- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31We are talking today about being mad at yourself for getting
- 0:34caught up in something that you knew better.
- 0:38And I just went through this with my son and I'm trying to
- 0:41explain this to him. And I thought, what a great
- 0:43lesson for me to talk to everybody about.
- 0:46So he put something up for sale on Facebook and somehow, oh, it
- 0:51turned out that somebody responded and was trying to take
- 0:54him for a scam. And he's like, how can they scam
- 0:57me if they're buying it and I'm selling it?
- 1:00And it was this whole convoluted thing.
- 1:03Thank goodness he had the, you know, the, the wherewithal to
- 1:09get us involved and say, Hey, is this right?
- 1:12And by him doing that, we recognize that.
- 1:15Oh my goodness, you know, it's a scam.
- 1:18Actually, my husband was the one that recognized it was a scam.
- 1:22And almost immediately, just by the language they were using and
- 1:26how, oh, we're going to transfer you money and you have to give
- 1:31us a link and then you have to give us more money and the bank
- 1:34is saying this and that and then they need another $400.00.
- 1:37It's a minimum account. They come up with this
- 1:39completely convoluted story. And unfortunately some people
- 1:43believe those convoluted stories.
- 1:45But in any event, being mad at yourself for this and having
- 1:49shame around it is not something to take on because it happens to
- 1:55the best of us. I've had people who are
- 1:56extremely intelligent that I work with, that have gotten
- 2:00involved with things because they are very good at being
- 2:04manipulative and they manipulate the situation.
- 2:08They manipulate. They're very manipulative and it
- 2:11is incredibly important to recognize that the most
- 2:16important thing you can do for yourself is to not get mad at
- 2:20yourself for having that be the case.
- 2:23It's more about saying, I'm so grateful that I didn't get
- 2:27caught up in it all the way that I didn't go through the final
- 2:31analysis. I stopped myself along the way.
- 2:34Now, in general, we end up being manipulated all day, every day.
- 2:39We don't think we are, but we are because every ad we see,
- 2:42everything that we are responding to, someone is trying
- 2:45to push us and manipulate us into buying their products.
- 2:49You know, doing something we don't want to do and it's our
- 2:53job to figure out if something aligns with us and are we
- 2:56willing to do something or not do something.
- 2:58Can't stress this enough. We are always on the lookout for
- 3:02those things. Must be part of our normal
- 3:06everyday life. I can tell you that every single
- 3:12thing that comes across my social media or comes through my
- 3:15e-mail, I look at it and I'm like, oh, they're trying to
- 3:17manipulate me into something again.
- 3:19They're trying to get me to buy something.
- 3:20They're trying to get me to pay attention to something.
- 3:23It goes on and on and on. And I know that.
- 3:26I know that. But I am in control of where my
- 3:29focus goes. And this is what we have to know
- 3:32about ourselves. So it's not, it's not a bad
- 3:35thing to be aware and say, hey, you know what?
- 3:37I'm not going to let myself get caught up in this.
- 3:39I'm not going to push put myself in the position of allowing
- 3:43myself to be unaware. It's you can't say you're not
- 3:48going to allow yourself to be manipulated because it happens
- 3:51all the time. I mean, I get manipulated into
- 3:52buying certain things at the grocery store because they give
- 3:54me samples. I mean, Costco has that down,
- 3:57don't they? You walk in, you have no
- 3:58intention of buying a certain cracker, but because they're
- 4:01sampling it and because you're hungry, you walk by the sample
- 4:04cart and before you know it, your mouth is eating a cracker
- 4:07with something on it that you didn't even want when you went
- 4:10in. And then all of a sudden it's in
- 4:12your cart because the woman that's selling it or the man
- 4:14that's selling it is right there selling it on her little table.
- 4:18And she says, oh, they're right here if you want to take one.
- 4:20And before you know it, guess what?
- 4:21You're taking one. And then boom, they're in your
- 4:24cart and there you are with something and you're taking it
- 4:28home. And you're like, I don't even
- 4:30know why I bought this. I don't even know why this is
- 4:32part of my, my shopping experience today, but they've
- 4:36got it down. And guess what?
- 4:38My friends, we were manipulated. I've been manipulated into
- 4:41buying their pimento cheese multiple times because of that.
- 4:45I've been manipulated into buying so many little trinkets
- 4:48that they have there because of that one thing.
- 4:52So don't feel bad, just recognize that's OK.
- 4:55It's your choice and like everything else, it's all about
- 5:00that one thing, making it aware. I'm going to be aware of when
- 5:04I'm being manipulated and I'm going to say, Yep, I'm being
- 5:06manipulated and I know it and it's OK.
- 5:09I'm OK with it right now. Don't beat yourself up for it.
- 5:12Be kind and recognize it and hopefully, hopefully you're
- 5:17going to be able to see it. And once you're aware, you won't
- 5:20be annoyed with yourself. So take that to heart and I hope
- 5:24you guys have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:27Bye.
