Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguars fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by jenjag.com and fueled by brass tack coffee it is Thursday October 1st can you believe we're already in the month of October out here in Boston right now actually you know rock in the T.O.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Rubin and then after that big Jaguars victory over the Patriots maybe not the best idea but we are out here right now in beautiful Airbnb and Boston is absolutely beautiful city so it's been a fun first.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: 16 or so hours here in Boston, excited to explore for a couple more days, but taking a look at the Jaguars and the Bengals, preview in this football game, it's a big one.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Two teams that obviously have playoff aspirations, two teams that have winning records.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: really potent passing attacks that feature star players.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: So it's an exciting game no doubt about it excited to get into it and really appreciate y'all being here.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Love talking jacks football with you if you enjoy the content please like and subscribe can also hit that hype button and the jacks we haven't talked about it that much um there's statistically
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: across the board like one of the most impressive teams in football through three weeks.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence is top five in passing touchdowns.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Basil Tutan is top two in Miss Tackle's forced and yards after contact and success rate.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: So he's breaking tackles.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: He is,
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, showing good vision and pace and it's not just that he's getting some of these kind of explosive type runs.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not just talking about 10 plus 20 plus yards.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about like making something out of nothing.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's also one of the most consistent.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: You hand them the football.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to keep you on schedule, back singing, and I felt you combine those three things, and then you combine the fact that he also has breakaway speed that hasn't really been put on display yet in the open field, but you have seen it a good bid already in certain situations, just not really...
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: for a 60, 70-yard touchdown run, but I think that that is in the future for racial students, certainly.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to Trevor Lawrence and the passing offense, and there, you know, Trevor Lawrence being top five and passing touchdowns right now, a lot of that has to do with Red Zone success.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar has been one of the most successful teams in the Red Zone this year.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: They're able to find the end zone with the ease that it seems like once they get to the 20-hour line, it's curtains for the defense, unfortunately for some of the jaguars up on it so far.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, they've been dynamite in the red zone, and that's definitely buoyed, Trevor Lawrence has touched down numbers, and obviously he's been playing very good football as well for the jags.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I've got the offensive line, a little bit maligned, I would say after the Denver loss, but they have allowed the second fewest quick pressures, pressures on the quarterback of under two and a half seconds in football.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, they're doing the job as well, the past catchers for the first time in years are not among the league leaders and drops early in the season.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: That has been something where after week one, week two, week three, four, five,
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: always early on in the season, the jag wars are among the league leaders and drops.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Generally speaking throughout the season, last year they cleaned it up a good bit down the stretch and they've kind of carried that into this year which is obviously a welcome sign dropping the football is crippling for the offense.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: discord the 10th most points in football in three weeks despite only scoring 13 in Denver I mean, they've got a game of 34 I've got a game of 35 and then of course the 13 point outing on the road in Denver the Jaguars on the defensive side of the ball they have the number one scoring defense in football 12 points per game they're allowing so far they're tied for third and takeaways which everybody said that wasn't going to be sticky
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: So far, looks pretty sticky, right?
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: For the Jaguars, they have been able to force a lot of turnovers in 2026, something that they did in extremely high level in 2025, and it is something that the Jaguars focus on in practice in the meeting rooms every single day, not only talking about forcing turnovers, but actually teaching techniques to go get these turnovers, punching the football out, right?
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: They're tied in seven or tied four seventh and sacks, which is probably surprising to some, but they're getting after the quarterback a little bit.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're getting pressures.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: It felt a little bit dormant in Denver.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think part of that was they were moving the pocket a good bit, part of that was they were getting the ball out quickly a good bit for the Jaguars.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like the past rush is starting to come alive a little bit and then you look at the run defense only allowing 3.6 yards for carry on the ground.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: among the leagues best.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: So the Jaguars, again, are just statistically one of the more impressive teams in football, top to bottom when you look at the entirety of the whole thing.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: But they're not three enough.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're two and one.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks to a late game collapse in Denver.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: They've beaten the Browns, or shockingly two and one.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be in the Patriots who are slumping on offense with no AJ Brown, Drake may struggling with that offensive infrastructure that is around him, which I think is a trotace.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know Drake may get to a lot of grief and he deserves a good bit of it, but that offense, that infrastructure, is truly horrific.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: went back to 2019, had an incredible game against this bingles past defense, honestly, and the running game for the Steelers was excellent, too.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be in the Texans, and the Bucks, both wins, look less impressive by the day and all honesty.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Texans,
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: They're struggling, they're struggling, I mean they're oh and three, it's not been pretty for them.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: They have just mildly struggled on off and outside of the week one against the bills where they did put up points, but they weren't able to get the job down on the defensive side of the ball.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: So the Texans are kind of a conundrum wrapped in a riddle right now, but neither of these wins feel super impressive and the loss to the Steelers in which again,
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: you just can't do anything to stop their offense.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what to make of the Bengals, really as a team right now, but the Bengals are two and a half point favorites.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: Which doesn't make some sense.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're at home.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Home field advantage is a big deal.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars are a lot better in Jacksonville than they are on the road.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to become road warriors in 2026 and beyond.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Just with the schedule stuff going on
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: And the Bengals have narrowly defeated the Jaguars and their last two meetings that have been really hotly contested games.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: You talk about 2013, I mean Trevor Lawrence goes down and the season kind of goes down with them there.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: And Jake Brownins had to play in both of those games, which was really weird.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's no longer a Cincinnati bingo, I believe he's with the Bucks, but yeah.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is exciting stuff.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Two of the premier, I don't even know if you call him young quarterbacks anymore, but they're two really good quarterbacks in this league.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it makes sense that the Bengals are favored at home.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But you'll look at the Bingo's defense right now.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: The Bingo's deal, we'll talk about their offense, obviously.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: The Bingo's defense feels like the Dexter Lawrence and Boya and Muffa show right now at front DJ Turner really emerged last year as a really good corner in this league.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of that, they've got some issues.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: They've got some big issues.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're struggling to stop the run.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: They're allowing 4.7 yards per carry.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Really not having anybody step up and pass coverage again outside of DJ Turner that that I've been able to see.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it feels like this is a defense.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars are going to be able to move the ball on.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: If the Jaguars can move the ball get into the red zone, they're going to score points.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: They've shown you that so far and it hasn't just been a three week kind of.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Sample size, you go back to last year, you go throughout the entire off season.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: That feels like who the Jaguars are is a team that really can put it on you once they get in the red zone.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the Vingles defense is going to have a tough time stopping the Jaguars offense.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, 4.7 yards per carry.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: The interesting part for the Jack Wars often to my opinion is Dexter Lawrence is a freak show.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: You had a difficult time a couple of weeks ago dealing with a absolute stunt on the interior, Zach Allen.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: They were moving him around all over the place and rushing the passer, but Dexter Lawrence and Josh Zach Allen are not the same type of player.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: Dexter Lawrence is more of a nose tackle.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big physical.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is a great, great athlete in his size, making him a stick about it.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the quick interior russure that it's that Alan is.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's a different type of matchup.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's a matchup to Jaguars have shown that they can deal with a little bit better.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying specifically against texture Lawrence, but they've gone against some of these bigger, earlier all pro-type defensive tackles and had a little bit more success than they have against the super quick guys.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: Does he wreck the game?
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Do they have a good game plan for him?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think Boy Amoff is doing a lot for them up front as well.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: But communication is going to be interesting.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Pre-snap communication is critical for this Liam Cohen offense.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: The Bengals, their defense isn't going to be as complex as what you saw from Denver.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: They probably won't have as many wrinkles as what Denver threw at the Jag wars, but you still need good pre-snap communication when you're on the road in a hostile environment because you're trying to get into the best play call that you can or they able to do that.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a big deal.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a, have a big impact in this game.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Cincinnati was House of Horrors for Brian Thomas Jr. Last year, just the worst game of his career, I think, by a country mile, can he exercise those demons, will the Jaguars?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: even give him the chance to do so.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be pretty interesting in my opinion.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then on the other side of the ball, obviously, Joe Burrow, Jim Marchace, Teahagans, Chase Brown, Mike Giuseppe, weapons all over the place.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: You have, you know, a marius men's looking like an absolute free show at Wright Tackle.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: But you also have a left side of the offensive line.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Let's struggle a little bit in past Pro so far.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: a running game that's not really gotten going in a big way.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the Bengals, they do like to run a lot of stuff from the gun.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar struggle, you know, relatively speaking.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: They struggle against shotgun runs as compared to undercenter runs.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: They don't see as many of them, so if you're more prepared for that, maybe you're more ready for it.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the Jaguars defense, they have had a kryptonite under underneath any camp in Helae.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's opposing wide receiver ones, and the Bengals not only do they have Jamar Chase, they also have T-Higgins.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: These are two guys that can wreck this game for the Jaguars if they're not able to contest at the catch point, if they're not able to play sticky and coverage, if they're not able to make it difficult for them.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: If they just give it to them the way they did last year,
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: It could be curtains.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: It could also just be a shoot up.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's absolutely on the table.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of, you know, stopping a opposing wide receiver ones, it feels like the Jaguars are one of the most complete groups in the NFL.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: They stop the run.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: They've been getting sacks this year.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: Number one scoring defense and football, allowing only 12 points per game.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's a fascinating matchup.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think it could be a shootout.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I would be very surprised if it's a low scoring affair, if the Jaguar's are not able to put up points against the Bengals.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what you think in the comment section below.
