• 0:53
Speaker 1: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, missus Carley with Let's Talk and
• 0:58
  Speaker 1: Today's show.
• 1:00
Speaker 2: Do not blame it on me, all.
• 1:02
Speaker 4: Right, you don't have to.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: Actually, I actually have well as my as my co host.
• 1:10
Speaker 2: Just dogs me. Lisa's in the building.
• 1:13
Speaker 1: Hello, My uh my sister, we call her Sissy. Her
• 1:19
Speaker 1: name is Carlotte, but we call her Sissy is here
• 1:23
Speaker 1: and Victoria Barksdale. She is also here and they are
• 1:28
Speaker 1: part of the Charleston Distance Run. Now, my distance is
• 1:35
Speaker 1: no more than three miles, so.
• 1:39
Speaker 2: With a lot of clothing.
• 1:40
Speaker 1: Okay, we had that discussion off air, which your estate
• 1:43
  Speaker 1: off air, but.
• 1:46
Speaker 2: That that had so so one of.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: The things that has always intrigued me about the Charleston
• 1:57
Speaker 1: Distance Run was it was the reality of how they
• 2:01
Speaker 1: how they kind of market it, and how they get
• 2:04
Speaker 1: so many people in it. So since like, I know,
• 2:11
Speaker 1: so you've you've done it all but a couple of years.
• 2:15
Speaker 5: Or something, you know, I've done it six years, six years,
• 2:18
Speaker 5: six years way back when I was in high school.
• 2:21
Speaker 5: And then the last year I've done the first leg
• 2:25
Speaker 5: of a relay because they offer a relay and again
• 2:28
Speaker 5: this year Victoria, I and I and one other person
• 2:31
Speaker 5: will be doing the fifteen out relay. So that's somebody
• 2:35
Speaker 5: runs three males, somebody runs five, and somebody runs seven.
• 2:39
Speaker 2: Oh and somebody runs okay, who's running seven.
• 2:45
Speaker 6: Our friend Beth is going to do the seven which
• 2:47
Speaker 6: is the last leg. It's all flat on the boulevard,
• 2:51
Speaker 6: but it's on the boulevard and by then it is hot.
• 2:53
Speaker 4: It is hot, hot, hot.
• 2:55
Speaker 5: Can imagine and Victoria will be going up what we
• 2:58
Speaker 5: refer to bunnies from the hell, which is one nineteen.
• 3:03
  Speaker 4: Wow.
• 3:04
  Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I don't know.
• 3:11
  Speaker 2: I don't know how.
• 3:12
Speaker 1: To even This is so far out of my mindset
• 3:16
Speaker 1: of running. You know, I ran this morning, killed me.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: I ran yesterday. I actually ran my three miles. I
• 3:23
Speaker 1: got all of it, and you know, NonStop. I couldn't
• 3:26
Speaker 1: even run fifteen yards in a road today. I can't
• 3:31
Speaker 1: even imagine trying to run fifteen mounds, seven miles.
• 3:38
  Speaker 2: None of that.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: I mean, so, what are you telling yourself? Because I
• 3:41
Speaker 1: know I know when I'm talking, I'm talking to myself.
• 3:44
Speaker 1: It's all negative. It's like, we can just stop. We
• 3:47
  Speaker 1: don't need this. I don't I'm not interested in this.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: Who's causing me to do this?
• 3:53
Speaker 6: I literally asked myself yesterday, are you crazy? Every time
• 4:00
Speaker 6: the alarm went off at five point fifteen, I got
• 4:04
Speaker 6: out of bed about five point thirty, got dressed, drove
• 4:08
Speaker 6: from Nitro to u See, met up with girl gang.
• 4:12
Speaker 6: It was about twelve of us and we ran ten
• 4:16
Speaker 6: or eleven miles in Kanas City yesterday.
• 4:20
  Speaker 4: Oh wow.
• 4:21
Speaker 1: Just and you say it like like it's just a
• 4:25
Speaker 1: really super casual thing.
• 4:28
Speaker 6: You know, we run a lot and we're on Garmin.
• 4:32
Speaker 6: We keep each other accountable so we can see when
• 4:35
Speaker 6: everybody's running and working out. And so I see that
• 4:38
Speaker 6: Sissy got up and ran five miles and I'm like, okay,
• 4:41
Speaker 6: I gotta get out here. You know. It's that kind
• 4:44
Speaker 6: of thing. So it's you know, I'm not one of
• 4:47
Speaker 6: those people that I am a natural runner. I hate
• 4:50
Speaker 6: it every time, but it always feels good when it's over.
• 4:54
Speaker 7: Oh sure, yeah, you're always glad you did it. You're
• 4:56
Speaker 7: always you're sad if you don't do it, but you're
• 4:58
Speaker 7: glad that when you complete some thing like that, right, exactly.
• 5:01
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 5:01
  Speaker 4: So I.
• 5:04
Speaker 2: Don't even know if I even need to be part
• 5:06
  Speaker 2: of this show.
• 5:07
Speaker 7: Right, you can just go out the parking lot and
• 5:09
Speaker 7: wait for the second half or whatever. But so Victoria
• 5:13
Speaker 7: and and Sissy, thank you so much for being on
• 5:15
Speaker 7: in the flyer you gave us. That's really nice. It's
• 5:18
Speaker 7: got a lot of good information. Is there somewhere on
• 5:20
  Speaker 7: social media they.
• 5:21
Speaker 4: Could they could get they could access this. Is there
• 5:24
  Speaker 4: a certain paper.
• 5:26
Speaker 6: You can go to Charleston Distance Run dot com. Okay,
• 5:29
Speaker 6: and everything is there. There's a link to sign up
• 5:32
Speaker 6: you can find out about the race history. You can
• 5:34
Speaker 6: look at past races and see the times and everything.
• 5:38
Speaker 4: So I'm guilty of finding that site today.
• 5:40
Speaker 7: So I have some I've gotten some history about the
• 5:46
  Speaker 7: I'm a former teacher, so I like my research. I
• 5:50
Speaker 7: like to be, you know, well prepared. But so, I,
• 5:53
Speaker 7: like I said, I did do some research, and I
• 5:55
Speaker 7: found that the first race, of course, this is the
• 5:57
Speaker 7: fifty second running of it, correct, And the first rate
• 6:00
Speaker 7: took place in nineteen seventy three and was organized by
• 6:03
Speaker 7: a man named Don Cohen.
• 6:04
Speaker 4: Yes, oh yeah, I got my fight story.
• 6:07
  Speaker 2: I like it.
• 6:08
  Speaker 6: I love it.
• 6:09
Speaker 7: So when he designed this race, and always correct me
• 6:12
Speaker 7: if I'm wrong, he wanted to include as many Charleston
• 6:15
Speaker 7: neighborhoods as possible, and he involved you know, of course
• 6:18
Speaker 7: he started at the state Capitol, I believe, and then
• 6:20
Speaker 7: at that time it was you know, he wanted the
• 6:22
Speaker 7: east end, the west side, the South Hills area. Does
• 6:26
Speaker 7: today's course still follow that original router is a little
• 6:29
  Speaker 7: little varied.
• 6:31
Speaker 5: I think it varies because at I rented him in
• 6:35
  Speaker 5: nineteen seventy six.
• 6:37
  Speaker 4: Oh wow.
• 6:40
Speaker 5: At one time it was part of the regodds. Yes,
• 6:43
Speaker 5: and it actually started over on at the pacifics Okay,
• 6:50
Speaker 5: So it has changed a little bit because I start,
• 6:53
Speaker 5: you know, at the Capitol, you know, across South Sudbury.
• 6:58
Speaker 5: So it's changed a bit, not a lot.
• 7:00
Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, that's awesome.
• 7:03
Speaker 2: When you say it's changed.
• 7:07
Speaker 1: Are are you talking just specifically how and where you
• 7:13
Speaker 1: go or have you seen this huge growth in people
• 7:18
Speaker 1: running and the type of people who are running.
• 7:23
Speaker 6: So the race has changed. Like Sissy said, it used
• 7:26
Speaker 6: to start at the Civic Center. Now it starts at
• 7:28
Speaker 6: the Capitol. We do a loop actually, so you're on
• 7:32
Speaker 6: canobul of Art a couple of times and at the
• 7:34
Speaker 6: Capitol a couple of times. The race in I think
• 7:39
Speaker 6: when it first started the first year was only a
• 7:40
Speaker 6: couple of hundred people. But racing road racing itself was
• 7:45
Speaker 6: exploding that time in the early seventies, and so the
• 7:48
Speaker 6: second year there were like thirteen hundred people running. Wow,
• 7:52
Speaker 6: And I mean elite runners. We had you know, like
• 7:54
Speaker 6: Kenyons come and you know, just you know Rogers, Yeah,
• 7:58
Speaker 6: a lot of you know, really well known runners. The
• 8:02
Speaker 6: marshals at the first one included Jesse Owens oh wow, okay,
• 8:08
Speaker 6: and Prefontaine oh wow. So it was that caliber of people.
• 8:13
Speaker 6: They didn't run, but they were the marshals and so
• 8:15
Speaker 6: that was just awesome. So there was a lot of
• 8:17
Speaker 6: interest in it at that time. So now we have
• 8:20
Speaker 6: we're almost at about six hundred people this year registered,
• 8:24
Speaker 6: but runners are notoriously last minute for signing up, and
• 8:30
Speaker 6: so we're really looking for to have a lot of
• 8:32
Speaker 6: folks come and run this year. So we have over
• 8:37
Speaker 6: three hundred signed up for the fifteen mile and I
• 8:41
Speaker 6: believe almost two hundred for the five k.
• 8:44
Speaker 1: So you all are not just quote runners, you all
• 8:48
Speaker 1: are actually invested in its future and success.
• 8:52
Speaker 4: Board members as board members, all.
• 8:54
Speaker 1: Right, yeah, we are how many how many is actually
• 8:57
Speaker 1: how many people are actually on the board do you know?
• 9:00
Speaker 6: We have about there's probably twenty on the board and
• 9:04
Speaker 6: probably a core group of twelve or so that work
• 9:09
Speaker 6: on it like year round. So we meet every month
• 9:13
Speaker 6: to plan this thing because it is quite an undertaking.
• 9:17
Speaker 2: So you're saying that you meet every month after you've
• 9:20
  Speaker 2: run it.
• 9:21
Speaker 6: To plan for them, to plan for it. Absolutely, that's
• 9:25
  Speaker 6: a lot.
• 9:25
  Speaker 4: That's a lot of work.
• 9:27
  Speaker 2: That's a huge commitment.
• 9:29
Speaker 6: It is, and you know, I think we enjoy running
• 9:32
Speaker 6: like I do hate it every time, but again, I
• 9:35
Speaker 6: like it when I'm done.
• 9:36
  Speaker 2: And I mean.
• 9:36
Speaker 6: Charleston, for its size, has a really sizeable running community.
• 9:42
Speaker 6: I mean, you'd really be surprised. We run with Girl Gang,
• 9:46
Speaker 6: which is a local running group. There's tom and Track Club.
• 9:50
Speaker 6: I mean, there's so many running clubs and just people
• 9:52
Speaker 6: out running. We were running in Kanos City yesterday. We
• 9:55
Speaker 6: passed so many people, you know, just groups of people,
• 9:58
Speaker 6: individuals running and I'm sure a lot of them are
• 10:00
Speaker 6: training for the distance sun. So packet pickup is great,
• 10:04
Speaker 6: you know, because you see all these people that Hey,
• 10:06
Speaker 6: I see you out running in Troe, you running in
• 10:09
Speaker 6: Saint Albans or whatever it is, And it's just great
• 10:13
Speaker 6: to be able to connect with people and and see
• 10:15
Speaker 6: people that are enjoying the same things that you do.
• 10:18
Speaker 1: Well, if you all were to pass me when I
• 10:21
Speaker 1: when I'm running in the morning, you would not be
• 10:24
Speaker 1: able to convince me because all you're asking me to
• 10:28
Speaker 1: do is run more. Oh my gosh, I don't think I.
• 10:33
Speaker 2: Can have the more.
• 10:35
Speaker 7: I want to see his name. I want to see
• 10:36
Speaker 7: him in that that distance run come Labor Day. I
• 10:40
Speaker 7: want to see it happen. But yeah, we do too,
• 10:43
Speaker 7: do you start training right now to see you will
• 10:46
  Speaker 7: help you.
• 10:46
Speaker 1: But so I could go in and run my three miles, right,
• 10:53
Speaker 1: so there's a five k part of that. See what
• 10:57
Speaker 1: what would bother me is as because I'm going I know,
• 11:00
Speaker 1: for in fact, I'm gonna be in front of her. Okay,
• 11:03
Speaker 1: I don't know that I'm gonna be in front of her.
• 11:05
Speaker 1: If nothing else, I'm gonna be in front of her.
• 11:07
Speaker 1: Even if I have to, I will bet on sis.
• 11:13
  Speaker 4: Please.
• 11:14
  Speaker 2: Well, here's what I'll know. Here's what I know. By
• 11:16
Speaker 2: the time we hit three miles, I'm gone.
• 11:19
Speaker 1: So she can go on as far as she wants
• 11:22
Speaker 1: to go that far.
• 11:24
  Speaker 4: Oh gosh.
• 11:25
Speaker 7: So so Carl kind of touched on what I was
• 11:27
Speaker 7: going to talk to you, to you ladies about. But
• 11:28
Speaker 7: you know this event is it's kind of nicknamed America's
• 11:32
Speaker 7: fifteen Mile Challenge, right, that's what I read. So, but
• 11:35
Speaker 7: it's evolved, you said, it's now you know there's two
• 11:39
Speaker 7: additional events besides the fifteen mile challenge. That's that's a
• 11:42
Speaker 7: solo type of deal. So you've added the events that
• 11:45
Speaker 7: there's the three person relay I think you guys referred
• 11:48
Speaker 7: to that a minute ago, and the five K, walk
• 11:50
Speaker 7: and run. So tell us about those events. Do those
• 11:53
Speaker 7: events take place before or after the main race? How
• 11:56
Speaker 7: does how do those work?
• 11:57
Speaker 5: Actually everybody starts at the same.
• 12:00
Speaker 7: You're kidding, Okay, I thought they were different, separate events.
• 12:04
Speaker 5: We all now they divide the stroke. Okay, it's like, yeah,
• 12:08
Speaker 5: kind of like five k over here, yeah, fifteen over
• 12:11
Speaker 5: here because there is a you know, turn turn off.
• 12:15
Speaker 4: Sure, so yeah, it all starts. That's exciting.
• 12:18
Speaker 5: It is very exciting.
• 12:20
Speaker 4: S See, you could, you could do it.
• 12:23
Speaker 2: It didn't do anything for me. I didn't all of
• 12:26
Speaker 2: a sudden like the.
• 12:27
  Speaker 4: Yeah, my goodness.
• 12:30
Speaker 2: If you were doing that for me, you lost.
• 12:35
Speaker 6: A funny story last year, as Sissy mentioned, the five
• 12:41
Speaker 6: k lines up on one side of the boulevard, fifteen
• 12:43
Speaker 6: milers on the other. Well, there was a young woman
• 12:47
Speaker 6: who got in the wrong lane. She ended up running.
• 12:51
Speaker 6: She meant to be in the five k, she ended
• 12:54
Speaker 6: up doing the fifteen mile. What And I was thinking
• 12:58
Speaker 6: there had to be some.
• 12:58
Speaker 2: Point I would have around, and he said, look.
• 13:02
Speaker 4: I got the ball.
• 13:03
Speaker 1: I'm sorry, or I'm just gonna stop. I made a mistake.
• 13:11
Speaker 7: That's the longest for the longest five miles I've ever
• 13:14
Speaker 7: ran in my year like this will never end.
• 13:16
Speaker 2: Yeah that, Yeah, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not making
• 13:18
  Speaker 2: that mistake.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: And if I do make it, like I said, my
• 13:21
Speaker 1: mind will, my mind and my body will tell me
• 13:24
Speaker 1: I should have been in that other lane.
• 13:27
Speaker 4: I think so for sure.
• 13:28
Speaker 2: And I'm walking out of that line.
• 13:30
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 13:31
Speaker 1: So since you have you you have had a background
• 13:35
Speaker 1: in in running track, so I know kind of where
• 13:39
  Speaker 1: that comes from.
• 13:42
Speaker 2: You and and and they.
• 13:44
Speaker 1: On the we're on the four by four relay or
• 13:47
Speaker 1: four by one relay back in the day, I think
• 13:51
Speaker 1: you all won the state.
• 13:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, when the stated that he did, don't be sure.
• 14:01
  Speaker 2: So did you?
• 14:04
Speaker 1: Could you ever imagine yourself going from being quote a
• 14:07
Speaker 1: sprinter to actually being someone who's just going to go
• 14:11
Speaker 1: out and just run, like I'm just running.
• 14:13
Speaker 2: What made you start running?
• 14:16
Speaker 5: Well, what made me start is back when I was
• 14:19
Speaker 5: living in Maryland, I got into a group of women
• 14:22
Speaker 5: and they were going to walk part of what was
• 14:25
Speaker 5: considered the underground railroad. So no problem, we can walk.
• 14:30
Speaker 5: But then I met a girl who was a runner
• 14:32
Speaker 5: and she wanted somebody to run with. So I started
• 14:34
Speaker 5: running with her and then I just continued to run,
• 14:37
Speaker 5: and then after a while becomes a habit.
• 14:41
Speaker 4: Yeah. So for me, running is not is a habit.
• 14:44
Speaker 4: It's like people who wake.
• 14:46
Speaker 5: Up in the morning, you brush your teeth, wash your face.
• 14:49
Speaker 5: Running is for me nothing.
• 14:51
Speaker 4: It's in your routine, right, routine. Yeah, and would have to.
• 14:55
Speaker 1: Be So Victoria, what leave me alone with?
• 15:01
Speaker 2: So like, what where did you? What prompted you to
• 15:04
  Speaker 2: get into this?
• 15:05
Speaker 6: You know, my brother teases me all the time. He says,
• 15:07
Speaker 6: you know, I tried to get you to run, you know,
• 15:09
Speaker 6: when we were living at home growing up, and you
• 15:11
Speaker 6: never would. He's like, now, you know, I can't get
• 15:14
Speaker 6: you to not run. And I think when I was
• 15:16
Speaker 6: in college, I my dorm was near the track. I
• 15:19
Speaker 6: went to the University of Tennessee, and so the track
• 15:22
Speaker 6: was like across the street and we had this thing
• 15:24
Speaker 6: called the Bubble where they had all this workout equipment.
• 15:27
Speaker 6: And so I just started, you know, getting into being
• 15:31
Speaker 6: in shape and you know, and kind of taking better
• 15:34
Speaker 6: care of myself and things like that. And then I
• 15:37
Speaker 6: started running like five k's and ten k's and things
• 15:41
Speaker 6: like that. And I didn't run my first half marathon
• 15:44
Speaker 6: until like I think it was two thousand and four
• 15:45
Speaker 6: or something like that, but like Sissy said, you know
• 15:49
  Speaker 6: it's something that I could do. I mean, I don't
• 15:51
Speaker 6: I'm not fast. I'm not trying to get faster. I
• 15:54
Speaker 6: walk a lot if I want to, sure, but it's
• 15:57
Speaker 6: something that I enjoy, and so I just kind of
• 16:00
Speaker 6: kept at it after that.
• 16:02
Speaker 1: See if I were if I were to switched out
• 16:05
Speaker 1: and started walking, I don't even want to walk fifteen mounds.
• 16:11
Speaker 1: There's nothing like And for folks who are interested in
• 16:16
Speaker 1: maybe participating in running starting running, don't listen to me.
• 16:20
Speaker 1: Yes please, I am not your example. I promise you, Like,
• 16:28
  Speaker 1: I just don't see, like I don't see being able
• 16:35
Speaker 1: to get my mind wrapped around fifteen mounds now in walking,
• 16:42
Speaker 1: I can see me seriously talking myself out of out
• 16:46
Speaker 1: of walking, probably within a mile and a half.
• 16:49
Speaker 2: Like what am I doing?
• 16:50
Speaker 1: Like this is I better have a huge long play
• 16:55
  Speaker 1: this story.
• 16:56
Speaker 4: Yes you're a former NFL player.
• 17:00
Speaker 1: That does not necessarily equate to loving working out. I
• 17:05
Speaker 1: worked out, and anybody who is listening who knows my
• 17:07
Speaker 1: workout regiment, it was. It was huge, Like it was hard.
• 17:12
Speaker 1: It was not a joke, but there was there was
• 17:16
Speaker 1: there was something on the end of it though, like
• 17:19
Speaker 1: I needed to get the camp in shape.
• 17:20
Speaker 2: I needed to be able to play and not.
• 17:22
Speaker 4: Have to worry about gettator.
• 17:24
Speaker 1: Yes, and I have no motivation right now for fifteen
• 17:28
Speaker 1: fifteen Miles does not say, well, Carl, you know what,
• 17:31
  Speaker 1: that's a good job.
• 17:32
Speaker 2: That ain't enough for me. That that just is not
• 17:36
  Speaker 2: enough for me.
• 17:37
Speaker 4: I dangle and carrot in front of it. Something shirt
• 17:44
  Speaker 4: I got.
• 17:44
Speaker 2: I got fifteen drawers full of T shirt.
• 17:47
Speaker 4: Just gonna ask him about that.
• 17:49
  Speaker 2: And a metal.
• 17:50
Speaker 1: I'm probably gonna lie to you and tell you I
• 17:52
Speaker 1: did it, just as if I.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: Can get the metal, I ain't gonna run it.
• 17:56
Speaker 1: There's just no way what I do so shameful tell
• 18:01
Speaker 1: because what I like though, what this is, this is
• 18:03
Speaker 1: what I like. This is like something that I totally
• 18:06
Speaker 1: am so far away from and I can't grasp. And
• 18:10
Speaker 1: then most things, and I think most people who are
• 18:12
Speaker 1: in sports, they think that they can grasp everything. Like
• 18:15
Speaker 1: you know, if you play football, you play basketball, you
• 18:18
  Speaker 1: know everything.
• 18:19
Speaker 2: Running is a whole another thing.
• 18:22
Speaker 1: I know, you're running basketball, you're running football, you're running baseball.
• 18:26
Speaker 4: Running as a sport, as a sport.
• 18:30
Speaker 2: Itself, is a is a is a mind breaker.
• 18:34
Speaker 1: Sure because every time I get out there, three miles
• 18:37
  Speaker 1: can break me.
• 18:38
  Speaker 2: I can't even I can't.
• 18:40
Speaker 1: Yes, and I want to continue to make sure that
• 18:43
  Speaker 1: everybody's clear on.
• 18:44
Speaker 2: That fifteen miles no shot. I'm not even going to
• 18:48
Speaker 2: put it in as a goal.
• 18:50
Speaker 1: There's no I can't wake up in the morning and
• 18:52
Speaker 1: say I'm going fifteen miles today.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: I'm rolling right back over and going to bed. I'm
• 18:58
  Speaker 2: going to sleep.
• 19:00
  Speaker 8: Oh.
• 19:01
Speaker 6: People finish it in like an hour and fifteen twenty minutes.
• 19:06
  Speaker 2: See, that's unbelievable.
• 19:08
Speaker 7: Are these are those your runners that are professional runners, right,
• 19:11
Speaker 7: They're the ones that that from marathon to marathon.
• 19:14
Speaker 6: Yeah, and they get at the front of the line.
• 19:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know they're a chance.
• 19:17
Speaker 6: You can see them, and I mean they run from
• 19:19
Speaker 6: that first step and they are doing like, you know,
• 19:22
Speaker 6: five and a half six minute See.
• 19:25
  Speaker 1: See, I'm seeing your You're like when you're you're defining
• 19:29
Speaker 1: you're when you're discussing that, Like I can see it
• 19:31
Speaker 1: in your face, like you're like, Wow, I mean they're
• 19:33
Speaker 1: doing something special. I'm looking at y'all and I'm thinking, Wow,
• 19:36
Speaker 1: they're doing something special. I mean, because I just it
• 19:43
Speaker 1: just is a different thing. Like I'm like, I'm impressed.
• 19:47
Speaker 1: To me, I'm impressed, and I hate to give this.
• 19:50
Speaker 1: I hate to give her any kind of credit like
• 19:52
Speaker 1: I have, but I'm impressed by the fact that she
• 19:55
Speaker 1: has done this for so long because I know what
• 19:59
Speaker 1: running like I've had, I've had to run it for sports,
• 20:04
Speaker 1: and never ever fact that she would be doing this
• 20:11
Speaker 1: like every day, all day for fifteen miles, Like who
• 20:14
Speaker 1: runs fifteen miles for what?
• 20:16
  Speaker 2: Not?
• 20:17
  Speaker 4: You not me?
• 20:21
Speaker 1: So I'm I'm I'm highly impressed by that reality. And
• 20:26
Speaker 1: then when you watch like track and you watch like
• 20:29
Speaker 1: like even like the half moun they're running that thing.
• 20:32
  Speaker 2: Like it's a sprint, Like it's like it's nothing.
• 20:35
Speaker 1: You know, they finished, they bend over a little bit,
• 20:37
Speaker 1: they walk and they're fine.
• 20:40
  Speaker 2: I'm dying.
• 20:41
Speaker 7: That's like say something called training in run in running, how.
• 20:45
Speaker 2: Do they train for that kind of stuff?
• 20:47
Speaker 4: It's endurance, right, I mean, right, ladies?
• 20:50
Speaker 5: Or the longer lane yea, for the longer lives, say
• 20:53
Speaker 5: like the half marathons, the marathons.
• 20:56
Speaker 2: How do you train for that?
• 20:58
Speaker 5: Well, I've done at this point, I've done fourteen halfs
• 21:03
Speaker 5: and two marathons, and so see, so it is it
• 21:10
Speaker 5: is a mindset. What we do is at that point,
• 21:14
Speaker 5: a lot of times you will have somebody else that's
• 21:17
Speaker 5: training for a marathon or training for something, and like
• 21:20
Speaker 5: uh Victoria said earlier, were part of girl gang and
• 21:24
Speaker 5: you can always find somebody that will come along for
• 21:28
Speaker 5: the run, even if they're not training for a marathon
• 21:31
  Speaker 5: or a half.
• 21:31
Speaker 4: They hold you accountable.
• 21:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we hold each other accountab Where were you?
• 21:39
Speaker 9: Which I beg you'll go, Oh.
• 21:50
Speaker 7: My goodness, I'm going to ask a legitimate question to
• 21:54
Speaker 7: these ladies. Take the focus off of your non running
• 21:57
Speaker 7: abilities for a second. So Victoria, I noticed your shirt
• 22:00
Speaker 7: and it's it's so pretty. I love that collar on
• 22:03
Speaker 7: you and it's the Charleston Distance Run from last.
• 22:05
Speaker 4: Year twenty twenty four.
• 22:07
Speaker 7: Do you guys have merch available? Do you have to
• 22:09
Speaker 7: actually be a part of one of the events to
• 22:11
Speaker 7: purchase merchandise or can you go to the website and
• 22:14
  Speaker 7: do it?
• 22:15
  Speaker 2: Well?
• 22:15
Speaker 6: You can come to our packet pick up okay, and
• 22:17
Speaker 6: that will be at hat Ad Riverfront Park on Friday,
• 22:20
Speaker 6: August twenty ninth this year from three to eight and
• 22:24
Speaker 6: we will have souvenir shirts. We have some hats there.
• 22:28
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I see your hat now, I like that hat.
• 22:30
Speaker 2: I like that hat. Yeah, be mine.
• 22:32
Speaker 1: Sometimes it does cost to come on the show.
• 22:37
Speaker 5: Don't let them to Charleston dist I like it a
• 22:43
  Speaker 5: little sass.
• 22:44
Speaker 2: They need to get me a hat.
• 22:47
Speaker 6: Yeah, sure, I'm gonna come down to hat Ad. You
• 22:50
Speaker 6: can look at our merchandise that we have there, and
• 22:53
Speaker 6: you know, hopefully we'll have more in the future that
• 22:55
Speaker 6: people can just buy. But usually historically it has been
• 22:58
Speaker 6: like for our runners they come into town, sure they
• 23:01
Speaker 6: can look at things, but we do have extras and
• 23:04
Speaker 6: stuff from previous years as well.
• 23:06
  Speaker 4: That's nice.
• 23:07
Speaker 1: What would be what what would be the biggest challenge
• 23:12
Speaker 1: for either one of you or for both of you
• 23:16
Speaker 1: to try to run? Now, I mean because if you
• 23:18
Speaker 1: run marathons, I meant, I mean that's as far as
• 23:22
Speaker 1: typically as far as they run it, right, Is there
• 23:26
Speaker 1: something out there that intrigues you to say, like, you
• 23:29
Speaker 1: know what I would love to do that? Is there
• 23:32
Speaker 1: something that out there there I'll go first.
• 23:36
Speaker 2: Both faces was like, oh, yeah, likes.
• 23:41
Speaker 6: Well, I've never done a marathon, okay, and honestly I
• 23:45
Speaker 6: don't have the desire to do it, but I'm happy
• 23:49
Speaker 6: with the half there. I really am so I've done
• 23:51
Speaker 6: a couple of those, and I think that's probably my
• 23:54
Speaker 6: length to do. So a challenge for me might be
• 23:58
Speaker 6: like doing one, you know, in every state or on
• 24:02
Speaker 6: every continent or something like.
• 24:03
Speaker 2: That, just just just as a way of traveling.
• 24:07
Speaker 6: As a way of traveling. Yeah, I went to Rio
• 24:11
Speaker 6: last year and when I was there, we were at
• 24:14
Speaker 6: the Christ the Redeemer statue and there was a marathon
• 24:18
Speaker 6: and I was like, oh my god, I wish I
• 24:22
Speaker 6: checked one off my list. So that kind of you know,
• 24:26
  Speaker 6: running tourism.
• 24:28
  Speaker 2: That's nice.
• 24:30
Speaker 1: When they have these marathons, they also include shorter races
• 24:36
Speaker 1: in them, right usually Okay, yeah, I didn't know that.
• 24:39
Speaker 1: I didn't really know that as a fact. So when
• 24:42
Speaker 1: I hear a marathon, I just flipped the page or
• 24:45
Speaker 1: turned the station and I'm out.
• 24:48
Speaker 6: And they know not everyone wants to run a marathon,
• 24:51
  Speaker 6: or you.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: Know, have something for everybody.
• 24:54
Speaker 6: So there's everybody, ok, and K a half marathon as
• 24:58
Speaker 6: part of a race as well.
• 24:59
  Speaker 2: Sissy.
• 25:01
Speaker 5: Victoria knows I have ran. They have what they call majors,
• 25:06
Speaker 5: so the major marathons, which is Boston and New York
• 25:10
Speaker 5: and London and all the majors. So I have what
• 25:13
Speaker 5: they call it's called an Abbot star. So I have
• 25:16
Speaker 5: my one for Chicago because it's a major. So my
• 25:20
Speaker 5: goal is to run the other five. But age also
• 25:26
Speaker 5: is a factor because as you age it gets a
• 25:29
Speaker 5: little harder to train at that you know, twenty six
• 25:33
  Speaker 5: point two miles.
• 25:34
Speaker 1: But that's my goal.
• 25:36
  Speaker 5: We'll see.
• 25:37
Speaker 4: That's amazing. You didn't tell me about this.
• 25:42
Speaker 2: Because it doesn't register stopping.
• 25:44
Speaker 6: I'm sorry, sissy, Sorry, we love it.
• 25:54
Speaker 2: Come on, Carl, there's no thought in my mind.
• 25:58
Speaker 1: I'm tired because they're on show, they're talking about on
• 26:02
  Speaker 1: the show.
• 26:03
Speaker 4: I have a legitimate question, Carl, be quiet, all right.
• 26:06
Speaker 7: So ladies, you know the history of the race. It
• 26:09
Speaker 7: originally took place with the storm Will Regatta in conjunction
• 26:12
Speaker 7: with that, and that always happened on Labor Day weekend,
• 26:15
Speaker 7: so the race continues to be on Labor Day weekend.
• 26:18
Speaker 7: Is there any talk or any chance of kind of
• 26:21
Speaker 7: reuniting it with the new Regotti since it's come back
• 26:24
Speaker 7: and having it like over the fourth of July, have
• 26:27
Speaker 7: you has the committee ever considered that or is it
• 26:31
  Speaker 7: ask about that?
• 26:31
Speaker 6: Okay, okay, and we haven't discussed it. I don't want
• 26:38
Speaker 6: to say, seriously, we haven't discussed it a lot, but
• 26:40
Speaker 6: it does come up from time to time.
• 26:42
Speaker 7: It's probably nice to have the spotlight just on you
• 26:44
Speaker 7: guys on that weekend, right, rather than kind of being
• 26:46
Speaker 7: in the shadow of a big city festival or whatever.
• 26:50
Speaker 6: I'd like for us to try it, okay, see, yeah,
• 26:53
Speaker 6: you know, because we'd love to have like more people participate,
• 26:57
Speaker 6: and the regatta draws you know, a lot of people,
• 27:00
Speaker 6: and so I hope that one year we can at least.
• 27:05
Speaker 4: I'm sure the mayor would love that. I'm sure she would.
• 27:08
Speaker 1: What would be the reason why they wouldn't want to
• 27:11
  Speaker 1: combine that?
• 27:12
Speaker 5: Well, didn't it at one time?
• 27:14
Speaker 4: I'm at one time?
• 27:16
Speaker 6: I think maybe they stopped having the regatta.
• 27:18
Speaker 5: Yes, that's what happened, and so they continued to have
• 27:22
  Speaker 5: the Charleston Distance.
• 27:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, that never quit. That never stopped.
• 27:26
Speaker 5: They never stopped. So the regatta at one time had stopped.
• 27:30
Speaker 2: What would it what would what do you all think
• 27:31
Speaker 2: it would take to make that I'll just say combining
• 27:38
  Speaker 2: the two.
• 27:40
  Speaker 5: I don't think it's a no necessarily a no. It
• 27:44
Speaker 5: would probably be more of getting together with the city
• 27:48
Speaker 5: and just you know, talking it out and you know, saying, hey,
• 27:52
Speaker 5: you know, here's an idea. Just kind of throw stuff
• 27:55
Speaker 5: out there just to see where it goes.
• 27:56
Speaker 6: And the city is a big supporter. They're one of
• 28:00
Speaker 6: our major supporters every year, and we're so thankful for
• 28:04
Speaker 6: all the services that they provide, the police officers, a
• 28:09
Speaker 6: lot of city services go into making this race run.
• 28:13
Speaker 6: So I think that might be another consideration, Like because
• 28:15
Speaker 6: the regatta is already.
• 28:16
Speaker 4: A lot Yeah, I can understand that could be.
• 28:19
Speaker 6: You know, just that extra manpower and capacity at that
• 28:24
Speaker 6: time could be an issue too. But I think it
• 28:27
Speaker 6: is worth talking about because we do get that question
• 28:29
  Speaker 6: a lot.
• 28:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, that that that really does make sense because you know,
• 28:33
Speaker 1: if they're doing all these different things, you know, now
• 28:35
Speaker 1: they're spreading themselves out, that could be more of a challenge.
• 28:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, because they have the bikes. They do the bikes,
• 28:41
Speaker 5: and you know, they just have a lot going on.
• 28:45
Speaker 2: Are there is a bike ride?
• 28:46
Speaker 5: There is no it was a bike oh yeah, So
• 28:51
Speaker 5: they just they have stuff going on. So, like Victoria
• 28:54
Speaker 5: says it, you know.
• 28:55
Speaker 7: But it could be a draw for you guys, Like
• 28:57
Speaker 7: you said, I mean, since there's going to be more
• 28:59
Speaker 7: out of town people here for the regatta, you know
• 29:02
Speaker 7: you're gonna probably naturally get more runners to come and participate,
• 29:06
Speaker 7: So I don't know, I thought that was something interesting
• 29:09
  Speaker 7: to talk about.
• 29:10
  Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely.
• 29:11
Speaker 1: All right, well let's do let's take a quick break
• 29:14
Speaker 1: and we will be right back.

• 30:54
Speaker 2: With with with miss Odi. And she used me, She
• 30:57
Speaker 2: usedly dogs me and treats me bad.
• 31:00
Speaker 4: See what they see, Hollis is in here.
• 31:05
Speaker 2: So now I'm going to allow these two young ladies.
• 31:10
Speaker 1: To talk about just make sure that everybody has some
• 31:16
Speaker 1: information about the distance run.
• 31:19
Speaker 2: And my fear is is we.
• 31:22
Speaker 1: May be here tomorrow, so hopefully we could get this
• 31:26
Speaker 1: done before the show is over. But we'll see, all right, Sis, whichever.
• 31:32
Speaker 2: One, whichever one of you all want to start Victoria?
• 31:35
Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, So the Charleston Distance Run is taking place

Speaker 6: on Saturday, August thirtieth. This year, we'll have packet pick

• 31:54
Speaker 6: a bib. It has a chip on it that times you.
• 31:57
Speaker 6: So you'll cross mats different locations along the route. So
• 32:02
Speaker 6: that's how we keep track of you on the course
• 32:05
Speaker 6: and also track your time.
• 32:08
  Speaker 2: Oh that's cool.
• 32:08
Speaker 4: Can people register actually that night in Victoria a.
• 32:12
Speaker 6: Packet pick up? Okay, okay, Now it is cheaper. Now
• 32:15
Speaker 6: it's going to go up a couple of times, so
• 32:17
Speaker 6: you'll save about ten dollars if you go to Charleston
• 32:20
Speaker 6: Distance run dot com now and sign up. But yes,
• 32:22
Speaker 6: you can sign up online until noon on Friday, or
• 32:27
Speaker 6: you can come in at packet pick up and sign up.
• 32:29
Speaker 6: Sign up there, okay, yeah, yeah. And so packet pickup
• 32:35
Speaker 6: is also a great time because all of the runners
• 32:37
Speaker 6: come in so you kind of see everyone. We have
• 32:41
Speaker 6: a pasta dinner there.
• 32:42
  Speaker 4: Oh nice.
• 32:43
Speaker 6: So everyone can carve up and you can buy tickets
• 32:46
Speaker 6: for family members if they aren't registered to run. But
• 32:50
Speaker 6: it's a great opportunity to kind of just meet people. Again.
• 32:53
Speaker 6: It's a great running community, people that you see from
• 32:55
Speaker 6: time to time, so it's really great to be able
• 32:58
Speaker 6: to connect with them and see people there packet pick
• 33:00
Speaker 6: up and then the race starts at seven point thirty
• 33:02
Speaker 6: at the Capitol. We have a short ceremony before that,
• 33:06
Speaker 6: and then all the runners start at the same time
• 33:08
Speaker 6: and we meet up at Lately Field.
• 33:12
Speaker 5: Since anything else, so I just really wanted to really
• 33:16
Speaker 5: shout out the community in general, because on top of
• 33:20
Speaker 5: all the board members and things that go into the
• 33:24
Speaker 5: Charleston Distance Run, we have over two hundred and fifty
• 33:27
Speaker 5: people who man the water stations throughout the race. Some
• 33:33
Speaker 5: of them are we have girls basketball teams and guy
• 33:38
Speaker 5: basketball teams, and school teachers and people who are bank
• 33:42
Speaker 5: from the bank and people who are families who've done
• 33:45
Speaker 5: it for many years. We have people who have manned
• 33:48
Speaker 5: the traffic at certain spots and even though we now
• 33:53
Speaker 5: have ambassadors who will be doing that, they come out
• 33:57
Speaker 5: every year and you know, help us with the volunteer
• 34:02
Speaker 5: and so I just really wanted to shout them out
• 34:04
Speaker 5: because without them it would not be possible.
• 34:07
  Speaker 4: Oh it's nice.
• 34:08
Speaker 6: And we also want to shout out our race director,
• 34:12
Speaker 6: Carol Phipps Hade. She is the first ever female race
• 34:17
Speaker 6: director for the Charleston Distance Run. This is her second
• 34:22
Speaker 6: year doing a fabulous job. We've you know, made lots
• 34:26
Speaker 6: of changes to the race, so we're really excited about that.
• 34:31
Speaker 6: I serve as the secretary and then Karen Moore is
• 34:34
Speaker 6: our treasurer. So we have an all female race executive
• 34:39
Speaker 6: committee for Charleston Distance Run as well. So we're really
• 34:42
Speaker 6: really proud of that.
• 34:43
Speaker 4: Girl power. Yeah power, you hear that, right, I hear that.
• 34:48
Speaker 5: But we want to shout out our men on the
• 34:52
Speaker 5: because they are amazing.
• 34:54
Speaker 4: I mean, it takes everybody what it does, because I.
• 34:57
Speaker 5: Mean T shirt designs we just don't, you know, we
• 35:00
Speaker 5: just don't pop up. We have, you know, somebody that
• 35:02
Speaker 5: does the T shirts and somebody who does the medals,
• 35:05
Speaker 5: and you know, we have medical team at the end.
• 35:09
Speaker 5: We just have you know, lots of people in the
• 35:11
Speaker 5: community that make the Charleston Distance Rump possible.
• 35:15
Speaker 6: And we wanted to be a community event. I'm sorry,
• 35:18
Speaker 6: we wanted to be a community event and we want
• 35:19
Speaker 6: people to come out. And you know, it really is
• 35:22
Speaker 6: about health and fitness too. So it's not just about competition,
• 35:26
Speaker 6: it's not just about speed. We really see running and
• 35:31
Speaker 6: being active, walking, jogging, whatever you can do, just taking
• 35:34
Speaker 6: that first step, it's really important to improving the health
• 35:39
Speaker 6: of us as individuals and in our community. So that's
• 35:43
Speaker 6: that's another big goal for the Distance Run is to
• 35:48
Speaker 6: really give people opportunities and help them become you know,
• 35:51
  Speaker 6: healthier as well.
• 35:52
Speaker 1: And I think too, to your point, if someone were
• 35:57
Speaker 1: to come out and try to run or even walk
• 36:02
Speaker 1: the Distance Run, I think they would they would think
• 36:08
Speaker 1: to themselves, Okay, I want to keep I want to
• 36:10
Speaker 1: keep doing this. This was good. I want to keep
• 36:12
Speaker 1: doing this. And then at some point they're going to say,
• 36:16
Speaker 1: all right, you know what, I think I'm going to
• 36:17
Speaker 1: just try to run a little bit and you know,
• 36:20
Speaker 1: just to see it and before you know it, now
• 36:23
Speaker 1: they're running now. Once they're running now, and they're starting now,
• 36:28
Speaker 1: the first thing comes to their mind is like, let's compete.
• 36:31
Speaker 2: You know, I want to compete, you know.
• 36:32
  Speaker 1: I don't want to just I don't want to just
• 36:35
Speaker 1: run and be last.
• 36:37
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 36:37
Speaker 1: I think I've got some people up there. I think
• 36:39
Speaker 1: if I train a little bit harder, I can pass it,
• 36:42
Speaker 1: you know. And and I think that's an important kind
• 36:47
Speaker 1: of process that I.
• 36:49
Speaker 2: Think people can look at.
• 36:51
Speaker 6: Just start exactly know, if you just start, get off
• 36:55
  Speaker 6: the couch.
• 36:56
Speaker 1: Get off the couch, just get out there and just
• 37:00
Speaker 1: watch people run. And because you can admire them running,
• 37:05
Speaker 1: you know, if you're if you're running fifteen miles twenty
• 37:08
Speaker 1: kind of if you're running above three miles, I'm impressed already.
• 37:12
Speaker 1: So you know, I'm looking at you now. I will
• 37:15
Speaker 1: say this, I'm too old to change, so I'm not
• 37:18
  Speaker 1: going to I won't necessarily I'll be impressed, but I
• 37:20
Speaker 1: won't be trying to do it. But if you're young,
• 37:25
Speaker 1: there's really, true, truly an opportunity for you to get
• 37:31
Speaker 1: yourself off that couch, get yourself out of the house.
• 37:34
Speaker 2: This is that kind of an opportunity.
• 37:37
Speaker 1: This is the kind of opportunity that gives you a
• 37:40
Speaker 1: chance to like, Hey, I'm out there with.
• 37:42
Speaker 2: All these people with a common goal. Just finish it.
• 37:46
Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, not just first, not just just I'm just
• 37:50
Speaker 1: gonna finish it. And to me, I think for a
• 37:53
Speaker 1: lot of people who could benefit from it, just start it.
• 37:57
Speaker 2: Just go out and just start it.
• 38:00
Speaker 4: Do it right. Yeah, just do it Mike, you said.
• 38:02
Speaker 6: And a great way to start is Sissy and I
• 38:04
Speaker 6: are also part of a group called park Run and
• 38:08
Speaker 6: it's really an international group and we are so fortunate
• 38:11
Speaker 6: to have one here in Charleston.
• 38:13
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 38:14
Speaker 6: It meets every Saturday at Magic Island. It's a free
• 38:19
Speaker 6: weekly timed five k. So a five k is three
• 38:23
Speaker 6: point one miles. So we start a Magic Island, go
• 38:26
Speaker 6: all the way down to the old drug Eporium. I
• 38:29
Speaker 6: hate saying that, I'm miss drugging. Wow, back to Magic Island.
• 38:34
Speaker 6: We take a loop around and that's three point one miles.
• 38:38
Speaker 6: People are out there, running, walking, jogging, pushing strollers, walking dogs.
• 38:46
Speaker 6: I mean it's about seventy people out there every week.
• 38:49
Speaker 6: So you have your support community, people who are holding
• 38:51
Speaker 6: you accountable, people who are looking for you, to show up.
• 38:55
  Speaker 6: And it's not a race. It's not a race. You
• 38:59
Speaker 6: get time. I don't look to see where Sissy finished.
• 39:02
Speaker 6: I look to see if I got better than I
• 39:04
  Speaker 6: was last week.
• 39:06
  Speaker 4: You're competing against yourself, that's.
• 39:07
Speaker 6: Right, that's it, and you're in community to do that.
• 39:10
Speaker 6: So I want to invite everyone out to park Run
• 39:14
Speaker 6: every Saturday. People are there, so you have a community
• 39:18
Speaker 6: you can meet. Where did you say it starts at
• 39:20
Speaker 6: Magic Magic Eyeland one time at eight o'clock and then
• 39:23
Speaker 6: it switches when the time changes. But for right now
• 39:26
  Speaker 6: eight o'clock.
• 39:27
Speaker 2: Okay, so you asked that question as if you might show.
• 39:30
Speaker 7: Up for you, I'll think about it.
• 39:36
  Speaker 4: I'll cheer them.
• 39:40
Speaker 1: Christe, I was I was going to say, Okay, if
• 39:44
Speaker 1: Lisa shows up, I'll show up.
• 39:46
  Speaker 4: I do walk.
• 39:47
  Speaker 6: Uh.
• 39:48
Speaker 7: The only problem for me, and this is probably ridiculous,
• 39:51
Speaker 7: I'm sure, but I have need issues. So you know,
• 39:53
Speaker 7: for me, jogging and running is it's hard, not the
• 39:56
Speaker 7: endurance part. I think I would be fine with that.
• 39:58
Speaker 2: Carl. I don't know about that high, but I can.
• 40:00
  Speaker 4: I can walk.
• 40:01
Speaker 7: I mean I walk long distances you know in Kanas
• 40:04
Speaker 7: cities where I live. But but kudos to you guys.
• 40:06
Speaker 7: I mean I wish I could do that, you know,
• 40:09
  Speaker 7: I think it's amazing and I'm impressed.
• 40:12
Speaker 4: We have walkers. Well, so.
• 40:16
Speaker 2: That was not here.
• 40:18
Speaker 5: That's not that's not a get out of because actually
• 40:22
Speaker 5: in our group of Girl Gang, we have walkers. We
• 40:26
Speaker 5: have a tail walker. Actually, uh, what.
• 40:30
Speaker 2: Is the tail walker?
• 40:31
Speaker 5: So the tail walker finishes last in the Charleston distance run,
• 40:35
Speaker 5: so nobody else has to oh wow, so.
• 40:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, sign up. But I can be as far as
• 40:48
  Speaker 2: I could.
• 40:48
Speaker 1: Be, That's not how it works as long as I'm lasting.
• 40:54
Speaker 5: No, you have to at least be close to the
• 40:56
Speaker 5: person that's in front of you.
• 40:57
  Speaker 1: See, that's that's what that's called, is a family rule
• 41:00
Speaker 1: right there. You don't have the ability to change that.
• 41:06
Speaker 1: All that matters is I'm last. That's all that matters.
• 41:09
Speaker 4: There is a course limit.
• 41:11
Speaker 1: So okay, so I'm last, and the course is going
• 41:14
Speaker 1: to say, what well are you?
• 41:16
Speaker 2: You st you short?
• 41:18
Speaker 1: You were short of you came in too fast, of
• 41:21
  Speaker 1: your slow?
• 41:25
Speaker 4: What did you just say?
• 41:29
Speaker 5: Anyway, we welcome every pace, every if you walk, we
• 41:35
Speaker 5: have walkers we have through the Girl Gang, we have
• 41:39
Speaker 5: this thing. We don't leave anybody behind. So if you
• 41:41
Speaker 5: come out on a long run, so we usually do
• 41:43
Speaker 5: them on Sundays. You're not getting left behind. Somebody is
• 41:47
Speaker 5: going to be there with you. So you know, people say, well,
• 41:51
  Speaker 5: I don't want to do that. I don't want to
• 41:52
Speaker 5: slow anybody down. That's just what we do. It's a community,
• 41:56
Speaker 5: you know, so you're helping.
• 41:59
Speaker 2: We will get it involved in it. Oh that's cool.
• 42:01
Speaker 4: Because people and the camaraderie of it.
• 42:03
Speaker 7: I mean it's got to be just nice just to
• 42:06
Speaker 7: see that, you know, get together with your friends and
• 42:08
Speaker 7: get some fresh air and yeah.
• 42:11
Speaker 6: And I mean we have new people joining. We have
• 42:13
Speaker 6: people when they come into town they are looking for
• 42:17
Speaker 6: a group to run with, and so they'll come out
• 42:19
Speaker 6: and run with us on Sunday because they have.
• 42:21
Speaker 7: Their own group when they're in their own hometown, so
• 42:24
Speaker 7: they just find yours.
• 42:25
Speaker 6: Ye. So we have a lot of tourists that come
• 42:27
Speaker 6: and run with us. And there's a tail walker for
• 42:30
Speaker 6: the Chalceton distance run and there's always a tail walker,
• 42:33
Speaker 6: which is actually I think where we got the idea
• 42:35
Speaker 6: for park run. So for people who come out on Saturday,
• 42:38
Speaker 6: I promise you you will not be last.
• 42:46
Speaker 2: I thought we were going to go for it, but.
• 42:57
Speaker 4: We've been together doing this for a long time.
• 43:00
Speaker 1: Well, you know, I'm I'm really super proud of both
• 43:06
Speaker 1: of you all for the simple fact that.
• 43:11
Speaker 2: Not beyond the past, beyond the running, just the.
• 43:15
Speaker 1: Whole concept of all of the things that you're it's
• 43:18
Speaker 1: still like reaching out to people to get them part
• 43:22
Speaker 1: of something. I think that I think that is that
• 43:27
Speaker 1: is critical today for you got people who don't know
• 43:31
Speaker 1: what to do, and they don't want to do anything
• 43:34
Speaker 1: without somebody, and running sometimes can be that thing that
• 43:39
Speaker 1: you all are using to bring them in. And I
• 43:43
  Speaker 1: think that's you know, I think that's something that's really
• 43:45
  Speaker 1: pretty special.
• 43:46
Speaker 7: Especially with today's social and political climent. This is something
• 43:50
Speaker 7: that is so needed, is group community partnerships, you know,
• 43:56
Speaker 7: being able to get together and and you know, just
• 43:59
Speaker 7: take a break from everything.
• 44:00
Speaker 4: Absolutely, I think we all need that we do.
• 44:03
Speaker 6: There are so many people at home who may not
• 44:06
Speaker 6: really have a group of friends. I mean, people who
• 44:09
Speaker 6: have friends are really fortunate, right and just for a
• 44:12
Speaker 6: number of reasons. Sometimes we lose track of people. We're
• 44:15
Speaker 6: in a new city whatever, you know, and people are
• 44:18
Speaker 6: looking for connection, sure, and so this is a great way.
• 44:21
Speaker 6: And again you don't have to be fast. You don't
• 44:23
Speaker 6: have to run, you know, it's just a great group
• 44:25
Speaker 6: of people. After park run, we meet at Mia Kaupa
• 44:29
Speaker 6: on big Ley Avenue. Lots of opportunities just to you know,
• 44:46
Speaker 6: be with people, to meet people, to to get active,
• 44:51
  Speaker 6: to get healthy, and I mean, it's just it's a
• 44:54
Speaker 6: lot of fun. It's a lot of fun.
• 44:56
  Speaker 4: Sounds like it.
• 44:57
Speaker 2: All right, Well, we're gonna let We're gonna let you.
• 45:00
Speaker 1: We we don't have much time left, but we're gonna let
• 45:02
Speaker 1: you to go for since you've given us enough information
• 45:06
Speaker 1: enough for me to know that I don't run and
• 45:08
Speaker 1: run with either one.
• 45:09
  Speaker 2: If you are.
• 45:11
Speaker 1: But hopefully, but hopefully it'll inspire a whole lot of
• 45:15
Speaker 1: other people who are looking for something to do.
• 45:17
Speaker 2: So I do appreciate you both coming. Thank you, appreciate.
• 45:22
Speaker 1: Switching conversations drastically. Yes, all right, let me just I'm
• 45:29
Speaker 1: gonna start this way, Lisa with you. All right, So,
• 45:32
Speaker 1: typically when you when camp starts and you're you're everybody's
• 45:39
Speaker 1: in camp, your first scrimmage is usually something along the
• 45:45
Speaker 1: lines against the backups. You know, you don't go against
• 45:51
Speaker 1: your first team guys, and so you know, so I'm
• 45:56
Speaker 1: my assumption is Shador who I think played extremely well.
• 46:02
Speaker 1: And and the question that I have with that is
• 46:08
  Speaker 1: was that against.
• 46:09
  Speaker 2: The first team.
• 46:11
Speaker 1: I'm going to assume if he was there, if he started,
• 46:15
Speaker 1: then he probably faced the first team, because the first
• 46:19
Speaker 1: team will be the you know, the first group will
• 46:21
Speaker 1: be out there. They could be out there for a
• 46:23
Speaker 1: couple of series. They could be out there for a quarter,
• 46:28
Speaker 1: maybe half, and then they're pretty much done. But it
• 46:33
Speaker 1: appears though that he can play at this level if
• 46:41
Speaker 1: all things are equal, and he's playing against the top rated.
• 46:45
Speaker 7: Guy right right, And that remains to be seen, because
• 46:48
Speaker 7: I'm not sure. I couldn't I can give you his numbers.
• 46:52
Speaker 7: You know, he had a strong showing and this was
• 46:54
Speaker 7: against the Carolina Panthers. He was fourteen for twenty three
• 46:58
Speaker 7: passing for one hundred and thirty eight yards. He had
• 47:00
Speaker 7: two TD passes and nineteen yards rushing on four attempts,
• 47:04
Speaker 7: which is not horrible for his first time out there
• 47:07
Speaker 7: in an an NFL atmosphere. But I think time will
• 47:11
Speaker 7: tell their second scrimmage game or scrimmage preseason game. It
• 47:15
Speaker 7: is scrimmage in a way, right Their second season game
• 47:18
Speaker 7: is preseason is going to be against the Eagles.
• 47:21
Speaker 4: So I'm thinking if he can.
• 47:24
Speaker 7: Repeat this performance, because I'm thinking the Cleveland staff probably
• 47:28
Speaker 7: like what they saw, and he's going to get a
• 47:30
Speaker 7: shot against the Philadelphia Eagles in that game. If he
• 47:33
Speaker 7: can continue this type of performance, then you know they've
• 47:40
Speaker 7: got some quarterback controversy in Cleveland.
• 47:42
Speaker 2: I think so. But here's what is intriguing to me.
• 47:48
Speaker 1: If you're competing against somebody's second team, right, you know, rookies,
• 47:56
Speaker 1: basically that's not really the first team. That's not really
• 48:03
Speaker 1: what you're going to see. Now, I'm not gonna make
• 48:05
Speaker 1: that I'm not making and I'm not really trying to
• 48:07
Speaker 1: make the case that he can't play up to that level.
• 48:11
  Speaker 1: I'm just what I don't know is who he's actually
• 48:13
Speaker 1: playing against. And no matter how long this goes, until
• 48:17
Speaker 1: you get to to the realization of can he handle
• 48:23
Speaker 1: the pressure? Can he get hit? And because he can
• 48:26
Speaker 1: avoid it, he can avoid the hits, which is great,
• 48:28
Speaker 1: which is great, great, great, great? What if he gets hit?
• 48:32
Speaker 1: Has he been hit yet?
• 48:34
Speaker 7: And that's something I was going to bring up in
• 48:36
Speaker 7: my next next piece of this conversation, But it's not
• 48:40
Speaker 7: so much I think what the coaching staff, It's not
• 48:42
  Speaker 7: so much.
• 48:43
Speaker 4: The numbers. The numbers are good, right, the numbers are impressive.
• 48:46
Speaker 7: I think it's what the staff saw of his performance
• 48:49
Speaker 7: on the field past the.
• 48:51
Speaker 2: Numbers, leadership and stuff.
• 48:53
  Speaker 4: They liked.
• 48:53
Speaker 7: They liked that he was decisive, that was something that
• 48:56
Speaker 7: he could he was he was doing well with he
• 48:59
  Speaker 7: threw the ball.
• 49:00
Speaker 2: I can do really well.
• 49:02
Speaker 7: They did state and this was just what the staff said,
• 49:05
Speaker 7: And this is something I want you to kind of
• 49:06
Speaker 7: explain in Layman Layman's terms to me, but they said
• 49:10
Speaker 7: he needs to handle pressure, which you just brought that up.
• 49:13
Speaker 7: The other thing they mentioned was something about cleaning up
• 49:16
Speaker 7: his pocket presence. Explain that like in Layman's terms.
• 49:21
  Speaker 1: As a as a defensive player, I'll describe what I
• 49:24
Speaker 1: can assume that that that's what he what what they're saying. Okay, there,
• 49:29
  Speaker 1: when you're in the pocket, there's a there's a calmness
• 49:33
Speaker 1: that you have to have because there's people coming from
• 49:36
Speaker 1: the right, from the left, up the middle. Your presence,
• 49:41
  Speaker 1: if you panic and you're moving around, you're you're you're
• 49:44
Speaker 1: jerking around kind of trying to find a place to go,
• 49:46
Speaker 1: and then you still throw the ball and you throw it.
• 49:48
  Speaker 2: Great, that's good.
• 49:49
Speaker 1: But you've got to be able to stay in the
• 49:50
Speaker 1: pocket so that the route itself can develop.
• 49:53
Speaker 2: Okay, and you can still stay in the post.
• 49:55
Speaker 7: Do you have to be able to see the whole
• 49:56
Speaker 7: field is what you're saying, and not freak out.
• 49:59
Speaker 1: And not yes, not leave the pockets just because you
• 50:02
Speaker 1: feel some pressure. Right, most quarterbacks today, you know when
• 50:07
Speaker 1: you start talking about that running quarterback, that running quarterback
• 50:11
Speaker 1: has to have still has to have the ability to
• 50:13
Speaker 1: be able to be in the pocket. Okay, find figure
• 50:17
Speaker 1: out what the defense is, figure out where I should
• 50:19
Speaker 1: throw the ball before I have to move. Now obviously,
• 50:23
Speaker 1: if there's a blitz and somebody's coming right up the middle, yeah,
• 50:25
Speaker 1: you got to move right away. I think what they're
• 50:28
Speaker 1: trying to get him to do is to maybe stay
• 50:31
Speaker 1: just in the pocket, read it just a little a
• 50:33
Speaker 1: tad bit longer and see and anticipate where the opening
• 50:39
Speaker 1: is going to be.
• 50:39
Speaker 7: So for you, which which would be your more wanted
• 50:44
Speaker 7: quality in your quarterback on the field. Would it be
• 50:48
Speaker 7: the decision making in the in the being able to
• 50:50
Speaker 7: throw the ball accurately or is it more of the
• 50:53
Speaker 7: pocket presence and pressure handling I mean, or you have
• 50:57
Speaker 7: to have all of it.
• 50:58
Speaker 1: I think you have to have all of it. But
• 50:59
Speaker 1: if I had to pick one, I would probably have pocket.
• 51:02
Speaker 1: To be able to handle being in the pocket. The
• 51:05
Speaker 1: pocket presence, okay, because when you run, you're you're you're
• 51:11
Speaker 1: just running. As an athlete. Now that can that can
• 51:13
Speaker 1: show up, but at some point in time being a quarterback,
• 51:18
Speaker 1: you have to be able to be in the pocket, right,
• 51:20
Speaker 1: find a receiver, throw the ball him, catch it, and
• 51:23
  Speaker 1: you keep.
• 51:24
Speaker 2: You have to be able to do that. You can't
• 51:26
  Speaker 2: just run.
• 51:28
Speaker 4: So he's not in the zone yet, as Dante would say.
• 51:31
  Speaker 2: No, I don't think. I don't I don't think.
• 51:33
  Speaker 7: He's he's and he's young, and he's a rookie, so
• 51:35
Speaker 7: he shouldn't be in the zone.
• 51:36
Speaker 1: Really, And he understands his athleticism and his ability to run,
• 51:43
Speaker 1: and he can and I'm not taking away from his
• 51:45
Speaker 1: ability to throw, because he can throw the ball, but
• 51:48
Speaker 1: what he can trust all the time is his ability
• 51:52
Speaker 1: to run the ball to get out of the pocket
• 51:55
Speaker 1: and go. You've got to stay in that pocket. You
• 52:00
Speaker 1: got to find a way to stay in that pocket, sure,
• 52:02
Speaker 1: and find that guy that is open. Because you're just
• 52:08
Speaker 1: a running back. If you're going to keep running.
• 52:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it's something I wanted to bring.
• 52:13
Speaker 7: I mean, he's been the talk, of course, you know,
• 52:15
Speaker 7: dominated all of the shows on ESPN because of the
• 52:18
Speaker 7: controversy with the draft and his dad in DIONSO. But
• 52:22
Speaker 7: you know, there were thirty I'm sorry thirteen quarterbacks or
• 52:25
Speaker 7: drafted in April. Eleven of them have suited up for
• 52:29
Speaker 7: their respective teams during the preseason, which I thought was
• 52:32
Speaker 7: pretty impressive. I mean, because that doesn't always happen with
• 52:35
  Speaker 7: your rookie quarterbox.
• 52:36
Speaker 1: No, no it doesn't. And what I'm thinking has happened,
• 52:41
Speaker 1: and I can't confirm this. You might have looked this up.
• 52:45
Speaker 1: Most of these guys who were drafted in the first
• 52:47
Speaker 1: round are probably guys that they are hoping or expecting
• 52:52
  Speaker 1: to be Zerios.
• 52:53
  Speaker 4: Stars this year.
• 52:54
Speaker 1: Compete, okay, because even if I can compete against you,
• 52:59
Speaker 1: I'm making you better.
• 53:01
Speaker 2: So can I compete to early?
• 53:02
Speaker 7: Isn't that early expectation of a rookie to to expect
• 53:05
Speaker 7: them to go? I mean I've always like had the perception,
• 53:10
Speaker 7: I guess of the draft is you usually have a
• 53:13
Speaker 7: quarterback that you have a lot of confidence in, but
• 53:15
Speaker 7: kind of like an Aaron Rodgers Jordan Love situation where
• 53:18
Speaker 7: you know that the end is near. You know Father
• 53:21
Speaker 7: Tom is going to be, you know, victorious in the end,
• 53:24
Speaker 7: and so you're planning for future endeavors. Are these are
• 53:29
Speaker 7: these tepics that desperate with their quarter present quarterbacks.
• 53:32
Speaker 1: I think what they what they're seeing is they're seeing
• 53:35
Speaker 1: a quarterback, a potential quarterback that they can do a
• 53:40
  Speaker 1: lot with.
• 53:41
Speaker 2: And I can't pass that up because.
• 53:43
Speaker 6: Right I'm on the gate.
• 53:45
Speaker 2: Well, I might be the quarterback now.
• 53:47
  Speaker 1: And let's say I'm seven years in and I'm I'm
• 53:51
Speaker 1: good enough to start, I'm good enough to lead us
• 53:54
Speaker 1: to the playoffs. But we haven't gotten past that. And
• 53:57
Speaker 1: there's a quarterback in the draft aft that's pretty good,
• 54:03
Speaker 1: and we've got an opportunity to get him. I can't
• 54:07
Speaker 1: wait till the second round. He's gonna be gone, so
• 54:10
Speaker 1: I've got to get him first round. So now I'm
• 54:12
Speaker 1: getting him first round. And now I feel like I'm
• 54:17
Speaker 1: in a situation where if my if my returning quarterback
• 54:22
Speaker 1: is solid, he can he can get a year under
• 54:26
Speaker 1: his belt of watching, getting some experience. Then that second year, now,
• 54:31
Speaker 1: now we got some true competition. But you could also
• 54:34
Speaker 1: have that competition in the very first year. Okay, because
• 54:38
Speaker 1: if you because Cleveland has it, they do have a
• 54:41
Speaker 1: starting quarterback Joe Yeah.
• 54:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, and he was pretty secure.
• 54:45
Speaker 7: But now you know, since Shudor and if he repeats
• 54:48
Speaker 7: this performance, you know, if if they go in against
• 54:51
Speaker 7: the Eagles and he can do this or even better
• 54:53
Speaker 7: than what he did, you know you're gonna have some talk.
• 54:56
Speaker 2: But here's the question.
• 54:57
  Speaker 4: More talk.
• 54:58
Speaker 2: Who's getting the most.
• 55:03
Speaker 1: Or I'm thinking Shador is hitting the most play why
• 55:05
Speaker 1: because we already know what we already know what he
• 55:07
  Speaker 1: can do.
• 55:08
Speaker 4: We know we don't know what this preseason and you
• 55:10
Speaker 4: don't want to get your.
• 55:10
Speaker 2: Story, don't want to get him.
• 55:11
Speaker 7: We don't want to They need to be wrapped, you know,
• 55:13
Speaker 7: in bubble wrap at this point. I mean the way
• 55:15
Speaker 7: they some of them have been hurt, I mean some
• 55:17
Speaker 7: of the players in the preseason games. But I just
• 55:20
Speaker 7: find it, I don't know, I mean, to me, that
• 55:23
Speaker 7: seemed like a high number for the thirteen drafted that
• 55:26
Speaker 7: eleven have already had a chance to get out there
• 55:28
  Speaker 7: and play.
• 55:30
Speaker 1: Is most teams are going to put people are going
• 55:33
Speaker 1: to put the rookies out in the first preseason game. Okay,
• 55:36
Speaker 1: they're going to put them out just as as many
• 55:40
Speaker 1: as they possibly can.
• 55:41
Speaker 7: Okay, just so they can get in the value wills
• 55:44
Speaker 7: and make some decisions about we don't want to.
• 55:46
Speaker 1: We don't want our starting quarterback to play in the
• 55:48
  Speaker 1: first preseason game.
• 55:49
Speaker 11: I'm going to throw something out here at you guys,
• 55:51
Speaker 11: do Aaron Rodgers forty one years old, Kirk Cousins thirty
• 55:56
Speaker 11: six years old, Matthew Stafford thirty six years old, Russell
• 56:00
Speaker 11: Wilson thirty six years old, Geno Smith thirty four years old.
• 56:04
Speaker 11: A lot of these guys, if they haven't retired recently,
• 56:07
Speaker 11: they're getting ready there right there. This is rookie season
• 56:10
Speaker 11: every year for the next few years in the NFL.
• 56:13
Speaker 1: And and if you're the if you're if you're that
• 56:15
Speaker 1: quarterback that's in the draft, you're happy.
• 56:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, Because here's here's the other thing.
• 56:20
Speaker 1: I would love one year to learn from one of
• 56:24
Speaker 1: those names. I'd like to watch them, even if they're
• 56:28
Speaker 1: at the end of their at the end of the rope,
• 56:30
  Speaker 1: they're gonna they're mentally they're gonna show you something. They're
• 56:34
Speaker 1: gonna show you how to make this drastic decision in
• 56:38
Speaker 1: the heat of the pocket.
• 56:41
Speaker 2: That's something that you can't really coach.
• 56:44
Speaker 1: I mean, I would love And I had the opportunity
• 56:46
Speaker 1: as a as a defensive back to see a guy
• 56:49
Speaker 1: who had played at LSU, who had been.
• 56:51
Speaker 2: Starting with the Vikings for tons of years.
• 56:54
Speaker 1: I got a chance to see him for a couple
• 56:56
Speaker 1: of years and see how he operated, how he handled himself.
• 57:00
Speaker 1: And I marked that right because like I'm thinking, this
• 57:04
Speaker 1: is what you know, this is what a starting quarter
• 57:07
  Speaker 1: corner looks like.
• 57:09
Speaker 2: I need to I need to mimic that.
• 57:12
Speaker 11: So there's some kind of change that's happened, I feel
• 57:14
Speaker 11: like in the last ten or fifteen years too, because
• 57:16
Speaker 11: it's not like it used to be where Aaron Rodgers
• 57:20
Speaker 11: comes after Brett Favre or Tom Brady comes after Drew bledsoe,
• 57:25
Speaker 11: you know, they were kind of in the in the
• 57:26
  Speaker 11: wings waiting.
• 57:27
Speaker 2: For a few years. Absolutely, that doesn't seem to be
• 57:29
Speaker 2: the case. And I think especially Cleveland, and I.
• 57:33
  Speaker 1: Think I think that's a bad yeah, And I think
• 57:38
Speaker 1: that's a bad thing because I really truly have to
• 57:43
Speaker 1: say that seeing somebody watching somebody mimicking what it what
• 57:48
Speaker 1: they're doing a little bit and taking some of mine
• 57:51
Speaker 1: into it, I think is truly important at that level
• 57:56
Speaker 1: because playing college ball is not playing pro ball. So
• 58:00
Speaker 1: what you learned is not what you're going to necessarily.
• 58:04
Speaker 7: You know, it's obviously it's a whole differences afferent animal.
• 58:09
Speaker 11: Don't you think it maybe also has something to do
• 58:12
Speaker 11: it maybe contributes to longevity there too. When we spend
• 58:15
Speaker 11: two or three years watching the number one guy, when
• 58:18
Speaker 11: you're maybe the number two guy that gets to come
• 58:20
Speaker 11: in later in the game or when somebody needs a
• 58:22
Speaker 11: blow for a play or two, you're not playing every
• 58:26
Speaker 11: single down. As soon as you're drafted your first second year,
• 58:29
Speaker 11: you got a little bit of time to kind of
• 58:31
Speaker 11: get used to it, get used to that level of play,
• 58:34
Speaker 11: and I would have to think that would make you
• 58:36
Speaker 11: have potentially no longer career with you know, notwithstanding any
• 58:40
Speaker 11: injuries or anything like that.
• 58:43
Speaker 1: Here's the problem though, when you come in, Okay, I'm
• 58:46
  Speaker 1: a guy who's a seventh round pick, right like, I
• 58:48
Speaker 1: want to play now, sure you know what I'm saying.
• 58:51
Speaker 7: I want to and you want a chance to show
• 58:52
Speaker 7: that you belong. So you belong on that field.
• 58:55
Speaker 2: So imagine coming as a second rounder or a first rounder.
• 58:59
Speaker 2: You you're not thinking you're sitting.
• 59:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, and they're paying me all that kind
• 59:03
Speaker 1: of money what I'm making because here's the thing, I
• 59:07
Speaker 1: could be making more than you, Lisa, because I came
• 59:09
Speaker 1: in this year, you've been you're at the end of
• 59:12
Speaker 1: your contract. I'm making more than you. That makes me
• 59:15
Speaker 1: think anyway, that I'm already better than you. You're paying
• 59:19
Speaker 1: I'm paying You're paying me more than what they're paying you. Yeah,
• 59:22
Speaker 1: that's should be playing.
• 59:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's in your head.
• 59:25
Speaker 7: Well, and I'm going to just really quick just switch
• 59:28
Speaker 7: lanes here. We're still talking preseason football. But you know,
• 59:32
Speaker 7: the past week and we've talked about this in the thread, Carl,
• 59:35
Speaker 7: the injuries, Yes, the severity of the injuries. I mean,
• 59:38
Speaker 7: you know you had that Ravens cornerback. I think it was,
• 59:42
Speaker 7: you know, taking off the field in an air cast.
• 59:47
Speaker 7: For me, I think it's the for the players, you know,
• 59:51
Speaker 7: it can be for the unlucky ones, it's a devastating
• 59:53
Speaker 7: ending to their career or to their their their year,
• 59:57
Speaker 7: possibly their career before or you know, the fans even
• 1:00:01
Speaker 7: know who they are, like what you're saying, they're out
• 1:00:03
Speaker 7: there fighting for their livelihood in these preseason games and
• 1:00:06
Speaker 7: they're gonna hurt They're going to hit people hard, and
• 1:00:09
  Speaker 7: I don't know, I don't want to say they have
• 1:00:11
Speaker 7: the intention of hurting people, but they definitely have the
• 1:00:13
Speaker 7: intention of making a name for themselves right right, And
• 1:00:17
  Speaker 7: that's a dangerous situation.
• 1:00:19
Speaker 2: It's to me, I mean, think about it.
• 1:00:21
  Speaker 1: You're you're you're you're a first round draft pick, which
• 1:00:24
Speaker 1: I was not, and you go in with the expectation
• 1:00:28
Speaker 1: of playing. You're going to do any and everything that
• 1:00:32
Speaker 1: you possibly can to show that you.
• 1:00:36
Speaker 4: Belong in there, which can be over the top, which.
• 1:00:38
Speaker 2: Could be over the top, It definitely can be.
• 1:00:41
Speaker 4: Over the top unsafe.
• 1:00:42
Speaker 2: Yes, Okay, you're you're risking that.
• 1:00:44
Speaker 4: That's kind of my point.
• 1:00:46
Speaker 1: Okay, you're that physical guy and coming in and you're
• 1:00:49
Speaker 1: going to try to make up a stance so that
• 1:00:52
  Speaker 1: you're starting.
• 1:00:53
Speaker 7: So do we need this many preseason games? Then if
• 1:00:56
Speaker 7: that's the case, do we really?
• 1:00:57
Speaker 1: But it could happen in practice, Well, it's sure can
• 1:01:00
Speaker 1: can happen in practice because you've got scrimmages in practice.
• 1:01:04
Speaker 7: But the likelihood when they know the camera's on and
• 1:01:06
Speaker 7: the fans are watching and they're making a name for themselves,
• 1:01:10
Speaker 7: you know, I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Accidents happen
• 1:01:14
Speaker 7: and players get hurt. But I do feel the atmosphere
• 1:01:18
Speaker 7: at a preseason game is more conducive to people. Especially
• 1:01:22
Speaker 7: you've got brand new kids out of college that they
• 1:01:25
Speaker 7: really don't understand the game, yet they're out there, you know,
• 1:01:27
Speaker 7: feeling their way. And you've got some veteran players out
• 1:01:30
Speaker 7: there probably that have been on the roster trying to
• 1:01:32
Speaker 7: stay on the roster and they're making a name for themselves.
• 1:01:36
Speaker 4: It can be a recipe for disaster.
• 1:01:38
Speaker 1: It can be, But I think that just comes that
• 1:01:42
Speaker 1: comes with with with football. I think it comes with
• 1:01:45
Speaker 1: football at any level, you know, and it comes in it.
• 1:01:49
  Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's rooted in every sport
• 1:01:52
Speaker 1: with the idea of the new guy coming in wanting
• 1:01:55
  Speaker 1: to play.
• 1:01:55
Speaker 2: Sure, and I'm giving you everything.
• 1:01:57
Speaker 1: Now, football is a little bit way more physical than
• 1:02:00
Speaker 1: any of the other sports.
• 1:02:02
Speaker 2: We can make that case.
• 1:02:03
Speaker 1: And what you have to do to impress, Like for
• 1:02:06
Speaker 1: me to have to impress the defensive coordinator and the
• 1:02:10
Speaker 1: head coach coach, I got to be able to cover
• 1:02:13
Speaker 1: and I got to be able to hit somebody.
• 1:02:15
Speaker 4: Is it preseason four or three?
• 1:02:16
Speaker 2: Matt, It used to be four.
• 1:02:18
Speaker 11: I think it's are we down to two now?
• 1:02:20
  Speaker 2: I think I think you're right.
• 1:02:21
Speaker 11: I think it's just too yeah, yeah, because they added
• 1:02:24
Speaker 11: that seventeenth game, and now I think it down two.
• 1:02:28
Speaker 2: What did you do? Well? Are you really doing that swap?
• 1:02:31
Speaker 11: Well, here's the numbers part of it though, too. If

Speaker 11: you think about like the NBA, you got what maybe
• 1:02:36
Speaker 11: twelve guys on your roster, eleven twelve, even major League Baseball,
• 1:02:41
Speaker 11: I mean you're only like around thirty or so, You've
• 1:02:43
Speaker 11: got a fifty or fifty six man roster. I think
• 1:02:46
Speaker 11: for the NFL, you got a lot of guys. You
• 1:02:49
Speaker 11: got to figure out what can they do? And some
• 1:02:51
Speaker 11: of that you're not going to be able to figure
• 1:02:52
Speaker 11: out in practice. Right, So they keep gotting back this preseason.
• 1:02:56
Speaker 11: But I mean, is it really I mean, is it
• 1:02:59
  Speaker 11: doing them.
• 1:02:59
Speaker 1: In a well, think about it this way. This is
• 1:03:02
Speaker 1: how I This might be bad, but this is how
• 1:03:04
Speaker 1: I look at it. If I've already given you seven
• 1:03:09
Speaker 1: hundred million dollars, five of us guaranteed, and I'm bringing
• 1:03:16
Speaker 1: Lisa in and she plays the same position as you,
• 1:03:19
Speaker 1: I already know where you're gonna be less, I pay
• 1:03:23
Speaker 1: her more than you. If I pay her more than you,
• 1:03:26
Speaker 1: then I know where she's gonna be. You gonna you
• 1:03:28
Speaker 1: don't have to worry about getting hurt. You'll be over
• 1:03:30
  Speaker 1: on the side.
• 1:03:31
  Speaker 2: I mean, yes, I think.
• 1:03:33
Speaker 1: Where they are now or they are protecting trying to
• 1:03:37
Speaker 1: protect those guys who are making that money as much
• 1:03:40
Speaker 1: as they possibly can.
• 1:03:42
Speaker 7: And it goes back to our esteemed guest last week, Stirling.
• 1:03:46
Speaker 7: You know when I pose the same question to him,
• 1:03:48
Speaker 7: what do you think of preseason? And he basically answered,
• 1:03:51
Speaker 7: and this isn't exact words, maybe it is, I don't know,
• 1:03:54
Speaker 7: but I can't remember, but he did say, if you
• 1:03:57
Speaker 7: don't think every single move that this league makes is
• 1:04:00
Speaker 7: not related or about money, yeah, then you just you're sadly,
• 1:04:05
Speaker 7: you know you're miscotted. It's all about money. It's not
• 1:04:08
Speaker 7: about anything else but money.
• 1:04:09
  Speaker 2: It's true.
• 1:04:10
Speaker 1: It's true, and and it's and it's shameful because shame
• 1:04:13
Speaker 1: The money is already so good. Why are you Why
• 1:04:17
Speaker 1: are you worried about it that much more? It's just
• 1:04:20
Speaker 1: it's just a shame, you know. But hey, that's the
• 1:04:23
Speaker 1: game I played and we all love.
