- 0:04Speaker 1: Breaking news during the show, Cody Bellinger and the Yankees
- 0:08Speaker 1: are married again. Five year contract one hundred and sixty
- 0:12Speaker 1: two and a half million dollars. It's very front loaded.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We're learning all of.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The details as we go here.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It includes a twenty million dollars signing bonus, and the
- 0:20Speaker 1: first two seasons of the contract are thirty two and
- 0:23Speaker 1: a half million dollars. That's an addition to the signing bonus.
- 0:26Speaker 1: The signing bonus, for context, is included in that total
- 0:29Speaker 1: number that we learn, right, it's not an additional signing whatness.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I know some people were asking about that.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So it's one hundred and sixty two and a half
- 0:35Speaker 1: million dollars during the course of the contract, but he
- 0:37Speaker 1: gets twenty plus thirty two and a half a year.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So when you add that up, the first two years
- 0:42Speaker 1: of the contract contain eighty five million dollars. That's more
- 0:46Speaker 1: than half of the contract in two years versus what
- 0:49Speaker 1: it looks like in the last three years. That is
- 0:51Speaker 1: called front loaded, and that makes sense because he should
- 0:55Speaker 1: be better in those first two years than he is
- 0:56Speaker 1: in the last three years. Well, I mean, how much
- 0:59Speaker 1: does he make those first two eighty five million dollars.
- 1:02Speaker 3: How much does Aaron Judge make a year? You tell
- 1:06Speaker 3: me forty?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Exact number is it? Forty?
- 1:08Speaker 3: So Cody Bellinger the first two years is making more
- 1:10Speaker 3: than aerror Judge.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Well, Judge signed years ago and he went back to
- 1:13Speaker 1: his team. That's I'm just that's the market.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Saying he're there anywhere. I'm just saying, for these next
- 1:18Speaker 3: two years, Yankee fans, Cody Bellinger is making more than
- 1:20Speaker 3: AIRR Judge.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Aaron's a little bigger than Cody, So I don't think
- 1:22Speaker 1: he's going to go up to him and say ha ha.
- 1:24Speaker 1: But for Cody, he can opt out. Great for Cody, Well, Kratz,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you're stronger than him, But I don't know about Cody.
- 1:31Speaker 1: You're stronger than Judge. But anyway, I don't know if
- 1:35Speaker 1: Cody is going to end up opting out again, none
- 1:38Speaker 1: of us know. But if he puts seasons together like
- 1:40Speaker 1: he did last year, he can go back into the
- 1:42Speaker 1: market again. He's done this a lot. He's a guy
- 1:44Speaker 1: that's been attached to opt outs. He's got it. Not
- 1:47Speaker 1: after year one, after your two and year three. If
- 1:50Speaker 1: we have a lockout that takes out of season, he gets.
- 1:54Speaker 2: The opt out pushed back. That's actually language that's pushed
- 1:57Speaker 2: in there or put in there.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So what do you think about the deal that we
- 2:00Speaker 1: basically already knew publicly for a while.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Now, whan isn't this what the Yankees offered? Like weeks
- 2:04Speaker 3: ago it came out that it was this. I mean,
- 2:06Speaker 3: I think he got like two million more dollars. But
- 2:09Speaker 3: if five one sixty was the rumor being so, he
- 2:12Speaker 3: could have done this weeks ago. But there's one thing
- 2:15Speaker 3: that one of the main suitters was who the Mats
- 2:18Speaker 3: Matt and who they just traded for last night Atlas Robert.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Then what was the other team? The Blue Jays. They
- 2:23Speaker 3: were probably comfortable paying him forty million dollars a year, right,
- 2:26Speaker 3: so they said okay? And then Bellinger didn't really have
- 2:28Speaker 3: any other suitors that I can find that anyone mentioned,
- 2:31Speaker 3: So he took the best deal available to him. Good
- 2:33Speaker 3: for him. One hundred and sixty two point five million
- 2:35Speaker 3: is a lot of millions.
- 2:37Speaker 1: He wanted seven years, or his team wanted seven years.
- 2:41Speaker 2: They got it right.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And Krats, I mean, he put together a great year
- 2:46Speaker 1: this past season for the Yankees, one twenty five ops
- 2:49Speaker 1: plus one hundreds league average five point one baseball war.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I mean five win player is really good. I mean
- 2:56Speaker 1: the park didn't hurt. His ops at home was nine
- 2:58Speaker 1: oh nine, his ops on the road was seven to fifteen.
- 3:01Speaker 1: He just fit really well with this squad. He also
- 3:04Speaker 1: improved his numbers significantly against left handed pitching him. He
- 3:07Speaker 1: was one of the better lefty edders against lefty pitching
- 3:10Speaker 1: this past season. So he had a really strong year.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It's a good marriage. Keep it running, absolutely.
- 3:15Speaker 4: I mean we've said it the whole time that I
- 3:17Speaker 4: think the value is not just in the fact that
- 3:19Speaker 4: he had twenty nine homers. I think everybody on the
- 3:22Speaker 4: team's home runs spiked, from Ben Rice to Jazz Chisholm.
- 3:28Speaker 4: You know, Anthony Volpi had. You know, I think he
- 3:31Speaker 4: had nineteen homers. Like the home runs are gonna come
- 3:35Speaker 4: to me. For Cody to be the most valuable to
- 3:38Speaker 4: a team, it's gonna not be if he hits thirty homers.
- 3:42Speaker 4: It's gonna be if he puts together good at bats
- 3:47Speaker 4: around Judge wherever that is. If they're going to settle
- 3:50Speaker 4: him in behind Judge, he's got to be able to
- 3:53Speaker 4: put together good at bats to be able to knock
- 3:55Speaker 4: Judge around when they're walking him one d to one
- 3:58Speaker 4: hundred and fifty times, and it's you know, it's being
- 4:02Speaker 4: a past in that lineup. But then also giving the
- 4:04Speaker 4: Yankee some flexibility, not just this year where he will
- 4:07Speaker 4: not play center field. Trent Grisham will play center field
- 4:10Speaker 4: because Trent Grisham's making the qualifying offer twenty two million,
- 4:14Speaker 4: but where he can play left Ben Rice catches some
- 4:17Speaker 4: games he's going to move away from first now they
- 4:20Speaker 4: don't have to find another first baseman. Cody can fill
- 4:23Speaker 4: in it first, and then most likely when Trent Grisham
- 4:25Speaker 4: leaves next year, he can slot in in center field.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Does he play the entirety of the rest of his
- 4:30Speaker 4: contract last four years in center field. I don't know.
- 4:35Speaker 4: We don't know where that's going to be. But I
- 4:37Speaker 4: think this was as much as Yankee fans, I think
- 4:40Speaker 4: started sweating a little bit. This was my This was
- 4:45Speaker 4: my lock, and then my second lock was Bragman back
- 4:47Speaker 4: to the Red Sox. Well, clearly my second lock missed
- 4:51Speaker 4: this one hit. And I'm glad for both because he
- 4:54Speaker 4: had success there and he doesn't have to play the
- 4:58Speaker 4: opt out game, but he can and if he.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Wants to remember one year ago he was traded from
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Cubs to the Yankees, and the Yankees took on
- 5:09Speaker 1: ninety percent of that contract, but the Cubs had to
- 5:12Speaker 1: eat five million dollars. It wasn't an easy contract to swap, right.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It was two years fifty two and a half million
- 5:19Speaker 1: left and five of that was covered, so the Yankees
- 5:22Speaker 1: were taking on two years forty seven point five million dollars.
- 5:27Speaker 1: My point is that his stock swored this past season
- 5:30Speaker 1: with the Yankees, especially within the Yankees, right. I mean,
- 5:35Speaker 1: he was not looked at across baseball as a superstar.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It was looked at as someone who had MVP moments
- 5:41Speaker 1: and then had low points, had shoulder issues, had inconsistencies
- 5:45Speaker 1: with swing, but really has become an all around player
- 5:48Speaker 1: and had a great year.
- 5:49Speaker 4: For New York.
- 5:51Speaker 3: No, what's not the right? What is this?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Did his stock storp?
- 5:59Speaker 3: I just think he had two solid years back to back,
- 6:01Speaker 3: and actually he didn't really, he had one year back
- 6:03Speaker 3: to back.
- 6:04Speaker 1: This year was really good and it was a perfect match.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So yeah, I would say his stock.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Went up surely because he was able to handle New York.
- 6:10Speaker 3: He played well in New York, and therefore the Yankees
- 6:13Speaker 3: for the Yankees his stock sword. Right again, what were
- 6:16Speaker 3: the other suitors? That's the thing, that's my thing right now.
- 6:20Speaker 3: We don't know the others back, but the Mets. The
- 6:22Speaker 3: Mets were definitely interested, and they were not in his
- 6:24Speaker 3: number because I they would have been in this number,
- 6:26Speaker 3: they would have got it done. Knowing Stevie Cohen, if
- 6:28Speaker 3: there's two teams that are closed, he'll just say, oh,
- 6:30Speaker 3: here's twenty extra million, go get it done. Right, He
- 6:33Speaker 3: didn't do that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: They wanted a shorter term deal.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We'll find out maybe what that looked like, but it
- 6:37Speaker 1: was probably two maybe three years. Okay, you got a
- 6:40Speaker 1: mini version of the Bobaschett offer that goes on, what
- 6:43Speaker 1: does this do for Jason Domingos?
- 6:44Speaker 3: What does this do for Spencer Jones? What does this
- 6:47Speaker 3: do for some of those Yankee hype prospects that we've
- 6:49Speaker 3: been hearing about for so long? Yeah?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Trade one of them from Freddy par Alton.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Okay, which one.
- 6:59Speaker 4: H h Which one goes?
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Which one goes? Or which one? Would we trade either?
- 7:06Speaker 3: Or you tell me which one should go? Which one
- 7:08Speaker 3: is gonna go?
- 7:10Speaker 4: If I'm the Brewers, I take Spencer Jones. I think
- 7:12Speaker 4: you've seen what Jason Deminguez can do, has done whatever?
- 7:17Speaker 4: And can you afford to have him hit right handed?
- 7:20Speaker 4: Or does he become a platoon Obviously, you don't know
- 7:23Speaker 4: what Spencer Jones is gonna do, but you're gonna say,
- 7:26Speaker 4: I get it. He strikes out a third of the
- 7:28Speaker 4: time in the minor leagues. We're putting them in the
- 7:31Speaker 4: big leagues. He's gonna steal twenty plus bases for us.
- 7:34Speaker 4: He's gonna play, He's gonna play the outfield really well.
- 7:38Speaker 4: I mean he's a center field. I'm not saying he's
- 7:40Speaker 4: gonna play center field there. But then you're gonna have
- 7:43Speaker 4: You're gonna have Churio him in the outfield. And to me,
- 7:47Speaker 4: it's gotta be Spencer Jones and somebody Spencer Jones and
- 7:51Speaker 4: another piece. And I don't think the I don't think
- 7:54Speaker 4: the Brewers will come off somebody that's not a big
- 7:57Speaker 4: league pitcher like it has to me, it has to
- 7:59Speaker 4: be a big Leagy Pictre because they're getting rid of Freddy.
- 8:02Speaker 4: It would be Spencer and a big league Pictures is
- 8:04Speaker 4: ready to go.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Nobody likes a bloated cell phone bill.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It can consume you, it can take over it can
- 8:12Speaker 1: be very annoying. So I know that twenty twenty five
- 8:15Speaker 1: ended crafts and that's when you have your end of
- 8:17Speaker 1: your sales, but there actually is still one sale that
- 8:20Speaker 1: is running until the end of the month.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Midmobile they still have their fifty percent off their unlimited
- 8:25Speaker 4: premium wireless offer that you got to go and get
- 8:28Speaker 4: and take advantage of.

- 8:31Speaker 1: the time, and all plans come with high speed data

- 8:41Speaker 1: off unlimited premium wireless plans start at fifteen bucks a
- 8:44Speaker 1: month at mittmobile dot com slash territory. That's mintmobile dot
- 8:47Speaker 1: com slash Territory, Limited time offer upfront payment of forty
- 8:50Speaker 1: five dollars for three months, ninety dollars for six months,
- 8:52Speaker 1: or one hundred and eighty dollars for twelve months. Plan
- 8:54Speaker 1: required fifteen dollars per month equivalent taxes and fees extra
- 8:57Speaker 1: initial plan term only. Over fifty gigables may slow a
- 9:00Speaker 1: network is busy, capable device required, availability, speed and coverage varies.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Mobile dot Com is that Will Warren Schlittler.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Not Schlittler, but I don't think they're not doing.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but then you can't have Jones and any of
- 9:18Speaker 1: those guys in the deal. That's too much for one
- 9:20Speaker 1: year a player. Yes, I'm telling you that's too much.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Jones has proven zero.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I know, but that's too much for industry standards. I'm
- 9:28Speaker 2: just telling you.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Also, So then why when you throw Domingos and a
- 9:31Speaker 3: one of those guys it's too much.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You're going to get one of those You're getting one
- 9:37Speaker 1: of those guys in there, and then someone.
- 9:39Speaker 3: On the Okay, where's Jason.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Oh, let me answer the question. Kratz did his for me.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'm trading Diminga is potentially in a deal for Freddy
- 9:49Speaker 1: Peralta or Nick Pavetta or Mackenzie Gore. Yeah, I mean
- 9:52Speaker 1: there's a logjam, and for me, Jones has more upside.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Jones is much more of an enigma. He might strike
- 9:58Speaker 1: out way too much, or he could become a star
- 10:00Speaker 1: with Domingos.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Do we think he's going to be a star.
- 10:05Speaker 4: We can ask Derek. I don't know. You can't. You can't.
- 10:08Speaker 4: You can't just trade who you want. It's the team
- 10:10Speaker 4: who does the team want. That's why I'm saying Spencer
- 10:13Speaker 4: Jones is going to be who the Brewers want. The
- 10:16Speaker 4: Brewers don't want Jason Dominga's He's right now, he's proven
- 10:20Speaker 4: that he's not the guy. To me, I think the
- 10:22Speaker 4: Brewers would want Spencer Jones if I'm like, you can't
- 10:27Speaker 4: just be like, we want Freddy Peralta and we'll give
- 10:30Speaker 4: you Jason Domingus, you can have him.
- 10:34Speaker 3: To me, here's the thing with Dmingas. Mingas didn't play
- 10:36Speaker 3: in the postseason. Okay, that tells you what the Yankees
- 10:42Speaker 3: thinking about him.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You think is too low to be a centerpiece in
- 10:45Speaker 2: a deal.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I think it's you can't do that.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Okay, Well, Slitler, you have Freddy Perolta. Slitler was Who's
- 10:53Speaker 3: better Schlittler? Ferdie Perolta.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Schlittler's upside is pretty dead.
- 10:58Speaker 3: So what I asked you, what's Who's.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'm not trading Schlitler. If I'm the Yankees, what if.
- 11:03Speaker 3: They chose that test, that's we have to have him
- 11:06Speaker 3: to get the deal.
- 11:06Speaker 2: The fuck off.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm going to the Padres for Pavetta. I'm going to
- 11:10Speaker 1: the Nationals for Mackenzie Gore. I'm going down the line
- 11:12Speaker 1: for other guys I can't think of right now.
- 11:13Speaker 3: So every team goes, we want Schlitler, you trade them
- 11:15Speaker 3: or you just stick with them.
- 11:16Speaker 2: No, I'm not trading it.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Okay, So what if they say we have to have
- 11:19Speaker 3: Spencer Jones and Will Warren.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I still think that's a little bit high I do.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It's one season of a player. Look at look at
- 11:27Speaker 1: the deal.
- 11:28Speaker 3: They say, we want Schlitler in and are we want
- 11:31Speaker 3: Spencer Jones and Will Warren.
- 11:35Speaker 4: No, no, you're getting Freddy. You're getting Freddy Peralta for
- 11:39Speaker 4: one season. That automatically puts you an extra an extra
- 11:45Speaker 4: win in a playoff series, because obviously I don't think
- 11:48Speaker 4: the Yankees are going anywhere if Cole doesn't come back
- 11:51Speaker 4: to be Cole, Rodin doesn't come back to be Rodin.
- 11:53Speaker 4: But the beginning of the season, you need somebody to
- 11:57Speaker 4: step up to be that number one. Freddy is that
- 12:01Speaker 4: number one. And then in the postseason you have those
- 12:04Speaker 4: three guys starting your first three games of every series.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I don't care if the Yankees strikeout a lot or not.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Their lineup that is a legit starting rotation to have
- 12:15Speaker 4: to face twice in a seven game series.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Now Dominguez Jones and Will Warren plus another prospect or
- 12:24Speaker 1: two that is less developed for Terrek Scooble.
- 12:28Speaker 3: You only get one year.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I don't give a shit.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Oh now see now the rules change, crowd.
- 12:33Speaker 2: They don't change.
- 12:34Speaker 3: It's only one year though, I've not given up though
- 12:36Speaker 3: for one year.
- 12:38Speaker 4: How they want him? How bad do they want them?
- 12:44Speaker 1: But but the point that AJ started with here is
- 12:46Speaker 1: that they now have a.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Serious log jam in the outfield, a log jam which
- 12:51Speaker 3: is Cody Villager the first baseman.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Well, could be a little bit of both, and it
- 12:56Speaker 1: gives you versatility, but for now, it's Ben.
- 12:59Speaker 2: They want to Ben run with it.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Man, there's a lot of leftended hitters in this.
- 13:05Speaker 4: They also have a belief. They also have a belief
- 13:09Speaker 4: that Ben Rice can catch in the big leagues. Well,
- 13:11Speaker 4: so I'm not saying I.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Believe they but it never happened.
- 13:17Speaker 4: I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you that, you know, we.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Saw Ben Rice. We saw Ben Rice catch. It was
- 13:24Speaker 3: i it wasn't great.
- 13:27Speaker 4: But the framing numbers are what they looked at. And
- 13:29Speaker 4: so how does that change? How does that change with
- 13:32Speaker 4: the abs coming in? Because there is a there's a
- 13:36Speaker 4: large value put to that, because if Ben Rice needs
- 13:39Speaker 4: to play first base and is a first baseman for
- 13:42Speaker 4: the entire season, is that more value than mixing in
- 13:48Speaker 4: Jason Dominga's and left field and putting Cody Bellinger in
- 13:51Speaker 4: Because Jason Dimingaz can't hit lefties, so it's not really
- 13:54Speaker 4: a it's not really that platoon, and you're not gonna
- 13:57Speaker 4: put them in there when it's right handers because you
- 14:00Speaker 4: don't want Belly or Ben Rice out of the lineup.
- 14:03Speaker 4: And Austin Wells is left handed, so it's a heavy,
- 14:06Speaker 4: heavy left handed lineup that. Oh, the Red Sox just
- 14:11Speaker 4: picked up another lefty too, So you think about how
- 14:14Speaker 4: it's like working out, It'll be interesting. It'll definitely be interesting.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Guys will get hurt too, well, yeah, wow, John Carlos
- 14:22Speaker 1: stands not playing.
- 14:23Speaker 2: A full season or hitting a full season.
- 14:26Speaker 1: True, So then you have a DH spot that's opened
- 14:28Speaker 1: up for other guys to mix and match.
- 14:31Speaker 2: See, you've got some bashers.
- 14:33Speaker 4: One of those guys going Dominga is you think.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You think that they're going to trade one of them
- 14:38Speaker 1: between now and the start of the season.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I do only because I don't think they're in on
- 14:43Speaker 4: the Zach Gowan frambur I'm forgetting another free agent pitcher
- 14:50Speaker 4: that's still available, but I don't think they're in that.
- 14:53Speaker 4: I don't think they're in that realm. I don't think
- 14:55Speaker 4: they're in there.
- 14:56Speaker 2: You think they're trying to acquire someone via trade.
- 15:00Speaker 4: I think I think it's gonna I think it's gonna
- 15:02Speaker 4: end up happening. I think they would love to sign
- 15:05Speaker 4: a Framber Valdez, but I don't know that they're necessarily
- 15:08Speaker 4: in on who Framber is or what he's what he's
- 15:13Speaker 4: bringing to the table. And I think that's where getting
- 15:16Speaker 4: Cody back helps, just make some guys possibly expendable.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Okay, last part of the puzzle here, and then we're
- 15:26Speaker 1: going to talk to Derek Lewandowski later on to bring
- 15:29Speaker 1: this conversation back up. Ryan in the chat where you
- 15:35Speaker 1: guys putting the Yankees power ranked in the division right now,
- 15:38Speaker 1: Belly's back. Let's remember the Yankees haven't done a ton.
- 15:41Speaker 1: This was the big spend so far. It hasn't been
- 15:43Speaker 1: a huge offseason for them. They bring a guy back,
- 15:47Speaker 1: they got Weathers the other day. They brought some others back,
- 15:50Speaker 1: like a Medrosario. But where do we have the Yankees
- 15:54Speaker 1: right now. They got bounced by the Blue Jays, so
- 15:57Speaker 1: they're below the Blue Jays. You've got them three who's
- 16:01Speaker 1: two right socks? Red socks for you too, Kratz. They
- 16:05Speaker 1: beat the Red Sox. Not that means anything now.
- 16:08Speaker 4: But most likely I haven't. I haven't fully committed yet.
- 16:13Speaker 4: I want to see the rest of the Orioles Orioles offseason.
- 16:17Speaker 4: I want to see them pick up that starting pitcher
- 16:20Speaker 4: that could help put them over the Red Sox put
- 16:24Speaker 4: the Yankees. I don't know the Red Sox are completely
- 16:28Speaker 4: done either. They need they need a little bit of lineup.
- 16:30Speaker 4: But I'm gonna say today Red Sox are second, blue
- 16:36Speaker 4: Jays are first. I just think the Yankees will have
- 16:39Speaker 4: a good team once everybody's back, but I think they're
- 16:42Speaker 4: gonna get too far behind early in the season not
- 16:45Speaker 4: having their horses in the starting rotation.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It finally happened, lou Bob is moving on. We had
- 16:57Speaker 1: heard the Mets in the reds forever. The Mets win,
- 16:59Speaker 1: they get Louise Robert and they pay the whole nothing salary. Well,
- 17:04Speaker 1: they pay the whole salary, and then they give up
- 17:06Speaker 1: Louis on Helocunya and last year's when is it twelve
- 17:10Speaker 1: round pick? Truman Pauli, Yeah, are you not excited? Are
- 17:16Speaker 1: you not entertained? Louisa and Helocunya is a major league player?
- 17:21Speaker 3: Is he? Though?
- 17:22Speaker 2: He had four home runs in a Venezuelan League game
- 17:24Speaker 2: the other day? Wow, nobody didn't stand.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Nobody cares cool either. I mean that's all His career
- 17:31Speaker 3: major league gops is six forty So am I supposed
- 17:34Speaker 3: to be excited about that? He just started his career
- 17:37Speaker 3: minor league go ps is seven fifty one.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Okay, good athlete, speed, multi position.
- 17:44Speaker 3: No, why the Mets want to give him up?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Maybe they don't believe in him?
- 17:47Speaker 3: Oh wow, that's weird. Okay. I mean, listen, here's my
- 17:51Speaker 3: thing with this whole tairy so not. You know, obviously,
- 17:54Speaker 3: as a white Sux fan, I'm happy that Louis Robert
- 17:58Speaker 3: is gone on this year's team because it twenty million.
- 18:00Speaker 3: It doesn't make a whole lot of sense when your
- 18:01Speaker 3: payroll is like eighty million to have one guy making
- 18:04Speaker 3: a quarter of it.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Yep.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Now their payroll is down in the sixties and they
- 18:09Speaker 3: were the Chris Guetz said that they're going to be
- 18:10Speaker 3: allowed to spend that twenty million, So why are you
- 18:13Speaker 3: going to stop releasing before the season and not pick
- 18:16Speaker 3: up the option, and then you have twenty million to
- 18:19Speaker 3: spend for the whole offseason instead of two weeks or
- 18:22Speaker 3: three weeks before spring training starts, when the free agent
- 18:24Speaker 3: market has already been picked through. Right now, Well, they
- 18:27Speaker 3: actually spend that twenty million, let's find out. I don't
- 18:30Speaker 3: know who, they'll go get a starter or reliever whoever
- 18:33Speaker 3: they want to, you know, an infield or an outfield
- 18:34Speaker 3: or whatever they think that they need. Now they have
- 18:37Speaker 3: twenty million dollars to spend, let's go see if they
- 18:39Speaker 3: use it right. But to me, this should have maybe traded,
- 18:42Speaker 3: maybe happened before after the twenty three season when he
- 18:45Speaker 3: was really good, because the last two years Luis Robert
- 18:47Speaker 3: Junior has not been very good.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Now you can't stay on the field.
- 18:50Speaker 3: You can't stay on the field. Now, the Mets, here's
- 18:51Speaker 3: what they're banking on. Free agent year, change the scenery,
- 18:56Speaker 3: maybe better players around him, depending on how you look
- 18:59Speaker 3: at it, which I think you can honestly say. And
- 19:01Speaker 3: he's gonna be motivated and they're gonna get a great year.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And they bought the Boris hype where Boris didn He
- 19:05Speaker 3: switched to Boris, and Boris was like, he's out here
- 19:07Speaker 3: working at the Scott Boris Academy and he's gonna he's
- 19:09Speaker 3: taking this and we fixed this.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I don't know the agency situation. Think you did right.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So he's shown flashes twenty three was.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Listen, he's shown flashes when he's healthy, but that he
- 19:18Speaker 3: never stays healthy. Yeah, and he strikes out a ton.
- 19:24Speaker 3: And when he's on the field, he's great, but he
- 19:25Speaker 3: strikes out a ton and he's the potential's there, right,
- 19:29Speaker 3: And now you look at that twenty twenty one White
- 19:32Speaker 3: Sox corps, they're all gone.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Oh.
- 19:35Speaker 3: The team that was supposed to lead them to the
- 19:37Speaker 3: multiple multiple parades is Rick Han once said we're gonna
- 19:41Speaker 3: have multiple parades. Well, they had a prooptiple parades getting
- 19:44Speaker 3: the fuck out of town.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Maybe he meant trade parade.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Oh that's what it was. Yeah, I don't know. Listen,
- 19:49Speaker 3: I'm happy he's gone as a White Sox fan just
- 19:51Speaker 3: because of twenty million dollars is nice. He wasn't good.
- 19:54Speaker 3: He wasn't gonna make or break them winning the division
- 19:56Speaker 3: this year.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I was actually about to go bury against you. And
- 19:59Speaker 1: then you made a point that made me retreat a bit.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I was going to say I criticized them for picking
- 20:06Speaker 1: up the option, but they ended up giving him to
- 20:09Speaker 1: the Mets, and they take on all of the money, right,
- 20:12Speaker 1: So I'm like, that's fine. They actually got some players
- 20:14Speaker 1: out of it. Your point, though, is valid. Now we
- 20:18Speaker 1: have twenty to spend, but we have a third of
- 20:21Speaker 1: the availability in terms of what's on her mark and
- 20:24Speaker 1: that probably maybe yeah, but they don't get to pick
- 20:28Speaker 1: wherever they want to pick.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So I get that.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Was it worth waiting for months and getting these two
- 20:34Speaker 1: players versus just not keeping him Krats and getting to
- 20:38Speaker 1: spend twenty million dollars or really twenty two It should
- 20:42Speaker 1: be twenty two to be fair, because there's a two
- 20:44Speaker 1: million dollar buyout, so if he doesn't get picked up
- 20:47Speaker 1: for twenty seven, it's twenty two million dollars for this
- 20:50Speaker 1: coming season. Kratz, was it worth waiting for Luisan Hilocunya
- 20:54Speaker 1: and Graham Paul, who's a later round draft pick from
- 20:58Speaker 1: last year that clearly they like, versus being able to
- 21:02Speaker 1: spend a good chunk of change on a player for
- 21:05Speaker 1: twenty twenty six that now is a much shorter list
- 21:08Speaker 1: of players available.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Oh wait, oh, we couldn't get anybody for the twenty
- 21:13Speaker 4: million because it's just not a lot of guys left. No,
- 21:16Speaker 4: they're they're not going to go get anybody. And to me,
- 21:20Speaker 4: like did they get I would say they came out ahead.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Did they come out franchised changing ahead?
- 21:29Speaker 2: No?
- 21:29Speaker 4: Was it worth the risk? It's like playing poker right now, like,
- 21:35Speaker 4: is it worth going all in when there's four dollars
- 21:37Speaker 4: in the pot? What if somebody actually has a better
- 21:41Speaker 4: hand than you? What if they got stuck with Luis Robert?
- 21:44Speaker 4: He clearly was not motivated in Chicago. He was clearly
- 21:49Speaker 4: coveted by teams or a team the Mets last year,
- 21:54Speaker 4: but they couldn't they couldn't agree on what that price
- 21:57Speaker 4: was gonna be. Now the Mets went and got Mark Simons,
- 22:00Speaker 4: so they don't need a depth piece in Luis Ahlcunya
- 22:06Speaker 4: and so, yes, they came out on top. To me,
- 22:09Speaker 4: the risk wasn't there. And no, if White Sox fans
- 22:12Speaker 4: are saying, oh, yeah, we're gonna spend that extra twenty million,
- 22:14Speaker 4: I have a hard time believing outside of a like
- 22:18Speaker 4: Zach Gallen for one year is not even gonna he's
- 22:21Speaker 4: not going to go there, but he's not going to
- 22:23Speaker 4: cost that much, like and is he No, he's going
- 22:27Speaker 4: to cost way more than that. He's going to get
- 22:30Speaker 4: the qualifying offer and the qualifying offers twenty two point
- 22:34Speaker 4: seven I think right now, Oh.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I thought you said he's gonna get less.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna cost more, but not necessarily per season.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I mean, he might cost twenty something mill for next year,
- 22:43Speaker 1: but you might have to add another year or two
- 22:45Speaker 1: and then give an opt out or not necessarily. I mean,
- 22:47Speaker 1: we haven't heard a lot with his market yet. We
- 22:49Speaker 1: all know the obvious Zach Gallen is going to be
- 22:51Speaker 1: playing on some type of contract that allows him to
- 22:53Speaker 1: go back into the market. That's a that's a definite.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I'm way against you guys here on two points one.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I do think the White Sacks are going to spend
- 23:01Speaker 1: some money between now and spring training. I think they're
- 23:03Speaker 1: going to go after someone what I.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Don't know who who we just talked about it.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Could it be Gallon, Could it be Lucas Giolito, Chris Bassett,
- 23:15Speaker 1: Guys that are on the market that are in the
- 23:16Speaker 1: quote mid tier starting pitching.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Okay, that twenty million dollars to get you one of
- 23:20Speaker 3: those guys.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Okay, but there you guys were saying, Oh, I don't
- 23:25Speaker 1: know if they're going to spend it. I think they're
- 23:26Speaker 1: going to spend it. I think they'll spend it home
- 23:28Speaker 1: pitching that they can then either flip into the deadline
- 23:30Speaker 1: or help I mean, at the very least of course
- 23:32Speaker 1: helps them in the first half. And then I do
- 23:35Speaker 1: want to make sure we hit the Mets side of
- 23:36Speaker 1: the equation here he does get a change of scenery.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Jonas wants to for the Mets. Listen to Mets. This
- 23:42Speaker 3: is like a no lose situation for me for the Mets,
- 23:44Speaker 3: because they get a guy that's going to be motivated.
- 23:46Speaker 3: It's the last year of his deal. He's gonna want
- 23:48Speaker 3: to hit the free agent market. He's gonna want to
- 23:51Speaker 3: really put up a good year in a new scenery,
- 23:54Speaker 3: a place where he goes from a team that has
- 23:56Speaker 3: lost one hundred games scers in a row to a
- 23:57Speaker 3: team that's trying to compete. He's got Lindor Baschett, Soto,
- 24:03Speaker 3: He's got some dudes around him. Now. I like this
- 24:06Speaker 3: move for the Mets. Listen twenty although if you read
- 24:09Speaker 3: this stuff. It's really gonna cost him more than twenty
- 24:11Speaker 3: because of the luxury tax and all that. Whatever. The
- 24:13Speaker 3: Mets don't care. Okay, but for the Mets this is
- 24:16Speaker 3: like a note, it's only a one year thing that
- 24:18Speaker 3: they don't like them. They're like, see a lubab we'll
- 24:21Speaker 3: see you next year somewhere else playing. But to me,
- 24:24Speaker 3: this is the Mets gave up nothing. Listen. They don't
- 24:27Speaker 3: care about Akunya. Sorry, he was in Triple A last year,
- 24:29Speaker 3: didn't do anything in the big leagues. Got a lot
- 24:31Speaker 3: of hype because he's, excuse me, Ronald Acunye's brother. But
- 24:35Speaker 3: if you even look at his numbers in the minor leagues,
- 24:36Speaker 3: they weren't outstanding. And then the picture that was it
- 24:41Speaker 3: Truman Pauli. He was a twelveth round pick last year. Yeah, right,
- 24:46Speaker 3: and look at his numbers. This ain't knocking anybody. But
- 24:50Speaker 3: he has a walk problem. If in college in seventy
- 24:53Speaker 3: innings you walk forty eight guys, you got a walk problem.
- 24:56Speaker 3: And then the year before he had forty one walks
- 24:58Speaker 3: in forty four innings. Right, it didn't go any better.
- 25:01Speaker 3: He pitched in the Kate got a bunch of h
- 25:03Speaker 3: had fifteen innings seven walks right here, you know, so
- 25:06Speaker 3: there's there's obviously a control problem mixed in there somewhere,
- 25:10Speaker 3: which maybe the White Sox think they can fix, right.
- 25:12Speaker 3: And he threw four innings this year in professional bait
- 25:16Speaker 3: four and a third, four walks, three strikeouts.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so they didn't give up anything.
- 25:21Speaker 3: No, And this was basically the White Sox wanted to
- 25:24Speaker 3: get rid of lou Bob and the Mets were like,
- 25:26Speaker 3: we'll take him for one year and see if we
- 25:27Speaker 3: can turn him into something special, and if it works out,
- 25:30Speaker 3: we'll sign him to a long term dealing. If it doesn't,
- 25:31Speaker 3: we say, Sayonara, and you hit the free agent trail.
- 25:34Speaker 1: And they're not going to pitch around him when he's
- 25:36Speaker 1: with the Mets crats. I mean, there's other guys for
- 25:39Speaker 1: pictures to circle on the scatting report before they start
- 25:42Speaker 1: the game. They're not gonna be like, guys, we can't
- 25:44Speaker 1: let lou Bob beat us. There was a time period
- 25:46Speaker 1: where it's like there's nothing else there.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Okay, so you put his thirty three stone bases in
- 25:53Speaker 4: the lineup right next to Juan Sota's forty like okay,
- 25:59Speaker 4: Like now, we're you know, now there's value there. The
- 26:03Speaker 4: biggest thing and the only way that this works out
- 26:06Speaker 4: like big time mega for the Mets is if they
- 26:10Speaker 4: figure out how to get some starting pitching, because doesn't
- 26:13Speaker 4: matter how many people on offense they add, they don't
- 26:16Speaker 4: get starting pitching, they're not going They're gonna do the
- 26:18Speaker 4: same thing they did last year. Can they unlock Luise
- 26:21Speaker 4: Robert Junior? Sure, I'm sure they can. You think the
- 26:25Speaker 4: White Sox weren't trying to unlock them, No, they were trying.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Maybe they didn't have the facilities, maybe they didn't have
- 26:32Speaker 4: the people that were able to like connect with them,
- 26:36Speaker 4: or maybe it's just gonna be a free agent year
- 26:38Speaker 4: for Luise Robert Junior, and he's gonna say, I'm staying
- 26:42Speaker 4: on the field. This guy since I saw him come
- 26:45Speaker 4: up to Triple A. We were there when he got
- 26:46Speaker 4: called up to Charlotte. I think he hit like five
- 26:50Speaker 4: or six home runs in the series. I mean it
- 26:51Speaker 4: was everywhere you were like, what is this guy just
- 26:54Speaker 4: the same as Joann Mancata when he first got called
- 26:57Speaker 4: up and I saw him in Triple A, just the
- 26:59Speaker 4: same Eloy Jimenez. Something happened to all those guys that
- 27:03Speaker 4: had supreme, supreme ceilings and none of them panned out.
- 27:09Speaker 4: I don't care what you say about Luise Roberts. One
- 27:11Speaker 4: season it did. His career has not panned out yet.
- 27:14Speaker 4: How do they unlock Luis Robert that the Mets do it?
- 27:18Speaker 4: They figure it out. This isn't mega signing and it
- 27:22Speaker 4: will be huge cash for Luis Robert Junior in free
- 27:25Speaker 4: agency next year.
- 27:27Speaker 1: So let me read the lineup that Van Grafts has
- 27:31Speaker 1: projected against Righty's and sure there might be a trade
- 27:34Speaker 1: still for the Mets, and we all know they need pitching.
- 27:37Speaker 2: They're going to go after pitching.
- 27:39Speaker 1: At this point, they need at least another starter Lindor leadoff,
- 27:42Speaker 1: Soto two, Bashett three, Polanco four, Semi and five, Brett
- 27:49Speaker 1: Beaty six, Francisco Abare seven. They've got Louise Robert eight,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and Carson Benge is their top prospect in the ninth spot.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Fine, that's not bad.
- 27:57Speaker 1: It's a pretty good lineup that can contend that, no doubt.
- 28:02Speaker 2: But here's all I agree with.
- 28:03Speaker 3: That, and people in the chat, I want to say
- 28:05Speaker 3: this also, Luis Robert Jr. If he was traded and
- 28:10Speaker 3: Acunya turns into something and Paulie turns into something, and
- 28:13Speaker 3: they spend the twenty million dollars like they said they're
- 28:15Speaker 3: going to and they get some decent trades. If they
- 28:19Speaker 3: those guys whoever they signed for those and they can
- 28:21Speaker 3: trade them, then I'll applaud this trade from the White
- 28:24Speaker 3: Sox side. But to me, they could have just released
- 28:26Speaker 3: him in the off season, got nothing, traded him a
- 28:28Speaker 3: year ago or two years ago, and probably gotten more
- 28:31Speaker 3: because two years ago after especially after twenty three, they
- 28:34Speaker 3: knew they weren't going to be any good and twenty
- 28:35Speaker 3: four they could have traded away and got a haul,
- 28:38Speaker 3: and they and they held on to him because they
- 28:41Speaker 3: were afraid he might turn into something. Well, now they
- 28:42Speaker 3: trade him away, and imagine if he hits thirty and
- 28:45Speaker 3: steal he goes thirty to thirty for the Mets this
- 28:47Speaker 3: year and stays on the field.
- 28:49Speaker 2: But he had to get out of there.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I agree. That's why I say for the Mets, this
- 28:53Speaker 3: is a no brainer trade. Yeah yeah, yeah, Well we'll
- 28:56Speaker 3: give you our fortieth best prospect and a guy who's
- 28:59Speaker 3: not going to see the field for us. Good luck.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Where's he gonna play for the White Sox Acuona. You
- 29:03Speaker 3: tell me, you know that's I want to know. He's
- 29:06Speaker 3: not playing third, Vargas not playing short. Colson Montgomery. My
- 29:09Speaker 3: draw's gonna be second. You got so so probably at first. Okay,
- 29:13Speaker 3: where's he play? Where's the bats coming?
- 29:17Speaker 4: They traded for a utility guy. That's it.
- 29:21Speaker 2: They got him in center field.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It's not he's gonna play it's not agent he's gonna
- 29:25Speaker 3: play center field.
- 29:26Speaker 2: They've got him in centerfield. He's fast as hell.
- 29:28Speaker 3: I know he's fast as hell.
- 29:29Speaker 2: But that might be the spot for him. You don't
- 29:32Speaker 2: have to have as much of a bat. I mean, it's.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Hard to be able to hit a little bit to
- 29:35Speaker 3: play center field.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I know, but he might be able to hit a
- 29:37Speaker 1: little bit. Give him a little bit of chance. He's
- 29:39Speaker 1: only twenty three, Okay, give give him a little bit
- 29:42Speaker 1: of it.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Said he.
- 29:42Speaker 3: If Acona turns into something and they spend the twenty
- 29:45Speaker 3: million and the Pauly guy, then listen, this is a
- 29:47Speaker 3: great trade for the White Sox. They've got it can be,
- 29:51Speaker 3: but I got it. I'm gonna have to see all
- 29:52Speaker 3: the That's a lot of ifs and butts, and we
- 29:54Speaker 3: know about if some fifths and Butts. You know, we
- 29:56Speaker 3: don't know all about that.
- 29:58Speaker 1: If there's a place for him to go, right, it
- 30:00Speaker 1: would be a team like the White Sox. The Mets
- 30:02Speaker 1: did not have space for him, like you mentioned with
- 30:04Speaker 1: the White Sox. Right now, this is their starting outfield
- 30:06Speaker 1: against Writers. According to fangrafts, they've got Brooks Baldwin and right,
- 30:10Speaker 1: Andrew ben and Tendi who has had severe injury issues
- 30:13Speaker 1: right in left, and Luis Anhell Acunya in center, and
- 30:17Speaker 1: even just looking around the diamond, Acunya has developed as
- 30:20Speaker 1: a utility player, so you can play a number of positions.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Somebody gets hurt in the infield, Acuna can jump in
- 30:25Speaker 1: there as well. So he's a utility guy. You picked
- 30:28Speaker 1: up a utility guy who's making league minimum. You can
- 30:40Speaker 1: be sick and tired of hearing about it, so are we,
- 30:43Speaker 1: But the stories just keep on coming. Evan Drelik reports
- 30:47Speaker 1: for The Athletic, and a source who is in on
- 30:50Speaker 1: conversations that ownership groups have, which my guess is that
- 30:54Speaker 1: they're in on the owners meetings, said they are enraged
- 30:59Speaker 1: about Kyle Tucker deal. It is one certainty they're pushing
- 31:03Speaker 1: for a cap no matter what it takes see pushing
- 31:06Speaker 1: for a cap. That's whatever. That's what this tweet says.
- 31:10Speaker 1: But if you actually look at the story, there it is.
- 31:13Speaker 1: There's the quote, They're going for a cap no matter
- 31:16Speaker 1: what it takes. Now, I felt like that was the
- 31:18Speaker 1: case for the most part anyway, the psychology, he's not
- 31:22Speaker 1: going for a cap. The Dodgers, Met and the Metal.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 31:29Speaker 2: This story said.
- 31:30Speaker 3: That every owner is unified.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's always this story thinks that there's only
- 31:35Speaker 1: two for sure, Mets and Dodgers, and that some of
- 31:38Speaker 1: the other teams still would be down for a cap.
- 31:40Speaker 1: This brings cost certainty, so every franchise value soars through
- 31:44Speaker 1: the roof once you get a cap. That's a fact, okay,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and at least half the league is.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Interested, said Dick Monford, where the Rockies has already come
- 31:53Speaker 3: out and pretty much said it.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Yes, there's also probably five ownership groups that are going
- 31:58Speaker 1: to sell their team if they get the app within
- 32:01Speaker 1: two years. It immediately gives them an extra like a
- 32:03Speaker 1: couple hundred million dollars. The team that stands out the most,
- 32:06Speaker 1: of course, it's a lock. The Twins will.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Sell as soon as if they get a cap.
- 32:10Speaker 1: They are selling as soon as possible because they're looking
- 32:12Speaker 1: for an extra two hundred million dollars and they're like, sure,
- 32:15Speaker 1: we'll take the hit and wait two years to get
- 32:17Speaker 1: a cap for two hundred million dollars. Oruld you wait
- 32:19Speaker 1: two years for two hundred mill I think almost anybody
- 32:21Speaker 1: on the planet would so them. Plus there's a number
- 32:24Speaker 1: of others that I think will be sold if that happens, Nationals, Angels,
- 32:29Speaker 1: we can go through a whole list there, Okay, White
- 32:31Speaker 1: Sox White Right, they're already on the pathway to sell that.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I think the a's will be sold years. Yeah, so
- 32:38Speaker 1: there are a lot of teams. Actually, it says that
- 32:40Speaker 1: in the article. It says the next ownership meeting, which
- 32:44Speaker 1: I think occur in about a month, will go over
- 32:46Speaker 1: what they want to throw out there, what their ideal
- 32:48Speaker 1: scenario is, not just with the cap, but with the floor.
- 32:50Speaker 1: That would be a guarantee if they ended up pulling
- 32:52Speaker 1: it off. I still don't think this is going to happen,
- 32:54Speaker 1: But if they do pull that off, it's going to
- 32:56Speaker 1: be a battle inside that room because the big market
- 33:00Speaker 1: teams are sick of sharing with the small market teams.
- 33:02Speaker 1: The small market teams. They are many of them are
- 33:04Speaker 1: pocketing money.
- 33:04Speaker 2: It's a fact. So in the article from Evan, it.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Says if the floor is too high, it actually puts
- 33:11Speaker 1: many of the teams.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Like the Pirates, in a tough spot.
- 33:14Speaker 1: They would actually make much less money than they do now. Right,
- 33:17Speaker 1: If you're forcing them to spend but you're not giving
- 33:19Speaker 1: them much revenue sharing, then it actually would put them
- 33:21Speaker 1: in a tougher spot and maybe that leads to a sale,
- 33:24Speaker 1: which would be a bonus for Pirates fans.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Interesting, right, Just wake me up when it's over. Please
- 33:32Speaker 3: wake me up when this is all over. I mean,
- 33:34Speaker 3: this is going to dominate the headlines for the next
- 33:37Speaker 3: what eleven months, ten months until that December first, and
- 33:39Speaker 3: then after they lock them out, they'll blame the players
- 33:42Speaker 3: and say the players are too greedy, but in reality,
- 33:47Speaker 3: the owners will make more money if they get a
- 33:49Speaker 3: salary cap, right, so they can say that it's the players,
- 33:51Speaker 3: it's the players as the players, but at the end
- 33:54Speaker 3: of the day, it's the owners that are the greedy ones,
- 33:56Speaker 3: because they're the ones that are going to make more
- 33:57Speaker 3: money off of this. From the way that I've kind
- 34:01Speaker 3: of looked at this, now, I could be off, and
- 34:03Speaker 3: that's fine. Now listen to Am I a player and
- 34:05Speaker 3: do I want the players to get every dollar?
- 34:07Speaker 4: Duh?
- 34:08Speaker 3: Yes, of course I do. I just don't understand, Okay,
- 34:12Speaker 3: I get the floor thing. Okay, but you have to
- 34:16Speaker 3: understand that when a owner goes into a season and
- 34:19Speaker 3: let's say baseball in twenty twenty seven makes I'm gonna
- 34:26Speaker 3: use arbitrary numbers four billion dollars or easy man, Okay.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Way more.
- 34:30Speaker 3: You should say, I'm just this is just okay, we'll
- 34:32Speaker 3: go ten billion. Okay. Let's say they make ten billion
- 34:34Speaker 3: in twenty twenty seven. Okay, they signed this new deal
- 34:37Speaker 3: where it's supposed to be fifty to fifty. Okay, well, then,
- 34:41Speaker 3: so the players are supposed to get five billion. The
- 34:43Speaker 3: owners are supposed to get five billion.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Right, does that include real estate?
- 34:47Speaker 3: No, because it's something. No, that's a different thing, doesn't it.
- 34:51Speaker 3: You know, it's we only get the five billion to
- 34:53Speaker 3: go into whatever company that we are using as the
- 34:57Speaker 3: actual team, not the sales, not the tickets, not the
- 35:01Speaker 3: real estate. However, they break it up into their little shells. Okay,
- 35:05Speaker 3: and the players only get their five million, five billion,
- 35:08Speaker 3: excuse me? Okay, So that means there has to be
- 35:10Speaker 3: a guaranteed five billion dollars in salary spread throughout the
- 35:13Speaker 3: entire league, right, sure, what has you know the floor
- 35:17Speaker 3: has to cover that? Well, then the next year the
- 35:18Speaker 3: revenue goes to twelve billion. Does the CBA have a
- 35:22Speaker 3: built in escalator like there's so many? Well it will,
- 35:25Speaker 3: But then why okay, so if this is a perfect system, yeah,
- 35:28Speaker 3: why does the NBA striking going in NFL have gone
- 35:32Speaker 3: on strikes and lockouts? If they are all cap systems,
- 35:36Speaker 3: NHL same thing, they all have gone on strike. If
- 35:40Speaker 3: this is such a perfect system, why are there still
- 35:41Speaker 3: labor disputes?
- 35:42Speaker 2: I'll continue to say this.
- 35:43Speaker 1: It just has to do with actually revenue sharing and
- 35:45Speaker 1: making the teams actually spend the revenue share.
- 35:48Speaker 3: And you ask, so that's hey, you don't get the
- 35:49Speaker 3: full hooks opened because I don't care what they say there,
- 35:53Speaker 3: trust me, they are the owners are smart about this.
- 35:55Speaker 3: They've been doing this for a long time. Ah, we're
- 35:57Speaker 3: losing money. Well, the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise is losing money,
- 36:01Speaker 3: but not on tick, not on parking, and not on
- 36:03Speaker 3: ad sales, and not on concessions, because that's not considered
- 36:06Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Pirates. That's Pittsburgh Pirates Concessions. That's owned by the
- 36:11Speaker 3: same people. But not that what the team is listening under, right,
- 36:16Speaker 3: And again I'm just using the Pirates as I don't
- 36:18Speaker 3: know that.
- 36:18Speaker 2: You're just putting it in vacuum. But yeah, it's hotels.
- 36:20Speaker 3: It's think about the Braves. The Braves actually have to
- 36:23Speaker 3: open their books.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Now.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I don't know what the Atlanta Braves if that counts
- 36:27Speaker 3: all the battery money they make, but they made what
- 36:30Speaker 3: twenty five million or something last year and they had
- 36:32Speaker 3: a battery.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well we can see it all. They're profiting, They're
- 36:36Speaker 1: crushing it.
- 36:37Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 36:37Speaker 1: It's a good example of how teams are doing. And
- 36:40Speaker 1: they're profiting with the team and with the outside investments.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Like about the battery, the whole battery.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Yeah, last word, crats.
- 36:47Speaker 4: I don't have one thing. The source said, these guys
- 36:50Speaker 4: are going to go for a cap no matter what
- 36:52Speaker 4: it takes. That's the part that's rarely talked about. Players
- 36:56Speaker 4: don't care about a floor. Like a cap system, you
- 36:59Speaker 4: have to have a floor. Great, the players aren't negotiating
- 37:02Speaker 4: the floor. What are the owners going to give up?
- 37:05Speaker 4: Are they willing to go to a cap and say
- 37:08Speaker 4: four years you've become a free agent? Where's that line?
- 37:13Speaker 4: What are they looking to give up? Owners hate free agency?
- 37:16Speaker 4: That was the original argument was no, we don't want
- 37:20Speaker 4: free agency. Players said yes, we need it. Kurt Flood
- 37:25Speaker 4: different guys that held out, that created the system that
- 37:28Speaker 4: we have. Now, what are they willing to give up? All?
- 37:32Speaker 4: You hear every owner complaining this is unfair. Fans are like, unfair, unfair, unfair. Well,
- 37:37Speaker 4: what happens if that star is gone now at twenty
- 37:39Speaker 4: four years old? When he made his debut at twenty Like,
- 37:43Speaker 4: are they willing to give that part of it up?
- 37:45Speaker 4: Because no matter what it takes, there's going to be
- 37:49Speaker 4: a monstrous, monstrous concession on the owner's side.
- 37:53Speaker 1: And if your capped on what you can make, guess
- 37:55Speaker 1: where most players are going to go once they're in
- 37:57Speaker 1: their mid twenties. A big market to have super teams
- 38:01Speaker 1: and make more on marketing dollars.
- 38:03Speaker 3: What or like what's happening in the NHL. They're going
- 38:06Speaker 3: to Florida, They're going to Vegas, and they're going to
- 38:09Speaker 3: Texas because they know state income so they make more money.
- 38:13Speaker 3: I mean That's one of the everyone's talking about in
- 38:14Speaker 3: the NHL. Why do you think the Panthers and the
- 38:17Speaker 3: Lightning are winning every Stanley Cup and people in the
- 38:19Speaker 3: NHL will talk about it. It's because there's no state
- 38:21Speaker 3: income tax Vegas one one, right, because there's no state
- 38:25Speaker 3: income tax. So players are like, well, if I can
- 38:26Speaker 3: only make ten million and I can save ten percent
- 38:29Speaker 3: by living in Florida, I'm going to play for them.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Hell yeah for unless you know, for the same amount
- 38:34Speaker 3: of money.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Marlon's and Rais are about to be good. Let's go.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Marlin's and Raised are gonna maybe a destination.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Yeah maybe maybe We'll say, okay, just a minute here
- 38:56Speaker 1: to get to the Hall of Fame. So you had
- 38:59Speaker 1: two center fielders born a day apart, by the way,
- 39:01Speaker 1: and we talked about at the top and Andrew Jones
- 39:03Speaker 1: and Carlos Beltron getting in. The only other center fielders
- 39:06Speaker 1: that have been elected since nineteen eighty one, Ken Griffy
- 39:10Speaker 1: and Kirby Puckett. That is fucking crazy to ignore a
- 39:14Speaker 1: position like that for that long. You've got to be
- 39:17Speaker 1: kidding the age. I already did his thing yesterday on
- 39:19Speaker 1: Tory Hunter. But there are other names too.
- 39:21Speaker 2: We talked about the.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Show Kenny lofton there's a lot of.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Go Bernie Williams should get some more letter Williams.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's become Listen, this is my soapbox, and
- 39:31Speaker 3: it's become a popular It always has been a popularity contest,
- 39:35Speaker 3: but now it's even more of a popularity contest when
- 39:37Speaker 3: you start comparing numbers, which is fine, I get it.
- 39:40Speaker 3: But as long as you go into and say it's
- 39:41Speaker 3: a popularity contest, much like for years ago, Glove was
- 39:44Speaker 3: a popularity contest, right, certain awards were popular Star all
- 39:48Speaker 3: Star games are one hundred percent, especially when the players
- 39:51Speaker 3: started voting on him, it's one hundred percent of popularity content.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Oh that's my boy. I played with him, I liked him.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Let's go for him. He's having a decent start to
- 39:58Speaker 3: the season, right, all that stuff. All as long as
- 40:00Speaker 3: we understand that it's a popularity contest, that's fine. But
- 40:06Speaker 3: with the numbers that we used to count on being
- 40:09Speaker 3: the numbers to get you in are not there anymore
- 40:11Speaker 3: because of the length of contracts and guys playing not
- 40:15Speaker 3: as long and all that like three hundred wins, three
- 40:17Speaker 3: thousand hits, all that stuff, it's kind of gone by
- 40:20Speaker 3: the wayside. Now it's opening it up to more players.
- 40:23Speaker 3: And what causes it is then when these certain players
- 40:25Speaker 3: get in, then you have to go back and look
- 40:27Speaker 3: at other players and say, dang, he was just as good.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Why isn't he in? Right, So it may opens it
- 40:34Speaker 3: up to a broader conversation, which is fine, it's just
- 40:38Speaker 3: as a different conversation. Then. It used to be like
- 40:41Speaker 3: I used to watch a guy and be like, that
- 40:44Speaker 3: dude's a Hall of Fame. I played against Griffey Albert Poohols, right, Like,
- 40:48Speaker 3: those dudes are Hall of famers. When it gets to
- 40:52Speaker 3: and I look at him like, yeah, he's in the
- 40:54Speaker 3: Hall of Fame. Not saying anybody this year or any
- 40:59Speaker 3: other year. I'm just saying there are times where you're
- 41:02Speaker 3: like and then when they don't. You know what. The
- 41:03Speaker 3: other thing I don't understand is if you don't get
- 41:05Speaker 3: if you get a certain amount of your first year
- 41:08Speaker 3: and then what do you get? Your numbers don't get
- 41:10Speaker 3: better ten years later.
- 41:12Speaker 2: That's always a thing.
- 41:12Speaker 3: It's like, again, I'm happy Carlos belt you and get in.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I'm very happy both of them. And Andrew Jones, you
- 41:19Speaker 3: and I know them both. I played with Andrew, I
- 41:21Speaker 3: played against Carlos for a long time. I am very
- 41:24Speaker 3: astatic that they got in. But then when you look
- 41:26Speaker 3: at and you know, you read articles about next year,
- 41:29Speaker 3: who's going to get in? Buster Posey's first year, he's
- 41:31Speaker 3: more likely going to get in. But then Chase Uttley
- 41:33Speaker 3: and you start digging in the numbers, Well, why did
- 41:36Speaker 3: Jeff kent not get in? Jeff Ki's numbers blow Chase
- 41:39Speaker 3: Dentley's out the water, right, But he didn't get in
- 41:41Speaker 3: until the Veterans Committee voted him in. Why because of
- 41:44Speaker 3: popularity the media didn't love him. Correct, it's it's just
- 41:47Speaker 3: the way it is. And as long as we accept that,
- 41:49Speaker 3: we can have a conversation about.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Chase out Lee went from thirty nine point eight percent
- 41:53Speaker 1: last year to fifty nine point one percent this year.
- 41:55Speaker 1: He's going to get in very soon, if not next year,
- 41:57Speaker 1: the year after Felix Hernandez had a twenty six percent spike.
- 42:00Speaker 1: He's going to get in at some point over the
- 42:02Speaker 1: next few years. Then you look back, how does Felix
- 42:05Speaker 1: Hernandez get in? And we don't give more love to
- 42:07Speaker 1: Johan Santana, right, Johan Santana was freaking dominant. I mean,
- 42:11Speaker 1: so is Felix. But I'm like, those guys have good
- 42:14Speaker 1: comps in there. Even Bobby A Brave.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Actually shot up.
- 42:18Speaker 3: And tell me how the heck he's not in.
- 42:20Speaker 2: I have no idea how Posidon.
- 42:21Speaker 3: I think he was only on the ballot for one
- 42:23Speaker 3: year and got kicked off.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Well, that's part of the problem, is the five percent
- 42:25Speaker 1: thing is kicking people off. Pedroia went up from eleven
- 42:28Speaker 1: to about twenty one percent. Cole Hamil's first year on
- 42:30Speaker 1: the ballot twenty four percent. He's going to get in.
- 42:33Speaker 1: These guys are going to get in.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Then I go back and people just say teammate Cole
- 42:36Speaker 3: Hamil's Mark Burley. Mark. Cole Hamils has like one hundred
- 42:39Speaker 3: and sixty win Mark Burley has two hundred.
- 42:41Speaker 4: And some wins. It's all.
- 42:43Speaker 3: There's other categories, I understand, But if you look at
- 42:45Speaker 3: their numbers, you stack them up there, you can make
- 42:48Speaker 3: an argument one or the other and say you throw
- 42:50Speaker 3: Andy Pettit in there. Right, they're all like the three
- 42:53Speaker 3: of them are like almost equal, right, But Cole Hamil's
- 42:56Speaker 3: gut is going coming on later, so now he's got
- 42:58Speaker 3: more time where's Andy Pett's kind of get to the
- 43:00Speaker 3: end or Burley's kind of starting to get to the
- 43:01Speaker 3: end now, right, and their numbers haven't jumped enough. I
- 43:04Speaker 3: have agree we need to get to may Day. We
- 43:08Speaker 3: could do forty hours on this.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I agree.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Besides the popularity, I think that there was a time
- 43:13Speaker 1: period where the ballots were clocked. There was all this
- 43:15Speaker 1: steroid era of stuff going on, and actually those you know,
- 43:17Speaker 1: most of those guys didn't get in right, the big
- 43:19Speaker 1: names that we've talked about.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Like Bombs and Clemens.
- 43:21Speaker 1: And then I think, now there's a market correction going on, krats,
- 43:24Speaker 1: you gotta boat some guys in. They're not hitting those
- 43:27Speaker 1: counting stats that you want to hit. So then you
- 43:29Speaker 1: start comparing some of these guys that are getting love
- 43:31Speaker 1: now and you look back to guys from ten to
- 43:33Speaker 1: fifteen years before, and you're like, wait, the comps match
- 43:37Speaker 1: up here, So maybe the Veterans Committee will clean that
- 43:39Speaker 1: up on.
- 43:39Speaker 2: The back end.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it's tough, and there's always going to because you
- 43:43Speaker 4: take that next level of guys, that next layer of guys,
- 43:45Speaker 4: and then there's the next layer of guys that are close.
- 43:49Speaker 4: It's it's great, it's a great combo. I love it.
- 43:52Speaker 1: It is good debate, krats ats and then we're getting out.
- 43:56Speaker 4: I mean, DJ came on. I think a sneaky team team.
- 44:00Speaker 4: I can't wait till we get to there over under
- 44:02Speaker 4: on Winds, you know, with that good of a pitching staff.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Just watch them, just watch they might be pretty.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Dece I can't believe that we did Monday show with
- 44:12Speaker 1: me out and we talked about the LA extension and
- 44:14Speaker 1: I couldn't defend him. But whatever, we'll talk about it
- 44:17Speaker 1: again at some point. Trevor may may Day Live on FT.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Right now, let's get out of here. Yeah, there we go,
- 44:25Speaker 1: three o'clock Eastern. Oh wait, that's already on, so check
- 44:29Speaker 1: it out part of the FT Network. Trevor's on for
- 44:31Speaker 1: the next hour. Give him some love, Stay here for
- 44:34Speaker 1: more baseball talk. I'm sure he'll talk about Gody's contract
- 44:37Speaker 1: and a lot more. Tomorrow. Brent Rooker is back on
- 44:42Speaker 1: the show, looking forward.
- 44:43Speaker 3: To another guy from Mississippi. By the way, just way,
- 44:45Speaker 3: I went to Misssippi State
- 44:46Speaker 2: Just saying, sip the sit they can hit
