12names, that this isn't the name. These are the things I'm
- 10:15thinking about automatically. You have an opinion as the
- 10:19hearer of the name. As the hearer.
- 10:22As the listener, like if I were to say I have two names, it is
- 10:27Jane and George, right? Automatically you say, well, I
- 10:31prefer Jane or I prefer George, or you could even say I don't
- 10:36like either name, right? Yeah.
- 10:38And for a lot of people, I'm sure that doesn't affect them.
- 10:43That's probably. True, but I feel like a lot of
- 10:45people naming is very personal so here's life hack #5. #5 we're
- 10:53up to five. How do you keep track of that in
- 10:55your head? I'm guessing on the five, wow, I
- 10:57don't think I've been able to get more than 5, but anyhow, and
- 11:02I'm going to give you 6 life hack number.
- 11:04Five, get ready for the blessings, people.
- 11:06Yes, do not tell anyone a name your thinking.
- 11:09Do not tell them the name. That's number five.
- 11:12Number six. Number six.
- 11:14If someone tells you names they're thinking do not have a
- 11:18reaction you. Could think.
- 11:20They're both good. I don't think that's a life
- 11:22hack. It should have.
- 11:23That's good advice, but I don't think because a life hack is a
- 11:27is a personal no improvement situation.
- 11:31You don't think that's not an improvement?
- 11:33I think it's good advice. I don't think that's a life
- 11:35hack. I don't care.
- 11:36You know what? Hey you.
- 11:37Are OK, so you're a life hack. I'm just saying.
- 11:40You're giving them away cheap today.
- 11:42Because here's the thing. Like we're. 29 episodes in and
- 11:45only up to #6 and we're trying to plug put 2.
- 11:48In there, who cares? Apparently you do.
- 11:51But anyhow, like, it doesn't. I mean, people names are so
- 11:54intensely personal. Now, I'm not going to say a dog
- 11:57name is anywhere near as personal as a kid name.
- 12:00But a lot of times, you know, if you have an opinion, the person
- 12:03on the other side has gone through great thinking most of
- 12:06the time as to why the name matters.
- 12:08And if you were like, I don't really like Mabel, right?
- 12:15Because maybe I chose Mabel because that's my grandma's
- 12:18name. So now we're like, Mabel sounds
- 12:20like an old lady. Yeah, I'm naming it after my
- 12:22grandma, right. Like.
- 12:24I feel like I'm being attacked. No, you're not being.
- 12:27What's your grandma named Mabel? You don't know my grandma.
- 12:30We've been together for how many years?
- 12:32And you don't know my grandma's. Name.
- 12:33That's not fair. I never met hey.
- 12:38I'm just. I don't think you've ever told
- 12:41me your dad's parents names. Oh my gosh, this is not true.
- 12:44No this. Is what maybe one time I'm
- 12:46pretty. Sure, this is what is called gas
- 12:49lighting I. Can't imagine you?
- 12:53I have to. Well, not a lot because they
- 12:55were gone before I came around, so it would not have come up.
- 12:59Sure. Same with your mom's side.
- 13:03OK, anyhow I would think after. I mean, I know your mom's mom,
- 13:07OK? Anyway, whatever.
- 13:08But we're not revealing names on there.
- 13:10But I mean, I'm just saying it's not, we've only been together
- 13:14for like 8,000,000 years, but that's OK.
- 13:17Oh my goodness. Gracious.
- 13:18Go back to the naming thing. I told a couple people and the
- 13:23reactions weren't what I wanted the reactions to be.
- 13:26And I thought that's interesting.
- 13:29And so when I told people just names of our dogs, you know, in
- 13:33the past and have not like they've not had the back and
- 13:37forth of what it will be. I like that our current dog
- 13:40people have trouble with. I know they do.
- 13:42I think it's a. They do.
- 13:45But I mean, I'm sure if we were to have told people, oh, we're
- 13:47thinking Toblerone, they would have been like, oh, who can say
- 13:51that? Nobody can say.
- 13:52It no one can say it, it's really fun.
- 13:54The good news is we named the dog for us.
- 13:57Right, right. And I think that's the important
- 13:58thing is you're I'm naming the dog for me.
- 14:00I have to say this name way more times than I want to say it on a
- 14:04especially as a puppy, you know, but anyhow, that was kind of
- 14:09some of the reaction and I'm thinking most of it wasn't the
- 14:12names that we're currently thinking.
- 14:14But I don't know, just it's just don't do it.
- 14:18Don't tell people your ideas for names.
- 14:20Save yourself that and save the other person from having to feel
- 14:24like they need to form an opinion.
- 14:25And again, those both sound like nice names.
- 14:29That's always a really valid option.
- 14:32Or I don't know. That's where I think a little
- 14:35white lie, if you don't like it, can be fine.
- 14:38OK, good to know. Fine.
- 14:41So you know, that's what we've been up to.
- 14:43Puppy Dome is. It's too much work.
- 14:48It's a lot. It's and I, we knew that, you
- 14:51know, not our first rodeo. We've had got it.
- 14:54What? A lot.
- 14:56I tried. I tried to count today and then
- 14:58I got confused. I don't think we're quite at 10,
- 15:02but we're getting close. We're definitely not at a dozen,
- 15:05but you know, yeah, we used to have like 3 dogs at a time for a
- 15:09little while. But I like dogs.
- 15:11I like dogs a lot. I think, well, they're just a
- 15:16lot of fun to have around. My favorite thing is that
- 15:20they're your best friend all the time.
- 15:22You come home from work and they're like, it's party time.
- 15:26I missed you so bad and I love you so much.
- 15:29Yeah, yeah. And it's pretty great.
- 15:31I mean, that's unconditional, you know?
- 15:35I mean, there's always some challenges, and I'm fine with
- 15:39the challenges. No dog is ever perfect.
- 15:41But I'm going to tell you, no dog of ours has ever had the
- 15:43same person. Animality.
- 15:46What is the word? It's not personality because
- 15:48they're not people. There's an actual word, but I'm.
- 15:52Going to animal personality. No, no, it's not a personality.
- 15:57OK, That's that's anamorphic. Well, I think animals are people
- 16:00too. Is that anamorphicizing?
- 16:02I don't the word no. Something anyhow.
- 16:06But no, there's I guess behavior I don't know.
- 16:09Doesn't matter. Temperament, Temperament.
- 16:11Sure, that's not quite the same. Behavior.
- 16:14Anyway, whatever. Anyhow, none of them have all
- 16:17have been the same. Some have been close, but none
- 16:19of them have been the same. So I'll be interested to watch.
- 16:22And when they're really young, they're usually a little bit of
- 16:25a sweetheart. Yes, that's where we're at right
- 16:27now. But I am also aware that they
- 16:32turn into monsters for a little bit.
- 16:34I really hope this one doesn't. Our last one didn't.
- 16:37What? Oh, our current dog.
- 16:41Yeah, the last puppy. No, he didn't.
- 16:43You're right. He was.
- 16:44Amazing. He was our second most amazing
- 16:46dog we've ever had for a puppy, second most, but every other one
- 16:53we've struggled with. But it's worth it because in the
- 16:58end you get a dog. And in the end, in this one,
- 17:01we're going to have a big old dog.
- 17:06And there was an episode many years ago where people learn
- 17:10that I liked big dogs. So living out a little bit of a
- 17:15childhood fantasy here, there's no way my parents would have.
- 17:20My dad might have, you know, my dad might have been OK with a
- 17:22dog that big, but there's no way my mom would have ever a dog
- 17:27that big in her house. I think the biggest dog I
- 17:31remember having was probably like 40 lbs.
- 17:34Oh, but she did have a bigger one once.
- 17:36That's right. Anyway, yeah so so that's that's
- 17:41been going on and we expect that that's going to be her life for
- 17:48a little while The worst part though, I think of a puppy. 2
- 17:55bad things about a puppy number one, this one's really bad right
- 18:03now. Potty training and and #2 is the
- 18:11amount of times they wake up in the middle of the night that's
- 18:14so awful. Related to the first one.
- 18:17A lot of times it is, but not always, not always.
- 18:21And we are in this really, really cold, cold vortex right
- 18:26now. And I know we always complain
- 18:28about the cold in Minnesota, but this poor puppy, she's potty
- 18:32training, learning to go potty outside and it's like going to
- 18:37be -40° tomorrow or something like that. -22 with like a 50
- 18:43below wind chill. That's ridiculous.
- 18:46And we've always had hairy dogs, really hairy dogs.
- 18:49And so they go outside and if it's too cold, they'll kind of
- 18:51turn around quickly. They'll still do their business.
- 18:54Nope, not her. She's frozen immediately and
- 18:58shivering and so oh. It's so cute and so sad.
- 19:02The little dog shivers. Luke used to make fun of people
- 19:06who would get their dogs dog sweaters and dog boots.
- 19:12That's true. And he's like, they're dogs,
- 19:14they're fine. They're made for being outside,
- 19:16you know? And then the second this little
- 19:19baby touched the outside world with us, he's like, she needs a
- 19:24coat, she needs boots. I mean within minutes of us.
- 19:28Well, she did. She was shimmering.
- 19:30The little poor thing, she was litter training inside.
- 19:35She was litter. Training inside and it's very
- 19:37cold. So in my defense, I would like
- 19:39if it was 30, I'd have been like, well, she could suffer
- 19:42through it and figure it out. Yeah, but it's been like mega
- 19:46cold. So she needed a little help.
- 19:49I still think she needs more help.
- 19:51We should wrap blankets around her or something.
- 19:53Well. I tried today to like so we we
- 19:56got boots and she's really good. She like immediately got into
- 19:59the boots. Very cute.
- 20:01Most dogs that I've seen, it takes them a bit of acclamation.
- 20:05They don't want it. They try to RIP them off.
- 20:07But she's like, OK, it's fine. And she got a nice thick coat.
- 20:13Not coat, vest, doggy vest, It doesn't matter.
- 20:15Yeah, vest. And again, she has no problems
- 20:19with that. But today it was so.
- 20:21Cool, I almost bought today. There's there's like little
- 20:23suits, whole body suits for these dogs you can buy.
- 20:27They're not cheap because they're made for like it's
- 20:31serious conditions like $100 where you can get a whole like
- 20:35whole suit, the cover like from from foot to every piece of the
- 20:40dog except the part they got to do their business with.
- 20:43It's it looks pretty cool on the Internet.
- 20:45I'm just saying. I mean, OK, OK.
- 20:47But the dog size we have, I know currently what she is today is
- 20:52like. According to the little booties,
- 20:53is XL. Yeah, well, I mean, her feet are
- 20:57already big. She's she's so adorable.
- 20:59But anyhow, like the the size she's going to be is nowhere
- 21:05near what she's going what she is today.
- 21:07Like right now, what 30 lbs, if that, you know, maybe 40
- 21:11somewhere in there. You know, she's going to get so
- 21:13much bigger. So you don't want to spend a lot
- 21:14on this this puppy clothes. But also on the flip side, we've
- 21:20had dogs who are so big that they couldn't really get like
- 21:24dog costumes or dog because they don't even make them that size.
- 21:28Men's Exhale T-shirts. Yeah, yeah, we've definitely
- 21:31done that for costumes before. I do recall though, like at some
- 21:35point I did see a place that was like like a big and tall for
- 21:40dogs and they did have a lot of Great Dane stuff.
- 21:44So if anyone is listening and knows of a great resource for
- 21:50Great Dane things. Yeah.
- 21:53Let us know. Let us.
- 21:54Know because it sounds like Luke is just wanting to make sure
- 21:57that she's comfortable forever. And it's so funny because I
- 22:02mean, this is, it's So what not, I mean, you love dogs, but
- 22:06you've never like fussed over. Well, I've never had one that
- 22:10shivered the second she went outside.
- 22:12The rest of them were like, cool, it's like I got fur.
- 22:15That's what it's for, right? No, their breeds are also
- 22:18mountain like we've had mountain dog, mountain dog, mountain dog,
- 22:20mountain dog like we've had. Well, I guess technically
- 22:24Newfoundland is not a mountain dog, but there are get in
- 22:26literally the North Atlantic and go swimming dog.
- 22:30So like we've had built for cold, I think like the last five
- 22:36dogs, New Finland. Makes sense, we live in
- 22:38Minnesota. Leonberger.
- 22:41Pyrenees. Pyrenees.
- 22:42I mean they yeah. And Bernie's like 5 dogs we've
- 22:45had. Every one of them has a super
- 22:48thick like double coat and this one's got like a nothing.
- 22:53A .01 coat nothing. There's a couple little tiny
- 22:56short hairs on her. But she's.
- 22:58A huge, adorable little outfit She's.
- 22:59Just so adorable in her little outfit.
- 23:03I don't know. I'm sure at some point here
- 23:05we'll post some pictures, but I don't know, you know you don't
- 23:11like that. Idea.
- 23:11I know I'm fine, I just realized we're so off topic so hard I
- 23:14actually forgot the topic we're supposed to be talking about.
- 23:17That's OK, we can keep talking about having.
- 23:21We could we could make up a question about dogs.
- 23:23I know we could. We.
- 23:24Could freestyle 1 the well we have a couple.
- 23:27Of I mean, I you're, yeah, so, but the other thing, so we said
- 23:32potty training is terrible. The other thing that's terrible?
- 23:36You said make it waking up. Waking up in the middle.
- 23:39Of the night. Is awful.
- 23:41Yeah, we are watching. Well, that's a solid segue.
- 23:44I just remembered what we were talking about.
- 23:46That's listen, 10 out of 10 people, you'll see.
- 23:49Yeah. Here we go.
- 23:50Bring it. Bring it.
- 23:51We are a little sleep deprived right now.
- 23:54That's true. Because when they whine in their
- 23:57kennel, sometimes it's to potty train, sometimes it's because
- 24:00they woke up, you know, whatever.
- 24:01Yeah, she's actually doing pretty good.
- 24:05We've had dogs who've woken up three times in the middle of
- 24:09the. Night you.
- 24:09Know and. Which one was the one we had
- 24:12that we literally were like drew straws like we were jumping off
- 24:15a ship or something it. Was yeah.
- 24:17Where it was like every two hours.
- 24:19Or something. That was our last noof she.
- 24:23Was was that buttercup? Yeah, yeah.
- 24:24Oh my. We got her.
- 24:26So I think we got her at about 8 weeks which makes.
- 24:29A difference so bad. Yeah, we couldn't talk to each
- 24:32other. We were like, we were so angry
- 24:35all, all the time. Terrible.
- 24:37Yeah, absolutely terrible. Yeah, and she had a like a
- 24:40little bladder issue we had two dogs with, but she had a bladder
- 24:43issue pretty early on. So, you know, she couldn't hold
- 24:47it, but I don't know it's. So anyhow, but lots of sleep
- 24:51deprivation, having to wake up early and and.
- 24:56And not for nothing, the couple extra side points just for my
- 24:59pain, I'm still healing from my surgery.
- 25:03So we're both suffering. So you can't sleep because you
- 25:06get it where you wake up easier than me.
- 25:09OK, I'm saying we're both suffering and then, Oh no.
- 25:13I didn't say we weren't. I was talking in general.
- 25:15Yeah, being woken up by a dog, People suffer from that.
- 25:21I wasn't talking about me specifically.
- 25:23OK, well, I was talking about me.
- 25:24I know you were welcome. To the Luke show.
- 25:27That's why I gave you the look. Like what in the world?
- 25:29Yeah, Well, that's by the way. It's hard for me.
- 25:33It's man. No, I don't listen.
- 25:37Are you coming at me? Of course it is.
- 25:40Right, It's hard for everybody to wake up in the middle of the
- 25:42night to dogs, but. I can't have no problems over
- 25:46here it. Was just really random.
- 25:50Because I do you want to know why maybe you'll find a little
- 25:54little heart and that Grinch hearty ears.
- 25:57OK, because when I wake up to the dog or in any morning for
- 26:01the last three weeks since my throat surgery, my throat is so
- 26:06freaking dry that it hurts and I got to drink water.
- 26:12But now with this puppy, I, I'm like she's whining, I better go,
- 26:17'cause what if she's like about to do some business, I'm gonna
- 26:20go save her from that doing it all over there 'cause then I
- 26:22gotta clean up every anyway. So I have not been able to
- 26:27'cause I'm not making an extra 5 second stop to get some water.
- 26:29I'm going right beeline downstairs to get the dog out of
- 26:33her crate to bring her outside. So I'm not drinking any water.
- 26:37So I'm just adding a little bit to the suffering.
- 26:39So take that or leave that. But that's that's how I feel
- 26:43about the situation. And yeah, it's no fun.
- 26:47Right, right. There's some some thoughts I
- 26:52have to help you out with that. But regardless, what I was
- 26:55saying was that the nice thing that we do is that, and we
- 26:59didn't do this for a long time, is that we trade off.
- 27:04I think did that come up with buttercup or was it 1 before it
- 27:07did it was so bad. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:10You were ready to kill me. Well, that was not fair.
- 27:12Because I sleep hard. You sleep so hard.
- 27:16You sleep so light. And so this was probably, I
- 27:20mean, before that we'd had a baby, you know, she's now quite
- 27:23a bit beyond a baby. Well.
- 27:25She ain't a baby, no. More, but like it was always I
- 27:28always had to get up with her. That's different.
- 27:31How is that? Different if you're, if you're
- 27:34prepared with needed supplements, it's different.
- 27:42We shouldn't go into. This let's totally want that to
- 27:44be another topic because you just want to win all the.
- 27:47Listen 12:00 to 8:00. You got to calm down.
- 27:50No, it's just trying to oh, as if that's never going on the
- 27:53podcast. You just default win.
- 27:56Good Lord. I don't know.
- 28:00Anyhow, my point isn't that I don't know why you think
- 28:03everything. And again, not everything's a
- 28:06competition. Sometimes things are.
- 28:08We're literally on a. Competition show right now, I
- 28:11know, but we have to have some. Conversation to bring substance
- 28:15that's true to our listeners we have well we.
- 28:18Are we're there, we have definitely been sleep deprived
- 28:21of late, Yeah, I mean, but it's only been.
- 28:23A couple days so like and last night was semi.
- 28:25Decent. I think she went like 6 or 7
- 28:28hours in a row, something like that.
- 28:30I've only had her for two nights.
- 28:32Oh hey, do you know what's? Nice.
- 28:34I feel good about this. I mean it.
- 28:36Last night I came down here and got her to go to sleep and I
- 28:39woke up with her. What do you mean I woke up with
- 28:42her? In the morning you woke up
- 28:46before her or with the sound to her.
- 28:49Her whining. Like I came.
- 28:52Down there wasn't a middle of the night one.
- 28:55Yes, OK. OK, I was gonna.
- 28:56I was saying that was nice. Especially for you who wakes up?
- 29:00Well, I woke you up. You didn't.
- 29:01Wake up too much. No, I'm saying you didn't have
- 29:03to. Wake up in the middle of the
- 29:04night. That's true.
- 29:06Talk about it's not a competition.
- 29:07Listen to you go the turn. Yeah, why don't you?
- 29:10Explain it some. More to me, what wouldn't even
- 29:13matter, it would. Have been your turn anyhow.
- 29:15OK, so never. It's not a competition.
- 29:19For sure. No, it's supposed to.
- 29:22Be like equal. That's not competitive.
- 29:28OK. I don't know like a.
- 29:30Shared responsibility. I agree.
- 29:33I've agreed. With it, the entire time I was
- 29:35merely pointing out the natural wind that occurred last night
- 29:39because of the dog. OK, great, OK, great.
- 29:44I mean so. What else are we going to talk
- 29:47about, Luke? Oh well.
- 29:50Amber, I have a question for you.
- 29:53Thank you. Well, I don't usually ask the
- 29:56question. Sometimes you got to remind me,
- 29:58cueing me up a little bit. Now you're supposed to say.
- 30:02Something like and then this OK. You're There we go.
- 30:05I actually did forget and. In this corner we have Luke
- 30:09weighing in at probably only £183 because he couldn't eat
- 30:13anything for three weeks, but also sporting a very fresh new.
- 30:23I don't know what this is, some kind of a hoodie that is like
- 30:26supposed to be tactical, made in made in the US or something
- 30:30tactical. I don't know I'll.
- 30:31Explain. These things, all of that.
- 30:34So that's where we are. He's coming in a little hot
- 30:38today. We we have changed it up a
- 30:42little bit, letting Luke ask the question.
- 30:44We've let him ask it before. You're gonna have to let me
- 30:46formulate. Some of them too.
- 30:48Oh my gosh, you totally have. Formulated him.
- 30:50He's really upset and thinks that it's been I'm getting my
- 30:53butt. Whooped thinks it's been.
- 30:55Unfair based on the questions which we previously discussed
- 30:59every time he's upset because currently we both have together
- 31:054 ties, 7 ties. Luke has won eight arguments.
- 31:13I mean, that's. True, and I have won. 12 so
- 31:18we're gonna see an experiment here to if Luke changes it,
- 31:24don't vote for Luke because he's mad that he's not winning but
- 31:27we're just yeah don't vote for me because I.
- 31:29Just had surgery and I can't talk.
- 31:31And none of that either. This is literally not the vote.
- 31:35And yeah, so there you go. That's what we've got over there
- 31:39and in this corner. Claiming to weigh in at 135 lbs
- 31:43with hair that looks redder every day.
- 31:47We have Amber with a shirt. Oddly enough.
- 31:51I don't know if we were planning on talking about dogs, but her
- 31:53shirt says all I need is this dog and that dog and the other
- 31:57dog and those dogs over there and the dog in the other room
- 32:02anyway because Amber, she really wants all the dogs.
- 32:05I love dogs. So here's the question, OK.
- 32:11Semi related to sleep. Deprivation What is an
- 32:18appropriate amount of time to. Snooze your alarm clock.
- 32:23For when you share a bedroom with your significant other.
- 32:28OK. You want me to tell you the
- 32:32time? Is that the question?
- 32:36Well, I don't know. This is why I don't ask the
- 32:42questions, people, because I'm just here for the talking.
- 32:47It's probably also why you're winning more, because I'm here
- 32:52for the what? 30 minutes versus.
- 32:55An hour I don't, is that OK? So that's the.
- 32:58Question. Well then I mean, I feel.
- 32:59Like you're just going to win. Maybe it's yes or no.
- 33:07OK, yes or no. What is the?
- 33:08Question then what do you think my.
- 33:11Average snooze amount of time? Oh my God, an hour.
- 33:16But lately it's not been there in school, it's not been OK.
- 33:21It's. Been more like, well, closer to
- 33:2530 minutes. If you average it out, it's
- 33:27probably 45, I don't know. OK, but the point is.
- 33:30I know you need there. To be a question.
- 33:32This is why I'm in trouble, because I don't know what people
- 33:35are. Going to vote on right now
- 33:36because I don't have an answer. What's the best dog breed?
- 33:39We've ever had. I thought about asking you that.
- 33:43Just to see where it would go. Because I would argue, well,
- 33:48we'll, we'll actually, we'll actually have it.
- 33:50We'll have a whole episode. No, we could.
- 33:52We could do. That question, I don't care.
- 33:54No, this is a really. Fun one for.
- 33:56People, because we could do whatever question you want to
- 33:59do, but it needs to be one or the other.
- 34:09And you would think. With this that we were.
- 34:10Live we're not we're pre recorded we're not Live we.
- 34:14It's like live every time though, because we don't come in
- 34:17here with a script. I mean, we just talk about
- 34:19stuff. I didn't know we were talking
- 34:21about dogs today. I mean, we always give.
- 34:23A little update about what's going on in our.
- 34:25I know, but I didn't know the. Whole thing, we talked about
- 34:27dogs. We're like the whole thing.
- 34:29I have no problem with that. Let's talk about.
- 34:30The breed I. Don't know you.
- 34:31Asked me a question. You choose the question.
- 34:33Hold on, I got to get back. To this alarm clock because
- 34:35that's the question we had talked about was how long do you
- 34:38snooze for? I don't think that's the
- 34:40question anymore and. Was it appropriate?
- 34:44Maybe we should talk about dog. Breed.
- 34:47I don't know man. Oh, this?
- 34:50Could not be scripted. No, we're going to.
- 34:52No, we're going with the. Alarm clock because we need to
- 34:54have a whole separate episode about the dog thing OK we do we
- 34:57do it's fine OK plus we. Just got a new dog breed.
- 35:01So that we got to grow and see what we think of her.
- 35:04OK. Anyway, OK, So the question is,
- 35:07the question is what is an appropriate amount of time to
- 35:12snooze your alarm clock for when you sleep in a room with a
- 35:14significant other? That's very well put.
- 35:18That's it. Not what is.
- 35:21Inappropriate. What is inappropriate?
- 35:23Sure. OK.
- 35:25I'm going to. Lose.
- 35:28You go, OK. So thank you for asking me that
- 35:33and thank the listener for. Listening, yes, thank you
- 35:36listener for. We're just all over.
- 35:39The place ride. It's a ride.
- 35:40Today and it you know the so we learned the last sleep
- 35:43deprivation. Will do.
- 35:44This is what we learned the last.
- 35:46Time with Luke it's a ride with the questions, so you know, I
- 35:49mean, but it's sort of kind of fun.
- 35:50Maybe I could do the? Next one too, I don't care.
- 35:53Sure. I'm totally fine with you
- 35:54asking, but I got to put the way it's put.
- 35:56Up on the On the what the? Words on the Internet.
- 36:00Too. I'm in the poll because you
- 36:01think that's the. Poll.
- 36:02I think that's tricky too. Oh my God, people will be.
- 36:04Just reading that. Thinking, Oh well, based on the
- 36:08way that's written, Mm hmm. Anyway, I mean what I love.
- 36:12Is that it's just not possible that you're wrong.
- 36:15I did get into. A whole discussion about pizza
- 36:17toppings today. Oh, you did?
- 36:19Oh yeah, And how I was just abhorrently wrong.
- 36:24How is it possible that? I would rather have olives than
- 36:27pineapples. I was like, what are you talking
- 36:29about this person? This listener clearly.
- 36:32Hello listener. No, they're just wrong.
- 36:34OK. So what is a reasonable amount
- 36:40of alarm? Sleep time?
- 36:41Is that what your question was? Snooze time, snooze time.
- 36:47Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What is a reasonable amount of
- 36:49time? To snooze your alarm when you
- 36:51share a room with a significant other.
- 36:54Right. OK, right.
- 36:54OK, here we go. So.
- 36:57For me, I think we'll go with snooze time because part of the
- 37:05thing I think of is is like a standard old alarm clock that
- 37:09you hit to shut it up. I've had one of those you've
- 37:12had. It had bells.
- 37:13Uh huh. You've had several of them.
- 37:16Again, We've been together for 800 years.
- 37:17We've Do you remember all my alarm clocks?
- 37:19Yeah, I remember you used to. Have three that would.
- 37:22Go off. Yeah.
- 37:22Please elaborate all. The different alarms different
- 37:25alarms in. One morning that would go off
- 37:28and then at some point you also added a phone into there, so and
- 37:34was this when I had to put them in?
- 37:35Different parts of the room. Oh God, it was.
- 37:38So bad because like, here's the thing, if I use an alarm, like I
- 37:43mean, most people don't get to don't have the luxury of waking
- 37:47up whenever they'd like, right? Sure.
- 37:49I mean, that's the dream one day, right?
- 37:51I mean, just let me wake up. I actually don't want to just
- 37:54wake up. Late all the time you do though
- 37:56I. Do I would totally like to wake
- 37:58up late, maybe like my mom, she's a night.
- 38:02Owl Yeah, I like to stay up late I.
- 38:04Like to wake up a little bit later.
- 38:06I like to let my body let itself wake up.
- 38:09There's nothing. And like, I like to just lay in
- 38:12the silence for a little bit, you know, it's just, it's really
- 38:16nice and it's peaceful, right? Like that's what I like a
- 38:19morning to be. I like a morning to be peaceful.
- 38:23We're not talking about days off.
- 38:24Don't. Get sidetracked, come out.
- 38:25So no, this is. All a part of why I feel the way
- 38:29I feel about alarms and and yes, you had an A ridiculous amount
- 38:35of alarms going off and we've had roommates and stuff like
- 38:38that and they've all been like, what on earth is going on?
- 38:41Literally it sounds like there's fire alarms going off and smoke
- 38:46detectors CO2. I mean, like, it just sounds
- 38:48like a, it just sounds like a, it's ridiculous anyhow.
- 38:54But for me, I think like thinking about when you want to
- 38:59wake up, what your ideal time is.
- 39:01And like, maybe this is what I do.
- 39:05OK, OK, ideal time would be whatever.
- 39:08Let's say my ideal time to wake up is 6:00.
- 39:11OK, I. Think.
- 39:14Setting my alarm for 5:45 if I'm trying to 6:00 is ideal, but I
- 39:22know I'm going to not really wake up until 6/10. 6:15, right?
- 39:30OK so that gives me a 30 minute window.
- 39:34Do you really set it just 15? Minutes before my ideal wake up
- 39:37time. Yeah, wow.
- 39:38And then I sleep. So I guess technically I know
- 39:40that it's 30 minutes, but I'm like, I don't mind being rushed
- 39:45in the morning at all. That doesn't bother me.
- 39:47I would rather have those last like because I'm not fully the
- 39:51first alarm once I snooze it. Cuz mine is set in 15 minute
- 39:55increments. If you had a discussion with me
- 39:57prior about how long the increments could be.
- 40:00And all that you had to see you were trying to trap me.
- 40:02You I was not trying to trap. You up put me in a trick bag.
- 40:05Oh my gosh, not at. All anyhow, so like I have the
- 40:0915 minutes and then if I fall right back asleep, I can
- 40:12actually fall back asleep in that time.
- 40:14It's not a competition. And then after.
- 40:16That I am taking that time from sleeping, you know, once that I
- 40:22hit the snooze, then it's 6:00. Now if I had to get up and I'd
- 40:26hop out of bed, but I got a little bit of time.
- 40:29So then I can just kind of peacefully lay there for another
- 40:3415 minutes and frequently be out of bed after I felt like I could
- 40:41get myself out of bed nicely. Look at you like a flower like.
- 40:45A flower just. A butterfly floating out of bed.
- 40:48You are a butterfly, so. Usually that.
- 40:51Happens before that last minute or two because I hate hearing
- 40:56alarms, everything. About.
- 40:59Alarms drives me bonkers and there's nothing restful for me
- 41:05in an alarm. And I think and I I should just
- 41:11not worry about it because there's no way you're hearing my
- 41:13alarms go off. There's just no way you are.
- 41:17But I also don't want to be disrupting someone else's sleep
- 41:21with alarms. Also, it just sounds awful to
- 41:23hear the alarms going and going and going, which is I think
- 41:27that's awful because I've had to live with that with the person
- 41:30who has had four alarm clocks spread all over the bedroom and
- 41:34then he'd hit snooze and then it.
- 41:36So it'd be like just this cacophony of just awfulness.
- 41:42Well, all I'm trying to do is sleep restfully.
- 41:46I have a hard time falling and staying asleep.
- 41:50Well falling not so much anymore but staying asleep.
- 41:52I have a really hard time with any little noise or movement or
- 41:56things like that. A lot of times will wake me up
- 41:59so I'm usually just regularly tired.
- 42:03But then you have this super loud annoying alarm that I know
- 42:08there is no reason for it to be set so early because you have 0
- 42:13intention of getting up that early.
- 42:16Like you set it at like, you know, an hour before you plan on
- 42:20waking up. I think 30 minutes with if you
- 42:25don't let it ring that second time.
- 42:27If you do fine. Sometimes it happens, it
- 42:30happens. If I'm lucky, it'll ring twice
- 42:32be, you know, like the snooze and then one more, right?
- 42:36So I guess that's technically three times going off, isn't it
- 42:39the first alarm? It's the amount of time.
- 42:41That's oh, sorry, 30 minutes there.
- 42:43You go. That's what we're talking.
- 42:44About, but I don't think that that's the.
- 42:46Same to, to me, I hear what you're saying, but we'll say 30
- 42:49minutes. But to me it's the amount of
- 42:51times as well within that time frame because like if I had a
- 42:54alarm going off at six, an alarm going off at 6:15, right?
- 43:04OMG if you want me to argue. My point I will, but if you want
- 43:06to argue it for me, you can just keep talking.
- 43:08No, I'm not. I'm just saying it's.
- 43:10The amount of alarm time, like the time amount of times it goes
- 43:13off that I think is most disruptive to other people
- 43:16because typically I can fall asleep after one alarm or
- 43:19something like that. So I'll say 30 minutes and for
- 43:23me on my clock, that's nobody asked.
- 43:27You that question, I just want to be clear, just want to be
- 43:31point of contention and point of order.
- 43:34I the question asked, ladies and gentlemen to the artful and very
- 43:41skillful arguer to my left was an amount of time.
- 43:49It was not how many times did it go off, it was not how many
- 43:54alarms you owned. It was how long.
- 43:57I just want to be clear. That's important, Sure, for me.
- 44:01Both those things matter, but if we're just looking at time and
- 44:0530 minutes is reasonable. If I'm not planning on waking up
- 44:09an hour beforehand or if I'm not planning like that just is
- 44:14wasteful to other people's earspace.
- 44:16OK, well let's let me. Talk about how I can waste your
- 44:18earspace. I know if I said that my.
- 44:21Battle was over. This is really fun cuz I never
- 44:24get to be the first. Person I argument.
- 44:28And so a lot of times I sit there and I, when I, when you're
- 44:32arguing and I, I try to OK, I gotta remember this point to go
- 44:35after. I gotta remember that point to
- 44:36go after. And I every time you're clearly
- 44:39doing OK. Every time I.
- 44:41Forget a good portion of them, but this one's kind of fun
- 44:45because you just had to kind of, well, good luck.
- 44:48I mean, you didn't fully, but you just had to sit there and
- 44:50listen. Well, I argued and then you're
- 44:54now going to argue back, which is kind.
- 44:58Of fun but. Before all of this, they're
- 45:01they're voting on your answer. It's there is no sympathy vote
- 45:06that you asked for earlier, so you can just vote however.
- 45:10You want he's. Begging for sympathy votes.
- 45:15Just saying I'll take what I can.
- 45:16Get I understand losing 12. To 8 even if some.
- 45:20Of you. If everyone sympathy voted me,
- 45:21you'd still be kicking my butt. That's the truth anyway.
- 45:26Are you done? Nice SO.
- 45:28Luke, what do you think is a reasonable no?
- 45:32What is What is the question to you?
- 45:34I am now. The floor is yours.
- 45:37I have not rested. I got a lot.
- 45:39I got a lot of. Answers Your case is super
- 45:41rested because you were long in the wind there.
- 45:45OK, so my answer is man, I don't know if there's a simple answer.
- 45:50First of all, let me address a couple of things that of late
- 45:58and I mean some months, my actual snooze time 30 minutes.
- 46:06It has been because I know that you don't like it.
- 46:08Now that being said, I can't and and I'm like I have tried to
- 46:14overcome this and people if y'all got some ideas, send me a
- 46:18message. I'm just there's I cannot wake
- 46:23up in the morning if it's early. I mean if it's later, I can wake
- 46:28up sort of easy. Like if it's like 8 or
- 46:30something, I got no problem waking up, but getting up at
- 46:33like 5:00 in the morning, 5:30 in the morning, like our kid
- 46:37gets up at 545 S. Getting up super early to be up
- 46:41when our child is awake is not easy to do, especially because
- 46:46we don't really go to bed like super early.
- 46:47Like we're not going to bed. Like I know people that go to
- 46:50bed at like 9:00. That is amazing.
- 46:53I don't even like I haven't even wow 9:00 that's just an
- 46:58inappropriate time. So we go to bed usually like
- 47:0010/10/30 something like that most nights.
- 47:04So the difficulty for me is like, it's a short amount of
- 47:10sleep no matter what. Like, you know, 'cause if I go
- 47:12to bed at 10, I don't fall asleep super easily.
- 47:15You actually fall asleep before me every night.
- 47:18So I'm typically up till I, I don't know, 11-11 to midnight
- 47:27depends on, you know, the day. And I read and Amber sleeps with
- 47:30the TV on, which just for the record, I actually hate because
- 47:35that has nothing to do with. Alarms.
- 47:37Well, it has. Something to do with part of the
- 47:39argument you were putting up stuff that wasn't part of the Oh
- 47:42yeah, I could talk. I get to talk because my sleep
- 47:46and dogs sleep and all this other deprivation and whatnot.
- 47:49And it's the light sleeping and waking up to guess what?
- 47:53Guess what? I can't fall asleep to the TV.
- 47:56Good news, I fall asleep. Before you.
- 48:00That's not good news for me because the TV is on and
- 48:03sometimes I tried to turn it off or even turn it down and you're
- 48:06like half sleep and you'll crack an eye open and be like, I'm
- 48:09watching that. I was like, wait, what?
- 48:11No, you're not. Anyway, so it's hard to fall
- 48:15asleep. So I typically fall asleep
- 48:16between 11 and midnight. And if I'm gonna get up on time,
- 48:19it's, it's around, well, 5:30 for sure, cuz our kid gets up at
- 48:235:45. And prior to that I gotta like
- 48:26make a cup of coffee so I can survive the morning.
- 48:31But I'd like to get up a little earlier cuz I have a morning
- 48:33routine where when I get up, I have a little quiet time.
- 48:35I read a couple of books, have some meditation and kind of get,
- 48:40it's like my chill time. Kind of like you talked about in
- 48:42the bed. I do that out of the bed.
- 48:44So I do try to get up a little earlier and I enjoy being up
- 48:49like as the first one in the house.
- 48:51I actually started waking up on weekends now on purpose, like
- 48:53earlier, like I've actually set an alarm.
- 48:55I don't know if you've noticed, but I've set an alarm a number
- 48:58of Sundays at like 9:00 or 8:30 I've noticed.
- 49:01Because I like getting up early. So anyway, so the amount of time
- 49:07that I set an alarm for is based on the sort of the lack of sleep
- 49:12that I have and how difficult it for me to get up.
- 49:14Now, if I went to bed at like, I don't know, 9 or 8 or something,
- 49:21I probably would get up super easily, but I don't because
- 49:24there's too much going on. And then the other reason that I
- 49:28don't get up easily is medical. It don't.
- 49:32Hey, this is just the truth. I have sleep apnea.
- 49:36It's the truth. I just had surgery for it.
- 49:38So it's bad And it makes it so that when I sleep, I do not get
- 49:45the same sleep as people who do not have severe obstructive
- 49:50sleep apnea. That is a fact, fact of my life.
- 49:55My score is so high that I have had a number of surgeries
- 49:58recommended to me over the course of my life.
- 50:02I almost never enter REM sleep and I've had like four or five
- 50:06sleep studies. So you probably enter REM sleep.
- 50:09Most people enter it after about 1520 minutes after falling
- 50:12asleep. I literally never enter it.
- 50:14And that's the restorative phase of sleep when your brain does
- 50:17all the crazy dreams and stuff. And I have so the sleep apnea is
- 50:23a lack of oxygen. So I I don't get as much air
- 50:26anyway. So I'm tireder and that is a a
- 50:29by product of having sleep apnea is you're tired all the time,
- 50:34but you know, it obviously makes it harder to wake up.
- 50:37So, so one of the reasons I have had so many alarms, as you
- 50:40pointed out in your argument, that were three and four
- 50:43different alarms. And they're ones that had bells
- 50:46on them. And I remember at some point
- 50:48putting them in different parts of the room so that I have to
- 50:50like get out of bed to go turn off the alarm.
- 50:54And all of that was was in service to two things.
- 50:59It was my lack of sleep and that when I'm asleep, I don't really
- 51:03sleep very well. So, so it's hard to get up.
- 51:08So I typically as a preference, if it's early, set the alarm for
- 51:12about an hour before I'm supposed to get up.
- 51:15Except lately it's been because because I know that it's, I'm
- 51:21not going to get up and you don't like it.
- 51:23So it's been more like 1/2 an hour, which is difficult because
- 51:26then I don't get up early. Sometimes I'm lucky and I get up
- 51:29like if I set my alarm for 5:00, I'll get up at 5:00.
- 51:31So every once in awhile, which is great.
- 51:33It's rare. The dog's been waking me up.
- 51:37So that's been, that's been easy.
- 51:39I don't need an alarm clock right now.
- 51:40She wakes up at 5:00 AM. But I do typically set it for an
- 51:46hour before I'm supposed to get up.
- 51:47So if I want to get up at 5:30 or 6 or whatever, I'm going an
- 51:51hour before that 'cause I need to.
- 51:54I don't know why. I just, I like it.
- 51:57Snooze a whole whole bunch of times and it's for about an
- 51:59hour. I don't love that I don't know
- 52:05of any thoughtful counters to it.
- 52:07Maybe there are, I don't know. I've tried so many alarms and
- 52:10different ideas that I feel. Isn't there like, some kind of
- 52:17alarm that zaps people awake? No, there must be, because there
- 52:21are people who can't hear. A sound alarm wouldn't do any
- 52:24good for them. How do they wake up?
- 52:26Sure there. Are, I don't know, man, you got
- 52:28me anyway. So I, I think, I think that I
- 52:34would say that weirdly enough, I think the answer to the question
- 52:37is the appropriate amount of time is whatever it takes.
- 52:42So any I mean, and obviously not shorter than yours, because that
- 52:48would be what's the point of the argument?
- 52:49It's obviously anything longer than.
- 52:51So whether it's an hour, 45 minutes, an hour and a half, two
- 52:54hours. There's been times where I've
- 52:55said it for like an hour and a half before before I wanted to
- 52:58get up. I used to set my alarm for like,
- 53:01was it like 4? And I would end up getting up by
- 53:03like 530 or something like that. There was a phase of that.
- 53:08You didn't like that very much? No, because like.
- 53:11I literally wake you up and you would be up, choose to turn the
- 53:18alarm off and then go back to sleep.
- 53:21I. Know go back to sleep.
- 53:21I understand, I just explained why it's not I under no, but
- 53:25that's. Anyway.
- 53:26Not your turn. So anyway, so for me, I think
- 53:31the answer is whatever it takes because there's different,
- 53:35there's different types of people and sleepers and phases.
- 53:39And like, you know, I'm sure there will be a phase in my life
- 53:42where I can wake up with the alarm and it'll just be easy.
- 53:45I'm not there yet. It has gotten better.
- 53:48I know it doesn't feel that way, but over the long span of life,
- 53:53I mean like when I was 20, I had four alarms and they'd be going
- 53:57off all over the room for a real long time.
- 53:59And I've now I'm down to one alarm and it goes off for more.
- 54:04Lately it's about 1/2 an hour, but but 45 minutes to an hour
- 54:08typically before I need to get up.
- 54:11So I imagine that maybe in five years it'll be less.
- 54:14Now, I did just get the surgery, so maybe it'll be corrective in
- 54:19such a way that I will need less time to alarm, hopefully for
- 54:24both of us. I don't.
- 54:25I don't like the idea of having terrible sleep for the rest of
- 54:28my life. So me neither.
- 54:30Great. Well, you've made it this far.
- 54:35You have some of you. That's true.
- 54:39I wonder. Now that I'm thinking about it,
- 54:40do they ever do in home sleep studies?
- 54:43Cuz I yeah, the next one. The next one.
- 54:45Is really I wonder if I. Could get an in home sleep study
- 54:49cuz I feel like my in home sleep is very different than like the
- 54:53two times I've slept. Not three times.
- 54:57You never had a sleep study? No, I know, but I'm thinking.
- 54:59If I got a sleep study, I'd be sleeping in a hospital.
- 55:02It'd be quiet. I'd probably sleep straight
- 55:04through. Just so nice.
- 55:06There'd be no, no, that's not what a sleep.
- 55:08Study they literally move you. They wake you up, they move you
- 55:12because for science, Amber, that's why I hate them so much.
- 55:16They're terrible anyway. So, so anyway, so my answer is
- 55:22whatever it takes. But you know, if you'd like it
- 55:24to be a versus, you could say 1/2 hour versus an hour, That's
- 55:28what you'd like it to say so that you could win.
- 55:30No, you're saying whatever. We could discuss it after the
- 55:32pod. You're saying whatever it takes.
- 55:34I'm saying 30 minutes is reasonable, whatever it takes.
- 55:37Could be two hours. That's unreasonable that you're
- 55:39sharing. Space with.
- 55:40Another human, but here I'm I'm of a.
- 55:42Belief that if you get to the point where you're sleeping
- 55:46together in the same bed, you know what you've gotten into.
- 55:51Oh gosh. And and you know what?
- 55:54You can make decisions based on that.
- 55:55Listen, if when I was 20 you could have left me.
- 55:59You didn't. That'd be a awful thing.
- 56:02Well, there's people out. There, I guarantee you there's
- 56:05people out there who have left, people like me or not, who just
- 56:10can't wake up for whatever reasons they have, whether it's
- 56:13just because they don't sleep enough or whatever.
- 56:15They got a condition, it doesn't matter.
- 56:18And I guarantee you there's people who have left their
- 56:20significant other because they can't get good sleep because
- 56:23their significant other sleeps like bad sleeps poorly.
- 56:30And I'm sure that's the case. And those are choices people
- 56:33make. I mean, people make all kind of
- 56:34choices in relationships and sacrifices to the other one.
- 56:37You think I haven't made any? You're you're incorrect and I
- 56:41know you've made some too. And that's how our relationship
- 56:44grows and gets better. So I, you know, I don't want to
- 56:47make you sleep worse for sure, right?
- 56:50Oh, I know. I think I've proved that pretty
- 56:53staunchly. Oh my God, lately.
- 56:56And you? Need to know it.
- 56:58You need to know it. That's important you that's a
- 57:00commitment. You don't think I?
- 57:02Do I'm just This is because I'm. Just throwing it out there.
- 57:05No, because it's fresh. Four times in the pocket
- 57:07because. It's fresh because it's.
- 57:08Fresh. I'm still on the healing path.
- 57:10I had the doctor follow up yesterday, he said.
- 57:13Everything's looking good. He pulled a stitch out of my
- 57:15throat. Yeah.
- 57:16So. I mean, it hurt.
- 57:17I'm on the healing pad. I still can barely eat a
- 57:19cheeseburger. But you know what?
- 57:21I ate 1 and it was so good. I love cheeseburgers.
- 57:24Can we have an episode about cheeseburgers soon?
- 57:26I love cheeseburgers. I don't know.
- 57:27We could, maybe? Do like we should oh toppings
- 57:31on. Cheeseburgers.
- 57:32No, we should. Reach out to cheeses on
- 57:35cheeseburgers. There's.
- 57:36Like a couple? Of food food bloggers 1 is on
- 57:41WFNU he's not really a Blogger but the unusual foodie we could
- 57:46see like hey where would you recommend for a burger and like
- 57:50cuz I I had my burger for like probably the month or two I
- 57:55don't know I don't really eat that many burgers I'm gonna.
- 57:57We're definitely gonna go I. Mean there's other things
- 58:01there's. Other things I need to be able
- 58:02to eat too. Yeah, like just my my mouth
- 58:05doesn't open as far as it used to, but I ate a burger, so I'm
- 58:08ready for a Taco. All right, well, let's try that
- 58:10a little bit longer. Tomorrow we can't.
- 58:13That's right. Tomorrow.
- 58:14We are not. Going.
- 58:16It's gonna be cold. Yeah.
- 58:19Yeah, I spout anyway, so. I don't.
- 58:24Know, I mean I guess. That could be the debate.
- 58:27No, wait, no there. Should have been an absolute
- 58:29debate. There's was that it We're not
- 58:31done. What are you doing?
- 58:32We're done The question. Yeah, OK.
- 58:36I thought you were saying you had more to.
- 58:37Say I was like, Dang, man, I thought you, I couldn't listen
- 58:40to me. It's over.
- 58:41It's over, it's over. That's probably for the best.
- 58:45And you should comment. If you like how Luke asks his
- 58:47questions, you know, hey, we can have him do a few more and
- 58:50recommendations. I'm.
- 58:51Taking recommendations on how to get up better.
- 58:54Yeah, yeah. Let us know, so don't send me
- 58:57recommendations on how to. Sleep better, I'm gonna get mad.
- 59:00What you need to do now? Like follow rate comment.
- 59:07Comment Most importantly, tell your friends.
- 59:10Tell your friends. Tell your friends.
- 59:12These two. Idiots ramble on about nothing.
- 59:15Yeah. For like at 45 minutes to an
- 59:18hour. Yeah.
- 59:18Every week, Yeah. And we're mostly, I think we're
- 59:21kind of funny. I think we're, I think we're a
- 59:23little funny. I think we can be.
- 59:25But not always, that's true. But sometimes people might.
- 59:28Like learn how to have a good solid argument at the house.
- 59:32I'm gonna plug them again. I.
- 59:33Feel like we probably have a couple times and by the time
- 59:37this one hits that station I don't know but WFNU 94.1.
- 59:42Frogtown Radio. We are.
- 59:45On Fridays at midnight. Still bonkers to me.
- 59:49But they're super cool. Super cool organization.
- 59:52Seriously. Like our rad factor went up so
- 59:55high getting a part of that. Wonder if we ever get to be.
