- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Hi everyone, welcome back to Dirty Rush. This is the
- 0:15Speaker 3: Producer's edition.
- 0:17Speaker 2: We've got heavy on the mic, Emma and Shelby.
- 0:22Speaker 3: And today we're going to be talking about what we
- 0:23Speaker 3: wish we knew before we went into rush. So we're
- 0:27Speaker 3: going to be giving you all the stories all of
- 0:29Speaker 3: us went. All of us were in different sororities, at
- 0:32Speaker 3: different schools and had different Rush experiences. But we all
- 0:35Speaker 3: have a lot of advice to give you for when
- 0:37Speaker 3: you're going through rush.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Especially because some people are going through rush this semester. True,
- 0:42Speaker 1: which's be where.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I could do that?
- 0:45Speaker 4: I do feels in the snow?
- 0:47Speaker 2: No, thank you?
- 0:48Speaker 4: I can remember, would you?
- 0:50Speaker 5: No?
- 0:51Speaker 4: I would I.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Went to UCLA and the you know, the latest round.
- 0:55Speaker 3: It was probably fifty degrees out and I remember being
- 0:58Speaker 3: cold waiting outside. Yeah, but it was also in September
- 1:02Speaker 3: because we do first semester.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Do you guys all do first semester rush?
- 1:05Speaker 4: Mine's like before school starts? What is your guys?
- 1:08Speaker 3: Is?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Mine is after it's over the three day weekend.
- 1:11Speaker 6: Yeah, mine was always in August. It's insanely hot in Texas.
- 1:15Speaker 6: It's so hot.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Did you have to go to school early for how
- 1:18Speaker 5: they do thatt ut?
- 1:19Speaker 4: Yes, which I actually really liked.
- 1:21Speaker 6: But I think it's really everyone has a different experience
- 1:23Speaker 6: doing it, like different ways, and people like it for
- 1:26Speaker 6: different reasons, you know, Like I loved it because like
- 1:29Speaker 6: you don't know anyone, so there's no one, like like
- 1:32Speaker 6: you're not rushing what your friends are rushing, Like You're
- 1:35Speaker 6: going whatever you really feel like as you're fit, which
- 1:38Speaker 6: I feel like is nice because like I feel like
- 1:39Speaker 6: if I was second semester, then I would just want
- 1:41Speaker 6: to go the souarty my friends were and it wouldn't
- 1:43Speaker 6: be as much my choice.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I'm torn on this because I feel like it benefits
- 1:49Speaker 3: you know, I went to a huge state school, Like
- 1:51Speaker 3: I I went to UCLA, and I was from Chicago,
- 1:54Speaker 3: and I knew nobody at my school, and so I
- 1:56Speaker 3: feel like I didn't have a leg up, you know,
- 1:59Speaker 3: to know and coming in, and.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I felt like.
- 2:03Speaker 3: It gave me a really fair shot that it just
- 2:07Speaker 3: it started right when school started, and like I nobody
- 2:10Speaker 3: knew anyone and nobody like really had a leg up
- 2:13Speaker 3: just going into rush. But I also think USC, the
- 2:17Speaker 3: other school, like big school in LA, they did it
- 2:20Speaker 3: second semester and they were like, I feel like the
- 2:23Speaker 3: girls and sororities at USC were like had so many
- 2:26Speaker 3: different friends across sororities because they did it second semester,
- 2:31Speaker 3: and so they were able to have like your you know,
- 2:32Speaker 3: your first semester friends, but then I'll end up in
- 2:35Speaker 3: different sororities.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Totally, that's cool since first semester all my friends are
- 2:39Speaker 1: dg except for like your dorm friends totally are across
- 2:43Speaker 1: different sororities. Yeah, but yeah, I mean it kind of
- 2:47Speaker 1: gave you friends immediately rushing first semester.
- 2:50Speaker 2: True, so pros and cons like both.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Yeah, It's also interesting how at different schools. I feel
- 2:55Speaker 6: like some schools it's like all sorority girls are friends
- 2:58Speaker 6: with girls and different sororities, and that some schools it's
- 3:00Speaker 6: like you only hang out with the girls and your sorty,
- 3:02Speaker 6: which I've heard is a case that like you dub
- 3:04Speaker 6: like they like don't really but then you know, everyone
- 3:07Speaker 6: tells different things.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 6: I remember hearing that once and I was like, that's
- 3:10Speaker 6: so interesting because in my school everyone was like meshed
- 3:13Speaker 6: with girls in different sororities. Yeah, yeah, so I wonder
- 3:16Speaker 6: if that has something to do with the first versus
- 3:17Speaker 6: second semester recruitment.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Probably m hm.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Anyways, we're here to share a couple of things that
- 3:25Speaker 1: we all wished we knew before going into rush and
- 3:29Speaker 1: something that I didn't know but to get into the
- 3:32Speaker 1: sorority I was at at CU Boulder was that you
- 3:35Speaker 1: did have to have a letter of reck.
- 3:37Speaker 3: You did, yes, because that you see, like they it
- 3:40Speaker 3: was just like those did.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Not matter at all.
- 3:43Speaker 1: You It didn't matter who wrote it. But if you
- 3:46Speaker 1: didn't have one, you weren't. Yeah, like you were passed
- 3:49Speaker 1: up on.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Really.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, so it.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Could be like your your mom's best friend's cousin's daughter.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, anyone that was in the sorority beforehand, at any point,
- 4:01Speaker 1: if you knew them well or not, if they wrote
- 4:04Speaker 1: you a letter of reck, then you made it past
- 4:05Speaker 1: the first round. If you didn't, then you didn't.
- 4:08Speaker 6: I don't know if that's how it was at my school.
- 4:10Speaker 6: I do remember, like, like, I feel like I could
- 4:13Speaker 6: be wrong about this, but I feel like it was
- 4:14Speaker 6: more like if someone was in the sorority at your school,
- 4:17Speaker 6: it mattered more than like if it was just like
- 4:18Speaker 6: a random person from a different school that was in
- 4:21Speaker 6: your sowarty.
- 4:22Speaker 4: To me, that's how I perceived it.
- 4:23Speaker 6: But I could be wrong there, but I feel like
- 4:25Speaker 6: it would mostly matter if it was like an older
- 4:27Speaker 6: girl who had graduated before, then it means more.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it definitely helps if you knew someone in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the direct sorority or someone that was of that affiliate sorority.
- 4:38Speaker 2: But I think just like maybe my sorority had older rules.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Okay, so we had letters of wreck didn't mean anything,
- 4:46Speaker 3: but we had a different thing that I'm really wondering
- 4:50Speaker 3: if I feel like nobody knows about this when you're
- 4:53Speaker 3: going through rush, but then you see it on the
- 4:55Speaker 3: other side and it's kind of wild. I don't know
- 4:58Speaker 3: if you guys have this, but and I'm kind of
- 5:01Speaker 3: giving a lot away here, but during work week, we
- 5:06Speaker 3: would have a presentation of I don't even know if
- 5:09Speaker 3: I'm supposed to say this, but here goes. During work week,
- 5:14Speaker 3: we would have a presentation that girls already in our
- 5:17Speaker 3: sorority would be put up a slide show of people
- 5:22Speaker 3: from their hometown that knew that they were coming through
- 5:24Speaker 3: rush and that they really wanted to vouch for and
- 5:27Speaker 3: it would be like a picture of them from their
- 5:29Speaker 3: Instagram and fun facts and this is why she would
- 5:31Speaker 3: be great in our sorority, and these are her amazing traits,
- 5:35Speaker 3: and or on the other end, it would be like
- 5:39Speaker 3: this girl screwed up dating my brother and cheating on
- 5:42Speaker 3: him and we cannot let her in. I know she's
- 5:44Speaker 3: coming in. So I think that's where knowing someone really
- 5:47Speaker 3: plays a part, because they can really vouch for you.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And then you can do something called hometown voting, where
- 5:54Speaker 3: you can give them either the highest rating or the
- 5:57Speaker 3: lowest rating, but you couldn't give anything in between if
- 6:00Speaker 3: you were in a hometown vote someone.
- 6:02Speaker 6: Do you guys think it's important to know someone in
- 6:03Speaker 6: the sorority, Like, do you think you really need to
- 6:05Speaker 6: in order to get brought back?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Well, my sorority's rules for voting was it's automatically no,
- 6:13Speaker 1: So essentially you were supposed to be dishing out no's
- 6:18Speaker 1: unless the person wowed you and you thought they deserved to.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Yes.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Oh, it was all or nothing, all.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Or nothing, and that's why it was helpful to know
- 6:27Speaker 1: someone in a sorority so that they could tell everyone.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But then again it brings back the rule of you
- 6:33Speaker 1: can't vote for someone unless you bump them, So then
- 6:36Speaker 1: you had to keep making sure that people were getting
- 6:39Speaker 1: bumped so they could get the appropriate votes.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Wow, because ours was what were your So that was
- 6:45Speaker 3: your reading scale? Ours was between I think one in
- 6:49Speaker 3: five or and the highest one you either four or
- 6:54Speaker 3: five meant okay this or I want her to be
- 6:56Speaker 3: my little like not just I want her to be
- 6:58Speaker 3: in our sorority. I want her to be my little
- 7:00Speaker 3: my best friend. Three was like I want her to
- 7:02Speaker 3: be in the sorority, and then one was no two
- 7:06Speaker 3: was it was very important, like what each level meant?
- 7:12Speaker 4: Did you guys do a lot of recruiting?
- 7:13Speaker 6: On the other side, like, did you do a lot
- 7:16Speaker 6: of years of like recruiting in your sorority? Because you
- 7:19Speaker 6: know how some people like don't really want to do
- 7:20Speaker 6: it and only do it one year when they're forced too.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Well one of them, I was abroads, but I did too.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Two of them.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yeah, you mean in terms of like the actual recruiting process.
- 7:31Speaker 1: We were involved all four years. Wow, Like fully involved
- 7:35Speaker 1: had to be which was nice. But then again, like honestly,
- 7:39Speaker 1: whoever was on standards that year took full control over
- 7:43Speaker 1: who was on the hometown's list, who was on the
- 7:45Speaker 1: captain's list.
- 7:47Speaker 4: What is captain's captain's list?
- 7:49Speaker 2: Did you guys not have that?
- 7:50Speaker 4: No, I've never even heard of that.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Your your captain's list is pretty crazy.
- 7:59Speaker 1: So so that means that you were perfect on paper,
- 8:03Speaker 1: meaning that you had the grades, you had the letters
- 8:05Speaker 1: of rex.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Wait, sorry, this means you're talking captain's list. Are P
- 8:11Speaker 3: and ms or.
- 8:12Speaker 1: P and ms on the captain's list that are perfect
- 8:17Speaker 1: on paper with grades? Because we had to have a
- 8:19Speaker 1: certain GPA, and it was a high gpa really that
- 8:23Speaker 1: a lot of the younger girls I knew couldn't get
- 8:26Speaker 1: in from high school because of their gpa?
- 8:29Speaker 5: Wow, can you name what the GPA was?
- 8:32Speaker 4: Did it change every year?
- 8:33Speaker 5: Probably?
- 8:34Speaker 2: I think it was a three four.
- 8:35Speaker 6: I feel like it would change based on like like
- 8:37Speaker 6: at my school, because the GPA would go of how
- 8:40Speaker 6: hard it was to get in, so I feel like
- 8:42Speaker 6: it would go up.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it went up continuously, and I do know that.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Like one of the coolest girls in our sorority when
- 8:50Speaker 1: I was a freshman, she got suspended for a semester
- 8:54Speaker 1: because her grades dropped below and she was the coolest
- 8:57Speaker 1: eight girl of my sorority, like everyone's favorite, and she
- 9:02Speaker 1: got suspended because of her grades.
- 9:18Speaker 3: So this is where I think there's a misconception about
- 9:20Speaker 3: sororities because our sorty too, like had the best GPA
- 9:26Speaker 3: on the row and I would I would argue that
- 9:28Speaker 3: we were some of the best girls and just really cool,
- 9:32Speaker 3: awesome people and we always had the highest GP in
- 9:35Speaker 3: the row and it was usually a three seven, five
- 9:37Speaker 3: or three eight.
- 9:38Speaker 5: And I feel like people think that soorty girls are dumb.
- 9:42Speaker 2: No, not true, Not true.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You're actually talking to a girl who was on the
- 9:46Speaker 1: scholars list.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, talking to a scholar.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you're talking to a scholar not only for the.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Semester maybe, yeah, pretty insane.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I think I was on the low end of the GPA.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I think I was the one on the brisk Well
- 10:05Speaker 2: you went to what you see?
- 10:07Speaker 6: Yeah, so missy over here. Okay, I have another subject
- 10:10Speaker 6: to bring up. What about This isn't necessarily something I
- 10:14Speaker 6: didn't know, but what do you guys, like, what went
- 10:16Speaker 6: on in your head about like your social media? Because
- 10:18Speaker 6: I feel like we're told so many things going into recruitment,
- 10:21Speaker 6: like not being able to follow girls in the sworty
- 10:23Speaker 6: or you should be following girls in the sworty or
- 10:25Speaker 6: what you have posted, like taking down anything of swimsuits alcohol, Like,
- 10:29Speaker 6: did you guys really clean up your social media before
- 10:32Speaker 6: you went through recruitment.
- 10:34Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I didn't feel the need to clean mine up. I
- 10:40Speaker 1: didn't post anything with alcohol in beforehand, because that's kind
- 10:43Speaker 1: of inappropriate in my eyes. Anyways, being a high schooler, Yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 1: in terms of like bathing suit stuff, I would post them,
- 10:49Speaker 1: but it wasn't anything too crazy.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, following like people preference.
- 10:56Speaker 1: If I was the older girl being followed by younger girls,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I would just see that as like they're just trying
- 11:02Speaker 1: to get a gauge on what's going on, and I
- 11:04Speaker 1: would just play it cooler. On the other end of
- 11:06Speaker 1: just like not following people. You can follow the sorority instagrams,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but like you don't need to heavily stock everyone like
- 11:12Speaker 1: I don't.
- 11:13Speaker 2: There's no for my sorority.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There was no offline chat of like we were not
- 11:17Speaker 1: allowed to talk to p and ms and we weren't
- 11:19Speaker 1: allowed to talk to active members before or during the
- 11:23Speaker 1: recruitment process. And so I don't think that there was
- 11:25Speaker 1: a point on our end to kind of like involve
- 11:28Speaker 1: social media with that.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I will say that I do think because I mean,
- 11:34Speaker 3: especially just going to a really big school, we were
- 11:37Speaker 3: talking to so many girls, and I do think that
- 11:40Speaker 3: social media matters. I think what your Instagram and that
- 11:43Speaker 3: it's like a representation of you, like if you like
- 11:46Speaker 3: to sing and you have a video on there, I
- 11:47Speaker 3: think that's great.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I completely agree.
- 11:48Speaker 3: But if it's just like partying, and I think your
- 11:52Speaker 3: Instagram and your profile actually does matter because that's what
- 11:55Speaker 3: not necessarily like that girls are scoping you out beforehand.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I think that at least that wasn't the case with us.
- 12:01Speaker 3: But I think that when you're trying to remember, girl,
- 12:03Speaker 3: oh did I like her?
- 12:04Speaker 5: Did I not?
- 12:05Speaker 3: What was our conversation about? And then you go in
- 12:07Speaker 3: their Instagram, there's nothing. I mean, I guess you're in private.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Some people are because some people are told that they
- 12:12Speaker 6: should go on private beforehand, because then if a girl
- 12:15Speaker 6: follows you, that means something. If not, they can stock
- 12:17Speaker 6: you anytime. I don't remember what I did. But then
- 12:20Speaker 6: there's also so many girls I remember that I loved
- 12:22Speaker 6: and they followed me even though they're not allowed to
- 12:24Speaker 6: and then I was like, oh my goodness, they're going
- 12:27Speaker 6: to go my sworty. And then they didn't, and so
- 12:30Speaker 6: I'm like, why do you follow me? We have like
- 12:32Speaker 6: a silent day, it's like the day before. So our
- 12:34Speaker 6: last day of recruitment, I want to say, is Friday.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Then Saturday is like no contact, like nothing, like really strict,
- 12:41Speaker 6: like basically like stay in your house like okay, and
- 12:44Speaker 6: I know, partying, no texting anyone, even if it's like
- 12:48Speaker 6: your friend, it's really strict. And then Sunday's mid day.
- 12:50Speaker 6: So I remember on that no contact day, like the
- 12:52Speaker 6: one day it's really strict on texting or following or anything.
- 12:56Speaker 6: I had girls following me and they didn't even go
- 12:58Speaker 6: my sworty. So I'm like, that's so confusing.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I'm going to say that that whole like
- 13:04Speaker 3: no contact, no following thing. Take that seriously. Because I
- 13:07Speaker 3: had a great sorority and then I did I contacted
- 13:11Speaker 3: someone because I was so torn between what I was
- 13:13Speaker 3: going to pres and I didn't end up getting that sorority.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I'm happy.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I'm so happy I ended up in the authorty that I did.
- 13:17Speaker 3: But I think that and then no party, especially if
- 13:20Speaker 3: it's the first week of week of school, guys like relax,
- 13:24Speaker 3: And I mean I did, Like, I partied the first.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Week before you before recruitment, and.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I went to like because the only people I knew
- 13:33Speaker 3: at my school were on the soccer team and they
- 13:36Speaker 3: invited me to the soccer party.
- 13:37Speaker 5: And I was like, yeah, I'm going to that.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And I should not.
- 13:40Speaker 5: Have gone to that.
- 13:41Speaker 6: I was the biggest follower. It wasn't crazy. I thought
- 13:44Speaker 6: I was going to get dropped for like the smallest things.
- 13:47Speaker 2: And then it posted a TikTok.
- 13:48Speaker 3: My roommate posted a TikTok about us going out and
- 13:51Speaker 3: it went viral.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Oh my god, it got like three million views.
- 13:55Speaker 6: I could have never I would have never let her
- 13:57Speaker 6: post it. I would have never gone.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Everyone would pop in like you're gonna have to post
- 14:03Speaker 2: the TikTok.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Oh my god, Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Should we add it onto the dirty Rush feed?
- 14:07Speaker 2: Wait, it's actually so good.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It's a video of me and my tiny dorm room
- 14:12Speaker 3: doing my blowout, and we all know I love my blowouts.
- 14:16Speaker 7: I also, oh yeah, and she took a video of
- 14:23Speaker 7: me doing my hair into the home Depot song.
- 14:27Speaker 5: You know the song.
- 14:28Speaker 2: It's like yeah, boom.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom.
- 14:32Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 14:33Speaker 3: And it's me doing my hair and it went crazy
- 14:37Speaker 3: viral and then everyone during.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Rush was like, wait, are you the TikTok care girl?
- 14:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, my god.
- 14:42Speaker 4: See.
- 14:43Speaker 6: And this is a reason though, that I love that
- 14:45Speaker 6: my school does it before school starts. It'd be hard
- 14:48Speaker 6: when school starts, you're so excited about everything.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Well, she literally put on the video my roommate getting
- 14:54Speaker 3: ready for a night out in Westwood the night before Rush.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Oh my god, No, to your point, it was stupid.
- 15:00Speaker 1: The girls that are rushing you, the older girls have
- 15:04Speaker 1: been through Rush themselves, and so they're going to treat
- 15:06Speaker 1: you the way that they were rushed, if not worse.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Girls in authoritative positions are going to keep those positions.
- 15:14Speaker 2: And if they see you out, like.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I was strict, there's.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Like if you see a younger girl partying, it's like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: get your bleep together, Like you're not supposed to party.
- 15:25Speaker 1: We're not partying because we're training how to rush you,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and so you better not be party.
- 15:29Speaker 4: I agree, I'm so.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Trure, Like no one wants to be like dry that way,
- 15:32Speaker 3: but everyone is and then yeah they see younger people
- 15:36Speaker 3: get yeah, you're like, what are you doing?
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Another thing that I realized after rushing was that you're
- 15:44Speaker 1: not necessarily dropped from a sorority based on that they
- 15:48Speaker 1: didn't like you. A lot of it has to do
- 15:50Speaker 1: with they know that you're going to go another house
- 15:53Speaker 1: and they're giving the spot to someone else. You could
- 15:56Speaker 1: think that like, you had an amazing conversation with someone,
- 15:59Speaker 1: but they just know that you're not going to choose
- 16:02Speaker 1: this sorority in the end, and so they're going to
- 16:04Speaker 1: go with another girl that they would rather have.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Okay, well, here's what I'm going to say is I
- 16:08Speaker 3: think this is super specific to the school because we
- 16:12Speaker 3: weren't able to like handpick who. It's all about scores
- 16:18Speaker 3: that everyone gave, so we weren't like, oh, they're probably
- 16:20Speaker 3: going to go them. I'm going to give them a
- 16:22Speaker 3: lower score. You just gave them a score based off
- 16:24Speaker 3: of their you know, your experience with them, and then
- 16:28Speaker 3: it was all about the cumulative score that they had
- 16:31Speaker 3: and if they chose you again.
- 16:33Speaker 6: It's such an interesting point though, because what you brought up, Emma,
- 16:37Speaker 6: because like then, what we were talking about earlier with
- 16:40Speaker 6: if knowing someone helps, then it also can not help
- 16:43Speaker 6: you because if you're best friends with a girl in
- 16:45Speaker 6: one swarty and you're trying to get into another but
- 16:48Speaker 6: they know that's your best friend's sister, cousin, whatever, then
- 16:50Speaker 6: maybe they don't take you because they're like, we don't
- 16:52Speaker 6: have a shot with her. Even though a lot of
- 16:54Speaker 6: girls are always open yeah to some girls want to
- 16:57Speaker 6: do something different than their best friend's sister would. So
- 17:00Speaker 6: like it's really an interesting conversation of does it help
- 17:03Speaker 6: you or hurt you? And I feel like it differs.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Emma, for your school for a Boulder, was it
- 17:23Speaker 3: about cumulative score or someone But you're kind of talking
- 17:27Speaker 3: about like you could pick and choose kind of who
- 17:29Speaker 3: was coming in when it came to that final round,
- 17:32Speaker 3: like we're going to give her a bit or not
- 17:34Speaker 3: versus us. It was just about who were the top
- 17:36Speaker 3: girls based off their score at the top of our list.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Well, I mean it was also the amount of people
- 17:44Speaker 1: that we were allowed to take back each day, and
- 17:47Speaker 1: so then it came down to they didn't these people
- 17:51Speaker 1: all got great scores, but we had so many great scores.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So then there was lots of conversations. We had a
- 17:57Speaker 1: lot of conversations with like our standards of the sorority
- 18:04Speaker 1: and the recruitment chairs in terms of like who what
- 18:08Speaker 1: of these great girls do we get to pick? And
- 18:10Speaker 1: then you know, when it comes down to pref then
- 18:12Speaker 1: it's like you put all your best eggs in one
- 18:15Speaker 1: basket and then.
- 18:16Speaker 2: You don't even know if everyone's going to pick you.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I will say that my sorority for the longest time
- 18:23Speaker 1: had a ninety nine percent retention rate.
- 18:26Speaker 4: That's awesome, pretty great.
- 18:29Speaker 5: You guys were preffing hard. Were people crying?
- 18:31Speaker 1: To be honest, like I would like to say, I
- 18:34Speaker 1: was a great You prefer people cry during our pref
- 18:37Speaker 1: We have one of the most insane prefs. I bawled
- 18:40Speaker 1: my eyes out my senior and junior year pref because
- 18:42Speaker 1: we make it very emotional.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Sisterhood to speak my senior year, I get too twins.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Yeay, Yeah, that was special.
- 18:52Speaker 5: I always sang during preth Are you serious?
- 18:55Speaker 2: You're a little musical girl?
- 18:56Speaker 5: I like sing. I would sing.
- 18:59Speaker 2: You sing for usan's listening.
- 19:04Speaker 3: We sang, We sang, guys, We sang a cappella home.
- 19:08Speaker 6: You know, my Mumford and son yeah, let me come home.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You're so good.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Home is whenever I with you.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Oh my god, are you serious right now?
- 19:25Speaker 5: Wait?
- 19:25Speaker 2: You're oh my god.
- 19:31Speaker 6: One of many talents. Okay, you have many talents.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Blowouts included.
- 19:37Speaker 1: You have whatever storty girls are smart.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Art can do everything.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Okay, wait, I have another tip on the Instagram thing. Okay,
- 19:49Speaker 3: you need to follow. This is something I think it
- 19:52Speaker 3: is important. You need to follow every sorority at your school.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Even if you don't care what some of the stories
- 19:57Speaker 3: are doing, you have to follow.
- 19:59Speaker 4: That was something I would love for.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I'm like, are they just following the top ones or
- 20:02Speaker 3: are they following everyone?
- 20:03Speaker 1: To second this, do not talk s about other sororities
- 20:09Speaker 1: because other people are around you. Other people are they
- 20:12Speaker 1: will in.
- 20:14Speaker 2: The rogans are smarties.
- 20:17Speaker 1: The rogams are also in sororities, and if they hear
- 20:20Speaker 1: girls talking about their sorority or other sororities, it gets reported.
- 20:24Speaker 2: To panel and then you get dropped immediately.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And if you think it's just like you're disappointed or
- 20:29Speaker 1: you don't want to go see a house. At my school,
- 20:32Speaker 1: it was required that you visited every single house on
- 20:36Speaker 1: the first and every single house that brought you back.
- 20:40Speaker 4: To show up.
- 20:43Speaker 3: If you didn't show up for a round because you
- 20:45Speaker 3: were like, I'm not going to be this, and if
- 20:47Speaker 3: you if you were wait, we've had a conversation. We've
- 20:49Speaker 3: had an episode about this called throwing Around. If you
- 20:52Speaker 3: threw around or purposely did not show up to one,
- 20:56Speaker 3: you were dropped from recruitment entirely.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Yeah, no, that was.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Yeah, we're ours was the same. I don't know why
- 21:01Speaker 6: I reacted like that.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Curious. I was like, oh my gosh, that's so many.
- 21:03Speaker 4: But then I was like, wait, we all did that.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just trying to eat her kit cat.
- 21:10Speaker 6: I actually have like another topic. Okay, what I didn't
- 21:14Speaker 6: know how to gauge, like going into recruitment was like
- 21:17Speaker 6: how to really know what sority was your best fit?
- 21:19Speaker 6: And I'm curious what you guys were looking for, Like,
- 21:21Speaker 6: were you like hoping to connect with one girl specifically,
- 21:25Speaker 6: because I think I've definitely heard that a lot of
- 21:26Speaker 6: people will connect really well with an older girl and
- 21:30Speaker 6: then they go that sorority because of it, they have
- 21:32Speaker 6: an insane bond and then they're a freshmen and the
- 21:35Speaker 6: older girls a senior. And it's like I didn't like,
- 21:38Speaker 6: like connect with the girls like that in my own PC,
- 21:41Speaker 6: but I connected with the senior that's now graduating. So
- 21:43Speaker 6: I think it's really hard to know, like exactly how
- 21:46Speaker 6: to know what's your right fit. So I'm curious, like you,
- 21:49Speaker 6: how you guys knew.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So my sorority when we were going through recruitment, there
- 21:54Speaker 1: was a lot of talk in just have trust in
- 21:57Speaker 1: the process in terms of like if an older girl's
- 22:01Speaker 1: recruiting you and you don't think you're gonna get along
- 22:03Speaker 1: with the PC, perhaps or not even get along, but
- 22:06Speaker 1: just like you're not friendly with them, just trust that
- 22:08Speaker 1: the older girls are recruiting the younger girls that think
- 22:12Speaker 1: we all have the same minds and have the same interests,
- 22:16Speaker 1: Like it's all one collective group of girls that kind
- 22:20Speaker 1: of have similar likes and dislikes and values for the
- 22:23Speaker 1: most part.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that whichever you feel like aligns with
- 22:29Speaker 3: your values the most, and you can like I remember
- 22:31Speaker 3: I was at prep and I was there was one
- 22:33Speaker 3: sorority where I was like, these girls actually seem really
- 22:37Speaker 3: cool and they actually seem like they genuinely really like
- 22:40Speaker 3: each other, and the other one I was like, this
- 22:42Speaker 3: seems like a little bit of bs that I think
- 22:46Speaker 3: they're all like these are just crocodile tears or whatever.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I just think, like, trust your gut on it. But
- 22:53Speaker 3: also I do think that if there are girls in
- 22:55Speaker 3: the sorority, if you feel like, you know, you're really
- 22:59Speaker 3: interested in one subject or interested in one area or whatever,
- 23:02Speaker 3: and you can see that kind of represented within this sorority,
- 23:05Speaker 3: I do think that's important. Like if if you know,
- 23:09Speaker 3: you feel like the girls are pursuing their own things,
- 23:12Speaker 3: or they're all seem really smart or really academically inclined, like,
- 23:15Speaker 3: I think that's important too.
- 23:17Speaker 2: But I have another Oh well, to finish that off.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I have this one liner that my big told me
- 23:28Speaker 1: when she was pressing me, which then I passed on
- 23:30Speaker 1: to my little what I was pressing her, and it
- 23:35Speaker 1: was pick a house where you feel comfortable going number
- 23:40Speaker 1: two in.
- 23:42Speaker 3: It's not what I was a lot less cheesy than
- 23:44Speaker 3: I thought you were gonna say.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Yeah, like, if.
- 23:47Speaker 1: You can like picture like a house where you can
- 23:50Speaker 1: like sit on the toilet and poop and like people
- 23:54Speaker 1: are around you, pick that house.
- 23:56Speaker 6: And I was like, the last thing I was expecting
- 24:00Speaker 6: you to tell me is like pick a house, pick
- 24:03Speaker 6: a home, not ah, mine's a lot cheesier than that.
- 24:05Speaker 5: But at.
- 24:07Speaker 6: Oh, my best friend from high school pref to me,
- 24:11Speaker 6: and I remember she was like, I was torn. Even
- 24:16Speaker 6: though my best friend was in the house, I was
- 24:18Speaker 6: I was torn. And I remember she was like, you
- 24:20Speaker 6: need to like look around at the girls in line
- 24:22Speaker 6: and like the girls you're talking to before entering and
- 24:24Speaker 6: nextiting the house, and like, do you like see yourself
- 24:27Speaker 6: being in a PC with them? She's like, at the
- 24:29Speaker 6: end of the day, this is what I brought up earlier.
- 24:30Speaker 6: You can talk to all these older girls and they
- 24:31Speaker 6: can be amazing, but it's gonna be the girls in
- 24:34Speaker 6: your PC that are your best friends. And I remember
- 24:36Speaker 6: her being like, you need to like look like look
- 24:38Speaker 6: around this room right now, like do you see yourself
- 24:40Speaker 6: being in a PC with the girls in this room?
- 24:42Speaker 6: And I remember that was a big game changer for me.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Okay, because I do think this is a really good point,
- 24:47Speaker 3: And this leads me to my next question, because it
- 24:51Speaker 3: is all about the PC.
- 24:53Speaker 4: I know, bridesmaids like you really.
- 24:57Speaker 3: In the house with and I do think that like,
- 25:00Speaker 3: please fluctuate based off PC. The overall vibe tends to
- 25:03Speaker 3: be consistent, but like I do think it matters your PC.
- 25:07Speaker 3: And so here's my question to you guys, especially since
- 25:10Speaker 3: we all rushed, like right when we got to school
- 25:13Speaker 3: even before. If you made friends, you know, prior to
- 25:18Speaker 3: rush or during rush, do you think it's a good
- 25:20Speaker 3: idea to go a sorority just because?
- 25:23Speaker 4: Not just because, but say you're.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Torn and you have more friends that you know or
- 25:27Speaker 3: girls that you know that you get along with going
- 25:29Speaker 3: one sorority, should you go that sorority?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Well? I can't answer that because my roommate and my
- 25:39Speaker 1: best friend at the time best friend now not best
- 25:43Speaker 1: friend at the moment, because we just met each other,
- 25:46Speaker 1: we wouldn't tell each other which house is because we
- 25:48Speaker 1: really liked each other so much, and so we were
- 25:52Speaker 1: hoping that we would end up in the same sorority
- 25:54Speaker 1: based on our interests and based on the people that
- 25:57Speaker 1: we want to surround ourselves with.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Did you and we did?
- 26:00Speaker 5: Wow?
- 26:02Speaker 4: So that's and that's such a sign. Yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 1: So I feel like, you know, if you make the
- 26:08Speaker 1: wrong decision and you go a sorority that none of
- 26:10Speaker 1: your friends are and who cares it happens to people?
- 26:13Speaker 4: You can still be their best friend.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but also just go with your gut and like
- 26:18Speaker 1: you're gonna have a great time no matter what.
- 26:20Speaker 6: Sometimes people like like having their sorority be something kind
- 26:23Speaker 6: of separate than their friend group, and it's like where
- 26:24Speaker 6: they get involved in leadership and certain other aspects, and
- 26:27Speaker 6: it's kind of like, doesn't always have to be your
- 26:30Speaker 6: entire friend group and your sorority also because it's fun
- 26:34Speaker 6: to bring your friends as dates.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Yeah for sure.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 3: My best friend from college was my freshman year roommate,
- 26:39Speaker 3: and we we went different stories. We actually me and
- 26:44Speaker 3: all my rooms prefed the same sorority, but we all
- 26:47Speaker 3: ended up in different ones.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Oh that's crazy.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Because what she did, the one that she like that
- 26:53Speaker 3: we all preffed and then I ended up and the
- 26:55Speaker 3: one that I was like supposed to end up in,
- 26:57Speaker 3: but we had all kind of agreed that we were.
- 26:59Speaker 3: So sometimes you know, fate takes over. Yeah, the sororities
- 27:03Speaker 3: system takes over and might separate you. But I think
- 27:10Speaker 3: I do think, I don't know, especially for everyone going
- 27:13Speaker 3: into rush right now, you know, winter semester. I think
- 27:18Speaker 3: if you know a group of girls or already have
- 27:21Speaker 3: a group of girls that you're friends with, and you
- 27:23Speaker 3: are all I don't know interested in the same storty.
- 27:27Speaker 4: I don't think it's a.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Bad thing for you to go all go that same sorority.
- 27:33Speaker 2: No, I don't either.
- 27:34Speaker 6: I honestly would give the advice of what Emma did,
- 27:37Speaker 6: and I would not tell each other.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's what.
- 27:41Speaker 6: I would want to do if I was going into
- 27:42Speaker 6: second semester rush, which I've never done before. But I
- 27:44Speaker 6: would want to not tell each other because I would
- 27:47Speaker 6: hope that we'd all end up in the same sworty.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and kind of it works out.
- 27:52Speaker 6: And there's still going to be your friends if they
- 27:54Speaker 6: go a different sworty, so you should never feel like
- 27:55Speaker 6: pressure to all go the same sworty. Yeah, they'll still
- 27:58Speaker 6: be your best friends. Yeah, it's true.
- 28:02Speaker 3: The whole I think the whole truth of everything though,
- 28:04Speaker 3: is like nothing, None of it is that deep. It's like, yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 3: being in a sorority is really fun, but also and
- 28:12Speaker 3: getting involved as much as you want or whatever and
- 28:14Speaker 3: make the best friends you can, but also getting having
- 28:17Speaker 3: friends in different sororities or not in any sororities at all.
- 28:20Speaker 5: It's also important too.
- 28:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I really do feel strongly that everyone ends up
- 28:25Speaker 6: where they're supposed to be like, yeah, and I know
- 28:28Speaker 6: that's easier for me to say, and probably you guys
- 28:32Speaker 6: as people who probably had a good rush experience. From
- 28:34Speaker 6: what you guys are saying, it sounds like, but it's
- 28:38Speaker 6: just like even when I feel like someone it's like
- 28:41Speaker 6: sad because I know my sworty is dropping someone that
- 28:43Speaker 6: I really liked. It's like, I know they're going to
- 28:45Speaker 6: be happy where they're going next.
- 28:47Speaker 4: And they usually always are.
- 28:48Speaker 6: Yeah, So I do feel like it's like everything there's
- 28:51Speaker 6: a lot of want to put too much pressure on yourself,
- 28:54Speaker 6: like just because you think you want one sorority, Like
- 28:57Speaker 6: so many girls end up in a different sworty and
- 28:58Speaker 6: they're like, I can't even imagine what my life would
- 29:00Speaker 6: be like if I was in that sorty, Like because
- 29:03Speaker 6: I love my life right now and the girls I
- 29:04Speaker 6: met through my sorority that maybe you didn't want it first,
- 29:07Speaker 6: And I just do feel like everything happens for a
- 29:09Speaker 6: reason in that process.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Also, I think my last parting piece of advice is
- 29:16Speaker 3: that if you if you end up on bid day
- 29:20Speaker 3: and you end up in the sorority that you didn't
- 29:22Speaker 3: prep or didn't necessarily want, slap on a smile on
- 29:26Speaker 3: your face, agreed, and be happy of it, because I
- 29:29Speaker 3: so remember.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I still remember the girls.
- 29:32Speaker 3: That showed up to our mid day and did not
- 29:34Speaker 3: seem excited, and like we're almost like shedding a tear
- 29:37Speaker 3: because they wanted to be in another house. And you never
- 29:40Speaker 3: forget that because that makes you feel so icky. And
- 29:43Speaker 3: I just just keep an open mind, don't get just
- 29:48Speaker 3: and if you end up in this sorority that you
- 29:49Speaker 3: don't want, there's a reason behind it. And and also
- 29:52Speaker 3: it's really not that deep like you're gonna make friends anywhere.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Just just go in, especially if you stay open and
- 29:57Speaker 3: go in just with positivity.
- 30:00Speaker 5: That's what I would say.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Yeah, So for those rushing this January or February whenever
- 30:08Speaker 1: second specer rushes, go in with a big smount of
- 30:11Speaker 1: positive attitude and you're gonna kill it.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Yeah, an end up where you're supposed to be.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Yeah, sisters for life. It's just for life. And that'll
- 30:22Speaker 2: do it for Dirty Rush. Bye bye,
