Latest / Minds, Bodies, and Terawatts / Neura Robotics Closes Record $1.4B Series C Backed by Amazon, Nvidia, Tether, Bosch
Transcript
- 0:00[Host] This is Minds, Bodies, and Terawatts, where the money talks and the robots walk. CNBC reported yesterday that Neura Robotics, a German startup, just closed up to one point four billion dollars in Series C funding, the largest round ever for a full-stack robotics company.
- 0:17[Guest] And the investor list reads like a summit of industries that normally don't share a table. Amazon, Nvidia, and Qualcomm from tech. Bosch and Schaeffler from industrial manufacturing. The European Investment Bank. And Tether, the crypto stablecoin company. Five different sectors writing checks to one company.
- 0:35[Host] Tether? The company behind the world's biggest stablecoin is funding humanoid robots?
- 0:39[Guest] Tether earned more than ten billion dollars in profit last year, much of it from US Treasury yields on their reserves, and they clearly think physical AI is where to park it. But the bigger signal is Bosch and Schaeffler, two German auto-parts titans that supply half the car factories on the planet. When they invest in a robotics company, they're saying the next assembly line will be built by our robots.
- 1:07[Host] I'm trying to picture the pitch meeting where a stablecoin giant and two car-parts makers all nod at the same slide. What exactly is Neura building that pulled this kind of consortium together?
- 1:20[Guest] Something called the Neuraverse, a shared platform where robots learn from each other across deployments. One robot masters a task, uploads it, and every other robot on the network can learn it too. Founder David Reger says the future of AI won't only live on screens. The valuation hit seven billion, and the full funding is contingent on performance milestones, so nobody's writing blank checks.
- 1:45[Host] Seven billion for a company most Americans haven't heard of. How does this fit the bigger picture?
- 1:52[Guest] Robotics companies have raised fifty-five point eight billion dollars so far this year, according to Dealroom. A billion dollars flowing into robotics roughly every three days. Barclays says the humanoid market could reach two hundred billion within a decade. This is a stampede, not one outlier round.
- 2:10[Host] We've seen billion-dollar robotics raises before. Figure AI, Physical Intelligence. What's different here?
- 2:15[Guest] Geography and supply chain. Figure and Physical Intelligence are American. Neura is German, backed by European industrial heavyweights who actually manufacture the components robots need. Rest of World reported that Chinese companies control roughly ninety percent of the humanoid robot market. Neura's round is the first serious European counter-bet, embedding robotics into existing industrial infrastructure rather than trying to out-manufacture Shenzhen on volume.
- 2:39[Host] Ninety percent is a hard gap to close from any continent. What makes this more than a well-funded press release?
- 2:47[Guest] It is. But Bosch already agreed to manufacture humanoid robots for the UK startup Humanoid earlier this year, and Schaeffler signed on as their actuator supplier through 2031. Now both are investing in Neura too. Europe's play isn't matching Chinese volume, it's controlling the supply chain. If you already build parts for every car plant in Europe, pivoting those factories to build robot components is a shorter leap than starting from zero.
- 3:15[Host] So where does this leave someone watching from an American factory floor? Patrick Deglon calls this the Labor Cliff in Unscarcity, the moment automation outpaces new job creation. This round suggests that cliff just went physical.
- 3:29[Guest] It did. Three continents are rearchitecting the physical labor market simultaneously, and when Bosch, Amazon, and Nvidia all back the same robotics company in one round, the physical half of that cliff moves from forecast to production schedule.
