- 0:00Welcome to Kid Cast Daily, where we bring news, trivia, fun
- 0:04facts, and more just for curious kids like you.
- 0:07Today, get ready to zoom into the fast lane, because we're
- 0:10talking about one of the coolest and most talented race car
- 0:13drivers in the world, Lewis Hamilton.
- 0:16Have you ever imagined what it would feel like to drive a car
- 0:19as fast as a cheetah running at full speed, Maybe even faster?
- 0:23Well, Lewis Hamilton does that for a living.
- 0:26He's a superstar in a sport called Formula One, or F1 for
- 0:29short. Formula One is a special type of
- 0:32car racing where drivers zoom around twisty tracks and super
- 0:35speedy cars, sometimes reaching speeds of over 200 mph.
- 0:39That's almost as fast as an airplane taking off.
- 0:42Let's buckle up and find out how Lewis Hamilton became such a big
- 0:46name in the fast-paced world of F1.
- 0:48Lewis was born in England in a town called Stevenage in 1985.
- 0:52That's not too long ago, right? When Lewis was just a little
- 0:56boy, he loved toy cars and remote control racers.
- 0:59Imagine being so excited to play with your toy cars that you
- 1:02dream about racing real ones someday.
- 1:05When he was just eight years old, Lewis started racing go
- 1:08karts. Go Karts are like mini race cars
- 1:10for kids and beginners. If you've ever been to a go Kart
- 1:13track, you know how thrilling it can be to zip around corners and
- 1:17race your friends. Lewis was a natural.
- 1:20He won a lot of races and people noticed how skilled he was even
- 1:24though he was just a kid. Here's a fun fact.
- 1:27When Lewis was around 10 years old, he met a very important
- 1:30person in the racing world named Ron Dennis.
- 1:32Ron was the boss of a big racing team called McLaren.
- 1:36Little Lewis told Ron that he wanted to race for McLaren one
- 1:39day. Guess what?
- 1:40Ron was so impressed that he promised to keep an eye on
- 1:43Lewis. And years later, Lewis really
- 1:46did race for McLaren. But let's explain what makes
- 1:49Formula One racing so special. Think of it like the Olympics of
- 1:52car racing. There are teams from all over
- 1:55the world, each with their own super fast cars and talented
- 1:58drivers. The teams compete in races
- 2:00called Grand Prix, held in different countries, sometimes
- 2:03even on city streets. The cars look like spaceships on
- 2:06wheels, with big tires and wings to help them zoom around corners
- 2:10without flipping over. To win a race, drivers need
- 2:13lightning fast reflexes, sharp minds, and a lot of practice.
- 2:18Lewis worked super hard to reach Formula One.
- 2:20He faced challenges and sometimes people doubted him,
- 2:23but he never gave up. He practiced, learned from his
- 2:27mistakes, and always tried to get better.
- 2:29Imagine training for a school race, but instead of running,
- 2:33you have to learn how to control a car going faster than anything
- 2:36you've ever driven before. That's the kind of determination
- 2:39Lewis showed. In 2007, Lewis finally got the
- 2:43chance to race in Formula One. He joined the McLaren team just
- 2:47like he dreamed. And wow, did he make a splash in
- 2:50his very first season. He finished on the podium.
- 2:53That's the top three in his first nine races.
- 2:56That's like getting a medal every time you compete.
- 2:59He even came close to winning the whole championship in his
- 3:02first year. But Lewis didn't stop there.
- 3:05The next year, in 2008, Lewis became the youngest ever Formula
- 3:09One world champion at the time. That means he scored more points
- 3:12than anyone else in the whole season.
- 3:14Imagine being the best in the world at something you love
- 3:17before you're even 24 years old. He won the championship in a
- 3:21super dramatic final race, passing another car on the very
- 3:24last lap to snatch the title. It was so exciting that fans all
- 3:28over the world cheered and jumped out of their seats.
- 3:31But Lewis's story doesn't end with just one trophy.
- 3:34He kept racing, kept winning and kept breaking records.
- 3:37Later, he joined another team called Mercedes.
- 3:40With Mercedes, Lewis became almost unstoppable.
- 3:44He zoomed past record after record winning race after race.
- 3:48By 2020, Lewis had won seven World Championships.
- 3:52That's the same number as another famous driver, Michael
- 3:55Schumacher. Only two people in history have
- 3:57ever done that. Here's a cool did you know
- 3:59moment. Lewis Hamilton has won more
- 4:02Formula One races than anyone else in history.
- 4:05That's right, he's won over 100 races.
- 4:08Imagine collecting 100 gold stars on your schoolwork.
- 4:11But each star is a racing trophy, that's how impressive it
- 4:14is. But Lewis isn't just fast on the
- 4:17track, he's also a champion off the track.
- 4:20He loves animals and has a pet bulldog named Roscoe.
- 4:23He's a big fan of music and fashion, and he often designs
- 4:26his own clothes. Lewis also cares a lot about the
- 4:29planet, so he tries to live in a way that helps take care of the
- 4:32environment. For example, he eats a plant
- 4:35based diet, which means he doesn't eat meat.
- 4:38And he encourages others to think about how their choices
- 4:40affect the Earth. Lewis has also inspired many
- 4:43people around the world by being one of the first Black drivers
- 4:46in Formula One. He's shown kids everywhere that
- 4:49no matter what you look like or where you come from, you can
- 4:52dream big and reach your goals if you work hard and believe in
- 4:55yourself. He's always speaking up for
- 4:57fairness and kindness, both in racing and in life.
- 5:01Let's talk a little about what it's like to drive a Formula One
- 5:04car just like Lewis does. Imagine you're playing a super
- 5:07realistic racing video game, but in real life.
- 5:10The car's steering wheel looks like a spaceship control panel
- 5:13with over 20 buttons and knobs. Drivers have to press the right
- 5:17buttons while racing at top speed, making split second
- 5:20decisions. They wear special fireproof
- 5:22suits and helmets to stay safe, and they have to be super fit,
- 5:26just like athletes in any other sport.
- 5:28Did you know that Formula One drivers can lose up to 8 lbs of
- 5:32sweat during a hot race? That's almost as much as a big
- 5:35bottle of water. The tracks Lewis races on are
- 5:38all different. Some have tight corners like
- 5:40hairpin turns on a roller coaster, and others have long
- 5:43straight parts where drivers go as fast as they can.
- 5:46Every race is a new challenge, and Lewis has to learn the best
- 5:50way to drive each track. Sometimes it rains and the track
- 5:53gets slippery, making the race even trickier.
- 5:56But Lewis is famous for staying calm and focused no matter what.
- 6:00Lewis also works closely with his team.
- 6:02Formula One is a team sport. Even though there's only one
- 6:06driver in the car, there are engineers, mechanics, and lots
- 6:10of other people who help make the car as fast as possible.
- 6:13During a race, the team can change all four tires in just
- 6:16about two seconds. That's quicker than you can tie
- 6:191 shoe. Here's another fun fact, Lewis
- 6:22loves to give his car's nicknames.
- 6:24He's had cars called Nikki, named after another famous
- 6:27racer, and Black Arrow, which is pretty cool.
- 6:30Giving your bike or scooter a name could be your own way of
- 6:33channeling your inner Lewis Hamilton.
- 6:35Even with all his success, Lewis Hamilton always tries to help
- 6:39others. He started a foundation to
- 6:41support young people who want to get involved in science,
- 6:44technology, engineering and math, also known as STEM.
- 6:48He wants kids everywhere to have the chance to follow their
- 6:51dreams, whether it's racing cars, building robots, or
- 6:54inventing something new. So what can we learn from Lewis
- 6:58Hamilton? First, never give up on your
- 7:00dreams, even if they seem really big.
- 7:03Lewis started out racing go karts and ended up winning World
- 7:06Championships. Second, practice and hard work
- 7:09are super important. Lewis is always looking for ways
- 7:12to improve, even after all his wins.
- 7:15Third, be kind and help others. Lewis uses his success to
- 7:19inspire and support people around the world.
- 7:21Let's do a quick recap. Today we learned that Lewis
- 7:25Hamilton is a superstar Formula One driver from England who
- 7:28started racing go karts as a kid.
- 7:30He worked hard, believed in himself, and became one of the
- 7:33greatest racers ever, winning seven World Championships and
- 7:37over 100 races. He's not just fast, he's also
- 7:41caring, creative, and determined to make the world a better
- 7:44place. Maybe one day you'll be zooming
- 7:46around a track, building race cars or helping your friends
- 7:50reach their goals, just like Lewis Hamilton.
- 7:52Remember, it all starts with a dream, a little bit of courage,
- 7:56and a lot of hard work. Thanks for joining us today on
