Latest / Worldview Matters With David Fiorazo / Doreen Virtue: Bible Apps And ‘Christian’ Meditation Apps To Avoid
Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Fierazzo.
- 0:20God bless you, friends.
- 0:21Thank you for tuning in.
- 0:22Doreen Virtue is my guest.
- 0:24Day she's back with us.
- 0:25Before we get to her and talk about recent ministry and what we've got coming up in the
- 0:30topic today, I just want to share, first John chapter four reminds us, do not believe
- 0:37every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.
- 0:44Because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
- 0:47By this, you know the spirit of God, every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has
- 0:53come in the flesh is from God.
- 0:56And every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.
- 1:02This is the spirit of the Antichrist.
- 1:04And it goes on.
- 1:05And greater is he who is in us, the Holy Spirit, than he who is in the world, Satan and
- 1:11his minions and demonic spirits.
- 1:13So with that, we bring in Doreen Virtue, author, former New Ageer and podcasters.
- 1:19So great to see you again, sister.
- 1:21Thank you, brother David.
- 1:22Hi to everybody.
- 1:23I'm so happy to talk about this topic today.
- 1:26Yes.
- 1:27And what we're going to dive into in just a few minutes is Christian, quote, meditation,
- 1:32apps, Bible apps, just different things that we've been seeing marketed.
- 1:37And what Doreen's got a lot of discernment in this area.
- 1:40So we're going to rely on her.
- 1:41She's done a lot of research.
- 1:43And I think we need to find out what ones are not good for believers in Christ.
- 1:49And we should avoid.
- 1:50Before we do that, Doreen, you mentioned before we got on, next year, you're going to be
- 1:54speaking at the Ark and counter.
- 1:58And that's really an amazing thing.
- 2:00Because as we've talked about, they have always had, you know, creationists and apologists
- 2:06and other important topics and speakers and to bring in you.
- 2:10And I think you said, costy hen, tell us a little bit about that what people can watch
- 2:14out for.
- 2:15That's right, David.
- 2:17At the end of March, beginning of April, it's two conferences back to back called answers
- 2:22for women in AIG, answers in Genesis, answers for women, 2025 conference.
- 2:29And it, the theme and the name is called resolute and it's standing on biblical truth
- 2:34and being resolute against these false teachings that are coming into the church.
- 2:39So costy hen, as you mentioned, famous discernment teacher, myself, Amy Spreeman, Michelle
- 2:46Leslie, Jessica Smith, Katie Jay, Ran Sherry, who's one of the experts on why the
- 2:53Enneagram is to be marked and avoided.
- 2:56We're all going to be there talking for two, three day conferences.
- 3:00It's women conferences next year.
- 3:04And I really am looking forward to that.
- 3:06This is my first speech since being saved.
- 3:12When I was in the new age, I was speaking almost every weekend at different places.
- 3:17And I've gotten lots of speaking opportunities since I've been saved, but I was just waiting
- 3:22for the right one and a women's conference particularly because I don't believe in women
- 3:26teaching to mixed audiences.
- 3:29And so this is such an honor to be speaking on this topic because when I was first saved,
- 3:36I was horrified to see how much new age deception has infiltrated the church.
- 3:41Yes.
- 3:42Yes.
- 3:43And I love answers.
- 3:44And Genesis can ham.
- 3:46What an amazing ministry and legacy.
- 3:48He was just on with us a month ago.
- 3:51I just love what he's done and the work that he's done there and the the arc encounter,
- 3:56the creation, teaching biblical history, true world history and the biblical world view.
- 4:03And Genesis 1 to 11.
- 4:04That's right.
- 4:05I love it.
- 4:06I love it.
- 4:07I love it.
- 4:08He focuses on that.
- 4:10God's word, not man's word.
- 4:12So Doreen, before we jump into the topic today and warm about certain meditation, apps,
- 4:18practices and Bible apps, things like that, you're still doing the podcast, new age to
- 4:23new heart with Jack Merino Chen.
- 4:26And where?
- 4:27Oh, Jen.
- 4:28Jen needs them.
- 4:29My goodness.
- 4:30She's been on here twice.
- 4:31And I just blanked.
- 4:32Sorry, Jen, if you're watching, that's not to be taken personally.
- 4:35So I'm looking at some of the recent things you've talked about, fallen angels of the
- 4:41new age, why self-help doesn't heal, spirit, animals and guides exposed, just different
- 4:49things and reincarnation and past lives.
- 4:52You cover a lot of topics.
- 4:55But as you said, Doreen, a lot of them fall under the occult, new age, demonic spirits,
- 5:02and you've got to warn people.
- 5:04You guys have different backgrounds, you can all contribute to this.
- 5:07So just tell us, you know, how it seems like the podcast is going very well and you're
- 5:13reaching a lot of people.
- 5:15We are so blessed that God is using us to warn people about new age based on our sinful
- 5:20past.
- 5:21That's, you know, part of our redemption is that God can use what you've been through
- 5:25to warn others.
- 5:26Amen.
- 5:27We are a corporate insiders.
- 5:29And as you said, David, we come from slightly different backgrounds, Jack came out of the
- 5:32occult, Freemasonry, the Golden Dawn, and Jan was a private practice psychic medium.
- 5:42And then I was a new age teacher who did psychic readings from the stage and on media.
- 5:45And so the three of us were like best friends.
- 5:48We text and call each other like all day, all day, every day.
- 5:52So this is something that's near and dear to our heart.
- 5:55And we are very encouraged that God is using the podcast to convict people who may not even
- 6:01realize their dabbling and a dangerous new age practices.
- 6:07So let's go into the topic today, Christian meditation apps.
- 6:10And you know, I'm sure you would agree on some of these.
- 6:13You've got to put the word, the name Christian and air quotes when you say Christian meditation
- 6:19apps.
- 6:21The one that's marketed out there that we've seen is Jonathan Rumi of the chosen hollow.
- 6:28Is it that what it's called?
- 6:29Yeah.
- 6:30The hollow.
- 6:31It's the number one Roman Catholic app.
- 6:33And Jonathan Rumi is using his fame as portraying, I'm going to say it, a false Jesus on the chosen
- 6:39TV show because it's not our biblical Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
- 6:43He's portraying Jesus who is very, very portrayed in a way that emphasizes his humanity and
- 6:51de emphasizes his divinity, unfortunately.
- 6:54But he's Roman Catholic himself and he is promoting this app that if you, I actually downloaded
- 7:02it to really get inside the mechanisms of it and it invites you to pray with Mother Mary.
- 7:09Now Mother Mary, we know as the earthly mother of our Lord and Savior, she has to be revered,
- 7:14but she's not our intercessor.
- 7:16She's not someone we pray to.
- 7:18First Timothy 2.5 is crystal clear that Jesus is our only mediator between humanity and
- 7:25our Father God.
- 7:27Not angels, not archangels, not spirit guides, not Mary or any so-called saint or dead person.
- 7:36Ephesians says that deceased humans cannot hear us.
- 7:40So as much as we revere Mary as blessed among women, she is a human.
- 7:46And so she's a deceased human and she's not someone who's intercessing for our prayers.
- 7:51We can't twist the wedding of Cana to say that she's the one who can deliver requests
- 7:56to her son.
- 7:58Jesus is with us always until the end of time as believers and he is our mediator.
- 8:03He's our high priest.
- 8:05Amen.
- 8:06There is one God and one mediator between God and man.
- 8:11And that mediator is capital M, Jesus.
- 8:16So before we go on, I just feel like I want to say something about the chosen.
- 8:22By the way, I was watching it early on.
- 8:24I don't remember what season it was.
- 8:25It may have been one or two, because I wanted to check it out.
- 8:29I wanted to be somewhat knowledgeable about what I was talking to with other people.
- 8:35But when Jesus had to ask Matthew, what he thought about the sermon on the Mount, when
- 8:41he was rehearsing, understand, friends, Jesus is God.
- 8:46God was rehearsing for the sermon on the Mount.
- 8:49If you watch the chosen, you might remember that episode and there was a big curtain like
- 8:53he was about to take the stage and you're thinking, okay, so God didn't know what he wanted
- 8:59to communicate.
- 9:00He had to run it by Matthew, a man.
- 9:02Anyway, there were so many problems.
- 9:04You might think we're nitpicking, but read the Bible.
- 9:08I think the word of God, that is, it's not like it's a demonic tool, but the even the
- 9:15producer and the director says, it's not biblical, it's like 85%.
- 9:19They make up the narrative, they make it just like a Hollywood movie.
- 9:22They make up dialogue as if, here's what I think Jesus and the disciples would be talking
- 9:27about as they walked down the road or whatever.
- 9:29So just if you're watching that and it might lure some people in that know nothing about
- 9:34God, never read the Bible, it might be good for them.
- 9:37But for Christians, we need to be discerning.
- 9:39So that's all that I will share there, but let's get to the meditation apps during this
- 9:44while I wanted to have you on.
- 9:46The first one you did a recent video, you mentioned Dwell.
- 9:51What is that?
- 9:52It's obviously popular enough for you to feel like you needed to warn people about.
- 9:56Yeah, I'm an administrator, David, in a support group, a free private support group on Facebook
- 10:02for people who've been saved out of the new age.
- 10:05And some people who've got loved ones in the new age and they want support.
- 10:08And it's called from new age to Jesus.
- 10:11And we get a lot of questions about these meditation apps because let's face it, you know
- 10:16more than anybody, David, that this, the news these days, it can make you uptight and anxious
- 10:21and afraid unless you remember that God sovereign.
- 10:24And so people naturally want an outlet for their anxiety and meditation is mentioned in
- 10:30the Bible.
- 10:32And let's dive into what that means briefly before we continue.
- 10:35So we want to go to Psalm 12, which says, but his delight is in the law of the Lord.
- 10:41And on his law, he meditates day and night.
- 10:45And then let's jump over to Joshua one eight.
- 10:48This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day
- 10:53and night.
- 10:54So at this point, they're talking about the Pentateuch, aren't they?
- 10:56The first five books of Moses, the law.
- 10:59And so the word meditate in these two passages is in Hebrew.
- 11:05And it can be transliterated to Haga, Haga means literally to mutter or utter out loud.
- 11:12So it's saying mutter or utter out loud, the law, the scripture.
- 11:17It's really talking about reading scripture and saying it out loud as you're reading it.
- 11:21That's very different that when I came out of I was a new age meditation teacher for
- 11:25two decades in the new age, tragically, I think some of my old meditations are still
- 11:30out there.
- 11:31Please do not listen to them.
- 11:33They are demonic doctrines.
- 11:35But the new age meditation based on Eastern philosophy of trying to empty your mind, lots
- 11:41of mindfulness is another where you're just supposed to non-judgmentally notice your
- 11:46mind, notice your thoughts.
- 11:48That's absolutely the opposite of Jesus.
- 11:52And what the Bible teaches to take every thought captive to renew your mind through scripture.
- 11:58And also that Jesus taught us in the Sermon of the Mount since you mentioned that our
- 12:03sinful thoughts are equivalent to sinful actions.
- 12:07So all of these new age meditation methods are, they're falling under the category, David,
- 12:13of contemplative monastic mysticism.
- 12:16So the founders of the dwell app are twin brothers who come from Anglican faith.
- 12:22And one of them works for Richard Foster.
- 12:25Some of you may know that name, Richard Foster was one of the early, I'm going to say it
- 12:29false teachers of twisting scripture to incorporate new age and Eastern meditation methods into
- 12:38his teachings.
- 12:40And so Richard Foster is one to be marked and avoided for sure.
- 12:45But this whole dwell app is based on Richard Foster's contemplative movement.
- 12:50And they have taken these early church aesthetics that were wandering through the desert.
- 12:56They're called desert fathers, women and women, sometimes desert fathers and mothers.
- 13:01But they were monks and a lot of these practices were created by Roman Catholic monks.
- 13:09And so in the dwell app, you find these Roman Catholic monastic mysticism practices.
- 13:16Primarily, lacto divina, lacto divina can sound like it must be biblical because it asks
- 13:23you to read the Bible.
- 13:25So that's biblical.
- 13:26Read the Bible.
- 13:27What's wrong with that?
- 13:28But it's asking you to read the Bible and contemplate on it.
- 13:32That's biblical.
- 13:33We're supposed to chew on scripture.
- 13:35But then the part that that veers and is so spiritually dangerous is asking you to ask
- 13:42God for kind of an ethereal commentary on what you just read.
- 13:47Now the Holy Spirit will eliminate the Bible.
- 13:50He's the author of the Bible after all.
- 13:52He will use the Bible to remind you what Jesus taught to convict you your sins, to give
- 13:57you wisdom, et cetera, all those are biblical.
- 14:00But when people say that God is telling them private personal revelation through lacto
- 14:07divina of what this passage means, that is spiritually dangerous.
- 14:12Yeah.
- 14:13Yeah, that's when, you know, let me go back real quick, empty your mind.
- 14:20Some people go, well, if my mind is all busy and I'm frustrated and there's so much going
- 14:25on and commotion, I just want to get those thoughts out.
- 14:30What's wrong with meditating and emptying your mind?
- 14:33I mean, I know the answer, but share your thoughts on that briefly.
- 14:36Yeah.
- 14:37Well, you actually named it when you read first John 4.1 at the top of this show, David,
- 14:43that is testing the spirits.
- 14:45And there are, as we know, we wrestle not against flesh and blood.
- 14:48But there's fallen angels, demons, who want to compete with God by deceiving people,
- 14:55by counter-fitting what God does, by drawing as many people as possible into their layer
- 15:00and hell.
- 15:02So when you empty your mind, there's a vacuum and what these demons will try to fill it.
- 15:09There's a real, there's a real danger of if you empty your mind and you're trying to get
- 15:13a message, quote, and absolute air quotes from God that either your imagination will come
- 15:19in or your wishful thinking will come in.
- 15:22You'll think God told you to quit your job and divorce your husband and move to Peru and
- 15:26open a healing center.
- 15:27I mean, people do that.
- 15:28They say, well, God told me to do that.
- 15:30No, he didn't.
- 15:31He would not contradict scripture.
- 15:33And so emptying your mind can also leave you vulnerable to demonic messages, masquerading
- 15:39as an angel of light, even masquerading as God.
- 15:43So we have to be so, so discerning and careful.
- 15:47And that's why the Bible, it's the guardrails to keep us from falling into this deception.
- 15:52These meditation apps are so dangerous.
- 15:55They play this music that's identical to what I, actually my husband, we toured together.
- 16:01He was the new age, like keyboard, new age meditation musician at my events.
- 16:08And so it's this monotone music that puts you into a trance.
- 16:15This is the key to be where any professing Christians listen to this.
- 16:20Please heed my, my warning.
- 16:22I come from a big background of coming out of deception by God's mercy and grace going
- 16:27into trances is where we get into trouble.
- 16:30And these meditation apps are designed to put you into that altered state of consciousness,
- 16:35which can seem relaxing and it can seem like you're getting messages from God.
- 16:40But it's not going to lead to peace because it's not from Christ.
- 16:44This is a, this is the spirit of the Antichrist that you read from 1 John 4 of 1.
- 16:52So we have to talk about a little bit more about these, some of the things to avoid,
- 16:57but also a couple of good ones when we come right back with Doreen Virtue, Doreen Virtue.com

- 18:11Our guest today, Doreen Virtue, we're talking about different Bible apps and you can put
- 18:16Bible in quotes or Christian meditation.
- 18:19And she just explained very clearly about what meditation is and what it isn't, what
- 18:24is biblical meditation meditating on the word of God day and night so that you will do
- 18:29what is written in it as the scriptures say.
- 18:32By the way, I want to go back briefly.
- 18:34You had me at Psalm 1, when verse 3 says, when you do this, when your delight is in the
- 18:40law of the Lord, when you meditate on the word of God, the law of God day and night, you
- 18:44will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season
- 18:52and it goes on.
- 18:53A lot of benefits.
- 18:54And Jeremiah, I think 18 or 17 or 18 about those who meditate on the word of God being
- 19:00firmly planted.
- 19:01But back to the apps, I just went to my app store, my phone and it's, I mean, there's
- 19:07Bible devotionals, there's Bible apps, there's different versions, there's different names
- 19:12and my goodness, we better be discerning Doreen.
- 19:17So are there some, before we get into some others to really avoid, I see dwell coming
- 19:21up.
- 19:23Are there one or two that you can recommend before we go back and warn about a couple
- 19:26of others?
- 19:27Absolutely.
- 19:28My favorite app for Christians is the ESV, English standard version, free, absolutely
- 19:36free.
- 19:37These meditation apps are expensive, I should add.
- 19:40But the free app ESV Bible app, you can download it on the Google Play and also the Apple
- 19:47app store, the iOS app store.
- 19:50My husband and I listen to this every night.
- 19:52It has an audio feature and it also has a timer.
- 19:57So you can set the timer to play a half hour as you're falling asleep.
- 20:00I listen to it when I'm driving, it's so relaxing to listen to the Bible.
- 20:05My favorite, there's a lot of different voices that you can choose from.
- 20:09Some of the voices are of teacher, I guess I could call them false.
- 20:13So be careful with that one.
- 20:15The man named David Cochrane Keith has such a pleasant voice.
- 20:20Some of you who listen to Ligonier will recognize it because they play that app on the
- 20:24brakes on Ligonier radio.
- 20:27And you want to renew your mind with Scripture.
- 20:30I find David that when I'm listening to the Bible, I hear things that I often missed
- 20:35while reading that same passage.
- 20:38Yup.
- 20:39And faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
- 20:41It's a good thing to read.
- 20:42And then to hear, when you hear the Word of God, like your preacher, your pastor at church,
- 20:47I was just scrolling on.
- 20:48I got to show you this one.
- 20:49This is really interesting, pray.com.
- 20:51Pray.
- 20:52It's got what TD Jakes is on there.
- 20:57Also James Earl Jones who's probably not even a believer I'm guessing and others.
- 21:01But if that's a Christian meditation and sleep, Dorian, I'm sure you would warn about
- 21:07that one.
- 21:08There it is right there.
- 21:09So go ahead and share about either that or any others that you have in mind.
- 21:14Yeah.
- 21:15So you can see right there in that app, David, that it advertises that he reads the Bible.
- 21:20Well, go to the free ESV or if you don't like that translation on YouTube, there's dozens
- 21:25of people reading from the KJV and other translations you can prefer.
- 21:30But these apps that the read you the Bible cost a fortune.
- 21:34All of us, I think, are kind of stretched right now in the economy.
- 21:38And they also mix in just like the devil does.
- 21:42Devil mixes in some accuracy, some truth with lies, right?
- 21:46So here with the dwell app, again, going back to that.
- 21:49So it reads you the Bible and it has it in a calming voice with the transmutation, music
- 21:54in the background.
- 21:56So that you might think, well, what's wrong with that?
- 21:58But then the next page of that app will ask you to do something called centering prayer.
- 22:03And again, that's a monastic mystic practice that is asking you to do breath work.
- 22:09Breath work is this new trendy thing where it's been done in yoga classes for years.
- 22:16I know in Lamas, they did it.
- 22:17I did this with the birth of my children.
- 22:19But this is where you're supposed to zone out, go into a trance and get messages.
- 22:24And that's where we get into trouble.
- 22:26That's where we violate first Timothy first, first John four one that you mentioned.
- 22:32And we're going to be delving into messages from these spirits that are so happy to deceive
- 22:37any professing Christian that can get a hold up.
- 22:40It also, it gives you false commentary on the Bible to be involved with these practices.
- 22:46It's so easy to go to a Matthew Henry commentary that's for free online and he's solid.
- 22:53And instead, these apps are telling you to get your messages from the ethers.
- 22:59You're going to be involved in iso Jesus, which is reading and description,
- 23:02or what Chris Rosebroke calls a narso Jesus, like narcissists, where you read yourself into the story.
- 23:08They actually left you a divina is based.
- 23:11And this is a Roman Catholic method that is highly emphasized in a lot of these so-called Christian meditation apps.
- 23:19Lectio divina asks you to imagine yourself in the story of the Bible.
- 23:25I mean, there might be some value with that, but you could keep going with that.
- 23:31And then all of a sudden, you're David killing Goliath in your mind.
- 23:35And you're not.
- 23:37That's right.
- 23:38Oh my goodness, really quick Doreen, you mentioned the emptying the mind.
- 23:43You mentioned the breathing practices.
- 23:47There's so much we have to be careful of friends.
- 23:50But briefly, what about chanting?
- 23:52Because even if you chant Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, just saying a word over and over and over again,
- 23:59on the surface, that sounds well, maybe benign, maybe innocent.
- 24:03But there's more to it than that.
- 24:04It ends up in this kind of trans state.
- 24:07So I'm sure you're concerned about that as well.
- 24:10Yeah.
- 24:10And our Lord asked us to not be involved with repetitive prayer, like the pagans are.
- 24:16And that's just not trusting God.
- 24:18We need to trust in the Lord with all of our heart and not lean in our own understanding.
- 24:22Trust that God's sovereign, we don't need these gimmicks.
- 24:25We don't in our economy need to be spending our family's food budget on something that's
- 24:29going to give you spiritual bondage with these meditation apps.
- 24:35Go get the free ESB downloadable app.
- 24:38I've been listening to it for seven years now.
- 24:40It's really helped to reduce spiritual warfare in our household.
- 24:44It's helped just putting on the armor of God.
- 24:47And it's so relaxing to listen to.
- 24:49I mean, I wouldn't say listen to the book of judges while you're falling asleep,
- 24:52but you know, something like, we like the book of James or Colossians,
- 24:56going to the, you know, as you're falling asleep and then as you're driving,
- 25:01it's so calming.
- 25:02I can't emphasize God's word is, is a gift to us that we need to be immersing ourselves
- 25:08in day and night.
- 25:09So we didn't get as many apps as I would like, and I want to ask you something
- 25:14about a post that you did on Facebook recently.
- 25:17But do you know of a source of recommended apps for discerners,
- 25:22for biblical Christians that do you know of any source like that?
- 25:26That there needs to be something like that out there if there's not actually
- 25:29that's something that I want to put together.
- 25:31I've got a, I've got a list of discernment ministries where people can avoid
- 25:37false teachings, but you're right.
- 25:38We need to have a list of the recommended as well.
- 25:40So we, I mean, I thought about that because as I just pulled up my iPhone and
- 25:44saw how many apps are available.
- 25:46I'm going, well, my goodness, how do you know how many of these are legit?
- 25:48But back to your Facebook page on, you mentioned yoga and some people are
- 25:52very sensitive about this because you can do a chapel yoga at some Christian
- 25:56churches and things like that.
- 25:58But you shared an explanation of why yoga is what you say an unredeemable
- 26:03pagan worship practice.
- 26:05You say stretching is fine, but we need to avoid yoga.
- 26:09And there's an X Hindu that posted and he says, I don't know who needs to hear
- 26:13this, but Hinduism and what we know today as yoga is inseparable.
- 26:20So if you think you're just stretching and you said, so briefly during,
- 26:24we only have a minute and a half, but just a few very brief words of caution
- 26:27about yoga.
- 26:28Yeah.
- 26:29Well, we can't put Bible verses on a Ouija board and say that it's a Christian
- 26:32Ouija board.
- 26:33And none of the so-called sports have the word Christian or holy or gospel
- 26:37or chapel in front of them because you don't need to say that about swimming or
- 26:41baseball, it's only yoga because God wrote his laws in our heart.
- 26:46And we know deep down that yoga is violating the first two commandments.
- 26:50No other gods and no graven images.
- 26:52Yoga literally is twisting your body into a graven image to mimic one of the
- 26:58330 million Hindu deities.
- 27:01It is not some is not just stretching, it is bondage.
- 27:05And I understand that a lot of people maybe some, not maybe a very small number
- 27:09or maybe to this podcast.
- 27:11I think, well, wait a minute.
- 27:13I'm not even thinking that one.
- 27:14I'm stretching or doing these things.
- 27:15But what you said is very important there.
- 27:17You're mimicking these Hindu deities when you're doing these positions.
- 27:21Be very careful.
- 27:22Be discerning.
- 27:23Read the word of God, Doreen.
- 27:25I'll send people to new age, to new heart, your podcast.
- 27:28Very important.
