- 1:01Speaker 4: I appreciate the opportunity to talk about poor athletics and
- 1:04Speaker 4: kind of what we got going on. Is we get
- 1:05Speaker 4: RIDSKT or another school year man?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, and we know this for athletic directors, it
- 1:10Speaker 2: never ever stops me. And you were just sitting here
- 1:12Speaker 2: talking about Hey, checklists, and I like the way you
- 1:14Speaker 2: put it. You said, Hey, Friday nights are a production
- 1:18Speaker 2: a basketball game.
- 1:19Speaker 3: That's really for athletic directors.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I mean, because it's the little things that the general
- 1:23Speaker 2: public doesn't think about. Oh until you don't have toilet
- 1:26Speaker 2: paper in the bathrooms, you don't have the coke machine
- 1:28Speaker 2: run out like it really is a lot to get
- 1:30Speaker 2: ready for a Friday night.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Oh, it definitely is, especially in our day and age
- 1:35Speaker 4: with all the jumbo trons that everybody in the metro has,
- 1:38Speaker 4: and all the recognitions and on the community engagement and everything,
- 1:41Speaker 4: the sponsorships.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's a lot that goes into it.
- 1:44Speaker 4: When you talk about a district, the size of our
- 1:45Speaker 4: district and the number of kids and athletes and the
- 1:47Speaker 4: fans that show up every Friday night. There's a lot
- 1:50Speaker 4: of things that go into it that a lot of
- 1:51Speaker 4: people don't understand how much time it actually takes and
- 1:53Speaker 4: how many things that have to fall in line to
- 1:55Speaker 4: make sure it runs smoothly.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean, and you mentioned it. I mean
- 1:59Speaker 2: there's things now that you guys are having to deal
- 2:01Speaker 2: with that you did before. Jumbo trinings. Everybody loves them,
- 2:04Speaker 2: but you got to make sure many football goes out
- 2:06Speaker 2: or uh, you know, the lights, the lighting, I mean
- 2:09Speaker 2: just everything. Let's talk a little bit about peerl you guys,
- 2:12Speaker 2: like I told Coach School, I got the place looking
- 2:14Speaker 2: great as always. Friday nights here are really really fun.
- 2:17Speaker 2: You guys do a great job with that production. Uh
- 2:19Speaker 2: talk about you know, some of the things that you
- 2:21Speaker 2: guys have done as far as approvement's here in the
- 2:23Speaker 2: last several years.
- 2:25Speaker 4: You know, at our football facility, I think it's really
- 2:27Speaker 4: a fantastic one.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You know, anybody that shows up, you can see it.
- 2:29Speaker 4: We have two video boards that we we show a
- 2:32Speaker 4: lot of things, the content that create that our kids
- 2:34Speaker 4: and our broadcasting group might help create things that our
- 2:36Speaker 4: kids get excited about. When you talk about hype videos,
- 2:39Speaker 4: our graphics and recognitions. When you're able to honor kids
- 2:42Speaker 4: from all different activities, whether it be R O t C.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Whether it be.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Somebody that's getting enrolled in the military, whether it be uh,
- 2:49Speaker 4: you know, kids that score high achievement marks when some
- 2:52Speaker 4: of our state tests with our elementaries and some of
- 2:54Speaker 4: our high school We like to recognize kids every time
- 2:56Speaker 4: they do something phenomenal. We want our community to understand
- 2:58Speaker 4: and see the good things that are going going on
- 3:00Speaker 4: because we have a community and we have a city
- 3:03Speaker 4: that's growing. You look at the neighborhoods and the roads,
- 3:05Speaker 4: everything popping up. You know, it's growing, it's booming, which
- 3:08Speaker 4: is phenomenal for us in our school. So we want
- 3:10Speaker 4: to promote those things that people understand this is a
- 3:12Speaker 4: great place to live, a great place to send your
- 3:14Speaker 4: kids at school.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And then look at our facilities.
- 3:16Speaker 4: You look at track, you look at football, you look
- 3:19Speaker 4: at baseball, softball.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Everything that we offer.
- 3:21Speaker 4: You go down to our Junior high and look at
- 3:23Speaker 4: our weight room that we that just got done, you
- 3:26Speaker 4: know down there in the team meeting room, and those.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Facilities are the phenomenal.
- 3:29Speaker 4: So we want to promote those We want to and
- 3:32Speaker 4: you know, our people in our community to understand that, hey,
- 3:34Speaker 4: we have things to offer your kids if they come here.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Ty WAYNMS is the athletics director Here at Pearl Wednesday
- 3:40Speaker 2: edition of your radio program. Yeah, you know, it's just
- 3:43Speaker 2: and there's so much more now that schools offered, you know, Pearl, Northwest, Frankot,
- 3:48Speaker 2: whoever it may be, you know, just from and I
- 3:50Speaker 2: love it too.
- 3:51Speaker 3: You know, I always joke about the.
- 3:52Speaker 2: First time I ever heard a coach reference bass fishing,
- 3:55Speaker 2: and you know, for a high school kid.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I thought he was kidding.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I didn't realize that archery, you know, pickleball, I'm I'm
- 4:01Speaker 2: sure at some point pickleball will be a sanctions boy.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:03Speaker 4: I think I think it'll You'll see a great You
- 4:05Speaker 4: see the grow incrass the nationally, how fast it's picking up,
- 4:08Speaker 4: and and just at our city we have pickleball courts,
- 4:11Speaker 4: you know, and things like that. I think it'll make
- 4:12Speaker 4: us way into high school athletics.
- 4:14Speaker 3: You look at our flag football with our girls. Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 3: you know, like it's boom, it took off.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Look at esports, you know, all the things archery, all
- 4:23Speaker 4: these sports and these activities that we offer, like you know,
- 4:27Speaker 4: our theaters, band core music, on our everything that we
- 4:31Speaker 4: have going on, not just counting your clubs that you
- 4:34Speaker 4: have in our building for our kids to do.
- 4:36Speaker 3: There's a million of them.
- 4:36Speaker 4: So it's hard to find something to always tell kids
- 4:38Speaker 4: like there's something that you can be involved in. We
- 4:41Speaker 4: want kids to be involved and have good experiences while
- 4:43Speaker 4: they're in high school, whether it be athletics or whether
- 4:45Speaker 4: it be activities you know, cheered in, like whatever it
- 4:47Speaker 4: might be, find your niche get involved because it's going
- 4:50Speaker 4: to help you grow socially as a person, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 4: and prepare you for life when you leave high school.
- 4:55Speaker 4: So it's phenomenal, you know, especially a school of this size.
- 4:59Speaker 4: We offer so many things to kids. Uh, it's just
- 5:02Speaker 4: it's a joy for me, you know, coming from this,
- 5:05Speaker 4: this home for me, so coming from here and seeing everything,
- 5:07Speaker 4: seeing how it's grown from twenty five years ago to now.
- 5:11Speaker 3: You know, back then it was just the major sports.
- 5:13Speaker 4: You always say, you're right, you're soccer, your baseball, your
- 5:15Speaker 4: you know, football, basketball, right, all those, But now league,
- 5:18Speaker 4: like you said, you look at everything else that they offer.
- 5:21Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Fisting with tyweemc Is, the athletics director here at Pearl.
- 5:24Speaker 2: We got a couple of minutes left until we at
- 5:25Speaker 2: the top of the hour. I call it the the
- 5:28Speaker 2: high school sports or high school football arms race.
- 5:32Speaker 3: It's amazing to see how high schools have evolved.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And now, you know, obviously athletic director independently roles, some
- 5:38Speaker 2: have sids, you know, some have obviously staffs that are
- 5:42Speaker 2: are are massive, and you've got guys that just come
- 5:45Speaker 2: and fill in. It very resembles a college now a
- 5:48Speaker 2: college model. Talk about how you've seen that change in
- 5:51Speaker 2: the high school level because you know what's going on here.
- 5:53Speaker 2: You go to startvill Jay Hobson's the athletics director.
- 5:55Speaker 3: You go to two Plow.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I mean, all around the state you're seeing athletic department
- 6:00Speaker 2: evolve into a miniature college version.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I think that's the way it's trending, the way it's
- 6:04Speaker 4: going because everything that goes into running the day to
- 6:07Speaker 4: day operations. It's not simply and can I get money
- 6:10Speaker 4: to a ticket and some workers right to show up.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's not that anymore.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Everything else goes into planning just the daily events and
- 6:17Speaker 4: then multiple games have going on, and then the overlapping
- 6:20Speaker 4: of sports seasons. It's hard to find somebody nowadays that
- 6:23Speaker 4: if you're a coach, I'm coaching, but then I'm gonna
- 6:26Speaker 4: take care of all the other duties that might come
- 6:28Speaker 4: along with be an athletic director. I've been, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 4: I've been an athlete Directoran foom Aall coach four you know,
- 6:33Speaker 4: and it's a lot.
- 6:34Speaker 3: It's taxing, you know.
- 6:36Speaker 4: But when you get to a school that offers this
- 6:38Speaker 4: many different things for kids to get involved in, it's
- 6:41Speaker 4: your time is limited and it's hard to be everywhere
- 6:43Speaker 4: at one time. And so I think you're seeing that
- 6:46Speaker 4: go that direction. Sometimes you can divide it up between
- 6:49Speaker 4: you know, multiple coaches can help out on different avenues
- 6:52Speaker 4: like this. I'm out of season, so I can pick
- 6:54Speaker 4: up some duties and cover some things in this time
- 6:56Speaker 4: while somebody else is focusing with their end season, and
- 6:58Speaker 4: that makes it a lot easier to be able to
- 7:00Speaker 4: manage all that. But I think the bigger schools, you're
- 7:03Speaker 4: going to see them start going more to Hey, an
- 7:05Speaker 4: athletic director, I need you to handle this.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Because all the things we're talking about.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Had they mentioned the social media, Oh yeah, I mean
- 7:11Speaker 4: in the communication and the community engagement in the website.
- 7:14Speaker 3: That's a full time jobing of itself.
- 7:16Speaker 2: No, there's no doubt about it. Ty Weims, he's one
- 7:18Speaker 2: of the good ones. Athletic director here at Pearl, Ty
- 7:21Speaker 2: we thank you so much for having us over today.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Thank you for joining us. Man, Thank you so much.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I appreciate the opportunity absolutely. Best of luck this year.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Ty Weems, Athletics director here at Pearl. As we get
- 7:30Speaker 2: close to the end of our number one, we'll be
- 7:32Speaker 2: here till six o'clock, a couple notes real quick, as
- 7:36Speaker 2: we'll get into more notes here at the top of
- 7:37Speaker 2: the hour. Let me get back over here to the
- 7:42Speaker 2: note section real quick. We'll getting some stuff from Bill Conley.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Offensive efficiency has never been higher and scoring is down
- 7:48Speaker 2: in college football. Why as Adam Rittenberg and Bill Conley
- 7:52Speaker 2: dove into slower tempos and also the good bad reasons
- 7:56Speaker 2: for it and time out usage and the effects of
- 7:58Speaker 2: the fourth down revolution on scoring and play sequencing. We
- 8:01Speaker 2: may get into some of that today, if not tomorrow. Also,
- 8:04Speaker 2: Old Miss quarterback Trinidad Chamberliss has built on his twenty
- 8:08Speaker 2: twenty five breakout season with a strong offseason. Quote he's
- 8:11Speaker 2: had a more muscle mass in his lower half, and
- 8:13Speaker 2: he's a little bit more zip on the football. That's
- 8:16Speaker 2: great for Old Miss, not so much for their opponents.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Are brought to you by our friends at Corvin Grier Construction.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Hey from the Delta to Central Mississippi everywhere in between.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Let them help you with all your roofing needs. TPO
