- 1:45Speaker 3: mid on radio a whole lot. Usually I feel like
- 1:47Speaker 3: I'm on the radio all the time, and so it's

- 1:57Speaker 4: but I know those two red buttons being were on the.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Everywhere on right. Did you have to tell Dave that
- 2:02Speaker 3: last week? Just make sure those buttons are one. Appreciate
- 2:05Speaker 3: Dave weekly filling in for for me last week and
- 2:07Speaker 3: sitting in with John and and they've done a show

- 2:35Speaker 3: first year. We'll have our our old the number that
- 2:37Speaker 3: we've had for like one hundred years back, the fifty
- 2:39Speaker 3: eight fifty eight line. That number works. It just doesn't

- 2:47Speaker 3: I'll give you the tour of the place and you'll
- 2:48Speaker 3: see how you'll see how it works. Over here you
- 2:51Speaker 3: can find out more about Fourth Avenue Financial one line.

- 3:04Speaker 3: can find it there as well. You like the page.
- 3:06Speaker 3: John has things that are coming up with the business,
- 3:08Speaker 3: including we're still going to do some of the Saturday
- 3:11Speaker 3: meetings coming up after the first of the year, right.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yes, we are. It'll it'll be uh, I'm guessing because
- 3:16Speaker 4: I'm going out of town early January, so so mid
- 3:19Speaker 4: January we'll be looking at having the first one and
- 3:21Speaker 4: we'll announce that on Facebook so you can find out
- 3:24Speaker 4: information about it. But it'll be down at on D
- 3:27Speaker 4: Street in South Charleston and my wife's Vintage and Vines
- 3:30Speaker 4: Mercantile and we have a meeting room up there and
- 3:34Speaker 4: little coffee and doughnuts and and a good conversation.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'm looking forward to that, So we'll keep you informed
- 3:40Speaker 3: when John gets a date for that and everything. But
- 3:43Speaker 3: you could keep an ear out for that and also
- 3:45Speaker 3: an eye out for it if you go to Facebook,
- 3:46Speaker 3: like the page of their fourth Avenue Financial dot com
- 3:48Speaker 3: call us this morning three zerre four, three, four, two, eight,
- 3:50Speaker 3: one three one or text threes are four nine, three, five,
- 3:52Speaker 3: five zeros or eight. So I feel like there's a
- 3:54Speaker 3: lot of ground that you probably covered with Dave and
- 3:56Speaker 3: Dave while I was gone but still catching up things
- 4:00Speaker 3: post election, getting ready to get into the new year.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I'm not as doubt into a lot of this stuff
- 4:05Speaker 3: as what I have been recently.
- 4:08Speaker 4: The markets has, you know, had a little reference cause right, yeah, yes,
- 4:12Speaker 4: I mean we've we've essentially the election is over, Euphoria
- 4:16Speaker 4: has has faded, and we're back into uh, just looking
- 4:22Speaker 4: at earnings and looking at interest rates and and that
- 4:24Speaker 4: sort of thing.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Was the Fed announcement that they're anticipating two cuts only
- 4:28Speaker 3: next year a little bit of a surprise, or.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I don't think. I don't think it was so much
- 4:32Speaker 4: a surprise, but it is a change that the market anticipated,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and and I think that is. You know, for the
- 4:40Speaker 4: last month or so that that's what's been somewhat weighing
- 4:44Speaker 4: on the market. Those expectations have definitely shifted. That's changed
- 4:48Speaker 4: the interest rates and the bond market a little bit.
- 4:51Speaker 4: And you know, we're still looking for lower rates next year.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Just the pace is going to be much much slower
- 4:58Speaker 4: than people. Well I thought that they might be, you know,
- 5:02Speaker 4: six months ago, for.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Instance, right right, I this from doing this show, this
- 5:07Speaker 3: is and and uh, I can I can do simple
- 5:09Speaker 3: parlor tricks. And so I was talking to my wife
- 5:12Speaker 3: on the morning after the FED the FED met, and
- 5:15Speaker 3: she just kind of I guess she was reading the
- 5:16Speaker 3: news or something. She was like, oh, they're they're cutting
- 5:18Speaker 3: interest rates. They're announcing they're cutting two interest rate or
- 5:21Speaker 3: interest rates twice next year. And they cut it, uh
- 5:24Speaker 3: twenty five dayss points this time. I was like, ooh,
- 5:25Speaker 3: is that all that? That's nowhere, that's not above what
- 5:28Speaker 3: the expectation was. I bet the market goes down a
- 5:29Speaker 3: little bit today. She was like what. And I'm like,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I don't know. I think the market might cout today.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It did later in the day. She was like, how
- 5:37Speaker 3: did you know. I'm like, it's It's like there was
- 5:39Speaker 3: the anticipation was bathed in. There was no good news there,
- 5:42Speaker 3: so people there was going to be either a flat
- 5:43Speaker 3: day or down day, I think. And so one time
- 5:46Speaker 3: out of a million, she was like, wow, you actually
- 5:49Speaker 3: learned something on your show.
- 5:50Speaker 4: And then she was like, what how did you invest
- 5:53Speaker 4: in that?
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 5:53Speaker 3: I was like, I I didn't. I invested in telling
- 5:55Speaker 3: you about it. And you don't want to chase that
- 5:59Speaker 3: kind of thing anyway, of course, But it's I just
- 6:02Speaker 3: it was interesting when I when because we've talked about
- 6:04Speaker 3: it on the shows, like, well, that's not you know, uh,
- 6:07Speaker 3: that's not the outpacing expectations. That's uh if that's right
- 6:10Speaker 3: in the pocket at best.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Well, and inflation is proven a little sticky here lately too.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I mean it's it's way down from where where it was,
- 6:19Speaker 4: but the rate is still inflated a little bit. And uh,
- 6:23Speaker 4: it's interesting. We had talked about the sticky part of
- 6:26Speaker 4: inflation being housing. Well, housing is finally starting to fall,
- 6:30Speaker 4: but now some of the consumer sections, consumer sections of
- 6:34Speaker 4: that that inflation number are coming in a little hot,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and and you know that is uh, I mean not
- 6:43Speaker 4: anything to be overly concerned about but it's certainly something
- 6:46Speaker 4: that has tempered the interest rate expectations quite a bit.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I know that it's still a uh, it's such a
- 6:54Speaker 3: Now that the election is over, I feel like that
- 6:55Speaker 3: we can talk about this and and people won't try
- 6:58Speaker 3: to to off skate it with their own overlay of
- 7:01Speaker 3: what the politics should be. But it is still pretty
- 7:04Speaker 3: amazing to me that after all this time, that around
- 7:07Speaker 3: Christmas time, election's over already, so there's no real reason
- 7:09Speaker 3: to like lean into crazy narratives or anything else. People
- 7:12Speaker 3: talking about the economy and everything else is like, well,
- 7:15Speaker 3: the price of a Christmas dinner is actually six dollars
- 7:18Speaker 3: cheaper than it was last year, so the economy, everybody's
- 7:20Speaker 3: doing great. Man. Although the sentiment has improved since the election,
- 7:25Speaker 3: just because of the magic of elections, there still is
- 7:28Speaker 3: a very tone deaf assessment that people are making. It's like, oh,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you know, groceries are six dollars cheaper than what they
- 7:33Speaker 3: were last year, so everything's great again. Well, that's not
- 7:35Speaker 3: exactly how things work in the minds of the way
- 7:37Speaker 3: people anticipate these things.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Right, and of course sometimes too the economy, the perception
- 7:43Speaker 4: can become reality though too right, exactly. So if there
- 7:48Speaker 4: was a survey out about small business optimism and it's
- 7:55Speaker 4: spiked incredibly high since the election, it's amazing. So you know, now,
- 8:02Speaker 4: well that play out? I don't know, but if everyone
- 8:05Speaker 4: is optimistic, maybe they invest or expand or hire people
- 8:09Speaker 4: or you know, you know, you know, you're more likely
- 8:12Speaker 4: to do those things if you're optimistic, and so some
- 8:16Speaker 4: kind of sometimes it's self fulfilling.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Another interesting part of that discussion is when and I
- 8:21Speaker 3: know this because of the show that we've done and
- 8:23Speaker 3: we've had to follow these things along for a long time,
- 8:25Speaker 3: what the government considers small businesses I think is largely
- 8:28Speaker 3: different than what the average person on the street considers
- 8:31Speaker 3: a small business. So when they hear that small business
- 8:33Speaker 3: sentiment is up, they don't necessarily mean kinship goods down
- 8:36Speaker 3: the street is who they surveyed, and that's who, and
- 8:39Speaker 3: that's who sentiment is up from. It might be. I'm
- 8:40Speaker 3: not saying it's not. I'm just saying that small businesses
- 8:43Speaker 3: to the average person is still a relatively large company
- 8:45Speaker 3: A lot of the time.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I mean there are all kinds of
- 8:48Speaker 4: what I've what I consider large businesses that are private
- 8:52Speaker 4: privately owned hundreds of employees. You know, that's still a
- 8:55Speaker 4: small business now.
- 8:56Speaker 3: WVRC Media for example, Yeah, we're we were fairly large,
- 8:59Speaker 3: but we're a considered a small business and and uh
- 9:02Speaker 3: in a lot of areas anyway. I just think that
- 9:04Speaker 3: it's interesting the way that these uh, that these things
- 9:06Speaker 3: that have played out over time, and we see like
- 9:09Speaker 3: these uh, these abandon narratives. And the one thing that
- 9:12Speaker 3: I guess we always we always have to instill with
- 9:17Speaker 3: people not to follow the headlines, not to be worried
- 9:19Speaker 3: about different things. If there's a potential paradigm shift, like
- 9:22Speaker 3: we're talking about the potential of tariffs being overlaid on
- 9:26Speaker 3: top of what's going on here, a completely different philosophy
- 9:29Speaker 3: on how to to to manage that sort of things.
- 9:31Speaker 3: That's what people voted for. If that's what happens, it's
- 9:34Speaker 3: that's what you voted for. So that's fine. That's where
- 9:35Speaker 3: the country may be headed once things are laundered through Congress.
- 9:39Speaker 3: That's usually not the way it works out, but we'll
- 9:41Speaker 3: see as far as it goes. Is that anything that
- 9:43Speaker 3: that somebody who is investing for retirement, that that they
- 9:46Speaker 3: have a they have an advisor maybe they're doing their
- 9:48Speaker 3: souls whatever. Is that something you have to be aware
- 9:50Speaker 3: of it all. I mean, do you have to keep
- 9:51Speaker 3: a keep a radar up, like, Okay, there are some
- 9:53Speaker 3: potentials here for a reallocation that I need to look at.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Well, yes, But the problem is it's hard to chasing it,
- 10:03Speaker 4: separate the rhetoric with what might actually happen and knowing
- 10:07Speaker 4: what might actually happen. So so like right now with
- 10:11Speaker 4: the with the tariffs and things of that nature, I
- 10:15Speaker 4: think largely Wall Street quote Wall Street analysts things like
- 10:21Speaker 4: that believe that much of the talk around that is
- 10:27Speaker 4: setting up for negotiation and that it will probably be
- 10:34Speaker 4: focused mainly on you know, the the the abusers of
- 10:39Speaker 4: the trade system China for instance. You know all of
- 10:43Speaker 4: the problems we've had with Shaina and trade and intellectual
- 10:46Speaker 4: property being stolen and.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Things of that nature.
- 10:49Speaker 4: You know, some sort of a punishment for that, rather
- 10:54Speaker 4: than a broad policy that sometimes is talked about. Now,
- 10:58Speaker 4: if it becomes a broad PAS and then there's retaliation,
- 11:02Speaker 4: you know that that is a kind of a wild
- 11:05Speaker 4: card on how that how that will play out. If
- 11:10Speaker 4: you look at the stocks that that you know have
- 11:13Speaker 4: done well since the election, or since all of these
- 11:16Speaker 4: things have have been talked about, they tend to be
- 11:20Speaker 4: smaller and more domestic oriented companies, which also were the
- 11:25Speaker 4: companies that were largely left behind in the in the
- 11:29Speaker 4: rally we've had the last couple of years. So you know,
- 11:32Speaker 4: some of it may just be catch up and some
- 11:33Speaker 4: of it may be just reallocation that people are looking, Okay,
- 11:36Speaker 4: if this happens, what what areas should we be in?
- 11:40Speaker 4: You know, the reality is, though a diversified portfolio should
- 11:43Speaker 4: have those pieces in it anyway, and and you should
- 11:47Speaker 4: be making sure that your allocations are appropriate for your
- 11:51Speaker 4: stage in life. But you know, other than maybe putting
- 11:57Speaker 4: your finger and adding a little weight here or there,
- 12:02Speaker 4: probably not large changes to those type of things. If
- 12:04Speaker 4: you're in a particularly a retirement distribution phase, it's it's
- 12:10Speaker 4: very risky to go all in one one sector because
- 12:14Speaker 4: you think something is going to happen, because quite often
- 12:16Speaker 4: it doesn't work out exactly the way you planned.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And quite frankly, to kind of answer my own questions
- 12:22Speaker 3: in a lot of ways, because you address this on
- 12:23Speaker 3: this program a lot, if you're if you're allocated properly
- 12:26Speaker 3: and balanced properly in things along those lines changes like that,
- 12:30Speaker 3: even if you do ultimately somewhere by the during the
- 12:33Speaker 3: process of the thing, if you have to make some movement,
- 12:35Speaker 3: but if you're allocated properly, you're going to have the
- 12:37Speaker 3: safeguards in place. Anyway, You're going to be okay as
- 12:39Speaker 3: far as those things go. And then long term, if
- 12:40Speaker 3: there's some changes you have to make or whatever, just
- 12:42Speaker 3: like in the pro interest rates to the negative interest
- 12:46Speaker 3: rate environment, you know, you find things that you need
- 12:48Speaker 3: to do to use other tools, but if you're allocated correctly,
- 12:50Speaker 3: you're not going to be in any emergency situation necessarily.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it is likely that we're going to
- 12:57Speaker 4: get in in more of a stage where it's the
- 13:00Speaker 4: uh uh, you know, the proof's got to be in
- 13:02Speaker 4: the pudding for companies to do well in the market.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Much of much of the market growth in the last
- 13:12Speaker 4: couple of years has come from multiple expansion, you know,
- 13:16Speaker 4: the the price to earnings ratio expansion, and some of
- 13:19Speaker 4: these companies have have really gone up faster than their
- 13:24Speaker 4: earnings actually have have risen. And for the market to
- 13:29Speaker 4: continue to go up, you know, one would think there'd
- 13:32Speaker 4: have to be a little bit of catch up there
- 13:35Speaker 4: where you know people are going to look. Are these
- 13:37Speaker 4: earnings coming in as we planned? Are they coming in strong?
- 13:42Speaker 4: The good news is the projections are that they that
- 13:45Speaker 4: they are they should this year. That doesn't mean it
- 13:48Speaker 4: will happen, but most of the analyst expectations is for
- 13:51Speaker 4: an acceleration of corporate earnings. So we'll see if that
- 13:56Speaker 4: plays out. But but for the market to reach these
- 13:59Speaker 4: you know, like we've kind of come accustomed to the
- 14:01Speaker 4: last couple of years where every time you turn around,
- 14:04Speaker 4: we're at new highs. You know, it's going to be
- 14:07Speaker 4: predicated on actual earnings growth most likely in the in
- 14:12Speaker 4: the future, just because of where multiples are in the
- 14:15Speaker 4: marketplace for many of the particularly large large tech socks.
- 14:19Speaker 3: That's great information with John Burdett for Fourth Avenue Financial.
- 14:21Speaker 3: As always, you can get in on the conversation this
- 14:23Speaker 3: morning if you'd like. Three zero four three four two
- 14:24Speaker 3: eight one three one is our phone number. Threes are
- 14:26Speaker 3: A four three four two eight one three one. You
- 14:28Speaker 3: can also text over any questions you have to three
- 14:29Speaker 3: zero four non three five five zeros erre eight. Threes
- 14:32Speaker 3: are A four non three five five zeros R eight.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Fourth Avenue Financial located one line, Fourth Avenue, Financial dot
- 14:36Speaker 3: comy spout the whole thing, and in downtown Charleston once
- 14:39Speaker 3: any Court Street, right across from the Town Center Mall.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Their local phone number is three zerre a four seven
- 14:43Speaker 3: four six seven on seven seven. I'll give that out
- 14:45Speaker 3: a few more times as we get closer to the
- 14:47Speaker 3: end of the show. You can call us this morning
- 14:48Speaker 3: at three zer a four three four two eight one
- 14:50Speaker 3: three one three zero four three four two eight one
- 14:52Speaker 3: three one as folks are getting ready and maybe next
- 14:54Speaker 3: week will uh we'll do the uh uh whatever you
- 14:58Speaker 3: want to do. But one suggestion is maybe do they
- 15:00Speaker 3: or don't they for New Year's resolutions for finance, for finances,
- 15:04Speaker 3: the things that people shouldn't marry into, maybe things that
- 15:06Speaker 3: people necessarily should do. But looking at where somebody is
- 15:11Speaker 3: we talked a little bit off air where you had
- 15:13Speaker 3: a client that was looking to make some moves before
- 15:16Speaker 3: the end of the year, and maybe they got a
- 15:17Speaker 3: little bit of a late start on it. We're only
- 15:19Speaker 3: a week away from the end of the year now,
- 15:20Speaker 3: so you might be a little late if you're trying
- 15:22Speaker 3: to do something before the actual calendar turns over to
- 15:24Speaker 3: twenty twenty five. But if there are some house cleaning things,
- 15:28Speaker 3: is there anything typical that people should look at last
- 15:31Speaker 3: real functional week of the year or dates just a
- 15:34Speaker 3: date things are going to be fine?
- 15:36Speaker 4: Well, I think that at this stage it's hard. It's
- 15:40Speaker 4: hard to manage a lot of transactions. I mean, you're
- 15:46Speaker 4: up against some deadlines on some things, so it may
- 15:48Speaker 4: be difficult. It's probably still doable, but your window is
- 15:52Speaker 4: closing fast. But certain things like tax last selling, if
- 15:58Speaker 4: you have a lost position your portfolio, you want to
- 16:00Speaker 4: take a tax loss, maybe you have gains in the portfolio.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Going ahead and cutting the ties was something that hasn't
- 16:06Speaker 4: worked out for you can help cancel out some of
- 16:10Speaker 4: those gains for tax purposes and and you know, free
- 16:13Speaker 4: up that money to redeploy. You know, things like that
- 16:16Speaker 4: that that you can still do before the clock runs out.
- 16:21Speaker 4: And you know, tax managing a portfolio has a big
- 16:26Speaker 4: impact on the on your returns. Ultimately, it's not what
- 16:30Speaker 4: you make, it's what you keep it what you make,
- 16:32Speaker 4: and uh, you know they're they're you know I personally,
- 16:36Speaker 4: I last week I had a stock in my portfolio
- 16:39Speaker 4: that that was at a loss that I felt felt like, hey,
- 16:42Speaker 4: I don't think this one's this one's coming back, and
- 16:45Speaker 4: I'm you know, cut ties with it. Took the tax
- 16:47Speaker 4: loss and I'll be able to offset something else that
- 16:50Speaker 4: has gained and save the taxes.
- 16:52Speaker 3: That's good stuff. We have a break coming up here.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Just a moment before we go to the break, though,
- 16:54Speaker 3: we have a caller that called in this morning, has
- 16:56Speaker 3: a question for John Bridett from Fourth Avenue Financial. Go ahead,
- 16:58Speaker 3: you're on the air. What's your first name?
- 17:00Speaker 7: Dan?
- 17:02Speaker 5: Call?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Are you still with me?
- 17:04Speaker 7: Yes?
- 17:05Speaker 3: What's your first fan? Dan? Okay?
- 17:07Speaker 7: Dan? Uh, mister Burdette. I appreciate you guys taking my call.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Perhaps a somewhat unusual question. I am trying to help
- 17:15Speaker 7: a friend of mine sell a number of record albums.
- 17:19Speaker 7: Do you do you do you buy such albums? If so,
- 17:25Speaker 7: how does it work?
- 17:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yes we do.
- 17:27Speaker 5: That's it is.
- 17:28Speaker 4: It is a little off off topic subject, but as
- 17:31Speaker 4: many of you know because of listening to the show,
- 17:34Speaker 4: we talk about it occasionally. Uh. Inside my wife's Vintage
- 17:38Speaker 4: and Vines mercantile the back corner, I have a U,
- 17:41Speaker 4: I have a record shop, and yes we do buy
- 17:44Speaker 4: we do buy uh collections from from.
- 17:46Speaker 7: Folks you buy collections? Yes, so I guess you would.
- 17:52Speaker 7: You would look at all the records and and give
- 17:56Speaker 7: a person a price for the collection.
- 17:58Speaker 4: That's correct, okay, yeah, And you know, if it's a
- 18:04Speaker 4: if it's a matter of you know, one hundred albums
- 18:08Speaker 4: or something like that, on the weekend, you can bring
- 18:11Speaker 4: them into the shop and we can meet up with
- 18:12Speaker 4: you and take a look at them. If it's a
- 18:14Speaker 4: if it's a big collection, you know, a room full
- 18:16Speaker 4: of records, you know, we can arrange a time for
- 18:20Speaker 4: me to come out and look.
- 18:22Speaker 7: So you you might come to someone's home and take
- 18:24Speaker 7: a look at if there were enough albums, if there.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Were enough, if enough albums, you know, Before I would
- 18:29Speaker 4: do that, i'd want to get some pictures of of
- 18:31Speaker 4: what you you know, what it looks like, and get
- 18:35Speaker 4: an idea of the condition and content, and then we'd
- 18:38Speaker 4: schedule something. Okay, so we're doing high finance on the show,
- 18:43Speaker 4: aren't we today? That's all right.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I never know if you if we're across one of
- 18:47Speaker 3: those yesterday today albums or something, that's right.
- 18:51Speaker 7: I got one. I got one crate of one hundred
- 18:54Speaker 7: and forty two albums. I'm told there's more. I know
- 18:58Speaker 7: a little bit about some of them. So there's a
- 19:00Speaker 7: couple of interesting, couple interesting ones in there. I'm not
- 19:05Speaker 7: sure about a whole bunch of them great albums, but
- 19:08Speaker 7: I already have them. Who I don't know. That's why
- 19:11Speaker 7: I'm calling you. I appreciate your help. I will be
- 19:14Speaker 7: in touch.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Okay, that sounds great. I appreciate the call.
- 19:17Speaker 3: That's great stuff. Hey, you never know, don't don't count
- 19:20Speaker 3: on John funding your retirement though. That's right, that's right.
- 19:23Speaker 4: This is this is a you know, kind of a
- 19:25Speaker 4: hobby business about on the side. So I have fun
- 19:28Speaker 4: doing it.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I get so much enjoyment out of it because I
- 19:31Speaker 3: ran a used media store for years and years and years.
- 19:35Speaker 3: It started as a bookstore, kind of grew with Amazon.
- 19:37Speaker 3: We got into records and games and everything else eventually,
- 19:39Speaker 3: and I had so many conversations like this. It's just
- 19:42Speaker 3: it's a nice memory pick up. Hey, we have a
- 19:45Speaker 3: question about bitcoin, bitcoins, ETFs. When we come back, we're
- 19:48Speaker 3: gonna be in tech our break. We'll come back to

- 22:57Speaker 3: studio with this this morning and give us a call.
- 22:59Speaker 3: We're just looking at some of the weird artifacts from
- 23:01Speaker 3: AI video. I don't know if you've seen this. Here's
- 23:04Speaker 3: the one I was getting ready to show you before
- 23:05Speaker 3: we go on. Check out what happens to the runner
- 23:06Speaker 3: at the end of this video. It just turns into
- 23:09Speaker 3: like the T one thousand from from and just he
- 23:12Speaker 3: just like morphs backwards. He doesn't actually so like these
- 23:15Speaker 3: videos that you can get on on the the AI stuff.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Now I have the open ah a souno or sorow
- 23:20Speaker 3: or soro I think sora is what it's called. And
- 23:23Speaker 3: the generation is interesting. You can go in there and
- 23:25Speaker 3: you can you can have it generate things and you
- 23:27Speaker 3: basically can tell it to do anything. What it interprets
- 23:30Speaker 3: it as is a little bit questionable, but the weird
- 23:33Speaker 3: thing it gets and because human bodies are so strange, like,
- 23:36Speaker 3: it can create a relatively realistic look and environment. But
- 23:39Speaker 3: when it comes to actually the nuances of how the
- 23:42Speaker 3: human body moves, it can't replicate that. And so you
- 23:45Speaker 3: have these weird things with people that are supposed to
- 23:47Speaker 3: be turning and instead of turning their body their body
- 23:49Speaker 3: just morphs into like from an east west position to
- 23:52Speaker 3: a west east position or whatever. It's really strange stuff.
- 23:55Speaker 3: But we're seeing things like this one line all the
- 23:57Speaker 3: time now.
- 23:58Speaker 4: No doubt about it. And really, you know, photographs pictures
- 24:03Speaker 4: still pictures. You have to really be careful.
- 24:06Speaker 3: They're getting tough.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it is really tough to tell or things that
- 24:09Speaker 4: are pictures that you know, if it makes you scratch
- 24:13Speaker 4: your head, it's like, wow, I didn't realize that. You know,
- 24:15Speaker 4: you need to do a little more research because oftentimes
- 24:19Speaker 4: it's a fake picture.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I think what people don't realize is a lot of
- 24:22Speaker 3: the the the h the picture and video generations have
- 24:25Speaker 3: safeguards that keep you from putting in famous people so
- 24:27Speaker 3: you can't spoof stuff. But there's a lot of them
- 24:29Speaker 3: out there, and there's tons of them that run legs
- 24:32Speaker 3: of these these picture generations that have none of those safeguards.
- 24:35Speaker 3: You so you can, if you know where to find them,
- 24:37Speaker 3: you can go get them. You can put in whatever
- 24:39Speaker 3: celebrity you want, have them generate whatever type of picture
- 24:41Speaker 3: you want. Sometimes they look great. Sometimes they have six
- 24:44Speaker 3: arms and you're like, oh, that's an AI picture. But
- 24:46Speaker 3: you know, if one out of one hundred gets through
- 24:48Speaker 3: and we start changing perception on how we believe things.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I mean, that's a it's a problem. Yeah, it's a
- 24:54Speaker 3: potential problem, you know, problem it is, But that's not
- 24:57Speaker 3: what we're talking about this morning. And maybe there's some
- 24:59Speaker 3: some investment in there in the future. But AI does
- 25:02Speaker 3: remind me of like we've talked about the cutting edge
- 25:05Speaker 3: of different things, and we talked about the meme stocks
- 25:07Speaker 3: in here, we've talked about bitcoin, and we've been doing
- 25:09Speaker 3: this show long enough where we've even seen the bitcoin
- 25:12Speaker 3: spikes and the peaks and valleys in the bitcoin. We've
- 25:14Speaker 3: seen it here. But I can't remember when it was,
- 25:17Speaker 3: but it wasn't all that long ago that we started
- 25:19Speaker 3: rolling out some of these ETFs for bitcoins. So if
- 25:21Speaker 3: people were curious, if they were a bitcoin curious, they
- 25:23Speaker 3: didn't actually actually get into bitcoins. They could get into
- 25:26Speaker 3: the people that get into bitcoins. But we did have
- 25:28Speaker 3: a caller from the threes or four three nine. I
- 25:30Speaker 3: was asking about this, John, what is your opinion on
- 25:32Speaker 3: some of the bitcoin's ETFs, such as Bido or any
- 25:35Speaker 3: of the others.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Well as far as individually, you know, I'm not going
- 25:40Speaker 4: to pick one over the other. I will say this,
- 25:45Speaker 4: and I may just be turning into an old guy.
- 25:49Speaker 4: But you know, but when I look for investment, I
- 25:53Speaker 4: try to invest in things that are providing value to
- 26:00Speaker 4: someone else. You know, wealth created in the service of others.
- 26:05Speaker 4: And when you buy a company that is providing a
- 26:07Speaker 4: good or service, innovating, solving a problem, meeting a need,
- 26:12Speaker 4: you know there's a value there. And so I try
- 26:16Speaker 4: to stick to those type of investments when I'm building
- 26:18Speaker 4: portfolios for myself or my clients, rather than chasing those things.
- 26:23Speaker 4: You know, Bitcoin is one of those things that you know,
- 26:27Speaker 4: who knows how that all plays out and where it
- 26:30Speaker 4: will find its way into the way we transact business.
- 26:35Speaker 4: You know, it could be that twenty years from now
- 26:38Speaker 4: there's no dollar bill and it's all bitcoin for all
- 26:41Speaker 4: I know. But what I do know, if that happens,
- 26:44Speaker 4: if the companies I own are meeting the needs, solving
- 26:47Speaker 4: problems of other people, instead of getting dollars, I'll get
- 26:51Speaker 4: bitcoin in return. So I'd rather stick with what I
- 26:55Speaker 4: know and let those chips fall where they may. But
- 27:01Speaker 4: that's just how I deal with that.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that seems like I think as long as you
- 27:06Speaker 3: could be and people are going to do what they
- 27:08Speaker 3: want to do, right. But I think the sober decision
- 27:10Speaker 3: making is probably where it's at. And there's we have
- 27:13Speaker 3: we have, you know, the dreams of history of things
- 27:14Speaker 3: at work.
- 27:15Speaker 4: And that being said, you know, my son thinks I'm
- 27:19Speaker 4: an idiotic because he told me to buy it when
- 27:22Speaker 4: it was you know, a couple hundred dollars for a bitcoin,
- 27:25Speaker 4: and you know, I guess in hindsight that would have
- 27:29Speaker 4: been wonderful, but there was a high risk and high
- 27:34Speaker 4: chance that would go the other direction.
- 27:36Speaker 3: I have a project. I haven't had a chance to
- 27:38Speaker 3: share this with you. I just now remember this. I
- 27:40Speaker 3: did that on hotline a couple of weeks ago and
- 27:42Speaker 3: talked about this, but we haven't done a show since
- 27:44Speaker 3: I discovered this. So I was doing some cleanup in
- 27:47Speaker 3: my house with some areas that I hadn't been gotten
- 27:50Speaker 3: to in a while, to be quite honest with you,
- 27:52Speaker 3: and I ran across the guts of an old desktop,
- 27:56Speaker 3: and after I did some thinking about it, and I
- 27:58Speaker 3: was like, man, what the heck is this? From about
- 28:01Speaker 3: ninety percent certain that this is the desktop that I
- 28:03Speaker 3: brought with me from when I moved back from Michigan,
- 28:06Speaker 3: and I basically just kept the guts of it just
- 28:08Speaker 3: in case i'd ever have to get on to get
- 28:09Speaker 3: you know whatever. And after time, whatever it was that
- 28:12Speaker 3: I thought was so important that I needed to get to,
- 28:14Speaker 3: I forgot about. Obviously Normally I would just throw the
- 28:16Speaker 3: thing away. And I was really really close to throwing
- 28:18Speaker 3: away the hard drive and the guts was in this thing.
- 28:21Speaker 3: And then it dawned on me years ago, and I
- 28:24Speaker 3: mean years ago when bitcoin first became a thing, when
- 28:26Speaker 3: it was difficult. You had to download this wallet and
- 28:29Speaker 3: get on there and create like a key and you
- 28:31Speaker 3: get like two days worth of verification before you get
- 28:34Speaker 3: your key back and return to access your world. I'm
- 28:35Speaker 3: talking about early I don't know what early, like early
- 28:38Speaker 3: two thousands or something. I think when bitcoin like maybe
- 28:40Speaker 3: two thousand and five, two thousand and six, seven, some
- 28:42Speaker 3: of like that. When these things first started, I bought
- 28:44Speaker 3: some sometime or another, you know, just as an experiment
- 28:47Speaker 3: because it was like in a service that I was
- 28:49Speaker 3: part of. It is like, oh, you need to be
- 28:50Speaker 3: into the bitcoin thing. It's like, oh, I better get bitcoin,
- 28:52Speaker 3: and I like set up the whole thing, and it
- 28:54Speaker 3: was so complicated and convoluted. I just never really messed
- 28:57Speaker 3: with it again. But somewhere in there, I have a bitcoin.
- 29:00Speaker 3: I don't know if it's a full bitcoin, a half
- 29:01Speaker 3: a bitcoin. What the heck it is that's like twenty
- 29:04Speaker 3: years old.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Well, I would guess that it's probably multiple bitcoins because
- 29:10Speaker 4: they were pennies.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know what. I can't remember, but I
- 29:13Speaker 3: know that I set it up, and I know that
- 29:14Speaker 3: I bought it. I know that I have possessions somewhere.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Supposedly I could be setting in the presence of a billionaire.
- 29:21Speaker 3: So my project is is I mean, who has I
- 29:23Speaker 3: don't have guts to desktops laying around anymore. You know,
- 29:26Speaker 3: I used to build them. I don't have anything like
- 29:28Speaker 3: that anymore. I have, like I have like old tablets
- 29:31Speaker 3: laying around my house and maybe a laptop. That's about it.
- 29:34Speaker 3: So I think that I'm going to go and try
- 29:37Speaker 3: to get some pieces and rebuild this computer. See if
- 29:40Speaker 3: I can find my bitcoin wallet. I have no idea what.
- 29:42Speaker 3: I don't even know what the program was that I now.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I mean, it was literally so long ago. I can't
- 29:45Speaker 3: remember what I did last week, let alone twenty years ago, but.
- 29:48Speaker 4: It did fine, and then knowing the password, you know,
- 29:50Speaker 4: you hear those rights. I could about you know, people
- 29:53Speaker 4: passing away that have fortunes and bitcoins.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I thought about that. I did think about that. In
- 29:58Speaker 3: the early two thousands, I had a very clever password
- 30:00Speaker 3: I was very very proud of and I used it
- 30:02Speaker 3: for virtually everything. So there's probably a decent shot that
- 30:05Speaker 3: if I can find the wallet, then I probably know
- 30:07Speaker 3: the password.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Well, I know that you found it if I never
- 30:10Speaker 4: see you again, if the next message you get to
- 30:13Speaker 4: me is like like a video call from like an
- 30:15Speaker 4: island in Greece, you know, you know what happened to Coop?
- 30:19Speaker 3: You know what happened to Coop? Anyway, I'm sure that
- 30:22Speaker 3: there's other stories out there like that, But I mean,
- 30:24Speaker 3: I thought about this and it just dawned on me.
- 30:26Speaker 3: When I saw this thing, I was like, what could
- 30:28Speaker 3: could I possibly find it? And if I could, what
- 30:29Speaker 3: can the value of that thing? I have no memory
- 30:32Speaker 3: of what it was, but I don't think that they
- 30:33Speaker 3: even sold them in fractions back then. You know, it
- 30:36Speaker 3: was probably at least a full one or multiple full
- 30:38Speaker 3: ones because they didn't cost anything.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Well, I mean, my son had lots of them. At
- 30:43Speaker 4: some point in time, and they kind of went different areas,
- 30:46Speaker 4: different ways, but yeah, they were you know, you weren't
- 30:49Speaker 4: buying fractional you know, if you put one hundred bucks
- 30:52Speaker 4: in it. You had a lot of them back then.
- 30:55Speaker 4: I can remember my son trying to get me to
- 30:58Speaker 4: buy one. We were in Phoenix during COVID when COVID started,
- 31:05Speaker 4: and they had back then, they had these ATMs that
- 31:09Speaker 4: you could go and trade money in for bitcoin, and
- 31:14Speaker 4: he had convinced, well, he had convinced mom that if
- 31:18Speaker 4: it got to three thousand, that we'd buy one just
- 31:23Speaker 4: to see what happened. And we didn't because it only
- 31:25Speaker 4: got to like thirty one hundred. I think while we
- 31:28Speaker 4: were there, Like to say, this was during COVID, it
- 31:31Speaker 4: had collapsed, you know, with the markets and everything, and yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 4: I mean, you know that three thousand would be you
- 31:38Speaker 4: know whatever, one hundred thousand to day.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I have a buddy of mine that he was so
- 31:42Speaker 3: far ahead of his time that it's a shame that
- 31:45Speaker 3: he didn't think about this. Later on. He had this
- 31:46Speaker 3: idea and again this was around the same time because
- 31:49Speaker 3: this is what got us starting to talk about bitcoin
- 31:50Speaker 3: and stuff. He had this idea that he was going
- 31:53Speaker 3: to create designer money clips, like just real fancy designer
- 31:57Speaker 3: money clips, and that you could only buy him with
- 31:59Speaker 3: a bitcoin. That was like his whole thing. I mean,
- 32:01Speaker 3: he actually put the specs together, he sent it off
- 32:03Speaker 3: to like a place in Malaysia, he got like versions
- 32:06Speaker 3: of him made the whole time. I mean, it was
- 32:07Speaker 3: like he legitimately was going to do it. He never
- 32:09Speaker 3: quite pulled the trigger on putting it together. But I'm thinking,
- 32:11Speaker 3: man today, that that kind of business would probably make
- 32:13Speaker 3: if you were an online influencer selling special money clips
- 32:16Speaker 3: and then and then it was like associated with bitcoin
- 32:19Speaker 3: in some way, you'd probably make a billion dollars in
- 32:21Speaker 3: a minute doing that today.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, you know, it could be the
- 32:27Speaker 4: thing that we're all using twenty years from now for
- 32:29Speaker 4: all on.
- 32:29Speaker 3: You never know, right, But I don't.
- 32:32Speaker 4: I don't feel like I have to guess, you know,
- 32:35Speaker 4: if I own companies that are valuable, I feel like
- 32:39Speaker 4: I'm going to be okay no matter how we trade it.
- 32:43Speaker 3: And although the dollar is worth a different relative amount
- 32:46Speaker 3: today than it was, you know in the seventies, it's
- 32:48Speaker 3: still a dollar that spends well.
- 32:50Speaker 4: I've you know, I've never had a problem with my
- 32:53Speaker 4: money being in a bank and you know, not knowing how.
- 32:57Speaker 3: To get it. Yeah, forgetting your password.
- 33:00Speaker 4: So you know, I just it's hard for me to
- 33:05Speaker 4: see the utility because it's just right now, it's clunky, and.
- 33:08Speaker 3: It almost seems harder. Everybody talks about how much easier
- 33:10Speaker 3: it makes everything. It makes everything so much harder. The
- 33:12Speaker 3: right way things are right now.
- 33:13Speaker 4: I just don't see it. But that's me, and you
- 33:16Speaker 4: know that's my fifty year old eyebass looking at the situation.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Well, the same agent, that's what that's I mean, I
- 33:21Speaker 3: lean into your expertise, but I get that feeling as
- 33:24Speaker 3: far as that goes. We have another question online, this
- 33:26Speaker 3: from the three or four four to one five John.
- 33:28Speaker 3: My sister who is seventy is thinking about doing something
- 33:30Speaker 3: with her four to one case since she's earned significantly
- 33:33Speaker 3: in it, but the fluctuation has bothered her. Is it
- 33:35Speaker 3: a good idea and what might be her options?
- 33:38Speaker 4: Well, the best option is to give us a call
- 33:41Speaker 4: and we'll sit down and talk about what's bothering her,
- 33:45Speaker 4: what how it's allocated currently, and how she's going to
- 33:50Speaker 4: use the money in the future. You know, if it's
- 33:52Speaker 4: a retirement account. It's seventy three. Even if she's not
- 33:55Speaker 4: drawing down on it, she'll have to start drawing required
- 33:59Speaker 4: minimum distrybutions at age seventy three. And so even that
- 34:04Speaker 4: may warrant a change in the portfolio because it's going
- 34:07Speaker 4: from an accumulation stage to a distribution stage at that point.
- 34:11Speaker 4: So it it it's a sounds like it's a good
- 34:14Speaker 4: time to set down and just take a good look
- 34:17Speaker 4: at that portfolio. And you know, we can do an
- 34:21Speaker 4: introductory call. There's no charge for that and the initial meeting.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Be happy to do that.
- 34:28Speaker 3: It's outstanding stuff. So if you want to get a
- 34:29Speaker 3: hold of Johnberdead, of course, the phone numbers three zerre
- 34:32Speaker 3: A four seven four six seven non seven seven three
- 34:34Speaker 3: zero four seven four six seven non seven to seven
- 34:36Speaker 3: fourth Avenue Financial on line. You's about the whole thing.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Located at one seventy Court Street, downtown Charleston, one seventy
- 34:41Speaker 3: Court Street, right across from the Town Center Mall. Again
- 34:43Speaker 3: the phone number three zero four seven four six seven
- 34:45Speaker 3: non seven seven. And that's not an uncommon question, and
- 34:47Speaker 3: really it's a good question, you know, because you are
- 34:50Speaker 3: kind of at that place, like you said, you're near
- 34:52Speaker 3: the point where you have to start. You're going to
- 34:54Speaker 3: have mandatory that you're going to have to start making
- 34:56Speaker 3: withdrawals from it. If you need to make sure that
- 34:58Speaker 3: you have things u sequence properly, if you're a little
- 35:01Speaker 3: nervous for some reason or another, whatever it might be,
- 35:03Speaker 3: that's exactly the type of reason you're there for. This
- 35:05Speaker 3: person's mature in their retirement, of course, but you can
- 35:07Speaker 3: still help in those regards.
- 35:09Speaker 4: Oh absolutely. I mean there are many many people who
- 35:12Speaker 4: have been very successful building portfolios through their four oh
- 35:15Speaker 4: one K. They retire and they just don't change anything
- 35:20Speaker 4: because it's worked in the past. Well, the problem is
- 35:23Speaker 4: their stage of life is changing and their needs are changing,
- 35:27Speaker 4: and the portfolio should adjust to that. If it does not,
- 35:32Speaker 4: it introduces risk that weren't there when they were maybe
- 35:36Speaker 4: forty years old in saving because of how you're using
- 35:39Speaker 4: the money, or maybe be forced to use the money.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Like I say, with the required distributions at seventy three,
- 35:44Speaker 4: you're going to have to start taking withdrawals from the money.
- 35:47Speaker 4: The math changes when you do that. It's no longer
- 35:51Speaker 4: dollar cost averaging in Now you've run the risk of
- 35:54Speaker 4: the timing of the returns as it's being pulled out.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Now, that's great information and great questions to kind of
- 35:59Speaker 3: wrap up the day. If you had one you wanted
- 36:01Speaker 3: to try to get in before we wrap up the show,
- 36:02Speaker 3: you can try to do so at three zero four
- 36:04Speaker 3: non three five, five zero zero eight threes are a
- 36:06Speaker 3: four nine three five five zeros or eight. Appreciate everyone
- 36:08Speaker 3: contributing to the show this morning and asking your questions,
- 36:11Speaker 3: and want to make sure that we get our information
- 36:13Speaker 3: out there one more time. So next next Monday will

- 36:19Speaker 3: you have any of your questions and you don't get
- 36:21Speaker 3: a chance to talk to John before, then you can

- 36:24Speaker 3: a call. We'll be back here at eight twenty for

- 36:32Speaker 4: Yeah, with these dates clicked by, it's like I'm expecting
- 36:35Speaker 4: Buck Rogers to show up. These dates seem crazy.
- 36:39Speaker 3: My wife and I celebrated our twelfth anniversary this weekend
- 36:42Speaker 3: and for the first time my daughters six, and every
- 36:45Speaker 3: year for our anniversary we've arranged for a grand pair

- 36:56Speaker 3: had a nice anniversary dinner over there, and my wife
- 36:58Speaker 3: or my daughter who's six, she was adamant about taking
- 37:02Speaker 3: a photo of us. She's like, mommy, dad, I want
- 37:04Speaker 3: to take I want to take a picture. She took
- 37:05Speaker 3: my phone and had us pose. She put us together
- 37:07Speaker 3: in the picture, arranged it, got the picture up, took
- 37:10Speaker 3: a pitt It's one of the best pictures it's ever
- 37:12Speaker 3: been taken. My wife and I it was the cutest
- 37:15Speaker 3: thing in the world that my daughter was, That my
- 37:17Speaker 3: daughter was able to do that. It's cute stuff. It's
- 37:20Speaker 3: cute stuff. I love, I love I love that. But
- 37:23Speaker 3: it just goes to show you just how quickly time
- 37:25Speaker 3: goes by. Man. I can't believe that six years since
- 37:28Speaker 3: she's been born, twelve years since I married my wife,
- 37:31Speaker 3: time just goes by so quick. I'm married her during
- 37:33Speaker 3: the Obama administration. You know, things things move quickly. Man.
- 37:37Speaker 3: It seems like it wasn't there all that long ago,
- 37:39Speaker 3: and we get the information out there one more time.
