- 0:00Speaker 1: So we just got back from Bilky Crab Party.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Oh, it was a wonderful time at Bilky.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We love Bilkey.
- 0:09Speaker 2: We love Bilkey. And we're saying Bilky instead of the
- 0:13Speaker 2: actual name of the music festival because it's our little secret.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Yes, but I will explain for context. Now it's Kilby
- 0:20Speaker 1: Block Party in Salt Lake City, Utah, the rapidly growing
- 0:25Speaker 1: music festival out of the Rocky Mountain region.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yes, this is kind of a difficult place for musicians
- 0:33Speaker 2: to get to, so we don't get as many concerts
- 0:36Speaker 2: in this region of the States. It feels like the
- 0:39Speaker 2: coasts and then some Midwest things.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and like the South.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they tend to all get things. But there's just
- 0:47Speaker 2: a desert metaphorically and physically.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we have deserts or planes in every direction around us.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Oh, yes we do. But now there is Kilby Block Party.
- 1:02Speaker 1: In Mormon Town.
- 1:03Speaker 2: It's not like City, Utah, Mormontown, USA.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I would actually say anything. I know Mormons, some of
- 1:10Speaker 1: them have their issues with just the powerful ones. Really,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm going to say this. I was thinking earlier on
- 1:17Speaker 1: our drive home. Why is Kilby Block Party such like
- 1:20Speaker 1: a nice festival, such like a nice kind kind concert
- 1:25Speaker 1: environment to be in, and I kind of think it's
- 1:28Speaker 1: because pretty much everyone there was, whether they're Mormon or
- 1:31Speaker 1: not anymore. I think everyone was like raised Mormon, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: so everyone's got like base level politeness.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yes, like where it came from, I'm not gonna judge,
- 1:43Speaker 2: but people were genuinely kind and polite throughout the entire
- 1:48Speaker 2: time of a massive amount of people.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Like, one of the stories from the festival this
- 1:54Speaker 1: year is a baby robin injured its leg. I guess
- 2:00Speaker 1: I don't know how could have been like stepped on
- 2:03Speaker 1: by someone, could have been I don't even want to
- 2:05Speaker 1: think about it. Yes, but what's important is an attendee
- 2:09Speaker 1: of the festival handed the robin over to security, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: it turns out someone working security works at the local
- 2:16Speaker 1: animal rescue shelter, and so they handed it onto that member.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And the robin is making a full recovery.
- 2:22Speaker 2: The robin's fine.
- 2:24Speaker 1: The robin's fine.
- 2:25Speaker 2: The robin is fine and was well taken care of.
- 2:28Speaker 1: The robin is fine. It is actually one of my
- 2:30Speaker 1: favorite bands that played at the festival.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Gosh, the Robin is fine. The Salt Lake City Conservation
- 2:36Speaker 2: Center was my favorite band, Yes, that played just a
- 2:40Speaker 2: beautiful experience.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, the city was great as well. Before we talk
- 2:44Speaker 1: about the music, which I suppose is the thing related
- 2:47Speaker 1: to pop culture which connects it to this podcast. Yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I do want to talk about Salt Lake City. I'm
- 2:53Speaker 1: loving the food scene there. I think. Yes, there's a
- 2:56Speaker 1: restaurant we went to called the goats Head goat Heads
- 2:59Speaker 1: something like that. Goat singular goat goats heads.
- 3:03Speaker 2: One goat, one head, GoAhead, goat head, got ya. I
- 3:07Speaker 2: mean it is the grand demonic goat, and so there's
- 3:10Speaker 2: one goat, there's one head for now, for now, so
- 3:15Speaker 2: it becomes a full surpress. Yeah, goat that My next
- 3:19Speaker 2: favorite band from vegetare this the restaurant you? I appreciate
- 3:25Speaker 2: you so much for finding good restaurants for us to
- 3:28Speaker 2: go to. I would eat a BLT every single day
- 3:32Speaker 2: of my life, But I am a vegetarian. As a vegetarian,
- 3:36Speaker 2: this is a problem. This is a source of strain
- 3:39Speaker 2: for me, especially because if I'm going to like break
- 3:43Speaker 2: vegetarian for anything, pig is the thing that I would
- 3:46Speaker 2: feel the worst about.
- 3:47Speaker 1: They all like little dogs with feelings.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Uh huh. They decorate their houses. They're smarter than dogs. Yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 2: I just my brain can't process doing that without such
- 4:00Speaker 2: severe guilt. But they had a vegan BLT. We went back.
- 4:05Speaker 2: We went there on Saturday. We went back on Sunday.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Some of the same people were working and watched me
- 4:11Speaker 2: order the vegan BLT a second day in a row.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But there was no judgment in their eyes.
- 4:17Speaker 2: No, they knew, they knew the quality of the product
- 4:22Speaker 2: that they were providing, and they're like, this makes sense. Yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 2: of course we see you again.
- 4:29Speaker 1: They've finally done it. I think vegan bacon is finally there.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Whatever this product is. I mean, I think we might
- 4:35Speaker 1: even find out their supplier and get some for the home,
- 4:38Speaker 1: because oh my goodness.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Oh I already have you already have I just haven't
- 4:42Speaker 2: mentioned it to you. You gonna use it as a
- 4:45Speaker 2: surprise for an event, like a bottle of champagne.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I mean, I can imagine the price probably with how
- 4:52Speaker 1: good this bacon was. They they finally done it, done it.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I feel like ten years ago they was when they
- 4:58Speaker 1: introduced like the Impossible Ease, and it was like the
- 5:02Speaker 1: first wave of like this basically takes like a beef burger,
- 5:06Speaker 1: especially when you put all the acoutremon on top. Of it. Yes,
- 5:09Speaker 1: if that's the correct word. It is now cutremon on
- 5:12Speaker 1: top of it. Also another great band.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And then about five years ago they figured out plant
- 5:17Speaker 1: based chicken of how to get that like stringy, pull
- 5:20Speaker 1: apart thing that people like with fried chicken and stuff
- 5:23Speaker 1: like that. Pig has been a long way off for
- 5:25Speaker 1: a long time. Becan bacon has been bad.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I swear like even six months ago, I think I
- 5:32Speaker 2: tried a vegan bacon and was like, m not it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yep, back to the drawing board.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I'll stick with breakfast sausage. They've gotten that veacan, they've
- 5:43Speaker 2: gotten that especially, Oh like a vegan breakfast burrito. Oh yeah,
- 5:48Speaker 2: that breakfast sausage so good. We don't have to travel
- 5:51Speaker 2: to Salt Lake for that. No, like down the road,
- 5:54Speaker 2: down the road, we can get that. This bacon bacon
- 5:57Speaker 2: with a K. Yes, I found it already, as previously
- 6:01Speaker 2: established incredible. I could have it on its own, I
- 6:05Speaker 2: could put it in a breakfast burrito. I could use
- 6:08Speaker 2: it as a garnish on a cocktail. The possibilities are
- 6:12Speaker 2: only limited by my imagination.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I had it in a delicious vegan breakfast sandwich with
- 6:17Speaker 1: vegan egg some kind of delicious relish in a pretzel bun.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It was called a Laura Jane Grace, named after the
- 6:24Speaker 1: punk musician which we should link this back to music,
- 6:27Speaker 1: we should. I should talk about the milky we saw
- 6:30Speaker 1: at Bilky is what I was going to say, the
- 6:33Speaker 1: music we saw at Kilby.
- 6:34Speaker 2: It's just very fun to mix up the letters it is.
- 6:38Speaker 2: It's a whimsical festival. We saw an amount of good
- 6:42Speaker 2: music that boggles my mind.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Should we talk about the headliners, the big acts?
- 6:48Speaker 1: I suppose like it started Thursday night this year and
- 6:51Speaker 1: it was Divo into New Order as like two legendary
- 6:56Speaker 1: new wave of acts.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Diva was a party, yeah, in their seventies, Yes, absolutely
- 7:03Speaker 2: going for it. There were costume changes, yep involved in
- 7:07Speaker 2: this show. There were some recent songs that they've put
- 7:10Speaker 2: out that went just as hard as whip it.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah. They were still so catchy.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Mm hmm. They know what they're doing. They love it.
- 7:19Speaker 2: They were having a party, and so I was having
- 7:22Speaker 2: a milky clock party.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Always loving milky, alm loving milky. I guess so that'll
- 7:31Speaker 1: be the flag next year? Mm hm oh. Yeah. And
- 7:34Speaker 1: New Order are a band that I guess I could
- 7:37Speaker 1: have gone to see at a festival, but when I
- 7:40Speaker 1: was because they regularly played festivals in the UK, but
- 7:42Speaker 1: I just couldn't afford festivals back then.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Oh yes, and we get to see New Order and
- 7:47Speaker 2: we get to dance and we get to listen to
- 7:50Speaker 2: some Joy Division songs as well.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah, they threw in a few Joy Division songs. It
- 7:54Speaker 1: was It was great level terrors apart. Was the encore
- 7:59Speaker 1: just a whole I don't know, everyone erupted in a
- 8:02Speaker 1: way that was like, oh, this is just the start
- 8:04Speaker 1: of the weekend. Like yes, everyone was walking away from
- 8:07Speaker 1: that one like the party has begun.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Which is so fun to be Like, that's the tone
- 8:14Speaker 2: that we're starting this weekend on. Like a legendary act.
- 8:18Speaker 2: That absolutely delivered.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Then on Friday, among other acts, we both saw Perfume,
- 8:24Speaker 1: genius artists we've both loved for quite a while who
- 8:29Speaker 1: his like discography of like the last I think he's
- 8:32Speaker 1: about five or six albums or something, and they're all
- 8:35Speaker 1: so good. They're all of such high quality that seeing
- 8:39Speaker 1: him play a bunch of new stuff from the latest
- 8:42Speaker 1: album and then just the hits and highlights from his
- 8:46Speaker 1: discography makes you realize the body of work he's put
- 8:49Speaker 1: out in the last decade.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yes, because there's a few songs that I was really
- 8:53Speaker 2: excited to hear during that set, and then there was
- 8:58Speaker 2: a few other songs that I was like, oh shit,
- 9:01Speaker 2: I forgot that that was also Perfume Genius and I'm
- 9:03Speaker 2: obsessed with this song mm hmm. And so it was
- 9:06Speaker 2: really cool to have my expectation and then exceeded even
- 9:11Speaker 2: more so by my faulty memory. But I'm going to
- 9:16Speaker 2: attribute that to Perfume Genius. It's not my crappy memory,
- 9:22Speaker 2: it's just the good fucking music.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, he was fantastic. Then, also, we should recommend
- 9:30Speaker 1: a song because I feel like this was our song
- 9:32Speaker 1: of this festival, like our We didn't know this song
- 9:35Speaker 1: going in. There's a band called Mama.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Mm hmm. It was so fun to hear everybody reference Mama, like,
- 9:41Speaker 2: oh yeah, we're supporting Mama on tour. Oh yeah, we
- 9:44Speaker 2: just love Mama. We were hanging out with Mama the
- 9:46Speaker 2: other day. It was so adorable.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It's a great band name, unlike some of the ones
- 9:51Speaker 1: we've made up in the last ten minutes. Their song
- 9:55Speaker 1: is it just called Fever or is it called is
- 9:57Speaker 1: it one of those ones where it's like get a fever,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I want you parentheses.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's I want You Parentheses fever classic.
- 10:05Speaker 2: It's a very good summer bop. Yes, it's got the
- 10:09Speaker 2: little rocky tones to it for people who want something
- 10:12Speaker 2: to sink their teeth into. Me that's me from my
- 10:16Speaker 2: poppy tunes. And hearing it in the festival and hearing
- 10:19Speaker 2: people around us because we found the song on the drive.
- 10:22Speaker 1: On the drive day you kill the cool we are.
- 10:25Speaker 2: We were in the no but hearing people around us
- 10:29Speaker 2: be like, Okay, this song fucking goes Yes, like I
- 10:33Speaker 2: knew about it thirty six hours ago.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I feel like it was smart of them to play
- 10:39Speaker 1: it early in their set to kind of pull everyone over,
- 10:43Speaker 1: Oh who's this band actually? So to stop what you're
- 10:47Speaker 1: doing right now and listen to Mama.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Uh, don't necessarily stop what you're doing if you're listening
- 10:53Speaker 2: to this on Spotify.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Q yeah song finish this cue Fever by Mama Yes.
- 11:00Speaker 1: For after this on Friday, we also saw Rylo Kylie,
- 11:04Speaker 1: absolute legends of indie who I don't think have played
- 11:07Speaker 1: shows for like seventeen years. That felt special the Dream.
- 11:12Speaker 2: It was such a good show and I think everybody
- 11:14Speaker 2: there knew that they hadn't played shows in a long time,
- 11:18Speaker 2: and so there's a lot of people around us who
- 11:21Speaker 2: knew songs as well. When you're at a music festival,
- 11:23Speaker 2: it's a great chance to listen to bands that you
- 11:26Speaker 2: have generally an idea of but don't really know too
- 11:29Speaker 2: well and just enjoy and absorb and be like, ah,
- 11:33Speaker 2: this is a new band that I'm definitely going to
- 11:35Speaker 2: listen to after the festival. But when you're at those
- 11:38Speaker 2: sets where it feels special like they haven't performed in
- 11:42Speaker 2: a long time, and so people who love them are there.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I think we felt that energy and it was
- 11:48Speaker 1: a sunset and it was it was just I think
- 11:51Speaker 1: it was my favorite set of the weekend.
- 11:53Speaker 2: It was up there for me. It was my headliner
- 11:56Speaker 2: of that day, Yes, for sure.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yeah. And I've just now realized that I don't know
- 12:00Speaker 1: how interested people are in us just talking about the
- 12:03Speaker 1: lineup of the music festival we went to. So I'm
- 12:06Speaker 1: just going to skip to mentioning the headliners that people
- 12:08Speaker 1: definitely know. We saw Weezer on Saturday night. They were fun.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Mm hmmm. They were very fun. Another thing of like
- 12:16Speaker 2: people all knowing the songs.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that I think they were the stand out in
- 12:20Speaker 1: that regard, Like they did kind of seem a little
- 12:23Speaker 1: more bored than other artists, maybe because they're more successful
- 12:26Speaker 1: and have more money.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is like, I think the end of
- 12:29Speaker 2: the tour and they've they've been doing space travel a lot.
- 12:32Speaker 2: That was the theme. That was the theme of the show,
- 12:34Speaker 2: the space travel. They've been traveling the planet. They've been
- 12:37Speaker 2: space traveling for so long, they're tired. Yeah, I think
- 12:41Speaker 2: Rivers is tired now. But everyone knew the songs and
- 12:43Speaker 2: that was fun. And then justice on the final night.
- 12:46Speaker 2: They were a total dance party. Kind of known for
- 12:48Speaker 2: a long time as like the PEPSI daft punk. I
- 12:52Speaker 2: think seeing them live they really stood out as they
- 12:55Speaker 2: are their own thing completely.
- 12:57Speaker 1: The light show.
- 12:57Speaker 2: The light show was phenomenal. Some of the effects I
- 13:02Speaker 2: didn't know that one could do with lights. Yeah, I
- 13:06Speaker 2: thought the stage was breaking at one point, but no,
- 13:09Speaker 2: they had just rigged lights to move up and down,
- 13:11Speaker 2: like the physical location of the light was moving up
- 13:15Speaker 2: and down. The screens on the side of the stage
- 13:18Speaker 2: were moving up and down. It was a glorious dance
- 13:23Speaker 2: party and light extravaganza.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And a great way to end the festival.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yes, of such a dance party. Everybody leaving it out
- 13:32Speaker 2: on the field. Ye, leave it all on the.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Field, all on the floor. And that's the first kind
- 13:36Speaker 1: of half riff we've managed to develop when it because
- 13:38Speaker 1: it turns out it's hard to just riff on. Oh
- 13:41Speaker 1: these bands were really good.
- 13:43Speaker 2: It's hard to riff when you're just genuinely happy about someone.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It was a great time. I feel like we needed
- 13:48Speaker 1: that weekend of just letting out lots of dance energy
- 13:52Speaker 1: and also just receiving lots of I don't know, positive
- 13:55Speaker 1: artistic energy.
- 13:56Speaker 2: M hm.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And vegan daddy Meatsvegan daddy meats. Yeah, they were great.
- 14:03Speaker 1: They had vegan corn dogs. It was great to have
- 14:06Speaker 1: vegan corn dogs at a festival ground.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Vegan corn dogs. I had a vegan Arbi's sandwich of course.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that beef and cheddar or that and cheddar and
- 14:16Speaker 1: oh yeah, because it's not even cheddar. Is being vegetarian
- 14:21Speaker 1: and vegan being plant based is just when you remove vowels.
- 14:24Speaker 2: From face add an apostrophe in are we supposed.
- 14:28Speaker 1: To infer from that that vowels are meat and consonants
- 14:32Speaker 1: are plant based.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Gosh, that's yes.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I've never thought about it before, but like e I,
- 14:41Speaker 1: oh you those are meat They sound meaty.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Those are meaty.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Sound they've got fatty juices on them as letters.
- 14:48Speaker 2: It's I think it's why we enjoyed the plant based
- 14:53Speaker 2: foods at a music festival, because really we were just
- 14:57Speaker 2: living for the rhythms. A word that has arguably.
- 15:01Speaker 1: No found no vowels, well apart from why, is sometimes
- 15:04Speaker 1: considered a vowel linguistically mm hmmm, sometimes sometimes flexitarian.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, rhythm, rhythm is truly flexitarian, something we could get
- 15:16Speaker 2: some kind of comedic riff out of.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I'd say I make this observation too much, but then
- 15:21Speaker 1: Udra makes this observation twice as much as I do. Yes,
- 15:25Speaker 1: the bathroom situation at Kilby is impeccable. You can you
- 15:29Speaker 1: can find porta potties that haven't been used by anyone
- 15:32Speaker 1: all day. It's it's it's like they have one per person.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I know that's not true. You've got to find the
- 15:38Speaker 1: right ones hidden round corners.
- 15:39Speaker 2: But Matt is correct, he makes this observation probably the
- 15:43Speaker 2: correct amount.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Well, I'd say I still do it too much. In
- 15:46Speaker 1: that people don't like to talk about bathrooms.
- 15:49Speaker 2: They should. Everybody poops, everybody poops, and the pooping situation,
- 15:56Speaker 2: I don't think anybody had shipped in these porta potties
- 15:58Speaker 2: the entire weekend.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Well Mormons wouldn't, would they.
- 16:01Speaker 2: No, they'd go back to their fancy houses.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Ah.
- 16:05Speaker 2: But it was the best bathroom situation because it is
- 16:09Speaker 2: a state fair park and so there are like public
- 16:12Speaker 2: bathroom stall situations, so people were using those, and so
- 16:18Speaker 2: few people were using the porta potties. These are the
- 16:20Speaker 2: cleanest porta patties I've seen in my entire life. Yeah,
- 16:22Speaker 2: shout out to Honeybucket. Not sponsored, shout out, Oh God,
- 16:27Speaker 2: they don't. I don't even have to be sponsored by Honeybucket,
- 16:30Speaker 2: but Honeybucket porta potties doing the Lord's work at this
- 16:34Speaker 2: music festival.
- 16:35Speaker 1: It was three point thirty pm on the Saturday, I think,
- 16:40Speaker 1: mm hmm. And I used like a porta partty that
- 16:43Speaker 1: was a little like I had to walk an extra
- 16:45Speaker 1: ten meters compared to where the bulk of them were,
- 16:49Speaker 1: And I was genuinely like, I don't think this is
- 16:51Speaker 1: being used all weekend. I think I'm the first person
- 16:53Speaker 1: to use this.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Oh, they really take care of us. They take care
- 16:58Speaker 2: of us.
- 16:58Speaker 1: It's honestly cleaner than my bathroom sometimes.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yep, definitely cleaner than mine.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Oh shit, I've just realized we've been talking for almost
- 17:07Speaker 1: twenty minutes and we've not this is our this was
- 17:10Speaker 1: our cold open.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Ooh A thick cold open. Yeah, cold slice of open,
- 17:17Speaker 2: kind of like the big ice cream sandwiches that we
- 17:20Speaker 2: had at Kilby Black.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, we can't just talk more about all the
- 17:23Speaker 1: good times we had.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I think it all comes back around I'm playing the music,
- 17:37Speaker 2: so I guess we're doing things a little bit different
- 17:39Speaker 2: for this bonus round.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Yeah, we just got back from a festival. We just
- 17:43Speaker 1: got back from time away and hopped straight on a
- 17:45Speaker 1: microphone's plural.
- 17:47Speaker 2: As you do.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Let's just you know what. I didn't have that much
- 17:50Speaker 1: for the lily pads of irrelevancy anyway, so this will
- 17:53Speaker 1: probably work out quite nicely. So instead, should we do
- 17:58Speaker 1: mailbag stuff? Oh, before we get to mailbag, I have
- 18:02Speaker 1: a few things. You can follow us on Patreon. We

- 19:35Speaker 2: gonna shut up. Fingers crossed and shout out to our
- 19:39Speaker 2: new games Master, to your patron, Kristin Farley.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Kristin Foley is now a games master. Yes, Kristin Foley
- 19:45Speaker 1: is now an executive producer. Yes, oh my goodness, thank
- 19:49Speaker 1: you so much, Kristin. You're always so supportive and complimentary
- 19:53Speaker 1: and so kind about the episodes we make over on
- 19:57Speaker 1: the patreons, so that brings me so much joy. Thank you.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yes, we appreciate you so much. Thank you so much,
- 20:03Speaker 2: so much.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean thanks to you. This live show is happening.
- 20:07Speaker 1: It covers the cost of renting the theater. It covers
- 20:11Speaker 1: the cost of being able to pay the artists that
- 20:14Speaker 1: we have on our panel, yourself and the other executive producers.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You are supporting the arts. If that's what you can
- 20:20Speaker 1: call this, I hope we can.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I hope we can because I'm getting artistic fulfillment from it.
- 20:26Speaker 2: So God, I hope we can call it.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Gotta be something.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Now I have two muses to read out.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, time, we still need a mailbag jingle?
- 20:39Speaker 3: Right?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Is that still need a mailbag jingle? You've got pandemonium
- 20:44Speaker 2: mail nice. I was running out of air at the end.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm going to do one more take. You've got pandemonium
- 20:50Speaker 2: mail nice.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yeah, very good. I like you said thank you before
- 20:55Speaker 1: I complimented you.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Now I was thanking you for allowing me to do
- 20:59Speaker 2: my art.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Because that's what this is. This is art. I'll see
- 21:04Speaker 1: if I turn that into something, or if we come
- 21:07Speaker 1: up with a new jingle at some point, or if
- 21:08Speaker 1: anyone out there feels like making a jingle for our
- 21:11Speaker 1: mail bag, that would be awesome. Ooh, I know we've
- 21:14Speaker 1: got some talented musicians who listen.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I know we do.
- 21:17Speaker 1: But I'm Chris.
- 21:20Speaker 2: So here's mailbag. I have a muse from Drew. Yes, Drew,
- 21:25Speaker 2: thank you so much for sending in a muse about firefly.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Excellent. Firefly important to a lot of people.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yes, so Drew says, and there are no specific instructions, okay,
- 21:36Speaker 2: and so I'm going to read I'm just going to
- 21:38Speaker 2: read it. Yeah, do it, especially since the one after
- 21:40Speaker 2: this does have specific instructions. But I'm intimidated by. So
- 21:44Speaker 2: I'm going to take this time.
- 21:46Speaker 1: So I'm also gonna chip in at this point and say,
- 21:49Speaker 1: there's not been a set of instructions that you've not
- 21:51Speaker 1: been intimidated by yet.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Honestly, if someone told me to read it as myself,
- 21:57Speaker 2: the specificity of that would intimate date me.
- 22:00Speaker 1: And with that, reap this one as yourself.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Fuck off. This fandom holds such a special place in
- 22:07Speaker 2: my heart, and I could go on about a million
- 22:10Speaker 2: go ram things that explain why, but I'll instead just
- 22:13Speaker 2: share a story. A few buddies and I decided to
- 22:16Speaker 2: treat ourselves to a photo op with Captain Malcolm Reynolds himself,
- 22:20Speaker 2: the one and only fellow Canadian, Nathan Fillion, Nathan fill
- 22:24Speaker 2: me in, Nathan fill me in. At some point before
- 22:27Speaker 2: our photo time, we were made to clear a path
- 22:30Speaker 2: as security was escorting someone through the busy event space. Okay,
- 22:34Speaker 2: when suddenly the crowd parted and we were all stood
- 22:38Speaker 2: mere feet away from Nathan himself. We all sort of
- 22:41Speaker 2: just froze. But I recall him explaining once that the
- 22:45Speaker 2: best way to show him respect and not be overbearing
- 22:48Speaker 2: or taking away from his own time was just to
- 22:51Speaker 2: lock eyes, salute and say captain.
- 22:56Speaker 1: So I did nice.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He looked over at us, all eyed me up and down, smiled,
- 23:02Speaker 2: and said Eddie's with a wink. My wife put it best,
- 23:05Speaker 2: as the security detail then rushed him off and everything
- 23:08Speaker 2: returned to normal con chaos, as she said to our group,
- 23:13Speaker 2: anyone got a bucket to scoop up the puddle that
- 23:15Speaker 2: now is my husband?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Oh, that's incredible, What a memory, what a moment's.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Oh and the thing of respect of like this is
- 23:25Speaker 2: the best way to show if you want to show
- 23:28Speaker 2: that you are a fan of this.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yes, Captain got Eddie's.
- 23:33Speaker 2: And it's just a good way of being so respectful
- 23:36Speaker 2: of like I like the things that you do. Yes,
- 23:40Speaker 2: but I'm not gonna you're obviously moving from point A
- 23:43Speaker 2: to point b uh huh.
- 23:44Speaker 1: There's a security detail.
- 23:46Speaker 2: There is a security detail at play, And so it's
- 23:49Speaker 2: a really cool moment between the star of a show
- 23:52Speaker 2: that you really like and is really special to you
- 23:54Speaker 2: and yourself, and that's such a cool muse.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Thank you, Yeah, thank you, Drew. That's a great memory.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I also was imagining the security detail in Firefly costume
- 24:06Speaker 1: like because of that interaction being so k fabe.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Oh even if they weren't, they are now.
- 24:13Speaker 1: As the story gets retold, they are.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Now perceptions reality when it's yours, And that's how I'm
- 24:18Speaker 2: perceiving it. All right.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I think you could stole for as long as you
- 24:23Speaker 1: wanted with platitudes like that. But now, because I've genuinely
- 24:27Speaker 1: not seen these emails, I would like to know what
- 24:30Speaker 1: direction and instruction is making you nervous for reading the
- 24:34Speaker 1: next email.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Well, this one is from Aaron Randolph.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Aaron.
- 24:39Speaker 2: This one is inspired by Firefly, but is not a
- 24:43Speaker 2: muse of specifically okay Fly.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I mean we called for favorite shows, yes for about
- 24:50Speaker 1: Firefly like connected to.
- 24:52Speaker 2: M and Aaron absolutely delivered the instruction on this one. Adra.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Please read this as Owen Wilson frequently see adorable puppies.
- 25:03Speaker 1: You can do that.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Wow, what a cute little dog. It's like a normal dog,
- 25:09Speaker 2: but it's just so tiny. Aaron rights, here we go.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I'm a little behind. So I apologize, but my muse
- 25:17Speaker 2: is for Firefly. Wow, what a cute little dog? Would
- 25:21Speaker 2: have been the original space cowboys show far Escape. Okay,
- 25:27Speaker 2: maybe they're not exactly Cowboys, but they ended up with
- 25:31Speaker 2: enough episodes and gunfights that I feel it applies. Oh,
- 25:35Speaker 2: what a cute little dog. It's just Jennifer. Wow. Wow,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I gotta find I gotta rEFInd Owen Wilson.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Wow.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Wow, he's a little space here.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Maybe he's just so space here, kind of smoked to Dooby. Maybe,
- 25:52Speaker 1: but he hasn't.
- 25:53Speaker 2: What he hasn't.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Wow.
- 25:56Speaker 2: That's a cute little puppy.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah, go with puppy, puppy.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Wow. My love for this show comes from its use
- 26:05Speaker 2: of practical effects for all the aliens, the gender reversal
- 26:09Speaker 2: relationship between the emotional protagonist John and the cold peacekeeper
- 26:15Speaker 2: who prefers solving problems with violence Aaron, and the concept
- 26:20Speaker 2: of living in a biomechanical ship Moya, who is just
- 26:26Speaker 2: as much of it.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I don't think Wilson is seeing any dogs during anything else.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Who was just as much of a character on the
- 26:31Speaker 2: show as any of the others. Oh, I'm sorry, I
- 26:35Speaker 2: was trying to get the voice the reading out, but
- 26:38Speaker 2: there was just a puppy lick in my face. I
- 26:40Speaker 2: was trying, I was trying my hardest to get the
- 26:43Speaker 2: clean read for you. I think his name, I think
- 26:48Speaker 2: his name is Roscoe. This this little puppy. Wow. We
- 26:57Speaker 2: got four incredible seasons and a mini series that thankfully
- 27:01Speaker 2: wrapped everything up nicely. And I really hope that Firefly
- 27:05Speaker 2: would fill the hole left behind by Farscape's absence.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Fill me in.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Oh what a good dog.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Not the dog?
- 27:14Speaker 2: No, no, well instead it created its own hole. Now
- 27:20Speaker 2: I've got multiple holes and I'm begging someone to fill
- 27:24Speaker 2: them all right. Oh wait, I mean actually I'm fine
- 27:27Speaker 2: with any interpretation of that center. Thank you, Aaron. That
- 27:33Speaker 2: was a phenomenal muse.
- 27:35Speaker 1: That Yes, far Escape, I do I didn't watch it,
- 27:38Speaker 1: but I do remember it as a as a concept,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and I do remember the commercials being very practical effects heavy,
- 27:46Speaker 1: and it having a very tightly knit fan base at
- 27:49Speaker 1: one point.
- 27:50Speaker 2: And those practical effects, I think once CG got prominent,
- 27:54Speaker 2: people were like, ooh, this is the new cool thing.
- 27:57Speaker 2: You cannot beat practical effects for feeling like you're watching
- 28:02Speaker 2: something that's actually grounded in that space.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Absolutely, transports you, Yes, as did my My Owen Wilson
- 28:10Speaker 2: impression transported you to a room where a woman who
- 28:14Speaker 2: cannot do an Owen Wilson impression was occasionally seeing adorable puppies.
- 28:20Speaker 1: What are you talking about? I don't even know if
- 28:23Speaker 1: this is very good.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I obviously don't have a benchmark.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Well, thank you for that direction, Aaron. It was very
- 28:32Speaker 1: entertaining to what Georgira see all those puppies as Owen Wilson.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 28:39Speaker 1: And you can send your muses to Audro with as
- 28:42Speaker 1: many difficult directions as you would like. And you can
- 28:46Speaker 1: do that by sending your muses your favorite fandom memories
- 28:49Speaker 1: and thoughts on any fandom we've ever covered here on
- 28:52Speaker 1: the gate Leapers podcast feed that includes press play things
- 28:56Speaker 1: that includes fandomonium, things.
- 28:58Speaker 2: That includes fandominium.
- 29:00Speaker 1: That includes phantomnium things, that thing we've only ever done once.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yeah, if you loved it, send a muse about it, Yes,
- 29:08Speaker 2: Gateleapers at gmail dot com, send it with any instruction
- 29:12Speaker 2: you like. I think it's pretty clear that it doesn't
- 29:15Speaker 2: have to be something that I can do. Oh god, no,
- 29:18Speaker 2: it's honestly better if it's not it's so much better
- 29:23Speaker 2: if it's something that I cannot actually do. As you've stated,
- 29:28Speaker 2: you had very little for our lily Pad of irrelevancy.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yes, no actual knowledge or research, just a couple of
- 29:35Speaker 1: shout outs. I think as we reflect on the episodes
- 29:38Speaker 1: we released in May, except now we're at that weird
- 29:41Speaker 1: point where it's part way through the month, hasn't finished
- 29:44Speaker 1: yet as the bonus round shifts earlier and earlier in
- 29:48Speaker 1: the month. So I guess just the last two times
- 29:50Speaker 1: we would have released Pandemonium, it was the fiber Arts
- 29:54Speaker 1: episode right at the beginning of the month, and I
- 29:57Speaker 1: would like to shout out Jen Reign of this podcast
- 30:00Speaker 1: feed for putting that episode together. It wouldn't have happened
- 30:05Speaker 1: without her. She produced the hell out of it and
- 30:07Speaker 1: it was such a good episode. Yeah, it's one of
- 30:10Speaker 1: my favorites. It's one of the most unique episodes we've
- 30:13Speaker 1: ever done, and I hope it opens the door to
- 30:16Speaker 1: more hobbies, yeah, or pastimes as being the themes of
- 30:20Speaker 1: an episode.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Because people are as invested in those as their fandoms
- 30:26Speaker 2: totally like and so many of those things go hand
- 30:29Speaker 2: in hand.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I mean, as we saw with Kate on the on
- 30:32Speaker 1: the panel of Red Door five as Dutio. That's that's
- 30:35Speaker 1: fandom and fiber arts colliding.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, because there's the thing of watching your favorite
- 30:41Speaker 2: movies and TV shows while doing your knitting projects and
- 30:45Speaker 2: your fiber arts project, and then to have someone on
- 30:49Speaker 2: who embraces that to the level of fandom themed some
- 30:53Speaker 2: of the most beautifully dyed yarn. Yeah, I've seen in
- 30:56Speaker 2: my freaking life.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So thank you, Jen. That episode happened of you, and
- 31:00Speaker 1: so many episodes each year happen because of you.
- 31:03Speaker 2: You're wonderful.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You support us so much and contribute so much to
- 31:07Speaker 1: this podcast. We love you.
- 31:08Speaker 2: And if you want to follow Jen on Instagram and
- 31:12Speaker 2: take a look at the things that she makes, which
- 31:14Speaker 2: is gorgeous. She makes tons of great fiber arts things
- 31:18Speaker 2: in pattern tests. You can check her out at half
- 31:21Speaker 2: double docent on Instagram.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Yes, and then we didn't release a Fandomonium last week,
- 31:28Speaker 1: but we will next week. I think that's how this
- 31:31Speaker 1: is working, so there will still be a second Fandemonium
- 31:35Speaker 1: in the month of May. But last week we instead
- 31:38Speaker 1: released an actual play of the game Imminent Peril that
- 31:42Speaker 1: Ben Robinson of this podcast helped organize and produce that
- 31:46Speaker 1: episode and pull that together. So thank you so much,
- 31:49Speaker 1: Ben for that. We had an absolute blast playing this game.
- 31:51Speaker 1: It was so much fun. I hope you enjoyed it
- 31:53Speaker 1: as well.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yes, I am a big sucker for games that are
- 31:58Speaker 2: easy to explain but have a ton of replayability. Yes,
- 32:03Speaker 2: and so this is Imminent Peril is one of those
- 32:06Speaker 2: games where it's pretty easy to explain how you play.
- 32:10Speaker 2: We learned as we were starting up and the amount
- 32:14Speaker 2: of combinations, and it's limited. It's limited only by your creativity.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And I say it in that voice because people say
- 32:21Speaker 2: that when they don't People say that a lot and
- 32:24Speaker 2: they don't fucking mean it. I do mean it. This
- 32:29Speaker 2: game is only limited by your creativity, truly, in the
- 32:34Speaker 2: creativity of your friends putting each other in imminent peril.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yes, it's hilarious. It's a lot of fun. I can't
- 32:43Speaker 1: wait to play it again. Kickstarter is ongoing. Thank you
- 32:46Speaker 1: to everyone at cit Harder for allowing us to play
- 32:51Speaker 1: that game. Have a little preview of it, and yeah
- 32:53Speaker 1: you can if you like the sound of that game.
- 32:56Speaker 1: I'll put another link to the Kickstarter for Imminent Peril
- 32:59Speaker 1: in the show notes. Check it out.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Now onto Matt versus Adra.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Yes, the comeback is real. The comeback is happening.
- 33:10Speaker 2: We'll find out. We'll find out. I'm not gonna get
- 33:13Speaker 2: intimidated by your last victory.
- 33:17Speaker 1: By the narrative of momentum. That's what would be intimidating here.
- 33:22Speaker 2: No, I'm not gonna let that happen. Okay, I'm gonna
- 33:25Speaker 2: stay cool, calm, collected.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 33:29Speaker 2: You're just gonna get cocky. Yeah, okay, okay, this works
- 33:34Speaker 2: in my favor. Now I need to not get cocky.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I need to stay calm, cool and collected. All right,
- 33:39Speaker 2: that's why this works. We're opposites. Matt versus Udra. Watch
- 33:42Speaker 2: out for my villain Era.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Don't mess with the games Master, Captain power up. I'm
- 33:48Speaker 1: going to score all the points.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Passing knowledge was enough.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to your doom.
- 33:55Speaker 2: I just hope we have a lot of fun.
- 33:57Speaker 1: And ignore this sentence. If you're a goddamn Liza, you're
- 34:01Speaker 1: going down.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I want to fight, and now comes the time for
- 34:09Speaker 2: Matt versus Oudra.
- 34:11Speaker 1: The comeback is reel.
- 34:12Speaker 2: The comeback is I'm not going to deny that there
- 34:17Speaker 2: is a spark.
- 34:18Speaker 1: It's on. It's happening.
- 34:19Speaker 2: I'm not going to deny that you did win last month.
- 34:23Speaker 2: That I'm not going to take away from you.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Good because that's the truth.
- 34:27Speaker 2: But we'll find out what happens this month. We've got
- 34:32Speaker 2: Aaron Randolph of bfy tw. Here what you got for us?
- 34:36Speaker 3: Hello? Okay, so I have a I'd like to call
- 34:41Speaker 3: it a bfy tw original, but that's not quite true.
- 34:46Speaker 3: This is the List of the List is a game
- 34:49Speaker 3: show we have run many times on BFYTW. It's one
- 34:53Speaker 3: of our favorites because it's easy to play over even
- 34:56Speaker 3: the Internet. We're having guests directly in the room either way,
- 34:59Speaker 3: and there's know like time limits or anything like that,
- 35:02Speaker 3: so it's it's all very simple and great for a podcast.
- 35:05Speaker 3: And it's just a simple question how many items on
- 35:08Speaker 3: a list of ten can you guess? That's it. That's
- 35:12Speaker 3: the format, That's all there is to it it Now.
- 35:15Speaker 3: On the show, there is usually there's five players playing
- 35:19Speaker 3: together cooperatively. They're all working together to try and win
- 35:23Speaker 3: as much money as they can for whatever charity they've
- 35:26Speaker 3: all decided to go with. In this case, I have
- 35:29Speaker 3: modified it to play one v one So.
- 35:34Speaker 2: God the latest list drop?
- 35:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're gonna have even more fun with this
- 35:39Speaker 3: because how it's gonna work is I'm gonna give you, guys,
- 35:42Speaker 3: the three categories that you can choose from, and the
- 35:45Speaker 3: two of you, even though you're playing against each other,
- 35:48Speaker 3: you have to agree on which category you'd like the
- 35:51Speaker 3: case because you're each going to tackle the same list.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Once you've picked a category, one of you is gonna
- 36:00Speaker 3: volunteer to leave the room and go somewhere else, and
- 36:04Speaker 3: the other player will play the list on their own
- 36:07Speaker 3: and do as well as they can. They're gonna play
- 36:10Speaker 3: with the same rules as the game. Just keep giving answers.
- 36:14Speaker 3: You don't have any helps like you would on the show.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You don't have an SOS, you don't have the captains deny,
- 36:20Speaker 3: but you do have one free mistake so you can make.
- 36:23Speaker 3: You can get one wrong and keep going, but if
- 36:26Speaker 3: you get a second one wrong, your score automatically becomes
- 36:30Speaker 3: zero and your turn is over. Okay, so we're going
- 36:35Speaker 3: to even if it happens immediately, we're going to spend
- 36:38Speaker 3: a bunch of time waiting before we call the other
- 36:41Speaker 3: person in, so they will have no idea how well
- 36:44Speaker 3: the other person did, and then they will take a turn,
- 36:47Speaker 3: and again same rules apply. Do as well as you can.
- 36:50Speaker 3: But if you get two wrong answers, you go to
- 36:53Speaker 3: zero and could conceivably lose or tie. You'll have no idea.
- 36:58Speaker 1: So it's up to die.
- 36:59Speaker 3: It's up to each player when they will decide to stop. So, yes,
- 37:04Speaker 3: that having been said, you guys need to decide between
- 37:07Speaker 3: these three categories. Would you like Will Smith movies, ice
- 37:13Speaker 3: cream flavors or Shakespeare quotes? Talk it over and decide
- 37:22Speaker 3: between you.
- 37:23Speaker 1: It's probably not gonna be Will Smith.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Movie, probably not gonna be Will Smith movies. But ice
- 37:28Speaker 2: cream flavors and Shakespeare quotes are like two.
- 37:33Speaker 1: It's it's high culture loculture, but both pretty broad. Yes,
- 37:37Speaker 1: depending on how I'm leading bostimple it's ice cream.
- 37:43Speaker 2: I think I'm down for ice cream flavors as well.
- 37:45Speaker 1: It sounds like the most fun.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Definitely, I'll have a good vibe if I if I
- 37:50Speaker 2: get the ice cream flavors wrong. Still, but if I
- 37:52Speaker 2: get Shakespeare quotes wrong, I'll be like, oh, how dare
- 37:56Speaker 2: I the bod shall be so unan zoosed?
- 38:01Speaker 1: What the stupidity lay upon your brow? All right? So
- 38:08Speaker 1: do we have a consensus?
- 38:09Speaker 2: Yes, ice cream flavors.
- 38:11Speaker 3: You're going for ice cream flavors, Okay, which one of
- 38:14Speaker 3: you would like to stay and which one would like
- 38:17Speaker 3: to leave the room? Would either of you like to
- 38:19Speaker 3: volunteer to leave?
- 38:20Speaker 2: I would like to volunteer to leave.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Fat, Okay, So Matt will go first. Audric, go ahead
- 38:26Speaker 3: and take your headphones off and leave the room, and
- 38:29Speaker 3: Matt will call for you when we're ready for you.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Awesome, all right?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Yeah, in a bit.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I love a good isolation booth, such a such a
- 38:39Speaker 1: classic game show gimmick. I love it.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's it's perfect. Okay. I'm going to
- 38:44Speaker 3: give it a couple of seconds before I load up
- 38:46Speaker 3: the list, just to make sure she's clear and far
- 38:49Speaker 3: away and not listening at the door.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I heard.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I heard footsteps going downstairs, So okay, so.
- 38:55Speaker 3: I think we're good. All right in that case, Matt,
- 38:58Speaker 3: let's get started. Here is your list on ice cream flavors.
- 39:03Speaker 3: The ten most popular ice cream flavors in America.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 39:08Speaker 3: To clarify, we're looking for the ten most popular ice
- 39:12Speaker 3: cream flavors in America, according to the International Dairy Foods
- 39:16Speaker 3: Association as of January twenty twenty.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Five, Okay, so this is current, this is this is current,
- 39:23Speaker 1: this is these are the modern flavors. Yes, okay, Well,
- 39:27Speaker 1: before we start guessing some of those modern gen z flavors,
- 39:31Speaker 1: let's go with some big hitters and let's say vanilla vanilla.
- 39:36Speaker 3: I feel like that's a safe bet. Is vanilla on
- 39:40Speaker 3: this list? Yeah? It's number one? Way, well done? All right,
- 39:47Speaker 3: give me another one. All right.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Let's let's go with another big hitter and say chocolate chocolate.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Again. I feel like that's pretty good guarantee. But is
- 39:56Speaker 3: chocolate on this list? Yep, it's number two.
- 40:01Speaker 2: All right.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Let's let's complete that trifector and say strawberry strawberry?
- 40:06Speaker 3: All right? Is strawberry on this list? Yes, but it's
- 40:12Speaker 3: low on the list. It's number eight.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Interesting, Okay, further down there.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Yeah, right, you're doing well, You're up to three.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Okay. This is the now gets a little tough because
- 40:23Speaker 1: now we're in like personal preference territory. There are some
- 40:29Speaker 1: things that I don't know if they're too broad, but
- 40:31Speaker 1: they certainly are flavors. So I'm I guess I'm gonna
- 40:35Speaker 1: say caramel.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Caramel? Is caramel on this list? No, No, Matt, I'm sorry,
- 40:44Speaker 3: caramel is not on this list. Now, okay, that was
- 40:48Speaker 3: your free mistake. So now you have to decide are
- 40:52Speaker 3: you willing to settle for three or are you going
- 40:56Speaker 3: to gamble and try and get more.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I don't think three good enough. I think I'm I'm
- 41:01Speaker 1: gonna have to gamble.
- 41:02Speaker 3: I think the issue with caramel is that it's more
- 41:04Speaker 3: of a topping than a general flavor.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Right, oh yeah, even the I'm the things I'm thinking
- 41:11Speaker 1: of a like bites caramel bites. All right, I'm gonna
- 41:15Speaker 1: if it's with the same flavor, I'm gonna say I
- 41:17Speaker 1: see it. I feel like I see pistachio a lot,
- 41:19Speaker 1: So I'm gonna say pistachio, pistachio.
- 41:21Speaker 3: All right, to stay in the game, to increase your
- 41:24Speaker 3: score to four, or to go out and go down
- 41:29Speaker 3: to zero? Is pistachio on this list? No, I'm sorry,
- 41:37Speaker 3: pistachio is not on this list, which means zero score
- 41:42Speaker 3: is zero?
- 41:43Speaker 1: Ah, night Bath.
- 41:45Speaker 3: That's not great. But there is a chance that auder
- 41:49Speaker 3: could also fail out and you will end in a draw.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Okay, that's what I've got to hope for this mon Yeah.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Now I'm not gonna reveal the rest of the answers
- 41:58Speaker 3: to you just yet. That's want there to be some
- 42:01Speaker 3: tension when order comes back, But we are going to
- 42:04Speaker 3: spend a little amount of time just to make it
- 42:06Speaker 3: so it's possible Oudra might think that you went all
- 42:09Speaker 3: the way.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we've got to keep up the ruse that
- 42:12Speaker 1: I got, like an eight or a nine.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we are going to keep tap dancing for a while.
- 42:16Speaker 1: So yeah, what I will say is that I hope
- 42:19Speaker 1: that all of these remaining answers turn out to be
- 42:23Speaker 1: flavors and not other things that are potential that I
- 42:26Speaker 1: would describe as a topping or anything like that, because
- 42:31Speaker 1: I pivoted hard into what could possibly be conceived as
- 42:33Speaker 1: a flavor, and now I'm thinking everything is everything is
- 42:37Speaker 1: a topping? Right?
- 42:38Speaker 3: Well, you know what I would I would describe pistachio
- 42:41Speaker 3: as a flavor. There is definitely a pistachio ice cream.
- 42:44Speaker 3: I just I just don't think it's as popular as
- 42:47Speaker 3: the remaining ones on this list. But yeah, I don't
- 42:51Speaker 3: know if it's specifically like the half gallons you would
- 42:54Speaker 3: get in a supermarket, or if it's like the kinds
- 42:56Speaker 3: you would get at an ice cream store. How they
- 42:58Speaker 3: measure it.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I don't know, Okay, I was. I was imagining like
- 43:01Speaker 1: an ice cream pola, like getting a getting a cone
- 43:04Speaker 1: from a person.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and there's there's all sorts of wild flavors. The
- 43:10Speaker 3: one near me has like a cotton candy flavor that
- 43:13Speaker 3: I've never seen anywhere else.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Not to hint at anything, but that is definitely not
- 43:18Speaker 3: on this list.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I was thinking of some like like I was thinking
- 43:23Speaker 1: of like things like oreo and stuff. But they all
- 43:25Speaker 1: feel like toppings as opposed to flavors. At least that's
- 43:29Speaker 1: what I'll be arguing at the end when oldra wins.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Yeah, well we'll see. All she has to do is
- 43:35Speaker 3: stop with any score.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 43:38Speaker 3: The thing is, is she gonna think that you've done well?
- 43:40Speaker 3: And is she gonna try to get a very high
- 43:43Speaker 3: score to counter that?
- 43:45Speaker 1: Well, I'm going all the way.
- 43:47Speaker 3: You're gonna have to do your best to keep it
- 43:49Speaker 3: as stum, and I will of course keep my poker
- 43:52Speaker 3: face on as well. But you the listener listening at home,
- 43:54Speaker 3: you know exactly what's happened to you.
- 43:57Speaker 1: You know the disaster that's just happened. You know you
- 43:59Speaker 1: know that Matt only knows the Neapolitan olysis.
- 44:03Speaker 3: You will probably enjoy this as much as we will,
- 44:07Speaker 3: but without the stress of having to pretend like everything
- 44:10Speaker 3: was fantastic. All right. Do you think that's enough time
- 44:14Speaker 3: or should we give it another minute or two?
- 44:17Speaker 1: I think that's just about enough time. By the time
- 44:19Speaker 1: we finish this current bit of patas believable that I
- 44:23Speaker 1: could have made it a good distance. All right, Auldra
- 44:26Speaker 1: is on her way, beautiful out of the booth.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Welcome back from the isolation booth, Audra Stevens said, Hi, okay,
- 44:36Speaker 3: so to be back, we can't tell you how well
- 44:40Speaker 3: Matt did. It is going to be up to you
- 44:41Speaker 3: to decide when you want to stop, all right, Okay,
- 44:45Speaker 3: only the audience listening at home and myself and Matt
- 44:48Speaker 3: know how well that went, and we are not going
- 44:51Speaker 3: to reveal a thing. So Odra, here is your identical
- 44:57Speaker 3: list the ten most popular ice cream flavors in America.
- 45:03Speaker 3: To clarify, we're looking for the ten most popular ice
- 45:07Speaker 3: cream flavors in America, according to the International Dairy Foods
- 45:11Speaker 3: Association as of January twenty twenty five.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Okay, well, I gotta start with vanilla.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Vanilla is vanilla on this list. Yep, it's number one.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Great start, Okay, one down, however, many more to go?
- 45:34Speaker 3: You want?
- 45:35Speaker 2: Let's say chocolate.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Chocolate seems a fair bet. Is chocolate on this list? Yeah,
- 45:44Speaker 3: it's number two, Well.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Done, Okay, Now let's see. I think it'll land in
- 45:50Speaker 2: the top ten. I don't know if it's going to
- 45:52Speaker 2: be three. I don't know if I'm going to hit one,
- 45:54Speaker 2: two three with this. But let's go strawberry strawberry?
- 45:59Speaker 3: All right? Is strawberry on this list? Yeah? Okay, one, two, three,
- 46:07Speaker 3: just like that, But strawberry is obviously not in third.
- 46:11Speaker 3: It is in eighth place.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Let's go Rocky Road, Rocky Road if.
- 46:18Speaker 2: We're thinking big ice cream flavors.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Is Rocky Road on this list?
- 46:26Speaker 2: No?
- 46:27Speaker 3: Sorry, Rocky Road is not on this list. Now that
- 46:32Speaker 3: is your free mistake. You are still in the game. However,
- 46:36Speaker 3: if you give me one more wrong answer, your score
- 46:40Speaker 3: resets to zero. You currently have three, so you need
- 46:46Speaker 3: to decide do you think you have beaten met with
- 46:50Speaker 3: three or do you want to risk it and try
- 46:52Speaker 3: and get more.
- 46:53Speaker 2: I don't think I've beaten him with three, so I've
- 46:57Speaker 2: got to try at least one more.
- 46:59Speaker 3: All right? Where would you like to go next.
- 47:02Speaker 2: I'm gonna go Neapolitan.
- 47:05Speaker 3: Neapolitan? Is neapolitan on this list?
- 47:12Speaker 2: I thought it one more popular?
- 47:13Speaker 3: Oh no, yes, okay, you have four points and are
- 47:20Speaker 3: still in the game. Do you want to stop here
- 47:23Speaker 3: or do you want to keep trying to increase your score?
- 47:27Speaker 2: I just remembered that cookie dough ice cream exists, so
- 47:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna lock in cookie dough and yep, that's what
- 47:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna do, and I'm going to hope that that's
- 47:37Speaker 2: one of them.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Is cookie dough on this list for five points or zero?
- 47:45Speaker 2: Five or zero? Yes?
- 47:46Speaker 3: Okay, yes it's chocolate chip cookie dough. But I gave
- 47:51Speaker 3: it to you because it's essentially the same thing.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Thank you, I say, yep, that's what I met.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Do you have five points? If you give me another
- 48:01Speaker 3: correct answer, you'll go up to six. However, if you
- 48:05Speaker 3: give me a wrong answer, you drop to zero. Do
- 48:08Speaker 3: you think you have beaten Matt?
- 48:11Speaker 2: I don't know if I have beaten Matt. But oh
- 48:16Speaker 2: I just thought of another one that I think might
- 48:19Speaker 2: be big, but staying would be safe. Go big or
- 48:22Speaker 2: go home. If this is a real one, then I'm
- 48:25Speaker 2: stopping after this. I'm going with mint chocolate chip locking
- 48:30Speaker 2: it in all right, If for better or for.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Worse, mint chocolate chip is on this list, you go
- 48:36Speaker 3: up to six points. If it's wrong, you drop to
- 48:41Speaker 3: zero and possibly canned Matt the game? Is it mint
- 48:50Speaker 3: chocolate chip? Is it on this list?
- 48:55Speaker 2: Oh? No?
- 48:56Speaker 3: Oh yes, it's number four.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Oh I didn't think it was going to be that high.
- 49:02Speaker 3: There are four answers left. If you think six is
- 49:07Speaker 3: enough to beat Matt, you can stop now, but otherwise
- 49:11Speaker 3: you're gonna have to give me another correct answer.
- 49:15Speaker 2: I don't know for sure if six is enough to
- 49:18Speaker 2: beat Matt, but I do know that zero will not
- 49:22Speaker 2: beat Matt.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Are you stopping? Is that your final answer?
- 49:26Speaker 2: So I'm gonna stop here.
- 49:28Speaker 3: She's stopping the six and that Candily beats zero, which
- 49:34Speaker 3: means you win the game.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Audra get locked out?
- 49:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I ate a bunch of ice cream and
- 49:41Speaker 1: then sh.
- 49:44Speaker 3: Matt went with what were your two wrong ones? You
- 49:47Speaker 3: said caramel and then you went for pistachio, and then
- 49:52Speaker 3: I said neither of which are on this list.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Unfortunately, by getting caramel wrong, it blocked out anything from
- 49:59Speaker 1: my mind that possibly had any cut, So like mint
- 50:02Speaker 1: chalk chip, was gone, chocolate chip cookie dough was gone.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I just my brain couldn't bring up anything that had
- 50:07Speaker 1: bits in it.
- 50:09Speaker 3: Do either of you have any ideas for what the
- 50:12Speaker 3: remaining four could be? Is it like fudge brownie? Like
- 50:16Speaker 3: like no? No, no fudge squirrel, No fudge brownie.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Could raspberry be up there?
- 50:23Speaker 3: No, Matt, you were oddly close with Oreo Cookies and Cream.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Cookies and cream is number three. Cookies and Cream is
- 50:33Speaker 3: number three on this list, And that just leaves six, seven,
- 50:36Speaker 3: and nine. I would be amazed if you got seven.
- 50:39Speaker 1: But cherry garcia No.
- 50:42Speaker 2: No.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Six and nine are actually fairly popular, so you could
- 50:46Speaker 3: guess them. But it's a matter of whether you think
- 50:50Speaker 3: they're popular or not. No, I'll just go ahead and raisin. Nope,
- 50:55Speaker 3: not raising. Number six is butter pecan, which I think
- 51:01Speaker 3: is my mom's favorite flavor. And number nine is one
- 51:06Speaker 3: that's popular, at least to me recently, is Moose Tracks.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Oh, I've heard that.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Absolutely love Moose Tracks. This is one of my favorites.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Just put tiny peanutur cups and everything. But number seven
- 51:20Speaker 3: was like, I could not believe that was one of
- 51:22Speaker 3: the top ten. Birthday cake A.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Birthday cake ice cream.
- 51:28Speaker 3: I've seen that flavor at ice cream shops and just been.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Like each Yeah, both and better.
- 51:36Speaker 3: How weird would it be to have an actual birthday
- 51:39Speaker 3: cake with a scoop of birthday cake ice cream on
- 51:42Speaker 3: the side?
- 51:42Speaker 2: Oh, because I have had Then again, I have had
- 51:46Speaker 2: cake batter ice cream, and that was pretty solid. It
- 51:50Speaker 2: didn't actually taste like what I would say a cake
- 51:54Speaker 2: tastes like, right, and so it would be like having
- 51:57Speaker 2: a banana runt and then eating a bite of a
- 52:00Speaker 2: actual banana. I almost did a human banana.
- 52:07Speaker 3: Fantastic.
- 52:07Speaker 1: I feel like a human bananas.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Has claimed another victory and extends her lead once again
- 52:18Speaker 3: to be out in front by two man come back. No,
- 52:23Speaker 3: it just needs to get restarted, Matt, that's all. It
- 52:25Speaker 3: means the engine. You've got plenty of time, but that's
- 52:30Speaker 3: gonna be it for this bonus round. Well done, both
- 52:32Speaker 3: of you. I hope you've enjoyed this. If you have
- 52:36Speaker 3: enjoyed Listener, there are several episodes of the list on
- 52:41Speaker 3: bfy tw podcast, which is my podcast, and I'm gonna
- 52:45Speaker 3: not fuck it too much because I'm on another podcast
- 52:48Speaker 3: and that's away.
- 52:49Speaker 2: But I will if you go check out b f
- 52:53Speaker 2: y t W. There are so many phenomenal episodes. There
- 52:58Speaker 2: are so even some mid ones have Matt and I
- 53:01Speaker 2: on them.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Those are among my favorites, including episode two hundred where
- 53:09Speaker 3: the two of you played the list for the first time.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'll link that episode in show notes.
- 53:15Speaker 3: And there's five other episodes of it, a couple of
- 53:19Speaker 3: which are absolutely incredible. I still hawk. I think it's
- 53:22Speaker 3: episode eighty six, which is when we had the Ultra
- 53:26Speaker 3: Hope girls on and they did yes episode, they did
- 53:29Speaker 3: an amazing job. But yeah, we've had fun. We've had
- 53:34Speaker 3: a lot of fun with the list, and I'm just
- 53:35Speaker 3: glad I could share it with you for another one
- 53:37Speaker 3: of these bonus rounds. But that's gonna be it for
- 53:39Speaker 3: this month, and I just got to come up with
- 53:41Speaker 3: something more fun in tantalizing for next month. But until then,
- 53:45Speaker 3: thanks for having me, and I hope you had a blast,
- 53:47Speaker 3: because I sure.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Did, absolutely such a good time.
- 53:50Speaker 3: We had so much fun, all right, thank you, You're welcome,
- 53:54Speaker 3: Bye bye bye.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Apparently I don't know ice cream flavors.
- 54:03Speaker 2: I think my strategy of calm, cool and collected.
- 54:08Speaker 1: We didn't know that would work out in your favor.
- 54:11Speaker 2: No, we did not know to what extent staying cool.
- 54:16Speaker 2: I got too hot, You got too hot. Well all
- 54:18Speaker 2: the ice cream you came in too hot, too cocky,
- 54:22Speaker 2: too too sure of your momentum.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Sure, but that would have been another flavor potentially, I
- 54:29Speaker 1: mean not. I was just like I think so many
- 54:31Speaker 1: of the classics just left my mind.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Hm, the assumption that like this, can't this simply cannot be.
- 54:39Speaker 1: These flavors aren't popular anymore. Forgetting that generations above me
- 54:43Speaker 1: exist and they're the majority of the people who are
- 54:46Speaker 1: buying ice cream at the supermarket.
- 54:48Speaker 2: Gosh, I'm a swing, a swing and a miss, and
- 54:52Speaker 2: I'm so sorry.
