- 0:00What if the challenge that you're facing right now is not a sign
- 0:03that you're going in the wrong direction? What if it's actually confirmation
- 0:08that you are becoming just the person you need to be that is capable
- 0:12of going where you've never gone before?
- 0:15Anything worth building will also build you.
- 0:18Welcome to the Revolution of Purpose podcast. I'm your host, John Streit,
- 0:22and each week we bring you conversations with thought leaders,
- 0:25entrepreneurs, and individuals who have aligned their life
- 0:29with purpose. And created extraordinary resilience. So I'm gonna live
- 0:32through it and accept it radically with grace and hope and love.
- 0:37I mean, I would be proud to be in this household. It was an honor.
- 0:39I had so much fun. Tune in every Monday for the Revolution of Purpose solo
- 0:44show and every Thursday for Revolution of Purpose Conversations.
- 0:47Welcome back to another episode of the Revolution of Purpose podcast. I'm John Streit,
- 0:51and today I want to talk about something that I
- 0:55think every one of us needs to be reminded of when pursuing something
- 0:59that is bigger for our lives. Because there are going
- 1:03to be moments when you have a vision for where you're going and you believe
- 1:06that you're doing the right things. You believe you're becoming the right person,
- 1:10but then suddenly everything gets difficult. Like something
- 1:14doesn't work, or that opportunity doesn't happen.
- 1:17Maybe the money doesn't show up as quickly as you thought it would, or the
- 1:21relationship gets really difficult. The business starts to struggle,
- 1:25or you get rejected. You start questioning yourself,
- 1:28and one of the easiest conclusions to reach is,
- 1:31maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I was never
- 1:35meant to do this to begin with. Maybe this isn't supposed to even happen
- 1:39for me. What if I misunderstood where I
- 1:43was supposed to be going? And my friends,
- 1:46that can cause a panic attack. But today
- 1:49I want to challenge that assumption because sometimes the challenge
- 1:54that you're facing is not a contradiction. It is sometimes
- 1:58the confirmation. I want you to consider a question today.
- 2:01What if nothing has gone wrong? Like,
- 2:03seriously, think about whatever you're struggling with right now. What if
- 2:07it isn't evidence that you're off course? What if
- 2:11it is just part of the course? Because when we decide
- 2:15to create something that we've never created before, we're going to
- 2:18have to become someone that we've never been before.
- 2:22And becoming that person requires something from us. It,
- 2:26it requires growth. It requires discomfort. It requires
- 2:30us to confront parts of ourselves that were completely capable
- 2:34of creating our old life, but are not yet completely capable
- 2:38of creating our new one. And that's why I say anything
- 2:42worth building is also building you. You're building the business,
- 2:46but that business is building you. You're building the relationship,
- 2:50but that relationship is building you. You're building the dream,
- 2:54but the dream is building you. You're creating a new life,
- 2:57but in the process, That new life is requiring
- 3:01you to create a new version of yourself. I've experienced
- 3:06this personally. When I first started speaking and coaching, I knew that
- 3:10I had something inside of me that I wanted to share. I knew that I
- 3:13wanted to help people. I knew that I wanted to speak and I wanted
- 3:17to coach, but knowing that and actually becoming the person capable
- 3:22of doing it confidently were two very different things.
- 3:25It took me a while to find my authentic voice.
- 3:29And maybe more importantly, it took me a while to trust
- 3:33my own authentic voice. Because when we're starting something new,
- 3:36it's incredibly tempting to look around at everybody else
- 3:40who's already successful. I mean, a lot of marketing gurus will tell
- 3:44you to do just that. Find your competitors, find the people in your niche,
- 3:48do what they're doing. Don't reinvent the wheel. You, you see how they
- 3:52speak. You see what they're posting. You hear the words they use. You see their
- 3:55programs. Without even realizing it, you can
- 3:59lose yourself and you can start trying to sound like all of those other
- 4:03people that are already successful at the things that you want to do. And I
- 4:07had to learn that the greatest value that I could bring wasn't
- 4:11becoming a better version of somebody else.
- 4:15It was becoming the most authentic version of John Street.
- 4:19And that did not happen overnight. The speaking engagements did not
- 4:23immediately come pouring in. The, coaching clients didn't immediately
- 4:27line up. There were times when I was first getting started
- 4:30that I could have looked at the external evidence and said,
- 4:34maybe this isn't working. You know, somewhere inside of me,
- 4:38I must have heard things wrong. I must have made a mistake.
- 4:42But I knew that I had to keep showing up. I knew that I
- 4:45had to keep finding my voice. I had to keep trusting my voice. I had
- 4:49to keep becoming more authentic because eventually, The people who
- 4:53need what I have to put out there are going to find me.
- 4:57And looking back now, I can see something that I couldn't always see while
- 5:01I was going through it. The challenge was not contradicting
- 5:04my vision. The challenge was developing me into the
- 5:08person who could carry that vision. I needed that
- 5:12hard season. I needed that uncertainty. I needed those moments
- 5:16where nobody seemed to be listening, where nobody seemed to be hiring me,
- 5:20where I was just struggling to make the ends meet,
- 5:24meet in coaching. And then that forced me to answer
- 5:27such a much more important question. Will I still believe in who I'm
- 5:32becoming when the outside world has not confirmed it
- 5:35yet? And that's the same question that you have got to ask yourself.
- 5:40I don't care what type of business it is that you're building. I don't care
- 5:43what type of field you're in. If you're in sales, if you're in real estate,
- 5:46if you feel called to preach, if you feel called to
- 5:50lead a synagogue, if you feel called to be a life coach, if you feel
- 5:53called to be an actor, if you feel called to be an entertainment and music,
- 5:57whatever it is, you have to find out deep down, will you
- 6:02believe in who it is that you are becoming, even if the entire
- 6:06outside world has not confirmed it yet? My friends, that's the identity
- 6:10work that you need. It is the question that you
- 6:13have to answer. It's the question I had to answer. And it's
- 6:17the question that anyone who is successful has to answer.
- 6:20There comes a time where you just have to believe
- 6:24in yourself. You have to show up for yourself.
- 6:28And you can't depend on someone else to be there to do it. You aren't
- 6:31always gonna get the validation from the outside world.
- 6:35That's when you dig down deep and you look and you say,
- 6:38I know that I know what I am called to do. I know that I
- 6:41know that I'm supposed to do this.
- 6:44And just because I have challenges, that is not evidence that I'm doing something
- 6:48wrong. It is actually evidence that it is creating me to be the
- 6:52person that is strong enough to carry that vision. My friends,
- 6:55think about Steve Harvey. You know, today we know Steve Harvey
- 6:59is one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world. He's on television,
- 7:03on the radio, comedy, books, business,
- 7:06really hilarious. But, but that isn't where the story started.
- 7:10Early in Steve Harvey's comedy career, he struggled.
- 7:13I mean, for years there were periods where he didn't
- 7:17have enough money for housing and lived out of his car. And he
- 7:21traveled from just comedy club to comedy club. Think about what that must have
- 7:25looked like from the outside. If your only measurement was his
- 7:28circumstances, you would've said, Steve, buddy, this isn't working.
- 7:32You know, maybe comedy is not your path. Maybe it's time to do something else.
- 7:37And I'm sure that there were moments when he wondered the same thing.
- 7:40But what if those years were not evidence that he wasn't going to make
- 7:44it, but instead, what if those years were helping create the man
- 7:48who eventually would make it? Because the Steve Harvey
- 7:51who eventually stood on massive stages at the Apollo,
- 7:55was not simply waiting somewhere in the future. He was
- 7:59being developed on the way there. Every difficult
- 8:03room, every rejection, every night wondering whether
- 8:06he should keep going, every moment that required him to believe before
- 8:11there was evidence. It was building something inside of
- 8:14him, and he was awakening to who he could be. That challenge
- 8:19wasn't necessarily contradicting his destination.
- 8:22Instead, it was preparing him for it. This connects directly to
- 8:27what I've been talking about on the last several solo podcast episodes about the law
- 8:31of identity transformation. You know, there are 4 stages where we
- 8:34awaken. We awaken to the possibility that
- 8:38we could become the person that's living that identity,
- 8:42that's taking aligned action to create the life we want
- 8:46to live. You first awaken to what's possible. You see
- 8:50a different version of your life, a bigger vision of a new possibility,
- 8:54something different than you can become.
- 8:58And this is where people sometimes misunderstand the process because becoming
- 9:02isn't always comfortable. Please pardon this interruption to your podcast
- 9:05episode. This will not take but a minute. Before we continue, I want to ask
- 9:10you something. Do you know that you're capable of more, but your life right now
- 9:13just isn't fully reflecting the person you know
- 9:16you can become? Then I want to personally invite you to schedule a Shift Mindset
- 9:20call with me. This Shift Mindset experience

- 10:23Every time you do that, every time you engage, you are helping to spread this
- 10:27message and inspire someone else to create their best life through
- 10:32also living their own revolution of purpose. Now let's get you back to the
- 10:36Revolution of Purpose podcast. You know, becoming often looks like resistance.
- 10:40Becoming often feels like uncertainty.
- 10:43Becoming can feel like things aren't working because
- 10:47your old identity and your new identity, well, they're colliding.
- 10:52But then you start to align. Your thoughts begin aligning with
- 10:55the person that you're becoming, and your decisions begin to
- 10:59align. This is where you start to take that aligned action as
- 11:03this identity of the person that's creating the life that you desire to live.
- 11:07The, the habits start to change. Your environment starts to
- 11:11align. Your actions align. And eventually you are
- 11:14manifesting. You are creating. Like, the external world
- 11:19begins reflecting the internal transformation that you're going through.
- 11:23But in human nature, we just want to strip We just want to skip straight
- 11:27from awaken to create. We see the dream and immediately
- 11:31we want the evidence. And life says, not so fast.
- 11:35There's someone you're going to need to become first. And that's
- 11:39where challenge comes in. One of the most important mindset
- 11:42shifts that you can make is to stop automatically interpreting
- 11:46resistance as rejection. Something becoming
- 11:50difficult does not necessarily mean no. A delay does
- 11:54not necessarily mean no. Someone rejecting
- 11:57you does not necessarily mean no. A failed attempt does not
- 12:01necessarily mean no. Sometimes it means grow instead
- 12:05of no. Sometimes it means learn. Sometimes it means adjust or become
- 12:09or try again or keep going to this universal academy
- 12:13that is preparing you to be the person you have to become.
- 12:17There is information in that resistance. There is development
- 12:21in that resistance. Sometimes there is even direction
- 12:26in that resistance. And now I'm not saying every obstacle means
- 12:30that you're guaranteed to get exactly what you want. Sometimes wisdom
- 12:34requires us to change direction. Sometimes we discover something
- 12:38just isn't aligned in who we really are, but we shouldn't automatically
- 12:42assume that difficulty means we're on the wrong path.
- 12:46Sometimes difficulty is simply the tuition
- 12:49that we're paying for becoming capable of living
- 12:52the life that we've asked for. So the next time that something becomes difficult,
- 12:57instead of immediately asking, why is this happening to me?
- 13:01Try asking, who is this asking me to become?
- 13:05Maybe it's asking you to become more patient or more courageous,
- 13:10more disciplined or more authentic. Maybe it's asking
- 13:13you to trust yourself and stop trying to get
- 13:17validation from everybody else in your life. Maybe it's asking you
- 13:21to finally stop seeking approval. Maybe it's asking
- 13:25you to become someone who can hear the word no without
- 13:29allowing it to define who you are. Maybe it's asking you to develop
- 13:33a capacity that you haven't needed until now. My friends,
- 13:36if your passion involves you posting on social media on
- 13:40the regular, you're going to develop thick skin. And that doesn't happen
- 13:44by just saying, I believe I want thick skin. No, you develop the capacity
- 13:48that you had not needed until you start posting on social media. The next
- 13:53level of your life may require a version of you that your current life never
- 13:57even demanded. And the challenge may be exactly what's
- 14:01developing that person. So whatever you're facing right now,
- 14:04I want you to sit with this. What if nothing has gone
- 14:08wrong? What if this moment isn't a contradiction?
- 14:12What if it is a confirmation? What if the resistance
- 14:16that you're experiencing is evidence that you're stretching beyond
- 14:20the boundaries of the identity that created your old life?
- 14:23What if you're simply in the become part of awaken,
- 14:27become, align, and create? Don't judge
- 14:31the entire journey by the hardest chapter. And don't you dare
- 14:35abandon the vision simply because you're becoming the person capable
- 14:39of carrying that vision and it's harder than you expected.
- 14:42Remember that anything worth building is also
- 14:46going to build you. The challenge you're facing may not be contradicting
- 14:49where you're going. It may be confirming that you're becoming someone
- 14:54who can get you there. So don't waste this challenge.
- 14:57Let it build you. Let it strengthen you. Let it reveal you.
- 15:01Let it call forward the version of you that your
- 15:04future requires, because anything worth building will
- 15:08also build you. My friends, keep going because nothing
- 15:12can stop you if you don't quit. Thank you so much for spending these
