- 3:39Speaker 1: Right now, We're going to jump out to the players
- 3:41Speaker 1: Fun Center phone line and visit with author John Bacon.
- 3:45Speaker 1: His book out next week is called The Gales of November,
- 3:49Speaker 1: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
- 3:53Speaker 5: John.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I don't want to oversell this, but I've told my
- 3:56Speaker 1: listeners this is one of the best books I've ever read.
- 4:00Speaker 9: Hey over sell away chip go Nuts.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Wait, let's let's start with just the culture, the freight
- 4:10Speaker 1: along the Great Lakes and the culture that existed then
- 4:15Speaker 1: and does some extent still exists.
- 4:18Speaker 9: That's correct. Look, I'm from Annibra, Michigan. We spent our
- 4:21Speaker 9: summers on Lake Michigan. I've I have swam in all
- 4:24Speaker 9: these lakes, sailed them, motor boateed them, et cetera. And
- 4:27Speaker 9: I didn't know anything. So it turns out the culture
- 4:31Speaker 9: these things are the greatest, the biggest lakes in the
- 4:33Speaker 9: world combined. They're bigger than all of New England plus
- 4:37Speaker 9: the state of New York. People have no sense of
- 4:39Speaker 9: just how gigantic these things are. You can't see across them. Yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 9: they're that big. They like oceans. So when you're on there,
- 4:46Speaker 9: of course the Great Lake shipping. Pretty much all your
- 4:49Speaker 9: stuff comes from these Great Lakes freighters. The cement in
- 4:53Speaker 9: your basement, the steel in your car, the cereal on
- 4:56Speaker 9: your table, it's all from the Great Lakes and off
- 4:58Speaker 9: of these ships. So the colle sure is an intense one.
- 5:01Speaker 9: One I knew almost nothing about. Is I said, they're
- 5:04Speaker 9: about three hundred freighters, and back in those days, who
- 5:06Speaker 9: did this work? Now it's about one hundred and there
- 5:09Speaker 9: for about nine thousand guys. You do it, and they're
- 5:11Speaker 9: on these ships nine months out of the year. So
- 5:13Speaker 9: I was wondering, as a friend of mine said, we
- 5:16Speaker 9: know the farmer, the factory worker, the minor, but no
- 5:19Speaker 9: one knows the sailor. And I thought, why is that?
- 5:21Speaker 9: Because they're never home. You couldn't meet them.
- 5:25Speaker 5: This ship, the Edmund Fitzgerald.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Is it fair to compare it to the Titanic in
- 5:34Speaker 1: its day and that it was unsinkable?
- 5:36Speaker 5: It was the best of the best.
- 5:39Speaker 9: It is completely fair. And that's another thing that I
- 5:42Speaker 9: didn't know. Shame on me as I say, ship, is
- 5:45Speaker 9: that this ship really was all that. And you know,
- 5:48Speaker 9: we're both football guys. Oftentimes you dig back into you
- 5:51Speaker 9: know the Four Horsemen. Well you read about the four Horsemen.
- 5:54Speaker 9: He realized they won that game thirteen to nine. That's
- 5:56Speaker 9: not an apocalypse. That's a couple of field goals. So
- 6:00Speaker 9: it's not always that way. In this case, the Fifth
- 6:03Speaker 9: really was all that. It was the longest ship in
- 6:06Speaker 9: the Great Lakes, the widest, could carry the most cargo.
- 6:10Speaker 9: Is one of the fastest, has set all the records
- 6:12Speaker 9: for cargo year in, year out, again and again and again.
- 6:16Speaker 9: And it was also the nicest and most famous. It
- 6:19Speaker 9: was vip quarters, the best food in the Great Lakes,
- 6:22Speaker 9: the best crew, the best captain, and when they're going
- 6:25Speaker 9: past some of the inlets like the Sioux Locks or
- 6:27Speaker 9: the Detroit River, crowds would wait for them a day
- 6:30Speaker 9: in advance. Sheer the ship on this ship really was
- 6:33Speaker 9: all that.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Tell our listeners what taconite is.
- 6:37Speaker 9: Ah, I've got some in a little jar on my
- 6:40Speaker 9: desk right now, and I didn't know that either beforehand.
- 6:43Speaker 9: So taconite. If you think about how fracking has restored
- 6:48Speaker 9: drilling in America for petroleum, all the easy wells have
- 6:52Speaker 9: been taken. So what do you do I have to
- 6:53Speaker 9: do fracking well? After World War Two, all the easy
- 6:56Speaker 9: iron ore had been taken out of northern Minnesota and
- 7:00Speaker 9: northern Wisconsin and the upper Peninsula of Michigan. And here's
- 7:03Speaker 9: a fun fact for you. Those miners, by the way,
- 7:05Speaker 9: lived in caves in the winter. Their nicknames were the
- 7:08Speaker 9: Gophers in Minnesota and the Badgers in Wisconsin. Football fans,
- 7:13Speaker 9: those mascots come from miners not from animals, so how
- 7:16Speaker 9: about that one. But anyway, so after World War two,
- 7:19Speaker 9: professor up there in Minnesota figured out how to take
- 7:22Speaker 9: this refuse this pac andite the throwaway stuff and turn
- 7:26Speaker 9: it into these pellets in my hand good radio hunh yes.
- 7:31Speaker 9: But they're about marble sized. And they put about five
- 7:35Speaker 9: hundred million of these things, twenty six thousand tons on
- 7:38Speaker 9: one of these ships. And these pebbles basically cocoa puffs
- 7:42Speaker 9: is what they look like. They pile onto the ship
- 7:46Speaker 9: and they get them off at Ford Motor Company and
- 7:48Speaker 9: Dearborn right off the De Tred River. They smelt them.
- 7:51Speaker 9: They melt them down right then and there, and those
- 7:53Speaker 9: who have become a car by the end of the day.
- 7:56Speaker 9: So and on one of these ships, on the Fitzgerald,
- 7:59Speaker 9: they hold enough attackonite to build a seven thousand cars
- 8:04Speaker 9: per cargo load. And they did this fifty times a year.
- 8:07Speaker 9: That's one ship. So that's where your car comes from.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Fifty eight million pounds? Did I get that right?
- 8:14Speaker 9: I know you can't believe it, but it's true. It's
- 8:17Speaker 9: the equivalent of four thousand adult elephants on one ship
- 8:20Speaker 9: every trip, which is once per week.
- 8:23Speaker 5: And the laws and they were a little bit loose.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Maybe the Edmund Fitzgerald probably put more taconite in the
- 8:38Speaker 1: holes of that ship than probably they should have.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Is that fair to say?
- 8:43Speaker 9: That is more than fair to say, Chip, I love
- 8:44Speaker 9: your show, but I love it for football. Of course,
- 8:48Speaker 9: my man, your listeners better know that you've done your
- 8:51Speaker 9: homework here. You do your homework, well done, exactly right.
- 8:54Speaker 9: Something called the Plimsaw line from Great Britain in the
- 8:58Speaker 9: eighteen fifties and sixties. The line painted on a ship,
- 9:01Speaker 9: but you're not allowed to have that go beneath the
- 9:04Speaker 9: water line, so you lower your ship up. If you
- 9:07Speaker 9: go belong with that line, insurance is not going to
- 9:09Speaker 9: cover you. But everyone in the Great Lakes cheated in
- 9:11Speaker 9: that line. I got a whole chapter called cheating the
- 9:13Speaker 9: plimp cell line. Yeah, how you hose down the deck
- 9:17Speaker 9: to cool it down, which raises the ship amazingly in
- 9:21Speaker 9: the middle. You dump the potable water, there's stuff you're
- 9:24Speaker 9: drinking to raise the ship. All kinds of ways to
- 9:27Speaker 9: cheat this thing. And then the government itself gave you
- 9:30Speaker 9: out of nowhere three and a half more feet of
- 9:33Speaker 9: what's called freeboard, which means you're allowed to sink in
- 9:36Speaker 9: the water three and a half more feet in the
- 9:39Speaker 9: late sixties thirty seventies, right before this accident. So a
- 9:42Speaker 9: ship not built for this is now taking on much
- 9:45Speaker 9: more than it should.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about the captain, Ernest mcsorly.
- 9:51Speaker 1: How would describe him as you did in your book?
- 9:54Speaker 9: Sure he was the short answer. He's the best captain
- 9:57Speaker 9: on the Great Lakes, flat out. And his competitors told
- 10:01Speaker 9: me that. His former crew told me that that was
- 10:03Speaker 9: his reputation. The best in the rough weather, the best
- 10:07Speaker 9: pilot on the Great Lakes, they said he could do.
- 10:10Speaker 9: These things are seven hundred and twenty nine feet long.
- 10:13Speaker 9: Think about that for a second. That's a seventy three
- 10:15Speaker 9: story building on its side. It's the biggest build in
- 10:17Speaker 9: the state of Michigan. The Runissance center.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Outside two and a half football fields, two and a.
- 10:22Speaker 9: Football fields, and it's only seventy five feet wide, so
- 10:25Speaker 9: two and at football fields and not even as wide
- 10:29Speaker 9: as a baseball pass wide. Crazy, So it's it's a
- 10:34Speaker 9: crazy design. But anyway, this guy with two ships on
- 10:37Speaker 9: either side of a gigantic dock that goes half a mile,
- 10:41Speaker 9: he could land that thing without bumping into either ship
- 10:44Speaker 9: five feet gap on either side, as one guy said,
- 10:47Speaker 9: as though he's parking his forward f one fifty in
- 10:50Speaker 9: the parking lot. He was that good. So he was
- 10:53Speaker 9: the best in the lakes. Also the most revered captain.
- 10:57Speaker 9: His crew loved him. He's a good guy, and each
- 10:59Speaker 9: time he was promoted to another ship, his crew very
- 11:02Speaker 9: happily came with him.
- 11:04Speaker 1: All right, So you describe in great detail the weather
- 11:11Speaker 1: on the Great Lakes and on Superior, and the day
- 11:14Speaker 1: this ship left was a bluebird day?
- 11:17Speaker 5: Was it not? Seventy degrees?
- 11:19Speaker 9: Exactly right? And trust me, you're in Texas, I believe correct. Yes,
- 11:23Speaker 9: So all right, seventy degrees in Texas. You know you
- 11:26Speaker 9: call that what November December exact degrees in Duluth, Minnesota
- 11:30Speaker 9: is strange. So, yeah, that is at the very top
- 11:33Speaker 9: of the United States. It's the western point of Lake Superior,
- 11:38Speaker 9: which is so cold no one swims in it ever
- 11:41Speaker 9: year round. It's just too cold for that. So seventy
- 11:43Speaker 9: degrees sounds great. But here's the bad news. The longer
- 11:47Speaker 9: winter takes to arrive in the Great Lakes, the angrier
- 11:51Speaker 9: it arrives. It's like a damn breaking. So it's a
- 11:54Speaker 9: beautiful day on Sunday, seventy degrees. It turns nasty fast.
- 11:58Speaker 9: There are two storms coming in one the Alberta Clipper
- 12:01Speaker 9: from Edmonton and Calgary. Hockey Town's the course that's bringing cold,
- 12:06Speaker 9: dry air across the plains. That's not unusual this time
- 12:10Speaker 9: of year. What is unusual from where you are the
- 12:13Speaker 9: southwest United States, from California across Arizona to Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa.
- 12:19Speaker 9: A hot, wet storm equally strong. And these two storm
- 12:24Speaker 9: systems are gonna collide right over Lake Superior. In fact,
- 12:27Speaker 9: I'm going to collide right in front of what's called
- 12:29Speaker 9: Whitefish Bay, this little pocket at the end of the
- 12:32Speaker 9: eastern end of Superior. As the song goes, that's the
- 12:36Speaker 9: ship is heading, and these two storms set up shop.
- 12:39Speaker 9: We've got Catcher Guardian.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Home plate and until.
- 12:44Speaker 5: The storms arrive.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I want people to know that the weather and the
- 12:51Speaker 1: National Weather Service and all of these things they weren't
- 12:55Speaker 1: quite what they are today, were.
- 12:57Speaker 9: They Your phone has more power than they had fifty
- 13:02Speaker 9: years ago, and part of that was technology, but part
- 13:05Speaker 9: of that was simply complacency on both the National Weather
- 13:08Speaker 9: Services part as well as the captain's part. So two
- 13:11Speaker 9: things have improved dramatically since then. Forecasting ability and communicating
- 13:15Speaker 9: that with the captains did not exist then. So these
- 13:18Speaker 9: captains knew very little of this storm. They knew the
- 13:21Speaker 9: Alberta Clipper was coming down, They did not know about
- 13:23Speaker 9: the southwestern storm. Only at the last minute they decided
- 13:26Speaker 9: to go the safe way, the northern route, the longer way,
- 13:30Speaker 9: hugging the shore of Lake Superior through Canada, and that
- 13:35Speaker 9: safety measure Unfortunately ship. It's kind of tragic.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Ye.
- 13:38Speaker 9: This captain is known for going go go go pedals
- 13:41Speaker 9: in the metal. He never turned around in storms, he
- 13:44Speaker 9: never sought shelter. This time he finally takes the safe route,
- 13:47Speaker 9: which he doesn't know as well. A few problems there. One,
- 13:51Speaker 9: you just gave the storm fourteen more hours to beat
- 13:54Speaker 9: you to Whitefish Point, as I said home Plate, so
- 13:57Speaker 9: didn't know that. The second thing is now he's not trained.
- 14:00Speaker 9: Water that he does not know nearly as well, including
- 14:03Speaker 9: this little speck of an island called Cariboo Island. It's
- 14:06Speaker 9: one mile by three miles. It's in the middle of
- 14:08Speaker 9: a lake that is thirteen hundred feet deep, and in
- 14:12Speaker 9: front of that island is what's called six fathoms shoal.
- 14:16Speaker 9: A fathom is six feet. Six fathoms is therefore thirty
- 14:19Speaker 9: six feet. But this thing is only eleven feet deep
- 14:21Speaker 9: in certain places. That's no deeper than your backyard pool
- 14:24Speaker 9: at that point. And this thing already has twenty nine
- 14:27Speaker 9: feet underwater on a good day, and this is not
- 14:30Speaker 9: a good day. Thirty forty fifty foot waves, one hundred
- 14:34Speaker 9: mile per hour winds that knock over trailer parks and
- 14:37Speaker 9: cars and so on, and he's walking into all that.
- 14:40Speaker 9: He ended up in the exact wrong place at the
- 14:43Speaker 9: exact wrong time.
- 14:44Speaker 1: This There had been a similar storm years before, correct,
- 14:49Speaker 1: But this is one of those every fifty to one
- 14:53Speaker 1: hundred year kind of storms that he sailed into.
- 14:57Speaker 9: Exactly right, Chip and again, my man, And you're passing
- 15:00Speaker 9: the quit is left and right, So cheap it up.
- 15:04Speaker 9: When they we'll talk football, well you'll show off there
- 15:07Speaker 9: you're nailing this stuff. The Storm of the Century was
- 15:10Speaker 9: nineteen thirteen on four of the five lakes. Twenty ships
- 15:14Speaker 9: were lost, around three hundred men on the Great Lakes Miserable.
- 15:18Speaker 9: But that Storm of the Century did not last from
- 15:20Speaker 9: the century only sixty two more years. This storm was
- 15:24Speaker 9: the worst storm of the century November tenth, nineteen seventy five.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And why is it, John, tell our listeners, why these
- 15:33Speaker 1: storms on this lake and on the Great Lakes are
- 15:38Speaker 1: worse than the storms that we see the crab catchers
- 15:43Speaker 1: fighting out of Russia in Saltwater.
- 15:47Speaker 9: Man. Yet one more thing, Chip, I did not know
- 15:51Speaker 9: that the Great Lakes, according to commercial sailors around these
- 15:54Speaker 9: big ships all the time. John Hayes did twenty three
- 15:58Speaker 9: years on the Great Lakes. In twelve on the Atlantic.
- 16:00Speaker 9: I talked about a dozen guys who sailed in both
- 16:03Speaker 9: the Atlantic and the Great Lakes, and they said, it's
- 16:07Speaker 9: not even close. The Great Lakes are far more dangerous.
- 16:10Speaker 9: And anyone who's done both will tell you that, like
- 16:12Speaker 9: that's news to me. And here's why. Salt water weighs
- 16:16Speaker 9: down the waves, so instead of being pointy, they're smooth
- 16:18Speaker 9: on top, they're spread out. They come half as fast
- 16:23Speaker 9: as the Great Lakes waves, and they're opping from a
- 16:26Speaker 9: storm a thousand miles away, even an earthquake a thousand
- 16:29Speaker 9: miles away. Great Lakes storms are right above you, including
- 16:33Speaker 9: this one, so their effect is immediate and intense. The
- 16:36Speaker 9: fresh water waves are pointy at the top, not like
- 16:39Speaker 9: roller coasters, like mountain ranges. And they're also twice as
- 16:42Speaker 9: close together, so instead of coming every ten or sixteen seconds,
- 16:46Speaker 9: they come forward to eight seconds, which is disastrous because
- 16:50Speaker 9: now you've got your bow in one end of a
- 16:53Speaker 9: thirty foot wave and nothing in the middle, and then
- 16:56Speaker 9: a different wave, a second wave, has got your stern
- 16:59Speaker 9: lifted feet in between. You have four thousand elephants of taconite.
- 17:04Speaker 9: That means your ship is going to crack but nothing
- 17:06Speaker 9: supporting it, and that happens all the time.
- 17:08Speaker 1: So would we say thirty five to fifty foot waves?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Some people will go, well, you know, people on the
- 17:17Speaker 1: water tend to exaggerate. You think that these waves were
- 17:22Speaker 1: exactly that high and in some cases maybe even higher.
- 17:25Speaker 1: From everybody you've talked to and researched, that was.
- 17:29Speaker 9: A central question, Chip And by the way, roupily short interview,
- 17:33Speaker 9: you're nailing all the high points, so kudos on that.
- 17:37Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 17:38Speaker 2: That.
- 17:38Speaker 9: My first question was, well, first of all, who the
- 17:40Speaker 9: hell is measuring these things? With the tape message? Yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 9: how do you measure a wave? Second of aut who
- 17:44Speaker 9: believes any of this stuff? I mean, you know, who
- 17:47Speaker 9: can say exactly. Well, turns out they've done studies on
- 17:50Speaker 9: this stuff, and they've discovered that unofficial sailors, amateur sailors
- 17:57Speaker 9: and small boats exaggerate the waves and stay shows that
- 18:00Speaker 9: experienced sailors on freighters and big ships underestimate the waves.
- 18:05Speaker 9: And then we've got scientists at Michigan Tech University and
- 18:08Speaker 9: the University of Michigan with buoys out there measuring this stuff.
- 18:11Speaker 9: And now we have computer models and so on thirty,
- 18:14Speaker 9: forty and fifty foot waves they definitely faced that night.
- 18:17Speaker 9: We can prove that with technology and a fifty foot
- 18:21Speaker 9: wave hitting the shit with only ten feet above water,
- 18:24Speaker 9: that's a problem. It's not the splashy whitewater. This was
- 18:28Speaker 9: called greenwater. That means you are underwater and you hope
- 18:32Speaker 9: the ship bobs out each time every fort to eight
- 18:35Speaker 9: seconds it keeps on coming up. But eventually it didn't.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And when we say this stuff came up quickly, I
- 18:41Speaker 1: mean we're talking immediate, almost correct, and it just got
- 18:45Speaker 1: worse exactly.
- 18:47Speaker 9: In fact, one hour away was the Arthur Anderson that
- 18:50Speaker 9: ship I've been on, actually traveled on. It was one
- 18:52Speaker 9: hour away, about ten fifteen miles communicating the whole time,
- 18:57Speaker 9: it was seen different weather than the Fitzgerald was just
- 19:00Speaker 9: being fifteen miles away. So again, the Fitzgerald was in
- 19:03Speaker 9: the wrong place the wrong time more than any other
- 19:05Speaker 9: ship that night.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And mcsurely being the captain, and I think it was
- 19:11Speaker 1: Captain Bernie Cooper on the on the Anderson who was
- 19:14Speaker 1: following him when he slowed down. When McSorley slowed down
- 19:20Speaker 1: the Edmund Fitzgerald in order for that ship to catch up,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I think the captain knew there was something wrong going
- 19:28Speaker 1: on on the Edmund Fitzgerald for that to happen.
- 19:30Speaker 9: Yes, exactly right, Chip. Look, these nautical captains are kind
- 19:35Speaker 9: of like airline pilots, and we're used to that. Yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 9: no matter how much your plane is bouncing around, what
- 19:39Speaker 9: does the guy say he gets on there with his
- 19:42Speaker 9: slow Southern drowses, ladies and gentlemen, we'll have a little
- 19:45Speaker 9: turbulence for the next half an hour or so. That's
- 19:48Speaker 9: what these guys are like. And in fact they're more
- 19:50Speaker 9: so like that because they don't want to put anything
- 19:53Speaker 9: on the radio to give their competition information that helps
- 19:57Speaker 9: them get to the port for they do and they can
- 20:01Speaker 9: unload for us. They're very competitive like football coaches basically,
- 20:05Speaker 9: so he's not putting much out there. But even he's
- 20:07Speaker 9: got to admit in two phone calls to transmissions to
- 20:11Speaker 9: the Arthur Anderson that his fence railing is down, his
- 20:15Speaker 9: vent covers are off, some water's coming in there. Now
- 20:17Speaker 9: he's got a list, which means is leaning to the
- 20:20Speaker 9: right heavily starboard side. At first, it's a passing concern.
- 20:23Speaker 9: Two hours later is the first thing that he mentions.
- 20:26Speaker 9: That means that water is getting into your ship and
- 20:29Speaker 9: tilting it to the right four to seven degrees. That's
- 20:32Speaker 9: bad news.
- 20:32Speaker 1: As good as McSorley was. You write about the possibility
- 20:36Speaker 1: of fatigue. He had been up a long time, and
- 20:39Speaker 1: by the time this storm got bad, he's in the
- 20:41Speaker 1: middle of it. He doesn't know where he is, he's
- 20:44Speaker 1: turned around, the waves are crashing. He ends up, as
- 20:48Speaker 1: you've mentioned, probably along this sixth fathom shoal, because one
- 20:52Speaker 1: of the divers, did he not discovered maroon paint from
- 20:55Speaker 1: the ship at the bottom of that shoal?
- 20:58Speaker 11: Dead right?
- 20:59Speaker 9: Yes?
- 21:00Speaker 2: You.
- 21:00Speaker 9: First of all, he's not slept in thirty six hours,
- 21:02Speaker 9: because captains don't in these situations. Second thing is it's
- 21:06Speaker 9: called motion fatigue. The Navy studies this, and it's about
- 21:09Speaker 9: the same as being drunk. No matter how experienced you are.
- 21:12Speaker 9: If you're on a roller coaster for a day and
- 21:14Speaker 9: a half, your brain's a little loopy. You can't help it.
- 21:17Speaker 9: And then you've got these old charts. They call them
- 21:20Speaker 9: map We call them maps, they call them charts. He
- 21:22Speaker 9: might have used the wrong chart at the wrong time,
- 21:24Speaker 9: which sent him directly over six fathom shoal Anderson thought
- 21:27Speaker 9: he did go over that Showal probably hit. If you hit,
- 21:30Speaker 9: that's where the water came from. And now you've got
- 21:33Speaker 9: all knt of problems. And then you also mentioned another
- 21:36Speaker 9: safety measure he took, which might have been the wrong one. Tragically,
- 21:40Speaker 9: he waited for an hour for the Anderson to catch up. Yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 9: he's got no long radar, no short radar. That's out.
- 21:46Speaker 9: The lighthouse he's looking for. The light and the radio
- 21:49Speaker 9: beacon are both out. He's truly blind in a sideway snowstorm,
- 21:54Speaker 9: miserable one hundred miles p hour wins. It makes sense,
- 21:58Speaker 9: except right the storm is going ahead of him to
- 22:01Speaker 9: Whitefish Point and he's taken on water. If he had
- 22:05Speaker 9: gone straight through like he usually would, have he might
- 22:08Speaker 9: have made it.
- 22:09Speaker 1: So the only thing I knew about this, and I'm
- 22:14Speaker 1: guessing the majority of Americans who even know about it
- 22:17Speaker 1: was Gordon Lightfoot song which came out a year later
- 22:20Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy six, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
- 22:24Speaker 1: You do a great job of talking about that. I
- 22:27Speaker 1: was really interested in When it first came out, the
- 22:30Speaker 1: families thought that he was capitalizing on their tragedy, and
- 22:34Speaker 1: it was far from that.
- 22:35Speaker 9: Wasn't it exactly right? He was a sailor himself on
- 22:38Speaker 9: the Great Lakes. He's actually pretty good sailor. He had
- 22:41Speaker 9: great empathy. He was very concerned about the family's reactions.
- 22:45Speaker 9: He is also extremely concerned about getting every detail right,
- 22:49Speaker 9: and that song for a song, is ninety eight percent accurate.
- 22:52Speaker 9: He did a great job and changed the lyrics a
- 22:54Speaker 9: couple times when more evidence came out as to what
- 22:57Speaker 9: actually happened. So he was a very good guy about that.
- 23:00Speaker 9: And if you get on Rolling Stone Magazine today online,
- 23:04Speaker 9: those two chapters are now online. The first excerpt is
- 23:07Speaker 9: running today. The unlike the creation of the song and
- 23:10Speaker 9: the even more unlikely success of the song, here's a
- 23:13Speaker 9: fun fact for you and you know this one already.
- 23:16Speaker 9: He had never played it in public. They're finishing an
- 23:18Speaker 9: album in Toronto and they had a five day contract
- 23:22Speaker 9: for the studio. They finished the album after three and
- 23:24Speaker 9: a half days. He still has not recorded or even
- 23:26Speaker 9: played the Memphis Gerald song. And finally the guy in
- 23:29Speaker 9: the studio says, look, man, I'm charging you whether you
- 23:32Speaker 9: played anything else or not. You've got a day and
- 23:34Speaker 9: a half. The studio's here, the guys are here, why
- 23:36Speaker 9: not try it. So they played the song first time.
- 23:40Speaker 9: Anybody but Gordon Life It had heard it. They finished
- 23:43Speaker 9: the song and said, you know what, that's not half bad.
- 23:45Speaker 9: They tried ten more times. It was never as good
- 23:48Speaker 9: as that time. The song you hear on the radio
- 23:51Speaker 9: is actually the first time the group ever played the song,
- 23:56Speaker 9: and that never ever happens in recording. So because they
- 24:00Speaker 9: that was the difference, they felt it.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I could probably do another hour, John, but I will
- 24:07Speaker 1: I will not do that. I hope that we have
- 24:09Speaker 1: peaked the interest of people. This book is out next week.
- 24:14Speaker 1: It is just a phenomenal story. We just hit a
- 24:18Speaker 1: little of the high points. He deals with the entire
- 24:22Speaker 1: crew that went down that day, and let's end with this, John,
- 24:26Speaker 1: there were lots of ships at the bottom of the
- 24:30Speaker 1: Great Lakes when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in nineteen
- 24:34Speaker 1: seventy five, where they're not.
- 24:36Speaker 9: There are least between eighteen seventy five and nineteen seventy
- 24:40Speaker 9: five at least six thousand commercial shipwrecks. That's one per
- 24:44Speaker 9: week per century. And you know where I'm going with this, Yep,
- 24:47Speaker 9: not one since. Because that the Memphis Gerald a Titanic
- 24:53Speaker 9: going down so shocked the industry. He finally got right
- 24:57Speaker 9: about forecasting, about communication, even about common sense. It's too rough.
- 25:02Speaker 9: Don't go out. There's not been one loss since an
- 25:05Speaker 9: amazing record.
- 25:07Speaker 1: That was November tenth, nineteen seventy five. The book is
- 25:10Speaker 1: out next week. It's called The Gales of November. John
- 25:14Speaker 1: Bacon wrote it. John, I can't thank you enough for

- 29:01Speaker 1: In fact, they were spotted together with some PDA at
- 29:06Speaker 1: the US Open last Thursday night.
- 29:10Speaker 2: People love PDA at the US Open. I don't know
- 29:12Speaker 2: what it is.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Fellow chef Brooke Williamson going strong. They celebrated her birthday
- 29:21Speaker 1: earlier this month. She documented it on Instagram, so it's official.
- 29:32Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Two chefs, yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Yeah, not only not only two, not only two chefs.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm not sure of her history with with other men.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I don't think it's great. I do know of Bobby's
- 29:51Speaker 1: history with women, and it is not good.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Well, you know, maybe they're just having fun.
- 29:59Speaker 5: Maybe they are Bobby.
- 30:01Speaker 14: If I know anything about chefs is they're very spirited
- 30:04Speaker 14: and yeah, crazy in.
- 30:06Speaker 5: A good way, you do.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Bobby will turn sixty one in December. Brooke just celebrated
- 30:15Speaker 1: her forty seventh birthday.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Oh well, she's got time if she needs she does.
- 30:23Speaker 1: And Bobby has got the money. Yeah, he has just
- 30:29Speaker 1: announced a deal with basically a Canadian entrepreneur and franchise
- 30:38Speaker 1: executive in which he is going to open a bunch
- 30:42Speaker 1: of restaurants in Canada. So he is expanding the brand
- 30:52Speaker 1: as if he.
- 30:53Speaker 14: Needs it, you know, as I say, he was really
- 30:56Speaker 14: hurting for money.
- 30:57Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, I mean he's gotta go.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Sixty sixty one. It's finally time for him to settle down.
- 31:06Speaker 1: He's settled down about I think four other times, so he.
- 31:13Speaker 5: Doesn't his history.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Is not great maybe by the way, by the way,
- 31:20Speaker 1: they're kind of working together, you know, they do all
- 31:24Speaker 1: these shows together, and I'm going, so what happens.
- 31:28Speaker 5: You know, when the inevitable takes place?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Because I'm I'm pretty sure Bobby, take pretty sure Bobby's
- 31:36Speaker 1: not getting fired because.
- 31:38Speaker 14: They could take a page out of all the books
- 31:42Speaker 14: of all those other.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Just hate each other on screen.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Ye make you more money if any I guess. I guess, well,
- 31:53Speaker 5: we'll see. I give it three months.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Oh that's general.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you're welcome. Right before Christmas.
- 32:04Speaker 5: Gotta cut ties exactly.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Well, let's talk.
- 32:09Speaker 14: About another love couple who's destined to last forever.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey may have shared their.
- 32:15Speaker 14: Engagement news with the world, but their actual wedding won't
- 32:19Speaker 14: be such a public affair.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Chip, I don't know. They did say they do want
- 32:24Speaker 2: to keep it more private.
- 32:25Speaker 14: When they tie the knot, it will definitely be a
- 32:27Speaker 14: private affair and not a spectacle. They both have a
- 32:30Speaker 14: closer cole difference and they respect their privacy.
- 32:35Speaker 5: We'll see.
- 32:36Speaker 14: Apparently she's incredibly happy, which I would hope.
- 32:38Speaker 2: So if you're engaged to someone, it would be horrible
- 32:42Speaker 2: if you weren't excited about that. The engagement is a cherry.
- 32:46Speaker 14: On top of this wonderful error for both Swift and Kelsey,
- 32:50Speaker 14: who recently kicked off his thirteenth NFL season. I'm a
- 32:54Speaker 14: little mad at Travis Kelce right now.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie. I play fantasy football.
- 32:57Speaker 14: And he took out one of my players right now,
- 33:00Speaker 14: out which ivis Kelsey.
- 33:01Speaker 2: But don't come for.
- 33:02Speaker 14: Me, Swifties, all right, I know I'm my word is
- 33:05Speaker 14: so important to everyone. But she is gearing up for
- 33:10Speaker 14: her highly Taylor Swift is gearing up her highly anticipated
- 33:13Speaker 14: October third release of her forthcoming album, The Life of
- 33:18Speaker 14: a Shower Girl. What she worked on between the air
- 33:20Speaker 14: tour stops.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I don't think this shake ever? Does she sleep? I
- 33:24Speaker 2: don't know.
- 33:24Speaker 8: Man.
- 33:25Speaker 14: As for wedding planning, the couple are taking things one
- 33:28Speaker 14: step at a time.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I mean they have people that they could definitely have
- 33:31Speaker 2: what I don't know.
- 33:33Speaker 14: I feel like Taylor Swift might be a little bit
- 33:35Speaker 14: of like control godzilla.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I don't think she's a god Well maybe I don't
- 33:44Speaker 2: know her.
- 33:45Speaker 1: She is gonna be a bride zilla, I promise you,
- 33:48Speaker 1: But but it's gonna be Martha can come in and
- 33:52Speaker 1: straighten all that out.
- 33:53Speaker 5: She's already said she'd help.
- 33:55Speaker 2: I would love to see that dynamic.
- 33:57Speaker 14: Yeah, hey, maybe call Megan Markle talk about you, talk
- 34:02Speaker 14: about it.
- 34:03Speaker 5: Cat fight Martha and Taylor.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you'd have to have a referee for
- 34:09Speaker 1: that one.
- 34:10Speaker 14: Look, now that we're talking about this, I would love
- 34:12Speaker 14: to see Martha Stewart and Megan Markle have a conversation
- 34:16Speaker 14: because I feel like that.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Would not be good either.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 34:21Speaker 14: I'm just saying anyway, So guys, they're not gonna, you know,
- 34:26Speaker 14: have a whole reality show over their weddings, so you
- 34:30Speaker 14: can't watch it on TV unfortunately probably not.
- 34:34Speaker 2: You know, what can you do?
- 34:38Speaker 14: Well, I didn't even know that I was going to
- 34:39Speaker 14: talk about this, but what a great you know segue.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Prince Harry is giving back out of his pocket.
- 34:47Speaker 14: He donated one point five million to a leading fundraiser
- 34:50Speaker 14: for young people in the UK to make an impact
- 34:52Speaker 14: in the city he's been. He's become closely linked with
- 34:55Speaker 14: the Money for Children in Need, which is also contributing
- 35:00Speaker 14: four hundred and six thousand dollars will support young people's
- 35:03Speaker 14: grassroots organizations in Nottingham or Nottingham Sorry.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Where he visited on today? He visited today?
- 35:10Speaker 14: Wow, Yeah, it will go towards combating the challenges spaced
- 35:15Speaker 14: by young people living in areas affected by his violence
- 35:17Speaker 14: in the city. Nottingham is a place that he has
- 35:21Speaker 14: frequently visited over the years, and he wanted to use
- 35:24Speaker 14: his trip to the I didn't even know he was
- 35:25Speaker 14: in the UK.
- 35:26Speaker 5: But here it was unannounced.
- 35:30Speaker 14: I mean, maybe that's just how he wants to do
- 35:32Speaker 14: it from now on, and I don't blame him now
- 35:34Speaker 14: that he don't have protection, you know.
- 35:37Speaker 2: The no nation was announced as he spent.
- 35:39Speaker 14: Time at the Lively Community Recording Studio and caught up
- 35:43Speaker 14: with other local groups Epic Partners, young people in the
- 35:47Speaker 14: area's police and crime commissioners. During his visit visit, he
- 35:51Speaker 14: did give a speech in which he stated that he
- 35:53Speaker 14: was making a significant investment in the community.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I believe in what you're doing, he said, So he's
- 36:00Speaker 2: will help in the UK.
- 36:02Speaker 14: Good for him putting unnecessary garnishes on her homemade food.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I guess that he's making. I don't even know what
- 36:11Speaker 2: it is. He's like, I need to get out of here.
- 36:14Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'll see you later, take a quick trip.
- 36:21Speaker 5: So I'm very excited.
- 36:22Speaker 1: November sixteenth, Landman second season is being released. We know
- 36:28Speaker 1: that Demi Moore has got a larger role since the
- 36:32Speaker 1: shocking death of founder Monte Miller, who is John Hammon
- 36:36Speaker 1: the season one finale. Uh Tommy Norris aka belly Bob's
- 36:43Speaker 1: been appointed m Tech's president and tapped more the company
- 36:49Speaker 1: majority stakeholder to serve alongside him. There's a newfound partnership.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Spoiler alert, it's not exactly a smooth transition. The dynamic
- 37:02Speaker 1: is certainly interesting. Look, you've got to listen to me
- 37:07Speaker 1: because you've never done this before. Tell Billy Bob tells
- 37:10Speaker 1: her and her outlook on that is. How am I
- 37:13Speaker 1: going to learn?
- 37:14Speaker 5: If you do everything? Hmmm?
- 37:18Speaker 1: So you know we're about to We're about to get real.
- 37:23Speaker 1: There's some new people in here too. Sam Elliott is
- 37:26Speaker 1: in the cast, which I just love Sam Elliott, right,
- 37:29Speaker 1: how can you not? So I am exciting. I am
- 37:34Speaker 1: counting the days. Man, I really like this show. So
- 37:38Speaker 1: not for children, by the way, parents not for children.
- 37:45Speaker 14: I mean this in the nicest way, but I feel
- 37:47Speaker 14: like usually when Billy.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Bob and I know he's fantastic in.
- 37:50Speaker 1: This Yes, he was born to play the role, usually
- 37:55Speaker 1: it's not a kid.
- 37:56Speaker 5: It's not kid.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Family, You are correct. Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson have
- 38:06Speaker 1: a musical coming out based on Neil Diamond called song
- 38:13Speaker 1: Sung Blue real life Milwaukee area couple Mike and Clear Sardina,
- 38:19Speaker 1: who formed the band Lightning and Thunder in tribute to Diamond,
- 38:24Speaker 1: who's now eighty four. The movie meets Jackman and Hudson's characters,
- 38:29Speaker 1: they express a desire for something more out of life.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Claire wishes for a life beyond working as a hairdresser.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Mike desires to do something big, something new. The trailer,
- 38:42Speaker 1: which just dropped, follows the pair's relationship as it develops.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Their performances begin with snippets at Jackman and Hudson performing
- 38:52Speaker 1: Cherry Cherry and Sweet Caroline, written and directed by Craig Brewer.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Song Sung Blue is based on a two two thousand
- 39:00Speaker 1: and eight documentary of the same name, based on a
- 39:06Speaker 1: true story. To down on their luck, musicians form a
- 39:10Speaker 1: joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too late
- 39:16Speaker 1: to find love and follow your dreams. I don't know
- 39:19Speaker 1: if the movie will be any good, but I guarantee
- 39:21Speaker 1: the music will be good.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Well, there's that and Hugh Jackson. Hugh Jackman's a terrific performer,
- 39:29Speaker 5: he really is.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's coming out just in time for Christmas apparently.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Okay, well, there you go, there you go.
- 39:39Speaker 9: Well.
- 39:40Speaker 14: John Krasinski and Emily Blunt hit the Red Carpet and
- 39:43Speaker 14: Style to celebrate the highly anticipated premiere of Blunt's newest film,
- 39:48Speaker 14: The Smashing Machine at the Toronto and International Film Festival.
- 39:52Speaker 5: That's the one with the rock in it. I believe,
- 39:55Speaker 5: I believe.
- 39:56Speaker 2: So.
- 39:57Speaker 14: She did wear a pair of low ricke, slouchy pin
- 40:01Speaker 14: striped black trousers.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Her top was more intricate.
- 40:06Speaker 14: It had a triangle cutout in the center of her chest.
- 40:11Speaker 2: So there was a lot, a lot going on.
- 40:13Speaker 14: I would love to explain this to you, but even
- 40:16Speaker 14: explaining it and reading it, it doesn't make sense.
- 40:18Speaker 2: So maybe just google it look for a picture of it.
- 40:21Speaker 14: She wore her brown hair and loose waves, and her
- 40:23Speaker 14: glam included a nude lip and a shimmering nude eyed
- 40:26Speaker 14: shadow with.
- 40:27Speaker 2: A nude blood.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Nice.
- 40:29Speaker 2: A lot of a lot of that. John did sport
- 40:33Speaker 2: a dark gray glen plaid.
- 40:35Speaker 14: Suit with a coordinating vests and a black tie and
- 40:38Speaker 14: a black patent leather loafer.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Nice.
- 40:42Speaker 14: Emily did take a break from as we know, she
- 40:44Speaker 14: is filming The Devil Wears Protitude in their premiere.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Oh yes she is.
- 40:49Speaker 14: It's very There's been spoilers all over the place. Okay,
- 40:53Speaker 14: I mean it's New York City. What are you going
- 40:55Speaker 14: to do in twenty twenty five?
- 40:56Speaker 1: There's assuming I'm assuming Meryl Streep, isn't it.
- 40:59Speaker 2: She is, Yes, of course, of course, how could they not?
- 41:02Speaker 2: Could they have that without me?
- 41:03Speaker 5: Yeah? I never saw the movie.
- 41:08Speaker 2: She is rocking the new Red block who she plays.
- 41:12Speaker 14: Her character has read the hair, so she has been
- 41:15Speaker 14: rocking the Red Hair. But yeah, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Street uh.
- 41:20Speaker 14: And Stanley who plays Stanley.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I don't know how to say his last name. He
- 41:24Speaker 2: plays Nigel. Uh.
- 41:25Speaker 14: They're also reprising their rules nice and it has been
- 41:28Speaker 14: filming in the city, which again I've been seeing a
- 41:31Speaker 14: little bit here and there.
- 41:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I mentioned the Rock because his appearance at the Venice
- 41:37Speaker 1: Film Festival confirmed he's quote in the process of slimming down.
- 41:46Speaker 5: For another different I don't know skinny's the right word. Well, yeah,
- 41:53Speaker 5: he's a big guy.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Was it wasn't the michelin man. Essentially, it doesn't look like.
- 42:00Speaker 1: His latest project that's called Lizard Music will He'll play
- 42:05Speaker 1: a whimsical, eccentric, seventy something year old man, adding that
- 42:11Speaker 1: when it comes to wait, quote, I still have a
- 42:15Speaker 1: long ways to go. So we have it. We haven't
- 42:20Speaker 1: seen Rock in his final skinny form apparently yet. And
- 42:27Speaker 1: then there's this Kristen Cabot, the woman caught on the
- 42:33Speaker 1: Coldplay screen, has finally said quote she was amicably separated
- 42:43Speaker 1: from her now estranged husband several weeks before the viral moment.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Andrew Cabot, speaking out about the kiss cam and his divorce,
- 42:57Speaker 1: said he and Kristen were privately and amicably separated before
- 43:02Speaker 1: the concert. Andrew's the CEO of Privateer Rum. Kristen, of course,
- 43:10Speaker 1: caught kissing the CEO of Astronomer, where she worked. Kristen
- 43:16Speaker 1: foled for the divorce less than a month after the
- 43:20Speaker 1: Coldplay concert. Their decision, according to Andrew, was underway prior
- 43:27Speaker 1: to that evening. Kristin and Andy's moment on the jumbo
- 43:33Speaker 1: tron went viral. Even lead seer Chris Martin noticed the reaction.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Either they're having an affair or they're very shy, he
- 43:43Speaker 1: said at the time. Of course, Kristin and Andy are
- 43:48Speaker 1: no longer working for Astronomer. I hope these two kids
- 43:52Speaker 1: can find a way to make some money.
- 43:56Speaker 5: They're gonna need it.
- 44:00Speaker 14: Yeah, maybe Hydro significant others from them as well.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Stay stay away from kiss cams.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Oh there's that. Yeah, maybe I don't know. Chip My
- 44:14Speaker 2: show is coming back Fancing with the Star.
- 44:16Speaker 14: It is, yeah, and there was a surprising name on
- 44:20Speaker 14: the pro side of the ballroom.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I was a little surprised that he was came back.
- 44:23Speaker 14: But Mark ballas previously won on the show three times,
- 44:27Speaker 14: retired from his career as a pro on Dancing with
- 44:29Speaker 14: the Stars after his Mirror Ball Trophy winning run with
- 44:32Speaker 14: Charlie Demilio in season thirty one. To be fair, he
- 44:35Speaker 14: was kind of out of the spotlight for a little
- 44:38Speaker 14: bit before than though, so it was kind of surprising
- 44:40Speaker 14: he came back for that one season anyways, But regardless,
- 44:43Speaker 14: following the conclusion of Dancing with the Stars tour in
- 44:46Speaker 14: March of twenty twenty three, he did formally announce his retirement.
- 44:50Speaker 14: He said, I've done twenty season seasons now. I started
- 44:53Speaker 14: this journey when I was twenty one, twenty two and
- 44:55Speaker 14: honestly being able to dance and perform for your fans,
- 44:58Speaker 14: you guys are the best f I want to finish
- 45:01Speaker 14: this by saying this will be the last time in
- 45:04Speaker 14: this capacity.
- 45:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna well, this was.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Like a boxer or any other professional athlete, he can't
- 45:13Speaker 1: let it go.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah, don't ever say it's the end because you never know.
- 45:17Speaker 5: Wow.
- 45:18Speaker 14: But yeah, he's back, and he's dancing with a girl
- 45:22Speaker 14: named Whitney from the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which
- 45:25Speaker 14: I have heard of that, but I doubt you've heard
- 45:27Speaker 14: of much.
- 45:28Speaker 5: No, I have not that. Whitney. No, I have not
- 45:31Speaker 5: heard of it.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Another show that's coming back soon which I like, only
- 45:36Speaker 1: Murders in the Building introducing new characters this year the
- 45:43Speaker 1: ten installment episode, of course, Steve Martin, Selena Gomez Martin short,
- 45:54Speaker 1: let's see, Christophe Waltz is going to join the cast.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Renee Zellwegger is going to join the cast. Martha No, no,
- 46:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Camilla White played by Renee Zellwiger gives off
- 46:11Speaker 1: Martha Stewart vibes logan Luermann.
- 46:14Speaker 2: I have to say, Martha Stewart is.
- 46:17Speaker 1: A billionaire that shows up. They were delightful, says Steve Martin.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Christoph Waltz, whom I got to know a little bit,
- 46:24Speaker 1: is very wry and intellectual, but.
- 46:27Speaker 5: A sense of humor.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Let's see, Christophe, says Selena maybe laugh without even trying
- 46:37Speaker 1: the entire time. He was so genuine and matter of fact.
- 46:40Speaker 1: So I'm not sure when this is coming out. I
- 46:43Speaker 1: think it's soon because they're already doing you know what
- 46:47Speaker 1: I'm saying, pupulist.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I think the press.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they started press, so that'll be out soon.
- 46:53Speaker 1: So I've got a couple of shows I can watch now.
- 46:55Speaker 1: There haven't been anything for me, so I'm getting ready. Okay,

- 48:09Speaker 5: Apparently they both turned eighty five yesterday. How about that?
- 48:16Speaker 1: Will Lee, bass player from David Letterman's band, turned seventy
- 48:20Speaker 1: three yesterday.
- 48:27Speaker 5: I don't know who that is. I don't know who

- 51:10Speaker 11: It was after a hailstorm a few years back, I
- 51:12Speaker 11: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 51:15Speaker 11: I found Shorlty Roofing in Point. I'm glad I did.
- 51:17Speaker 11: The folks at Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 51:20Speaker 11: They showed me my options. They told me what my
- 51:23Speaker 11: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 51:25Speaker 11: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 51:29Speaker 11: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 51:31Speaker 11: did all the cleanup, and I had my new roof
- 51:33Speaker 11: in one day, the whole by volley roof.
- 51:42Speaker 3: Right at the time, thirty four yards on the right.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Hash the kicks away from thirty four. It's good and
- 51:50Speaker 3: the game ends in a tie. Yeah, they tie at forty.
- 51:55Speaker 16: And that is how the Cowboys and Packers finished the
- 51:58Speaker 16: game last night. It was a back in t'sorth of
- 52:00Speaker 16: fare is. Neither team seemed to be able to stop
- 52:02Speaker 16: the offense. This was the first time the Cowboys tied
- 52:05Speaker 16: a game since nineteen sixty nine when they played the
- 52:07Speaker 16: forty nine Ers. Dak Prescott spoke post game on the tie.
- 52:11Speaker 8: You don't play the game for ties. I've told yo before.
- 52:15Speaker 8: I don't care about the stats. I don't care about
- 52:17Speaker 8: the ups and downs, the abs and flows. I just
- 52:18Speaker 8: care about the end result and the win. And so
- 52:21Speaker 8: when you don't get that right now, it's tough for me.
- 52:24Speaker 5: You know.
- 52:24Speaker 8: Guess, ten years in the first tie I've been a
- 52:26Speaker 8: part of, it was hard to kind of wrap my
- 52:27Speaker 8: head around it because I know I feel a hell
- 52:29Speaker 8: a lot worse if it was a loss. But I'm
- 52:31Speaker 8: not satisfied. Not that I would be if we won,
- 52:33Speaker 8: but yeah, it's just it's a weird feeling.
- 52:35Speaker 16: The Cowboys next game is Sunday at noon against the Jets.
