- 0:00And Hide Squads podcast. How are we doing out there? Probably sunny day,
- 0:15isn't it? Walking in I was nearly walked into the wall us looking
- 0:21at all the vapor trails from all the planes that are flying off to the
- 0:24hot places. Anyway, this is Kevin's Sports Very Daily here on one oh
- 0:29five point nine Academy of m bringing you the folks done on a high sports
- 0:33show. Coming up on the show today we have reports on football, hockey,
- 0:42half term camps for kids, rugby basketball, wheelchair basketball, and a
- 0:51report on charity donations made after the silt Wood Boxing Day run but across country
- 0:58news and I mentioned for two special ladies who completed their own personal January challenge.
- 1:08So don't go away, put your feet up. We've got a great
- 1:11mixture of music and sport coming up over the next two hours. Have a
- 1:19cup of tea in the conservatory. I bet it's nice and warming there right
- 1:25In the meantime, we've got some man from Man's Earth band are blinded by
- 1:29the light, and some local music, So sit back and take it easy.
- 1:41Local music there from tests and that was a song called save Me from
- 1:44Myself. Okay, let's start with football, and I'm going to start with
- 1:48two words that you must have rammed down your throat at the weekend Maidstone United.
- 1:53Now I know it's not focused on hives, but folks on, I've
- 1:56had some ding dong games against Maidstone United and you've got a just hold your
- 2:00hand up and say, how well did they do against Ipswitch in that cup
- 2:05round? Well did you watch it? I mean me and missus Ferrett,
- 2:08we watched it and we were buying our nails. You know, you couldn't
- 2:13look at one time. It was like Doctor Who when used to get beyond
- 2:16us over if, I just can't watch this anymore. And as the clock
- 2:20ticked down and the final whistle went, oh, it was just magic and
- 2:25you just got a feel for the Maystone supporters, you know, the whole
- 2:28town. Now it's lifted them. It's amazing because the capacity of the ground
- 2:31is about two and two hundred and fifty. Yet yeah, four thousand people
- 2:37from Maystone went up to what's the game? But yeah, why not just
- 2:40get beyond the town. So it's fantastic. Okay, So let's move on
- 2:45to some local football. Last Saturday in Victor we're at home to Carl Schlton,
- 2:49so let's have a little listen to this report from Charlie Prescott joined me
- 2:53from the Our Client Stadium where Folks and the Victor took on Carl Sharlton Athletic
- 2:55in a six goal thriller in the historyan Premier Division. So he changes with
- 3:00Folks and coming into this game. Addi Cole, Louis Collins and John the
- 3:04Babio all dropped out of the team, with Toby Byron, Eddie Alsop and
- 3:07David Smith coming into the eleven. There was a familiar face on the bench
- 3:10for car Sharlton Athletic this afternoon as Ibrahim Alatade lined up for Carl Schulton,
- 3:15hoping to come back and haunt his former side. It was an end to
- 3:19end start to the game and Folkson got on the score sheet first. After
- 3:22ready Ulsop picked the pocket of his man high up the pitch, got out
- 3:24to the byline whipped it in. It's a magnificent bit of quality from Eddie
- 3:28Alsop and Sadie's Snogo was there to turn it into the back of the net.
- 3:31So just nine minutes on the clock it was focused on one Carl Scharlton
- 3:34Athletic nil. However, Folkson's lead was short lived as cars Schulton cooked up
- 3:38for replies. Straight away the ball came in from the left hand side of
- 3:42the air and Babajide was there to nod it past Joe Coleman from just six
- 3:46yards out and with ten minutes on the clock it was focusing in it to
- 3:49one car Schultzen Athletic one. The game really continued to deliver from there.
- 3:53This time it was Carl Schulton who had a corner from the left hand side.
- 3:55It was whipped in towards the near post. Babagie Day there to get
- 4:00the flick on on it and Luke Reid was there at the far post to
- 4:03turn it in and seventeen minutes gone it was Carl Shulton too. Folkson won,
- 4:08but this time it's Folkson's turn to cook up a reply, for after
- 4:12just two minutes the ball was launched high up in the air from the back
- 4:14and before it got a chance to hit the deck, Tom Derry was there
- 4:16to get that magnificent head on the end of it and turn it in to
- 4:19the far left corner. A goalkeeper had no chance and it's folksing too.
- 4:24Carl Schulton too. Folkston carried on pushing for the rest of the second half
- 4:28and it took them twenty minutes before lower in front again. The ball made
- 4:30its way out to the left hawn side for Toby Byron who for the first
- 4:32time in the game got his delivery and off his left book swung it in
- 4:36from the far left hand side and Tom Derry was there again, a bullet
- 4:40header rising from the far post and Folkson had the lead for the first time
- 4:44in the game and they kept that until half time. So at half time
- 4:46it was Folksing it to three cars Shulton Athletic two. It was a quiet
- 4:50start to the second half, but on sixty three minutes Ibraham Molatade came on
- 4:55for Sewn O'Brien to return to the Alkali Stadium. It took him just fifteen
- 4:59minutes to get involved. With the seventy ninth minute, Ibbs was released on
- 5:01the right hand side for Carl Schulton got the ball right out to the touch
- 5:03line and put it on a plate for Babajida to double his tally for the
- 5:08day and it's Folksing free, Carl Schulton Athletic free. The drama wasn't there
- 5:13on there though, as Tom Derry on the eighty second minute came flying in
- 5:16on the halfway line put in what looked like a good challenge show around the
- 5:19ground, but the referee took an exception to it and he cautioned Tom Derry,
- 5:24to which the folks and bench weren't happy. Andy Drury, Chris Lynch
- 5:27and Andy Morris were all surrounding the referee on the touchline and Andy Dury obviously
- 5:30said something to upset our match referee and he was showing a straight red on
- 5:35the eighty second minute until they had the game just edged out. Addie Carle
- 5:39replaced Eddie Allsop on eighty eight and I Met Everett replaced Quacku Frimpong for carl
- 5:44Schulton on ninety But that was all from the Arkline Stadium. An action pack
- 5:47game, a thrilling game, folks, and returned to action on Tuesday as
- 5:50they entertained top of the league corn Church with a recently appointed manager, but
- 5:56full time here folksing victor three cars Schulton Athletic free Charlie Prescott from the Ourchlives
- 6:00Stadium had a big thank you there to Charlie. I was at that game
- 6:04and it was NonStop six goals, so stand off and get six goals down
- 6:08to the Alkaline. But yeah, it was a good it was a good
- 6:10point I think anyway. Now I unfortunately the game that Charlie mentioned that was
- 6:15on Tuesday night they lost too Neil to horn Church who are top of the
- 6:18league. So this Saturday is another tough fixture when they travel away to biller
- 6:25Rickey who are third in the table. Now staying with folksed in Victor last
- 6:29night, we've got to give congratulations to the in Victor youth side who beat
- 6:32Chathamtown in the Kent Intermediate Cup quarterfinals by three goals to one under the Guy
- 6:39under the guidance of a former guest of the show, Paul Stanton. So
- 6:42once we find out the fixtures for the Semis and we'll let you know.
- 6:46Now. At Reachfield's last Saturday, both sides miss chances in the high versus
- 6:49seven oas game, the score ending Neil Neil and on Tuesday evening the game
- 6:54has postponed against Herne Bay due to the pitch being waterlogged. The Saturday,
- 6:58as they start to play catch up with fixtures, they face a really tough
- 7:00home game against Ramsgate who hold the top spot in the in the table eight
- 7:04points clear of Cray Valley HOI are currently in twelve spot, having played five
- 7:11league games less than the Rams. Hawkings Town had a fine four and I'll
- 7:15win against Kent United and that meant they had to go up to Dartford for
- 7:19that, Goals coming from Teddy Nelson and Max Cooper, with Keny with one
- 7:25apiece and Luke Reeve who scored twice. Man of the match going to Josh
- 7:29Hastings. This week's the Hawks travel to Eeriff to take on Haul's AFC in
- 7:33the big top of the table clash. Both teams level and forty five points,
- 7:38but Hawls have a game in hand, so I should definitely be looking
- 7:41out for this result. Time rebing of music now and we're gonna have some
- 7:46Beg's Now and Night Fever. Well, a couple of great songs there from
- 7:55the seventies BG's Night Fever seventy seven and Dan Hartman Instant Replay eight and first
- 8:03of alle must say that unfortunately I haven't got any guests in today. I
- 8:07think I've just about interviewed everybody in folks and where it comes to sport,
- 8:11so I'm after start going around again. But a bit of a lean week
- 8:13this week, so I do apologize. I'll try and get somebody in for
- 8:16next week. But a little like it does, it pops up on social
- 8:20media pages, and ah, there was a thing popped up about Celine Dion.
- 8:26Now we don't play much of her on Academy of FM, and I
- 8:30mean, there's she's there's nothing to her, is there. She's a waif
- 8:33of a woman, very thin and her exit looking, but such a powerful
- 8:37voice. Now sadly she's suffering from a thing called stiff person's syndrome, which
- 8:43is is a disease that there's no cure for it. They just got to
- 8:46contain it, you know, and nurture it. And it makes all the
- 8:50middle muscles in your body and your torso that go really really solid, and
- 8:56they're in chronic pain. And I don't know whether she'll ever actually be out
- 9:00on the road again. It is such a shame. But she's god such
- 9:03a powerful voice. She'd be remembered obviously for the song about the Titanic,
- 9:07but I found this one on the system and I think it really deserves the
- 9:11place. When I was young, Celene de on there. How can so
- 9:22much noise come out of such a little person's hope she gets well soon and
- 9:28it's back on the road. Okay, if you just tuned it in and
- 9:31wondering what's going on, this is Kevin Day and the Folks then a hive
- 9:35sports show. Unfortunately I haven't got any guests in this week, which means
- 9:37I'll be playing a bit more music and woffling on a little bit more than
- 9:41usual, So please stay tuned and you might learn something you never know.
- 9:46Switching back to local sport, now it's time for some news from the Folks
- 9:50and Rugby Club where they fielded three teams last Saturday. The first fifteen were
- 9:54away, so I go in Gravesend where they beat them fifty two points to
- 9:58sixteen, setting up a massive game against park House who traveled down from Bromley.
- 10:03Now, the playing record of these two teams is practically identical as they
- 10:07have both played sixteen one thirteen, drawn neil and lost three and both teams
- 10:13are on sixty three points. Folkstone are just ahead in the league table due
- 10:18to a better points difference. So do you know what, I'm going to
- 10:20really try and get down there and what's that game? It sounds like it's
- 10:24a really juicy fixture and the one to look forward to. The second team
- 10:28lost at home to top of the table Rya by thirty nine points to seven,
- 10:33keeping Ryan at the top of the table whilst Folkston are in fourth place.
- 10:37This week they are a way to East Peckham and Paddockwood. The third
- 10:41suffered the heavy defeat against Dover by forty points to nil. This week they
- 10:45are at homes of Deal and Betsanger. The Ladies, who are third in
- 10:48the league, are with twenty four points visit Uckfield on Sunday who are top,
- 10:52but only four points separate the sides, so it should be a close
- 10:54game. And it's a weekend of several youth team games. The under tens
- 11:01and under elevens away at Whitstable, the under twelve Spitfires are at home to
- 11:05Blackheath and the under twelve Hurricanes are at home to Tunbridge Wells. The under
- 11:09thirteens are at home to Lordswood and the under fourteens are away at Seven Oaks.
- 11:15So it's a great following for the youngsters down there and it's really really
- 11:18good to see. If your youngster wants to try rugby then they're just get
- 11:22in touch now for further information on the both senior and junior fixtures. Please
- 11:28visit the Folks and Rugby Club facebook page. Okay, on to some music,
- 11:33man, and this one is red Box, and it's a song called
- 11:35Lean on Me Billy Joel, Tell her about it. Now, did you
- 11:50know that Billy Joel concerts, certainly in America. He likes to keep the
- 11:54front rows empty. You know what he does. He gets the dorman and
- 11:56people like that to round up the homeless people and get them in and come
- 12:00and listen to the concert. Well, a great idea. Okay, time
- 12:05to get back to sport and this time it's basketball now. News from the
- 12:09folks in Saints Basketball Club. The under twelves continue their unbeaten run after a
- 12:13fifty two to forty three victory over Brighton Bears. The Twelves are top after
- 12:18eight games and eight victories. That this was a tough close game against the
- 12:20Bears because the Bears are in second place, so world done to the Twelves.
- 12:24The folks in the Academy Under nineteens find themselves in the final of the
- 12:28Kent School's Cup after beating North School from Ashford, also in a close game
- 12:33by forty nine points to forty four. Now, the week before they didn't
- 12:37seem to be many games played, so the players were put to the test
- 12:39to learn what it's like to be on the scoring table and possibly to be
- 12:43like a ref. It was back to the classroom, learning the rules and
- 12:48regulations of the game. Now, I think this is a great idea.
- 12:52Every game, every game, you know, the youngsters as they grow up
- 12:54should know the rules, and it's nice to just give them a little test.
- 12:58It's a great idea, you know. And because you learn, make
- 13:01them learn understand and you know what I mean. Some of the Premier Division
- 13:05footballers could do with some of that, isn't they do You think some of
- 13:09them know the rules? They seem to know better than the ref sometimes,
- 13:11don't they. Wheelchair Basketball News Ben and Becky Potter would like to thank everybody
- 13:16who came to their fundraising quiz for the Folks and Arrows. They raised a
- 13:20magnificent four hundred and thirty one pound which will help to continue to keep wheelchair
- 13:24basketball alive in the community. They don't forget you can give it a go
- 13:28when they don't have a match. They train on a Saturday at the Folks
- 13:31and Sports Center, so please go to their Facebook page to check all the
- 13:35details. Now their next fixture is at home to Hampshire Harriers, who will
- 13:41travel up from Southampton to the Sports Center on the seventeenth of February. Now,
- 13:46I last night sitting in front of the telly, having my daily digestive
- 13:50of Heartbeat. You know, I love it when the sixties the songs come
- 13:54on. And one song came on and I thought, oh, I've got
- 13:58to play this. You know. The story sort of went like they're all
- 14:01farmers around there up in Yorkshire, and the story went about a jealous farmer
- 14:07husband and he he was getting really on top of him, and what does
- 14:11he do? He go and gets his shotgun and then the next thing you
- 14:15know, this song is playing. What a powerful song there from Jimmy Hendrix.
- 14:33Need us to say in Heartbeat, no one got shot Constall Rowan's got
- 14:37there in time and saved everybody head time for some sport. Now it's a
- 14:46hockey readout Now news from the folks in Optimius Hockey Club. Last week they
- 14:50fielded eleven sides. The men's fifteen were without a game, so some of
- 14:54it all up we have where they played eleven they won, six lost four
- 15:00drew one. There was goals four, tally was twenty four and goals against
- 15:05was ten, so over half the size, winning with an excellent goal difference
- 15:09thanks to a fine A nine nil win by the men's six team over Ashford
- 15:13Crusaders with goals coming from Alfie Ball, Theo Coombs and Steve Rowe, who
- 15:18all scored twice, then won a piece from Harry Row, Jude File and
- 15:22Daryl Gillham Jones. The men's first lost two ones of Eastbourne, the second
- 15:26beat Sitting Born. Both goals come in from Josh Bunzio. The third beat
- 15:31Deal three nil, the fourth team beat Old Williamsnian's one nil, and the
- 15:35seventh team drew nil Neil with seven Oaks. The ladies first team lost one
- 15:41nil to seven Oaks, the seconds lost three nil to South Saxons, the
- 15:45third beat Case Sports two nil, and the fourth team lost to a BBHC.
- 15:50That's Bexley Heath and Belvedere. They lost two to one. It always
- 15:54throws me out that bbh C. I'll explain in a minute. And the
- 15:58fifteen march on the four one win over the Old Williamsonians. That's goal shared
- 16:03out between Phoebe Norman, Beca Shaw, Wendy Blackwell and Emily Gainsford, keeping
- 16:08them top of the table. Twelve game scheduled once again this week. The
- 16:12men's versare away to Ashford, Ladies First are at home to Bromley and Beckenham.
- 16:18Sorry the Ladies first are at homes of Bromley and Beckenham are so confusing,
- 16:22That is the other BBAC and the Ladies fifteen are at home to University
- 16:27of Kent and we haven't finished yet. This has got to be worth a
- 16:32mention. The Ops under twelve boys played in an invitational tournament in Canterbury recently.
- 16:37They played against seven teams. They played against Ashford, Tunbridge, Wells,
- 16:41Epsom, Seven Oaks, Noel Park, Surbiton and Canterbury and how do
- 16:47you think they get on? Well, they only win and beat all of
- 16:49them. They'd be all the seven teams and given them victory and brought them
- 16:55home to trophy. So a massive well done to the under twelve players there
- 16:57and a big thank you to the co which is and families for their support.
- 17:02Now can you imagine how they felt they'd beaten six teams and it looks
- 17:04like they were on their way to lift a trophy and they go into that
- 17:07seventh game and that seventh game against Canterbury, but obviously they did the business
- 17:14and wow, that is the team for the future. So a big thanks
- 17:17to former guests to the show Amy for sending in all those reports there at
- 17:22time. Was the music and this is from Touch and Go and it's called
- 17:25Wooda. I've noticed you're around. They we go from the sixties there.
- 17:37The holly is just want to look the songs from sixties, you know,
- 17:40they were a lot shorter, and it's a bit of a conundrum actually when
- 17:44you're trying to play these songs, you get something like that Jimmy Hendrix was
- 17:48nearly four minutes and you get a sixties song and it's just about two minutes.
- 17:53Oh yeah, I was just right. I'm sorry, I was miles
- 17:56way there. I'm just trying to think of We were talking about relating in
- 18:00songs to somewhere where you've been, something that sticks in your mind straight away.
- 18:04Well, this song will take me back to my youth when I had
- 18:07the first taste of fair grounds, if you like, and you know in
- 18:11the fair used to turn up on the weekend and wait till he's dark.
- 18:17And all the noise and the songs pounding out and something as you're growing up,
- 18:23it was like something that really stuck in my mind. And this song
- 18:26will forever stick in my mind every time I see a dodging car or a
- 18:33Worlitzer thing. See you after the news, Sweet Welcome back to the second
- 18:49hour of the Folks on the High Sports show. This is Kevin Day the
- 18:53Sports for Folks and here on one o five point nine Academy FM. Unfortunately,
- 19:00we haven't got any guests in today, so it's me just playing a
- 19:03bit of extra music and waffling on about I don't know anything really that pings
- 19:10into my mind when I look at these songs. I'm just trying to relate
- 19:12them to something that's happened in my life and it's very important. So if
- 19:18you've got a special song that you played on Academy FM and it relates instantly
- 19:23to some exports EA, and we've moved the goalpost a little bit and it
- 19:26could be anything, then let me know. Now, coming up in this
- 19:32hour of the show, we've got news because it's half term soon, isn't
- 19:34it. Does it come rend quick or what? After we got news on
- 19:40half term kids camps. We've got some news. They've got a little roundup
- 19:44of the Saltwood Boxing Day run and where what happened when the money raised and
- 19:48where it went to. Our guest last week was Terry Hardy. He told
- 19:53us all about the Denny Cup folks on the Indoor Bowl Center, and so
- 19:59we're be telling you how they got on. Quite a little bit of cross
- 20:02country news. And we've got a bit of special news to finish off with
- 20:07two special special ladies. We put ourselves to the test. They completed a
- 20:14January challenge, so we're going to be telling you about that. In the
- 20:19meantime is a really really short song one minute fifty seven seconds from the Beach
- 20:26Boys, and then it'd be a little bit of local music and I apologized
- 20:41to you local music there from Katie Winty called a Waitless and the Waiting.
- 20:49Okay, So half term is around the corner already, and it just seems
- 20:53like, yeah, Christmas the other day, isn't it? But it is
- 20:56here in a week or so's time, and all the sports camps have been
- 21:00getting their act together. So I'm going to whip you through the ones that
- 21:03I've found. I'm sure there are some more out there, but pin Eury

- 23:18do some sport. But further details of all this please visit the Facebook pages.
- 23:23That's the Next Generation Coaching, Elite Community Coaching, Three Hill Sports Park,
- 23:30the Saints Basketball, Folkstone and the Folks and Sports Center. So coming
- 23:34up now, we've got a bit of the Jackson five and I'll be there
- 23:47Banana Rama there. Well I nineteen eighty four. You remember them, them
- 23:52three spiky head girls and think they got away with murder? Really didn't they?
- 23:57Okay, so we're talking about music related songs. You know something that
- 24:03just you hear the song and it takes you back. You're there straight away.
- 24:07It might be happy and for some people to be fair, and it
- 24:10does to me. It takes you back to a funeral, very poignant when
- 24:14they played that last song, and that does really really stick in your mind,
- 24:18doesn't it. Now? Back in the day, I went to Canada
- 24:22and I got on a jumbo jet for the very first time, and I
- 24:29couldn't believe that there was upstairs on an aeroplane. All right, so it
- 24:33was a tiny, tiny spiral staircase, but upstairs on an aeroplane, what's
- 24:37that all about? So I settled down and enjoyed the fly eight hours.
- 24:42We went to Canada, went to Niagara Falls, went to up the Sea
- 24:48nd Tower and there's a little bit in the Sea End Tower. You can
- 24:51pay a bit extra and go up, and it's got a glass bottom.
- 24:55It was like iconic in them days. There's lots more of those sort of
- 24:57platforms around these days. But oh my word. So for I've come all
- 25:02this way off here around the world, I've got to do it. And
- 25:04we got in with this family. There's myself and my colleague. Actually we
- 25:07both used to play football together. He was called Kevin as well, and
- 25:11he was Irish. And people used to think that I was a Cockney come
- 25:15from London and knew everybody in London. So I played on it a bit,
- 25:18I must admit. And we got in with this toe in toe with
- 25:22this family, and they said about taking us to the lakes. Yeah,
- 25:27yeah, we're going to the going for the weekend. We go up to
- 25:30the lakes. We take you with us. So we got to these lakes
- 25:33and there's me looking across to see if I could see the other side.
- 25:37It was actually Lake Ontario. When I got home, I looked at it
- 25:41on a map and it's as big as a great Britain and they call it
- 25:44a lake. Anyway, the song that was played when I was on this
- 25:48jumbo chat, I put the headphones on and cranked it up loud, and
- 25:53the quality was something like I'd never ever heard before. You're talking about back
- 25:57in the day of cassette tape and things like that. You know where the
- 26:02quality was. We just thought it was great. But when I heard this
- 26:04song over with the headphones on and I just turned it up loud, it
- 26:11always reminds me of my first trip in a jumbo jet. But I went
- 26:15to Canada. I just love that track. I was there on the airplane,
- 26:36headphones on, music up loud, not care in the world, and
- 26:41you know there's a I've got a home somewhere. I've got a CD with
- 26:45a They've got a seven minute version of that and it's great. I mean,
- 26:48you must do this. Come on own up. You can get your
- 26:49favorite track in the kitchen when you're getting getting a meal ready. You know,
- 26:55you have a little glass of wine and you're there, You're floating around
- 26:57the kitchen and you're singing along, thinking you sound like the artists. You
- 27:02don't sund like them a bit, do you? Well? We better get
- 27:04on with some sport. That's what we're here for. This is Kevin sports
- 27:07her at Daily on one oh five point nine Academy FM. And we're digressing
- 27:11a little bit today because we've got no guests in. Unfortunately, everyone's so
- 27:15busy, and I think I've interviewed everybody in folks and has got anything to
- 27:18do with sport. So we might have to go around again, as I
- 27:21said earlier. And but what we're going to do now is talk about the
- 27:26Saltwood Boxing Day Run. Now it seems like ages ago, but last year
- 27:30the Saltwood Boxing Day Run was staged for the forty seventh time. It attracted
- 27:33over eight hundred runners. And during the week I was chatting with race director
- 27:37Greg Boorman. He told me that nearly five thousand pounds was donated to charity,
- 27:42not all one charity. It was shared between two seven hundred and fifty
- 27:47pounds for motor neurone disease, one thousand pounds for the local village church.
- 27:51And on the day, actually to be fair, the local reverend and his
- 27:53wife came along. He started the race and she she ran it. Actually
- 27:59there seven hundred and fifty pounds for McMillan Cancer and two hundred and fifty pounds
- 28:03for the Channel Rotary who I think the Channel Rotary are going to distribute that
- 28:07towards the local charities that they support now. They also managed to hold back
- 28:11two hundred and fifty quid which is to kickstart the next event in twenty twenty
- 28:15four. Greg Greg wanted to say that over the years, motor neurone disease
- 28:21have benefited by forty five thousand pounds from this event and the toll raise since
- 28:26the run has begun. It's getting on for and listen to this sit down
- 28:30because this is a massive figure of three hundred thousand pound. Greg also wanted
- 28:36to thank the sponsors for their help. That's the main sponsor's Jenners, the
- 28:40Prince of Wales Pub in Palmash, Channel Rotary folks and Printing and I want
- 28:45to thank all the volunteers on the day who made it so much fun and
- 28:48without their help, which couldn't put these races on. Now, last,
- 28:52but not least, we've got to say a big thank you to the man
- 28:53himself, Greg Boorman. Now he's from the Trophy Shop in Hive and he
- 28:59donates all the men he goes out in the morning, he checks and he
- 29:02marks out the course and he deals with anything else that comes his way on
- 29:06the day. And of course a big thank you to everybody who ran or
- 29:10supported on the day. It really was a buzzy, productive morning raising money
- 29:14for good causes. And if you've never done it before, and I mean
- 29:18it's always a tough call between the Dip and these Saltwood Boxing Day Run,
- 29:22but the last couple of years the place has been absolutely packed. I see
- 29:26him crossing the line. I'm on the mic and there's so many happy,
- 29:30smiley faces, all ages, kids, families out, some people that have
- 29:33come down for Christmas from Yorkshire or somewhere are hoping for a quiet Christmas get
- 29:37dragged out and do the Seal Word Boxing Day Run. It really is a
- 29:41fantastic event and it's nice to hear that these charities are benefiting. That's all
- 29:47that fun and all that money raised goes to a good course. Right,
- 29:51Okay, time for a bit of music now are Brian Adams here we go,
- 29:55Academy EVM, the Folkston and Hide Squads podcast, Local sport across the
- 30:00District, The Switch Old music from the sixties. Oh there's some great music
- 30:12in this show today. There really is that was actually in the playlist.
- 30:15I must have meant to slipping one or two extras in the playlist here because
- 30:19we had no guests. But so that was cracking. I've heard that for
- 30:22a long time now. Last week we're talking about the Denny Cup, now
- 30:26Denny Cup. Last week our guest Terry Hardy from the Folks Indoor Balls Club
- 30:30sold us about their team that has reached the quarterfinals of the Denny Cup,
- 30:34which is a national competition, sadly focused and lost by eighty five points to
- 30:38fifty four, but are very proud to have reached the quarter final stage.
- 30:42And there was kind of a little bit upset with themselves because they don't think
- 30:47they performed as well as they could have done. Now, the side they
- 30:49played against was a Turkey and they did have three regular national players in their
- 30:55lineups and so they are a very strong side. However, one of the
- 30:59top players who won the men's World Championships at Potters last year. Now Potters
- 31:03is like the equivalent of Wembley's to football rugby is to Twickenham, and so
- 31:10that player he was actually beaten by the Folkston four that came made up of
- 31:14youngsters playing against them, So well done to the youngsters. I mean,
- 31:17what a great experience that must have been up against really top international players.
- 31:21So sad news for the team, but they got to the quarterfinals. Something
- 31:25to be proud of. And thanks for that report their terry and keep me
- 31:30up today as I'm sure you'll be going again next year. Time for a
- 31:33bit of cross country news now. Two members of South Kent Harriers took part
- 31:37in the Southern Cross Country Championships at Beckenham last weekend, Darren Scrivens and Max
- 31:41Hamilton. Andrew Darren ran a good race, finish in five minutes faster than
- 31:47last year in fifty seven minutes thirty nine seconds. Oh and by the way,
- 31:51it was a nine mile course but the runners thought it was half a
- 31:53mile short and Max runs sixty two to twenty nine despite losing a shoe in
- 31:57the mud which he reckoned cost him about five minutes. And we got another
- 32:02story here. There's a lady there that took her a little holiday right across
- 32:07the other side of the world. She ran a half marathon in much nicer
- 32:14conditions whilst she was on holiday. She completed the Marrakesh half marathon in twenty
- 32:21degrees of heat in a time of one hour fifty five minutes. And that
- 32:23was Rebecca Young. Now what we're going to do is, once again we're
- 32:28talking about places that straight away spring to mind, now, the Marrakesh experience.
- 32:35I just immediately thought of this song. Well, what a great track,
- 32:47just to remind Rebecca Young. That's for you, Rebecca, to remind
- 32:51you of the Marrakesh half marathon. Once again, another tenuous link. You
- 32:54know, I hadn't heard the word Marrakesh for ages. Then the Rebecca runs
- 32:59in the half marathon. Bang, this is a song pops right up into
- 33:02my head. Now, if it happens to you, if you're out and
- 33:05about and there's a tenuous link to a song, then why don't you just
- 33:08send me a little message and we'll see if we can find it. As
- 33:12you said before, it could be a sporting event, it could be anything.
- 33:15It could be somewhere where you've been on holiday. That's normally the songs,
- 33:20isn't it. You know when you've been on holiday and they play something
- 33:23and as soon as you get home you want to hear that song and then
- 33:27you forget all about it. And perhaps a year later picking it pops up.
- 33:30So if you've got a link to a tenuous link to a song,
- 33:35then just let me know right this is a lovely song as well, which
- 33:37I do really really like this one. This is by Cheryl Crow and it's
- 33:40a change. Will do you get Cheryl Crow? There had a change is
- 33:55going to do a good right now, I must give us special mention to
- 34:00two folks and ladies who, during January set and completed their own personal challenge
- 34:07and should be an inspiration to us all. Now. Fiona Stanton chalked up
- 34:12and listened to this four hundred and eighty two thousand, five hundred and eighty
- 34:16steps in the month of January, raising money for a motor neurone disease in
- 34:21memory of her husband Mark. Now, Mark was a local, really top
- 34:23local footballer and he was well respected in the town and I remember playing him
- 34:30against him several times. It used to be on a Tuesday night on the
- 34:32original AstroTurf, which was like a stone beach. It really was solid.
- 34:37But I was played right back and it wasn't fair. You always used to
- 34:42play left wing and I'd see him coming and there was a puff of wind
- 34:45and he'd be passed me and a board be in the net. But anyway,
- 34:50well down to you, Fiona. Fifteen thousand steps a day that was
- 34:53really really good. And let's face it, the weather wasn't particularly nice in
- 34:57January, was it. So a very special pat on the back to you.
- 35:00Now. Imaging Island committed herself to thirty one minutes of exercise during the
- 35:05thirty one days of January and she finished off with a ten k run that
- 35:08lasted ninety minutes, so it just goes to show you how much she improved.
- 35:13Imagen was raising money for Crones and Colitis UK to raise awareness and help
- 35:17a family member. These two ladies have shown us that you can step outside
- 35:22the box and do something special, something we should all do once in a
- 35:24while, so massive well done to Fiona and Imaging there. We should all
- 35:30follow their example and just you know, do something a little bit different to
- 35:32help other people. So well done. Okay, so we've got a Livy's
- 35:37Gus guest. Where is this hour gone? Its like two hours supposed to
- 35:40be sport. It's nearly all me talking about live songs that I can remember
- 35:45back in the day. But it's been great fun. I might stop inviting
- 35:49guests in. I've really enjoyed it so much. We got living in a
- 35:52box now by living in a box, bok this morning to be another can't
- 36:15do it a new resistance as a body someone's doing. I'm morning to the
- 36:34door with one. I'm living in a car, I'm living in a bus,
- 36:44I'm in a card. I'm saying a bus lack bow and circles obel
- 36:58and wonder what I'm the door, the com com com on, come on,
- 37:58come on, come on, come on, come on, come on,
- 38:19come on the box, come on, come on. I'm come on,
- 38:35come on, come on, come on. Living in a box there
- 38:52from living in a books and as we play a bit of Elton John.
- 39:01That's it for me this week. I'm hoping to go to Rugby on Saturday.
- 39:07You watch folks all first of February already today? Did you manage to
- 39:15dry January? I did? Wasn't a problem, dry gin, dry martini,
- 39:20dry white wine, nothing to it. Got a fixture that you might
- 39:24be interested in, shefferld Wednesday playing Coventry on Tuesday, the sixth of February.
- 39:31They're the ones that will play Maidstone. So it's not on the Telly,
- 39:37So I expect a contingent will go up and be interesting because they'd have
- 39:42to watch both sides. Weren't they keep an eye on both sides find their
- 39:45weaknesses. Now? Is that Sunday? Sunday I'll be at Bedgbury on the
- 39:54MIC as a run out of the Forestry Commission. Lovely, lovely place is
- 39:59normally Fulham. Anyway, That's it for me this week. I have a
- 40:01great weekend and I'll see you all next time.
