- 0:00Speaker 1: First Nephi, Chapters twenty through twenty two. Chapter twenty, hearken
- 0:07Speaker 1: and hear this o house of Jacob, who are called
- 0:09Speaker 1: by the name of Israel, and are come forth out
- 0:12Speaker 1: of the waters of Judah or out of the waters
- 0:14Speaker 1: of Baptism, who swear by the name of the Lord
- 0:17Speaker 1: and make mention of the God of Israel. Yet they
- 0:20Speaker 1: swear not in truth nor in righteousness. Nevertheless, they call
- 0:24Speaker 1: themselves of the Holy City. But they do not stay
- 0:26Speaker 1: themselves upon the God of Israel, who is the Lord
- 0:29Speaker 1: of hosts. Yea, the Lord of Hosts is his name. Behold.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I have declared the former things from the beginning, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I did show them suddenly, and I did it because
- 0:42Speaker 1: I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is
- 0:44Speaker 1: an iron sinew, and thy brow brass. And I have
- 0:48Speaker 1: from the beginning declared it to THEE, before it came
- 0:50Speaker 1: to pass that I showed them THEE. And I showed
- 0:53Speaker 1: them for fear lest thou shouldst say mine idol hath
- 0:57Speaker 1: done them, and my graven image at my molti an
- 1:00Speaker 1: image hath commanded them. Thou hast seen and heard all this,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and will ye not declare them? And I have showed
- 1:07Speaker 1: THEE new things from this time, even hidden things, and
- 1:10Speaker 1: thou didst not know them. They are created now and
- 1:14Speaker 1: not from the beginning, even before the day when thou
- 1:17Speaker 1: hurtest them. Not they were declared unto THEE. Lest thou
- 1:20Speaker 1: shouldst say, behold, I knew them, yea, an thou hurdest
- 1:24Speaker 1: not yea. Thou knewest not yea. From that time thine
- 1:28Speaker 1: ear was not opened, for I knew that thou wouldst
- 1:31Speaker 1: deal very treacherously and wast called a transgressor from the womb. Nevertheless,
- 1:37Speaker 1: for my name's sake, will I defer mine anger and
- 1:40Speaker 1: for my praise? Will I refrain from THEE that I
- 1:43Speaker 1: cut THEE not off, For behold, I have refined THEE.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I have chosen THEE in the furnace of affliction for
- 1:50Speaker 1: mine own sake, Yea, for mine own sake? Will I
- 1:52Speaker 1: do this? For I will not suffer my name to
- 1:55Speaker 1: be polluted. And I will not give my glory unto another.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Hearken unto me. O Jacob and Israel my called for
- 2:02Speaker 1: I am he. I am the first, and I am
- 2:05Speaker 1: also the last. Mine hand. Hath also laid the foundation
- 2:08Speaker 1: of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I call unto them, and they stand up together. All
- 2:15Speaker 1: ye assemble yourselves, And here who among them hath declared
- 2:19Speaker 1: these things unto them? The Lord hath loved him, yea,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and he will fulfill his word which ye hath declared
- 2:25Speaker 1: by them, And he will do his pleasure on Babylon,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and his arms shall come upon the Chaldeans. And also
- 2:33Speaker 1: saith the Lord I, the Lord Yea, I have spoken, yea.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I have called him to declare. I have brought him,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and he shall make his way prosperous. Come ye near
- 2:43Speaker 1: unto me. I have not spoken in secret from the beginning,
- 2:47Speaker 1: from the time that it was declared, have I spoken?
- 2:50Speaker 1: And the Lord God and his spirit hath sent me.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And thus saith the Lord, Thy Redeemer, the Holy One
- 2:56Speaker 1: of Israel. I have sent him, the Lord Thy God.
- 3:00Speaker 1: But who teacheth thee to profit, who leadeth thee by
- 3:02Speaker 1: the way thou shouldst go? Hath done it? Oh that
- 3:06Speaker 1: thou hadst hearkened to My commandments. Then had thy peace
- 3:09Speaker 1: been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves
- 3:12Speaker 1: of the sea, thy sea. It also had been as sand,
- 3:15Speaker 1: the offspring of thy bowels, like the gravel thereof his name,
- 3:19Speaker 1: should not have been cut off nor destroyed. From before me.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Go ye forth of Babylon. Flee ye from the Chaldeans,
- 3:26Speaker 1: with a voice singing, declare ye tell this utter to
- 3:29Speaker 1: the end of the earth. Say ye. The Lord Hath
- 3:31Speaker 1: redeemed his servant Jacob, and they thirsted. Not he led
- 3:36Speaker 1: them through the deserts. He caused the waters to flow
- 3:38Speaker 1: out of the rock for them. He claved the rock also,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and the waters gushed out. And notwithstanding he hath done
- 3:45Speaker 1: all this and greater also, there is no peace, saith
- 3:48Speaker 1: the Lord unto the wicked Chapter twenty one. And again hearken, o,
- 3:56Speaker 1: ye house of Israel, all ye that are broken off
- 3:59Speaker 1: and are driven because of the wickedness of the pastors
- 4:02Speaker 1: of my people. Yea, all that are broken off, that
- 4:05Speaker 1: are scattered abroad, Who are of my people? O, house
- 4:08Speaker 1: of Israel? Listen o isles unto me, And hearken ye
- 4:12Speaker 1: people from far. The Lord Hath called me from the womb,
- 4:15Speaker 1: from the bowels of my mother, and hath made mention
- 4:18Speaker 1: of my name. And he hath made my mouth like
- 4:20Speaker 1: a sharp sword in the shadow of his hand. Hath
- 4:23Speaker 1: He hid me and made me a polished shaft in
- 4:26Speaker 1: his quiver. Hath He hid me. And he said, unto me,
- 4:29Speaker 1: thou art my servant o Israel, in whom I will
- 4:32Speaker 1: be glorified. Then I said, I have labored in vain.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I have spent my strength for naught, and in vain.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work
- 4:42Speaker 1: with my God. And now saith the Lord that formed
- 4:46Speaker 1: me from the womb, that I should be his servant
- 4:49Speaker 1: to bring Jacob again to him. Though Israel be not gathered, yet,
- 4:53Speaker 1: shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And my God shall be my strength. And he said,
- 4:59Speaker 1: it is a light that thou shouldst be my servant
- 5:01Speaker 1: to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore
- 5:04Speaker 1: the preserved of Israel. I will also give thee for
- 5:07Speaker 1: a light to the gentiles, that thou mayest be my
- 5:10Speaker 1: salvation unto the ends of the earth. Thus saith the Lord,
- 5:14Speaker 1: the Redeemer of Israel, his holy One, to him whom
- 5:17Speaker 1: man despiseth, to him whom the nation of horith, to
- 5:21Speaker 1: servant of rulers, King shall see and arise. Princes also
- 5:25Speaker 1: shall worship because of the Lord that is faithful. Thus
- 5:29Speaker 1: saith the Lord. In an acceptable time. Have I heard
- 5:33Speaker 1: thee o isles of the sea, And in a day
- 5:35Speaker 1: of salvation have I helped thee. And I will preserve thee,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and give thee my servant. For a covenant of the people,
- 5:42Speaker 1: to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages,
- 5:46Speaker 1: that thou mayest say to the prisoners, go forth, to
- 5:48Speaker 1: them that sit in darkness, show yourselves. They shall feed
- 5:52Speaker 1: in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all
- 5:55Speaker 1: high places. They shall not hunger nor thirst. Neither shall
- 5:59Speaker 1: the heat nor the unsmite them. For he that hath
- 6:01Speaker 1: mercy on them shall lead them. Even by the springs
- 6:04Speaker 1: of water shall he guide them. And I will make
- 6:07Speaker 1: my mountains away and by highways shall be exalted. And then,
- 6:11Speaker 1: O House of Israel, behold, these shall come from far
- 6:15Speaker 1: and lo, these from the north and from the west,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and these from the land of Sinnam, sing o heavens,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and be joyful, O Earth, For the feet of those
- 6:24Speaker 1: who are in the east shall be established, and break
- 6:27Speaker 1: forth into singing o mountains, For they shall be smitten
- 6:30Speaker 1: no more, for the Lord hath comforted his people and
- 6:34Speaker 1: will have mercy upon his afflicted. But behold, Zion hath said,
- 6:38Speaker 1: the Lord hath forsaken me, and my lord hath forgotten me.
- 6:42Speaker 1: But he will show that he hath nought. For can
- 6:45Speaker 1: a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not
- 6:48Speaker 1: have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they
- 6:50Speaker 1: may forget, Yet I will not forget THEE, O house
- 6:54Speaker 1: of Israel. Behold, I have graven THEE upon the palms
- 6:57Speaker 1: of my hands. Thy walls are continually for me. Thy
- 7:01Speaker 1: children shall make haste against thy destroyers, and they that
- 7:04Speaker 1: made THEE waste shall go forth of THEE. Lift up
- 7:07Speaker 1: thine eyes round about, and behold all these gathered themselves together,
- 7:12Speaker 1: And they shall come to THEE. And as I live
- 7:15Speaker 1: saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe THEE with them
- 7:18Speaker 1: all as with an ornament, and bind them on even
- 7:21Speaker 1: as a bride. For thy waste and thy desolate places,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and the land of thy destruction shall even now be
- 7:28Speaker 1: too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, And they that
- 7:31Speaker 1: swallowed thee up shall be far away. The children whom
- 7:34Speaker 1: thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the first, shall again,
- 7:38Speaker 1: in thy ears say the place is too strait for me,
- 7:40Speaker 1: give place to me that I may dwell. Then shalt
- 7:44Speaker 1: thou say in thine heart, who hath begotten me these?
- 7:47Speaker 1: Seeing I have lost my children and am desolate, a
- 7:50Speaker 1: captive and removing to and fro. And who hath brought
- 7:54Speaker 1: up these? Behold? I was left alone these where had
- 7:58Speaker 1: they been? Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will
- 8:02Speaker 1: lift up my hand to the gentiles and set up
- 8:04Speaker 1: my standard to the people. And they shall bring thy
- 8:07Speaker 1: sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried
- 8:10Speaker 1: upon their shoulders, and king shall be thy nursing fathers,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and their queens thy nursing mothers. They shall bow down
- 8:17Speaker 1: to thee with their face towards the earth, and lick
- 8:19Speaker 1: up the dust of thy feet. And thou shalt know
- 8:22Speaker 1: that I am the Lord, for they shall not be
- 8:24Speaker 1: ashamed that wait for me. For shall the prey be
- 8:27Speaker 1: taken from the Mighty, or the lawful captives delivered? But
- 8:31Speaker 1: thus saith the Lord, even the captives of the Mighty
- 8:34Speaker 1: shall be taken away, and the prey of the Terrible
- 8:37Speaker 1: shall be delivered, for I will contend with them that
- 8:39Speaker 1: contended with THEE, and I will save thy children. And
- 8:43Speaker 1: I will feed on them that oppress THEE with their
- 8:45Speaker 1: own flesh, and they shall be drunken with their own blood,
- 8:48Speaker 1: as with sweet wine, and all flesh shall know that
- 8:51Speaker 1: I the Lord, am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the
- 8:55Speaker 1: mighty One of Jacoba two twenty two. And now it
- 9:02Speaker 1: came to pass that after I Nephi had read these
- 9:04Speaker 1: things which were engraven upon the plates of brass, my
- 9:07Speaker 1: brethren came unto me and said, unto me, what meaneth
- 9:10Speaker 1: these things which ye have read? Behold are they to
- 9:13Speaker 1: be understood according to things which are spiritual, which shall
- 9:16Speaker 1: come to pass according to the Spirit, and not the flesh.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And I Nephi said unto them, behold, they were manifest
- 9:23Speaker 1: unto the prophet, by the voice of the Spirit. For
- 9:25Speaker 1: by the Spirit are all things made known unto the prophets,
- 9:28Speaker 1: which shall come upon the children of men according to
- 9:31Speaker 1: the flesh. Wherefore, the things of which I have read
- 9:34Speaker 1: are things pertaining to things both temporal and spiritual. For
- 9:38Speaker 1: it appears that the House of Israel, sooner or later
- 9:40Speaker 1: will be scattered upon all the face of the earth,
- 9:43Speaker 1: and also among all nations. And behold, there are many
- 9:46Speaker 1: who are already lost from the knowledge of those who
- 9:49Speaker 1: are at Jerusalem. Yea, the more part of all the
- 9:51Speaker 1: tribes have been led away, and they are scattered to
- 9:54Speaker 1: and fro upon the isles of the sea. And whether
- 9:56Speaker 1: they are none of us knoweth, save we know that
- 9:59Speaker 1: they have been led away. And since they have been
- 10:01Speaker 1: led away, these things have been prophesied concerning them, and
- 10:05Speaker 1: also concerning all those who shall hereafter be scattered and
- 10:08Speaker 1: be confounded because of the Holy One of Israel. For
- 10:11Speaker 1: against Him will they harden their hearts. Wherefore they shall
- 10:15Speaker 1: be scattered among all nations, and shall be hated of
- 10:18Speaker 1: all men. Nevertheless, after they shall be nursed by the gentiles.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And the Lord has lifted up his hand upon the
- 10:24Speaker 1: gentiles and set them up for a standard, and their
- 10:27Speaker 1: children have been carried in their arms, and their daughters
- 10:29Speaker 1: have been carried upon their shoulders. Behold, these things of
- 10:32Speaker 1: which are spoken are temporal. For thus are the commandments
- 10:35Speaker 1: of the Lord with our fathers, And it meaneth in
- 10:38Speaker 1: the days to come. And also all our brethren, who
- 10:40Speaker 1: are of the House of Israel. And it meaneth that
- 10:43Speaker 1: the time cometh that, after all the House of Israel
- 10:45Speaker 1: have been scattered and confounded, that the Lord God will
- 10:48Speaker 1: raise up a mighty nation among the gentiles. Yea, even
- 10:52Speaker 1: upon the face of this land, and by them shall
- 10:54Speaker 1: our seed be scattered. And after our seed is scattered,
- 10:57Speaker 1: the Lord God will proceed to do a marvelous work
- 10:59Speaker 1: amae the gentiles, which shall be of great worth unto
- 11:02Speaker 1: our seed. Wherefore it is likened unto their being nourished
- 11:05Speaker 1: by the gentiles, and being carried in their arms and
- 11:08Speaker 1: upon their shoulders. And it shall also be of worth
- 11:11Speaker 1: unto the gentiles, and not only unto the gentiles, but
- 11:14Speaker 1: unto all the House of Israel, unto the making known
- 11:17Speaker 1: of the covenants of the Father of Heaven, unto Abraham, saying,
- 11:21Speaker 1: in thy seed shall the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And I would my brethren, that ye should know that
- 11:26Speaker 1: all the kindreds of the earth cannot be blessed unless
- 11:29Speaker 1: he shall make bear his arm in the eyes of
- 11:31Speaker 1: the nations. Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to make
- 11:35Speaker 1: bear his arm in the eyes of all the nations,
- 11:38Speaker 1: in bringing about his covenants and his gospel unto those
- 11:40Speaker 1: who are of the House of Israel. Wherefore he will
- 11:44Speaker 1: bring them again out of captivity, and they shall be
- 11:47Speaker 1: gathered together to the lands of their inheritance, and they
- 11:50Speaker 1: shall be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and they shall know that the Lord is their savior
- 11:55Speaker 1: and their redeemer, the Mighty One of Israel. And the
- 11:59Speaker 1: blood of the Great and abominable Church, which is the
- 12:01Speaker 1: whore of all the earth, shall turn upon their own heads,
- 12:05Speaker 1: for they shall war among themselves, and the sword of
- 12:07Speaker 1: their own hands shall fall upon their own heads, and
- 12:10Speaker 1: they shall be drunken with their own blood. And every
- 12:14Speaker 1: nation which shall war against thee O House of Israel
- 12:16Speaker 1: shall be turned one against another, and they shall fall
- 12:19Speaker 1: into the pit which they digged to ensnare the people
- 12:22Speaker 1: of the Lord. And all that fight against Zion shall
- 12:25Speaker 1: be destroyed. And that great whore who hath perverted the
- 12:28Speaker 1: right ways of the Lord. Yea, that great and abominable
- 12:31Speaker 1: Church shall tumble to the dust, and great shall be
- 12:34Speaker 1: the fall of it. For behold saith the Prophet, the
- 12:37Speaker 1: time cometh speedily that Satan shall have no more power
- 12:40Speaker 1: over the hearts of the children of men. For the
- 12:43Speaker 1: day soon cometh that all the proud and they who
- 12:45Speaker 1: do wickedly shall be as stubble, and the day cometh
- 12:48Speaker 1: that they must be burned. For the time soon cometh
- 12:51Speaker 1: that the fullness of the wrath of God shall be
- 12:53Speaker 1: poured out upon all the children of men. For He
- 12:55Speaker 1: will not suffer that the wicked shall destroy the righteous.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Wherefore he will preserve the righteous by his power, even
- 13:02Speaker 1: if it so be that the fullness of his wrath
- 13:04Speaker 1: must come, and the righteous be preserved even unto the
- 13:07Speaker 1: destruction of their enemies by fire. Wherefore the righteous need
- 13:11Speaker 1: not fear, For thus saith the Prophet, they shall be saved,
- 13:14Speaker 1: even if it so be as by fire. Behold, my brethren,
- 13:19Speaker 1: I say unto you that these things must shortly come. Yea,
- 13:22Speaker 1: even blood and fire and vapor of smoke must come,
- 13:26Speaker 1: and it must needs be upon the face of the earth.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And it cometh unto men according to the flesh. If
- 13:31Speaker 1: it so be, that they will harden their hearts against
- 13:33Speaker 1: the Holy One of Israel, for behold, the righteous shall
- 13:36Speaker 1: not perish. For the time surely must come that all
- 13:39Speaker 1: they who fight against Zion shall be cut off and
- 13:42Speaker 1: the Lord will surely prepare away for his people unto
- 13:45Speaker 1: the fulfilling of the words of Moses, which he spake,
- 13:47Speaker 1: saying a prophet, shall the Lord your God raise up
- 13:50Speaker 1: unto you like unto me? Him shall ye hear in
- 13:53Speaker 1: all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it
- 13:57Speaker 1: shall come to pass that all those who will not
- 13:59Speaker 1: hear that prophet shall be cut off from among the people.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And now I Nephi declare unto you that this prophet
- 14:05Speaker 1: of whom Moses spake was the Holy One of Israel.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Wherefore he shall execute judgment in righteousness. And the righteous
- 14:13Speaker 1: need not fear, for they are those who shall not
- 14:15Speaker 1: be confounded. But it is the kingdom of the devil
- 14:18Speaker 1: which shall be built up among the children of men.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Which kingdom is established among them which are in the flesh.
- 14:24Speaker 1: For the time speedily shall come that all churches which
- 14:27Speaker 1: are built up to get gain, and all those who
- 14:30Speaker 1: are built up to get power over the flesh, and
- 14:32Speaker 1: those who are built up to become popular in the
- 14:34Speaker 1: eyes of the world, and those who seek the lusts
- 14:37Speaker 1: of the flesh and the things of the world, and
- 14:39Speaker 1: do all manner of iniquity, yea and find all those
- 14:42Speaker 1: who belong to the kingdom of the devil. Are they
- 14:45Speaker 1: who need fear and tremble and quake. They are those
- 14:49Speaker 1: who must be brought low in the dust. They are
- 14:51Speaker 1: those who must be consumed as stubble. And this is
- 14:54Speaker 1: according to the words of the prophet. And the time
- 14:57Speaker 1: cometh speedily that the righteous must be led up as
- 15:00Speaker 1: calves of the stall. And the Holy One of Israel
- 15:02Speaker 1: must reign in dominion and might and power and great glory.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of
- 15:09Speaker 1: the earth, and he numbereth his sheep, and they know him.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And there shall be one fold and one shepherd, and
- 15:16Speaker 1: he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall
- 15:18Speaker 1: find pasture. And because of the righteousness of his people,
- 15:22Speaker 1: Satan has no power. Wherefore he cannot be loosed for
- 15:25Speaker 1: the space of many years. For he hath no power
- 15:28Speaker 1: over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness.
- 15:31Speaker 1: And the Holy One of Israel reigneth. And now behold,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I Nephi say unto you that all these things must
- 15:37Speaker 1: come according to the flesh. But behold, all nations, kindreds, tongues,
- 15:41Speaker 1: and people shall dwell safely in the Holy One of Israel,
- 15:44Speaker 1: if it so be that they will repent, And now I, Nephi,
- 15:48Speaker 1: make an end, for I durst not speak further as
- 15:50Speaker 1: yet concerning these things. Wherefore, my brethren, I would that
- 15:54Speaker 1: ye should consider that the things which have been written
- 15:56Speaker 1: upon the plates of brass are true, and they testify
- 15:59Speaker 1: that a man must be obedient to the commandments of God.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Wherefore ye need not suppose that I and my father
- 16:05Speaker 1: are the only ones that have testified and also taught them. Wherefore,
- 16:09Speaker 1: if ye shall be obedient to the commandments and endure
- 16:12Speaker 1: to the end, ye shall be saved at the last day.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And thus it is amen. End of First Nephi, chapters
- 16:22Speaker 1: twenty through twenty two.
