- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Mark Simone Show Live from ther
- 0:04Speaker 1: Life Back Studios. Well John Fund, the brilliant writer, columnist,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Wall Street Journal, National Review, working that runs the Committee
- 0:15Speaker 1: to Unleashed Prosperity. And he's written a book that came
- 0:19Speaker 1: out a little while ago. But you got to read
- 0:20Speaker 1: this book. It's called Our Broken Elections, really explains things
- 0:25Speaker 1: to you. Very important book are broken elections, and it's
- 0:28Speaker 1: good to have them back with us. John Fund, how
- 0:30Speaker 1: you doing pleasure?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Thanks? The Canadians or invasion has more or less gone away.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Well, but it could start again. President Trump is right
- 0:40Speaker 1: to get on them. They could do some forests maintenance.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Make sure this doesn't happen again, can't They?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Both Canada and the US don't allow controlled burns in
- 0:53Speaker 2: a lot of their government land, and that's one of
- 0:56Speaker 2: the reasons that we have these fires.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's time to stop listening to these climate
- 1:01Speaker 1: change nuts. They're wrong about some things and this is
- 1:04Speaker 1: certainly one of them. Hey, before we get to the elections,
- 1:06Speaker 1: let me ask you something about Great Britain got a
- 1:08Speaker 1: new prime minister today. What does that mean for us?
- 1:14Speaker 1: It means, I.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Think, sadly that the new labor Party Prime minister is
- 1:20Speaker 2: going to have a honeymoon and Britain will, briefly until
- 1:24Speaker 2: they get disappointed rally around him. This guy is trouble.
- 1:28Speaker 2: He spoke to the Labor Party conference last week and
- 1:33Speaker 2: said all of our problems are either because of Thatcher
- 1:36Speaker 2: or the United States. We have to nationalize various industries.
- 1:40Speaker 2: In other words, we need more socialism. The kind of
- 1:44Speaker 2: democratic socialists we have in America are now actually in
- 1:46Speaker 2: charge in Britain.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I asked, hey. The other problem is whatever happens.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Otherwise, have a nice cup of tea.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But often what happens in Britain is like the canary
- 2:00Speaker 1: in the coal mine about what's going to happen here?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Does that?
- 2:02Speaker 2: Well? The good news is, you know, the Labor Party
- 2:06Speaker 2: is extremely unpopular because they've done nothing to solve Britain's
- 2:09Speaker 2: underlying economic or social or immigration problems. And as a result,
- 2:15Speaker 2: Nigel Farage is still the favor to become the next
- 2:17Speaker 2: British Prime minister. After this, we just have we just
- 2:20Speaker 2: have to wait a couple of years for an election.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And that's why they're doing so much to try to
- 2:25Speaker 2: discredit Nigel Farage. And look, the real issue that we
- 2:29Speaker 2: have to worry about is you know, Britain is seeing
- 2:32Speaker 2: an upsurge in left wing political violence. We just had
- 2:35Speaker 2: that former cabinet minister who was brutally murdered in her
- 2:38Speaker 2: home at age seventy eight. Nigel Farage has been threatened
- 2:42Speaker 2: by people who've been arrested for that. One of the
- 2:45Speaker 2: people who is in jail for threatening Nigel Farage is
- 2:48Speaker 2: sending out TikTok videos threatening other people. We have a
- 2:52Speaker 2: left wing violence problem in this country. My colleague Noah
- 2:55Speaker 2: Roffman at National Review has a new book out of
- 2:58Speaker 2: this subject, and I have to tell you, you remember
- 3:02Speaker 2: that medical executive from United Healthcare who was gone down
- 3:05Speaker 2: on the streets of New York. Yeah, this is not
- 3:08Speaker 2: This is not an isolated phenomenon. We are seeing Antifa
- 3:13Speaker 2: and people who want to threaten and intimidate their opponents
- 3:17Speaker 2: all over this country. Look, I'm not an apologist for
- 3:20Speaker 2: the January sixth people. I think some of those people
- 3:23Speaker 2: should have gone to jail, but they are dwarfed by
- 3:27Speaker 2: the number of left wingers who are ignored by the media,
- 3:29Speaker 2: who are constantly out there threatening people and have trumped
- 3:33Speaker 2: arrangement syndrome.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So this crazy move to the left, the Democrats, the
- 3:37Speaker 1: socialist mom don all this the violence. How do you
- 3:40Speaker 1: bring this to an end? Will it ever end? Will
- 3:42Speaker 1: the cycle change?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well, the first thing we have to do is make
- 3:47Speaker 2: sure that people understand that if they act violently or
- 3:50Speaker 2: threaten people, they will be prosecuted or they will be disciplined.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I think that's the most important thing. We need to
- 3:57Speaker 2: keep political disagreements. Non So, what we have to do
- 4:03Speaker 2: politically is I think the Democratic Party is going to
- 4:07Speaker 2: have to burn out this themselves. They are going to
- 4:10Speaker 2: have to start losing elections general elections. It's one thing
- 4:13Speaker 2: to elect someone in Mandami. Like Mandami, you know, this
- 4:17Speaker 2: is a city where Donald Trump got twenty five percent
- 4:19Speaker 2: of the vote. Denver, Colorado Kamala Harris Wong with eighty
- 4:24Speaker 2: five percent of the vote. They have to start losing
- 4:27Speaker 2: elections in places like Michigan where I think this guy
- 4:29Speaker 2: Abdul al said is going to be the Democratic candidate.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That's the way that the Democratic Party is going to
- 4:34Speaker 2: have to be convinced. You're going over the deep end
- 4:37Speaker 2: and it's time to pull back. Listen to John Fetterman,
- 4:40Speaker 2: don't primary John Fetterman.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Well, Fetterman is bad, but you got too many Chuck
- 4:45Speaker 1: Schumer Keem Jeffrey types who are afraid to speak up,
- 4:48Speaker 1: afraid to say anything.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Well, if I were Chuck Schumer and I were have
- 4:52Speaker 2: King Jeffries, I would be afraid too, because they could
- 4:55Speaker 2: lose Democratic primaries in New York and so I understand
- 4:58Speaker 2: their political hesitation. But remember, if you're trying to become
- 5:02Speaker 2: a leader, you're supposed to lead. And these people have
- 5:05Speaker 2: the courage of other people's convictions, namely the Democratic Socialists.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Hey, now I've got midterms coming up. You're the expert
- 5:12Speaker 1: on these election practices. Is it any better? Is the
- 5:16Speaker 1: election any more secure in state by the state by state?
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yes?
- 5:21Speaker 1: Oh good.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yes. We have about twenty eight states that have pretty
- 5:26Speaker 2: solid voter ID laws. We have many states that are
- 5:29Speaker 2: trying to also improve ballot security for mail in ballots.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I think we're going to see four more efforts to
- 5:37Speaker 2: try to require proof of citizenship in order to first
- 5:40Speaker 2: register to vote. Our elections are better than they were
- 5:42Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four, and certainly much better than they
- 5:44Speaker 2: were in twenty twenty. However, I think that the real
- 5:50Speaker 2: problem we have is there is an enthusiasm gap in
- 5:53Speaker 2: this election. Democrats are far more enthusiastic about voting against
- 5:58Speaker 2: Donald Trump and his friends than Republicans are in supporting,
- 6:03Speaker 2: you know, the big beautiful tax bill or the other
- 6:06Speaker 2: things that have been accomplished. I think Donald Trump hass
- 6:09Speaker 2: to have a take a Hail Mary pass between now
- 6:12Speaker 2: and the election. I think he should issue an executive
- 6:14Speaker 2: order mark where he says, if you own a house,
- 6:18Speaker 2: if you have a stock market portfolio, we're going to
- 6:21Speaker 2: index that to capital gains, so you don't pay taxes
- 6:25Speaker 2: on the illusionary inflationary gains. If you sell your house,
- 6:29Speaker 2: you sell your stock portfolio. And I think that that
- 6:32Speaker 2: would boost the economy. It would be fair. We index
- 6:35Speaker 2: everything else in our economy, including the tax brackets that
- 6:37Speaker 2: we pay money on. And I think that he can
- 6:40Speaker 2: do that simply with a reinterpretation of the IRS codes
- 6:44Speaker 2: using executive order.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's brilliant and it would work, and it's great.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But wouldn't that rile up Democrats media even more when
- 6:53Speaker 1: they go even crazier.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Well, already it's a a ten out of ten. Know
- 7:00Speaker 2: what else could they could do? And the point is
- 7:03Speaker 2: the point is even they, you know, would understand, Hey,
- 7:08Speaker 2: my house which I bought for five hundred thousand and
- 7:10Speaker 2: which is now worth a million, I wouldn't have to
- 7:13Speaker 2: pay any money on the inflationary gains that I have,
- 7:17Speaker 2: which you're illusory, and I would save money too. So
- 7:21Speaker 2: I think it would be a win win for most people,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and it would affect everyone, including the middle class, including
- 7:27Speaker 2: people who just have you know, a small ira include
- 7:32Speaker 2: it would help everyone. And as we've already learned, whenever
- 7:35Speaker 2: we cut the capital gains tax, we end up with
- 7:37Speaker 2: more revenue, not with less revenue.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, John, fun this Save America Act? How important
- 7:43Speaker 1: is this? Is it really important? Would it really get
- 7:46Speaker 1: a lot done? Would it really do anything?
- 7:49Speaker 2: Well? I think it does have to be structured in
- 7:52Speaker 2: such a way that it doesn't unduly interfere with the
- 7:55Speaker 2: rights of the states to conduct their elections. Having said that, look,
- 7:59Speaker 2: the federal government said money to the states to support
- 8:02Speaker 2: their election systems. They have a right under current law
- 8:05Speaker 2: to demand that the voter registration roles be cleaned up.
- 8:08Speaker 2: They usually aren't in blue states. In New York City,
- 8:12Speaker 2: no marketer or whatever use a voter registration is to
- 8:14Speaker 2: try to sell anyone anything because twenty percent of the
- 8:17Speaker 2: names are outdated, people who are dead, people who don't exist.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I think that we do have to clean up the
- 8:24Speaker 2: election roles. I think the federal government is probably not
- 8:28Speaker 2: going to have the Save America Vote Act in place
- 8:30Speaker 2: for this election, which is why in going forward, the
- 8:34Speaker 2: federal government has to sue the states clean up your
- 8:36Speaker 2: voter rolls or you're not going to get any federal money.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And I think that we have to. We're going to
- 8:40Speaker 2: have to go back and try for the Save America
- 8:42Speaker 2: Vote Act next session of Congress because I don't want
- 8:46Speaker 2: to get rid of the philibuster. I don't know how
- 8:47Speaker 2: you feel about this market. I think the filibuster is
- 8:51Speaker 2: a great guaranteur of minority rights and we should we
- 8:54Speaker 2: get rid of it at our peril.
- 8:56Speaker 1: No, Heyland got a minutso left Democrats so far to
- 9:01Speaker 1: the left. Is this last time this happened? You have
- 9:04Speaker 1: like a Bill Clinton rise up and lead them back
- 9:06Speaker 1: to the middle. Is that going to happen again? Will
- 9:08Speaker 1: it be a Fetterman or somebody that could do that?
- 9:11Speaker 2: Good question? The answer is how many elections do they
- 9:14Speaker 2: lose because they have the looney left and on their
- 9:18Speaker 2: ticket as candidates, and I think that's the only solution
- 9:22Speaker 2: for this. Politicians do not have ideas, they have ambitions,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and if their ambitions are thwarted by the fact that
- 9:29Speaker 2: their party has moved too far to the left, they
- 9:31Speaker 2: will as both Bill Clinton or Tony Blair when the
- 9:34Speaker 2: Labor Party lost three elections to Margaret Thatcher, they will adjust.
- 9:38Speaker 2: We have to beat them in order for them to
- 9:42Speaker 2: get common sense.
- 9:43Speaker 1: All right, Well, great stuff, John fun brilliant as always.
