- 0:08Speaker 1: This is me eater podcast coming at you shirtless, severely
- 0:13Speaker 1: bug bitten in my case, underwear listening Hunt podcast, you
- 0:18Speaker 1: can't predict anything presented by on X. Hunt creators are
- 0:22Speaker 1: the most comprehensive digital mapping system for hunters. Download the
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hunt app from the iTunes or Google play store. Nor
- 0:29Speaker 1: where you stand with on X okay, cal go on okay?
- 0:38Speaker 1: First off, people, what you're you're saying really boring stuff
- 0:41Speaker 1: about about beer? Yeah, I mean it's it's it's this
- 0:45Speaker 1: is a road well traveled here. We're not not cutting
- 0:48Speaker 1: a new trail. We're talking about how that you know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: the perception is an I P A I must take
- 0:55Speaker 1: a lot of time because of the complex flavors and
- 1:01Speaker 1: how powerful the beer seems. But in reality, like a
- 1:09Speaker 1: pilsner is so highly refined, it takes a lot more
- 1:12Speaker 1: time to produce than than an I P A uh.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And you know, like your German beer circles there's you
- 1:22Speaker 1: get get a lot more respect for producing some highly
- 1:25Speaker 1: refined pilsner. So it takes more skill to make miller
- 1:29Speaker 1: light than in a triple I p A whoa whoa
- 1:35Speaker 1: Your cores lights just a piggyback on on top of that.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Pilsner's are are laggers, so they're cold. They're cold fermented,
- 1:46Speaker 1: so it takes more time for the yeast. But that's
- 1:47Speaker 1: part of why it takes so long. It's the east.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I would rather hear people don't even need fire. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: would rather hear people say UM. I'd rather go around
- 1:57Speaker 1: the room and have everybody say, like when I cut
- 2:02Speaker 1: my tone nails, I like to do, and have them
- 2:05Speaker 1: go through the order that they do their tonnails, and
- 2:07Speaker 1: then the next person says, well, I like it to
- 2:10Speaker 1: do the same way where I started on the left
- 2:12Speaker 1: and go It's like, I just what brought this up?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Is um? Kind of the drink I'm having. My wife
- 2:21Speaker 1: drinks a shipload of Chilada's, which is it's it's beer
- 2:28Speaker 1: and comado juice. Yeah, anything, And we were um. Her
- 2:36Speaker 1: her birthday happened that long ago, but I had to
- 2:38Speaker 1: go away on her birthday early in the morning, and
- 2:40Speaker 1: so we have been turkey hunting, and I arranged it
- 2:43Speaker 1: when we got back from camping. Turkey hunting on the
- 2:46Speaker 1: doorstep would be like a care package of things that
- 2:49Speaker 1: I know she likes. And one of the things I
- 2:51Speaker 1: know she likes is Budweise or Chelata or so I thought.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So you home and they're like, there's like flowers, fancy chocolates,
- 3:01Speaker 1: in a six pack of Budge, a lot of Tall Boys.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So the next day, on her actual birthday, I totally
- 3:07Speaker 1: forgot about her birthday and called her wants to complain
- 3:11Speaker 1: to her about something that I thought she did and
- 3:13Speaker 1: didn't do. Um, And she's nice. And I called back
- 3:17Speaker 1: a minute later and she's like, oh, he must have
- 3:19Speaker 1: remembered that it's my birthday, but instead I was calling
- 3:23Speaker 1: her to tell her a different thing I need wanted
- 3:25Speaker 1: her to do, at which point she got real uh
- 3:28Speaker 1: mad that I had again forgotten all about her birthday.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And I pointed out that I hadn't. I had just
- 3:33Speaker 1: celebrated it the day before and reminded her about the
- 3:38Speaker 1: Budge lattas, and she pointed out that she drinks bud
- 3:41Speaker 1: Light cheladas, so it didn't even really count. Fail. So
- 3:46Speaker 1: now I went home and found it in the fridge.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It's the tall Boy bud and um, now I'm having
- 3:52Speaker 1: it strength m'd rather enjoy it. Um of you guys
- 3:59Speaker 1: heard this. This is interesting to talk about for a second. Here,
- 4:03Speaker 1: they really I don't know anybody did this. They redid
- 4:06Speaker 1: Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Are you wearing this? It's
- 4:10Speaker 1: kind of all over the news. But they made a
- 4:11Speaker 1: conscious decision that Elmer Fudd has no gun, so he
- 4:15Speaker 1: still has dynamite. He still has like like Hi, he
- 4:18Speaker 1: still has high intensity explosives. They're also going to allow
- 4:21Speaker 1: him to hunt bugs Bunny with a with a side yea,
- 4:26Speaker 1: as if that's like Elmer Fudd now to a side,
- 4:32Speaker 1: he's he's been disarmed and like the creators of his
- 4:34Speaker 1: cartoon Shore basically no, we're not doing guns. He still
- 4:37Speaker 1: orders stuff like they're still doing the acne products. But man,
- 4:42Speaker 1: a couple of things is all the best jokes were
- 4:44Speaker 1: about the guns, like your barrel getting tied and n
- 4:48Speaker 1: that's that. That joke never gets old. And then when
- 4:52Speaker 1: he's down in the Appalachia they have like the blunderbusses
- 4:55Speaker 1: and people put their fingers and then the barrel and
- 4:57Speaker 1: all that. It's all it takes what's interested the thing.
- 5:01Speaker 1: The first thing I thought about it. I don't know
- 5:02Speaker 1: if anyways made this connection is there's a term like
- 5:05Speaker 1: if you're a dude who just thinks about guns through
- 5:07Speaker 1: the lens of hunting. You're like you you you run
- 5:11Speaker 1: the risk of being called a fund, meaning you're not
- 5:14Speaker 1: like supportive enough of gun rights because you just like
- 5:18Speaker 1: hunting guns, and it's bad to be a fund. And
- 5:21Speaker 1: here it's like it's almost like, uh, what happened to
- 5:25Speaker 1: Elmer Fudd is what they say, what happened to all funds?
- 5:29Speaker 1: You'll get like disarmed. So now here the poster boy
- 5:33Speaker 1: for being a fund has been disarmed. On the Bucks
- 5:38Speaker 1: Bunny Show, it feels to me like a you know,
- 5:43Speaker 1: like it's all coming true. Feeling circumspect man. A guy
- 5:51Speaker 1: wrote in he got a guy rolled into got fish cuffed,
- 5:54Speaker 1: which is interesting. He was, he's a long haul trucker
- 5:58Speaker 1: and he carries a tackle box rounding his stuff because
- 6:01Speaker 1: he likes to stop fishing us in the Dakotas. And
- 6:04Speaker 1: he goes in his tackle box to get out of
- 6:06Speaker 1: a rappola and he's like, it's like real, he says.
- 6:11Speaker 1: He describes it as a beautiful COVID nineteen evening, meaning
- 6:14Speaker 1: apparently that no one's anywhere around, trips and falls and
- 6:20Speaker 1: snags both his thumbs on the rappola, but his phones
- 6:24Speaker 1: in his back pocket and there's his hands are so
- 6:28Speaker 1: snagged he can't even get him out of his back pocket,
- 6:31Speaker 1: and he's like bleeding all over the place and tried
- 6:33Speaker 1: to and he's he's trying to wave people down. He
- 6:36Speaker 1: needs to raise both of his bloody hands. So he's
- 6:43Speaker 1: to raise both his bloody hands in the air to
- 6:45Speaker 1: try to get help, which he says wasn't working, and
- 6:48Speaker 1: eventually finds his way down to a bar, and everybody
- 6:51Speaker 1: was so excited about their bar being back opened again
- 6:54Speaker 1: that he was able to get himself taken care of.
- 6:57Speaker 1: In North Dakota. UM, Cal's got big news. Go ahead, Cal,
- 7:04Speaker 1: where do you want me to start? Like your this
- 7:06Speaker 1: is your this is your um you know, it's like
- 7:10Speaker 1: your your thing, the passage of the Oh okay, what
- 7:18Speaker 1: news are you going to share with me on some
- 7:21Speaker 1: hot dates? Oh yeah, I'm sorry. That Great American Outdoors Act.
- 7:27Speaker 1: What do you where? Which one you want to start with? Uh?
- 7:29Speaker 1: We can start with Great American Outdoors Act. That's a
- 7:32Speaker 1: that's a great one. So you know, we've been harping
- 7:34Speaker 1: on this for a long time because it's UM contains
- 7:39Speaker 1: it's a big package that has a ton of bipartisan
- 7:44Speaker 1: support and it. But even even though that existed, we
- 7:50Speaker 1: still needed uh it to be introduced for consideration. Basically,
- 7:56Speaker 1: word came down that uh, Mitch McConnell was gonna, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: actually introduced the Great American Outdoors Act. We all got
- 8:04Speaker 1: super excited, um, and there was this little bit of
- 8:09Speaker 1: uncertainty that if it hit the floor because there was
- 8:14Speaker 1: so much support um, that the little bit of dissenting
- 8:21Speaker 1: voice out there, they're only opportunity to stop this public lands. Uh,
- 8:30Speaker 1: this is very beneficial to people who like to be
- 8:32Speaker 1: outside public lands, beneficial package. The only way to stop
- 8:36Speaker 1: it would be to filibuster. So the package gets introduced
- 8:43Speaker 1: and somebody has said, yeah, you want to debate this,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and during that debate situation is when somebody could stand
- 8:52Speaker 1: up and be like, yeah, hey, I got something I
- 8:55Speaker 1: want to talk about, and just go until you can
- 9:00Speaker 1: you can never get a vote red um. But what
- 9:04Speaker 1: happened instead was they immediately moved um to go go
- 9:13Speaker 1: directly to a vote. Uh. Instead, it's called clot tour
- 9:19Speaker 1: cloth tour um. That sounds like a kind of yeah yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 1: drinking a cloth tour um. Uh. And so you you everybody,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and there's a big, very supportive vote seventeen. I think
- 9:36Speaker 1: that said yes, let's move this thing on. So now
- 9:39Speaker 1: it's done or it's not done. Sometimes have a hard
- 9:42Speaker 1: time with news stories because I think that they're done,
- 9:44Speaker 1: but they're not done. Yeah, well that's I did this
- 9:47Speaker 1: post on Instagram that was like, hey, go check this
- 9:50Speaker 1: out because I want you to be involved, and everybody's like, yeah,
- 9:54Speaker 1: we won. Well until the second I thought we had
- 9:58Speaker 1: one yes, So all right, Uh, well the House has
- 10:02Speaker 1: passed it, right, No, no, no, they voted the results.
- 10:09Speaker 1: They just voted to vote yes to to skip the
- 10:13Speaker 1: debate portion. It's gonna come back out, um early next
- 10:19Speaker 1: week for the actual vote. So it's still very much
- 10:23Speaker 1: a you know, stay on your elected officials. Um, this
- 10:27Speaker 1: is by the time you're hearing this, it's all history.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Do you think the uh, the overwhelming majority to vote
- 10:36Speaker 1: to vote is a good sign? Yes, I would take
- 10:40Speaker 1: it as a good sign because it eliminates one of
- 10:42Speaker 1: the threats, um, which would be just the thing being filibuster,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and for the sake of moving on with everything else
- 10:49Speaker 1: that's going on in the country, we just gotta blow
- 10:51Speaker 1: pass this good thing, which happens. Um. So yeah, it's
- 10:56Speaker 1: it's a good thing. It's it's very much progress right now.
- 10:59Speaker 1: There's a bunch of uh Republicans and Democrats that have
- 11:05Speaker 1: basically said, yes, we want to see movement on this thing, um,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and that right there was an opportunity to stall it
- 11:14Speaker 1: and open it up. So there's only seventeen dissenting voices,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and um, of those seventeen, you know, there's folks that
- 11:25Speaker 1: are you know, adamantly against any sort of support for
- 11:34Speaker 1: public lands, uh, you know, kind of anti any Yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 1: so really might be like Utah's no, no, and he's
- 11:45Speaker 1: one of the folks that has been Yeah, he'll let
- 11:49Speaker 1: you know that he doesn't like it. But did did
- 11:52Speaker 1: people not like it from both spectrums? It was all
- 11:56Speaker 1: the dislike coming from one direction. Oh, most of the
- 12:00Speaker 1: dislike is coming from one direction. Um. And because there's
- 12:09Speaker 1: there's no like list of the seventeen that I've been
- 12:13Speaker 1: able to find, it should be available right well, because
- 12:16Speaker 1: it's not. Yeah, but yeah, if you know you have
- 12:20Speaker 1: founded or whatever the hell? Yeah, so um, but um
- 12:28Speaker 1: Ted Cruz Red, who's you didn't like it? He don't
- 12:33Speaker 1: look like he don't strike me as real outdoors And
- 12:35Speaker 1: to be honest with you, he doesn't see the sun
- 12:37Speaker 1: a lot. We can tell that. Um. You know, his
- 12:40Speaker 1: famous quote is Texas has two percent public lands and
- 12:45Speaker 1: that's two too much. M hmm. So he's he's not
- 12:49Speaker 1: going to be voting on behalf of public lands. When
- 12:52Speaker 1: the kids go out on their little scooters or whatever,
- 12:55Speaker 1: where do they wind up? Umm? Well, I mean that's
- 12:58Speaker 1: the hard part about doing this conservation work and working
- 13:02Speaker 1: with people that don't want to. They still they can
- 13:05Speaker 1: fight against all this public work stuff. I mean as
- 13:10Speaker 1: like vehemently and ardently and just rally hard against it.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, they still got
- 13:17Speaker 1: to go out and use it. They still got to
- 13:20Speaker 1: go take it. There's probably people that are so um
- 13:24Speaker 1: peer so pure that they would be like, I don't
- 13:28Speaker 1: like it and I won't even go on it. Yes,
- 13:31Speaker 1: for sure that exists. Oh yeah yeah. Um so so
- 13:37Speaker 1: what happens now? Now it goes to the house. Yeah
- 13:40Speaker 1: and it Uh they should wrap this thing up on
- 13:46Speaker 1: Tuesday or Wednesday is the word on this on the hill,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and then there will never be another problem. This is it,
- 13:55Speaker 1: because then they don't have to go to the Senate.
- 13:58Speaker 1: This is you, guys, This is the preliminary vote. No,
- 14:04Speaker 1: this is not the preliminary vote. This was we're bringing
- 14:07Speaker 1: this thing out onto the floor for debate. We voted
- 14:12Speaker 1: to say we are not going to have a debate.
- 14:14Speaker 1: We want to go to a vote. They're like, great,
- 14:17Speaker 1: we're gonna bring this bag out next week and we're
- 14:20Speaker 1: gonna vote, so everybody can study up on this. This
- 14:23Speaker 1: is the house. Do you think that then it's going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to go to the Senate? Yes, I'm right. Oh yeah,
- 14:30Speaker 1: he did say this American outdoors cloture vote. I didn't
- 14:36Speaker 1: notice that tour, I think is what. Yeah, we get
- 14:40Speaker 1: it all from the French that they were voting to
- 14:45Speaker 1: debate it. Yes, but when they vote for real, it
- 14:49Speaker 1: might be unanimous. It could very well be unanimous. It
- 14:53Speaker 1: could very well, um be some a little bit of
- 14:58Speaker 1: political games of Um, I'm gonna be a nice person
- 15:05Speaker 1: and push it this way so everybody knows, but then
- 15:08Speaker 1: I might dinghy in the back when we go to
- 15:11Speaker 1: the actual vote. Um, you know, there's there's a lot
- 15:14Speaker 1: of stuff that that's still up in the air, so
- 15:17Speaker 1: um yeah, I mean it's it's another deal. Like we
- 15:21Speaker 1: had an incredible amount of out pouring from uh you know,
- 15:26Speaker 1: people that listen to the to the show and listen
- 15:28Speaker 1: to the weekend review um and follow everybody's social channels.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I was talking about the Great American Outdoors Act. Incredible
- 15:35Speaker 1: amount of people wrote in and said, you know, I
- 15:37Speaker 1: have never ever done this before, but I actually got
- 15:42Speaker 1: ahold of my senator. You want something interesting, Yanni called
- 15:46Speaker 1: his tell me. I called the representative Gene Forte. Yep.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Left in a message at his Washington, d C. Office
- 15:56Speaker 1: because the weekend it was Saturday, so it's got a
- 15:59Speaker 1: voicemail or not a voicemail. I left a voicemail on
- 16:02Speaker 1: a machine. He's like, yeah, what's up. I lived just
- 16:06Speaker 1: down the street from you, Bozeman, Montana. All I gave
- 16:09Speaker 1: him was my name in the city that I lived in.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And then on Monday, I received an email from his
- 16:16Speaker 1: office saying thanks for reaching out. That's customer service. I
- 16:19Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know what what you want to
- 16:22Speaker 1: call it. That's next level customer service today. Actually we're
- 16:25Speaker 1: able to find you on his email and email him yes,
- 16:29Speaker 1: are you not getting already? Previously had John record, Yeah, yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 1: that's a solid CRM. But even then even then I
- 16:38Speaker 1: was impressed. Man, Yeah, I like when little things make
- 16:41Speaker 1: you feel proud of, like our system. When I took
- 16:44Speaker 1: someone a small claims court, I walked away field. I
- 16:46Speaker 1: was patriotic for months after that. What happened when I
- 16:52Speaker 1: had a dispute with the landlord and uh, the house
- 16:56Speaker 1: I was rent and burnt down, and I thought, since
- 16:57Speaker 1: it burnt down, I feel like it was my fault.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Someone else they knew what caused it. The house burned down.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I was like, I feel like I should get like
- 17:04Speaker 1: my brant back because I didn't burn it down. But
- 17:06Speaker 1: now I can't go into it because it's burnt down.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And they're basically like no, And that was really getting
- 17:12Speaker 1: on my nerves and eventually got him a small claims
- 17:14Speaker 1: court and the judge spent the whole time yelling at him.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And you just sat there. I just sat there, and
- 17:21Speaker 1: the judge is like, you've got no problem. The checks
- 17:24Speaker 1: come rolling in and you just cash him, and then
- 17:27Speaker 1: there's a problem, and then dude, dude do and just
- 17:31Speaker 1: I don't started to feel bad for the person. Judge
- 17:36Speaker 1: so irritated, but he proraded the month or whatever. Judge like,
- 17:41Speaker 1: give us money. Yeah, The judge like all they do
- 17:45Speaker 1: is yell at the person of America. They're kind of
- 17:51Speaker 1: the judge like moment, what what you have? Nothing? That's like,
- 17:55Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Yeah? That's great. Yeah, so
- 18:00Speaker 1: I guess let's let's recap here Senate voting. It's not
- 18:05Speaker 1: clothe Tour. No too Cloe Tour all right now, if
- 18:11Speaker 1: there's gonna be a vote next week, that is a
- 18:14Speaker 1: vote vote like yeas nays to move this bill on that.
- 18:22Speaker 1: You know. The final step is the executive branch, right,
- 18:24Speaker 1: this bill has gotta hit Trump's desk and he's got
- 18:27Speaker 1: to sign it. Yeah, he'll sign it. Yeah, I mean
- 18:30Speaker 1: he he's voiced public support for this already and he'd
- 18:34Speaker 1: be over ridden anyway. It's it's very um you know,
- 18:40Speaker 1: this is something everybody wants right now. So it's coming
- 18:43Speaker 1: out of his and it's got big support from the
- 18:45Speaker 1: Interior Department anyway. So good, Okay, Now tell us about
- 18:50Speaker 1: the next thing. Cal or do we want to take
- 18:51Speaker 1: a break and talk about the song about Yanni? Too
- 18:56Speaker 1: much news? Is it too much news? In a row
- 18:58Speaker 1: of cal goes into more news. I like the idea
- 19:02Speaker 1: of breaking it depends. Is it an uplifting story like
- 19:05Speaker 1: the one that He ended with, last time we were
- 19:07Speaker 1: all together, it's up. Yeah, I'd say it's uplifting. You
- 19:12Speaker 1: want to do the land access, That's what I want
- 19:14Speaker 1: to talk about. Now, let's break it up and talk
- 19:16Speaker 1: about because we gotta talk about another song later. So
- 19:19Speaker 1: I feel like rather than talking about two songs later,
- 19:22Speaker 1: which I thought would be a good idea a minute ago,
- 19:24Speaker 1: and I want to talk about one song now where
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yanni I wrote it. I started trying to work on
- 19:29Speaker 1: a song about Yanni set to um the ballot of
- 19:33Speaker 1: Davy Crockett and someone found where someone did it better
- 19:40Speaker 1: on what's that on? Fill? Can you play it for
- 19:43Speaker 1: us real quick? They didn't strum along or anything. The
- 19:49Speaker 1: lab Vian eagle has a keen game. He wears a
- 19:53Speaker 1: power ring. It makes him extra slide his trek and
- 19:56Speaker 1: polls known from making big bears cry. If you hear blouch,
- 20:00Speaker 1: kiss your ass good bye, Yanni, Yanni Chumani, he's one
- 20:07Speaker 1: hell of a god. It's really nice, man, I mean,
- 20:09Speaker 1: just really about it just came right together, Yanni him.
- 20:14Speaker 1: The way the song came about as we were in
- 20:16Speaker 1: oblivion with the Chimani tribe and I was going to
- 20:18Speaker 1: write a song about if Yanni decided never to go home. Yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but I think that was spurred on by because you
- 20:25Speaker 1: were having a lot of thoughts and visions, like you
- 20:28Speaker 1: like to play a sort of like what if game
- 20:31Speaker 1: with yourself movies, and it involved like, you know, if
- 20:39Speaker 1: something were happened to my wife and my family and
- 20:42Speaker 1: I had to restart again be down here because a
- 20:47Speaker 1: lot of what we saw they don't No, there's nothing
- 20:51Speaker 1: wrong with it, but they don't keep up their homesteads
- 20:54Speaker 1: of their village is the same way that we do
- 20:56Speaker 1: here in the States a lot. And I really wanted
- 20:58Speaker 1: to clean everything up. You really want to like spruce
- 21:00Speaker 1: it up. So you had you had these visions and
- 21:02Speaker 1: organized grand visions of you know, giant village is all
- 21:05Speaker 1: nice and tidy, lawnmow, fishing equipment organized, and um, I
- 21:11Speaker 1: don't know, I guess from there when you realized that
- 21:13Speaker 1: wasn't gonna really happen, then you you spawned that into
- 21:16Speaker 1: this song. Yeah, it was all about Yanni. But and
- 21:19Speaker 1: that's what we came up with Yanni. The best part
- 21:21Speaker 1: of that trip, I don't want to name who it was.
- 21:25Speaker 1: One of the guys we worked with had just had
- 21:27Speaker 1: to had just had to call it off with a girlfriend.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Do you think we're okay to talk about this? Oh? Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: he had had to. We're gonna do then we got
- 21:41Speaker 1: we got some introls we gotta do. He had had
- 21:43Speaker 1: to call it off with a girlfriend because it's like weird,
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's a weird reason I had to call it off
- 21:52Speaker 1: of someone. He's one of our guys was dating a
- 21:56Speaker 1: girl who had a cat, a house cat, and she
- 22:00Speaker 1: would talk to him as though speaking through the cat
- 22:06Speaker 1: in a baby voice, in a cat baby voice, a
- 22:09Speaker 1: cat baby voice. This is someone whose name is familiar
- 22:12Speaker 1: to everyone, right, Well, I'm gonna give him a different
- 22:15Speaker 1: name right now. Let's say his name is Dave. So
- 22:18Speaker 1: if Dave was laying there and the cat was there,
- 22:22Speaker 1: she would be across the room and she'd be like, Dave,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I'm here to be bad, okay. And he couldn't handle it,
- 22:32Speaker 1: um and he had to call it off. So what
- 22:37Speaker 1: happened though? While we're down there that Chimani were explaining
- 22:39Speaker 1: to us that there's a woman that will go into
- 22:43Speaker 1: the river. It's a it's a demon like like like
- 22:47Speaker 1: an extra what's the word I'm looking for? Like spirit?
- 22:51Speaker 1: A spirit, a spirit that goes into the river, the
- 22:55Speaker 1: evil spirit. A beautiful woman, a beautiful nude woman. We'll
- 22:59Speaker 1: going to the river and pretend to drown, and she'll
- 23:03Speaker 1: seduce men to come out to save her, and then
- 23:07Speaker 1: she'll grab them and pull them. Sirens like a mermaid
- 23:14Speaker 1: siren tank. Yeah. So somehow Phil's story about the cat
- 23:19Speaker 1: and this woman got uh conflated to it became that
- 23:25Speaker 1: there is a woman in the river who goes You
- 23:34Speaker 1: gotta redo it now with Daves. I thought it was Dave.
- 23:41Speaker 1: We reimagined it. We reimagined it where these two things
- 23:44Speaker 1: got conflated to where there was a siren who would
- 23:48Speaker 1: go into the river and be Dave, come safe. My
- 23:55Speaker 1: fool is always and I believe the one night that
- 23:59Speaker 1: we we we fished that hole until dark and then
- 24:04Speaker 1: some of that your minds hung back and maybe even
- 24:06Speaker 1: fished into the darkness. And when they came back, some
- 24:08Speaker 1: of them were claiming that they had heard Yeah, yeah, boy,
- 24:13Speaker 1: it's just the one that they were. Um, let's do introductions.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I failed to do that. Then we're coming back to you,
- 24:20Speaker 1: cal Kevin, Yeah, um. Kevin Wilkerson, marketing director at Weatherby,
- 24:28Speaker 1: do you mind recapping for people super quick about your thumb,
- 24:35Speaker 1: quick story all the time. This is the main thing
- 24:39Speaker 1: we talked. We talked about it today at the rain
- 24:41Speaker 1: and I was like, I can't believe he brought it
- 24:43Speaker 1: back up. It's the main thing we talked about, told
- 24:46Speaker 1: at least a dozen people anytime. The first time we
- 24:49Speaker 1: heard it was in my place for dinner was and
- 24:51Speaker 1: sex time I heard it was better the second time.
- 24:54Speaker 1: The first time I heard it the first time we
- 24:57Speaker 1: were remember when we were witnessed to a mild catastrophe
- 25:01Speaker 1: at sheep shape show, almost witness to a mile catastrophe
- 25:04Speaker 1: a sheep show. It was a catastrophe that I almost
- 25:08Speaker 1: witnessed that inspired you to tell the story about your thumb.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I guess that's true. Yeah, And then I guess when
- 25:14Speaker 1: you we were in a little putting now I asked
- 25:16Speaker 1: you about it again. Oh, you asked me about it again.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So yeah, the first time I heard it, it's it's
- 25:21Speaker 1: actually caused productivity issues for us. We talked about I'm glad.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I'm blad people think it's a good story. It's I
- 25:27Speaker 1: don't know if I believe it it's And that's why
- 25:29Speaker 1: I'm not going to recap it because it's a very
- 25:32Speaker 1: unbelievable story, and I think a recap would do it
- 25:35Speaker 1: no justice. And we're gonna share this story with our listeners.
- 25:39Speaker 1: We gotta get the whole kit and caboodle. I'll do
- 25:43Speaker 1: a quick do you mind, You can tell it another time.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You don't need to tell it right now, but I'll
- 25:46Speaker 1: tell the short version unless it doesn't makes you uncomfortable. No, oh,
- 25:51Speaker 1: heck no, I don't care. Cut off his thumb right
- 25:57Speaker 1: at the knuckle. At the knuckle and gecko like he
- 26:04Speaker 1: regenerated his thumb to a point. Yes, and it doesn't
- 26:08Speaker 1: feel quite right, but it's definitely there. But if you
- 26:11Speaker 1: look at his two thumbs, I don't around the table.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I don't think that anyone here you heard your story, bro,
- 26:17Speaker 1: Actually one of the few people who haven't. The right
- 26:21Speaker 1: thumb is regrown. The left thumb sh things your regular thumb.
- 26:29Speaker 1: This is the look. They're definitely different. They are thumb
- 26:32Speaker 1: nails substantial. The nail is like double times is thick.
- 26:36Speaker 1: It's definitely a different. I feel like I've been set
- 26:38Speaker 1: up and you gotta look close. It doesn't have a
- 26:43Speaker 1: doesn't have the same. What I did too, is I
- 26:46Speaker 1: gave it a couple of patient he is it bigger
- 26:51Speaker 1: than the others. Yeah, it's way bigger. Yeah. I actually
- 26:55Speaker 1: palm a basketball with my right hand and I can't
- 26:58Speaker 1: palm a basketball in my left and and it's all
- 27:00Speaker 1: because of the thumb being a little bit longer. Like
- 27:02Speaker 1: the Bionic film, I got to hear the detailed version.
- 27:07Speaker 1: It's it's a grinder. I mean, it was a very
- 27:10Speaker 1: it was a gruesome accident. I think we'll have you on,
- 27:12Speaker 1: and i'd like you when you when you come on,
- 27:14Speaker 1: I want to tell the full thumb story and then
- 27:16Speaker 1: tell the the full story about the sign you found
- 27:18Speaker 1: in the last year. Okay, but I also want to
- 27:20Speaker 1: know what about the drumstick in the eyeballs. I like
- 27:23Speaker 1: that story, and I like the stuff about catching the
- 27:25Speaker 1: wild drum stick in the eyeballs. Rugged, Wow, you got
- 27:28Speaker 1: some good ones. Sign the sign he found in Alaska,
- 27:33Speaker 1: amazing story. Actually told that story, like last week, somebody
- 27:36Speaker 1: asked me about it because they were at the house.
- 27:38Speaker 1: They said, hey, what's that sign? I said, Oh, it's
- 27:39Speaker 1: one of my best stories. Like chair, it's gonna take
- 27:42Speaker 1: a while. If you recorded on the podcast here next time,
- 27:47Speaker 1: then you can just yeh, it's episode. I'm gonna call
- 27:55Speaker 1: that episode Kelvin Wilkerson's Greatest Hits. Yeah, that's all injury lady,
- 28:00Speaker 1: except for the sign. Anyways. That's me glad to be here.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Oh did you say what you do though? Oh? Yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I'm a director of marketing and customer service. Whether we
- 28:09Speaker 1: sharedan wyoming guy, Luke Luke Torkelson, I'm the vice president
- 28:15Speaker 1: of Sales, Marketing and Productive Element at Weatherby, and my
- 28:19Speaker 1: thumbs have not regenerated. You just got thumbs you're born with.
- 28:22Speaker 1: The regular old thumbs are kind of boring. Well, Um,
- 28:26Speaker 1: Brodies here, phil We already here from Philip Brody. Me
- 28:30Speaker 1: and Brody just turned in uh for a group project.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Mostly turned in our Wilderness Skills and Survival Book, which
- 28:41Speaker 1: early estimates are that it will be about six hundred
- 28:46Speaker 1: could around six hundred pages, last one you'll ever need.
- 28:51Speaker 1: That sounds like a lot of value. But they're not
- 28:53Speaker 1: gonna make you split it into two like they did
- 28:56Speaker 1: the Complete Guy Hunting. That's a good story. People knows
- 29:00Speaker 1: when we did the when we did the Ore I'm
- 29:04Speaker 1: stumbling here. When we did our Complete Guide to Hunting,
- 29:07Speaker 1: Butchering and Cooking Wild Game. That was intended to not
- 29:12Speaker 1: be volume one and two. It was intending to be
- 29:13Speaker 1: one big book. But that was a large format color
- 29:17Speaker 1: book with the Brazilian photographs in it. So the publisher
- 29:21Speaker 1: was like, you can't. We're not gonna make a seven
- 29:23Speaker 1: page book, like they just don't do that, especially color
- 29:27Speaker 1: and big. And she's like, either gotta like, we gotta
- 29:30Speaker 1: figure it out, so either throw half of it in
- 29:33Speaker 1: the carbage or make it too And that's how that
- 29:35Speaker 1: came to be too. I'm not glad. Yeah, but this one,
- 29:40Speaker 1: there's no splitting up. Yeah, you'd have to do like
- 29:42Speaker 1: nine books, nine small books, so giant book. Uh, illustrations,
- 29:48Speaker 1: beautiful illustrations, the same illustrator if you look at the
- 29:52Speaker 1: complete guy. Did he do illustrations in the cookbook? I
- 29:55Speaker 1: don't believe we had any illustrations in the cookbooks? Yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 1: but he did do this ill straighter did do Yanni's
- 30:01Speaker 1: special bandana series. That's rights how a go to do
- 30:05Speaker 1: your bandana? Speaking of Yanni, He's got a couple of
- 30:08Speaker 1: choice stories and Janni. Yanni's contributions in the book are
- 30:12Speaker 1: so good we call him Jannis. People are sidebars. It's
- 30:20Speaker 1: it's it under sells, It under sells these callis Yanni's inputs.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Yanni on avalanche, Janni on spike camps, Yanni on all
- 30:31Speaker 1: manner things in more, Yanni on the bears on pepper
- 30:39Speaker 1: spray pistol debate. It's a good one, which he points
- 30:43Speaker 1: out that one time he had his pistol and his
- 30:46Speaker 1: pepper spraying. A bear came at him and he grabbed
- 30:48Speaker 1: his treking pole. So when the rubber meets the road,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I don't know, but in theory, here's what I was
- 30:57Speaker 1: going for. But I had a really nice compliment about
- 31:00Speaker 1: that book, and so directed at you guys, was that
- 31:03Speaker 1: the book was very entertaining to read and story like,
- 31:07Speaker 1: but was equally balanced with like good skills and education.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Yeah it's a good como. Yeah, I mean stories like
- 31:14Speaker 1: you were telling helped out with that bars get yours, Um,
- 31:21Speaker 1: it'll be coming out. It'll be a while, but you
- 31:24Speaker 1: know what you want to hear some hard salesmanship when
- 31:27Speaker 1: that book comes. I'm talking to you people out there,
- 31:30Speaker 1: when that book comes out, make no bones about it.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna come and like prepare, start saving your money
- 31:37Speaker 1: and stuff like that, because when that book comes out. Um,
- 31:41Speaker 1: we got screwed out of the best seller list with
- 31:43Speaker 1: our fish and Game cookbook. I was so excited just
- 31:45Speaker 1: for personal reasons and also just for general reasons to
- 31:47Speaker 1: have it be then on the New York Times best
- 31:49Speaker 1: seller list was a fishing game cookbook. I could go
- 31:53Speaker 1: into a long story, but why we sold plenty of
- 31:55Speaker 1: books to make the list, but the way they count,
- 31:57Speaker 1: they were all quick less not publishing. Here, We're getting
- 32:01Speaker 1: way off track. That's what people need to know this.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So when you look at something in the New York
- 32:06Speaker 1: Times best seller they don't they want to see it
- 32:09Speaker 1: sold from a variety of sources. Because there's a thing
- 32:13Speaker 1: where people can buy their own book onto the best
- 32:15Speaker 1: seller list and now and then the book will make
- 32:16Speaker 1: the best seller list and it gets accused of bulk accounts.
- 32:20Speaker 1: So because if the if the if the weather is right,
- 32:22Speaker 1: you could have a nonfiction book come out and sell
- 32:25Speaker 1: like you know, four or five thousand copies and hit
- 32:29Speaker 1: the best seller list in certain categories. So people with
- 32:31Speaker 1: means have at times orchestrated their own best sellers where
- 32:37Speaker 1: they just they had moneies on an object for them
- 32:39Speaker 1: and they've they've gamed it. So what the Times likes
- 32:42Speaker 1: to see is they like to see it's sold uh,
- 32:47Speaker 1: all around the country from a variety of sources. Then
- 32:50Speaker 1: what they like to see is they actually they actually
- 32:52Speaker 1: do it. So at certain independent bookstores are two x
- 32:55Speaker 1: when they when they run their formula. We sold all
- 32:59Speaker 1: the books that were in print, We sold before the
- 33:01Speaker 1: book came out, all through Amazon. So by the time
- 33:07Speaker 1: the book came out, it was already it was already
- 33:10Speaker 1: back ordered thousands of copies, and we had sold enough
- 33:13Speaker 1: through pre orders to hit the best seller lists. In fact,
- 33:16Speaker 1: we know the exact numbers of what the best seller
- 33:19Speaker 1: because our publisher had a bunch of them. We know
- 33:23Speaker 1: we sold more copies than books that beat us on
- 33:25Speaker 1: the best seller list, but it didn't count because they
- 33:29Speaker 1: had all been single source pre orders through Amazon, so
- 33:32Speaker 1: the numbers were not accepted. So this time, man, we're
- 33:38Speaker 1: talking about it pretty early. What is it June? We're
- 33:40Speaker 1: talking about something's gonna happen in like November, December. But
- 33:43Speaker 1: get ready, yeah, start asking your local books store now,
- 33:49Speaker 1: plan on not getting it through Amazon? Is that what
- 33:51Speaker 1: we need to tell them? Just they just need to
- 33:52Speaker 1: buy it all over like you gotta buy it from
- 33:55Speaker 1: a lot of places, multiple copies all up weather be
- 34:03Speaker 1: asking if you got saying Amazon if you have, but
- 34:07Speaker 1: if you have the option of buying it at a bookstore,
- 34:09Speaker 1: do that. No, We're we're gonna we got it all.
- 34:12Speaker 1: The problem is that that the enthusiasm for the book.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Do you remember we did an episode of the podcast
- 34:18Speaker 1: called Begging and Pleading. It was like, basically, we just
- 34:21Speaker 1: told everyone's in the book. I think that to walk
- 34:24Speaker 1: through this new book's gonna take it's gonna be begging
- 34:27Speaker 1: and pleading part to A and B. Yep, you see
- 34:32Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And we're gonna spend two episodes walking
- 34:35Speaker 1: through the book. Everybody's got a order of the book,
- 34:39Speaker 1: Just prepare yourself. I don't think it's going to be
- 34:43Speaker 1: expensive per page. It's gonna be like barely that much
- 34:47Speaker 1: money per page. You're right, But I tell you what,
- 34:49Speaker 1: this is gonna be an expensive podcast the viewers because
- 34:54Speaker 1: of all this stuff they gotta do. Yeah, yeah, we're
- 34:56Speaker 1: not done. We're not done. You're not done selling, not
- 34:59Speaker 1: even close. Okay, So we gotta move on towards sales park.
- 35:02Speaker 1: We gotta introduced Adam. That was his three oh seven
- 35:04Speaker 1: hat area code. Yep, okay, not four our six, not
- 35:10Speaker 1: two oh six, and not nine oh seven three O seven,
- 35:14Speaker 1: one of those one of the small handful of single
- 35:16Speaker 1: area code states. For residents of that state tattoo that
- 35:20Speaker 1: area code onto their arm, and then I wonder what
- 35:22Speaker 1: happens when they split the area code or where a
- 35:24Speaker 1: hat we had Actually that's for people who aren't very committed.
- 35:29Speaker 1: We did a serial number of a gun and auctioned
- 35:32Speaker 1: it off for I don't know what, fifteen grand or
- 35:34Speaker 1: some fourteen or fourteen or fifteen thousand bucks because it
- 35:37Speaker 1: was serio number three oh seven w y zero zero
- 35:40Speaker 1: zero three zero seven fifteen grand for it. Really, there
- 35:45Speaker 1: was a large subculture of people that are obsessed with that. Yeah,
- 35:49Speaker 1: in Alaska, everybody gets nine oh seven tattoos and whatnot.
- 35:51Speaker 1: But I feel that at some point they're gonna split
- 35:53Speaker 1: the area codes. When I was a little boy, my
- 35:55Speaker 1: area code was six six. Now it's to three one
- 36:00Speaker 1: of what do I do with my tattoo? Then I'd
- 36:02Speaker 1: have to change it into like the mark of the Beast. Six.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Not gonna do that. No, I don't know. You're just
- 36:07Speaker 1: stuck with the side. So be forewarned. Well, when people
- 36:13Speaker 1: see that, they're just like, oh, he's o G. Or
- 36:18Speaker 1: you put a little number next to it and say
- 36:20Speaker 1: see footnotes and you can start tattooed footnote. So, Cal,
- 36:34Speaker 1: the Land Access Initiative, you just came back from a location.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I don't know if you can tell people what the
- 36:38Speaker 1: location is or not. Yeah, I just came back from
- 36:42Speaker 1: kind of a secret mission to Maine and UH I
- 36:46Speaker 1: was working with some nonprofits. UM, so you know, it's
- 36:51Speaker 1: essential travel for the good people. It's work related. It's
- 36:55Speaker 1: got to be good. It's work related and essential for
- 36:58Speaker 1: the people. So quick recap, big thank you to everybody
- 37:02Speaker 1: who's purchased ronella who tell us campaign merch Ronella patels.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Like we said, the proceeds from all of those sales
- 37:12Speaker 1: are going to more hunting and fishing somehow, someway, We're
- 37:17Speaker 1: gonna find access projects that provide more. That's the baseline. UH.
- 37:23Speaker 1: And we reviewed an incredible amount of submissions over the
- 37:29Speaker 1: last few months and started reaching out and and talking
- 37:34Speaker 1: to individual UH project owners across the US real quick.
- 37:40Speaker 1: With that process looked like for you, Cal, like what
- 37:43Speaker 1: you asked of folks. Yeah, so there's a big questionnaire
- 37:48Speaker 1: and then there are follow up questions, but uh, you know,
- 37:52Speaker 1: essentially it was you know, how familiar you are with
- 37:55Speaker 1: the project, what it provides, like, is it access to
- 38:00Speaker 1: a landlocked chunk of ground as it accessed water? Doesn't
- 38:04Speaker 1: provide opportunities for hunting and fishing both? What else can
- 38:10Speaker 1: you do out there? What's the habitat like? Is this
- 38:12Speaker 1: a habitat improvement project? Um? And really, you know, trying
- 38:20Speaker 1: to whittle down to because the hard part with this
- 38:24Speaker 1: stuff is you are never ever going to talk to
- 38:27Speaker 1: somebody who's like, yeah, it's not that great of a place,
- 38:32Speaker 1: but I just thought i'd throw it in there. You know,
- 38:34Speaker 1: everybody is very attached to their project, their piece of ground. Uh,
- 38:40Speaker 1: and they're and they're very passionate about it. Let me
- 38:43Speaker 1: take this back one quick, one step even further back
- 38:46Speaker 1: that what we're doing is we're maybe you just just said
- 38:48Speaker 1: this not just being stupid, didn't catch it, but we're
- 38:51Speaker 1: trying to we're raising money through Ronella who tells trying
- 38:56Speaker 1: to do to try to do some to try to
- 38:58Speaker 1: do land acquisition. Yes, and so cal was um soliciting
- 39:04Speaker 1: input where people who are the eyes and ears on
- 39:08Speaker 1: the landscape, people who would say, oh, you know, it
- 39:10Speaker 1: would be a sweet property if we could get into
- 39:13Speaker 1: the public domain. Yes, it was. Sorry, no, that's great.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I mean, um, the you know, I'll tell you right now.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And if this is you please right in call um
- 39:27Speaker 1: like the pie in this guy idea. Is someone out
- 39:32Speaker 1: there listening is going to be like, oh, well grandma,
- 39:35Speaker 1: granddad there they'd be totally happy to shave off a
- 39:42Speaker 1: long strip that connects to that huge chunk of national
- 39:46Speaker 1: forest that nobody can get to or BLM or something
- 39:49Speaker 1: like that. And and through a phone call and cutting
- 39:51Speaker 1: a check And wouldn't that be a sweet river access
- 39:55Speaker 1: on a chunk of river lake where no one can
- 39:57Speaker 1: get into it? Yeah? And uh, you know, we just
- 40:01Speaker 1: make a permanent easement for to get to get to
- 40:05Speaker 1: the public to go down there and enjoy um. And
- 40:09Speaker 1: then there's a huge variety of of projects that that
- 40:14Speaker 1: came in that were more complex the you know, we
- 40:19Speaker 1: ended up with folks that like, actually we're serious, filled
- 40:25Speaker 1: out everything, uh the way you're supposed to and had
- 40:31Speaker 1: an actual spot um that wasn't a mix of vague details,
- 40:37Speaker 1: um two to sixty four full submissions. Yeah. Yeah, and
- 40:46Speaker 1: and you know like I said, these were the people
- 40:48Speaker 1: that were serious enough to be putting in some thoughts
- 40:52Speaker 1: and then got those uh down quite a bit, um
- 40:58Speaker 1: to to something man gible. And now you're out doing
- 41:01Speaker 1: some Now you're out hitting the ground to try to
- 41:04Speaker 1: get the smell of the place. Ye and me a
- 41:07Speaker 1: beautiful photo of a waterfall. Yeah, and he found some
- 41:11Speaker 1: moose and deer tracks. Yeah. And this place is is
- 41:14Speaker 1: pretty unique because it's a body of water. Um. That is,
- 41:21Speaker 1: the property is contiguous and and in the heart of
- 41:27Speaker 1: this continuous property is a small lake, a pond um.
- 41:33Speaker 1: And uh, it's it's really cool. Uh. You know our
- 41:37Speaker 1: editor in chief, Anthony Locatta, Uh, he worked for a
- 41:43Speaker 1: very long time at Field and Stream. Before that publication
- 41:48Speaker 1: was called Field and Stream, it was called Forest and
- 41:52Speaker 1: Stream was the predecessor to Field and Stream. And this
- 41:56Speaker 1: body of water, uh was actually adver tized as a
- 42:01Speaker 1: place for folks to get out of the city and
- 42:03Speaker 1: come up and fish in. Yeah, yeah, they so are
- 42:11Speaker 1: you Is it secret or not secret? I don't want
- 42:13Speaker 1: to say that the actual township. Yeah, but this is
- 42:19Speaker 1: this should give plenty of idea, right like right now,
- 42:23Speaker 1: it's it's de facto public access it's in it's in Maine,
- 42:27Speaker 1: but it is private property. And what a lot of
- 42:28Speaker 1: folks don't realize about Maine is there is a ton
- 42:33Speaker 1: of access in the state, but it is primarily private
- 42:37Speaker 1: ground that just isn't posted. Don't you. I don't want
- 42:41Speaker 1: to get out ahead of ourselves here, but we're gonna
- 42:43Speaker 1: make a pledge to personally not ever go there to
- 42:46Speaker 1: fish or anything. Listen to this, because I don't want
- 42:49Speaker 1: anyone to think that it was that it was aish
- 42:52Speaker 1: Judy Fisher Hill. Yeah a little bit, you got it. Yeah,
- 42:58Speaker 1: he's just like taking it for he's taking it for
- 43:00Speaker 1: a test ride, man, and then don't go back. Uh
- 43:06Speaker 1: this camp that they had in their effishing their weekend
- 43:12Speaker 1: take was five hundred trout damn. Is it a property
- 43:19Speaker 1: that connects two more property? Yes, it does. It does
- 43:26Speaker 1: more access than just the property. It's it's a multi
- 43:28Speaker 1: year thing right now, it does, you know. But like
- 43:30Speaker 1: I said, there's with the the convoluted part of this
- 43:35Speaker 1: thing is uh there you know, there's groups working on
- 43:40Speaker 1: providing permanent access. Right now, there's access to that ground,
- 43:45Speaker 1: but it's not permanent. It's permanent in the fact that
- 43:49Speaker 1: the landowners that have it now, are its still have
- 43:52Speaker 1: the mindset that's been around Maine for a long long
- 43:56Speaker 1: time of I'm not using all this ground. I don't
- 43:59Speaker 1: need to post it. Folks want to occasionally walk through
- 44:01Speaker 1: here to deer hunt or pick mushrooms or whatever, that's
- 44:06Speaker 1: fine by me. Hunt grouse. We saw a ton of
- 44:09Speaker 1: a ton of grouse, ton of rough grouse. Um. And
- 44:15Speaker 1: uh yeah. But the hard part is is as these
- 44:19Speaker 1: lands change over right, there used to be like these
- 44:21Speaker 1: giant timber company lands up there. There still are some
- 44:25Speaker 1: major timber company lands. Um. That's really what people are
- 44:30Speaker 1: are doing a lot of hunting and fishing on. But
- 44:33Speaker 1: it's private, just like you guys experience here in western Montana.
- 44:37Speaker 1: There's kind of this de facto access program wiser lands
- 44:41Speaker 1: and yeah, and it's been around for so long people
- 44:43Speaker 1: are like, oh, that's just they don't even know what's
- 44:46Speaker 1: private property and they think it's us for a service
- 44:48Speaker 1: ground or something like that. Um, but it's like it
- 44:53Speaker 1: changes hands one more time and that new buyer is like, well, no, no, no,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I'm the privacy is what I want. Doesn't matter if
- 45:01Speaker 1: I'm only there a weekend or whatever. So it's the
- 45:03Speaker 1: goal to get a chunk shaved off that will just
- 45:05Speaker 1: allow access to the public ground that's behind it. Uh.
- 45:09Speaker 1: The goal right now would be to you, uh, would
- 45:11Speaker 1: be to purchase this acreage that includes the pond um
- 45:16Speaker 1: that there's a defined easement in place right now, little
- 45:22Speaker 1: parking area, um footage, it's right now. It's foot access
- 45:26Speaker 1: only into the pond um and it the cool part
- 45:30Speaker 1: here is this township has zero public land owned by
- 45:34Speaker 1: the township, and this would be the very first chunk
- 45:38Speaker 1: of public land. Even though like it's it's fully documented
- 45:42Speaker 1: that this township people growing up and living and raising
- 45:46Speaker 1: families there. They've they've been utilizing this place, um since
- 45:50Speaker 1: you know, well before got a little publicity and forest
- 45:56Speaker 1: and stream. But because it toured a new one on traveled,
- 45:59Speaker 1: they toured a new one in the raft and they're like,
- 46:01Speaker 1: bring more camps. There's a lot relieving out because like
- 46:04Speaker 1: a little like details. But uh, where we might land
- 46:09Speaker 1: is this. So we got some money in the in
- 46:10Speaker 1: the in the campaign confers. Um. But the election happens
- 46:16Speaker 1: in November, right, so we'll take office. It's like the
- 46:21Speaker 1: campaign will be going anymore. Um, we'll have a new
- 46:25Speaker 1: Secretary of egg dug during we got our whole cabinet,
- 46:27Speaker 1: a T F Ronnie Bam, Pat Durk and Secretary of
- 46:30Speaker 1: the Navy. We got the whole cabinet filled out. But
- 46:33Speaker 1: in the meantime, as long as you buy Ronald Patels
- 46:36Speaker 1: better hunting and Fishing for America stuff, it goes into
- 46:41Speaker 1: the our kiddy of money. When our kiddy of money
- 46:44Speaker 1: is right and we identify our place, there might be
- 46:48Speaker 1: a discrepancy, right, And when we identify what exactly that
- 46:54Speaker 1: discrepancy is, there's gonna be a mad dash for to
- 46:57Speaker 1: to find ways to get the support we need to
- 47:00Speaker 1: push it across the finish line in a hurry. But
- 47:02Speaker 1: don't dig into your book buying money. You gotta have
- 47:08Speaker 1: a severate pile of money. We're gonna you're gonna have to.
- 47:11Speaker 1: You got a many piggy jars here, um uh, your
- 47:15Speaker 1: piggy banks rather the The other thing to keep in
- 47:19Speaker 1: mind is, just like I said, you're never gonna go
- 47:23Speaker 1: out be invited out to check out something that people
- 47:27Speaker 1: don't care very passionately about. They all have an incredible
- 47:30Speaker 1: amount of value um and I I do not want
- 47:37Speaker 1: people to think like this is a one and done
- 47:39Speaker 1: thing like, Um, this is uh the something the Cabinet's
- 47:46Speaker 1: gonna push very strong for for multiple years, UM and
- 47:54Speaker 1: hope that we can have just a long lasting program
- 47:58Speaker 1: funded permanently fund exactly just like l WCF. Yeah, so
- 48:03Speaker 1: the cow and Cal's work on this, he's expanded or
- 48:05Speaker 1: this isn't This isn't a one off. This is not
- 48:08Speaker 1: a one off. So Cal's gonna become like Ted Turner
- 48:14Speaker 1: ranches and stuff all over the place, the inverse of like, yeah,
- 48:18Speaker 1: I know about ranches all over the place, but yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 1: so this this is a cool project. Uh. Found some
- 48:24Speaker 1: moose tracks, found some deer tracks. Uh, there's a loon
- 48:27Speaker 1: that comes in there every night. Um, catch any fish?
- 48:30Speaker 1: One mallard in there? I uh my longlined released some
- 48:36Speaker 1: some very small brick trout um and then uh what
- 48:41Speaker 1: the heck else to really found two really cool frogs.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Um still did a little uh chewing on some different
- 48:51Speaker 1: plants species. Uh you go swimming? Is it a good
- 48:54Speaker 1: swim pond? Yeah, it would be if it's deep. So
- 48:59Speaker 1: I wasn't jumped in the water here in June. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:02Speaker 1: you thought it would be chill? Yeah, where the Skeeter's
- 49:06Speaker 1: bad I have a mosquito bite or like right in
- 49:09Speaker 1: the very top of the gluteo crease that happens to
- 49:13Speaker 1: be since I know, so when you scratch that, people
- 49:16Speaker 1: think like you're not clean. Well yeah, and on top
- 49:19Speaker 1: of that, like because I don't don't have a lot
- 49:22Speaker 1: of meat on my butt, my pants like to ride
- 49:24Speaker 1: right about there. It's just it's highly irritating. So as
- 49:29Speaker 1: if we didn't want to shake hands for COVID, now
- 49:31Speaker 1: we don't want to shake hand for exactly exactly. So that'sdemic.
- 49:40Speaker 1: There's a huge project in Wyoming that's that's very cool. Um,
- 49:44Speaker 1: that's that's being worked on by Shoutout three or seven. Yeah. Um.
- 49:49Speaker 1: And there's a great project here in Montana that I'm actually, um,
- 49:54Speaker 1: gonna have a phone call on here this evening too.
- 49:57Speaker 1: So you haven't made the call yet, but you flew
- 49:59Speaker 1: out there just to kind of feel it out right, Yeah. Yeah.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Pavement for Yeah, the pavement for Access man. Yeah, and
- 50:11Speaker 1: then there's so much more to go like this. Yeah.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Like I said, we're gonna we're gonna be beaten on
- 50:15Speaker 1: this stuff for a long time because um, you know,
- 50:19Speaker 1: it's now or never for all of this stuff. I'd
- 50:21Speaker 1: like to buy a whole state. Would because the whole
- 50:25Speaker 1: state when you go to the meteor dot com to
- 50:28Speaker 1: buy some Ronella Patelis merchandise, don't limit yourself or don't
- 50:33Speaker 1: think that you're gonna limit yourself to a T shirt.
- 50:35Speaker 1: There's hats, there's brown ones, there's Blaze orange ones, hunters
- 50:39Speaker 1: orange for hunting season, sticks, bumper stickers. I think there's
- 50:43Speaker 1: a small oval stick or two. There's a reusable cloth
- 50:48Speaker 1: bag if you don't like to use the old plastic
- 50:50Speaker 1: bags the grocery store. What else? Yard signs? Do they sell? Those? Really?
- 50:56Speaker 1: Do we have? Yard signs? Might be coming? It was
- 51:02Speaker 1: a salesman for a while Tarming and Sports. I can
- 51:05Speaker 1: tell um he was a salesman and then he was
- 51:10Speaker 1: the song and we just played it is actually called
- 51:11Speaker 1: long tang Yanni, isn't it? Because he was a grill
- 51:16Speaker 1: man that uh, don't tell me, Joannie. He's a grill
- 51:21Speaker 1: man at Tuscaninis. Good work. And he was a salesman
- 51:26Speaker 1: at Tarming Sports and he led in did you leading sales?
- 51:30Speaker 1: Yeah no, no, that wasn't definitely not No. We don't
- 51:38Speaker 1: keep track. What's going on? Tell us what's going on
- 51:41Speaker 1: the weather. Be you guys are all getting all cozy
- 51:43Speaker 1: in your new headquarters. Yeah, no doubt about that. We are.
- 51:47Speaker 1: We're actually actually shut down. Did you get shut down
- 51:50Speaker 1: because of No, it's it's the three or seven. We
- 51:53Speaker 1: do what we want. Um, they still respect liberty down there. Yeah. Yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 1: my wife heads up HR so that's helpful too. But no,
- 52:01Speaker 1: we got a direct line. No, we had. You know,
- 52:03Speaker 1: we didn't shut down, but you know, we had. We
- 52:06Speaker 1: got a big factory. Were all able to kind of
- 52:08Speaker 1: social distance keep our things going. We got a lot
- 52:10Speaker 1: of room in there. Yeah, yeah, we do. I mean
- 52:12Speaker 1: it's it's all you gotta depend on a supply chain
- 52:15Speaker 1: from around the world coming in and customers to ship too.
- 52:17Speaker 1: So every day there for a while it was a
- 52:19Speaker 1: little hectic trying to figure out what's going on. But
- 52:21Speaker 1: we're all healthy and we're making guns. Did you um,
- 52:24Speaker 1: did you guys run into problem uh, problems where components
- 52:29Speaker 1: you needed were coming from places that weren't able to
- 52:31Speaker 1: produce components. Yeah. The reason to bring this up is
- 52:33Speaker 1: that was at sports was warehouse. We're going fishing this
- 52:36Speaker 1: week up with the kids. I had to go grab
- 52:38Speaker 1: like you know, sinkers, bobbers, bait holder hooks, all that
- 52:42Speaker 1: kind of stuff. The tends to get left and all
- 52:44Speaker 1: the trees around the intends get left push around um
- 52:49Speaker 1: to stripped clean. I mean the store is stripped clean.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I'm guessing that's a function of supply chain and demand,
- 52:59Speaker 1: you know, to it's it's really both. I mean in
- 53:02Speaker 1: firearms right now, obviously everybody's been kind of reading there's
- 53:05Speaker 1: crazy things going on. Are are our product line because
- 53:08Speaker 1: we're kind of more of a you know, primarily hunting,
- 53:11Speaker 1: you know, less self defense and that sort of thing.
- 53:13Speaker 1: So we didn't see the spike. Everybody else same with
- 53:17Speaker 1: just the sustenance and going out there and harveston mile
- 53:19Speaker 1: meat and catch the mole fish and just getting outdoors.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Finally too, I think there's a delay on that and
- 53:23Speaker 1: people have been a little trapped. And but the supply
- 53:26Speaker 1: chain was certainly there. I mean, we have a lot
- 53:28Speaker 1: of components. Say go into one rifle and so I
- 53:31Speaker 1: mean one spring can hold up a whole rifle from
- 53:34Speaker 1: going out the door. But you didn't run into that.
- 53:36Speaker 1: We ran into not not bad, We ran into some stuff.
- 53:39Speaker 1: We were kind of fortunate and yeah, maybe not even weeks.
- 53:43Speaker 1: But we were fortunate. Some of the bumps we had
- 53:45Speaker 1: were the things we already had product of, and the
- 53:47Speaker 1: things we needed we kind of had, so we're just yeah,
- 53:51Speaker 1: I didn't really appreciate the lengths of where that of
- 53:55Speaker 1: how that stuff would affect manufacturing. But I was even
- 53:58Speaker 1: trying to find a part for jet foot on an
- 54:01Speaker 1: outboard engine, and well, I call this guy and he's like, man,
- 54:06Speaker 1: you and everybody in the country. I'm like, how many
- 54:08Speaker 1: people are actually looking for like an impellers sleep because
- 54:11Speaker 1: they're all gone. There's like one guy in California that
- 54:15Speaker 1: makes him he can't go into his plant because there
- 54:17Speaker 1: are none. If you find one. Let me know. The
- 54:19Speaker 1: weird demand and the supply chain stuff, and I mean,
- 54:22Speaker 1: it's it's weird. And of course we you know, shipped
- 54:24Speaker 1: a gun dealers around the country and everybody with FFLs,
- 54:28Speaker 1: and it's like, man, we had a COVID hold list
- 54:30Speaker 1: of just different states and different things and who you
- 54:33Speaker 1: could chip two and who you couldn't lose. Definitely nuts
- 54:36Speaker 1: For a while, some of our distributors had some of
- 54:39Speaker 1: their best days in history, like ten of them in
- 54:43Speaker 1: a row, and so they're telling us, hey, pause for
- 54:46Speaker 1: a minute on some of the hunting stuff because we
- 54:48Speaker 1: gotta get nine mill and two to three m O
- 54:50Speaker 1: up in. Yeah. Yeah, but that's probably cool. I don't know,
- 54:55Speaker 1: maybe that's cool off a little bit. Now we're in
- 54:57Speaker 1: riot season. Yeah, I still think it's pretty Yeah, it
- 55:00Speaker 1: actually upticked again now with all the violence in the
- 55:04Speaker 1: country and stuff, so it's everybody's scared. Yeah, So it's
- 55:07Speaker 1: you know, we've seen fear bind over the years, politically
- 55:10Speaker 1: driven a lot or unfortunately, say after you know, some
- 55:13Speaker 1: sort of tragedy in the country, some guys come out
- 55:15Speaker 1: say we're gonna, you know, pull an out more fund
- 55:17Speaker 1: on you and you know that sort of thing, and
- 55:19Speaker 1: you know, take your guns, and it spikes and for
- 55:21Speaker 1: us in our line, like people like, wow, he must
- 55:24Speaker 1: be selling a lot of guns right now. We're again
- 55:26Speaker 1: we try to make just a good quality product for
- 55:28Speaker 1: you to go taking the outdoors. It's not as much
- 55:31Speaker 1: that fear buying stuff, but it affects the whole industry.
- 55:34Speaker 1: So the demand is different, what dealers stock is different,
- 55:38Speaker 1: what they have, what they don't have, where their attention is,
- 55:41Speaker 1: so the whole thing kind of affects. It's a kind
- 55:43Speaker 1: of a giant you know pool that everything kind of
- 55:46Speaker 1: gets mixed up in. But for us, we just like stable,
- 55:49Speaker 1: like this is what our customers want, we want to
- 55:50Speaker 1: make it, we want to get it to them. So
- 55:52Speaker 1: it's a it's a little different rather than the because
- 55:54Speaker 1: after a big high, you get a big lower because
- 55:57Speaker 1: then you get everything overstocked. Everybody discounts it, rebates it,
- 56:00Speaker 1: and so it's a little messy. So we just try
- 56:02Speaker 1: to provide more consistency. We were I can't remember who
- 56:06Speaker 1: else taking the other day, we were visiting about the
- 56:09Speaker 1: the um, either the real or perceived twenty two ammo
- 56:14Speaker 1: scare of what the hell here was that? But the
- 56:19Speaker 1: thing is like it feeds on itself because I never
- 56:22Speaker 1: thought anything about twenty two shells. I mean, I always
- 56:25Speaker 1: if I need twos, i'd go and buy like one
- 56:27Speaker 1: of those slidey c C I whatever, like, hey, there's
- 56:31Speaker 1: twenty two shows. But the minute I heard it was
- 56:34Speaker 1: the shortest twenty two shells that walk into a store
- 56:36Speaker 1: and I see twenty two shells and I'd buy them all.
- 56:39Speaker 1: Or you see, like there's a limit of a limit
- 56:41Speaker 1: of one thousand, twenty two shells, and I'd be like well,
- 56:44Speaker 1: I'll be damn if I'm not buying a thousand even
- 56:47Speaker 1: though I need zero. That's right. And I even saw,
- 56:51Speaker 1: like during that shortage, it was that I was in
- 56:54Speaker 1: a Cabela's one time. You couldn't buy twenty two am
- 56:57Speaker 1: if you didn't get a Cabella's credit card. To get AMMO.
- 57:04Speaker 1: You had sign up for a credit card I remember
- 57:06Speaker 1: you had. If you you can only get it if
- 57:07Speaker 1: you bought a gun. Like I remember I would walk
- 57:10Speaker 1: into Best Pro Shop and you could buy a twenty
- 57:12Speaker 1: two rifle and you only got the twenty two AMO
- 57:14Speaker 1: if you bought that rifle. Little combos like that flying
- 57:18Speaker 1: all over the place. And then there's articles being written
- 57:21Speaker 1: where people thought that there's all these conspiracy theories, but
- 57:24Speaker 1: it was basically in the end, it seems like the
- 57:27Speaker 1: main argument is UH, people to manufacture ammunition, tool up
- 57:32Speaker 1: to manufacture certain kinds of ammunition, and then they tool
- 57:36Speaker 1: up and do other runs, and they were just busy
- 57:38Speaker 1: doing not two. It is true making AMMO, you gotta
- 57:43Speaker 1: do big, big runs of certain things. There's really long
- 57:46Speaker 1: lead times, like making brass you know doesn't happen overnight,
- 57:49Speaker 1: and you know, getting powder there can be powder shortages
- 57:51Speaker 1: to the different things. So it is true, like you
- 57:53Speaker 1: can't just flip a switch, you know, and do that.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Like it's months of planning in advance for that. Yeah,
- 58:00Speaker 1: so two shells and now uh and masks. Yeah, thing like,
- 58:08Speaker 1: because I'm not loading my own AMMO anymore? Can I
- 58:12Speaker 1: like collect all my weather be brass and just send
- 58:15Speaker 1: it to an address and you guys will take it
- 58:19Speaker 1: back and make it into come down with the pocketful
- 58:24Speaker 1: will help you out? Or like for Federal ammo, can
- 58:28Speaker 1: you have all that brass and just chip it off
- 58:32Speaker 1: to Federal just as like a recycling program. What happens
- 58:35Speaker 1: if you mail it back to him? Yeah, we actually
- 58:40Speaker 1: sell our once fired brass that we use in our
- 58:43Speaker 1: testing brass. Yeah, as we go through it, we repackage
- 58:47Speaker 1: it into over packaging and we sell it because it's
- 58:51Speaker 1: you sell it as brass online. We'll just go, okay,
- 58:55Speaker 1: we got a bunch of it from our ranges and
- 58:57Speaker 1: then just put it on like a day later. It's
- 58:59Speaker 1: just gone going and eat it up. Like is it
- 59:02Speaker 1: like a like a mixed platter, like a chef's platter.
- 59:07Speaker 1: You don't really just sweep up the floor into a
- 59:12Speaker 1: garbage bag instead. They're not making jewelry out of the stuff,
- 59:17Speaker 1: so they don't have a spent primer. So you gotta
- 59:19Speaker 1: get the primer out on your own and if you
- 59:21Speaker 1: want to tumble it, whatever you want to do. The
- 59:23Speaker 1: guys that want it, you just count and you sell it.
- 59:26Speaker 1: You just sell it as doom people a favorite. It's
- 59:28Speaker 1: not like a lot of money. It's better than us
- 59:30Speaker 1: just recycling it, because that'd be the next best things.
- 59:33Speaker 1: We can't sell it as new ammo if if it's
- 59:36Speaker 1: already been shot, because it's you know, the annealing lines
- 59:39Speaker 1: is gonna be a little bit different and it's gonna
- 59:40Speaker 1: look a little more dull, So we don't it's not
- 59:43Speaker 1: worth the time to retumble and reanneal and do all
- 59:46Speaker 1: that stuff. So you guys had some really nice brass. Yeah,
- 59:50Speaker 1: well thank you, honest nice brass. The how many times
- 59:57Speaker 1: can you read the lood a shell? Oh, it's depends
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: on the brass, and it depends on the cartridge. It does,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: so anywhere give me a more satisfying answer. That's a
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: rabbit hole. Five. Yeah, the comments will fly in. Well
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: I've done don't know. Yeah, I mean there you'll find
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: people that will say they'll only load it three times,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and then you'll have people that depending on the load
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: that they make, that they've developed, that they've shot for years,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: they might load it five times. The risk being that
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: something eventually weakens. Yeah, but you find that in the loading,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: not in the shooting. So your neck, you know, as
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: you're resizing, it's going to begin to have problems that So. Yeah,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: so it's not the integrity of it necessarily, you know
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: when you're firing it, but you can tell when it's
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: you know, the neck might start to crack. Um, you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: know a different things as you're doing it sort of
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: just weaken. Now you generally see it before you pull
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: the trigger. You know it was played out. And uh,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: but you when you sell ammy, you don't sell one.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: People aren't into that. What all of our m o's
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: never been fired, I mean on the on the case itself.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: So and then when we're doing our testing or load
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: development or whatever, we've got to just piles and piles
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: of brass. So we'll just sell that as once fired
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: brass after we shoot it. How many times do you um,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: does every rifle get shot? Good question, Yes, every rifle
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: actually gets a proof load. Through it. Okay, so not everyone,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: you know, we still thousands against Um, I'm not personally
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: going down Everybody thinks my grandpa, did I know that
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I go down there personally shoot a target and send
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: it off to everybody. But um, obviously we we a
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: lot test for accuracy, and do I mean we accuracy
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: test with you know, two underground ranges. You guys have
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: seen it, and we do accuracy testing every single day. Um.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: So whether that's we got a new barrel, whether that's
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: we got a new cartridge, a different load, a different
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: type of prowder powder, a different lot of you know,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: certain bullets, a different lot of brass, I mean everything.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: You a different contour barrel, different type of steel in
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: the barrel, a different type of carbon fiber. But all
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: those things are going to affect the accuracy betting. So
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: all of those things send us down to the range.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Every gun, every rifle is actually shot with a proof load,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: and that proofload is actually loaded hotter, so like it's
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: we actually there. The loads are colored so you know that, um,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: they're beyond you know usually say a load depending upon
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: the cartridges in the low sixty thousand something p s.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: I So obviously we're that's what's going on inside the chamber, correct,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: So you know, we're delivering a product every day to
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: customers that are putting you know, sixty plus ps I
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: within inches somebody's face. That's what's your tire on your truck.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: So it's like it's obviously something you're not underneath truck.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: You're putting it foot and a half away from your
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: kid's head, you know. So it's it's crazy stuff. So
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: obviously the development our action is really important there so
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: that we and tell the integrity of it. So every
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: rifle that we produce has a proofload through it and
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: in depending on that load, who makes those proofloads either,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: it depends, like the Ammo companies actually do so different
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Ammo companies do. We make some, but then we'll get them,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: you know, you can buy them through. I mean, you
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: name an Ammo company, you know they're gonna probably have
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: a proofload department. Oh, I don't know about that. I
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: don't think so, I don't know, because what it is
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: is you're giving it. So if it's let's say normally
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: you're sid max p S. I getting technical here. I
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: know you do that on your podcast from time to time.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: But the Sammy speck kind of the governing regular governing agency.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: If you would of those safety type of things for firearms,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: let's say it's sixty that proofload could be eighty five
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: p s I. So if a guy goes in hand loads,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: not that we've ever had any customers put the wrong powder,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: say in the cartridge before ever the wildcat. No. No,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: we have a customer service department for a reason, but
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: for a lot of reasons. But so we actually put
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: that so it's hot in there. So if for some
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: reason all the things went wrong, uh, customer handload, put
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: different pattern, all those things that we know that the
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: structural integrity of that action is going to hold up
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: with a proofload in there. UM. So every rifle has
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: a proofload that goes through it. Uh. And then uh, yeah,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: we have like a it's a proofload uh fixture trap.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: So it's not like you're scoping that up and going
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: down to the range because you're not doing anything for accuracy.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: When you're doing you want to make sure it functions.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: So we actually have a fixture that we put it in,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: UM and it goes into that fixture and it's in
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: a room about the size of this podcast room, and uh,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: there's a there's a blast shield that comes over it.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: So any and it's triggered remotely if you do have
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: some kind of thing, right, we do value the lives
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: and health of our employees, so so it goes in,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: so it goes into this trap you know, kind of
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: in the room. So it's just a safety type of
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: thing that happens with it. Um and then the accuracy
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: happens on a frequent basis. But not everyone you know,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: is shot and that depends we have a range certified
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: type of thing or you know, custom guns are a
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: different story. But yeah, and then so the reason that's
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: great to know, I don't know all that, but the
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: reason was asking is too much info? Do you know?
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: Not at all? But do you then go clean it
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: so someone doesn't buy it and it looks like it's
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: been shot. Do people look and they want to look
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: like I've been shot? Well, there's an actual process and
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: then you know, plus there's a break in procedure that
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: we recommend for our rifles as well, So you know
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: that somebody's gonna do um, you know, upon getting their rifles.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: So they're gonna you know, get it and do a
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: bunch of break in, So usually you want it to
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: dirty up just a bit. How real is the break
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: in process in your mind? So I feel like it's
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: like a thing that a lot of people just ignore. Yeah,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: So we actually just did our weather be podcast. We
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: did a full episode on break in because it's one
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: of the most asked questions we get. Meaning they phrase
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: it like, do I really have take the time to
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: do forty rounds of whether be munition down the pipe?
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Does it help? Does it not? I still can't get
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: to shoot. So we actually, um, we actually just updated
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: our breaking process about a month ago. Our engineers have
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: actually been doing a lot of a lot of testing
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: on that recently to really see and and to be honest,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: it does help. And it's fling and cleaning. So you
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: have the you know, the rifling process of that barrel.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Accuracy is so dependent upon barrel quality inconsistency, and so
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: you have a chunk of steel that you've really put
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: a lot of stress into. So you've drilled it, you've
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: reamed it, you've rifled it, honed it, you know, done
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: all these different things, lapped it to the inside of
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: that barrel, and so a lot of it, you know,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: as that bullet catches the rifling inside of there and
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: those lands and grooves and as it travels through there. Um.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: Really what you're doing is is breaking in the inside
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: of that bore um in essence, so that as it
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: goes through there's consistency um as it does that. Obviously,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: it's not like we send it out with birds. I mean,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: all those things are checked. But really, when you're firing,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: you're truly breaking that in I guess you know, but
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: you're you're, in some minor way changing the inside of
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: it until it gets like to a state of bullets
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: going through that thing so fast that it's that it
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: is changing it a little bit at a time. And
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: so when you send three bullets down it, you know
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: are breaking procedures. Three shots clean it, three shots clean it.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Which asked me, if I ever do that? Yeah, so
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: that's it's a loaded question. Anyways, it's a loaded question, Tea.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: You've got a lot of people that won't adhere to
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: it and probably are just fine. And then you've got
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: a lot of people that buy a weather be rifle
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: that's a quality item and they follow the procedure, and
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: that's good. It's good either way. But as we've seen
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: testing in the recent months, uh and as we look
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: at it on data from the engineers. I personally do
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: think it matters. We got graphs and I mean, so
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: we've done all that and it does matter. I have
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: picked vanguards out of a box in a three hundred
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: weather being just gone down to the range and shot
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: subb half minute, you know of angle groups, I mean,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: just just right out of the box. There's there's so
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: much of a variance to even from barrel to barrel
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: of the same factory, bullet to bullet, and that's what's crazy,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: and it's hard, and it blows engineers minds a little
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: bit because they don't like it. They like to say,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: here's a formula and this works. And there are certain
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: things obviously to make an accurate rifle, like inherently accurate.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: But it's amazing the variation that you will get in
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: anybody's rifles from gun to gun bullet, you know what
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: loads it might like. You might have a you know,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: a six weather be I have a six factory in
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: a wather the same model, and yours likes a different
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: bullet than mine. It's crazy every time. It is probably
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: because that that barrel is whatever is long, and there's
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: just differences in there. We need to come back to
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: this when we talk about the next thing, because there's
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: a good tie in to the to the next thing
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: and break in and what happens to a group on
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: a personal collaboration type thing that we're gonna cal went
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: out today and uh and shot a group and the
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: first two was was actually we thought the second shot
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: missed the paper, but it was through his first same hole. Yeah,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: like Robin Hood, dude, he broke it in today and
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: actually shot four and five, he shot five. One and
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: two were in the same one and four and five
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: were in the same hole. Really, how far apart were
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: one in two and four and five? And what happened
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: to three? Well, three was solid question between their less
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: than an inch and a half apart. Three was only
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: from one and two. Three was I would say point
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: six point seven away from one and two. Four and
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: five got a little bit high high or something group,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: But real quick the breaking period before we leave leave
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: that basically forty rounds at shots at a time, and no,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: not forty So you said forty I think something said
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: give us the summary. A one is there's a lot
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: of information on weatherby dot com. But um uh you can.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: We suggest now one box of AMMO. And we did
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: this strategically because it's difficult. We don't want people to
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: have to buy more AMMO than they need to use.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Because amo in in today's time, even if you're shooting
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: six five creed more is fairly expensive, even compared to
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: any magnum load you're looking at. AMMO prices have just
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: gone up in general. But um we suggest a one
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: box break in. We wanted to make it less than
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: forty rounds, and with all the testing we've recently done,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: we felt confident in being able to change that break
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: in period to a one box um and so we
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: suggest doing it with two different loads because as Adam said,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: it might like a one thirty or it might like
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: a one forty. And if you're gonna shoot it anyways,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: grain bullet. If you're gonna shoot it anyways and pick
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: the best bullet, you might as well figure out which
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: one it is during break in. It also just helps
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: with the fouling of the barrel. So we suggest a
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: one box break in. It's generally I believe three shots clean,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: three shots clean, resting in the middle because of the
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: heat of the barrel. You want it to cool um
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: and in the middle of that you'll know a lot
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: about your rifle. By the end of the break in,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: do you got to clean that rifle or that barrel
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: six or seven times during that session? And when you
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: say clean it, you're talking like, so this is the
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: other side of your conversation, is that that's also very
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: much so up to the shooter. Uh. Some people might
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: use hoppies or hops, whichever way you want to say it,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: or two brands. I don't understand. It's just number three.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: So no, is there any arguments you made for the
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: it not not being hoppies? I I just hear I
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: hear different all the time. There's there's a number of
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: board cleaners that work. I think the key is that
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: you get it wet, you clean it, and then you
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: patch it till it's dry. I'll tell you what, I
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: got a bottle of it. Man, It's like it feels
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: like like you could get real high off it. What
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: the sweet seven point six to You got to be
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: careful with that stuff. That stuff is heavy duty. Well
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: it's it's like but it's a it's for getting copper out.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I get yeah, and you can get copper. Another subject
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: I bought full on head deal. You know what I'm
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: trying to say, respirator, respirator just for cleaning in general.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: I got I got for gun cleaning. I got to
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: be like, I don't know, man, you just in there
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: and it's you know, really, Stephen Ronnella, that ain't gonna
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: be what kills you is respirator. He and Brody just
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: got done with the best book ever. He just doesn't
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: want to lose any of that good stuff. Yes, Steven Ronell,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: that ain't gonna be what kills you. Roannella, Uh, that'll
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: give you a bad headache. That's what I found. I
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: found that I felt that, um it was subtle, but
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: I felt that my when I'm certain solvents, I felt
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: I would I was getting a little like a little buzz.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: No once by the time I muld have been like
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: to go out and smell my solvents, but not at
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: this At this point in my life, I don't need
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: any I mean, maybe I'll have uch a lot of
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: but I definitely don't need like chemical buzz. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: there's a lot o data in our data. Around round twelve,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: it was consistently when you would start to see um
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: improved group flattening out? Yeah, no, kidding. Cool. And when
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: you guys are cleaning them, are you cleaning them cleaning
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: them bristles and wire brushes? Yeah, But if it's a protocol,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: if if you're suggesting something, we don't don't they have
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: a protocol. You were not talking against ms nor engineers.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: They're down in the basement and they have a very
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: tight protocol. We don't know that protocol. That protocol, Kett
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: saying that phone grew right back, texting just fine over here,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: does your phone recognize the growing back thumb because it
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: was before it was before the well, I'll tell you,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: I froze my thumb this winner and and uh my
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: phone wouldn't recognize my frozen thumb. Oh no, sometimes this phone,
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: depending on yeah, depending on certain times. I've once multiple
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: times tried to touch a button, been like, I don't
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: know what if you regenerated thumb. This is the regenerated thumb.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Series calls him by a different name, Dave, are we
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: waiting for you to do? I was looking at that.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I was looking at that. Go go to weather dot
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: com and check out the barrel break in person. You're
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: also gonna tell about something. So I remember all the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: piggy banks everybody's got laying around, So you got your
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: piggy bank to buy the book. Yeah, tell the name
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: of the book, Brony the Meat Eater's Guide to Wilderness
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Skills and Survival. No, you got it wrong. We we
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: we batted around because listen, it was the Metator Fishing
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Game Cookbook. So we thought there was a minute where
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: we're almost going to change tack and call it meat
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Eaters the like Meat Eaters Guide to Wilderness Skills and Survival.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: But then in the end went with the meat Eater
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Guide to Wilderness Skills and Survival have been apostrophe as
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: or as apostrophe. Good question. You didn't get apostrophe. And
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: my my beloved agent Mark I thought that, um for
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: like when people are searching stuff, He said, you don't.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: You don't change stuff like that, man like searchability on books,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: you know, like when people you want everything to be consistent.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: So that's what it is. It's a sweet cover at all. Anyway,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: that's only a small portion of your piggy banks and quarters. Yeah,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: that's a bank. Then you got bank for buying up
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: all Cal's ranch land and ponds and whatnot. That tell
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: us campaign merchandise where your proceeds go to providing more
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: or better hunting and fishing for America, not Cal's private
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: land bank. But it is the man which is deeded, damn.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: And they're all just like I never read the contract.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Cal just buying all
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: this stuff for himself. And what you're gonna need to
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: go hunt Col's land if he lets you on is
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: our new rifle. That's right now. I could call it
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: the meat Eater weather Be you call the weather Be
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: meat I'll leave that up to you. What we call
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: today when we're filming it is the weather Be Vanguard
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: Meat Eater Special Edition. How about the meat Eaters Special Edition.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Whether you're trying to Steve and giant letters and weather
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: vangor we're on top of the world. So the weather
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Being Vanguard Meat Eater Special Edition rifle, which we I
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: think we recorded a podcast probably March a last year.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: We start to have a dialogue about it, I think
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: a little bit because I'd be like, you know what
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: you ought to do? Yeah, you've done that a few
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: times now, Steve. We did a little over a year later,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: and I remember we just sat around and kind of said, hey,
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: what about if we eat? Since we're partners now and
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: you know, uh, you know, doing these things together, let's
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: try to do something that's unique, different in, something that
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: has a lot of features that are important to you guys.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: And it's coming out later this month, June June. And
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: speaking of can we talk about I was talking? Can
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: we talk about the place I was talking about earlier? Yea, yeah,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: I mean we're doing Yeah, let's do it in it's
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: actually exclusive, first time anybody's ever heard about it. Yes, yes,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: this podcast will be the first we find sports and
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: where else. It will be exclusively at Sportsman's Warehouse and
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: weatherby dot com. You can buy it directly from weatherby
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: dot com if you drove here. Here's my here's my my,
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: my promise. Um. I've learned a lot of terms. One
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: of the terms I hate is the term value proposition. Okay,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: so I'm not going to use that, but that's what
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: you mean, that's what you want to use. Why should
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: you buy this thing? Yeah? Like, here's my like a
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: value proposition. If you were to make a line, a
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: line representing like like, um, quality and a line representing
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: um being like, what's the word I'm looking for, economically responsible,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: what's a better term for that? This is where those
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: lines like listening to your wife about buying no, like,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: no thing is gonna do this better than that. That's
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: what I think we tried to do in this rifle.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I mean it is another way of saying, is you
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: get a little bang for your buck. Yeah, that's that's yeah,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: in terms of bang for your buck for like a
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: a thousand dollars. You know, it's not thousand dollars a
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: thousand dollar rifle that's like custom rifle features just cool looking,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: good shooting, available in multiple cartridges. It's just that you're
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: not gonna like you are, am I allowed to say
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: this kind You're not not gonna do better? That's this
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: kind of stuff. Yeah, you're right, Yeah, yeah, I think
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: it is that it is that value and in that
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: sweet spot less than a thousand I mean will be
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: on the sportsman's warehouse shelf. You know, you can go
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: pick it up. And one of the things I think
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: that's really cool about it is it looks real different.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: And I think Steve, that's one thing you guys shared
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: with us initially is like, what's something we could do that.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: When you look at that, you go, that's the weather
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: be meat eat gun that meets something or other. Uh No,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: but you know that's that meat eater rifle that's there,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: and that's different. And so we uh, this is our
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: first production rifle that we've ever done with a spiral
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: fluted barrel. We've been fluting barrels probably since the nineties. Uh.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Actually having it, which you know aids in heat dissipation,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: primarily adds a little bit to the rigidity of the barrel,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: but but really it helps it to cool more because
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: it gives it more surface area. But really we say
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: all that and that's cool, but people buy fluid barrels
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: because they look cool and they look different, and that's
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: the number one reason. And then this one has spiral
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: old flutes which kind of make it even stand out more.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: And that was something when you guys like, what can
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: we do? We haven't done. You can tell you're walking
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: down Sportsman's warehouse, Wow, that up to that glass case
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: full of pistols and knives, and that you'll be able
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: to tell from a long ways away we gotta meat
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: eater logoed floor plate on it on the bottom, so
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: when it's sitting in the gun rack, you'll be able
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: to see the cool meat Eater logo from behind the
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: pistol counter as well. And those I think will be
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: in the paint job because we did the Seraco with it,
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: tried to match Serco to the metalwork with our don't
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: go light on Seraco because that's like, because there's nothing
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: more depressing. And I've had this hat to me. You
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: buy a new rifle and just watching the thing rost man,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: like if you go out, you know, and it's one
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: trip to the old fish shack. Yeah, you go to
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: the fish shack and just watch your stuff. Ross is depressing.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: It's hard and people, it's like at the end of
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: the day when you're back at camp or in your
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: tent or in your like, are you thinking, I really
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: gotta wipe down every piece of that gun that got
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: wet today, Like you're not. And so it is good
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: to have the corrosion resistance of the seracode on there.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: So the whole action's got tungsten Saraco finish on all metalwork. Right,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: that's the color of it's dull, which in a lot
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: of circles you think, well, doll is not good. But
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Chuck Hawks said that, you know, the high polish what
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: do you call high polish? Blue Steve blue blue barrel.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: He's like, you don't know how many animals lives have
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: been saved by those pretty rifle barrels. Right, so it's
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: nice to have a nice dull Loki. There's no shine
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: gonna be coming off that spiral fluting. What was the
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Chuck Hawks Uh? What was the Chuck Hawks quote We
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: put into one of the and one of the guide books.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: It was about twenty two. No, we had too because
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: he had one quote about his um, his his dislike
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: of gun writers. Oh yeah, you know he is a
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: gun right, yeah, but I think you chose to put
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: in Chuck's Hawks Chuck Hawks quote about gun writers. Yeah,
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: that's in there, but also is twenty two his thing
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: about like how much he likes in there anyhow? Um.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: And then custom pain job on the stock to match
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: that Tungusen serica. We got a really talented paint team
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: and shared in Wyoming, and every stock fampainted. It's got
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: three ways. It's got three way safety explained, like explained
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: you like the three position statemen. Weird. I love it.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: We're hunting Wyoming last year and you remember talking about that.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: I think you like it well. I like it because
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: it allows you to open you know, it allows you
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: to open your bolt without need to put the gun
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: on fire. It seems safe, which for I feel for
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: people who just are getting familiar with firearms, it's a
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: nice feature. Is to piggyback on that. I think it's
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: very nice for the mentor who was next to the
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: person who's getting used to firearms to have that visual
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: you know, it's it's just another thing like when you're
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: next to somebody you're spotting, there's that animal on the
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: hillside first and on whatever. Um, it's a very easy
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: visual check to see exactly what's going on and sometimes
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: what the problem is. Safety still on, he's got to
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: go all the way forward. Yeah, that's that's my thing
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: with it is. I think with with someone who, you know,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: a more experienced shooter, it's never gonna be a bad
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: thing to have it. But a more experienced shooter just
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: like much more aware. You know, you're more aware of
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: muzzle control, right. But when it with people that, um,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: there's no downside to it. But people who don't have
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: that that level familiarity. I think it's just like another thing,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: and it reduces the confusion of when you go to
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: open your bolt and then you confuse like do I
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: put it on fire to open the bolt? Is that right?
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: And you know it just lets you do that. So,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: so our three position safety, all the way back or
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: away from the muzzle is on safe, which you cannot
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: operate the trigger and you cannot lift the bolt. In
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: the middle position, you can open the bolt, but the
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: trigger is defeated. And then a third position or all
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: the way forward towards the muzzle, guns blazing ready to fire. Yeah,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: straight up in the air is the middle I like,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: I think it's good? Is it? What are the cons?
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I don't know other cons. The only potential con is
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: if you're all the way back on safe and you
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: only click forward once trigger doesn't go. But it's also
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: the benefit to the benefit to that is to teach
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: people trigger control, because you see new shooters they'll go
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: from safe to the middle position and then they're getting
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: ready to shoot, they pull it and then they just
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: they wiggle the gun or they jerked so hard and
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: you're like, don't do that. You you would know you
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: wouldn't hit anything with that. So it's a good training
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: tool as well. Yeah, I like it. But I've been
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: talking a lot. I have a ten year old and
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: he likes to know. He's getting real excited about shooting
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: and very infatuated with all kinds of you know, any
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: kind of firearm ballistics conversation. Anyways, he's got a break
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: open four ten is a good training thing and the
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: thing that, like, to Cal's point, but when you look
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: at what you see, I like because I can just
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: look and I know what's going on, right, I know,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: like open that thing up and it just it just
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: takes it takes my stress away. Sure, now that it's
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: a parallel, but I mean, you know, it's just like
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: when you're with people, I think it's it's something to
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: think about and later when they get super familiar and
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: then then uh, it's not as big of an issue.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: But at first it's like there's a little bit of
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: a redundancy and safety features that. Another thing to bring
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: up is the threaded barrel. Oh yeah, another major The
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: way I like to pitch this is we've done a
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: lot of the customization for you. Yeah, like there's very
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: strong uh that very strong things on on this, uh,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: whether be Van Guard, Meata or super addition super that. Uh.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: You know, we've taken the liberty of of making, um,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: what would be customization options for you? Uh? And what
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: is the standard package? But you can further customize because
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: it's got a threaded barrel with a cap on it.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: That's how you'll get it when you buy it. But
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: you can also put a muzzle brake on there if
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: you unthread that cap or uh, if you had it
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: set up, you could put a can on there, a
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: suppressor on there. Um. Yeah, let me tell you what.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: I just had my double deuice two threaded for a suppressor.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Guess what the gunsmith charging me to thread that two
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: for a suppressor? No? Man, it was like I want
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: to say it was three hundred bucks. Yeah, I believe it.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: You're like, that's an entire New twenty two. Well I
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: just said, like, i'd like to have this done. I
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: didn't get into I didn't like ahead of time. Yeah,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: well that's what like. Back to that customization and having
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: that on there, and we got that thread cap that's
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: flushed too, So we tried to do it where you
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: can't hardly see where that line is you know it
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: looks clean and then we're actually getting we actually are
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: making muzzle breaks for the meat Eater, for the weather
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: by Vanguard Mediator Special Editions super rifle. Uh, we are
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: making muscle breaks for it. Will be one for the
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: twenty four in barrels, one for twenty six in the
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: tungsten color, in a little package. They'll be at Sportsman's
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: or or on Weathery dot com so you can get one.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: You can get that. I think what is the retail
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: on that, look sex seventies sixty or seventy bucks for
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: a break. A lot of times you're paying well in
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: access a hundred and tried to keep that down too.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: So if you know we do have it in sick
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: carts or just some of those, you probably won't need
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: a break forward. Some of them you might want one
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: for depending and the threat. That's the thing I don't
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: understanding about the suppressors is um, oh yeah, it's like
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: a universal thread patterns. Yeah, because the one of the
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: ones I have, uh, you gotta get, you gotta get
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: when you buy your suppress you gotta get a reducer. Yeah.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: One of you guys explained it simply. Yeah, this mediator
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: rifle is threaded half twenty eight, which is very common.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: The other common rifle is a five eights twenty four,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: which on the number three contour barrels is more popular.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Larger barrel, it's larger, but if you take a number
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: three all the way down to a half twenty eight,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: you're removing so much barrel it's unnecessary. So that's probably
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: where you had a well, this thing, my my thing,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: My suppressor came with a mountain of reducers, and then
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I was just confused by that whole thing. Yeah. Actually,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: we just recently standardized to a half eight m on
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: this like kind of this is more of a hunting
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: it's a number two contour, so it's it's not a
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: big old barrel because we wanted the way of the
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: rifle to be. You know, you can go down and
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: because cal you were just shooting. You just shut a
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: couple hundred rounds or something, didn't you out of one
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: and competition or something or yeah? Yeah, and yeah, I
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: was gonna say, yeah, you went to a shooting tournament, Yeah,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: the sniper challenge. Nope. Uh. You know, you know, learn
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: a lot when you go out there. The shooting competitions
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: I've done up. Like I'm just trying very consciously keep
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: things in a hunting perspective because that's my goal is
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: is to come away with good practical hunting practice. Um,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: and you know, you're when you're shooting around, uh, these
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: people where this is really some of them it's their
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: job to shoot, and some of them that is that
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: is their sport, is shooting competitions. Um, you're seeing stuff
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: that is not anything that you would see on a
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: mountain anywhere. Yeah. I mean they're twenty pound rifles out
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: there probably. Yeah, I mean there's there's a lot of
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: yeah yeah, Um. And you know, and they're built specifically
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: to shoot targets. It's nice about those things all. Uh,
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: those super heavy rigged up guns. When you touch them off,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: the thing doesn't even move. Yes, And there's like watching
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: like looking through the scope was like watching TV Man,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: but you shoot like nothing happens, just everything just stays
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: like perfectly fine through that scope. One of the guys
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: that we were shooting in a group with, he's like, man,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: you have got to get uh uh uh not a suppressor,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: the other thing muzzle break. And I was like, man,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: it's a six and a half creed more. I don't.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I don't need a muzzle break, he said, Nope, He's like,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: the muzzle brake is so you can stay on target.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: It's a big deal for them and watch your impacts
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: through your scope. Yes, you don't got to shoot at
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: some antelope off the distance, Like did I get it? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: which I was like, okay, yes that makes some sense.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: But um, you know, the whole reason I have never
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: shot with one is because I I don't like dirt
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: and stuff getting in there in the fields and stuff. Uh.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: We've shied away from filming because you can kind of
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: ring the bell of whoever if someone's you know, lying
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: out next to you. And so I've even had guys
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: get um, semi hostile let shooting at the range. People
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: don't want to be next to the guy with the
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: muzzle break. And then I don't know if it's really yeah,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: I guess it's It matters like for for filming where
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: you kind of have people who might be off to
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: your side and stuff. It just seemed like it definitely
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: hurts the person next to you more than what it
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: also does though, is it helps if somebody does have
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: a problem with flinching especially if you have a larger
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: you know, caliber or whatever. By having it, if you're
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: wearing hearing protection it sometimes you can get rid of
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: a flinch more if you I think if you give
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: a little too much requal a larger cartridge to be
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: either a newer shooter or maybe a child or something
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: like that, they can develop a flinch because you're like,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: just suck it up and shoot it, and they can
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: develop some pretty bad flinches. So I think the muzzle
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: breaks sometimes it's helpful to give somebody something that's a
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: little tamer. But the hearing thing is definitely so one
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: thing on the breaking process. So the weather be Van
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Guard Meat Eater super Special edition, um what it was
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: brand new. We went out to start getting prepared for
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: the sniper challenge and Seth, well Seth Seth shot for
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: me so I could go to Mayne and check out
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: that property on Sunday. Yeah. So he actually shot a
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: hundred and some rounds. I shot a hundred and some
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: round at the challenge. I don't know, probably about we
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: were pretty even, um but he I think Seth said
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: he rang a target at eleven. Yeah. But so during
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: the break in process, I actually broke it. In with
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: the trophy copper, federal trophy copper. I was like, oh,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: that's uh, you know, a minute group. I was like,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: that's you know, good group. And then uh proceeded to
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: shoot a bunch of steel and was very impressed. And
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: this was like taking a lot of time to shoot
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: steal um, making sure everything was right. But where were
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: you doing all this out at the you'll see it tomorrow,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: I think, but out at a friend's range that he
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: let us see and their steel everywhere, people going doing
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: stuff that I didn't get invited. Yeah, all the time
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: man people, Oh yeah, we're all drinking, so I know
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't go. But very impressed with the rifle. And
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: then um, you do finally got her target loads so
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: we didn't have to shoot up all the trophy copper. Um.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: I felt like the target loads weren't flying quite as
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: good out of the gun, and I cleaned it in
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: between these so kind of had like an almost a
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: new breaking process with the with the target load. Um.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: And then did you know, shot two hundred plus rounds
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: out of that rifle just at the match. Geez, got
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: it clean the you know, a little due diligence cleaning
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: on it and then shot at today and went back
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: to Trophy Copper. And that three shot group with the
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Trophy Copper was I think a lot of those twenty
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: pound rifles out of that match you'd be very pleased with. Yeah,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: it was tight. Yeah, it was about a half inch
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: a little over his group. And the funny thing was
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: though the first one he it'll turn it on top
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: and kind of forgot he'd been shooting. So he goes
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: down to the target today at a hundred yard to
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: them all, dude, you hit dirt like feet above that target.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: I've been the spotting scope and he just goes through
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: and he's just spinning that turret like a top and
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: then it's sure enough, just drills the balls. Yeah, No,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: it's a good it's a great rifle. Me. How much
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: they weigh like short action short action six point three eight? Oh,
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: just make that up right now, not super light, not
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: super heavy. Great and the magnum, the magnum will be
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: seven point three eight. What are the there's six cartridges
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: six five creed More six hundred, Weatherby three, Weatherby seven,
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: weather B and seven and a seven milli seven. Yeah,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: and this something we worked. Yeah, the old thirty old
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: six that make the cut. No, no, no, but we
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: we did talk to you guys. You know, I know
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: that you know, you guys are a big part of that.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I just wanted to rub it in and its Sportsman's
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: warehouse a little bit. You know, is because you know
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: they have you know, hundred five stores and know their
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: customers and in their areas and you know know what
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: they like too. So I think between the three, you know,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: we were able to pick up on those six cartridges.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: So it gives you a variety stuff short action long.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: The real quick back to the break is there like
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: an average percentage of reduced recoil and you throw it
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: when you put a brake on. It's no way, it's
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: it's very difficult to measure because it's it's a perception
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: and it's also count related. Wouldn't be that you put
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: it against something that measures force and just do it
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: or not? Let us talk to your engineerings get some pillars.
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: People do, but there's variations on how people you know,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: even measure that. So well, I know that there's like
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: a significant I mean there's a significant recoil redaction with those. Yeah,
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: I know that different things recoil different way is for sure,
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: like I had a um, what's the queens of the
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: planes rifles? Yet that recoil is tremendous, but spread out
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: over such a long period of time. It's kind of
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: like it's like a five minute long like then a
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: seven millimeter around mags like smack, And it's like the
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: fastest to the jaw man bullet, wait to seventy five
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: shooting a heavier bullet, so it's more of a push
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: against your shoulder. Yeah, it's under the giant like giving
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: you a slow punch. It's very similar to three or weather.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Be truthfully, three or weather people think, oh god, it's
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: gonna be horrible. It's it's It doesn't really bother me.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: I don't like the real poppy jaw busting ones that
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: give you a headache. Yes, and those will more than
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: likely be lighter grain bullets shooting fast because they're snappy,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: Like what's what's in your opinion, what's the what's the
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: worst free willing around? Oh no, actually and a small
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: gun in a lightweight gun jumped out of your hands
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: and do flips right gun. But I've also there's the
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: three seventy eight weather be mag like our big old
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: cartrires like African safari stuff, and that's the smack and
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: the wallup and Andre the giant like all mixed into.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: I mean, I've shot I've shot a four sixty weather
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: be mag with the five green bullet without a break
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: once and it gives you just gotta do it. Actually,
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: you guys should just you guys should just do it.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: You just it's fun. Next time you guys are down, Definitely,
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: you gotta shoot it once. Just it is so much force.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: You know what I shot one time, I can't remember.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: It was one of those those like it was like sharps,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: like a replix sharps, so like they're not seventies when
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: are they like a four sixteen Rigby or either way.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: I was in California. We're shooting this thing, okay, and
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: it had one of the all those quickly down under
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: sits should have been I'm not kidding. Yeah, he said that.
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: He was like, oh, yeah, you can see the bullet.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I'm like, you can't see the bullet. You can see
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: the bullet definitely if you're shooting out. He had a
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: target like a couple hundred yards out and it's like
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: there's no way. We were talking about you look like
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: you catch a glimpse. It seemed like it was like
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: halfway there and you catch a glimpse of the slug
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: going through the air. Trying to pride ourselves. You can't
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: see our bullets, definitely can your billboard out there and
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: shared and you can't see our bullets. Rio, Seve can't see.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: We're excited about the project though. With you guys, it's
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: been it's been a fun collaboration. And I hope you
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: know you're listeners watch or whatever you call the people
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: that are out there and the meat eater world is
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: nad Yeah, all the knuckleheads listening. I think it's uh.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I think, to be honest, I think it's there's gonna
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: be some experience shooters nunners. They're like, Wow, this is
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: a rifle that I really want to own. But I
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: think it's also so then you could step into as
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: more of a new or novice hunter into So I
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: think it really I don't know. I think hopefully, you know,
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: kind of captures the vast part of the audience in
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: that sense. Oh yeah, we get so many emails, people
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: like lots of emails, and it's like a daily thing.
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: Is people kind of trying to dig through the all
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: the rigmarole in language right there, like I want to
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: get right ball away shot, hand me downs, go by,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: what should I get? Blah blah blah. It doesn't make sense.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: I get overwhelmed. And now I'd be like that, yeah, yeah,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: all ready for you. Yeah. And like Adam said, sports
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: is Warehouse has it, but also weather we dot com.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: And just to review that process real quick, is that
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: if you were to go to weather be dot com
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: and select a rifle in the cartridge that you want,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: you would then select an FFL that we would ship
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: that rifle to. A lot of people don't realize we
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: don't ship a rifle directly to your door. Can We
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: cannot do that, So you have to select an FFL
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: in your I don't actually care where it is, but
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: p prefarably in your city. You would select that off
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: of our website. We would then ship that rifle to
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: that FFL, in which then you would go in and
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: complete the appropriate checks like thirty bucks right to do it, California,
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: and the sportsman is gonna be stocking them heavy, So
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: it's a great opportunity to get in there, you know.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: Shoulder and asked the guys behind the counter. We're gonna
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: be working on training with them, and so I think
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: you know, they're gonna have some associates. They're gonna be
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: excited about that. Again. I think it's gonna, you know,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: pop off that shelf. You know too. Hit a point
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: that Kevin was making just so people understand, because I
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: don't like the lingo of the FFL. So it's like federal, No,
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: you don't need a great job. I feel like some
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: people don't know where Tom Abo does you think all
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: the federal firearm licensee. So what happens is, um, there's
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: there's a questionnaire and when you go to a firearm transfer,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: you go down and fill out a very simple questionnaire
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: and it covers like, um, if you have felony, felony
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: like any kind of restraining orders, dishonorable discharge, are you
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: there's some recreational drugs, there's some kind of there's some
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: kind of question around I don't know how it's phrase,
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: but something citizenship. Have you ever renounced your US citizenship
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: or something like that. And you can't just go down
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: the whole thing, go no no, no, no, no, no no,
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: because they'll get you in the end. Yeah, the last
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: question is different. Remember no, no, no, no, no, of
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: course not and the and then that's all. That's what
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: it asked. Like when people say, like going to my
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: FFL or doing to the FFL, that's what it is.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: You go down and give me driver's license, You fill
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: out this thing, they check, make sure you're cool, and
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: in most cases most places, you you walk out. Most
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: places some some states do have a weight period, but
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: most do not. So we'll take a little bit of
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: time for them to run the check. So sometimes it
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: will take a couple of minutes, I'll say, walk around
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: the store, and but like literally a couple of minutes. Yeah,
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: it's a the old phone end days are long gone,
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: and said Nick's National Instant Criminal Check System something like that.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: And it's pretty fast. If you've got a real generic
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: last named Smith or Jones, it could take longer, but
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: for most people's But I did hear during the height
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: of the COVID buying that they were a couple of hours.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: They happen, especially the store is really busy and you've
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: got a bunch of people with the gun counter, it
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: might it might take some time. But while you're down
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: there too at the store, I mean, usually you need accessories,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: whether that Biammo scopes, mounts, all that kind of stuff too.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: So it gets you, you know, get you in there
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: to see what else you're gonna need to go along
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: with it. So there's one thing I want to comment
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: on the rifle. If I can't, and then well, I
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: think and and it depends on you know, listeners where
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: they're at, and they're kind of technical knowledge of firems
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: and things. But like I said earlier, probably accuracy is
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: depending upon a number of different things, and the barrel
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: I believe being key to that. And one of the
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: things that Vanguard has and I think for that value
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: is it's there you hear different ways of barrels are made,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: and that's probably other things thrown out and then everybody's like,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: what's all. I mean button rifle and the cut barrel
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: and the Vanguard rifles are hammered forged, and really what
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: it is. It's talking about how the rifle ing is
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: put in the barrel, because the first you just drill
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: a hole, right, but you've got to actually get that
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: rate of twist that's in there. The actual rifling and
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: hammer forging and barrels has has been kind of for
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: a long time known as one of the one of
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: the premier ways to actually do a barrel. Uh, and
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: that it's it's actually you know, literally pressed that it's
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: it's you know, there's a huge trying to put it in.
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: Uh it is and it just goes E is doing
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: this and it's actually then taking and putting the rifling
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: in there and doing so in a way that minimizes
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: the stress to the barrel. Uh, so that it can
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: maintain its concentricity said a word, Uh, you know, being
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: concentric and all those things. So anyways, just the way
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: that the barrel has done Sammer forged. There's different ways
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: to do barrels, but we found that the Vanguard barrels
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: um are an excellent barrel, lasts a long time, but
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: is very very concentric um as well, and that's one
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: of the things that provides that accuracy. So you know,
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: you look more, you get into certain things, you find
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: something out. And one of the things that Van Guard
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: barrel has been known for for decades is that they
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: have really good hammerforge barrels. So something else to kind
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: of throw in there if anybody geeks out on that stuff,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: if I like it, well, yeah, y'all. He likes that
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: kind of stuff. Yeah, well knows wall someday I want
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: to add up all Yanni's nicknames. Man, do you have
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: a little inside joke, it's like the nickname. Yeah, he's
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: got a lot of Well because Queen Man's was a
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: good friend of mine. That's why I think is cool.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: We started with bird list for our yard. Um, we're
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: at six. Not bad, nice, it's great. I feel you're
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: you guys, your family blow my family away. Yeah, we've
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: started one too, but we've fallen off, so I don't
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: think we've made it past. I feel like you'll you'll
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: blow past me very quickly. I haven't seen any humming
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: berris yet. Them we got one, I can't. I think
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: I can't tell if it's broad tailed or Calliope, though
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: it's a little problem. ICES call them all hummingbirds. Then
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: I found out that that doesn't work. No lots kind
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: of hunting hummingbirds running around. Uh, Phil lassing, Um, you're
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: you're you're gonna close with So we got the song
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: about Yanni already played. I was disappointed here there's no accompaniment?
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: Can I in first? Oh? Yeah, of course, you know
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: it's about your bigger bank. You need one more thing
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: because after you get your super badass, whether it be
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: meatia rifle, you're gonna need something to cut up the
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: meat with your get again, to get the meat craft knife,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: to cover your new stuff. Will your barrel down that
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: level of steel? Don't do that, don't take you. Don't
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: touch your knife to your barrel. Yeah. No, we've been
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: doing something. We've been doing some fun stuff. Man, that's
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: little stuff we haven't done. We've never really engaged in it.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: I always always curious about just kind of like waiting
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: for the right, you know, the right sort of Well,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: you're passionate about quality products. I mean, that's what like
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: you even when we go around hunting, you're like, you
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: know what you guys should make and like that's impossible
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: but half a brain. Yeah, no kidding, Yeah, and if
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: you know how to make stuff, Steve, but you know,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: but it's cool because you guys are passionate about stuff.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: I think it just came out in this new knife.
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: You guys did a bench made and I hope that
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: you know, people feel came out in the rifle too,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: that that you guys, Um, Yeah, I think your creativity
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: and really kind of knowing you just do a lot
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: of hunting from lots of folks. It's been fun to
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: get involved in it. Uh. Then we all, you know,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: feel free and Bill's got a hot hot concluder. I'll
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: just stay with the rifle one more time. I think
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: it's we are we all here in this room put
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: together a very quality product. UM. As far as what
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: is out there on the market, there's a lot of
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: kind of upgrades, like if you if you went to
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: a lower price point rifle, a cheaper rifle, if you will. UM.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: There's a lot of things that we feel eventually enough
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: time on the ground, you'd be like, oh, you know
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: what would be nice is this? Or you know, boy,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I kind of like that on that And that's what
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: kind of gets you working up a little bit into
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: some different kind of quote custom things. And that's kind
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: of what this package is UM. And you know, it's
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: still it's under a thousand bucks um weatherby dot Com UM,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: which is still a chunk of change. But the good
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: thing is is you're not going to have that feeling
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: of like, oh man, I wish this one had this
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: or this one that had this. Uh, And it's something
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: that just never goes away like you are eventually gonna
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: be like, ah, I've had such a long life and
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: hunted so long and I need to give this thing away. Uh,
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: and you'll you'll be able to then hand down a
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: very high quality shooting iron. Yeah. It's like you know,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: you can go when you touch it and worked the
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: work the action on it, like work the bolt down stuff.
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: It's like it's like a you know, it's a quality gun.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: It's a quality gun. You're like that, She's about the
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: good one. I think what's hard in audio podcast is
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: we've tried to describe, like the fluted barrel, it looks
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: really good. We really didn't touch on how good the
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: stock looks. The stock itself hand painted. It's a black
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: base with kind of like a gray and a tan.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: It looks incredible. So you gotta go check it out,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: whether it be or Sports and Sports dot Com. Um
