- 2:40Speaker 2: Weather is going to be great for the Fall Festival
- 2:41Speaker 2: in Hurricane. which is Saturday, here via the Guaranty Bank
- 2:51Speaker 2: hotline to talk about it. Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards along
- 2:54Speaker 2: with Amanda Smith-Ramey. Amanda from the city, as we call
- 2:57Speaker 2: her in Hurricane. Good morning, guys. Welcome to the show. Hey,
- 3:01Speaker 2: good morning, Dave.
- 3:01Speaker 4: How are you doing?
- 3:02Speaker 2: I'm doing fine.
- 3:03Speaker 5: All right.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Make sure both of you are there. Okay. So I
- 3:06Speaker 2: promoted you, but you both got to be there.
- 3:09Speaker 4: All right. We are here, and we are ready for
- 3:11Speaker 4: a most beautiful day Saturday, Dave. It's going to be
- 3:14Speaker 4: 70 and sunny, and it's probably going to be the
- 3:16Speaker 4: best harvest festival weather we've ever had in Hurricane.
- 3:19Speaker 2: All right. The first thing that I thought when I
- 3:22Speaker 2: saw Brian's forecast this morning, because I know they were
- 3:24Speaker 2: calling for us to clear up a little bit, but, yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 2: it looks absolutely great. on saturday for the hurricane fall
- 3:30Speaker 2: festival any idea how long the festival has been going on.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Uh about 20 years about 20 years okay 20 years
- 3:39Speaker 4: yep sure.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Has amanda wasn't even born then um so um so
- 3:43Speaker 2: all the activities we're going to run it all down
- 3:45Speaker 2: for you the activities though that are are taking place
- 3:49Speaker 2: are free there will be food trucks will be charged
- 3:50Speaker 2: there but the activities are free run down some of
- 3:53Speaker 2: the things going on guys.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Okay, so it's 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Hurricane
- 3:58Speaker 4: City Park, and parking's free, admission to the event's free.
- 4:02Speaker 4: There's going to be about 65 local and regional vendors,
- 4:06Speaker 4: so you can come and buy stuff. There's going to
- 4:10Speaker 4: be food trucks. You can buy yourself some food. But
- 4:13Speaker 4: there's going to be a lot of free stuff for kids, inflatables,
- 4:15Speaker 4: Jupiter jumps, you know, things you like, Dave.
- 4:17Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Bouncy houses and slides. You like that stuff.
- 4:21Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But let me tell you what there's going to be,
- 4:24Speaker 4: a mechanical bull. And I would love to see you
- 4:26Speaker 4: on the mechanical bull. So I would pay for that.
- 4:29Speaker 4: So if you'd like to come down, we'll get you
- 4:31Speaker 4: on the bull. And the petting zoo, there'll be a
- 4:34Speaker 4: petting zoo there. What else, Amanda?
- 4:38Speaker 5: Lots of like old-fashioned games. We've got a face painting,
- 4:42Speaker 5: a photo booth, magic. Joey Stepp, our friend from down
- 4:47Speaker 5: here in Putnam County, is going to be doing balloon
- 4:49Speaker 5: animals and some magic shows at the top.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Of each hour. And I love this because it's a
- 4:54Speaker 2: really big focus on, again, a lot of the free
- 4:57Speaker 2: activities for the families, guys. That's fantastic.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and Truist has a pumpkin pie eating contest. So
- 5:05Speaker 4: 12 to 17, 18 and over, there's two different divisions.
- 5:08Speaker 4: The pumpkin pie eating contest, if you want, I'll save
- 5:11Speaker 4: you a slot and we'll sign you up for that too, Dave,
- 5:14Speaker 4: after you get off the mechanical bull.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I'm not a competitive eater, guys. I'm sorry. I like
- 5:18Speaker 2: my food, but it's not a sport for me. And
- 5:21Speaker 2: as far as that bull goes, Mayor, you know, I
- 5:23Speaker 2: just turned 56 yesterday. So I don't know that I
- 5:27Speaker 2: need to be getting on a bull.
- 5:29Speaker 4: You do. You do need to get on a bull.
- 5:31Speaker 4: If you come down, I'll... Say.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Yes, yes.
- 5:34Speaker 4: And let me tell you before we do forget.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:37Speaker 4: From 4 to 6 p.m., it's a gospel... bluegrass band
- 5:42Speaker 4: called The N Crowd. They are amazing. They travel all around.
- 5:46Speaker 4: My friends Jamie and Roger Hazlett, they're both in it
- 5:49Speaker 4: as well as the rest of the band. Probably the
- 5:51Speaker 4: best bluegrass gospel band that you could ever hear. They're amazing.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I like a little bluegrass when it comes to talking
- 5:58Speaker 2: about fall festivals. You know, I just think it kind of,
- 6:00Speaker 2: I don't know to me, it just kind of goes
- 6:01Speaker 2: along with it. It fits.
- 6:04Speaker 4: It fits perfect. And, you know, this is just the,
- 6:07Speaker 4: I believe, the second day of fall, I believe.
- 6:11Speaker 2: By that time, it'll be like the fourth day of
- 6:14Speaker 2: fall by that point, but that's okay. So everything starts
- 6:18Speaker 2: at one o'clock and again, it's at Hurricane City Park.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Do you still have vendor space available? Because that's a
- 6:23Speaker 2: big question we always get with these festivals. Is there
- 6:25Speaker 2: still vendor space if anybody would like to be a vendor?
- 6:28Speaker 5: We're pretty full on vendor space, but I do need
- 6:30Speaker 5: some pumpkin pie eating contestants. So if you want to
- 6:35Speaker 5: try to eat a pie the fastest, come on down.
- 6:37Speaker 2: All right. And so is there a prize for the
- 6:41Speaker 2: pumpkin pie eating contest?
- 6:42Speaker 5: $ 100 Walmart gift card.
- 6:45Speaker 8: Nice.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So you can go get some antacid at that point.
- 6:48Speaker 2: So that's great.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Now you're thinking about doing.
- 6:51Speaker 9: It, Dave.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 6:52Speaker 2: But seriously, if you're around, I want you on the bull.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'll see what I can do. I'm planning on being there.
- 7:01Speaker 2: There's a better chance I'll enter the pumpkin pie eating
- 7:03Speaker 2: contest than there is that I'll actually get on the
- 7:05Speaker 2: mechanical bull. So talk about your sponsors, because if you
- 7:08Speaker 2: didn't have your sponsors, it wouldn't happen.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Amanda, go ahead. Yep.
- 7:13Speaker 5: It's presented by Generations Ford, but we also have our
- 7:18Speaker 5: annual sponsors, Best Virginia, Cardinal Chevrolet, Family Wealth Group, Putnam
- 7:23Speaker 5: County Bank, martin's peterville along with a slew of others
- 7:27Speaker 5: we are just so thankful because this is how we
- 7:29Speaker 5: make everything free our sponsors are.
- 7:31Speaker 2: The best yeah they are and they always step up
- 7:33Speaker 2: in in the in the area uh whenever you want
- 7:35Speaker 2: to try to pull something off like this because again
- 7:37Speaker 2: a lot of these activities you they're free because of
- 7:39Speaker 2: those of those sponsors and again i hate to keep
- 7:42Speaker 2: going i hate to keep going back to the weather
- 7:44Speaker 2: but man you guys you can't you can't beat the
- 7:46Speaker 2: weather and what it's going to be on saturday it's
- 7:48Speaker 2: going to be i don't really want to call it
- 7:50Speaker 2: cool but it's going to be in the low to
- 7:52Speaker 2: you know to low 70s, and it'll start to chill
- 7:57Speaker 2: down when you get about 5 or 6 o'clock or so.
- 7:59Speaker 2: But it's absolutely going to be picture perfect.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Lunchable sunshine is the forecast I've seen, so that's, yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And if people want to learn more about it, where
- 8:10Speaker 2: can they go to the city's Facebook page, I guess?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yep, city's Facebook page, HurricaneWV.com. And I'll tell you, Dave,
- 8:18Speaker 4: I'll do this. I'll give $ 200 of my own money
- 8:21Speaker 4: to your charity of your choice if you get on
- 8:23Speaker 4: the bull and last at least eight seconds.
- 8:25Speaker 2: What is your obsession with me getting on this bull, Mayor?
- 8:29Speaker 4: Because we've been friends a long time, and you're getting
- 8:31Speaker 4: on the bull. Amanda, what's the name of the bull?
- 8:35Speaker 5: Buck Norris.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Buck north nice buck north so it's dave and buck north.
- 8:40Speaker 2: But there you go dave and.
- 8:43Speaker 5: I'll have some free cotton candy for you when you.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Get off and i will know what you need is
- 8:47Speaker 2: a heating pad when i get off of it that's
- 8:49Speaker 2: what i need you know our uh our sister station
- 8:51Speaker 2: 961 kws our truck is called truck north so maybe
- 8:54Speaker 2: i'll drive truck north and get on buck perfect so
- 8:57Speaker 2: there you go uh starts at one o'clock uh hurricane
- 9:00Speaker 2: city park what about parking guys.
- 9:03Speaker 4: There's parking at the park. There's parking across the street.
- 9:06Speaker 4: There's parking everywhere along Taze Valley Road.
- 9:10Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Take a spot and park.
- 9:12Speaker 2: All right, Andy. It's 1 to 6, Hurricane City Park.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It's their annual fall festival. Been going on about 20
- 9:17Speaker 2: years or so. Mayor Scott Edwards, Amanda from the city,
- 9:20Speaker 2: I appreciate you both being here, and I will see
- 9:21Speaker 2: you on Saturday. Thanks a lot.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Have a great day.
- 9:24Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Looking forward to it.
- 9:26Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Thanks, guys.

- 13:08Speaker 2: Good morning. I'm doing well. Came in here talking about
- 13:11Speaker 2: me riding that mechanical bull, you know. $ 200 donation is
- 13:14Speaker 2: not worth.
- 13:17Speaker 7: The $ 1, 000 ambulance ride.
- 13:20Speaker 2: So what was your birthday? It was yesterday.
- 13:23Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 2: You're 50 what?
- 13:24Speaker 1: 56.
- 13:25Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah. No, it's going to be, it's a $ 1, 500
- 13:27Speaker 7: ambulance ride because you're going to break multiple bones.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I mean, you don't have a lot of confidence in me, man.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I mean, I was quite the athlete back in the day. Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 2: I was too.
- 13:36Speaker 4: No, I wasn't.
- 13:39Speaker 2: We were all great. Yeah, in our minds. Yeah, that's right.
- 13:42Speaker 12: We were all great.
- 13:42Speaker 7: Speaking of which, how about them Cowboys? How about them Cowboys?
- 13:45Speaker 7: You know, when the Mountaineers and the Cowboys win in
- 13:47Speaker 7: the same weekend, it's a great weekend. Throwing Marshall in
- 13:50Speaker 7: there too for me.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And I actually went to the WVU game. That was,
- 13:53Speaker 2: it was a great game. Oh, you were down in Charlotte?
- 13:55Speaker 2: I was in Charlotte. With what, 70,000 other WVU fans?
- 13:59Speaker 2: Because I think they pretty much took over the stadium.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It was a home game.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It really was.
- 14:03Speaker 7: And I saw a lot of UVA folks posting afterwards
- 14:06Speaker 7: that they were upset by the lack of participation by
- 14:10Speaker 7: the UVA fans. I mean, but it was golden blue,
- 14:12Speaker 7: the whole stadium. It was a few, few little orange spots,
- 14:16Speaker 7: but not very many, but it was, It's an incredible game.
- 14:18Speaker 7: And I left there and I told my wife, I said,
- 14:21Speaker 7: I may have to admit that I was wrong about
- 14:23Speaker 7: Rich Rod. Really?
- 14:24Speaker 2: I was not in favor of them bringing him back.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I wasn't. I was not.
- 14:27Speaker 7: And I remember Doug Scaff and I, we had a
- 14:29Speaker 7: bunch of arguments over it. But because he was a
- 14:32Speaker 7: big proponent of bringing Rod back. And honestly, I think he,
- 14:35Speaker 7: I think Doug was right.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Because that's a different team. That is a different team.
- 14:39Speaker 2: It is a different team. And look, you know, college
- 14:41Speaker 2: football is, Almost like high school football, sadly, you're looking
- 14:44Speaker 2: at different players every year. They always use the term
- 14:49Speaker 2: rebuilding year. Every year in college athletics is a rebuilding
- 14:52Speaker 2: year now.
- 14:53Speaker 12: Absolutely.
- 14:53Speaker 7: No matter what the school is. Yeah, but that team
- 14:55Speaker 7: has an edge. You can tell.
- 14:56Speaker 2: They are hard. I mean, they were knocking people out.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I want to talk about the Clean Seas West Virginia project, Ben.
- 15:03Speaker 2: This is the proposed plastic recycling facility in Bell located
- 15:07Speaker 2: in the former 84 Lumber Property, DuPont Avenue there. There
- 15:10Speaker 2: was a public meeting held about the other night. Take
- 15:12Speaker 2: it from there. Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 7: So back in July, we had several people, several, I mean,
- 15:18Speaker 7: probably 30 or 40 come to the commission and express
- 15:22Speaker 7: concern about the Clean Seas Project. And then we took
- 15:26Speaker 7: all their concerns. We put it in a letter and
- 15:28Speaker 7: we sent it to the DEP because Clean Seas is a, basically,
- 15:32Speaker 7: it's a plastic recycling plant. And it's going to be
- 15:35Speaker 7: in Bell, West Virginia.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 7: And people were very concerned about it. So we listened
- 15:40Speaker 7: to their concerns. They had a petition with over 1,100
- 15:43Speaker 7: signatures from residents opposing the project. So you have to
- 15:47Speaker 7: go back probably, I don't know, three or four years.
- 15:50Speaker 7: Clean Seas made a pitch to the governor at that
- 15:52Speaker 7: time to put this plant there. It was going to
- 15:55Speaker 7: create 40 jobs. They needed some financial assistance from the state.
- 15:59Speaker 7: And all of that went through. As it kind of
- 16:02Speaker 7: unfolded after that, There's been a lot of concerns just
- 16:06Speaker 7: about the viability, the financial viability of the company. If
- 16:10Speaker 7: you look up their finances, it does not paint a
- 16:13Speaker 7: pretty picture. You know, they're actually trading. You can get
- 16:16Speaker 7: a couple shares of clean seas for a penny. So,
- 16:19Speaker 7: you know, financially, they're not in great shape. But they
- 16:23Speaker 7: did get, I think, a $ 15 million loan from the state.
- 16:26Speaker 7: They got another $ 1. 75 million grant. And I'm all about jobs.
- 16:31Speaker 7: I want to bring in as many things that we
- 16:33Speaker 7: can to create jobs, but this one is a little concerning.
- 16:36Speaker 7: And so there was a public meeting. They invited, I think,
- 16:39Speaker 7: 168 elected officials. Several elected officials showed up, and the
- 16:45Speaker 7: public just expressed their concern. It was kind of a
- 16:47Speaker 7: Q & A. They were able to ask the elected
- 16:49Speaker 7: officials questions, and they put on a very, very good presentation.
- 16:54Speaker 7: The folks that are kind of running the opposition against
- 16:56Speaker 7: Clean Seas put on a very persuasive and effective presentation.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Is the most of their concerns like environmental? Mostly environmental.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Mostly it's not like a traffic situation or anything like
- 17:08Speaker 2: that about adding people. And how many jobs would it
- 17:10Speaker 2: be approximately? About 40, I think is what they're projecting.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's great. Like you said, we're all about jobs.
- 17:15Speaker 2: That's great.
- 17:15Speaker 7: But it's not like it's a new core or anything
- 17:17Speaker 7: like that. Definitely not. But so the gist of their
- 17:21Speaker 7: concern is there's really no air monitoring in that area,
- 17:24Speaker 7: even though you've got some other chemical plants. There's no
- 17:27Speaker 7: air monitoring. So they want air monitoring. They don't They
- 17:29Speaker 7: don't want it to happen at all because it is
- 17:32Speaker 7: right across the street from Riverside High School. And so
- 17:35Speaker 7: you had, there was one high school student that spoke.
- 17:37Speaker 7: There were a lot of residents that spoke. And they
- 17:41Speaker 7: had really done a deep dive on Clean Seas. And
- 17:44Speaker 7: so if you hear the name Clean Seas, obviously you're
- 17:47Speaker 7: thinking this is nice. It's going to be an environmentally
- 17:50Speaker 7: friendly company. They're going to take plastic out of the ocean.
- 17:54Speaker 7: They're going to take plastic out of landfills. And then
- 17:56Speaker 7: they're going to ship it to Bell, West Virginia to
- 17:58Speaker 7: basically burn it And the burning process is the concern
- 18:03Speaker 7: for the residents there because they're worried about air quality.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Talking again with Kanawha County Commission President Ben Salango. So
- 18:10Speaker 2: where does everything now, Ben?
- 18:11Speaker 7: So if you look at the company's website, they say
- 18:14Speaker 7: they are under construction. They're in the old 84 Lumber
- 18:17Speaker 7: Building in Quincy. And I think they said it was
- 18:22Speaker 7: a 60,000 square foot facility. They claim that they're under
- 18:25Speaker 7: construction since early 2025. They finally got their DEP air
- 18:33Speaker 7: permit around August 14, according to a press release from
- 18:38Speaker 7: the company. The company appears to be based in Los Angeles.
- 18:42Speaker 7: So they applied for the permit. The county commission sent
- 18:47Speaker 7: a letter to DEP on July 26, expressing all the
- 18:50Speaker 7: concerns from the residents. We even included a copy of
- 18:53Speaker 7: the 1,100 signatures from the petition that and kind of
- 18:57Speaker 7: detailed over a four or five page letter what the
- 19:00Speaker 7: residents are really worried about. The DEP approved it anyway.
- 19:04Speaker 7: And so we asked in the alternative, if it's going
- 19:06Speaker 7: to be approved, we would like there to be air monitoring.
- 19:10Speaker 7: Because I think if there's not an air quality issue,
- 19:14Speaker 7: I think the majority of concerns of the residents would
- 19:19Speaker 7: probably be eased. But I mean, they have other concerns.
- 19:22Speaker 7: For instance, if the company has financial issues, are they
- 19:27Speaker 7: going to start short-cutting safety? Are we going to have
- 19:29Speaker 7: some type of chemical incident there? So those are legitimate concerns,
- 19:34Speaker 7: but I think the primary concern is air quality. Why
- 19:36Speaker 7: did they choose Bell, in your opinion? I mean, did
- 19:38Speaker 7: they indicate why that particular location? I think the property
- 19:42Speaker 7: was available. I think they were looking to, yeah, I mean,
- 19:46Speaker 7: that's a big deal, you know, to be able to
- 19:47Speaker 7: find the property that is suitable for what you're trying
- 19:50Speaker 7: to do. I think they were looking for some type
- 19:52Speaker 7: of entry into the U.S.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Market.
- 19:55Speaker 7: I think they have other facilities, maybe in India or elsewhere.
- 19:58Speaker 7: I believe this is their first facility in the United States.
- 20:03Speaker 7: And I think that's because they were able to get
- 20:05Speaker 7: some assistance from the state government. I think that's why
- 20:08Speaker 7: they chose Bell. And, you know, this is, I am
- 20:11Speaker 7: not critical of any representative that is out there trying
- 20:14Speaker 7: to bring business in. I think that is, it's very important,
- 20:17Speaker 7: particularly in that area. And, you know, the decline of
- 20:19Speaker 7: coal in the Upper Kanawha Valley has been a big deal.
- 20:22Speaker 7: It's an incredible impact on that area. But I think
- 20:26Speaker 7: the residents are very concerned about this place.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Now, I know you can't speak for Commissioners Tennant and Gessel,
- 20:35Speaker 2: but being Commission President, Do you have a position on this?
- 20:38Speaker 2: I mean, I know the letters that the commission as
- 20:40Speaker 2: a whole has sent, but do you personally or do
- 20:42Speaker 2: you want to speak to that? Yeah, and I can
- 20:43Speaker 2: say this.
- 20:44Speaker 7: I worry that a company that speaks only through press
- 20:47Speaker 7: releases and doesn't really come out and educate the public,
- 20:50Speaker 7: I think you're planning for failure. I think the people
- 20:55Speaker 7: are really concerned, and there has been zero response from
- 20:58Speaker 7: Clean Seed's. So I would encourage them to come out
- 21:01Speaker 7: and explain some of these issues or at least alleviate
- 21:04Speaker 7: some of the fears of the residents about air quality.
- 21:06Speaker 7: If you're not going to have emissions that are going
- 21:09Speaker 7: to be concerning, then come out and say that, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 7: at least have a town hall.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Talk to these folks.
- 21:16Speaker 7: Clean Seas, they were invited to this meeting the other
- 21:19Speaker 7: day and they didn't show. They could even have appeared
- 21:21Speaker 7: by Zoom. I mean, just jump on a Zoom for
- 21:22Speaker 7: an hour and explain these positions. I think the lack
- 21:25Speaker 7: of communication.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I mean, that to me right there, I mean, I
- 21:29Speaker 2: don't have a dog in his fight, Ben, but I'll
- 21:31Speaker 2: say to me that would be a deal breaker right
- 21:34Speaker 2: there for me, that you have a town hall and
- 21:36Speaker 2: you could Zoom. As you said, you could add prerecorded
- 21:39Speaker 2: comments or something, nothing at all. Nothing, not a peep.
- 21:42Speaker 7: So I think if they would do that and explain
- 21:44Speaker 7: some of the concerns, but until they do that, I'm
- 21:46Speaker 7: opposed to it. I think they need to really come
- 21:48Speaker 7: out and do some education work. unless what the residents
- 21:53Speaker 7: are saying is true. And then, you know, keep hiding
- 21:56Speaker 7: in Los Angeles and don't say anything because it looks
- 21:58Speaker 7: like it's going to go through, assuming they have the
- 22:00Speaker 7: money to complete the project. But if you really want
- 22:04Speaker 7: to have buy-in from the community, then come out and
- 22:06Speaker 7: talk to the community.
- 22:07Speaker 2: But there's nothing really that the community can do. I mean,
- 22:09Speaker 2: this is a private entity we're talking about. As long
- 22:12Speaker 2: as they do all the things, the paperwork and the taxes,
- 22:14Speaker 2: and they've got the loan from the state, they can
- 22:16Speaker 2: still do what they want. So you're not going to
- 22:18Speaker 2: stop it unless they just decide not to do it themselves. Correct.
- 22:21Speaker 7: And that's kind of what I've tried to explain to
- 22:22Speaker 7: the residents. And this is that, you know, they came
- 22:24Speaker 7: to the commission in July.
- 22:25Speaker 2: We chatted.
- 22:26Speaker 7: We went to the town hall, Commissioner Gessel and I,
- 22:29Speaker 7: Commissioner Tennant. had another event that she was attending. So
- 22:33Speaker 7: we kind of divided and conquered. So when we went,
- 22:37Speaker 7: I tried to explain to them that from the local level,
- 22:39Speaker 7: there's not a whole lot we can do. This is
- 22:40Speaker 7: kind of, it's upstream, if you will. And so then,
- 22:45Speaker 7: but I told them that I would send another letter, again,
- 22:48Speaker 7: expressing concern. And I want to invite Clean Seas to
- 22:51Speaker 7: at least jump on a Zoom or you know, if
- 22:55Speaker 7: you're actually in there remodeling the old 84 Lumber Building,
- 22:58Speaker 7: then you've got somebody there that could probably talk to us.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Just talk to the residents. I mean, I think you
- 23:02Speaker 7: need to be a good corporate community partner. And if
- 23:07Speaker 7: that is, if your intention is to, you know, just
- 23:09Speaker 7: ram this down everybody's throats, then so be it. But
- 23:12Speaker 7: don't expect for, you know, the community to be happy
- 23:15Speaker 7: about it.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Text, a plastic burning facility right next to a high school.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Only in an economically depressed state does plastic burning facility
- 23:22Speaker 2: get approved. To be next to a high school, it's sad.
- 23:25Speaker 12: Agreed.
- 23:26Speaker 9: Agreed.
- 23:27Speaker 7: And I think a lot of times we're so desperate
- 23:28Speaker 7: for jobs and we're so desperate for industry that we
- 23:34Speaker 7: take those types of shortcuts. And it's unfortunate. But, again,
- 23:37Speaker 7: no criticisms of the folks that worked hard to bring
- 23:39Speaker 7: in jobs. I appreciate that. but I think the residents
- 23:44Speaker 7: are very concerned about the type of industry that they're running.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Has there been any comment from anybody on the state level?
- 23:49Speaker 2: I mean, the people that helped to bring this in?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Have they been part of the meetings?
- 23:54Speaker 7: There was no response to our letter. We sent the
- 23:56Speaker 7: letter on July 26 to the DEP. There was no response.
- 24:01Speaker 7: To my knowledge, I don't think there's been any response
- 24:04Speaker 7: to the community from DEP, other than approving the air quality.
- 24:09Speaker 2: The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live brought to you
- 24:11Speaker 2: in part by the Charleston Dirty Birds Go-Mart Ballpark being
- 24:13Speaker 2: transformed into an outdoor movie theater. October the 9th for
- 24:17Speaker 2: the Halloween double feature sponsored by the Ark of the
- 24:19Speaker 2: Three Rivers. Come see Hocus Pocus, followed by the Addams
- 24:22Speaker 2: Family at the ballpark starting at 7 o'clock. Details visit DirtyBirdsBaseball.com. Ben,
- 24:27Speaker 2: when voters go to the polls in Kanawha County for
- 24:30Speaker 2: the general election November 3rd, they're going to be asked
- 24:31Speaker 2: to vote on the continuation of a levy for education.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Same one. That's been in place since, I think, 1937.
- 24:39Speaker 1: 1937.
- 24:39Speaker 2: And the commission is behind this.
- 24:41Speaker 12: We are.
- 24:41Speaker 7: And first of all, this is not a tax increase.
- 24:46Speaker 7: This is a continuation of the school levy. Now, what
- 24:49Speaker 7: does the school levy do? That's our infrastructure. That is
- 24:53Speaker 7: your AC units. That's your roof. That's your buses. The
- 24:59Speaker 7: things that the Board of Education needs are, to operate
- 25:04Speaker 7: the school system. And quite frankly, it's vital. And I
- 25:07Speaker 7: think that's why it's passed every time since 1937. But
- 25:10Speaker 7: we want to just make sure that people understand that
- 25:12Speaker 7: this is not a tax increase. This is simply a continuation.
- 25:16Speaker 7: But that money is vital for the operation of the
- 25:19Speaker 7: school system.
- 25:20Speaker 2: If that fails... We have a big problem in Kanawha County.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Big problem. A bigger problem. Bigger problem.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 7: I mean, you know, the school system is incredibly expensive.
- 25:30Speaker 7: It takes a lot of money. I forget what the
- 25:32Speaker 7: budget is. It's like 300 and some million dollars to operate.
- 25:36Speaker 7: But this type of, this levy is particularly important because
- 25:41Speaker 7: of what it's used for. And they also use it
- 25:43Speaker 7: for athletic fields and they use it for transportation, you know,
- 25:46Speaker 7: for the students from on events and But the primary
- 25:51Speaker 7: purpose is infrastructure in the schools. And that's why I'm
- 25:55Speaker 7: supporting it. That's why the Kanawha County Commission is unanimously
- 25:58Speaker 7: supporting it. And I'm hoping that everybody else will support
- 26:01Speaker 7: it as well. You got a new commissioner in there,
- 26:03Speaker 7: Austin Gessel. We interviewed him on the day that he
- 26:05Speaker 7: was sworn in. Of course, he took place of Lance Wheeler,
- 26:08Speaker 7: who's running the Ambulance Service Authority now.
- 26:10Speaker 2: How's that working out with Commissioner Gessel? Oh, very well.
- 26:14Speaker 7: He attended the town hall with me and Bell. And
- 26:17Speaker 7: he's going to a lot of events. We went to
- 26:20Speaker 7: the groundbreaking for the new law enforcement training center out
- 26:24Speaker 7: at Camp Virgil Tate. And by the way, there were
- 26:27Speaker 7: a lot of comments on that about whether or not
- 26:30Speaker 7: that was going to end Camp Virgil Tate.
- 26:31Speaker 2: It is not.
- 26:32Speaker 7: It's a separate piece of property. There has been a
- 26:34Speaker 7: shooting range out there for many, many years. This is
- 26:38Speaker 7: just an upgrade because there are about 40 law enforcement
- 26:41Speaker 7: agencies that use that facility. And it was unsafe. Part
- 26:44Speaker 7: of the facility was actually falling over a hill. And
- 26:47Speaker 7: so we are going in and fixing that and then
- 26:50Speaker 7: adding an indoor or a covered shooting range. One of
- 26:54Speaker 7: the reasons we do that is they actually bring old
- 26:58Speaker 7: vehicles in and they train to shoot into and out
- 27:03Speaker 7: of vehicles. Now, there were a lot of questions with that.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Why do you have to train to do that? Because
- 27:06Speaker 7: that happens all the time.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I'm sure it does.
- 27:08Speaker 7: You'd be surprised the number of times when law enforcement
- 27:11Speaker 7: is at a traffic stop or they're doing crowd control
- 27:17Speaker 7: and a vehicle is trying to run them over. And
- 27:19Speaker 7: so it's very important that they learn to be able
- 27:22Speaker 7: to defend themselves and defend the public in that type
- 27:25Speaker 7: of situation.
- 27:26Speaker 2: So that's why we do it.
- 27:27Speaker 7: In fact, after that was posted and there was some
- 27:31Speaker 7: comments on social media that people would screenshot. I usually
- 27:34Speaker 7: don't read the comments, but people screenshot and send it
- 27:36Speaker 7: to me. Don't read the comments. I wanted to post
- 27:39Speaker 7: some of these YouTube videos that I've seen of law
- 27:42Speaker 7: enforcement out just doing their jobs and people trying to
- 27:45Speaker 7: run over them. And in fact, running over them. So
- 27:49Speaker 7: you've got to learn. You've got to be able to.
- 27:50Speaker 7: You've got to be trained to do that. And so
- 27:53Speaker 7: the goal is to have the best trained law enforcement
- 27:57Speaker 7: we could possibly have. Got a couple minutes left. Anything
- 27:59Speaker 7: else on your mind you want to bring up today?
- 28:01Speaker 7: I'll tell you, we've got a lot going on at
- 28:02Speaker 7: the County Commission. We've got our next meeting on October 1st.
- 28:09Speaker 7: We're kind of putting together the agenda now. We're probably
- 28:13Speaker 7: going to revisit the Clean Seas issues. We're going to
- 28:16Speaker 7: send another letter to the state about the residents' concerns.
- 28:21Speaker 7: We've got the transmission line that's coming through. Of course,
- 28:26Speaker 7: there's no projected path for that transmission line yet. We're
- 28:30Speaker 7: waiting to see what happens with it. I think the
- 28:34Speaker 7: company put out a release yesterday or at least sent
- 28:37Speaker 7: an email indicating that they have not decided on what
- 28:41Speaker 7: the path is. But there are a lot of residents
- 28:43Speaker 7: concerned about that. They don't want that line crossing their farmland.
- 28:46Speaker 7: They don't want it destroying their property. There are a
- 28:50Speaker 7: lot of issues with that line, that transmission line. So
- 28:54Speaker 7: we're kind of monitoring that. And Obviously, we're watching the weather.
- 28:59Speaker 7: There's a lot going on.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Hopefully.
- 29:02Speaker 12: All right.
- 29:03Speaker 2: The most controversial thing that you have ever done as
- 29:06Speaker 2: county commissioner.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Halloween. Trick-or-treating. The two things, as I've talked to the
- 29:13Speaker 2: mayor about, I've talked to other mayors about, the two
- 29:15Speaker 2: things that get people up in arms more than anything else,
- 29:17Speaker 2: Christmas parades and trick-or-treating. Explain trick-or-treating in Kanawha County.
- 29:22Speaker 7: Well, it's going to be really easy to explain now
- 29:25Speaker 7: because we had– it is– It's almost comical to me
- 29:29Speaker 7: how much heat we get over Halloween.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Two hours.
- 29:33Speaker 7: And I get it, man. It's a big deal. I
- 29:37Speaker 7: love when I was growing up, my mom and dad
- 29:39Speaker 7: would take me trick or treating. and, you know, by
- 29:41Speaker 7: the time, you know, half hour in, I was exhausted
- 29:43Speaker 7: and I'd want to go home. But, um, we, we
- 29:46Speaker 7: always tried to make, we wanted it to be as
- 29:48Speaker 7: safe as possible. So there's a lot that goes into that.
- 29:51Speaker 7: We look at the weather, we look at, um, do
- 29:53Speaker 7: we really want trick or treat to be on a, uh,
- 29:56Speaker 7: you know, on a Friday night football when you've got
- 29:58Speaker 7: a lot more teenagers on the roads. And so we
- 30:01Speaker 7: were trying to do this quite overcomplicated analysis. And so finally,
- 30:07Speaker 7: you know, we just got, we just said, wait a minute.
- 30:10Speaker 7: Trick or treat's going to be October 31. I don't
- 30:12Speaker 7: care if it falls on a Monday or a Friday
- 30:15Speaker 7: or a Sunday. Let's just have it then.
- 30:17Speaker 2: That's Halloween. And it's on a Saturday. That's a Saturday.
- 30:20Speaker 2: So you know you're going to get some grief for that.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I guarantee it. Because people are going to say, well,
- 30:24Speaker 2: that's when everybody's out you know, drinking. That's right. Because
- 30:28Speaker 2: they don't do it on Tuesday.
- 30:29Speaker 7: So, yeah, so Halloween, at least from the county's perspective,
- 30:35Speaker 7: is going to be on October 31 forever.
- 30:40Speaker 2: From now on.
- 30:40Speaker 7: That's just the way it is. And honestly, I really
- 30:43Speaker 7: think it's silly that the government gets involved on when
- 30:45Speaker 7: trick-or-treat is, right?
- 30:46Speaker 2: You can trick-or-treat in March if you want to. It
- 30:50Speaker 2: doesn't matter.
- 30:51Speaker 7: And, you know, so 107.3 always does the trunk Or
- 30:56Speaker 7: Beat or Trick or Beat over at Go Mart Park.
- 31:00Speaker 7: So that's a safe environment.
- 31:01Speaker 2: There's 10,000 others if you don't, I mean. There really are.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Every church has one. Every community has one. Every city
- 31:07Speaker 2: has one. So if you don't want to go out
- 31:09Speaker 2: on actual Halloween night, starting like, you know, last week,
- 31:13Speaker 2: there's a trunk or treat somewhere.
- 31:15Speaker 12: Right.
- 31:15Speaker 7: So if you're concerned about, you know, being out on
- 31:18Speaker 7: a Saturday with kids in costumes, and it is a concern,
- 31:21Speaker 7: you know, you put those little plastic masks on and
- 31:23Speaker 7: the visibility is reduced.
- 31:24Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 31:24Speaker 7: So it's kids will run out in front of a car.
- 31:27Speaker 7: And so, you know, those are legitimate issues. But if
- 31:30Speaker 7: you're concerned about it, take them over to Trick or Beat.
- 31:34Speaker 7: at GoMart Park and let them run through. There are
- 31:35Speaker 7: thousands of kids, and it's a blast. I go over
- 31:37Speaker 7: there and hand out candy. It's sold out every year.
- 31:39Speaker 2: It absolutely is. And I say sold out because the
- 31:41Speaker 2: tickets are free, but it's a ticketed event because of
- 31:45Speaker 2: the headcount. Well, I've got to know how much candy
- 31:47Speaker 2: to buy. Exactly right. Exactly right. And we do two sessions,
- 31:50Speaker 2: and the tickets will be available middle of October, and
- 31:54Speaker 2: we'll be talking about that as we get closer. But, yeah,
- 31:56Speaker 2: that's just kind of– yeah. But I applaud you as
- 31:59Speaker 2: somebody who doesn't have kids. It doesn't matter to me.
- 32:02Speaker 2: But October 31st is when it should be now. It's
- 32:06Speaker 2: Saturday night. Well, it's Friday night, and it was Wednesday
- 32:09Speaker 2: night's church night. It's October 31st.
- 32:11Speaker 7: And by the way, if you're upset about it, send
- 32:13Speaker 7: your email to Commissioner Austin Gessel, the new guy.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the head of the trick-or-treating committee, right?
- 32:21Speaker 7: Yeah, he is president of the trick-or-treat committee. Yeah, that's
- 32:24Speaker 7: your hazing there, buddy. Maybe we can post his email
- 32:27Speaker 7: and personal sell on that.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I'll do it. I don't care. I don't care. Kanawha
- 32:31Speaker 2: County Commission President Ben Salango, appreciate you being here. Oh,
- 32:33Speaker 2: I did have another text here for you about the
- 32:34Speaker 2: clean seeds, and then we'll go. Text said, I wonder
- 32:36Speaker 2: how many states clean seeds pitched to, and is West
- 32:40Speaker 2: Virginia the only one that agreed to give money?
- 32:42Speaker 7: My understanding is they pitched to one other state. I
- 32:46Speaker 7: believe it was God, I may get this wrong, but
- 32:48Speaker 7: I think it was Massachusetts.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Massachusetts said no. Okay. All right. Got to leave it there.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Appreciate you being here, Kamish. Thanks for having me.
- 32:54Speaker 6: Talk soon.
- 32:54Speaker 2: 20 minutes away from 10. We will take a break. Actress, singer, performer,

- 33:08Speaker 1: Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses want to thank you for
- 33:11Speaker 1: shopping locally.

- 34:01Speaker 15: you've been dreaming of is waiting on you now at
- 34:03Speaker 15: Walker Chevrolet. In the shadow of the interstate bridge, just

- 34:12Speaker 16: Hey, this is Bobbi Spry, and last year we purchased
- 34:14Speaker 16: a new HVAC system from Best Virginia Heating and Cooling.
- 34:17Speaker 16: During the inspection of our old unit, their technician discovered
- 34:20Speaker 16: a crack in the heat exchanger that was slowly leaking
- 34:23Speaker 16: carbon monoxide into our home. From that moment on, we
- 34:26Speaker 16: knew we chose the best. The best technicians and the
- 34:29Speaker 16: best service. Every technician is drug tested and background checked,

- 35:51Speaker 2: Lipton is here, a good friend of the program. How
- 35:53Speaker 2: you doing, Michael? Good to have you here.
- 35:54Speaker 18: Hey, thanks for having us, Dave. This is kind of
- 35:57Speaker 18: a special little thing we're going to talk about.
- 35:59Speaker 6: It is.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Actress, singer, all-around entertainment icon from right here in Charleston,
- 36:04Speaker 2: West Virginia, Ann Magnuson. Good morning. Welcome to the show.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Very nice to meet you. I've never met you.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Well, good morning, and it's very nice to meet you.
- 36:10Speaker 2: I've heard a lot about you.
- 36:11Speaker 6: Well, thank you.
- 36:12Speaker 2: And I've seen your work.
- 36:13Speaker 6: Well, I don't know if you're aware of my earliest work,
- 36:17Speaker 6: I was in probably this very studio on Romper Room
- 36:21Speaker 6: with Miss Marilyn, Marilyn Fletcher.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Marilyn Fletcher.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Wow.
- 36:24Speaker 6: And my mother used to work at WCHS writing copy.
- 36:29Speaker 15: Nice.
- 36:30Speaker 2: So you've got a history in this building. Now, you're
- 36:31Speaker 2: going to be performing as part of FestiFall at the
- 36:34Speaker 2: Empty Glass coming up on the 29th, more on that
- 36:37Speaker 2: coming up. But I want to talk about your career,
- 36:39Speaker 2: Charleston native. How did you get into the entertainment industry
- 36:42Speaker 2: and what was it about it that appealed to you?
- 36:45Speaker 6: Well, I got into it probably via romper room.
- 36:48Speaker 2: That's where it started.
- 36:49Speaker 6: And my mother was involved in the arts community here,
- 36:53Speaker 6: very much so. And I started, I did ballet with Mr.
- 36:58Speaker 6: Van Damme. I did the community theater. So what did
- 37:03Speaker 6: I like about it? Well, it was fun. I like
- 37:06Speaker 6: the camaraderie. I like people. I like the sort of,
- 37:12Speaker 6: The party atmosphere at times, but also the collaboration and
- 37:15Speaker 6: people getting together and solving certain problems. And there's a
- 37:19Speaker 6: lot of joy in it. There could be a lot
- 37:21Speaker 6: of maybe not so much joy, but you put up
- 37:25Speaker 6: with that for the joy.
- 37:26Speaker 2: And that's exactly what we're doing now.
- 37:30Speaker 6: Yes, we are. We're collaborating and working with Michael and
- 37:34Speaker 6: the Carpenter Ants and Ahmed Solomon from Mountain Stage. And
- 37:38Speaker 6: I've worked with them before. I love working with them
- 37:42Speaker 6: here in West Virginia. We've recorded a couple of things.
- 37:46Speaker 6: One is a song I wrote called Ghost Cat, which
- 37:48Speaker 6: is appropriate for the Halloween season.
- 37:51Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 37:52Speaker 6: And that is, we have Charlie McCoy, who's a famous
- 37:55Speaker 6: harmonica player.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, the best.
- 37:57Speaker 6: And we made a really, really fun video that is
- 38:01Speaker 6: on YouTube called Ghost Cat. So people should check that out.
- 38:05Speaker 6: And I did a cut for there. Christmas album that
- 38:08Speaker 6: was out last year called Let's Break Up Before Christmas.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I love it.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Yes, it's a little different than your usual Christmas.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I love it. So now you've done it all. I mean, stage, film, music, television.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Any preference or do you just like it all?
- 38:26Speaker 6: Well, I like live, performing live. Mm-hmm. And with a
- 38:31Speaker 6: band in particular. But my preference, I guess I don't
- 38:36Speaker 6: have a preference because one, if I get stuck in one,
- 38:40Speaker 6: it gets to be a bit of a bore. And
- 38:43Speaker 6: actually performing with a band never is boring, especially when
- 38:47Speaker 6: you're doing quasi psychedelic and whacked out post-punk music.
- 38:53Speaker 2: That's a good way to put it. And the one
- 38:56Speaker 2: band that you've been a part of 50 years. Is
- 39:00Speaker 2: that right?
- 39:01Speaker 6: Bong bong water oh that's um that actually it's it's
- 39:05Speaker 6: no 40 years is next year okay i'm sorry first
- 39:09Speaker 6: recording okay it feels like 500 years but we started
- 39:14Speaker 6: that in 80 started recording in 86 and the first
- 39:18Speaker 6: record which was an ep came out in 87 and
- 39:22Speaker 6: at the same time i was doing a film called
- 39:24Speaker 6: making mr right with john malkovich that came out in
- 39:28Speaker 6: 87 as well so i was playing both sides of
- 39:31Speaker 6: the fence in a way because I could, because I
- 39:35Speaker 6: was given the opportunity. And it's all theater, and I
- 39:40Speaker 6: enjoy storytelling, and it's all part of that. That tradition
- 39:44Speaker 6: that is very much an Appalachian tradition. Tradition of storytelling.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Michael, that's something you know a little bit about is
- 39:51Speaker 2: Appalachian traditions and storytelling.
- 39:53Speaker 18: Yeah, well, the fun part And the interesting part about
- 39:57Speaker 18: kind of reimagining these Bongwater songs is.
- 39:59Speaker 2: And the group is named Bongwater, by the way, just
- 40:01Speaker 2: to make sure people realize that.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Her group.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Her group is called Bongwater. Okay, go ahead.
- 40:06Speaker 6: We're allowed to say that on radio. Oh, yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you can.
- 40:09Speaker 6: We can't say that on TV next week when I
- 40:11Speaker 6: do live TV.
- 40:12Speaker 5: Oh, really?
- 40:13Speaker 2: We have no standards here, so go ahead, Michael.
- 40:17Speaker 18: But the interesting part about it is there are basically
- 40:21Speaker 18: scenarios for or opportunities for Ann to tell stories. So
- 40:25Speaker 18: all of the songs go in and out of songs
- 40:29Speaker 18: and stories.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Right. And most of the lyrics for bong water were
- 40:33Speaker 6: written here in, in West Virginia and refer to West Virginia.
- 40:37Speaker 6: Quite a few of them. I'd say, well, a large percentage.
- 40:41Speaker 6: So I'll be doing those particular, um, songs and telling
- 40:46Speaker 6: these stories, which a lot of them came from dreams.
- 40:49Speaker 6: And I always had a very vivid dream life, but
- 40:52Speaker 6: I started writing them down, uh, As a writing exercise
- 40:57Speaker 6: in the 80s, but they were so whacked out and
- 41:02Speaker 6: funny and fantastical that I wrote them down to tell
- 41:05Speaker 6: my friends so I didn't forget. And then they became
- 41:09Speaker 6: spoken word pieces and the basis for songs.
- 41:13Speaker 18: There's a great story in one of the songs, I
- 41:16Speaker 18: can't remember, but about Anne's mother having an encounter with
- 41:22Speaker 18: Timothy Leary.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Nice, okay.
- 41:25Speaker 6: That was in California.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I hope it ended well.
- 41:27Speaker 6: It did, yes, it did. But that's connected to one
- 41:31Speaker 6: of the opening songs, so you'll have to come to
- 41:33Speaker 6: the show to get it.
- 41:35Speaker 2: And Anne was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall
- 41:38Speaker 2: of Fame in 2013.
- 41:38Speaker 10: No, 18.
- 41:39Speaker 1: 18.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Oops, sorry.
- 41:40Speaker 6: Three and eight, they kind of.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Now, you're doing two shows at the Empty Glass as
- 41:48Speaker 2: part of festivals, 7 and 9 o'clock on the 29th.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Where are we on tickets on this? Because, Michael, you
- 41:53Speaker 2: and I had a little conversation that you said that
- 41:56Speaker 2: one of the shows may be sold out. Are you
- 41:57Speaker 2: getting close to being sold out?
- 41:59Speaker 6: Yeah, the 7 is sold out, but there might be
- 42:02Speaker 6: some tickets at the door.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:04Speaker 6: And 9.30 is when the second show begins. And they're
- 42:08Speaker 6: both the same set.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Okay.
- 42:10Speaker 6: And each set is maybe, well, we don't know how
- 42:13Speaker 6: long it's going to be. It can't be more than
- 42:15Speaker 6: an hour, but it's going to be jam-packed.
- 42:17Speaker 2: All right. And I've got to give a big shout-out
- 42:19Speaker 2: to one of our Guy's in one of our other
- 42:21Speaker 2: stations here. I'm sure you know him very well. It's
- 42:23Speaker 2: Shockley on 98.7 Amount of Wild and Wonderful Classic Rock.
- 42:26Speaker 2: He's a fan of yours.
- 42:27Speaker 8: Oh, yeah, I know.
- 42:28Speaker 6: Larry Shockley.
- 42:29Speaker 2: He was in the building earlier and talked to me.
- 42:32Speaker 2: He said, oh, you're going to love Anne. She's so cool.
- 42:35Speaker 2: And he told the story about he has a Corvair.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:38Speaker 2: And he talked about your, I guess, shared love of
- 42:40Speaker 2: Corvairs or something like that.
- 42:41Speaker 6: Well, I drove one in the filmmaking Mr. Right.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:45Speaker 6: It nearly toppled over when I— accelerated it, and I thought, oh,
- 42:50Speaker 6: Ralph Nader was right about these things.
- 42:53Speaker 2: That was my first car, too, a Corvair convertible. Well,
- 42:57Speaker 2: I've ridden in Shockleys a couple times with the top down.
- 43:00Speaker 2: It's an experience.
- 43:01Speaker 6: I saw him. I saw that Corvair on Washington Street,
- 43:06Speaker 6: and I said, I know who that is.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's he of the hair, as we call him,
- 43:10Speaker 2: Larry Shockley from our sister station, 98.7 Mountain. All right,
- 43:14Speaker 2: and I do want to do a little programming note here.
- 43:16Speaker 2: The director of FestiFall, Zach Harrell is going to be
- 43:18Speaker 2: on the show on Monday. And it is a pleasure
- 43:20Speaker 2: to have you on the show and get to meet you.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 43:23Speaker 2: And, Michael, always a pleasure to see you, and thank
- 43:25Speaker 2: you for setting this up. Shows are going to be
- 43:27Speaker 2: on the 29th as part of Festival, and you said
- 43:29Speaker 2: the 7 o'clock is sold out, but there may be
- 43:31Speaker 2: some leftover tickets at the door.
- 43:32Speaker 6: There might be, yeah.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 43:34Speaker 6: There might be a few, if you're lucky. If you're lucky.
- 43:36Speaker 6: But 930 is going to be a raucous.
- 43:38Speaker 1: All right.
- 43:38Speaker 6: They're both going to be raucous, but 930 will, you know,
- 43:42Speaker 6: the late shows always are.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Always are.
- 43:44Speaker 6: Get a little crazier. Right.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Guys, I appreciate you both being here. Thanks a lot. Hey, thanks.
- 43:49Speaker 2: It's 9.51. We'll take a break. Come back after this

- 49:04Speaker 2: company spoke at a Kanawha County school board a few
- 49:07Speaker 2: days ago. Some residents not happy at all. As I
- 49:11Speaker 2: understand it, the people that are pushing this new facility
- 49:16Speaker 2: in the former East Bank Middle School are also the
- 49:18Speaker 2: people in charge of a separate facility. facility in Shillian.
- 49:22Speaker 2: And the residents there definitely don't like that one. They

- 49:29Speaker 2: of a mess there in the neighborhood, according to people
- 49:31Speaker 2: that live there. I'm going to effort to try to

- 50:46Speaker 2: was good. Remember with Urkel? A little past my time.
- 50:48Speaker 14: A little past your time. I know my sister, who
- 50:50Speaker 14: is your age, loved that show. Everybody loved Andy Griffith.

- 51:20Speaker 2: and I'll ride in a sidecar. That's a little too much.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Mayor Edwards is trying to get me riding a bull.
- 51:24Speaker 9: A bull?
- 51:25Speaker 2: Yeah, at the Mechanical Bull.
- 51:27Speaker 12: Oh.
- 51:28Speaker 2: Hurricane Fall Festival has offered me $ 200 to ride this
- 51:31Speaker 2: Mechanical Bull, and the $ 200 will go to charity. But
- 51:34Speaker 2: as Salango said, well, you're going to have a $ 1, 500
- 51:36Speaker 2: ambulance bill when it's over.
- 51:37Speaker 12: Okay.
- 51:39Speaker 2: Well, Swango should pony up. Trust me, he would know
- 51:41Speaker 2: about ambulances and chasing them. But anyway, that's my friend.
- 51:45Speaker 2: I can say that. I can say that.
- 51:47Speaker 6: All right.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Ten seconds. What you got? I don't even know at
