- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody good. Morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:32Today is a day where. I actually don't have to drive
- 0:36anywhere. In the morning and that may.
- 0:38Sound strange? To you, but on a Saturday for 2
- 0:421/2 years every morning, Saturday morning I have had to.
- 0:46Drive my son early. To a job that he had and I would
- 0:51have to get up. Get the chickens.
- 0:54Get. The dogs get everybody taken
- 0:55care of and then move on. And drive my son to.
- 1:00This job that he had and I never minded.
- 1:04It was such a great thing. It's not far away.
- 1:06It was a. Perfect thing in training for
- 1:08him and this morning is the 1st morning that I don't have to do
- 1:12it and he doesn't have to wake up on a Saturday.
- 1:15So he is currently doing an apprenticeship and this
- 1:20apprenticeship is going to lead him right into his career.
- 1:23He is, we're shifting his school schedule in order to accommodate
- 1:27this. He's going to be doing three
- 1:30days a week on site with this company and being trained to be
- 1:34a plumber and he is loving it. And then he'll do two days a
- 1:38week of online school. He'll get credit for doing all
- 1:41the plumbing work and it gives him the weekends off.
- 1:45But wow can I just say I never even realized how driving him.
- 1:53Like was. Such a pattern that I worked
- 1:55everything around it. So this morning, here I am, I'm
- 1:59saying, all right. And I was in the same mode I'm
- 2:02I've always been in, even though I knew I didn't have to drive.
- 2:05And I was like, OK, I'm going to get up.
- 2:07And then I realized, oh, wait, I don't have to drive.
- 2:10Then I was like, Oh my goodness, I can, after I shoot the
- 2:13podcast, I can actually go and take the camera and film before
- 2:17the sun comes up completely and it gets too hot because it's
- 2:21really hot here right now. And I started to get all excited
- 2:25and I was like, wow, isn't it amazing how 1 little thing.
- 2:28Now this drive from beginning to end, the total drive took me 1/2
- 2:33an hour, 15 minutes out, 15 minutes back.
- 2:36Not a big deal, but how that one little thing it, it, it really
- 2:42like changed the portion of the morning because by the time I
- 2:45would get back from that drive, I could the sun was already over
- 2:48the trees. It was going to be hot already.
- 2:52And then therefore I couldn't actually go out and film the
- 2:55same way. I mean, I could do it, but it
- 2:57was going to be in the hot sun. So I'm bringing this up because
- 3:01I want you to recognize how these little things like this
- 3:05something that didn't even annoy me that I was happy to take him
- 3:09when it's out and you know, you have some restructuring, boy,
- 3:14how does that change everything? Now in the same, the same story.
- 3:18Part of it, he's got to drive, He's got to get to his
- 3:20apprenticeship. And I drive him down to the
- 3:24apprenticeship. Now, those three days a week, so
- 3:27Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, which I normally don't do.
- 3:30I've I've never driven during the week because I work
- 3:33remotely. So now I'm doing that with him
- 3:36in the morning and we're getting up even earlier.
- 3:38Now here's the other thing. You would think, Oh OK, yes,
- 3:41you're beating all the traffic. But then that eats into the time
- 3:44that I would get up and I would actually use for creative time.
- 3:48And boy, how that has changed something.
- 3:50So all of these little tiny things, little tiny things.
- 3:55And that ride is much longer. That's 1/2 an hour down and 1/2
- 3:58an hour back. So it's an hour out of my
- 4:01morning before I even start coaching.
- 4:04So it makes a. Massive difference to how I'm
- 4:07structuring my day and what I'm doing.
- 4:09But the point of bringing all of.
- 4:11This up is to say. One, I enjoy the ride with him
- 4:14in the morning because we get to talk about all.
- 4:16Kinds of. Stuff and I'm learning all the
- 4:18plumbing. Things, my friends.
- 4:19He's telling me everything about plumbing tools and how we need
- 4:22Milwaukee tools and how he, he can fix this for me and he wants
- 4:26to do that and how the plumber who initially built our house
- 4:30didn't, you know, do it the right way And he, you know, he
- 4:33didn't can't even use the proper putty, mom.
- 4:35He's checking all the sinks and it just makes my heart so happy
- 4:40to see him so happy doing this. And.
- 4:43I get to spend that extra time with him and really talk to him
- 4:47in the car, so that part's totally fine.
- 4:49But what do I do about the? Lost hours.
- 4:51That's where my certainty curl comes and she says, well, what
- 4:54do I do about the lost hours? Well, find a way to shift other
- 4:59things around. And that's the whole point of
- 5:00this, looking at your days, looking at what you're doing and
- 5:04saying, how am I going to change this up?
- 5:05How am I going to change the whole thing up?
- 5:08How am I going to shift this so that I can truly make a, a
- 5:12difference in how I'm doing something and in, in whatever it
- 5:16is, the projects, the people, whatever.
- 5:18But how can I shift my time around and look at it and view
- 5:21it differently? So I am working on this now
- 5:24pushing my Monday and Tuesday when I'm not driving, driving to
- 5:28the days where I would normally stretch projects out longer.
- 5:31I'm going to power in those Monday and Tuesdays.
- 5:33And then that's how I'm going to solve my problem.
- 5:35Now that may seem like, oh, what are you going to do?
- 5:37Get up earlier? Yes, yes, I'm going to get up
- 5:39earlier. And if that means I get up at
- 5:414:00 AM, that means I get up at 4:00 AM because guess what?
- 5:44That's how you get things done. So if I'm on a path of
- 5:48greatness, I'm going to stick to it.
- 5:50So I hope you guys have a blessed day.
- 5:53I hope this helps and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:55Bye.
