- 0:21We've got you covered with up to date F1 News delivered at full throttle.
- 0:25Strap in because the lights are out and we're underway.
- 0:28This is formula fanatics.
- 0:40Oh, formula one, you know?
- 0:42Hey Brad, I know how much you don't like the name of this new segment that we have
- 0:46here, but we are still in time to call it.
- 0:49What the F1?
- 0:50I think there's already something called what?
- 0:52The F1.
- 0:54Well, that's what this season is shaping up.
- 0:56The be What?
- 0:56The F1.
- 0:57What is going on?
- 0:58Ah.
- 1:02It's exciting, but it's not.
- 1:04But it is.
- 1:05But it isn't.
- 1:05It's fake.
- 1:06It's fake excitement, right?
- 1:08Just like the fake turbo boost mushroom.
- 1:11Here we go.
- 1:12Here we go.
- 1:12Woo-hoo.
- 1:14That is Formula One.
- 1:15It's Mario Kart.
- 1:16It's ridiculous.
- 1:18It is stupid.
- 1:20Like just.
- 1:21But awesome at the same time.
- 1:22I don't know.
- 1:23Why is it awesome?
- 1:24I, I, I don't know why, I mean, convincing.
- 1:27The only thing that's awesome about it is Ferrari's doing really well.
- 1:30Yes, yes.
- 1:31That's awesome.
- 1:33Red Bull is having some struggles, which is awesome to see just for
- 1:39a change of like scenery, McLaren, where the, where is McLaren?
- 1:44Dude, I don't know what McLaren is up to, but I can say that big popup papaya,
- 1:50Zach Brown was just named membership chairman of the I-M-R-O-C for 2026.
- 1:55Cool.
- 1:55Good for him.
- 1:56Congratulations.
- 1:57So maybe he's busy doing that.
- 1:58I don't know.
- 1:59He has not been on camera at all, by the way.
- 2:01Nope.
- 2:02They don't show him at all.
- 2:03But let's kind of start at the beginning since you're going there
- 2:05talking about how the teams are doing.
- 2:07By the time people listen to this, Suzuka will be over, but we don't know about
- 2:12it yet because we're just in front of it and you know, the whole nine yards.
- 2:14So we'll talk about Suzuka and maybe we'll do some predictions as we wrap
- 2:18out this episode of Formula Fanatics.
- 2:20Let's start with ESPN's predictions for the year, because they published
- 2:23those almost just before the Australia race, and I thought it was really funny.
- 2:27They predicted Audi would finish seventh in constructors this year.
- 2:32Okay.
- 2:33After the first two races, I'm like, maybe, maybe, maybe.
- 2:37But they are saying Mercedes one, Ferrari two, McLaren three, red Bull,
- 2:41four Haas fifth in Constructors, then Alpine Audi Racing Bulls,
- 2:46Williams Cadillac, and Aston Martin.
- 2:47As it stands right now with two races done.
- 2:52Audi is eighth, so this isn't too far off, and Haas has been doing pretty well.
- 2:57ESPN is also bullish on Audi, which I think was a misprint.
- 3:01I think it's bullshit on Audi.
- 3:04I just, yeah, I, no, uh.
- 3:08I, I, I don't think, I just don't, I don't see it.
- 3:10Let's start with that.
- 3:11I know just like when we started drive through, we talked
- 3:13about Volkswagen, Audi News.
- 3:15We gotta talk about Audi because we can't talk about Cadillac.
- 3:19Well, where do you think they are?
- 3:21They're not last.
- 3:22No.
- 3:22You know, they're not last.
- 3:23Okay.
- 3:23We already configured that out after the first race to ask the Martin.
- 3:27Turd heap that has major problems.
- 3:30Yeah, they, they gotta do better than that.
- 3:32Nexus Cadillac.
- 3:34Where, where do they finish?
- 3:35They have to finish in front of Cadillac, but behind Williams.
- 3:39I think Williams is gonna turn it around at some point this season.
- 3:42They're gonna get their act together.
- 3:44Carlos hasn't done anything dumb.
- 3:46The problem I see with the Audi is the reliability issue,
- 3:49which they've suffered now.
- 3:51Border Leto didn't even start one of the races, and then Holgenburg had to retire
- 3:55early, so they're not getting any points.
- 3:57They, that's a zero right there.
- 3:59And even then, if only one of the drivers finishes, they're getting half of whatever
- 4:03pathetic points that they're able to get.
- 4:05If they can even get into the top 10, they have the same
- 4:07amount of points as Williams.
- 4:08Right now.
- 4:09I think Williams stands a better chance.
- 4:11They have the same amount of points as Williams who didn't retire cars.
- 4:15I mean, ah, it's only two races, so it's entirely too early
- 4:19to tell anything, honestly.
- 4:21But my spidey sense is telling me they're gonna be in the bottom three.
- 4:26They don't have the drivers.
- 4:28They don't have them.
- 4:29And the car is junk too.
- 4:31It's not the worst car.
- 4:33No, it's not.
- 4:34No.
- 4:34We know which one is.
- 4:37Well in that argument then Audi and Cadillac should automatically be 10
- 4:42and 11 because they are the new cars and everybody else has had cars.
- 4:48But then there's an argument to be had that everyone's
- 4:50cars are new because, right.
- 4:51These motors are completely different.
- 4:54Which is the problem Aston's having where their motor is trash.
- 4:59I think the problem that Aston is having.
- 5:01Is Aston and Adrian, just keep going down the list because I think the
- 5:06problem is the car was designed without the engine in mind or vice versa.
- 5:11'cause I've heard the argument both ways.
- 5:13Honda designed the engine without consulting with Adrian and Adrian
- 5:17didn't design the car around the motor.
- 5:19So that's why there's this discrepancy and why they don't work together
- 5:23and why it's not smooth, and why it's having all these problems and
- 5:26yada, yada, yada, yada, yada yada.
- 5:27Everybody's pointing fingers at everybody else.
- 5:29Well, yeah, they're doing the Scarecrow thing right from the Wizard of Oz, and
- 5:32the problem there is Big Daddy Warbucks.
- 5:35Is just sending money.
- 5:37It, it's like a rudderless ship, right?
- 5:39It's just sort of a drift.
- 5:40And then we hear through the winter that Adrian suddenly the team principal,
- 5:44he's a well-regarded F1 engineer, and then you put him in charge of a team
- 5:48and you're asking him to do two jobs.
- 5:50Now, is that his own arrogance or is that their inability that people just walked
- 5:56out and said, I'm not dealing with any of this crap, and maybe they're shorthanded.
- 5:59So what is it?
- 6:00What the heck is going on at Aston?
- 6:03Because if you ask Lance, you're not gonna get a straight answer.
- 6:05Have you seen these social media posts where they ask Lance his opinion?
- 6:09It's like, is he a buffo?
- 6:11He very well may be an idiot, very well, may be.
- 6:15However, it also very much felt like at the advice of my counsel, I'm
- 6:20pleading the fifth, that very, very much felt those were his answers too.
- 6:24Like I have been told to just say nothing.
- 6:26I know nothing.
- 6:27And therefore I shall tell you nothing.
- 6:30What do you want him to say?
- 6:31It was so cringe to watch like, oh my God.
- 6:35And Alonzo doesn't wanna talk to the press, obviously, and
- 6:37he, all he talks about is his, you know, apparent nerve damage.
- 6:42It's a really bad look because Honda, who went from having four
- 6:46world championships being the motor that was in the Red Bull, right.
- 6:49To suddenly be, oh, Honda's motors trash and it's gonna take two years to fix.
- 6:54But people have said that that was the same problem when they introduced the
- 6:57Honda at Red Bull too, where they went through some growing pains and apparently
- 7:01this was also true at McLaren at one point, but I don't understand then.
- 7:04So we, we lifted.
- 7:06Yes, Adrian Newey and Honda Motor to another mark.
- 7:11So it's still Adrian Newey with a Honda motor.
- 7:13So Adrian Newey doesn't understand a Honda motor and Honda doesn't understand what
- 7:18Adrian Newey is gonna do with a chassis.
- 7:20Where was the disconnect?
- 7:21Unless he decided to completely redesign the car and very well may have.
- 7:25And Honda said, here's the motor from the Red Bull.
- 7:28The way it was, you can have it and do whatever you want with it.
- 7:31It just doesn't match up for some reason.
- 7:33Although to your point, you think Adrian would know better having
- 7:36designed the Red Bull chassis, so I don't know what's going on over there
- 7:40other than they're doing very poorly.
- 7:42They don't know either.
- 7:43And now four months later, Adrian steps down this team
- 7:45principal back to lead engineer.
- 7:47What?
- 7:48Who knows?
- 7:49I don't know.
- 7:50It's like clockwork.
- 7:51These last two races, Brad, have you noticed they say.
- 7:54Alonzo can't go more than like 25 laps.
- 7:57And then apparently he has like core meltdown.
- 7:59Yeah.
- 7:59And the car like shakes itself apart and it, they make it to like maybe lap 22 and
- 8:03it's like retired out, gone like done.
- 8:07And I will say there have been more cars out.
- 8:10These past two races.
- 8:12Then there have been like, I think all last season, like it's insane the number
- 8:16of cars that are just basically falling apart or don't even start the race.
- 8:20So Audi's doing good then?
- 8:22Yeah.
- 8:22They only lose 50% of their cars instead of a hundred percent of their cars.
- 8:26So they're gonna be seventh and.
- 8:27And constructors.
- 8:29There you go.
- 8:29South division right in the middle.
- 8:31She's perfect.
- 8:31We just proved them right.
- 8:33Okay.
- 8:34Riddle me this Batman, Audi F1 boss, Jonathan Wheatley, is rumored
- 8:38to replace Adrian Newey at Aston.
- 8:40I don't know what, I don't know.
- 8:42He's only been on that job for what?
- 8:44Like a minute and now he's going to Aston.
- 8:46He's failing up.
- 8:48Yeah.
- 8:52Depends how big of a check Daddy Warbucks threw his way.
- 8:56Everybody's got a price.
- 8:57If you're the principal at Audi and you decide, decide to pack
- 9:01it up and go to the worst team in F1, what does that say about Audi?
- 9:06Do you read between the lines on that they're not paying enough?
- 9:09They don't have enough money.
- 9:10That's why they're, they're not selling any cars on the back end.
- 9:13My man, my man reading the tea leaves, I've been saying it.
- 9:17Sales are down at Volkswagen.
- 9:19They can't afford this.
- 9:21They're gonna make it one year and they're gonna have to pull
- 9:24out and it'll go back to Salur.
- 9:26Salur will find somebody else to sponsor the team course.
- 9:29She'll step in.
- 9:30Just kidding.
- 9:31Yeah.
- 9:31Yeah.
- 9:31Okay.
- 9:32It's the same bank account.
- 9:34It'll be, it'll be Hyundai.
- 9:35It'll be BYD.
- 9:37Oh my God.
- 9:38Ew.
- 9:38I heard about that too.
- 9:40Like whatever.
- 9:41So if Wheatley is leaving Audi, that means Egon is in charge
- 9:46at Audi right now, right?
- 9:47Beto?
- 9:48Yeah.
- 9:48That's unfortunate.
- 9:49This is why I say, you asked me earlier why I think Williams
- 9:53is gonna do better than Audi.
- 9:54This is why Williams is gonna do better than Audi.
- 9:57They've got the same drivers as last year.
- 9:59They basically got the same setup as last year.
- 10:02They're gonna do fine because they're just gonna be mediocre enough to be better
- 10:06than Cadillac, Audi and Aston Martin.
- 10:09Meanwhile, Haas is gonna pull ahead, I don't know, rumor on the street.
- 10:14Beerman might get a seat at Ferrari.
- 10:16Whose seat is he gonna take?
- 10:17Sorry?
- 10:17Whose seat?
- 10:18In Ferrari.
- 10:19I had read somewhere that he might get even a reserve spot at Ferrari.
- 10:23That's not a bad gig.
- 10:24Can you be a. Active driver of one team and a reserve driver of a another.
- 10:30Yeah.
- 10:30You have to quit Haas and go be the reserve driver just like BOTAs did where
- 10:34he was the reserve driver at Mercedes.
- 10:35BOTAs did that after 10 years already or whatever, being in Formula One,
- 10:40I think that would be monumentally stupid of Beerman after his second
- 10:45season to be like, all right, I'm gonna stop driving and be a reserve driver
- 10:49on the hopes that Louis or Charles.
- 10:51Moves on.
- 10:52Charles is gonna retire at Ferrari most likely.
- 10:55And Hamilton, God knows how long he's gonna keep going, especially
- 10:59if he does well this season.
- 11:00Yeah, yeah.
- 11:01He can snip it either way.
- 11:02For Lewis, he has a crap season and he leaves or he
- 11:06gets his eighth and he leaves.
- 11:08Yeah.
- 11:08But.
- 11:09Beerman doesn't need to become a reserve driver to be taken up by
- 11:12Ferrari if they so choose when the contracts come up for renewal at
- 11:15the funny season Towards the end.
- 11:18Yeah, they can just snipe him there.
- 11:20But let's just say they want Beerman or they take him on.
- 11:23If this rumor is no, they're not gonna take Beerman.
- 11:26Why would they take Beerman?
- 11:28Why would an Italian team take another British driver when they have a hot shot?
- 11:34Rising Italian rookie driver.
- 11:36Oh, Mercedes is never gonna let Antonelli go.
- 11:39Are you kidding me?
- 11:40For enough money, Toto will cut off all of his appendages before they give up.
- 11:46Kidding to Ferrari?
- 11:47No, because you know who Toto wants.
- 11:49Toto wants Max because Toto couldn't get Max.
- 11:53When Toto wanted.
- 11:54Max Maxwell retired before Toto gets him.
- 11:57I'm sorry.
- 11:57Max will make sure that that never happens.
- 12:00Max, if the Red Bull is a piece of crap.
- 12:02What does he care?
- 12:03He just wants to drive and win.
- 12:05He did an interview recently that I watched that he basically said, there's
- 12:09more to life than doing all this stuff.
- 12:11He goes, when I'm 70 years old, nobody's gonna care if I won four
- 12:14championships or five or seven.
- 12:17He goes, I want to go do other stuff.
- 12:18So he's outright, publicly saying.
- 12:21That he wants to go do other stuff, which is already evident in his GT three
- 12:25racing and Verta and this and the Berg ring and all that other kinda stuff.
- 12:29I see Verta exiting Formula One in the next couple.
- 12:33He's, he'll run out his contract at Red Bull because they're paying him
- 12:36and when it's over he's not coming back, which is another four years.
- 12:39I thought it was only like the 28.
- 12:41He has an eight year contract that started like forever ago.
- 12:45I thought it was 2028 and then he was done Maybe.
- 12:49A two more year Toto iss never gonna get him.
- 12:51It's never gonna happen.
- 12:52That's why they invested in Kimmy because they, that was the whole point that he
- 12:56wasn't gonna make the same mistake twice.
- 12:58Yeah.
- 12:58But it's Kimmy's choice to leave.
- 13:00I mean, yeah.
- 13:01I mean, not Totos, so an Italian driver's dream is going to be to drive for Ferrari.
- 13:07So if they give him the opportunity, it's his to leave toto in Mercedes.
- 13:12That's true.
- 13:14Beerman could be the second coming of Nigel Mantle for all we know.
- 13:17I know Hamilton's a Brit, but I'm just saying like there were other Brits
- 13:21that drove for Ferrari over the years.
- 13:23Yes.
- 13:24But how many Italians did a chance?
- 13:27Uh, yeah.
- 13:27I mean, how many Italians.
- 13:29Actually won it Ferrari though.
- 13:31It's, that's what I'm saying.
- 13:32How many stood a chance this antonelli is probably their best chance to have a,
- 13:36an Italian in an Italian car on podium.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:40They, they said the last time an Italian podium in a Ferrari was like Giancarlo or
- 13:45something like that, like 20 years ago.
- 13:47And it was like one time or something like that.
- 13:49I was like, okay, whatever.
- 13:51But to actually win the championship, the like last Italian to win the championship,
- 13:55I don't, I don't even know like, what was that, like aari or something
- 13:58like back in the, in the fifties.
- 14:00It's gotta be a long time ago.
- 14:02Mm-hmm.
- 14:03So anyway, there's a whole bunch of stuff shuffling going on.
- 14:07We're between the second and third race.
- 14:09And we're already shuffling the deck around and, and it's all this musical
- 14:12chairs that's already going on.
- 14:13But let's talk about Australia for a second.
- 14:26And Brad, to your point about the racing and how hokey it is, I
- 14:31guess is the word I want to use.
- 14:32You know, we have the new hurry up in coast Turbo, mushroom way of driving now.
- 14:37They said Australia 2025.
- 14:40Last year, if you remember that race, which was a little bit wet and there
- 14:43was some Alonzo crashed and some other people crashed, stuff like that.
- 14:4645 overtakes in that race last year.
- 14:50This year, 120.
- 14:52Overtakes, artificial, sorry, say those numbers again.
- 14:56There were 45 overtakes last year.
- 14:59In all of last year?
- 15:00No, no, no.
- 15:01In the Australian GP last year.
- 15:03Oh, thirty five, a hundred twenty this year.
- 15:05But it's all like back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.
- 15:08It's artificial.
- 15:09I don't know what to say about the racing.
- 15:12Yes.
- 15:13Is it more exciting when you see someone past someone Yes.
- 15:17To someone who doesn't understand what's going on?
- 15:20It can be more exciting.
- 15:22On what merit did they make the pass?
- 15:24Because like, oh, I passed him and it's like, okay, well wait 10 seconds.
- 15:28Oh yeah, I got repas again.
- 15:30So what was the point?
- 15:31They're taking the driving out of the driver's hands, you know, what was
- 15:35driving, not to overlap and segue, but we didn't cover it in the main section.
- 15:41What was driving and not mushrooms was the berg ring NLS two four hour race where
- 15:48verse tapin was glued at some points to the back of the Audi in his Mercedes.
- 15:54Had to work for the pass and be strategic, especially lapping
- 15:58other slower cars and everything.
- 16:00And then when makes a pass, it's like, damn, you know, good move.
- 16:04And there wasn't an immediate retaliation because, oh, he passed and now he's
- 16:10got 50 less horsepower and he's, you know, at the mercy of the Audi to
- 16:15turbo mushroom and go around them.
- 16:17What's more exciting?
- 16:18I don't know, because you watch them like laugh.
- 16:21I say lap after lap.
- 16:22The fucking burging is how many minute lap.
- 16:25So like, yeah, seven turn after turn.
- 16:27They're sitting there, you know, glued to each other.
- 16:29Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 16:31It's like, damn.
- 16:32To sustain that, that's called racing.
- 16:35I mean, he got more seat time in that race than he did.
- 16:38That it did so far this season in F1?
- 16:40Yeah.
- 16:40What we, what we see in F1 is not racing.
- 16:43If I think Eric has gotten to me, if somebody wants to win a race
- 16:48and overtake, build a better car.
- 16:51Yes, thank you.
- 16:52I've been saying it forever and that's why sports, car and endurance
- 16:56racing is so interesting because within the rules, they're still
- 17:00able to build whatever they want.
- 17:02So the Aston Martin Valkyrie with the V 12 or the Toyota with their hybrid
- 17:06setup and the Porsche with the Audi V eight that they were using it or
- 17:09whatever, and I'll, I'll get yelled at for that one by by my Porsche friends.
- 17:13But the point is they're still able to build within a spec, but it's not
- 17:17a spec series like Formula One is.
- 17:19But there's BOP.
- 17:21But here's the problem.
- 17:22If this catches on in Formula One, then it trickles down to other motorsport.
- 17:26And I would hate to see this show up in endurance racing, where now they're all
- 17:31hurry up and coast and hurry up and coast and pass, and pass and pass because to
- 17:36Tanya's point, they don't need it because there's already action in those races.
- 17:39Can you imagine Daytona?
- 17:41Like this, be travesty.
- 17:43This is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion, but you
- 17:46can correct me if I'm wrong.
- 17:47Some of the, the regulations and the rules and everything that they
- 17:50create are because some of the bigger teams, Ferrari, Mercedes, red Bull,
- 17:55they can afford to engineer anything.
- 18:00The other teams can't afford to do that and compete.
- 18:03Right.
- 18:03Well, my unpopular opinion is, well, if you can't afford to do that and compete,
- 18:07then you should not be in the race.
- 18:09You should not be competing.
- 18:10I, I agree with that.
- 18:11And if the field needs to get smaller, and if the field gets to the point where it's
- 18:15just Ferrari and McLaren and Red Bull and Mercedes, then maybe F1 shouldn't exist.
- 18:20Oh, you're going out there, make room for something else, or make room for
- 18:25other teams that can't afford it.
- 18:26Yeah.
- 18:27Is rich energy still out there?
- 18:30I'll always go back to that.
- 18:32There'll always be rumor.
- 18:33I mean, seriously.
- 18:33Why is a team like Williams still kicking around?
- 18:37You would've thought Williams would've emerged with somebody else
- 18:39and created a bigger powerhouse.
- 18:41It's almost like a, it, it's like, yeah, Williams are even like a, um, salur.
- 18:45It's like a, it is like a tradition thing, right?
- 18:48No.
- 18:48If you can't afford to be an F1 anymore, you can't afford to do it and compete.
- 18:53Without the rules hamstringing, the bigger teams, you can't afford to be
- 18:57there, which is the andretti argument.
- 18:59If you have the money to build a team and do it the way you wanna do it, and
- 19:03as long as you can pass tech, then do it.
- 19:06Like who cares?
- 19:07Who cares?
- 19:08Yeah, exactly.
- 19:09Exactly.
- 19:10F1 is a farce right now.
- 19:12It really is.
- 19:13And, and you know what's funny is there's mixed reviews from the fans,
- 19:15obviously on how exciting the racing is.
- 19:17But you listen to the drivers, whether it's Max, whether it's Perez, has been
- 19:22pretty outspoken about how it's a joke.
- 19:25And they need to change the series, and he's coming at it after a couple years
- 19:29of not being in the car with sort of, I hate to say fresh eyes, but veteran
- 19:33eyes and it's like, yeah, this is junk.
- 19:35Like they need to fix this because they're gonna lose the fans.
- 19:38They're gonna lose the drivers.
- 19:39People are just gonna be like, yeah, this is dumb.
- 19:41Why are we doing this?
- 19:42It's become a little bit too Formula E in some respects, right?
- 19:45I don't know if they're trying to bridge the gap.
- 19:47The, the, the announcers can only make it so exciting.
- 19:50The artificial graphics on the screen trying to cover
- 19:55up what's actually going on.
- 19:56Yeah.
- 19:57People are gonna catch on at some point and just like
- 20:00you're saying, stop watching.
- 20:01Well, and if we have to listen to Russell over the radio all the time.
- 20:04'cause he is in the front complaining about everybody behind them.
- 20:07I mean, you know, I'm gonna turn it off too.
- 20:09I don't even watch for who's at the front.
- 20:11I watch to find out exactly how long it takes Lance Stroll to get knocked out.
- 20:15You know?
- 20:16That is a fun little sub game.
- 20:18It's like a drinking, like a drinking game.
- 20:20Yeah.
- 20:20How many laps does Lance stroll get?
- 20:22Well, you, you know, it's 25.
- 20:24That's it.
- 20:24I mean, ASINs are good for 25 laps and then they're out if they even start.
- 20:29But does he make it 25?
- 20:30If they make it 25?
- 20:32I feel like the drinking game should be.
- 20:34You drink the number of drinks, which is the delta of the 25 laps and how
- 20:39many laps land stroll actually gets.
- 20:42Well, you know, they said that they weren't even gonna start in Australia.
- 20:46They were like just gonna park the cars.
- 20:47And they didn't.
- 20:48They actually started the race, but then they retired early, you
- 20:51know, and all that kind of stuff.
- 20:52But even Australia, Haja blew a motor.
- 20:55Kinberg didn't start border Leto did finish in the top 10.
- 21:00Ptri wrecked on the out lap.
- 21:02Like, what the hell?
- 21:04And the best part of Ptri wrecking on the out lab is they didn't show
- 21:08it until after the race was over.
- 21:09And then you saw it on social media where he like spun out and
- 21:13hit the wall and killed the car.
- 21:14But during the race, you are like, the hell's going on, they just mean pretend.
- 21:18It didn't even happen.
- 21:19You're just like, PTRI will not be starting the race.
- 21:21And you're like, uh, okay.
- 21:23So I think what I heard happened, if I remember correctly.
- 21:27Was he was overcharged on the battery.
- 21:31And so basically like he gunned it unintentionally.
- 21:34Turbo mushroomed.
- 21:35Yeah.
- 21:36Yeah.
- 21:36He basically, he hit the turbo mushroom button.
- 21:38Not knowing that the turbo mushroom was like the rapid one that like keeps going
- 21:43right for like 10 seconds and not just like the single room, the green one.
- 21:49And the sad part about that race about Australia was it came down
- 21:53to pit strategy for Ferrari.
- 21:55Yet again, they could have done a lot better than they did.
- 21:58They could have had that race, but instead they didn't split the cars
- 22:02under the virtual safety to keep one out and do that whole They did.
- 22:06It was a mess, and it's just like, here we go again.
- 22:09But what I did come away with in that race was I felt like maybe the Ferrari's
- 22:16were so bad last year because they were actually testing this year's car.
- 22:21And everybody's been brought down to their level.
- 22:23Now it's more of a level playing field.
- 22:25Because I noticed, did you, and I mentioned this to Tanya as we were
- 22:28watching you notice when they go for top speed on the long straightaways,
- 22:32like in Australia and stuff, and the car sort of peters out the same
- 22:35way as the Ferraris did last year.
- 22:37They hit that wall.
- 22:39There's like no more speed left in them.
- 22:40They're the kind of dog shit coming out of the corners, just
- 22:43like the Ferrari's were last year.
- 22:44And I'm like, I'm wondering if last year's car was a prototype for this year's car.
- 22:49And so if you put that lens, even if that's an artificial lens over
- 22:53it, you could say, wow, they did really good considering the car was
- 22:58not designed for last year's spec.
- 23:00You know what I mean?
- 23:01That kind of thing.
- 23:02So, I don't know, I, that's a little bit wishful thinking in,
- 23:04in retrospect, but still, I feel like the speeds have come down.
- 23:08The cars are slower than they were last year.
- 23:11Well, 'cause they're coasting.
- 23:12If they didn't have to coast, they'd put in faster times.
- 23:16So pathetic.
- 23:17It's like the, you know, the, the whole point of racing
- 23:19is to go as fast as you can.
- 23:21Not, not anymore.
- 23:22Hurry up and coast, hurry up and coast.
- 23:23And Ferrari would be doing better if Mercedes wasn't cheating.
- 23:26Did you hear about that?
- 23:28Why, why, why, what now?
- 23:30The compression thing again, we compressing the FI six seven.
- 23:34The FIA is investigating.
- 23:37Mercedes for illegal front wing closure.
- 23:40What?
- 23:41The wing's supposed to close within 400 milliseconds, and there's
- 23:44video footage of the Mercedes Wing closing in 800 milliseconds.
- 23:47Oh, giving them an unfair advantage open longer.
- 23:51Okay.
- 23:52Oh yeah.
- 23:52So Mercedes, they're gonna get, they're gonna get penalized for this, and as
- 23:56soon as Ferrari releases the loopty loop wing that they came up with,
- 24:01that'll get protested right away.
- 24:03That's probably why they haven't used it in an actual race yet.
- 24:06Yeah, because it's gonna get banned immediately.
- 24:08That's why.
- 24:09Oh, I, I, I forgot to tell you, the team that actually brought this to the FI's
- 24:12attention was Ferrari Ferri Ferrari.
- 24:15Of course, of course.
- 24:16So they can get their loopty loop wing.
- 24:17Yes.
- 24:18Well, if they can do this, I want to loopy loop.
- 24:20If you're gonna allow the wings to stay open longer, and that means
- 24:23they've got somebody analyzing and timing how long the wings?
- 24:27800 milliseconds.
- 24:28Like you can't even blink that.
- 24:30You know, it's like boom, it's done.
- 24:32But somebody's measured that.
- 24:34And they went to the FIA and protest, and Ferrari is notorious for getting their
- 24:38way when they feel like somebody else is cheating for Ferrari and Red Bull.
- 24:41Both.
- 24:42Yeah.
- 24:43All that to say Kimmy second place in Australia.
- 24:46That was awesome for stopping starts 20th and he ends up sixth behind Lando.
- 24:51And to your point about McLaren, where's our great champion?
- 24:54Lando Norris.
- 24:56Not on the podium.
- 24:57Okay.
- 24:58Ha one hit wonder.
- 25:00I think so.
- 25:01And I also think last year was staged.
- 25:03There was some toy pokey there.
- 25:05Shenanigans.
- 25:06I'm calling it now shenanigans, but the rotating wing hopefully
- 25:10will eventually get to that so that Ferrari can get protested by Mercedes.
- 25:13But Tanya, you brought to light, they've got some other tricks up their sleeve.
- 25:17Yes, apparently they have an extra little wing on the Halo bar to help streamline
- 25:23the air around the driver's head.
- 25:25How long before Mercedes protest that I, I don't know.
- 25:30So this is how Formula One works.
- 25:31You don't get protested if you're losing, but the minute Ferrari wins,
- 25:36this is the thing that Mercedes is gonna hang their hat on next and say,
- 25:40well, you don't have the wing that opens and closes too slowly or whatever.
- 25:44You've got this other little piece of carbon fiber on the halo.
- 25:47Yeah.
- 25:48Right.
- 25:48What a joke.
- 25:49So switching gears to China,
- 25:58best race I have seen in years was the China Sprint race.
- 26:03Holy crap.
- 26:04Why?
- 26:05Even with the turbo mushroom stuff, it was amazing.
- 26:08Like why aren't all Formula one races 19 laps?
- 26:12It was balls to the wall, go for it, get it done.
- 26:16Action.
- 26:17There was a safety card, there were pit stops.
- 26:20Kimmy is a freaking superhero.
- 26:22Like he goes from like worst to first.
- 26:24He suffers a ten second penalty and still manages to get back up to.
- 26:30I told you guys to watch out for this kid.
- 26:32He's a Wonder Kin.
- 26:34Last year was just his rookie year.
- 26:36He is getting a feel for it, but this year he's coming out swinging,
- 26:39swinging, and then he comes out the next day and he kicks ass and he
- 26:43wins 19 years old on the podium.
- 26:46Dude, it's amazing.
- 26:48I really enjoyed the racing between Hamilton and Cleric.
- 26:52Watching them go back and forth at each other I thought was, was fun.
- 26:55Well, even Claire said it was fun at the end.
- 26:57Yeah.
- 26:57Imagine that letting them race and the drivers enjoy it and have fun.
- 27:02Who knew?
- 27:03Yeah.
- 27:03God forbid.
- 27:05So during China.
- 27:06Mort's out both.
- 27:08McLaren's out, Alban's out.
- 27:10Aston's are eventually out and then Verta is out.
- 27:13Like that's a lot of cars.
- 27:15Out record, number of carb, like out in a dry race.
- 27:19That's a lot of cars in a dry race.
- 27:21That's what I'm saying.
- 27:22Right.
- 27:23Predictions for Japan.
- 27:25What do we think Mercedes and Ferrari back at the front, Hamilton's gonna win.
- 27:28You think Hamilton's gonna win in Japan?
- 27:30I'm going with Hamilton.
- 27:31I'm, I'm having a lot of fun watching Hamilton kind of do.
- 27:34Well.
- 27:35After last year, uh, it's gonna be between Mercedes and Ferrari at the front,
- 27:40and we don't care about anybody else.
- 27:42I mean, it's a crapshoot of everybody else.
- 27:46It's hard to say.
- 27:47Like Aston's gonna be last.
- 27:49Aston's gonna be last.
- 27:50Cadillac's gonna be last.
- 27:52Yeah.
- 27:52Audi's gonna be in the middle.
- 27:53Audi's gonna be solid, middle, as long as they got a car in bottom middle.
- 27:58Let's be real.
- 27:59Bottom middle.
- 28:00There's 22 cars, so the middle is like 10, 11.
- 28:04That's the middle.
- 28:06I think Audi's gonna get a point.
- 28:07Okay.
- 28:08Here's what's gonna happen.
- 28:09Okay, I'm gonna start from the back.
- 28:10I'm just gonna say stroll.
- 28:12I need to say anything else.
- 28:14Alonzo's gonna suffer.
- 28:16He's gonna have a seizure from all the shaking and he's
- 28:18gonna alonzo's going well.
- 28:20Alonzo will have been in the middle, but will end up at the bottom At
- 28:23some point, he is gonna retire.
- 28:25He will retire on the 22nd lap because the car can only go to 25.
- 28:30He's, he's gonna retire.
- 28:31Retire.
- 28:32The next car out will be Perez after he hits BOTAs.
- 28:37BOTAs will make it three more turns and the Cadillac will shut off.
- 28:41Like it did in China.
- 28:42So they're out Bline.
- 28:45Ah, that guy, he's gonna start from the pit.
- 28:49Kinberg will make it somewhere around 11th and that'll be like the best he'll do.
- 28:54You're gonna have, uh, what's the new kid's name?
- 28:57Lin Blood.
- 28:58Yeah, he'll probably him and Albin and Haja I think are gonna dice it up.
- 29:03They're all gonna be kind of stuck together there.
- 29:06And then Liam's gonna get mixed in and that'll be the end of
- 29:08that, like a wrecking ball.
- 29:10The McLaren's won't do anything.
- 29:12And to your point, that leaves whatever at Carlos and who cares?
- 29:17That leaves Ferrari and Mercedes at the end of the day, and Max
- 29:20is just somewhere in there.
- 29:21Max is just lost in space.
- 29:23Poor guy.
- 29:24I mean, we know he can drive.
- 29:26I am convinced he's a goat for sure because you, when you put him in something
- 29:30else, he's amazingly quick to go into the Mercedes GT three car and have pole and be
- 29:351.9 seconds faster ahead on the berg ring.
- 29:38And that's not what you do.
- 29:40Yeah.
- 29:41Against people that that's what they do.
- 29:43I mean, he's a legend, right?
- 29:44I mean, for sure.
- 29:45But he doesn't have the car underneath of him.
- 29:48He, he just doesn't, and Ford needs to get their act together quick.
- 29:51That's pretty much the punchline there.
- 29:53Well, then everybody's saying he's just bitching and moaning about Mario Kart
- 29:57mushroom because he's not doing well.
- 29:59And it's like, one could argue that, but also one could argue the more you see him.
- 30:06And how he is.
- 30:07He just says Shit.
- 30:08If he's saying it's like Mario Kart, then he would probably say
- 30:11that even if he was in first place.
- 30:13Yeah.
- 30:13The fact also stands at China.
- 30:16The motor died like he came back in limp mode.
- 30:20Yeah, so.
- 30:21The car was junk.
- 30:22The motor's junk.
- 30:23They need to figure it out.
- 30:24I mean, it was junk in Australia too, but what a heroic move to go
- 30:27from last place to be like sixth.
- 30:29Yeah, sixth.
- 30:30And if there had been like one more lap, he would've gotten around Landau.
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:33'cause he's just looking for a parking spot out there.
- 30:35I mean, it's pathetic, but, so since we're talking about Max,
- 30:38let's finish out talking about Max.
- 30:40You mentioned the Berg ring already a couple of times and, and how he did.
- 30:43What surprises me though, and I find it ironic.
- 30:46Ford is backing him in Formula One, right?
- 30:48You see him everywhere with his Ford stuff and his Red Bull and whatever.
- 30:51How come they didn't give him a Mustang to go run the burger with?
- 30:54I don't know.
- 30:56Because he has gone out and done stuff in the new Mustang, like he's driven it.
- 31:01I don't know what the deal is.
- 31:02'cause like when he did the Berg last year, he was in the Porsche
- 31:06and he's also tested the Ferrari.
- 31:08Were there any Mustangs in the race?
- 31:12Yes, because it crashed.
- 31:13Oh, okay.
- 31:14Or it was crashed into, I forget what happened.
- 31:16It got like punted, I think.
- 31:18I just think it's weird that his title sponsor, you know, second to Red Bull,
- 31:22didn't give him a car to go do this.
- 31:25I don't know how it works.
- 31:26He's got the Red Bull sponsorship.
- 31:28He's out there in the Mercedes?
- 31:30Yes.
- 31:30In Red Bull livery.
- 31:31Yes.
- 31:31Which is why I think it's strange that he's not running a Ford.
- 31:34I don't know how all those rules work.
- 31:36It's weird.
- 31:37Or maybe, maybe Toto ISS involved.
- 31:39Like you were saying before, Tanya, he's like, I'll give you a Benz.
- 31:47But it's all for nothing.
- 31:49Poor Max.
- 31:50It is unfortunately, all for nothing because I mean, the first stint, he
- 31:53was poll, he was first off the line.
- 31:57I missed what happened within the first lap that the Audi got around.
- 32:01It had something to do with draft.
- 32:03I think the Audi was able to slip around and then he basically spent
- 32:07the hour glued to his ass the whole time and then got around him.
- 32:12They pitted.
- 32:13He went back out.
- 32:14He did.
- 32:14They didn't change drivers at that point.
- 32:16And then like the next Audi Dr. The Audi changed drivers and then like the
- 32:22time just was stacking at that point.
- 32:24He did come in, at some point they switched drivers again, blah, blah, blah.
- 32:27And then like, that was, that was like it after that.
- 32:30I think the gap just kept growing.
- 32:32So they did finish.
- 32:34He got back in at the very end, so he crossed the lines.
- 32:37They finished in first Ray.
- 32:39Yay.
- 32:40Rah rah.
- 32:41And then like several hours later, the notice comes out that they were
- 32:45disqualified because Audi protested.
- 32:48They got tech inspected, post impound, I don't know.
- 32:52So apparently there was too many tire changes, and so it's like, huh?
- 32:56They did, I believe, have to do a mandatory three stops because they
- 33:01gotta change the drivers and everything.
- 33:03But the problem is.
- 33:04It actually was.
- 33:06Whatever happened in qualifying.
- 33:09Oh, did they used an extra set there.
- 33:12They had the proper number of stops and everything in the actual
- 33:14race, but there was an extra set of tires during the qualifying
- 33:18is what threw them one set extra.
- 33:21And they should have used, you think they would've known that going into the
- 33:24race or somebody would've told them?
- 33:26Who knows?
- 33:27Inep.
- 33:27Ineptitude.
- 33:27I don't know.
- 33:28Collusion.
- 33:29I would like to think he wouldn't cheat like that.
- 33:33Yeah.
- 33:33Right.
- 33:34Just to close out on Max Formula one.
- 33:36God, he's moving into a sports car and endurance racing and he is flat
- 33:40out said, despite the fact that his dad does rally, he'll never do it.
- 33:45He's too dangerous.
- 33:46Yeah, he says he is not interested in doing rally.
- 33:48It does allude to the fact that he goes out with his dad and they do some
- 33:51practice rally stuff, I guess like on a closed course, and he said it's
- 33:54fun, but he has no desire to go do rally like on a professional level.
- 33:58He's said this similar thing about IndyCar, that he won't
- 34:01do that because basically.
- 34:04There's too much risk also in that it's too crashy.
- 34:07I think he said something along those lines.
- 34:09It's like, not worth it to me, but I think the rally one is definitely,
- 34:12for sure the risk of, of a, of a crash into a tree or something like that, is
- 34:17not something he is willing to take.
- 34:19It's one of the few motorsport that is still like highly
- 34:22dangerous where fatalities occur.
- 34:25Yeah, I, I don't wanna say on the regular, but they do compared to every
- 34:28other motor sport, which is pretty safe.
- 34:30I mean, it's interesting to see that he does draw a line somewhere.
- 34:33Well, he did just have a kid too though.
- 34:35Yeah.
- 34:35Fatherhood will do that to you.
- 34:36Yeah, a little bit.
- 34:39Well, on that note, I'm excited to see where the rest of the season goes
- 34:42and I'm excited to share it with you guys, but it is shaping up again.
- 34:45I like it, but I don't, but I do, but I don't.
- 34:49It's weird.
- 34:49Conflicted.
- 34:51I really am.
- 34:51But I guess a couple more races, we'll see where things go or if we
- 34:54just lock ourselves into a rhythm like we did last year after Suzuka.
- 34:58And, uh, it is what it is.
- 35:00So I guess we'll just have to stay tuned for the next one.
- 35:02Mm-hmm.
