Transcript
- 0:00Yeah, this is Glenn from A Shotgun Mistress and we have got a brand
- 0:30new single, Jude Judas from our second album, which is Kings of the
- 0:35Revolution, and that is out in June's so we've got the first single which
- 0:39is out on the twenty sixth of January. So yeah, I'm really really
- 0:43stoked for it all to come out. I bet you, I brother,
- 0:47thanks for joining us today, No no, no, no problem. Thank
- 0:50you so much for having me my pleasure. So as you say, man,
- 0:53Shotgun Mistress releasing new single Jude Judas on January the twenty sixth, So
- 0:58tell us a bit more about the song from a musical point of vie and
- 1:00what you're going for it. Sure, Well, the track is well,
- 1:03it's as I said, it's the first single from from the second album,
- 1:07and it's I guess it's kind of like a your first album is always going
- 1:12to be a test the waters and see what it's like and how we all
- 1:18work together, as I guess, a band, family and a democracy,
- 1:23if you will. So the second album was a really good chance to sort
- 1:27of spread our wings. When everyone works. The recording process was you know,
- 1:33ten times easier. We're all we're all a really good time working together
- 1:37as well, So only only took it to my fucking almost forties to find
- 1:41a band that I actually get along with. Yeah, so it's the song
- 1:48itself, it's a typical you know, the word judas obvious see biblical in
- 1:53the fact, where it's you've got a friend who kind of took advantage of
- 2:00you in a situation, and it's just a bit of a paying homage to
- 2:06a buddy of mine who had gone through quite a lot of shit, but
- 2:08he's he's on the up and up. So this is a beautiful man.
- 2:14As we mentioned, it is a first song taken from the upcoming album Teams
- 2:17of the Revolution, which comes out in June. So why choose this song
- 2:21first to represent the album? I guess Yeah, it was tough, you
- 2:25know, there was. There's a couple of really good standout ones and the
- 2:31second single I Absolutely Love, which is going to be coming out shortly after
- 2:37after this one, and then even the third one is an amazing song which
- 2:42we actually got Rusty from Electric Marian to do some to do some vocals as
- 2:49well. So that's that's a really really good track, and that one is
- 2:54called Mary Jane, So that's that's fitting name as well, really, isn't
- 3:00it. I'm not usually they got son called Mary Jane obviously being electric Marry
- 3:07there's they got Sweet Mary c So yeah, but yeah, it's it was
- 3:15It was quite fitting because I wrote the song not even thinking about having Rusty
- 3:20on board, so it was it was just one of those things that you
- 3:23all went together really well. And but those three are great. But there's
- 3:28it's an album where like we're we're super proud of the whole album and how
- 3:31it ended up, you know, from production value to the writing process to
- 3:37the finished songs themselves. There. Yeah, it's it's a real part of
- 3:42the album. It's got a lot more I guess dynamic compared to the first
- 3:46album, where the first album was still great, was it, Except for
- 3:50maybe the last track being the ballad, it was all pretty much, you
- 3:52know, similar sort of vein each track. But you know, these ones,
- 3:55we've got like mid teen both songs, we've got you know, hard
- 3:59hard class shocker mistress style signatured songs with the revolver Pantero type vibe, and
- 4:08but then we've also got you know, some Aerosmith style stuff and the top
- 4:14vibes in there. As well, So there's a there's a lot of really
- 4:18yeah, yeah, a great mix. This This is your second album,
- 4:24mate, so going into that, did you sort of set yourself goal,
- 4:27like you know what you want to achieve after first one? So in the
- 4:29second one, do you set goals or you've got a battle plan or like
- 4:32what you want to do achieve out of it? Yeah, Look, we
- 4:35were going independently with this one. It was something that we didn't really intend
- 4:41to do at the start, but we made it a part of I guess
- 4:46the structure of this release. I mean, as you know, I do
- 4:50radio promotion for a living anyway, and we're I'm classified as an independent label.
- 4:56Regardless of I thought, you know what stuff, I'm going to go
- 4:58in and and really take take the bull by the horns on this one.
- 5:02And you know, I've known the Australian industry for many years. I've known
- 5:06you for a few years as well, which is great and I really I
- 5:10really love and I appreciate this what that you do not just for us,
- 5:13but for metal and rock scene here mains so thank you so much. But
- 5:17yeah, I mean the structure for this album that was just a kicked The
- 5:24last album's ass and also try and I guess incorporate multiple tours. I think
- 5:28because last time we are we had issues with COVID and not being out a
- 5:30tour. We didn't tour until a year after the first album was released,
- 5:34and even that was you know, mainly supporting Electric Mary on their Australian tour.
- 5:40So you know, we've we've got plans in place now we're gonna have
- 5:44an Australian headline tour through Select Touring. Looking good for Japan as well,
- 5:49which will be good. Obviously we've got Gland first coming up in February,
- 5:56so we'll be coming up your way surely, so that'll be fun. Yes,
- 6:00yeah, absolutely, because I know that you go ahead and there aren't
- 6:02you I'll be there for sure. Yeah yeah. Actually after Janet Gardner when
- 6:08she was up overy last time, I was doing a draw managing for it,
- 6:11so we catch up as well. She's a legend. Her and husband
- 6:15awesome. Yeah, lovely people, lovely, which actually leads me on to
- 6:18the next Quesson was it was like we worked this out, mate, but
- 6:20we didn't. But you've got a big month coming up in February. Well,
- 6:26I'll do in the national run for Glamfest, which featureds Slaughter, Lynch,
- 6:30mob Heat, Janet Garda and more. Mate like it must be pretty
- 6:32pumped for that. There's some pretty big names in there, and you know
- 6:35it's it's not just our first I guess big festival, but it's our first
- 6:40festival tour, sokay. Having this to to come out this pretty much a
- 6:46couple of weeks after the first single of the album comes out. It couldn't
- 6:49have come at a better time. And you know, being able to release,
- 6:53you know, had this all this build up this month to the first
- 6:55single and then going straight into you know, talking about and first and getting
- 7:00all video and content up for that and then literally bang after that, then
- 7:04we go and do the promo for the second single as well. So Glenn
- 7:10first West stoked. I mean, as you know, you've got the likes
- 7:13of Slaughter and Lynch, George Lynch guitarist for Docan as well, who did
- 7:18a lot of the Nightmare on Elm Street stuff. You know, Janet Gardener
- 7:23as you're talking about from Vixen, Your Cruel Intentions Sisters Doll is high up
- 7:29there on the food chain this time. So it's really good to see some
- 7:32AUSSI up and coming bands be so high up in the in the roster,
- 7:39which is really really good. But I guess the thing that I'm most excited
- 7:44about is, aside from Tai Ketto and Jet Boyne is awesome, amazing bands,
- 7:49it's the local guys. And you know, there's a few bands there
- 7:53that I've always wanted to have the chance to share the stage with and see
- 7:59them live. And you know, Rag Doll from Perth awesome band. Never
- 8:03seen them alive, I guess commented every now and again on online, but
- 8:09haven't really met them before. So really good to see them. A blaze
- 8:13good good mates to Blaze. Over the years, we still haven't played together.
- 8:18We've always organized gigs but never actually didn't. Sister Dollars said, you
- 8:22know, we could smile and Cassidy Paris. Obviously, where one band is
- 8:26the other one follows with Cassidy because Steve the guitarist is is the father of
- 8:31Cassidy. Well, I really did, yeah, and Steve actually, I
- 8:39mean I haven't really spoken to Steve before, but Steve is used to be
- 8:43a guitarist in the Radio Sun and if you remember that band with with Jay
- 8:50Sol and me and Jason really good mates. So and then there's there's of
- 8:54other bands as well on the bill, so we're just stoked to not just
- 8:58be a part of one Melbourne show but all three. So ye cannot wait.
- 9:03Which actually you've done this again, maybe you've led me into the next
- 9:07question beautifully like that. That that is one of the best things about glennfestis
- 9:11here. I think it's a number of buzzy bands like you mentioned the Sisters,
- 9:15Dole Cross on Parody Passi Paris, which is my rag doll like these
- 9:18days, but I don't think festivals give Australian bands enough enough time on on
- 9:24line ups these days. But this one it's it's more than half pretty much.
- 9:26So it's it's testament to the fact that bands are doing so well.
- 9:31Yeah, and Danny is you know, he doesn't need to do that.
- 9:35You know, it's you know, most most promoters as you know you put
- 9:39people out as well, mate, so you know exactly what it's like.
- 9:43It's it's about bums on seats at the end of the day, and you
- 9:45know I understand that completely, so having so many local lacks on board,
- 9:48but I think he's he's really done his homework with being able to get this
- 9:54many bands on because there's that that's such a caliber that you know, they
- 9:58like, I've seen a couple of them live and they're phenomenal. So they
- 10:03definitely give headliners for their money too, So really really stoked. Oh yeah,
- 10:09now bath to you. Guys like shot Down Mistress have built your reputation
- 10:11around your explosive live shows. So for people who might not have seen you
- 10:16before, what are they going to expect? It's just, you know,
- 10:20it's it's it's classic LA's troop sleeves rock. But we try to sort of
- 10:24bring the stadium glam glitz to to local pubs. But this is obviously,
- 10:30you know, two thousand capacity venues, so we get a little bit more
- 10:33more room to breathe and run around. Yeah, I guess there's a lot
- 10:39of bands copies in the background. Yeah, Living in the Sticks, Weight
- 10:46Living. It's a rock and roller, you know, so I think from
- 10:50a live perspective, you know, we just we don't have anything digital.
- 10:54We're all old school vals. We'll like to keep it sort of as as
- 10:58yeah, original line, as easy as possible. When it comes to a
- 11:03live performances, we just let the music and the performance of the talking.
- 11:09I'm not sure this is you doing it or something. Strangers come on,
- 11:11but I keep getting the thumbs up come up on my screen, thumbs down
- 11:16coming up on my screen. Are you getting that too? No, I'm
- 11:18not getting anything. Three times now has come up and there's been the thumbs
- 11:22down. I'm thinking, like, what's he trying to tell me? No?
- 11:26Sorry, the plae might be on a cable here. Maybe you recently
- 11:33did some sort out to it with Electric Mary and Pulasity King. It was
- 11:37like, there are a lot of fun bro, but what do you learn
- 11:39about yourselves and your music as a band going on a trip like that?
- 11:43Playing with bands like that too, sold out the crowds. I think you
- 11:48always go into it, especially if you're a green band that hasn't done a
- 11:54lot of touring, especially with other bands that have been around for many years,
- 11:58like you know, Russy and the Boys have Tommy and the Boys,
- 12:03so you know, you're always going You're like, yeah, we're gonna we're
- 12:07gonna knock them off the off the stage sort of thing, because there's always
- 12:11a bit of fun advance when it comes to that. There's nothing ego driven
- 12:15about it. It's just a bit of fun. But then you go there
- 12:18and you see these dudes play You're life, So I guess you you learn
- 12:26to be a little bit more humble. You learn how I guess each other
- 12:33work together, not just from playing odd gigs, but obviously you know,
- 12:37touring and being in such a small environment together and you you also build up
- 12:43stamina I think is a really really good thing when it comes to touring,
- 12:46and unfortunately, when it comes to the end of tours, even though sometimes
- 12:50you might be burnt out, you've you've also built up this amazing stammer that
- 12:54you know, like going to the gym. When you stop doing it,
- 12:54then you know, you become you become a stick again exactly. Now.
- 13:01You mentioned our headlining is Australia tour earlier. If you've got dates of stuff
- 13:05for that, we can tell people about which one. Sorry, are your
- 13:07headlining tour of Australia. Yeah, so the album's out mid June, so
- 13:15we have an Outstates yet, but we're looking at doing Japan straight afterwards,
- 13:20so that's probably gonna be for a couple of weeks and then we'll come back
- 13:22and probably do the the Aussie tour sometime in maybe July. August I reckon,
- 13:28so I guess keep watching this space. Now that's good bro al right,
- 13:35well, thanks for your time today, Gladows usual pleasure to speak with
- 13:37the other single, Jude Judas, is out January twenty sixth. I was
- 13:41like the album in June, so keep an ear out for it all,
- 13:43and we'll catch you sooner at Glanfest your legend may I'll see you there for
- 13:48a beer. I trust act from U. Then attribute to all that a
- 14:20flea fall and I'm screaming from self friends to run out the way, cut
- 14:30outside. It's present of mine out to build a skateboard by s. Wait,
- 14:39fine, if we all lie the song, will I could bring me
- 14:43some me time the time I'm in the five and mine. You let the
- 15:05doors gave no tuns of ways, and don't wait to tell bout his own
- 15:07mistakes, and don't buy the guys you don't bother time where we break in
- 15:15the tab It sakes the best. We think the choice. We think it's
- 15:18better what we save time in the fall. It's loving it. I'm trying
- 16:02to le said all of it, try to make it on out. I
- 16:07want you out of my oh my days. But then I'm ready and leave
- 16:12you and try to race it, and we rest. I was out,
- 16:26my my mis reading a time time time jus, I'm bound to time jill
