Latest / Mini Scroll / Antipasto-Gate: A Full Breakdown of TikTok's Viral Small Town Drama
Transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to a mini deep dive for this Friday's
- 0:04episode. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:07the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:12You guys really liked a couple weeks ago when I did one story
- 0:16on Friday as like a mini deep dive for you guys in lieu of a
- 0:20mini scroll or a bigger deep dive.
- 0:22So I am here today for that and we're going to be talking about
- 0:25Antipastigate. This is literally viral all over
- 0:31TikTok and has been for the past couple of weeks.
- 0:34Alex on my team is obsessed with this story and she kept asking
- 0:37me to cover it on mini and I was like, this just feels like
- 0:40there's nothing to say. And then it just kept
- 0:42snowballing and snowballing and snowballing and I was like, OK,
- 0:45the time has come. So the situation, it's all
- 0:50centered around 1/4 of July party.
- 0:53Yes, 4th of July. It's been going on that long.
- 0:56So a woman named Nicole arrived at a 4th of July party with
- 1:00homemade anti pasta salad in hand and instead of being
- 1:04welcomed by the hosts, she was kicked out in a pretty horrible
- 1:08way. Nicole went on to post to TikTok
- 1:10talking about the situation. In tears.
- 1:12Nicole explained how she thought she had been invited to the
- 1:15party by her son's best friend's mother.
- 1:17Son's best friend's mother. OK, she had messaged asking if
- 1:21she needed to bring anything and was repeatedly thanking them for
- 1:24inviting her since she's new to the area.
- 1:26As soon as she arrived, she introduced herself to the
- 1:29attendees, but the vibes she said were off.
- 1:32Everyone at the event seemed surprised that she was there.
- 1:35The hosts named Stasia and Jake Hicks were extremely nasty to
- 1:39Nicole and she ended up having to leave the event distraught.
- 1:43She also ended up leaving her salad, which everyone was very
- 1:47upset about on TikTok. So I made an Antipasto salad
- 1:51like this. Big, gorgeous salad.
- 1:54And I asked, you know, is there anything you want me to bring?
- 1:57You know, thank you so much. I was so gracious.
- 1:59I kept reiterating that thank you so much for like, inviting
- 2:02me. And I don't know anybody here.
- 2:04Like, and I get there and the kids get out and I grab the
- 2:10Antipasto and I brought one beer with me because I was only going
- 2:14to drink one beer because I, I don't know, like I have kids to
- 2:19drive home. Honestly, never been treated
- 2:22like this before. And I just, I can't like imagine
- 2:25like having a party at your house and treating a guest like
- 2:28this, even if like maybe it was a surprise.
- 2:31I don't know. OK, so this initial video went
- 2:33extremely viral, accumulating over 35 million views and 3.5
- 2:39million likes at the time of researching.
- 2:41The comments were overwhelmingly supportive, with many users
- 2:44shocked by how seemingly horrible Nicole had been
- 2:47treated. Naturally, TikTok users felt
- 2:49inclined to find Stasia and Jake's social media profiles and
- 2:54tell them their thoughts on the situation.
- 2:56Stasia did go on to post a response video to the backlash.
- 2:59It has since been deleted. But in this video, she was not
- 3:03apologetic. She started the video by
- 3:05clarifying that she and her husband are not mean people.
- 3:09She continued by saying that Nicole had come into their house
- 3:12quote unannounced, which I don't understand because Nicole was
- 3:17invited but OK. In Stasia's words, the reason
- 3:20why they were rude to Nicole was because it was a quote get
- 3:23together of people who knew each other.
- 3:25What does that mean? Because they didn't want a
- 3:28stranger in their house. She's not like a total stranger
- 3:31to you. She was invited, OK.
- 3:32Stassia also added that her husband reached out to Nicole to
- 3:35apologize to her, but she quote didn't accept that answer.
- 3:39I am not a mean person. My husband is not a mean person.
- 3:44We are not mean people. Neither is my mother-in-law.
- 3:47We simply did not know who this person was that come into our
- 3:53house unannounced to not a party.
- 3:58Let's clarify, this was not a party.
- 4:00This was a get together of people who knew each other, OK?
- 4:05And just because we didn't know her doesn't mean that she
- 4:07couldn't have stayed and hung out.
- 4:08We just didn't want her in our house, OK?
- 4:12And there's nothing wrong with that.
- 4:13So to you people that are getting on TikTok and all my
- 4:17social medias, first of all, or my husband's or my mother in
- 4:19law's so forth, so on and trying to bully us, I don't care.
- 4:24I really don't because you don't know the story.
- 4:26You weren't here. And for you to feel like you
- 4:29have to be behind the phone to bully somebody else that you
- 4:32don't even know about, that says law about you, not me.
- 4:36Nicole did share her conversation with Jake.
- 4:40During the conversation she held her ground saying it was
- 4:42unacceptable to be treated like that.
- 4:45Nicole's husband Chris also jumped in on the call, backing
- 4:48his wife and describing the situation as quote trash and
- 4:51quote not Christian like behavior.
- 4:53Nothing was meant yesterday by the way it sounded.
- 4:57The only reason I come into the house is because I I didn't know
- 5:00who you was and I feel like it would have been the same at your
- 5:04house. Like you don't want to leave
- 5:06your house for somebody you. Don't let me interject for a
- 5:09second. It wouldn't have been that way.
- 5:11I don't treat people like that. And the way I was treated was
- 5:13completely irreparable. So I mean, you can sit here and
- 5:17tell me that. You can turn it around on me and
- 5:20act like I did something wrong, but I didn't.
- 5:23I'm just called to say I'm sorry you got that the wrong way.
- 5:28Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm going to dime you out there
- 5:31right now, Bob, because I'm going to say this right, I'm
- 5:34Chris, by the way, and I'm going to say this right now.
- 5:37The way your mother came at my wife hot like that, just being a
- 5:43wretched human being, that's unacceptable.
- 5:46That is not very Christian like behavior.
- 5:49And I'm going to tell you right now that no matter where I've
- 5:52ever been in my life, in every state that I've lived in, nobody
- 5:58treats anybody like that. Many Tick Tock users also found
- 6:01it weird, if not concerning, that Jake said that he was
- 6:04expecting Nicole to drop off her child and then leave.
- 6:08This left users questioning why the Hicks wouldn't want Nicole
- 6:12to stay anyway. Nicole also stitched Stasia's
- 6:15video response. In it, she shared an audio
- 6:17recording of a phone call that she had with someone else who
- 6:20was there named Samantha and quote UN quote proved Stasia and
- 6:24Jake knew that she was coming beforehand.
- 6:26I was setting down food and I was chatting like I didn't know
- 6:30that I I'm not some party crasher who's coming to rob your
- 6:34house. Exactly, And I even told them
- 6:38before you showed up so they knew that a kids friends parents
- 6:43were coming. And then because me and mom, we
- 6:46talked a lot about this last night and I was like, you know,
- 6:52I understand that I should have said something.
- 6:54It wasn't my house. I should have introduced them.
- 6:57But I am so I don't know the word like such an antisocial
- 7:03person that when I get around people I don't know how I'm
- 7:07supposed to do things the correct way.
- 7:10You know in the caption she wrote, don't try and make me
- 7:13look like some criminal because I called you out for being
- 7:15horrible behind closed doors. The mean girl attitude is insane
- 7:19and your husband's apology was BS.
- 7:22So amid all of this, so much personal information about
- 7:26everyone involved is getting leaked on the Internet, which is
- 7:29obviously never a good thing. Many TikTok users are fixated on
- 7:33the pictures circulating of the Hicks's house.
- 7:36These users I guess expected the house to be the grand, you know,
- 7:40some like MC Mansion, which would explain why Stasia and her
- 7:45husband were so protective of it.
- 7:46I'm a little late to this whole Stasia Hicks anti pasta drama of
- 7:50it. All right, I'm I'm late to the
- 7:51party. But when I heard about this
- 7:53story and then I went looking for the the culprits, Stasi and
- 7:58her husband, I said, oh, they track that tracks like that
- 8:02tracks for me. I they, they look exactly how I
- 8:04imagined them to look right? Then the mother-in-law, I'm like
- 8:08that tracks too. Then I went to go look at like
- 8:11the house, like the video of the house.
- 8:13And I said I didn't expect the house to look like this.
- 8:18I'm not. Trying to home shame I lived in
- 8:20a shed at one point but don't come on here treating people and
- 8:28acting like you live in $1,000,000 home in a gated
- 8:33community. Got to show.
- 8:35Photo ID at the booth to get in and then, and then oh, they can
- 8:40drop the kid off. No, nobody's dropping their kid
- 8:43off here without meeting you or coming inside and checking
- 8:46first. OK, so this was all pretty bad,
- 8:48but things took a turn for the worse when the police got
- 8:52involved. Nicole went on to post another
- 8:54video sharing that a special agent had left his card on her
- 8:58car. She included security footage
- 9:00with the agent arriving to her house, and many TikTok users
- 9:04were confused because it was seemingly a personal vehicle.
- 9:07Aside from the footage, she shared the phone conversation
- 9:10with the special agent, who claims that he was calling to
- 9:13chat with her husband about a quote threat that he made to the
- 9:16Sheriff's Office. Nicole said her husband did not
- 9:18threaten the department and was at work at the time of the call.
- 9:22She added that they shouldn't be accused of something like this
- 9:24without appropriate evidence. Chris later jumped on the phone,
- 9:27saying that he was willing to produce his phone records to
- 9:30prove that he didn't make this phone call.
- 9:32During the phone call, the police officers played the voice
- 9:34recording of the threat and it sounded nothing like Chris.
- 9:39You really thought that southern accent resembled a northern
- 9:41accent? That's definitely not me.
- 9:48Not what? What kind of accent?
- 9:51My it's not. The southern accent from around
- 9:55here, it's just a different accent, I don't really know
- 9:58what. Many things from We're from
- 9:59Vermont. Yeah, we have hard.
- 10:01We have hard hours on our motherfuckers.
- 10:03To make it more complicated, TikTok users are convinced that
- 10:07the person who made the phone call is actually Jake Stasia's
- 10:10husband because they had heard him on the phone when he called
- 10:13to quote UN quote apologize. There are two reasons floating
- 10:17around TikTok as to why they would have done this.
- 10:20First is that many TikTok users believe that the Hicks are close
- 10:23friends with the sheriff, and the second is that many TikTok
- 10:26users have come to the conclusion that Jake against
- 10:29Dossier's husband, works with the sheriff or the police in
- 10:32some capacity. Ultimately, the comments were
- 10:34very supportive of Nicole and her family, with many
- 10:37encouraging her to chat to a lawyer and saying that this kind
- 10:40of intimidation is unfortunately extremely common in small towns.
- 10:43Apparently, as one user wrote, quote.
- 10:46I'm so glad you're in a position to bring public attention to
- 10:48this. These small town intimidation
- 10:50tactics thrive in secrecy. I'm sorry that is wild.
- 10:54I don't know. I'm from Toronto which is like a
- 10:56really big city and I obviously live in Sydney which is also a
- 10:59big city. I cannot believe that people are
- 11:01saying this is like commonplace. It seems Nicole followed their
- 11:05advice but in a follow up video she revealed that she's been
- 11:08trying to get in contact with some lawyers but nobody will
- 11:10take her case because they know the Hicks.
- 11:13So it would be a quote conflict of interest.
- 11:16I've been on the phone trying to get in contact with lawyers but
- 11:20it seems like I can't get far enough away for it not to be a
- 11:23conflict of interest, so I'm going to have to be searching a
- 11:25little bit further. Nicole has since shared that she
- 11:28made a T-shirt to help pay for any legal fees.
- 11:31The shirt has a picture of the salad and it reads I brought
- 11:35anti pasto. Wait, I don't think I explained.
- 11:38Nicole handmade this Antipasto plate.
- 11:41OK like this salad. Apparently she like grew the
- 11:45tomatoes herself. She made like everything from
- 11:48scratch. Like everything was from her
- 11:49garden. Apparently she's also like a
- 11:50chef or a cook. Anyways, people are losing their
- 11:54minds and very upset. Like I said that she left this
- 11:58amazing looking Antipasto dish. OK.
- 12:00The Scott County Sheriff, which is where this is all taking
- 12:03place, has since gone on to issue a statement about the
- 12:05situation on their official Facebook page.
- 12:08You guys, this anti pastor drama has literally.
- 12:11I can't like the Sheriff's Office having to make a comment
- 12:14about this. To boil it all down, the
- 12:16statement clarifies that the sheriff is not acting in any
- 12:19favoritism and that the sheriff is not close personal friends
- 12:22with any of the people involved. Interestingly, though the
- 12:25comments have been restricted, Nicole has since responded to
- 12:28the statement, taking issue with one claim.
- 12:30Aside from the refuting of allegations of favoritism, the
- 12:34statement also claimed that the police is not involved involved
- 12:37in the incident in any way. The statement reads quote, we
- 12:40want to stress that Sheriff adds and the Scott County Sheriff's
- 12:43Office was not and is currently not involved in this incident in
- 12:46any way. The Scott County Sheriff's
- 12:48Office was not dispatched to the scene, nor did the individual
- 12:51involved file any formal complaints with our office or
- 12:53any other law enforcement agency.
- 12:55There were no deputies or Sheriff's Office employees
- 12:58present at the scene and there is no current investigation into
- 13:01the initial incident. So Nicole claims this is not
- 13:03totally accurate given that she is a video of an agent arriving
- 13:06at her house and leaving a note on her car.
- 13:08Now obviously it could be argued that the statement is referring
- 13:12to the 4th of July like gathering specifically, but
- 13:16either way, viewers are suspicious.
- 13:18If you had nobody come to the scene or were involved in the
- 13:23incident, then why do I have videotape of the state police
- 13:28showing up because you had summoned them to my property?
- 13:32That's a big question I have. The other thing is I am
- 13:37extremely curious in knowing if you happen to figure out who,
- 13:45who called since it was so serious to send special
- 13:49investigators to my house and it was so important to talk to my
- 13:54husband. I'm very curious what have you
- 13:57done for the situation since then?
- 14:01Since you're not involved in everything, What's going on?
- 14:04Now, Nicole's son has been caught in the crossfire of all
- 14:07of this, and his personal information has allegedly been
- 14:10doxed. There have been comments under
- 14:13Nicole's videos alleging that a friend or family member of the
- 14:16Hicks works at her son's school and is leaking his information.
- 14:20In a video posted over the weekend, Nicole recorded a phone
- 14:22conversation that seemingly confirmed this claim.
- 14:25I'm not. For sure How?
- 14:27The relation is there, I just know that they are family and
- 14:31then also she is dating taken you know him.
- 14:38I don't. It's like the active.
- 14:42School teacher. OK.
- 14:44But he's also. Teacher, as Nicole shared in the
- 14:46caption quote, I received a long apology from my son's friend and
- 14:50some very needed clarification on just how my son's information
- 14:53got doxxed and a little perspective on the situation.
- 14:56And the final update that I have on this story is that now Stasia
- 15:02has apparently been fired and that is the story of Tik Tok's
- 15:074th of July anti pasta gate. I don't even know how to feel
- 15:11about this because the behavior of the Hicks is so deeply
- 15:16inappropriate and unhinged and I have no idea why they would
- 15:19freak out when Nicole was in their house.
- 15:20And I don't know. And of course I think they must
- 15:23have just been mad when they saw her initial video and they
- 15:25realized it was about her but she didn't even name them.
- 15:27That's the thing, when Stacia made that response video, nobody
- 15:31knew it was her. It's wild.
- 15:33It is so wild. So anyways guys, I am sure a lot
- 15:35of you guys have been seeing so much discourse around this
- 15:38online. So that is essentially A
- 15:39chronological timeline into the 4th of July anti pasta gate.
- 15:44Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 15:46Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 15:49Please buy us a coffee. A link is in the bio if you guys
- 15:51want to support us and I will talk to you on Monday and then
- 15:54next Friday there will be a new big deep dive.
- 15:57OK, bye.
