- 1:07it. I have a very special guest today. When you
- 1:12see something that's called fire your friends,
- 1:15it makes you take notice. And it's something
- 1:17I want to get into specifically. I have a very
- 1:20special guest here today, Michael Valdes. You
- 1:22all know him through the world of LPT, but I'm
- 1:25here to talk about his book and all the things
- 1:27he's been doing and how he got to write this.
- 1:29It is an exciting story. It is some great takeaways
- 1:32from this. So please welcome me in joining. Michael
- 1:35Valdes. Tom, thank you for having me on the show.
- 1:37This is awesome, man. I really appreciate the
- 1:39last couple of days really getting to know one
- 1:40another. Yeah. And doing this. This is fun. It's
- 1:43good stuff. Look, I so I'm in the middle of writing
- 1:45a book right now. All right. I'm a fan boy. I'm
- 1:48jealous because you actually got it done. Right.
- 1:50Let's let's start with let's start with like.
- 1:53How did you get to the point where you wanted
- 1:54to write a book? And here's the thing. This is
- 1:57not AI slop. No, this is me writing this. This
- 2:00wasn't AI. No, this is me sitting down and writing
- 2:03this. This was like you called it before. This
- 2:05is MV, not AI. This is MV, not AI. Right, right.
- 2:07Exactly, right. Talk to me first about the process
- 2:10of writing a book, what that feels like, what
- 2:12that looks like, and how much you had to put
- 2:14into this. Look, here's the thing. I actually
- 2:17didn't tell anybody that I was writing it. Because
- 2:19it wasn't, you know, I've got probably about
- 2:2130 friends that are saying, oh, I'm writing a
- 2:23book right now. It's great. And so I didn't want
- 2:25to be the 31st. I wanted to just actually do
- 2:28it, get it out there. And then the structure
- 2:31of it, I travel over 200 days a year telling
- 2:33our story right now and having the ability to
- 2:36do things like this and being super disciplined
- 2:38and doing it, whether I'm on the plane or at
- 2:40home or in a hotel room and blocking out the
- 2:43time. But what actually got me to do this was
- 2:46once I had the structure. So I wrote the book
- 2:49with an analogy of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
- 2:51Which you did. I did not. Okay. All right. No,
- 2:54I did not. That would have been AI. If you saw
- 2:57me at the top of that, that would have been AI.
- 2:59This was not. Okay. Okay. But you must have,
- 3:01you have some connection to it or you. Yeah.
- 3:04Listen, I thought, I thought it was, first of
- 3:06all, you don't ever have to like climb a mountain
- 3:08at all to have the analogy of what this was.
- 3:11And that was also important. So you could actually
- 3:13relate to what the stories were, what we're trying
- 3:16to tell. And what that it was basically me holding
- 3:20up a mirror. to someone else. Yeah. Right. And
- 3:23so why I wrote it was the idea that this is,
- 3:26this is a milestone birthday for me this year.
- 3:28I'll turn 60 and it's like 60. Yeah, man. Great.
- 3:32Thanks, bro. What magic are you? No, I'm on the
- 3:35little sort of like, what voodoo are you using?
- 3:39Give me some of that. I'm on like the peptide
- 3:41sort of like, you know, rabbit hole. That's a
- 3:43whole lot of separate. But it was one of those
- 3:48that when you hit a milestone, you start thinking
- 3:50about you. life right you start thinking about
- 3:52who has been around you you start thinking about
- 3:56appreciation of what you've accomplished and
- 3:58who was there and climbing that mountain and
- 4:02then looking back and then you start asking anybody
- 4:04you know think about the people who were closest
- 4:06to you 10 years ago yeah are they still in your
- 4:09life now Yeah. Probably about 80 % of the people
- 4:11will say, well, not all of them. Yeah. Right.
- 4:13A lot, a lot of them. And a lot of them. I actually
- 4:15went through a very similar experience. Yeah.
- 4:17I had to say the people who got me to a certain
- 4:19point. That's it. Turned out being caustic. And
- 4:21I, and you and I talked about my son, which I,
- 4:23you know, I, I connect a lot of things back to
- 4:25myself. Yeah. That's the world I live. Right.
- 4:27And I would tell him all the time growing up,
- 4:29you are who you surround yourself with. That's
- 4:32what captured me when I started to read through
- 4:33this. And you think, you know, everyone hears
- 4:36that you're the five people that you're, you're,
- 4:38you're the culmination of the five people that
- 4:40you spend the most time with. What people say
- 4:42less times is that those five people need to
- 4:45change at different parts of your life. Yeah.
- 4:47And fire your friends was a provocative title,
- 4:49but it was supposed to be. Yeah. It was, it's
- 4:52what stops you. It's like, well, what does that
- 4:54mean? I don't, it's sort of like, it's an uncomfortable
- 4:55thing. Yeah. Everything's uncomfortable. Growth
- 4:58is uncomfortable. As you continue to grow, those
- 5:01people that are going to help you elevate. are
- 5:04the ones that need to change as you get to different
- 5:07plateaus. And that's, you're not being, you're
- 5:09not being flip. You are seriously, this is an
- 5:11investment in yourself. 100%. Like, so you talked
- 5:14about, you did a keynote recently and one of
- 5:16the ladies in the audience said, well, do I need
- 5:18to divorce my husband? Yeah. And so tell me about
- 5:21that. So that was crazy. So I promoted the book
- 5:23in Canada. Yeah. And so it was a conference that
- 5:28I was speaking at and I went through the highlights
- 5:31of the book and the concepts of the book. And
- 5:34then one lady raises her hand and says, are you
- 5:38telling me to divorce my husband? And so I said,
- 5:40did I say that? Well, first of all, is he here?
- 5:44First of all, is he here? Wow. All of a sudden
- 5:48you're a family counselor on top of it. Yeah,
- 5:50there we go. And so it was that, she says, he's
- 5:56not aligned with what my vision is. And I said,
- 6:01First of all, you have to decide, are you climbing
- 6:02the right mountain? Yeah. And if you are, are
- 6:05those people that are on your rope teams, the
- 6:08ones that are going to elevate you? Yeah. And
- 6:10whether that's your husband, whether that's your
- 6:12family member, you have to make a really, really
- 6:16conscious decision. Yeah. Right. 100%. Yeah.
- 6:19This ties also into what Robert Palmer was talking
- 6:22about yesterday, IDEO. 100%. Talk a little bit
- 6:25about that. So how do you weave through LPT and
- 6:28the others? Look, you start thinking about IDOS,
- 6:30which is something that we've coined, which is
- 6:32the individual definition of success. A person's
- 6:36individual definition of success. And so Robert
- 6:38talks about the idea that he had to build his
- 6:41own dream big enough to have everyone else's
- 6:44fit within that. And not about money. Not about
- 6:46money necessarily. No, it's whatever drives somebody,
- 6:49right? Look, for me, I've been really fortunate.
- 6:53I was an investment banker for 10 years. This
- 6:54is my 24th year in real estate. I've done very
- 6:57well for myself. I'm not at Robert's level or
- 7:00tax bracket. No one's at Robert's level. God
- 7:02damn. But if I didn't want to, I don't have to
- 7:04work anymore in my life. And so when I look at
- 7:07what I want to do right now, the only thing that
- 7:11resonates is impact. Not my impact. How do I
- 7:13impact others? And that was the only thing that
- 7:16resonated. That was the impetus of the book.
- 7:18What does the process look like as you take inventory
- 7:21of who is around you in your current life and
- 7:23where do you want to go? There's actually tools
- 7:26in everything. Every chapter focuses on a certain
- 7:30point of that journey. And then there's trail
- 7:34questions, as I call it, and then base camp exercises
- 7:37on every chapter. And so we'll think about it
- 7:40this way. If you were to climb Mount Kilimanjaro,
- 7:43You just can't go to the top of the mountain
- 7:45because you'll die, right? You have to go into
- 7:48various levels. So a certain number of people
- 7:52will take you to base camp. And so what happens
- 7:54at base camp? You have to be there for a certain
- 7:57number of days. You have to be there for your
- 8:00body to acclimate. It's a different environment,
- 8:04right? And it also is a different view. Because
- 8:07now you're at the base of the mountain, but you
- 8:10also have to remember that it's just the base.
- 8:11But you're above where you started from, but
- 8:14you're still at the base of the mountain. Now
- 8:16you decide, okay, I have two choices. Base camp
- 8:19is really wonderful. There's flags from all over
- 8:22the world, tents. It's colorful. People are having
- 8:24tea. They're hanging out. Most people are comfortable
- 8:26in base camp. That was my whole point. They're
- 8:29super comfortable there. And so what are your
- 8:32two choices? You either hang out there because
- 8:34it's fun. Or you decide to go and elevate. But
- 8:38if you decide to keep climbing, the interesting
- 8:41part is that those five people that took you
- 8:43to base camp cannot take you any further simply
- 8:46because they do not know how to take you further.
- 8:50They're not bad people. They don't have the skill
- 8:53set. So you need a different set of Sherpas to
- 8:55take you up the mountain. Talk about the world
- 8:57we live in now, which is mostly around realtors
- 8:59and brokers and the rest. What does base camp
- 9:02look like? like for a typical realtor today?
- 9:05You know, that's such a great question. You know,
- 9:08look, there's a lot of noise in our industry,
- 9:10right? There's a lot of noise that's getting
- 9:12caught up with a lot of lawsuits with our competitors,
- 9:15the consolidation of the private listings and
- 9:20the whole thing going on and the consolidation
- 9:23of so many other brokerages that are coming together
- 9:26as early as this week. And when you start looking
- 9:29at it, it's a lot of noise. And somebody who
- 9:31is here serving as just that agent serving their
- 9:36consumer, when you start hearing about all of
- 9:38this, you're not even at Basecamp yet. You're
- 9:40just in the noise going up the mountain until
- 9:43you get to Basecamp. So Basecamp is when you
- 9:46decide what you want to do. What is your IDOS?
- 9:51What do you want to contribute to? What's the
- 9:53impact you want to do? Are you doing this because
- 9:55you want to go and serve your family, your community?
- 9:58One of the worst things that happened was during
- 10:00COVID where all of these real estate agents actually
- 10:03became millionaires, right? And so they were
- 10:05looking at these Bravo TV shows and thinking
- 10:08everyone can do it. And the problem was that
- 10:10some people actually did do it. But guess what?
- 10:12They're not in our industry anymore. because
- 10:13now you needed the skill set. Now you actually
- 10:16needed to know what you were doing. So Basecamp
- 10:18is just that, the basics of wanting to serve
- 10:21a consumer, knowing how to do so, and knowing
- 10:24how you are different. How do you differentiate
- 10:27yourself? in this noise i think this resonates
- 10:29with a lot of realtors today because i'm hearing
- 10:31a lot of folks as i go out there and they're
- 10:33thinking about where do i go next what do i do
- 10:35from here i've built a local brand but i've been
- 10:37connected to a brokerage for a long time yep
- 10:39and they're thinking do i transition to a new
- 10:41team do i transition to a new model right so
- 10:44what is the process now and who are those five
- 10:46sherpas let's talk about what they what they
- 10:48yeah but i'll i'll answer your first question
- 10:51first because there's there's always that sense
- 10:53of i feel connected to the brand i was with And
- 10:57so as of the last couple of months, the brand
- 11:00you were with is most likely not the brand that
- 11:02you're at now because of consolidation and everything
- 11:05else. There's a lot of names that are changing.
- 11:07And does brand matter? Does broker brand matter?
- 11:10See, that's such a great point because I think
- 11:13some agents do think that. Some agents think,
- 11:16I'm going to align myself with this name in this
- 11:20industry because I need that name on my sign.
- 11:22And you don't. You need to know that. You, Tom,
- 11:26are the person that's going to connect with that
- 11:28consumer. That's who you are. You're the brand.
- 11:32The moment that the agent realizes that, then
- 11:34that's where we actually get to a special place,
- 11:37right? And so, yes, I do talk about the five
- 11:39Sherpas. And I try to consolidate this and try
- 11:43to do it in a way that it's five of your circle
- 11:46or your rope team, as I say, and the people that
- 11:49are actually going to elevate you up. And so
- 11:52one of them is your skills Sherpa, right? It's
- 11:56like you want somebody who has done the climb
- 11:59before you. And there is actually intervals of
- 12:03space and time. So a mentor. Well, yes, but more
- 12:07than a mentor. You just don't want someone that's
- 12:09going to say, you know, come on, I'll show you
- 12:11the way, right? Because not everyone has those
- 12:14skills either. So I actually really purposefully
- 12:18break them up into the skill set. of what you're
- 12:23needing and you may not need all five at once
- 12:25you might have some of them filled already so
- 12:27the skills person is the one who's climbed that
- 12:30mountain before And you are actually going to
- 12:33see who's the person who's been there. That's
- 12:35just a few steps ahead of me. So maybe like the
- 12:38zero to six, you can see somebody that if you
- 12:41wanted to sell, you know, five homes a year and
- 12:44you're on your second one, that person is great
- 12:47because now you can sort of like say, okay, what's
- 12:49three more, right? It's two and a half X what
- 12:52you've done, but it's only three more when you
- 12:54start thinking about it. Now you start going
- 12:56into what would it feel like to sell 50 homes?
- 12:59You know, that's a little more uncomfortable.
- 13:02But who do I need to find for that? And then
- 13:05what is it if I want to sell 100 plus homes a
- 13:08year? Well, that's not even in my mindset right
- 13:10now. So there's tiered versions of what that
- 13:13skills Sherpa should be, right? And then we go
- 13:17into strategy. The strategy Sherpa is an interesting
- 13:20one because it's the blueprint. You know what
- 13:23always fascinates me is how few agents have a
- 13:27business plan. I think that's true for a lot
- 13:30of businesses in general. Well, that's very true.
- 13:32Take it out of real estate, right? I think you
- 13:34can go across a number of, I am always amazed
- 13:37when I go into businesses, particularly for a
- 13:39turnaround situation where it's like, what's
- 13:42your North store? What are you trying to accomplish?
- 13:43And no one knows because they're working in the
- 13:45business, not on the business. That's right.
- 13:47Right. That's right. Yeah. And as an agent, whether
- 13:49you're a solo agent that is just working on your
- 13:52own business, a team leader, an independent,
- 13:54or part of a larger brokerage, the idea that.
- 13:58They don't know where they're going. How do you
- 14:00know when you arrive? Absolutely. Right? And
- 14:03so the idea of a strategy is so important. And
- 14:07then you have a strategy Sherpa that will actually,
- 14:10they've done it before. They will say to you,
- 14:13hey, have you thought about it in this way? Yeah.
- 14:16Because it's a little bit different than what
- 14:18you're looking at. So they press you. They press
- 14:22you. Of course they press you. So that should
- 14:23be a person who takes you out of your comfort
- 14:25zone. Yes. But some of these blend together,
- 14:28right? Because then you have your truth Sherpa.
- 14:30Okay. And your truth Sherpa. So we have skills
- 14:32Sherpa. Skills. Vision Sherpa. But we haven't
- 14:35gone to vision yet. Okay. Strategy Sherpa. Strategy.
- 14:37Okay. Strategy, skill, truth Sherpa is someone
- 14:40who's not going to let you get away with his
- 14:42shit. Right? Ah, okay. Someone who's going to
- 14:44be, not going to ramp on you either, but it's
- 14:47like. Tom, that's not really where this is landing,
- 14:50right? It's like, look, I love you, brother.
- 14:52And this is the way that it's come across. And
- 14:55it's sort of like, you know, maybe you could
- 14:57think of it in a different delivery and a way
- 14:59like that. That's somebody who cares about your
- 15:01climb. That's somebody who cares about your climb
- 15:04and cares about you enough to actually sort of
- 15:07say, hey, that's not who you are. I know your
- 15:10soul. I know your heart. That's not who you are.
- 15:12Right. Right. And so because sometimes we just
- 15:13get caught up. Sometimes it's like, look, I got
- 15:16to get aggressive to get up that mountain and
- 15:18I need to sort of do whatever I need to do. And
- 15:21sometimes your, your persona is not your truth.
- 15:25Absolutely. Right. And not everyone can be the
- 15:27same thing. Not everyone could be Ryan Serhant.
- 15:29Right. Right. Right. He is an interesting individual
- 15:32type of person who does that really well. So
- 15:35then people will look at that and go, I'm going
- 15:37to be Ryan Serhant. That's right. Yes. You know
- 15:39how hard that is? Right? You don't just, hey,
- 15:42I have a TV show. And look, you brought up Ryan.
- 15:46This is really interesting. I've known Ryan a
- 15:47while. Ryan did a podcast that I was doing years
- 15:51ago. And it was really interesting because he
- 15:53said to me, Michael, when I shoot an episode
- 15:55of Million Dollar Agent, whatever I shoot today
- 15:59will not air for another 10 months. And so...
- 16:04It has to go through edit, post edit, everything
- 16:07else. So whoever I'm on camera today needs to
- 16:10be the future Ryan from 10 months from now, because
- 16:13that's who you're going to see on screen. And
- 16:15I was like, what a wonderful visual of doing
- 16:18that. That actually gets right to what that Sherpa,
- 16:21that Sherpa should be saying. That's exactly
- 16:23it. What? does this look like you in the future
- 16:26exactly right yeah so that's so incredible and
- 16:30that's that's the that's that's the truth sherpa
- 16:33the vision sherpa is the one who actually has
- 16:35that plan in place yeah the one who actually
- 16:39can think about what the future will look like
- 16:44and how you can actually create that for yourself.
- 16:47And they don't necessarily have to be from the
- 16:49real estate industry, do they? Of course not.
- 16:50This is not a real estate book. Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:53This is a book about life. But for the realtors
- 16:56out there listening to this now and they're thinking,
- 16:58oh my God, I need to find these people, right?
- 17:01They don't necessarily have to look within their
- 17:03brokerage or another brokerage. Look, it doesn't
- 17:05even have to be somebody you know. Right. You
- 17:07start thinking about this, you know, like I had
- 17:10this conversation with somebody at the event
- 17:12yesterday and they were saying, hey, but, you
- 17:15know, I followed Tony Robbins a lot, but I don't
- 17:19know Tony Robbins. And I said, you don't need
- 17:21to. The fact that he's influencing you already,
- 17:24he's one of your Sherpas. Yeah. And so you don't
- 17:28need to know the person. The person doesn't have
- 17:30to be physically in front of you. They just have
- 17:31to influence you enough where you actually see.
- 17:36them filling that role for you. Love that. Yeah.
- 17:39Love that. I love all those three or those four.
- 17:42Yeah. Let's talk about the fifth one because
- 17:44I think it's the most compelling. It is compelling.
- 17:45And that's the spirit Sherpa. It's, you know,
- 17:48you always sort of say that mind, body and soul
- 17:50where you actually want to have that, that perfect
- 17:53triangle. By the way, there's no perfect triangles,
- 17:55but that spirit Sherpa that makes sure that you
- 17:58don't burn out. Make sure the why of why you
- 18:02were doing this. Was it for your children? Was
- 18:05it for the legacy you want to leave behind? Was
- 18:07it to impact hundreds of thousands of people?
- 18:10How big is that spirit Sherpa? And are you actually
- 18:14creating and continuing the climb with that core
- 18:17in mind? I love that. Yeah, I love that. And
- 18:20now like that really gets again back to IDOS.
- 18:23That's right. Because it's so individual. That's
- 18:26right. Right. Because it is okay. I think. to
- 18:29only want to do 10 sales a year. Oh my God, absolutely.
- 18:34As long as all the other thing applies. There's
- 18:36nothing wrong with it. There's nothing wrong
- 18:36with it. Look, we talk about, I talk about it
- 18:39in the book also, you and I can go and see a
- 18:41movie right now, right? And we're going to sit
- 18:43in a theater with 200 other people and we're
- 18:46going to see a movie for two hours and we're
- 18:49going to walk out of that and 200 people will
- 18:52have different opinions of what we just saw.
- 18:56Absolutely. And you start thinking to yourself,
- 18:58how is that even possible? We just saw the same
- 19:01120 minutes of cellulary that was edited together
- 19:05by an editor in a dark room somewhere. And we've
- 19:08all seen the same images. Yeah. And we come up
- 19:11with different, walked away with a wildly different.
- 19:13That's right. Because we all see life through
- 19:16our own lens. Absolutely. So now what about,
- 19:19I think one of the places this really resonates
- 19:21most is toxicity. Yes. And I see with a lot of
- 19:26people in general, they have people who are naysayers,
- 19:29but they don't want to cut that cord, right?
- 19:31Talk to me a little bit about that. That's really,
- 19:34really important. When you start thinking about
- 19:37who you have around you, and sometimes we feel
- 19:38guilty. Like I say, fire your friends. What if
- 19:40your friend is your mother? Right. And so like,
- 19:44how do you fire another? Yeah. And so it's the
- 19:46idea. Can I fire my mom? Oh, and she'll watch
- 19:49this. I know. Believe me. She better watch it.
- 19:52You bastard. No, it's the idea that it's the
- 19:59conceptual part of it. Just back to the lens.
- 20:01Your mother's saying, Tom, what are you thinking?
- 20:03You can't do that. That's too risky. Yeah. That's
- 20:06her protecting you. It's out of love. Right.
- 20:09But you're the one that you will not scale. unless
- 20:13you do this. And if you actually go and try not
- 20:17to do this to appease her, you're not helping
- 20:19yourself. But isn't failure part of it? Failure
- 20:22is a great lesson. It's a great lesson. Failure
- 20:25is a great lesson. Failure is not bad. No, failure
- 20:28is good. Failure is good. Go ask Thomas Edison.
- 20:31100%. Right? He failed 10 ,000 times and we got
- 20:34a light bulb. Lincoln. Lincoln. How many times
- 20:36did he lose? Exactly. Wild levels of depression.
- 20:40100%. Yeah. right so even as i think about like
- 20:43my son and his trajectory in life and you know
- 20:46for a long time it was that's not i can't do
- 20:48it i want to do it but i can't because my buddies
- 20:50won't think it's cool yeah right yeah how much
- 20:52of that type of thing do you hear particularly
- 20:54with a realtor your social media you become very
- 20:56vulnerable that's right you have to put yourself
- 20:58out there and you know there are other people
- 20:59that they're going look at them they they've
- 21:01got the people they're probably saying in the
- 21:03comments right now 100 that's good as long as
- 21:06they're commenting i don't give a Right? Just
- 21:08comment. That's right. But I think you have to
- 21:12really be comfortable understanding where it
- 21:16is you want to be and to surround yourself with
- 21:19the people who will get that, even if that's
- 21:21wrong. That was chapter two. Yeah. Is picking
- 21:25the right mountain. Yeah. Right? So think about
- 21:28it. And there are friends of mine that have been
- 21:31climbing the wrong mountain for years. Why? Because
- 21:34their parents were physicians. They were supposed
- 21:37to be a physician. And guess what? They did.
- 21:39But they hate it. They hate it. They hate it.
- 21:41Well, I see a number of attorneys who are like
- 21:42that. The attorneys. Absolutely terrible. And
- 21:44your whole life is planned for you. And you're
- 21:47just going through it. And so it's a really bad
- 21:50discovery if you just stop and figure out, I'm
- 21:54on the wrong mountain. And then you have to do
- 21:56some really, really bad math. Because as I think
- 22:00about the average lifespan for someone in the
- 22:05U .S., it's probably 80. So whatever age you
- 22:08are now while you're actually having this discussion,
- 22:10subtract that, figure out the delta. If that's
- 22:1420 years, 30 years, 40 years, whatever it is,
- 22:16do you want to spend that amount of time on the
- 22:19wrong mountain? Yeah, absolutely. Recruiting
- 22:23in real estate is critical. Yes, it is. And there's
- 22:25a lot of young agents out there who are struggling
- 22:28and wondering, did I make the right decision?
- 22:31That's right. What do you say to them and how
- 22:32does this look apply? So you actually... Well,
- 22:36look, some people probably shouldn't be in the
- 22:39industry, to be quite honest, right? So not everyone
- 22:42should be in this industry. Trust me. And this
- 22:44industry is brutal enough that it will self -select.
- 22:50Great point. And so this is where people say,
- 22:53I just can't make it. And a lot of people did
- 22:56fall out, right? But what remained? The people
- 23:00that did remain, A, you have less competition.
- 23:03B, you have a less amount, you've quieted the
- 23:05noise. You have a greater opportunity and lens
- 23:09to make your message clearer and be known. So
- 23:13if it's your mountain, you have to sort of stick
- 23:16to it, find your Sherpas and climb. Love that.
- 23:20We're going to jump into signal or noise. I'm
- 23:23going to throw out a couple of things you're
- 23:24going to say, whether it's signal. It has meaning
- 23:26with some noise. All right, great. Rapid fire?
- 23:28Yep, rapid fire. Thank you. Love this. And there's
- 23:31so many takeaways here. I can't wait to see team
- 23:33leaders pick this up and actually start to use
- 23:35these tutorials, these worksheets. A lot of the
- 23:39team leaders have actually taken this and created
- 23:41their sales meetings around it, which is extraordinary.
- 23:44Yeah, I love that too. All right. The most important
- 23:47part of this podcast is called Signal. We do
- 23:49signal or noise. I'm going to throw out a topic.
- 23:51You're going to tell me whether it's signal or
- 23:52noise. Let's do it. And I have to ask this one
- 23:54because, again, it just landed again today. Yes.
- 23:56Another thing came up again, Compass coming after
- 23:58Zillow, and signal or noise. Is that whole thing?
- 24:02Ton of noise. Ton of noise. Ton of noise. Has
- 24:04zero meaning. Now, look, it doesn't have zero
- 24:06meaning, but it doesn't affect the average realtor
- 24:10doing their business. Yeah. It just doesn't affect
- 24:13them. Absolutely. Right? Noise. Consolidation
- 24:17of MLSs from almost 500 now to maybe a handful.
- 24:22Signal or noise? Look, somewhere in the middle.
- 24:25I think I'm going to lean more towards noise,
- 24:27but it's somewhere in the middle because, sure,
- 24:30the agents need to be aware of it, but again,
- 24:32it doesn't affect them on a day -to -day. They'll
- 24:35just go and list it at another MLS. Most agents
- 24:37don't care. They don't care. Yeah, it's all about
- 24:40that local relationship. Absolutely. All right.
- 24:42Yes. All right. Signal or noise? Okay. Here we
- 24:45go. Interest rates. Of course it's a signal.
- 24:48Yeah, of course. It's the biggest lever? I would
- 24:53say so, sure. I think there's a lot of money
- 24:56on the sidelines. You have a new Fed chair, which
- 24:58you're all figuring out where his machinations
- 25:00are and his maneuvers. um so no it's a signal
- 25:03a signal or noise the rise of non -traditional
- 25:06brokerages versus the legacy ones is that a trend
- 25:09that has sustainability and legs or is that noise
- 25:13that is a big signal thanks that's a big signal
- 25:16like it's very selfish we were the fastest growing
- 25:18real estate company in history um you know i
- 25:21left my former employer that was that i helped
- 25:24build to the largest independent to come here
- 25:25because this is the vision that i see as to serving
- 25:29agents at the highest level around the world.
- 25:32What is the last message you want to convey to
- 25:35all those realtors out there who are hustling
- 25:37and grinding and are waiting for interest rates
- 25:39to change and macroeconomics to change? What
- 25:43is the words of wisdom? The message is to understand
- 25:46what your value is, understand why you came here,
- 25:49understand that if you serve others at the highest
- 25:52level, you're always going to win. Love that.
- 25:55Michael Valdes, fire your friends. Pick it up,
- 25:59read it. You can get this where? We'll have information
- 26:00below. But Amazon, right? Amazon, yes. Super
- 26:03easy, yes. You carry around a satchel, right?
- 26:06100 at any time. You'll sign it, whatever they
- 26:08want. That's it. I think we're going to have
- 26:09some at Inman, so that'll be fun. Well, actually,
- 26:11you'll be doing a signing at Inman. Yes, I will.
