Latest / PNW Haunts & Homicides / Santa’s Shadow: Krampus Unleashed on Leavenworth
Transcript
- 0:00There's nothing like go-to-old fashion fear of being beaten or Krampus-napped to hell.
- 0:10Yeah, there's there really is nothing quite like it.
- 0:15So they combine the two icons both showing up at your place on December 5th,
- 0:21Krampusnacht to either give you presents or you know the other stuff.
- 0:26Krampus even started being referred to as Santa's Shadow.
- 0:31Oh, yes.
- 0:33Very spooky.
- 0:37Ho ho ho, Caitlyn.
- 0:42Ho ho ho, Cassie.
- 0:45Ho ho ho, creepy people.
- 0:48I kinda like that.
- 0:50Hello.
- 0:52If you're new to our creepy corner of the world, this is PNW, Haunts and Homicides,
- 0:58where we chat about true crime, paranormal, and all things creepy and ho ho ho-y,
- 1:04in the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:06That's amazing.
- 1:08We also do a tarot reading at the end of every episode for deeper insight into our topic for the week.
- 1:15So make sure you stick around if you're into that.
- 1:19Yes, and this week Cassie sounds sick, but she doesn't always.
- 1:24True.
- 1:25Well, today is, if you hadn't already guessed, a holiday themed episode.
- 1:31Woo, woo, from the window to the walls.
- 1:35Skeet, skeet.
- 1:38I loved that video, Caitlyn, just showed me the funniest fucking video ever.
- 1:43Yeah, we're gonna have to figure out how to share that.
- 1:46We're just linking.
- 1:47Yeah, we'll show notes too.
- 1:49I love it.
- 1:50Just in case.
- 1:51Yeah.
- 1:52If you don't follow us on the socials, what are you doing?
- 1:54Yeah.
- 1:55We're hilarious.
- 1:56I agree.
- 1:57I loved my stories about the dolls where I was like, it's one person's heaven and another person's hand.
- 2:04It's very true.
- 2:05I actually had a listener reach out and say they were house sitting somewhere and they were concerned about listening to that episode, you know.
- 2:16I would be too.
- 2:17All by themselves and I said, no, no, no, no, no, it's not that scary.
- 2:22It wasn't that scary.
- 2:24It wasn't that scary, but I guess, okay, so for the people who weren't editing it, there was a lot of weird sounds.
- 2:35There were some shenanigans.
- 2:37There were a lot of weird sounds and I know we were recording over the internet and they weren't using professional mics.
- 2:45But there were some creepy shit in there.
- 2:47I don't know what was happening, but mostly the editing took it out.
- 2:50There was one that I couldn't take out.
- 2:52It was like over her voice or under her voice.
- 2:55It sounded like robotic.
- 2:57It was really creepy.
- 2:58So I don't know if anyone caught that.
- 3:00Okay.
- 3:01So Cassie was the one, I think, most scared by that episode.
- 3:06And I love that for her.
- 3:08Yeah.
- 3:09In the end, I ended up being like, oh my god, I...
- 3:11Is this editing over with "I'm sick of hearing EVPs"?
- 3:15Oh my god.
- 3:17Well anyway, today is a less scary topic.
- 3:22Is this the holiday?
- 3:24You know, we got to keep it light around here.
- 3:26So...
- 3:27All right.
- 3:28Well, you know, also keeping it creepy.
- 3:30We're baubles deep into December.
- 3:33Feeling so festive with your little joke and then that song, it's just...
- 3:40It went perfectly together.
- 3:42It really did.
- 3:43It really did.
- 3:44Wow.
- 3:45So as much as I love Halloween, we all know that's not a secret.
- 3:49No.
- 3:50And I have some issues with the religious aspect of Christmas.
- 3:57You know, that's fair.
- 3:59So I've kind of switched over to kind of more saying I celebrate like yuletide or winter solstice and that kind of thing.
- 4:05But, you know, technically my whole family still celebrates Christmas and it does hold a little special place in my heart.
- 4:14I grew up with it.
- 4:15So, yeah.
- 4:16It's kind of a magical time, magical season.
- 4:18Very magical.
- 4:20Especially when I can continue to watch Nightmare before Christmas.
- 4:24Which I did last night.
- 4:27Love it.
- 4:28And Jack visiting Christmas Town is like my top favorite scenes in the movie.
- 4:35You know that.
- 4:36You've seen Nightmare before Christmas, right?
- 4:38I have.
- 4:39I have.
- 4:40It's been quite a few years.
- 4:41I've been thinking about it a lot this year that I should probably rewatch it.
- 4:47You should.
- 4:48Okay.
- 4:49So he visits Christmas Town and he's like, what's this?
- 4:51What's this?
- 4:52He's, you know, he's never seen all the glittery snow and he's all excited and that's how he filled during Christmas.
- 4:57Even though, you know, Halloween, I feel it more, I think.
- 5:02Definitely Christmas.
- 5:03Christmas is special.
- 5:05It's warm.
- 5:06Warm and fuzzy.
- 5:07Warm and fuzzy.
- 5:08Did you know that the Pacific Northwest has its very own Christmas town?
- 5:13Yes.
- 5:14Did you?
- 5:15I did.
- 5:16I didn't honestly before this.
- 5:19I didn't.
- 5:20I really did.
- 5:22It has nothing to do with Nightmare before Christmas.
- 5:25It's just, you know, they're both called Christmas Town.
- 5:28So adorable, but it's still extremely magical.
- 5:32And I think a quote from this locations website is in order.
- 5:36Of course.
- 5:37Leavenworth, Washington is a charming Bavarian village nestled in the picturesque Cascade Mountains known for its unique architectural style and festive atmosphere.
- 5:49The village transports visitors to a quaint European setting.
- 5:53The town exudes a lively ambiance throughout the year with seasonal decorations and events.
- 6:00Visitors can explore the village's charming shops and dine on Authentic German cuisine.
- 6:06Sample locally brewed beers.
- 6:08Very important.
- 6:09Excellent.
- 6:10And immerse themselves in the vibrant festivities and cultural experiences.
- 6:16It's an experience that will leave you saying, "Holy schnitzel!"
- 6:22Adorable.
- 6:23That's on their website.
- 6:25So freaking cute.
- 6:26Holy schnitzel.
- 6:27So have you been to Leavenworth?
- 6:29I have.
- 6:30Yeah.
- 6:31Is it beautiful?
- 6:32It's gorgeous.
- 6:33I've never been.
- 6:34I've been, I think it was in the fall time.
- 6:37So it wasn't like snowing, but it was on the chillier side, certainly in the evenings.
- 6:45And all of the buildings are so cute.
- 6:48It's so quaint, it does look like a little old, tiny European town.
- 6:53Oh my god, I have to go someday.
- 6:54Was it all lit up when you went?
- 6:56No, I don't think they had any of their, like, kind of seasonal stuff before Thanksgiving.
- 7:02Exactly.
- 7:03Yeah.
- 7:042010, I was there.
- 7:06Oh my god, that was like a decade ago.
- 7:09Yeah.
- 7:10So they Christmas by the town and it stays lit up from Thanksgiving through February.
- 7:15So y'all still have time to go, like plenty of time.
- 7:19That's, yeah, it's quite the window.
- 7:22And they do all sorts of fun events, I'll link the website so you can go check it out.
- 7:26My mommy actually just went with her friends.
- 7:29Yeah, she said it was gorgeous.
- 7:31She sent me a couple of pictures.
- 7:33Oh good.
- 7:34And she said it was so much fun.
- 7:36And when she told me she was going, I'm going to be honest, I'd never heard of it.
- 7:41I just, I don't know, there's some things that are very popular that I've never heard about.
- 7:46Yeah.
- 7:47And this is why I'm doing the podcast.
- 7:48I can learn about them.
- 7:49That's fair.
- 7:50Also, I just realized I went in June.
- 7:54Oh.
- 7:55I did not go in the fall.
- 7:56Okay, was it cold though still?
- 7:57It was chilly in the evening.
- 7:59Yeah, for sure.
- 8:01But.
- 8:02So when she told me she was going, I looked it up and then I was actually really, really excited for her to go.
- 8:07But not for pictures of snowy mountains and lights because when I think Germany and Christmas,
- 8:16what comes to mind for me, I wanted her to be my personal Krampus paparazzi.
- 8:23Ooh.
- 8:25So the first thing I saw when I went on to the website was this little blurb on old crampy saying that the weekend closest to Krampusnacht knocked.
- 8:35Krampusnacht.
- 8:37Krampusnacht.
- 8:39December 5th.
- 8:40You might see Krampus costumes around town.
- 8:43It goes on to state that they're not having an official Krampusnacht. celebration.
- 8:50Okay.
- 8:51So quote, please plan accordingly if this is a concern.
- 8:57And I was like, huh.
- 8:59That's interesting.
- 9:00I wonder why people would be concerned about the big, lovable old Krampy-pus.
- 9:05You know?
- 9:06It certainly couldn't be his delightfully demonic appearance.
- 9:11Oh, no.
- 9:13Big and hairy with goat-like horns.
- 9:16Yeah.
- 9:17I mean, no notes.
- 9:19And a long tongue protruding out to glide across to sharp fangs.
- 9:25Okay. What about this tongue thing now that's weird.
- 9:31And of course, since he's named after the word krampen, which means claw.
- 9:37Oh.
- 9:38He has to have the perfect set of terrifying clawses.
- 9:41Ooh.
- 9:42Phalanges.
- 9:44So Krampus comes from Bavaria, Germany and Austria's Alpine region, which I assume is around the Alps.
- 9:51Yeah.
- 9:52That's exactly what it means.
- 9:53It sounds like.
- 9:54Yeah.
- 9:55I was like, I feel like that's pretty straightforward, but no, it is.
- 9:58I mean, I literally just picture.
- 10:01I don't know if this is actually accurate, but I just picture the sound of music.
- 10:09She's running through the hills because the hills are alive with music.
- 10:14Pretty sure that was based in Austria.
- 10:17And people skiing.
- 10:19Yeah.
- 10:20Definitely skiing.
- 10:21Yeah.
- 10:22And I've found since BC (before Christmas) and kicked off Yule or winter solstice as a symbol of evil.
- 10:32Working naughty children with sticks.
- 10:35Yeah.
- 10:36Eating them or just playing throwing them in a sack and dragging them to the underworld or hell, whichever you prefer.
- 10:43Great.
- 10:44I would prefer neither.
- 10:47Sounds like a fun time.
- 10:49Okay.
- 10:50I'm having second thoughts about that pillow in light of that.
- 10:54Oh.
- 10:55Be naughty, save Santa the trip.
- 10:59That's actually pretty interesting that you put that pillow out, totally relates.
- 11:04I had no idea.
- 11:08But they're kind of, they kind of go on the trip together.
- 11:11We'll talk about it.
- 11:12Yeah.
- 11:13We'll talk about it.
- 11:14Oh my God.
- 11:16So the whole dragging kids to hell thing is kind of interesting because Krampus is the son
- 11:23of Hel.
- 11:24Hey, H E L, is from Norse mythology, which I was kind of confused about how that was connected
- 11:31to Germany.
- 11:33So obviously I looked it up basically because of traveling.
- 11:36Yeah.
- 11:37The Illinois Library website says, quote, Germanic mythology is synonymous with Norse mythology.
- 11:44Anywho, Hel is the queen of the Norse realm of the dead known as Hellheim or just Hell?
- 11:53Oh.
- 11:54Sounds kind of familiar.
- 11:55Yeah, a little bit.
- 11:59And she is the daughter of Loki.
- 12:02Okay.
- 12:03We all know him, Trixi Little Trixter.
- 12:07Yeah.
- 12:08Krampus has quite the pedigree.
- 12:15Yeah.
- 12:16And literally every single thing in Judeo-Christian religions is just taken from pagan and other indigenous
- 12:23cultural and religious beliefs apparently.
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:26Yeah.
- 12:27As if we weren't already aware.
- 12:28Yeah.
- 12:29But you know, you just got to drill it in.
- 12:30Yeah.
- 12:31Oh my God.
- 12:33Okay.
- 12:40So insert Catholicism and Christianity into the mix.
- 12:44And now there is a Saint Nicholas, everyone's obsessed with.
- 12:47I guess being the patron saint of children comes with its benefits like your very own day.
- 12:50Okay.
- 12:51Nikolaustag.
- 12:52Oh my goodness.
- 12:53Not how you say it.
- 12:54Nikolaustag.
- 12:55Nikolaustag.
- 12:56Nikolaustagt.
- 12:57Nikolaustag.
- 12:58Do you need me to look it up?
- 12:59Nikolaustagt.
- 13:00It's just like the word, the letters are all weird because Nicholas is N-I-K-O-L-A-U-S and
- 13:07then T-A-G.
- 13:08Nikolaustag.
- 13:09Nikolaustag.
- 13:11Which happens to be December 6th, the day after Krampusnacht.
- 13:16Okay.
- 13:17So now all of a sudden there's a symbol of goodness to go with all the evil of Krampus.
- 13:22Super long story short.
- 13:24Catholics try to ban Krampus for being too devil-y.
- 13:28Okay.
- 13:29Like honestly who was first the devil or the Krampus?
- 13:32Right.
- 13:33That's fair.
- 13:35But eventually people decided that they liked the whole good versus evil thing and they
- 13:40wanted to keep the legend alive.
- 13:43Well, what they really wanted was for to me to take out the trash and, uh, yeah.
- 13:49You know what I mean?
- 13:50That's where I'm going with that.
- 13:52And hey, it keeps kids in line better than just getting a lump of coal, right?
- 13:58There's nothing like go-to-old fashion fear of being beaten, eaten or Krampus-napped to hell.
- 14:05Yeah.
- 14:06Yeah.
- 14:07There's, there really is nothing quite like it.
- 14:10So they combine the two icons, both showing up at your place on December 5th, Krampusnacht
- 14:17to either give you presents or, you know, the other stuff.
- 14:23Krampus even started being referred to as Santa's shadow.
- 14:27Oh, yeah.
- 14:28Spooky.
- 14:29Very spooky.
- 14:31Okay.
- 14:32So you remember Leavenworth in the Krampus Sighting Warning?
- 14:36Yeah.
- 14:37There's actually a reason for that.
- 14:41In 2020, a volunteer-based nonprofit quote, “Troupe of Thespians bringing the traditional
- 14:49Austrian Krampus folklore to America, known as Krampus Seattle."
- 14:55Ooh.
- 14:56They took to the snowy streets of Leavenworth for a Krampuslauf, which is basically a Krampus
- 15:04cosplay parade.
- 15:05Hello.
- 15:07They actually have very beautifully-made masks and costumes and stuff.
- 15:13It's really cool.
- 15:15That sounds amazing.
- 15:17I, goals is to see a Krampuslauf in person.
- 15:21Wow, wow, wow.
- 15:22I kind of joke that I was going to come show up as Krampus today because I looked so terrible.
- 15:28It's on theme.
- 15:31The people seemed to love it and the town's event organizers officially invited them back
- 15:36the next year and promoted the Kramp out of it.
- 15:40I love that.
- 15:43From the Krampus enthusiast perspective, the event went great, but three was not the
- 15:49charm in this case and they were not invited back for 2022.
- 15:55Oh, no, why?
- 15:57I'll tell you.
- 15:59Oh, no.
- 16:01A crosscut.com article says, "Community leaders were pressured by a small but vocal group who
- 16:09objected to the Krampus Seattle group last year, arguing that their presence didn't mesh
- 16:16with the events and the friendly reputation."
- 16:21What?
- 16:22Okay, but also culturally that's definitely in the correct vibe, right?
- 16:30And it's like it's one day.
- 16:32Come on.
- 16:33God.
- 16:35To which I say, a new breed of Karen was born and that is the Krampus Karen, Krampus Karen,
- 16:42the Krampus Karen's Unite.
- 16:44Yeah.
- 16:45So, ultimately, people are allowed to come dressed up, but not in any official events organized
- 16:52by 11 worth leaders.
- 16:55So that is why there is a warning to plan accordingly if you don't want to see the Krampus,
- 17:01don't fucking come on Krampusnacht.
- 17:04Seriously.
- 17:05But it's sad.
- 17:06They can't have their big old fun Krampuslauf.
- 17:10What was it?
- 17:11Krampuslauf party?
- 17:12Yeah.
- 17:13Yeah.
- 17:14But, Seattle Krampus is not wallowing.
- 17:17They have plenty of other events to attend, including Santa Con, which I didn't really know
- 17:23was a thing, but that sounds fun.
- 17:26Yeah.
- 17:28Enjoying other Krampus groups for the huge Krampusnacht celebration in downtown Bremerton,
- 17:34Washington, where the event was received with open arms.
- 17:39Open...claws?
- 17:40Open claws.
- 17:41Yeah.
- 17:42They even have a list of fun, themey things to attend in the town, like a naughty versus
- 17:48nice wrestling match between Santa and Krampus.
- 17:52Stop it.
- 17:53That happened last night, actually.
- 17:56I am obsessed.
- 17:59Next year we have to go.
- 18:00We're going.
- 18:01That sounds really fun.
- 18:03I'm not a huge, like, wrestling fighting.
- 18:06I don't really like that kind of stuff, but if it's Santa versus Krampus, I probably
- 18:10will watch it.
- 18:11I mean, come on.
- 18:12Oh my God, I just had a flashback.
- 18:14Do you remember that, like, clay-mation wrestling show?
- 18:18Oh my God.
- 18:19It was like on MTV.
- 18:22I hold on.
- 18:23I will look it up.
- 18:27Celebrity Death Match.
- 18:28Yes.
- 18:29Oh my God.
- 18:30That show is so fun.
- 18:31That's what this reminds me of.
- 18:32Yeah.
- 18:33It's definitely...it's giving celebrity Death Match.
- 18:38Definitely.
- 18:39I wonder if they had a Krampus Santa episode of that.
- 18:42Ooh.
- 18:43They should have.
- 18:44We're going to investigate that.
- 18:46Oh.
- 18:47They did have a Jerry Seinfeld versus Tim Allen.
- 18:53Oh.
- 18:54And Tim Allen played Santa Claus.
- 18:57That's true.
- 18:58That's true.
- 18:59Jerry Seinfeld could be Krampus.
- 19:01I love that for him.
- 19:04So now I have a quote from Erin Hale in this.
- 19:07This is from the KrampusBremerton.com.
- 19:12Krampus now challenges the Christmas Capitalistic Pressure to somehow match Santa's mythological
- 19:18generosity.
- 19:20What if we simply celebrated the good gratitude and greatness in each other instead?
- 19:26What if Krampus is here to be celebrated as a reminder that we have the choice to be
- 19:31kind, patient, and compassionate?
- 19:34Oh.
- 19:35I like that.
- 19:36I know.
- 19:37I think that perfectly sums up kind of what Krampus is about because he is scary, but it is
- 19:43cool to kind of have that the opposite ends, like showing you what really bad is and showing
- 19:48you what really good is.
- 19:50Right.
- 19:51This is a reminder.
- 19:55But now some people say Krampus is getting just as popular and commercialized as Santa.
- 20:01With places like the Peculiarium hosting mocktails with Krampus, Saturday, December 23rd,
- 20:09stop it.
- 20:11Or Raven's Manor having a themed menu featuring the Krampus Martini.
- 20:17Ooh.
- 20:18Designed for the icy Germanic demon himself.
- 20:21Oh, yes.
- 20:23Krampus cookies.
- 20:256.66 ounces of chocolate chip wither without walnut.
- 20:30Served with a cold glass of milk or almond milk.
- 20:34And if you need a little more of a hearty meal, order up the child stew in a bread bowl.
- 20:40Oh.
- 20:41Yeah.
- 20:42Literally have.
- 20:44There's something called child stew and I fucking died.
- 20:49It's just like, how do you order that?
- 20:56You know?
- 20:57I think I would just say, I'd like the stew, please.
- 21:01Childless stew.
- 21:03Also fun fact about me.
- 21:06I love bread bowls.
- 21:07I do too.
- 21:08So fucking.
- 21:09So incredible.
- 21:10Like sourdough bread bowl.
- 21:13Nothing better.
- 21:14I will eat the entire bread bowl.
- 21:16Yeah.
- 21:17Don't test me.
- 21:18Yeah.
- 21:19I would never.
- 21:20They also have a Grinch drink, which I had to bring up because I'm wearing my Grinch
- 21:23sweater today.
- 21:24Hello.
- 21:25And it's green.
- 21:27Got rain.
- 21:28I want to go get it.
- 21:32So this brings me to our last little bit here.
- 21:36We visited the Kampus.
- 21:39We'll set up through the veil.
- 21:41Oh my gosh.
- 21:42Yeah.
- 21:43That feels like a lifetime ago.
- 21:44I know.
- 21:45We took a bunch of photos.
- 21:47Chris took our photos.
- 21:48Thank you, Chris.
- 21:49Thank you, Chris.
- 21:51And we had little Christmas cards made from them that we're sending to our Patreon.
- 21:57Hi.
- 21:58Hi.
- 21:59Hi.
- 22:00Hi.
- 22:01Happy Patreon holidays.
- 22:02Yeah.
- 22:03You get a holiday card.
- 22:04We're calling it a holiday card because everyone celebrates Christmas.
- 22:07Yeah.
- 22:08Yeah.
- 22:09So that'll be fun.
- 22:10They're really cute.
- 22:11Yeah.
- 22:12They turned out super cute.
- 22:13Yeah.
- 22:14So if you're in town, go visit over there, visit Krampus, check out all of the amazing stuff
- 22:21that they have in the store.
- 22:22Like I can't even.
- 22:23Yeah.
- 22:24Actually, this is one of my purchases from...
- 22:28Oh yeah, it is.
- 22:30Yeah.
- 22:31And we also have a couple other purchases we made there.
- 22:35We got little mystery tarot cards.
- 22:38And the one I ended up opening it in the store because you can either leave it on their
- 22:44altar and like write, write a wish on it or something that you want and leave it on
- 22:49their altar.
- 22:50So that was my plan.
- 22:51And then I opened it and I got the double card, which eerily kind of looks like Krampus.
- 23:01It has a very long protruding tongue and horns.
- 23:05I cannot.
- 23:06I cannot.
- 23:07So I had to take it with me, of course.
- 23:10And it has like the back of the card kind of looks very Christmasy, kind of like literally
- 23:15just notice that today.
- 23:18So it was totally perfect. We brought it to put on our altar today to show off because
- 23:22it was just too...the Krampus connection was too much.
- 23:27It's just too good.
- 23:30And then Caitlyn has her mystery tarot.
- 23:31I think she wants to open it today too.
- 23:33Yeah.
- 23:34So we'll do that and we'll pull a card from my nightmare before Christmas deck for the
- 23:40tarot reading and that will be that.
- 23:43Ho ho ho.

- 24:53We're doing things.
- 24:54Okay.

- 24:57We have so many fun things to open.
- 25:02We have not checked our PO box for a little while.
- 25:10So we have an atorabal Halloween postcard that we received.
- 25:16But it's so cute.
- 25:18I know.
- 25:19I'm going to read it.
- 25:21Please do.
- 25:22It's spooky season.
- 25:24Thank you both so much for your excellent podcast.
- 25:28Your banter, wit, and excellent storytelling is a highlight of my week.
- 25:33Stay spooky.
- 25:35From Danny.
- 25:36Oh, thank you, Danny.
- 25:38You wanna...
- 25:39I love this because I was just talking about how I love Christmas.
- 25:43But I love Halloween.
- 25:45And there's something Halloweeny.
- 25:47Oh, I love Halloweeny.
- 25:50Okay.
- 25:52And then I already opened this one because I knew who it was going to be from.
- 25:56Because I recognize the handwriting.
- 25:59So this came from True Crime, Cat Lawyer.
- 26:03Oh, Hi Elyse.
- 26:04Oh, Winston.
- 26:05Oh, Winston.
- 26:06We love her.
- 26:08Yeah.
- 26:09So flipping cute.
- 26:11And she sent us a little sticker peac.
- 26:15Of course she did.
- 26:16She's always so good with the stickers.
- 26:18I know.
- 26:19Look at this little Christmas Winston.
- 26:21It's adorable.
- 26:22Oh, I love it.
- 26:24I really want Winston on the pod.
- 26:26I know.
- 26:27I know.
- 26:28So many things.
- 26:30And we have this.
- 26:31What's that?
- 26:33This came from Caitlin.
- 26:36Caitlyn, who?
- 26:38Not me.
- 26:39Hi, Caitlin.
- 26:40Oh, this is so cute.
- 26:44Happy holiday.
- 26:45Got that Lumberjack plaid on there.
- 26:50Right?
- 26:51It's not Lumberjack plaid, but all plaid is Lumberjack to me.
- 26:55Okay.
- 26:56I'm going to read this to you.
- 26:58Caitlyn and Cassie.
- 27:00What's up?
- 27:02Thank you for everything you have done to help me this year.
- 27:05I look forward to helping you both in the future to gain more viewers.
- 27:10Also, I look forward to doing something together in person, which we are working on.
- 27:18Yeah.
- 27:19I'm so excited.
- 27:20I love meeting everybody.
- 27:22I know.
- 27:23Literally.
- 27:24I love it.
- 27:25I love it.
- 27:26I love people.
- 27:27I know I would say people, but I love my people.
- 27:30Yeah.
- 27:31No, that's the difference.
- 27:33Anyways, hope you enjoy your gifts.
- 27:37Happy holidays, Caitlin.
- 27:39Yes.
- 27:40Oh my gosh.
- 27:43My eyes are tearing up.
- 27:44I'm not crying.
- 27:46She's not crying, though.
- 27:50Oh no.
- 27:52Oh no.
- 27:53Oh my god.
- 27:54What?
- 27:55Okay.
- 27:56There's candy cans.
- 27:58Yes.
- 27:59And there's two little wrapped things in here.
- 28:06Okay.
- 28:07One has tarot cards on it and one has a Ouija board.
- 28:10So I feel like the tarot cards might be for you.
- 28:14That feels on brand.
- 28:16Oh my god.
- 28:21Is this a sucker?
- 28:23Yes.
- 28:24This is the cutest fucking thing I've ever seen.
- 28:26We'll take closer pictures.
- 28:28Oh my god.
- 28:29Where did you get this?
- 28:31Oh my god.
- 28:33I am obsessed.
- 28:35Mine's blackberry pear.
- 28:37Ooh.
- 28:38Ooh.
- 28:39Oh yeah.
- 28:40I did see the Skittles right on top.
- 28:41So those are already gone.
- 28:43Oh my gosh.
- 28:44This is so cute.
- 28:47Stop it.
- 28:48A tarot card.
- 28:50Scented bath bomb.
- 28:52Oh my god.
- 28:53Yours is so cute.
- 28:54Look at this.
- 28:55Ooh.
- 28:56It's so excited for this.
- 29:05What is your scent?
- 29:07Um, a biscuit.
- 29:09I love a biscuit.
- 29:10What's yours?
- 29:11Rose.
- 29:12Do we need a trade?
- 29:13What do you want?
- 29:15I love Rose.
- 29:17Thank you, Kate.
- 29:19I was.
- 29:20We traded.
- 29:21Oh my gosh.
- 29:23I'm taking a bath like tonight.
- 29:28I don't have a tub, but I will find one.
- 29:31I have a tub.
- 29:32I actually do.
- 29:33Okay.
- 29:34I'm house sitting.
- 29:35So I do have access to a tub.
- 29:36Actually, this is perfect.
- 29:37This is so perfect.
- 29:38I'm so excited.
- 29:39I all have a tub, Kate.
- 29:40I'm so excited.
- 29:41I'm going to take a video.
- 29:42So excited.
- 29:43Yeah.
- 29:44I was just going to say.
- 29:45Oh my gosh.
- 29:46Okay.
- 29:47What else is in here?
- 29:48Oh my gosh.
- 29:49Oh my gosh.
- 29:56Oh my gosh.
- 29:58Oh my gosh.
- 29:59Oh.
- 30:00Self-care thing.
- 30:01Oh.
- 30:02Oh my gosh.
- 30:03Oh my gosh.
- 30:04Oh my gosh.
- 30:05Oh my gosh.
- 30:06Oh my gosh.
- 30:07Oh.
- 30:08Self-care thing.
- 30:09Oh.
- 30:10Oh my gosh.
- 30:11Oh my gosh.
- 30:12Oh my gosh.
- 30:13Oh my gosh.
- 30:14Oh my gosh.
- 30:15Oh my gosh.
- 30:16Oh.
- 30:17Self-care thing.
- 30:18and a boob mask! I love this! It has bows for your tea toss. This is amazing. I'm gonna smear
- 30:28this all over my boobs and butt and it's gonna be great. We're not gonna take pictures of that.
- 30:33Oh my god! This is amazing! I'm so excited. Thank you so much, Caitlin. You're literally the fricken
- 30:44sweetest. That was excitement. Should we do our little tarot? Okay. Are we gonna do my envelope
- 30:54tarot? Do your mystery first. You're just gonna break open a candy cane right now. I know.
- 31:02Ooh! What is it? That's the backside of the car. Hey girl! Cute skulls? Five of pentacles.
- 31:16Dropping that money. Oh no! Is it not good? Yeah, the five of pentacles is that's throwing away
- 31:27money. That's misleading. Oh! Look at the... Can you see that? Oh, that's right. I do remember that one.
- 31:34Wasn't that a Christmas episode too? That we got that. It was the train wreck one. I don't know if
- 31:40that was Christmas, maybe it was the train wreck snowy one. Yeah. That is okay. So it's a snowy
- 31:45car. That's interesting. Maybe it just relates to this episode, you know? Oh my god, it does.
- 31:52Okay. I found it already. Often this car depicts a couple or a family in an attitude of humility,
- 32:00poverty or hardship. Their desperation and suffering are evident. Sometimes a stained glass
- 32:08church window appears above them, which indicates emphasizing spiritual values over material ones.
- 32:17Oh, okay. Wow. It's not just a season about stuff. Yeah. That was a big part of this episode,
- 32:25because Krampus represents the commercialization of Christmas. I cannot believe that. You got a
- 32:35Krampus and I got a card that was like, "Hey, maybe don't make everything about stuff." Wow,
- 32:42that's really cool. I love that. There you go. Okay. Oh, I got the lovers. Stop it. We did. That's so fun.
- 32:56It was Christmasy, but yeah, it was technically in reverse when I looked at it, but I just felt like
- 33:03it was in, I flipped it and that's how it was. So it's in upright for me. Okay. In my brain.
- 33:09Lovers, Missilto. I know I feel so bad. I wanted to get some Missilto and I just
- 33:18I thought about it once and it went out of my brain and I forgot my Missilto headband, but I
- 33:24wore that Missilto headband to kiss Krampus in the pictures. It did. That's so cute.
- 33:33All I want for Christmas is Krampus or Krampus. Yeah. Okay. So, oh, this is interesting. Cassie, our key
- 33:45words are partnership union of opposites. Oh, partnership like Santa and Krampus union of opposites.
- 33:56Look at us. I know. We're so witchy. Choices, harmony, cooperation, choices, choice between good
- 34:05and evil. Yeah. Cooperation. Don't be naughty and get beaten by Krampus with sticks. Yeah.
- 34:12Yeah. The lovers card usually shows a man and woman, but they're the similarities and in some
- 34:25decks, they're naked in others, they're clothes. Some decks show the couple touching, even engaged in
- 34:33a passionate embrace, whereas others place them on opposite sides of the card, perhaps with a
- 34:41winged being overlooking them. Alla, garden of Eden. There's that. The winged beings are back.
- 34:53You'll even find decks that present three people on the card as if a third party who might be a
- 35:00young person or an older parental figure is influencing their relationship like a Krampus card.
- 35:09Oh, or like a child influencing, you know, which is going to be either way. Although many people
- 35:18interpret this card as representing romantic love, it's really about the union of opposites,
- 35:25your own dual nature. Wow. This is so cool. I love this. That doesn't rule out romance in your future
- 35:35if the lovers shows up in a reading. It just means union has many meanings other than male female
- 35:43coupling. Yeah, it does. And trusting. Okay, so let's do our upright interpretation. I also just
- 35:52got a flash of Krampus and Santa wrestling. I love that. This is a card of cooperation, of working
- 36:02together with others to accomplish a joint purpose. A joint purpose. You're not even the stoner.
- 36:12Yeah. Yeah, yeah. We're allegedly. We've got some ideas.
- 36:16When it appears upright, it signifies an attraction and partnership of some kind, not only the
- 36:26romantic variety. It can also suggest you're uniting disparate parts of yourself. The lovers
- 36:35represents a period of harmony in personal or professional matters. Sometimes it indicates
- 36:42you need to make a choice between two things you value, but you'll make the right decision.
- 36:47Or you'll get dragged to hell. I was like, I'm just going to wait for it. Or put into stew.
- 36:55In a reading about money, you can profit from combining your resources with someone else's.
- 37:05That's amazing. Sometimes the lovers symbolizes benefiting from a partner's money or marrying into
- 37:17wealth. I got this card recently for someone else that I was doing a reading for. And I was like,
- 37:23oh, yeah, you did. If you're seeking a financial backer, this card gives you a thumbs up.
- 37:32If the reading is about your job, this card represents a time of cooperation, contentment, and harmony.
- 37:40Joint projects are favored now. Two forces have united toward a common goal.
- 37:46The lovers can also signify meeting a partner through work or working through
- 37:52working with a romantic partner in business.
- 37:59Krampus Santa. Yeah. This is Claus. Watch out. This is Claus. This is Claus. What if Mrs. Claus is crampus?
- 38:10I don't know. Every picture I've seen of her is like a cute little old grandma in disguise. What if she
- 38:20comes out as crampus? I love this conspiracy theory that I just created. She cooked that up right
- 38:29click. That was that's something. Mrs. Claus doesn't even have a first name. You know what I mean? We just
- 38:36call her Mrs. Claus. We need to look into that. Does she have a first name? Like, is there any mythology
- 38:42there where she is? There's got to be, right? Yeah. I mean in the claymation one where he meets her,
- 38:49she has a name, but I don't remember what it is. Okay. Well, anyway, put a pin in that
- 38:56in a reading about love, this card boats well for a romantic relationship. It shows mutual caring
- 39:04and attraction, a rewarding partnership that brings out the best in both people. Sometimes it means
- 39:11a decision in connection with a love relationship. Yeah. This whole thing is just like, I good versus
- 39:22evil, Krampus, Santa. Like, yeah, their whole relationship. That's so cool. I just realized there's
- 39:28a card on the ground. What? There's a card on the ground. Holy shh. Holy schnitzel. Holy schnitzel.
- 39:36It's the five of presents. So yeah, I'm very curious. I guess it just fell down when I was doing
- 39:42something or other. Five of pinnacles in my... Oh yeah. Oh, is presents pinnacles? What do we decide?
- 39:50I don't remember. That would be weird. I would not be surprised though. Yeah, candles would be ones.
- 39:59Presence would be pinnacles, needle swords, push and scuops. Wow! This is just on the floor. Five
- 40:06five presents. We don't even need to read it because we read it already. Wow. But I don't know when it
- 40:14looks like presents. That is so... Yeah, I cannot believe that. That is really cool. I wonder if you could
- 40:21see it in the video when it fell out. Oh, I don't know. I probably think they're gonna fall off the bottom
- 40:27or something. Yeah, that's so cool. What are the odds that we buy two little tarot readings
- 40:37out through the veil? And one of them looks like crampus. One of them is five of... I pentacles.
- 40:45And then this other five pinnacles drops out. Weird. Okay. People are gonna literally...
- 40:54They're gonna be thinking we're making this up. I just... They watched it. I mean, we didn't...
- 41:01I'm always afraid that people are gonna be like, "Woooo!" Well, and if you want to see, I pulled this
- 41:06card out in a video and I put it with the little reel and TikTok I made for the through the veil
- 41:13episode. Yeah, that's right. And I pulled it out. So that was me literally opening it right there.
- 41:18I feel like are we gonna have conspiracy theories about our terrestrial beings? I hope so. Can we
- 41:23start a Reddit thread on the conspiracy theory for us? Maybe. I really don't want that because
- 41:30they're so good. Like they're really right on. I... That's why I want it to be like so above board
- 41:37that people know they're real. Yeah. They do. Oh, this is so cool. I need a candy cane and a nap.
- 41:46Drink. We have to open gifts still. Oh, oh my god. Yeah. So let's end it for normal people. And then
- 41:55we're gonna continue opening gifts for our Patreon. Okay. Have a creep miss crampus not.
- 42:02With a bunch of ass. There was no ass in there. All the all the Krampus ass. All the ass.
- 42:10Kramp ass. Kramp ass. Kramp ass. How did I put no Kramp ass jokes in my... in my episode? I don't know.
- 42:18I'm sick. That's what happens. I'm surprised this reading turned out so good. How sick I am too.
- 42:26I know. Well, I shuffle the shit out of those cards. Well, you were... you held this together. Mine
- 42:33was from the past. So past healthy Cassie. Pulled the right card. Well, and this one. Oh, I mean,
- 42:41that was weeks ago. Yeah. Did I pick that for you or you picked it? No, I... I think you... Yeah, you...
- 42:47specifically brought me. Yeah. The bowl of the cards and we're like, pick yours. Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:54Okay, well, let's open these presents. Who is first?
- 43:00[Music]
- 43:10[Music]
- 43:35Germanic mythology is synonymous with North. North Musa. Musa, Judy. I mean, it's a shoe face. Oh my
- 43:44God. North mythology. It's that it's the... Yeah. You know, North mythology. North. You said
- 43:54well. I know. I was like, "Damn it." I know. Okay. Hel is the queen of the North. My God.
