- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk It Tech podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: My co-host, Tristan McGonagall, is here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Tristan?
- 0:51SPEAKER_06: I don't want to be here anymore.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: What a disappointing week as a Texas Tech Red Raider fan.
- 0:56SPEAKER_06: Steven?
- 0:59SPEAKER_06: Agreed.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: I thought there was gonna be something a little more there.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: No, but look.
- 1:05SPEAKER_05: That sucks.
- 1:06SPEAKER_05: Alright, that it sucks.
- 1:07SPEAKER_05: It sucks.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: Look, straight up, it sucked.
- 1:11SPEAKER_06: Awful.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Not good.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Um Wow.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Did I punch that?
- 1:17SPEAKER_06: Do you want to punch that?
- 1:18SPEAKER_06: Do you want to punch that?
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Is it a fun stat or is it just a stat that's gonna make me a few?
- 1:24SPEAKER_06: Three years in a row.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: We lost our seventh game three years in a row.
- 1:28SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: The curse of the seventh game.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: It used to be the curse of the non-conference.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Now it's moved to curse of the seventh game.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Last year, blew it to Arizona State.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: This year, you blew it to Cincinnati, both of which were road games.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Um listen, man, you know, since we can't play the song this week, it's very disappointing.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: We have to talk about our feelings towards the game.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: And you know I I multiple things here.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: It's so sad and disappointing.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: And you kind of saw it coming.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: You're not really surprised because of how Texas Tech has played the majority of this season, that the dam broke and that it's just we're having to deal with it now.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Having to deal with just an absolute terrible game from the offense and a subpar performance from the defense, and on the road, a team that clearly wanted to beat you.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: You talked a lot of mess in the offseason, now it's all coming back to get you.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: And then at the same time, you're six and one.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: You still have a very legitimate chance to compete for a Big 12 championship and beyond, potentially.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: But I don't know.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: It's weird to me because you see the reaction from it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: And after the Cincinnati game, everybody's just like, well, yep, Texas Tech's terrible.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: The offense is horrible, always has been, always will be.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: But you look at the week prior against Arizona State and you're like, where's that?
- 3:04SPEAKER_06: Um, I mean, yeah.
- 3:07SPEAKER_06: So I think I think a lot of people are kind of uh dancing on our grave a little bit here.
- 3:12SPEAKER_06: Maybe it's a little bit premature, some of it may be fair, some of it not, in my opinion.
- 3:16SPEAKER_06: Um, because you know, I feel like we're getting clowned because we have such such high hopes, but we're not the first high hope team to lose this season.
- 3:24SPEAKER_06: In fact, losing is going around this season.
- 3:27SPEAKER_06: It's it's a very chaotic year thus far in FBS.
- 3:31SPEAKER_06: Uh you're seeing a lot of turnover in the top 10 constantly, like just the past weekend, not the not the one we just viewed.
- 3:37SPEAKER_06: Um, it was like the most top seven teams losing in the in the AP poll ever.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_06: So I get it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_06: People still think our record or our schedule is weak.
- 3:48SPEAKER_06: I think that's starting to show where that's not totally true, or at least not as it seemed before, because you know, once you start playing the games, things change.
- 3:55SPEAKER_06: Shocker.
- 3:56SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, obviously this a lot of this sounds like cope, but I just want to make sure that we get some reality injected into this real quick.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, no, I I agree.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Um I think people were wanting Texas Tech to lose, obviously.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, it doesn't help that the border regions talks a lot of crap on social media.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: It doesn't help that Joey McGuire said a lot of things in the offseason, and uh we'll talk about that in a second because there's been a lot of back and forth on the socials this week about Cody Campbell and how Texas Tech fans should be d talking about Cody Campbell.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: A lot of divisiveness right now.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: But uh the game itself, man, it's just uh it's just a bad, bad offensive performance by all measures.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, the fact that Jacoby Williams had 12 carries this game is frustrating.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Um Will Hammond was truly bad.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: And, you know, I I've been saying this all year.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Will Hammond is going to go through bumps and bruises.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Not just because he's coming off of a torn ACL, but because he's a young quarterback.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: And you kind of have to take your licks with a young quarterback.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: And this unfortunately was a lot of licks.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Um I I think people are a little too quick to, and I am a Will Hammond believer, so this is a lot of that's gonna be coming out now.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Is he's gonna have rough games.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: You hope it's not against a bad Cincinnati team, but it was, and you hope he responds from there.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: I I don't agree with the people asking for Will Hammond to be benched.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: I truly don't agree with it.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: Because I think he's just a young quarterback goes through this type of stuff.
- 5:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I I think that's there's a lot of hate going towards Will Hammond this whole season, especially in the preseason.
- 5:59SPEAKER_06: You know, there's a lot of talk, especially from the outside, saying that, you know, we were looking to replace Will Hammond, not just from the injury standpoint, from like a player standpoint, that they would try to get a veteran quarterback that would come in and rock the house.
- 6:13SPEAKER_06: And and Will Hammond would be acting as a QB2.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: So a lot of people are kind of showing that into our face, understandably so, especially after a performance like that.
- 6:23SPEAKER_06: Um, and especially against a team like Cincinnati, where obviously that's where a lot of that drama comes from.
- 6:28SPEAKER_06: It's really frustrating because I think as soon as you start losing games, and you've already started to see with how poor the offense has performed generally in this season, is this could start becoming the biggest what if in Texas Tech history season-wise.
- 6:44SPEAKER_06: Um, because I mean the quarterback is the single most important position in all sports.
- 6:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, what with I don't even know what even comes close.
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: Is it the pitcher in baseball, the starting pitcher in baseball, but um it's the quarterback, absolutely.
- 6:57SPEAKER_06: Um and this game sucked.
- 7:00SPEAKER_06: And I know he's a young quarterback, but he's also not that young.
- 7:04SPEAKER_06: Um he's what a year, he's this is his third year in the program.
- 7:08SPEAKER_06: He was a four-star bordering on five-star recruit coming out of high school.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: And at Texas Tech, in a big Texas university, especially one that's known for prominent off-season uh off-season offenses, you kind of expect a better gunslinger than what you're seeing.
- 7:26SPEAKER_06: And I'm not saying he can't improve, but I do think that we have seen a Gwill Hammond that has taken a step back in confidence and skill, maybe not to his fault of his own, and maybe we're just looking at such a small sample size from last year.
- 7:40SPEAKER_06: But I do hope that these are just kind of wake-up calls and learning experiences rather than perhaps what you expect out of him moving forward.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that's a measured take.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: I think we're our fan base is a little too quick to try to move on from somebody.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I not a fan of Mac Lepwich.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: I don't know if a lot of people are these days um that are Texas Tech fans, but I I just I need something to start changing.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: You know, you're seven games in now.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: You need to start really understanding this offense and getting more, and you thought Arizona State was potentially a turning point.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Uh you took a step back.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: So I we were talking earlier this season about adversity, and and can this team, you know, Joey's talked about it a number of times on um, you know, you want to learn off of wins, but does the psyche actually get there with these players, right?
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: When they win a football game, are they truly going to go in with the same attitude as if they lost that football game?
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: Well, now we're gonna see it because you just lost a football game, and you're gonna have to respond to that.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: And with Texas Tech schedule, with the Big 12 bias, with everything that goes on around this sport, you need to go unfeated the rest of the way to get a chance here.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, the Big 12 kind of shat the bed this time.
- 9:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, what a pie in the face for the conference.
- 9:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you truly had like the biggest moment.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: You're riding high, BYU number two in the country.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: They blow it to UCF, we blow it to Cincinnati.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Utah's the only one left standing who got a good win against Houston in Salt Lake.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: But man, it's just like the conference goes from way up here to like way back down here.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, truly.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: And Texas Tech uh absolutely did not help that and uh was actually one of the leading causes of it.
- 9:43SPEAKER_06: So it's Ray Ormont should have made a call.
- 9:46SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Make a call, Brett.
- 9:48SPEAKER_06: Should have made a call.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Make a call.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: You should have you should have busted out the bats for Scott Frost and Scott Satterfield.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: I can't believe we lost that game.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Um that team is not very good.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, JC French, I guess, uh showed some stuff.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: He threw four touchdowns.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: Um, he also threw two interceptions this game.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Their running attack was an obvious problem.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: They've been a strong running team all year.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: Um Tab had 173 yards.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: He was averaging over 10 yards a carry, which is utterly ridiculous on our defense.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: Um, it was a really bad showing from the defense, you know, a rare bad showing.
- 10:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and you're and this is gonna this is gonna be maybe a little too fair or it's a little too soft, but I think it can allow defense to have a bad game.
- 10:35SPEAKER_06: And the only reason why I'm gonna be kind of cool on them, whatever your defense forces two turnovers and you don't get touchdowns off of either.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: What the hell is the defense supposed to do?
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And well, you gotta you gotta pick six.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: You gotta pick six.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: That was one of the targets.
- 10:50SPEAKER_06: That's okay, my bad.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: That's that's true.
- 10:52SPEAKER_06: Um but it's that was the first touchdown of the game.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's more of the point, is just like we had 24 points and seven of those were from the defense.
- 11:04SPEAKER_06: You uh didn't score a single touchdown the entire game until garbage time.
- 11:10SPEAKER_06: That's it's not a loss that is on the defense by any means.
- 11:14SPEAKER_06: 37 points is not ideal, but you were never out of the game.
- 11:19SPEAKER_06: Like defense kept you in the game.
- 11:21SPEAKER_06: And until the offense showed time and time again that they were not gonna score a touchdown, I don't blame the defense for losing some momentum against the the other team that's clearly moving the ball.
- 11:36SPEAKER_06: Um dude, whenever I saw the offense out there on the field, and I know we're kind of flip-flopping here, but that's just gonna have the episode's gonna go.
- 11:44SPEAKER_06: Um, that offense had zero zeal, zero zest for life.
- 11:50SPEAKER_06: I saw a lifeless, juiceless, no fun having offense out there.
- 11:56SPEAKER_06: Maybe that's a credit to Cincinnati's environment.
- 11:59SPEAKER_06: It's an 11 a.m.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: game.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: How crazy could it actually be?
- 12:02SPEAKER_06: And what a 40,000 stadium.
- 12:04SPEAKER_06: I'm sure it was.
- 12:05SPEAKER_06: But it's just and that I don't know, no hate towards the Cincinnati crowd.
- 12:10SPEAKER_06: That was obviously good showing, but it's just you have to be able to produce in those environments if you want to do anything.
- 12:17SPEAKER_06: Like it's like that is that is an appetizer to what is to come if you have big dreams for what you want the season to be.
- 12:25SPEAKER_06: So I guess truly we were waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- 12:30SPEAKER_06: I think we just kept getting away with it, and we were very okay with getting away with it.
- 12:33SPEAKER_06: Because I mean ultimately that matters at the end of the day is the W and the L.
- 12:36SPEAKER_06: But the way we were getting them, we were just scraping by.
- 12:39SPEAKER_06: And I I don't know how else to say it.
- 12:41SPEAKER_06: It's been on the offense every single time that it's we've just scraped but scraped by.
- 12:44SPEAKER_06: The defense has done their job every game.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and the frustrating part is I don't think there's some magic elixir that's gonna fix it.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: You know, the the magic elixir is Will Hammond getting going.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: That's really what it is.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, I don't think you do it with Tommy.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: I know a lot of people are calling for Tommy.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Um I I don't know if you've seen a lot of Tommy Castellanos at Florida State or Tommy Castellanos at Boston College, but it wasn't very good.
- 13:09SPEAKER_06: Would you be mad if they ran him out?
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: Um You know, if Will clearly doesn't have it going, I'd be okay with trying it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_06: But I don't think in this upcoming Arizona game, you think if Will is sputtering, how much time would you give him?
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: I'd give him a half.
- 13:30SPEAKER_06: A half?
- 13:31SPEAKER_06: And if they don't get a touchdown, you pull them.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: It's it's very dependent on the game flow and how things are are cooking.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Like, is he actually playing well?
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: Is maybe his receivers have dropped a few, maybe the running game isn't getting going, maybe the offensive line's playing bad, whatever the case may be.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: I don't you know this is the tough part about this because now you're in uh your back's against the wall, really, and you kind of need to do what you need to do, and you can't really wait on Will Hammond getting it going.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: Um I do think he's the I do think he's the better quarterback.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: I I do.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: I don't think Tommy Castellanos is very good, and I think he's kind of a one-trick pony.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: So I I I don't know if that's solving anything.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: I think people just want to see something different, yeah, and they don't necessarily want to trust the process.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: I'm more of a trust the process type versus a hey, let's throw a bunch of different shit at the wall and see what sticks, you know.
- 14:27SPEAKER_06: Right, but the the process hasn't really achieved its solid outcome.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Again, it worked out great a game ago.
- 14:40SPEAKER_06: I would like to remind remind you, perhaps you've already thought about this, that the defense opened up that game with their hair on fire.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Offense played fantastic in the Arizona State.
- 14:55SPEAKER_06: They played a very good game, but defense did their job of bashing Arizona's faces in, Arizona State's faces in.
- 15:03SPEAKER_06: And I think what you saw was an offense that was able to play against a completely demoralized Arizona State.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know about that because you you play both sides of the ball.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: I I do think defense kick-started the the momentum per se.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: You're also at home, you know, you kind of have that built in.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying that the defense isn't, you know, doing their job or doing the most that they can this year.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying that um you're back at home against a top 25 opponent, and hey, maybe that juices you up.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: And and again, it's all about responding, right?
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Like we haven't seen this team respond after a loss because we haven't seen a loss.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: All we've seen is, you know, scraping by, getting a couple wins, and then going on to the next week.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: And it seemed like up until Arizona State, things were getting a lot better and trending upward.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Now you hit a real bump in the road here with the Cincinnati loss, and you're trying to get back to it.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: So, you know, this team is different when it's got an edge to it.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: I feel like you just see the offensive line plays differently.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Will Hammond plays differently, and I still think that can come out this year.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: I'm not I haven't lost hope in that just because we lost at Cincinnati.
- 16:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I I I'm with you.
- 16:20SPEAKER_06: I'm kind of a torn.
- 16:22SPEAKER_06: I'm kind of stuck between two camps.
- 16:23SPEAKER_06: And I'm not saying bench Hammond, but I'm saying like I'm stuck between two camps here.
- 16:28SPEAKER_06: On one side, there's the truth like you say, the trust the process, believe in your guy, trust the developments, and you know, and I'm also from this other camp that says you're a program now that has the ability to shake things up if you need to.
- 16:51SPEAKER_06: And I think you with it with the with your new status, I don't know if you can afford not to shape things up when things are getting rattled.
- 17:00SPEAKER_06: Because like you can even look at like, what was it, the Nick Saban game, wherever he benched his uh, who was it, Jalen Hurts.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the thing is he had a he had another NFL quarterback behind him.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: I I know I'm not saying I think you're looking at it in more of a holistic standpoint of what Texas Tech is as a program and not necessarily the quarterback room.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: The quarterback room is not very good this year.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: So you're you're coming off a uh sophomore quarterback that is coming off a torn ACL that you were hoping to see more of.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: You have a fifth-year senior that's been fighting for eligibility all year, that's kind of a one-trick pony that hasn't succeeded at any other Power Four school that he's been at.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: And then you have two guys that haven't played a lot of football.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: So it it's not like the quarterback is a bag of riches that we can just try out a bunch of stuff in.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's kind of you need something to click here with one of these two guys.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm saying.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: I have a lot more faith that something's gonna click with Hammond than with Castellanos.
- 18:00SPEAKER_06: You gotta it's just like you might have some magic dust in the bag, and I just don't know if you want to sit there and spin your wheels more and more and more.
- 18:09SPEAKER_06: I I'm not saying bench Will Hammond.
- 18:12SPEAKER_06: I think I'm with you of like if he gets out there and you don't see anything from him for a half.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 18:19SPEAKER_06: You gotta, you've gotta make a change.
- 18:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you've got to.
- 18:22SPEAKER_06: And I it's I guess I guess what I was looking at, I get the my original point I was looking for was like my old the old Texas Tech fan of me just like wants to have believe in that underdog and say, look, he's gonna figure it out because he's our guy.
- 18:33SPEAKER_06: Like we used to be like such an R guy program.
- 18:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think we're not anymore, but we were an R guy, like oh, he's he's he picked us, we pick him kind of thing.
- 18:40SPEAKER_06: We we don't have to be that way anymore.
- 18:42SPEAKER_06: Like, I want to win football games, I want to win a lot of them, I want to win all of them.
- 18:47SPEAKER_06: And as people keep criticizing Texas Tech for, it's we should be winning every single game we play.
- 18:53SPEAKER_06: And I don't think that's holistically true at all.
- 18:57SPEAKER_06: Like, it's there's another team that you're you're facing up against, and even if they don't technically have the same amount of talent, that's not how this always plays out at the end of the day.
- 19:05SPEAKER_06: And that's how I'm hoping the Cincinnati thing goes.
- 19:08SPEAKER_06: But my I know I'm I know we are not Nick Saban's peak Alabama.
- 19:12SPEAKER_06: I'm just saying that you do have the ability to put talented players on the football field now.
- 19:17SPEAKER_06: Like your second and third string, I'm unless you got Patrick Mahomes back there.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: Second string, like we did.
- 19:23SPEAKER_06: Um, but it's it's just it's a different team now, a different program was my point.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: It's it's a different program, but it's not a different quarterback room this year.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: It just isn't.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't go ahead.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: No, it's gonna say do you do you think with so much of these offensive frustrations staying in the quarterback room right now, how much of this offseason was dedicated to building the Brendan Sworesby playbook?
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, I think all of it was.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: They were full on with Soresby, and that's why this was so devastating because you not only spent the entire offseason basically thinking this guy was gonna be your guy, and then you had to switch last minute to a quarterback that we were hoping would sit the entire year and rehab and get back to himself, you now had to kind of just go full send on on Will Hammond.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, he clearly not just the youth part of this, but the injury recovery and everything that's going with it, it's it's affected him.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: And you hope that something clicks with him.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: That I just don't like you're you're you use the Alabama example, and I understand where you're coming from with that.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Tommy Castellanos is not to a tongue of Iloa.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: He's not.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Like, if if we all have in our minds, you know, the backup quarterback is the best thing in the world, right?
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: The backup quarterback, the backup whoever, whoever's not performing, we we think that the backup is going to automatically fix all of our issues.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: That's not the case, and I can tell you with a lot of confidence that I don't think Tommy Castellanos is gonna change much.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think this offense is struggling all around right now.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: And the receivers that we have are not getting open.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: The uh we're not using our running backs enough.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Our offensive line has been hit or miss, and then you have a quarterback who's kind of shown a little bit of the ips at times.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: So it's it you just need the mental part of it to get there with Will Hammond, and you're a much different football team.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: Um, that's that was a good point about the receivers, you know, how much of this was on the receivers, but I do think it was mostly because of Will having a really bad game.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 21:28SPEAKER_06: Um so as stands after as things stand right now, do you see a big shake up in the coaching staff in the offseason?
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, with things how things are going right now, if this continues, you can't keep Mack Lefwitch.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: You can't.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: There's no way.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's just he's consistently outside of Arizona State underperformed.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: I I don't know how you can look at this offense, look at how kind of convoluted it is game to game.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: You don't really know what you're gonna get you don't really trust this offense to get a yard on a third and short you don't really trust this offense to make the big play when they need to that's him you know and Joey Joey's Joey Joey gives his OC the reins and says as he should as he should as he and he's not that guy like Joey's a defensive minded dude he can provide a little more insight there from a X is an O standpoint but realistically he's the guy who motivates and gets the team ready to play each and every week the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator run the ship at Texas Tech from an X is an O standpoint.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: Mac Lefwich has done a bad job.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Yes plain and simple and you have the position coaches to your point of what Texas Tech is now you can go get a better OC.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah you can go find somebody different and somebody that's gonna come in and make a change immediately and be better than what we've seen.
- 22:54SPEAKER_06: So yeah if this continues absolutely but again what if we go against Arizona and we kick their ass right what if we go what if it's 50 to 15 final score are we automatically like switching our gears again like what if the yeah what if this is a repeat of last season where the you know the the one road loss is it and you still make it to Arlington and win it all the last year's team was just so so much better.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: I think it felt way better about the Arizona State loss like truly um I think Arizona State was a better team last year than the Cincinnati team is yep um you were facing a death threat of a quarterback against Arizona State last year with uh Sam Levitt that was a weird term of phrase death threat death threat it was a death threat um but and you were without your starting quarterback in that game um there's no excuse besides missing Cam Dickey and sure maybe you're missing Cam but I don't think Cam Dickey's winning that game um with him in it so well they wouldn't give him enough carries anyway exactly exactly so I I just think we're all incredibly frustrated it's just it seems unacceptable I think losing is one thing I do and maybe this is the most cliche thing about of all time with the loss but to lose like that it just felt like we were taking it lying down the whole time like we never got back on our feet to swing back it felt like you know we we got lucky with a few turnovers and the pick six maybe that was like oh maybe this is well we started the beginning in the second half was good and we thought there was some momentum going and then still no touchdowns yeah I know the defense kind of sputtered though gave up some touchdowns from Cincinnati uh and and then the offense just couldn't get anything going so it's yeah it's a mess against the Cincinnati defense too which is not good and exactly exactly West Virginia ran all over them West Virginia's got a great offense don't get me wrong but like all teams have been lining it up like Miami of Ohio had no issue scoring on Cincinnati but you TechS filled out with four and five stars and and and high to highly touted three star transfers you can't get it done like it's just again it comes back to the offense we don't know if it's a leadership thing whether that leadership is a coach or a quarterback I lean more towards the coach at this point just because you know he's the one that's getting paid a lot of money to do this.
- 25:17SPEAKER_06: And the it's just the results aren't there dude they're not there.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah result I mean yeah this result was not there for sure.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: And we'll see how they respond.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: I I have I have some faith that this team can turn some things around and play like we did against Arizona State.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: I I think going back home is going to help you a lot.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: Arizona's defense not much to go off of their offense is obviously very skilled um you know we'll just have to see it's uh you just don't know what Texas deck you're gonna get week in and week out and I feel like that's just gonna be the rest of the season.
- 25:51SPEAKER_06: College game day or big noon kick golf should be going 11 Texas this weekend.
- 25:55SPEAKER_06: And no chance.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: You shot the bed so no I didn't I know I'm not saying like I'm not saying I'm not blaming them.
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: I'm saying you shat the bed and I mean those games those moments are important dude like getting your school on the big networks is good for branding it's good for recruiting and just whenever you blow it like that against a team that's not as good as you finally lost to a G6 team by the way that was the first time we've lost to the new G6 additions to the Big 12 disappointing we owned them all oh well so it's it's just uh I hope we turn it around man um I I think I just I don't have any faith in this offense dude um I think defense is gonna turn it on I have some faith at home it's not out of Arizona but I have some faith at home that the offense can turn it on against Arizona.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: But this is this is back against the wall this is look at you look yourself in the mirror type situation right now for Texas Tech.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: And I I understand not having a lot of motivation or not having a lot of faith that this Texas Tech offense is going to figure it out.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: We watched seven games of it and we've had one good one.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: You know I get it but I'm gonna give it more time and I I do think it's just a just gonna be a week week by week deal.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: Hey who are we getting today right right um so yeah it's I I I I think you know a bit a win would go a long way here um but I I do think we're gonna win like I just I'm just not as confident as we normally are yeah I mean it I I don't really have a I don't really have a take per se I like I I wish I knew what to expect out of this football team.
- 27:48unknown: Right.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: But if Will Heyman goes and throws three first half interceptions or if he throws three first half touchdowns I'm honestly I'm not really surprised either way.
- 27:57SPEAKER_06: Um I I I don't think we need to cover what happened around Big 12 besides pooping the bed too much here.
- 28:06SPEAKER_06: Oh I mean Dave Randa got fired uh if you if you've been living on the rock three three three years too late five years too late for sure dude it's been a long way overdue so you could expect Jeff trailer or GJ Kinney I think over there.
- 28:21SPEAKER_06: So I would like to white knife for a second though.
- 28:24SPEAKER_06: I would like to come to the defense of our very wealthy head coach who gets paid a lot of money to do what he does to take criticisms for what he does.
- 28:38SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 28:39SPEAKER_06: He's been getting a lot of shit like people have been saying that he's a a bad coach and that he doesn't know what he's doing.
- 28:46SPEAKER_06: He's in over his head blah blah blah he's a high school coach I think that is the most reactionary bullshit out there.
- 28:54SPEAKER_06: Like I know Twitter is not a good place to get even keeled takes but I've been seeing this take so often that like oh I don't think Joe McGuire's actually a good coach.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: The dude's win-loss ratio is so insanely lopsided to wins that it's an absurd statistic.
- 29:14SPEAKER_06: It's what like 58 to 18 or something like all the time so it might not be that quite that high as what's it's it's it's it's like 41 and something.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: I don't know it's it's it's very good.
- 29:30SPEAKER_06: It's very very good.
- 29:31SPEAKER_06: And he hasn't lost at home in what two two in two seasons including this one I mean so and he won a Big 12 championship and took us to the playoff um I I just think it's completely absurd to be acting like this guy is not the man for Texas tech.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: We have become so spoiled with what he has given us along with the along with the support a lot of boosters don't get me wrong um but it's just I think it's so asinine that there are so many voices out there tearing down Joey Well yeah because it's easy right you you if we win it's because we have money if we lose it's because Joey Maguire's a bad coach and it's not I people think it's just so cut and dry.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: You know Joey Maguire is a great coach.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: He's clearly he has the all the record to show it I think we're 18 and 3 in the last you know 21 or so games.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Have a Big 12 championship Joey already is not going to get enough praise and it it's just based upon the circumstances like it's so easy for opposing fan bases to just be like tech has money and that's why they win.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: And it's just not true first and foremost there's a lot of teams that have a lot of money that don't win a lot of teams in college football a lot of teams in the Big 12 that have money that don't necessarily get the results that they should.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: What up what up TCU um Florida State You know there's plenty plenty of big programs right now look just north Austin Texas I know they got a good win against uh old miss there but you know they played two in a row there and they are paying$50 million for their roster this year.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: So I know they play SEC schedule they lost to two unranked teams so I don't want to hear it.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah I mean it's it's just the easiest thing in the world and you're not gonna really get a clear you know statistical pushback other than the wins and then you're just gonna say oh well that's because you have money.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: So you know there's no winning instead of yeah there's no winning so there's no use in arguing it per se you know um I don't know I I think Joe is doing a great job.
- 31:58SPEAKER_06: Absolutely and just just to just to you know to give a method to the haters here what the the thing is is we have the wrong conference patch on the jersey and we weren't good in the 70s.
- 32:11SPEAKER_06: Like that's that is that is the math you are not a team that's supposed to be good and you're in the Big 12.
- 32:18SPEAKER_06: Like that is that is the argument through and through that is where the math ends in their heads that is one of the most infuriating things about this sport is if you weren't good before you were born like you don't matter like it's it's the dumbest logic of all time.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah yeah it yeah and it's it's not even worth the time honestly um the other high profile Texas Tech figure that's been getting some heat this week is uh uh the guy with his name on the field Cody Campbell who in the offseason um you know said some stuff about Cincinnati was uh clearly upset because he outright said that they had something to do with Brendan Soresby and all that nonsense uh said we're gonna put up 40 on you in the fourth quarter against Cincinnati and they almost put up 40 on us in a winning effort and when you have a um high profile donor regent he's um he has a multitude of titles um that is opinionated and that has a voice not only with Texas Tech but it seems like the entirety of college sports with his political figure and political status and you know obviously being in with the with the Trump campaign and everything like that it's you're gonna you're gonna have to just take the licks with it.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: Like you know we can all we can we're all very happy with where Texas Tech football is now versus where it was five years ago ten years ago.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: We're all thrilled about that we're all we're all loving that Cody Campbell contributes financially as much as he does.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's a gift because not everybody has it.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Not everybody has a billionaire oil tycoon that's willing to just commit a lot of funds to making this program compete.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: We understand that full stop yep you you just gotta take the licks though because he's an opinionated guy and he's gonna spout off and it some are some are arguing that that's not what he should be doing.
- 34:36SPEAKER_06: I tend to agree with that but hey we just kind of have to deal with it you know because you'd rather have the money than not have the money but again I do think he's bullying a little bit yeah with what he's what he's doing on social media and I don't agree with it and I don't really appreciate it to be honest but again what are we gonna do you know it's it's really funny I think in the offseason you saw a man that was incredibly frustrated I think you saw a man who was lit up about his investments in the program and of course his coup investment in a very very high profile and important player.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: I think you saw a guy that was fired up about that and I think that's where you got the fiery tweets from they they took out they took out a billboard in Times Square to announce that Brendan would be committed to Texas Tech.
- 35:29SPEAKER_06: And again I mean it it it kind of we've been saying this I've been saying this at least where it's just this is going to be the season of what ifs if things I mean it's I think no matter what it's gonna be a season of no of what ifs I do not think we're winning a national championship this year.
- 35:43SPEAKER_06: No and that's where the what if comes in.
- 35:45SPEAKER_06: I'm not saying it's automatic but I kind of feel better about our chances with Brendan Soresby winning a national championship and I'm not saying that's the goal every single year anymore.
- 35:54SPEAKER_06: I'm I'm like I I mean at this point I mean but you're gonna start believing you want to eventually right and that would have been a big step forward if you went and did exactly what he did last year and just blow through your schedule again you know so I think that's where a lot of a lot of the angst comes from and I'm I'm with you I think whenever you get out there and you open that fire hose and just start I don't think he said anything that was completely out of line like he never said anything that was absolutely the the 973 the double T thing was uncalled for that was a little uncool.
- 36:29SPEAKER_06: I think he was trying to say something tongue in cheek like I don't think he was literally calling for the football team not to talk to him anymore.
- 36:37SPEAKER_06: I think he was like I think it was kind of uh he's responding to some people saying that exact thing so I I guess as I haven't keep kept up with enough enough so I might be talking out my ass on that then um but I'm I'm with you I think I think wherever you you open that fire hose and you start spraying you gotta expect to hit you right back in the face if it you know if it's not gonna go your way.
- 36:57SPEAKER_06: So I I'm I'm in the camp of look you know he's he's his own man he's got his own Twitter and he he gives a lot to the program I think he has awarded himself to be able to say things every once in a while absolutely um but it's and that might sound like a simp I might sound like a simp with that but it's just like of course you kind of wanted to you know act act with some class and decency whenever you can I mean I mean you think so think about Cody Campbell four years ago.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: Still committing to the program he wasn't as involved on social media he wasn't spouting off things and then when we started winning obviously he got a little you know high as we all did and started talking about it.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: So yeah from the per from the personality standpoint I think we all wish that we had a billionaire donor that that lurked in the shadows we all wish you know because there's no real blowback from that there's you're not gonna get you know clowned on Twitter after a loss to Cincinnati as much as you would have if Cody Campbell didn't say a multitude of things right and he does have a different level of responsibility with his status.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah he does he does he does versus versus you or me saying some dumb shit about Tommy Castellanos you know if he says some dumb shit about Tommy Castellanos people are going to pay attention to what he says.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: They're gonna pay attention to what you and I say or or any burner on Texas Tech Twitter.
- 38:29SPEAKER_06: But so yeah you hope that that guy understands that and you hope that that guy takes that into account before just emotionally tweeting something about going up by 40 on Cincinnati and giving that team a ton of motivation to go beat Texas Tech I I I I don't know if I fully agree with wanting the guy in the shadows I think it's kind of cool for him to be as involved and in front of the program as he is um I again I this is not like just defending full fledged simping for his his belligerent tweets but I I I I think it's I think it's it was really fun there was it was really fun for a while that people forget whenever he was tweeting at people like whenever he was saying like suit up let's Oklahoma drill in the parking lot that that was funny.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: That was good stuff that's funny that's talking that's talking that's being playful that's exactly that's not saying we're going most that's not giving motivation to other teams though.
- 39:28SPEAKER_06: Right I know he was doing that most of the time I just think this Brendan Soresby thing really was a bee in his bonnet and it really really lit him up and he I think he was really pushing hard to get him to play until just the pressure mounted to and it broke him like or broke the program I should say and it's just I I'm of the I think he'll cool off I don't think he's gonna be this fiery all the time but I I don't think he needs to sit back in a chair and let everything happen.
- 39:55SPEAKER_06: I think I think it's generally pretty fun to have him pretty involved with the program.
- 39:59SPEAKER_06: I totally get people disagreeing with that.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah I mean I think maybe I'm just talking for me personally and not talking for the entire fan base because clearly there's a lot of Cody Campbell defenders I do think a lot of them are are being a little simpish uh of just like hey he gives a lot of money praise him you know put him on this pedestal which I again really appreciate the financial backing that he does I know that he does that out of what he wants you know and and he and I know that Texas Tech means a lot to him.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: So you know I I don't think there's any like disingenuous nature to what Cody Campbell's doing but yeah I do I prefer a donor Batman.
- 40:38SPEAKER_06: That's what I want you you kind of wish they were all the wombles or the cell exactly thing I was just about to say look at what Dusty Womble does.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: That man contributes to that basketball program tenfold he is involved in everything from NIL to behind the scenes meetings to Grant McCastan what he does he talks with Kirby Hokette all the time but he's not spouting off on Twitter you know and we're not getting clowned for Texas Tech basketball right now.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: We are gonna get clowned for Texas Tech football and Cody Campbell's a big reason why but he's also the reason that we're in this position in the first place.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: So it's a it's a 100% you know it's a back and forth and yes I do I agree I wish he would shut up me personally I do I wish he would shut up but I also don't mind it.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: You kind of gotta just take your licks that's my mindset.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: I I think I I'm I'm grateful that none of it has been like just completely out of balance like I mean except I mean the the the telling you telling people not to talk to the sports reporters that was messed up because that's exactly that's exactly what TCU did at the beginning of this season.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: And Cody Campbell had something to say about that.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: He tweeted hey Fort Worth Star Telegram you can always come over to Texas Tech and cover us if you want to so he did mouth off at that and now he's doing the exact same thing with 97.3 because of one producer yeah that had an opinion that said something on Twitter.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: No that producer has the right just like Cody Campbell has the right to speak his mind and to say what he wants that doesn't mean you completely stop all Texas Tech communication with that radio station.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: That's ridiculous that's such a that's a weak mindset.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: That's a butthurt and a weak mindset.
- 42:17SPEAKER_02: So that pissed me off everything else is just kind of whatever.
- 42:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah exactly it doesn't it doesn't even bother me like truly like it that's the that was the only one I was like all right maybe you need to cool it other than that I was like yeah he's a big wig dude he's a big oil tycoon this is what they do like in the back of my brain you know it's just it's ultimately like again I'm grateful that he's within the I'm grateful he's involved in the program.
- 42:39SPEAKER_06: I don't hate him being a face of the program at all uh generally speaking and so especially since he's a former player and everything that's cool.
- 42:46SPEAKER_06: So and we're probably his son's probably gonna come and play here too.
- 42:49SPEAKER_06: So it's just it it's I I totally get people's frustrations especially with the you know the political alliances coming in that's gonna make different feelings start to fold in of course um but I mean ultimately it's just like again he's his own man at the end of the day you can't control him he's not a robot no and he's allowed to do whatever you know he can he's allowed to do whatever and say whatever he wants but that doesn't also mean I need to like it necessarily you know or that anybody needs to like it or dislike it.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: It is what it is.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: So that's what I have to say about that.
- 43:21SPEAKER_06: I would still like to have a beer with him.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: That sounds fun sure I would have a beer with him.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: He does seem like he would be a good time.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Absolutely Cody invite us to the suite even though I just told you to shut up invite us to the suite you can tell yeah you can tell us to shut up all you want if it can come to your suite and we can come to your sweet drink just you can turn around and say shut up yeah that's cool.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: I'll be like yep I agree yes sir I'm gonna eat this other steak I'm gonna go eat the prime rib that you had the back shipped in from Las Brisas.
- 43:55SPEAKER_06: Um get another free beer
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Uh do you have anything else on this this this week of disappointment for Texas Tech?
- 44:06SPEAKER_06: Steven, the guns are up.
- 44:10SPEAKER_06: Life is still so good.
- 44:12SPEAKER_06: And I tell my wife this every time we kind of come close to a loss.
- 44:17SPEAKER_06: And now, of course, a loss.
- 44:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 44:20SPEAKER_06: Is as a Texas Tech fan, we've experienced an immense amount of pain.
- 44:26SPEAKER_06: We witnessed the worst stretch in program history a decade ago.
- 44:31SPEAKER_06: And we were one of the single worst performing Big 12 teams and one of the worst performing P5 teams out there, like win-loss wise.
- 44:40SPEAKER_06: Um sure you had some fun times, but nothing was even close to as much fun as we are having now.
- 44:48SPEAKER_06: And I want to remind everybody that.
- 45:10SPEAKER_06: We play the song.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: You know, I missed that song.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: We haven't had it for one week and I already miss it.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: But hopefully we're we're getting that after in Arizona State.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: Or I'm sorry, just Arizona.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: Let's sweep the state of Arizona.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Tucson, not Tempe.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: Tucson, not Tempe.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: There's a C in front of the S.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: Do you know that?
- 45:30SPEAKER_06: It's ridiculous spelling.
- 45:31SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: Or maybe it's S in front of C.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: It's spelled whatever way, whatever way you think it's spelled, it's the opposite.
- 45:39SPEAKER_06: Steven?
- 45:41SPEAKER_06: I think Tucson is higher up on my if I was gonna go to a Way Big 12 game.
- 45:47SPEAKER_06: I think Tucson would be fun.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: Boulder?
- 45:51SPEAKER_06: Boulder, yeah.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: Provo Salt Lake.
- 45:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah, those are really those are great ones.
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: West Virginia?
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: West Virginia.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Loki very fun.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: Very fun.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: I'd been to Morgantown.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: Still Water would be fun.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Stillwater would be fun.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: Um I think I'd put all those above a fun to build up.
- 46:10SPEAKER_06: I think I would ultimately as well, yeah.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: I'd be I mean I'd be happy to go to Tucson.
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: I'd I'm not against it.
- 46:15SPEAKER_06: I think it's in the upper.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Tempe is just basically a suburb of Phoenix.
- 46:20SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 46:20SPEAKER_06: That's why I'm I'm not so in on I'm sure it'd be fun.
- 46:23SPEAKER_06: Don't get me wrong, but uh it's I think Tucson would be preferable.
- 46:26SPEAKER_06: I think it's more.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: I can tell you one thing.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll exclude Texas out of this because we've been to the Texas City.
- 46:33SPEAKER_02: Orlando's last.
- 46:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, or dead last.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: Orlando's last.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Cincinnati's probably close to last.
- 46:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, Cincinnati's right before that.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: I'd rather go to I'd I'd way rather go to Ames.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: Oh or Manhattan than Cincinnati or Orlando.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Glad we glad we established that.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: We'll have to make a list in the office.
- 46:58SPEAKER_06: We'll probably have the same list.
- 46:59SPEAKER_06: That would be a fun list, but it'd probably be exactly the same.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: We're too similar, you and I.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: Um all right, man.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: You got anything else?
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: You you got anything just on your mind that you want to talk about?
- 47:12SPEAKER_06: No, dude.
- 47:12SPEAKER_06: You want to you want to treat this as a therapy session?
- 47:15SPEAKER_06: Is that what you're looking for?
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: No, not really.
- 47:17SPEAKER_06: Is that my feelings?
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: No, I'm good.
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: I'm good.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: I talked about my Texas Tech feelings.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: My personal feelings off the mic.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: We'll talk about those another time.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Um alright.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: Let's make a short and sweet episode then.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: What do you say, bud?
- 47:35SPEAKER_06: Let's do it.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: Alright, song of the week.
- 47:38SPEAKER_06: Song of the week, Steven.
- 47:39SPEAKER_06: This is a very emotional time.
- 47:42SPEAKER_06: So it calls for a very emotional song.
- 47:45SPEAKER_06: And I'm going to go with a song, a first album for this artist.
- 47:51SPEAKER_06: The very first album, her very first hit.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Is it is it an only album sort of situation?
- 47:57SPEAKER_06: No.
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:58SPEAKER_02: So the multiple.
- 48:00SPEAKER_06: Pop sensor.
- 48:01SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 48:01SPEAKER_06: But I'm saying this is her first one ever.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking you're lying right now.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: I don't think this is a pop sensation.
- 48:08SPEAKER_06: No, I just snorted.
- 48:10SPEAKER_06: Um, she she is, I swear to you.
- 48:12SPEAKER_06: She is a pop sensation.
- 48:14SPEAKER_06: And this song, this album, is of the namesake of another woman, though.
- 48:19SPEAKER_06: The album is the Hannah Montana movie.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: But the artist is Miley Cyrus.
- 48:27SPEAKER_06: And the song here is all about facing adversity and getting over that mountain.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: That mountain, that's a good one.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Mountain.
- 48:36SPEAKER_06: It's not about it's not about the destination.
- 48:39SPEAKER_06: It's about the climb.
- 48:41SPEAKER_06: And I'm gonna go with the climb by Miley Cyrus.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: It's always gonna be another mountain.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Always gonna make a moon.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: Always gonna be an update of battle.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Sometimes a battle.
- 49:00SPEAKER_06: It's cool with Hannah Montana to feature her on that album.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, have we figured out?
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: We haven't figured out who Hannah Montana is.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: She's just her own.
- 49:12SPEAKER_06: She definitely, I bet she has like a family and everything now.
- 49:15SPEAKER_06: Like she definitely kind of stepped off when it was time.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: I've always thought her hair.
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: I always thought the hair was fake.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: She's looking at it.
- 49:24unknown: I don't know.
- 49:25SPEAKER_06: Why?
- 49:25SPEAKER_06: It's like her thing, dude.
- 49:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Blonde, blonde sensation.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: Hannah Montana.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: So this this isn't Hannah Montana, though.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: This is Miley Cyrus, who they look similar.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Some have called them sisters.
- 49:39SPEAKER_06: I guess, dude.
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: Great song of the week.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: The climb.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: It's um I mean, it's a motivator.
- 49:51SPEAKER_06: That's what I'm saying here.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: It's a motivator.
- 49:53SPEAKER_06: I think Joey Maguire needs to play some damn music and it's the climb.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: I think that's a great that's a great song of the week.
- 49:59SPEAKER_06: I need Sheil Wood to do this, play this as he's screaming.
- 50:03SPEAKER_02: As he's flexing on the sideline.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_02: Fantastic song of the week.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know how I can follow that up.
- 50:11SPEAKER_06: You can't.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: I can't, but I will.
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: My song of the week.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Because I remember the Arizona State game.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: I remember when we played well.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: I know it seems like a millennia ago that Texas Tech Football has played a good football game, but we just did it a week and a half ago.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: So some would say that I have a memory.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: My song of the week.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: Joe Nichols.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: Man with a memory.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: It's beautiful.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: And I just want to bask in how I felt after the Arizona State game.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: Because that was a good memory.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: That was a good, beautiful memory.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: I was listening to podcasts.
- 51:02SPEAKER_02: I was watching YouTube highlights.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: I was feeling good about the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: And um I just want to get back into that state.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: So, song of the week, man with a memory, Joe Nichols.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: And the love doesn't last.
- 51:22SPEAKER_05: You get a man with a memory, a wall with a memory.

- 52:16SPEAKER_02: We can't even get the parents to listen.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Unbelievable.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: Well, I think that'll do it for this short and sweet.
