- 0:00Speaker 1: But the one hundred million dollar brand that became a
- 0:02Speaker 1: household name, all of these accomplishments just to wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: and not own my company no more.
- 0:06Speaker 2: There was talk that you got evicted from your house
- 0:09Speaker 2: because of a bankruptcy. What happened?
- 0:11Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 0:12Speaker 1: I almost lost my mind. You have a lost one
- 0:15Speaker 1: hundred million dollar business. My old creditors were coming after
- 0:18Speaker 1: me because of the personal guaranteur. This is no longer
- 0:21Speaker 1: private information.
- 0:22Speaker 2: What challenges that you go through? How did you get
- 0:24Speaker 2: of that? Did you seek therapy?
- 0:25Speaker 1: Nobody understands what it feels like when you literally fighting
- 0:28Speaker 1: for your life, but you got to show up and
- 0:30Speaker 1: put a smile on your face. The messaging was I'm
- 0:32Speaker 1: building a billion dollar company, but it's not the money
- 0:35Speaker 1: that I want, it's where the money can provide. When
- 0:37Speaker 1: you get there, it's like, okay, this is that.
- 0:39Speaker 4: What's the most important thing you learned about yourself?
- 0:41Speaker 1: Leading with your heart is a great thing, but leading
- 0:43Speaker 1: with your heart can also make you go broke.
- 0:45Speaker 2: What's your thought process when I actually signing up for
- 0:47Speaker 2: a reality show?
- 0:48Speaker 1: When you think about the leverage that platforms like these bring,
- 0:52Speaker 1: My reasoning wasn't just one thing.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever seen anybody like you on
- 0:55Speaker 3: the show.
- 0:56Speaker 1: You can have a Bentley, but if you don't have
- 0:58Speaker 1: no engine in a Bentley, then where you gonna go?
- 1:01Speaker 2: All right, gosh, welcome back Atlanta edition. We got a
- 1:05Speaker 2: special guests. Really needs no introduction at this point. I mean,
- 1:08Speaker 2: you just talking about all the stuff that we've done
- 1:09Speaker 2: with her shows and events and so much stuff. Pinky
- 1:15Speaker 2: Coal a legend in the game, but it comes to
- 1:18Speaker 2: entrepreneurship and motivation is spreading game. Slutty Vegan has really
- 1:25Speaker 2: like been a staple in the community and really had
- 1:29Speaker 2: so many different stages up Like Slowey Vegan has like
- 1:32Speaker 2: had life stages.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It's like a baby right here.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Seen every stage from the first time that Mike told
- 1:39Speaker 4: us about it and told us about the lines, to
- 1:42Speaker 4: the road.
- 1:42Speaker 3: To the expansion end.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I feel like every stage, like we sit down with
- 1:47Speaker 4: you about it, it's like.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The life cycle. You know what I'm saying. So I
- 1:51Speaker 1: don't know. I just when I think about my business, didn't.
- 1:57Speaker 2: No, no, no no.
- 1:59Speaker 1: If you need no introduction, well, when I think about
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's funny. The reason why I said that because you
- 2:03Speaker 1: said something about a life cycle. So just like a
- 2:05Speaker 1: baby learns how to crawl, then learn how to walk.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But then the process of learning how to walk, sometimes
- 2:12Speaker 1: you will fall right and then you need some assistance sometimes,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and then you get back up and you get stronger,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and you get stronger from every single blump and bruise.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And that's similar to what Sluddy Vegan has been for
- 2:23Speaker 1: me as an entrepreneur. And I feel like it is
- 2:25Speaker 1: the quintessential example of like what really happens in entrepreneurship,
- 2:29Speaker 1: because everybody doesn't talk about the parts that I'm willing
- 2:32Speaker 1: to talk about. So I'm happy to be able to
- 2:35Speaker 1: share every single phase of that wit y'all.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Is that even just.
- 2:40Speaker 4: A microcosm for business? Right when we think about our businesses.
- 2:43Speaker 4: We've been for eight years.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And in terms of love, you sell a child, so
- 2:47Speaker 2: there are.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Things you need to learn and so you get to
- 2:48Speaker 3: that adult there. So we learned them together.
- 2:51Speaker 1: We learning them together, and I would not change it
- 2:53Speaker 1: for but girl lod and know I would not.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well, thank you for joining us, or it is a pleasure.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So we got allowed to talk about We're going some
- 3:03Speaker 2: about you know everything, the reality show aspect of it
- 3:07Speaker 2: that corelock. People watch the brise. But first, I know
- 3:11Speaker 2: last week you won a court case. So the social media,
- 3:14Speaker 2: we gotta we gotta address that because that's something that's
- 3:17Speaker 2: been over borrows. There's been a few things had on
- 3:20Speaker 2: social media. But one of the things that's happening is
- 3:24Speaker 2: there was talk that you got evicted from your house, yes,
- 3:28Speaker 2: because of a bankruptcy that you are You've been very
- 3:31Speaker 2: public about, you know, filing bankruptcy. We can talk about that.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But there was a video I thought it was a
- 3:37Speaker 2: comedy video. The way it was shocked, I'm not sure
- 3:40Speaker 2: if it was not. And then there was Romazo moves
- 3:44Speaker 2: whereas a husband at how is this happening? D D, like,
- 3:48Speaker 2: so what happened? What's going.
- 3:52Speaker 3: You know?
- 3:53Speaker 1: It's so funny because when I think about my decision
- 3:57Speaker 1: to join in Real Housewives of at Mahanna, I already
- 4:00Speaker 1: knew what I was signing up for. When you position
- 4:04Speaker 1: yourself to be on a public platform, people are going
- 4:08Speaker 1: to find out things about you. So prior to me
- 4:11Speaker 1: making the decision to go on the show, I had
- 4:13Speaker 1: a hard conversation with myself and with my family and like, okay,
- 4:16Speaker 1: y'all understand that, like this is no longer private information,
- 4:21Speaker 1: like we're public figures now, but like everything that you
- 4:24Speaker 1: say and do will be in the public eye. So
- 4:27Speaker 1: when you decide to do reality TV, it is reality.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And you know, y'all just said it just now. You know,
- 4:33Speaker 1: my business has been through so many life cycles, so
- 4:36Speaker 1: that is a part of my reality. So what's happening
- 4:40Speaker 1: is a social media is putting a magnifying glass on
- 4:45Speaker 1: the things that I've already been going through privately as
- 4:49Speaker 1: an entrepreneur, which I've spoken about publicly. You know, the
- 4:55Speaker 1: last time that I came here, you said I cried.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Which time?
- 4:58Speaker 3: That was the pregnancy episode?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Okay, that was pregnant is too.
- 5:01Speaker 2: It was a lot that was powerful, thank you.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So let me tell you when I came on that
- 5:07Speaker 1: show the last time a lot has happened since then.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We talked about building a business, and then I came
- 5:14Speaker 1: again and had to restructure my company twenty million dollars
- 5:19Speaker 1: in debt, having to start over, buying my company back,
- 5:23Speaker 1: having to face public scrutiny. So here it is super
- 5:27Speaker 1: successful entrepreneur having to stand on a cross and be
- 5:33Speaker 1: publicly judged for who I am as an entrepreneur, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: just most recently filing that bankruptcy. So what you saw
- 5:40Speaker 1: on the Internet really was neatrolling the internet that I
- 5:43Speaker 1: was a joncase because basically what I said is, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: what I realized is a lot of people don't understand
- 5:51Speaker 1: that the US Bankruptcy Code isn't tool right. It is
- 5:55Speaker 1: a tool to be able to reorganize and do whatever
- 5:58Speaker 1: it is that you need to do. If you come
- 5:59Speaker 1: in to financial streights in your business and when people
- 6:04Speaker 1: make a certain kind of money, you make a certain
- 6:06Speaker 1: kind of revenue, or you reach a certain milestone and
- 6:08Speaker 1: you do start having troubles financial troubles in your business,
- 6:11Speaker 1: you got options, but we often don't talk about those options.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So when I made the decision to file for bankruptcy, personally,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I filed for bankruptcy because I knew that it would
- 6:23Speaker 1: protect me and my assets because my old creditors were
- 6:26Speaker 1: coming after me because I was the personal guaranteur. I
- 6:29Speaker 1: don't know if you saw a clip that I said.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I think it was that Investments when I said don't
- 6:33Speaker 1: sign as a personal guaranteur. Do y'all remember that clips?
- 6:35Speaker 1: It went viral and everybody's like, why would she say that?
- 6:38Speaker 1: It's because of that And now when I look back,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm happy that I did it, because there is no
- 6:45Speaker 1: shame in filing bankruptcy. You are reorganizing. So when I
- 6:48Speaker 1: did that video, I was really trolling the people back
- 6:51Speaker 1: and then you know the misbrachial video teaching people about bankruptcy.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But I just knew that people didn't understand. Now, when
- 6:57Speaker 1: you asked me about what happened recently, I did went
- 7:00Speaker 1: a court case. I have a tenant moving into a property,
- 7:05Speaker 1: one of my investment properties, and my realtor called me
- 7:08Speaker 1: and said, hey, the doors are the lots are changed
- 7:11Speaker 1: on the door, and you can't get this out. I'm like,
- 7:14Speaker 1: what are you talking about. I called my mortgage company.
- 7:16Speaker 1: They said, well, this is not us, Like, we don't understand.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I got an automatic state. If you know anything about
- 7:20Speaker 1: bankruptcy and automatic status, that they cannot touch your assets.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So my attorneys went down to the courts, found an
- 7:28Speaker 1: emergency judgment and for a couple of days I was fighting,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and you know, last week I won my property back,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and I'm just so happy that I did, because people
- 7:38Speaker 1: really don't understand the law and what did that creditors.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So what happened was is the property was vacant and
- 7:45Speaker 1: it has a mortgage on it. So the property is
- 7:47Speaker 1: vacant and they think it's abandoned, they can take the property, right,
- 7:51Speaker 1: So this doesn't have anything to do the creditors. Yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 1: we don't even know who the creditors. Never responded, they
- 7:57Speaker 1: never showed up to court, they never did anything like that,
- 7:59Speaker 1: So we don't even know why they took the property.
- 8:01Speaker 1: But it was illegal that they took the property because
- 8:04Speaker 1: I was in an automatic stay.
- 8:06Speaker 2: What is an automatic stay?
- 8:07Speaker 1: So when you file for bankruptcy, So say you file
- 8:10Speaker 1: for bankruptcy today, So you're like, all right, I got
- 8:13Speaker 1: a restructure, my business is going through some challenges or changes,
- 8:16Speaker 1: or I'm just in a deficit. I have to pause everything.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You file for bankruptcy, and the day that you file
- 8:21Speaker 1: for bankruptcy, that means nobody can touch you. Creditors can't
- 8:25Speaker 1: come after you. It literally halts every single thing that
- 8:28Speaker 1: happens in your business as it relates to creditors coming
- 8:31Speaker 1: after you, which is a protection for you. So if
- 8:35Speaker 1: you got if you somebody like me, I got a
- 8:36Speaker 1: lot of assets, right, I have a lot of things
- 8:39Speaker 1: that's worth a good amount of money. So when you
- 8:42Speaker 1: have an automatic stay. It protects all of those things.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Nobody can take your properties from you. Because I was
- 8:47Speaker 1: a guaring tour on these properties, these creditors can't come
- 8:52Speaker 1: after me to take the properties that I have. So
- 8:55Speaker 1: if you were to do that, it's completely an automatic
- 8:58Speaker 1: stay and they can't take anything from me.
- 9:00Speaker 4: So, so what happened wasn't in a legal seizure of
- 9:03Speaker 4: your property. You now got back.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, So I filed for bankruptcy on February twelfth. The
- 9:09Speaker 1: creditors changed the lots on the twentieth, So by bankruptcy law,
- 9:14Speaker 1: that is illegal. And because it was illegal, I got
- 9:17Speaker 1: awarded legal fees because they did the wrong thing.
- 9:21Speaker 3: So they have to pay you.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Now they have to pay my attorney's fees.
- 9:24Speaker 3: So giants feedes.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Okay, but if you didn't know that, could they have
- 9:28Speaker 2: taken a property?
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah? They could have if I didn't know that, if
- 9:32Speaker 1: you didn't have challenged them, if I didn't challenge them, yes,
- 9:35Speaker 1: they could have taken.
- 9:35Speaker 2: That's why educational before, that is.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Why education is so critical. Listen, I have learned so
- 9:40Speaker 1: many lessons in entrepreneurship. I've been fell on my face
- 9:43Speaker 1: ten thousand times. Okay, but I also got back up
- 9:46Speaker 1: ten thousand, three hundred times, you know what I'm saying,
- 9:49Speaker 1: And every single time that I get up, I learned
- 9:51Speaker 1: a new lesson. Every single time I follow on my face,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I get smarter. So to some people and may look like, oh,
- 9:57Speaker 1: she failed and she fell on her face when this happened. No,
- 10:00Speaker 1: this is the knowledge that money can't even pay for.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So now I can educate other people because of the
- 10:06Speaker 1: things that I've gone through. And I wouldn't say I'm
- 10:08Speaker 1: the sacrificial lamb, but being a public facing entrepreneur with
- 10:12Speaker 1: a very popular business, with lines still down to block
- 10:15Speaker 1: people still supporting my brand, I have gone through some challenges.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But with those challenges come lessons that I can teach
- 10:21Speaker 1: other entrepreneurs, like hey, don't do that, or hey, if
- 10:25Speaker 1: you need to restructure, it's okay, or hey, if you
- 10:27Speaker 1: need some help, here's the resources. But we really don't
- 10:31Speaker 1: often find that except for from y'all, to be honest,
- 10:34Speaker 1: but where else do you really get that? So I'm
- 10:37Speaker 1: happy that, you know. I was talking to my friend
- 10:40Speaker 1: the other day and I said, sometimes God will put
- 10:43Speaker 1: you on display, and being on display may feel uncomfortable,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and in that level of being uncomfortable. You are going
- 10:51Speaker 1: to inspire so many people. You are going to educate
- 10:54Speaker 1: people who have never in their life believed that they
- 10:57Speaker 1: can understand the concept of entrepreneurship in a way that
- 11:00Speaker 1: makes it easy, because think about it, we are entrepreneurs.
- 11:03Speaker 1: People don't know about cat tables, they don't know about
- 11:06Speaker 1: equity safe notes. You know, a good amount of us do,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but there is a whole majority of people that don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: even know that language. You understand what I'm saying. So
- 11:15Speaker 1: now I'm like, all right, well, maybe it's bigger than
- 11:18Speaker 1: Luddy vecan right, Maybe it's bigger than just me. Maybe
- 11:21Speaker 1: I'm just a vessel to be able to show people
- 11:24Speaker 1: by way of my personal and professional experiences that this
- 11:28Speaker 1: is how you operate and not operate in business. And
- 11:31Speaker 1: it's showing up like that, and maybe maybe that's purpose
- 11:34Speaker 1: work and I'm walking into that I found there.
- 11:36Speaker 2: When I look at you, I often think of vessel.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 11:39Speaker 4: I think vessel that you're going through things because you're
- 11:43Speaker 4: going to be the person that can teach people. I
- 11:45Speaker 4: wonder do you take time inside of it as you're
- 11:47Speaker 4: learning the lesson? Do you take time to say, Okay,
- 11:51Speaker 4: let me deal with it before. It's like, let me
- 11:53Speaker 4: just teach people what's really happening, because I feel like
- 11:55Speaker 4: with you, it's like, oh no, you have this gift
- 11:58Speaker 4: where it's like, now I'm trying this trash in the tribe.
- 12:00Speaker 4: This is a learner to watch how we flipped this
- 12:02Speaker 4: ie the miss Racial clip. Do you take time in
- 12:06Speaker 4: between or it's like, I got I've learned this. Let
- 12:08Speaker 4: me tell everybody what they need to know.
- 12:10Speaker 1: When I restructured my company, I almost lost my mind.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I almost lost my You gotta imagine I about one
- 12:17Speaker 1: hundred million dollar brand that became a household name, Grace,
- 12:20Speaker 1: the covers of all of these magazines, all of these
- 12:23Speaker 1: great things, all of these accolades, all of these accomplishments,
- 12:27Speaker 1: just to wake up and not own my company no more.
- 12:31Speaker 1: So that's a very dark one to sit in. You
- 12:33Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying. So I don't know for the
- 12:35Speaker 1: people who are watching this, if you've ever lost your business,
- 12:38Speaker 1: if you've ever had to file for bankruptcy, if you've
- 12:40Speaker 1: ever had to face public humiliation, if you ever had
- 12:43Speaker 1: people who you've respected turning it back on you where
- 12:46Speaker 1: you needed them the most. So I had to sit
- 12:48Speaker 1: inside of myself, just me and God for a very
- 12:51Speaker 1: long time. And in that city was my peruning period,
- 12:56Speaker 1: and that purning period, it made my skin tougher, right,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I got more resilient and built my character and maybe
- 13:03Speaker 1: understand who is for me and who's for me. And
- 13:06Speaker 1: it also showed me that entrepreneurship is not a straight line, okay,
- 13:11Speaker 1: And as long as I know that it's not a
- 13:12Speaker 1: straight line, I'm gonna be all right. So now when
- 13:15Speaker 1: stuff happened to me, now I'm like, shit, I done
- 13:17Speaker 1: been through the worst. It's easy, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Like I'd have been through the worst. I almost lost
- 13:23Speaker 1: my mind. You have lost a hundred million dollar business?
- 13:26Speaker 1: Noll you ever lost one hundred million?
- 13:29Speaker 3: Come?
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah? So that right there, and then not to just
- 13:34Speaker 1: to lose it, but to come back and buy it
- 13:36Speaker 1: forty three days later, but then be faced with the
- 13:40Speaker 1: challenges of Okay, now you're a personal guaranteer. They say
- 13:43Speaker 1: you're a public figure. We gonna come after you because
- 13:45Speaker 1: if the business the old code ain't gonna give it
- 13:47Speaker 1: to us, we ain't gonna get it from you. So
- 13:49Speaker 1: now you got this victory and you feel vindicated because
- 13:52Speaker 1: you get an opportunity for a second chance, but nobody
- 13:55Speaker 1: talks about what happens when you get that second chance.
- 13:58Speaker 1: There's fine print that is a associated with that, you
- 14:01Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And there's not a lot of
- 14:03Speaker 1: people that I can look to as a comp that
- 14:05Speaker 1: has been through as a black woman, minority owned business,
- 14:09Speaker 1: a female owned business that has gone through what I've
- 14:11Speaker 1: been through. So oftentimes that walk is just me and God,
- 14:16Speaker 1: real talk, The walk is just me and God. But
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm like, you know what, my head is up high.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I meditate, I pray every day, and I know that
- 14:24Speaker 1: my purpose is so much bigger than the Internet. My
- 14:28Speaker 1: purpose is so much bigger than slutty Vegan. I know
- 14:31Speaker 1: that this legacy walk, it's next level and it has
- 14:34Speaker 1: nothing to be with money.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Yeah, because everything you just named the public scrupiny to
- 14:40Speaker 4: be in the public figure, it almost makes you question
- 14:43Speaker 4: why write reality TV? But hearing you say it now,
- 14:46Speaker 4: it's like why not?
- 14:48Speaker 3: What else can I could?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Then?
- 14:50Speaker 3: Right?
- 14:50Speaker 2: Was that your thought process and decided I'm doing this?
- 14:53Speaker 1: Well? You know it's funny because I'm always having my
- 14:57Speaker 1: intellectual conversations and I was talking to one of my
- 15:01Speaker 1: close friends the other day, and I said, there's two
- 15:04Speaker 1: buckets when you're an entrepreneur. There's a money engine and
- 15:07Speaker 1: there's a visibility engine. One can get you the other.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Think about what I just said. There is a money
- 15:14Speaker 1: engine and there is a visibility engine, but you need
- 15:16Speaker 1: at least one. You need the visibility. The visibility can
- 15:20Speaker 1: get you the money. You need the money because the
- 15:22Speaker 1: money can get you the visibility, but you have to
- 15:24Speaker 1: have one. Okay, So I've already gotten a money engine, right,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and I lost the money engine because I had to
- 15:30Speaker 1: restructure my company. So I said, in addition to just
- 15:33Speaker 1: wanting to do something different, you got to understand I've
- 15:36Speaker 1: been a television producer. I've been a pageant girl, right,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I've been a restaurant tour. I've done all these things,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and I'm like reality TV, like I grew out with
- 15:44Speaker 1: prom Queen. I did all the things right. Because I'm
- 15:47Speaker 1: not a one trick pony. I want to be able
- 15:49Speaker 1: to do all of the things that people say, well,
- 15:51Speaker 1: why would you do that? You got to imagine Slutty
- 15:54Speaker 1: Vegan did a shoe with Steve Madden. One the hell
- 15:57Speaker 1: you ever hear of a shoe with a a restaurant company,
- 16:02Speaker 1: Like those things aren't supposed to go together. So when
- 16:05Speaker 1: I think about the engines that I have and the
- 16:09Speaker 1: opportunity to be able to do something different and show
- 16:12Speaker 1: entrepreneurs that, like, this is real entrepreneurship. It gets ugly sometimes,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but there's gonna be somebody to sit in and watching
- 16:19Speaker 1: TV every Sunday at eight o'clock and they're going to
- 16:22Speaker 1: fall in love with the fact that, like I can
- 16:24Speaker 1: really be an entrepreneur, or I can keep going because
- 16:26Speaker 1: this girldom been through the wringer and she keep going
- 16:29Speaker 1: and she don't give up. And if I can achieve that,
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's a win for me.
- 16:34Speaker 2: So I want to go back to what you said
- 16:35Speaker 2: about your most plush your mind. So mental health, that's
- 16:38Speaker 2: something that's very important. What challenges that you go through,
- 16:43Speaker 2: How did you get out of that?
- 16:44Speaker 4: You?
- 16:44Speaker 2: Did you seek therapy? How did you know that it
- 16:47Speaker 2: was becoming unhealthy mentally for you? Was it like one
- 16:50Speaker 2: specific thing where it's like a nervous breakdown like I
- 16:53Speaker 2: talked about enough as far as like it is a
- 16:55Speaker 2: very stressful position that can cause people that get divorced,
- 16:59Speaker 2: that can cause breaks up to family that can cause
- 17:02Speaker 2: you know, some level of mental illness, depression, all types
- 17:04Speaker 2: of stuff. So from a mental health standpoint, talk about that.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that gets deep. I don't think I told you
- 17:14Speaker 1: all about that. I say I probably told you all
- 17:15Speaker 1: this off the record. But in the height of me
- 17:18Speaker 1: losing my company, Derek was finally having his moment. Do
- 17:25Speaker 1: you see this seesaw right there, the height of the
- 17:29Speaker 1: ship crumbling, of me losing everything on the surface. Right,
- 17:34Speaker 1: we have all these and I'm still making money through
- 17:36Speaker 1: all of this, Like this ain't a money problem. Money's
- 17:38Speaker 1: coming through the door. But when you got three hundred
- 17:41Speaker 1: and fifty thousand dollars in payroll a week, well don
- 17:43Speaker 1: you do with that? You want to say what I'm saying.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So in the middle of losing it all, my husband,
- 17:48Speaker 1: who's worked for the last fifteen years to get here,
- 17:53Speaker 1: finally gets his moment. So here I am as a wife,
- 17:56Speaker 1: we newly wins. I'm like, hey, like I'm here, like
- 17:59Speaker 1: I need you to help. But then he's also in
- 18:01Speaker 1: his moment, so like he come around me. I got
- 18:03Speaker 1: the depressed energy on me. Let's be honest, we've all
- 18:07Speaker 1: been there before. I'm sure at some point in our
- 18:09Speaker 1: career in our business, and he's excited, but now part
- 18:12Speaker 1: of him doesn't want to be excited because if he's
- 18:14Speaker 1: too happy. He never told me this, but I'm an impath,
- 18:17Speaker 1: so in my mind, I'm like, all right, he probably
- 18:18Speaker 1: feel like if he too happy and I'm over here
- 18:20Speaker 1: sulking and entrepreneurship trying to figure it out, then it
- 18:23Speaker 1: makes him look like a bad husband. So we did
- 18:26Speaker 1: have some challenges there because you know, I don't know
- 18:29Speaker 1: the people who are watching this who are married entrepreneurs.
- 18:33Speaker 1: That shit ain't no joke. It is no joke. And
- 18:36Speaker 1: we both had multimillion dollar companies. Derek makes millions in
- 18:39Speaker 1: his business. I make millions in my business, but we
- 18:42Speaker 1: keep our businesses totally separate. I don't know what's going
- 18:45Speaker 1: on in his business, he don't know what's going on
- 18:47Speaker 1: in mind. So when I met him, my business essentially
- 18:50Speaker 1: was quote unquote doing not doing better than his. But
- 18:53Speaker 1: I had more visibility than he did. Right, So oftentimes
- 18:57Speaker 1: he was the supporting character in our empire, right, But
- 19:02Speaker 1: then the roles reversed and I became the supporting character
- 19:05Speaker 1: in his. But that's the beauty of marriage, right, So
- 19:08Speaker 1: did it get hard? Yes, did we have to learn
- 19:11Speaker 1: the hard way on how we navigate when one partner
- 19:14Speaker 1: and a relationship is going through a visual circumstance. It
- 19:18Speaker 1: was incredibly tough. I had a lot of nights where
- 19:21Speaker 1: it was just me and my pillow, and God, my
- 19:23Speaker 1: husband could be laying right beside me and as much
- 19:26Speaker 1: comfort as he can give me and be there and
- 19:28Speaker 1: supportive of me. Nobody understands what it feels like when
- 19:32Speaker 1: you literally fighting for your life. But you got to
- 19:34Speaker 1: show up and put a smile on your face, y'all.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Remember you know I do group economics all the time.
- 19:39Speaker 1: There was one specific just move supplements. In about a week,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I raised two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for this
- 19:45Speaker 1: lady business, and I was losing mind at the same time.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Nobody knew. Nobody knew. So here it is. While I'm crumbling,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I'm still helping entrepreneurs because I never wanted to be
- 19:57Speaker 1: a victim. You understand what I'm saying. I never wanted
- 19:59Speaker 1: to be a victim. But it hurt. It really hurt,
- 20:03Speaker 1: because when you are in a strap situation as an entrepreneur,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you get really clear when things feel cloudy. You get
- 20:12Speaker 1: clear when things feel that's the ball I should put
- 20:16Speaker 1: that in the risk. When things feel cloudy, you get
- 20:20Speaker 1: so clear because you see who's gonna support you. When
- 20:23Speaker 1: it's ugly, you're gonna see who's gonna be there, Like
- 20:25Speaker 1: what you need and my problems, Ay, Like, all right,
- 20:27Speaker 1: let me hold three million dollars. I'll pay you back
- 20:29Speaker 1: next week.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Like.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It ain't many people that you can really call this
- 20:32Speaker 1: in your ecosystem. I told you before, Robert Smith, when
- 20:35Speaker 1: I was going through what I was going through, I
- 20:36Speaker 1: called him up. I said, Robert, I got a building
- 20:38Speaker 1: two million dollars in DC. I said, I'll sell it
- 20:41Speaker 1: to you for one point seven million dollars just so
- 20:42Speaker 1: I could get some liquid. Three days gave me the money.
- 20:46Speaker 1: So my advice to people who are going through a
- 20:50Speaker 1: difficult time in business, you got to make sure that
- 20:53Speaker 1: you have the right people around you, which is why
- 20:56Speaker 1: it's so critical to have really good mentors, really good partnership's,
- 21:00Speaker 1: really good relationship, people that you can trust that you
- 21:03Speaker 1: can call in a crunch, because we all have a crunch.
- 21:05Speaker 1: It's okay. It don't matter what level you are in business.
- 21:08Speaker 1: We all got crunches. It's given cabin crunches. Okay, like
- 21:12Speaker 1: we all have corunches, but you got to know that
- 21:14Speaker 1: there's people in your ecosystem that you can call in
- 21:17Speaker 1: the midst of those crunches, that won't judge you, that'll
- 21:20Speaker 1: be there for you, and that'll be that show in
- 21:22Speaker 1: it that you need when you feel weak as an entrepreneur.
- 21:25Speaker 4: And that's why you're a vessel, because you show entrepreneurship
- 21:28Speaker 4: at his peaks, his valleys, and it's very loose and
- 21:32Speaker 4: people are with usaid with you.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I want it in this moment.
- 21:35Speaker 4: What's the most important thing you learned about yourself as
- 21:37Speaker 4: you're going as you come out of there.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You know, for a long time, the messaging was I'm
- 21:46Speaker 1: building a billion dollar company. I'm building a billion dollar company,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and that messaging has changed. Do I still want a
- 21:53Speaker 1: billion dollar company? Yes, But it's not the money that
- 21:57Speaker 1: I want. It's what the money can provide, Okay, the
- 22:01Speaker 1: piece that the money can provide, the freedom that the
- 22:03Speaker 1: money can provide. And there's no guarantee that money can
- 22:06Speaker 1: provide peace and freedom, right, but if sure can get
- 22:08Speaker 1: you cooks, right, I want to be able to take
- 22:11Speaker 1: my kids to school and be free of worry. I
- 22:14Speaker 1: want to travel around the world with my children. Yes
- 22:18Speaker 1: we make a lot of money, but we got a
- 22:20Speaker 1: lot of bills. Yes we do a lot of great things,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but I can't remember the last time that I had
- 22:26Speaker 1: an hour to just not think about, like what's next,
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So like, as I evolve
- 22:32Speaker 1: as an entrepreneur, I'm working for the peace, you know
- 22:37Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like I am working for the piece
- 22:39Speaker 1: because I've touched thirty three million dollars I've touched, you
- 22:42Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I've touched so much money in
- 22:43Speaker 1: my lifetimes that os have not seen. So I know
- 22:46Speaker 1: what it feels like. I know all of those things.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I know what it feels like to be in the
- 22:49Speaker 1: best room, every room. I'm man, y'all. Let y'all know
- 22:52Speaker 1: what it feels like.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Somebody say you've earned yours.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I've been there, done that, so it's almost like when
- 22:57Speaker 1: you get there, it's like, Okay, this is it. Now
- 23:00Speaker 1: I'm focused on the things that really don't cost much peace, freedom,
- 23:04Speaker 1: being with my children, still having a successful business, but
- 23:08Speaker 1: those things having that level of peace, just taking a
- 23:11Speaker 1: bubble bath with some XM salt like that to me
- 23:15Speaker 1: these days is peace and I value that more. And
- 23:19Speaker 1: you know, entrepreneurship is still at the forefront. I could
- 23:22Speaker 1: not imagine myself doing anything else in the world, but
- 23:25Speaker 1: the intention always continues to elevate and it should as
- 23:29Speaker 1: an entrepreneur.
- 23:31Speaker 2: What explain to us, all right, as you kid the
- 23:33Speaker 2: audience on bankruptcy. Obviously you made that video is being
- 23:36Speaker 2: very public that you foiled for bankruptcy. You made the
- 23:38Speaker 2: video which is super dope. Thank no, thank you. Give
- 23:44Speaker 2: us an explanation of bankruptcy because I still think that
- 23:48Speaker 2: people need to be educated on it.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Okay, So bankruptcy, I'm gonna break it down like a
- 23:53Speaker 1: fifth career. Bankruptcy is if you go through if you
- 23:59Speaker 1: have more debts then you have revenue, and you are insolvent,
- 24:04Speaker 1: which means that either you can't pay your bills or
- 24:08Speaker 1: you have more bills than you have revenue, and your
- 24:10Speaker 1: bottom line is the color red and not green. That
- 24:15Speaker 1: means that you are insolvent. That means that, by textbook definition,
- 24:19Speaker 1: you can't pay your bills. Okay, So the US Bankruptcy
- 24:22Speaker 1: Code has provided you tools to be able to fix
- 24:27Speaker 1: the problem. Okay. So there's six main codes for people
- 24:32Speaker 1: if you need some relief in your business. So there's
- 24:35Speaker 1: a chapter seven if you want to close your business down,
- 24:38Speaker 1: like if you're done, you sell all your assets and
- 24:41Speaker 1: then you liquidate, you close the business you want to
- 24:44Speaker 1: walk away. That means that ninety nine percent of the time,
- 24:47Speaker 1: all of your debts are discharged. So that means that
- 24:50Speaker 1: you won't owe. And I'm not a lawyer, by the way,
- 24:52Speaker 1: but that means that the debts that you have, they
- 24:55Speaker 1: can be discharged in court. Okay. Chapter thirteen is where
- 24:59Speaker 1: you do a it's a reorganization, but it's a payment
- 25:03Speaker 1: plan and you have a certain amount of time to
- 25:05Speaker 1: pay your debt that you still have to pay, but
- 25:07Speaker 1: it's a certain threshold that if you are below that threshold,
- 25:11Speaker 1: you have a certain amount of time to pay. Chapter
- 25:13Speaker 1: eleven is where most businesses file or if you have
- 25:16Speaker 1: a lot of assets. So for me personally, I have
- 25:20Speaker 1: a lot of assets. I have a lot of properties. Okay,
- 25:22Speaker 1: so chapter eleven is if you make over. I think
- 25:25Speaker 1: the threshold is like one point three All the bankruptcy
- 25:27Speaker 1: attorneys get in the comments and correct me if I'm wrong,
- 25:30Speaker 1: but I believe it's like one point three million. Dollars.
- 25:32Speaker 1: If you have more than one point three million dollars
- 25:34Speaker 1: in assets, you have to file a Chapter eleven. Okay,
- 25:38Speaker 1: So I fil Chapter eleven. And what eleven is it's
- 25:41Speaker 1: a reorganization and you also get a certain amount of
- 25:44Speaker 1: time to pay it back. Okay. And then there's a
- 25:47Speaker 1: couple more, but the main ones. For the context of
- 25:50Speaker 1: this conversation, it's critical because it provides you the relief
- 25:54Speaker 1: that you need. Now, let's talk about the economy for
- 25:56Speaker 1: a second. Y'all are earned a lisia. You see it, right,
- 25:58Speaker 1: y'all talk about it all the time. All of our
- 26:00Speaker 1: biggest businesses in America have either filed or are filing
- 26:05Speaker 1: or are considering filing right now. And it has gotten
- 26:08Speaker 1: so common because the way the economy is set up
- 26:10Speaker 1: right now, people need relief. Businesses need relief. So I
- 26:14Speaker 1: won't say their names, but some of the biggest fast
- 26:17Speaker 1: food chains are filing Chapter eleven, right, some of the
- 26:20Speaker 1: biggest that there's pharmaceutical companies, they're retail chains. All of
- 26:25Speaker 1: these companies are filing for Chapter sevens or Chapter elevens.
- 26:28Speaker 1: But it's for relief for their business because they either
- 26:32Speaker 1: one can't afford to pay their bills, they're in solvent,
- 26:34Speaker 1: or they just need to reorganize, right, And sometimes you
- 26:37Speaker 1: need a reorganization so that you can really be able
- 26:40Speaker 1: to restructure the plan and get back to a space
- 26:43Speaker 1: in your business where you can become profitable. So, for
- 26:45Speaker 1: the people who are watching this, bankruptcy is a tool.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Your president has filed for bankruptcy. How many times six?
- 26:54Speaker 1: A lot of times? A lot, But bankruptcy is a tool.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And I am so excited about the opportunity to do
- 27:02Speaker 1: what we will do together because we get to educate
- 27:05Speaker 1: people in a way where they can understand it and
- 27:07Speaker 1: it's digestible. When we think about financial literacy, I'll be honest,
- 27:11Speaker 1: even me, when I started being an entrepreneur, an official entrepreneur,
- 27:15Speaker 1: there was so much stuff that I didn't understand. So
- 27:17Speaker 1: I'm like, where do you get that information outside of y'all?
- 27:21Speaker 3: Right?
- 27:22Speaker 1: And you know, once you know that the tools are
- 27:24Speaker 1: out there for you, you will be so much better off.
- 27:28Speaker 4: I think we think bankrupcy and we think synonymous were broken.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's furthest from.
- 27:34Speaker 4: The truth, right, And so that's why the education piece
- 27:37Speaker 4: is so vially important. Part of the couple questions when
- 27:40Speaker 4: they set the deadline on how the repaying instructure go.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Is that predicated by the courts on saying like you
- 27:46Speaker 4: have five years, four years?
- 27:47Speaker 3: How did that process want?
- 27:48Speaker 1: So the lawyer puts in a plan, right, based on
- 27:52Speaker 1: your finances, how much you make and all that stuff.
- 27:54Speaker 1: So the lawyer presents a plan to the courts and
- 27:57Speaker 1: it gets approved. Okay, And at that plan approved, you
- 28:00Speaker 1: get you have. I haven't even gotten that far. I'm
- 28:02Speaker 1: in the beginning the phases, but I believe it's like
- 28:05Speaker 1: three to five years to pay that back, right. But
- 28:08Speaker 1: you remember, I filed because I have creditors from my
- 28:12Speaker 1: old co. So a lot of my that ninety nine
- 28:15Speaker 1: percent of the debt that I have personally is business
- 28:19Speaker 1: from the old company that I no longer own. So
- 28:22Speaker 1: you know, not I can't say too much, but some
- 28:26Speaker 1: of those debts can be discharged because I don't own
- 28:29Speaker 1: that company and it was from the corporation because I
- 28:30Speaker 1: had a corporation. Bankruptcy is very intricate, which is why
- 28:35Speaker 1: it's critical to get an attorney. So if anybody who's
- 28:37Speaker 1: watching this wants to file for bankruptcy, you need an
- 28:40Speaker 1: attorney to be able to support you and guide you
- 28:43Speaker 1: through and help you make the best decisions. But I
- 28:45Speaker 1: would not change it for the world. I'm so glad
- 28:47Speaker 1: that I did it.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Part of the restructuring is changing leadershue your brand so strong,
- 28:53Speaker 4: I mean, we've been around it for so long, sanlely
- 28:55Speaker 4: oriented the difficult decisions after you made Yeah, nobody told
- 28:59Speaker 4: us about that part either, Right, Like, some of your
- 29:02Speaker 4: friends may not be quite of.
- 29:04Speaker 3: The division going forward. How do you manage what you do?
- 29:07Speaker 1: And it ain't even the friends that be the problem. Did
- 29:10Speaker 1: you say, I have hired so many people with great
- 29:14Speaker 1: resumes that can't even do the jump up? You want
- 29:17Speaker 1: to say what I'm saying, It's just like, so there's
- 29:19Speaker 1: a hybrid, right, Like you need expertise and a little
- 29:23Speaker 1: bit of hard like. You can't have one more than
- 29:25Speaker 1: the other because it'll never work. You got to have
- 29:27Speaker 1: a hybrid, and that has you know, it's been an
- 29:30Speaker 1: ongoing thing for me. I mean in business, as you
- 29:32Speaker 1: evolve the business, the needs of the business change, right,
- 29:36Speaker 1: just like your relationships. Who you were six years ago
- 29:39Speaker 1: and who you are today. You know what I'm saying.
- 29:41Speaker 1: So as you grow and evolve, the people around you
- 29:43Speaker 1: have to grow and evolve with you, and if they
- 29:46Speaker 1: don't grow and evolve with you, then they cannot stay
- 29:48Speaker 1: and that gets uncomfortable. The problem that happens in business,
- 29:52Speaker 1: and I'm guilty of it too, is people stay past
- 29:55Speaker 1: their expiration date. So you look, people stay past their
- 30:01Speaker 1: expiration date. We as entrepreneurs oftentimes allow people who have
- 30:07Speaker 1: been in the trunches with us in the beginning to
- 30:10Speaker 1: stay past the expiration date because we as we me
- 30:15Speaker 1: I'm talking about myself, for a very long time, I
- 30:18Speaker 1: led with my heart, okay, and leading with your heart
- 30:22Speaker 1: is a great thing, but leading with your heart can
- 30:24Speaker 1: also make you go broke. You understand what I'm saying,
- 30:26Speaker 1: Like you got to lead with logic to hybrid is
- 30:29Speaker 1: what I said. And I've learned that over the years,
- 30:33Speaker 1: because at the end of the day, they can pick
- 30:36Speaker 1: up and go and you're still stuck with a business
- 30:38Speaker 1: trying to figure it out. So, as I grew up
- 30:40Speaker 1: and learn how to walk as an entrepreneur all over
- 30:43Speaker 1: again and fall on my face sometimes, I've learned some
- 30:46Speaker 1: very very valuable lessons that I'm applying this go around.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Do I still get it right? I have some hiccups
- 30:52Speaker 1: still because I'm not perfect, but at the end of
- 30:54Speaker 1: the day, I know that the mistakes and the lessons
- 30:58Speaker 1: from old co I'm getting to apply them here and
- 31:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna be so much better.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Off for it.
- 31:04Speaker 2: So when you filed for bankruptcy, right, is there a
- 31:07Speaker 2: psychological level of fighting that you gotta deal with, like
- 31:12Speaker 2: of like, Okay, I'm gonna trying to fight the pay
- 31:14Speaker 2: these build a petities built are I just this is overwhelming?
- 31:17Speaker 1: Right?
- 31:17Speaker 2: And then like when did you think, like when did
- 31:20Speaker 2: you come to that decision of like I can't fight
- 31:23Speaker 2: this anymore? Like I mean, I just gotta.
- 31:25Speaker 1: You'll me tell you a funny story. I've never said
- 31:28Speaker 1: this out up, but I'm gonna tell you something, so
- 31:31Speaker 1: i won't say their name, but uh, somebody who an entity,
- 31:36Speaker 1: not somebody, an entity who I did business with, reached
- 31:40Speaker 1: out to me and they said like, hey, like let's
- 31:42Speaker 1: meet up at Starbucks so that we can really like
- 31:44Speaker 1: talk this out. And I'm like, okay, cool. I'm just
- 31:46Speaker 1: trying to, you know, make sure that we get things
- 31:48Speaker 1: in line. And I'm like, okay, cool, this is a
- 31:49Speaker 1: peace offering. We can talk. Obviously, you know that the
- 31:51Speaker 1: business was insolvent. Let's figure this out together and it
- 31:56Speaker 1: felt so real and it felt so genuine. Do you
- 31:59Speaker 1: know when I pulled up to that Starbucks and I
- 32:03Speaker 1: went inside, the person that I was looking for was
- 32:06Speaker 1: not there. Somebody tapped me, excuse me, are you Aisha Ko?
- 32:10Speaker 1: And I said yes, she said, you are being served.
- 32:14Speaker 1: So the whole time, I'm thinking that I'm going to
- 32:16Speaker 1: do business right to make a peace offering, and I
- 32:20Speaker 1: realized that like, oh damn, like I'm being served, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: I think that that was my final straw. I'm like,
- 32:25Speaker 1: this is too much, like I don't want to do
- 32:27Speaker 1: this some more. And I think that that's why I'm
- 32:30Speaker 1: made my decision and total transparency. Derek did not want
- 32:32Speaker 1: me to file why good you know, he did it
- 32:38Speaker 1: partially and he like, you don't have to do this
- 32:40Speaker 1: because my reason for filing bankruptcy was because of the
- 32:45Speaker 1: old code. Right. He's like, you don't have to do this,
- 32:47Speaker 1: like you could just get and I'm like, I'm tired,
- 32:49Speaker 1: like I don't I don't want to keep fighting a
- 32:51Speaker 1: battle that I'm losing. I just don't want to keep
- 32:53Speaker 1: doing that, you know what I'm saying. And this was
- 32:54Speaker 1: part two of that restructure. But when I did it.
- 32:57Speaker 1: At first, I was just like, oh, man, like, my
- 33:00Speaker 1: ego is in a way. I'll be honest, my ego
- 33:02Speaker 1: is in a way.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Here it is.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I've done all of these great things that so many
- 33:05Speaker 1: people that look up to me. But then after a while,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I'm like, listen, if I'm dead, they gonna look look
- 33:09Speaker 1: somewhere else anyway. You know what I'm saying. So I
- 33:11Speaker 1: might as well, like take care of me and take
- 33:13Speaker 1: care of what I got going on. I'm the bounce
- 33:15Speaker 1: back queen. Okay, it's giving biggity biggoty bounce like I
- 33:19Speaker 1: can literally every time listen at a restaurant in Hall
- 33:22Speaker 1: of New York, corn on fire, car got repo, got
- 33:25Speaker 1: kicked out of my apartment, lost everything, we just got gurnished.
- 33:28Speaker 1: And then I created a hundred million dollar brand. So
- 33:30Speaker 1: if it can happen before and I lose it and
- 33:32Speaker 1: I get it back, imagine what's about to happen. Now
- 33:35Speaker 1: you understand what I'm saying. It's given forty four x
- 33:38Speaker 1: and you feel me like so, at the end of
- 33:40Speaker 1: the day, I realized that, yes, the headlines could be
- 33:45Speaker 1: the headlines, but I'm so confident in my skin and
- 33:47Speaker 1: who I am as an entrepreneur, and you can never
- 33:50Speaker 1: take away all the great things that I've done in
- 33:52Speaker 1: my career. So I did what I needed to do
- 33:54Speaker 1: with the tools that were provided to me. And I'm
- 33:56Speaker 1: so happy that I did it because, let me tell
- 33:58Speaker 1: you some of your favorites. These in my dms right
- 34:01Speaker 1: now saying hey, I want to file, can you connect
- 34:03Speaker 1: me with an attorney? And to me, I say, you
- 34:06Speaker 1: know what, that tells me that people are really following
- 34:08Speaker 1: my journey and learning from it, right. I mean, this
- 34:11Speaker 1: ain't a bankruptcy party here. Everybody file for bankruptcy. But
- 34:14Speaker 1: the fact that I get to teach other people just
- 34:16Speaker 1: by my experiences tell me that I'm doing.
- 34:18Speaker 3: The right thing.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Which which one do you feel the weight the heavyweight
- 34:22Speaker 4: of the critique, the scrutiny or the expectation that there
- 34:29Speaker 4: are people watching me and they need to learn from you, right,
- 34:32Speaker 4: Because there's two different things. Right, Like, there might be
- 34:35Speaker 4: that pressure like I got to keep going. I got
- 34:38Speaker 4: these people who believe what they're trying to follow that
- 34:41Speaker 4: path and this is that.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Housele had that pressure up more I did. I'ma be honest,
- 34:45Speaker 1: I don't have that pressure no more. Because I'm flawed
- 34:48Speaker 1: and it's okay to be flawed. And you either gonna
- 34:51Speaker 1: love me or you're not gonna love me. You ever
- 34:53Speaker 1: gonna learn from you or you're not, which is very
- 34:55Speaker 1: rare because anytime I'm in a room, if you're in
- 34:56Speaker 1: a room with me and you don't learn something, something's wrong.
- 34:59Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, And like, so the pressure
- 35:01Speaker 1: that I used to have, it's just like this is
- 35:02Speaker 1: who I am, right, Like, I'm not polished, I am me,
- 35:06Speaker 1: I'm raw on a tongue, and you are going to
- 35:09Speaker 1: learn something whether you like it or not, right, and
- 35:12Speaker 1: that pressure is just gone. I just have a level
- 35:14Speaker 1: of freedom. I don't look at the blogs. I don't
- 35:16Speaker 1: look at the comments, and even if I do look
- 35:17Speaker 1: at something, I left like, okay, they had no idea.
- 35:20Speaker 1: But it took for me to be in that dark
- 35:21Speaker 1: wrong to get there, to be on that display that
- 35:24Speaker 1: God put me on to because God is the visual
- 35:28Speaker 1: merchandiser to put me on that level or display, because
- 35:31Speaker 1: God said, I got to get you ready. I got
- 35:34Speaker 1: to get you ready for for everything that's about to come.
- 35:36Speaker 1: And if you're not ready for it, then you're gonna fold.
- 35:39Speaker 1: But if you're ready for it, if I get you
- 35:41Speaker 1: ready for now, ready for it now. It's gonna be uncomfortable,
- 35:43Speaker 1: but you are literally going to change the world. And
- 35:47Speaker 1: I don't know what that looks like yet, but I'm like,
- 35:49Speaker 1: all right, gud, I surrender like I'm giving you the wheel,
- 35:52Speaker 1: and wherever you're gonna take me, I'm gonna go. And
- 35:55Speaker 1: in every room that I'm in, I'm gonna say your
- 35:57Speaker 1: name because you did for me what my eyes couldn't
- 36:00Speaker 1: even believe at first. You know what I'm saying. So
- 36:02Speaker 1: for the people who are going through a hard time,
- 36:05Speaker 1: if you've lost something, if you felt like giving up,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I literally God has literally stripped me the days when
- 36:11Speaker 1: I felt like I couldn't figure things out, God came
- 36:14Speaker 1: back and said, I got you. And I'm talking about
- 36:16Speaker 1: the hardest of situations. God has solved all of my
- 36:19Speaker 1: hardest bowles. So I said, God, if you give me
- 36:21Speaker 1: through this, I'm going to exalt your name. I'm going
- 36:24Speaker 1: to say your name every single wound that I'm in,
- 36:27Speaker 1: and I do it every single time because I would
- 36:28Speaker 1: not be You know what I said, God always knew me.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I just knew God. You know why, because entrepreneurship is
- 36:38Speaker 1: a very spiritual practice. You got to be connected to something.
- 36:43Speaker 1: You got to be connected to a source. And because
- 36:45Speaker 1: I went through everything that I went through in business,
- 36:48Speaker 1: being connected to that source is the biggest flex out
- 36:52Speaker 1: of this whole situation. And I'm proud of that.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Amen, man holds down. That's the highest praise.
- 36:59Speaker 2: And man, yeah, I ain't know what to say. That's
- 37:02Speaker 2: the colluction plate, actual flight. So, I mean, it doesn't
- 37:09Speaker 2: affect you the same way it might affect other people.
- 37:12Speaker 2: But what do you think about, just in general, how
- 37:16Speaker 2: social media has become so toxic and it's almost like
- 37:20Speaker 2: people take enjoyment and seeing somebody else's down for or
- 37:24Speaker 2: proceed down for troubles, trial and tribulations. That's become content.
- 37:29Speaker 2: White people make content around that. And see I told
- 37:32Speaker 2: you like da da da da, Like what is your
- 37:35Speaker 2: thoughts on how our culture seems to deal with these things?
- 37:39Speaker 1: You know, sometimes we got a crab in a barrel culture.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Let's be honest, we see it. People don't want to
- 37:44Speaker 1: talk about It's true. Sometimes it's not everybody. There's a
- 37:47Speaker 1: pocket of people that are supportive that say, hey, I
- 37:50Speaker 1: got your deck whatever you need. Right, Some people thought
- 37:53Speaker 1: I lost my main home. They're like, Pinky, I got
- 37:56Speaker 1: a townhouse if you need somewhere to stay. There is
- 37:58Speaker 1: a trying to take and it was her and she
- 38:01Speaker 1: texted me like, heck out a townhouse if you need
- 38:03Speaker 1: some what to say. But there's a pocket of people
- 38:06Speaker 1: that do, so I don't want to isolate our whole
- 38:08Speaker 1: community like everybody. That's not the truth. There are people
- 38:12Speaker 1: who actually root for you, that are supportive of you,
- 38:14Speaker 1: that want to be there for you in your most
- 38:16Speaker 1: difficult times. But what I also understand is that if
- 38:19Speaker 1: you look at the economy right now, there's a lot
- 38:21Speaker 1: of people in the world that are said, there's a
- 38:24Speaker 1: lot of people in the world that are unhappy with
- 38:26Speaker 1: their situations. They wake up every single day and go
- 38:28Speaker 1: to a job that they hate, but they got to
- 38:30Speaker 1: keep the job because this is how they pay their
- 38:31Speaker 1: bills and they take care of their family, you know
- 38:33Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And a lot of people are living
- 38:35Speaker 1: paycheck to paycheck, right and the dreams that they had
- 38:38Speaker 1: they ain't never follow. Okay, so oftentimes they're projecting their
- 38:42Speaker 1: negativity on other people. But I realized when I've gone
- 38:46Speaker 1: through the most humiliating experience professionally as an entrepreneur, and
- 38:50Speaker 1: how it made me feel after that. It was almost
- 38:53Speaker 1: like all right, I went to that. Okay, cool. So now,
- 38:55Speaker 1: like I'm not tuned into what people say because I'm
- 38:58Speaker 1: so sure within myself who I am. They don't you
- 39:01Speaker 1: can say whatever you want to say. I'd be laughing, like, Okay,
- 39:03Speaker 1: whatever it is, what it is. Everybody's not like that though, Right.
- 39:07Speaker 1: It takes a special kind of fixed skin, and you
- 39:09Speaker 1: can't pay for that, Like you can't go get no
- 39:11Speaker 1: botox for that, you know what I'm saying, Like, ain't
- 39:14Speaker 1: no surgery for that. Like you really just got to
- 39:17Speaker 1: go through the trenches. But when you come out on
- 39:18Speaker 1: the other side, you understand that the people who know
- 39:21Speaker 1: know and that people will get it. Get it. Y'all
- 39:24Speaker 1: are my peers. We're in the same class. Y'all get it.
- 39:28Speaker 1: You get it. Everybody else don't get it, And it's
- 39:31Speaker 1: not necessarily for them to get it. But it's our
- 39:33Speaker 1: responsibility to continue to educate.
- 39:35Speaker 4: They gotta live to us a little bit, right, Yeah,
- 39:38Speaker 4: I want to talk about what's happening now.
- 39:44Speaker 3: They're getting your peachs.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Yeah, you're now part of Housewives of Elena, which is
- 39:52Speaker 4: interesting because I don't think I'm guilty.
- 39:55Speaker 2: All I've watched it.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I watched Okay, my model, she carried my wife. I
- 39:59Speaker 3: don't think I I've ever seen anybody like you on
- 40:01Speaker 3: the show.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen anybody like me either, And.
- 40:04Speaker 4: I'm excited for that because we know you and again
- 40:08Speaker 4: the people that watched your journey and watch you becoming
- 40:11Speaker 4: an entrepreneur, watch all the things that we spoke about,
- 40:14Speaker 4: and now you're going into that world.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Talk to us.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Please, I don't know what to say, you know, I'm
- 40:23Speaker 1: actually very excited. I'm excited because outside of my two
- 40:28Speaker 1: best friends Chris Deuincierra I and I'm not I'm usually
- 40:31Speaker 1: around men. I do, I do good bit I always
- 40:33Speaker 1: work best with I don't know, I just I have
- 40:35Speaker 1: a darmin personality, so I always work best with men.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I'm overly confident, you know. You know I go so
- 40:40Speaker 1: to be around a group of women was very different
- 40:44Speaker 1: for me. A group of women that are not in
- 40:46Speaker 1: the same industry almost was also very different from me.
- 40:50Speaker 1: But I'm happy that I'm different. Different, it's good. Different
- 40:53Speaker 1: is not a bad thing. And I think what makes
- 40:55Speaker 1: a really good reality show is diversity, right, Like diversity
- 40:59Speaker 1: and personality, the diversity in character, diversity and experience, because
- 41:04Speaker 1: it needs to be somebody for everybody. So I know
- 41:06Speaker 1: that I got my audience, Okay, Like I'm thinking that
- 41:09Speaker 1: my people would be and I'm excited for people to
- 41:11Speaker 1: be able to see me uncover the highs and lows
- 41:14Speaker 1: of entrepreneurship. Remember I'm an open book at this point,
- 41:17Speaker 1: so it's just like people to really get to see
- 41:21Speaker 1: how I've navigated business, the beautiful side of it, the
- 41:24Speaker 1: hard side. They'll see my family, my life style, my marriage.
- 41:28Speaker 1: You know, me and Derek, we don't really post a
- 41:30Speaker 1: lot of our marriage online, but they get to really
- 41:32Speaker 1: see that in real time, Like that's my best friend,
- 41:35Speaker 1: Were the same person? You know what I'm saying, Like
- 41:38Speaker 1: you think that I put my stuff like he is,
- 41:40Speaker 1: y'all know, Like Derek is very intellectual and like people
- 41:43Speaker 1: get to see that side, and I'm excited about that.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And I know that the audience that I build on
- 41:49Speaker 1: this show is bigger than arguing at a brunch table.
- 41:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like were talking about things
- 41:56Speaker 1: that matter, you know what I'm saying, And I'm looking
- 41:58Speaker 1: forward to that.
- 41:59Speaker 2: So will you go into this show? Are you going
- 42:01Speaker 2: into a thinking this is a branding opportunity for me
- 42:03Speaker 2: to further the audience to build business. What's your thought
- 42:07Speaker 2: process on actually signing up for a reality show? Like
- 42:09Speaker 2: are you or you just looking at like, well, how
- 42:12Speaker 2: are you thinking? Like about that?
- 42:14Speaker 1: If I sat here and told you no, that's not
- 42:16Speaker 1: the case, I'd be lying. You'd be like, you're a
- 42:18Speaker 1: stop line, right. Somebody else would be like, yeah, no,
- 42:20Speaker 1: that's I just came because I wanted to make new
- 42:23Speaker 1: girl friends. Yeah, I'm excited about making new girlfriends. But
- 42:26Speaker 1: when you think about the leverage that platforms like these bring, yes,
- 42:31Speaker 1: you want to meet new people, but it's also an
- 42:34Speaker 1: opportunity to build and grow whatever it is that you have,
- 42:37Speaker 1: And it's also an opportunity to continue to raise awareness
- 42:40Speaker 1: as an entrepreneur. And it's also an opportunity to be
- 42:43Speaker 1: able to do something different. So my reasoning wasn't just
- 42:46Speaker 1: one thing like I just want to rip branding and
- 42:48Speaker 1: like promote my business. I want to do something different.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I want to I want to see how could I
- 42:52Speaker 1: mesh not even mesh, that's not the word. How can
- 42:56Speaker 1: I take up space in a room full of others,
- 43:00Speaker 1: success of women, and we do things that the world
- 43:03Speaker 1: is ever seen.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Does that work? Housewives? Why does that?
- 43:06Speaker 1: Even what you left?
- 43:07Speaker 2: You're always thinking the same thing about to ask you?
- 43:10Speaker 3: That's great?
- 43:10Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 43:11Speaker 2: Well, I'm assuming when it first started the show was
- 43:13Speaker 2: based around housewives, but nobody on the show was a housewife.
- 43:17Speaker 2: So why do they like? Is that just like a
- 43:19Speaker 2: name of the show.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Well, you know, I got a coat, executive producer, and
- 43:24Speaker 1: ask that question and get back to you. However, so
- 43:26Speaker 1: I can always speak for me and mine. Okay. So
- 43:29Speaker 1: I'm very married, and I have a family, and we
- 43:32Speaker 1: have a house, and I am not my definition a housewife.
- 43:36Speaker 1: I still get up and I go to work. I
- 43:40Speaker 1: still up and I get the chicken. They'll pun intended. Okay,
- 43:44Speaker 1: But a housewife in the quintessential definition, okay, really means that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: What really means that you embody a level of energy
- 43:56Speaker 1: where you are the recipient of a lifestyle that everybody
- 44:02Speaker 1: is not afforded. Okay, And I'm the recipient of a
- 44:06Speaker 1: lifestyle that everybody is not affording. My husband is very successful,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I'm very successful in business. Together we have We're not
- 44:13Speaker 1: even forty yet, and we've done more things than other
- 44:16Speaker 1: thirty eight year olds that I've ever seen in my life. Right,
- 44:19Speaker 1: So you know the reason for why they created the show, obviously,
- 44:24Speaker 1: you know they had their reasons. But for me coming
- 44:26Speaker 1: on the show, being a part of Real House Ees
- 44:28Speaker 1: of Atlanta, the goal is to not work one day.
- 44:32Speaker 1: The goal is to one day sell my company and
- 44:34Speaker 1: have an exit, just like most founders do. But I'm
- 44:38Speaker 1: excited about being a part of this platform. Bravo is incredible,
- 44:43Speaker 1: NBC Universal is incredible, and I've made some really good
- 44:46Speaker 1: friendships so far. So like, I'm happy about that.
- 44:49Speaker 4: I was gonna it's crazy because we were thinking the
- 44:51Speaker 4: same thing. I was actually looking at it as there might.
- 44:56Speaker 4: You're a wife. You have obviously a husband in the
- 45:00Speaker 4: family at home, a part of you as a housewife, right,
- 45:03Speaker 4: but that doesn't define who you are. And that's how
- 45:06Speaker 4: I was trying to think of this is like another
- 45:08Speaker 4: aspect of fool Pinky is in a sense. I was
- 45:12Speaker 4: wondering about the friendship so because when I see you,
- 45:17Speaker 4: it always is with Derek, and you do have counterparts
- 45:20Speaker 4: in your field and kind of parts throughout the city.
- 45:24Speaker 4: But you've got big personality, big energy.
- 45:29Speaker 1: How was that?
- 45:30Speaker 4: You know, Like initially, because I'm assuming that most of
- 45:33Speaker 4: the cast knows who you are, it's not that freaking
- 45:36Speaker 4: with you.
- 45:37Speaker 3: What was that? Like?
- 45:40Speaker 1: I stuck up a lot of air? Do you know
- 45:43Speaker 1: what I mean? When I say that I suck up
- 45:45Speaker 1: a lot of air? Everybody can't handle that. But what
- 45:48Speaker 1: I will say is, like, for example, Kay and I
- 45:52Speaker 1: k Michelle. Her and I have got really really close
- 45:57Speaker 1: through this process. She's my sorority sister, and she's an
- 46:00Speaker 1: intellect like me. She's a thinker, and I don't know
- 46:04Speaker 1: that a lot of people really know that like she
- 46:06Speaker 1: she's a thinker like me. So we've gotten close. I
- 46:10Speaker 1: love Shamia Down, love Kelly Down. We like Portia. But
- 46:14Speaker 1: but I'm you know, every one of them have things
- 46:18Speaker 1: that are cool, right, like one thing about me? I
- 46:20Speaker 1: ain't no here if I see something good and you like,
- 46:22Speaker 1: O got cool? Like I like your sple, I like
- 46:25Speaker 1: your wag. I can't say that about everybody, but for
- 46:28Speaker 1: the most part, there's you know, there's this a talent
- 46:31Speaker 1: or something special that I see and mostly all of
- 46:34Speaker 1: them that I think together makes a dynamic life. Mostly
- 46:39Speaker 1: all of them. They said, if you have nothing nice
- 46:41Speaker 1: to say, nothing at all. Okay, don't say nothing. I'm
- 46:45Speaker 1: a professional.
- 46:47Speaker 3: This is gonna be good.
- 46:50Speaker 1: But yeah, no, I mean, you know, I really value
- 46:55Speaker 1: the relationships of the entire group because what I've learned
- 46:59Speaker 1: is everybody going through stuff. Okay, everybody is going through something,
- 47:02Speaker 1: and you'll be able to attach yourself to one of
- 47:06Speaker 1: these women on the show for whatever reason, whatever your
- 47:09Speaker 1: reason is, And I think that is going to be
- 47:11Speaker 1: a really good season, probably one of the best.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Last year when you was on our show and you
- 47:18Speaker 2: was going through the restruction of your company, you talk
- 47:21Speaker 2: about lessons that you learned as far as like spending
- 47:25Speaker 2: too much money, hiring the wrong people, you know, the
- 47:31Speaker 2: management at like it, a variety of different business lessons
- 47:35Speaker 2: that you learned from that situation that was helpful for
- 47:39Speaker 2: other people in business. What lessons like we're at the
- 47:43Speaker 2: bankruptcy park, but what lessons have you learned from not
- 47:48Speaker 2: only going through the bankruptcy, but things that could have
- 47:50Speaker 2: that could have been prevented or could have caused to
- 47:55Speaker 2: the bankruptcy, Like what have you learned from that.
- 48:00Speaker 1: You can have a Bentchley that is a twenty twenty five.
- 48:04Speaker 1: And it can have all of the trinkets, it can
- 48:07Speaker 1: have all the frills, it could be a nice vehicle.
- 48:09Speaker 1: But if you don't have no engine in that Bentley,
- 48:13Speaker 1: then where you're gonna go you cannot move. So what
- 48:16Speaker 1: I've learned is that you are only as good as
- 48:20Speaker 1: your operations. So when I first started out in business,
- 48:25Speaker 1: I thought it was enough to just be a popular brand.
- 48:27Speaker 1: But somebody needs to be managing and operating the business operations. Okay,
- 48:33Speaker 1: somebody has to operate and like literally be the conductor
- 48:37Speaker 1: on the train. And if you don't have the right
- 48:40Speaker 1: conductor on the train, it'll move. But eventually something that's
- 48:44Speaker 1: gonna happen. Let me give you another example. You ever
- 48:46Speaker 1: been on an airplane before? Had you ever been on
- 48:48Speaker 1: an airplane before? Do you know that there's a several
- 48:52Speaker 1: point inspection that takes place before that airplane can take off.
- 48:56Speaker 1: If you have the wrong operators putting their hands on
- 49:00Speaker 1: that plane while that inspection is taking place, god forbid,
- 49:03Speaker 1: what can happen because the right things haven't taken place
- 49:06Speaker 1: before that plane is taken off. So operations is critical
- 49:10Speaker 1: to having a successful business. It don't matter how popular
- 49:13Speaker 1: you are, It don't matter how many people love you. You
- 49:15Speaker 1: need to have somebody oots on the ground, making sure
- 49:18Speaker 1: that your labor is good, making sure that your cabs
- 49:21Speaker 1: are good, making sure that you have the right vendors,
- 49:24Speaker 1: because what often happens, especially in the restaurant space, like
- 49:27Speaker 1: you can have these vendors and they charging you a
- 49:29Speaker 1: premium price because you don't know that you can get rebates,
- 49:32Speaker 1: or you don't know that you can get the best
- 49:33Speaker 1: price in or they think that you're a mom and
- 49:35Speaker 1: pop company, so we don't have to give them the
- 49:38Speaker 1: right kickbacks. And now your food cost is higher, and
- 49:41Speaker 1: now your bottom line you ain't making no money and
- 49:43Speaker 1: you want to rewin, but it's because you're giving all
- 49:45Speaker 1: of your money to these distribution companies, you know what
- 49:47Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 49:48Speaker 2: So like, well, even if you're doing an event and
- 49:50Speaker 2: somebody can exactly what they paying for this, paying for that,
- 49:53Speaker 2: and before you know it, you know, it ran up
- 49:55Speaker 2: three hundred thousand dollars on.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Let me tell you something, and not I do fourteen
- 50:01Speaker 1: stores in the height of the pandemic. Okay, fourteen stores.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Every store costs between eight hundred thousand and a million
- 50:07Speaker 1: dollars every store, okay, and because it was in the
- 50:11Speaker 1: height of the pandemic, supply chain was crazy, inflation everything.
- 50:16Speaker 1: But what I learned in business is people will take
- 50:19Speaker 1: advantage of you if you do not know. People will
- 50:23Speaker 1: take advantage of you if you do not know. And
- 50:26Speaker 1: sometimes it's intentionally and sometimes it's not intentionally. There are
- 50:30Speaker 1: people who are predatory when it comes to green entrepreneurs.
- 50:35Speaker 1: And we all start off green, right, Like I had
- 50:38Speaker 1: to fall on my face a lot of times. I
- 50:39Speaker 1: didn't have a private equity uncle or a father. My
- 50:42Speaker 1: father did twenty two years in prison. Was he smart, absolutely,
- 50:46Speaker 1: but he was behind bars. So I didn't have that
- 50:48Speaker 1: person on a day to day telling me what to do,
- 50:51Speaker 1: what not to do. You need to give phantom equity,
- 50:53Speaker 1: or you need to do a series this, or do
- 50:55Speaker 1: a series that, or like you don't need to get
- 50:57Speaker 1: this big of a discount. Like I had to learn
- 50:59Speaker 1: at the hard way, and we didn't even have AI
- 51:02Speaker 1: when I was trying to do it. Okay, that's new.
- 51:04Speaker 1: If I had AI, n out of the straight and
- 51:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, So operations, I could give
- 51:10Speaker 1: you all the little mini lessons, but the umbrella of
- 51:13Speaker 1: operations is really what covers everything else.
- 51:16Speaker 2: And would you would you advise like one probably got
- 51:19Speaker 2: COO or have like different people that's like this person's
- 51:23Speaker 2: job is that, that person's job is that.
- 51:25Speaker 1: So it depends on what stage of business that you're in,
- 51:29Speaker 1: because a COO is not cheap. So if you're a
- 51:31Speaker 1: business making three hundred thousand dollars a year, you can't
- 51:34Speaker 1: afford a COO because that's their salary, you understand what
- 51:37Speaker 1: I'm saying. But if you're making two million, three million,
- 51:40Speaker 1: four million dollars a year, you absolutely need a C
- 51:44Speaker 1: suite level COO. Right, I'm gonna be very clear. I'm
- 51:48Speaker 1: gonna give you'all some non traditional advice. A COO level
- 51:51Speaker 1: that has proven ability to scale a business like yours
- 51:55Speaker 1: because they've done it before, or somebody who's younger that's
- 51:59Speaker 1: super hungry because you know, you ever see those people
- 52:02Speaker 1: that are super hungry. They young, but they're super hungry
- 52:05Speaker 1: and they worked in every single position in the business,
- 52:08Speaker 1: so they know the business. No, they don't have it
- 52:09Speaker 1: on their resume, but they're so hungry and they've learned
- 52:12Speaker 1: the business because they put their hands in it. But
- 52:14Speaker 1: if you are growing an enterprise. You need the level
- 52:17Speaker 1: of expertise, but not just expertise on paper. You need
- 52:21Speaker 1: the person that really is still willing to be boots
- 52:23Speaker 1: on the ground, because sometimes when you get these C
- 52:25Speaker 1: suite executives, they don't feel like they need to be
- 52:28Speaker 1: on the ground. You know that they don't feel like
- 52:31Speaker 1: they need to be on the ground. I'm guilty of
- 52:33Speaker 1: a shit. When the business got to a certain stage,
- 52:35Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, by the agreement with my former leadership,
- 52:38Speaker 1: I'm going to be thought leadership. I'm going to be
- 52:40Speaker 1: the Ronald McDonald. I'm going to do all of the
- 52:42Speaker 1: press and the marketing and the branding. I stop getting
- 52:44Speaker 1: in the field. But now guess who win the field.
- 52:47Speaker 1: I'm back in the field. You see my pop pups
- 52:50Speaker 1: I lines down the block because I'm back in the field.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I'm touching every sandwich. But it's almost like I'm that
- 52:55Speaker 1: baby again, learning my business all over again. And I'm
- 52:58Speaker 1: happy about that because now, well I'm listen what jay
- 53:02Speaker 1: Z said. If you can do it once, you can
- 53:03Speaker 1: do something about You can do it once, you can
- 53:05Speaker 1: do it twice. Like I've done it before, I can
- 53:07Speaker 1: do it all over again. But that operations piece, man,
- 53:10Speaker 1: that's the most critical, That is the most critical.
- 53:13Speaker 4: Is that a trait that you see in entrepreneurs today
- 53:17Speaker 4: that you that they're lacking, right, Like your story is
- 53:20Speaker 4: full of brasilience. I feel like people, a lot of
- 53:23Speaker 4: people who create business isn't during the pandemic?
- 53:25Speaker 3: What else you man, they're gone? It is?
- 53:29Speaker 4: Is it the lack of resilience organization operations? What was
- 53:33Speaker 4: your take on against this era of entrepreneurial.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Yea, there's a they didn't have a business. Yeah, no
- 53:40Speaker 2: real bisiness.
- 53:41Speaker 1: There was a lot. I agreed that there was no
- 53:45Speaker 1: real business. There's a couple of things. It's a couple
- 53:47Speaker 1: of variables here, Like you know, a lot of small
- 53:54Speaker 1: businesses they have great ideas, right, but no structural foundation
- 54:00Speaker 1: at all, not even like five percent, right. So I
- 54:03Speaker 1: be having to remind myself sometimes when I talk to
- 54:05Speaker 1: newer stage entrepreneurs that there's a lot of things that
- 54:08Speaker 1: they don't know, right, And ignorance is not less right,
- 54:12Speaker 1: And it's not even always their fault, right, It's because
- 54:17Speaker 1: we haven't always had the access to the information, which
- 54:20Speaker 1: is why y'all platform is so critical. And I admire
- 54:23Speaker 1: y'all so much because what y'all are doing for the culture,
- 54:26Speaker 1: nobody else has ever done, right, So we need more
- 54:30Speaker 1: of y'all, right to continue to educate in a way
- 54:33Speaker 1: where it doesn't feel so high level that entrepreneurs can understand.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Because most entrepreneurs startup founders. We're usually visionaries, right, like
- 54:43Speaker 1: most of us right, where the creatives aren't usually the
- 54:45Speaker 1: real technical like the creatives the victim. The creatives are
- 54:50Speaker 1: usually the ones that have the really big imagination. Well
- 54:52Speaker 1: I speak for myself anyway, like I got a really
- 54:54Speaker 1: big imagination, but operations this is not my thing. It's
- 54:57Speaker 1: just not I can do it. But like I don't
- 54:59Speaker 1: get up in a worl again like operations, I want
- 55:01Speaker 1: to do it. So I know my ministry, so I
- 55:04Speaker 1: know that I need to bring in an operations person
- 55:06Speaker 1: that can do the things that I don't love to do.
- 55:08Speaker 1: But I also need to keep my eyes on it,
- 55:10Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And I think that when
- 55:12Speaker 1: entrepreneurs understand that, yes, for a certain period of time,
- 55:17Speaker 1: you won't have to do HR. Yeah you're gonna have
- 55:18Speaker 1: to be an account Yeah you're gonna have to do
- 55:20Speaker 1: all of those things. But eventually you are going to
- 55:22Speaker 1: get emotionally, mentally, and physically stretched trying to be all
- 55:26Speaker 1: of these things in your business, that your business will
- 55:28Speaker 1: never be able to grow.
- 55:29Speaker 2: And that's a good point. I also think that the
- 55:31Speaker 2: social media thing is that a gifted a curse for
- 55:33Speaker 2: a lot of entrepreneurs because it's allowed people to skip steps. Yes,
- 55:38Speaker 2: so it allows you to make money from your Instagram page, right,
- 55:42Speaker 2: a good idea, a good look, and then before you
- 55:45Speaker 2: know it, you think that you have a business, but
- 55:49Speaker 2: you really don't because you never had to go through
- 55:51Speaker 2: the stages of actually building the foundation of what a
- 55:54Speaker 2: business actually entails. So you're making revenue and psychologically you
- 55:59Speaker 2: have a lot of confidence because you're like, well, I'm
- 56:02Speaker 2: an entrepreneur, I'm a business. And then as soon as
- 56:04Speaker 2: you hit a speed bump, you fall a car because
- 56:06Speaker 2: the house is built with no foundation.
- 56:09Speaker 1: And you and get no team right, hey, yeah, no
- 56:12Speaker 1: the team.
- 56:12Speaker 2: You have no infrastructure, you have no no plan in place,
- 56:16Speaker 2: you have nothing. And I think a lot of people,
- 56:19Speaker 2: I think that was a problem for a lot of people.
- 56:21Speaker 2: During the pandemic, it was good selling for a lot
- 56:24Speaker 2: of people on the Internet side. And then when things changed.
- 56:30Speaker 2: A lot of people realized or they maybe they didn't realize,
- 56:32Speaker 2: but they they got taken under because they never really
- 56:38Speaker 2: figured out what a business, what running a business really is.
- 56:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the truth. You know, before I had my restructure,
- 56:46Speaker 1: I had my restructure seven years in business. Restaurants don't
- 56:50Speaker 1: even last three years. The average restaurant does not last
- 56:54Speaker 1: three years. So it is so important for you to
- 56:57Speaker 1: have that team for you to understand business. Now that
- 57:00Speaker 1: I know what I know, my PSA to every entrepreneur
- 57:05Speaker 1: is you have the tools and the resources. I just
- 57:07Speaker 1: got a new friend and her name was Claudisher. Y'all
- 57:09Speaker 1: know what it is. Cord, Yes, Cord Cole Okay, Claudiesia.
- 57:14Speaker 1: And I literally immerse myself in research, like I'm the
- 57:18Speaker 1: ultimate researcher because I want to learn. I want to
- 57:20Speaker 1: get better. I want to be the best. I'm franchising now,
- 57:22Speaker 1: so like I've fallen in love with the franchise business.
- 57:25Speaker 1: So like I'm researching all of the things and I'm
- 57:27Speaker 1: being a student of the game all over again. And
- 57:29Speaker 1: you know it sounds cliche, but you have to be
- 57:32Speaker 1: a student of a game because you will get left.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Your business will leave you if you are not a
- 57:36Speaker 1: student of a game. I've been there. I know what
- 57:39Speaker 1: it feels like. When I came back in my company
- 57:41Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, I didn't even know where nothing was.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I didn't know where the files were. I didn't know
- 57:46Speaker 1: that I was a new hire in my own business.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Can you imagine people telling me where stuff is in
- 57:50Speaker 1: my own business because I wasn't running my company. That
- 57:53Speaker 1: is the most embarrassing thing in the world. So yes,
- 57:56Speaker 1: I can. I could do press in marketing all day long,
- 57:59Speaker 1: but I trusted those to run my business, and I
- 58:03Speaker 1: took my hands off the wheel. So this time around,
- 58:06Speaker 1: hands on wheel, third eye open, and just making sure
- 58:10Speaker 1: that I'm putting the proper pieces in place, even through
- 58:12Speaker 1: the hiccups, so that my business can continue to sustain.
- 58:15Speaker 1: But what I know for sure is that I have
- 58:18Speaker 1: a weather proof brand. And if you have a weather
- 58:21Speaker 1: proof brand, here it is. I'm all over Beyonce, the internet,
- 58:23Speaker 1: and I'm getting so many franchise requests every single day.
- 58:27Speaker 1: People still love my brand. People still want to franchise
- 58:31Speaker 1: my business and help me scale it. So I said,
- 58:33Speaker 1: I got something special. I have something special, So what
- 58:37Speaker 1: are you going to do with this level of specialness.
- 58:39Speaker 1: And I believe that we all had that gift in
- 58:41Speaker 1: our businesses. We just have to be able to unlock it.
- 58:44Speaker 3: I'm thinking about a question.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Come on, let's go. We can do it slightly Vegan
- 58:50Speaker 1: and Ghana, We're we talking about hello, so let's let's.
- 58:55Speaker 2: Talk about what we're going to do together. Since collaboration
- 58:58Speaker 2: is key. You can't on with the idea you want
- 59:02Speaker 2: to you want to inform people.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Sure, So I think everybody at this point has a
- 59:07Speaker 1: scene my Miss Rachel parody video where I was teaching
- 59:13Speaker 1: bankruptcy to grown adults and I made a joke I said,
- 59:17Speaker 1: sometimes you gotta put it on eight o weeights so
- 59:18Speaker 1: people can understand. But then when I was looking at
- 59:21Speaker 1: the comments, I realized and shout out to Wall Street Tramper.
- 59:24Speaker 1: He said something me was like, yo, like this is
- 59:26Speaker 1: really a thing, Like entrepreneurs will benefit off of it.
- 59:28Speaker 1: So it had my mind going, and I'm like, I
- 59:31Speaker 1: need to do like an online YouTube series that teaches
- 59:36Speaker 1: adults financial literacy but at a fifth grade level, right,
- 59:41Speaker 1: because you gotta show people that, like, the information is there,
- 59:45Speaker 1: but I'm gonna make you digest it in a way
- 59:48Speaker 1: where like you never knew that you can learn it
- 59:50Speaker 1: and it can be fun and hip at the same time.
- 59:52Speaker 1: So I'm so excited to be able to partner with
- 59:56Speaker 1: my fellow guys right here. Oh I like how to
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Scream with White. I love it on this YouTube digital series.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: And the reason why I'm excited about doing this with
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: y'all is because y'all really own the culture when it
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: comes to financial literacy for our people, right, And I
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: have gone through so many things in business that I
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: would like to call myself a student who's an expert. Right.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I've had a lot of challenges, but I've also had
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: a lot of growth opportunities. And with those things, I
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: know that that level of education will have a lot
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: of entrepreneurs. So you put that in a pot with
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Troy and Mishall and it's a level of success that
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: is really going to be so impactful. So it's called
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Pinky Piggy Bank, and we are going to be teaching
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: entrepreneurship through music. And you know, I'm going to use
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: our favorite songs that we grew up to and translate things.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Were talking about trusts, We've talked about bankruptcy already. We're
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: talking about LLCs and safe notes and equity and cat tables,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: all of the things that a lot of people don't understand.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: I'm putting it in a song.
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: I mean when you we got the text message, whoever
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: could call me first call me? And when I heard
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: these segment in your voice, I'm like, oh, this is
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: something special.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: It was easy. I'm like, yo, shy, this is gonna
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: be easy. Yeah, ping gonna do this. Let's do it.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Talk to them about the details when they can see it.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Yeah. So our first episode is dropping April seventeenth, and
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: I'm excited about it. I ain't gonna tell you how
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: the song. Y'all gonna diele me, but it's gonna be great, man,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: because every week you will be able to learn something
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: new about business. So now there is no excuse so
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: entrepreneurs can say, well I didn't know, Yes you did,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: because I put in a wreck. I put in a
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: a eights okay, And we just go and educate them assters.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I feel like we collectively have a platform to educate
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: and learn, and one thing that I will say about
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: all three of us is that we do that very
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: very well. And I think this is just another vertical
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: of doing what we do best, and I'm excited to
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: be in partnership with y'all and then we're gonna make
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a lot of measure head.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: That's the only way. Thank you for trusting us with
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: your vision, working with us. Welcome to the network. But
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: I think it's just important just to spread the message
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: to many people as possible, because people really look up
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: to you as for entrepreneurship. So you can look up
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: to somebody and learn from everything that they've done correctly,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: every mistake that they've made, everything, like you know, that's
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: really like mentorship and real time. That's that's gonna be okay, sure, yeah,
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: I'm mistake.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and like it's been your ecosystem. Okay, give me
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: that data listener.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: I mean that it goes back to the idea of
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: like I'm turning this into something bothertive right when.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: You did it, when we spoke to you, like I
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: was like super uncomfortable about doing a rapping.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: I ain't really my thing, and then I put it
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: up in like a million views.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: Oh this is how people need to learn.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: That's how they need to learn. So I mean, yeah,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I'm paying for so you know, I always said I
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: wanted to be a rapper. Here we go, here we go,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: and we're gonna make it fun. It's gonna be good.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: And it's not just for adults. Kids can learn from
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: it too, you know what I'm saying. So there's so
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: many ways and places that this can go. And I'm
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: excited about us activating it, investeds and people getting to
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: see it in real time. But it's gonna be good
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: and and and so many people are going to be
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: able to be inspired about what it is that we're building.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Well, there you have it. Thank you again for your time.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Anything else that you want to let that lets people know.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to talk to every single entrepreneur. I
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: don't look at the camera, Okay, every single entrepreneur that
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: is watching this program. You are looking at somebody who
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: has cried, who has died, who has lost it all,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: gotten it back, been compromised in business, boarded, business back restructuring.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I'm like a cat, I got non lives. So you
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: were looking at somebody who has experience at loss, but
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: you're also looking at somebody who has experience and faith. Okay.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: So the difference between a winner and a loser is
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: that a winner never quits So if you feel like
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: throwing at the towel, rethink it again, do something different,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: pivot a little bit. Because what it is that you
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: are working on, God put it in your spirit for
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: a reason, and you gotta trust your gut even when
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: it feels uncomfortable, even when that thing feels dead. My
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: brother in law has been in the hospital since December
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: twenty eighth. When he went to the hospital, he had
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: a stroke, a massive stroke, and he did not open
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: up his eyes for ten days. And I watched people.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: They didn't say it, but I could feel the energy
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: of defeat around him because they didn't know if this
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: man was going to open up his eyes. And then
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: eventually he started to open up one eye, and that
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: he opened up the next eye, and then eventually he
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: started twiddling his fingers, and then he eventually started writing,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: and now he's starting to talk. But I'm telling you
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: that because God will give you your motion back, no
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: matter what it is that you've lost, you will get
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: your motion back every single time. Even when people are
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: surrounded around you and they think that you're dead, they
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: think that you can't hear that they're talking and they're criticizing.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: God will give you everything that you lost, he will
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: give it back times ten. I'm a living witness, and
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: it compelled me to share that with any entrepreneur going
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: through a hard time because I get the messages, but
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: just no, do not give up. God will give you
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: everything that you lost and you'll get it back. Thomson
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: always leave us.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: With an emotional message that's right on time for the
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: times that we're in. So I don't even know say
