- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one Piece episodes six seventy through six seventy two,
- 0:16Speaker 1: Dragon Claw Strikes, Lucy's intimidating attack, Defeat Sugar, the Army
- 0:22Speaker 1: of the Little People charges, and the Last Light of Hope,
- 0:27Speaker 1: The Secret of our Commander. In these episodes, a lot
- 0:32Speaker 1: of things happen, but for me and I think you
- 0:35Speaker 1: will mostly agree, the most important thing is finding out
- 0:40Speaker 1: who Rebecca's father really was. And I should have connected
- 0:47Speaker 1: these dots, but I did not. Welcome to spoil Me.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:14Speaker 1: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. Yeah, so friends,
- 1:21Speaker 1: you know, I feel like, okay, so full disclosure. Let
- 1:26Speaker 1: me explain to you the headspace that I have been
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the past like few weeks of just like constant distraction.
- 1:36Speaker 1: There's a lot of like personal stuff going on, and
- 1:40Speaker 1: it's not all bad, but it is just the kind
- 1:42Speaker 1: of thing that takes up a lot of headspace. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: I have really noticed not just with this show, but
- 1:47Speaker 1: with a couple other things that I'm covering, and also
- 1:51Speaker 1: even something that I am reading on my own time
- 1:54Speaker 1: for fun, which I rarely do, but I am doing
- 1:58Speaker 1: now because that's how good this book was. In just
- 2:01Speaker 1: a sample. I have been utterly failing to put two
- 2:07Speaker 1: and two together on so many things that I really
- 2:10Speaker 1: would have expected better of myself. I really would. It's
- 2:15Speaker 1: the sort of thing where I was just like here today,
- 2:19Speaker 1: it just felt like yet another moment of.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I should have I should have seen that,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and kind of looking back, and I tell myself all
- 2:30Speaker 2: these stories about why it's perfectly reasonable that I didn't
- 2:34Speaker 2: catch that, and like it is, really it is perfectly reasonable,
- 2:39Speaker 2: but I can't help but judge myself.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And I don't know how many of you, like you know,
- 2:47Speaker 1: clocked what was probably going on here with her father.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I will say that, you know, there have been times
- 2:57Speaker 1: where I have seen what's coming with this show before,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but I feel like if I didn't, then this is
- 3:04Speaker 1: a much better laid groundwork than we have usually gotten.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to say that like as a
- 3:12Speaker 1: way of insulting the show. It's just it's a long
- 3:17Speaker 1: running show with a lot of plot lines, and you're
- 3:20Speaker 1: not always going to be able to pull things off
- 3:24Speaker 1: at one hundred percent. So I really, you know, a
- 3:29Speaker 1: varying degree of success in this sort of narrative trickery
- 3:34Speaker 1: is expected. It's just how it's going to be. And
- 3:37Speaker 1: I just think this one either is set up way
- 3:41Speaker 1: better than they had been, or I am just so
- 3:47Speaker 1: excessively distracted that it really wasn't set up that much better.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And I am just that much of a sitting duck
- 3:54Speaker 1: right now with my brain pulled in many, many different directions.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So yeah, I just I it's actually like, I'll be honest.
- 4:06Speaker 1: As much as I feel chagrined at not having caught
- 4:10Speaker 1: the thing, I can't help but enjoy being surprised by
- 4:16Speaker 1: a twist in the show because there have been so
- 4:19Speaker 1: many times where I figured it out. It's really nice
- 4:21Speaker 1: to not have done that and feel myself go oh
- 4:26Speaker 1: and be genuinely surprised. And it's something that I struggle
- 4:30Speaker 1: with when I do what I do, because, especially for
- 4:34Speaker 1: something like spoil Me, where people are commissioning me to
- 4:38Speaker 1: read things, I know that a great deal of what
- 4:43Speaker 1: the appeal is on this show is the fact that
- 4:48Speaker 1: people want to see me be shocked, want to see
- 4:51Speaker 1: my reaction to a big twist, and I want to
- 4:58Speaker 1: give that to them because they're paying for me to
- 5:01Speaker 1: cover it, and I would like for them to really
- 5:03Speaker 1: enjoy themselves as much as they can. But I also
- 5:06Speaker 1: have been doing this a long time, and so I
- 5:10Speaker 1: struggle with whether to try and make myself not think
- 5:13Speaker 1: of things, to let stuff surprise me more, or whether
- 5:17Speaker 1: I should parse it out and try and like crack
- 5:20Speaker 1: the case beforehand, and whether that ruins it or is
- 5:24Speaker 1: that just part of it. You know, it's a really
- 5:27Speaker 1: difficult balance to hit sometimes. Oh I'm sorry. Saraphim is
- 5:34Speaker 1: in the chat saying one thing to clarify from last episode.
- 5:37Speaker 1: The grape they are trying to use on sugar isn't
- 5:39Speaker 1: a grape with some super Tabasco on it. It's essentially
- 5:42Speaker 1: a paintball filled with the super Tabasco sauce made up
- 5:46Speaker 1: to look like a grape. Oh okay, gotcha. Well she
- 5:51Speaker 1: doesn't fall for it, does she. I'll tell you what
- 5:55Speaker 1: set aside? Oh my god, Florian says, I just mostly
- 5:59Speaker 1: want you to have a good till or join our
- 6:01Speaker 1: misery when something is bad. I think that does seem
- 6:05Speaker 1: to be like one of the prevailing reactions of a
- 6:08Speaker 1: lot of people is just if it's also not just
- 6:15Speaker 1: for the good stuff that I'm here. It can also
- 6:17Speaker 1: be for the bad stuff sometimes. I have never had
- 6:23Speaker 1: anybody commission something specifically because they thought I would hate
- 6:27Speaker 1: it and they wanted to see my reaction like once
- 6:31Speaker 1: I hated it. So that's that hasn't really been something
- 6:35Speaker 1: that I have experienced. I have definitely had people looking
- 6:39Speaker 1: forward to something that they know I will hate that
- 6:41Speaker 1: I'm just going to be getting to, but it's more
- 6:45Speaker 1: usually a hate like You're gonna be so upset when
- 6:49Speaker 1: this thing happens because you've grown to care about the characters.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And again, it's a really different thing. One piece is
- 6:56Speaker 1: just so outside of the norm of the structure of
- 7:02Speaker 1: what I usually cover because it is such a long
- 7:08Speaker 1: running series, because you do have characters that like go
- 7:12Speaker 1: in and out so much it and you have these
- 7:17Speaker 1: like ebbs and flows of quality of plot, and when
- 7:23Speaker 1: we're going to be clearly focusing a lot more on
- 7:25Speaker 1: our characters versus the plot or vice versa, I it
- 7:32Speaker 1: feels like I'm covering like six different properties sometimes. So
- 7:39Speaker 1: it's the sort of thing where you guys can have
- 7:43Speaker 1: the experience of both commissioning me as a hate watch
- 7:48Speaker 1: a little bit and commissioning me for something that you
- 7:51Speaker 1: love because I am going to be hitting a particular
- 7:55Speaker 1: arc that you fucking despise, or meeting a character that
- 8:00Speaker 1: you know, like Rebecca, that I am not really gonna
- 8:05Speaker 1: be feeling. So I really think that's part of what
- 8:12Speaker 1: I enjoy about the show is because it has so
- 8:16Speaker 1: much I mean, I'm only like halfway through what's out
- 8:20Speaker 1: so far of the series, and I've been covering it
- 8:23Speaker 1: for like four years. It's very fun for me as
- 8:28Speaker 1: well in a way because I am able to just
- 8:32Speaker 1: let things wash over me and take them as they come.
- 8:36Speaker 1: And every time I start a new arc, I genuinely
- 8:40Speaker 1: do not know what I'm gonna get, and that is
- 8:43Speaker 1: sort of fun, you know, It's part of it. So
- 8:48Speaker 1: I when I was starting to say too was like
- 8:52Speaker 1: setting aside the reality of who Rebecca's father is. The
- 8:59Speaker 1: other thing that caught me off guard in these episodes
- 9:02Speaker 1: is the fact that our plans go so badly awry.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And I know that I have talked about this in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the past, but I feel like this particular trio of
- 9:16Speaker 1: episodes is a really really good example of what I'm
- 9:20Speaker 1: talking about. So I'm going to kind of lean into
- 9:23Speaker 1: this a little bit this episode, But you guys know
- 9:26Speaker 1: that I am trying to write a murder mystery and
- 9:30Speaker 1: it is, you know, the first thing of its kind
- 9:32Speaker 1: that I have written. I've written novels before. They were
- 9:35Speaker 1: not good. I removed them from Amazon. I have no
- 9:38Speaker 1: interest in anybody reading those. They were very much like
- 9:43Speaker 1: It was a fun attempt and I had a good time,
- 9:46Speaker 1: but I don't feel like they are representative of anything
- 9:49Speaker 1: that I would want to write now but a murder
- 9:54Speaker 1: mystery and trying to really like live up to the
- 9:57Speaker 1: quality of plot of some of the things that I
- 10:00Speaker 1: have read since. Not saying that I'm going to fall
- 10:04Speaker 1: into the same level of ability, but I have raised
- 10:08Speaker 1: my standards for myself based on a lot of the
- 10:10Speaker 1: things that I have covered. I know that the best
- 10:16Speaker 1: stories come from when things don't go to plan. It's
- 10:21Speaker 1: just a fact. You have to keep your audience on
- 10:25Speaker 1: their toes a little bit, and if everything happens exactly
- 10:30Speaker 1: the way your characters plan for them to happen, I'm
- 10:35Speaker 1: sure that there might be times where that's deeply satisfying,
- 10:39Speaker 1: but really the only times that that ever happens are,
- 10:44Speaker 1: for example, in something like uh Oceans eleven, Oceans eleven,
- 10:51Speaker 1: everything goes to plan for them, But the difference is
- 10:54Speaker 1: the audience doesn't know the plan ahead of time. So
- 10:58Speaker 1: it's a really different sort of energy because you are
- 11:03Speaker 1: aware that they have a plan, but usually it's played
- 11:08Speaker 1: so that as we watch we think it's going wrong.
- 11:11Speaker 1: We think whatever is going like them being noticed by
- 11:15Speaker 1: the cops or security or whatever. We think that this
- 11:18Speaker 1: is their plan going awry. And then of course in
- 11:20Speaker 1: the end you find out they plan this all along,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and so you still have that sense of stress when
- 11:26Speaker 1: you're watching it, that like, oh, no, things are going wrong,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and once you discover it was all part of the
- 11:33Speaker 1: plot to begin with, that is the very satisfying and
- 11:37Speaker 1: like the oh, that's why these people are a great team,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you know. But a lot of times in adventure stories
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's something more like this, where everybody is doing their
- 11:50Speaker 1: best and shit gooes really really left anyway, and we're
- 11:56Speaker 1: all trying to work within the skill sets that we
- 12:00Speaker 1: excel in, and yet every attempt to save the plan
- 12:10Speaker 1: or redirect it and sort of keep it on track,
- 12:14Speaker 1: but you know, like we're going to try and what's
- 12:18Speaker 1: the word I want here? Like save as much of
- 12:22Speaker 1: it as we can and adapt, but also we're still
- 12:26Speaker 1: going to keep going with the plan. It's the sort
- 12:29Speaker 1: of thing that I feel so so anxious about when
- 12:36Speaker 1: I'm reading it that sometimes I find it genuinely difficult
- 12:42Speaker 1: to enjoy the experience, because it's just something that links
- 12:46Speaker 1: up with a particular like a sense for me of
- 12:55Speaker 1: my desire for things to be planned out and for
- 12:59Speaker 1: me to have time to like come up with some
- 13:03Speaker 1: backup plans just in case and get all of the
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know, equipment or materials together that I might need,
- 13:10Speaker 1: YadA YadA. All of that gives me this like really
- 13:13Speaker 1: deep sense of security. And it's taken me a long
- 13:16Speaker 1: time to realize how much I seize up when plans
- 13:20Speaker 1: suddenly change. And it used to be that I thought
- 13:23Speaker 1: I was just really uptight somehow, and it's taken time
- 13:27Speaker 1: for me to understand how much that's just a product
- 13:30Speaker 1: of anxiety. And so these all three of these of
- 13:36Speaker 1: these episodes, everything is going so so so wrong, so
- 13:43Speaker 1: very wrong. Kids. It was agony, and I was trying
- 13:48Speaker 1: so hard to just be like it's okay, it's okay,
- 13:51Speaker 1: it's okay. That's how stories are. They have to do
- 13:53Speaker 1: the Natasha stories have gotta go wrong. But I can't
- 13:56Speaker 1: tell you all how hard it was for me to
- 13:59Speaker 1: like keep that in mind and not just sort of
- 14:02Speaker 1: lose it a little bit, because there are just enough
- 14:07Speaker 1: things like there are there are so many different irons
- 14:11Speaker 1: in the fire, so to speak, that I kept expecting, Okay, well,
- 14:16Speaker 1: this other thing that they're doing to fix it, that'll
- 14:20Speaker 1: do it, and we'll at least get this piece back
- 14:24Speaker 1: on track. And right now it's like nothing is on track.
- 14:29Speaker 1: We are having to completely rethink the whole plan from
- 14:33Speaker 1: the ground up, it seems like, but without the benefit
- 14:37Speaker 1: of like communication between everyone. And it's just it's difficult
- 14:46Speaker 1: to like enjoy it in a real sense because the
- 14:51Speaker 1: whole time I'm just like, oh no, but if this
- 14:53Speaker 1: and that had gone differently, you know. So anyway, I'm
- 14:59Speaker 1: gonna talk about the arena fight first, because as usual,
- 15:04Speaker 1: the tournament's sort of the least interesting thing. We've got
- 15:07Speaker 1: the fighting fish that are attacking our guys, and I
- 15:14Speaker 1: really thought that it was going to be I thought
- 15:17Speaker 1: that the setup was going to be pretty different with
- 15:19Speaker 1: how this went, what I think I was expecting. When
- 15:22Speaker 1: I step back and like try and remember I believe
- 15:25Speaker 1: that I was expecting for our like, for the fish
- 15:32Speaker 1: to stay in the water, and for our friends to
- 15:35Speaker 1: have to find a way to get down into the
- 15:37Speaker 1: water and fight against the fish to take away what's
- 15:42Speaker 1: strapped to their back, but in a way that's like
- 15:47Speaker 1: not on their own turf, that they are very much
- 15:51Speaker 1: submerged and in the territory of the fish. And we
- 15:54Speaker 1: have seen the fighting fish attack before, so I don't
- 15:59Speaker 1: know why I thought that I have seen good and
- 16:02Speaker 1: goddamn well that they come flying up out of the
- 16:06Speaker 1: water and fight on land with people, and your girls
- 16:12Speaker 1: still didn't really like consider so I was taken quite aback.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I'll just say that at the fact that the fish
- 16:23Speaker 1: are just coming at our people in the arena like
- 16:27Speaker 1: on cue in a way that does sort of defy belief,
- 16:31Speaker 1: but it doesn't matter, and we get to see the
- 16:35Speaker 1: way each of them deals with it. Can you guess
- 16:39Speaker 1: how I felt about it? Do you guess that I
- 16:43Speaker 1: was just woefully disappointed at how incredibly ineffective Rebecca is.
- 16:50Speaker 1: It's embarrassing at this point, guys, like it's embarrassing on
- 16:55Speaker 1: her behalf, but it's also embarrassing for me because I
- 16:59Speaker 1: can keep sort of like talking myself down from being
- 17:05Speaker 1: as angry about her character as I am, and sort
- 17:09Speaker 1: of going, you're not giving it a chance, Tosh, Like
- 17:12Speaker 1: give it a bit, you know, and maybe she'll come
- 17:16Speaker 1: out with something, and it'll it'll be unexpected power or
- 17:22Speaker 1: like instinct, even maybe not a power, but like just
- 17:25Speaker 1: something particular that she is so good at that she'll
- 17:29Speaker 1: be able to pull out and utilize unexpectedly. Now that
- 17:34Speaker 1: the like water thing isn't part of the equation, and
- 17:41Speaker 1: I have to assume when I was saying in the
- 17:44Speaker 1: last episode that like, if we're fighting the fighting fish,
- 17:48Speaker 1: then the water isn't going to be part of it,
- 17:51Speaker 1: Like what good does that do her? I was still
- 17:55Speaker 1: thinking when I said that about everybody having to get
- 17:58Speaker 1: into the water with the fish. After watching this episode,
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'm realizing, like, oh, it's really possible actually that she's
- 18:06Speaker 1: still going to have like going to be able to
- 18:08Speaker 1: knock people into the water and that will still disqualify them,
- 18:11Speaker 1: Like that's very likely a remaining option. And I just
- 18:18Speaker 1: sort of misinterpreted it as not being a means of
- 18:23Speaker 1: judging anymore, because if we're going to involve the fish,
- 18:25Speaker 1: then of course the water has to be like on
- 18:28Speaker 1: the table as a place where our people can go.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But now that I'm seeing how we're actually doing this,
- 18:35Speaker 1: I'm realizing, like, oh, okay, so that is still something
- 18:40Speaker 1: that she can do to deal with her opponents. But
- 18:46Speaker 1: the problem is that in these episodes, she isn't fighting
- 18:50Speaker 1: her opponents, She's fighting the fish, and it is like
- 18:57Speaker 1: she just doesn't have it. She can't do it. And
- 19:03Speaker 1: it's really like I almost feel like the degree to
- 19:11Speaker 1: which she is outclassed is like comical, you know. It
- 19:22Speaker 1: feels almost like okay, ouch, that's a lot, you know,
- 19:26Speaker 1: because it's literally like the fish coming toward her and
- 19:30Speaker 1: her like saying, I at least have to cut the chain.
- 19:35Speaker 1: The fish seems to barely touch her. And granted I
- 19:39Speaker 1: know that the fish is giant in all of this,
- 19:41Speaker 1: it's not so much about the fact that it's in
- 19:47Speaker 1: comparison to the way everybody else is animated and voiced
- 19:52Speaker 1: as they are dealing with these things that she seems
- 19:55Speaker 1: particularly inept. So when she cries and dodges to the
- 20:01Speaker 1: side when it hits her and she cries out with
- 20:06Speaker 1: this very like you know, it it's just oh, it's
- 20:13Speaker 1: just really really deeply embarrassing because everybody else has been
- 20:17Speaker 1: such a badass and I hate it, I really really do.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I I just can't emphasize enough how much of a
- 20:27Speaker 1: continuing disappointment she has turned out to be, and how
- 20:31Speaker 1: much every episode after I like unload about how annoyed
- 20:35Speaker 1: I am with this. I try to take a deep
- 20:38Speaker 1: breath as I go into watching the next episodes and
- 20:41Speaker 1: really keep an open mind. And then it gets worse
- 20:44Speaker 1: and I just don't know how they keep making it worse.
- 20:47Speaker 1: It's like, I don't know, man, it feels like I'm
- 20:51Speaker 1: being like forced to watch the worst of kind of thing,
- 20:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean, where it's like you you're
- 21:01Speaker 1: watching an example of what not to do with a
- 21:04Speaker 1: female character from like a filmmaking perspective in like a class,
- 21:10Speaker 1: and they're just, yeah, we're gonna watch this because it's
- 21:13Speaker 1: gonna infuriate you and you really need to see how
- 21:15Speaker 1: bad it can get. It feels so so over the
- 21:21Speaker 1: top in terms of how misjudged it all is that
- 21:24Speaker 1: I'm like, is this on purpose or are you fucking
- 21:28Speaker 1: with me? Like you know, I just anyway, so that
- 21:34Speaker 1: whole thing we get to see the moment when a
- 21:37Speaker 1: lot of people start to notice that Lucy I'm about
- 21:40Speaker 1: to say loofy, but you know, Lucy is fighting in
- 21:45Speaker 1: an extremely different way than he used to, and there's
- 21:49Speaker 1: a bunch of like, oh, his fighting style has changed,
- 21:54Speaker 1: and I wonder if somebody else took his place. I
- 21:57Speaker 1: really did kind of like the fact, and also was
- 22:00Speaker 1: startled by the fact that I think it's Diamante who's
- 22:04Speaker 1: the one who says it out loud. But like, I
- 22:06Speaker 1: didn't expect anybody to immediately get what was going on
- 22:10Speaker 1: and that he had been replaced. I thought people would
- 22:13Speaker 1: be mystified for a little bit longer and then you
- 22:15Speaker 1: would have somebody like throwing out a wild theory, you know.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But instead it's Deamonte like just saying precisely what's happening
- 22:26Speaker 1: in words, And I was like, oh, no, I feel
- 22:30Speaker 1: like that's a bad thing, right, It's got to be
- 22:33Speaker 1: that they've already like put put two and two together.
- 22:38Speaker 1: So and you see Rebecca too, like start sweating off
- 22:41Speaker 1: to the side because she also knows the truth, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: she is like, uh no, what. I kind of like
- 22:49Speaker 1: did feel for her in that respect, because she really
- 22:52Speaker 1: shouldn't be in it honestly, like this, this whole thing
- 22:55Speaker 1: really shouldn't be any of her business. But yeah, this
- 23:00Speaker 1: so that is, you know, remains unresolved. But we see
- 23:03Speaker 1: him go up against a few people and Sabo has hockey,
- 23:11Speaker 1: so he is using that, Like I can't remember what
- 23:14Speaker 1: it's called, guys, I keep wanting to say enforcement Is
- 23:17Speaker 1: it armament? Hockey?
- 23:21Speaker 2: So the.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You know, I was asking like, how is he going
- 23:27Speaker 1: to be able to keep up in a previous episode,
- 23:31Speaker 1: and I think now we're seeing how and it's kind
- 23:34Speaker 1: of dope. I am hopeful that as we spend more
- 23:41Speaker 1: time with him, we get a little bit more. I want,
- 23:50Speaker 1: look what it comes down to, if I'm being honest,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I want the tournament to be more interesting. And as
- 23:59Speaker 1: much as I love watching Loufy fight, I have seen
- 24:05Speaker 1: a lot of his tricks. Maybe there's some stuff yet
- 24:09Speaker 1: to come that is up his sleeve, but as of
- 24:12Speaker 1: right now, it sort of seems like I kind of
- 24:14Speaker 1: know what he's working with at this point in the story,
- 24:18Speaker 1: and watching him fight, it's not even really watching him fight,
- 24:21Speaker 1: because the way that the story goes, we spend a
- 24:26Speaker 1: lot of time on other characters that we don't know
- 24:28Speaker 1: that well, so Lufy's in and out of the fight
- 24:32Speaker 1: scenes a lot. It's very much like sort of ten
- 24:38Speaker 1: percent him ninety percent meeting other new people. And I
- 24:43Speaker 1: am really hoping that adding Sabo to the mix, with
- 24:47Speaker 1: my interest in him because of who he meant to
- 24:50Speaker 1: Lufy or what he meant to Lufy and who he
- 24:52Speaker 1: is and his relationship to everything, I am really really
- 24:56Speaker 1: hoping that throwing him in here and finding out what
- 25:01Speaker 1: he's capable of is going to get like revitalize this
- 25:06Speaker 1: story a little bit more, and getting to see that
- 25:09Speaker 1: he has armament. Hockey went some ways toward doing that,
- 25:12Speaker 1: because you know, I really believed that he was going
- 25:17Speaker 1: to be able to handle himself, but I didn't know how.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I didn't know what it was that he had going on,
- 25:23Speaker 1: and my assumption, and I could be wrong about this,
- 25:27Speaker 1: but my assumption has been since like finding out that
- 25:31Speaker 1: he is alive and here, that he is going to
- 25:34Speaker 1: get the flame flame fruit and eat it and take
- 25:37Speaker 1: on Ace's power, which frankly, I would be one hundred
- 25:43Speaker 1: percent okay with as long as he sticks around with
- 25:49Speaker 1: us folks here at the uh the straw Hat Crew.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I really don't want him to, like take this and
- 25:57Speaker 1: eat it and then go on his way, and I
- 26:00Speaker 1: think that's more likely. I don't really see us adding
- 26:03Speaker 1: another crew member with a devil fruit power like this,
- 26:07Speaker 1: And again I may be very wrong about that. There's
- 26:10Speaker 1: been plenty of times where I didn't really like think
- 26:12Speaker 1: we were adding a new person, and here we are.
- 26:15Speaker 1: But it just seems like he kind of has come
- 26:20Speaker 1: into the story with his own thing already going on.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And I wouldn't be too surprised if it turned out
- 26:28Speaker 1: that he has his own mission that he is working
- 26:33Speaker 1: toward and goes off and does that, and then we
- 26:35Speaker 1: just sort of periodically run into him in the course
- 26:39Speaker 1: of whatever it is that he is fighting for, or
- 26:43Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So what I'm saying is
- 26:48Speaker 1: I had hoped that the flame Flame Fruit was going
- 26:52Speaker 1: to stick around and be something that benefited our guys,
- 26:57Speaker 1: and really, in the end, as long as it benefits
- 27:01Speaker 1: a good guy, that's for That's like fine. But I
- 27:08Speaker 1: was interested in the dynamic and how that might change
- 27:12Speaker 1: if one of our crew who doesn't have powers ete
- 27:16Speaker 1: this fruit, and who would we give it to, who
- 27:19Speaker 1: would even want it? You know, I genuinely I really
- 27:25Speaker 1: can't decide if Lufy were to come back to the
- 27:28Speaker 1: ship with the fruit and offer it to everybody and
- 27:32Speaker 1: be like, who wants to eat it? I really don't
- 27:36Speaker 1: know who would be willing to give it a try,
- 27:39Speaker 1: because it has its drawbacks with like not being able
- 27:44Speaker 1: to swim, and we have seen that comes up fairly
- 27:47Speaker 1: often for Loofy, So it's not like something that you
- 27:50Speaker 1: should just not consider. And also a lot of our
- 27:56Speaker 1: people fight already in a certain way that like, I
- 28:03Speaker 1: don't know if this would help or hinder them at first.
- 28:07Speaker 1: It's just a lot of adjustment. So the whole thing
- 28:12Speaker 1: with the fruit is and also has Look, I'm just
- 28:16Speaker 1: gonna say this is like a sort of soft hearted thing,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but I'm still gonna say it that I kind of
- 28:22Speaker 1: want Sabo to stick around just because he meant so
- 28:25Speaker 1: much to Loofy and Lufy just utterly lost his shit
- 28:29Speaker 1: when he saw Sabo, and the reaction that he had
- 28:33Speaker 1: was so like gratifying that I kind of just don't
- 28:38Speaker 1: want Lufy to lose anyone again, you know. I just
- 28:44Speaker 1: I really want him to be able to have the
- 28:49Speaker 1: people that mean something stay close to him after losing
- 28:54Speaker 1: Ace the way that he did. It feels like he's
- 28:57Speaker 1: being given a little bit of like I don't want
- 29:00Speaker 1: to say a second chance, because that doesn't really make sense,
- 29:03Speaker 1: but it feels like he's he's being given a gift,
- 29:10Speaker 1: and I don't think he would hold it against him
- 29:12Speaker 1: at all if Sabo went off and did his own thing.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But I also can't help but wonder if Loofy has
- 29:21Speaker 1: changed after losing Ace in such a way that letting
- 29:25Speaker 1: Sabo walk off and do his own thing, it would
- 29:29Speaker 1: he have a harder time with that now than he did, because,
- 29:33Speaker 1: like you know, it was just some weird guys. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: stand by this. I don't know how you all feel.
- 29:39Speaker 1: But back in the day when it was clear something
- 29:43Speaker 1: was up with Ace and his weaver card was like
- 29:47Speaker 1: moving around and starting to burn, and Lufy was noticing,
- 29:50Speaker 1: and people were like, don't you think we should go
- 29:52Speaker 1: check on him? And Lufy was like, no, he can
- 29:54Speaker 1: handle himself. I'm sure he's fine. I just did feel
- 29:58Speaker 1: at the time like that he is such a He's
- 30:02Speaker 1: always so worried about his friends, and it seems like
- 30:06Speaker 1: always wanting to prove to people that he'll have their back.
- 30:10Speaker 1: That it didn't really ring true for me. And now
- 30:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if he has like more of
- 30:21Speaker 1: a reaction. But the question is, are we going to
- 30:27Speaker 1: see any real character development from Loofy, because honestly, I
- 30:34Speaker 1: don't feel like that's the goal with him as a character.
- 30:38Speaker 1: It seems to me that he's pretty much the same
- 30:40Speaker 1: person that he was when he lost Ace, and the
- 30:43Speaker 1: loss of Ace has like it weighs on him, but
- 30:47Speaker 1: it doesn't really seem to have changed the way Lufy
- 30:50Speaker 1: approaches life. You know, it doesn't like he has learned
- 30:56Speaker 1: new fighting techniques and has bigger goals in real action
- 31:00Speaker 1: to having lost Ace. But that's not really the same
- 31:05Speaker 1: thing as like a fundamental shift in the way that
- 31:08Speaker 1: you look at the world. So I don't know. There's
- 31:15Speaker 1: there's a lot of things that it's really about whether
- 31:18Speaker 1: or not I think we're gonna be moving in a
- 31:20Speaker 1: certain direction in the type of story that we're telling,
- 31:23Speaker 1: and I don't know if we are. Florian says, if
- 31:28Speaker 1: push comes to shove Sanjy, he won't waste food. Oh
- 31:31Speaker 1: my god, that's actually a really solid point. Fair enough, Florian,
- 31:36Speaker 1: fair enough, Yeah, he won't waste food is pretty good.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I like that, and Sonji was the one that I
- 31:43Speaker 1: kept thinking of because in terms of the way that
- 31:45Speaker 1: he fights with kicking, and that he already like gets
- 31:49Speaker 1: like when he's angry, he basically lights on fire. I
- 31:56Speaker 1: think that probably it is the most likely, but I uh,
- 32:03Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I could.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Zoro definitely wouldn't. I feel like Zoro is such a
- 32:07Speaker 1: creature of habit, and he's not somebody that I think
- 32:11Speaker 1: is interested in changing up his life so dramatically by
- 32:15Speaker 1: taking on something like this. I feel like, oosup, He's
- 32:20Speaker 1: just a scaredy cat. I don't think he would do
- 32:22Speaker 1: anything risky, so I'm gonna say no to that too. Obviously,
- 32:28Speaker 1: Chopper's already eaten a fruit, so he's off the table.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Frankie has firepower literally due to him being a cyborg,
- 32:39Speaker 1: so that doesn't really work or matter, and not me
- 32:47Speaker 1: I feel like could take it. I feel like, out
- 32:52Speaker 1: of everybody, honestly, she's the one that I think makes
- 32:55Speaker 1: the most sense if we're talking about leveling up the
- 32:57Speaker 1: game of all of our friends. Like Sanji, I think
- 33:02Speaker 1: is the best candidate in a vacuum, but he can
- 33:08Speaker 1: fight already, He's already one of the people that we
- 33:12Speaker 1: put forth when we're trying to like just do some damage.
- 33:16Speaker 1: He doesn't need the fruit. I feel like Nomy needs
- 33:22Speaker 1: a boost in a way that is outside of this
- 33:28Speaker 1: weather stick that she uses, which I know you guys
- 33:30Speaker 1: have told me a million times what it's called, but
- 33:33Speaker 1: I'm not going to remember it because the name is bad.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And I have felt passionately from the beginning about wanting
- 33:43Speaker 1: there to be more like supercharged women in the story.
- 33:48Speaker 1: So I feel like I want Namy to be the one,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but I don't think that seems like where we're going
- 33:55Speaker 1: with her character at all. And I said, like I said,
- 34:00Speaker 1: lufy being the only one with a devil fruit power earlier,
- 34:04Speaker 1: I think I had forgotten about Robin. Obviously there's Chopper,
- 34:07Speaker 1: but Chopper's devil fruit power is just so like weird
- 34:11Speaker 1: that it doesn't feel like it totally counts to me.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But anyway, so yeah, I just uh, I a Tsabo.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I'm like rooting for you, but with some reservations. It's
- 34:27Speaker 1: not like I don't want you to win. I do.
- 34:30Speaker 1: At this point, I should probably be rooting a little
- 34:33Speaker 1: bit more for Rebecca than I am, but I just
- 34:37Speaker 1: don't like her or care about her, and I don't
- 34:40Speaker 1: know how to undo that exactly. So that's that's sort
- 34:46Speaker 1: of the deal there. I'm gonna jump ahead. Here we
- 34:50Speaker 1: meet Luji and this guy is wild. Oh also Brookie
- 34:57Speaker 1: of Fruit. Thank you, Florian, You're right, I can't believe
- 35:00Speaker 1: if I forgot my beloved brook How dare I sickening?
- 35:05Speaker 1: But Lougie, it's so funny because the way that he
- 35:09Speaker 1: is animated. They definitely sort of let go of this
- 35:13Speaker 1: eventually because I think that it's probably a difficult thing
- 35:17Speaker 1: to keep up with in terms of animation. But Lougie
- 35:21Speaker 1: is uh drawn as really trembling, like he's got this
- 35:28Speaker 1: this The camera is looking at the toy soldier from
- 35:33Speaker 1: between his legs at one point, and his legs are
- 35:37Speaker 1: shaking wildly, and it's really meant to emphasize his age.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I think it's just weird because like, despite his age,
- 35:47Speaker 1: the dude is super strong and it doesn't really seem
- 35:52Speaker 1: to be like affecting anything with his overall performance. And
- 36:00Speaker 1: he like takes them all off guard because they didn't
- 36:04Speaker 1: think that there was going to be an executive on
- 36:08Speaker 1: the elevator that they're taking. So him getting his hands
- 36:13Speaker 1: on the toy soldier is. It's quite devastating just from
- 36:18Speaker 1: what I understood as it was happening. But then once
- 36:21Speaker 1: you find out who the toy soldier is, I was like, oh, no, oh,
- 36:24Speaker 1: that's even worse. Like uh, and I'm curious if the
- 36:32Speaker 1: crew do Flamingo's crew, if they are aware of the
- 36:39Speaker 1: toy soldier and the danger that he poses, because we
- 36:44Speaker 1: did see him just sort of walking around on the
- 36:46Speaker 1: streets and stuff, but there was sort of a vibe
- 36:49Speaker 1: to him, and it was like it could have been
- 36:54Speaker 1: that he was being very like secretive and sketchy about
- 36:59Speaker 1: stuff simply because he is doing some secret things, or
- 37:04Speaker 1: it could be that he was worried about being spotted.
- 37:07Speaker 1: And I'm not really sure which one it is, but
- 37:10Speaker 1: I I had never stopped to question why it is
- 37:17Speaker 1: that he, as a toy, is able to do his
- 37:19Speaker 1: own thing. And I realized, much to my own shame,
- 37:27Speaker 1: the reason that I never questioned it was because I
- 37:30Speaker 1: keep conflating the little people with toys and they're different,
- 37:37Speaker 1: and I know they're different. They don't even really look alike,
- 37:40Speaker 1: but there's a sense of them just being so small
- 37:44Speaker 1: and dull like that. I I was just like, in
- 37:51Speaker 1: my head kind of categorizing them in the same place,
- 37:55Speaker 1: which is highly disrespectful. So I realized, like, that was
- 38:01Speaker 1: where my head was at. Not even when it's revealed
- 38:06Speaker 1: why he has his own free will, it was revealed,
- 38:11Speaker 1: not revealed. It was when the uh, that little group
- 38:14Speaker 1: of small folk get turned into black bears, I think
- 38:19Speaker 1: is what sugar turns them into. And when they're transformed,
- 38:23Speaker 1: I had a moment of like, well, what did that
- 38:25Speaker 1: even do? And then I had to be like, what
- 38:27Speaker 1: do you mean, what did that do? They're not toys, Natasha. Yeah, okay,
- 38:30Speaker 1: maybe they look like toys fair, but they're not, so
- 38:34Speaker 1: stop thinking about them that way. So, yeah, a lot
- 38:38Speaker 1: of a lot of things that my brain has not
- 38:41Speaker 1: been adequately processing. Everybody, and that is my bath. Saraphim says,
- 38:49Speaker 1: pretty sure, he's a known rogue toy, but none of
- 38:52Speaker 1: them would know just how dangerous he could be since
- 38:54Speaker 1: the memory erasure affects them as well. Oh that's a
- 38:57Speaker 1: good point, Saraphem. I think that I had forgotten or
- 39:01Speaker 1: didn't really know whether or not the memory thing affects
- 39:04Speaker 1: all of them also, and the fact that they immediately
- 39:11Speaker 1: forget the people that they turned I mean it makes sense.
- 39:13Speaker 1: I'm sure it doesn't matter most of the time, because
- 39:16Speaker 1: if this contract that keeps them like under control is
- 39:22Speaker 1: so well done, they don't need to remember. It's not
- 39:26Speaker 1: gonna be like a detriment to them. But because he
- 39:31Speaker 1: isn't under contract, he's the only one that not remembering
- 39:34Speaker 1: him would be a problem. So that's interesting. And the
- 39:38Speaker 1: reason for those who have forgotten that he is not
- 39:43Speaker 1: under this contract is because he's the first one that
- 39:46Speaker 1: Sugar ever turned into a toy. And evidently she wasn't
- 39:52Speaker 1: doing the contract thing when she first did it, like
- 39:56Speaker 1: she either that idea had not been come up with,
- 40:00Speaker 1: or it was sort of in the midst of so
- 40:02Speaker 1: much chaos that she hadn't like gotten used to doing it,
- 40:06Speaker 1: or it wasn't organized enough. I don't know, but I
- 40:11Speaker 1: just like want to mention something that I don't think
- 40:16Speaker 1: I fully stopped and considered, and now I have to
- 40:20Speaker 1: really admit, freaks me out. Everybody's abilities when they eat
- 40:27Speaker 1: these devil fruit, we often will have somebody turn up
- 40:34Speaker 1: who it feels like, I don't think that this is fair.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Your power is too good, and turning the ability to
- 40:50Speaker 1: turn somebody into a toy that should be all, okay,
- 40:58Speaker 1: that should be it. That should be the power you
- 41:01Speaker 1: turn people into toys. But it's three powers. It's I
- 41:08Speaker 1: turn them into a toy. They have to do what
- 41:12Speaker 1: I tell them to do, and nobody remembers them. I
- 41:19Speaker 1: have to say that I call bullshit a little bit.
- 41:23Speaker 1: I really feel like there should be an additional devil
- 41:27Speaker 1: fruit powered person involved with this process. I think having
- 41:31Speaker 1: it all be the result of one person's ability doesn't
- 41:36Speaker 1: really make a lot of sense. And it feels like
- 41:39Speaker 1: we have had to combine all of these abilities into
- 41:42Speaker 1: one person to make it so that just taking her
- 41:44Speaker 1: out will be enough. And also that like we had
- 41:53Speaker 1: to construct a series of circumstances as to how people
- 41:58Speaker 1: could be turned into toy with nobody asking any questions
- 42:03Speaker 1: and with the toys not attempting to break out of
- 42:05Speaker 1: their enslavement and everything. So in order to do that,
- 42:10Speaker 1: you have to come up with a memory thing, and
- 42:11Speaker 1: you have to come up with the like obligation via
- 42:15Speaker 1: this contract. But I think that ODA is trying to
- 42:21Speaker 1: like cover too many bases with this one ability, and
- 42:26Speaker 1: so it results in this ability feeling almost like not
- 42:31Speaker 1: a devil fruit power anymore. It's starting to feel like
- 42:34Speaker 1: we've got a whole other thing happening here, and it
- 42:39Speaker 1: she just it seems like this ability comes with so
- 42:43Speaker 1: many more extras than we normally see. What we see
- 42:47Speaker 1: from people doing like really a variety of things with
- 42:53Speaker 1: their power is usually that they are finding creative new
- 43:00Speaker 1: ways to implement that power. But her powers don't have
- 43:05Speaker 1: anything to do with each other. Changing people into a
- 43:08Speaker 1: toy and memory aren't linked in any way. One is
- 43:13Speaker 1: like totally physical and the other one is mental and
- 43:16Speaker 1: it's affecting everybody but the person that she touched. And
- 43:20Speaker 1: then there's the contract thing, which is a mental thing
- 43:24Speaker 1: on the person that she really should only be affecting physically.
- 43:28Speaker 1: It just feels like we've got a lot that we're
- 43:31Speaker 1: working with with her, and it for me is like
- 43:35Speaker 1: a weakness just because I don't feel like we've ever
- 43:38Speaker 1: seen a character before that has this many extremely powerful
- 43:43Speaker 1: and very specific but totally unrelated skills. Like I don't know,
- 43:49Speaker 1: I don't know how you guys feel.
- 43:51Speaker 2: But.
- 43:53Speaker 1: SARAHM says four, it also prevents you from aging. Oh,
- 43:59Speaker 1: Server isn't actually a little kid, She's actually Harpy's older sister.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Oh did we know that I must have missed that
- 44:07Speaker 1: because I knew that she was related to Monet, but
- 44:10Speaker 1: I didn't remember that she was older. Okay, but yeah,
- 44:13Speaker 1: just how much of a superpower lottery her fruit is
- 44:16Speaker 1: is often called out? Okay, I'm glad that I'm not
- 44:19Speaker 1: the only one thinking that. And like I said, I
- 44:21Speaker 1: really think that this is a result of like I
- 44:23Speaker 1: had to create this scenario on the island where people
- 44:27Speaker 1: are being turned into toys and for some reason, nobody's noticing.
- 44:32Speaker 1: And I just think that what you would want to do,
- 44:37Speaker 1: ideally is have a few people working in concert to
- 44:42Speaker 1: accomplish that. And honestly, from the start, that was the
- 44:46Speaker 1: function I thought Treble was performing. I thought that she
- 44:51Speaker 1: was doing the toy thing and that he was doing
- 44:54Speaker 1: the memory thing or the obedience thing or whatever. It
- 44:57Speaker 1: wasn't until we're really shown more explicit how that works.
- 45:03Speaker 1: So the fact that all of that is her is
- 45:08Speaker 1: kind of shocking. Once I fully comprehended, I was like,
- 45:13Speaker 1: that just seems like way too much. So anyway, I'm
- 45:20Speaker 1: I was talking about her, and I may as well. Like,
- 45:22Speaker 1: now that I'm sort of running out of time, I
- 45:23Speaker 1: cannot believe how little of the plot I've actually covered.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I'm sorry, guys, but like, there's just a lot of
- 45:27Speaker 1: implications around this stuff, and I think it's fine because
- 45:30Speaker 1: the plots take so long to actually unspool because of
- 45:35Speaker 1: using a lot of filler that I probably it's not
- 45:39Speaker 1: even going to matter because we're barely going to move
- 45:41Speaker 1: forward in a lot of senses in the next episodes.
- 45:44Speaker 1: But what happens here is that they try to get
- 45:47Speaker 1: her to eat this like tabasco thingy. She just tosses
- 45:51Speaker 1: it out of her bowl, and it's unclear how she knows.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I'm assuming it's not really like I know that this
- 45:58Speaker 1: is a poisonous you know, like trick. My assumption is
- 46:02Speaker 1: she picks it up and it doesn't feel like a
- 46:04Speaker 1: regular grape, and she just gets rid of it because
- 46:07Speaker 1: she's like, oh, that was rotten or something, and so
- 46:10Speaker 1: for her to just casually throw it aside was honestly
- 46:14Speaker 1: very funny. As much as I was at the time,
- 46:18Speaker 1: everything else hadn't started going wrong yet, so when that
- 46:22Speaker 1: goes wrong, I was still kind of like able to
- 46:26Speaker 1: roll with it and think it was funny because the
- 46:28Speaker 1: anxiety hadn't kicked in, and also the fact that it's
- 46:33Speaker 1: built up so much. Everybody is standing staring watching her
- 46:36Speaker 1: about to eat this fruit. It takes a long time
- 46:39Speaker 1: for her to actually pick the one that they have
- 46:41Speaker 1: put the pepper in, because she keeps eating the wrong ones.
- 46:44Speaker 1: So it's this really drawn out sequence and you're just
- 46:47Speaker 1: like waiting for it, and then it doesn't happen. And truly,
- 46:52Speaker 1: the way it was done caught me off guard, and
- 46:54Speaker 1: I was laughing. I will say again too that her
- 47:00Speaker 1: being like so shocked that she passes out from this
- 47:04Speaker 1: pepper I still feel like doesn't really match up with
- 47:08Speaker 1: the way they talked about surprising her. But whatever, it
- 47:13Speaker 1: doesn't seem like that matters anymore because it failed utterly,
- 47:16Speaker 1: and we have one of the little people just being
- 47:19Speaker 1: so devastated that she tossed it aside and yelling when
- 47:23Speaker 1: she does. It's wos up keeps on being like, stop
- 47:28Speaker 1: making so much noise. But evidently it doesn't matter because
- 47:32Speaker 1: it was like seemed to be dead silent in that
- 47:35Speaker 1: room when she checked the grape aside and they screamed
- 47:38Speaker 1: and she had no reaction, So I don't know how
- 47:41Speaker 1: much it even matters at this point, And so we
- 47:46Speaker 1: wind up with this like outright confrontation and what are
- 47:53Speaker 1: they called tantata? The people they are so gullible that
- 48:00Speaker 1: she and later on Trouble are able to trick them
- 48:04Speaker 1: into just telling them stuff over and over again because
- 48:08Speaker 1: they are not used to having to defend their like
- 48:13Speaker 1: information from people who know the kind of minds that
- 48:19Speaker 1: they themselves have, like the tantanta being as is it tantanta?
- 48:24Speaker 1: Am I right about this? But they are so gullible
- 48:29Speaker 1: And I'm not sure how long it usually takes people
- 48:31Speaker 1: to notice that and how much folks try to deceive them,
- 48:35Speaker 1: but clearly, like these people have their number, and it
- 48:39Speaker 1: was just painful to see how many of them keep
- 48:42Speaker 1: like getting tricked and falling into these traps, and I
- 48:45Speaker 1: felt so bad for them. I was like, come on,
- 48:48Speaker 1: guys and Treble, they have decided to try and like
- 48:54Speaker 1: get her backup pulled away by making it seem as
- 49:02Speaker 1: if a bunch of people have started fighting in another
- 49:05Speaker 1: spot and it's Robin who does this whole like, you know, sir,
- 49:09Speaker 1: we need your help, but it's actually wasps, and so
- 49:14Speaker 1: they're trying to like knock the wasps off them, and
- 49:18Speaker 1: from far away, it's supposed to look like they're fighting,
- 49:23Speaker 1: and as he is like watching this and sort of
- 49:26Speaker 1: puzzled by it, Trouble is being summoned back by Sugar
- 49:32Speaker 1: the whole time, and eventually he gets back and it's
- 49:36Speaker 1: a big problem. But in the meanwhile we get to
- 49:39Speaker 1: see how he deals with these these people once he
- 49:44Speaker 1: realizes that he has been tricked. And I've got to say,
- 49:49Speaker 1: I still don't feel like I really get the power
- 49:53Speaker 1: that he has, and maybe I'm not supposed to yet,
- 49:58Speaker 1: but he's it seems like it's paramesium, is not the
- 50:02Speaker 1: one where he turns into this like thing, and it's
- 50:07Speaker 1: almost like he becomes a booger. And I can't tell
- 50:12Speaker 1: if I'm just saying that because he has boogers hanging
- 50:14Speaker 1: out all the time, because it may be that simple
- 50:17Speaker 1: that now I've just grown to associate him with boogers
- 50:19Speaker 1: and anything he does that turns sort of amorphous, I'm like, oh,
- 50:23Speaker 1: that's more snot, you know. But his powers once they
- 50:28Speaker 1: bust out are he He at one point shoots a fly,
- 50:38Speaker 1: and when I say shoots, it's like he's using his ability,
- 50:40Speaker 1: not a gun. But later on Robin points out that
- 50:46Speaker 1: he somehow nailed this fly between the eyes, which points
- 50:51Speaker 1: to that he has truly insane vision and also incredible aim.
- 50:58Speaker 1: And when he hit the fly that went right through
- 51:03Speaker 1: the wall. So it was just a complete like it
- 51:08Speaker 1: was like a tiny bomb. Is really what it felt
- 51:11Speaker 1: like to me? Sorry? Uh? Saraphim in the chat says, yeah.
- 51:18Speaker 1: All the yelling and a lot of other bits that
- 51:20Speaker 1: seem like they shouldn't work right here are a result
- 51:23Speaker 1: of anime padding. This all went down much faster in
- 51:26Speaker 1: the manga. Oh okay, and yes tantata okay, I'm glad
- 51:29Speaker 1: I remember that, right, And no, you're right. It's basically
- 51:32Speaker 1: then snot fruit. Yeah, he's easily one of the most
- 51:35Speaker 1: annoying and disgusting characters in the series. He really, it's
- 51:39Speaker 1: like it's everything, it's his animation. Also, the voice that
- 51:43Speaker 1: they give him is so annoying. The voice actor is
- 51:46Speaker 1: doing a great job. I'm certain that that's the reaction
- 51:50Speaker 1: I'm meant to have, But just like as it's occurring,
- 51:53Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, shut up, I hate you. Florian says.
- 51:57Speaker 1: I don't know if we heard it yet, but he
- 51:59Speaker 1: is a gloomy interesting okay, so, but so things like
- 52:06Speaker 1: are still in a pretty bad situation there. We have
- 52:10Speaker 1: not gotten out of that yet, And I'm gonna just
- 52:15Speaker 1: sort of jump over briefly to the situation with the
- 52:19Speaker 1: castle and the palace walls. This dude who is the
- 52:27Speaker 1: palace walls is uh. He like twists up the staircase
- 52:34Speaker 1: in such a way that things are like heading in
- 52:36Speaker 1: the wrong direction. And it's very funny because once the
- 52:41Speaker 1: Samurai notices this, he's like, oh no, how could this happen?
- 52:46Speaker 1: And now what do we do? And Wika is like,
- 52:50Speaker 1: I you have to go up and then we have
- 52:53Speaker 1: to go downward from there because you have to. And
- 52:55Speaker 1: he's like, well, that's insane, and if you knew that,
- 52:59Speaker 1: why didn't you tell me that before? And she's like,
- 53:01Speaker 1: I fucking tried, And we see him like shoving her,
- 53:05Speaker 1: like it flashes back to him shoving her into his
- 53:08Speaker 1: jacket a little bit further and just being like you're
- 53:11Speaker 1: too important and I need you to stay safe and
- 53:13Speaker 1: not listening to anything she says. And I can't tell
- 53:17Speaker 1: if it sank in for him that maybe he should
- 53:19Speaker 1: like give what she says a bit more credence from
- 53:20Speaker 1: now on, or if he's just gonna keep on making
- 53:22Speaker 1: the same dumbass mistake in true Loofy fashion. But this
- 53:28Speaker 1: this whole like palace wall thing is bonkers. And eventually
- 53:34Speaker 1: it's Zorro stepping up and being like, look, Loofy, you
- 53:40Speaker 1: have to go on, let me deal with this fucking guy.
- 53:43Speaker 1: And that makes sense because Lufy, being alone, you know,
- 53:49Speaker 1: to meet the final boss, so to speak, is really
- 53:52Speaker 1: the way it has to go. But this, this guy,
- 53:57Speaker 1: I really don't know. Zoro keeps coming at him with
- 54:01Speaker 1: these bananas powerful attacks, and even though they have some effect,
- 54:08Speaker 1: it's not like they're not doing anything. But this guy
- 54:11Speaker 1: can be a palace basically, he can be so enormous,
- 54:16Speaker 1: Like I just can't quite wrap my head around how
- 54:20Speaker 1: you fight that. And Zorro's power is the best one
- 54:24Speaker 1: for it because we've seen him cut literal ships in half.
- 54:27Speaker 1: So if you need somebody to cut a palace in half,
- 54:31Speaker 1: that he's your guy for short, you know. But it
- 54:34Speaker 1: just it's almost like the scale is too big to
- 54:38Speaker 1: work on screen. I'm like, I feel like this might
- 54:41Speaker 1: be something that I could grasp a little bit better
- 54:44Speaker 1: in texts. I don't know, maybe not, maybe it'd be worse,
- 54:48Speaker 1: But that whole fight seems to be like the one
- 54:53Speaker 1: that lost my interest in a way faster because of
- 54:59Speaker 1: the fact that it was it's too difficult for me
- 55:02Speaker 1: to comprehend. It's just how like there's no frame of
- 55:07Speaker 1: reference for dealing with an enemy like this that I
- 55:10Speaker 1: can think of, and so it was like it's too
- 55:14Speaker 1: big to see. You know how that can be for
- 55:17Speaker 1: with dogs. People think dogs are going to freak out
- 55:19Speaker 1: about something, and it's like the dog, it's too big
- 55:21Speaker 1: a thing for the dog to even fully be afraid
- 55:24Speaker 1: of it. That's kind of how I felt with this,
- 55:26Speaker 1: where I was like, I feel like this sequence should
- 55:28Speaker 1: be more interesting than it is, but because the scale
- 55:31Speaker 1: of everything is so insane, it doesn't quite work in
- 55:37Speaker 1: grabbing me. And I'm just trying to make sure that
- 55:41Speaker 1: I'm talking about everybody because I'm almost out of time.
- 55:44Speaker 1: I'm so sorry everybody. But there is the whole thing
- 55:47Speaker 1: too with Frankie and he we have this like that
- 55:53Speaker 1: twin kid, which is how I think of him now
- 55:57Speaker 1: talking to Senor Pink and asking if he can like
- 56:00Speaker 1: jump in on the fight, and Senor Pink says, don't
- 56:05Speaker 1: get too cocky. Look at his choice of clothing. He's
- 56:08Speaker 1: a pervert. Cut from the same cloth as you, and
- 56:13Speaker 1: I love that they have him saying this as the
- 56:15Speaker 1: camera pulls way back to show us the bonker's clothing
- 56:20Speaker 1: that Signor Pink is wearing, and he says he's all
- 56:24Speaker 1: strength and no pants, and the twink is just like,
- 56:30Speaker 1: but the girls go for it. Oh, Signor, You're so
- 56:33Speaker 1: hard boiled. Once again, this hard boiled thing is truly funny.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I am not gonna get tired of it. I don't think.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I just it's just so bizarre, and I think you'd
- 56:44Speaker 1: expect me to dislike it more than I do, because
- 56:47Speaker 1: it's just a bunch of like scantily clad women getting
- 56:51Speaker 1: their tops ripped off. But it's so exaggerated that it's
- 56:57Speaker 1: difficult for me to even like be offended. I'm just like,
- 57:02Speaker 1: that is hilarious there. It's like an exploitation film sort
- 57:06Speaker 1: of thing where you're just like, Okay, I'm going into
- 57:08Speaker 1: this knowing what this is, you know, So I'm just
- 57:13Speaker 1: trying to like jump around a little bit and ensure
- 57:16Speaker 1: that I'm not forgetting anything. Oh. The one thing that
- 57:18Speaker 1: I want to talk about before I fully wrap up,
- 57:22Speaker 1: I do have a lot of feelings about the way
- 57:29Speaker 1: us up has been operating. I understand that he is
- 57:35Speaker 1: a coward, but I feel like in this arc we
- 57:39Speaker 1: are taking that to a place where now I am
- 57:42Speaker 1: disliking him and I don't want this. But the way
- 57:49Speaker 1: he is so willing to sacrifice the tantata and fully
- 57:56Speaker 1: saying I'll just stay back here, I don't want to
- 57:59Speaker 1: put myself at risk, it's ugly. I don't like it.
- 58:04Speaker 1: In the past he has been deeply afraid, but he
- 58:10Speaker 1: still like forces himself to do the thing, or he
- 58:13Speaker 1: gets shoved out in a way that he can't help.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Early enough on that you don't fully see the cowardice
- 58:23Speaker 1: in the way that you see in this arc. He
- 58:26Speaker 1: has been allowed to hang back for so long with
- 58:29Speaker 1: other people fighting the battle for him that it is
- 58:32Speaker 1: really really an unflattering portrayal of him. And I have
- 58:38Speaker 1: been judging him more and more every episode, but this
- 58:40Speaker 1: was the one where I got the most upset with
- 58:44Speaker 1: him about the way that he is behaving. I just
- 58:49Speaker 1: I want you to be more concerned about these little people.
- 58:55Speaker 1: They worship the ground you walk on, and you really
- 58:57Speaker 1: seem truly to be like whatever about them getting heard,
- 59:01Speaker 1: and it bothers me a lot Serafim says, also, you
- 59:07Speaker 1: are not alone with the oos up issues in these scenes,
- 59:09Speaker 1: which again is largely an anime issue of them drawing
- 59:12Speaker 1: this all out for padding, So he comes off as
- 59:13Speaker 1: spending way more time whining. That makes sense, you know,
- 59:17Speaker 1: like talking about that whole thing being padded out. And
- 59:20Speaker 1: like I said, usually he's not given enough time to
- 59:23Speaker 1: be a coward for me to grow so disdainful of him,
- 59:27Speaker 1: But because of the stretching it out, it just really
- 59:30Speaker 1: is like unpleasant to watch. So anyway, I'm sorry, guys.
- 59:36Speaker 1: I know that I was like really all over the place,
- 59:38Speaker 1: and in terms of like plot plot, I didn't move
- 59:40Speaker 1: forward that much, but I feel like I basically talked
- 59:42Speaker 1: about the important stuff. If there's anything that I missed,
- 59:45Speaker 1: I'm sure I will pick it up next episode. But
- 59:47Speaker 1: I did like these these episodes a lot. It's just
- 59:50Speaker 1: they brought up a lot of questions for me, so
- 59:52Speaker 1: I'll be interested to find out more. And I just
- 59:59Speaker 1: really I want to see what Rebecca does when she
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: finds out that this legend she's worshiped forever is her father,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: because I feel like that's a lot. I feel like
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: that's a lot, a lot I mean, I don't know,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: It's like me finding out my mom's Beyonce or something,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: you know, like what do you even do? All right, everybody,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: thank you all again and until next time to the
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: lou motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast.
