- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You there, adventurer?
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, you.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Do you desire knowledge of immense worlds and arcane power?
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: A codex of untold stories and lore?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Or perhaps simply easy listening for your daily commute.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Then feast your eyes, or more accurately, yes, upon Dungeon Pedia.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Shit's about to get nerdy in here.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: It's my birthday, beach! And it is Lewin's birthday.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: It's yes, it's me.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: It's my day.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: So just a quick little peek behind the curtain.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: We all we every week we have a very narrow window of time in which we can record an episode.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like just being honest here.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: Um and which is why lately there's been issues.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: But yeah, because it's like if one thing goes wrong and disrupts that window, like it's gone.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: If we can't get it fixed within a certain amount of time, it's gone.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: It's shot.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Too bad.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: So sad.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: But um so with that in mind, because of the way our our window falls, we have known for quite some time that we were going to be recording on Louis's birthday.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: It's it is actually my actual birthday right now.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: It won't be when this goes up.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: But I mean, you can still you can still go and wish me a happy late birthday and uh send all your gifts to P.O.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Box.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: No, I'm kidding.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Don't do that.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: We don't have a P.O.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: box.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: We do not have a P.O.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: box.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Send all your gifts to your own bank account and or uh DD table.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yes.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: That that's how you can celebrate.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Just play DD and Lewin's honor.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: That sounds good.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: That's that's what I want.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: That's what I want for my birthday, is for everyone to have a good time and be happy.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: And for this year to be over.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: But also because it's halfway fucking over now.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: But also flood our Twitter with happy birthday wishes to Lewin.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: While also simultaneously pressure pressuring her for a boxing video.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: I probably oh is there is there a chance that when this goes up that that will be live?
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, probably.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Oh probably.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: If it's not.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: You know what to do.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: I'm succumbing to the peer pressure.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: It's happening, you guys.
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: You have done it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Hey, it's my birthday.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: Be nice to me.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: It is your birthday.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: And for your birthday.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: What'd you get me?
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, myconids.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: What?
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: We know how much you love mushrooms.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, those are those guys?
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Those are those guys.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: So this was.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Listen.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: I bring you the lovely history behind myconids, which are basically walking toadstools.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Are they.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, they're they're mushrooms.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: They're mushrooms.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Are they are they magic?
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Um, some of them.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, I guess it kind of depends on your definition.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, to be fair, my favorite kind of mushrooms.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: In the broadest nice.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And my second favorite's portobellas.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: In the broadest sense of the term, like, isn't any like living sentient thing that's not typically living and sentient magical?
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, not no.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say yes.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say yes to that one.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: But anyway.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: In any case, I just wanted to make a magic mushroom stroke.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: It's a what I didn't mean to open the door to that.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Uh we're not terribly far off.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: So, Mike and Ids, I actually didn't find this topic originally that would be Taylor.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Yay, get me.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Who found it during her demon research and told me about it, and then I expanded on the research.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Are they demons?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: They are not demons.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: They're related you'll see.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I I know a little bit about this just because of the fact that I'm like, hey, look at this really cool thing that I found while doing demon research.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: And that immediately made me be like, ooh, what other things can I find about this?
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Uh the answer is like seven pages worth of notes.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, nice.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: So, uh we're gonna jump back to the first appearance of them, which was in the Monster Manual 2 in 1983 for first edition.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, in this, they are described as resembling walking toad toadstools in humanoid form.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: So they're humanoid-ish.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Their flesh is usually like a bloated and spongy variant of color between like purple to gray.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Doesn't it sound so pretty?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: I see, you know, I was like, I was with it, and then the word like bloated, and I was like, uh Yeah, the the word bloated in there, I was like, that's interesting, but okay.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: It just never, it never sounds good.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: It's not a good sounding.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: No, it it it's very evocative for sure, though.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: And this is to say that their general form doesn't actually change a whole lot throughout the editions.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: They're always this humanoid mushroom-like thing form.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, gotcha.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Their color does kind of vary like intermittently in between, but they're all basically this weird mushroom people.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Mushroom people.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Um, their hands are pudgy and have two stubby fingers and a thumb on each hand, so they have like three appendages to grab.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, they're like uh Turians and Quarians.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: Mass effect references for you all.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Um, every part of their body except for their hands oozes this substance that is poisonous to it said animal flesh, and this refers to pretty much anything other than them.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: So fauna instead of flora.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Pretty much.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: So like this would also include humans, for example.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: So if you except their hands.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, except for their hands.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Their hands do not excrete this weird, oozy, poisonous substance, but the rest of them do.
- 6:09SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And it's basically like if you touch them, it burns you.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: It gives you damage.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: So you take one D whatever acid poison.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: I think in this case they consider it poison damage.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Just because it's labeled as a poisonous substance, but it's makes sense.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: I have to is it poisonous or venomous?
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: It is poisonous.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: It's poisonous acid.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: And that's that's the words the monster manual uses.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: So Yes.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Um, in general, they live deep underground, also known as the Underdark.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: And they prefer anywhere that conditions are suitable for any fungi to grow.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Because they're fungi.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: They're fungi.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: They're fungi.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: They they are.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Also, I Googled it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: That would technically be poison.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: So nobody, nobody, no biologists don't like, don't come for us, please.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Their alignment is lawful neutral.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, they're they are very neutral, honestly.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: They well, you you know what?
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Good for them.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: I I I I was I'm very with it.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: They never venture outside and they have this like deathly fear of direct sunlight.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Um, it does say that the exact effects of direct sunlight on the mic and it are unknown in this particular book.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: But they preface all this with it must be detrimental since their fear is so great.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: My thought is that they're such a subterranean race that they burns their eyes or something like that.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Well, you would probably like burn their eyes, or maybe exposure too long would kill them, like maybe dry them up.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, mushrooms are very watery.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: They and you know, they grow in like like under damp.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, damp, like under shade, and what have you.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: I do think the possibility that it's maybe actually not that bad for them.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: It's just kind of like a culturally ingrained fear in them.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: That's interesting to me.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: That that is intriguing.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, also because it you know, because you would think that it would be given in a stat block that's like they take this, this, and this from direct sunlight, but instead it's just like we don't know.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: They don't they're just don't like it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're just scared of it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Which I mean, to be fair, if I'd lived underground for generations and generations, I'd be scared of the sun too.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Like, there's a giant ball of fire in the sky.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: What the fuck?
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: No things.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Nah, that's gotta be bad.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: So they are a very peaceful race that they desire only to work and meld in peace.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: The first one I don't I don't vibe with.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: The second one I'm not sure if I vibe with.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: They'll stop the world and meld with you.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Well, uh I I don't know if that's even what it is, but it sounded sexual to me.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I will go over what exactly melding is too.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, please.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Just uh just a bit.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Please do.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: It's not time for an outbreak yet.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: If they are forced to defend themselves, they will generally avoid killing whatever they're fighting if they can.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: They will pretty much just try to knock unconscious and then either like capture and release later or like drag them somewhere far away.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Until before they wake up.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Before they wake up.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: So they're just like, we're not gonna kill you, but go away.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: So please go away.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: You could say they're friendly mushrooms.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: They are friendly mushrooms.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're mushy giant friends.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Um it uh it says that violence adversely affects their meld hallucinations.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, there's hallucinations.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: I was I was hoping.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: I was hoping for hallucinations.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: I was hoping for hallucinations to make their way into the mushroom people episode.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: So between them and other humanoids of the Underdark, peace has never been met because both sides view the other one as just like a disgusting threat.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I could understand why their kind of ideals of like peace would not meld with the Drow's idea of world domination.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Of everything that the Drow do.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: And I can understand why the the the Drow probably, and you know, then there's like the abolished and the Ilithid down there too, and who knows what they're fucking doing.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Almost everything in the underdark is adversely opposed to each other.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: So they just view all the other races as disgusting, terrible, worse, like less than the other races view them as disgusting.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: It's horrible all the way down to the bottom.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Their society is based on an extremely tight social group that they call circles.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: Like druids.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Uh the circles are linked by work and melding sessions.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: A circle usually consists of 20 members.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Four of each hit dice size like one through five, basically.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: So like the younger ones are hit dice of one.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: And then the oldest are five.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Five, yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Gotcha, gotcha.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Um, as they grow, they continue to gain height and weight, gaining two feet of height with each hit dye.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: So one hit dye myconids are two feet, and then fives or ten.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Fives are ten, and there is one head die above five that is a six head dye, which is called the king, and he stands twelve feet tall.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Ooh, big boy.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Their days are structured rigidly around eight hours of rest, followed by eight hours of work, which their work consists of farming fungus and well, mostly just like fungus crops.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Is that weird for them?
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Like, uh Is that weird for them or no, it's actually not, surprisingly, because and this is actually not real expanded on until later in other editions, but basically what they do is they grow these fungi crops and then let them decompose and then eat the soil that they've decomposed in.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And that's how they get their nutrients because they are mushrooms.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: They they eat decomposition.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's that's fair.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, I just feel like if I had to farm like little guys made out of skin, it'd be weird for me.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, fair.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: I give you that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I'm going to assume that the fungi are at least a little bit different than them, I hope.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: It doesn't ever say otherwise, but I'm gonna hope.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: And like, don't get me wrong, this doesn't vibe with me very much, but it would to me kind of feel, I guess, like if you were raising and eating monkeys.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: Which, like, don't get me wrong, I don't love, and I realize I just said this to a vegetarian.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like well, no, that was my like initial thought, and then I was like, you know, okay, but you know, also it it doesn't vibe with me, but it's also like not blatantly cannibalism.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess you know, I hadn't even thought about cannibalism.
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: No, I thought that I thought that was the main issue.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: No, it's just kind of like uh well, it's like the whole thing with like um Goofy and Pluto.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Like, where's the line?
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: Sentience.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: I was asking rhetorically, Taylor.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: Anyway, I'm sorry.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Sorry, go on.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: So you have the eight hours of rest, then the eight hours of farming their fungus crops or other necessary needs to be done.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: And then they have eight hours of melding, which melding is what the fungoids is what they're called.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: They are fungoids.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: They all gather in a tight circle.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: The elder members will then release two different types of spores.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: You have a rapport spore.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: And then they release hallucinator spores.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: So it's a circle of spores.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: Ayyy.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: And then the circle will then merge into a collective telepathic hallucination for the next eight hours.
- 14:29unknown: Oh God.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: They consider this to be entertainment, worship, and social interaction all combined.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Sounds super like, uh, what's the word?
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: I'm thinking like good time management skills.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's efficient.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Efficient, maybe.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: It's eight hours of grand hallucination.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Um, I mean, that sounds like I mean, what's so special about it?
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: That sounds like what a lot of people do in their free time.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: So, like, cool.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: Also, I thought it was gonna go in a different direction.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: I thought it was a sexier direction.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Like a shunting direction.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: No.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: So that's pretty much what their melding is, is it's just a big circle of all of them telepathically hallucinating this giant hallucinatory dream.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: I feel like they should have picked a different word.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: I just feel like that's I don't know.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, I like it, but I just I just feel like it's suggestive of something else.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: So d is there a particular like usual thing that happens in this hallucinatory dream, or is it just kind of like whatever?
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: It never specifies, so I'm gonna assume it's just kind of a whatever.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Okay, like it's it's not described as being like their god comes down and speaks to them.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: So whatever.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: I will say I did get kind of because like it mentioned that like violence ruins their hallucinations.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: So I imagine that um it's kind of like uh at least directly inspired by like their memories and the events that they've seen.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, kind of like um like aboleth's um like living memories.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Like the living memories.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: They're pretty much that.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: I like I like that interpretation.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: So the way that they fight, they just curl up their fingers basically, and they use their fists as like clubbing like attacks.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: They also have the ability to spew cloud spores, basically, or clouds of spores, depending on which term you really want to use.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: But there are six different types of spores, and they're all like specialized.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: And depending on what age they are, or in this case what hit die they are, they'll have the ability to use different level ones.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Gotcha, gotcha.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: So starting off with like the first one that they all learn is distress.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: They're distress spores that they'll shoot out when they're being attacked or if there's any any any immediate danger.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: And it expands at a rate of 40 feet per round, and it's up to 120 feet, and it pretty much does what you would expect.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: It alerts other mycanids that this one or this group over here needs help.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: It's like um like like bees.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: It's their defense things, right?
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, some kind of some kind of insects do it.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Some kinds of insects do it.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty sure it's bees?
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: Bees question mark.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: I know grass does it.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, it does.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that freshly cut grass smell.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: It's the grass screaming in despair.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, they have reproducer spores.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Oh boy, here we go.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: Which are spores that are only emitted at proper time for growing new myconids.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Proper time.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: This allows for proper control of their population.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Uh huh.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: So they control their population to like an extreme degree.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, kind of like the uh the Sahuaga, a little bit.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Except it's um less violent, less eating each other.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: It it's less like fighting for resources and more just birth control.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Um if you will.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Automatically ejected by dying mycanids.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Ejected.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: So like when one dies, they release the reproducer spores that can then grow another one.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: To replace the one that just died.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, so it's like uh that there are then baby mycinids that come from this cloud of spores.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: It's not like an I'm horny cloud.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: No, it's they literally grow their own I thought it was like a pheromone, like, hey, hey, come fuck this.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: So come fuck this.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: No, it's literally spores that will like settle and then grow new mycinids.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: So they nope.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Moving on.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Uh rapport spores, which other than being used in the melting process, can be used to communicate with other species of mycinids because well, not just mycanids, to communicate with other species in general, because myconids have no spoken language.
- 19:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: They do not speak.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Do they have mouths?
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: No.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Do they just like sit their butts in the dirt and they communicate telepathically with each other?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, and then they just like the core spores they use to communicate with other species.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: How does that work?
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Uh basically it's the cloud spores will shoot out at whatever creature they're targeting.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: And if the creature decides to fight against it, they have to roll a check.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: And if they fail it, then they can telepathically communicate with the mycanid.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, so it's like uh it's like a it's like a barrow haze but for telepathy.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, gotcha.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: And its duration depends on the level of head dye of the myconid that uses it.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Precisely.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: So this is also what they release during their um orgies, excuse me, melding sessions.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Alongside their hallucinogenic spores.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Because I'm guessing the rapport spores helps to increase their telepathic powers so they can all be together in that in one mind.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, that makes sense.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: They have pacifier spores.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Which, when used, they cause the creature to become completely passive and unable to do anything at all.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Other than just observe.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Even if they get attacked, they still can't do anything.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: That is powerful.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, same basic principle, depending on the level of hit die, depends on like the duration.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, and I'm assuming you get saves against this kind of shit.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Um, I think so.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: I would hope so, because if not, like that pacifier scores.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Pacifier scores OP, please nerve.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, you do get saves against them.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: It's just first edition saves are weird.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Weird.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: And and sometimes I I think in some instances they forgot to like write that in.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: And then they were like, oh shit, we have to fix that.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: You have the Albear hugs.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Albear hugs.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: You have the hallucinator spores, which, other than the melding thing, can affect other creatures that are not myconids, and it's used basically to make that creature suffer violent hallucinations.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: For a number of turns equal to the hit die of the mycinid using it, the affected creature will react in one of four ways.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Using a d20.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Uh you have one through ten, which is cower whimpering.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Eleven through fifteen, which is just stare into nothingness.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: 16 to 18, they flee.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Shrieking in a random direction.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: And 19 to 20 attack the closest creature until they're dead or they're done hallucinating.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: See, my thought was that maybe like I just imagined a scenario where there's like a mycanid in like a party of adventurers and um like one of the like the human or or not not like non-myconid party members is like, hey, hey Dave, can you can you do the thing?
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: And then the mycanid's just like and they just like release like a bunch of hallucinogenic spores so their friend can get high.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: That was my first thought.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Oh man, that's great.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Because it causes violent hallucinations, not good ones.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Well, then the party barbarian.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: Then they can just have their violent hallucinations.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: They can just rage and not actually hurt anybody.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: But you know, may I mean maybe the myconid could like make it nice for somebody else, you know?
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: Like maybe they could control that a little bit.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: I mean maybe you could probably because I mean they could add that in yourself if you really wanted to.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: Because I mean they they release these hallucinogen explorers when they meld.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: So it's like So like they have some control over like if it's good or bad.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Well, they really don't because the hallucinogen explores affect myconids in only a positive way.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Oh it only affects them in a positive way.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Other creatures it affects negatively.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Unless uh they've been exposed to violence.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: And then it can it can detract the new care.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Okay, I I just really want someone to have a myconid friend and be like, hey, hit me.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: And my honestly, out of this entire list, this is my favorite type of spore.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Only the king can use it.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And it's called animator spores.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, I think I know where this is going.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: So the spores can be used to infect a dead person or animal.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: A purple fungus will cover the corpse and slowly take over the body and the body system, and then puts that body back to work, basically reanimating it.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Um it resembles a zombie and kind of acts like a zombie, but they're not considered to be undead, so you can't use turn undead or anything of the sort.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Oh smart.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Man, The Last of Us Three is weird.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: They are slower than they were in life, and they always would act last in combat.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: The body continues to decay, and then the purple fungus will gradually replace like missing parts and become specialized to take over that part's function.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: That's really cool.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Eventually the decay proceeds too far and too fast for the fungus to keep up, and the body will eventually stop functioning and just fail.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Usually the animation takes one to four days to actually fall apart.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Well, no, to infect after well, to like work after the initial infection.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: And the infection can last for two to five weeks before it decays completely.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: And that's how you get parasited.
- 25:06unknown: Hmm.
- 25:06unknown: Hmm.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Um, like I said earlier, the king is always like the largest member.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: And there's only ever one at a time.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: There's never more than one.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: And they are the only ones that are not actively a part of a circle.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Aww.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Because they have to remain impartial to everything.
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: So they cannot become a part of a circle.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Um, myconids actually regard separation from a circle to be like horrible.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: And they pity the king because the king is like lonely.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Leadership roles are thought to be like very unpleasant to myconids because of that fact.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And they almost considered a like condemnation.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's interesting.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: But despite all of this, when the king dies, the strongest of the five hit dime myconid will always assume the role of the new king.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like Primus.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: You you would like you just you have to.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: That's just the way it works.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: There's like there's not a choice.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like somebody's always moving up.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Be because they have uh such a strong um group first mentality.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Uh the king also is the one that provides like defenses by animating guardians for the colony.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: So that way the myconids don't have to actually commit violence.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: That does kind of suck for the king.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: They also practice fungal alchemy, which allows them to brew special potions that are useful in a time of trouble.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: And that is actually expanded later on.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: There was no further expansion of what potions they make.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: But that's just kind of like them in first edition.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: That's their first experience.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: Experience.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: The f the you know, DD's first experience with Mike and it's edition.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: And they didn't really appear in anything else until about 1992.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: Damn.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Uh coming back in Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition, or advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition, I guess.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: In the monster mythology book.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Um, this didn't offer a whole lot of like new changes to them specifically because they just kind of kept everything more or less the same.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Bro, don't fix that.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: A few things that they did add was the patron deity of the Myconid, whose name is Scyllafer.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Is he a big mushroom?
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Well, kind of.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So he is a meditator deity that dwells in Nirvana.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Meditator or mediator?
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Meditator.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: I hate to be like Yeah, no, I understand.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: You know, like like furries of hell again.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: But I often read the word mediator as meditator.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: So.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it actually said meditator deity because he's very meditative?
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: He lives in Nirvana.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: He is also a teach god.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Huh?
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: He basically doesn't do a whole lot of anything other than like teaching stuff.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: He's he's less of a He's a very laid-back god.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: He's more, yeah, he's not like a ruler type, like, I'm gonna exert my will on all these people and mushrooms.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: He's more like a let's just hang out, get in a circle, and read books and sing kumbaya kind of god.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: He was the one who taught the very first myconids the secrets of potion making.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Uh through what it said, direct revelation.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: You just woke up one day and you knew how to how to make potions.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: I'm guessing.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's all I'm taking from.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: That's all I got.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's all I'm taking from that.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: He is often depicted as a type of fungal world tree.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Uh his my okay, I think I'm pronouncing this right.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Mycelia.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: That sounds right.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Which is the uh I think that's right, yeah.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm gonna have to look up the definition again because it's been a minute.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Uh the mycelia is the vegetative part of a fungus, which is like the one that consists of all the like filaments and like the vine-like things.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Things that like spread downward.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: That you eat.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Kind of like the roots.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Kind of like their roots, yeah.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: So his uh mycilia reaches down through the plains into the home of the mycanid king.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: It's pretty much how he's depicted.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's cool.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like that.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: His only concerns are the protection of the mycanid race and the pursuit of perfection through meditation.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Big nirvana vibes.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: He is the one that hand well, not he is the one, sorry.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: He handpicks about one out of every twenty myconid king to become a priest.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: And will always guide the myconids in their selection of a new king through intuitive guidance.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: That's really cool.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: So one out of every twenty kings will be a priest and be able to directly communicate with him.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: More or less.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And there are only in like very rare cases where he will actually send an avatar to commune with the myconid king.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: This is usually if a community is like greatly threatened by an enemy or an event.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Like disease or whatever.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Something.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: What have you.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: His avatar usually appears as a gigantic mycanid with a vast mycelium complex drifting behind him.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so cool.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: As he travels by levitation just above the ground.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: That's so extra.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: He's usually blue-gray in color.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: He can change color to match his environment or his moods.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: He can use spells from all spheres of knowledge.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Knowledge and all schools.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: Nice, nice, nice, nice.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: And any king that communes with him, he grants the ability to have the same spell casting ability as he does for intents.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: 1d4 days.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: So the king will be able to mimic all of the spells that their god does.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Which are all of them.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: So do people who aren't myconds worship him?
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Because like you're down.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, I'm down.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: I didn't ever find anything that said as much.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: So probably not, but I mean you can always add that in.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Just roll up and be like, are y'all interested in converts?
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: I want to be a mushroom.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: I want to be a mushroom.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Make me a mushroom.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: So in the monstrous manual for second edition back in 1995, they appeared again.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Again, not a whole lot of changes.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: You still have the lawful neutral alignment, or in my case and my typing, the lawnful neutral alignment, apparently.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Because they're mushrooms.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: I didn't mean for that to happen, but hey, I like it.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it'd be that way.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Um, it describes them now as living in like the most remote reaches of the Underdark because they prefer to stay as far away from any other community as possible.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Man, everything lives in the most remote reaches of the Underdark.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, where where are the most populous regions?
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: I guess that's just all the drow.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: But like everybody else is literally like like the deep dragons, the abolhs, and my.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: That's all it said.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: Amazing.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad someone decided to give them toes.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: Evolution?
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, but that's that's fair.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: But like, at what point did they need toes that they then became vestigial?
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: I I don't know.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Someone has special feelings about toes, is all I'm saying.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Um I don't want to talk about it.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: They still have like, you know, no spoken language.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: They possess the same spore clot abilities, but there is a slight change in the way animator spores work.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Which is more or less just a very minor change.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Instead of being animated for two to five weeks, the bodies are animated for 1d4 plus 1 week.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: So it's in essence two to five weeks.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's in essence two to five weeks.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: It's just worded differently and now has the possibility to that you're actually roll for it instead of just like, I need this zombie to die right before this thing happens.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just a very minor change, and it's mostly just in the wording, but yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: It was still there.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: It's a change.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: They still deathly fear the sunlight.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Their structured hours are still the same.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Good for them.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: Sleep, farming, melding.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Sleep, farming, melding all the time.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: I need that kind of rigid rigid schedule in my life.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: All day, every day.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: In this, it says the the mica kids consider melding to be the reason for their existence.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Like, um in the broad, like um or like fake world, like their universal thing, their purpose.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: Maybe.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: I guess it literally just said that this is the reason for their existence.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: That's what they believe.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: I mean I'm gonna go with purpose.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what that's what I kind of took away from that, is that they they view that as like their purpose.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: I already said that.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: But yeah, okay.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, then that's fair.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: It also laid down the extra note that distress spores are the only thing that will bring a circle out of its meld before the eight hours is up.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: So if you come across a group of them and they're melding, you can try everything you want, but they will not snap out of it unless you can release distress spores.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: But also, like, if you know, one of their friends or whatever is being attacked, they won't just like ignore them for for good hallucinations.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they'll the spores will actually snap them out of it and they'll go to help.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: Good for them.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Kings are literally just the same.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, sad.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: It says that there are no recorded instances of disharmony or any sort of violence or disagreement like between myconids, like with each other, yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: So they all remain very they get along with each other.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, neutral with their inner species, I guess.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, I feel like the ability to read each other's like minds, like obviously you end up seeing eye to eye on a lot of things.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Um Hey, I mean, you know, I guess you you become closer as friends after you share hallucinations.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: I guess.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: Also, too.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: That too.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: It did go further into detail about exactly how like they view other humanoids and how most humanoids view them.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: So humanoids view mycanids as just ugly monsters.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: No.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: They just that's pretty much the gist of it, is just they view them as ugly monsters.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: While myconids view humanoids as a violent, insane species out to conquer anything in their path, destroy anything they can't conquer, then go back down the path to make sure there isn't anything they forgot to destroy or conquer.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: That sounds about right, yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's I mean they're not wrong.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: That's how I, a human, view other humans.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: They are not wrong.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: That's even more scathing than just like humans are just like, yeah, you're ugly.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: And my kids are like, you know what, we think of you.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: You don't want to know what we think of you.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: We have this whole list.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: That's scathing and detailed.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love it.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: They find it very difficult to believe humanoids are not going to immediately use violence against them, so they're very reluctant to deal with any of them.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Fucking fair.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: It does say that if they are approached with peace, there is a higher chance of them like communicating and helping out, though they will still remain suspicious of them the entire time.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: Fair.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: I don't disagree with the mic and its yeah.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: I yeah, they're not wrong.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: And this it says they prefer to find places near water, like isolated spots near water because of the dampness.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: So um, this is kind of cool though.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: They have word details that will sometimes like patrol the underdark that go looking for signs of battle or unburied dead.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: If they find any, they'll bring the dead back to the king so the king can animate it and use it as a guardian.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's fun.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: That is fun.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: So they're just recycling.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Be like the mycanids.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Go green.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: Their communities are arranged around moss-covered stones now.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's nice.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Uh the stones are where the mycanid will sit while melding and where they sleep.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, how do they sit?
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: I pictured them standing in a circle.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Like holding hands, you know?
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: That's kind of what I picture.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: No lord.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: No.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: I hope they hold hands.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: I want them to hold hands with each other while they meld.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: That's sweet.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: So it specifies now that they feed on water and small fungi and will always have a large garden area somewhere set up.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: I like their whole thing.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: I just want to go live with some mycinids.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: The king is will also get his ingredients for potions from the garden as well, so it kind of just helps everyone.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Dead myconid kings are buried with honor beneath the mounds, while dead mycanids are buried near the gardens.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: And see, this is where it says they grow fungi, which they then let decay and then feed from the nutrients in the soil.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: Wait, so if they bury regular mycanids near their their garden.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: They're basically eating them, yes.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: Just wanted to okay.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's a little bit of your friend in there.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, okay, I get what you're saying, but I guess I'm not weirded out because it's mushrooms and that's how mushrooms do.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, I'm not weirded out by it either, but that's also why they're just pointing it out.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: That's also why they don't bury the kings by the gardens.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: So they don't eat the kings.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: They're yeah, because they're buried with honor and they don't want to eat them.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, I j I'm just pointing it out.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: And I mean, yeah, there is something like beautiful and poetic about like, you know, essence and consuming the essence, and like that's kind of part of why the Sahwagan are so big about it.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: But like, I'm just pointing it out.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: Which one everyone knows technically cannibalism.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: We finally have a lifespan for them.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: Wait, no, hold on, hold on.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: What?
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: If you were buried in a garden and you fertilized the garden and I ate the vegetable, are you saying that would be cannibalism?
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: That's not cannibalism.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's not technically that's not cannibalism, but it's weird.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, don't get me wrong, it's weird.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna feel weird.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: I would feel weird, but I'm not a that I'm not a mushroom.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: And I'm sorry it continue.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: Anyway, I just wanted to point out that depending on your definition, you might consider that kind of like cannibalism.
- 41:15SPEAKER_02: Moving on.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Uh the lifespan is 24 years.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: That's specific.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: It requires four years to grow to each hit die.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Guys, if I was a miconid, I'd be dead.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: I would too.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: I would have just died.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: I would be too.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: I would have just died.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: The youngest, obviously, being four years at one hit die, and then the oldest is 20 years at five hit die.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: Minus the king, which requires a special regimen to reach the six-hit die level.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: A kingly regimen.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Um regimen.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: We have a expanded list of what exact potions the kings can brew.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: You have the potion of fungus growth, which is used in times of a population shortage, which increases the mycanid's hit die by one.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: So it's like just an accelerated growth hormone, basically.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Um, it can only be used on a mycanid once in its lifetime, so you can't like throw into from like one hit die to five.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Um, you have the potion of fungus healing, which only works on fungi and heals one d6 plus one health.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: The potion of the K, which affects a humanoid creature as if it were a dead creature infected with purple fungi spores.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Ooh, ooh, that's not good.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so for that, that creature.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: They can uh use that to basically infect a living humanoid and turn them into a fungus zombie.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's how you get parasect.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Ah, excuse me.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Uh the victim would roll a saving throw versus poison, dying on a failed save.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: Woo-hoo, woo-wee.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: And then the purple fungi spores would start taking effect and bring it back to life.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's a very um last resort type one.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: I feel like that would not be their first thought to do to somebody.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: See, now here's the thing that's a little weird.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Because it's specified that a cure disease spell will prevent the victim's death if it's cast within three minutes of the infection.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: So I guess it does take time for the infection to kill them.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: Which it didn't specify in the actual potion spell, but it kind of like offhandedly gives that three minute range.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's how that would have have to work.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, I guess like you would have to know that that could happen.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Someone just got infected and you would have Use it like almost immediately to let them not die.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: Just im imagine like your friend gets hit with that and you like use the cure disease spell on them, and it's like, okay, cool, you cured the fungal infection, but then they just drop dead.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: That would fucking suck.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: It also says a combination of cure disease and the raise dead spell will bring back victims of the fungus disease after 48 hours.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: So if they drop dead, you can cast cure disease and raise dead, and it will bring them back to life after 48 hours and kill the fungal infection at the same time.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: So you got I mean you got options.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: You have the powders of hallucination, which is exciting.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's used when uh hallucinate Wow.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: Hallucinogens?
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Hallucinatory spores are in short supply due to like the death of four and five head dye myconids because they're the only ones that can cast the hallucinator spores.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: And it's also used as a defensive measure.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: If the myconids are certain they're going to be attacked, they'll put the powder like bundled up and place them on a spider silk film inside of like the entrance to their circle.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I love it.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Creatures the size medium or larger will break the powder freeing and affect all creatures in a 20-foot radius.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: With hallucinatory spores.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 45:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, w would you say that it's a tripwire?
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Moving on.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Boo.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Hey, no, that one was good.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of proud of that one.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: Okay, you know what?
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: I'll give you props.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: It's my birthday.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Yep, I still give you the boo.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: And then you have the potion of anointment, which this is the special regimen that enables a five-hit dye myconid to grow into the six-hit die and become a king.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: The growth is immediate and painful.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Oof.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: And only affects a mycanid once.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: It's poisonous to humans, causing death on a failed saving throw when they drink it.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: And there is always one potion of anointment ready in the community.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: For if the king dies, they can immediately promote one and get a new king.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they kind of need that.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: And at this point, alchemists have found out that the myconid spores can be used to create poisons and potions of delusion.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: I wonder what would happen if a humanoid drank that, the potion of anointment.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: They would die.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: They would die.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: He just said that.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: It causes death.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: See, I think I was like zoning out thinking about that and didn't hear you say that.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: If uh if a human drinks it, it causes death.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: It's okay.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: I understand.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Like I like I I've been there where he says something.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I wonder what my my brain went to the Draco Lich's brew, which is like a thing like that, and I was like, I wonder what would happen if a human drank that.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: Death.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: Anyway, sorry.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: Death happens.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: Damn it.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: I was trying to find my fast track to becoming a mic and priest.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna go ahead and take a break real quick, because there's quite a bit more I have to go through.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: So this might end up being a bit longer than I had initially planned.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: It's okay.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: It's okay.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: It's alright.
- 47:32SPEAKER_03: I'm sure everyone will be okay with it.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: With more mushrooms.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: But when we come back, I found something in Drist Do Erden's Guide to the Underdark, which we have come across this name so many times.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have to research him at some point.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, we we have discussed that like we're going to, it's just going to take a lot of like prep.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: But let's take our break.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: I can get some more water, and uh we will talk about Drist Do Erden's guide when we come back.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: Alrighty.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Hey everybody, thank you for listening to this episode on Micah Nids.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, just gonna do our ad break really quick.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: Because this is a long boy.

- 51:06SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: We would also really appreciate you guys continuing to help us spread the word.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: We I mean, it you're amazing.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: Yes, thank you.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: Alexander Nakarada is also amazing, and he did our theme song Blacksmith.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:19SPEAKER_02: Good song.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: And with that, we rush back to the mushrooms.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: To the mushrooms! To the mushrooms.
- 51:25SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: So um real quick, Travis did tell me that we cannot uh we don't have time.
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: We don't have time.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: So we don't have time for commentary or magic mushroom drug jokes.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: So we're just gonna go.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna have to breeze through some of these notes because we are running out of time.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: So there probably won't be a whole lot of extra commentary here, and I apologize about that.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: So, mushrooms.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Dristo Urden's Guide to the Underdark, which was made for second edition in 1999.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: There's not a lot about the Myconids, uh, but there was a part that was very interesting.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Uh Drist was, you know, the male ranger that like forsook all of his people and became a hero.
- 52:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Um, apparently there is a oasis that is lit by glowing fungus and filled with edible plants, fish, and a herd of Rothay, which are large beasts that resemble like musk oxen.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: And this place is called the Oasis of the Stone King.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: Drist actually lived here for a small amount of time with a small community of myconid.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: Dream.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: So this place is split into two different parts.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: You have the lower level, which is a moss-filled bed crossed by a small stream, and then the upper level is a grove of towering mushrooms.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: Beautiful.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Black reach.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Moving on.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Directly in front of the chamber's main entrance, there is a 12-foot-tall statue of a mycanid king.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Except it's not a statue.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: It was a mycanid king that got petrified by the gaze of a basilisk.
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: Holy shit.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: That's so cool.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: And Drist actually wound up killing that basilisk a little later.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Nice, nice, nice, nice.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Um, it says the myconids were wiped out by the spirit wraith Zochnophine soon after Drist left.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, side note, Zochnophine was actually Drist's father.
- 53:28unknown: Oh.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: And was a famed weapons master of the House of Do Erden.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: Wow, there's layers.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: There's just layers upon layers.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: There are so many layers.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: But that was about it that was listed there.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: I just thought that the Oasis of the Stone King was kind of cool.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: No, it really is.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: That sounds like a a place I'd like to hang out for real.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: So going into Underdark, uh third edition from 2003, myconids are not specifically mentioned by name, but there's a place that was called Aramycos in the Underdark that was said to house numerous fungal creatures.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: And most people seem that there was at least some myconids that lived there.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: Um, Aramycos is actually a huge fungal growth, the size of a kingdom, and is a single living creature.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Oh it begins at a depth of one mile under the surface and ends at a depth of three miles.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's he's a big boy.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: Very big.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: Um, it is thought to be the oldest living thing in Toro, though the gods of Ferun do not speak of it, and any divine divination regarding it will always fail.
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: That's so cool.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: I wish I had more time for commentary.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: I know, that's insane, actually.
- 54:45SPEAKER_03: I'm like, it's okay.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: Um, its sentience is debatable between a lot of people, but it is at least sentient enough that it will sometimes lash out at intruders.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 54:58SPEAKER_01: Able to choke them with deadly poisons, dominate them with insidious spores, or attack them with mobile manifestations that resemble various like slimes and oozes.
- 55:10SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, um, it can also attack psionically.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Its psionic powers are unmatched.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: It pretty much said that any creature that goes into a psionic battle with this thing is a dumbass and is gonna die.
- 55:26SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 55:27SPEAKER_02: Underground psychic mushroom?
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: The fungal colonies actually live inside of its body.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's it's a giant peach.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: Um, there's a place called Fluvenilstra.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: Fluvanilstra?
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: Which is known as the garden city of the lower dark.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: And the myconids serve as defenders here.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: And I know what a lot of people are thinking, they're defenders, they can't like act violently.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's kind of again.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: So how are they the defenders?
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: Well, mycanids make up only about four percent of the population, which is about 9,200.
- 56:09SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 56:10SPEAKER_01: And this is where we learn of a different ability that myconids have.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: They spend most of their time in the center of the city, standing in compost and humming quietly.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: Creepy.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: This they do in order to control Fluvanilstra's most impressive line of defense.
- 56:32SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 56:32SPEAKER_01: Which are lower dark variations of shambling mounds, phantom fungi, assassin vines, and roper-like plant monsters.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: Holy shit.
- 56:43SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 56:45SPEAKER_03: Ah.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: So they can basically summon Eldritch plant monsters.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: Not summon control.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: Control.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: They were already there.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: The roper-like plant monsters are the ones that guard the main entrances, while the other ones patrol the city.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: They never bother residents, but will relentlessly attack any other creature that enters the garden city.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: Holy shit.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: That's so cool.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: What's the fun?
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: Micanids are powerful, man.
- 57:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:14SPEAKER_01: Uh Monster Manual 2 for third edition.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: It actually finally tells us that they do have eyes, which I mean we all kind of figured.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's pictures.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: The eyes uh are in their caps and are also perfectly concealed when they close them.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: So, like if they close their eyes, they're just completely concealed.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: You can't see their eyes.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, it says their hands are now said to have a random number of fingers and thumbs rather than the two and one.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: And occasionally an individual with more than two arms or legs can pop up.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, huh.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: So you can have a multi-limbed fungal monster walking around.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: Sounds good.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: For the first four years of their life, they resemble giant toadstools and are completely immobile.
- 58:09SPEAKER_01: Aww.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: After four years of age, they actually like grow their limbs and become mobile.
- 58:15SPEAKER_01: Aww.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: They are listed as usually lawful neutral.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 58:21SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's the trend in third edition and 3.5 is to to maybe change some things from always XYZ to usually XYZ.
- 58:31SPEAKER_02: Because I feel like that kind of expands the possibilities for people a little bit.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: Gives you the ability to say that the society is this way, but the individual may not be.
- 58:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:41SPEAKER_03: I want a chaotic stone or myconid.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Moving on.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Um they do still have their spore abilities.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: There were a few more changes that popped up, most of them just because of like how the rules change throughout the editions.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: You have like the rapport spores that now last 30 to 60 minutes with outsiders, but only eight hours with like other myconids.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Instead of it being one solid number, it's different depending on which makes sense.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: The pacification spores cause a creature to become passive for one minute.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: And in third edition, being passive is similar to being dazed, but the target can still take partial actions that don't involve attacking.
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: So they're not just standing there, they can do partial actions, but they still can't attack.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: I mean less OP.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: Thank you for nerf.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: Thank you for nerf.
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: Uh hallucination spores duplicate the effects of a confusion spell for one hour.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: Uh the spell rolls randomly from one to ten on a D10.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: One causes them to wander away for one minute.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: Two to six, they do nothing for one round.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Seven to nine, they attack the nearest creature for one round.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: Or ten, they will act normally for one round.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: So for the duration, you just kinda roll each thing.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gotcha.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Uh the animation splores virtually do the same thing, taking over the body, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_01: But the animation now lasts just 1d6 weeks.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: And at the end of it, instead of the body just falling dead, it just disintegrates into dust.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, nice.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: That's that's kind of cool.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: Instead of just going by the size and head dive, third edition added titles to each level of my commid.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Yes, they did.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: Ah.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: So starting from lowest, you have the junior workers, the average workers, elder workers, guard, the circle leader, and then the sovereign, which is the king renamed.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I mean That sounds cooler.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_02: Well, for one, yeah, that sounds super fucking cool.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_02: And also, like, they're mushrooms.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_02: They're mushrooms that reproduce with like spores.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: I don't know how much they care about gendered titles.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: Legitimately.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_02: Like, let's be real with ourselves.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_02: Also, could you imagine, like, be like, hi, I'm an average worker, like mood, but mood, but that just sounds kind of bad.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Um, the sovereigns can now brew potions that mimic various cleric and druid spells.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: Sort of like, you know, bull strength, cure serious wounds, invisibility to animals, yeah, gotcha.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: Stuff like that.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: Um, they are said to know everything there is to know about fungus.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: So if you need to know in-depth details about fungus, go talk to them.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: Noted.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: Where can I get lobster mushrooms for cheap?
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: They can also make various items from fungus, but they're mostly only useful for myconids.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_01: Or for me and my animal crossing town.
- 1:01:40unknown: Probably.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: So we have a variant that was introduced in Expedition to Undermountain, which is a third edition um adventure module.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_01: And it's called the Myconid Venom Spore.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: For this, they're changed to well, this variant is changed to being lawful evil, six feet tall with a bright red cap.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: Sickly yellow spots, and pale milks stalk of a body, basically.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_03: You have any of mad caps.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: You held you held on the word milks for the case.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was I was my brain was trying to process that sentence.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: Please don't I don't actually want to hear about mushroom milk.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: Please.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Um, the spore abilities, they have they have distress, reproduction, rapport, but now they have venom spores, which causes creatures to become extremely ill and incapacitates them.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: And it really just becomes they become nauseated for two D4 rounds if they fail their saving throw.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_01: Which nauseation is different in third edition, so they're kind of incapacitated.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, sometimes it'd be that way.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: Now, these particular types of mycanids, they added a backstory as to how they came about, were the direct result of Halister Black Cloak's death.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: Uh Halister Black Cloak was a powerful mage that lived in the Undermountain.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, gotcha.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, when he died, his body was incinerated, and his soul was ripped into hundreds of fragments.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: Which is kind of what the module is based around is like figuring out what happened and I think finding like the soul fragments.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, fair fair.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: But when he died, it released a wave of powerful magic that warped some of the mycanids into these Venom spore versions.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_03: Or was he doesn't sound like a good guy.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: Well, he kind of was a good guy.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_01: I didn't look a whole lot into him, but he was kind of a good guy.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: He was at the very least neutral guy.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_02: Fucking mages.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_02: Fucking shit up.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I like I mean, not even doing experiments intentionally, but he's still fucked up.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_01: Because he actually wound up dying when he was trying to cast a certain spell, I think, for like protection of the Undermountain, but the spell went wrong and it exploded and incinerated him, basically.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, that sucks.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: But these things weigh as much as 300 fucking pounds, though.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of that's a dense mushroom.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: That's a dense mush.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: And now, unfortunately.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_01: I come to the part that I dreaded the most.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: We all knew it was coming.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, we can skip this as a time saver, right?
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, we can't because I have to show my displeasure in this.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_01: And Monster Manual 2 for 4th edition.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: They changed everything.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_01: Completely changed everything for Mike and Ids.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_01: He has his hands on his head.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: So now they are said to be insidious fungal menaces from the Feywild caverns that polluted the Femorians.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_02: What?
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Or I'm sorry, polluted by the Femorians.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: So they're fungal menaces that came from the Feywilds and now live in the Underdark.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, okay, fair.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_02: You know, unlike Feywild, Mike, and it's, I feel like that could be a fun idea.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_02: Like that could be fun.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but not they're not menace.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_02: Someone on the fourth edition writing staff doesn't like mushrooms.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_02: And they feel the need to be a butthole about it.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_02: Mushrooms are delicious.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_01: They also strive only to spread across their territories, contaminating those places with their presence.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: Like they criticize humanoids for.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: But they took that, that was the myconoid criticism of humanoids.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: And made applied the Oh my god.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_01: They are unaligned.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_02: No, not at all.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_01: Um they strive to expand their territory and numbers.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_01: Even though they are also written as non Necessarily evil.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_02: Well, and also like the the whole contrast with like their whatever, whatever.
- 1:06:07unknown: Okay.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: Fourth edition, you try to you try too hard, fourth edition, you try so hard.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: They are from the Feywild, but prefer the Underdark and the Shadow Dark to their like home plane.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Well, but okay.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: Also, other races can now grow them and they cultivate them for cheap labor or to enslave them.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_02: That's okay.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_01: Dressed Famorians and Shadarkai command myconids in great numbers, apparently.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: Stupid.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_01: Alright, alright, stupid.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: Um, they don't appear to really have any of the same spore abilities that they had before, I think except for one sort of similar thing.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: All myconids, except for the sovereign, communicate with each other by releasing spores that convey raw emotions, such as like fear, satisfaction, desire, whatever.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: Instead of communicating telepathically.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, like that could be interesting.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_03: That could be interesting, but whatever.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, alright.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_03: You you lose points for everything else.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_01: Um a community sovereign is the only one that can communicate with other types of creatures using telepathy now.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: That one's stupid.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: That's that is stupid.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: And there are three types.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_01: The Rot Priest, Sovereign, and Guard.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, Rot Rot Priest is a cool title.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_03: But we'll give you Rot Priest is cool.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_01: It is it is a cool title.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_01: Well, and Yep.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_01: The Rot Priest is a healer, having the ability to heal 10 hit points to a living creature.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_01: Um, they have the ability to either split damage they take to another ally within five feet of it, or to flat out take all of the damage for an ally.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_01: Fun.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_01: Um, side note on that, all the other variants have that ability too.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, great.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Less weird.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: Um they have regeneration of five hit points per round, and they use a quarter staff as a weapon.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, fun.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: I do like that.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: Sovereigns are, you know, still the leaders.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: They have a spore burst that affects targets within a close blast radius that deals one d8 plus three poison and dazes the target until the end of the sovereign's next turn.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: So sort of similar to their spore effects before.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: Sort of.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_03: But not as cool.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_01: Um they can command one plant within five feet to shift a square.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, that also includes the other myconids.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: So they can kind of just control their pawns, basically.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_01: Um, like I said, they also have the ability to split the damage or take the well, no, actually, I'm sorry.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: Let me take that back.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_01: They only have the ability to split damage between itself and another ally.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_02: They can't take it.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: They can't take it, but they can split it.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_01: So instead of like taking ten, they would take five, the other would take five.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fair.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_01: Uh guards, which are literally just guards, they're the protectors of the colony.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_01: Frontline infantry.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: They have the pacification spore ability.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_01: Which causes the target to not be able to take a standard action until the end of the guard's next turn.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: But can still take other actions.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_02: And and it's per fourth edition.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: It sounds like none of these are are are created or or framed in a way that makes a difference in these creatures like actual like society and things like that.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_02: It's it's literally just for combat.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_02: It's just for combat.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_02: Which I oh I hate never mind.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna get on a rant.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna I'm I'm just pointing that out.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_01: They also possess the ability to split the damage.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: So the raw priest is the only one that can take the damage, but everyone else can split the damage.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because you want your healer to take damage from you.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: They can heal themselves and they regenerate.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's fair.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_03: They're they're kind of a healing tank.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're just a damage.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_03: Like, don't get don't get me wrong, there's l a ton to hate here.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_03: I will give them a pass on the rock priest.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_01: That's that's what I want my future drop title to be.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: And thankfully, and also not thankfully, I guess, that's kind of all the information that they put forth and fourth edition for these mycanids.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: Per fourth edition.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_01: For anything that isn't adrenaline.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_01: Not a whole lot of expanded nonsense, thankfully.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: So now we're gonna get to Monster Manual of 5th edition.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_04: Yay!
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_01: Um, they are back to being intelligent fungi that seek enlightenment and deploy violence instead of what fourth edition made them.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_03: Good, good.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_03: Thank God.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_01: Um, if approached peacefully, it actually says that the mycanids will now gladly provide shelter or allow safe passage through their colonies.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_01: Sovereigns preside over now not just one, but they can preside over more than one circle.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_01: Circles consist of 20 or more myconids, so their numbers are a bit or can be a bit higher, I suppose.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: Um, mycanids can use their rapport spores to talk telepathically with other sentient creatures, so all myconids can do it now.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_01: They've reverted back to that, thankfully.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_01: To, you know, their original use.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's specified that a creature that was never flesh and blood, like uh construct or an elemental, cannot be turned into a spore servant from the animation spores.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that was ever like an issue that people ran into in their games from like the older editions because it never specified you couldn't turn a construct into a servant, but now they specified you cannot.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_03: Okay, that makes sense.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_03: I got it.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_03: Like I'm I'm okay with it.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_01: The spores abilities are a bit different in this edition.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: Um, again, trending with the changing of how certain things work.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_01: The stress spores are now just a passive ability that all myconids possess.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_01: And when they take damage, all other mycanids within twel within 240 feet of it can like sense its pain.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_01: So it's like a telepathic link now instead of like an actual spore cloud.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: Uh the rapport spores are a 10-foot radius uh that can go around corners and only affects creatures with an intelligence of two or higher.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: And they can communicate telepathically while they are within 30 feet of each other, and it lasts for one hour.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: Just all around.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_01: Pacifying spores uh can now be shot at like one single creature within five feet, and then it's a failed constitution throw, they are stunned for one minute.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_02: Rather than like uh just a cloud.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's now like a single target thing.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_03: I'm with it.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_01: Um they can also, like with many other spells, repeat the save at the end of their turn to end the effect.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: Hallucination spores kind of got changed to the same.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: It's one creature within five feet, and on a failed save, they're poisoned for one minute.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: While poisoned, the creature is in capacitated while it hallucinates.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_01: And can also attempt to end it at the end of each round.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: But they'll be hallucinating and incapacitated until they do.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, they didn't explicitly say it was like violent or bad hallucinations.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: No, this one it just said that they are incapacitated while they hallucinate.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_01: So it could be good hallucinations.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_02: But it could be up to the micinid.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_02: So, like, hey Dave, hit me.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_02: Hit me with those spores.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_01: Uh they're animated spores.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_01: The corpse now rises after 24 hours as a servant and stays animated for 1d4 weeks.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, small variations in that.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_01: Um, this one, it the corpse will just fall dead after that time, and the corpse can't be reanimated by the spores again.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: Um, thankfully, they're back to their original lawful neutral alignment.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_01: And we have a explanation to their fear of the sun.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_01: Oh yes, okay.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: They have a passive, it's not an ability, it's just a passive effect trait.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, which is called sun sickness, which gives them disadvantage on ability checks, saving throws, and attack rolls while in direct sunlight.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_01: And if they spend more than one hour in direct sunlight, they die.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_03: So we were kind of right.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: Like, well, and the the first part of that, I feel, is exactly how it is like for Drow.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_01: No, Drow don't die in the sunlight, but they just have disadvantage on their checks.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_01: Um, there's only three levels of mycanids now.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_01: They condensed it down to three instead of like six.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_01: Um, each now ranging from small, medium, and large in size.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_01: Going in order, you have the sprout, which can use the rapport spores, adult, which can use the pacifying and rapport spores, and then sovereign, which can use all four.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_02: Such a cute word, sprout.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_01: I love sprouts and while they no longer have the poisonous bodies, it says that all of their melee attacks do extra poison damage.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_01: So you can touch a myconid without getting poisoned, but if they attack you, you're gonna get poisoned.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_02: You're gonna get poisoned.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_02: There's a special selection of people in the world that were very happy with that change.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm just pointing that out.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: And naturally the damage increases when you go from like a sprout to an adult to a sovereign.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_01: And this was this was just the thing that I noticed.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_01: Despite how strong they sound, their challenge rating is actually quite low, with a challenge rating of two being the highest for the sovereign.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: That's not very putting that in perspective.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_01: I think if I did the math right, if I were to throw like our our our projectile dysfunction group into a myconid fight, in order to make it deadly, like the deadly rating, it would be like one sovereign, three or four adults, and then like six sprouts.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: Damn.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_01: Something similar to that would make it technically considered deadly for your group.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's not very no.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_01: Now, of course, that's not like taking into the account of like the spore abilities, but you really only have to worry about the hallucination and pacifying spores, more or less.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, because those are the other ones are kind of just for for them.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_01: For them.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: So even then, I would still say that a deadly encounter would be at the most like the one sovereign, and you could probably throw in like five or six adults to make a deadly.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_01: But it's they're really not that high of a challenge rating.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_01: Like I initially thought, and then I looked at their grading and I was like, oh.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_03: For cla for clarification, the maximum challenge rating I can get, which I like as a druid shape to wild shape is one.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_03: And like that is very, very low, um, because there's a specific subclass that specializes in wild shape.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and let me actually pull up one of the I'm literally Googling, like Yeah, let me pull up one of the CR1, um, a brown bear, uh, a lion, a giant spider.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_02: Um these that's like the challenge rating of wormling of a number of wormlings, giant constrictor snake, gelatinous cube, uh polar bear, uh plesiosaurus, a swarm of poisonous snakes, um, a will-o-wisp, a a rhinoceros.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_02: A rhinoceros.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_02: I'm really just a mimic, just a giant toad.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_02: A just a standard mimic.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_02: Um, a gargoyle.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_01: Now that being said, the explanation that I can logically think of for this is they're not a violent race, so they're not adept to combat.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: It's just by like reading it, I was like, oh, these are probably like a high, at least in like the teens of a challenge rating.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_01: Apparently not.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_02: I I don't know if I agree with that decision personally.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, I will say at first I was on your side until he mentioned what he said about them not being a violent race.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_03: They're better at like probably they're probably a lot better at like getting you unconscious and fleeing.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_01: Because that's more or less what they rely on, because they're still not gonna kill you.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_01: Even if they could.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if they can help it, they're not gonna kill you.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_01: They're just gonna try to incapacitate you and either running or getting you away.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what?
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_02: That's that's fair.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_02: Maybe still not a two, though.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_03: I mean I mean, well, we can agree to disagree.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, maybe like a three.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_03: I'm willing to agree to that.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_03: You just didn't like it being a two.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_02: I just like the number three better.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what?
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_02: Okay, alright.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's because I mean, believe it or not, fourth edition, there are like aspects of Dungeons and Dragons that don't necessarily have to do with combat.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_01: So that's fair.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_01: The Sovereigns like max HP taking from what they have is 8d10, so 80 plus 16, so 96 is their max HP.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_01: So they are like beefy.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_01: It's just as far as like damaging you goes, it's like not really that high.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_01: Like their yeah, their fist is their only weapon, and its damage is 3d4 plus 1.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_01: Plus 3d4 poison damage.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_02: And everyone knows you can't have uh a lot of HP and high damage output.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_01: But other than that, that is all I have.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_01: On Mike and Eds.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_01: They're amazing.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_02: I I want to go live in a commune of Mike and Eds.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_02: It it's and worship their god whose name I forgot.
- 1:20:49SPEAKER_02: It was a great that's a great start in my new religion.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_01: It's it was a fun thing to research, honestly.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed it.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_01: Mushroom people.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_01: Mushroom people.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_01: Meeple.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, meeple.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_01: Meeple.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_01: Meeple.

- 1:21:14SPEAKER_02: It happens.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_03: It it's okay.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_01: Time restrictions are a thing sometimes, and I got a little carried away with research.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was enjoying it, honestly.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean, that's that's that's good.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_02: You know, we we we you love to see it.

- 1:21:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's progress.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_01: That is progress.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_01: I'm surprised, especially with the whole friendly mushroom thing.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, this is progress, guys.
