- 0:00Genesis chapter 21. Let us pray.
- 0:05Our God, our King, our Lord, our everything.
- 0:09Hallowed be thy name, may your name be kept.
- 0:11Holy Father, your Kingdom come, God, not our own, not our own
- 0:16Kingdom built up with our own hands.
- 0:18Father your Kingdom, Lord, we desire to be a Kingdom of
- 0:23priests. Lord, I pray that you'll
- 0:26continue to make us more like Jesus Christ every day.
- 0:30Lord, thank you that even the least in the Kingdom God is
- 0:34greater than those born of woman.
- 0:36So Lord, we step into the bridal identity.
- 0:39Lord, your will be done. Father, not our own, God, not
- 0:43our selfish will, God not using you, Father, for our own selfish
- 0:49advantage. God, but your will, Father, not
- 0:52our own. Lord, we pray that we can
- 0:55succumb. God, that we can operate within
- 0:59the yielding, within the surrender, Father, of your
- 1:02perfect and pleasing will for our lives.
- 1:04Keep us, God, from sexual immorality.
- 1:08God, keep us from vanity and pride.
- 1:11Lord, I pray. Lord, I pray for daily bread
- 1:15today. God, I pray you'll continue to
- 1:18feed us the manna. God, continue to feed us the
- 1:21quail. God, continue to feed us.
- 1:25Lord, your flesh. God, as we break the bread,
- 1:28Lord, I pray we can drink freely.
- 1:32Lord of the living water, I pray that it'll gush from the rock.
- 1:36God, help us not to live in a fence.
- 1:39Lord, I pray, Lord, I pray for forgiveness for all the times
- 1:44that we've fallen short, all the times that we've got it wrong,
- 1:47all the times that we've leaned the ladder on the wrong house.
- 1:50God, I pray that we'll be a forgiving people.
- 1:53God forgiving 70 * 7 infinitely, our brothers and sisters in
- 1:57Christ. Lord, I pray against the evil 1
- 2:00the schemes of the enemy, the fiery darts.
- 2:03God, I pray against the prowling lion.
- 2:05God, I pray that you will form a hedge of protection around us.
- 2:08Help us, Lord, to walk on coals and not be burned, to be in the
- 2:13fire with you, Lord, and to not even smell like the smoke, God.
- 2:18To not let the waves and the waters overtake us, Lord.
- 2:21But you grab our hand, Lord, and you lead us by still waters,
- 2:26Your rod, your staff, it comforts us, Lord.
- 2:30We know that you're near and you're leading us on to greater
- 2:34pastures. Father, thank you, God, I pray
- 2:38that your Kingdom and your will and your power and your glory
- 2:41will be on full display today for all of creation to see and
- 2:45to marvel at God. And it's in Jesus Christ, holy
- 2:48and precious and powerful name that I pray.
- 2:51Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 3:00And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did to
- 3:04Sarah as He had spoken. You see the promises of God
- 3:09being manifested and fleshed out.
- 3:11Friends, even in the disbelief, even in the actions of
- 3:17unfaithfulness, God's promises prevail because He's just that
- 3:22good. Verse 2 For Sarah conceived and
- 3:26bore Abraham a son in his old age at the set time which God
- 3:31had spoken to him. God is a God who lives up to His
- 3:34promises. When God says it, we believe it,
- 3:39and that settles it. It's too bad that we do not
- 3:42operate within that conviction most of the time.
- 3:46God says it within His word. And the moment we close the
- 3:50book, we forget the promises of God and operate within our own
- 3:54reasoning and intellect and emotions and feelings, instead
- 3:57of waiting upon the promises of God to actually happen.
- 4:02Verse 3. And Abraham called the name of
- 4:05his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore to him.
- 4:09Isaac, the child of laughter. He's turned the morning into
- 4:14joy, friends, for an Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being
- 4:21eight days old and as God had commanded him.
- 4:25So we know here from medical advancements in the medical
- 4:30community that the blood coagulates perfectly on the 8th
- 4:33day and it would be the best. And God knows exactly how to
- 4:41give advice that all matches up that we catch up with as time
- 4:45goes on. And that's exactly what this
- 4:48entire Bible from Genesis 2 Revelation is.
- 4:52It's man trying to catch up with God's mind in the way that he
- 4:57operates. Five, And Abraham was 100 years
- 5:05old when his son Isaac was born to him.
- 5:09Six. And Sarah said, God has made me
- 5:12to laugh so that all that here will laugh with me.
- 5:17This is a very jovial time for Sarah and Abraham.
- 5:24This was a miraculous birth. She had already gone through all
- 5:28of the menopause changes. It was completely unnatural for
- 5:36the a woman of her age to be able to have a child and it is
- 5:41ridiculous. And here she is saying share in
- 5:47the ridiculous notion of God. He is unlimited, and He can do
- 5:54anything that He pleases. And you can only imagine how
- 5:59they waited 25 years for the promise of Isaac to come, and
- 6:03now they hold in their hands the very promise that God gave to
- 6:08them. Seven.
- 6:11And she said, who would have said to Abraham that Sarah
- 6:14should have given children suck, for I have borne him a son in
- 6:20his old age. So she's nursing little Isaac.
- 6:24And that is a miracle in and of itself. 8 And the child groom
- 6:29was weaned, and Abraham made a feast the same day that Isaac
- 6:33was weaned. Perhaps this little child is now
- 6:363 years old and weaned off of suck. 9 And Sarah saw the son of
- 6:42Hagar the Egyptian, which she had borne to Abraham, mocking.
- 6:49So here Ishmael and his immaturity is mocking little
- 6:54Isaac. And Sarah noticed it. 10
- 6:58Wherefore she said to Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her
- 7:02son. For the son of the bondwoman
- 7:04should not be the heir with my son, even with Isaac.
- 7:08You see the two sons of Abraham, the son of the flesh and the son
- 7:13of promise. And you see that the son of the
- 7:18flesh has no part in the promise of God.
- 7:22It is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and Ishmael is still
- 7:28cared for and he's still loved on and there's still a promise
- 7:31that he'll be taken care of, that he'll survive and become a
- 7:36mighty nation. But it is in no way going to be
- 7:42in the same relation of the child of promise that Abraham,
- 7:49he stepped out in unfaithfulness and disobedience, and he had
- 7:55relations with Hagar and bore Ishmael thinking that he had to
- 8:00manufacture the promises of God. And here God has to deal with
- 8:05Abraham's failures. And it doesn't mean that God is
- 8:09against Ishmael. It means that God has a specific
- 8:14promise of the lineage of the Messiah in mind when it comes to
- 8:18Isaac. And all the sons of Ishmael must
- 8:23come through the lineage of the Messiah.
- 8:26Friends, it doesn't work the other way around, and it doesn't
- 8:30work any other way. It's not through Abraham that we
- 8:33find salvation. God can raise up sons from the
- 8:38stones to Abraham, Friends, it's through Yeshua.
- 8:42Hamashiach is through, I deny is through our Lord Jesus Christ
- 8:48the Anointed, that we find salvation.
- 8:51His name means salvation, and no one comes on to the Father
- 8:55except through Jesus, and that includes Ishmael and the sons of
- 9:00Ishmael. 11 And a thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight
- 9:13because of his son. Perhaps Abraham was wanting to
- 9:16hold on to Ishmael just in case something happened to little
- 9:20Isaac, but God wouldn't have him to have a back up plan. 12 And
- 9:25God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight,
- 9:28because of the lad, because of the bondwoman, and all that
- 9:33Sarah has said unto you, listen to her voice, For in Isaac shall
- 9:38your seed be called. So here he wouldn't let
- 9:41Abimelech touch Sarah. He wouldn't let Pharaoh touch
- 9:45Sarah. He wouldn't let Ishmael and the
- 9:49failure that Abraham had with Hagar interfere with his promise
- 9:55and what he was going to do. The miraculous birth of our
- 10:03Savior. And here you can see that Isaac
- 10:08is a type of Christ. This miracle birth of Isaac is
- 10:13mirroring what you're going to find in the birth of Jesus, and
- 10:21only Isaac is the seed of promise. 13 and also of the son
- 10:29of the bondwoman. I will make a nation because he
- 10:32is your seed. So here you can see that the
- 10:35Muslim world is birthed out of Ishmael and they're still around
- 10:39today. Kingdoms has have risen and
- 10:42kingdoms have fallen and people groups have assimilated, but you
- 10:46can still see they are a mighty nation and you can see that the
- 10:52Arabian people group are a blessed people group and God has
- 10:56a very special plan for them. But they must come through in
- 11:01the same way that you and I have to, through Yeshua, God the
- 11:06Father and God the Son and God the Holy Ghost.
- 11:09Three in one. 14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning and
- 11:15took bread, a bottle of water, gave it to Hagar, putting it on
- 11:19her shoulder and the child, and sent her away.
- 11:22And she departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
- 11:27So here you can see that Abraham was a very wealthy man and could
- 11:31have loaded a complete caravan up full of everything that she
- 11:35needed, but if God didn't intervene, it was of no use.
- 11:40So it was just some water and some bread and she sent, she was
- 11:44sent packing 15 in the water was spent in the bottle and she cast
- 11:50the child under one of the shrubs.
- 11:52So here we can surmise that Ishmael is probably around 15
- 11:59years old somewhere around in there.
- 12:03And as it's a child, you can see that actually he would have been
- 12:10old enough to somewhat understand all of the things
- 12:14that were happening. 16 And she went and sat her down over
- 12:19against him, a good way off, as it were, a blow shot, a bow
- 12:23shot, for she said, let me not see the death of the child.
- 12:28And she sat over against him and lifted up her voice and wept.
- 12:33So here she's crying out to Elroy, the God who sees. 17 And
- 12:39God heard the voice of the lad, and the Angel of God called to
- 12:43Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, What ails you, Hagar?
- 12:49Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he
- 12:52is. So Ishmael's crying out to God,
- 12:55And God talks to Hagar and says, Do not despair.
- 13:00I hear him. 18 Arise, lift up the lad, hold him in your hand,
- 13:07for I will make him a great nation, And you can see that
- 13:11promise still today, friends. 19 And God opened her eyes, she saw
- 13:17a well of water, and she went and filled the bottle with water
- 13:21and gave the lad drink. She could have let him die out
- 13:24there in the wilderness. Twice she's wandered off, twice
- 13:28she has gone off into the wilderness.
- 13:31Twice God could have let them die, but twice God has rescued
- 13:36them and you can still see the promises of God outlined in our
- 13:42world that we live in today. 20 And God was with the lad, and he
- 13:47grew and he dwelt in the wilderness and became an Archer.
- 13:52So you you remember from the prophecy that God told Hagar
- 13:56last time he'd be a wild man and always in opposition with his
- 14:00brothers. So he became this Archer, this
- 14:03warrior. 21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran, and his
- 14:09mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.
- 14:12So we can see here that God has a very particular promise
- 14:18towards this lad in his descendants, and they're still
- 14:23around today. 22 And it came to pass at the time that Abimelech
- 14:28and Filkol, the chief captain of his host, spoken to Abraham,
- 14:32saying God is with you and all that you do.
- 14:36So here we can see a Pagan ruler acknowledging that God is with
- 14:44Abraham, and that everything that Abraham touches turns to
- 14:48gold. 23 Now therefore swear unto me here by God, that you
- 14:53will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my
- 14:58son's son, but according to the kindness that I have done unto
- 15:01you, that you shall do to me and to the land where you have
- 15:06journeyed. So here we can see that Abraham
- 15:10is being tasked with promising a divine protection upon this
- 15:16Pagan ruler. 24 And Abraham said, I will swear. 25 And
- 15:22Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water,
- 15:26which Abimelech servants had violently taken away.
- 15:29So here we're going to see this well that it has a very huge
- 15:36significance in the story of the Bible and in the survival of
- 15:41God's people because they were not near a river or a body of
- 15:45water. This well would have been a life
- 15:47source. And here Abraham is going to
- 15:51flip the script and tell the Abimelech how he has noticed
- 15:56something that is gone under his nose but is not missed on
- 16:00Abraham. 26 And Abimelech said, I knew not who has done this
- 16:07thing. Neither did you tell me, neither
- 16:09have I heard of it, but just today.
- 16:12So here Abimelech saying, Don't hold it against me of something
- 16:15that I knew nothing about. 27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen
- 16:20and gave them to Abimelech, and both of them made a covenant.
- 16:24Perhaps he cut a covenant with this, the sheep that would have
- 16:30been splayed in two and laid out, and they would have walked
- 16:34between the middle and swore by each other that the well
- 16:38belonged to Abraham, and that Abraham would offer protection
- 16:42unto Abimelech and his sons and his son's son. 28 And Abraham
- 16:49set seven you lambs of the flock by themselves. 29 And Abimelech
- 16:54said to Abraham, What do you mean by these seven you lambs
- 16:58which you have set by themselves?
- 17:0030 And he said, For these seven you lambs shall you take of my
- 17:04hand, that they may be a witness to me, that I have dug this
- 17:07well? So he's serious about getting
- 17:11the rights to this well, and we're going to see this well
- 17:14appear many times more in the Word of God, and we can see why
- 17:18it is so important in the eyes of Abraham. 31 Wherefore he
- 17:25called that place Beersheba, because they swore, both of
- 17:29them, they would have passed through the middle of the
- 17:32splayed out lambs, and they would have grabbed each other's
- 17:36thigh, and they would have said, the blood that is spilled on the
- 17:38ground here, if you do not hold up to your end of the bargain,
- 17:43what happened to these lambs will happen to you. 32 Thus they
- 17:50made a covenant at Beersheba. Then Abimelech rose up, and Phil
- 17:55called the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the
- 17:58land of the Philistines. 33 And Abraham planted a Grove in
- 18:03Beersheba and called there on the name of the Lord, the
- 18:06everlasting God. And that is what God desires,
- 18:10friends. He wants you to call out to him
- 18:13today, acknowledge him today. Give them all of his glory and
- 18:17grace. Give them all of the worship and
- 18:19the due adoration today because he is so deserving of it.
- 18:23And that is why he chose Abraham, because he knew he was
- 18:26a man of worship. We'll end on 34 and Abraham
- 18:30journeyed in the Philistines land many days.
- 18:33We're going to see these Philistines pop up as a very
- 18:37hostile, very abrasive group against the children of promise.
- 18:44What an amazing book we hold in our hands.
- 18:47Hope you've been blessed by this chapter in God's Word.
- 18:50I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 18:53of you. I love you.
- 18:54We'll see you back here to Morrow.
- 18:55God bless you.
