- 0:16Speaker 1: Excited to have a comedy call right now with one
- 0:18Speaker 1: of my favorite local comedians. And I haven't seen him
- 0:21Speaker 1: on stage in a long, long time. We've got Adam
- 0:23Speaker 1: Wilka joining us right now. And he's going to be
- 0:25Speaker 1: performing at Billy Frogs on Thursday and at the Grain
- 0:28Speaker 1: Bin on Friday. And you were out for a late
- 0:30Speaker 1: night open mic last week. But up until that, you
- 0:33Speaker 1: haven't done comedy in a little while.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Have you, Adam? I have not, my friend. It has been, gosh,
- 0:39Speaker 2: I don't think... I think the last time I did
- 0:42Speaker 2: a real serious set was before my oldest son was born. No, no.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It was in the first year of his life, though.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And he is six. So it's been a minute.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It has been a minute. And this Thursday and Friday
- 0:56Speaker 1: is kind of like a throwback for me. Some of
- 0:58Speaker 1: my favorite comics that I haven't seen in a while.
- 1:00Speaker 1: So we've got Adam Wilke, who we're talking to right now.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Jake Cox, who is also extremely funny. And I haven't
- 1:05Speaker 1: seen him do comedy in forever. And Reed Baxter, who
- 1:08Speaker 1: I met the very first time I ever did stand-up comedy,
- 1:11Speaker 1: he was on that same exact show. And I've known
- 1:14Speaker 1: him for years. And again, I haven't seen him do
- 1:16Speaker 1: comedy in a while. So I reached out to all
- 1:19Speaker 1: these folks and said, hey, would you guys do me
- 1:21Speaker 1: a big favor and come out and do a show?
- 1:23Speaker 1: And every one of you said yes. I'm so excited.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And again, for folks that maybe haven't had a chance
- 1:29Speaker 1: to see Adam Wilka do comedy ever, what kind of Humor,
- 1:34Speaker 1: would you say you're known for? How would you describe
- 1:36Speaker 1: your style of comedy?
- 1:39Speaker 2: You know, that's a really hard question to answer, John.
- 1:42Speaker 2: How many do you ask? Let's see. You know, I,
- 1:46Speaker 2: I would say I, I'm a storyteller. Yeah. I, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 2: obviously I've, I've had six years of kids. I got
- 1:55Speaker 2: three of them now. So I've got a lot of
- 1:57Speaker 2: material to draw from there. Yeah. But I also like to,
- 2:02Speaker 2: I don't know how to describe it. I like to
- 2:04Speaker 2: hit people with an unexpected punchline. Oh yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well, and that's one of the things that I've always
- 2:10Speaker 1: liked about your humor. It's, sometimes kind of feels like
- 2:13Speaker 1: it just comes out of left field because you got
- 2:15Speaker 1: this story that's going this way and then boom, out
- 2:17Speaker 1: of nowhere, this other thing. And to me, that's fun.
- 2:20Speaker 1: That's a really fun way. You know, my stories are
- 2:22Speaker 1: all just kind of true stories that I do dumb
- 2:24Speaker 1: stuff and I just tell the dumb stories. I don't
- 2:26Speaker 1: have to think about it a whole lot because I
- 2:28Speaker 1: just keep doing dumb stuff. But yours, it's very smart humor.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And I like that and I appreciate that.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Thanks, man. Don't get me wrong. There's a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 2: dumb stuff, too. Because like I said, I have three
- 2:41Speaker 2: kids under seven. So trust me, there's some stories that,
- 2:48Speaker 2: you know, they're literally some of these jokes. It's literally
- 2:51Speaker 2: just stuff my kids have said and done. So it's
- 2:54Speaker 2: an easy joke to remember. Absolutely.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Well, I am excited to have you on the stage
- 3:00Speaker 1: on Thursday night at Billy Frogs. We've been doing that
- 3:02Speaker 1: show since February. Have a nice crowd each Thursday. And
- 3:06Speaker 1: in the middle of the summer, I was worried because
- 3:08Speaker 1: I'm like, man, when it gets warm, I wonder how
- 3:09Speaker 1: this is going to go. And we still had, like,
- 3:12Speaker 1: even on the lowest night, 25, 30 people. But there
- 3:15Speaker 1: are times we'll have 50, 60, 70 people in there. So, again,
- 3:18Speaker 1: come out and join us. It's a free show at
- 3:20Speaker 1: Billy Frogs every Thursday. And then we just started doing
- 3:24Speaker 1: a thing at a place called The Grain Bin. That's
- 3:26Speaker 1: the back room at the Red Eye on North Cliff Avenue.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And there is a ticket for that one. It's in
- 3:31Speaker 1: a separate room. It's a little different situation. But the
- 3:34Speaker 1: cool thing is it's the same people that own both.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So they're like, hey, if you don't want to buy
- 3:37Speaker 1: a ticket, just go see the one for free on
- 3:39Speaker 1: Thursday at Billy Frogs. We're cool with that, too. But
- 3:42Speaker 1: I would like for you to come up and see
- 3:43Speaker 1: that room. And I'd like it so much that I'll
- 3:45Speaker 1: even give you a free ticket if you register today.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Go and sign up. We're trying to get some folks
- 3:50Speaker 1: to be out on Friday nights and have some fun
- 3:52Speaker 1: with us and see this new room. You were there
- 3:55Speaker 1: last week for the late-night open mic. It's a pretty
- 3:57Speaker 1: cool room, isn't it?
- 3:58Speaker 2: It's an awesome room. I really like what you've done
- 4:00Speaker 2: with the place, John, because I remember back in the day,
- 4:06Speaker 2: I did an open mic there before, and it's a
- 4:09Speaker 2: totally different room. It's a real club now, so it's cool.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It turned out so great. And the lighting system in there,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and I'll tell you, we had some wonky stuff going
- 4:17Speaker 1: on with the lighting last week, but we got it
- 4:19Speaker 1: all squared away. And I've got a nice setup to
- 4:23Speaker 1: record audio and video. And my future vision is someday
- 4:27Speaker 1: for people to be here to record comedy specials in
- 4:30Speaker 1: that room. And again, we're getting it dialed in and
- 4:33Speaker 1: getting it ready to go. Folks, come out, be a
- 4:34Speaker 1: part of it. Come out and check it out. Learn
- 4:36Speaker 1: more at SiouxFallsComedyClub.com. Come out and see The Room on Friday.
- 4:40Speaker 1: If you'd like to register to win free tickets, I
- 4:42Speaker 1: would love to give you some free tickets. Go to SiouxFallsComedy.com.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You'll see a button right on there to register to win. Adam,
- 4:49Speaker 1: thank you very much for being a part of this.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And like I said, as I was kind of adding
- 4:53Speaker 1: this and I'm like, I want to reach out to
- 4:54Speaker 1: people I know. And Adam and Jake and Reed are
- 4:58Speaker 1: three comics that I absolutely find hilarious. And I haven't
- 5:01Speaker 1: seen you guys in a long time. So I am
- 5:03Speaker 1: super excited for this week. I think it's going to
- 5:05Speaker 1: be awesome.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Me too, John. I'm like over the moon, man. When
- 5:09Speaker 2: you reached out, it made my day. I didn't even
- 5:12Speaker 2: hesitate to say yeah, and then I went. Oh, man.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Better start writing some jokes.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Well, and the cool thing is you and I don't
- 5:21Speaker 1: work too far from each other. You're like right up.
- 5:23Speaker 1: What's the name of the place you work? Like a
- 5:24Speaker 1: block and a half away from me here.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 2: We're neighbors. I work for the Gordon Flesh Company. I
- 5:30Speaker 2: actually sell copiers and phone systems for them.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So if somebody needs a copier or a phone system,
- 5:36Speaker 1: they can reach out and talk to you or just
- 5:38Speaker 1: come and see you at a comedy show and say, hey,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I need your card. I got to buy some stuff.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. I will tell jokes for free to all
- 5:44Speaker 2: of my customers. There you go.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I love it. Well, I am excited to see you
- 5:47Speaker 1: on Thursday and Friday. Thank you again for taking the
- 5:50Speaker 1: time to chat, Adam.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Awesome. Thanks, John.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Absolutely. Again, Adam Wilke, a very, very funny guy, and
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm so excited to see him back on stage this
- 5:56Speaker 1: Thursday at Billy Frog's, this Friday at the Grain Bin
- 5:59Speaker 1: on North Cliff Avenue. Get all of the details at SiouxFallsComedy.com.
- 6:03Speaker 1: We've got a calendar there and a place to register
- 6:05Speaker 1: to win free tickets. Again, SiouxFallsComedy.com. Something you should know.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Bye. Bye.
