- 0:12Hello friends and a happy Thursday to you.
- 0:15Sean here and you and I have reached Thursday we have reached
- 0:19the day where God has finished laying out his plans for exactly
- 0:24what a covenant with him would look like.
- 0:26And it seems like a pretty good deal, right?
- 0:29Can you Imagine you just need to live with Justice and basic
- 0:33decency to each other. And as a result, God is going to
- 0:36give you this incredible Heritage, this land, this space,
- 0:41and essentially, give you invincibility over all of your
- 0:44enemies. Wow.
- 0:45The list goes on and and you know, we think that deal was
- 0:48good. The deal we have in Jesus is
- 0:51just exponentially better that he just says to come to trust in
- 0:56Jesus to love Jesus. And accept his gift for us.
- 1:01Wow, fantastic. But I'm jumping ahead.
- 1:04Thousands of years steady on steady unsteady on Shawn.
- 1:07Okay, I'm calm, I'm calm. I'm ready to come back to
- 1:10Exodus. Let us read together this
- 1:12chapter and hear what Israel response said, this fantastic
- 1:16Covenant that God offers them in Exodus chapter 24.
- 1:31Then the Lord instructed Moses come up here to me and bring
- 1:36along Aaron, nadab abou, and 70 of Israel's Elders, all of you
- 1:43must worship from a distance. Only Moses is allowed to come
- 1:47near to the Lord. The others must not come near
- 1:50and none of the other people are allowed to climb up the mountain
- 1:53with him. When Moses went down to the
- 1:56people and repeated all the instructions and regulations,
- 1:58the Lord had given him. All the people answered with one
- 2:01voice, we will do everything. The Lord has commanded.
- 2:07Then Moses carefully wrote down all the Lord's instructions,
- 2:11early. The next morning, Moses got up
- 2:14and built an altar at the foot of the mountain.
- 2:17He also set up 12 pillars, one for each of the 12 tribes of
- 2:20Israel. Then he sent some of the young
- 2:23Israelite men to present burnt offerings and to sacrifice Bulls
- 2:27as peace, offerings to the Lord. Moses drained, half the blood
- 2:31from these animals into basins the other half, he splattered
- 2:35against the altar. Then he took the book of the
- 2:39Covenant and read it aloud to the people.
- 2:42Again they all responded we will do everything.
- 2:46The Lord has commanded. We will obey then Moses took the
- 2:51blood from the basins and splattered it over the people
- 2:54declaring look this Blood confirms the Covenant, the Lord
- 2:59has made with you and giving you these instructions Then Moses
- 3:04Aaron nadab Abu and the 70 elders of Israel.
- 3:08Climbed up the mountain, there they saw the god of Israel under
- 3:15his feet. There seemed to be a surface of
- 3:17brilliant blue, lapis lazuli as clear as the sky itself.
- 3:23And though, these Nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did
- 3:27not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant
- 3:31meal eating and drinking in his presence.
- 3:35Then the Lord said to Moses, come up to me on the mountain,
- 3:40stay there and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I
- 3:43have inscribed the instructions and commands.
- 3:46So you can teach the people. So Moses and his assistant
- 3:51Joshua set out and Moses climbed up the Mountain of God.
- 3:56Moses told the elders stay here and wait for us until we come
- 3:59back Erin and her here with you. If anyone has a dispute while
- 4:05I'm gone consult with them. Then Moses climbed up the
- 4:09mountain and the cloud covered it.
- 4:12And the glory of the Lord settled down on Mount Sinai and
- 4:17the cloud covered it. For six days.
- 4:20On the seventh day, the Lord called to Moses from.
- 4:24Inside the cloud. To the Israelites, at the foot
- 4:27of the mountain, the glory of the Lord appeared at the summit
- 4:30like a consuming fire. Then Moses disappeared into the
- 4:35cloud as he climbed higher up the mountain, he remained on the
- 4:39mountain, 40 days and 40 nights. You are a majestic, magnificent
- 4:58faithful God. When you make a promise to us,
- 5:04when you make a deal with us, we can just depend 100% on you.
- 5:12That you will always keep your end of the bargain.
- 5:15We are the only flaky part of the deal.
- 5:19You are rock, solid and dependable Thank you that your
- 5:23character is good and just and trustworthy.
- 5:29You are a wonderful God and we are your people.
- 5:33And we are so grateful. And so grateful that not just
- 5:37for this Covenant and what we learned through this, but that
- 5:40you have given us Jesus Thank you for the gift of your son
- 5:47that you would know what it's like to be human and that we
- 5:50would know what you were like, what a deal.
- 5:55We're so grateful and it's in Jesus name that we pray.
- 5:59Amen. We're so grateful and it's in
- 5:57Jesus name that we pray. Amen.
