- 0:08[SPEAKER_02]: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Grimalk and Land Podcast.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_02]: We're queer friends and allies.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: I hang on.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: We're true friends and allies.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: Gather to review and discuss the original X-Men comics in Concord, do you have Concord, New Yorker?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: I switched my intro today because we have the charming and lovely hosts of the brand new X-Men podcast.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: If you didn't know, you needed another X-Men podcast.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: Now you do.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: It is the X-Men True Friends podcast.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: A Joshua Catoan and Kyle Gibson.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: Both of whom I met in person, both of whom are lovely.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's a joy to have you both here.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: Let's open just by, I want to hear about the two of you in your friendship.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: Where did you become true friends?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle, it's your very first time on GraveWalkin' Lane Welcome.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_02]: Hey Chad, thank you for having me.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we met in college 20 something years ago and became pretty fast friends then and that has continued forever.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: Did you guys did you guys date in college?
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: We did not.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, okay, we wouldn't call it dating then.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, but it wasn't anything.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_03]: No, Josh Chad.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, we was never really a line we crossed.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: I once had a straight friend asked me like, how is it possible that two gay men can be friends and not sleep together?
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, do you have any female friends that you've never slept with?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, yeah, but not because I don't want to.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, okay, okay, we didn't say that.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Kyle, being your first time on the show, do you want to tell everybody a little about your comic book origin story?
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: Life-long X-Men fan group in the, you know, with the heyday of the 90s, cartoon X-Men relaunch, everything.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: I got into hardcore reading in the late 2000s around Messiah complex, and just had to read everything.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a big continuity nerd.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_03]: And so I talk about it in our,
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: minus one episode I put together a massive Excel road map of all ex books every solo mini series one shot spin off everything Xman related into this massive continuity map and read through everything I could get my hands on.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_03]: How have we not talked more?
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: I literally wrote the fucking handbooks.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: I have so many I know.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's not really, it's not, I need to clean it up so we can release it or do something with it, just somebody should get some sort of use out of it, but it's a mess, but it's so big, it's so much my life was consumed by the spreadsheet.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Josh, you have been on the Patreon a couple of times.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I believe this is your first main episode.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Am I doing that?
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: I've been upgraded.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think maybe, right?
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: Well, never an upgrade.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: Just a different experience.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to tell our main listeners a little about your own comic book origin story?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, awesome.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I am, so I was always a big reader.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: Comic books were part of that.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: My entry like a lot of little kids was Spider-Man, Superman, kind of anything I could get my hands on.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember kind of zeroing in on some of the X-Men stuff.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: What of my first comics was like, and Atlantis attacks crossover issue that is totally unremarkable except for the cover that is all the Marvel women.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: And me being like a small gay child was like those ladies are awesome.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: Look at all the boys right in sheer of figures all together.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly what it was.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: And they were sort of in Barbie poses too.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I was just like, but it had storm, it had Gene Gray.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: I zeroed it on them.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: I remember buying the 91 number one off the shelves with the five covers and the Jimmie art that was just gorgeous.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then when the X-Men cartoon came out in 1992, it was like Game Over.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was totally locked in X-Men fan for life.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: And like Kyle said, I've come in and out as arrows don't quite suit me, but I've always kept tabs and I've always come back and really since Cricot it's been all hands-on deck.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so the two of you form the hot queer X-Men nerds club in college together.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm assuming, and then have you stayed in contact all of these years?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: Or is it like a lot of people where like the pandemic kind of helped me rediscover my love of X-Men?
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: And now I'm like fully back in this world.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we've we've stayed in pretty close contact.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: We live on separate coasts now.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: So that makes things a little hard.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: But we always stay in contact.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: And we do a lot of cons together as vacation.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: So we can meet there and meet friends and hang out and have a good time.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's kind of a new thing.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: That was probably a post-COVID thing.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, hey, we're 40.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: Should we dress up as costumes and just run around with our friends for a weekend?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that sounds like a great idea.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_03]: We never fell out of touch after college.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: We have always phone calls and meet ups and I grew up near where Josh lives.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: So when I fly back to visit my family, I fly through the airport where Josh is.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: And he gets a visit with him and spend some time.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: But then, yeah, post-COVID, the world is changing.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: We decided we need.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think we talked about flamethron for a couple of years before we finally made it happen.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: And then that just lit a fire in us that, oh, this is a fun new world that we could be a part of.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is where we met you, Chad.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: We have a, which, that is where I met both of you, actually.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it's weird, because we know each other a while now, but I feel like I'm still getting to do the two of you.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: We have this, but a lot of time together.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: But I really enjoy your company every time you're always fun.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so I have a lot of creative energy.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: I put a book out.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: I made a film and then like COVID hit and I remember sitting down like what am I going to do with this energy and like really thinking okay I can intersect my job with like comics analysis and oh would be like handbooks and I got the idea for this like silver age show.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: I've been running the show for a while.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of work.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: I treat it like a full-time job.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: It pays me nearly nothing.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: But it's a really fun time and it's built in enormous community of friends.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: There's a really odd sub genre of queer, X-Men podcasters in the world that are all some of my favorite people now.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you guys have been in that kind of circle for a little bit.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: But tell me about the decision to start your show, Kyle.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we had this idea for sort of kicking it around several years ago.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: I actually found recently screenshot on my phone from one of the first conversations about starting a podcast that I had little to graphic to share.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just like, what our original, like, horny subject matter was.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: But it was a funny, we've got full rated X on this show.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's five.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_03]: It was fun to see what, like our original premise and like the original discussion many years ago, but we have talked about this for a long time and then once we went to cons and met you, met the homeless appear guys, just everyone and kind of fanboyed along as like groupies to the X-Men podcast community and just saw how fun it was and what like a good group of people that are
- 7:01[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, a few months ago, Josh was like, here, I have microphones, we're doing this.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: I have to come clean a little bit because really, I think it was the last time I was on your podcast, you asked me if I had anything to plug and I was like, yes, and I'm gonna give us a release date because if we don't have a release date, this is never gonna happen.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so I like, and I heard him say that.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: I kicked it to Kyle, maybe six months ago, and I was like, hey, we got a release day, like,
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get rid of it on this because we have talked about it for a long time and it was one of those things where it was like, all right, if we don't have a due date, this isn't going to happen.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: We're just going to talk about it forever.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: And what, what's the premise for your show?
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: So we called it exponential friends because we've been friends for like Kyle said over 20 years and we knew of the 1999 mini series.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: So the name is kind of a nod to that and our friendship, we like to call the podcast that focused totality of our friendship.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: So basically the idea is that it's a show until between the two of us sharing our favorite X things with each other and talking about it and reviewing it together and then that gives a great platform for our friends and other podcasters and creators to come on and just throw us their favorite X things that they want to talk about.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like while we both love the X-Men, we both love different parts of it or different characters and different storylines.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: So, and have a different history with it.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_03]: So, do we fund to see what, you know, it's been exciting to see what we've come up with of like what I want to show Josh, you know, I've made a long list and tried to narrow it down for what's a good first season.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good thing to share with him and we have a couple bigger episodes where we're going to try to, you know, bring in some friends and get their opinions and share a little bit.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: What I discovered on my show is early on.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: I had a particular premise.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: If you listen to the very first episode of my show, I have four local diverse friends and we talk about X-Men number one.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: But by issue two, one of the people couldn't make it.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: And by issue four, like almost none of them were making it.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: So it suddenly became me with different ensembles.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then there's an academic bend that hit at a certain point where we started doing the trials.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then I launched the Patreon.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I've kind of been running that format ever since.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: What I've discovered about a lot of X-Men podcasters is you kind of figure out what your show is as you go a little bit, which we sometimes see happen with television shows.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, now the word true friends, there's an X-Men series called X-Men true friends and it's funny because Claremont likes to give us gay relationships without quite calling them gay.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: And so we have all of that stuff with Kitty Pride Misty.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: So that's a cute little dig at the queer subtext to your show, almost a period still the best X-Men possible name for it.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: for queer shows, of course.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna toss some X-Men relationships that you guys, some unlikely true friendships, and let me get your hot takes.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Josh, it thoughts on a friendship between Gambit and Storm.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, give it a storm, let's weird, cause that one time, she was just a baby for most of it, which is a little strange.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I do always love when they changed her life.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: She wasn't a baby, she was a preteen, but yes.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: She was a preteen, but still, like that weird big-headed baby storm is always a little freaky to me.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: But I do love when they team up as like special feeling friends, which has happened a few times, which is always kind of fun.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they have kind of a deep understanding.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: There's like a playfulness that comes out in storm and he gets like very serious and seen by her.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: I love how serious they take each other.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I like their team up during the Curse of the Mutants Vampire.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't have like fine Dracula's body or something.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_03]: A fun little like Chris Pachalo art maybe issue or maybe just to the cover.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: I very remember like Storm and Gambit teaming up to do some vampire nonsense.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, okay, a Kyle thoughts on Guido and Jamie who's wrong guy in multiple minutes.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_03]: I like a I like a I like a big guy and like a funny little guy like a pair.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: A big funny guy and a little funny guy team up great great comedy duo funny high jinks.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Kyle your thoughts on the unlikely friendship between Emma Frost and the submariner who are they friends?
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they like to fuck.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: friends with them.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_03]: I guess that's like a friendship.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I like to get each other's goats.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_03]: They're both hot, powerful people.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: Why not?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: Those like fish and one serves fish.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: Josh, thoughts on the unlikely friendship between boom boom and Saber tooth.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God Remember remember puppy Saber tooth in the danger room era.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: There was there was some great Joe mad art around that area around that era of boom boom that I really like Yeah, I don't know if I'd call that
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: friendship it was cute her bringing like the little trays of food but then later on knowing that he's like totally faking it and yet again We'll get into this during the issue, but it's like saber tooth with a helpless woman that he's like threatening violence on to trigger somebody else is just like I don't ever really need to see that story line again
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I got one more for each of you because it's fun to think of the unlikely ones.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: Josh, the thoughts on the friendship between arcade and mojo.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know if any time Dave interacted off the top of my head, but I read the hell out of that issue because I love arcade stuff mojo too, but there's something about arcade.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: I remember it translates very well.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Mojo also, Mojo to the sequel doesn't have the the Panache of Mojo one, but there's something about like arcade murder world that translates really well to like little kid action figure play that I love does a kid and still have the kind of soft spot for that's like, oh no, storms in the washing machine, when did Mojo and arcade hang out?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I would have to get the references out.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: It has happened.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like they hang out.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's more like insanity in a comic book, but I kind of like the two of them teaming up.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_03]: I would, yeah, that's like a good like TD crossover ever.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_03]: Literally as I ask you the next question, I'll pull open my A-Data based and I'll find it for you.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, my final one, Kyle, thoughts on the unlikely friendship between Iceman and Habit.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: They both dated Laura.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, yes.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: And didn't have it make Iceman a body out of his own P.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_03]: He threatened to The number of times I've offered that to Kyle.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: Because we might ambitions in my fanfiction, he followed through with it.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I mean, aside from like the Polaris, they were very competitive with each other and like in the Austin run during that whole crazy Polaris time, right?
- 13:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think they are hilarious.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: Um, okay.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: The one I'm thinking of, okay, this is not the tangential to cannon.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: The arcade mojo issue that really pops into my brain first is a little known one shot from 1998 called pint sized x babies murder rama number one.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: It looks so good.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: I have an ex-baby's episode out there, or if you want to go listen to more of my analytical thoughts.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we're going to be jumping into the world of Logan Shadows Society.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: A Kyle, let me get your general thoughts on Wolverine origin stories.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: We have the mystery of his origin for so many years before the early 2000s, House of M story that restored all of his memories, right?
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: So this book, which comes out in 1997, falls into an era where there's a lot of
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of like Wolverine one shots that are adding additional layers to his backstory and you never know quite where to put it if we have to know I really looking at like reading the story and the art I would have thought it came out.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_03]: post Wolverine origin like reveal.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_03]: I did not guess this was a mid 90s or I guess mid to late 90s story It just kind of has the vibe of nearly 2,000s and either tell you all and either of you read this one before Yeah, I got this book out of shelf.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: It was at a higher price point books were like two to 250 back then or over size books were like four bucks This was a six dollar book unlike a little bit like heavy or card stock with like a finer paper quality
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: I remember being like six bucks, you know, because this is in the era where I worked in a comic book shop, and they paid me in comic books.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's a whole story.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: I showed before, so I had an hourly rate.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: So this was like a full two hours of work to get one issue, damn it.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_03]: Did you read, had you read this back then?
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I have the whole fucking collection.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I, this, the art is really surprising at it.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's really fun and you need.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I, I think I read it or skimmed it during my big X-Men read through.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm pretty sure this was crossed off, but I don't really recall.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_03]: That was a couple of years ago, and I don't know.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_03]: It didn't stick with me, but rereading it for this and re-closely.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: I like that a lot more and when I,
- 15:57[SPEAKER_03]: First kind of flipped through it to see like what are we, what is this Wolverine tail worth flipping through I the art on like first glance is not sure if I was going to be into it, but I loved it okay everybody we're going to be reviewing Logan shadow society set in February 1997 not said it released in.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: Howard Mackie is the writer.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: We know him from a ton of X-Men books.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: You may think of Mutant X, very first.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: A Tom Coker is the Penciler on this book.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Tom is an interesting Penciler.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's a moodiness and kind of just a larger than life character portrait, but it's very artistic.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: X-Men fans may recognize him from the same era of doing Wolverine, the anniversary, Wolverine under the boardwalk.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: for the generation x Dracula annual.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_02]: The incredible Keith Aiken is the anchor on this book.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's done a ton of work all over the place.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: A Christy Shield incredible painter is the colorist.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: We've got Emerson Miranda who worked on so many X-Men books as the letterer and then Mark Bernardo, Mark Powers and Dan Hosick are the editors on this book.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: Mark Bernardo, I recently had on the show, and Mark Powers did a ton of editing, Dan Hosak had a very short career at Marvel, like nine books, I don't know much about his story, but there's not a lot of history.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: We open on Neil Langrum, who was on the US Canadian border smoking a cigarette.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's tired of all the secrets his job requires him to keep.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's been working for a deep secret government program regarding mutants and even like Parliament in Canada doesn't know about this secret
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's facing a big decision which seems akin to him kind of being a mutant and seeing like being just ready to come out.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's waiting for Logan to show up on a mission, but Saber Tooth shows up.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: We're in the shadows.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: We don't quite see him.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's the big Boogie Man zombie in the background.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: And guts this man from behind.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of a creepy thing to see Saber Tooth show up.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's a message for Wolverine.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming after his old foe.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk more about that relationship in just a moment.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: Josh, what was the first time you smoked a cigarette?
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh God, I think it was 15 and at my first job and found out that if you smoked cigarettes, you got 15 minute breaks and I was like, sign me up.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle, have you ever been to the US Canadian border?
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I went to on an eighth grade field trip to Niagara Falls and maybe Toronto.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think we did crossover.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then lastly, Josh, what are your thoughts on the sound effect?
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: Shrip when you're seeing your character be invisorated on the page.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I was just looking at that.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: So like you said, Saber 2 is in the shadows here.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how specifically you're supposed to know it's him, but the hints are there.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: But the shrimp is is pretty gross.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's its own panel framed in red with just a kind of not even just a blood splatter.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty visceral kind of thing going on there.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: So, for, for books.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm getting ready to do a Saber 2th month on my show this fall.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, for people going to the uncanny experience,
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I'm learning how I have to get a vibe for a character and the character at the time when they are created has to be how I read the character forward, even though different people interpret him in different areas.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: Saber Truth first shows up in the mid 70s as an iron fist villain and he's kind of a larger than life creeper.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: But this is very much a martial arts film from the 1970s.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: If you've ever seen any of those old kung fu movies, there's a whole era of Hollywood where Marvel really imprinted.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I think of Saber Tooth in terms of an old 70s martial arts villain.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: But then we get into that era in the 80s and movies.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: We're so many of the bad guys.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're just the big fucking creepers who were going to like rape the girl.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking of like bif in back to the future as a weird template for this, but there's just that big jerk that has to be punched in the face and it's treated almost comedically in the movies.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: You see this in all of these old films, these characters that do these deeply offensive things But they're kind of entertaining, but you also know they're just there to get punched, right?
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: Saber tooth comes across like that guy and then at a certain point they make him very very scary.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: This is serial killer creepy.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: I delight in murder, era, saber tooth.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_03]: Kyle, how do you read saber tooth often?
- 20:11[SPEAKER_03]: I like describing saber tooth as the Bifthan and of the Marvel universe.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_03]: I kind of miss that version of him, but I'm hands off her Bifthan.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: And he kind of works, I mean, I guess that's what you can use as like a knockoff clone version can just be like the goofy kind of goofy villain, but I do like scary saber to I like when he is just an unrepent murder who is redeemable although I did kind of like I do like like age of apocalypse saber to like I like seeing a variation of him and what he could have been, but
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think Marble University, I like when he's irredemently evil, but I really dislike when they do the rape slaughter stuff.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't have to be that.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like he can just be like a violent asshole.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't have to be like a sexual predator like freak like that's unnecessary.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can just like claw up some people and eat that like.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: whatever.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: So as we are on the opening pages, there's a middle-running sequence of a television show called Stranger Than Strange, a host named Patrick Hoolin, is interviewing Dr. Perry Edwards, the author of a book called The Shadows Society.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: And this is very much the curing on like like conspiracy theorist.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: This man has wrote written a book about a secret population of
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to, we're going to see Dr. Perry Edwards a little bit later.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: So remember this guy, but the title of this book is shadow society.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we jump over to half brow liquor in rundown Toronto and Carol Danvers is here.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you guys are big Miss Marvel fans.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: I love this character Captain Marvel.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: She's deep undercover as misdannuals and she has a case full of money to buy weapons from arms dealers Jacques Preen and this man does not look like his grinder profile picture like you show up and this is not who you're expecting to see
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's great.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: She's in this little leather blazer.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: She's a CIA agent at this point.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the aging of her is a little vague in this issue, but we're supposed to assume she's pretty young.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: She's like you said she's got a suitcase full of money.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: She's kind of undercover.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: And this arms dealer that she's meeting at this restaurant half of his face is deeply scarred.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: But in a really sort of like sketchy artistic way, it's a pretty cool look.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: Her, I like how the artist does not overly sexualize her.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: She's giving very, like, slicked down.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, this is Kim Basinger, you know, you put her in a jacket and make her a secret agent.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: And the art makes it really fun.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: Let's address the sliding time scale of it all, if anyone knows that term.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: Carol Danvers, and if you haven't heard my episode on Ms. Marvel number one with Paul Jenkins and Annie Nissenti, it's incredible.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: Please go listen, that Carol is a 1960s character introduced as the head of an Air Force division, and she's working security in the book of Captain Marvel, who has a he's an alien superhero, who has a secret identity as a scientist on this base.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: And she's treated pretty seriously, but at a certain point, she becomes a little bit of a gag character.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: They start like every time there's something she loses.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like she gets a promotion, but then loses it.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's like kind of a gag about her trying to be a career woman, but still needing to be rescued.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's entertaining.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: And then they bring her into Ms. Marvel number one.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: As this, you know, she's been powered up by the psych magnetron.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: Now this character's gone through a lot over the years.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: But there's an interesting gap in her history.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: So we have the Air Force stuff and we're led to believe that there's a whole era of her life where she's going on secret missions for the Air Force or like partnering with the CIA.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: There's not a ton of stories, but occasionally we get this era of her history referenced and often it's in a Wolverine story.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: The two of them team up in Madre Pork.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about them a little bit in my review of Wolverine minus one a long time ago on my show.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: But speaking of a certain kind of true friends, these two are an interesting one.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: Where this fits into the Wolverine chronology, he says at the end of this issue, he's gonna go back in the Arctic to live with the wolves.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: So we're led to believe, I think, that this is just before he gets captured and given the Adam ManTM.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: So there's an era of history that we have to kind of retcon where he's like a Canadian government agent who fought in different wars, but also lived in Japan.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: And then he ended up back in the Yukon.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: He fucked Sabertooth's sister once and he killed Sabertooth's brother once.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of just, there's a lot of continuity all smooshed together because they're different stories that the writers don't really consult on.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: And you just have to make it fit.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: So it could be aggravating.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle, do you have thoughts on the Carol Danvers Wolverine friendship?
- 24:55[SPEAKER_03]: I like their friendship.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: I like seeing this time period for both of them.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_03]: I would read the many series of their kicking around doing secret agent missions.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so uh this arms dealer realizes she's a double agent.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: They draw their guns.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: Uh he turns around to call all of his men.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: And all of them have French names and they're all dead or unconscious because Wolverine's
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: Jove, we're only missing up here in this group.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: Wolverine doesn't have a key closet in this, but he does have blades.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_02]: He shows up to the mission, slick back, pointy Wolverine hair, sunglasses, tight, tight, tank top, tight, tight, black pants, and a blade in each hand.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: Again, it's giving very kung fu.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: This is a sexy, but also kind of odd.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_02]: Look, I'm like, oh, does it, do I like this?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: Do I not?
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so it's a full page reveal when we finally get Logan.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, this is 1996.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: So he's got like the oak leaves on that anybody from the 90s will remember.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, the tank top, the knives are like not just knives.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're like cool knives.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: And his hairs got he's got this like reverse yarn flux.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: thing, like where his eonflex had the curls that came down around her chin, his just kind of like shoot back.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of a strange variation of his regular hair.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think probably intended to make him like less crate.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's a crazy look that we've all come to, like assume his normal Wolverine's hair.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: Can you give us this dialogue on this page?
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he says, my name is Logan.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: Some have said, I'm the best at what I do.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: And you are about to fight out exactly what it is that I do.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: So Carol's shock to see Logan here is not supposed to be there because she was supposed to meet up with that agent at the beginning who got murdered, but Wolverine got a call that that guy was missing so he has come in it's a United States agent teaming up with a Canadian agent because now agent, Langrum is dead.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: So they decide to go out for drinks together.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of fun banter between the two of them as they disagree about tactics.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's some moments where they're contacted.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: So at one moment, he says, come on, Carol, talk to me.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: You look like your best friend died.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I know that ain't the case because I'm standing right here and feeling just fine.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like this apply implies a deep level to this friendship, which I think is very cute.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: They get the news that Langram is dead.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: One hour later, we see them gathering with another agent, all of the new characters in this issue are dead by the end.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: So you don't have to really remember them off.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's completely okay.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: This is a guy named Sidney Hallerman.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, you know, basically Langram's probably dead because it's his own fall.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: And Wolverine is pissed.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, you mother fucker.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I will cut you and kill you.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't care if you're my boss.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: And feel you dare insult my friend Langram ever, ever again.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: Then we see a guy named Agent Malcolm come in.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: Malcolm is like, well, I'm your new boss.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, he seems to not take this very seriously this whole investigation into Langram's death.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: So we now have the Insighting Incident to get Logan and Carol to team up and go find out what happened to their friend.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: We shift into Logan's apartment.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: and the two of them are really cute here.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: If I read Carol, Josh, will you read Wolverine?
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you, Carol, the whole thing stinks.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Malcolm never should have let me walk away like that.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: He knows more than he's admitting.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, Logan.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: One of your best friends was killed.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: You're drowning your sorrows in the bottle.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: You're bound to see conspiracies all over the place.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's the booze.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: Fine, drunk kid.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, why is that?
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: You drink like a fish and it never seems to affect you.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: been blessed with an excellent metabolism.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: Look, kid, there's things going on here that, well, that I can't even tell you about.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: Neil and me were on a some pretty serious stuff.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what got him killed.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm about to do something which could be viewed as legal.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, I'm a big girl.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm staying besides you're making me curious.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: Now we're gonna learn Logan knows he's a mutant, but he's never come out to Carol.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: And we have this whole thing about governments with secret agendas and mutants, Canada and the United States.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: for fucking sure have their programs, right?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: So do Russia and Genosha and all of these other countries.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: So they try to look into some tech, but the computer explodes for reasons.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: And then he's like, do you wanna go on the mission?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, nah, I gotta leave in the morning.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'll see you later.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_02]: I love his tight tank top.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: I love her lounging in the chair in this art.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's really cute.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_02]: A few minutes later Wolverine is almost taken out by some snipers and this is the most laughout loud moment in this whole story.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: He goes nine millimeter silencer.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: There goes my decor.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: A wild thing.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: His bed is all shut up.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: He's up, he avoids going shot, he bursts down a door, he rushes out onto the alley.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: There are some men here to kill him.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: He jumps through a window at a crazy panel with him like flying into the sky like his Peter Pan it looks like, and then he runs to the payphone.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: to call for some support.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: The guys are after him.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: He takes them both out in a fun combat sequence and then rejoins Carol in her hotel where she has taken down four people.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: He only had to take down two.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, what took you so long?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: he goes for, they only sent two for me.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously they knew who wears the pants in this partnership.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I love it.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_03]: I love a good chase sequence.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: The panel of Logan diving out of bed is amazing.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it's that.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_03]: Cat, cat, like cat falling off our roof, kind of move.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: I. Yeah.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: Carol, of course, gets bored coming after her.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: Perfect.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, she's very clear.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: My name here.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's very fun.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: Um, uh, okay.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Josh, have you ever seen strange brew?
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: No, Kyle?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: Strange brew is an old cult comedy film from the late, uh, I think the late 1980s.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: Rick Moranis is in it for sure.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember the cast.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: There was some signature lines from this film.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: I went to high school in potato country Idaho and it friends would quote this movie all the time in school and this next little comedy sequence is just them doing strange brew.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's a tall guy in a short guy dressed in stupid Canadian hats, and they're trying to do their job, and they're talking using jokes straight out of the movie.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: Department Age, what's that stand for?
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: Department Hoser?
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: Why do we draw this lame duty A stuck in the basement with the rats?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: Don't complain, A, it could be worse, don't see how.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: You could have to dress like all those, all the other hosers up above instead of getting to wear our own fine garb, A, guess you might bob.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a Doug you hoes are now let's do the rounds off.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: We go patrol in the empty halls without a Bruin site.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: What's this a looks like we little last a okay, so Carol's waiting, but this is literally hoes are an a and it's it's all straight from the movie.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: So any strange Brufans out there, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_03]: Well, now I need to watch the movie because I love her command.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: Moranis, so and now we have Carol, do you want to talk about her pose?
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: What is happening?
- 31:58[SPEAKER_02]: She's trying to distract the boys by being the sexy blonde, you know?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, fair.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: But so it's like, it's like a big bank vault door with like the giant wheel with the spokes that you turned open it and somehow she's like, half perched on top of that.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_02]: How does that look like almost like she's feral or something?
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: on and she's just like oh posing and they're like oh what you're talking about A so Wolverine sneaks in in another just hilarious panel uh this is giving me Jean-Claude Van Dam somehow this particular image where he's leaping down from the roof to knock these guys out so they sort
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: surrender, their magnetic card, so that Logan and Carol can get into a vault access a computer and download a file secret government file called the mutant agenda, which seems to be only a list of people who are targeted to be killed, and I'm not quite sure we ever learn why.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: We just know there's someone behind it.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a list of people ready to be assassinated, and now they need to go and save those individuals.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: The first one they have to go after is Dr. Edwards, the conspiracy theorist who wrote the book, and they Russian to the city, and this man is a terrible person for obvious reasons.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: They're trying to save this author that's only featured on like the Tucker Carlson show on Fox News.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're the only place he's the only place he gets a platform.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, oh, the mutants are after me because there's gunmen and he's a
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I knew it.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: There's a secret group of mutants trying to kill me.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: They try to get this man to safety, but he's just ranting about like the mutant hierarchy.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: Haven't you read my book?
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: I have a sequel planned mutants are everywhere and they're evil.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, is he wrong though?
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: Because my impression has been that he's kind of figured out that there's a lot of stuff happening in the background here and he's writing about it and he's on the list.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: My assumption is that everybody who's on this list is like about to express,
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: Bose this like mutant secret that there are mutants out there like we were talking about the sliding time scale it's hard to tell like for some reason This may be think of marbles that series where the X men show up and like our kind of I guess I think they're outed there by the the photographer guy who's in that anyway You wonder if like anybody knows anything about mutants yet in this current world that we're reading about now and that he's really cracked the case that they even exist in the first place
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's, uh, it's very the man with the cigarette and ex files, right?
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: There's the conspiracy and there's that secret man running the conspiracy who has to kill anyone who knows the secrets.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: If you guys don't talk about it, so it's giving them that.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_03]: So they're basically like prove to us that you do have like this mutant agenda.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_03]: And he takes them to the Hellfire Club and the Hellfire Club admittance and membership is by invitation only.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Only those who are among the wealthiest and most powerful movers and shakers ever receive those invitations.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: No one turns down membership.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: To do so is do exclude yourself from converting with others in the social, economic, and political elite.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: What does it have to do with mutants, Esks Carol?
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: And please notice in this panel how Logan is shorter than the others, which is always should be.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: Oh.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_03]: Agreed.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: Edward says.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_03]: Among amongst the highest ranking members of the Hellfire Club are super powered mutants.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_03]: How do you know this doc?
- 35:09[SPEAKER_03]: I have my sources sources who tell me that mutants are planning a purge of what's called the inner circle of the Hellfire Club.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_03]: And this is a bad thing.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: My source before her on timely death came upon information which indicated the power of these mutants craved reaches far beyond the boundaries of the Hellfire Club.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: That and the fact that you tell me that I have been
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, so Wolverine says I'm going in.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: We need to figure out what this place is.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: And Carol's like, dude, why is this so important?
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: And he was like, the mutant things very personal to me, like, very personal indeed.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then I do not like this moment because I do not feel like this is their friendship.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: He kisses her on the lips.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: I do not see these two as fuck buddies.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't fit for me.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: I don't like it.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: So he's like, you know what, go find a new dream, forget all about me, take care of Dr. Edwards.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going inside.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: And he tries to walk right in the front door, but is literally turned away.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_02]: And as he walks away, who do we see entering the club himself, Mr. Josh?
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so it is with foreign words and dad's name.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Worthington.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's Warren Worthington the third.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: The angels.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you're right.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: This is Warren.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: We're doing to Jr. his father.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, looking very blond and his little like short suit, high socks, little boy, care of face.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's giving very joffery from Game of Thrones somehow.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's sort of a timestamp.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: So this is like free teen young boy.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_02]: Father, what is the Hellfire Club?
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: You've learned in due time, Warren, and due time.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: Tonight is simply about enjoying the party and the company of others and up of our standing.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_02]: And little, little Warren, more than 10 gets to go inside.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a, there's a fun little easter egg in nugget.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_02]: We get some fun panels of Wolverine scaling, the building, breaking in, accessing the computers, the Hellfire guards, like those weird little masks,
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: guys come in and attack and we get another action sequence with him punching people outside of the party.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: The people who are trapping the fancy party inside literally just close the curtains.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's a cute little moment where when Wolverine's crashing into it, he says, if I have to do something like this again, I'm going in through the sewers, which is basically like a reference to the dark Phoenix saga when he goes through and tears up all those guys in the store, which I thought was cute.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, yeah, it's a
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: So Carol joins.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: She is hopping from wall to wall with a machine gun in heels.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this this bitch is do it just fine and from the window We have a moustache owed Sebastian Shaw watching you almost want to assume this is Jason windguard the mastermind But but Sebastian Shaw is inside and somehow I don't know he's trying this old time you must stash out and it's just it's not working for him I think
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: Say what do you think isn't here as well?
- 37:54[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Sebastian Shots says will he take the bait count on it?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: The run is good enough to follow the trail I've given him.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_03]: He'll be there.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: He does show some initiative.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: You don't think he could be persuaded to work alongside you for me.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_03]: Not a change.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: then do what needs to be done.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: This one-man jeopardizes everything I have worked to accomplish.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: The entire inner circle is within my grasp and after all, it is imperative that the existence of mutant kind not be made public until I and my compatriots are ready to act decisively.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: This entire operation has turned into a debacle.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: He salvaged that which you can and clean up the rest.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_03]: Can't think of anyone I'd rather clean up, Mr. Shaw.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: majors have got a major score to settle.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, three thoughts very quickly.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, we have not talked about the Hellfire Club much on my show yet, but we did do a script read of the classic X-Men story that shows Sebastian Shaw having the leaders of the Hellfire Club murdered and gunned down and then he takes over.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: So he's ready to seize powers, what he's saying here.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: Second, we have Saber Tooth and I hate.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: I love the artistic license, but I hate when they draw his claws like this.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: Joshua, it's so bad.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's so bad.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's giving that man in the Ripley's believe it or not who didn't cut his fingernails for 70 years.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know that?
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's really uncomfortable.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's Lady Death Strike from X2.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: How long are these claws?
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: They're like the size of a full kitchen blade.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like eight inches.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah eight eight to 10.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: Some things are great in the eight to 10 range.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: Saber tooth claws are not not fingernails.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, wow.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: You so okay.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: So we're now back near the Canadian border.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: We've left the Hellfire Club and
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: Creed has lowered Logan and Carol into a trap.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_02]: They walk in on him and find the corpses of everyone that the man with the cigarette who in this case is Sebastian Shaw, the secret mutant agenda guy that was being written about in the book.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: So Edward's the author is dead.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_02]: Those two men from the Canadian government are dead.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's a whole pile of slaughtered bodies.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: And as Sabritooth is just taunting with glory as he has his giant long fingertips that look almost like they're made out of wood here in the art.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: really horrifying.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're now in a slaughter zone.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go ahead and do the dialogue here on this next page, Saber Tooth grabs Carol by the hair, and the way he's drawn here with the light hits the like fur around his neck, it's drawn like almost like chamber who has that like glowing energy around him.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's the proportions of this art are beautiful.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: uh, Sabre Tooth says can't say I'm going to lose any sleep overseen you did though you and one other you two die and the people I work for will start building up it all over again seems like old times Logan you me and a frail let her go create this is between you and me.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but this is lots more fun.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_03]: I want you to be best that you're fighting best.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_03]: Want you to go out a while on me like you used to.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_03]: Think you're going to need a little inspiration, a little frail blood spilled on the floor.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_03]: Might be just what you need while you're fighting me.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: You can think about how you couldn't save her.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_02]: To how with you, I don't need anybody to save my life.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: Kill him if you want Logan.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_02]: but do it for yourself.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Logan, kill me.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: So she gets a mum where she kicks Creed in the stomach.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, there's a read on Creed and Logan, that's queer, there's a read that there was that one time that they were working together and Logan went berserker and fuck him so hard.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: And now every time, he goes, it was on Logan's birthday and now Creed is just trying to make that happen again and again every time.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a really jarring day.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: When you read it queer because he uses a lot of dialogue about like I guess I got a killer woman to get you to fuck me again, buddy Here I am Yeah, what you to go all wild on me like you used to I don't think I've ever viewed the Wolverine Saber two thing through like a queer Oh, that's gonna change
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's very clear.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: Stay tuned for the trial Saber 2.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about this because there's a certain read to this.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: Logan does not know about his claws here for whatever reason he's been brainwashed a whole bunch He draws a massive crocodile done the blade and says that's what I had mine but not before I get you to tell me what this is all about
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: Sure run it.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: Why not?
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'll spill my guts before I tear yours out, but you got to admit one thing first.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: What's that admit who you are admit when you talk about it?
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's admit what you are.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's he wants him to say the word Faggot here.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: He really is.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_03]: And what you are, what are you talking about?
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: Come on, you go running around, looking into all this mutant stuff, but you won't even admit to anyone, even yourself, why you're doing it.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then it looks like there's a couple like I think there's some some lettering problems here.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking you'll shut up!
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: But it's drawn as Sabertooth, telling himself to shut up.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a dismembered bubble.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: So Sabertooth picks Wolverine, lifts him up in the air and says kind of scary looking in the mirror and realize in your different from everyone else.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_03]: Ain't it?
- 43:00[SPEAKER_03]: That's weird.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_03]: But that's where you and me are different around.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: I'm proud of no one that I'm different because I know that I'm better than the rest.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_03]: Explains why it's just so easy to kill them all.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_03]: We're both mutants Logan, unfortunately.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: In about another minute, I'm gonna be the only live one in the room.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: Fine.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: I am a mutant.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: So tell me why grew from mutants like the Hellfire Clebbled one other mutants dead dead.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_03]: That's what you think this is all about.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_03]: You think the people I work for were bothering to track down and gather mutants just to kill them.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: And what?
- 43:29[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a way to like Edward.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_02]: words book and like how mutants are going to form secret societies and there's certain plans in place for the future.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_02]: And we do have literal characters like destiny, manipulating events.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: We've got ballerver, trash building the sentinels, we've got Xavier, we've got juggernaut, we've got the exiles, all the retroactive continuity puts a sleed and apocalypse in all this intense world history in all of this.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: And the Hellfire Club's inner circle is one
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: but so is weapon X and so is all of these other groups that were building okay now we mentioned a moment ago Kyle for you specifically you're like oh I've never read them as queer that that scene that we just read oh yeah now that that I I see it now just didn't admit you're a faggot of a faggot fight of a faggot what do you want it's faggot all those times I sucked you're
- 44:25[SPEAKER_03]: Go for Zerker for me one more time.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: Wolverine gets his massive blade and we get another full page shot as he just stabs Victor right in the gut raising it up in the air.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: The caption tells us for years after Carol Danvers would never be quite sure.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: It was if it was a cry of pain from Saber tooth.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: were one of Bistural Rage emerging from the depths of Logan's soul, but the sound that last the sound died away and the battle was done.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: Josh thoughts on this final full-page shot.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a great panel.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, like Severe Truth has this like main and the fur around his his forearms is colored like it's like it's glowing like it's an explosion like there's light behind it.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really cool thing in his face.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: is really good.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: Wolverine's got a lot of face in general in this issue.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: So he's sort of always half screaming anyway.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: The Saber 2 does not dead.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: Logan says to Carol, I don't think we should come forward with this to the public because I feel like it's going to orchestrate a man hunt against mutants.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: Mutants are not public knowledge.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you go back to the 1960s books, Xavier's mutants have secret identities.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: His school is not a mutant school.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_02]: And when Oliver Trask puts the newspapers out, he's like, yeah, there's a mutant threat that exists, which is what gives him the government funding for the sentendels, right?
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: So when you stack all this in continuity, remember that for just a moment.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: Saber tooth is like surprise bitches.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_02]: I have a bomb.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: He sets it off.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, they don't find his body afterward.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we have reviewed this on my show, but there's a weird story from the early 2000s where we have a book called The First X Men.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's a five-ish limited series set in the same era where a government program is hunting mutants and same or tooth and wolvering team up to save a group of kids from the government and call them the X men.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: Saber tooth bucks an 18-year-old girl named Hollow who ends up dying, and at the end of the series, he's like,
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: Fuck you Wolverine, I'll never forgive you for my girlfriend dying, basically.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: That fits into this weird, same era.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Ball of her trash is heavily featured in that book and Charles Xavier at the Magnetos in it and Charles Xavier at the end is like it's time to open my mutant school.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: So all of that is set in this same era and this is where the continuity gets very confusing Kyle thoughts.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, I also think I read that, but I did not want to, so it was like a
- 46:49[SPEAKER_03]: interesting piece of like Wolverine continuity.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_02]: So we end with the two of them checking in on a phone call one month later.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_02]: Wolverine's healing.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_02]: He hints I've always been a quick healer.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_02]: They don't really know what to do.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: Creed is missing Wolverine's like, or Logan is like, you know, but he's he's got something in this issue.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's Agent Logan, you know, call me Wolverine or codename Wolverine or whatever in one pedal.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's not going by the codename here.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, hey, you know, we went after that.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's like my reputation has been destroyed.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing's really going to happen and they kind of just and they're worried about the future and Carol says, you know, hey, there's this up and coming freshman senator that everybody seems excited about his name's Robert Kelly.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: which is a reference to the center from days of future past, which is another fun continuity dive.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, Logan's like, I'm gonna go back to the woods.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I'll forget all about mutants.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm maybe everything in a few years will be all blown over.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see teams of super powered mutants.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_02]: Even I can't buy that one.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: And then we get the end.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of work to put this into continuity.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I really enjoyed rereading this one shot.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle, do you have thoughts on the conclusion of the book?
- 47:56[SPEAKER_03]: I am glad that Sabritooth got what he wanted in the end to be stabbed by Wolverine.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_03]: He seemed very pleased by that.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I penetrated once again.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's just a big, heavy hefty blade right up his guts.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, no, I liked the reference to Senator Calvary.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: I think that was fun.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: Just kind of, oh, yeah, this guy's going to be a problem.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_03]: Carol, maybe you shouldn't reach out to this guy.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks, Carol.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a Carol as a character.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think kind of falls into a little bit of like conservative, um, well, like moderate conservative.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, you know, things are the way they are.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: And we got to follow the rules.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it's giving very, I read her a little bit as like, Mariska Hargite from like, lawn order SPU, where she just has a very, like, strong sense of civic and moral duty, but definitely follows a code that doesn't align with all interests at all times.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: This is interesting for her, for me to stack her up in this world here.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: Josh thoughts?
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, I love the the Senator Kelley drop where it was like, oh, you know, no one's listening to us about anything that happened.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we could put all of this like, you and evidence we have in front of Senator Kelley and like, no.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like it ended a little abrupt like I said, like we had said before, you don't get a whole lot of information on like what is happening behind the scenes here that everybody's trying to figure out.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: So then it just sort of ends and he's like, I got to get out of here.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, at the very least, we know weapon X plans are in place and we know some plans are in place, right?
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, that's department H is like, it's a department H. Yeah, there's experiments in Russia happening.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like what they call it again, genoxia has, you know, like there's so many things to stack up in the impression narrative.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: What a delightful issue.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: Loved it.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything in the issue you guys wanted to highlight or point out that we didn't touch on?
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a little surprised they named this book Logan Shadows Society as opposed to Wolverine Shadows Society.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_03]: You would think for like the mid-90s it would be called Wolverine to draw in more Wolverine, but he is not Wolverine yet.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_02]: So, right?
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's almost eating the, yeah, like it's an early years kind of thing.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_02]: And there were a series of few, one shots that started with
- 50:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we talked about it when we covered the X-Men true friends mini series.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_03]: The Wolverine, of course, makes an appearance because of course he does.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_03]: Of course.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_03]: And he's referred to himself as Wolverine in that and they are in 1936 and he should not be Wolverine.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he also has adamantium claws.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: And so you kind of have to hand wave it like we're 1936.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're not there yet.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, but again, he popped his claws as a kid.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: So it's the memory stuff.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes he uses the claws and sometimes he does it.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: He forgets he has him a lot of the time in these areas.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like I was glad that it was called Logan because this was so long.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I really enjoyed this and I love hanging out with two of you.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_02]: You have such an easy energy and it's just fun to be with the both of you.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: I really appreciate your time and it's great to get to me both better.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: I would love for you guys to pitch your show to our listeners.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_02]: What's coming up on X-Men True Friends?
- 51:04[SPEAKER_02]: Why should they listen?
- 51:05[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, what is coming up on True Friends?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: If you want to hear just some fun deep dives into very specific X-Men topics, uh, we've got to talk about video games.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're good on a big episode on trading cards.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_03]: Collect those flea.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my god.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: Trash cards in the 90s.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_02]: There's a binders of them.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll get John.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get John that one.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: We will be in touch for that.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's been, it's a fun little adventure to get to chance to talk to your best friend every couple weeks and just go for the hard into a subject we both love really really hard.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: Josh.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we release every other Monday for season one through the end of the year.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_01]: That might change for season two as I get a little faster with my audio editing skills.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, we're covering both like individual issues of comics that meant a lot to us.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_01]: Rotter things that we collected, like the trading cards, like we're doing a video game one.

- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, everybody, welcome back to another episode of Grey Malkin Lane's Expoze.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_02]: This is the content warning.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: We're about to get a little bit saucy.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: This is not one.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to listen to out loud, new your parents or children.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_02]: I have three of my friends who don't really know what they're stepping into today so far, but here we go.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_02]: Let me first welcome my friend, Taylor, back to the show.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_02]: Taylor, I have a simple question for you.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: Is Hank McCoy, fuckable.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_05]: Um, what era do I get to pick you you can interpret my question however you like I think early like golden age absolutely for coer not so much I have I have more standards Philip is also here.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_02]: Hello Philip is a hankma koi fuckable.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Chad way to start us off hot.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: I I will simply say yes.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have a favorite version the feeling sort of aspect.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_02]: Oh We've got a furry in the room for
- 54:54[SPEAKER_02]: And Joe is also here.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, Joe is Hank McCoy, fuckable.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, there's definitely people who probably would find him charming and elorean.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he has a string of love interests in the comic.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_04]: So he's he's somebody's taste for sure.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not mine personally more so because if the war criminal stuff you're like Dame Maggie Smith trying to answer a question out saying anything like one may say that yes, one could under certain circumstances.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if this is going to be used against me in a court of law leaders.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to have a category here called fuck date and bring home to mom.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_02]: When you think about the love life of Hank McCoy, who's his best fuck?
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, do I know enough about his sex life?
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of feel like Abigail Brand is the one that shows up in my brain.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like those two get pretty freaky.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, she is one of my least favorites after all the expert red stuff.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: Does picturing her having sex with Hank McCoy help you like her better?
- 55:51[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely not.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you mentioned one of his dates in the Golden Era era, or the Silver Age, that feels more appropriate.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Joe, the second one is date.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_02]: Who's Hank McOe best at dating?
- 56:04[SPEAKER_04]: I think I would probably choose Trish Tilbee, even though that was not a very good relationship.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_04]: I think they're both kind of awful for each other in a way that makes it almost perfect.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_02]: And Taylor, who should Hank McOe bring home to Mrs. Edna McOe?
- 56:19[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_05]: I love this little budding relationship.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I love their cute little birdie banter and then, of course, time travel got mixed in and made things a little more complicated, but that's the experiment we left up here a cantor, but she can do better.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we also left out that cat mutant that was like a cat also a mutant, yeah, he he made it with changing gray a couple times again, dazzler a couple times there's more and there.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_05]: It was always like looking back reading the comics from like a modern lens, looking at um, was Vera and Ice Man Zelda Zelda yeah, Vera and Zelda I'm like y'all ladies just took so much from these boys like shoulda dumped them early on because it was just far too much.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_02]: I really enjoy when you say things like y'all ladies.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: Joe, what are Hank McCoy's turn on?
- 57:18[SPEAKER_02]: What does he like in bed?
- 57:19[SPEAKER_04]: Well, apparently he likes cats, so probably some kind of scratching, meowing, hairball, action, I don't know, something like that.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_04]: But I actually I would be surprised like I could see him being like very sensual like lighting candles setting a mood like setting you know Kind of like the vibe like creating an atmosphere like it'd be that'd be the best part and then it could really awkward after that Joe without realizing it what you're trying to say is that hang the coin likes pussy
- 57:47[SPEAKER_04]: Well, allegedly he's gay or claimed to be gay turned on this man as a narcissist, right?
- 57:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like he needs to be the center of someone's world.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_02]: He has to be, you know, but they also got to like be cool with him being off with other people.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's very polyamorous, but like the kind that like he wants to date a bunch of people, but only wants the women he's dating to date him.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_02]: Does that make sense, you know, the type?
- 58:12[SPEAKER_04]: He would definitely have like multiple wives kind of thing going on.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think he likes to be brushed after sex?
- 58:18[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yeah.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_04]: You want nice smooth silky fur.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_02]: Taylor, what are Hank McQuiz turn off?
- 58:25[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, um, pop culture references in quotes.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_05]: I think there's more philosophical stimulation in all.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_02]: There's like a funny, there's like a funny phrase or story in here where he's like with some smart girl and they keep trying to out quit each other.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, he loses his erection as a result.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_02]: He likes a smart girl, but like not one that smarter than him right now.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like there's probably some sort of like joke in terms of like scales or like clothes.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_05]: There's that like something.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, nobody's setting all things.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but you got to assume that he wants this partner to be into foot stuff.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: There's big massive feet like from the 60s.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think like I'm trying to choose the footsies.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_05]: This is very much interesting to see.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_05]: This is very much turning into a dentship and crawler Carl chapter.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, oh here we go.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, this is a section we called what those powers do can hank do anything special with the following in bed a Philip super human strength and agility.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, there is there is potential there for all sorts of positions.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like we're supporting his partner in two different shapes.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think there's the monkey bar situation above his bed as well?
- 59:35[SPEAKER_00]: Probably he can hang from and they can do some sort of a very acrobatic carnal act of there I feel.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_02]: He likes the cute girl in glasses who likes to get freaky and they had this part.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like they got to be down, right?
- 59:47[SPEAKER_02]: He knows he's doing a good job when the glasses fall off.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: So what can we do with a razor sharp claws and fangs?
- 59:53[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I mean, obviously like some kind of like, you know, biting, nibbling, you know, like, um,
- 59:59[SPEAKER_04]: in erogenous zones scratching.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, like you hear that kind of expression like nails down the back like I hope that he's with somebody who can like regenerate like as a healing factor because like one wrong move and like it could get really dangerous to this plot.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_05]: Taylor, what can I do with the glue fur?
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_05]: I think, I mean, he can warm you up, right?
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_05]: Like, it's, I feel like that's a softer cutlier aspect of Hank McCoy.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like the blue fur is gonna come into play in the after-clove, right?
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_05]: The after-moments, the nice, nice, sweet bits.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_02]: There is that kind of like secondary mutation thing where he like changes from one monster form into another every once in a while.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_02]: That could that could be fun.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_02]: And then he's got that like feral side, right?
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like you unlock that like dark beast side of him, which can come out like evil saber tooth, but also can come out like evil science experiments, which are not welcome in my bed.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_05]: Well, first and magic to right like teen beast.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_02]: He recently cloned himself a bunch.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, now I sent out in our group text message, a little trip ticket of three people leaning into the cultural stereotype of the beast.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_02]: A little bit, you're answering for Hank McCoy.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_02]: Philip, this one first.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_02]: Fuck Mary Kills, Sully from Monsters Inc. Cookie Monster, or Huggie Wuggie.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_00]: I am not familiar with Huggie Wuggies, so I would off that one.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_00]: I would marry Cookie Monster, or Beastwood marry Cookie Monster, and Fuxley.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of think you did marry Cookie Monster.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_02]: I've met your husband.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_02]: Joe did you get it right?
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I think so.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_04]: I do kind of wonder if like the evil beast would kill Sully for some reason, just because he might be threatened by him in some way, but I could see them being a lovely couple.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, and then Taylor?
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a bit torn because I think I don't know if beats.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_05]: I would love if he marries and Amelia for love.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_05]: at some point.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_05]: I'm very much rooting for that relationship, but I don't have beasts is one who would really truly marry for love.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_05]: I think he would marry the one that he found the most interesting, like possibly the one that he could one day experiment on, close, you know what I mean?
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_05]: And so I almost think he might marry a huggy wuggy just so that he can, if he just finds him interesting and just, you know, what's he, how can he use this monster?
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what it is.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think Hank McCoy is the ex-man most likely to get more heart if he sets a picture of himself over the bed.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_02]: Also, if you've ever had a lover like this, he never stops talking.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_02]: He never stops talking.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like it would be incestant.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_02]: So do we have any final thoughts on the sex life that Hank McCoy?
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_05]: I think the clone were probably used for some very, very uncomfortable awkward parties.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, no thank you.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_02]: Well, much love everybody.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_02]: I hope we made you smile.
