- 0:18hello everyone and welcome to the after ever
- 0:20after podcast the show where we take a look at
- 0:22disney sequels to truly see what life is like
- 0:24after ever after my name is andy and with me
- 0:28as always is james hi oh my god it's been so
- 0:32long i know it's been a nice little break but
- 0:35i'm glad to get back in the swing of us yeah
- 0:37i've missed it like it was nice to have a little
- 0:40bit of a break But I've missed talking to you.
- 0:43I've missed reviewing. I've missed our wonderful
- 0:47audience of three people. But yeah, I've missed
- 0:53it. I've been itching to get back into the seat.
- 0:57I couldn't be more excited because we're talking
- 1:00about... What are we talking about, Andy? 101
- 1:04Dalmatians today. Two Patches London Adventure.
- 1:10Patch's Revenge. Without the Santa Claus in the
- 1:15middle, we've got two dog films in a row. So
- 1:18when we finished recording Lady and the Tramp
- 1:212, which was called Scamp's Adventure, and we
- 1:26did not like it at all. And then we looked at
- 1:28what was next, and it was a film called Patch's
- 1:30Adventure, or Patch and Slytherin's Adventure.
- 1:32I think we both felt so drained. Like just the
- 1:37idea of having to do another one of those quality
- 1:41movies. As soon as it was like child of the main
- 1:45dog adventure or revenge or whatever, I was like,
- 1:50I don't want to do this at all. On the flip side,
- 1:54I do love 101 Dalmatians. So I've got like high
- 1:57hopes, but I'm like cautiously optimistic about
- 1:59it. I agree. I really like 101 Dalmatians. I
- 2:02think it's a lovely film. And I did re -watch
- 2:05it for this one because as always, when I think
- 2:09that I've watched one, most likely I haven't.
- 2:13And I would say... that this one is the one that
- 2:17I remembered the most, apart from a couple of
- 2:20parts. We do like to, as always, before we jump
- 2:23into the film of the week, we like to look at
- 2:27the Disney films that weren't so lucky to continue.
- 2:30We like to go through all the Disney films in
- 2:32chronological order, so following Lady and the
- 2:33Tramp. Before 101 Dalmatians, there was another
- 2:36film, so let's dive into what we like to call
- 2:39Before Ever Before. We are. The trains are going.
- 2:51And we're steaming past. What film are we steaming
- 2:57past? Well, we've just left Lady and the Tramp,
- 3:00which obviously had the sequel. It had some comic
- 3:02books and nothing much. It had the live -action
- 3:05remake, which was panned. particularly badly
- 3:10horrendously oh it was terrible I hated that
- 3:13movie it was a Disney plus launch title thing
- 3:16and it was just no good but following Lady and
- 3:20the Tramp Disney made Sleeping Beauty which is
- 3:24I think it's a bit of a strange one in the Disney
- 3:27pantheon because it's kind of like iconic but
- 3:31then I feel like it's also like the lesser talked
- 3:34about iconic princess movie compared to like
- 3:37Cinderella and Snow White and stuff like that.
- 3:42Well, it's like, I remember you and me talking
- 3:46about, was it on Cinderella where we talked about
- 3:49the Disney princesses with the least amount of
- 3:52screen time? Yes. And number one is obviously
- 3:56Sleeping Beauty because she's... she's asleep
- 3:59so what's she gonna do yeah um i feel like she's
- 4:05probably the one as well where most people don't
- 4:06even know like her name like i say most people
- 4:09if if i think a lot of people know her name but
- 4:12like if you had to ask people and there was one
- 4:14that they forgot the name of it would probably
- 4:16be uh princess aurora from sleeping beauty um
- 4:19i was i i was i i was about to be like don't
- 4:23let me don't tell me what it is because I wanted
- 4:27to see if I could get it and I knew it began
- 4:29with an A but I wouldn't have been able I would
- 4:32never have got Aurora honestly but I don't even
- 4:37I may have seen it as a kid I'd be happy to say
- 4:41I haven't seen it though because even if I did
- 4:42see it as a kid it would be like in passing I
- 4:45want to watch it but I just haven't got it yet
- 4:47I think I'd like I think I'd like to watch it.
- 4:53Sleeping Beauty never had any sequels, as we've
- 4:55discussed. It never had a TV show or anything
- 5:00like that. The main way that this film continued
- 5:02is the Maleficent movies with Angelina Jolie,
- 5:05which are retellings of the movie from Maleficent's
- 5:10perspective, where it's like, oh, she was actually
- 5:13good all along and all this stuff. So I think
- 5:16that character's shoved her way in at the spotlight
- 5:19more than... Sleeping Beauty herself. And those
- 5:23movies are... I don't care for them, but whatever.
- 5:26They must be popular enough to get a sequel.
- 5:30Was this before or after Wicked? Before. Well,
- 5:34after the musical. Way after the musical. Right,
- 5:37okay. But before the Ariana Grande movie. They
- 5:41were probably trying to capture some of the magic
- 5:44of the Wicked stage show before that. turned
- 5:48inevitably turned into a film yeah i wouldn't
- 5:51be surprised if they were heavily inspired by
- 5:53it but no i i've not seen any of the maleficent
- 5:57films they did not interest me at all so okay
- 6:01so i have just quickly double checked so the
- 6:04idea came from a meeting in 2003 uh and it was
- 6:08inspired by the recently released then wicked
- 6:10musical so you bang on the money i'm a genius
- 6:15I don't really remember much about these movies.
- 6:17Angelina Jolie's great in it. She looks absolutely
- 6:20copied from the cartoon and all this stuff, but
- 6:24I didn't really care for the entire story. She
- 6:28was good all along or whatever. I don't even
- 6:30remember what the second one's about. Probably
- 6:32a little anti -hero kind of Venom moment. Oh,
- 6:37Venom's not too bad. He's alright, actually.
- 6:39Just trying to redeem them kind of thing. It's
- 6:43like the... the spum universe of disney this
- 6:47in the cruella movie which i'm sure we'll talk
- 6:49about soon oh shit yeah it's got something to
- 6:54do with sleeping beauty i think i don't know
- 6:58if there's uh any other villain movies that they're
- 7:00planning on making like like these two but uh
- 7:03yeah i'll just leave them in the dust honestly
- 7:07they're just not great, are they? No. We'll talk
- 7:12a bit more about Cruella shortly, but yeah. The
- 7:15only other ways Maleficent has continued other
- 7:17than... Sorry, the only other way... See, I told
- 7:19you she's the spotlight character now. The only
- 7:22other ways Sleeping Beauty has continued other
- 7:25than the Maleficent series is the usual suspects
- 7:29of Kingdom Hearts, Disney Infinity... Disney
- 7:34Magic Kingdom, Disney Princess games, stuff like
- 7:37that. But nothing very focused on Sleeping Beauty
- 7:41itself. And obviously the castle is a huge, iconic
- 7:45thing of Disneyland. Is it the Disney logo or
- 7:50is it the Cinderella one? I don't know. I thought
- 7:52it was the Cinderella one. Cinderella, you're
- 7:58right. Cinderella Castle is the fairytale castle
- 8:01at the centre of the... The theme parks. Oh,
- 8:04it does say it's inspired by both of them, though.
- 8:09Yeah. Oh, well. That's cool. She's outshone by
- 8:12the villain and the inanimate castle in her own
- 8:16movie. Yeah, that was that one. That was that
- 8:23one. But on to this week's focus, which, well,
- 8:29before we get into the sequel. The first film,
- 8:32101 Dalmatians, was the film that initially followed
- 8:36Sleeping Beauty. Is that distracting? I'm sorry.
- 8:42This came out in 1961. It's directed by some
- 8:47usual suspects of the Disney pantheon, Wolfgang
- 8:50Reiferman and Hamilton Lusk and Clyde Geronimi.
- 8:55I probably butchered his name. screenplay by
- 8:58bill pete it's based on a book by dodie smith
- 9:02uh the book was only released five years before
- 9:05this that's quite strangely contemporary for
- 9:07this movie to just oh wow be adapted on that
- 9:10recent book yeah that's crazy i i would never
- 9:15have thought of that No, yeah. And it cost about,
- 9:18like, three, four million. This came at, like,
- 9:22we've definitely gone through this a few times.
- 9:24It seems like Disney at the time were, like,
- 9:26constantly in a state of, like, like, Schrodinger's
- 9:29Disney. Like, they were in a state of either,
- 9:31like, living on top of the world or, like, a
- 9:34crisis at the studios on the verge of breaking
- 9:36down. And this was one of the latter ones because
- 9:42Sleeping Beauty didn't do so hot at the box office.
- 9:45They were losing a lot of money and the animation
- 9:47department was at risk of closing. Oh, crap.
- 9:52In hindsight, the idea of making a movie around
- 9:57101 spotted dogs that animators would have to
- 10:01animate is insanely ambitious. Every single one
- 10:09of these dogs is going to move uniquely in all
- 10:12of this and they're all going to be completely
- 10:14different and all the spots are going to be completely
- 10:16different. This is going to be hard work, lads,
- 10:20but I think we got it. That's crazy. The only
- 10:26reason this film could possibly exist is they
- 10:29looked into new processes, which I'm sure we're
- 10:32going to talk about. They used something called
- 10:33Xerox photography to aid in animation, which
- 10:37transfers even drones from animators directly
- 10:40to animation cells. So there's no like income
- 10:42process. It saves a lot of time and money. One
- 10:45outcome of this, which is like a limitation,
- 10:48but I think it's amazing. they always have like
- 10:52the scratchy outlines so it's not as oh dude
- 10:55it's one of my favorite parts of the film how
- 10:59scratchy and how beautiful it looks i love it
- 11:03but disney didn't like it at the time and it
- 11:06was very controversial whether or not they'd
- 11:08keep doing this yeah well what does he know but
- 11:14chuck jones who you probably know the name of
- 11:17um he's like a famous animator uh not at disney
- 11:21but yeah done a lot of looney tunes and stuff
- 11:23like that yeah yeah he he thinks that disney
- 11:27would have completed this film for half of what
- 11:29it would have cost uh if they didn't have this
- 11:31process so it probably wouldn't have ever existed
- 11:33if they had a ink all of the spots and stuff
- 11:36god damn that's crazy yeah and they saw that
- 11:40like we said they saw that as a as a trade -off
- 11:44with the scratchy look, but I loved it as well.
- 11:47I thought it looked absolutely beautiful. Do
- 11:50you know what? I can understand it because every
- 11:52single film that's come before it has had, you
- 11:55know, this beautiful, there's none of that scratchiness.
- 11:59So people, I can see why Disney would have been
- 12:03like, people are going to think this is a downgrade
- 12:06kind of thing, but... I think it just gives the
- 12:09film so much more character. Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 12:13Yeah, it just feels unique. It feels like it
- 12:18stands out from all the other Disney films. Just
- 12:21the only other thing with the animation is there's
- 12:24actually a quote here. So Ken Anderson is the
- 12:27name of the studio's art director at the time,
- 12:29and Disney hated this so much. he was like looking
- 12:35at like the the style of it and he said yeah
- 12:37yeah you can fool around all you want to with
- 12:39it and stuff like that like basically saying
- 12:42you can try it but like he's quite dismissive
- 12:44of it but there's a quote where um apparently
- 12:47when the film was being made um he said we're
- 12:52never gonna have one of these goddamn things
- 12:54again and he said ken's never gonna be an art
- 12:58director again And apparently they made peace
- 13:03just before Walt Disney died. But yeah, he was
- 13:08not happy. Oh my God. Again, what does Walt Disney
- 13:12know? Fucking loser. But what did you think of
- 13:17101 Dormitions? This film's fucking lovely, isn't
- 13:23it? It's really, really nice. I think there's
- 13:26a couple of scenes that... And a couple of sections
- 13:31of the film that are a little bit too long. This
- 13:35is a short film, but God, it feels long. I don't
- 13:41think that's helped by the twilight bark. Holy
- 13:46shit. It is the longest scene and it's all, I
- 13:52remember you messaging cause I hadn't seen it
- 13:55at the point, but I think you were watching.
- 13:59our next film and you said what is it with like
- 14:04disney and thinking that kids love the military
- 14:08and stuff like that yeah i was like what are
- 14:11you talking about like surely there's nothing
- 14:14like that with uh with 101 dalmatians no this
- 14:17is like the most like in the middle of it you
- 14:21just get this hefty thud of just military jargon
- 14:27and all of this stuff and it takes forever that's
- 14:32my only complaint about it it's so just like
- 14:37shut up stop and i get that it was at that point
- 14:42like in time where kids were so obsessed with
- 14:45like their dads or their granddads were in the
- 14:48military you know with post world war ii by what
- 14:5220 years 15 years something like that so they're
- 14:55obviously gonna have that kind of thing and think
- 14:58that these people are heroes and they are like
- 15:01the coolest people and all of this but god damn
- 15:04it took forever yeah it's uh i think you're probably
- 15:09right on the money with the the reason why we
- 15:11get these military like disney seems to have
- 15:13a fascination at this point of uh a fuddy -duddy
- 15:17silly old military man and he's a bit goofy in
- 15:19that kind of thing yeah you're probably right
- 15:24on the money and why we get that a lot the twilight
- 15:26park is uh so basically if you don't if you don't
- 15:28remember the film it's basically a part where
- 15:30pongo and purdy have lost the puppies they've
- 15:32been stolen and uh that's the doggies by the
- 15:35way no dogs and and uh it has been the humans
- 15:43have tried everything the dogs are like it's
- 15:45up to us now so they go out and they do something
- 15:47called the twilight bark which is they'll bark
- 15:49the message out one dog will hear it they'll
- 15:51pass it along and along and along and it's this
- 15:53big chain for dogs the scene lasts and i wrote
- 15:56this down seven minutes and 53 seconds and the
- 16:00scene is basically one dog going and you see
- 16:05another dog this and he goes i think i hear something
- 16:08and then he'll then relay that and you see like
- 16:13eight minutes of dog after dog after dog just
- 16:18barking the worst though is when it gets to the
- 16:23end of that and it's the old dog and he's like
- 16:26yeah it's it's funny he's like the colonel and
- 16:29then you've got the cat who's like a preppy yeah
- 16:34who's like a preppy um little you know, he, he
- 16:41wants to be really helpful to his Colonel and
- 16:43all of that. Yeah. But this fucking dog just
- 16:46can't hear for shit. And he keeps being like,
- 16:48Oh, it's a poopies or whatever. He says, I can't
- 16:53remember, but it was, Oh God. And then they go
- 16:57back and forth between the last dog and them.
- 17:00It just feels like, you saying that was seven
- 17:03minutes, I'm surprised because I thought it was
- 17:06like 20 minutes of that. It's the only thing
- 17:11that really put me off the film. And I was just
- 17:14like, oh my God, this is taking forever. It's
- 17:21unbearable. Yeah, I agree. Other than that, though,
- 17:28I think this is a fantastic film. And also, Disney
- 17:33did not need to go so fucking hard with the intro.
- 17:37Holy shit. It's one of the... Oh, my God. It's
- 17:42one of the most beautiful. It reminded me of
- 17:46Fantasia 2000, the New York one. And I was absolutely,
- 17:53like, me and my partner were sat there watching
- 17:55it. I think my mouth, as soon as those spots
- 17:59started, like, going around and all of that,
- 18:01my mouth dropped. I was like, this is unbelievable.
- 18:06Yeah, it's so good. I loved it. Like, Disney
- 18:11and the art director should not have been fighting.
- 18:16They should have been making out in the corner.
- 18:18Fucking beautiful. Oh, the music's so good as
- 18:24well for it, isn't it? Speaking of the Fantasia
- 18:26one, it is very... All of it just goes so well.
- 18:30Yeah. This is George Bruns, I believe it's pronounced,
- 18:34who's worked on a lot of Disney stuff around
- 18:37this point, so he's also done Jungle Book and
- 18:39Arrested Cats and stuff, and he's got this very
- 18:41jazzy kind of style to the music he uses. So
- 18:44good. What did you think about... uh 101 dalmatians
- 18:49i loved it as well um i've had the same issue
- 18:52with the twilight block as you um but it didn't
- 18:54i don't know why it just uh i think i'm just
- 18:57used to it now so it's like it rolls off my back
- 19:00a little bit more uh but i kind of phase out
- 19:03during that scene um yeah there's the i really
- 19:07like the opening of the movie Where it's Pongo
- 19:10the dog trying to be like a little matchmaker
- 19:12for his owner. It's such an adorable scene. It's
- 19:15so cute. Yeah. Him trying to figure out like
- 19:19what a human would like in a partner. Yeah. He's
- 19:22talking about Roger and he's like, that's me.
- 19:25And that's my pet. It's so like, obviously it's
- 19:30been done to death, like further along, like
- 19:35many years down the line. Yeah, what a lovely
- 19:40and very fun and clever kind of setup for the
- 19:44film. Yeah. Yeah, it's really nice. I think Cruella
- 19:48is an insanely well done villain. Like her animations,
- 19:53she's so flamboyant. Like the design is amazing.
- 19:56The cigar, not cigar, but the cigarette and the
- 19:59little like kind of holder thing she's got with
- 20:02that poisonous green trail constantly following
- 20:04her is just fantastic. Is that how you look at
- 20:09me when I vape? Yeah, that is you. I don't understand
- 20:15why Anita would ever be friends with this woman.
- 20:18She's absolutely vile. She is awful. I do really
- 20:22like... Her performance is amazing. Betty Lou
- 20:25Gerson. Absolutely sublime. Genuinely. Throughout
- 20:31the entire movie, just... killer killer killer
- 20:34um literally and figuratively um but yeah uh
- 20:40i really like uh obviously there's the famous
- 20:43corolla deville song but part of that as well
- 20:45when she's in the house like roger's like really
- 20:48aggressively and angrily playing like saxophone
- 20:51and stamping his feet and stuff upstairs It's
- 21:03so funny. It's so silly and petty. But it obviously
- 21:07leads up to the part where he finally stands
- 21:09up to it. He's like, you're not getting a single
- 21:11pop. In fact, we're not telling any of them.
- 21:13And he's very stern. It's a really well animated
- 21:16bit where you can tell it's the first time he's
- 21:18had a spine against her properly. It's a really
- 21:22good bit. Class. It's so good. I really like
- 21:27it. I was fully... I couldn't remember if...
- 21:34Pongo and can you remind me of the other dog's
- 21:38name? Perdita. What's the lady dog called? Perdita.
- 21:41Yeah. I feel like you're right. Yeah. Purdy.
- 21:45Yeah. Yeah. Pongo and Purdy. I thought Purdy.
- 21:50Gave birth to 101 Dalmatians. I forgot that.
- 21:54No. No, no, no. The others. Yeah. So when they
- 21:57were counting up and they were like, it's 13.
- 22:00I was like, this is going to take forever. This
- 22:05has genuinely made me really want to read the
- 22:08books, by the way. Oh, yeah. Watching this film.
- 22:11I imagine they're good. So I think I'm going
- 22:12to get them. Yeah. I love when the puppies are
- 22:14watching TV. Like, they're so cute. And like
- 22:16the one that keeps jumping up at it. is so adorable
- 22:21uh the the one that keeps going mama i'm hungry
- 22:26aptly called i yeah i i think i said to my partner
- 22:34i was like that little dickhead needs to shut
- 22:37up but i really am mama I really am, mama. I
- 22:44thought he was lovely. It's just, I think the
- 22:47first couple of times I was like, that is adorable.
- 22:50And then he gets rescued. And then the first
- 22:53thing he says to his mom is, mama, I'm hungry.
- 22:57Shut up. Go back to Cruella. Like, get skinned,
- 23:01idiot. Cruella's got like such a vicious plot
- 23:04in this as well, speaking of which. The idea
- 23:06that she's like steering all these puppies to
- 23:08skin them and make a coat is like insane. i what
- 23:12i i swear i like opened up a reddit thing and
- 23:17it was like someone talking about cruella and
- 23:21they were like cruella didn't actually do anything
- 23:23that bad what are you talking about she tried
- 23:28to skin some dogs are you kidding me like genuinely
- 23:33what are you on about yes she's a monster uh
- 23:37she's probably one of the most uh vicious disney
- 23:41villains full i um i don't know how to describe
- 23:45it because like if you don't really care about
- 23:47animals you probably think i sound like an idiot
- 23:48but like it is just a needlessly cruel plot to
- 23:52have for her she is ruthless yeah Don't get me
- 23:57wrong, I'm glad she's ruthless. Like, I think
- 23:59it makes the film excellent. Especially, like,
- 24:00her two cronies, which are hilarious. Totally
- 24:03agree. Yeah, they are great. The one that's,
- 24:06like, the skinnier one, he's just always, like,
- 24:08watching TV and just, like, drunkily shouting,
- 24:10like, Ah, shut up! And the dogs, whenever they,
- 24:13like, bark. It's so funny. There's definitely
- 24:17moments, like, when, um... Is it Patch that jumps
- 24:22up at the TV, or is it Lucky? I can't remember.
- 24:25But it really reminds me of The Simpsons. Get
- 24:32that cat out of the way! Well, that's based on
- 24:35this, isn't it? That was Mr. Burns trying to
- 24:38steal the bugs. Yeah, of course. Of course it
- 24:41is. I didn't even... Oh, my God. I'm an idiot.
- 24:44Of course it is. I also really love, like, just...
- 24:49That middle bit of the Twilight Park is a little
- 24:51down bit, but I love the rescue of the dogs and
- 24:53sneaking away and they have to make this pillage
- 24:55across the countryside in the snow. And it's
- 24:59so long and arduous and you can feel how tough
- 25:04it is for those dogs. And then they go into the
- 25:08shed and they get some milk from cows, which
- 25:12it's very strange that we... When I saw that,
- 25:18I was like, Ew, what? And then I was like, hang
- 25:21on a second. That's exactly what we do. You're
- 25:24like eating your cornflakes like, that's disgusting
- 25:26animal. This is, this is gross. But yeah, I thought
- 25:33that was really lovely that the cows did that
- 25:35for them and they all got. home okay there's
- 25:39some like really fun shots as well when they're
- 25:41escaping and like they'll be hiding in a building
- 25:45and you just hear carola's car like with the
- 25:47engine like and she like just drives so slowly
- 25:51past looking at the building that's like i love
- 25:54the animation and the sound on that it's just
- 25:56great and the way that she's like peering out
- 26:00the window and like looking left and right oh
- 26:02it's so well animated and the um the the the
- 26:07way that they disguise themselves to look like
- 26:09labradors is just ah that's so fun and uh what
- 26:13a unique idea like i think that's great is that
- 26:18the part where pongo tells all the puppies to
- 26:20do blackface anyway this was uh after ever after
- 26:25i'm cancelled No, I agree. I agree. And I think
- 26:33that because with the snow and that, obviously
- 26:35it's easy for it to get wiped off. I did not
- 26:41even think of it as blackface, but yeah, you
- 26:46were so right. It's fine because the Labrador
- 26:51says it's okay. they got a pass it's fine by
- 26:57the way that labrador is amazing and there's
- 26:59also um what's what's that kind of dog called
- 27:01like lassie dogs you know from the lassie tv
- 27:04oh the uh like a like a english shepherd or whatever
- 27:07they're called yeah there's a dog like that which
- 27:09comes to them at a really arduous point it's
- 27:11like pogo come with me i've got shelter and all
- 27:14this and like i just love like some of these
- 27:16little side character dogs that get like two
- 27:18minutes screen time speaking of side character
- 27:20dogs i love that we get to see all of the uh
- 27:23i'm sad that we didn't get to see lady in the
- 27:26tramp but we got to see jock and we got to see
- 27:30peggy as well yeah um Yeah, during the Twilight
- 27:36Bark, my least favourite part of the film, but
- 27:38that made up for it because they're adorable.
- 27:41Yeah, that was very cute. Nice little cameo there.
- 27:44Good film. I think this is a great film. Bang
- 27:47it. I think this might be my favourite Disney
- 27:48classic so far from what we've done. Soon to
- 27:52be usurped, but... Yeah, I think... I think I
- 27:56totally agree. I think it's absolutely wonderful
- 28:00and really, really lovely, apart from the Twilight
- 28:05Bark, which can go to hell. I do have a couple
- 28:09of little bits of trivia for this. One's not
- 28:11even that interesting, but I just kind of like
- 28:13it. It's just someone pissing off Disney, which
- 28:15I like. Amazing. One of them is just, we talked
- 28:20about Cruella being an absurdly evil character,
- 28:23but the author of the film... the author of the
- 28:25book even, sorry, Dodie Smith, said that the
- 28:27idea came where because she had a Dalmatian who
- 28:30had puppies, one of the dogs was actually called
- 28:33Pongo, and a friend came over and saw all the
- 28:35dogs and said those dogs would make a lovely
- 28:37fur coat, so she actually based it on someone
- 28:40in real life. No way! That's crazy! Can you imagine
- 28:45being that friend as well, seeing her, she's
- 28:47released this entire book about how much she
- 28:49hates you. Anyway, this horrible evil woman walked
- 28:56in with a dirty poison cigarette and started
- 29:00talking about how she wanted to eat all of my
- 29:03dogs and turn them into a coat. And the only
- 29:08other thing, again, the trivia itself is not
- 29:10fun, but I just kind of like how aggressive it
- 29:13gets. Someone called Bill Pete was working on
- 29:16it. He planned to have the puppies cheering more
- 29:18during the television scene. So he was writing
- 29:21the story and that. At a story meeting, Walt
- 29:24Disney commented that most children don't really
- 29:26show reactions when watching TV. They just kind
- 29:28of like watch it glazed eyes and stuff like that.
- 29:32Yeah. And he said, like, his grandson didn't
- 29:35even look away from the TV sometimes when he'd
- 29:36come to visit. So Bill Pete said, maybe he didn't
- 29:39know who you were, commenting about Disney being
- 29:42an absentee father. Oh my fucking God. And Disney
- 29:47apparently did not like that one. That's ruthless.
- 29:52Absolutely. Roasted. There is one other note
- 29:55that I'd like to just comment on, which is just
- 29:57how funny it is that Roger makes his money at
- 29:59the end of this movie based on... a diss track
- 30:02that he's made of a real woman cruella deville
- 30:05and like at the time it's at the time it's released
- 30:09she's like legally in the clear um she's not
- 30:13being proven guilty like they've investigated
- 30:15and it's like nope she's fine he's just released
- 30:18a diss track of her and it's become number one
- 30:20this is the the first instance of like a a drake
- 30:25and kendrick beef It's so absurd. I love it.
- 30:32Oh, what a great... Oh, good times. Good times.
- 30:36So yeah, I guess it's time to jump into the sequel.
- 30:41To the land of 2002, did we settle on it released?
- 30:47Depending on who you ask, it's either 2002 or
- 30:492003. It looks like it was produced mostly in
- 30:522002, but the wide release was 2003. It must
- 30:55have got a minor release somewhere in 2002. Oh,
- 30:58fucking Japan got it in 2002, December, and now
- 31:01that's solidified it as a 2002 movie. And now
- 31:03that's the release date. Yeah. That's mad. It
- 31:07says Japan got it digitally, which is absolutely
- 31:09not right. In 2002, they didn't get it on Netflix.
- 31:13Digital? Yeah, do you have stuff about the director
- 31:17and stuff? No, do you? Oh, I do. This film is
- 31:24directed by Jim Camerood and Brian Smith. Now,
- 31:31Brian Smith, there's not too much that I could
- 31:35see about him. Maybe if I did a little bit more
- 31:39digging, I could find. But Jim Camerood has done
- 31:44a couple of other Disney bits and bobs before.
- 31:49So he worked as a story artist on a goofy movie.
- 31:53He was a supervising animator on Space Jam. So
- 31:59obviously not Disney, but he does some... Animation
- 32:03stuff. He directed some sequences in Pocahontas
- 32:082, Journey to a New World, which we will cover
- 32:12at some point. He was also director and character
- 32:17designer for Little Mermaid 2. Then he smashed
- 32:23out this bad boy as director. story writer and
- 32:29screenplay person um and then he did a couple
- 32:32of others so he did Tarzan 2 and Fox and the
- 32:35Hound 2 um after that and hasn't really done
- 32:38any more um Disney stuff since then so That shows
- 32:45you how they think of him. Oh, he also worked
- 32:50on Aristocrats 2, but that has been shelved.
- 32:55Probably in the, who was it? Was it Lasseter's?
- 32:59Lasseter's Guillotine. Yeah, Lasseter's Guillotine
- 33:03struck again. And yeah, Aristocrats 2 got put
- 33:08in the fucking... basket with all the other heads
- 33:11so this film stars uh bobby lockwood who plays
- 33:16uh patch it patch in this so he's the main character
- 33:20then we've got notably just with him he's a kid
- 33:24and you can tell the difference between this
- 33:28guy playing a kid when he's a kid and the last
- 33:30dog uh scamp being an adult just putting a higher
- 33:34pitched voice on i want to be wild and free There's
- 33:38a definite difference. Oh my god, yeah, you're
- 33:41so right. Yeah, this guy's a lot better than...
- 33:46Scamp. After that, you've got Barry Bostwick
- 33:50who plays the second main character in this,
- 33:54Thunderbolt. Yes. Which is weird because Pongo
- 33:58and... How have I forgotten her name already?
- 34:02Padita. Padita. Pongo and Padita are... I wouldn't
- 34:08even say secondary characters in this. They're
- 34:10like tertiary characters. They're barely in it.
- 34:13Again, it's one of those films like Scamp's Revenge.
- 34:18Yeah, it's like a home alone thing, so they're
- 34:20not around a lot. Exactly. Other people of note,
- 34:25we've got Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame. martin
- 34:35short thunderbolt sort of like scrappy little
- 34:38sidekick yeah lightning little lightning that's
- 34:43his name uh um and we've got martin short who
- 34:49plays a very eccentric art um critic would you
- 34:55say or he's an artist yeah he's actually the
- 34:58yeah um Who else have we got? We've got Suzanne
- 35:04Blakesley. Yes. Who replaces... Betty Lucas.
- 35:12Sorry, I've forgotten. Yeah. As Cruella and does
- 35:17a phenomenal job. I will say that. Suzanne Blakesley,
- 35:21who we've already discussed, is doing a phenomenal
- 35:24job as Lady Tremaine in Cinderella 2 and 3. Oh,
- 35:27yes, of course. Yeah. She's just the perfect,
- 35:30like, evil voice actor kind of thing. She's incredible.
- 35:33It's great. She's so good. And then we have a
- 35:40gentleman called Tim Betnick. Bent. We have a
- 35:49gentleman called Tim Bentinick. I'm struggling
- 35:54to say this name. Bentinick. Bentinck. So we
- 36:02have another gentleman, another actor called
- 36:04Tim Bentinck. And his full name, Andrew, Andrew,
- 36:11his full name is... Oh, we're going to hear you
- 36:13say the name again? No, his full name. We're
- 36:17going for the full name. Okay. Timothy Charles
- 36:20Robert Noel Bentinck, 12th Earl of Portland,
- 36:25Count Bentinck. He is an Earl of Portland in
- 36:31Australia. What? Why is he... That's his full
- 36:34legal name. Who does he play? Isn't that... I
- 36:39can't remember because it doesn't say it. Roger.
- 36:44He is... Oh, he's Roger. Roger's barely in this.
- 36:48What's he doing? I know. So, why is this Earl
- 36:53of Port... The 12th Earl of Portland of Australia
- 36:56playing... this guy and why is he shit oh i didn't
- 37:01think he was terrible i just thought he was not
- 37:03he doesn't sound anything like him oh no you
- 37:07know what i i agree that if you watch these back
- 37:09to back a lot of the voice actors um don't sound
- 37:13exactly like pongo doesn't sound like the old
- 37:15one roger doesn't sound like yeah i don't think
- 37:17it's necessarily a bad performance in my opinion
- 37:19but the only one that it just it feel seamless
- 37:23incredibly jarring the only one that feels seamless
- 37:26is uh suzanne blakesley yes yeah it's like sublime
- 37:32yeah you could trick me into thinking that's
- 37:34just the same lady agreed totally agree um so
- 37:39other than that we don't have a box office um
- 37:42but and he did boy yeah uh not even an estimate
- 37:48though normally there's like an estimate of how
- 37:50much this would have cost and yeah exactly so
- 37:55we can assume that this made nothing or 101 billion
- 38:00dollars oh very nice and this released against
- 38:08you were saying it released against Ang Lee's
- 38:10Hulk didn't you no I was joking well we'll cut
- 38:17that part out then You bastard. It came out in
- 38:24January 2003, so the same month as films such
- 38:28as Kangaroo Jack. Oh, hell yeah. Darkness Falls
- 38:33by the director Jonathan Leibsmann, whose name
- 38:36I recognise for some reason. Oh, he made Ninja
- 38:38Turtles. We'll cut that. I don't want to be associated
- 38:41with knowing the director of Ninja Turtles. Final
- 38:46Destination 2 was also in this month. And then
- 38:51the month after we had Daredevil Jungle Book
- 38:532. Daredevil, that's mad. Daredevil came out
- 38:56on February the 14th. They were really hoping
- 38:58that was going to be a romantic box opposite.
- 39:04Everyone's going to want to watch this blind
- 39:06man and this woman with knives. That gets killed
- 39:10immediately. Go at it. Oh, cool. Oh, that's weird.
- 39:19I'm going to cut this bit. 101 Dimensions came
- 39:22out on the 21st of January. So that also came
- 39:23out like two days before my birthday. Ah, interesting.
- 39:27I'll cut that bit so I don't dox myself. Also,
- 39:31I'm so sorry. That part's going to have to be
- 39:33cut to shit because I just rambled for so long
- 39:37because I barely prepped anything about this.
- 39:39That's fine. I'm so sorry. Oh, there's a movie
- 39:41that came out in that month with Matt Letcher
- 39:43directed by Jeff Daniels. It's called Super Sucker.
- 39:46It looks awful. Excuse me? Jeff Daniels and Harvey
- 39:53Presnell are heads of two different door -to
- 39:55-door vacuum cleaner distributors with salesmen
- 39:58competing for the same territory. Their rivalry
- 40:01becomes so fierce that the president of the manufacturer
- 40:04of the company, Mr. Suckerton! decides that for
- 40:08the good of the company, the town can only have
- 40:10one group of sales representatives. Desperate
- 40:14and always the underdog, Barlow suggests a winner
- 40:17-takes -all sales contest to determine the territory.
- 40:19Well behind, snail -belt from the start. Barlow's
- 40:24sales search... What the fuck are you on about?
- 40:26When he learns of his wife's... What's happening?
- 40:28Excuse me. Barlow still search when he learns
- 40:31of his wife's non -traditional use of the circular
- 40:34nap nipper, a homemaker's little helper, a long
- 40:37-forgotten vacuum attachment. Let's talk about
- 40:40102 Dalmatians. 101? 101 Dalmatians 2. 101? Supersucker.
- 40:50Shut up. All right, Andy, what did you think
- 40:56of this? 101 Dalmatians 2. Yeah. Run us through
- 41:04it? Yeah, tell you what, I'll give you a little
- 41:07plot synopsis. So the plot basically comes right
- 41:11after the first one. The first one ends with
- 41:14Roger... and uh anita want to keep all the dogs
- 41:18that have come the rescue dogs the the 101 dalmatians
- 41:21if you will uh and based on his money that he's
- 41:24made from the diss track he's like we'll build
- 41:26a dalmatian plantation and this movie picks up
- 41:29on Exactly that, they are building the Dalmatian
- 41:32plantation. The dogs are getting ready to move,
- 41:35as are the humans, the nanny's there, everyone's
- 41:37back. One of the dogs, Little Patch, one of the
- 41:41original Dalmatian pups, is starting to feel
- 41:44a bit lost with how many siblings he now has.
- 41:47He's starting to feel like one of a pack rather
- 41:48than one of a kind. And something I like about
- 41:52this movie, compared to Lady and the Tramp 2,
- 41:55that dog felt a bit whiny and he left a perfectly
- 41:57good home. And it was really frustrating throughout
- 42:02the entire movie, whereas here they have a home
- 42:04alone sort of scenario where one thing leads
- 42:07to another and Patch is accidentally left home
- 42:09and he feels like, they don't even miss me, so
- 42:12whatever. And it does take them a while to figure
- 42:15that out because there are, you know... 101 of
- 42:19them um so patch goes on a little adventure where
- 42:23he goes around london he meets the star of the
- 42:24tv show that all the dogs used to watch in the
- 42:27first one called thunderbolt and they get up
- 42:31to little hijinks because thunderbolt wants to
- 42:33prove that he is a real hero after he hears a
- 42:37rumor that he's going to be cut from the tv show
- 42:39meanwhile cruella deville is on probation and
- 42:45she is learning to adjust her little mental breakdown
- 42:48about dalmatians uh in various ways including
- 42:52meeting an artist who likes to draw spots hell
- 42:54yeah i like this more than i thought i would
- 42:57i fucking hated this did you oh man i thought
- 43:02this was awful oh wow i didn't don't get me wrong
- 43:09i didn't love it but i liked it a lot more than
- 43:12i expected Oh God, this was genuinely, for me,
- 43:18painful to watch. I really did not like this
- 43:25at all. Nothing worked for me. I thought it was
- 43:29shocking. We nearly turned it off. What would
- 43:36we have done? Can you just cancel the podcast?
- 43:38Yeah, it was that close. No. Like, it was to
- 43:43the point that I was going to say to my partner,
- 43:46like, you don't have to watch this. I'll watch
- 43:50the rest of it. This is my burden to bear. Because
- 43:52we watched 101, and then we watched this, and
- 43:57fuck me. I really did not enjoy it at all. Oh
- 44:03my gosh. I stopped writing notes. Genuinely,
- 44:06I got really frustrated with it. There's parts,
- 44:11there's parts that I liked, but I, yeah, I think
- 44:16I really fucking hated it. Man, I'm a... It's
- 44:24crazy. I'm a little bit shocked. Are you? I didn't
- 44:28expect you to love it, but I didn't expect you
- 44:30to hate it. I just thought it was just like,
- 44:32this is enough on film. It's just like, I think
- 44:35it's charming enough. I like, I was actually,
- 44:38it started on a really good foot for me because
- 44:40it has the animated opening credits and it felt
- 44:42like they were really trying to do something
- 44:44creative. And it also has the, and I was absolutely
- 44:49fucking shocked at this. I literally shouted,
- 44:51wow, when it started. They try. their best to
- 44:55keep the little hand -drawn scratchy look to
- 44:58the animation. And I did not expect that at all.
- 45:00And I think they got a lot of good ball acting
- 45:02on that alone. I do really like that they kept
- 45:04the scratchiness. I completely disagree on the
- 45:09intro, though. I thought the intro was an absolute
- 45:12pale imitation of them trying to do something
- 45:16as interesting and as unique as the original.
- 45:20Like, genuinely, I thought it was really... Like,
- 45:24just them trying to get something that was relatively
- 45:27similar and it failed, like, to me. This is crazy.
- 45:33This is... I now know how you felt about Santa
- 45:37Claus 2. Yeah. Oh, man. Like I said, I didn't
- 45:42love it, but I liked it a lot. Yeah. I wouldn't
- 45:46go back and watch it, but if I had a kid and
- 45:48the kid was like... dalmatians 2 i'd be like
- 45:51yeah we'll watch 101 dalmatians 2 whatever you
- 45:53want whereas if they wanted to watch like cinderella
- 45:562 i'd gaslight them and i figured it didn't exist
- 45:58i i i think there's a few things where i felt
- 46:01worried it was gonna be more lady in the tram
- 46:042 like i thought thunderbolt at first was a really
- 46:07irritating character but i think he had a good
- 46:09character arc to him which feels insane to say
- 46:12for this film but i i did enjoy that he realized
- 46:16fame wasn't everything and he actually became
- 46:17like an actual hero just by trying to help uh
- 46:20that scamp patch uh yeah i could tell there was
- 46:24like the like the but i've changed moment kind
- 46:28of thing you know when someone's like i trusted
- 46:31you and then they're like oh but i did change
- 46:34actually he didn't fucking change he just stayed
- 46:38exactly the same he's a liar oh no he's a scumbag
- 46:42that's not nice I think he changed a bit. No,
- 46:47but then he changes after that. After he gets
- 46:50proven wrong, that's when he changes. He even
- 46:53admits that in the cage when they're... So this
- 46:57is later in the film, they've been captured by
- 46:59Cruella again. Which, by the way, this film just
- 47:03repeats the same thing again. It just does 101
- 47:06Dalmatians, but worse again. Yeah, they all do
- 47:09this, to be fair, which is irritating. And this
- 47:11is... So I'm wondering, like, when do these try?
- 47:19When do these actually start putting the effort
- 47:23in? And this is the fascinating thing it's going
- 47:27to be because we're doing this and we're going
- 47:29through all of them. We're going to see different
- 47:33levels of effort with each of them because...
- 47:37we're not necessarily going through when the
- 47:40well we're not going through when the sequels
- 47:42were released yeah we're going through when the
- 47:44originals were released so we're seeing loads
- 47:46of different times of disney sequels yeah i'm
- 47:51really curious when that cut is gonna be where
- 47:54they actually put some fucking effort in because
- 47:56this felt so lazy and so recycled from the first
- 48:03one um that it's kind of a little bit pathetic
- 48:07for me oh man i thought it was cute and i thought
- 48:11it was charming and uh it was a silly plot but
- 48:15i really liked it uh cinderella cruella is um
- 48:19trying to push her little like fur addiction
- 48:22in a different way she finds like an artist who
- 48:24likes to draw spots uh i did write down that
- 48:27yeah cruella would have loved um Across the Spider
- 48:29-Verse. Oh God, she would have loved it. I reckon
- 48:36she would have found a way. She's such like a
- 48:40good manipulator and such an evil person that
- 48:43she would have found a way to transfer spots
- 48:46like powers to her. like she would have gone
- 48:51back in time and been hit with in the head with
- 48:54the bagel or something like that um to be able
- 48:57to get them um i agree with you i think that
- 49:01the cruella and martin short parts are the best
- 49:08yeah martin short i really enjoyed them it's
- 49:11really fun as this big eccentric like artist
- 49:14who feels like cruella finally gets her art but
- 49:17like uh his art even but in reality she just
- 49:20yeah is feeding a little obsession uh she doesn't
- 49:23actually care about the art so much she quickly
- 49:25like realizes like this isn't this isn't gonna
- 49:28work uh she doesn't want to make a coat anymore
- 49:30she wants to What is it? She wants to use the
- 49:33puppy's skin as a canvas or something. It was
- 49:35a very disturbing sentence she said. To be fair,
- 49:39crazy. And a pretty big step up from making a
- 49:44coat is just being able to use, like, puppy skin
- 49:48as her canvas to draw more spots on, I guess.
- 49:52There's a bit when, like, she's starting, like...
- 49:54go back into like evil and she kidnaps a puppy
- 49:57and she brings it to the artist and he's like
- 49:59oh it's adorable i love this puppy and like cruella
- 50:02and jasper and horace are like absolutely appalled
- 50:05and shocked that like someone would like a puppy
- 50:07it's like a very funny reaction but they're like
- 50:08what's up this guy get a load of this guy liking
- 50:13dogs yeah like i say i think the the cruella
- 50:21and lars stuff and and her lackeys as well i
- 50:24think those are the best parts and yeah that
- 50:27that's really funny as well with um i think it's
- 50:31jasper the skinnier one where they do like that
- 50:34kind of cliche thing the cartoons always do it's
- 50:37like i'll dress like a woman and lure this guy
- 50:40so i can get his car um but like he just kind
- 50:43of like gives in and he's just like no give me
- 50:46your card it's like very terrifying like this
- 50:49man in drag just yeah there there are some like
- 50:55i say there are some funny moments that i i really
- 50:58i did enjoy that where he's just fucking gives
- 51:00up and he's just like give me the fucking car
- 51:03The thing that really annoyed me and the thing
- 51:06that made me... So there was something before,
- 51:08I can't remember what it was, where I was like,
- 51:10oh no, it's Scamp's Revenge. It was the part
- 51:15where Pongo is sleep talking and Patch goes over
- 51:21to him and it's like, are I just one of many?
- 51:26Am I not unique at all? And Pongo, fully asleep.
- 51:30The kid knows he's fully asleep. sleep talks
- 51:33and says 101 or whatever he says or like one
- 51:39of many or whatever Pongo counts the puppies
- 51:41so much that he counts them in his sleep just
- 51:45to make sure they're all there so you can hear
- 51:46him going before Patch comes over you can hear
- 51:49him going 99 or 100 and Patch gets there and
- 51:52he's like am I one of a kind or one of 101 and
- 51:56Pongo's like 101 pretty ruthless and it's that
- 52:01It's that shitty mishearing or misunderstanding
- 52:06trope again, where it's just like, oh, if you
- 52:13woke your dad up and asked him, instead of just
- 52:16sitting there while he's obviously sleep counting,
- 52:20you would know, and this whole situation would
- 52:24not have happened. You fucking idiot. It's a
- 52:28bit... What's the word? A bit contrived, but
- 52:32I mean, I didn't mind it that much. At least
- 52:36there's a reason for him to want to leave, a
- 52:38reason for him to feel an outcast as opposed
- 52:41to Scamp who had everything, had it to him on
- 52:44a silver platter, but it is a bit contrived.
- 52:48Yes, yeah, true. It's Home Alone. It's Home Alone,
- 52:53but then turns into a kind of buddy movie and
- 53:00then it just turns into 101 Dalmatians again
- 53:03and it's just it's boring man I was bored this
- 53:09this film's what is it it's 74 minutes this felt
- 53:14like I was watching it for four hours genuinely
- 53:18oh my god it just didn't end Andy, I was miserable.
- 53:26This was horrible. Did you like Jason Alexander?
- 53:29Yeah, he was alright. I liked that he was like
- 53:32a fucking little master manipulator. I really
- 53:36enjoyed that. I genuinely didn't really see that
- 53:40coming. And then when he was like, now I will
- 53:45be the face of Thunderbolt or whatever. I was
- 53:48like, oh, nice. And then they realistically...
- 53:54don't do much with that until later it's a weird
- 53:57kind of uh like he kind of gets forgotten in
- 54:00the mix for a bit like he basically tricks thunderbolt
- 54:03into going away which is the inciting incident
- 54:04for thunderbolt um but then yeah he leaves the
- 54:09mix and then he comes back and he's like it was
- 54:11me thunderbolt and all this stuff and like reverse
- 54:16flash it was me barry I liked his performance.
- 54:21I was as good as this little weasley dog. Yeah,
- 54:24like a proper little rat dog. Yeah. I mean, he's
- 54:28perfect for it. He's great. We know him. We love
- 54:31him. But yeah, I just... He was alright. Yeah,
- 54:38they did the Twilight Bark again. Yeah, much
- 54:40briefer, but they did indeed. they did the twilight
- 54:45park again can you tell why i don't like this
- 54:47fucking film but the twilight park was shorter
- 54:50this time i did feel bad for patch a little bit
- 54:53in this one as well um because it did feel a
- 54:55bit like i could understand why he's unhappy
- 54:58and uh i can understand as well like it's kind
- 55:01of evident that like he is getting lost in the
- 55:04mix because they don't realize he's gone until
- 55:06they see a cut out of him in the newspaper with
- 55:09thunderbolt at an event that's true I like that
- 55:13Cruella still has a cigarette in this. I thought
- 55:16that would have been banned at this point, but
- 55:17I'm glad it wasn't because it really completes
- 55:19her look. It really does. I think she would look
- 55:23so weird without it. You know what I mean? It
- 55:28would be like, there's something missing kind
- 55:30of thing. I do like there is a moment where she
- 55:35hears the Cruella de Vil song. in the car or
- 55:41the remnants of her car after she crashed it
- 55:44and she does the Homer Simpson kick the radio
- 55:48so the whole premise is Patch idolises Thunderbolt
- 55:57and they go on little stupid little adventures
- 56:02trying to Like, Thunderbolt's an American dog.
- 56:05By the way, the voice actor for Thunderbolt,
- 56:07great. I think Barry Bostwick smashed it. He
- 56:10reminded me of Nathan Fillion quite a lot. Oh,
- 56:14yeah, I can see that. Or Gary Cole. But I thought
- 56:18he was excellent. I really liked him. But, yeah,
- 56:25so they're... going along and trying to do heroic
- 56:28things and he's an american and he thinks that
- 56:31the paparazzi is going to be following him the
- 56:33entire time but he slowly well no he never realizes
- 56:38that the british press aren't like that in this
- 56:43in this universe they don't care about a dog
- 56:46doing heroic deeds yeah um So him and Patch just
- 56:51go and do these random little things. And Patch
- 56:55is like, oh, I know what you could do. You could
- 56:59do this from fucking episode 84 where you snuck
- 57:03in and you did this. And like he comes up, he
- 57:07pulls an idea out of his ass, which is the only
- 57:10way and the only reason that Thunderbolt actually
- 57:13hangs out with him. Yeah. Because he knows the
- 57:17show and he's essentially directing Thunderbolt
- 57:21to do these things. The idea is fine. I just
- 57:26wish, and I think it would have been a nice idea
- 57:29if... When he says these things, we could get
- 57:34a glimpse of what that actually looked like on
- 57:37the show and then compare that to how Thunderbolt
- 57:40actually does it kind of thing. So it could be
- 57:42a little flashback as Patch is describing it.
- 57:45Oh, where you did this. I don't know. I think
- 57:47it would have added something to it, but maybe
- 57:50it would have just been another step of doing
- 57:54this. But I just thought that whole, all of that
- 57:58part was so boring, man. I just did not like
- 58:02it at all. Yeah, I can see what you mean, to
- 58:07be fair. Like I said, I do like it more than
- 58:11you, and I liked it more than I expected, but
- 58:13while it was on, I was like, cool, this is a
- 58:18little bit of fun. It's charming enough. I really
- 58:21like the Corolla stuff, thanks mostly to Cezanne
- 58:25Blakeslee's performance. But again, if it...
- 58:30If we weren't doing this podcast and I was watching
- 58:32it and had a power cut and the film went off
- 58:35halfway through, I wouldn't be like, I need to
- 58:37find out what happens. I'm going to put that
- 58:38back on. I would just be like, well, that's gone.
- 58:41But the Cruella stuff is the most compelling
- 58:44stuff and the Thunderbolt stuff is fine to charming.
- 58:48I know the ending jumps the shark a little bit
- 58:50where, well, it feels like it jumps the shark,
- 58:53but who fucking cares? It's like a Disney movie.
- 58:57But, like, the dogs are driving, like, a car
- 58:58or something. It was like, okay, this isn't that
- 59:00much. Oh my fucking god, yeah, it's so stupid.
- 59:03They're driving a bus. And, like, doing it competently
- 59:08as well. Yeah, they don't crash it. And then
- 59:09there's one of them that's just, like, oh my
- 59:11god. Yeah, and then Patch just turns into a fucking
- 59:16superhero dog and manages to fucking fix everything
- 59:21and do everything really well and it's just like,
- 59:24okay, yay. What's the equivalent of a Mary Sue
- 59:28for a dog? A Mary Lassie. I can't think of a
- 59:33joke. Mary Lassie, that'll do. It deserves a
- 59:40shit one. It's a shit film. It's alright. It
- 59:44sucks ass. I do think the animation and Suzanne
- 59:49Blakeslee does a lot of heavy lifting for me
- 59:51on this one. And plus the fact I didn't think
- 59:53anything in it was egregiously bad. It was just
- 59:56kind of like mid to good for me. Yeah. But it
- 1:00:02is what it is. I hated this. Should we move on
- 1:00:09for your sanity then? Oh, God. Well, I mean,
- 1:00:13I feel like we've barely talked about it, but...
- 1:00:16We've talked about it for about half an hour.
- 1:00:17I don't know. Have you got anything else that
- 1:00:19you want to say? Not really. I think we've pretty
- 1:00:22much covered it. I think... What happens at the
- 1:00:26end? Cruella gets caught again and goes to a
- 1:00:29nut house. Yeah, Cruella's chasing them in the
- 1:00:32bus. The dogs get cornered in an alley and then
- 1:00:36something happens and then... Oh, Patch does
- 1:00:41the thing as an actual nice part where instead
- 1:00:48of Patch telling Thunderbolt to do something,
- 1:00:51Patch actually does... one of the things that
- 1:00:54we've actually seen before and uh it was quite
- 1:00:56nice uh he jumps over and manages to wrap up
- 1:01:00cruella and then she gets caught by the police
- 1:01:02after that yeah yeah she she goes to a mental
- 1:01:05institution um because she's now fully lost her
- 1:01:08mind um i did kind of like the idea that she
- 1:01:11didn't go to prison after the last one because
- 1:01:12she has money but Jasper and Horace did. They
- 1:01:18get arrested again. And two dogs, I think, if
- 1:01:22I remember rightly, two random dogs arrest Little
- 1:01:25Lightning. I don't know if they were police dogs
- 1:01:27or if they were just random dogs. This is a citizen's
- 1:01:30arrest! But I remember it ends very suddenly
- 1:01:40after that. It kind of hard cuts into credits
- 1:01:42and there's like, he did it, he's home. Yeah,
- 1:01:45the paparazzi come along and they're like, oh
- 1:01:49my god. Oh yeah, finally gets affected. Hero
- 1:01:52dog. Yeah, and then Pongo and Padita come along
- 1:01:56and then it's the end. Sucks. I think from what
- 1:02:02I've seen... which we'll get to in a bit. I think
- 1:02:06I'm in the minority, to be honest. I don't think
- 1:02:10a lot of people don't like this film. Yeah, I
- 1:02:13don't think a lot of people don't like this film.
- 1:02:16I think... I saw someone say that this was the
- 1:02:20best of the Disney sequels. Yeah, well, I know
- 1:02:23that reviews at the time said that as well, but
- 1:02:28also that was 2003, so how many were there really?
- 1:02:31Exactly, yeah. Again, I can't imagine people
- 1:02:34loving it like a Cinderella 3 or a Fantasia 2000,
- 1:02:39but I can imagine it being offensiveness. No,
- 1:02:43I can imagine it not being offensive enough to
- 1:02:45anyone's sensibilities where they behave like
- 1:02:48you do, to be honest. Yeah, yeah, I guess. So,
- 1:02:54that is bloody 101 Dalmatians Patches revenge.
- 1:03:03So, let's have a look at... Some trivia for this
- 1:03:08one. Actually, let's not because I have none.
- 1:03:10I only have one bit, which is Jock from Lady
- 1:03:14and the Tramp appears again in this one, apparently.
- 1:03:18Again. He's auditioning for the Thunderbird show.
- 1:03:21I can't remember why he appears again, but he's
- 1:03:24auditioning. Does he bark up a drainpipe? No,
- 1:03:28he's not. Or was that in the first one? I've
- 1:03:29told you three times he's auditioning. I didn't
- 1:03:32hear you the first time and then I heard you
- 1:03:33the second time and it was too late. Andy, how
- 1:03:41did this continue? Did anything else happen?
- 1:03:44Ah, yes. Anyway, let's put it into the ranking.
- 1:03:52This did continue in other ways. So, 101 Dalmatians
- 1:03:56had the sequel, but also is the... Not the earliest,
- 1:04:02but I think it's one of the very earliest examples
- 1:04:05of a live -action remake. I think Jungle Book
- 1:04:07has a beat just... I'll double -check that, because
- 1:04:11there was a Jungle Book in the 90s as well. Oh,
- 1:04:14yeah. Sorry, Jungle Book was 1994, so this isn't
- 1:04:17the earliest example of one, but 101 Dalmatians
- 1:04:21got a live -action film in 1997. 1996, even,
- 1:04:26sorry, which starred Glenn Close, famously, as
- 1:04:29Cruella. Hell yeah. That actually got a sequel
- 1:04:33before this. So that got a sequel in 2000, which
- 1:04:36is just called 102 Dalmatians, which is a title
- 1:04:40this doesn't say. Every time I go to say the
- 1:04:44name of this film, I always want to say 102 Dalmatians.
- 1:04:49Yeah. Because I think that's such a... That's
- 1:04:53such a good title, man. It's a better sequel
- 1:04:56title, but at the same time, I guess it would
- 1:04:57be inaccurate for this one because there aren't
- 1:04:59any extra Dalmatians. But you could have chucked
- 1:05:01one in. Little Lightning could have been a Dalmatian.
- 1:05:03Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And then following that,
- 1:05:07we also had the Cruella movie, as we talked about
- 1:05:11earlier with Maleficent. Cruella also got the
- 1:05:13same deal in 2021 with Emma Stone playing Cruella
- 1:05:18de Vil this time. And the movie is... fairly
- 1:05:23well received i watched it i didn't pretty good
- 1:05:26yeah i didn't care for it much at the time but
- 1:05:29i think it's worth a watch still for the costumes
- 1:05:32because corolla's like a fashion designer in
- 1:05:34this uh the performance of emma stone as corolla
- 1:05:39um yes There's also a few other good actors in
- 1:05:44it, like Emma Thompson is the villain. Paul Walter
- 1:05:47Hauser, who you probably recognize from things
- 1:05:50like Naked Gun and he's Mole Man in Fantastic
- 1:05:51Four, is Horace. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:58It's directed by Craig Gillespie, who's done
- 1:06:02I, Tonya before, and he's doing the new Supergirl
- 1:06:05movie. Oh, yeah. Legend. Weirdly, positive movie
- 1:06:11for people uh again i didn't really care for
- 1:06:13it much of the time um and i think trying to
- 1:06:16redeem this character's strange like i think
- 1:06:19i think in cruella there were a few times where
- 1:06:22she's like what if i just skin dogs just kidding
- 1:06:25and stuff like that and it's like okay come on
- 1:06:29that's what you're gonna do in the future it's
- 1:06:31obviously in your brain there i know i think
- 1:06:33origins like dalmatians kill the parents or something
- 1:06:36like that and it's like We didn't need that.
- 1:06:38Yeah, isn't it something where they, like, two
- 1:06:41Dalmatians push someone off a cliff? Or is that
- 1:06:43in Cruella that happens? Yeah, Cruella, yeah.
- 1:06:46It's like the Reichsbach fall from Sherlock Holmes.
- 1:06:50So weird. Fucking hell. 101 Dalmatians also had
- 1:06:55two series. So it had one that came out just
- 1:06:58after the live -action movie, the first one.
- 1:07:02Which is, you know, it's mostly based on the
- 1:07:04animation, but I imagine it's like... Trying
- 1:07:06to get the people who saw the new one in as well.
- 1:07:09And then when Disney Plus came out, there was
- 1:07:13one called 101 Dalmatian Street, which is whatever.
- 1:07:19It's descendants of Pongo and Padita taking care
- 1:07:22of 101 Dalmatians or whatever. I haven't watched
- 1:07:25it. Hell yeah. Would you like just a bit of trivia
- 1:07:31for you that I have? Yeah. Would you like to
- 1:07:35hear all of the crimes of Cruella de Vil? Yes,
- 1:07:39please. So, I just went on the villains thing
- 1:07:44because I must have had it up when I was looking
- 1:07:46up Cruella and stuff. But it has a list of her
- 1:07:50crimes. So, you know how it's also got the goals.
- 1:07:55So, you know, Bambi's mum says failed next to
- 1:08:00it. Cruella's is obtained the fur of 99 Dalmatian
- 1:08:05puppies to use for a fur coat. In brackets, failed.
- 1:08:10So, her crimes are abuse, animal cruelty, assault
- 1:08:16and battery, attempted mass canicide, attempted
- 1:08:21mass mutilation, attempted mass murder, bribe...
- 1:08:31Bribery, blackmail, child abuse. What? Ghoul?
- 1:08:37When does that happen? I have no idea. Oh, I
- 1:08:41wonder if that's in the... Are they referring
- 1:08:43to it being puppies, maybe? Maybe. Or maybe it's
- 1:08:47in the new show or whatever. She just randomly
- 1:08:50abuses children. Yeah, I guess so. Conspiracy.
- 1:08:55Apparently that's a crime? Like, conspiracy to
- 1:08:58commit a crime, but I don't think you can just
- 1:08:59call conspiracy itself a crime. Well, yeah. Yeah,
- 1:09:02exactly. Coercion, fraud, incrimination, kidnapping,
- 1:09:08negligence, psychological abuse, poaching, reckless
- 1:09:15endangerment, reckless driving, sabotage, smuggling,
- 1:09:19stalking, solicitation! Jesus Christ. Vandalism,
- 1:09:25terrorism, torture, and theft. Terrorism? Terrorism.
- 1:09:32Okay. I think a lot of these aren't real. But
- 1:09:37also, that's really funny. It seems like they're
- 1:09:40not real. She is in 101 Dalmatians. I did just
- 1:09:43take a look for you. 101 Dalmatians Street. You
- 1:09:45mean 101 Street. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She's
- 1:09:49played by Michelle Gomez in 101 Dalmatian Street,
- 1:09:52who's the mistress from Doctor Who. Oh, yeah,
- 1:09:55she's great. She's in Green Wing as well. And
- 1:09:59she's absolutely phenomenal in that. She's one
- 1:10:02of the funniest actresses ever. I think she's
- 1:10:06absolutely sublime. So, yeah, I think that's
- 1:10:09a great, great addition to the 101 Dalmatians
- 1:10:15Cruella cast. Seems like they only get bangers
- 1:10:19to play Cruella. Yeah, seems like it. And then
- 1:10:23there's a host of video games that came out as
- 1:10:25well, which is like activity -centered games,
- 1:10:28and there was 101 Dalmatians Escape from DeVille
- 1:10:31Manor, 102 Dalmatians Puppies to the Rescue,
- 1:10:34both of which use the original animation style,
- 1:10:37but it's based on the live -action more. There's
- 1:10:40Kingdom Hearts stuff. There was a Patches London
- 1:10:43Adventure video game. Yeah, the only one that
- 1:10:45I saw was the Patches London Adventure, which
- 1:10:49is literally... I think it said there were 29
- 1:10:52levels in it, and you just have to go around
- 1:10:55and collect... bones and stuff it's like a 3d
- 1:10:59kind of platformer thing okay one of them puppies
- 1:11:03101 two dalmatians puppies to the rescue was
- 1:11:05developed by toys for bob which is now the studio
- 1:11:08that uh is taken on the spiro franchise so that
- 1:11:12might be all right but it's also like two decades
- 1:11:15before they did spiro I was going to say, it's
- 1:11:18been a while since then. Patches, London Adventure,
- 1:11:24the PS1 game was done by Eidos Interactive, which
- 1:11:28is Tomb Raider people. Yeah, they used to be
- 1:11:32absolutely huge. And Digital Eclipse Software
- 1:11:36Inc., which I've never heard of in my life. Me
- 1:11:40never. This isn't a way that the original continued,
- 1:11:42but I think it is worth noting that... Disney
- 1:11:45have done two sequels to 101 Dalmatians now,
- 1:11:48and neither of them follow the plot of the book,
- 1:11:51which is the sequel to 101 Dalmatians called
- 1:11:54The Starlight Bomb. Yes! And in this book, the
- 1:11:58dogs wake up one day to find out that, other
- 1:12:01than dogs, no other living being can be awoken,
- 1:12:04so the dogs have to start to run the world. It's
- 1:12:08crazy. I love it. They communicate through thought
- 1:12:13waves. One of the dogs is now prime minister.
- 1:12:18And isn't there a thing where Pongo has to sacrifice
- 1:12:22himself so humans can come back or something?
- 1:12:26Oh, I don't know about that. I just had a look
- 1:12:29and then it came up saying the end of the story
- 1:12:32is... Pongo saying, one day perhaps dogs will
- 1:12:36be ready to leave Earth with him, but for now
- 1:12:39they're content to be owned by loving humans.
- 1:12:41That's it. There's something about that. So I
- 1:12:45guess he goes to space in the end. So, towards
- 1:12:49the end, after the twilight barking, which I'm
- 1:12:53assuming is the exact same thing. Wait, they
- 1:12:58talk via twilight barking and thought waves?
- 1:13:03Oh, okay. In Trafalgar Square, Tommy, the cats,
- 1:13:07the Dalmatians, and the general meet with thousands
- 1:13:10of other dogs to wait. At midnight, after a strange
- 1:13:14euphoric moment followed by a moment of terror,
- 1:13:17Sirius, the lord of the dog star, appears on
- 1:13:22Nelson's column. He explains to all the dogs
- 1:13:26that he is lonely and is offering them a chance
- 1:13:29to avoid the... pain of a possible nuclear war
- 1:13:32in the future however they must come with him
- 1:13:37of their own accord he assures them the world
- 1:13:40when it wakes up will not remember dogs ever
- 1:13:44existed and that all dogs will be free and no
- 1:13:48true bliss among the stars so this dog comes
- 1:13:53down Sirius the lord of the dog star comes down
- 1:13:57to earth and basically says lads, you can come
- 1:14:01with me and you can come to wherever the fuck
- 1:14:05we're going to go, over in the dog star, and
- 1:14:08we're going to have the best time ever, but humans
- 1:14:11will just stay on Earth and also not know that
- 1:14:17dogs ever existed. What the fuck? That's mental.
- 1:14:23isn't it i really want to i really want to read
- 1:14:26it it sounds crazy apparently there's also a
- 1:14:29part where a persian cat suggests the cruel is
- 1:14:32probably behind no one being able to wake which
- 1:14:34is i guess it makes sense for a dog to think
- 1:14:37that who's just gone through that traumatic event
- 1:14:38or the cat even um but at the same time it's
- 1:14:41like it's probably that woman who wants to make
- 1:14:44fur coats who's put the entire world to sleep
- 1:14:45like i think it's a bit out of element of abilities
- 1:14:51But apparently she leads a group of dogs to Cruella's
- 1:14:53house to kill her before finding out that she's
- 1:14:55asleep as well. So they start an assassination
- 1:14:59attempt on Cruella. Oh my god, crazy. Yeah, I
- 1:15:05really want to read that. Alright, should we
- 1:15:07bloody put this in the fucking ranking machine?
- 1:15:11Yeah. Have we done anything else to it since
- 1:15:15last time? Because it's a Bitcoin miner now as
- 1:15:18well. Yeah, well, it's probably one of the main
- 1:15:22reasons of the climate collapse currently happening.
- 1:15:25We just keep it on in the corner. I say in the
- 1:15:29corner, it's in like a warehouse. It takes up
- 1:15:31the entire warehouse. We have to go over to it
- 1:15:34and just feed our thoughts to the machine. But
- 1:15:41I added a new thing where it now... put salt
- 1:15:48in fresh water like just the fresh water that
- 1:15:51we have um so yeah it's just actively being terrible
- 1:15:57to the world um and we won't stop we need to
- 1:16:03rank the films yeah What are our rankings, Andy?
- 1:16:08So we have four rankings. We start at the very
- 1:16:12top of something called Disney Classics, which
- 1:16:15is what we would consider a film that is on par
- 1:16:18with its original to be, or of that sort of quality.
- 1:16:23Something you could imagine Disney would put
- 1:16:24out and proudly call a Disney film. Yes. We're
- 1:16:29talking about films like... A Disney Classique.
- 1:16:31Talking about films like Fantasia 2000 and Cinderella
- 1:16:333 there. Following that, we have Diamond Edition,
- 1:16:37which is a film that isn't quite a classic, but
- 1:16:40it got a bit of a special treatment when it came
- 1:16:42out. So currently in there is just Santa Claus
- 1:16:452. What a picture. Following that, we have the
- 1:16:54straight to video category. So we're straight
- 1:16:57to video. We have Bambi 2. This is something
- 1:17:00where it's a bit more of an average film. It
- 1:17:03came straight out of video. It would probably
- 1:17:05appeal to kids who like the original and then
- 1:17:07you don't really think about it again. And then
- 1:17:10we have Bargain Bin, which is the films that
- 1:17:13we don't really think deserve the time of day.
- 1:17:15They go straight on sale. They're not worth paying
- 1:17:18for full price. And they are probably not worth
- 1:17:21watching at all. 99p in the bin. That's the home
- 1:17:24of films such as Return to Neverland, Lady and
- 1:17:27the Tramp 2, Scams and Revenge. And you fucking
- 1:17:31idiot, you've put Scams and Revenge. And Cinderella
- 1:17:362. I forgot. I genuinely forgot I did that. I
- 1:17:40just thought you forgot the name of it. What's
- 1:17:42it called? I can't remember. Scam's Adventure.
- 1:17:47I said it so confidently as well. I know. Oh,
- 1:17:52God. That's really funny. And Cinderella 2. Into
- 1:17:57the garbage. Where are you putting it? Well,
- 1:18:01where are you putting it? Because I think you're
- 1:18:03going... bargain bin yeah i think it should be
- 1:18:07lower than bargain bin do you think this is the
- 1:18:09worst we've done it's bad man the worst we've
- 1:18:14done though now maybe scamp's adventure is worse
- 1:18:18but i i would oh god i hated this bargain bin
- 1:18:23of course damn that is uh I'm a bit shocked.
- 1:18:28Painful watch, man. It sucks. It sucks. I don't
- 1:18:32see anything in this that could possibly be more
- 1:18:35offensive to you than Return to Neverland or
- 1:18:38Cinderella 2. Sucks. Fair enough. I don't know
- 1:18:43what it is. There's something about it that just
- 1:18:46pisses me off. And it's just, I really didn't
- 1:18:50enjoy it at all. Yeah. Fair enough. Where are
- 1:18:55you popping it, my boy? I'm going to put it in
- 1:18:58Diamond Edition, to be honest. I thought it was
- 1:19:00a step above the usual ones we watch. I don't
- 1:19:02think it was amazing. What?! Like I say, it's
- 1:19:08not one I would come back to. However, I think
- 1:19:13it was a step above the slop of Return to Neverland,
- 1:19:16Lady and the Tramp Scams Adventure, and Cinderella
- 1:19:182. I also think it was a bit of a step up above
- 1:19:20Bambi 2, because... It just felt like there was
- 1:19:24more effort put into the animation. What's happening?
- 1:19:30I think it's charming. I think it's... You know
- 1:19:34what? I think it would either be Diamond Edition
- 1:19:35or straight to video, actually. I was going to
- 1:19:40say Diamond Edition, especially you saying that
- 1:19:44if a power cut happened, Andy, you are the man
- 1:19:48that will watch everything. To the end, no matter
- 1:19:53what. If something new is coming out, you will
- 1:19:56go back to the originals. You will watch all
- 1:19:59the originals. There's no way that you are considering
- 1:20:02this Diamond Edition. You're pranking me, and
- 1:20:05I know it. Okay, the Power Cup thing was probably
- 1:20:08a bit harsh to say. I just mean, like, I don't
- 1:20:11know, like, if I was watching it at a friend's
- 1:20:13house and then I went home, I would... If a park
- 1:20:16happened, I'd probably put it back on. That's
- 1:20:18not Diamond Edition, baby. That's not Diamond
- 1:20:21Edition. It just feels better than the other
- 1:20:25ones, though. It feels a bit more charming and
- 1:20:27a bit more cared for and a bit more clean. I
- 1:20:31think I would put it low Diamond Edition, high
- 1:20:34straight to video. Oh, that's crazy. That's crazy.
- 1:20:40But I don't know where it's going to end up because
- 1:20:41we're different on this. Would you concede to
- 1:20:46a straighter video? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you can
- 1:20:54do that. And just for you, just for you, look
- 1:20:57at where I'll put it. I'll put it the other side
- 1:20:59of Bambi 2. This is just for you. I mean, we
- 1:21:02don't really rank it that way yet, but... Well,
- 1:21:06you were talking about like a high... diamond
- 1:21:10or a low diamond edition and stuff and that's
- 1:21:12how i kind of see it so yeah fair enough yeah
- 1:21:15we should probably do like a full -on rank and
- 1:21:18of everything like top to bottom at some point
- 1:21:20but uh yeah but yeah that's uh in fact you know
- 1:21:25what i have actually um been doing that on my
- 1:21:28phone as we've gone just personally we should
- 1:21:31do like a proper official one for the podcast
- 1:21:32but i'm just gonna see where i put this right
- 1:21:35don't take this the wrong way But 101 Dalmatians
- 1:21:392 is the third best one we've watched so far.
- 1:21:42Are you fucking kidding me? No. Are you kidding?
- 1:21:47No! Yeah. In my opinion, this is... I think it
- 1:21:53goes Cinderella 3, Fantasia 2000, 101 Dalmatians
- 1:21:572, Bambi 2, Return to Neverland, Santa Claus
- 1:22:002, Cinderella 2, Lady and the Tramp 2. That's
- 1:22:04my little ranking. God. Oh, that's depressing.
- 1:22:11So for me, it would be Cinderella 3, Fantasia
- 1:22:152000, Santa Claus 2. No. Oh, my God. It would
- 1:22:20be Cinderella 3, Santa Claus 2, Fantasia 2000,
- 1:22:24Bambi 2. Towards the end, it's getting hard.
- 1:22:27Return to Neverland, Scamp's Adventure, Cinderella
- 1:22:312, 101 Dalmatians. I'm shocked it's at the bottom
- 1:22:35of your list. I just don't find this offensive.
- 1:22:37I hate it. I don't know. I don't know. There's
- 1:22:41something about it that pissed me off and I just,
- 1:22:43I really did not enjoy it. Maybe another day
- 1:22:46I would have liked it, but there was something
- 1:22:48about it that just rubbed me the wrong way. I
- 1:22:52don't like it. That was another controversial
- 1:22:55Rankin. Yeah, we like when this happens, though.
- 1:23:01That's great. Would you like some letterboxd
- 1:23:06reviews? Yeah, it's always good when it's...
- 1:23:09Like Santa Claus 2, it's good to get an idea
- 1:23:11of what other normal people think after we've
- 1:23:14butted heads over it. That's very true. So, this
- 1:23:18is sitting at a 2 .8 average rating. That's respectable.
- 1:23:26Yeah, it's not too bad. It's middling kind of
- 1:23:29thing. 1 ,652 five -star ratings, so that's 6%.
- 1:23:35408 half -star ratings, so that's 1%. And it
- 1:23:42has 20 fans, so 20 people have put this in their
- 1:23:46favorites of all time. Which is insane. Who are
- 1:23:50you? You are insane. So let's take a look at
- 1:23:54some reviews. We've got Shafralas again. Three
- 1:23:58and a half stars. He said, like if Bolt was good.
- 1:24:03Oh. The film Bolt. And I've seen a fair bit of
- 1:24:10people saying that this is very similar to Bolt.
- 1:24:15Yeah, it is. I've never seen Bolt, so I have
- 1:24:17no idea. I've seen it. It is a bit like that.
- 1:24:19Oh. just minus like thunderbolt's entire story
- 1:24:23and this is basically bolt right okay jade talks
- 1:24:27too much uh also gave it three and a half stars
- 1:24:30uh and she said feels kind of like an early crappier
- 1:24:34version of bolt uh but it's still fun because
- 1:24:38i could watch cruella and martin short riff all
- 1:24:41day their scenes were hilarious everything else
- 1:24:44was okay pretty cute but nothing too special
- 1:24:47So between those two reviews, we've got one saying
- 1:24:49it's better than Bolt, and one saying it's worse
- 1:24:50than Bolt. Yes, absolutely. We have two and a
- 1:24:55half stars from Eliza, who says, this warped
- 1:24:59so Bolt could soar. So we've got another Bolt
- 1:25:03comparison. I did see a one and a half. There
- 1:25:10we go. One and a half stars by J Will. Forgot
- 1:25:14to log the final piece of my Cruella prep. So
- 1:25:19this person must have been doing a... Full unnecessary
- 1:25:26franchise watch. Oh, God. Two and a half stars
- 1:25:33from Sam Morrison. Why do they keep calling these
- 1:25:35things 101 Dalmatians and then fail to feature
- 1:25:38them in the majority, only showing up at the
- 1:25:41beginning and the end, just like Pongo and Purdy
- 1:25:43and the others from the first film? I had a smile
- 1:25:48on my face as things started out with all the
- 1:25:50familiar... Wait, this is way longer than I thought,
- 1:25:53so I'm not going to read the whole thing. It's
- 1:25:55too busy with new characters that don't make
- 1:25:57the events exciting. And I, for one, would have
- 1:25:59voted to stick with just the family and the original
- 1:26:01dogs. You know, all 101 of them. Agreed. Four
- 1:26:06stars from Retage. I really do miss old Disney.
- 1:26:13There we go. We'll leave it there because I don't
- 1:26:16want to... I will say, I don't necessarily think
- 1:26:20I would have reviewed this and I miss old Disney
- 1:26:22or anything, but something that I like about
- 1:26:25these Disney sequels on Disney Plus is that every,
- 1:26:29you know, the actual Disney classics have all
- 1:26:31had like the new intro added to them, the new
- 1:26:34castle logo. But these have got the classic one
- 1:26:37which we grew up on and it just gives me that
- 1:26:39little like, clugs my little heart. I do love
- 1:26:42it. I do love it. It's really, really nice. Yeah.
- 1:26:49Agreed. Anyway, that's that, isn't it? Is that
- 1:26:53all right? That's that. That's that. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:26:57It's time to wrap it up and get the hell out
- 1:27:01of here, I think. Time to go on our own London
- 1:27:03adventure. But first, we've got to say some thank
- 1:27:06yous, don't we? We do, yes, indeed. Thank you
- 1:27:09to Jotaron, who does our wonderful little theme
- 1:27:13tune. Yeah, we love it so much. A big thank you
- 1:27:18to our producer, Jordan G. And also, he also
- 1:27:24helped with the artwork and helped with the concept
- 1:27:29of the podcast as well. Yes, indeed. Who else
- 1:27:35do we have to thank? Andy, thank you for editing,

- 1:27:50until I do a new one. Well, no thank you. You
- 1:27:55need to hold me accountable because otherwise
- 1:27:58I won't do it. No thank you for you. And if you

- 1:29:51hoping that that will be the last of the delays.
- 1:29:54Yeah, we should be back on it. We're going to
- 1:29:57try and be a little bit more on it. I know that
- 1:30:01I'm... No, I'm not going to say that. Never mind.
- 1:30:05What were you going to say? I was just going
- 1:30:08to be like, I know that I'm a bit shit with my
- 1:30:11time or something like that. I thought you were
- 1:30:13going to be like, I thought you were going to
- 1:30:14be like, I know I'm always ready to record, but
- 1:30:17it's just whenever Andy comes. It's this fucking,
- 1:30:20it's this fucking guy. This fucking guy who just
- 1:30:23can't get his shit together. I thought you were
- 1:30:27going to drop me in the shit. No, I'm the main
- 1:30:33cause of it because I'm always busy. And then,
- 1:30:36yeah. Yeah, but we're working on things. Don't
- 1:30:40you worry. Look at us. We're just very smart
- 1:30:45with things. We're all smart. Hell yeah. But
- 1:30:49yeah, Andy, I'll see you after Ever After. I'll
- 1:30:54see you after Ever After. Take care of yourself.
- 1:30:57Take care, everyone. Bye -bye. Lots of love.
- 1:31:00Bye.
