- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:06Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am Mike D.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Thank you for listening, thank you for being here, and
- 0:17Speaker 1: as always, I appreciate the love. Today I want to
- 0:20Speaker 1: talk about something that I think almost every one of
- 0:23Speaker 1: us can relate to. Something that can change your mood
- 0:26Speaker 1: in a matter of seconds. Something that can bring back
- 0:29Speaker 1: a memory you haven't thought about in 20 years. Something
- 0:33Speaker 1: that can make you smile when you're having a terrible day.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And sometimes something that can help you get through the
- 0:38Speaker 1: toughest moments of your life. I'm talking about music. You know,
- 0:44Speaker 1: I've always believed that music is more than just something
- 0:46Speaker 1: we listen to. I've always believed that music is therapy.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It can be therapeutic. And you don't need a prescription
- 0:53Speaker 1: for it. You don't need an appointment. You don't have
- 0:56Speaker 1: to sit on somebody's couch. Sometimes all you need is
- 1:00Speaker 1: a pair of headphones, a quiet room, and a song
- 1:02Speaker 1: that speaks to you. Think about it. Have you ever
- 1:06Speaker 1: had a bad day? Maybe work didn't go the way
- 1:09Speaker 1: you wanted. Maybe somebody said something that hurt you. Maybe
- 1:13Speaker 1: you're dealing with financial problems. Maybe you're lonely. Maybe you're
- 1:16Speaker 1: just mentally exhausted. And you get in your car, turn
- 1:20Speaker 1: the music up, and suddenly for three or four minutes,
- 1:22Speaker 1: the world feels a little bit different. The problems haven't disappeared,
- 1:27Speaker 1: but somehow you feel like you can handle them. That's
- 1:30Speaker 1: one of the amazing things about music. It can give
- 1:33Speaker 1: us a break from what's going on around us. Music
- 1:36Speaker 1: has a powerful connection to our emotions. A fast song
- 1:40Speaker 1: can make you want to move. A slow song can
- 1:43Speaker 1: calm you down. A powerful song can make you feel strong,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and a sad song can sometimes make you cry. But
- 1:50Speaker 1: here's the interesting part. Sometimes crying is exactly what we need.
- 1:55Speaker 1: We don't always need somebody to tell us, don't be sad.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Sometimes we just need permission to feel what we're feeling.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And music can give us that permission. You hear a
- 2:06Speaker 1: song and think, wow, somebody else understands exactly what I'm
- 2:09Speaker 1: going through. Maybe the singer is talking about heartbreak. Maybe
- 2:13Speaker 1: they're talking about losing somebody. Maybe they're talking about struggling.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Maybe they're talking about getting back up after being knocked down.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And you realize, I'm not the only one. That's powerful.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Music also has this incredible ability to take us back
- 2:29Speaker 1: in time. You can hear a song you haven't heard
- 2:31Speaker 1: in years and suddenly you're 18 again. You remember the
- 2:35Speaker 1: car you were driving. You remember who you were dating.
- 2:38Speaker 1: You remember your friends. You remember where you were. You
- 2:41Speaker 1: remember what life was like. It's almost like music is
- 2:45Speaker 1: a time machine. One song can bring back an entire
- 2:48Speaker 1: chapter of your life. And sometimes those memories are beautiful,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and sometimes they're painful. But either way, they're part of
- 2:55Speaker 1: our history, and music helps us remember. Now here's another
- 3:00Speaker 1: reason I believe music can be therapeutic. Sometimes we don't
- 3:04Speaker 1: have the words. Have you ever had something inside of
- 3:07Speaker 1: you that you couldn't explain? You know, you're feeling something.
- 3:11Speaker 1: but you don't know how to put it into words.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Then you hear a song, and suddenly the lyrics say
- 3:16Speaker 1: exactly what you've been thinking. You think, that's it. That's
- 3:20Speaker 1: exactly how I feel. Music can speak for us when
- 3:24Speaker 1: we don't know what to say. And that's especially important
- 3:27Speaker 1: when we're going through difficult times, because keeping everything bottled
- 3:31Speaker 1: up inside isn't always healthy. Sometimes you need an outlet.
- 3:36Speaker 1: For some people, that outlet is talking. For somebody else,
- 3:39Speaker 1: it's writing. For another person, it's working out. And for
- 3:43Speaker 1: some of us, it's music. There's also something incredibly calming
- 3:48Speaker 1: about listening to the right music. You can have a
- 3:51Speaker 1: million thoughts running through your head. You can put on
- 3:54Speaker 1: your favorite song, you can close your eyes, you can
- 3:57Speaker 1: take a breath, and you just listen. And for those
- 4:00Speaker 1: few minutes, you're not thinking about tomorrow. You're not worrying
- 4:04Speaker 1: about yesterday. You're just right there in the moment. And
- 4:08Speaker 1: sometimes that's all we need. A few minutes where we're
- 4:11Speaker 1: not trying to fix everything. We're just existing. Now, I
- 4:16Speaker 1: want to be clear about something. Music isn't going to
- 4:18Speaker 1: magically solve every problem. If you're going through something serious,
- 4:23Speaker 1: music isn't a replacement for professional help or talking to
- 4:27Speaker 1: someone you trust. But music can be part of the process.
- 4:32Speaker 1: It can help you cope. It can help you process emotions.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It can help you feel connected. It can give you strength.
- 4:38Speaker 1: And sometimes it can simply remind you that you're still here.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And there's something incredibly powerful about that. I think everybody
- 4:48Speaker 1: has that one song. Maybe it's a song that reminds
- 4:51Speaker 1: you of somebody you love. Maybe it's a song that
- 4:54Speaker 1: reminds you of where you've been. Maybe it's a song
- 4:57Speaker 1: that motivates you. Or maybe it's a song you blast
- 5:00Speaker 1: when you're driving down the road and just need to
- 5:02Speaker 1: let everything out. For me, There's something special about those songs.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You don't just hear them. You feel them. And that's
- 5:11Speaker 1: the difference. Music isn't just sound. It's an emotion. It's memory.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's energy. It's connection. It's life. Think about it. Think
- 5:22Speaker 1: about concerts. You've got thousands of people who don't know
- 5:26Speaker 1: each other. Different ages, different backgrounds, different lives. But when
- 5:30Speaker 1: that band starts playing that song, everybody knows. Everybody sings together.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And for those minutes, everybody is connected. That's another kind
- 5:39Speaker 1: of therapy. Because human beings need connection. We need to
- 5:42Speaker 1: feel like we're part of something. And music can relate
- 5:46Speaker 1: that feeling. So how many out there listening feel like
- 5:53Speaker 1: music is therapy? Feel like music is therapeutic? And how
- 5:56Speaker 1: many of you have that special song where you're having
- 6:01Speaker 1: a bad day, you've had a bad day at work,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Your wife's making you mad. Your husband's making you mad.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Maybe you're feeling a little sad. Maybe you're feeling a
- 6:10Speaker 1: little depressed. Or maybe you just want to relax and
- 6:13Speaker 1: put on your headphones and listen to that song. How
- 6:16Speaker 1: many of you put your headphones on or sit in
- 6:20Speaker 1: your car and just go back to a different time
- 6:25Speaker 1: and just remember the good old times? Remember that car
- 6:30Speaker 1: you were driving? Maybe you remember who you were with.
- 6:33Speaker 1: You remember how you were feeling. And all of a sudden,
- 6:36Speaker 1: you're transported back to that time. That's the beauty and
- 6:40Speaker 1: power of music. That's why I believe music is therapy. Anyhow,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I greatly appreciate all of you being here. I greatly
- 6:52Speaker 1: appreciate all of you listening. And I will see you
- 6:57Speaker 1: all in the next one. Peace! Thank you.
