- 0:01Speaker 1: And now a morsel of murder with Gina Barberry radio
- 0:07Speaker 1: from Hell on X ninety six.
- 0:10Speaker 2: We've got lots of murder. It's more than a mercal morsel.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Actually, because the Lori Valo da Bell trial has gone to.
- 0:17Speaker 4: The jury, Okay, I wonder what they'll say.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Laura, Laurie Uh, representing herself, said I did not
- 0:26Speaker 3: commit this crime. It was not planned or expected. It
- 0:30Speaker 3: was shocking. That's not true because there's lots of evidence
- 0:36Speaker 3: that it was. In the closing arguments for the prosecution,
- 0:41Speaker 3: the prosecutor Tammy or the prosecutor k told jurors that
- 0:47Speaker 3: Valo's killing was a premeditated execution. How do we know
- 0:51Speaker 3: this because there are many, many, many text messages planning.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, this whole thing.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Well, now, the jury voted last night and they didn't.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You know, they didn't. They didn't come to illusion. They
- 1:05Speaker 1: could have reached over you know why they didn't. I
- 1:09Speaker 1: think they wanted just one more dinner on this meal.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Yeah, okay.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Prosecutor quoted a text which Lorie Dabell told Chad Dabell,
- 1:16Speaker 3: who she was, you know, having an affair.
- 1:18Speaker 4: With because he's so good looking.
- 1:20Speaker 3: That not getting Valo's life insurance money was a spirit
- 1:23Speaker 3: through my heart, and in another it said it was
- 1:26Speaker 3: likely that the dark spirit that had inhabited her husband,
- 1:29Speaker 3: who she called Ned, the dark spirit, was the one
- 1:33Speaker 3: that changed the policy before because they knew we were
- 1:36Speaker 3: going to get rid of him.
- 1:38Speaker 4: That's in a text she called the dark spirit Ned. Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 3: So her husband's name was Charles Vaalo, but she and
- 1:45Speaker 3: Chad would text back and forth about this dark spirit
- 1:48Speaker 3: Ned that had taken over. And she said when we
- 1:51Speaker 3: got rid of him in a text message, I'm sorry.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Ned's an accountant. He's not a dark spirit.
- 1:58Speaker 2: No, yeah, it is a bad spirit. I expect them
- 2:03Speaker 2: to come back today.
- 2:05Speaker 4: You think today, I can't imagine.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I think they want And then the breakfast, they were
- 2:09Speaker 1: a questioned, weren't they?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Uh, they were a question.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Case, said Dave Bell's religious beliefs, which witnesses testified to,
- 2:19Speaker 3: such as believing she no longer needed to repent, that
- 2:22Speaker 3: she was like Nephi in the Book of Mormon.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Now, I didn't understand what that meant.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And they explained it in the trial and the trial
- 2:28Speaker 3: to people that didn't know Nephi killed somebody and said
- 2:33Speaker 3: that God said it was okay, So am I getting
- 2:36Speaker 3: that right?
- 2:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:37Speaker 2: Basically, so she's like Nephi.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Now it almost doesn't matter if she's convicted of this.
- 2:44Speaker 3: It matters to Charles ballas family. But she's already serving
- 2:48Speaker 3: two life sentences in Idaho for her kids murders and
- 2:54Speaker 3: Tammy day Bell's murders.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Why didn't they ask for the death penalty? I don't know,
- 2:59Speaker 4: they have the death penalty in Idaho.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Maybe they didn't think.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Maybe they thought that because she's a woman, that the
- 3:07Speaker 1: jury would not convict.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Well, there's no physical evidence that she actually did the murders,
- 3:16Speaker 3: but she certainly orchestrated it.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So there's Laurie.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Okay, Now over my convalescence, Carrie Jackson's wife Sue said, oh,
- 3:26Speaker 3: you got to watch the documentary on the Karen Reid Story.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 3: After three weeks of jury selection, a panel of nine
- 3:33Speaker 3: men and nine women have been seated in the murder
- 3:36Speaker 3: retrial of Karen Reid.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Why are they retrying?
- 3:39Speaker 2: So they ended in a hung jury.
- 3:42Speaker 3: And after watching the documentary, and I told your wife this,
- 3:45Speaker 3: I get why it's a hung jury.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Ah, didn't I say from the beginning that her story
- 3:52Speaker 1: could be true that she didn't realize what she'd done.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Here's what I think. So here's the story.
- 3:56Speaker 3: John o' keef, sixteen year veteran of the Boston Police Department,
- 3:59Speaker 3: was found under sponsive in the yard of a now
- 4:02Speaker 3: retired Boston Police sergeant, Brian Albert. O'Keefe was pronounced dead
- 4:06Speaker 3: shortly afterward, a medical examiner attributing his death to hypothermia
- 4:10Speaker 3: and blunt force trauma to the head. Night before, the
- 4:13Speaker 3: couple had been drinking with other law enforcement officers before
- 4:16Speaker 3: they drove to an after party at Albert's home.
- 4:19Speaker 2: What followed is what's what's up for debate?
- 4:24Speaker 3: Now, this was an extremely poorly investigated crime, Okay, she says.
- 4:32Speaker 3: We went to the house and the house looked kind
- 4:35Speaker 3: of dark, and it didn't look like there was an
- 4:38Speaker 3: after party there.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So he got out. She said, why don't you go
- 4:42Speaker 2: up and see if this thing is happening or not.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And he got out of the car holding a vodka
- 4:48Speaker 3: and soda in a glass that he took from the
- 4:50Speaker 3: bar they just left.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Now, there's a blizzard. It's Boston, it's dark, it's late.
- 4:56Speaker 2: There's a blizzard, all.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Right, she said, She saw him walk up to the
- 5:00Speaker 3: house and go inside and didn't come back out, and
- 5:02Speaker 3: she waited and waited and waited, and went, that's I
- 5:05Speaker 3: forget this. I'm going home, all right. He never comes home,
- 5:11Speaker 3: so what's debated? And he dies in the snow outside? Okay,
- 5:15Speaker 3: she says, I think he went in the house and
- 5:18Speaker 3: got in a fight, and then they threw his body
- 5:21Speaker 3: out in the yard.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Hmmm.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I think what happened is she was very drunk, very
- 5:29Speaker 3: very They could tell from the bar how many drinks
- 5:32Speaker 3: she had had at the bar, like ten drinks at
- 5:34Speaker 3: the bar.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Really well.
- 5:35Speaker 1: She said that she she thought he got in a
- 5:38Speaker 1: fight in the house and got thrown out in the yard.
- 5:40Speaker 1: What did the prosecution allege? What did they say they
- 5:44Speaker 1: thought happened?
- 5:44Speaker 3: They they thought she purposefully hit in with her car
- 5:48Speaker 3: and she drove away. Now I don't think she purposely
- 5:52Speaker 3: hit him with her car. I think he got out
- 5:55Speaker 3: of the car, maybe tripped and fell, and she really
- 5:59Speaker 3: didn't see it.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And walk in the house.
- 6:00Speaker 3: She just assumed he did, and she got mad and
- 6:03Speaker 3: been backed up the car really fast and drove away.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And hit him and he died. So I can see.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Why a that's still murder.
- 6:14Speaker 2: It's not it's not murder. If it's an accident, it
- 6:17Speaker 2: would be manslaughter.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Manslaughter.
- 6:20Speaker 3: But I mean, that's so the prosecution is claiming that
- 6:23Speaker 3: she did it on purpose, that they were fighting, and
- 6:26Speaker 3: she and I don't think she.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Purposefully ran over him. I think she was drunk.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I don't think how can you prove that she was,
- 6:33Speaker 1: that she did it on purpose unless there are text messages.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Exactly, I mean, and there there are text messages that
- 6:41Speaker 3: they were fighting, but that they are retrying this this case.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So that starts today. So it's lots of big murder news.
- 6:50Speaker 4: So you'll just be rushing right home from oh yeah, from.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Here, Oh sure, yeah, from the dark spirit ned.
- 6:58Speaker 1: All right, did you see this text which one says, no, no, no,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Karen Reid did not kill him. One of the kids
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the house did and all of the adults covered
- 7:11Speaker 1: it up. You need TikTok, tina, Oh, that impeccable news source.
- 7:15Speaker 4: TikTok.
- 7:16Speaker 3: What are the kids in the do you want my
- 7:18Speaker 3: little tiny piece of evidence? Quickly, he had a glass
- 7:23Speaker 3: from the bar in his hand when he got out
- 7:25Speaker 3: of the car. His body was found with the glass
- 7:30Speaker 3: from the bar if he went inside and got in.
- 7:34Speaker 2: A fight, that's true.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Why would he He wouldn't hold onto that glass.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Get out your that's true.
- 7:41Speaker 2: He was hit by the car and he died in
- 7:43Speaker 2: the yard. And it was
