- 0:25Now, here's Pastor Ed to take us into our study.
- 0:30Amen. Take your Bibles and open them
- 0:33to Genesis chapter 24. So we start a new chapter
- 0:37Genesis chapter 24. I've entitled our Bible study a
- 0:41bride is chosen for the Sun. A bride is chosen for the Sun.
- 0:48As we've learned before the Bible is filled with typology
- 0:52types, and pictures, portraits, and symbols.
- 0:57They're all pointing to Jesus revelation.
- 1:00In terms of Messiah of his work, his love and his Redemption and
- 1:05it was Augustine. That first said, the Old
- 1:08Testament is in the New Testament, concealed.
- 1:12The New Testament is in the Old Testament revealed.
- 1:17It was his way of saying, look for Jesus.
- 1:20As you read through the Old Testament, Jesus would say in
- 1:24Luke 24:44 and then he said to them, these are the words which
- 1:29I spoke Talk to you while. I was still with you, that all
- 1:33things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses
- 1:37and the prophets and the, Psalms concerning me, Hebrews chapter
- 1:4210 and verse 7, then I said, behold, I have come in the
- 1:47volume of the book. It is written of me to do your
- 1:50Will O God types pictures symbols already in chapter 22.
- 1:58We Begin the most powerful picture of Jesus.
- 2:02In all the Bible, the Father Abraham takes his son.
- 2:07His only son is unique son. Isaac up to Mount Moriah to
- 2:14offer as a sacrifice and obedience.
- 2:18To God, this would be the very place that Jesus would sacrifice
- 2:22his own life and shed his blood for the Forgiveness of sins.
- 2:27Then, in chapter 23, we read of Sarah dying was buried.
- 2:35Isaac after the sacrifice as the sun came to live in his father's
- 2:41house, and Sarah, his mom dies. Sarah, now represents to us and
- 2:47added. Type the nation of Israel in
- 2:50this family. The sun is offered up in chapter
- 2:5422. She was put away soon after the
- 2:59death and resurrection of Jesus, the Jewish system would be put
- 3:02away politically and religiously.
- 3:06Now, as we come to chapter 24, the sun is offered Sarah's put
- 3:13away. The very next thing we have is a
- 3:16bride chosen for the Sun for Isaac.
- 3:21Isaac a picture. Jesus is waiting for his bride.
- 3:25After the Jewish nation is set aside a new person, comes on the
- 3:30stage, the bride biblically, that's us, the bride of Christ,
- 3:36then we'll get to chapter 25 and at Abraham's suddenly has a wife
- 3:42again, Israel is back in communion with the Father which
- 3:47we studied in depth Romans chapter 9, chapter 10.
- 3:52And chapter 11 Israel set aside but God is not done with Israel.
- 3:56He will then, during the last seven years of human history, we
- 4:00know that as the Great Tribulation period, God will
- 4:04turn his attention once again to the nation of Israel.
- 4:08After the Rapture of the church symbols and types and pictures
- 4:13are very important as you're reading through the Bible.
- 4:17It's important that you recognize at least in the very
- 4:21minimum No, the true stories. No, the life of Abraham, there's
- 4:27much to be learned about Abraham, the father of Faith,
- 4:30the friend of God. But there's always a deeper
- 4:33thing God's doing under the surface, pointing forward to the
- 4:39coming of Messiah. With that in mind, chapter 24,
- 4:42the longest chapter in the book of Genesis, and it's a major
- 4:46break in the second division of Genesis.
- 4:49If you're taking notes, we learn in the beginning.
- 4:52Beginning of our study that you could divide Genesis into two
- 4:54sections, primarily the first part.
- 4:57Chapters 1 through 11 covered for great events.
- 5:02The Creation, The Fall, the flood and the Tower of Babel,
- 5:08the second part of Genesis chapters. 12 through 50 covers
- 5:12for people, Abraham, Isaac. Jacob, and Joseph, who gets most
- 5:18of the attention toward the end of Genesis.
- 5:22As Abraham begins to fade out. And we'll turn our attention to
- 5:26Isaac. In this chapter, looking at his
- 5:29miraculous birth, his marriage and his death, as we continue
- 5:34forward. Longest chapter in Genesis why
- 5:38Because this is what human history is all about chapter 24.
- 5:43God the Father Gathering a bride out of all Humanity for the son
- 5:48speaks of his redemption in his love.
- 5:50You could summarize in One Way, chapter 24 of Genesis with John
- 5:55chapter 3 in the New Testament, verse 16, the God so loved the
- 6:00world that he gave his only begotten son, so that whoever
- 6:03would believe in him would not perish, but have everlasting
- 6:06life. God.
- 6:08Gathering a bride for the Sun. The church.
- 6:13It's almost like the Holy Spirit saying in chapter 24 to pause,
- 6:17pay close attention. He wants you to take that long
- 6:20lingering, look at his great love for you.
- 6:23No matter what you walked in with today.
- 6:25What you tune the radio on what you're carrying around?
- 6:29What baggage, you have or layer upon layer, upon layer of issues
- 6:34and hardship and concerns and worries and doubts.
- 6:38Pause and consider the Eternal work of God as demonstrated in a
- 6:43flawed family. Anything we learn with Abraham
- 6:47is the god uses flawed men. Anything we learn with Sarah, is
- 6:52that God uses flawed women and and flawed families.
- 6:58I know there's much to be said in our culture today about
- 7:01dysfunctional families and immediately, as you think of
- 7:04that word, you begin to think. Well, I have a dysfunctional
- 7:07family. I mean, we grew up in a
- 7:09dysfunctional family, but let me let you in, on a little secret,
- 7:12we all grew up in dysfunctional, families, as good as some of you
- 7:17had it, we could compare our families, of course, some of you
- 7:21had great families. Some not so much but all have
- 7:24been touched by the dysfunction of sin as Good.
- 7:28As anyone ever experienced it, it couldn't be the best because
- 7:32of sin and as bad as some of you did experience.
- 7:36And I'm sorry for the pain that you experienced, and endured in
- 7:40the family, you grew up in. It's because of the grace of God
- 7:43that it wasn't worse. They got protected you and
- 7:48guarded you from things that could have been even worse.
- 7:52Let's jump in. And notice the first few verses
- 7:55we're only going to tackle the first half because there's a
- 7:57verse in the second half of this chapter that I didn't want to
- 8:01gloss over. I want to spend a whole week on
- 8:02it, and I'll show you toward the end here.
- 8:06First one now, Abraham was old well, advanced in age and the
- 8:11Lord, Jehovah had blessed Abraham in all things.
- 8:16If you're taking notes Abraham's about 140 years old, I would say
- 8:21that qualifies for well advanced in age 140 years old, Isaac, his
- 8:28son is around 40. And yes, he's been blessed and
- 8:32all things, this man that took the step of Faith, to leave his
- 8:36homeland in chapter 12, Has been blessed in all things.
- 8:41His life of blessing has been. Such a great source of
- 8:44encouragement, for all of us. And we are experiencing the
- 8:50Overflow of the blessings in Abraham's life.
- 8:53Even now thousands of years later, I would say that's a
- 8:56blessed man that your life continues, we would use the
- 8:59phrase today that the legacy of your life continues to bless
- 9:03many others. After you're gone that your
- 9:06testimony and the power of your life.
- 9:07That's where Abraham is not only in the spiritual realm but
- 9:11physically he's very blessed. He's very wealthy, very rich.
- 9:17Any possessions that he's honored god with a good Steward
- 9:20of everything that God has entrusted to him.
- 9:24It's important to remember that to whom much is given much is
- 9:26required and to whom the person that is faithful with even the
- 9:31little will be given more and that's where Abraham is.
- 9:35He's been given more and more. Why?
- 9:37Because he deserves it. Not at all, but the same reason
- 9:41you and I have anything, it's by the grace of God.
- 9:44It's by his faithfulness and his goodness.
- 9:47Yes. Here he is at the end of his
- 9:49life toward the end of his life verse 2.
- 9:51It says so Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house who
- 9:55ruled over all that he had? Please put your hand under my
- 9:59thigh. That's an interesting request,
- 10:01get to it in a moment. I'll make you swear by the Lord,
- 10:04the god of Heaven, and the god of Earth that you will not take
- 10:08a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites
- 10:12among whom I dwell. But you shall go to my country
- 10:16and to my Kindred and take a wife for my son.
- 10:20Isaac, I want to make a covenant with you.
- 10:24As you search. I have a job for you servant and
- 10:27by the way he's unnamed here but most likely this is his key
- 10:32servant Eliezer. We're introduced to him back in
- 10:35chapter 15, very significant in the typology as well but he
- 10:39calls his servant over and says we need to make a covenant, the
- 10:42Covenant of having a Under the thigh was an intimate commitment
- 10:47of just a way to show, in ancient days of your commitment
- 10:51to keep a promise. We don't do that anymore.
- 10:54These days. It's a handshake or a signing a
- 10:56contract. It's very similar here in the
- 10:58ancient days. It wasn't a weird thing,
- 11:01although it might seem at its face but customary and normal
- 11:04and very important, it was showed a sign that what they
- 11:07were about to agree upon was very important and required more
- 11:12than just your word. There Was An Intimate connection
- 11:16and here's the agreement that he's asking a servant to make.
- 11:20Don't take a wife for my son from among the Canaanites that
- 11:25cannot happen. I want you to find a wife for my
- 11:29son, from my own Hometown, for my own people.
- 11:33Not among the Canaanites. Why a wife from his people.
- 11:39That's a good question. Well, we know that God didn't
- 11:42want the Bloodlines mixed for messiah.
- 11:46That's the simple answer. It's also a demonstration of
- 11:50Abraham's Faith here. Abraham would have if Abraham
- 11:56would have had a wife from the Canaanites, it would have gained
- 11:59him more wealth in an alliance with the people of the land.
- 12:03It would have Barry been a very if he was a wheeler-dealer.
- 12:06Like a lot was, this would have been a very strategic thing for
- 12:10him to do. Not acting in faith, looking to
- 12:14the Future, not trusting in God. But rather looking at the
- 12:18present and how can I secure my future for my family, for my son
- 12:22and for my Heritage in this land, this land of promise, for
- 12:26the future. What if God doesn't and what
- 12:28about? He could have said, I want you
- 12:31to find a wife. I'll just, we'll have an
- 12:32alignment find the most profitable, you know, most
- 12:35wealthy King, and we'll align ourselves and have a future here
- 12:40among the lamb, but God had already promised.
- 12:41Him a future. So he had a greater promise than
- 12:44an alliance could ever have. But avoiding the Canaanites was
- 12:48also practically, there's a spiritual reason.
- 12:51There's a faith. Reason, there's also a practical
- 12:54reason. The Canaanites were Wicked
- 12:56people. They were corrupt idolatrous and
- 13:02it's like Abraham saying, I don't want my son and his family
- 13:04corrupted by the sinful practices, I don't want him to
- 13:08be torn down by the world that's around us and it was very
- 13:13serious to Father Abraham. As it is with our father, the
- 13:19admonition against being unequally yoked stands today.
- 13:24We get the phrase unequally yoked from the New Covenant from
- 13:27the New Testament. It's very important.
- 13:30You understand that being choosing to be unequally yoked
- 13:35will cause you great pain and great sorrow.
- 13:40I noticed something else here with this is may be overlooked.
- 13:44But remember the ages Abraham's 140 years old.
- 13:48Isaac is 40 years old and Isaac is yielding to the wisdom of his
- 13:55dad. Abraham still has a great
- 13:58influence in his son's life. Even at age 40, Isaac respects
- 14:03his dad, he respects his dad in Finding a wife for him.
- 14:07For the customs of the day, for the leadership of his dad.
- 14:11He has great influence, not because he forced it upon him,
- 14:15not because he demanded it, but because I believe Isaac has seen
- 14:19enough of his Abraham's genuineness and enough of his
- 14:22dad's faith. He saw a few failures along the
- 14:26way, I'm sure as well, but he saw enough of his genuineness
- 14:29and faith. That there's an admiration
- 14:31admiration for his dad and his dad's opinion still matters and
- 14:37still means something to him. Even at 40 years old, Isaac will
- 14:42learn from his personality as it's revealed was a settled
- 14:45contemplative, kind of, man, he's a man.
- 14:49We find meditating praying in the field, sitting by a well.
- 14:54Well, Isaac was born to parents much, much later.
- 14:58His parents were very old. I would say having a kid at a
- 15:01hundred years old, very old. The homeless quieter.
- 15:07Wasn't a lot of activity with children and babies.
- 15:09It was a much quieter home that he grew up in and
- 15:12personality-wise even later in chapter 24, when his wife has
- 15:18brought, when we read of Rebecca coming to Isaac, he takes her
- 15:22into his mother's tent and he loves her and she gives him
- 15:25peace. It was very good chance.
- 15:27He's still mourning, the death of his mom.
- 15:30Isaac is that tender deep contemplative man as he is
- 15:36revealed. The scriptures.
- 15:39Let's review where we are with the types so you can follow
- 15:42along as we continue in the rest of the chapter.
- 15:44So far, we've learned, Abraham is a type of God, the Father,
- 15:49Isaac represents, Jesus, the son.
- 15:52Now, we have someone new mentioned just in these first
- 15:55few verses and that is Abraham's servant, Eliezer Eliezer, his
- 16:00name means, God is my help. Eliezer, the servant is a
- 16:06picture and a type of the Holy Spirit.
- 16:10He's mentioned earlier in chapter 15, we don't really know
- 16:14for sure if that's who this servant is.
- 16:17There's a good chance. The key relationship that he has
- 16:20the most important task Eliezer being the chief servant you can
- 16:24make a strong case that it's Eliezer here.
- 16:27But why isn't he named? If it is Eliezer we already have
- 16:30met his name. What would be a good reason for
- 16:32him, not being named? Well, I suggest to you that this
- 16:37has everything to do with what Jesus said in the typology.
- 16:40He about the Holy Spirit, hold your place in Genesis turn over
- 16:43to John chapter 16. Now John chapter 16 God weaving
- 16:50together, these things in the teachings of Jesus.
- 16:53When you get there, look at verse 13 with me.
- 16:55As the ministry of the holy spirit is described and this is
- 16:59very important to recognize. I think why Eliezer isn't named
- 17:03here. Verse 13, John 16.
- 17:06However, when he the spirit of Truth is come, he will guide you
- 17:11into all Truth for. He will not speak on his own
- 17:14authority, but whatever. He hears he will speak and he
- 17:18will tell you of things. Is to come notice the key
- 17:21Ministry of the holy spirit. In verse 14, don't miss this.
- 17:24He will glorify me for. He will take of what is mine and
- 17:30declare it to you. The primary Ministry of the holy
- 17:34spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ.
- 17:38It is not to draw attention to himself, it's not to whip the
- 17:42church up into a frenzy, so the church gets all the attention
- 17:46them, true Ministry of the Holy Spirit, A point to Jesus.
- 17:51So when the spirit is moving in a church, moving in a Believers
- 17:55life, moving in a family. When there's a wave of power
- 18:00from the Holy Spirit, active, when the spirit and viral
- 18:03inspires Revival, the talk in the language during that time,
- 18:08will not be about the spirit and the focus will not surround the
- 18:12spirit. The attention won't be on the
- 18:14Holy Spirit, but a true move of the Holy Spirit, you know, it's
- 18:18from God. God and, you know, the spirit is
- 18:20in the midst of it. When all the attention is on
- 18:23Jesus, Not on the move of the spirit, this servant being
- 18:28unnamed. Well, Isaac and the bride are on
- 18:31display in the story. The focus is on the sun waiting
- 18:37for his bride. It's not about Eleazar.
- 18:41He is a key. He is a key player in this but
- 18:44it's not about him. The title of my Bible study,
- 18:48isn't the servant. They go get too bright for the
- 18:50sun. That's watch the servant.
- 18:54That's be faithful like the servant this Bible study in its
- 18:58typology. This chapter is all about the
- 19:00son who's waiting for his bride. Eleazar is used now to gather as
- 19:07we'll see more elements. It's such a neat thing, verse 5
- 19:10and the servant said to him, perhaps the woman will not be
- 19:14willing to follow me to this land.
- 19:16Must They take your son back to the land from which you came and
- 19:20Abraham said to him beware it's the next warning.
- 19:24Number one don't get a wife from the Canaanites and number to be
- 19:28aware that you do not take my son back there.
- 19:31The Lord God Of Heaven who took me from my father's house and
- 19:35from the land of my Kindred and who spoke to me and swore to me
- 19:39saying, to your descendants, I give you this land, he will send
- 19:43his Angel before you, you shall take a wife for my son from
- 19:48there. And if the woman is not willing
- 19:50mark, this, if the woman is not willing to follow you, then
- 19:54you'll be released from this old only.
- 19:56Don't take my son back there, so the servant put his hand under
- 20:00the thigh of a Abraham as master and swore to him concerning this
- 20:05matter. This was a big task for Eliezer
- 20:09for the servant, it's a step of a faith and obedience for him
- 20:12to. This is what happens when you
- 20:14hang around, men and women of Faith you watch and you're
- 20:17involved in their steps of faith, God is going to move upon
- 20:20you to also take steps of Faith. You are inspired by the people.
- 20:24You hang out with Both positive and negative.
- 20:29The Bible warns us evil conduct company corrupts.
- 20:32Good habits, but men and women of faith.
- 20:35When you're surrounded with men and women of Faith, men, and
- 20:37women of the word, men and women of prayer, you know, what
- 20:40happens to you, you start praying, you start stepping out
- 20:43in faith, you start dreaming big for God.
- 20:47You find yourself filled with obedience Eliezer, being close
- 20:52to the man of faith is now given his own step of faith and
- 20:56obedience. Obedience and he was thinking
- 20:58about it as Abraham spoke. Should I take Isaac there?
- 21:01This is like a, this is impossible.
- 21:03Maybe if I took him there we can stand over to the side and he
- 21:06can look for the one that he's attracted to.
- 21:08What am I supposed to do? And he speaks up.
- 21:11No, is given the answer twice Abraham says no Isaac is in the
- 21:18land of promise. Representing the children of
- 21:21Israel here and he's not leaving it, ever it belongs to the Jus
- 21:26This Land Of Promise, he don't take him out and we're here
- 21:30right now and it hasn't been conquered yet.
- 21:33The Canaanites, fill the land. Don't take away from the
- 21:37Canaanites. Isaac.
- 21:38Still going to stay, Jesus himself, came and walked Among
- 21:43Us. It's one of the greatest things
- 21:47to think of the condescension of Jesus, the Eternal Son of God to
- 21:52draw near to you and me. He lived among us became one of
- 21:58us fully God and fully man, Isaac's in the land of promise.
- 22:02He's not going to lead it ever. God will be with you, Abraham
- 22:06says you'll find a wife. This is a 500-mile journey.
- 22:14That would take anywhere from a month and a half to two months.
- 22:21It's a long journey. But Abraham's Faith at this
- 22:25point, has grown, and grown, he is completely confident.
- 22:30That the servant will succeed with any of the concerns that
- 22:35his servant has. He releases his servant, but he
- 22:38sends them expect, he sends Eliezer expecting a wife to
- 22:42return. Abraham's 140 years old.
- 22:47And by the time you're 140 years old, your faith has grown over
- 22:51the years. And it reminded me of what a
- 22:54blessing, it is to hang around with saints that have been
- 22:58walking with the Lord, a lot longer than I have.
- 23:01They have a greater level of faith.
- 23:04I love to hear their stories, their faith stories, their
- 23:06failure stories. If you're born again and you're
- 23:10only a couple weeks in the Lord or a couple years in the Lord,
- 23:13it will not be difficult for you to find men and women that are
- 23:17ten years ahead of you. 20 years ahead of you and you can tell
- 23:22that you can ask them when you see them.
- 23:24When you meet them, tell me your story.
- 23:26Give me the details. Is there anything in your life
- 23:30that you overcame? And you can almost hear them.
- 23:33Say, sit down, son. Do I have a story to share with
- 23:36you by the time Abraham's 140? I don't believe and because we
- 23:42don't have them recorded that he's making the kind of sinful
- 23:45mistakes he made in his youth. We never again, read of him.
- 23:50Of course, in chapter 4. We wouldn't read that art
- 23:52chapter 24, because Sarah and I was already passed on into
- 23:55eternity but we don't read of him.
- 23:57Mistreating Sarah, we don't hear eat of that again.
- 24:01Those were youthful mistakes. In proportion, to his years of
- 24:07age. Those were youthful mistakes.
- 24:10And that can, as you continue to grow in faith surrounding
- 24:13yourself with men and women women of wisdom and experience.
- 24:19The rub off on you. There's another thing I want you
- 24:23to notice here, it's why we're taking our time in the first
- 24:25half. Go back to verse 8 with me.
- 24:29The holy spirit is going to find a bride for the sun waiting back
- 24:36with his father. And verse 8, says, if the woman
- 24:41is not willing to follow you, then you're released just don't
- 24:46take my son back there. If the woman that is the woman,
- 24:50that is the Angel of the Lord has gone before you.
- 24:53You're going to be fine, you're going to find her.
- 24:55She's not willing. Don't force her to come back,
- 25:01step back for the typology. Holy Spirit, going into the
- 25:06world to draw a bride. The church.
- 25:09Search for the sun. If you're not willing, God will
- 25:15not force you. No one comes into the kingdom
- 25:18forced. If you're not willing to repent
- 25:21of your sins today, God will not force you.
- 25:23We will not force. You, we went off, find you, and
- 25:26take your arm and twist it behind, and make you believe.
- 25:30We see this typology already like don't bring to, she doesn't
- 25:33want to come. She doesn't have to come.
- 25:36The Holy Spirit symbolized. By the servant here, will never
- 25:40Force someone to believe in Jesus.
- 25:44It will not be against your will.
- 25:46It won't be a surprise one day, you wake up.
- 25:48Oh no, I'm a Believer. It will be in cooperation with
- 25:51the Free Will that God has given to you.
- 25:54The Holy Spirit, Will plead with you, the Holy Spirit, Will
- 25:57convict you of sin. The holy spirit will draw you.
- 26:01The holy spirit will send people into your life.
- 26:04The gospel will be shared books will show up.
- 26:06Up, people will be praying for you.
- 26:08New people coming into work other people.
- 26:10There will be a lot of work of the Holy Spirit around you.
- 26:15As you recall the work of the holy spirit, that is with every
- 26:19human being in the world today is the holy spirit is with every
- 26:25single human being pleading, convicting drawing, but he won't
- 26:30Force you. Nobody is forced to follow
- 26:33Jesus. I know sometimes we wish he
- 26:35would part of our prayer. We get a little aggressive in
- 26:39our prayers and we're like that persistent Widow.
- 26:41Just knock knock knock talking won't stop, but he won't.
- 26:44He won't. See you.
- 26:46It's a decision. You need to make a decision.
- 26:49You may need to make tonight. Now, right now is this airing on
- 26:52the radio or online? It's a day of salvation.
- 26:58God is knocking on your heart asking you to open up.
- 27:03But he won't force himself through the door.
- 27:06So much typology pick up in verse 10 now.
- 27:09Then the servant took 10 of his master's camels.
- 27:13By the way, camels, were very rare to own during the time of
- 27:17Abraham, the fact that he had just could give up 10.
- 27:22Of them means Abraham was extremely wealthy.
- 27:26So he takes ten camels, he departs, for all his master's
- 27:29goods were in his hand. He arose and went Mesopotamia to
- 27:33the city of nahor and he made his camels kneel down outside
- 27:36the city of by a well of water at evening time.
- 27:39I'm the time when the women go out to draw water and then he
- 27:43said O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please give him me.
- 27:46Success this day and show kindness to my master Abraham
- 27:50behold I stand Here by The, Well of water that the daughters of
- 27:53men of the city are coming out to draw water.
- 27:56Now, let it be verse 14. That the young woman to whom I
- 28:00say, please let down your picture that I'm a drink and she
- 28:03says drink and I'll also give your camels a drink.
- 28:06Let her be the one to whom you have appointed for your servant
- 28:09Isaac and by this I'll know that you have shown kindness to my
- 28:14master. Two months of travel very
- 28:17uncomfortable on camels and a camel Caravan.
- 28:21He's had a lot of time to think about this.
- 28:23I believe you still concerned, but his concern now isn't to
- 28:28Abraham. He can't ask Abraham anything,
- 28:30he takes it to the Lord. He takes his concerns of the
- 28:33Lord, two months. He still sees.
- 28:35He's laying it before. You could even say like Gideon.
- 28:39He's laying a fleece before the Lord.
- 28:41And he's very precise. A god follows through on this.
- 28:45This would show that it is indeed.
- 28:47God working behind the scenes. This 500-mile journey.
- 28:54To where you're reading. You want to be a little careful
- 28:56because in between verses 10 and 11, the servant took the
- 29:00Masters. He arose and went, by the time
- 29:02verse 11 in between those two verses is two months time,
- 29:06500-mile Journey on camels. Careful reading of the scripture
- 29:10is important. Some of the lot has happened in
- 29:13between verses 10 and 11 and he speaks this prayer.
- 29:19Oh, god of my O Lord. God of my master, please give me
- 29:22success and he lays out before. God, all of these signs, he
- 29:27wants to see a sign. He wants to see something if the
- 29:31woman comes offers some water for his 10 camos.
- 29:34She's got to be the one. This would be no, easy task.
- 29:38As one commentator said this request that he made toward God
- 29:42would test Rebecca. We end up knowing it's Rebecca
- 29:45and a few verses but it would test the woman's kindness.
- 29:49Hospitality her industry and her willingness to help a stranger.
- 29:54There were parts of this. Whether he knew it or not, that
- 29:58would help confirm that. She was the one.
- 30:01He lays it before, the Lord, verse 15 and it happened before
- 30:07he had finished speaking. That behold, Rebekah who was
- 30:11born to Bethel son of milcah, the wife of nahor, Abraham's
- 30:14brother, came out with her picture on her shoulder.
- 30:18We looked at the Word suddenly in light of the conversion of
- 30:22Saul of Tarsus in Acts chapter 9.
- 30:24Suddenly suddenly quick on your way.
- 30:27Got my whole mind made up saw has a no Entourage.
- 30:29He's going to destroy the church in Damascus.
- 30:32The whole church is scared. Everything's there waiting for
- 30:35him to arrive and then suddenly Everything Changes.
- 30:38Well, this is the same with the servant.
- 30:40This is something that God does quite frequently.
- 30:42You're going and you're going and you're going even maybe to
- 30:46the point where you're given up. I don't know if it's ever going
- 30:50to change, you've come to settle that.
- 30:53This is the newness of life. You haven't given up completely,
- 30:57you love God, you trust God. But the eagerness of maybe it'll
- 31:02be today, maybe it'll be today, maybe it'll be this week, maybe
- 31:05two, maybe it'll be this year, maybe it'll be another 10 years,
- 31:08maybe it'll be, maybe it'll be before, you know it.
- 31:12You've Lost That urgency, that God could work in any moment.
- 31:17Is it gets heavy and it gets hard.
- 31:20Here's a prayer that even I have it marked and under I have an
- 31:23underlying and highlighted before he had finished.
- 31:28Speaking, God did The Impossible before it was even done some
- 31:34suggest that says he said, but it doesn't say that he said
- 31:38where other people could hear him.
- 31:40And so, some have suggested, this was one of those prayers,
- 31:42like Nehemiah just under his breath.
- 31:44You ever pray like that. Just a few little under your
- 31:46bread. Nobody knows.
- 31:47Saying it out loud. We pray out loud.
- 31:49When We Gather here, but many of our prayers, just under our
- 31:52breath, and our minds, nobody hears them, but God does.
- 31:56And before he's even done before he speaking, even if he speaking
- 32:00out loud out of his mouth, but very quiet.
- 32:03God, suddenly behold. There's Rebecca and verse 16,
- 32:09the woman was, very beautiful to behold.
- 32:11This is not just outward. Beauty, this Hebrew word can
- 32:15also refer to a, you know, Unique quality about her, not
- 32:20just physical Beauty. She was a virgin, which could be
- 32:23a word translated the Hebrew, young woman, but also a physical
- 32:27virgin where it says, no man had known her.
- 32:31And she went down to the well. Filled her picture and came up
- 32:35the servant random M and said, please, let me drink a little
- 32:38water from your picture. Now, he's putting his prayer to
- 32:42the test. He put his prayer to the test.
- 32:45Rebecca shows up. He's moving toward her matching,
- 32:49as we've learned in previous studies are all coming together.
- 32:51Matching. God does his part, man, has his
- 32:54part. Now he's stepping out on, even
- 32:58his prayer, he sees Rebecca catches her his attention, he
- 33:02goes over to her ring runs to her and her answer in verse 18
- 33:06must have just warmed his heart. I bet his heart's all beating
- 33:09and he's all nervous. And what is the I hope this all
- 33:13that's happening with him. It's happened so quickly in
- 33:15answer to his prayer before he's even done speaking and she says
- 33:20drink my Lord and she hastened and let her pitcher down to her
- 33:23hand and gave him a drink. And when she had finished giving
- 33:26him a Drink. She said, I'll draw water for
- 33:27your camels. Also.
- 33:31Until they finish drinking. And she hasten and empty your
- 33:35picture into the trough. Ran back to the well, to draw
- 33:38water and Drew for all his camels.
- 33:43There's a couple of ways of looking, at the, well, a camel
- 33:46could drink 25 gallons of water or more, and they estimate
- 33:50between 25 and 50 gallons. When we go to Israel, one of our
- 33:56stops on the tour is in the ghetto.
- 33:58And in megiddo, we have a cistern that would be typical at
- 34:02least in the first century, and all the way back into the time
- 34:05of Solomon still there, where it was a very large water reservoir
- 34:10that had stairs to go down into it, you would go down the
- 34:13stairs, get your water and come back up, back out, and she would
- 34:16have a large vase on her. A huge container on her
- 34:20shoulder. And you can imagine if that was
- 34:22the kind of Well, this was a very industrious woman.
- 34:28That offered herself to serve another type of well would have
- 34:31been a large opening where you could take down and you could
- 34:34put the picture down or another container and pull it back up
- 34:37and fill your picture. Either way, this is a lot of
- 34:39work for a long time for someone.
- 34:41She doesn't even know and God has been working on her
- 34:45developing her into the woman that she is even in preparing
- 34:49her for this visit. And this unknown man that needs
- 34:52help with his camels. Notice in verse 20 21 the man
- 34:57wandering. NG at her.
- 34:58How would you feel? We read into the scriptures and
- 35:01it all comes together and everything's fine, but what if
- 35:03it was you would you stand there wondering like what is going on
- 35:08here? This is amazing.
- 35:10I cannot believe this in my mind, I tried to create a
- 35:13scenario that would absolutely. No, I would know that.
- 35:17I know that, I know that I know and it's happening right before
- 35:20him and he's wondering, I think I do more than wandering knowing
- 35:25me. I'd probably do a little
- 35:26doubting too. I don't know, I'm not sure did.
- 35:30She was at all the camels? And okay, let me count.
- 35:33One, two, three, four, five. Hey, Dad did that.
- 35:37Is that one satisfied? Because she looks very that cam
- 35:40over there looks very upset that you get like just but notice
- 35:44he's wondering he goes he remains silent to know whether
- 35:48the Lord has made his journey prosperous or not.
- 35:52He's waiting from a were waiting for a word from the Lord.
- 35:55So it was when the camels are finished drinking.
- 35:58Being the man took a golden nose ring, weighing it.
- 36:01Half a shekel two bracelets for her wrist, Wayne 10 shekels of
- 36:04gold and said whose daughter are you?
- 36:07That's the key question, isn't it whose daughter are you?
- 36:12Tell me please is there room in your father's house for us to
- 36:15Lodge? So she said to him, I'm the
- 36:17daughter of bethuel milk, a son whom she bore Dan a whore.
- 36:21Moreover she said to him we have both straw and feet enough and
- 36:24room to Lodge. Then the man bowed down his head
- 36:28and Worship the Lord. I think you would too they
- 36:32worship and adoration just shocked of how fast God could
- 36:37work. How thorough he could work, how
- 36:40good and gracious, he was This servant, Who Loved Abraham loved
- 36:45his son. Wanted to be faithful went on
- 36:48this journey of Faith, two months month and a half two
- 36:51months of thinking about it. 500 miles up and down on a camel.
- 36:55Walking alongside the camel sleeping outside two and a half
- 36:59months of this arriving finally, it all comes together so quickly
- 37:05and he worships What a remarkable time in the life of
- 37:10Abraham's life is Faith rubs off and everyone around them.
- 37:14And it's worth reminding us again today, your spiritual life
- 37:18matters to you and to others your spiritual health, your
- 37:24spiritual commitment, your abiding life in Christ affects
- 37:29this church family. It affects us as a community of
- 37:32Believers, it affects our city that affects our community.
- 37:36It affects this metro area where Witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea
- 37:42Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth, your spiritual
- 37:45life, whether you've ever thought about it or not
- 37:48missionaries around the world depend upon your spiritual life.
- 37:54As each month, they receive financial support from this
- 37:57church and many other churches. Each month, they are praying for
- 38:01us. Praying for the health of our
- 38:04church praying. When they say the health of when
- 38:06I say the health of their Church, he's praying for your
- 38:08health and my help spiritually that we would live lives of
- 38:12obedience and surrender that we would be faithful and taking our
- 38:16Steps of Faith following the Lord.
- 38:20I wonder although no missionaries ever told me this,
- 38:23but I wonder how many missionaries are praying.
- 38:25I pray for the men and women of Calvary in Aurora to be faithful
- 38:29in their giving of ties and offerings.
- 38:32His ass to the giving of the ties and offerings.
- 38:34That are missionaries, are supported and where they're able
- 38:38to do the work that they're doing in Italy, or in Uganda, or
- 38:42in South Africa. Your spiritual health matters.
- 38:49Now, one more thing before we head out and then I'll show you
- 38:52just where we're going to pick up next time in verse 22, when
- 38:56he realizes that, this is the bride.
- 38:59What does he do? He gives gifts Eliezer the
- 39:04servant a type in a picture of the Holy Spirit.
- 39:08When he gathers, the bride, when you become a part of the body of
- 39:11Christ, when you become a part of the bride of Christ.
- 39:14What does the Holy Spirit give you?
- 39:17Gifts, Ephesians chapter 4. First Corinthians chapter 12,
- 39:23Romans chapter 12. God gives forth gifts to you
- 39:27through the Holy Spirit. And the typology is this
- 39:30continues, the servant, he rejoices, he worships a response
- 39:37to answered prayer, a response to Steps of Faith, a response to
- 39:42the presence of God. Even after this journey, no
- 39:45longer under the covering of Pam distant from him.
- 39:48Now he's living out his life of faith and God meets him there,
- 39:53and that's his response. Worship as we've learned, and
- 39:59we're learning creates an atmosphere.
- 40:02But our response are our worship is a response to all that God
- 40:06has done even on our worst days. But on our best days, we come
- 40:13and we die to ourselves and we'll respond to the goodness of
- 40:16God. Whose the same today yesterday
- 40:19today and forever, God is worthy of our worship.
- 40:24No matter what we've carried into the room today.
- 40:27God is worthy of our worship. No matter what the circumstances
- 40:30of our life might be God is worthy of our worship.
- 40:34Whether we had a great week or a horrible week, or scary week or
- 40:38a confident week, whether we were obedient whether we Read
- 40:43our Bible or prayed. God is worthy of our worship.
- 40:47He's worthy of our submission. He's worthy of our receiving of
- 40:53the gifts in relationship to the work of the Holy Spirit.
- 41:00She says in verse 27, he said blessed be the Lord.
- 41:06God of my master Abraham who has not forsaken his mercy and his
- 41:09truth toward my master and this is the phrase we're going to
- 41:12focus on as we finish the rest of the chapter next time.
- 41:15Ask for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of
- 41:20my Master's Brethren. So the young woman ran told her
- 41:24these things to her mother's house.
- 41:27So, they're young woman, young woman, ran and told those of her
- 41:30mother's. House these things.
- 41:33Mark, this this is one of the passages as I've shared before
- 41:36my Bible, That's Green. This is a life verse for
- 41:40Ministry and serving God. As for me, he says, being on the
- 41:44way, the Lord led me. What is the way, the way of
- 41:49obedience surrender, faith. When I'm on the way the Lord
- 41:53leads When I'm on the way, he gives you take the first step,
- 41:57he gives the second step and the third step, if he gave all of
- 42:01the steps, some of you would never go.
- 42:05If he told you, what, awaited, you a year or two, or five years
- 42:08down the road, it may so undermine your faith of today,
- 42:11you just have a little Mustard Seed, Faith to take the first
- 42:14step. Just a little mustard seed to
- 42:15take the first step, but if you knew everything that you were
- 42:18going to face that Mustard Seed would be wiped away, its mustard
- 42:22seed upon Mustard Seed, its faithfulness of God although he
- 42:26went and obedience to Abraham he is now living the fruit.
- 42:30The servant living the fruit of his faith.
- 42:34He is living the fruit of his faith and there's so much more
- 42:39that awaits us. Read the rest of the chapter and
- 42:42meditate on this phrase. Ask for me being on the way.
- 42:49The Lord led me some of you need to get on the way.
- 42:54I often will refer to that as stop sitting on your hands,
- 42:58doing nothing for the Lord, you got to get on the way.
- 43:02This is God's will for your life.
- 43:05Get on the way. What?
- 43:06He's how he's made you how he's gifted you.
- 43:09What direction? Somebody may have given you a
- 43:11little small prayer under your breath.
- 43:14Get on the way. Open yourself to be used by God.
- 43:20Begin to pray. These bold prayers, laying it
- 43:24before him. And give God a chance to reveal
- 43:29himself in a special way. Father, I thank you for the
- 43:32truth here in this section Eliezer such an encouragement
- 43:38Abraham, Isaac. Now, Rebecca, Who's just a
- 43:42uniqueness about her Abraham is a blessed man.
- 43:47Surrounded by unique women. That reflected Your Glory.
- 43:54Women, who trusted you God. Who as in the Proverbs were
- 43:59industrious and kind and hospitable.
- 44:05Who were willing to serve and go out of their way.
- 44:12With care and concern for those that are around them, including
- 44:14a stranger. And father in these last days.
- 44:20I'm encouraged by sweats so much is in your scriptures.
- 44:24So much as foretold of what we now get to live out in the New
- 44:29Covenant. And I just pray God that we
- 44:32would not take it for granted, forgive us.
- 44:37For taking these matters for granted.
- 44:40But also we thank you for revealing these such things.
- 44:44This typology and pictures all throughout the Bible being
- 44:49reminded today. Of the person in the work of
- 44:54you. Holy Spirit, not drawing
- 44:56attention to yourself. But always pointing to Jesus,
- 45:00always testifying of Jesus, always guiding us into truth.
- 45:06Gifting us, enabling us empowering us.
- 45:12We give you glory and I And honor.
- 45:17Thank you God for suddenly bringing about change.
- 45:21We pray for that Sudden Change. We pray God for that sudden
- 45:25healing. We pray for that sudden
- 45:26encouragement. We pray today for that sudden
- 45:29Clarity we prayed for that sudden Financial provision.
- 45:33We pray God for that sudden sudden sudden work as you've
- 45:39been with us all along. Thank you.
- 45:42God, in the When it's obvious, we choose to thank you when it's
- 45:48quiet, We Praise You. In The Light and we praise you.
- 45:53When it's dark, we trust you. God, even if it's just a little
- 45:58mustard, see we trust you. And we pray for you.
- 46:02Overpowering anointing of your spirit Upon Us in Jesus name.
- 46:07Amen, we pray that you've been encouraged by this Bible.
